《Reborn with 1600 IQ》 1. Prologue My name is Matthew, and I am a normal, young boy, or rather a man. Yesterday was my eighteenth birthday, and I became a grown-up. Of course, I know that you don¡¯t become an adult only because you are eighteen, but I would rather call myself a man. Not that it matters anyway. I died. Oh, I forgot to mention that¡ Well, my death wasn¡¯t a pretty one. It involved a truck hitting me with an enormous speed. I died almost instantly, so I didn¡¯t have to suffer though. Anyway, it wasn¡¯t a stupid death like in one of those novels. I wasn¡¯t just being stupid, walking through the road when the red light was on or something. Yeah, I saved a little girl, that was doing a stupid thing like that. Why do I have ability to think after I died? Oh, there is a simple reason for that. Afterlife exists, and I¡¯m now being judged by a goddess in a small, white room. The situation seemed so typical to me, that it didn¡¯t even make me flinch. ¡°You seem very calm, for someone who just died young one¡¡± the beautiful girl before me said, while looking at me. She called me young one, but she didn¡¯t look that old herself. Well, maybe in heaven everyone looks like that. Anyway, she was pretty cute. She had short, blonde hair, and round blue eyes. If she wasn¡¯t wearing this weird, glowing, white dress, then I could mistake her for a normal high-schooler. ¡°You think so?¡± I replied, and she smiled. Well, maybe I was hit by a truck, but it doesn¡¯t mean anything. It¡¯s not like I¡¯m going to be reincarnated to fight with a demon lord. I¡¯m probably just going to heaven, and¡ Wait! I am going to heaven, aren¡¯t I? I died for another person. Y-Yeah, there is no reason to be nervous now. ¡°Well, you weren¡¯t that good of a person¡¡± the girl started speaking, as if she knew what I was thinking about ¡°but the deed you did. It was a really big one. You died for someone, you didn¡¯t even know. Hmm¡ Maybe your life was too short? Maybe you should live a little longer...¡± she then said, and looked me into eyes. Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences. Wait¡ Stop¡ I know where this is going¡ ¡°You know that we have this big project in heaven? It¡¯s called ¡°my new reincarnated life in a fantasy world¡±. It¡¯s pretty neat, and I think it suits you perfectly.¡± ¡°Wait a moment. I would rather go to heaven, you know? There is no reason for a project like that¡ Yeah, just let me go to heaven, and I¡¡± ¡°Oh, there is no reason to talk so much, young one.¡± the girl replied to my words, with a loving smile ¡°It¡¯s not like you can change anything in here.¡± Are you sure that this is heaven? Isn¡¯t it just hell?! ¡°Well¡ Let¡¯s see who you are going to be.¡± as she said those words, a big die appeared in her hands ¡°It¡¯s a die of new life. Even if it looks like a normal cube, it has an infinite number of possible outcomes.¡± she then said, and threw it on the ground with a big smile. I just looked at it, and when it fell down, there was only one thing I could say. ¡°It didn¡¯t even roll once¡¡± ¡°D-Does it matter? Just take what you got, and go to a new life¡¡± ¡°Of course it matters! What is the reason in having infinite outcomes, if you take only the first one! You could as well have only one outcome!¡± I shouted, and she looked at me with angry eyes. ¡°And what should I do?! It¡¯s my first day at work! I didn¡¯t know that the die will be so heavy! I just wanted a bonus, for sending you to new life!¡± she said, but I didn¡¯t listen to her, and just grabbed the die, and started reading the words that were written on it. ¡°A stupid villager, without a leg, hated by his family. Weak, and ugly, he can¡¯t even speak normally. Strength equals zero. Intelligence equals zero¡¡± ¡°W-Well, the fate decided¡ We can¡¯t do anything, and you should just¡ Wait! Wait! Leave the die alone! You can¡¯t roll it again! Who do you think you are!? O-Okay, just roll it once more, but after that¡ Wait! Don¡¯t roll it again! What do you think this is?! A game! Hey! Stop rolling it! Did you just roll it again!?¡± I didn¡¯t listen to her words, nor did I stop rolling the die. If I am to have a new life, it should be a great one, full of pleasures, and happiness. I don¡¯t intend to live as a sick villager. I thought about this, as I rolled once again, but this time I liked what I read. ¡°A powerful knight, with a lot of strength. Handsome face, that makes every woman fall for you. You possess a perfect body, and you are loved by everyone. You will probably marry a princess, and live in a castle for the rest of your life, while others will take care of you¡ Yeah, this is the one. Now send me to my new life.¡± I said, and the girl looked at me with anger. ¡°Who do you think you are! You think, that you can just¡ Wait¡ Yeah, you are right. Heh, why should I even care. Yeah I will send you to your new life. Yeah, this is what I will do. Just stay here, and don¡¯t move okay?¡± she said, and raised one of her hands up. When she did, my vision became blurry, as if I was very sleepy. Soon after that I fell on the ground, as if I lost the control over my body. With the last of my strength I opened my eyes, just to see this girl throwing the die once again, with a vicious smile. 2. The beginning, and the stats table In a world of magic, elves, and dwarves. In a world full of mysteries, and wonders, a small boy was born to a poor family. At first he seemed like a normal, healthy boy, and he brought his parents great happiness, as he was their only child. Even if they weren¡¯t wealthy, they spent a lot of time looking after him, and making sure that he had everything he wanted. But everything changed in a short time... ¡°Don¡¯t we have any more books? We should have some books. Are you sure that you can¡¯t get me any books?¡± a one year child said, while looking at his parents. Yeah, this child wasn¡¯t normal. It isn¡¯t normal for a child to start speaking fluently in the eighth month of their life, and it isn¡¯t normal to read without any problems at the age of one. It was so abnormal, that his parents didn¡¯t know what to do, because they were too poor to afford books, and the only one they had, was given to them by a distant relative many years ago¡ They didn¡¯t want to disappoint their only son. Even if he was just a one year old baby, now sitting on the wooden floor of their house. As the time passed, the boy learned, and learned some more. At the age of ten, he would speak six languages fluently, and use even hard math without any problems. Of course, his parents didn¡¯t teach him that, but the scholar, that lived in the city. From time to time he would come by to his house, just to talk with him. He was old, but for some reason he didn¡¯t mind going out of his way, just to meet this boy, and bring him things to read. The time passed like this, and the boy continued his studies under the scholar. He didn¡¯t have many friends, because he would rather spend his time with books, but it¡¯s not like he had problems with it. Yeah, he was an introverted, but a really smart boy. His looks weren¡¯t that bad either, but his strength was lacking a lot. Maybe because he didn¡¯t move a lot, or maybe because all his talent went into his brain, but his body wasn¡¯t made for physical work. Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings. Years went by, and his fifteenth birthday was coming. It¡¯s an important day for people in this world, because at this age they receive a ¡°table¡±. Who knows why, but everyone has it, and it shows the talents of the person who has it. ¡°Your fifteenth birthday is coming, do you want anything? You know that me, and your father aren¡¯t really rich, but you deserve¡¡± they boy didn¡¯t let his mother finish her words, as he looked at her with kind eyes. ¡°There is nothing I want. I could live like this for the rest of my life. I like it even if we are poor, so don¡¯t worry about the things like this.¡± he said, and his mother smiled at him widely. ¡°We really have such a smart son.¡± The words of his mother were true. They had a truly smart son. Who knows, he could be the most intelligent person in this world. It was weird, that normal people like this, had such a splendid son, but accidents happen all the time. ¡°Tomorrow is my fifteenth birthday¡¡± the boy said, when he got to his room. He was lying on his bed, and looking at ceiling. ¡°If I can have a wish, then I want those peaceful days to never end¡¡± he said, and smiled. After that he went to sleep. This night he had a weird dream. In it, he saw a familiar person, standing near the road. Cars were riding on it, and the person that he saw, was now waiting for the light to change. ¡°Hey¡ Wait¡ I know this person¡¡± the boy said in his dream, as he looked at the man being hit by the truck, while helping a little girl. ¡°N-No¡ It can¡¯t be¡ It can¡¯t be!¡± he shouted, and woke up from his dream. ¡°I like it even if we are poor?! I can live like this?! Were they making fun of me!? I... ¡° he said with anger, as the memories of his past life returned to him. One memory was a really painful one. A memory of a girl that took his easy life away from him, leaving him to live as a peasant. And she did it with only a roll of a die¡

3. University of magic I woke up after getting some sleep. There are many things that I enjoy in this new world, from reading, to learning new things, but the most enjoyable one must be sleeping. Well, it¡¯s not like other people are different than me, but for me it¡¯s a little different. My intelligence makes daily life a little too ¡°tiresome¡±, if I can describe it like this. Well, there are things that one can get used to, and thinking the way I do is one of them, but I still enjoy the sleep much more than I did in my previous life. Maybe because I don¡¯t have a computer beside my bed, with games, and funny videos? For real, internet is probably the thing I miss the most¡ Wait, no! My parents! Yeah! I miss my parents, not the internet! I slowly stood up from my bed, and took a glance at my room. It wasn¡¯t too big, but I liked it nonetheless. Full of dusty bookcases, and papers that were all over the room. Under a big window, two beds were placed near each other, and on the other one a boy about my age, but higher than me was sleeping. He had short, red hair, and a face of someone impolite. Well, maybe it¡¯s rude to describe it like this, but his eyes always looked like he was angry, not that they were open right now. As if he knew that I was thinking about him, he moved a little under his blanket, and faced me with his head still sleeping. There was no reason for me to stare at him, so I just approached my desk that was in the corner of the room, intending to tidy my stuff a little. ¡°Hmm¡ There is no dust in this place¡¡± I said quietly, as I touched the clean spot on my desk ¡°Did he ¡°borrow¡± my stuff without asking once again?¡± The boy that was now soundly sleeping had a habit of taking my stuff without asking. From the pen that I was using, to the homework that I worked so hard to prepare. Speaking about homework, we had a really big one for today. Maybe I should revise it once again? Well, it¡¯s not like there will be any mistakes anyway¡ After cleaning my stuff a little bit, I approached a one, and only mirror that we had in our room. It was hanged on the wall behind the boy that was still sleeping. It wasn¡¯t too big, but I still could see my pajamas, and bored gaze. ¡°It¡¯s been a year since I regained my memories, but I still can¡¯t get used to this face¡¡± I said, as I touched my nose. This person reflected in the mirror was me, but I couldn¡¯t really get used to it. I know that I spent sixteen years living in this body, but what can I do? Still, I don¡¯t look that bad if I can say so myself. A nice looking face, with a small nose, and big, reddish eyes. Can¡¯t say that I understand the way people look in this world, but if I can accept red hair, I should also accept red eyes. Speaking of the hair, my looked messy. Long, black strands of hair were just chaotically arranged on my head¡ I grabbed a comb, that for some reason was now placed on the floor under me, and started to brush my hair. It took me some time, but I made it look well enough after some time, which made me look a little cleaner. ¡°I don¡¯t look bad, if you ask me¡¡± I threw a meaningless compliment at the mirror, and went to a nearby wardrobe to get my uniform. If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation. As I was changing into it, the boy that was sleeping for this whole time finally woke up, and was now looking at me with half opened eyes. ¡°W-Why are you changing¡ W-Wait! Wait! Which hour it is!?¡± he shouted, as he springed out of his bed. ¡°Who knows, but I would start changing right now if I was in your place Roy¡¡± I said, and he looked at me with angry expression. ¡°You should have just woken me up! Ahh¡ Where are my things¡ Where are my things!¡± I ignored the voice of this little thief, as I put my clothes on me. Finally, when I was ready I took a look at myself in the mirror. The uniform looked extravagant, and a little over the top. It was black, with golden, and white accents. The buttons were nicely decorated, and they looked good with the black trousers, and boots. ¡°Where is my homework¡ Where is it! Where! Why didn¡¯t you wake me up¡ Uhh¡¡± Roy was still moaning, as he threw the papers on his desk. ¡°There are probably under your book for conventional magic. It seemed that we needed a lot of material from that book, to make our homework.¡± I said, and he grabbed the book that I was talking about. ¡°Yeah, you are right! Thanks man! Wait, I shouldn¡¯t thank you! You are the one that caused this situation!¡± ¡°Yeah, yeah¡ Just change yourself, and go with me. We don¡¯t have a lot of time.¡± I said, and he grabbed his uniform, while still moaning about how it is my fault that we will be late. Finally, when he got ready, we took our bags, exited our room, and started walking through a hallway of our dormitory. This building wasn¡¯t as expensive looking as the university itself, but it still made a really good impression. It¡¯s white walls, and big windows, from which a lot of sunshine was coming through, made this hallway look like something from a fairytale. Well, I was in a fairytale now. ¡°Ehh¡ Why can¡¯t we share our dormitory with the girls¡ Why? I don¡¯t want to look at men from the beginning of my day!¡± Roy was saying some stupid things, as he walked beside me, but it¡¯s not like I couldn¡¯t understand him. Walking beside those people from the beginning of my day wasn¡¯t pleasing. ¡°He¡¯s still here?¡± one of the boys walking through the hallway said quietly, while looking at me. ¡°A commoner, in a place like this. Doesn¡¯t he know that this isn¡¯t a place for him?¡± other one said, behind my back. ¡°I don¡¯t care how good he is. He should just return to his little city, and stay there, with his lowly parents.¡± a little laughter carried through the hallway, when someone said this. Yeah, even in a fantasy world like this, people were still the same. Can¡¯t say I blame them. I was learning in the greatest magical university in the country. People here were mostly highly born, and from noble families. I got here only because the scholar from my city recommended me here. It seemed that he was a highly known person, because with his help I got here. Of course, his recommendation wasn¡¯t the only thing I needed. I was put through many tests, but every each one of them was testing something that I have too much of, my intelligence. Anyway, those tables, that everyone receives after their fifteenth birthday, couldn¡¯t help me. They are invisible to anyone other than the person that they describe. Talk about useless stuff... ¡°Those idiots¡ If I could just¡¡± I heard Roy¡¯s voice, and when I looked at him, he had an angry expression on his face. ¡°Don¡¯t worry about them.¡± ¡°Don¡¯t worry about them? If I could just¡¡± It seemed that there wasn¡¯t anything that I could tell him, to make him calm down, so I just stopped talking. We walked like this for another ten minutes, going few floors down, when we finally arrived outside. As I left the building, I looked around. We were standing next to a big garden, with many beautiful flowers, and big trees. In the distance I could see a really massive, and beautifully made white building, that looked like something from baroque. It was probably half a kilometer away from us, and a road through the garden lead to it. ¡°No matter how many times I see it, it still leaves a big impression on me¡¡± Roy said, while looking at the university. ¡°And what should I say? I¡¯m but a commoner.¡± ¡°Don¡¯t even joke like that.¡± Yeah, Roy was a good boy, and a nice friend. From the very beginning he didn¡¯t judge me based on my origin, and just treated me like someone his age. Yeah, Roy was nice friend but it was hard to talk to him naturally. He doesn¡¯t see even the half of the things, that I see. From the time we left our room, to now, I saw so many things, that it¡¯s scary. This intelligence of mine is scary. The things you can deduce only after looking at someone for a short amount of time are scary. ¡°What are you thinking about?¡± I heard his voice once again, but now he was looking at me. ¡°Nothing¡ Let¡¯s go.¡± I replied, and we started walking towards the university. 4. University of magic - Gaze of a girl Would one look at me, they would probably think that I¡¯m a genius. Well, it¡¯s not like they would be wrong, but it¡¯s hard for me to see myself like this, while still remembering my old life. As weird as it may seem, I didn¡¯t think that having a great intelligence was great even once after my memories returned to me. It¡¯s seems more like a burden to me. My thoughts are sometimes too fast even for me, and my brain needs a large amount of energy. Even if I don¡¯t move, I eat a lot, and I need large amounts of sleep. As I see it, my reasoning skills are the one that have been improved the most. I still might find it hard to remember many things, but I can take care of a little problem like this with brain exercises, and memory techniques. Intelligence is also the most important stat while casting spells, so for that reason only I avoid casting them when I can. Even a small spell can have big effects when casted with a lot of power, and I don¡¯t intend people to find out what kind of power I have. ¡°Wow, no matter how many times I see this garden, I¡¯m still amazed.¡± Roy said, while still walking beside me. Well, the day was just beginning, and it was the middle of spring. Plants looked really beautiful in this time of the year, and walking in the shadow of those big trees really felt good. ¡°You seem to really like this path.¡± I said, and looked at him. ¡°Well, what is there not to like? To tell you the truth, I never really liked those closed rooms of the university. I prefer it here, open, and free.¡± Roy replied, and took a deep breath ¡°Don¡¯t you just want to swim, when you see this lake?¡± he then said, as he pointed at the place behind one of the trees. There, behind some high grass, a big lake was situated. From where we were standing, I could see some students playing near it, as if they didn¡¯t care that their classes were starting soon. No, wait¡ There are too many students there. Are they just lazy? Or they don¡¯t have classes in the morning? No, it can¡¯t be. They wouldn¡¯t go here dressed in their uniforms, if they didn¡¯t have classes. I stopped for a moment, to take a better look at them. I could recognise some of them, and they weren¡¯t known for their bad behaviour. No, on the contrary, they were all part of one of the best courses in this university. Other reason¡ Class¡ You need students, and teacher¡ Teacher? Something important? If they are here, they must have learned about it today. Sickness? I looked at them once more. No girls. Unpopular? No, they look good. Most of them handsome. Classes only for boys? It must mean... ¡°Why did you stop? Oh, you are looking at them? I know that you want to play too! Heh, you seem cold, but you are just like us after all!¡± ¡°No, just some stupid thoughts...¡± my reply was true. Sometimes I can¡¯t really understand why I think about those things. ¡°No need to be shy! When the classes end, we can come here!¡± Roy just said, as if he didn¡¯t care about what I have to say. ¡°Well, let¡¯s just continue our walk¡¡± I said, and started moving ¡°Anyway, didn¡¯t you hear about absence of any teacher lately? A one that probably teaches ¡°psychical education for magicians¡± for boys.¡± It might seem like a trivial matter, but boys and girls can¡¯t learn this subject together. Casting magic is different for both sexes, and their bodies need different kind of preparation. That¡¯s why most of the prestigious schools hire someone that is good in teaching only one gender, while hiring another person for the other half. It costs more money, but people hired like this are better, and classes can be split into smaller groups. Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site. Well, there are also other problems, similar to those from my old world. Boys are just stronger than girls, so they shouldn¡¯t have subjects like this together. ¡°No, why would you ask?¡± Roy just replied quickly, making my thoughts a little pointless. ¡°Ah, it¡¯s nothing. Probably I had a wrong idea¡¡± I replied, and smiled to myself. Can¡¯t say that I¡¯m not intelligent, but it doesn¡¯t mean that I¡¯m always right. After that, we walked like this for another five minutes, while talking about many things. My thoughts are pretty fast, but it doesn¡¯t mean that I¡¯m some superman, or anything. I can still relax, and converse about stupid things. As the time passed, we finally arrived before the university. Behind white wall, and metal gate was a massive building, bigger than anything other I have ever saw. It looked beautiful, with many big windows, and stairs leading to the enormous entry door. ¡°Looks like something from a baroque¡¡± I said quietly to myself, while looking at the flowers planted everywhere, and sculptures of ancient magicians. ¡°We should probably hurry inside! The lecture will begin shortly, and¡ Wait, you don¡¯t come to lectures!¡± Roy said, while walking through the metal gate. ¡°Took you long enough. Anyway, it¡¯s not like anything changed, I don¡¯t intend to attend them¡ They are a waste of time, and I don¡¯t really need them.¡± ¡°So why are you here?! Shouldn¡¯t you be asleep right now?¡± ¡°I should, but I have something to talk about with the teacher. One lecture won¡¯t kill me anyway.¡± I replied, and he looked at me. ¡°Let¡¯s just hurry!¡± Roy then said, and we started running towards the university. It didn¡¯t take us long to go through the big door leading to the inside of the building, and when we did, we were greeted with a sight that really came from a fairytale. On the high ceiling there were golden ornaments, and beautiful paintings presenting the history of this country. Before us there was a long, white hallway, with doors on the boths sides of it. The hallway seemed to never end, as if it was created with the usage of magic. I looked at the students walking in it. There were hundreds of them, and each one of them was from a noble family. ¡°Come! We need to go to the higher floor!¡± Roy shouted to me, and we approached the stairs that were to our right. It took us some time, but we finally climbed them, and we came to another hallway, that looked similar to the one before, but this time there were less students in it. ¡°What¡ T-There is no teacher? Why¡ Why did we run¡¡± Roy started speaking while trying to catch his breath, when he saw our class still waiting near one of the doors ¡°Why¡ Why is it happening!¡± ¡°Isn¡¯t it good? It means that we got here in time.¡± I replied, and he looked at me with serious eyes. As if he wanted to tell me something really important. ¡°I want to pee.¡± Yep... ¡°Well, I think you have enough time to go to the bathroom. Just make it quick.¡± I reassured him that everything will be alright, and then he started running once again. I just stared at him for a moment, and then slowly approached my class. I didn¡¯t want to stand too close to them, because I knew that they didn¡¯t like me that much. In their eyes I was just a lowly commoner, and there was probably nothing that could change it. There were some places to sit near the door, but most of the students were standing anyway. I stood maybe twenty meters away from them, just looking at the ceiling. The painting on it were really beautiful, and it¡¯s not like I could play with a smartphone or anything like that in this moment. I don¡¯t really miss the human interactions. This person that I am now¡ Can¡¯t say it¡¯s ¡°me¡± from my old life, but can¡¯t say that everything is different either. It feels more like a mash of two personalities. In my old life I was just a normal person, not really liked, or disliked. I didn¡¯t have any talents, and I had a boring life. This new ¡°me¡± is introverted as hell, and everyone dislikes him. As for talents¡ Well, let¡¯s say my new self is pretty smart. When you mash those two personalities together something weird must come out. I thought about this, and looked at the people from my class. They were happily chatting with themselves, and no one was even looking at me. Can¡¯t blame them, who would look at a lowly commoner, that was born to a¡ Wait¡ Why is she? I looked at the girl, that was standing among the students. She had long, black hair, and big, blue eyes. Her face was cute, maybe because of her small nose, or beautiful lips. She was wearing a girls uniform, that looked similar to the boys one, but was more girly, and instead of trousers she was wearing a skirt. ¡°What a cute girl¡¡± I would think, if she wasn¡¯t a class president that was now staring at me like that. Do you want something from me? Even when I noticed her gaze, she didn¡¯t look into other direction, as if she didn¡¯t care about what I think. Is it because I am a commoner? I looked at her once more. Thin¡ Doesn¡¯t eat well? Short¡ Weak¡ Big bag¡ A lot of books? Bookworm? Tired¡ Spends a lot of time learning? Clean clothes. Takes care of herself. Bored gaze. Isn¡¯t interested in the conversation. Mud on shoes¡ Wasn¡¯t raining for days¡ Was near water? A clean person¡ Didn¡¯t clean it¡ Went today? ¡°Hey! I¡¯m back! Wait¡ Where are you starring? Oh, you hungry wolf, just starring like this at a girl. You really are something!¡± Roy started speaking nonsense as soon as he approached me. ¡°Don¡¯t be stupid¡¡± I replied, and he smiled a little. ¡°Anyway, I met someone I know on the way to the bathroom, and you know what he told me?¡± ¡°I don¡¯t care¡¡± ¡°Oh, don¡¯t be like this! He told me that Mr. Smith is sick. We won¡¯t have our physical education tomorrow! Aren¡¯t you happy? We will sleep for a whole hour more!¡± Mr. Smith is sick? ¡°It makes you a little too happy. Are you sure that you wasn¡¯t a sloth in your previous life?¡± I replied, and Roy laughed a little. As we were speaking, the teacher finally came, and we started our classes. 5. University of magic - A boring lecture? When we went into our class, we saw just a small auditorium, that could hold up to one hundred people, with rows of seats, and a place for the teacher to speak. We weren¡¯t the first ones to get into the class, so most of the places were taken¡ Well, the ones that I like the most weren¡¯t. ¡°Let¡¯s go to the back.¡± I said quietly to Roy, as we started climbing small stairs to our right. As we did it, I could feel the stares of the other people inside the class, and they weren¡¯t nice. With every step I could hear their whispers. ¡°He¡¯s just a commoner¡¡± some girl said quietly, from one of the rows. ¡°He doesn¡¯t attend the lectures. And I thought that I won¡¯t need to look at him from the morning.¡± a male voice said. I was climbing the stairs for only few seconds, but I heard all of their insults. When we finally got to the higher seats, some of the people that were sitting near went down, as if they didn¡¯t want to even be near me, and we were left alone. ¡°If I could just¡¡± I heard Roy¡¯s angry voice. ¡°Don¡¯t worry, I don¡¯t mind. And we have a nice view from here anyway.¡± I replied, and sat on one of the chairs. Yeah, the places in the back were the nicest. There were few reasons for that. Firstly, no one was sitting behind you. Secondly, they were the highest seats in the auditorium, and you could see everything while sitting in them. And thirdly, not many people decide to sit in them. Everyone here wants to have the best grades, and there aren¡¯t many slackers. ¡°Well, I think we can start our classes¡ I don¡¯t think anyone else will come.¡± the teacher said, and clapped his hands. He was old, but it suited the subject we were learning with him. ¡°Offensive magic¡±, as the simple name suggests, it isn¡¯t a new subject, but rather an old one. Anyway, the teacher looked like one of those wizards you see in fantasy movies. He had a long beard, and a pointy hat. As if he truly wanted to look like a wizards. Most of the wizards I saw up to now didn¡¯t look like that, they were rather nobles, dressed in theirs expensive clothes. ¡°The first thing... Where did we end our last lecture? Maybe someone will remind us?¡± the teacher said, with an tired voice, maybe because of his age, or maybe because he was bored ¡°If I were to choose someone¡ Oh, there! Those two boys just sitting in the last row on my lecture. First, the red one!¡± In the moment he said ¡°the red one¡±, Roy got up from his seat, and looked at the teacher with a serious look. A look of someone that knows something. ¡°I¡¯m sorry! I don¡¯t remember!¡± he said, and bowed a little, making the whole class explode in laughter. Can¡¯t say I blame him, the lectures in here are a waste of time, and most of them are too boring to even stay awake. ¡°Well, well¡ You don¡¯t remember? What about your friend? Can he tell us?¡± he said those words, and looked at me. When I heard him, I stood up from my seat, and looked at the teacher. Should I just say, that I don¡¯t know? It wouldn¡¯t be false, because I don¡¯t attend lectures very often. There is no reason to hide it. This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author''s work. Yeah, there is no reason to hide it, and yet I¡¯m but a commoner. Should I give them another reason to laugh at me? It¡¯s still early in our first year of schooling. Teacher¡ Burned sleeves? A little¡ Fire¡ Subject with our class? Not sure¡ No papers ready for the class¡ Something practical¡ More informations¡ When walked near him¡ Had a ring of protection from fire¡ Burned sleeves¡ Didn¡¯t use it before? Intends to use it now¡ We will have the basics of offensive fire spells, judging by the year we are in. Something before that? Textbook¡ Flow of mana¡ Flow of offensive mana¡ ¡°Hmm, what are you waiting for? Do you not know?¡± ¡°No, I was just trying to remember, I¡¯m sorry. Was it on the flow of offensive mana?¡± I asked, and he smiled. ¡°Yeah! Yeah! Finally someone who thinks in my class! Splendid!¡± there was too much happiness in his words, as if noone cared about his classes ¡°Yeah. We had the flow of offensive mana, so for the next step, we will have the basics of offensive fire spells. As you can see, I didn¡¯t prepare any papers for now, and that¡¯s because you need to see this magic, to fully understand how it works.¡± I didn¡¯t really listen to him, as I was the one of those that don¡¯t think in his classes. I just sat in my place, and looked at the ceiling. ¡°Woah, how did you know? Don¡¯t tell me that you attend those classes in secret?¡± Roy asked, and I just looked at him. ¡°Just a hunch.¡± I replied, and he looked at me with amazed eyes. ¡°Man, you really are a brave one.¡± ¡°I wouldn¡¯t say so¡ Anyway, let¡¯s not speak in class. I don¡¯t want to anger him.¡± ¡°Okay.¡± Roy replied with a quiet voice, and looked at the teacher. Am I a brave one? Can¡¯t say. It¡¯s not like my deductions are always right, it¡¯s just that I would rather trust my intelligence, than not. If I would to compare it, with the one from my old world, this thing called ¡°intelligence¡± in here is somewhat different. It is also a statistic, that is used while casting magic, so there might be other differences. Well, who cares¡ This time I got it right¡ I started looking at the class. Sitting in the last row had its advantages. No one was looking at me, and I could look at everyone. Yeah, I could just stare at them, and they wouldn¡¯t know it¡ Wait. Those eyes. Staring at me¡ I know them. Those big blue eyes. In the middle of the auditorium, a girl was sitting, that wasn¡¯t looking at the teacher. Instead she was looking at me¡ Yeah, the class president, Emily. She had a nice name, for someone just staring at me like that.. What does she want from me? As I thought about this, the boy near her poked her a little, and when he did, she turned around. After that, the same boy looked at me, but for some reason there was anger in his eyes. Lucas - class vice president. Known for his enormous talent for magic, and powerful lineage. His father works near the king, and is known for his intelligence, and cleverness. Lucas is loved by girls. Not only is he rich, and talented, by also really handsome. Short blonde hair, and big green eyes. With his beautiful face, one could mistake him for an elf, if not for his ears. Anger? Jealousy? Problems? Vice president, even when he has a better lineage than class president¡ She¡¯s smarter than him? Does he like her? I thought about those things, as he turned around. Well, it¡¯s not like I care. You nobles are of no interest for me. Once again I looked at the ceiling, thinking about many things. As I sat there, my eyes got heavy, and after few minutes I finally fell asleep. I don¡¯t remember if I had a dream in this time, but I do remember what woke me up. ¡°Wow! Wow! This is so cool! Wow!¡± Roy was shouting near me, but he wasn¡¯t the only one. The whole class was in chaos, as they looked at the teacher. ¡°One more!¡± ¡°Yeah teacher! One more! One more, and we will go!¡± some girl said, and the teacher smiled. ¡°Okay, okay¡ But after that one, the class will end.¡± he then said, and lifted his hands up. When he did, sparks escaped his hands, but they didn¡¯t fall on the ground. No, they started floating in the air, while rapidly changing their colors. Fire magic¡ Air magic¡ Illusion¡ Should you show something like that in the middle of class about the basics of offensive fire spells? Are you sure that you are a teacher? I looked at the class, and most of them, similar to Roy, were really excited. Most of them, but the most prestigious nobles. Among them were Lucas and Emily, that were sitting in their places without moving, as if they didn¡¯t care about the show. Well, can¡¯t really blame them. I¡¯m sure that in their families there are many mages, that showed them tricks better than this one. ¡°Okay¡ That was the last one! Now, go to your next classes.¡± the teacher said, and some of the students looked at him with sadness ¡°Now, now. Don¡¯t look at me, and go. I can¡¯t just keep you here like that. Move.¡± After his words, people started slowly leaving the auditorium. Me, and Roy waited for them to leave, and when most of them did, I approached the teacher. The thing I wanted to talk with about wasn¡¯t that important. Something about my homework for other classes. I needed more materials, and books, but the library wouldn¡¯t rent me anymore books. The only thing I could do, was give back some of the books, or ask one of the teachers about what I want to know. Of course, I chose the second option, and someone who teaches offensive magic was the best for it. It didn¡¯t take me long, but I told Roy not to wait for me. Our next classes were different anyway, and I didn¡¯t want him to be late. When I was done, I left the auditorium, and walked into the hallway. When I did, I noticed familiar girl that was now looking at me. 6. University of magic - A small talk with the noble Should I speak to her? What does she want from me? Did she wait for me? She probably did. Can¡¯t really ignore her, but I can¡¯t say that I want to talk to her. I¡¯m not one of those guys, who thinks that girl is interested in him only because she looks at him. Well, this and also I can more or less deduce what others think about me from the way they look at me. More or less, because humans emotions aren¡¯t really logical¡ ¡°Is something the matter?¡± I asked the girl that was standing before me, and when I did I noticed a boy that was standing near her. Lucas? Well, it¡¯s not my lucky day. Should have just go to my other classes. Let¡¯s make it quick, shall we? ¡°Yes¡¡± Emily responded, with a weak voice. She was a rather small girl, with a childish appearance. Her long black hair, and big blue eyes were really captivating, and her face was that of someone of high birth. Even if she was rather quiet, and unssocial, she was still fairly popular among the boys. ¡°Could we make it quick? I have classes soon, and I don¡¯t want to be late.¡± I responded with a smile, and Lucas looked at me with angry eyes. ¡°You are but a lowly commoner, listen when¡¡± ¡°No, he¡¯s right. We should make it quick.¡± the petite girl that was standing near him stopped him from saying anything more, and then she looked at me ¡°You don¡¯t really come to lectures, do you?¡± A question? Why? Can¡¯t imagine her waiting in here for me, only to ask something like this. A second meaning? ¡°I don¡¯t, but they aren¡¯t compulsory, are they?¡± as I asked this, the girl looked at me with blank expression. ¡°Yeah, they are not¡¡± What with this bored way of speaking? ¡°I can¡¯t imagine that you waited in here only to ask me this. Can we cut to the chase?¡± after I said this, Lucas once again looked at me with anger. Is his high birth so important to him, or are there other reasons for his behaviour? Well, it¡¯s best not to think about emotions logically, because they aren¡¯t logical at all. ¡°You are right. The thing I wanted to ask you, includes our recent test. The one including various applications of magic. I¡¯m sure you remember, because you wrote it perfectly, without even one mistake.¡± the girl said, and tilted her head a little ¡°You do remember?¡± ¡°I do remember writing a test like this, but I don¡¯t remember getting full marks on it. They didn¡¯t even return those tests to us, because they are still being checked. Are you sure that you aren¡¯t mistaken?¡± as I asked this, I smiled a little. I already knew the answer to my own question, but it was more natural to ask. ¡°Oh, don¡¯t worry about it. As you may know I¡¯m the daughter of the principal of this school. Getting my hands on a test is an easy task.¡± she responded, with her usual blank expression. ¡°Should you say things like this? One may think that you could use this power to cheat.¡± a slight insult made by me, but it didn¡¯t mean anything. She¡¯s a genius, a real genius. So smart that she doesn¡¯t seem human to many of the normal students. Well, maybe I shouldn¡¯t be the one to say things like this¡ Did you know this story is from Royal Road? Read the official version for free and support the author. ¡°What?! A lowly commoner like you? How you dare?! Probably you are the one that cheats on your tests! Getting full marks, when you don¡¯t have any real education.¡± the boy once again started shouting, attracting the attention of people near us. Well, I don¡¯t really care about his insults, but I don¡¯t want to just stay here, and listen to his insignificant words. I would rather go to my next class. ¡°I don¡¯t know what you want, but I can¡¯t just stay here and listen to him¡¡± I wanted to end my sentence, but I was interrupted by the girl. ¡°Shut up¡¡± she said, with a little irritated face. When she did that, Lucas looked at me with a victorious smile. ¡°Did you hear her, commoner? You are but a¡¡± ¡°Didn¡¯t you hear me? Shut up.¡± Emily said, and looked him into his eyes ¡°Could you just leave us alone for a moment, if you can¡¯t even behave yourself?¡± If I was a normal boy, I would probably burst into laughter right now, but I don¡¯t care about the nobles at all. I don¡¯t care if they compliment each other, and I also don¡¯t care if they insult each other. Yeah, who would care about the things like that? ¡°Hey! Commoner! Why are you smiling! You¡¡± ¡°Just go!¡± I saw this girl shouting for the first time in my life, and Lucas probably too, because he disappeared really fast. Of course after looking at me with the eyes full of hatred. ¡°You caused a little scene.¡± I said, while looking around us. A lot of people were watching us, and when they noticed that I know it, they looked away from us. ¡°I¡¯m sorry for the inconvenience.¡± she just responded with her bored expression, and then she continued talking ¡°About the test, and the way I obtained it. I hope you can keep it to yourself¡ I mean the way I obtained it.¡± she then said, and I just nodded. ¡°Well, now that we have this out of our way, let me ask you the question that I wanted to ask your from the beginning.¡± she said, and tilted her head, white looking into my eyes ¡°Who was your teacher? Where did you learn? Who are you?¡± A lot of questions for a girl. Are you hitting on me? Well, all jokes aside, I can understand why she asks about those things, but I should play dumb for now. ¡°I can understand that a commoner writing a test without any mistakes might seem weird, but there is no reason for questions like that. I was taught by a scholar in my old city, and he told me to start my education in here. I learned everything from him, and I am but a commoner.¡± I responded, and she looked at me with her usual blank stare, but this time she seemed to be thinking. ¡°You know why I ask you those questions, don¡¯t you?¡± she then said, and pierced me with her gaze. ¡°You think that I cheated?¡± I responded and smiled. Just play dumb. She wouldn¡¯t¡ ¡°Stop playing dumb. I know that you didn¡¯t cheat.¡± her words were quick, and her eyes were still staring at me. A smart one, I¡¯m sure of it. Smart and persistent. A bookworm, that likes to read. A weak girl, that can make nobles go away with only her words. How should I take care of it? ¡°Then what is the reason you ask those questions?¡± ¡°You know.¡± she responded instantly. Of course I know. My answers on tests aren¡¯t really ¡°normal¡±. Even if I have a lot of knowledge from books, I still answer the questions using my intelligence. She got her hands on my test, but she isn¡¯t stupid. She would know that I didn¡¯t cheat, if my answers looked the way they look. It must mean only one thing, she is¡ ¡°I¡¯m interested in you Matthew.¡± the girl said, and approached me a little ¡°Even my father is interested in you. Did you know that?¡± I just looked at her, and didn¡¯t say a word. ¡°One of the teachers told him about you. A commoner, that can answer every question. A commoner, that uses his own methods to solve problems, and his methods are always right. You know what my father said, when he looked at your tests?¡± she looked at me, and approached me even more ¡°Beautiful. This is what he said. Why do you think he said that?¡± ¡°Who knows¡¡± I responded, and backed off a little. ¡°Who are you Matthew?¡± her blank expression changed a little, as she asked me this. ¡°I¡¯m but a commoner, that wants to learn how to use magic.¡± ¡°How did you know what was on previous lecture? You don¡¯t come to them, and your friend couldn¡¯t tell you either.¡± she asked, and took a step towards me. ¡°He told me, but he forgot¡¡± ¡°Don¡¯t joke around. You didn¡¯t know, I am sure of it. What made you think, that we learned about the flow of offensive mana?¡± The look on her face was serious, but she didn¡¯t seem angry. The way I saw it, she looked interested. Well, she really is intelligent, but I don¡¯t really care about her, or her father. ¡°You are sure of it? Why? He really told me about it, when I asked him in the dormitory, but it looks like he forgot. I know that it might seem romantic, to think that a commoner has an enormous talent, but it¡¯s everything but that. Many people ace their tests, and I am but one of them. My answers are just different, because of lack of the proper education.¡± when I said this, she took a step backwards, while still looking at me. ¡°And my father? What of him? You want to say that he is wrong too?¡± she asked, with her usual blank expression. ¡°Your father can¡¯t be wrong?¡± When I said this, I saw anger in her eyes. Even if her expression stayed the same, I could still feel, that I touched the subject that meant a lot for her. Well, it¡¯s good for me. ¡°You are but a commoner, and he¡¡± she said quietly, and then looked at me ¡°Yeah, you are right. Forget that I asked you anything. I n-need to go now.¡± Well, it works for me. ¡°It was a pleasure.¡± I just responded, and looked as she slowly walked away. After that I went to my next class. 7. University of magic - A rumor, and friendship ¡°Ah¡ We survived another day.¡± Roy said, while looking at the ceiling of our room. We were both now lying on our beds doing nothing. It wasn¡¯t that late, but the day was already ending, and remains of sunshine were coming inside through the window. The room was still messy as always, and the papers were just laying everywhere. ¡°We? The only one that could compare learning in here to surviving is you. For me it was but another day.¡± I responded, and Roy turned to me, and looked at me with angry eyes. After talking to Emily, I just took the rest of my classes without any problems, and returned to the dormitory. It felt good, because I was finally able to get some rest. ¡°And here I thought that we were companions¡¡± he just said, and then once again looked at the ceiling ¡°But you are probably right. Your days here are easy, aren¡¯t they? Oh, wait¡ I didn¡¯t mean to say that¡¡± ¡°I know, I know. Don¡¯t worry about it.¡± as I said this, he smiled. I know that he meant my ability to learn. I also know that it is hard to call my life in here easy, if I am insulted every day by every student living in here. Well, it¡¯s not like I care, and sometimes I think that those things have more impact on Roy that they have on me. ¡°Anyway, you really are something¡¡± ¡°What do you mean?¡± I asked, and this time I looked at him. When I did, I noticed that he was trying to hold his laughter. ¡°Y-You know that there is a rumor, that the class president told Lucas to go away, only to then speak to you?¡± he said with big difficulties, trying to hold his laughter ¡°And that after that, she approached you really close, as if she wanted to¡¡± this time he couldn¡¯t hold it in, and started laughing. I didn¡¯t say anything, because I already heard this rumor. Well, the people that told me about it, cursed me afterwards, but this is another matter. Instead I just waited for Roy to calm down, and when he did, I looked at the ceiling. ¡°So, what were you talking about?¡± I asked calmly, and heard his laughter once again. ¡°I¡¯m s-sorry! I d-didn¡¯t mean to¡¡± he said those words, and took a deep breath ¡°As if she wanted to kiss you.¡± Once again, laughing. He sounds like a monkey when he is doing it¡ Like a monkey trying to take a breath. Once more I waited for him to regain composure, and when he did I started talking. This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience. ¡°And you believe in those rumors?¡± ¡°Of course I don¡¯t believe in them, but don¡¯t you think they are pretty funny? We are talking about the class president. That class president! Did you ever see her smile? Is she even capable of emotions? And here, a normal commoner comes, and captures her heart¡ It¡¯s like a fairytale, a love that wasn¡¯t meant to be. A romance that was always fated to be¡¡± ¡°Shut up.¡± ¡°I¡¯m sorry.¡± Is this a sketch or something? But this rumor might have bigger consequences that I would like it to have. If I were a noble, people would probably just laugh about this, and think that it is cute, but I¡¯m not a noble. This is just another reason for people to hate me, even if nothing happened. ¡°What did she want anyway?¡± Roy asked, and sighed a little. ¡°It¡¯s my own problem.¡± as I said those words, he smiled a little. ¡°Don¡¯t want to talk about it? People are saying that she left you looking annoyed. Is it because you didn¡¯t want to kiss¡¡± ¡°Shut up.¡± ¡°I¡¯m sorry.¡± Roy might seem stupid, but his questions are pretty smart. Just what did she want? Did I make a mistake? Writing tests without mistakes, using my own methods. It might have been too much. For now I should stop standing out. Some errors are desirable, especially if you are a commoner. ¡°But man, I really envy you¡ You don¡¯t really spend more time than me on learning, but your grades are perfect. Well, except physical education, but my parents don¡¯t give a damn about it.¡± ¡°You envy me?¡± as I said those words, I looked at him, and he returned my gaze. ¡°Of course I envy¡ Hey, why are you looking at me like that?¡± ¡°Like what?¡± What is he talking about? ¡°I¡¯m sorry! I didn¡¯t know what I was talking about!¡± he said, and joined his hands as if he was praying. ¡°What are you talking about?¡± ¡°I¡¯m sorry!¡± he just shouted, and looked away. Another stupid joke of his? Well, it¡¯s not like I hate them. Roy is probably the only person in this school, that I can call my friend. I can¡¯t imagine what would happen, if I were to share a room with some snob, who would think that I¡¯m no one just because I¡¯m a commoner. I looked at him, and he was staring at the ceiling once again, as if he didn¡¯t care about anything in this world. He looked just like that. ¡°Are you sure that you envy me?¡± I asked, and closed my eyes. ¡°What do you mean?¡± ¡°I didn¡¯t tell you before, but I have a super power. To tell you the truth I am a really powerful human being, that must hide his own power even before himself, because it would destroy him, do you understand?¡± ¡°What is this crap?¡± he just responded and laughed. ¡°Oh, don¡¯t believe me if you want, but I am so smart, that when I don¡¯t control it, the world slows down only for me. When I don¡¯t control it¡ Everything is for me to take¡¡± I said, and opened my eyes. ¡°If everything is for you to take, could you improve my grades?¡± ¡°Oh, even I can¡¯t do something like this.¡± ¡°You little¡¡± Roy grabbed a pillow, as if he wanted to throw it at me, but then he put it on its place ¡°Well, you might say what you want, but I still envy you.¡± ¡°Do you want to have better grades so much?¡± ¡°And do you want to kiss so much?¡± ¡°Shut up.¡± Once again Roy laughed, and looked outside the window. ¡°We should probably go to sleep. It¡¯s getting late, and I want to have a good rest, especially if we don¡¯t have classes with Mr. Smith tomorrow.¡± ¡°Yeah, you are probably right.¡± I responded, and yawned a little. ¡°If I will oversleep once again, can you use your powers to wake me up? Don¡¯t want to run again.¡± he said, and smiled ¡°Of course. Just go to sleep.¡± Just like that we ended our talk, and I closed my eyes. I didn¡¯t really think about anything, nor did I want to, so after a while I just fell asleep. 8. University of magic - A lonely girl by the lake I had a good rest. I shouldn¡¯t say things like this, but the sickness of Mr. Smith was really a blessing. Physical education isn¡¯t my thing, and I would rather spend my time on sleeping or learning. Just that one reason made my morning so much better, but the boy now laying on the bed beside me didn¡¯t share my enthusiasm. ¡°M-My head¡ It hurts... ¡° Roy said, and buried his head into a bedsheet. He didn¡¯t look well, and his voice was weak. ¡°Who would have thought, that our Roy can get sick too¡ I¡¯m impressed.¡± I said, while changing myself into my uniform. ¡°Don¡¯t be stupid¡ Of course I can¡¡± he tried to end his sentence, but he started coughing, while moving under the duvet. ¡°Now, now¡ You don¡¯t need to speak if you are tired. I will tell the people at school, so you can just rest for now.¡± after I said those words, Roy just sighed a little, and looked at me. ¡°Okay, thanks.¡± he then said, while resting his head on the pillow. ¡°Don¡¯t worry. I feel a little bad about leaving you here like this, but you know¡ The school is more important than you.¡± ¡°Hey!¡± ¡°I¡¯m sorry, it was just a joke. Don¡¯t move so much, when you are sick. Just rest, I¡¯ll try to buy you something at the cafeteria, so you won¡¯t starve in here.¡± Roy nodded when he heard me, and I said goodbye to him. After that I left our room, and entered the hallway of our dormitory. I didn¡¯t like walking in this place without Roy, but there weren¡¯t many people in here anyway. Probably because I left later than usual, because I didn¡¯t have my morning classes with Mr. Smith. For that reason my usual walk wasn¡¯t that bad. Some of the students that didn¡¯t leave yet would just look at me with their usual eyes, but nothing else happened, and after few minutes I finally left the dormitory. When I did, I was greeted by the sun that was shining on me, and the beautiful garden that was before me. As I still had some time, I decided to walk slowly, admiring the view. Many of the flowers planted in here were really rare, brought here by botanists club. The garden was big, but the more you walked through it, the more trees there were planted. Finally, when you got to the middle of it it looked more like a forest than a garden. Of course, even the trees here weren¡¯t exactly normal, but I enjoyed taking a stroll in their shadow. ¡°Hmm? The lake?¡± I said to myself, as I looked to my left. There, behind high grass was was a big lake. I remembered Roy telling me, that we would go there after our classes. In the end we didn¡¯t have a chance to come, not that it makes me sad. There are no people there? Well, I can¡¯t imagine anyone coming here, rather than sleeping. People in here spend too much time on learning, and they don¡¯t have too much time for themselves. The boys yesterday just had too much free time, because they learned about Mr. Smith¡¯s sickness, when they already went to their classes. ¡°Well, I still have a lot of time¡¡± I said to myself, and started walking towards the lake. Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences. Spending a moment with the nature could be a good thing, and I still had a lot of time. It¡¯s not like I was in a hurry to meet a friend in the university or anything. Staying in here for a moment is better, than having all those nobles just stare at me. It took me some time, to walk through the high grass near the lake, but I finally approached the water. When I did, I slowly dipped my right hand into it. ¡°It¡¯s warm¡¡± I said, to myself, while thinking about jumping into the water. Not that I would do it, but the thought was a nice one. It was a good place. You could hear the birds singing in the trees, and the sun was nicely reflected on the surface of water. Just staying there was relaxing, and made my brain stop for a moment, which was a really good thing for me. As I played with the water, I noticed a small hut on the other end of the lake. It looked like a place where you would put tools inside, and near it there was a small boat. When I saw it, I stood up, and started walking by the shore of the lake towards it. There wasn¡¯t any special reason for that. Maybe I was curious of it, or maybe I was just bored. Maybe I just wanted to have something to do, while I was waiting for the time to pass. I just walked, while looking around me, and admiring the view. Once in a while I would hear a fish playing in the water, and the water splashing near it. The nature in this world was similar to this from my old world. Of course, there are things like dragons, or other magical beasts, but you don¡¯t see them everyday. I don¡¯t even see dwarves, and elves very often. The country in which I live in is mostly populated by humans. It¡¯s not like there is some discrimination or anything, but everyone is rather careful of each other, and the interactions between different races are stiff. Well, I should get my magical licence for now. I will think about exploring the world afterwards. Not like it matters anyway¡ ¡°Hmm? And what is that?¡± I said, as I noticed small footprints on the mud near the water. I was maybe one hundred meters from the hut, and the footprints were leading to it. Fresh¡ Small¡ School boots¡ Girl? Made recently? More footprints¡ Older than the one before¡ Visits this place regularly? Well, more or less I knew who that person could be, and what she would do here, but I still followed the lead. A minute later I was standing before the hut. It was made of wood, and painted in a blue color. It wasn¡¯t big, and there probably wasn¡¯t anything interesting inside of it anyway. After I approached it, I circled it around, to make sure that there wasn¡¯t anyone near it. ¡°So she left already? Well, maybe it¡¯s better for me.¡± I said, as I sat on the dry ground ¡°Anyway, this place isn¡¯t so bad. I can imagine why she would choose it. There aren¡¯t many people in here, and it¡¯s rather open.¡± This girl¡ Should I confront her? Or should I leave her alone? A little blackmail could help me. This place I was sitting on. It was dry for a reason. Someone was using fire magic in here. Judging by the footprints a student, and the usage of spells by the students outside of their classes is strictly prohibited. Maybe a student, that had the same kind of mud on their shoes yesterday, as I have now on my shoes? I thought about those things, as I looked at the grass to my right. Someone wiped their shoes in it. Judging be the size of flattened grass, the same person that left those footsteps. Class president. Well, I can¡¯t really be sure of it. There is only a high possibility that it¡¯s her. Muddy shoes from yesterday¡ Too many books in the bag¡ She probably packed her scrolls in it. And fire magic. We just had it on our lecture. It would be too much of a coincidence, that the person who uses this place for their own training, used fire spells today. Should I use this information? Or I shouldn¡¯t? She was a little bit of a pain yesterday, and I don¡¯t want her to sniff around me. I will write some of my next tests badly, to make sure that her dad doesn¡¯t catch up, and I will blackmail her into staying out of my way. As I thought about those things, I smiled. I¡¯m not that stupid. She is a noble, and a daughter of the principal. It¡¯s not like something like that would work¡ And her dad has catched up already. Writing my new tests badly would just prove his theory. Interested in me? Are you sure that you want me to be interested in you? ¡°Clean - duration five minutes.¡± I chanted a little spell, and pointed my finger at my boots ¡°You aren¡¯t the only one capable of breaking the rules president.¡± I laughed a little, when I said this. She should learn this spell, it would make her life easier. After that I stood up from the place I was standing on, and started moving towards the road leading to the university. Once again I walked by the shore, but this time my shoes didn¡¯t get dirty at all. It seemed as if the mud couldn¡¯t even touch my boots, that were clean no matter where I stepped in. ¡°Destroy traces of me being here.¡± I said while walking, and the footsteps I was making now, and the ones I made before started disappearing. Casting a spell in here was dangerous, and there was possibility that president was just treated better, because she is the daughter of the principal, but I didn¡¯t sense any magic sensors around there. A simple spell like this shouldn¡¯t have any consequences, and I don¡¯t want Emily to see that my boots are dirty. Other students wouldn¡¯t probably care about it, but she would understand that I was in her spot. It¡¯s not like she would know that I exposed what she was doing, but I don¡¯t want her to get suspicious, and careful around me. I need to have something on her, for our future meetings. Well, maybe I¡¯m too cautious? I thought about those things, and after some time I got to the road. If I went straight to the university, I would still make it without any problems. ¡°Well, I should go now.¡± I said to myself, and at the same time the spell that was on by boots deactivated itself. 9. University of magic - My first "fight"? A university, place of new experiences, and old problems. If one were to ask me, what I think of it, I would probably say, that I don¡¯t really have an opinion. It would be true to some degree, but there are many thoughts that my older ¡°me¡± has regarding to this subject. This place sucks. Yeah, as much as my new ¡°intelligence¡± helps me understand the things happening around me, it also makes some of the things needlessly complicated. One of those things is fighting, and defending myself. As much as I try to control myself, and the thoughts that I have, it¡¯s hard to do while you swing your fists, and try to stay alive. For that reason I avoid danger. Of course, it is normal to avoid it, and its normal to want to stay alive, but sometimes it¡¯s better to just take a punch. One of situations, that proves it¡¯s better to take a hit, is when a nobleman challenges you to a duel. It doesn¡¯t matter if you are right or wrong, the one thing that matters is that you are a commoner. Why I think about those things, while standing before the gate leading to the university grounds? The reason for that is a boy, standing before me with a confident gaze, and clenched fists. A little taller than me, with short blonde hair, and beautiful green eyes. Popular among the girls, and respected by men, he is someone that anyone learning in this place aspires to be, a true nobleman. ¡°Hey, commoner. It seems that we have a score to set.¡± Lucas said, and looked at me with anger. Quite a language for a ¡°true nobleman¡± but I can understand him. From his point of view I am nothing. As for my point of view, I¡¯m a student taking classes in this university. Yeah, I¡¯m a student in this place, and I simply don¡¯t care¡ ¡°Do you want to hit me? How many times? Can you hit my stomach? I don¡¯t want it to be visible.¡± I said, and he looked even more angry than before, as if I said something wrong ¡°Don¡¯t tell me that you came here for a fight? Do you want us to throw fists at each other near the entrance to the school? What was the next step in your plan? Getting suspended, and then thrown out of here?¡± ¡°Shut up, or you will regret this! You don¡¯t even understand what you have done, you idiot!¡± It really takes me back. I used to read books that had characters just like him, stupid, oblivious, and somewhat likeable when you get to know them. Well, I don¡¯t intend on getting to know him, but I do think that he is stupid, and oblivious. ¡°Then tell me, what have I done. And do it fast if you can, my classes will start soon.¡± I responded, as if I was the part of the same fairytale as him. To think that it all happened because of some tests that I aced. Is everything going to be such a pain, only because I am not a nobleman? ¡°You stupid¡ Didn¡¯t you hear the rumors about you and Emily? I¡¯m sure you did, and I¡¯m sure that they are but a lie, but still... ¡° as he said those words, he smiled a little ¡°You deserve a beating.¡± ¡°I just asked you, if you want to hit me, but you¡¡± I wanted to repeat my offer, but I was quickly interrupted by Lucas. ¡°Shut up you mongrel! Who do you think I am?! I fight with honor! A commoner wouldn¡¯t understand!¡± You are right, I don¡¯t understand. We are standing before the entrance to the university grounds. One wrong move, and the consequences will be bigger than you can imagine. Well, maybe for me, as for him, he is a nobleman, so maybe he is used to situations like those. Now he will throw a punch, and the next day his father will come to apologise for him. I¡¯m sorry, but my father is blacksmith, and the other one was a civil servant. I don¡¯t think they hold as much power, as your parents do. ¡°I don¡¯t want to do this.¡± I just said, and he looked at me like at an idiot. ¡°What? Are you stupid, or something?! What are you talking about? There is nothing you can do!¡± ¡°Well, I can run past you, and tell the teacher that you wanted to beat me.¡± as I said those words, Lucas smiled. Oh, so you are planning to use your high-birth once again? ¡°And who do you think they are going to believe? A lowly commoner, or me, the oldest son of the head of Bowborne family.¡± You sure a proud one Lucas, can¡¯t take it away from you. ¡°Is your whole life devoted to using your family name?¡± A weird thing¡ I think that I might be irritated right now. It¡¯s not like I was never irritated before, but I thought that I would be the smarter one in situation like this. Is it because there are only two of us, and I don¡¯t need to play my role as a good student? Well anyway, it seemed that I struck a nerve, because he looked at me with a very angry expression. ¡°You commoner¡ You really don¡¯t understand anything?! Those rumors, I¡¯m sure that you like them! Maybe you even think that Emily likes you, but you are nothing. I like to use my name? Well, I do have a name worth using! And what about you, Redsteel?¡± It¡¯s getting boring. I don¡¯t have time for this. ¡°I understand Lucas. It seems that talking to you won¡¯t do me any good.¡± I said, and raised my index finger, pointing it at my head ¡°You see, this guy really hates losing. If it was only about me, I would just let you hit me once or twice, and then that would be it, but he won¡¯t let me.¡± ¡°What are you talking about? Are you not only dumb, but crazy?¡± Lucas replied to my words, with a smile on his face, but I wasn¡¯t crazy. Far from it. The thing I was pointing at, was probably the most logical thing in this world. This thing hates everything that is illogical, and what can be more devoid of logic, than risking your health, or life. Every fight is to death. Every punch can kill you. Everything that scares you, can end your life. I can take care of my own thoughts, as long as I¡¯m not blinded by adrenalin, but when I am¡ ¡°Well, I don¡¯t care about your stupid ideas, as long as I can beat you up. You have only yourself to blame¡ Those stupid rumors are only your fault.¡± Lucas said, and started running towards me. He wasn¡¯t that far away, and yet it seemed as if he wasn¡¯t moving at all. The moment he jumped to attack me, was the moment he stopped moving. And it¡¯s not like he was the only thing that stopped in its tracks either. The leaves, grass, and the clock situated on top of the door to the university. They all stopped moving, as if someone casted a magical spell, that could manipulate time, but no one did. Yeah, it wasn¡¯t because of the spell, but because of me¡ I¡¯m not in danger. I¡¯m not in danger. I¡¯m not in danger. I tried to calm myself down, but there wasn¡¯t much I could do, when I was in a state like this. It would take some time for me to calm myself down, and in this time I would gather as much information as I could. It was the true power of my brain, and the thing I would rather avoid. I looked at the boy, that was now frozen in time. His uniform, hair, hands, and a bag. There was a slight trace of ink, on the left side of his thumb. How old is it? I tried to remember every stain of ink I have ever had, and how it looked afterwards. How it looked, and how much of dry skin was under it. Ten hours¡ It¡¯s fresh. What did he write? Classes¡ We share some of our classes¡ Homework¡ Essay¡ On the defensive magic I think. Eyes. Big, and green, but a little red. Did he rub them with his hands? Allergy? Nose¡ Not running¡ Not allergy? Tired? Homework¡ Ten hours ago was writing¡ Didn¡¯t sleep well? Hair. Has a bed hair¡ Didn¡¯t have time to comb his hair¡ Was sleeping? Didn¡¯t sleep well? Some dirt on the trousers¡ Was sitting on the ground? Waiting for me? Didn¡¯t go to his classes, but waited for me? I am important. Emily is important. More important than learning, even if he is an aspiring mage from a noble family. Shoes. A little bit of dirt. Seems normal. Uniform. A little creased up near the right shoulder¡ Did he lean his head on it while waiting? Tired¡ Didn¡¯t sleep. Right hand. Fist clenched. Muscles are tense, and body a little rotated¡ Will use this hand to attack me. Is looking at my face¡ Will go for it? Nails¡ Played with dirt while waiting? Was bored. Bag¡ Looks rather full¡ Is ready for classes. As I looked at Lucas, I noticed that he was slowly getting near me. The time that once seemed to stop, now was flowing very slowly, and I needed to find something, or I was going to defend myself, and I would rather avoid that. Danger¡ I¡¯m not in danger. I¡¯m not in¡ Building¡ Window¡ Long, dark hair¡ Disturbed face¡ Looking at us¡ Class president, and a teacher¡ Defending myself is dangerous. Can get thrown out from the school. Conclusion - I need to avoid taking the hit, and then get away from him. Reason - I will avoid the danger, and I won¡¯t suffer the consequences of fighting with him. Method - start running away. The time that once was slow, now was flowing normally, and Lucas was quickly getting near me. As much as I would enjoy hitting him in the face with a powerful spell, it wasn¡¯t the way I was doing things in here, and with him going after me, I had a perfect excuse for me being late. You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story. As I turned around, I pondered if it was luck, that made the class president look at us from that window. My brain is hard to appease, and it¡¯s highest priority is to defend me. Normally, I would just beat him really hard, but that couldn¡¯t be the way out from this situation. Yeah, the logic of this brain is hard to appease, but this time I succeeded. One of the reasons for that, is that he was sleepy. Yeah, he didn¡¯t sleep, and he was weak. Normally, I don¡¯t run away, because I¡¯m weaker and slower than most of the people. Instead I fight because it gives me higher chance of winning, and because of my intelligence, every spell I cast will probably get the work done, but now he was weaker. Didn¡¯t sleep for almost whole night, and that gave me the advantage. ¡°Hey! Wait! Are you just going to run!? You coward!¡± Lucas started shouting, as he ran after me. That was a stupid thing to do Lucas. Couldn¡¯t you just make a trap near the trees, and take some guys with you? That¡¯s how I would do it, if I wanted to beat someone up. Don¡¯t tell me that it¡¯s because of your honor. ¡°Hey! Stop! I¡¯m going to beat you up! Stop, or you will regret this!¡± the shouts were starting to get quieter, as he got more tired from running after me. ¡°H-Hey¡ J-Just wait!¡± he finally stopped as we approached the place where the lake was, and I did the same thing ¡°J-Just give me some time¡ A m-moment¡¡± I turned around, and looked at Lucas. He looked pretty tired, and regaining his energy would take him a few minutes. Amount of time, that can be used for many things, but one of them would be flying to this place from the university, with the help of a spell. A spell that is very popular with adventurers, because it gives them a lot of speed, and a spell that would be good to use, if you wanted to catch up to a student, that seemed to want to fight with someone. ¡°J-Just a moment¡ And I will¡¡± ¡°Hey! You there! Stop, and stay where you are!¡± man¡¯s voice came from the above, and when I looked into its direction, I saw a familiar teacher. The one with a long beard, and pointy hat - a person that made those weird, flying fireworks on our lecture. He was flying above the ground in a standing position, and beside him was a girl, that was now grabbing her skirt, to cover anything that could have been seen under it. What is she doing here? Why did he even take her? ¡°T-Teacher?!¡± Lucas shouted, when he looked into his direction. ¡°Silence! I didn¡¯t permit you to speak!¡± the response was cold, and the person that said this, didn¡¯t look too pleased. There was a big wrinkle on his forehead, as if he tried to look angry at all costs. As for the girl beside him, even if she was still grabbing her skirt, her face had the same, blank expression as always. Shouldn¡¯t she be red by now? After quickly getting on the ground, the teacher looked at both of us with anger, and then approached Lucas. ¡°Well, what happened here boy. Could you tell us?¡± ¡°I w-was¡ I m-mean we¡ we were¡ going¡ but¡ I mean¡ There was a problem¡ but I¡¡± with every new word from Lucas, the expression on teacher¡¯s face looked darker, and darker. ¡°Can¡¯t speak, I presume. Well, then can your friend tell us, what was happening here?¡± this time he looked at me. ¡°Yeah. He wanted to beat me.¡± I responded quickly, without thinking too much. It surprised not only the teacher, but also Lucas, that was now looking at me as if I betrayed him for some reason. ¡°You say, that he wanted to beat you. Do you know the reason?¡± ¡°Yeah, he is jealous because of this girl. I think he likes her, and¡¡± ¡°Shut up! Shut up! What are you talking about! You are but a commoner! I should just beat you into a...!¡± Lucas tried to threaten me, but he quickly realised that he made a big mistake. The old man, that was talking to me a moment ago, was now grabbing his ear, as he cried from pain. ¡°Beat him?! Beat him?! You are but a commoner?! And look at yourself now! Who are you?! Who are you?!¡± ¡°I-I am t-the son, of the head¡¡± ¡°Wrong! You are a student! A student! Do you understand!¡± the teacher grabbed his ear even stronger, and Lucas cried once again. I smiled a little, but I didn¡¯t enjoy looking at it that much. It was a waste of time, and probably another reason for people to bully me. It could only mean another troubles. As I looked away from them, I noticed that the girl that also got here, was now staring at me. She looked at me with her usual, blank expression, and yet for some reason she made me feel uncomfortable. There was some mud on her shoes, but it was mostly wiped, probably using this grass near the hut. ¡°Why are you looking at my shoes?¡± a weak voice echoed in my ears, as I heard her, asking me this question. Those two were still ¡°playing¡± with each other, making a lot of noise, and yet, I still heard her clearly. I slowly lifted my gaze, and after that I met her big, blue eyes. She was beautiful. Her small nose, and cute lips. Her long black hair, and even her unfazed face. She was beautiful, but she was also dangerous. ¡°For the same reason, I am now looking at your face.¡± I responded, and my voice was similar to her - cold, without emotions, and hard to read. ¡°And that is?¡± ¡°I can.¡± Well, aren¡¯t I a cool one? This must be the part of my new personality, because I can¡¯t really imagine my old self, looking a girl into her eyes, and saying something so cringy as that. Anyway, it doesn¡¯t really matter right now, as I should probably take care of matters at hand. ¡°Well, well! Aren¡¯t you a stupid one! You will have some big problems, once we return! Hey, you! You are going too! I can imagine, that he was the one being stupid, but I will need the testimony from both of¡¡± ¡°There is no need for that.¡± Emily interrupted the teacher, and he looked at her surprised. ¡°Well, I can understand why you would say that, but I still need¡¡± ¡°Lucas will confess everything. He will describe will utmost details, just how stupid he is, and how much he deserves punishment, so there is no need for him to go with you.¡± as she said those words, she pointed at me. What does she want? What do you truly want from me? The teacher looked at her, and he started thinking. It took him some time, but he finally nodded, and smiled. I don¡¯t know if she persuaded him, or he did it only because she was the daughter of the principal. ¡°Well you are probably right, this one rascal may be everything I need.¡± ¡°W-Wait! Can¡¯t I say anything! I don¡¯t¡¡± Lucas tried to defend himself, or he just tried to take me down with him, but he stopped when he saw the look on Emily¡¯s face. It¡¯s weird, how her usual, blank expression may seem so different all the time. ¡°Well, I should get going for now. The classes will start soon, and I¡¯m sure I¡¯m not the only one, that has something to say to this scoundrel. Want a lft? My spells are strong, and they can take many people.¡± the teacher said, and looked at me. ¡°Oh, there is no need. I might be a little late, but I still don¡¯t want to ride with someone who wanted to beat me. I would rather walk.¡± I said those words, and this weird wizard in pointy hat just nodded. Well, that was my excuse. The real reason was this girl beside me, that was probably going to fly with him. If I can avoid her, then I should do it at all cost. ¡°Well, then young lady¡ Jump on, and we will¡¡± ¡°I¡¯ll walk too.¡± Wait¡ You flew here, and now you are going to walk? Do you even understand how this looks? ¡°Oh? Say no more, I understand everything now! Why you wanted to fly here with me. Well now, I¡¯ll take this rascal alone, and you should enjoy your stroll!¡± a disgusting response, combined with a disgusting smile. ¡°H-Hey! W-Wait! I won¡¯t let you¡¡± ¡°Now, now! Will you shut up!? Fly!¡± the teacher shouted the name of the spell, and at the same time grabbed the ear of the boy stronger, making him cry from pain once again. Was this the equality that I was seeking for so long, because it did put a smile on my face. But now I had bigger problems. Well, a problem to be exact, and it was standing next to me. For a moment, I stood up in place, hoping that she would just start walking to the university on her own, but she didn¡¯t. She didn¡¯t move, and in addition, she was staring at me for the whole time. I returned her gaze, but it didn¡¯t seem to matter for her, because she looked at me all the same. ¡°Is something the matter?¡± I asked, and she tilted her head a little. ¡°No, why do you ask?¡± ¡°You seemed to be looking at me for some time now, and to tell you the truth, it makes me uncomfortable.¡± I said those words, while still looking at her. I don¡¯t know, what she has learned about me, but it should remind her, that her behavior is abnormal. ¡°I see.¡± she just responded quickly, while still staring at me. She¡¯s not normal. You don¡¯t need to be a genius, to deduce that she isn¡¯t normal. Well, I knew it from the beginning, but she really seems different than others. ¡°You see? Well¡ Could you stop staring at me?¡± ¡°No.¡± She¡¯s not normal. She¡¯s far away from normal. ¡°Why?¡± ¡°Because I¡¯m interested in you.¡± ¡°Didn¡¯t we speak about it before? There is nothing great about me, nor there ever was.¡± ¡°Oh, I remember.¡± she said, and tilted her head in the other direction ¡°I remember how you fooled me.¡± How I fooled her? ¡°I don¡¯t really understand, but I should get going now. The classes have already started, and I don¡¯t want to waste any more time, than I have already did.¡± as I said those words, I started walking towards the university. If she didn¡¯t want to move first, then I should be the one to do it. Of course, running away from her would be a little suspicious, but walking shouldn¡¯t be a problem. Our talk will be shorter, if we talk while walking, and if she won¡¯t go after me, then it¡¯s all the better. ¡°Why didn¡¯t you beat him?¡± she said those words, and started following me. ¡°Why didn¡¯t I beat him? What is this question? It¡¯s not like he is weak, and I don¡¯t think that I would stand a chance against him. And even if I did, do you truly think, that I would fight him near the entrance to the school?¡± ¡°Oh, don¡¯t get me wrong, I¡¯m thankful that you didn¡¯t do anything to him¡¡± ¡°Still speaking about things like this. Can you tell me, why you think I was capable of beating him?¡± ¡°I saw it in your eyes.¡± as she said those words, I stopped for a moment to take a look at her. She was staring at the ground, and she stopped moving at the same moment that I did. ¡°Are you joking right now?¡± She¡¯s a dangerous one. A really dangerous one. Her talent must be massive. For a person to have a talent like this¡ ¡°I¡¯m not joking¡¡± ¡°Yeah, yeah¡ Whatever you want. I could beat him in a second, but I didn¡¯t. Was it what you wanted to hear? Can we move on now?¡± as I said those words, I once again turned towards the university and started walking. I could hear her footsteps, so she was still following me, but she wasn¡¯t saying anything. Not like it made me sad or anything. On the contrary, her silence was my blessing. This new world... I had a lot of knowledge about it, but I still didn¡¯t even know half the things I wanted to. It¡¯s still too early. Too early to... ¡°Hey, look out!¡± Wait, what? I turned around, when I heard her shouting, and when I did, I saw a small rock now flying towards my face. As for the reason it was there, she threw it. Her stance, and the look in her eyes told me that it was her. As I watched the rock coming towards my face, I felt the danger, and the danger meant only one thing¡ World once again slowed down before me, and the informations started pouring into my brain. Informations about the little fly, that was now suspended in the air before my face, or about the plants, that were planted in this garden. Informations about the rock, it¡¯s velocity, size, and acceleration. Finally, informations about the girl, now standing before me motionless, in a stupid pose. Slow down. I thought about those words, and then I put mana into them. When my brain made sure, that the rock has been affected by the spell, it started to calm down, and the time once again started flowing in its normal speed. After that I looked at the girl, and she looked at me, with her usual, blank expression. ¡°Why did you do that?¡± I asked, and she approached me a little. ¡°You know what?¡± she asked, while walking towards me ¡°You are pretty smart. If someone were to ask me, then I would say that you are probably one of the smartest people I have ever known. And yet¡¡± she made a small pause, and when she was nearly touching me, she continued speaking ¡°You really suck, at the art of deception, Matthew.¡± That was the first time, when I saw her smiling. 10. University of magic - I am a Cupid now, or so it seems I was sitting in my class with Roy, that was trying to talk with me from time to time, but I didn¡¯t care. I was thinking about many things, and his jokes weren¡¯t one of them. Math¡ I hated math. I was never good at it, and I never intended to study anything near it, and yet it seems so easy now. It is the basis of every scientific subject, and something important for every mage. You can calculate everything, for example time that passed since an event. Let¡¯s say that two weeks ago, a girl has attacked you with a stone, and after that refused to talk with you. Everyone would feel weirded out¡ Let¡¯s say that a girl was staring at you all the time, as if she knew something about you, but now she avoids your eyes like fire. What would a normal person think? Does she like me? Does she hate? Why did she threw a stone? Math is easy¡ Easier than humans, and their stones. I looked around at the class. It looked like something from my old highschool, but without a projector, and students sleeping or using their smartphones. As for where I was sitting, of course it was the left back corner of the class. Place beloved by every anime main character, and I think for a good reason. Sitting here, I could look out the window whenever I wanted, and I wasn¡¯t attracting too much attention from the other students. Well, except one noble, now sitting before me. ¡°Hey, why don¡¯t we talk? It¡¯s not like we will use math in our daily life anyway.¡± Roy turned around, and said while smiling. It¡¯s not like we will use it anyway¡ I heard it probably hundreds of times. There is always this one student, that is always saying those words in every class. It doesn¡¯t matter if it¡¯s math, physics, or biology. What matters is that ¡°we won¡¯t use it anyway¡±. ¡°It might shock you, but I want to learn new things, so if you want to talk find someone else.¡± I responded quietly, and Roy looked at me with sad eyes. ¡°Oh, don¡¯t be like that. It¡¯s not like you need to¡¡± ¡°Hey! You sitting there!¡± Roy¡¯s voice was interrupted by the teacher, that was now looking at him with angry eyes ¡°Yeah, you with the red hair. What do you think my classes are? A place for you to gossip?¡± ¡°N-No! I¡¯m sorry!¡± a quick response, that made some of the students laugh a little. A one girl was smiling especially bright. Lily¡ She was a beautiful girl, with big, blue eyes, and curly, blonde hair reaching to her shoulders. Her face looked kind, almost as if she never got angry. Always looking at people with understanding eyes, a little smile, and small blush. Even if she wasn¡¯t born to a really powerful family, she was still loved by boys. Of course, it was hard to call their feelings ¡°love¡±, because they liked her mainly because of her looks. Her face was nice, and cute, but the thing that attracted the most of the attention was her chest, and how big it was. She also had a nice posture, that highlighted her body. A big, cheerful smile¡ ¡°Just stay quiet, if you want to stay in this class.¡± the teacher responded to the Roy, and turned around to face the blackboard. The girl, that was sitting to the right from the Roy, was still smiling, while looking at him. Wait¡ What does it mean when a girl smiles at you? I have a good reason to ask this question. There was this one student with a rock, that doesn¡¯t want to speak with me now. ¡°Roy, I think that someone is looking at you.¡± I said quietly, and he turned around to look at me with angry eyes, as if I betrayed him ¡°This is not the time to be offended. Look to your right.¡± After a moment, he finally did what I asked him to do, and then he met the gaze of a really beautiful girl. Needless to say, he got really red, but there was someone that was even redder right now. Lily had a big blush on her cheeks, and she quickly looked away from him, while making a very weird face. Avoids his eyes¡ Doesn¡¯t want to look at him¡ Embarrassed¡ Is this the reason Emily finally left me alone? Is she embarrassed? Is it because of the rock? Or does she want to blackmail me? I¡¯m sure that I casted a spell in her presence. Well, nothing happened in those two weeks, so maybe she¡¯s waiting for something? It¡¯s easier, when there is a cause, and a result. It¡¯s easy, because I just need a little deduction to know what exactly is happening around me. But now? There is no cause, or rather there are too many of them. She can have hundreds of reasons for wanting to avoid me, from the most stupid ones, to the ones that can really make my life harder. ¡°Oh¡ Oh, man, did you see that?¡± Roy finally started speaking, when he turned around to me, but this time he was quieter, so the teacher didn¡¯t get angry at us. ¡°Did I see what?¡± I asked, and he looked at me like at an idiot. ¡°Lily¡ Did you see her blushing? You think that she likes me?¡± he whispered, to make sure that she didn¡¯t hear him. Well, she got pretty red right there, and she was smiling like an idiot before. But does she like him? I¡¯m not good at things like that. Someone being red can have many causes, from high temperature, to stress¡ She might as well be stressed, because you looked at her without warning. Or maybe she is afraid of men. Unauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Report any sightings. So many causes, and not much information. ¡°I don¡¯t know, better look at the blackboard.¡± I responded, and Roy bent a little closer to me. ¡°Hey, man¡ Don¡¯t be like that. Tell me¡ Tell me please, what do you think?¡± ¡°Why do you think my opinion matters right now?¡± ¡°Please¡ Just tell me what you think¡¡± Roy said, while looking at me with calling for help in his eyes. Emotions. If we are talking about them, I am as smart as the next person. Of course, there are some signs that can tell you, that someone likes you. Higher pulse, blushing, sweating, nervousness, unlogical excitement¡ And yet, you can never be sure, how the brain of the other person works. Equation always works the same, a number always has the same value, but the brain changes all the time. Higher pulse can be caused by stress. Blushing, can be caused by sickness. Brain isn¡¯t always logical. ¡°I don¡¯t know. There is a really high possibility, but I can¡¯t be sure¡¡± I responded, and Roy looked at me with happiness. ¡°Really?¡± ¡°Yeah. Logically, there is a high possibility, but if you ask me as a person¡¡± I started talking, and he the happiness in his eyes disappeared ¡°Why would she like you?¡± I said those words, and he hit me lightly in my head. ¡°Hey! Why would you say¡¡± ¡°Hey! The red one! You really want to be thrown out, don¡¯t you?!¡± the teacher once again interrupted Roy, but this time he looked really angry. Well, the situation was similar to the one before. Some of the students were laughing, and Roy once again started apologising for his behaviour, but the girl wasn¡¯t looking at him now. She was looking away, as if she didn¡¯t want to repeat the situation from before. ¡°Listen to me¡ I am a good person, so I will let you stay. But do something like that once again, and I will throw you out. Do you understand?!¡± ¡°Yes sir!¡± Ninety percent? Maybe more? Well, but Roy really is one of a kind. Shouting in a class, and risking his precious time in the school, because of a small insult. It¡¯s not like I was lying to him back then. I really can¡¯t understand why she would like him. Of course, for me he is a great man, that treats a commoner like me with respect, and even like a friend. But for her? I don¡¯t think that she fell in love with his kind heart. ¡°You¡ Don¡¯t say things like that¡¡± as if he couldn¡¯t learn from his mistakes, Roy once again started whispering to me. ¡°What do you want now?¡± ¡°Just be serious¡ You think she likes me?¡± ¡°Well, there is a high possibility, that she does. I would say ninety percent, but remember that I can be wrong, and she can also be sick right now, and stressed because of her phobia of men¡¡± ¡°Eh, you can¡¯t even take this seriously, can you?¡± Roy said, while making a sad face, but the one thing he didn¡¯t know, was that I was serious ¡°Just forget it. She probably just thinks that I am a clown, or something.¡± ¡°Well, there is a possibility of that, up to ninety nine perc¡¡± ¡°Shut up.¡± Well, maybe I was making fun of him, but I can¡¯t really make a decision like that for someone else. Does she like him, or does she not? She probably does, but what does he want from me? Does he want me to ensure him, that if he asks her out, she will say yes? I can¡¯t do that. Even if she likes him, she might still have reasons to reject him. The more important questions is, does he likes her, not if she does like him. Does he likes her so much, that he don¡¯t care if she can reject his feelings¡ ¡°Just think about it for yourself, and find your own conclusion. I shouldn¡¯t be the one, telling you what to do, or what she feels.¡± I said quietly, thinking that it will probably anger him, but Roy only nodded with serious face. ¡°Yeah, you are right.¡± he smiled after saying that, and added ¡°You just pretend to be stupid from time to time, don¡¯t you? You little¡¡± ¡°Hey! You once again?! I told you to behave yourself!¡± the teacher noticed Roy talking to me, and looked at him with angry expression ¡°You really don¡¯t change¡ Leave the class! Now! And think about your behaviour!¡± ¡°B-But teacher¡¡± ¡°Didn¡¯t you hear me? Think about what you have done, and don¡¯t return until you know how to behave yourself!¡± Am I the lucky one here? I talked with him for all this time, but he is the only one taking the blame. Well, the other reason for that might be that Roy was just talking louder than me, but it¡¯s better to think that you were born a lucky person. It¡¯s better to think that you are special. I looked at him, as he was packing his books into the bag. After that he started slowly leaving the classroom, and when approached the door he looked at me, and waved his hand with a smile. ¡°Why¡ What are you doing here! Didn¡¯t I tell you to leave¡¡± the teacher started shouting at him, but Roy only left the class, while not listening to his words ¡°I can¡¯t believe him, who would think that children are so badly behaved these days¡¡± Well, it didn¡¯t make me happy that he waved at me, because he drew the attention of other people to me. As for the girl, she was now looking at the door with a concerned look. Are you that worried about him? I didn¡¯t really care about it, as I sat in my chair, and looked at the blackboard. Having Roy out of they way had its advantages, and of them was that I could learn in peace now. It¡¯s not like I really needed to make an effort to understand the things that were written by the teacher, but I still prefer the peace of being left alone. I looked at the blackboard, and started reading the equations that the teacher wrote. As I learned, the time was slowly passing, and before I knew it, the lesson was already ending. I don¡¯t know if it¡¯s because I now enjoy the things, that I wouldn¡¯t enjoy at all in the old world, or because there wasn¡¯t much time to begin with, but the lesson passed really fast. As for the Roy, he didn¡¯t return after leaving, so he probably doesn¡¯t really care about the subject. Well, if I was in his place, I would beg to stay in the classroom, but I wouldn¡¯t be in his place to begin with. I slowly started packing books to my bag, thinking about returning to the dormitory. This was the last class for today, and I felt tired from whole day spent in here. ¡°Um¡ I¡¯m sorry¡¡± I heard a voice of a young girl, that was now standing next to me. ¡°Something happened?¡± I asked, while putting the last book into my bag. ¡°N-No¡ I mean, yeah¡ I mean, Roy¡ You know him, don¡¯t you?¡± I looked at the girl that was talking to me, and she was a real beauty. Her cute face, blonde hair, and small lips were really appealing. This girl was now blushing, while looking at me. ¡°Yeah, he is a friend of mine. Something about him?¡± I asked, but I already knew the answer. ¡°To tell you the truth, I like him.¡± Lily responded, and smiled a little. Well, what should I do now? 11. University of magic - I am a Cupid now, or so it seems - 2 Likes him? Well, I can understand that, but for some reason she talked to me about it. What does she want? Help? Or maybe she wants to know something? I don¡¯t really want to be the person which helps their love blossom, but there are things that can be gained from talking to her. Things that I can use. ¡°Well, I understand you had a reason for wanting to talk with me about those feelings of yours.¡± I said, as we were walking through the hallway of the university. As I predicted, we have drawn a lot of unwanted attention, simply because a commoner was speaking with one of the most popular girls among the students. For that reason I needed to be cautious. ¡°O-Oh¡ Yeah, you are right. I had a reason, but can we find a place with less people around? I don¡¯t want to talk about it here.¡± Lily said, while looking around. I could imagine, that talking about the person you like, while being stared at by everyone around her made her feel uneasy, so I just accepted her offer, and we headed into the direction of the door, leading to the outside. When we exited the main building of the university, there were no people around us. Most of them probably returned to the dormitory, or still had their classes. ¡°I¡¯m sorry that I just talked to you out of the blue¡ It seems that I¡¯m troubling you¡¡± Lily said quietly, and looked at me ¡°I hope you don¡¯t mind it.¡± she then added, and smiled faintly. She wasn¡¯t short, but I was still taller than her, and yet it was hard to look her into the eyes. The reason for that was simple, deception. I felt danger while walking with her, but it wasn¡¯t something similar to my ¡°fight¡± with Lucas. It was something more sophisticated, and hidden behind her smile. ¡°Don¡¯t worry, you don¡¯t trouble me at all. Let¡¯s find a place to sit.¡± I just responded briefly, and started walking towards one of the benches, that were placed before the entrance to the university. ¡°Allow me to ask, how did you become his friend? I don¡¯t want you to take it wrong¡ but you aren¡¯t really popular here, are you?¡± Lily asked, as we sat on one of the benches ¡°I don¡¯t really care about your birth, but many people seem to despise you because of it.¡± Her words were nice, and comforting, but there wasn¡¯t even an ounce of compassion in them. And yet, there was no way that she fooled me. I was almost sure that she liked him¡ ¡°It was natural. After becoming roommate, and spending a lot of the time together, we became good friends.¡± I replied, and she nodded ¡°Well, then can you tell me for what you like him?¡± ¡°T-Talking about this outloud, is a little¡¡± she blushed, and looked at me, as she was saying it ¡°He¡¯s nice, helpful, and handsome. I just like him, that¡¯s all.¡± Lily then added, and smiled. ¡°Well, I can understand that you like him, but why did you tell me about it? Do you want something from me?¡± ¡°Yeah¡ To tell you the truth, I would like you to help me.¡± ¡°Help you with what?¡± ¡°Help me become his girlfriend.¡± ¡°Oh? And how should I help you with that?¡± I asked her, and she leaned towards me. ¡°I¡¯ll tell you later¡ So, will you help me?¡± she then whispered into my ear. Now, if I were my older self I would probably say yes, while jumping from happiness. Don¡¯t ask me why... My social life wasn¡¯t a successful one, and I didn¡¯t really talk to many girls. Yeah, if it was my older self, but this boy now sitting on this bench lived whole fifteen years without the memories of my old life. He spent fifteen years on studying, learning, and understanding the world around him. He lived his life only to gather knowledge. ¡°Stay away from me. It makes me uncomfortable.¡± I said when I felt the touch of her breath on my ears, and then I looked her into eyes ¡°Now, why won¡¯t you tell me how this help will look like.¡± After my words, her face was hard to describe. She was surprised, angry, and trying to smile at the same time. ¡°W-Well, you are a weird one, aren¡¯t you?¡± Lily responded to my words, with squinted eyes. ¡°Did you want to talk, or insult me?¡± ¡°Oh, yeah¡ I¡¯m sorry.¡± the girl said, and her usual smiling face returned ¡°Well, for now I would want you to tell me about him¡ You know, what he likes, dislikes. His family, and things like this.¡± If her true objective is to become his girlfriend, then I can imagine she would want to know those things, but if I¡¯m wrong, then I shouldn¡¯t speak to her about any of this. ¡°You want to know many things¡¡± I responded, and she sighed a little. ¡°You think so? It¡¯s only natural to be interested in someone you like.¡± It¡¯s only natural to be interested in someone you like? As she said those words, I thought about a girl, that liked to say ¡°I¡¯m interested in you¡±. Well, as for now she was just avoiding me all the time, after trying to hit me with a rock. ¡°If you like him, can¡¯t you just tell him that?¡± I said those words, and she looked at me like at an idiot. ¡°What are you talking about?! Are you stupid or something? W-Wait! Don¡¯t go!¡± she tried to stop me, after I stood up when I heard her insults ¡°I¡¯m sorry, I don¡¯t know why I said this¡¡± ¡°You are a proud girl, aren¡¯t you?¡± Reading on this site? This novel is published elsewhere. Support the author by seeking out the original. ¡°Wait¡ What?¡± ¡°I said that you are proud¡ I¡¯ll think about helping you, but you should give me something in return.¡± when I said this, she covered her body with her hands ¡°Don¡¯t be stupid. I wasn¡¯t talking about something like this.¡± ¡°Then what do you want? Money?¡± ¡°No, I don¡¯t want money. I want something far simpler.¡± I said, and looked at the sky ¡°I want a proof, that you love him.¡± A laugh was her only response. She laughed because of my words, but I didn¡¯t mind. I liked money, and even if I was now a super intelligent boy, I still liked girls. I liked those things, but I liked my friend much more than that. A friend that tells me stupid jokes, while not paying attention on the lessons. The same friend, that talks to himself while he sleeps, and sometimes even wakes me up. Finally, the same friend that took my side, when everyone was against me. A logic of this brain is hard to appease, but I don¡¯t think that even he would mind taking a beating for Roy. ¡°Oh¡ I-I¡¯m sorry¡ B-But the thing you said¡¡± Lily finally started talking, while still trying to grasp some air ¡°It¡¯s hilarious!¡± she then added, and started laughing once again. ¡°You think it¡¯s hilarious?¡± I asked, and looked at her. The girl that everyone loved. This kind looking girl, with a quiet voice, and beautiful smile was no more. She didn¡¯t even care about acting anymore. I don¡¯t know what made her so relaxed, but one of those things was probably my status. I was a commoner, so there was no reason to be kind to me, and there also wasn¡¯t a reason to be careful. A stupid mistake on her part. ¡°Are you a romantic, or something? The proof of love? What are you even talking about.¡± she finally started speaking, after she calmed down ¡°It¡¯s true that I like him, and that I want to be with him, but you must be a crazy one, to speak about something like this in this world.¡± ¡°In this world?¡± when I asked, she looked at the ground. ¡°Yeah, in this world! In this world full of hatred, and liars! I¡¯m sure you know what I mean, commoner¡¡± she said, and looked at me with a sarcastic smile ¡°But he isn¡¯t like that. He took you in, and helped you. He¡¯s not like others¡ He¡¯s not a part of this world¡¡± Lily, you would be shocked, but I¡¯m also not a part of this world. In my case, literally. ¡°So you did fell in love with his kind heart¡¡± I said quietly to myself, but she heard me, and stood up from the bench. ¡°And even if I did, then what?! Is it so wrong, to do so?!¡± Red¡ Her cheeks are red, and eyes are full of passion. Truth? It¡¯s the truth¡ Logic behind it? There is none, I just believe her, and if I believe her, then I should¡ ¡°Okay, I believe you.¡± I said, and also stood up from the bench, now looking her into the eyes ¡°But I won¡¯t help you.¡± ¡°W-Why? Didn¡¯t you tell me, that I needed to prove¡¡± ¡°Oh, don¡¯t get me wrong, I¡¯m sure that you look up to him. He is like a sun to you, someone true in this world of nobles, and fake smiles. But do you love him?¡± ¡°Again with this nonsense? You think that a world is a fairytale, where everyone¡¡± ¡°You don¡¯t understand... He likes you, you know? You should tell him about your feelings, and I¡¯m sure he will accept them.¡± I said, and she smiled. ¡°And here I thought I needed you. Well, I should probably thank you, for telling me¡¡± ¡°And then he will break up with you.¡± as I said those words, the look on her face changed. She wasn¡¯t trying to put up a smile anymore, and her face seemed to lose all of the fake kindness that she was wearing so proudly before. ¡°What did you say?¡± she asked with a cold voice, while looking straight into my eyes. Her gaze was cold, but also full of anger. ¡°I said that he will break up with you. I¡¯ll give you two days¡ Well, up to three, because Roy is a kind person.¡± ¡°Are you joking right now?¡± her words once again were cold, and she was still staring at me. ¡°I¡¯m not¡ If Roy is your sun, then you must be a moon. They way you talk, move, and behave. It¡¯s disgusting.¡± I said, and noticed that she was clenching one of her fists ¡°When I looked at you at the class, blushing because of him I thought that you are beautiful, but it seems that you fooled me. You are fake, and I won¡¯t give you my friend, even if¡¡± ¡°Shut up!¡± a loud scream, interrupted my voice. The girl before me was angry, and I could see in her eyes, that she wanted to hit me. ¡°Why? Am I wrong?¡± ¡°What do you know!? You know nothing! Speaking about stupid things, and thinking that you are smart! You know what you are?!¡± she stopped for a moment, and smiled in a disgusting way ¡°You are a dog. A disgusting peasant, not worthy my attention. I don¡¯t need you, and I¡¯m sure he doesn¡¯t need you too. No one needs you, and no one ever will. You should just disappear, and never return to this place.¡± Eh¡ What should I say? Everything went as planned? I looked at the girl, now smiling before me. She was proud of herself, and there wasn¡¯t anyone that could hear her. Anyone, but a boy I saw few minutes ago looking at us from behind the building, probably concerned that I talked with a girl he likes. Well, he liked. ¡°Thanks for telling me everything I wanted to know. Want a proof of something? I just gave you a proof, that you are nothing, and you should know that a commoner will never best the¡¡± ¡°It¡¯s enough!¡± a loud voice echoed in the distance. A familiar voice, that I knew so well. I waited, and looked as the boy that was hiding behind the building a moment ago, was now walking towards us. A boy with red hair, and angry face. ¡°Roy? Wait, you don¡¯t understand, he was¡¡± ¡°Shut up.¡± once again, Roy interrupted her, and after a moment he was standing next to us. Well, he looked pissed. Really pissed. Never saw him so pissed before in my life. I always thought, that his reactions when people were bullying me were a little exaggerated, but it seemed that I was wrong. ¡°Wait! Please, listen to me, I didn¡¯t¡¡± ¡°I told you to shut up!¡± I didn¡¯t say anything, and just stared at him. When he noticed my gaze, he looked at my with sadness, and then approached me. ¡°I¡¯m sorry, Matthew¡¡± he said, and put his hand on my shoulder. ¡°What are you sorry for? Nothing really, happened, and it¡¯s not like it¡¯s your fau¡¡± ¡°I¡¯m sorry!¡± he shouted, and looked me into my eyes ¡°I¡¯m sorry for being one of them! I¡¯m sorry that you need to listen to their words!¡± ¡°As I said, why would you apologise¡ It¡¯s not as if you are the one, that is¡¡± ¡°If they won¡¯t apologise, then I will! If they won¡¯t treat you like a human being, then I will!¡± Huh? I didn¡¯t know that you were so¡ ¡°Let¡¯s go¡ I don¡¯t want to stay here any longer. I don¡¯t even want to look at her.¡± he said, and started walking towards the gate. I just followed him, while thinking about his words. ¡°Wait! You don¡¯t understand¡¡± Lily still tried to say something, but he didn¡¯t care about her. He was just walking, and I was following him slowly. It made me happy. It made me happy that he was so angry because of what she said, but the truth was a little bit different. I planned it. From the point in time, when I decided to help her, I planned it all. Well, it might look like I¡¯m not helping her right now, but the truth is a little bit different. When I told her that he would break up with her¡ That was the truth. When I told her that I won¡¯t help her¡ That was a lie. Well, for now I will need a proof. A big enough proof, that even he will believe her, after what she did. 12. University of magic - I am a Cupid now, or so it seems - 3 We were walking through the garden, heading towards the dormitory. Roy wasn¡¯t in hurry, so I just slowly followed him, while admiring the view. He wasn¡¯t saying anything, so I didn¡¯t say anything either, but I had a few questions for him. Well they weren¡¯t really important, so I just looked at his back, while thinking about a few things. Things that I needed to do, in order for her to become someone he can count on. Of course, the decision will be mostly hers, but did it to Roy, so I should take responsibility for my actions. This little¡ play of mine. I didn¡¯t know that he would take it so seriously. You are good, as long as you have one person you can count on¡ Is it truly the truth? Can you truly say that, and be sure, that what you are saying is true? People need more than a one person¡ More than two, or three¡ And if Roy will continue defending me like this, then he might as well have nothing. We were now just passing the lake, and I looked at it. As always, there weren¡¯t any people near it, but it still looked nice. ¡°Hey, Roy. Remember when you told me, that we will go to the lake to have fun? It¡¯s a shame that we never could.¡± I said those words, and the boy before me stopped. He stood there for a minute, not saying anything, and I didn¡¯t say anything either. I just looked at him, and finally he turned around, with a small smile on his face. ¡°Want to go now?¡± Roy the said, but after that laughed a little ¡°What am I even saying¡¡± he then added, and looked at me. There was sadness in his eyes, and he seemed to not know, what to do. I was still silent, and I just stared at him. I knew what he might have been thinking about, but I couldn¡¯t make any decisions for him. If this plan of mine was going to work, then his every next decision, and every next decision of hers, will need to be their own. Roy once again smiled, but this time there wasn¡¯t any sadness in his smile at all. It was just a big, cheerful smile, of a young boy. ¡°Let¡¯s go! I don¡¯t care about anything! I just want to swim!¡± he then shouted, and started undressing himself, while walking towards the lake. ¡°Okay¡¡± I just replied shortly, and slowly followed him. Uniform, trousers, boots. He was taking them all off, while walking, and it looked a little comical. I didn¡¯t undress myself, and just looked at the boy, that was now standing before the lake, in only his underwear. ¡°Hey! Take those things off! We are going to swim!¡± ¡°I¡¯m right after you¡¡± ¡°Well¡¡± Roy replied, and turned around to face the lake ¡°As you wish!¡± he then shouted, and jumped right into the water. He had a muscular body. Of course, it wasn¡¯t even near those guys you sometimes see in TV, flexing while being painted like an orange, but he had a body that girls would like. He was thin, with visible muscles, and he was also tall. ¡°Hey! Now you! It¡¯s warm!¡± The sun was still high, and we had some time before we would need to come back to dormitory, but looking at him like that, made a little smile appear on my face. ¡°You know what? I don¡¯t really feel like swimming¡ I should probably return to the dormitory.¡± as I said those words, I slowly started to turn around, and heard his panicked shouts. ¡°Hey! Hey you! Where do you think you are going! You want only me to look like an idiot! You little¡¡± I heard his voice, and saw as he grabbed some water into his hands. After that he threw it at me, spraying some of it on my uniform, and trousers. ¡°H-Hahaha! You look like you wet yourself!¡± Ryan shouted, and pointed at my crotch. Indeed, weirdly big amount of water landed there, and it made it look pretty bad. ¡°Hahahaha! Did you wet yourself?! Now, now, let¡¯s go swimming toge¡ Hey! Wait! Leave my clothes alone!¡± ¡°Why should I? Only my clothes are going to be wet?¡± I asked, while holding his uniform, trousers, and boots. ¡°I¡¯m sorry! I¡¯m sorry! Please!¡± Roy shouted, and after that I put down his clothes. Then, I slowly started to undress, and he just looked at me while smiling. I thought that it was a little creepy, and maybe Lily wasn¡¯t his objective after all, but I didn¡¯t say anything, and went inside the water. ¡°Oh¡ It¡¯s really is warm.¡± I said, and he laughed. ¡°Of course it¡¯s warm! Now, you want to swim?¡± Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions. ¡°Where to?¡± ¡°You see this hut there? Let¡¯s swim there, and who gets there first, wins.¡± Roy started explaining to me, the rules of his little challenge, but for some reason I felt danger while thinking about swimming to that place. ¡°I don¡¯t want to get near this place¡¡± I said, and and he looked at me with a weird look. ¡°Oh, I understand. You are scared, aren¡¯t you? Scared that I might¡¡± ¡°Yeah, I¡¯m scared, so you win.¡± I interrupted him, and he looked at me with disappointment. ¡°It doesn¡¯t make me happy¡¡± he once again grabbed some water into his hands ¡°At all!¡± and then he threw it at me. After that he started laughing, and swimming around. I just played with the water like a child. I wasn¡¯t good at swimming in my old world, and this body that I had wasn¡¯t helping at all. I was weak, and not used to long exercise, so I just looked at him, and enjoyed the view. For me, it was a nice way of spending some of my free time, but also a way to make him relieve his stress. I¡¯m sure that he had many stupid thoughts, while we were walking to the dormitory, and I didn¡¯t want him to have them. Just looking at him now, playing happily in the water, made me feel good. ¡°Hey! Come on! Join me!¡± Roy shouted, and looked at me with a smile. ¡°No, I¡¯m good.¡± I just responded, while walking in the low water. It was reaching to my chest, and pleasantly bounced against me. As I played with the water, that I had in my hands, looking at its reflection, I noticed that the smile on Roy¡¯s face disappeared. He now looked at me, the same way he looked when we were near the university. His eyes were filled with sadness, and he stared at me for some time. ¡°Something happened?¡± I asked, and he smiled briefly. ¡°I really am an idiot, aren¡¯t I?¡± Roy then said, and looked at the sky, while slowly floating on his back. ¡°Yeah, you are.¡± I replied, and heard a little laughter from him. ¡°I saw a girl blushing at me, and I went crazy like some kind of stupid monkey¡¡± as he was saying it, he splashed some water with his hands ¡°But everyone is the same, aren¡¯t they? She was also the same¡ I¡¯m so stupid.¡± ¡°Yeah, you are stupid.¡± I replied, and he once again laughed. ¡°Shouldn¡¯t you be comforting me right now?¡± ¡°Is this what you want?¡± ¡°No¡ It¡¯s not...¡± When he said those words, he slowly started swimming towards me. I looked at him, as he approached me, and when he was two meters before me, he stopped. He wasn¡¯t saying anything, and I didn¡¯t say anything either. I just stared at him, and after a moment, he sighed deeply. ¡°I¡¯m sorry Matthew¡ Sorry that I¡¯m such an idiot.¡± Roy then said, and looked at the surface of the water. He was looking at it, until I splashed his face with it. ¡°H-Hey?! What was that for?!¡± ¡°Dunno¡ Your face was irritating me, so I just did it.¡± as I said those words, once again he looked at me with sadness, and I splashed him once again. ¡°Hey! Stop it!¡± Roy shouted, and this time he splashed me. We might have looked like two idiots, playing with the water, but I didn¡¯t care about it. I just stayed there, and after that we had a little battle. Two children, splashing their faces, while laughing out loud. That would be a good description of what we were doing, and yet I didn¡¯t care, and he didn¡¯t care either. ¡°Hahaha! You are all wet! Just look at yourself, there is a snot coming down from your nose!¡± I looked at Roy, as he started laughing, and pointing at my face. He was happy, and I was happy too, but this happiness of ours couldn¡¯t last forever. He can¡¯t just stay with me, and defend me whenever someone is talking behind my back. I should be the one taking care of myself. ¡°You are not an idiot¡¡± I said quietly, but he heard me clearly ¡°You are not an idiot, and you shouldn¡¯t apologise for things, that you didn¡¯t do... ¡° ¡°What are you talking about? I told you that¡¡± ¡°Can¡¯t you just listen to me?!¡± I shouted, and he looked at me surprised ¡°I don¡¯t want you to pity me. I don¡¯t want you to be my friend, only because you pity me.¡± ¡°What?! Of course it isn¡¯t the reason¡ This is what you think? That I pity you?!¡± he asked, and looked at me with sad eyes. He was disappointed in me, and I knew it. ¡°Come on Matthew, you know that this isn¡¯t the case. I like you, you are a great person, and we¡¡± ¡°We should probably go back to the dormitory¡¡± I interrupted him, and looked him into his eyes ¡°Let¡¯s stop going to the school together. I heard that people are talking about you¡ They call you a dog lover¡¡± ¡°What?! You think I care!? I don¡¯t give a damn, about what they are saying!¡± Roy shouted, while looking at me with anger. ¡°But I do. I should go now¡¡± ¡°Matthew! Stop! What do you think you are saying!? This is what our friendship is to you?! This is what you think?! This is what you truly think?! That I pity you?!¡± ¡°You should swim a little bit longer¡ I don¡¯t want people to see us walking together.¡± I just replied, and went for my clothes. I was still wet, so jumped a few times, to get rid of excess water. After that I grabbed my trousers, and I put them on.
