Prologue: Lets Go
Hello everyone, this is my first time writing a fan fic and I''ll be glad if people tell me constructive criticism. Also just at a side note my name is not John nor is my last name Moto.
John Moto was an new college graduate from some random University of California that was neither ranked one of the best or too low to be recognized, his mother was Japanese and his father was Chinese and he was about 5'' 11 which was quite tall given his nationality. John once asked his father why they named him ¡°John¡± apparently it came from their childhoods days of watching too many T.V. shows, movies and animes that had some character named John in it. Apparently his father just thought it was an awesome name and if someday he had a boy he would name him John and thus that''s how he got his name. His father also told him why his last name was from his mother''s side and not his father''s, and that was because he just thought ¡°Moto¡± sounded more awesome then ¡°Lee¡± though John thought they both sounded just as awesome.
John had just returned home from his college life, and was going to start looking for a job after he took a decent break. As he was unpacking his stuff, his cellphone rang and to his surprise it was one of his old high school buddies.
¡°Whats up Jason, why you call me?¡± (John)
¡°Yo didn''t you hear the new VRMMO game called Fantasy Road is going to be on sale soon!¡± (Jason)
¡°O yea, I totally forgot that it was coming out, and why was this so important you had to call me again?¡± (John)
The reason why John asked this was because normally they chat through some VOIP called SKYPE, and only on some extremely odd or important circumstance did they actually use the phone.
¡°Dude did you forget we were all going to start the game when it came out with David, Jimmy, and Derek?¡± (Jason)
¡°I totally forgot, my bad¡± (John)
¡°You at least ordered the capsule and the game already right?¡± (Jason)
¡°O yea now that you mentioned it I pre-ordered it with you guys like a year ago¡± (John)
¡°Yes you did you idiot, and its coming out tomorrow¡± (Jason)
¡°O Crap really? Dam I got to finish unpacking soon then, cause I heard that capsule was huge¡± (John)
¡°Yea something around a full size bed after assembly¡± (Jason)
¡°Dude I''m going to pack up first man, I''ll go on SKYPE when I''m done¡± (John)
¡°Alright though I think everyone is going to sleep to prepare for tomorrow so you should just unpack and get ready for tomorrow, since no one will be on SKYPE when your done probably¡± (Jason)
¡°Your probably right, I''ll just log on into the game whenever I get the capsule tomorrow. What town did we plan to start in again?¡± (John)
¡°You serious? We planned to start in Tirione since Derek found that city had some of everything around it.¡± (Jason)
¡°Alright I''ll meet you guys in the game tomorrow then? Though how am I suppose to find you guys?¡± (John)
¡°Well I''ll probably be called Einzenberg thought I''m still deciding, David will probably be called DarkMerc and well for Derek and Jimmy they will probably be called ¡ fuck it just wait for someone to find them or they will contact us¡± (Jason)
¡°Well I''ll be called Spiral then, and see you guys in the game¡± (John)
¡°Wait what? Spiral? I could of sworn you would of picked ¡ never mind whatever just contact us, since no one is going to know that other then me¡± (Jason)

John hangs up his phone and then continues to unpack his stuff again. He was finally done unpacking at around 2 am, and he took a shower and quickly went to bed afterward. His alarm sounded at around 11 am and he got up from his bed and got ready for the new VRMMO that he was expecting to arrive soon. He went to the kitchen after he was done getting ready and saw that there was a boil of noodles already made for him, as well as a giant box in the living room. He ate the boil of noodles, and then after cleaning the bowl in the sink he went to start assembling the capsule in his room. Too his surprise the pieces weren''t all that heavy, and were mostly made out of plastic with the exception for the parts that were used to connect his brain to the VR world. Yesterday the reason why John forgot about the game in the first place was because he just graduated from college and had to return home and was preoccupied with unpacking when Jason called him.
The VRMMO Fantasy Road was the first of its kind, it was the crystallization of human brain research, the unending pursuit for a fantasy VR world, and military research to save on real life simulations. Though some say that this technology was being used by militaries for illegal operations, but no one really could argue that it was also one awesome toy that allowed for practically almost anything. The leading AI company Alice hired many fantasy fanatics, to help them create the ultimate AI that would create the game known as Fantasy Road. The AI was said to be able to create so much content that no group of human beings in their lifetime could possibly emulate it. Though the ability for the player to experience more time in the game then in real life was also one of the game''s most appealing features.
Crono the company that created the capsule experimented on rats when they tried to extend time and found that when they tried to extend time greater then 4x the machine they used to interact with the brain goes asynchronous, and the rat just walks away from the test machine. This was known later as the theory of max time, since no one was able to prove that any live being was able to enter the VR world at time greater then 4x. The research of Crono also showed that the brain when connected to the capsule would disconnect itself when it could no longer handle the stress the capsule was putting it under and would become asynchronous to the capsule after a certain period of time. The rat in the test cases seemed to be unable to walk straight and eventually just rests on the spot and falls asleep only to get up after their brain relaxes or wakes up. There was also substantial tests conducted on humans during the alpha stages with their approval, and that resulted in the knowledge that humans also disconnected from the game after a certain period of time depending on their body''s condition, and mental stress. Using this research Alice was able to warn the user when their brain was showing the early signs of mental stress high enough to disconnect them from the game, and would encourage them to log out before they experience one of the worst migraines imaginable. This knowledge was broadcast throughout all forms of media since last year to insure no one didn''t know if they were going to use the capsule.
After John attached the last piece of the capsule together he presses the button that verifies that the capsule was indeed built correctly and ready to be used.

John says to himself ¡°dam this is sorta scary... well here goes nothing.¡± John enters the capsule he just assembled and then presses the switch to start the machine. As he lays down on the foam inside the capsule he sees red, yellow, green and his vision disappears.
Chapter 1:The First Step Taken
John sees black everywhere around him and stares into it as it extends into nothingness.

John now sits and wonders, and asks the voice a question instead.

¡°Alright, then I''ll pick human, with a bit of high elf blood if possible otherwise any magic focused elf would do¡± (John)
¡°... Yes, I can grant you that race, but beware your mixed blood will possibly change how the residences see you¡± (Voice)

Johns see a replicate of him in front of him with short hair, and thinks ¡°so that''s how I look.¡±

John then just appears in front of a fountain and is in awe at how real everything feels. He can hear the sound of water from the fountain, the air hitting his face, and it felt like his body was actually part of this world. The only thought that he had at that moment was that this place was amazing, he soon snapped out of his daze and started to think of what to do next. The first thing he thought of was the first thing all VR novels did, which was looking at his stats.

As John looks at his stats he goes ¡°well it could be worse, at least I still get a bonus to mana control,¡± then he hears a ringing sound that seems to originate directly in his ear. John thinks for a moment, and goes ¡°this has to be the whisper function.¡± He thinks of answering the call and was about to actually say ¡°answer call¡± when the ringing stops and he hears someone''s voice.

¡°I was thinking during the creation process that Eizenberg just didn''t sound right, and for some unknown reason I couldn''t decide on a name, so I thought why not RagingTable?¡± (YamiUsagi)

¡°Yea I was going to go with RagingTable, cause it sounded so awesome but then I thought maybe I should go with a more cute but deadly name instead? John then stops hearing his friend YamiUsagi''s voice, and then tries to add them to his friends list.

John hears a ring again, and thinks of answering the call when the call stops ringing.

John instantly hears two different rings now and wonders how to answer both of them at once and as he tries both rings stop. John then started heading north towards the library once he heard the voice on the other end.

¡°No real reason except I felt that calling myself the name I normally use would be weird if I was going to craft anything in the future, and I thought why not a spiral sounds good enough and spirals are quite awesome¡± (Spiral)

John hangs up the call and then walks towards the huge building with two pillars carved with the image of the sphinx on it. Talk about presence the two pillar felt like they could ward off small animals just from the image. John walks through the large wooden door, and sees a lady in her 40s at the counter, and walks towards her.
¡°Hello how may I help you?¡± (Lady)
¡°I would like to read books on how magic is made and used¡± (Spiral)
¡°Do you have a library card?¡± (Lady)
¡°No...¡± (Spiral)
¡°It costs 10 silver for a library card, and if you want a private area to research in it costs 2 silver per a day¡± (Lady)
¡°I don''t have any silver or copper as of now... it is possible to work here to get a library card?¡± (Spiral)
¡°Let me ask the other staff members first¡± (Lady)
The Lady then walks toward the sea of books and disappears within it. As John watches her leave he just sits on one of the empty chairs located next to the counter and waits. About 3 minutes later John see the Lady walking out of the sea of books, with a male teenager around 20 years old.
¡°He will help you figure out what your suppose to do to earn the 10 silver for your library card, well good luck¡± (Lady smiling at them)
¡°Thank you I will not disappoint your expectations¡± (Spiral bows and follows the teenager)
¡°Well we''re just going to put back the books manually, since the head master isn''t in town¡± (Teenager sighing)
¡°Why are you sighing?¡± (Spiral)
¡°You will see soon enough¡± (Teenager)
Chapter 2:Index
As John followed the teenager through the sea of books, he eventually stopped at a area with multiple pile of books on the floor.
¡°We are here¡± (Teenager)
¡°I see... may I ask what should I call you?¡± (Spiral)
¡°O... I didn''t tell you my name yet, it''s Kite please to meet you¡± (Kite)
¡°Hello Kite my name is Spiral¡± (Spiral)
¡°First off Spiral do you know of the Index skill?¡± (Kite)
¡°Whats that?¡± (Spiral)
¡°I expected as much... It''s a skill all librarians require, since it would be impossible to find anything in this library without it¡± (Kite)
¡°I see, so is it possible for me to learn it?¡± (Spiral)
¡°Yes, though since the head master isn''t here you going to have to have to manually learn it...¡± (Kite)
Spiral didn''t know but the head master was able to grant any librarian the Index skill, but no player in their right mind would want to manually obtain the skill since it had almost no worth. This was because a player could just ask the librarians in the Library to find them any specific book without them needing to actually search themselves, as no player was even allowed to search throughout the library for books themselves in the first place.
¡°Follow me¡± (Kite)
Spiral follows Kite even deeper into the sea of trees, and eventually they stop next to a gigantic book that seems to be glowing. Kite had never seen such a gigantic book in his life, while he stared in wonder at the gigantic book he also wondered how was he even going to read it. Kite then signals Spiral to try and read the book, and so Spiral places his hand on the cover and to his surprise it was far lighter then he expected. He lifts the cover and watches as the characters on the front page shifts and turns until they looked like English, and to his surprise it simply read ¡°The Index.¡±
¡°The book is amazing right? I thought so too when I first arrived as well, but I didn''t need to learn the Index skill manually though since the head master just granted me the skill¡± (Kite)
¡°So how am I suppose to learn the Index skill through this book?¡± (Spiral)
¡°I was told by the head master that if someone just keeps reading that gigantic book and attempts to memorize the information inside they will eventually learn the Index skill¡± (Kite)
¡°I see... Alright here goes nothing!¡± (Spiral)
¡°Well while you learn the skill I''ll be putting back the books on the shelves, just call if you have any questions. You don''t need to yell since I''ll hear you through the echoing, since it''s basically just us here at this location¡± (Kite)
¡°Thanks¡± (Spiral)
Kites then walks back from where they came, and Spiral begins to read through the index in from of him. The first few pages mentioned that the books in the library are marked with magic to help locate and sort them. The next few pages mentioned that the magic applied to the books also acted as an anti-theft system, since the magic was unique to the library. Though it mentioned that the magic doesn''t actually prevent the books from leaving the library, as was why books still could be stolen. This was also why no player was allowed to enter the more rare sections of the library in the first place, but Spiral was granted access to this area by Kite to learn the Index skill.
He then continues to read how the books were organized, and it told of a system where the Index would mark certain areas of the library for were certain subjects of books would be stored. It continues mentioning how subdivisions with subjects were organized in the area, and how the Index would change the placement of books within the area depending on what gets checked out the most. Lastly before it starts mentioning what books are where in the library it talks about how the books are first checked out to the librarian that removed the books, so that if the books could not be found by the Index the last known librarian that saw it was the best bet for locating the book. Then the Index begins the mentioning the books within the subject of General Information in the Library and where they could be found.
After reading through thousands of titles for General Information he found that he was very hungry as his stomach was growling, so he tried to open his inventory for the bread he knew every player started with by saying inventory. He saw a floating box with icons showing the ten loafs of rye bread everyone was given, as well as the flask of water. When Spiral tried to select the loaf of bread he saw something underneath the item icon, and it read ¡°Can Not Decay.¡± Spiral then withdrew a loaf of bread and the flask of water and began consuming the food before him. He though the bread tasted terribly bland, but the problem was Spiral was not a picky eater so the taste didn''t bother him at all.
When he finished the food before him and stored back the water flask, he heard the sounds of footsteps walking towards him. He then saw the figure appear out of the direction he was staring, and as he saw the figure he let out a sigh of relief. This was because he didn''t know what to say to the person if it wasn''t either the Lady or Kite.
¡°It''s night time, do you want to stay here or go to a Inn?¡± (Kite)
¡°I don''t have any coins to stay at the Inn...¡± (Spiral)
¡°I forgot... well did you want to rest or continue reading the Index, as the library is already closed¡± (Kite)
¡°I''m quite tired, so I''ll take you up on the offer¡± (Spiral smiles)
¡°Alright follow me¡± (Kite)
Spiral begins following Kite throughout the maze of books, and ends up at a location that looks like a dormitory. Kite then beginning to explain something to him while they walked, since he noticed Spiral was confused at how there was a dormitory inside the library.
¡°Normally adventurers such as yourselves never gets to stay in the library dormitories, since only librarians are allowed inside. I assume you adventurers think we live in caves or something, since your kind seem to see us only disappear and reappear... ¡° (Kite)
¡°Yes I never actually wondered where you librarians lived, I thought you guys lived in a house somewhere around the area.¡± (Spiral)
¡°Well some of us do, and some of us don''t since we don''t either want to or can afford to. Anyways you will be staying in the guest room, as it hasn''t been used in sometime. Breakfast is served at sunrise so if you want to eat something in the dinning quarters you should arrive on time. As a temporary librarian you don''t need to pay to eat there like every other librarian, now I''ll be going to my room now. You will stay in this guest room until your task is done if you wish to stay in the Library, I will wake you up at sunrise since I doubt you will be able to get back to the Index.¡± (Kite)
¡°Can I ask you how your able to navigate throughout this maze like Library?¡± (Spiral)
¡°I didn''t explain that yet did I, well once the Index skill gets past a certain level you will be able to have it guide you to where ever in the library you wish to go. Though you still won''t be able to access areas that you aren''t permitted to¡± (Kite)
¡°I see well I''ll get some rest and meet you tomorrow morning¡± (Spiral)
¡°Yes goodnight¡± (Kite)
Spiral watches as Kite leaves, and then enters the guest room he has been assigned. He sees that the room was quite dusty as there hasn''t been a library guest for sometime now. He then lies down on the bed and tries to logout by saying ¡°logout¡±, and the moment he does he is struck with a headache. Awhile after he logged out, he thought to himself ¡°so this is that headache they talked about... If it hurt this bad after a few hours how strong is the headache when your forced out of the game?¡± He then got out of the capsule and then looked at the time, and it showed that it was around 3 pm which was mind blowing since it felt like he was in the game all day already. He then began to stretch since lying in the capsule for 3 hours caused his body to feel quite stiff. He walks around the house and then used the bathroom, afterward he decides to take a 1 ? hour nap since his headache hadn''t completely gone away.
John then wakes up from the alarm he set for 1 ? hour and does some stretching before going back inside the capsule. He presses the start button and then sees red, yellow, then green as his vision quickly darkens. Spiral was now in the room he logged off in, and since his room had a window he saw the it was still dark outside. He then sat up and starting to think of what he could do till Kite would come and lead him to the dinning quarters, since he didn''t want to accidentally get lost. He expected to have around 1 hour before Kite would arrive, and since being in a dark room with nothing else to do other then to sleep or day dream he decided to meditate instead. John wasn''t a master class martial artist nor was he an amateur, he could defend himself against most unarmed assaults if it was directed at him. He sat there meditating for about 30 minutes and no matter what he did he could feel that inside him there was something there that he had never felt before. He then remembered a episode on dragon ball Z where Gohan explained how to draw out your inner energy, as he tried it expecting absolutely nothing for about 20 minutes he heard a knock on the door. He then stops his meditation on trying to draw out whatever he felt that was different in his body, and answers the door.

¡°Good Morning to you as well, let us head to the dinning quarters¡± (Kite)
Spiral then follows Kite through the dormitory and headed to the area known as the dinning quarters. As they approached the area he could smell something close to baked bread coming from the turn ahead, and was quite giggly inside for being able to eat something that wasn''t the rye bread in his inventory. As they turned into the dinning quarters Spiral was quite amazed at what he saw, this was neither due to the food or room but due to the amount of people actually there. Somehow Kite was able to predict what Spiral was thinking since he went and answered a question Spiral would have thought was too impolite to ask.
¡°You thought there would be around only 4 people here didn''t you? Well sad to tell you this but it takes more then 4 people to actually manage a library of this size you know?¡± (Kite smiling)
¡°Your right why did I even think I there would be around 4 people sitting here only...¡± (Spiral reflecting)
¡°Well lets take a seat there and you can eat whatever you want, since you are a temporary librarian¡± (Kite)

Spiral follows kite to the table where they would be eating, as Spiral was sitting down he looked around one more time and saw at least 50 people in the room other then them. He was still sort of shocked that there was so much people in this dinning quarters, he then proceeds to eat the bread, butter, and milk before him. It was quite the treat in his eyes, since the milk was more delicious then he remembered it to be, and the bread and butter was better then any he ever ate before. He then sees a screen pop up before him and stares in wonder at it.

Spiral didn''t know that it was possible to receive buffs from food as the only meal he ate so far in game was the rye bread in his inventory. He didn''t know but the Librarian''s Breakfast full was as good as it gets when compared to the food buffs obtained from the restaurants in the city. Once he finished his meal he noticed that Kite was also finished with his meal, and Kite was looking at him as if he wanted to say something.
¡°We should start work soon, since it''s probably going to take awhile till you actually learn the Index skill¡± (Kite)
¡°Alright, lead the way¡± (Spiral)
They both stand up and leaves the dinning quarters, and head towards back to the section of the library where the Index was located. They arrive at the Index and Spiral walks towards the Index and continues reading the absurdly long list of books and where they were located. This went on for 1 month in game, and so Spiral logged in and out of the game every night for what seemed like his new daily routine. He ate his meals dependent on when it turned to night in the game, and rested only as much as the night in the game allowed. He didn''t only use the bathroom, nap, eat, and sleep during the nights in real life, he also exercised once every 4 game nights since he knew that it would be far more beneficial to his health. He also meditated when he thought it would be more beneficial then napping.
He had many whispers from YamiUsagi, Kira, YOLOSWAG, DarkMerc saying how they already out leveled him to the point where it was going to be very hard for him to catch up. They all wanted to tell him their adventurers during the last month, but since reading the Index took far too much concentration he opted to not hear them at all. It was getting to the point where he couldn''t think about anything other then locations of books, and everything was getting very very hazy. Once he read the last line in the Index he heard a ding sound emitting from the inside of his mind. Spiral wasn''t sure what that ding sound was, since he had never heard it before and was still in a daze. After awhile he notices that he had actually finish reading the Index, and that the ding was actually the game telling him that he had acquired the Index skill finally. He let out a weak sounding voice.

He was quite baffled as he didn''t expect to see the skill starting at mastered, he hoped the skill wouldn''t start at beginner since he put so much effort into reading the Index but for it to start at mastered felt weird to him. He then felt a sense of loss, since he had being doing nothing but trying to finish reading the Index for the past month in game. Something to note was that Spiral was actually quite a fast reader, and was able to remember most information he had read in books. For some reason the information in his mind about which books were kept where kept changing in his mind. He had never felt this way before since it felt like the books were part of his body, this was a whole new experience to him. He then finally came to his senses and saw a old man staring at him.
The first thing Spiral thought after looking at him was who is he, and how did I get to the Index this past few weeks? Some reason Spiral couldn''t recall how he got from the dormitory to the Index after the first 3 meals with Kite. He started to wonder what happened to Kite, but before he could ask the question the old man begun to talk.
¡°Hello Spiral I am Magnus the head master of this library, and I have been watching you for the past week since I have returned¡± (Magnus)
¡°O Hello, where are my manners I am Spiral a temporary librarian sir¡± (Spiral)
¡°Yes I heard from Kite that you are an adventurer that wanted a library card and asked to work here as payment for the card¡± (Magnus)
¡°Yes sir, I wanted a library card, but had no coins to purchase one, so I asked to work here as payment¡± (Spiral)
¡°I want to ask you something Spiral do you recall anything from the past week?¡± (Magnus)
¡°No sir, I can''t seem to remember anything but reading the Index and my basic routines¡± (Spiral)
¡°I would guess so, since I have been calling you for a week now.¡± (Magnus sighs)
¡°I''m sorry sir if I have offended you in anyway¡± (Spiral nervous)
¡°No you have not Spiral, I just wondered what the person that was willing to read through the entire Index was like¡± (Magnus)
¡°I''m not sure how I am suppose to answer that, I wanted to get a library card and needed the Index skill so I read the Index to get the skill...¡± (Spiral)
¡°Yes, but to get the index skill you didn''t actually have to read the entire index, more like reading that book past the first few hundred pages should have given you the skill¡± (Magnus)
¡°Wait what?! I didn''t know that, since Kite said only that I needed to read the Index to learn the skill. I kept reading and reading but never got the skill until I finished the entire book...¡± (Spiral)
¡°The moment you actually wanted to stop reading you should have gotten the skill, which was why when you finished the book you finally obtained the skill¡± (Magnus)
¡°I see... I didn''t know that so did I waste this entire month?¡± (Spiral)
¡°Not quite, since I haven''t actually seen a person actually read that thing completely without showing any signs of giving up¡± (Magnus laughs)
¡°I see... so I guess I should probably start earning my keep for the library card.¡± (Spiral)
¡°Well if you were one of those other adventurers that asked to work here after I returned, then that would be the case but in your case it is quite different¡± (Magnus)
¡°What should I do then sir?¡± (Spiral)
¡°I want to grant you a class that hasn''t been granted to anyone, since the founding of this library¡± (Magnus)
Spiral started to sweet as he didn''t expect that reading a giant book on books would actually give him any other class then something to do with being a librarian. He didn''t know what this class was, but he knew that if he refused this he probably be unable to set foot in the library ever again. This would have made his entire month of reading the Index a waste of time. It was either get stuck with a class that had nothing to do anything other then books or never be able to read the books he tried so hard to be able to read. He strengthened his will and answered Magnus.
¡°I will take the class sir, it will be my honor to take a class that has been lost for so long¡± (Spiral)
¡°Good, Your class shall now be the researcher. You are granted the highest access possible within the library I hope for your future success. If you have any questions you may find me in my quarters, since as a fellow researcher we are very busy.¡± (Magnus leaves smiling)
Spiral then thought to himself ¡°alright so what in the world did I just acquire¡±?
Chapter 3:Mana Anaylsis
As Spiral watches Magnus walk into the sea of trees, he starts to come to grip with what had transpired in the past month. He spent a whole month in game to get a library card when his friends had tried to send him coins to just buy the library card. If Spiral''s memories were correct his friends had sent him at least 1 gold in total to try and convince him to buy the library card, and start what he wanted to do at the library. This was because what Spiral was doing wasn''t even a quest, and had no repercussions.
The reason why the task he was given wasn''t a quest in the first place was because the head master wasn''t in the library to grant him the Index skill. The lady that had given him the task expected him to quit when he had saw the Index, since it would have been far easier to just earn 10 silver outside. When the librarians saw that Spiral was going to actually learn the Index skill manually by reading a book that had no benefits to him they were actually quite shocked. Though after awhile the librarians just saw him reading the Index as a common occurrence. His friends had also stopped trying to convince him to stop reading the Index, since they noticed that it was rather pointless. When he finally snapped out of the trace he saw the head master in front of him offering him a unknown class. Now that Spiral finally came to grips with what had happened so far, he opens his status to see what changed.

Spiral was quite happy when he saw his status, since he didn''t expect a Researcher would be such a great class. He was able to basically learn anything related to anything as long as information was written on it, and probably almost everything was written somewhere in this fantasy world. He was also granted access anywhere within this library, and had the ability to locate any book he wished as well. This screamed over powered in his head as long as he kept reading, and his intelligence and wisdom had increased considerably. The reason why the Index didn''t improve greatly improve his intelligence stat was because titles, descriptions and locations could only grant so much information. While all the information written in the Index taught him what books the library had, even lost books were written within the information of the Index. Knowing every book allowed him to make far more informed decisions on what books he should look for when he searched for anything within the library giving his character the great increase in wisdom.
Now that he didn''t have to read the Index, and was given access anywhere within the Library he could begin his research into magic. He tried to remember all the books that had a description or title relevant to how to use magic, and he knew instinctively where they were. The problem was that there were actually too many titles, since almost all magic books mentioned how to used magic. He then narrowed down his search to any book that had something relevant to magic theories, since they would probably be where he should start if he wanted to use magic in it''s purest sense. The query told him that about 200 books were written that had a title or description that matched what he considered magic theory. He was going to start searching for the first title, but finally noticed that he was hungry. He was thinking should he just eat his rye bread, but wondered if he could still eat at the dormitory¡¯s dinning quarters. As he thought about eating at the dinning quarters, instantly his mind gave him a map to arrive at the dinning quarters. He thought about maybe getting the coins that his friends gave him before going to the dinning quarters, but he had a feeling his class researcher would probably give him free food at the dinning quarters.
Spiral arrived at the dinning quarters and saw one of the cooking staff sitting there with some left over bread on one of the tables. It was actually a little after evening and all the Library staff members had already ate lunch and finish cleaning up the area. The bread was the left overs from lunch and the rest of the cooking staff had went out to prepare food for dinner. The staff member sitting on one of the desks was still there to finish up cleaning. When the staff member noticed Spiral she greeted him, since every staff member at this point knew of the adventurer that was reading the Index thoroughly.
¡°Hello are you by any chance hungry?¡± (Staff smiles)
¡°Yes, I just finished the Index and noticed that I was hungry so I came to see if I could eat something¡± (Spiral hesitant)
¡°Sure, I''ll get you some of the leftover soup just sit at the table with the bread on it¡± (Staff smiles and walks into the kitchen)
Spiral does as he was told and sit on the table with the bread and wait for the staff member to return with soup. He waits there for about a minute when the staff member returns with a bowl of soup in her hand. She puts the bowl of soup on the table on sits across Spiral and tries to start a conversation.
¡°May I call you Spiral?¡± (Staff)
¡°Sure, but how do you know my name?¡± (Spiral)
¡°Well everyone in the Library knows of the adventurer trying to learn the Index skill through reading the Index, since you have reading for about 1 month now¡± (Staff)
¡°I see, well may I have the pleasure of knowing your name?¡± (Spiral smiles)
¡°You may, my name is Tracy¡± (Tracy)
¡°Hello Tracy, I''m no longer a temporary librarian and don''t have any coins on me am I still able to eat in this dinning area for free?¡± (Spiral hesitant)
¡°You didn''t know? The head master has told us you are now a researcher so you get your very own room inside the dormitory, and get to eat here whenever you want¡± (Tracy smiles)
¡°I didn''t know that, thanks for telling me¡± (Spiral)
¡°So may I ask you why did you start reading the Index? Since there were many different theories about why you were reading it. The most widespread rumor was that you bet someone that you would go bold if you didn''t finish the Index.¡± (Tracy)
¡°Wait what? How did that rumor appear?¡± (Spiral)
¡°I guess it was because of your interesting hair style¡± (Tracy laughs)
Spiral begins to tell her the story of how he came to the Library to get a library card, but had no coins on him at the time and asked to work here for the payment. Then how he meet Kite and started reading the Index for the skill, and eventually lost track of time.
¡°Well that was anti-climatic, you weren''t trying to find a book that was about slaying some mystical dragon, or trying to find out some lost book that leads you to a lost noble title, or my personal favorite some secret book that allows you to change your hair style on a whim¡± (Tracy smiles)
¡°Why always the hair?¡± (Spiral)
¡°It was probably because your hair style was eye catching, and the staff had nothing to go by except your worn down cloths and eye catching hair style¡± (Tracy)
¡°I see, that makes sense I should probably get a change of clothes after this¡± (Spiral)
¡°You probably should but I thought you had no coins?¡± (Tracy)
¡°Well my friends set me probably around 1 gold or more awhile back, but I never had the chance to get it¡± (Spiral)
¡°I see, but I would think the head master would have given you a set of clothes.¡± (Tracy)
¡°Really? I should go see him and ask could he give me a set of clothes then.¡± (Spiral)
¡°Yes, but I would suggest you see your new room first since it was the head master himself that assigned it. It might be possible that he already put your new set of clothes in there¡± (Tracy)
¡°That makes sense I should probably check out my room first then, thanks for the advice¡± (Spiral)
¡°Your welcome, since you finished your meal you should probably start your tasks at hand, since I think you''ll probably become as busy as the head master very soon¡± (Tracy smiles and leaves the table)

Spiral watches as Tracy enters the kitchen, and then begins to try and use Index to locate his room. In an instant the map to his room appeared in his mind, and he got up and began walking towards him new room. He went through the dormitory hall, and up a few stairs and through a heavy door until he saw a room that had the plate ¡°Spiral¡± hanging outside. He put his hand on the handle of the door and at that moment he felt as if something was scanning him.
Spiral guessed that it was some sort of magic the Library used to prevent unauthorized access and walked inside. He then saw a set of clothes that was neatly folded and placed on top of a king sized bed in the middle of the room with a note placed on top. Spiral walked towards the note and it read ¡°Congratulations on becoming a researcher, I hope this set of clothes will help you towards your goals, from Magnus.¡± Spiral smiled and began unequipping his old clothes. It took him awhile to figure out how to actually unequip his old clothes, since when he tried to take them off like he did in real life he would get a message that said ¡°invalid unequipping method.¡± He eventually just tried to equip his new clothes by hold them up and saying ¡°equip¡± in which they appeared on him one by one. He walked to the mirror inside the room and started laughing as he saw his reflection, he was wearing a white tail jacket with silver linings, a black cloak held together by a silver chain near his collar bone and a pair of white pants with silver lining. He felt like he was cosplaying a white supreme king version of Judai in cloth form if it existed. It took awhile for him to calm down, once he calmed down he called his equipment screen since he hadn''t seen what the stats of his new gear had.

Spiral was smiling while reading the description of his new equipment, but he noticed that his clothes had almost no defense. He definitely wasn''t going to tank anything very soon with his new equipment, and everything was hinting towards using magic to defeat his enemies. He had a increase in vigor to research the subject that brought him to the Library in the first place, not that it was low in the first place. He then begun to open his status window to see how much stronger he actually became.

Spiral thought to himself he was now the greatest level 1 that existed in game, but then after thought who would stay level one in the first place and sighs. His stats was now that of a level 44 player without any equipment, which was actually very high but Spiral didn''t know that. He began to try and calm himself down from smiling about his new increase in stats, and once he was calmer he began restarting the search for magic theory books inside the Library. The moment he located the first book and willed himself to go and get it a message popped up in front of him along with the book he was going to get.

Spiral started to remember Kite saying something about the head master being out and having to manually return the books in the pile when he saw the update on the Index skill. Spiral thought to himself so that was what Kite meant, when he finish recalling the event. The reason for the piles of books in the area Spiral originally saw was because it was the arena where the head master would use his Index skill to sort them back into the Library. The area was used when a book that was rarely checked out and probably wouldn''t be needed for awhile was placed. The head master was normally very busy so that area was cleared by him only once in awhile when he had the time to spare. Since the head master was out for a month prior to Spiral''s arrival at the Library, the staff thought it might be better to try and manually sort them incase someone actually requested a book in the pile with the head master out.
With the book he was going to look for in his hands and the ability to get and return any book within the library he was ready to start his research into magic. He went and sat at the large table inside his room, and begun reading the first book he got on magic theory. Spiral sat at his studies for around a week, and basically repeated what he did when he read the Index. The only difference was that he was less dazed and chatted with Tracy and Kite in the dinning quarters.
After a week in game he managed to finish all the books on magic theory, and learned a lot of things but nothing on what he wanted. He didn''t generate any skill which was weird because he thought even without the researcher class there should have been a skill generated from learning all that he did. He was even more frustrated since he was the class that learned skills from the research of others. The only thing he learned from all the reading was about the religions of Fantasy Road and how little people understood what was magic in this world. The residences of this world could cast spells that could devastate their enemies, but had very little information as to what magic was. The only magic theory that came close to what he was looking for was how magic was a source within the user and extracted outwards to generate an effect. Spiral didn''t believe a lot of the stories about the origin of magic due to the Gods of the world, since he was a residence of the real world and knew that this world''s true God was the AI created by Alice. If anything the creation of this world revolved around Alice and what it did, which was what Spiral was trying to deduce. Spiral decided to try and write his own theory that would make sense to him, but cursed himself for not having the materials to do so. He then remembered that Magnus was in the Library and he would probably have what he was looking for so he set off to find him.
Spiral used the Index skill to locate where Magnus was and begun his walk towards Magnus''s quarters. To Spiral''s surprise it wasn''t located far from him at all, Magnus''s quarters was basically across the hall from his own. The reason for this was because the floor he was on was meant for the administrators of the Library. Magnus was a researcher and had not given the class to anyone else since the establishment of the Library, and when he gave the class to Spiral he was automatically promoted to an administrator. Spiral stopped in front of the door leading to Magnus''s quarter and knocked. He waited awhile until he heard Magnus open the door, when he saw Spiral he smiled to greet him.
¡°Hello Spiral what brings you to my quarters?¡± (Magnus)
¡°I was wondering do you have the materials for me to write my own book that I could borrow?¡± (Spiral)
The moment he heard what Spiral had asked him Magnus was a little shocked, since he didn''t expect Spiral to try and publish anything for awhile. Magnus had what Spiral was looking for and had planned to give him it, but wondered what he was going to publish.
¡°May I ask what are you trying to publish?¡± (Magnus)
¡°What do you mean by publish?¡± (Spiral)
Magnus was confused by how Spiral answered his question with a question.
¡°I mean by writing a book, and spreading it throughout the land¡± (Magnus)
¡°I see, I have no intention of spreading the book I was going to write, but you may read it if you want after I''m done. I believe what I''m going to write might generate more infamy then fame if spread due to the content.¡± (Spiral)
¡°I''m very curious now, what might possible generate such high infamy from what your trying to write¡± (Magnus)
¡°I''m trying to write a different version of what magic really is in this world, and I have a feeling the moment the churches in this world reads it they will be after my head...¡± (Spiral)

The moment Spiral sees the map he knew exactly where Magnus was pointing to, which was basically one floor down in a storage room. Spiral thanks Magnus and promises he will show him the finish work when it was done, and heads toward the storage room. Spiral had no problems finding what he was looking for inside the storage room, and put what he needed into his inventory and went back to his room. When he returned to his room he took out all the materials he took from the storage room and place them on the table.
Spiral then began to try and create his own hypothesis for magic, since everything he read on magic theory generated more questions then it answered. He began to use the information he had from the real world and began trying to integrate magic into theories they had in real life.
He thought if Fantasy Road was created by an AI that knew the laws of physics and thermodynamics then his hypothesis might actually be more relevant then all the speculations he read as theories. He began writing about how magic followed the same laws of thermodynamics, except that instead of actual entropy it was something like magic entropy. That Fantasy Road used the same principles of the real world and added the term he coined as magic entropy which was parallel in meaning to entropy. That the world didn''t begin with the world tree Yggdrasil, but instead it began from the AI Alice used to spawn the world tree. He began writing how the users of magic was basically analogous to a system that processed this magic entropy and by having higher intelligence or by using magic enhancing items they would increase the efficiency of the system known as the user. This would account for why there was an difference in strength of the same magic cast by two different magician with different stats.
This was also why he wrote it should be theoretically possible for any spell to go beyond the user''s own capacity if they try putting more energy into the system then needed, but controlling such an output would depend purely on the user. It was obviously not very safe for a magician to try and use this method to strengthen their skills, but from what he had read during his research on magic theory some have actually tried. They explain it as the phenomena when magic becomes unstable due to the user''s inexperience when trying to put more magic into their spell then they could handle. The output of successful cases had increased effectiveness, but was deemed unsuitable to the common magician due to the high chance of self destruction. Spiral obviously didn''t fully agree with their theories or hypotheses on magic, but since he couldn''t actually disprove their claims he just wrote his own.
He then began writing about how the wisdom stat was where the system draws the form of energy it was suppose to process or mana in this case. The process of casting a spell, was basically the formation of a specific system that world translate mana into something else. That would mean that mana must have a higher potential then the spell being cast by the magician if the laws of thermodynamics were to be true for magic. He hypothesized that the more mana a spell cost the more work it must have required to change it''s form, and that the more closer the spell was to mana the less work it would require to change it''s form. This would mean that the AI Alice used to create the game either incorporated heat death or just ignored it either way it truly didn''t matter, since he wasn''t going to experience it anytime soon. When he finally wrote down everything he wanted to about magic into the book he wrote on the cover ¡°Mana Theory by Spiral.¡± The moment he finished authoring the book he saw a window appear before him.

Once Spiral finished reading the description of his new skill he was temped to try it, but the only problem was that he hadn''t learned a spell that cost any mana. The only other skill he knew was the Index skill, which only cost mana when he tried to return a book to the library. This was a serious problem when he wanted try out his new skill, so he began researching about the most basic fire skill, Fireball. After reading a book on how novice magicians invoked Fireball he heard the signature ding sound. Spiral then tried to check only his new skill.

Spiral noticed that his fireball had a limit placed on its maximum proficiency due to probably his class. Spiral ignored this fact for now, since he just wanted to try out the effect of Mana Analysis. He noticed that it was already night inside the game and that it was probably not very wise for him to test out his new skill at night, so he just logged off on his bed and waited for sunrise.
Chapter 4:Fireball
John got out of the capsule and the fatigue from working his body to the limit finally hit him. He then quickly took a shower, and went to sleep right afterward. When he woke up the next morning he washed up, then went to the kitchen and made himself breakfast. It was a simple meal with toast, eggs, and two sausages. When he finished his meal and washed his dishes, he began preparing to log back into Fantasy Road. He then proceeds to enter his capsule, and pressed the start button.
Spiral stood up and looked out his window and saw that the sun was already up, so he quickly took his book and went towards Magnus''s room. Spiral knocked the door a few times, and after standing there about a minute he tried using the Index skill to see if Magnus was actually in his room. When he did find was that Magnus was currently not inside his room, nor was he in the library.
Spiral went back to his room and put his book away and took off his researcher gear, and then proceeded to wear back his starting gear. The reason why he did this was because he didn''t want to stand out, and because he didn''t want to accidentally lose his gear with what he was about to do. After Spiral finished changing and put away his researcher gear in his room he left towards the fields outside.
Spiral knew how to get back to the square where he started, and from there he proceeded to ask random strangers where to go to get outside the city walls. Eventually after asking one resident and one adventurer he reached outside the city walls.
When Spiral looked outside the walls he saw adventurers trying to kill what seemed to be rabbits with horns. He looked around for any mages, since he had yet to see how others casted spells. Eventually after wandering around the area he saw a group of adventurers with decent gear fighting what seemed to be a fox. There was one person that stood out with the signature wizard robe, and he saw that he used what he considered to be thunderbolt.
Spiral followed the group and noticed that the man sometimes said the spell and sometimes just casted the spell without saying anything. Since Spiral didn''t want to be seen as a suspicious individual to the group that was looking his way a few times, he walked away as any spectator would once he noticed he wasn''t welcomed.
Spiral went back toward the field of rabbits, and began trying to cast a fireball at the ground. He first attempted to use the spell by saying the name out loud.

The moment he said the spell''s name out loud his mana analysis instinctively took over, and he knew that something inside of him was gathering on the outside of his left hand. He could see some sort of symbol that was located where his mana was gathering, but couldn''t make it out. He assumed that the reason he couldn''t see what seemed to be a rune clearly was due to his level in mana analysis, since it was the skill that allowed him to see whatever it was.
The moment the rune brightened he felt as if he could fire whatever was there, as if he had notched an arrow on a bow. He aimed his left land at ground further away and tried to fire it by releasing whatever it was that he felt was notched. The moment he released it he saw a fireball lobed its way towards where he aimed his left hand. It wasn''t the most fastest fireball if anything it was quite slow, and as it hit the ground it created a boom sound and the spot where the fireball landed was scorched.
Spiral then tried to cast the fireball by trying to emulate what he felt when he said the spell aloud. He stood there for about 10 minutes trying to emulate what he felt originally when he casted the spell, but nothing happened. Spiral didn''t think it mattered that he couldn''t cast the spell currently without saying it out loud at the moment, since it was probably something he would get to eventually. If his guess was right, the mage he saw casting thunderbolt without chanting was able to do so, due to something close to muscle memory.
Spiral didn''t think that casting a spell with muscle memory was bad, but he expected that it was also possible to invoke the rune he saw that was absorbing his mana to cast the spell as well.
Either way it didn''t matter to him currently since both were just his hypotheses.
He then casted fireball again, but this time when he felt the spell was notched he began to pull an invisible string with his mind as hard as possible. A problem occurred when he could no longer handle the mental strain and the fireball flew outside his left palm towards whatever it was pointed to at the distance, which was luckily a tree since he was scared he might have killed someone on accident. The fireball flew at the tree as if was an arrow fired at max speed, and the moment of impact a loud boom sound could be heard and a large hole in the trunk was created with bark flying due to the blast.
Spiral could tell that the second fireball was definitely stronger then the first one, and from what he could measure from his mana bar their mana cost was basically the same. He then tired something different, since it didn''t make sense to rapidly fire fireballs at an enemy using either the lobbing fireball due to it''s terrible speed or the maximum drawn fireball due to the strain and time it took.
Spiral then imagined that a gun was loaded instead of a arrow being notched when he casted the fireball skill again. He then proceeded to pull the trigger, and this time the fireball didn''t move as fast as the second try but a lot faster then the first try. It moved as fast as one would expect a fireball would travel, which was probably the feeling most mages used to cast their spells.
Now that Spiral knew how to fire a fireball, he went trigger happy firing at the tree in the background. After about 20 more fireballs at the tree which felt great using the gun as the method of choice, he noticed that it took at minimum 3 seconds for him to fully charge a fireball. The tree that took the fireballs after the 20thshot basically fell over towards the plains due to the damage the trunk took from the constant barrage. Since he shot the trunk the tree didn''t actually catch fire from the barrage, but it was actually very hard to start a forest fire due to the nature of Fantasy Road. The gods of nature that existed in Fantasy Road prevented forest fires, since they didn''t want their forest burnt down.
Spiral''s mana pool was at around 10% when he stopped firing, and it would take him about half an hour to recharge his mana pool. Spiral looked at his mana and knew it was still enough to start his real objective, which was to test out the passive of mana analysis.
Spiral began by casting and loading the fireball skill, and from there he began to try and force more mana into the rune that was located near his left palm. He pointed at another tree in the background, but as he forced more mana into his palm without restraint and due to his lack of practice he wasn''t able to limit the amount of mana his body was sending to his left hand. It was as if his mana pool short circuited and all his mana went straight into the symbol, and then a huge explosion could be heard a mile away.
Beginners were confused when the large explosion could be heard, since they thought that there shouldn''t a high level adventurer anywhere near the beginning field that could make such a sound. Though some went to check the area where the sound came from, all they could find was a tree that was some reason cut down, and a scorched area in the middle of the field.
Spiral was of course dead, and nothing was dropped since he had nothing on him but his rye bread and water container. Spiral didn''t actually know how much damage he took from the explosion, but it had to have been more then 215 damage which was all his life without his researcher gear.
John stepped out of his capsule, and thought to himself that what happened doesn''t add up. He didn''t think 3 ? fireball worth of mana did the amount of damage it did to him. The only assumption he could think of was that he literally short circuited the system that produced the fireball, and with the system shorting it released a huge explosion that was basically a different skill in it''s own right. This explosion he predicted was probably enough damage to probably kill him many times over, and he expected that he would probably never live through this unless he had almost no excess mana. He found out first hand why the few reports on mana overloading explained it to be very dangerous, and why they recommended a great amount of supervision over the caster if they wanted him to survive.
John now had to wait a full day in real life before he could log back into the game, and he would have lost a level but since he was level 1 he couldn''t actually go lower. The game didn''t actually penalize skill progression, since they didn''t want players to actually have to regrind them if some reason they died so many times and went back to level 1. John was now thinking what he should do once he got back into the game, since he needed a clear plan on how to tackle mana overloading.

John knew that when trying to overload a spell he instinctively sent mana to the blurry symbol that was in front of his left hand. He also knew that the system that was used to generate the fireball skill couldn''t take 3 ? it''s mana cost. It also mattered that he currently didn''t have enough control over his mana to attempt to limit how much mana was actually sent to the unknown symbol.
He thought awhile and then came up with a few possible plans of action he could take to try and improve his situation. First he could in reality just use up enough mana to reach his desired mana count and a few deaths to find out the upper limit of the system. He pondered the thought of the suicides required for a skill that would be probably worthless in any actual combat situation. He could do it for the sake of research, but his time was probably worth spent elsewhere.
Second he could try and figure out what the blurry symbol representing the system was. He suspected it was a sigil, since symbols representing magic were essentially sigils. He could do this by leveling up the mana analysis skill, and his only clue was mana overloading which required him to blow himself up an absurd amont of times. This was clearly not a realistic option since every death was very time consuming and his first option would clearly be better then this.
He had another possible route which was to study magic symbols in Fantasy Road, which would probably take a huge amount of time, but would require no deaths till he had enough knowledge on the subject to start new experiments. This was a far better option then the two other ends were he would continuously blow up for the sake of research. He also had a third option which was to abandon mana overloading and just research more into other subjects he required to start what he wanted to do in Fantasy Road.
He ponders his options and knew that the studying of sigils would be a subject he would eventually have to research into anyways to accomplish his original goal. With his new destination set and mind now set on the new horizons of sigil mastery, he did some exercises, checked his e-mails, and ate his meals and slept then logged back into the game the next day.
Spiral woke up and saw the fountain he first saw when he arrived in Fantasy Road. He began to examine his clothes, which were pretty much beyond repair and looked like the remains of some rag, if anything it made no sense how his starting equipment still held at all after that explosion. He then spoke out the command to view his equipment screen.

Spiral was pretty much standing in the middle of the spawn location looking like a idiot, from the view of others around him. Spiral noticed that everyone was steering clear of him due to the way he was dressing. Spiral though to himself that it''s not like he wanted to look like this, and was scared his 1 durability pants or shoes would destroy themselves before he had a chance to find something decent to wear. Spiral hurried his way towards the library trying to draw as little attention as possible.
As Spiral hurried his way back to the library he was scared some guard would stop him and make his terrible experience more terrible. Though it didn''t happen but his attempts at drawing as little attention as possible wasn''t very successful. When he entered the library everyone was steering at him, and all the players that saw him expected him to get escorted out due to how he was dressed. Instead the players all just watched him walk into the restricted areas of the library, which made everyone that saw him very confused.
Spiral quickly went to his room to get changed, and as he finishes changing he heard a knock on his door. Spiral then opens the door expecting his guest to be who he thought it was. It was obviously Magnus who else could be on this floor except for him, as only Spiral and Magnus lived on this floor in the first place. As the door opens he greets Magnus with a smile.

Magnus walks into the room and then sits on one of the chairs next to the table. Spiral begins to telling his tale of what happened after he finished writing his book to how he killed himself by mana overloading a fireball skill, to how he finally reached back to this room. Magnus was listening carefully to the young researcher he had given the class to, and was quite amused at what had just happened to him.

Magnus gets up and starts to head towards the door, as Spiral watches him leave saying ¡°thanks for coming¡±. Magnus replies laughing with ¡°have a good day Spiral¡± as he exits the room. Now that Spiral had given Magnus the book which he was going to attempt again to deliver after changing clothes out of the way, he had nothing else on his to do list except MORE RESEARCH except this time it was going to be on magical symbols whatever they maybe called in Fantasy Road.
Chapter 5:Akahake
I do thank those who actually want to read my story and want faster updates, but sadly I don''t write as fast as others so I lose the will to write often. The story is sort of made up as I go along trying to make everything canon, which is weird since it''s made up as I go. The story world is actually already generated by some random generator I used online, so I didn''t have to think of how the world looked like. I''ve been reading comments saying that having a proofreader improves the time it takes to write, I''m seriously doubting that if I had one this would be any faster since I''ll probably still take forever to write one sentence. Spiral looked out the window and saw that it was already dark outside, he had talked with Magnus longer then he thought he had. He pondered starting his journey into the subject of sigils this moment, but opted not to since talking with Magnus actually tired him out quite a bit.
He sat there wondering what his friends were doing now in Fantasy Road, maybe they were off fighting a heard zombies or doing some epic quest off in some city faraway. He hadn''t had the time to catch up on what had occurred over the past 1 and ? months.
All he remembered was his friends messaging him good luck after trying to convince him to stop reading the Index, yet even that was hazy in his memory. He also recalled getting told how it would be difficult to party at this point with the level difference and all, but Spiral knew it would be near impossible to even attempt to catch up in levels at this point. There was also the fact that he still had a lot more research he needed to accomplish, and if he left to go adventuring now he would only delay the time needed to learn the subjects he required to achieve his goal. He Pondered what they were doing and just for the sake of doing it he attempted to start a chat with his friends.

Spiral sat there for awhile after the chat ended, since he felt quite weird after not talking to them for sometime. He knew he wasn''t going to join them on their adventuring any time soon, or in the near future making him feel quite lonely. He wondered what would of happened if he didn''t start reading the Index for awhile, but alas he knew it didn''t matter. He was here and he had all the resources or most of them to achieve his goal and that was more then he could of possibly ask for. He then proceeded to lay on the bed and closed his eyes waiting for tomorrow to come.
Spiral opens his eyes the next morning feeling refreshed, and then proceeds to head towards the cafeteria. Since Spiral was extra early today he saw Tracy along with the other kitchen staff setting up breakfast. He sat around where Tracy was setting up for breakfast and chatted with her about what had happened recently, and then afterwards went back to his room.
Spiral arrived at his desk and then began to start looking up books that had to do with magic symbols, and not to his surprise it was a search that was way too vague. There were more then 10,000 books that had something to do with magic symbols in them, which made it a subject that could potently span actual years in real life if he did not shorten his search.
Spiral knew in most fantasies that they used magic symbols in summoning and casting, while some used it in enchanting and alchemy. He had to first choose one of these subjects and hope that it leads him on some insightful breakthrough, otherwise this was going to take a very long while to accomplish. He also thought about possibly finding a professional in one of the subjects, but from what he had deduced things like profession secrets weren''t going to come without some sort of cost. He could have potentially became some sort of apprentice for like an enchanter, and slaved away days or even months trying to learn said secrets but would that have been truly the faster path? He believed it would have been probably harder to convince a person to teach him what he wanted to know than a book since books didn''t need convincing.
Spiral picked summoning as the subject he would first look into, because he knew it wouldn''t take all that long for him to encounter some sort of summon circle that he could try and study. He narrowed his search to magic symbols on summoning and the results were about a little more then 700, which was actually still too many. He refined the search to also include beginner and the number dropped to about 50, which to him was good place to start.
Spiral called the first book with the Index skill, and began reading and writing down notes that he could use for his research into summoning circles. This lasted for about a week in game, with Spiral logging in and out at night to do what he needed to do in real life. He managed to finish about 15 books, but the more he read the more things seemed weird to him. The summoning circles used for summoning spirits in many of the books were different yet did almost the same thing, which made it seem like these summoning circles didn''t have any predetermined arrangements. There were apparently summoning circles that had higher odds of summoning the element of your choice, but by how much it varies between books and circles. This was weird to him since the circles mentioned could be as large as a twin size bed, to as large as half a basketball court. The most silliest thing was that neither just the arrangement or size could truly determine what you would summon, but only increase the odds of summoning something of either greater strength or of a certain element.
Spiral concluded from all this that there was either some sort of language being used that could be identified on these circles that made up some sort of spell, or random arrangements of characters in some random order could summon stuff. The latter was probably not very realistic for a fantasy world as detailed as this, so it''s either he was totally crazy or he was onto something. He then started to match the characters on the circles with other circles and found that there were two different types of characters used on the circles. This meant that were actually two different possible languages to summon spirits, and who ever made these circles either knew that language or did many many tests to get it right, which he hope was the former.
Spiral now had two different set of characters or languages he could study, and truth be said one too many. He wasn''t going to learn two languages simultaneously since first that was stupid and second he wasn''t that smart. He knew that one who tries to take more then he could handle will lose whatever he took. He picked the character set that looked better in his eyes, since pondering over which to learn was differently a waste of time.
Spiral began to sort out which circles did what in that character set, and after about 4 days in game he manged to sort out the 50 books. He marked down which circle was of the chosen character set and where it was located in which book and what the book said it did. He did this for all 50 books, and eventually compiled a large list of summoning circles for that specific character set. By now, or after 4 days of looking out for that specific character set he could vaguely recognize the characters in it. He then spent 3 more in game days trying to write out all the characters found in that character set, and eventually compiled 68 different characters which he hoped was right since some characters looked more like some sort of period from the English language then anything.

It was now time for Spiral to try and locate a language book pertaining to this specific character set, and he had no clues other then the character set in front of him. He used his trusty Index skill to look up books pertaining to ancient languages and found about a 1100 of them, which was more then he wanted there to be.
It was now or never, and after spending a week in game doing nothing but extracting characters from a language and getting use to reading random scribbles he wasn''t going to stop now. He called the first book on the list and began to flip pages to see if it had anything to do with the character set he had extracted. He spent a whole month in real life or 4 months in game skimming for possible leads and when he found one he read through the entire book trying to figure out how to read and write in the language. Spiral eventually compiled a rough sketch of a dictionary for the language, which was written with sweat and blood in the metaphorical sense.
Many time during the beginning of the ordeal he questioned himself why in the world was he doing this and not outside blowing up horned rabbits or something, but instead he opted to move forward to reach his original goal in this game. He contacted his friends once in awhile when he needed to take a break, and through the conversations he knew that they still were looking for a better class advancement. It seemed that once you took your second advancement very few players managed to obtain a third advancement, and those that did said that it was only an improvement from the second class. That meant that the second class mattered a lot if you wanted something ¡°super special awesome¡±. (TL note: refer to Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series) They were of course very high level while Spiral was still level 1, the difference reached a staggering number of over 100. Worst of all in Fantasy Road there was no actual level limit, but truth be said leveling was getting more and more difficult his friends told him. He had yet to actually enter a real fight so all he could do was wonder how truly difficult it was to level from fighting and doing quests.
Not that it truly mattered to him, since the passive stats he had gained from researching would probably allow him to achieve his goal even if it might be a little unorthodox. It was now time for the moment of truth, just like how he gained Mana Analysis through titling his last book, he hoped that titling this rough sketch of a dictionary would grant him some sort of skill to aid in his endeavors. He then took a blank piece of paper and wrote on it ¡°Complied Information on the Lost Language of Akahake¡±. Why did Spiral call the language Akahake? It was because during the time he was looking through the long line of books he had read several books calling the character set before him Akahake.
At that moment he had heard the joyous ¡°ding¡± sound for the system alert. Spiral then hopefully called out for the system to show him his new skill.

Spiral stared at his new skill with a big smile on his face, it had been quite a long time since he felt so happy for completing a task he set out to do. Not only was his time entirely not wasted, but was awarded with a skill the system deemed worthy for the effort he put in. In the back of Spiral''s mind he feared that he would gain absolutely nothing for compiling the rough dictionary in front of him, and that fear leaving him was very refreshing.
Spiral began to try out his new skill by changing the system selected language, which he didn''t even know was possible. He tried changing the system selected language to that of Japanese, since he knew at least a little bit of it for being born part Japanese. His actual comprehension of the Japanese language was actually worst then his comprehension of Akahake, since he had spent 4 months in game studying Akahake but had rarely used Japanese in real life.

Spiral looked at the books he used for his research before him and they had all turned from English into Japanese, and now he could barely even read the first sentence in them. Though all the books from the library became Japanese the rough draft of his dictionary was still English, which made Spiral realize what changing the system selected language did. He could tell that everything that he took for granted being English could have also been any of the possible system selected languages. He then started to panic a little, since he didn''t know the Japanese for ¡°Change system selected language to English.¡± He now hoped for the love of his sanity he could change the system back to English, and so he tried using English to make the system selected language back to English.

Spiral had no clue what the system message in front of him said, but he hoped that it was exactly the same message he got when he turned everything Japanese.

The books before had all reverted back to being written in English, which caused Spiral to sigh in relief. If that didn''t work he would have had to somehow figure out how to change the system selected language in Japanese, which caused Spiral to shiver with fear. Spiral now felt very grateful to whoever thought about the feature of changing the system selected language to be able to recognize every language.
Now after shaking off the testing a feature of the game he didn''t know existed it was now time to actually test out his new skill. He definitely wasn''t going to turn the system selected language into Akahake, since doing so would make everything impossibly hard to understand. Instead if Spiral guessed right then the command to translate a language into another was ¡°translate¡±. He held the closest book that was on the table and tested out his guess.

The moment he finished his sentence another system box appeared next to page he was looking at, but on it was text in Akahake. He stared at the other page and the system box then was next to that page along with its Akahake translation. He flipped through more pages to see the box transition from page to page, but he noticed that certain words were not translated into Akahake. Those words were written still in English on the system box, which Spiral thought probably were the words his skill didn''t translate due to it''s mastery. Though there were words the skill didn''t translate he could probably use educated guesses now to try and decipher what it meant, since the skill allowed for the majority of the words he was looking at to be translated.
Spiral was now getting excited about the system assisted Akahake to English, which was going to save him an enormous amount of time compared to what he previously did. He looked at his own rough draft of an dictionary for Akahake and tried translating the Akahake text in it to English.

To his excitement the system box now showed English instead of Akahake, and as he looked through his own work he noticed that not everything was actually translated well. Things like he though was ¡°fire spirit¡± in Akahake was actual ¡°governor of fire¡± and other things that he though was such wasn''t such. This made Spiral feel a little down, since he took some pride in his rough dictionary that took 4 months in game to create.
In all honesty he thought to himself, since the language was definitely lost before he tried to compile the rough dictionary and it was a marvelous feat to even be this close. He believed the system granted him Expert [2] in the language for his effort and for ending up being so close to the actual meaning. Spiral now expected that if he tried to identify the missing words that weren''t translated by ¡°translate¡± then he could probably increase the mastery of the skill. He expected that he would eventually learn them as he encountered them, but he didn''t believe it was of great importance since he noticed that ¡°translate¡± was already able to translate English to Akahake almost entirely.
Spiral put down his rough draft, and then looked at some random beginner magic circle written on his notes. He retrieved the book with Index and then flipped to the page it was suppose to be located on and with ¡°translate¡± he was able to read all of it in English.
The circle consisted of a ring with two different chants written on both circles, and inside that ring was drawn an eye with another sentence overlaying it. The outer ring read ¡°I BESEECH THE GOVERNORS OF ALL ELEMENTS TO LISTEN TO MY PLEA¡± while the inner ring read ¡°fire water wind ice lighting earth light dark void¡±. The overlaying sentence on top of the eye read ¡°I call upon you from the depths of chaos and appear before me in your magnificent form, regardless of time or distance let nothing stand between us as I request the ancient pact to be fulfilled¡±. Spiral wasn''t really sure what it the world the summoning circle was talking about, but whatever it was it was probably something important enough to allow a person to summon spirits with it.
Spiral then went over a multitude of different summoning circles, and to his surprise the sentences in the middles varied greatly, while the first circle and second circle has less variance. This wasn''t to say that the first and second ring didn''t vary a lot they usually varied from being sentences to just words, but the inner writing had varying pictures to paragraphs of different places requesting assistance or upholding a pact of some sort.
As Spiral read more and more summoning circles he also ran into a few words that ¡°translate¡± couldn''t translate so he wrote it down as well as the context it was used in for research later. After getting the gist of how the summoning circles were written he heard the familiar sound of a system alert.

Spiral was speechless for a moment reading his new skill, since he didn''t expect that understanding what summoning circles had written on them would be a prerequisite for a skill such as this. The language of Akahake was indeed lost as the system message reconfirmed his guess, but for it also to be a prerequisite for such a skill was indeed something that he had hoped for after spending 4+ months in game learning.
Spiral got up out of his chair and then proceeded to look out the window, and not to his surprise it was already night. He then went and sat on his bed and logged out of the game.
John got out of his capsule, and then after a quick night snack he brushed his teeth, flossed and got ready to go to sleep. He was going to do something he hadn''t been doing for awhile, which was to actually get a well deserved full night''s rest.
