《Tenebris Anima》 Volume 1: Chapter 1 - School ends Chapter 1: School ends <> <> <> <> <> The bell rang. Everybody stormed out of the classroom, being unable to wait for the end. ¡°Which, is of course funny since they waited until it rang. A contradiction.¡° Last student to come out quietly chuckled, as she thought about it. That person was 1.72 meters tall, with waist-long ruby hair bond together into a ponytail. She had pretty face with medium-length nose, small lips and blue eyes that seemed to notice everything with their sharp gaze. She was wearing a loose, white T-shirt with an imposing angel with a drawn sword on the right and ''Ascension'' written with the black letters on the left side of it. On her back were similar angels, who were crossing their blades, as if in a fierce battle. On the background there were some shield-like markings, kept in a grey-blue colour theme. The same as angels. She was also wearing tight jeans which were widening at the ankles, along with black trainers and a black laptop bag. That person was Evelyn. She was seen as a beautiful, gentle and very smart girl. Liked by everybody. But that was merely an illusion. Behind her back she was called a bitch. Of course, she knew about that. And she knew the reason why. * * * She was an orphan. Her parents were killed in a tragic accident, when drunk and tired lorry driver crashed into their parents'' car as they were going for family vacation. She was 13 back then. When fire fighters arrived at the crash site and rescued her, they were amazed. She was miraculously unharmed, counting out numerous bruises and cuts which covered her. However she had nothing broken or sprained. The same couldn''t be said about her parents, or her state of mind. She was hurt mentally for the rest of her life, being a witness to the death of people closest to her. The first month was the hardest. The regret about not doing anything before the crash, or rather: not being able to do anything to prevent that, was too much for her. She raged over the unfairness of the world, where innocent people died thanks to mistakes of others. She grieved about her parents'' meaningless death. She grieved for herself, now alone. An orphan. She was an orphan. The realization hit her. And it broke her down. She spent days crying in the orphanage, the place she was sent to after the incident. This made her peers to view her as a weak, spoiled girl. Actually she was. Before the accident, that is. The wide reluctance she was treated with turned her into a sharp woman over years that passed. She had no more illusions of the world around her. There were only fools, bastards and rich people out there. That was the world she saw. And she would never let her become one of the fools. Bastards were not an option as well, seeing as she despised them. That''s how she felt about her fellow peers in the orphanage. Anyway, the only option left for her was to be rich. However she had one of the harshest starts there is. An orphan? She has no one to back her up. Her family forgot about her. And she did forget them in turn. - ''An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth'' ¨C is what she used to think whenever she remembered them. Right, it wasn''t the kind of oblivion where she would forget their faces and what they''ve done to her. She would instead never, ever, lend her hand to them. Being a cold-hearted was for the best. - ''They would only take advantage of me. Or rather, try to'' ¨C was yet another thought about them. Of course, she kept her tabs on them. To that, she simply used a social everybody was so fond of ¨C facebook. It was very easy, as she never let their names go. Of course, after a year passed since the accident, they were mentioning something about providing help for her. It was inevitable. But she never accepted any of those offers. She knew that if they really wanted to help her, they would ¨C when she was going through her hardest. Instead, she sensed that they wanted her to owe her. Being her, she knew that to be rich she had to study hard and get a good job. To that, she filled her time with study, going as far as being a year ahead of her classmates. As an addition she spent her ''free time'' on researching every brand of university studies, having a hard time deciding where to go. Finally she decided to go to a medical university. Health is never taken lightly, and the pay is good. With that in mind she focused her studies solely on subjects necessary for getting into a Medical University in Warsaw. After getting there, she would get money for her marks. Barely enough to live, but enough. At least that''s what she thought, as she prepared for her final exam since 1st year of high school. During the winter she also decided to learn some kind of martial art to defend herself in the foreign city. After a week of researching, she decided on Muay-Thai, as it''s said to be the most vicious and effective fighting style. Luckily there was a dojo nearby. Also, the people who took care of children at the orphanage, after days of pleading, allowed her to pick up the art. Their reluctance towards that decision was based on the increase of allowance given to her, which they judged to be ''too much for a quiet girl like her''. However in the end they gave in to the constant harass from Evelyn''s side, as she provided meaningful arguments on top of the non-stop bothering. Yeah, the caretakers were lazy. Very lazy. But that didn''t matter to her, as she was happy to be able to go and learn something to help her survive. She was 16 by the time. Years passed, as she continued to study with medical studies in mind, as well as learn Muay-Thai. She had very well trained body, which caught many sights of male students. After which they usually got hit by their girlfriends. Nevertheless, she never had any boyfriend. For her it was unnecessary, as she was going to be self-sufficient for the nearing years at the university. Finally she reached 18th birthday. And with the same day she was told to leave the orphanage, as she was an adult, and the facility is only for children. Fortunately, given that she was overall well-behaved, she was given a week to find herself a home to rent. Without allowance. That day she cursed what the world was standing on, as it was simply unfair. However she vowed to herself to never give in. Never again. She will stay strong, so that she wouldn''t let another tragedy like the one five years ago. However the money was still a problem. Not willing to stop learning martial art, she knew that a part-time job would not grant her enough money for both things. She did consider leaving the gym, however she had a hunch she would very much need it later. And she wasn''t the person to ignore such a feeling. In the end, without other alternatives she became a prostitute. It wasn''t easy for her. Not at all. At first she was disgusted with herself. As the time passed, she persuaded herself that it was a necessity to survive. With that, she could live on. Of course, she was very-well desired by men using such services. She quickly became a local celebrity, with her godly looks, further polished by the martial-art training. After a month she had a stable timetable for day:
- Get up - Do morning exercise - Eat a breakfast - Go to school - Do homework - Come back - Eat a dinner - Go to the gym - Come back - Take a shower - Go out to look for a client - Spend time with him - Kick him out - Take a shower - Study - Sleep
She did her homework at school, where she was sometimes called a genius. Truth to be told, she was good with everything she started. Someone would call her master of all trades. However nobody would ever bother to ask her how much time she invested into self-study. At school, she was doing two or three topics on one lesson. At first teachers were amazed by her ability, but got used to it with time. There were no complaints, as she was getting full marks on every test. She had a peaceful school life. But such things never last, especially with her choice of work. Sure, it was very well paid. However once found out, she had to deal with constant harassments. From both male and female students. Boys started to see her as a sex toy. Some, who had their control centre shifted from brain to balls and got too cocky, were quickly dealt with. Of course using Muay-Thai techniques she learned at the dojo. It was basically beating them to the point of fainting, then taking their pants off and leaving out in the open. Victims were always angry, but they usually kept their distance. Some who didn''t have enough brains just got treated the same way. Girls however choose more refined choice of harassment. Like making photos of her and putting them up on the internet. All because of simple jealously. They saw her as an arrogant goddess, who enjoyed the attention given to her by male students. Add to that her marks, as well as parents constantly comparing you to said goddess, and you have the object of hatred for your every mistake. As such, the remaining year was very hard for Evelyn. Even teachers were showing their disgust through their gazes or the way they talked to, or about, her. * * * Coming back to the present, Evelyn was eagerly awaiting the end of school. - ''Finally some time to sleep until I''m rested...'' - she thought, as she was riding the bus home. - ''Lately I was so busy with repeating everything for the finals that god damn me if I had more then 3 hours of sleep. I wish I could just drop on the bed... ... Mmm...'' - she started dreaming about sleep that she was falling over. However before she hit the floor, she was caught by someone. - Ahh, thank you. Sorry for the trouble... - she apologized, turning to the person who caught her. - Don''t worry, it''s a pleasure to help such a lady ¨C the man said before she turned completely. However she immediately recognized him. It was Mike, her latest client. There was no way she would forget his voice, his touch. The memory was still too... fresh for her. - I had no idea you were going to school ¨C he whispered her into ear. - You know, I could pick you up and take you to your place. The public transport is dangerous, you know. And we''d have some more time for each other... - he finished, not leaving her anything to imagine. - Thanks, but I''m not working right now. And I still have some things to take care of ¨C she replied in kind, noticing some people were curious about the pair. Or maybe they recognized her? Some clients went as far as using a camera during their private time. Who knows, maybe some of them put it on the net... She shrugged the thought off, knowing that there was nothing she could do now. At least she took more money for it. - Are you sure? I''m not so poor as to not being able to afford a nice car. And I get lonely, driving alone ¨C the whispering continued. - In that case why would you use a bus? - she whispered back, having bad thoughts. - Isn''t in obvious? I wanted to meet you little earlier, sweetie ¨C he answered with a sly smile on his face. Meanwhile people started to move away a little. - In any case you should know the rules ¨C she said, looking outside. The bus arrived at her destination. - Anyway, it''s my stop here. Mind letting me through? - she told a little louder to give herself some confidence. The man intrigued her, and she somehow respected him. Just a little though. The man let her through immediately. However she whispered something to her as she was passing him. - I have something for you tonight. Consider it as a thanks for your... services. Evelyn didn''t say anything, but the words wouldn''t leave her. She continued to think about them as she was walking the usual route to her home. They knew each other for mere two weeks, but him being as secretive as he is, there was one thing she was certain of. Unauthorized reproduction: this story has been taken without approval. Report sightings. He would never say anything thoughtlessly. * * * Evelyn was coming back from the dojo when she was approached by her neightbour. - You bitch, I swear that I will report you to the owner and have him kick you out ¨C she said quietly, with narrow eyes. - What would you want mrs. Smith? Is it about my guests? Or something else? - Evelyn asked back, feigning ignorance. - Guests! Ha! I''ve never heard worse joke. Are you happy that you''re milking innocent men dry of the money by flashing them your ass? Where''s you dignity as a... - Tell me what happened instead of insulting me please ¨C she cut her, knowing that she wouldn''t stop just there there. I was more interested in the new reason for her outburst. - It''s that lover you were bringing in lately! He rang to every house demanding that they let him in, as he has a meeting with you ¨C she said with a triumphant look in her eyes. - But I must say he sure is an eye-candy. That muscular build, along with short, brown hair and a beard... Add to that those wonderful blue eyes.. That''s it. She was just jealous. How simple, yet stupid. Evelyn took a moment to remember how mr. Smith looked like. Then she nodded, as the pieces fit matched nicely now. However Mike''s move got her worried a little. There was no such an incident before. Everybody abode by the rules. But she realized that it was foolish to think that it would last forever. She sighed, as her mind was busy thinking about solution to the problem... - So, what are you going to say, you slut? Of course everybody knew that you''re one, but... - she continued saying, probably expecting some reaction. And Evelyn did react. Too bad that it wasn''t the way mrs. Smith imagined she would. In a glance Evelyn hit mrs. Smith. Immediately after the strike connected Evelyn regained some sense, but was still pretty angry. But if anything, she didn''t regret it. The strength built up during the years of training wasn''t something to laugh at. The not-so-young-now woman fell over under the force of the strike. The passers-by stood in place, their mouths open. They wouldn''t even dare to imagine such a beauty turning into a violent ''beast''. But if Evelyn cared about what people thought of her, she wouldn''t be able to leave my home by now. Still angry, she knelt near the fallen woman as she was trying to get up and whispered to her ear. - That was for calling me a slut every time you see me. You have no damn idea how hard it is for me to set things straight. But you wouldn''t ever give a damn, feigning that you''re holy because you would never turn that way. You know, I see you as something worse then even those drunkards and beggars on the streets. They have more humanity left in them. And what a slut you secretly are... - Evelyn let the words reach the shocked woman, before continuing. - And don''t worry. I''ll make sure that man won''t bother you again... And let me assure you that my other ''guests'' won''t as well ¨C Evelyn finished, getting up. The only reply received got from mrs. Smith was silence, as she followed the girl wide-eyed while lying on the pavement, too shocked to get up. There was quite a crowd gathered at the scene by the time Evelyn was finished with what she had to say. Everybody watched her as she was getting closer to the wall of people. Some were so afraid of her that they hurried to let her through so much that they knocked over some unfortunate neighbours. Evelyn looked at them with raised eyebrow as she passed them, but didn''t bother to stop. She had much more important thing to do then wasting her time on some stupid mob, too scared to eventually help the woman if she was in danger. - ''If it isn''t in their interest, those bastards will never help other person. Even more if there is real danger...'' - as she walked, Evelyn had thoughts of this kind. ¡ ¡ ¡ Finally she arrived at the block her flat was located in. She didn''t hesitate as she entered the password. As soon as the sound signaling the lock opening was heard, she rushed inside. Her footsteps echoed through the stairway, as she looked up and saw a familiar face. Evelyn narrowed her eyes as she saw the man smile at her, and quickened her pace. By now she was passing two steps at once. In a second she stood face to face with the person responsible for her bad mood. - What do you think you''re fucking doing Mike, huh? - she asked before he had chance to say anything. She quickly got to the door pushing the man aside. Nobody would want to have an argument on the staircase, where everything would be heard. By everyone. - As I said, I have a gift for you ¨C he answered the question while she was dealing with the last lock. The sound of it opening was heard and she entered her home. Mike followed her, closing the doors behind him. Inside Evelyn didn''t immediately start questioning him. Instead, she started to boil the water and prepared two glasses. Then she went to her room for a change of clothes, and finally headed to the bathroom. - When the water''s ready, make a tea all right? Let''s straight some things after I take a shower ¨C she told him as she passed him, not giving him a glance. - Yeah, yeah. Whatever, honey ¨C he replied. Evelyn gave him annoyed look, as she closed the door to the bathroom. ¡ ¡ ¡ - So, what''s so important as you''d break the rule? - she asked, refreshed after the shower, while taking a sip of the tea and sitting comfortably in the guest room. Mike, who was sitting in front of her, only smiled as he took a sip as well. - Everything in due time, love. First, I''d like you to keep me company for the rest of the day. - End the small talk ¨C she told, trying to seem annoyed. She was actually really interested in the reason as for why he ignored the rules he promised to keep. - I told you, there is time for everything ¨C was the only answer she got. However before she could tell anything he took out two tickets out of his pocket. - Don''t worry, I have everything planned for today. But please ¨C he said, not letting her have a chance to speak ¨C don''t try to make me spoil the fun. ¡ ¡ ¡ A few hours later, they were at Evelyn''s block. As they were heading towards the staircase, they were approached by a man in blue uniform. In the dim light Evelyn recognized him as the deliveryman. She had no idea what would he want of her, but then the promise of a gift from Mike came to her mind. And that was bull''s eye. - Mr. Williams? - the man asked Mike. - That''s me. Right on time, great job. - Right, your signature, please ¨C said the blue collar, taking out the paper with a half-filled table and pointing where Mike should sign with a pen. The man in question quickly filled the required cell and returned the pen, with worker slightly bowing, as he turned around and picked up the black box. - That would be 3 450 PLN ¨C said the deliveryman, handing over the box. Evelyn stood there shocked by the amount to pay. - ''Isn''t it going well over the top now?'' - she thought. Mike on the other hand didn''t bat an eye and handed thick pile of 35 100 PLN banknotes. - Take the rest as a tip for your timing ¨C he said with a smile, as he held the box. - Thanks ¨C said the deliveryman, as he turned around and disappeared into the dark. Right now there was a silence between us, as we were looking at each other. - Is this what I think it is? - Evelyn asked, finally breaking the silence. To that Mike only smiled and gestured with his head to head towards the staircase''s entrance. Knowing that he will explain everything once inside, woman led the way. Once they were inside, with coats hung at the hanger, she finally took closer look at the box. It was quite catchy, as it was covered in ancient-looking graphics imprinted all over the box. And the lid was decorated with a map of some kind. On top of it were some letters, which said... - Asgaroth Online. First and the last VRMMORPG set in the fantasy world ¨C said Mike, placing the box onto a bed table. - I believe you have heard of it? - he asked honestly, and to Evelyn he seemed excited. - Yeah, when it came out last year everybody in my class were head over heels talking about it ¨C she said, sighing at the memory. - Is it really as good as they say it is? - Even better ¨C said Mike with a smile on his face. - It''s another world baby! Another world! Filled with magic, monsters and dungeons! - right now he seemed like a child, who got his toy for Christmas. It was an honest surprise for Evelyn, as until now he was all collected when around her. - Sounds good ¨C she said, ¨C but sadly I won''t be able to try it immediately. I have finals in a week, and I''d rather focus on them then on some game. - Hey, it''s not just another game! - Yeah, yeah. Whatever ¨C she said, mimicking him. Mike was thrown off for a moment, but then laughed as he remembered that he said the same words earlier today. - ''Man, she really can hold a grudge'' ¨C he thought, still laughing. - You know, you hurt me by saying that you won''t try it. - I didn''t say that I won''t. I said that I will put it away until I''m done with my exams. There''s the difference ¨C said Evelyn, crossing her arms. - And while we''re at it, I''ll be cutting myself off from work for the time being. I want to focus solely on my studies. - So you can''t wait for the more pleasant part of our meetings? - Mike asked, still in good humour. - No, I advice you to better use the time you have bought ¨C she said, pointing at the box ¨C with that damn expensive thing. Mike''s jaw dropped slightly at the straightforward denial. - You know, you could at least read the mood... - he said, feigning being hurt with his head down. But Evelyn noticed his smirk, and knew that he was having fun. She also noticed that he was already excited. - ''At least his body is honest with me... '' - she noticed with satisfaction. - Sorry that I can''t read the mood ¨C she said, getting closer. - But I know how to make one... - Mind telling me how? - I won''t tell. - ...? - Mike didn''t say anything, instead rising his eyebrow with a little smile. - I''d much rather show you... - she said, pushing him onto the bed. He didn''t resist, pulling her with himself instead. They locked lips for a while, when Evelyn broke the silence - Wait a moment, I''ll turn off the lights... - she let the words hang in the air as her hand glided from Mike''s face down, up to the hips. She felt little satisfaction as her hand caught a little twitch in the pants or the man. She got up, turned the lights off. And laid at the top of the man, who suddenly turned them over such he was on the top now. - Don''t think that you''ll be doing what you want every time, sweetie ¨C he said, biting her ear lightly. To that Evelyn laughed. Next words which left her lips were those of a challenge. - We shall see whether the night prefers a king or a queen as her ruler ¨C she said, biting his lower lip as an answer. And so the mortal dance begun, with gasps and moans as it''s music. _________________________________________ All right, here''s my new work. :-) I''d like you to point out when the dialogues are messy, as well as - numerous, as I believe - grammar mistakes. My goal is to make this FanFic into the nr 1 on the site. Which is why I will need your help by giving my ideas for MC''s adventures. Literally anything that comes to your mind, feel free to post a comment. Killing a giant ogre? Or maybe being caught in a trap by some slavers? I''d really like you to ''voice'' your ideas and opinions. Thanks! Volume 1: Chapter 2 – My name is Eve Volume 1: Chapter 2 ¨C My name is Eve <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> - Mmmm... - Evelyn said, as she dragged her arms out, as she woke up. She sat up for a while, while considering whether she should get up or allow a little pleasure of snoozing off for a little while. After weighting pros and cons of lazing around for a while, she eventually decided that she deserves some rest. Her final exams were officially over, and she suddenly had free time. Her eyes ventured to the black box lying on the bed table. - ''Or maybe not so free'' ¨C she thought as the memories of the night with Mike came back to her. She would never say it to him, but she had grown fond of the man. He knew how to be delicate. And that was a rare trait for men using sexual services. - ''Anyway let''s check whether this thing is worth the money'' ¨C she thought, as she finally got up and put on some T-shirt and shorts to not walk around in underwear. ¡ ¡ ¡ - Interesting... - she said to herself, as she took a sip of a morning coffee while sitting on the armchair with a laptop on her lap. Right now she was browsing throughout the numerous forums, trying to find something else then simple ¡°OMG THIS GAM IS ZO AMZING!!1!!!111!1!¡±. But she found one very constructive thread, which answered most of her questions.
All right folks, for those of you who have yet to try this absolutely amazing game, or rather completely new world, I have bunch of information regarding it. 1) The graphic. If one were to go to sleep in real world and wake up in the world of Asgaroth, at first he wouldn''t be able to feel a difference from real one. Everything is so detailed. And what''s more, the feeling when you touch something is very much real. There is no difference in perception. As well as physics is the same as real life''s one. It''s like that world is a better copy of the one we live in. 2) Races Continents of Asgaroth are populated with various races. Starting from humans, who have many branches regarding their homeland. For example Nomads are more resistant to poison and heat, and Nords have increased strength and tolerance to frost. As the only race they are the most balanced regarding stats, making them jacks of all trades. Later there are Elves, who generally share the trait of ''agile spellweaver'', having generally higher magic affinity, agility and dexterity, at the cost of lower strength and vitality. Make sure to never underestimate their archers as well! They are also the same height as humans. Following in kind are orcs, who have great strength and vitality. That makes up for their low intellect, as well as dexterity. They are the worst manufacturers, relying on trade with other races to arm themselves up. Regarding height they are the tallest race available, offset by the fact that they are also hideous. And intimidating. Lastly there are dwarves. Small, but sturdy, their strong points lie in strength and dexterity. They are the go-for choice if your dream is to become legendary blacksmith. They also are the only race with innate knowledge of most crafts. 3) Spells and skills There are two categories of ''special attacks'': said spells and skills. To use spells you burn your mana, and to use skills ¨C stamina. Spells, especially at later stages, require very long chanting, as well as very big mana pool. It is offset by the fact that one ignored mage is able to wipe out whole army, if left alone for a long enough time. Which is why they are the usual target of assassins and the like. Skills on the other hand don''t require you to speak a word ¨C much less chant. The mechanic is really simple ¨C to use a skill you need to learn to correct form from masters, or discover one yourself ¨C and just so you know, skills are based on the real life. Which means martial artists have easier start. 4) Classes There are 4 basic classes of Warrior, Archer, Mage and Cleric. I''m not going to dive deeper into the subject, the names are self-explanatory. Just so you know you can''t change your class once you gain one, so be extra careful in your decision. 5) Death Once you die there is an 8-hour ban from the game. Mainly to cool off and such. Usually it''s best to get a sleep and don''t grief too much over death. You lose only coins and some experience, so the penalty isn''t that high. Oh, there''s also a chance to lose some items, but it''s nothing you should be wary of. 6) Combat Remember how I told you that martial artists have I easier? That''s because you don''t control you in-game character. You are that character. Ever wanted to try that super-awesome-ultra-powerful move of you favourite anime character? Go ahead and do it. Who knows, maybe you''ll get a skill for it! Everything is based on your reflexes and judgement. Don''t rely on stats completely. Or some random RNG (when there''s not enough randomness in classic RNG). 7) NPCs Remember how those guys usually stood still in one spot? Well, now you won''t see a difference between them and real players! Isn''t that crazy? Also remember: You can take NPC''s place as a shopkeeper or a priest. Maybe a tailor? Everything you do has it''s effect on the continents of Asgaroth. If you didn''t stop reading mid-way to go and grab a copy of the game along with ELECTO from the nearest shop. But if you didn''t, here''s...
Evelyn didn''t bother to read any further, since it didn''t contain any important details. - ''Yeah, nothing important'' ¨C she thought as she skipped through the rest of the post. - ''Just advertising how great is the E.L.E.C.T.O. they''re offering...'' Or course she was familiar with the term. E.L.E.C.T.O. was the abbreviation of the full name for the VR device: Electronic Link Enabling Connection To Otherworld. The full name was kind of silly, but it wasn''t her who did the naming process. And everybody calls it Electo anyway. Evelyn spent some more time digging around the net, after which she went to dojo. She''ll play after she comes back. * * *

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it. - Female ¨C Evelyn said.
What is your desired race? You can choose from the...
- Elf.
And which variant is to your liking? Elven variants are: High, Wood, Dark, Light
- Dark ¨C said Evelyn without hesitation. This decision was the fruit of serious thoughts, where she listed out pros and cons of every variant, as well as compared them to her skills. High Elves possess the highest affinity for magic, making them powerful mages. Wood Elves make best archers, when Light Elves are ''blessed by gods''. Whatever that means. But it broke down to being better clerics. - ''Or in-game ambulances'' ¨C as Evelyn called them. Whereas Dark Elves specialize in stealth, as well as melee combat. To be honest that was what weighed turned the scales in it''s favour. Muay-Thai techniques are bound to have their uses in Asgaroth.
Set your appearance.
Right now Evelyn could see her virtual body. Being a Dark Elf, she had grey skin, black waist-long hair, blue eyes and her physique was the same as the one in real world. She did some modifications, like turning her hair colour into dark red with blue tips. - ''I always wanted to have hair like this...'' - she thought as she looked at ''herself'' standing before her. She also changed eyes to a dark green colour. After doing some double-checking, she accepted her avatar.
What is your name?
- Eve. - Short and simple. Also being an abbreviation of her own name, it won''t take her long to get used to it. Evelyn honestly wasn''t the one to overcomplicate things for herself. After choosing the name she was ''put'' inside her avatar''s body. She admired her new body for a while, before another message box popped up.
Where would you like to begin your journey? The world has 5 continents where you can begin your adventure. Also there are from 5 to 12 kingdoms on each of the continent. As a Dark Elf you can start on the continents of Angara and Oceania. There is a total of 4 kingdoms available for beginning your journey.
After she was done with the message, it disappeared and in it''s place two maps of two different continents showed up. On the right there was a continent of Angara, and on the left ¨C Hesperia. Evelyn of course knew the map very well. She did her research thoroughly after all. For starters, the continents ranged in size as following: Angara, Gondowan, Osenia, Atteka and Hesperia. The number of kingdoms was: 12, 10, 6, 11 and 5 ¨C in order. Angara, being the biggest continent had of course the most kingdoms. However Atteka, second smallest, had only one less. The reason for that was that it was highly populated by warlike orcs and humans. With neither side willing to give up their reign over natural resources like iron mines or fertile lands. As funny as it might sound, all 11 kingdoms there signed the pact which was banning them from destroying others'' goods. And even strangely every single one was abiding by it. Of course, there were minor clashes between races on all continents. It was inevitable. And as Atteka, placed on the south-western part of the world was known as the most warlike continent, then Hesperia ¨C placed directly north to the Atteka ¨C was known as the most pacific continent. Any conflicts were quickly dealt with, and locally at that. The peace was very well-preserved. Beside continents, there were also numerous isles. The ones worth mentioning are: Indra, Isumo and Tundaria ¨C while the first two were located on the east part of the world, the last was frozen wasteland of south. Of course, there were various monsters'' populations on every continent. It is said that it''s so vast, that researching them all is a task for tens, if not hundreds of generations of researchers. Which is why nobody bothered even to start, limiting themselves to local species. Of course the knowledge gathered over a day of research is still very minimum. That is, for Evelyn at least. Most people wouldn''t bother to look for a rough map of the world ¨C the only one accessible from the real world. Anyway, Evelyn had resolved herself to begin her journey on the continent of Angara ¨C largest of all. Located at the centre of the world and reaching far to the north, it was so big that there were still large parts left unexplored. But there comes a question. Which kingdom out of the three available would be the best to begin one''s adventure in? Evelyn pounded for a while before choosing the kingdom of Vailen''gard. It was located in the centre of the Angara, what made it the best starting point for a fresh adventurer like her. Two others were: Inral, also known as the south border of the Angara, and Elvasnay ¨C the home of all Elves, located on the easternmost part. While Inral was placed in the mountainous region, both Vailen''gard and Elvasnay were rich in forests. However Veilen''gard was a place which welcomed members of every race, as long as they weren''t going to endanger kingdom''s people. It was an exception among other kingdoms, which were friendly for members of ''their'' race. And Evelyn didn''t want to associate herself with such racists. - I''d like to begin in Veilen''gard ¨C she finally said.
The CCP is finished. You will be transported to the capital of Veilen''gard in a few seconds.
- ''Let''s begin my vacation, shall we?'' - she thought with a smile, waiting for the process to end. Hey there everyone, Happy New Year! As always, post your thoughts about the chapter. Yeah, I know that it''s a tad too short as well as shallow regarding MC''s feelings and thoughts. However I wanted to explain ''a little'' about the world most of the story and action will be in. Thanks for your time! Volume 1: Chapter 3 – The Veilengard Kingdom Training Facility Volume 1: Chapter 3 ¨C The Veilen''gard Kingdom Training Facility <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> A few days have passed since Eve started her journey in the world of Asgaroth. When she appeared in the City Square, she was amazed. By the details, which made this world seem as real as the real one. - ''It''s amazing...'' - she thought, as she took a stroll throughout the capital city, eyeing everywhere. The buildings were really differing. Some were white with flat roofs. Those Eve deemed to be trade centres, as they were so big that there was enough space for 6 or 7 shops inside. And inside wasn''t tight at all! She confirmed it, after exploring one of them and taking a look at the wares inside. Then there were brick buildings with metal-plated roofs. They were houses, as Eve got kicked out of one of them after going inside out of curiosity. - ''It''s not like you''d go inside other peoples'' houses in real life as well after all. Nothing strange there'' ¨C Eve though. The last kind of buildings were made out of stone. Unlike other ones, they resembled castles from books Evelyn used to read when she was a child. She smiled sadly as she remembered those moments. With that sad smile on her face she went inside. As she took more steps inside, she was approached by an uniformed person. She came back to reality, as she stopped and took a better look at him. Little higher then her, with dark brown hair. He had brown eyes, as well as many scars. The biggest one out of them was cutting through his nose. The uniform was very similar to the one guards out on the streets wore ¨C dark red with black boots, white gloves and white armband with red and black cross on his right arm. The only difference was a black shoulder pad on his left shoulder. - What do you want here, stranger? - I''ve just arrived in this world and am curious about it ¨C Eve said. - Mere curiosity steered my feet here, as I contemplated wonders of this world. To that the guard nodded. - In that case I''ll ask you to turn away, unless you want to sign up for the military training. It will last four weeks, and after it ends you''ll be given a choice: either join the army, or do us a favour. Usually the kind differs on the abilities trainee shows us. - Do I get anything out of it beside training? - I see, an adventurous one, huh? - he said, nodding to himself. - In that case you''ll receive payment upon completing assigned mission. Oh, I almost forgot. You get free lodging, food and new clothes during your stay here. - I see, a win-win situation for both sides ¨C Eve said, smiling. This time viciously. - All right, deal. - Follow me ¨C was all he said, turning away. Eve followed him politely, looking around curiously. Coming back to the present... * * * - Faster, you slowpokes! - instructor shouted, seemingly angry. - Even my grandma could outrun you lot, and she''s already eighty years old! - ''What an overused taunt'' ¨C thought Eve as she smiled lightly. However instructor noticed that. - You! Not you, dumbass. The smiling one. What''s so funny, eh? - he shouted, spitting his saliva around. - ''Gross!'' - thought Eve. - Just reminiscing, instructor Carl. - Just reminiscing, eh? Then I''ll give you some more time for your little reminiscing as you''ll be doing two more sets of exercises. Is that clear?! - As a day, instructor Carl ¨C Eve said, seemingly shining with happiness. - ''Damn it. That guy wants to kill me or what?'' - she grumbled. However her train of thoughts was stopped by a notice showing up before her.
Your Stamina increased by one.
Eve dismissed the black box, as she continued to run. Ever since signing up for the hell camp, as she called it, she received quite a lot of similar notices. Some said that her agility increased, while some ¨C although rare ¨C told her about strength increase. So far she had about twenty of those, however she didn''t check her character status. She vowed to herself that she won''t do it until the end of the training. Another selfish vow, but she didn''t want to see how strong she is until she completed it. She feared herself feeling that ''it''s enough'' and doing everything half-heartedly. And so days passed, as she sweated hard while training. One might ask ''Why did she sign up to begin with?''. It''s simple. Evelyn likes challenges. She was like that ever since before the accident. If there was something she couldn''t do, she worked hard until she could. This trait of hers in turn made her grow up faster then her peers, as she topped more and more exams. She even got first place on the mathematics'' national competition. Of course that was in grade school, but she did it while being a fifth year (school has six years). She saw how proud of her were her parents. So she doubled the effort in studying, reaching top three in every competition she took part in. While studying, she took a liking to the nature. It fascinated her, so she frequently visited library in her town, borrowing books on high school level. As the time passed, she knew more and more about the world around her. * * * At last, two weeks passed. Of course during training Evelyn didn''t let the game become more important then reality. She was still going to the dojo, as well as working. However without school there was a lot of free time. She also started going to Muay-Thai dojo in the mornings. Soon enough her daily routine looked like this:
- Wake up - Eat - Go to dojo - Come back - Take a shower - Eat something - Play AO - Eat something - Work - Play AO some more - Sleep
Sure, she got hooked up on the game. But on the other hand, who wouldn''t? There, she had the chance to go where she wanted. Not being limited by money. Without real fear of death. Yeah, that was a world of dreams. ¡ Right now all trainees were standing on the training square. Whole thing wasn''t impressive in the slightest. Just a square of plain ground surrounded by stone walls from three sides, while fourth was leading into the barracks. In the middle of the ground were many rows of scarecrows, where other trainees used to train with their weapons for the past two weeks. But right now it was empty. Eve and her group were training by the walls, either running around the square or doing other strengthening exercises. But right now it was a first since beginning of the hell camp, when they weren''t already running around or doing push-up or doing stand-ups. There were some whispers going on in the group. Some trainees talked about stats they gained so far, other were expressing their worries about another two weeks of training. Of course, during two weeks that passed everyone approached Eve one way or another. Or rather tried. The thing is that she almost always did something to piss off the instructor, and got more sets of exercises then anyone else. In fact she ended up doing twice the amount only for being sarcastic. And there was more then that. Some men enchanted by her looks once joined her in her extra sets. And never did it again, as she didn''t pay attention to them or their ''heroic'' deed. They just wanted to get close to her, and she wasn''t going to make it any easier. - ''They only care about the looks anyway'' ¨C she concluded on the second week, watching them looking at her from under the wall, resting. Of course it wasn''t their fault. There were only about 2 or 3 girls other then Eve in here total, and they weren''t soaking in sweat. In addition Evelyn used her real body as a model for the avatar, and it having her hot body was real eye candy for males. Anyway, the trainees split into two groups: players and NPCs. Eve was somehow in the middle, not joining any conversation. That''s why she was the first to see a group of instructors heading their way. Some of them she saw for the first time, however by now she learned that every instructor wears black shoulder pad. - Straighten up, you little flies! As of now, the first part of training is officially over. Right now you will be given different weapons to see which suits you the most ¨C said the centre instructor. Eve noticed he was the one who greeted her when she entered training grounds. - Yes, instructor Issac! - shouted trainees in unison. Some couldn''t keep their grins; the boring training was finally over. They thought that right now they will learn a bunch of techniques and be ready. Especially players. - The weapons are in the barrels near the scarecrows. You have two hours to choose one to your liking. After you''re ready keep it and stand near a scarecrow. Trainees enthusiastically rushed to the barrels. However Eve wasn''t among them. Instead, she approached the instructors. - What do you want, trainee? - asked one of instructors she didn''t know. - I prefer fighting bare-handed sir ¨C Eve told, standing straight. To that some of instructors raised their eyebrows. - In that case just go and stand near a scarecrow. Show us what you''re made of ¨C said the same instructor. Ever bowed her head a little and went to the closest one. There, she clenched her fists and started hitting it. Some of the trainees who noticed her dropped their jaws, as they watched her. In their minds she turned to a master martial artist. Of course it didn''t escape Eve, who was curious about their reaction. - ''A total novices, huh?'' - she though. Instructors noticed it too, but that''s what they expected. But now they were shocked. When questioned a little before signing up for the training, she told them that she just arrived in the city and that she was an Outsider ¨C that was how NPCs called players. However they didn''t expect her to show a fighting style of the Apojii Islands. Apothajii. Apojii Islands were placed on the very border of the map Evelyn found on the net. Placed on the south-eastern side of the world, it was the easternmost place where people of the Asgaroth Online went for the vacations. The same instructor came closer to Eve, as she was hitting the scarecrow. There, he noticed her hands bleeding. - Why are you going so hard at it? - he asked. Eve stopped hitting, as she turned to face him. Then he noticed. Her hands weren''t the only bleeding parts. Her legs and knees were as well. - Where did you learn this style of fighting? - he asked. - In my world. - Short and concise. - Really now? Every outsider I''ve met so far didn''t know a clue to fighting. - In that case you didn''t meet the right one. Those words made instructor pop a vein on his forehead. Of course he heard about sarcastic trainee. She made every one of them mad. At least he had enough self-control to not show his anger. - Continue hitting the scarecrow for the next two weeks. Then... - as he was about to finish, he was abruptly cut by the very trainee. - I''m sorry instructor, but is there any form of ranged combat? I''m confident in my hand-to-hand abilities, and I didn''t miss some guards patrolling the streets with guns or crossbows instead on top of having a sword. I''m especially curious about the gun at your waist, instructor... - Eve said, looking the man calmly into the eye. At the end she made a pause, letting the man know that she doesn''t know his name. - You have keen eyes, trainee Eve. All right, this instructor Marcos will show you the way to the range ¨C he said, turning away. But before he took three steps, he turned back. - Oh, before we go make sure to get yourself patched up. It''s unfitting for a girl like you to bleed so much. I''ll wait for you here, so go. - Yes, instructor Marcos. It''s amazing how he calmed down. One might ask how it''s possible. The thing is that he, as well as every instructor, believed that she was another greenhorn. And sarcastic at that. Then he saw her fighting style and was surprised. Enough that he wanted to ask where she learned it. In his eyes Eve gained some respect. However he was a veteran of war. Too many times did he see strong warriors fall because of getting careless. Confident in their abilities, they slowly stopped to watch their surroundings, only to fall prey to someone they didn''t consider an enemy. Which is why he was pleased that even though Eve shown that she was strong enough to take on most of the people, she was still cautious. - ''She would make a fine addition to the army...'' - thought Marco, looking at pathetic trainees hitting scarecrows blindly. ¡ Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. - You''re late ¨C he said, looking at the clean and bandaged trainee before him. This time a vein popped on Eve''s head, as she was fresh after the rush to find bandages and a place to clean herself of blood. Then she bandaged herself as fast as she could, but not too fast as bandages would fall after five seconds of walking. Still she was little proud of herself for the speed she did it. - If it was a battlefield you''d have to move twice as fast ¨C said Marco. - I''ve had enough time to think of the whole training I''m going to make you go through. - Yes sir. - It was the only answer Eve could come up with which wouldn''t anger the instructor before her. After all she got a chance to get what she wanted. Ranged combat training. - All right, let''s not waste more time. Follow me! - he said, quickly walking off. Eve followed him closely, however she had to use all her strength to keep up. While walking, that is. - ''No way I''m going to run after somebody who takes a carefree stroll'' ¨C was what she thought to herself. But in fact Marco started his training. - Use your toes a little ¨C he said after a while, looking at her. It took some time, but after she grasped it Eve could walk much faster then before. That was when she saw two black boxes appear before her.

It was something new. Eve gave the box surprised look. - ''Looks like I can learn here skills which are useful in normal life as well.'' Of course during show-off at training grounds Eve earned another skill. - Show Apothajii ¨C she muttered under her breath, not wanting Marco to hear it.
Skill Name:Skill Type:Skill Level:Skill Experience:
ApothajiiPassive226%
A fighting style developed on Apojii Islands. It holds ritualistic meaning to natives of the archipelago. Enhances techniques of this style, giving them additional 3% damage every level. Some blows might send shockwave throughout target''s body, destroying innards and passing armor. Chance for the effect to happen: 0.2% per level.
Right now Eve had Apothajii on level 2, which means that she doubled initial bonuses. Also it means that the more levels she gains, the more she will have to work for lesser increase compared to what she has. To some it can be disheartening. - ''Every point matters'' ¨C she thought, remembering all clutch moments from competitions where she topped by a margin of one point or less. Finally they could hear sounds of something hitting other things. It took surprisingly long time, considering that it all was in one building. - Surprised? Yeah, this facility is pretty big. However what you''re seeing now is reserved for actual army ¨C said Marco as he turned and faced her, still going ahead. - What? I didn''t say that I will sign up for the army ¨C Eve said quickly with narrow eyes, looking directly on the man before her. She stopped walking, and so did he. - Don''t worry, for you we will make exception. - Why is that? - You have shown us that you''re ways above those greenhorns you were placed with. And I have to add that while you went through three or four times the normal training, your body is much stronger then theirs. - Don''t expect me to act as a faithful doggy, wigging it''s tail at every word of it''s owner. I have my own opinions and points of view. - Believe me, I have noticed ¨C it was Marco''s turn to narrow his eyes a little. - But don''t forget where you are. - Is that a threat? - Eve asked, rising her right eyebrow a little. - A friendly reminder ¨C said Marco, returning to his usual poker face. - We''re almost there. Having said that he turned away and resumed walking. Eve followed him. ¡ Thump! Thump! Thump! The sounds of projectiles hitting wooden boards came from every direction. Some of the people took a moment to check out a newcomer, but when they noticed instructor glaring at them they hastily resumed their target practice. The range was very similar to the trainees'' training ground. The only difference was that it''s slightly longer and instead of dummies at the centre, there were target boards by the walls. Also trainees were limited to the area around the entrance, and the place where they could walk around was divided by waist-high fence. But beside those, it was the same ground and the same stone around. Marco stood there still, waiting for reaction. But Eve just looked at everything with poker face of hers. - So what do you think? - he couldn''t hold it in. - Those guys sure are disciplined. Unlike the lot that was with me ¨C said Eve, still watching surrounding recruits. - Ha, so cold. They are the ones who will become a part of the honourable Veilen''gard Army! And it consists only of cream of cop! - he shouted enthusiastically. After he said that recruits stopped shooting, turned and saluted. After a moment they resumed activity, but that was enough. It made enough of impression to leave Eve stunned a little. Seeing that, Marco chuckled a little before coughing and straightening his face. - So what do you think now? - That show just now was surprising. In a positive sense of the word ¨C she said after a moment. Marco just smiled lightly, as he turned to the instructor who kept on watching the pair. - I''ve got you a trainee ¨C he said with a smile. - And why would I accept her? - a female voice could be heard. Eve looked over her from head to toes again, making sure that she didn''t overhear herself. - ''That was definitely woman''s voice just then'' ¨C she though, not believing her eyes. It wasn''t until the closer look that Eve noticed slight curves in the chest and hip area. The reason for that is armour set, which covered woman''s exposed places. But not only that. That instructor was keeping herself completely straight. Unlike any woman Evelyn ever had a chance to meet. And was also wearing a helmet. After taking a closer look one could see chestnut coloured hair, which was kept short. - You, how long you''re going to watch me trainee? - Eve''s train of thoughts was stopped completely by the female instructor before her. - I''m sorry, instructor... - trainee didn''t finish, not knowing the name of the person before her. - Her name is Victoria ¨C Marco quickly introduced her to Eve. - All right, that''s enough now Marco. Let me see what she''s made of ¨C said Victoria, heading to a weapon rack left to the entrance. - Thanks Vic ¨C he said before going away. But not before he could flash that light smile of his. - ''He must have some hots for her, that''s for damn sure'' ¨C thought Eve, who noticed it as she followed Victoria. - All right trainee, here are the weapons. Pick which one you want and... - Victoria started, but she stopped mid-sentence looking behind Eve. - I thought you''re already gone Marco. - Ahh, I almost forgot to say one thing to our cute trainee ¨C he said, coming closer. - Whatever, make it quick. She has a lot of work to do ¨C said Victoria with dissatisfaction, looking at recruits. - Hey, you lazybones! Put some heart into it! - she shouted and walked over to supervise some recruits who thought they can slack off since instructor isn''t paying attention. Marco watched her go, and Eve thought she noticed a flash in his eyes for a moment. But he collected himself right away. - Right, I forgot to give you a little explanation how your two weeks will pass. Frankly, it''s simple. From morning until evening you''re going to be here on the range, and after a meal you''ll go to trainees'' training ground for some strength training ¨C he said, looking Eve into the eye. - Just strength training? No hitting scarecrows? - she asked with a little raised eyebrow. - Hmm... all right, I think ¨C he said quietly after a little while. - After you''re done with exercises, you were free to do what you want anyway. I''ll throw you some scarecrow hitting. Let''s see... An hour should be okay.... Yeah, definitely... - he finished under his breath. - Right, I''ve decided. After strength training you''re going to have additional one and a half hour for scarecrow hitting ¨C he said, booming Eve one of his light smiles, thinking that it was a great idea. Right now Eve was on the verge of considering a murder of an army officer in an army facility. But luck has it that Marco wasn''t stupid, and he knew what was coming. - Oh, I almost forgot. Starting from tomorrow you''ll be getting some presents from me ¨C he said, and a vicious smile formed on his lips. - Don''t worry, it won''t be anything dangerous. Just remember that it''s for your well-being, okay? - as an addition his eyes sparked dangerously. He chuckled a little, as he went towards the entrance. Mid-way he waved his hand a little, marking his good-bye for the day. - ''Goddamnit. I friggin'' hate this guy!'' - Eve screamed in her mind, knowing that he''s going to make her remaining time here real hell. Frankly up until now Eve had no general opinion on him. He was always changing. At the beginning he appeared to be strict military man. Later he showed his light side, as he was enthusiastic about everything ¨C however regarding the army or kingdom. But now he showed his grim, sadistic side of his. - ''He seems to really hold his grudges'' ¨C the trainee though. On this very moment Eve earnestly started to hate him. However she didn''t have much time for her thoughts. Seeing Marco leaving, Victoria approached her. - So, trainee, which weapon you want? We have some short bows, long bows, recurve bows, crossbows, muskets and mana pistols ¨C she said, pointing at every weapon on the weapon rack. Eve considered every weapon, but no matter what the drawbacks came to her. Bows were too big to be able to weak them and fight bare-handed. Crossbows and muskets had too long reload time to be of any use. Of course, in an army it was put to a great use. With higher piercing power then bows and arrows, crossbows provided stable, low-budget ranged bombardment. Muskets had strongest power out of the three, but the reload time, as well as ammunition cost made it banned in most of skirmishes for Veilen''gard. Only a full-scale war was really worth it. Of course Eve didn''t know about it. However she didn''t like an idea of long reloading. Then the only weapons left were mana pistols. Sure, there were ideas of mana muskets. However they were quickly dismissed. The reason for that is the general weak fire power compared to live ammunition. Unless of course the wielder was a mage, however such a mage was better off casting high-ranked magic like ''meteor'' or ''fire rain''. However mana pistols are fine. The reason is that they are much more accurate then live ammo ones, as mana bullets'' accuracy is dependant on the skill of the wielder, not luck. Muskets, unlike pistols, have much longer barrels, making their projectiles much more accurate. That Eve didn''t know too, but she couldn''t find some real drawbacks to the pistols. However she had to ask one thing. - What ammo do mana pistols use? - They drain your mana constantly, filling their own mana magazine. When fired, the mana inside it concentrates into bullet-like shape and accelerates. All of it done with magic inside the magazine. That set it. - I''ll take mana pistols then ¨C Eve said confidently. - All right, follow me to the place you''re going to take. And don''t forget your... - Victoria wrinkled her forehead for a moment. - Wait a second, did you say pistols? - Yeah. I wanted to try both ¨C Eve said, holding two pistols from the rack. - No, no and once again no. First you''re going to have introduction to this toy you''re holding ¨C said Victoria, as she got very close to Eve. - After you''ve learned using the weapon with your dominant hand, you might try to use it with other one. But. No. Dual. Wielding. Unless. I. Say. You''re. Ready ¨C instructor said, each word louder and louder, as her eyes narrowed more and more. - Yes m''lady! - said Eve, as cold sweat ran down her spine. - ''Definitely scary!'' Volume 1: Chapter 4 - Progress, night time ambush Volume 1: Chapter 4 ¨C Progress, night time ambush <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> Thump! Thump! Thump! The sounds of projectiles hitting wooden practice targets echoed around the range. Getting up from the spot she was meditating, Eve took her mana pistol out of it''s holster and carefully aimed it at her target. ...Bang! Compressed mana flew out of the barrel, not making a sound. Only to explode slightly upon reaching it''s target. Eve shot 9 more times, before she sighed and put the gun down. Right now she was focusing on increasing her accuracy ¨C which means that she had to tone down the amount put into making mana bullets. By now her control allowed her to shoot as much as 10 bullets before resting. Even though it was still an improvement from initial 4 times, it was still far away from what Victoria showed her. Instructor''s bullets didn''t make a sound upon impact, however they still marked where they hit by leaving slight burns on the wood. Compared to Victoria, Eve was really far behind. At least that''s how Eve felt. - ''That girl... she caught up quick. It took me three weeks before figuring out how to manipulate my mana... It must be because she''s Outsider. Yeah.'' - Thought Victoria, as she kept an eye for Eve''s progress. Right now it was fifth day of the second part of hell camp. Eve was meditating once again. While wearing long-sleeved shirt, full-length trousers and knee-high boots in dark red and black colours she looked like a trainee or army recruit. However in reality she was struggling with every movement. Morning after her new training course started she had have the displeasure of being woken up by multiple kching! sounds and sensation of a cold metal enveloping the body. That''s right, she was forced to wear something Marco called ''training suit''. - This thing isn''t made for a woman to wear you bastard! - Eve shouted once she came to her senses after being suddenly woken up by a feeling of being cuffed. However to her doom the person who did it only smiled lightly and left her room. Finally after a minute of fighting against the laws of gravity, Eve managed to stand up. Later on she couldn''t find the person responsible for her current state. The only reason she stopped searching were notices of increased statistics ¨C something she didn''t see for some time now. She also remembered man''s final words: ''Just remember that it''s for your well-being, okay?''. That calmed her down, but she didn''t hesitate to swear that she''ll get her revenge... someday. So far she started getting used to the constant added weight. Still, being under constant pressure made her resent all those wannabe knights and the like who were forced to wear this kind of armour all the time. But all in all, she was somehow satisfied in her progress. She didn''t know, but currently she was going through the hardest training session which could be offered to people not belonging to the army... and even that with the big stretch of Marco''s contacts. As well as owing some to certain people. But Eve didn''t know any of that. Guessing, sure. There was no other person going through the same thing. However no matter how much she could suspect, there was no certainty. * * * Day eight of training. Right now Eve could shoot as much as 20 bullets before emptying her mana pool. She had finally reached the level of control where she could lower power output by five times. Victoria secretly admired her talent, however she tried to convince herself that it was only because she was Outsider. Right now Eve had 35% and 25% chance of hitting a bull''s eye with her right and left hand respectively. Also she very rarely missed her target ¨C with about 96% probability of hitting what she wanted. Of course such accuracy, as well as power output''s control was possible thanks to two skills she acquired during the first week.

Support the author by searching for the original publication of this novel. Eve could consider herself lucky. Because Mana Manipulation skill is gained only when person is either a genius magic user or has a good teacher, and Steady Aim is learned and improved when the person uses guns while his hands are weighted down. Both of which are relatively unknown by the player population, and those who learned of how to acquire them keep it for themselves. Or trade the knowledge for money. Anyway Eve further focused on her training. If there is one thing about games she knew, then it was that the work invested in the early days improve one''s overall gaming experience by making the further progress easier. Actually that''s the matter for everything. Every time she was about to give up, she repeated that the ''Investment for the future'' is a necessity. It was only by understanding that she became who she is now. . . . Right now Eve was barely walking through the corridors to her room. She just finished her late melee practice, further improving herself. However she wasn''t there alone. She was ''guided'' by some instructor whose name she didn''t know to do horrendous exercises until he was satisfied and told her she''s free. And there was no running away, as on the first meeting he told her that he won''t let her. As he hit her with a whip. Today was the worst, as he keeps on making her do more and more. - ''It''s all right Evelyn, you withstood it for nine days, then five more is nothing. Hang in there little missy'' ¨C she told herself, as she walked heavily while looking down. And of course, as the luck has it, she bumped into someone head-first. Eve looked up as she was about to apologize, when she saw a group of men blocking her way. She recognized them as player trainees who signed up for training on the same day she did. And she felt a little chill going down her spine, as she saw the way they were looking at her. She didn''t feel like that for a long time. Like animals, those men considered her only as an object of sexual desire. Memories of her beginnings as a prostitute started coming back to her, but she quickly discarded them, focusing on the situation before her eyes. - ...''a comin'' with us or we take''a with us? Your choice ¨C Eve caught the end of man''s monologue, as she once again looked at the men before her. They were typical players, with either beautified or made intimidating avatars and dressed in casual trainee''s clothes. And all were looking at her expectantly. - I don''t know... it''s going to be all of you guys? - she finally asked, trying to gain some time. Meanwhile she was thinking hard on how to get out of this situation. - What''re ya thinking of? Eh? If ya don''t want then we''ll just take''ya with us! Get... - Wait a damn second, you hot-head ¨C Eve said with chilling voice. - I didn''t say that I''m not going. It''s just that I was wondering if you lot will be allowed to have some ''fun'' with me. - After those words men started to have doubts. The guy who did the talking, and a mastermind behind the idea, went pale as he saw his minions having second thoughts. - H-h-h-hey, g-g-guys! I-i wou-wouldn''t d-do that to you! - he said, stuttering. With a high-pitched voice. - ''Bull''s eye!'' - thought Eve as she watched the beginning of a brawl. The guy really wanted to cheat out on the other guys! She waited for a few seconds, making sure that the fire doesn''t go out. When the brawl started, she made her exit. Next morning she heard rumours of the night brawl between trainees. And harsh repercussions they had to go through. - ''Serves them right'' ¨C was how Eve commented on it, as she kept on shooting her targets on the range. Hey there dear readers, it''s been some time, hasn''t it? Finally a new chapter! It''s quite short, as school started and I wasn''t really motivated on writing (lol, again!). But I''m not rushing it, and I''ve done some brainstorming on how the story will go on, and how should I introduce MC to the main plot I thought of. Expect some action in 2-3 chapters from now on. With that said, I''m going off. EDIT() { I''d like to hear your opinions and critique: what you like and what not, so that I can improve somehow. And point out my grammatical errors pretty please? I believe there aren''t many, but since I split writing of chapters onto some days, there are bound to be some. As well as loose loops. I''d like you to point those things out, as creators often miss errors in their works which are clearly visible to others because of their attachment to what they made. } // end EDIT(); Volume 1: Chapter 5 - Mission assignment... NOT Volume 1: Chapter 5 ¨C Mission assignment... NOT <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> - Trainee Eve, I have something important to tell you ¨C a female voice spoke next to Eve, as she was meditating. Looking up, she saw Victoria standing next to her. However she was surprised, as her instructor crouched next to her, as to be on the same level. Normally she would expect from Eve to stand up instead. This piqued Eve''s curiosity, as on her instructor''s face was mysterious emotion. So far Victoria never made this kind of face. - ''She''s nervous...'' - Eve deemed, carefully watching Victoria as she closed her eyes for a moment, as if gathering thoughts. Finally she opened them, and said in a quiet voice: - There is more to mana control then reducing your mana bullets'' power ¨C she let out, with serious expression. - As you get better in it, you should be able to increase power output. - Why are you telling me that? - Eve asked with a frown, and the same low tone as her instructor. - Because I can see you have great talent. And I believe that you''d come up with that on your own anyway ¨C Victoria said, as she gave a slight smile to Eve. - You know, I''ve grown somehow fond of you. Seeing you work so hard past twelve days... it impressed me. - Mhmm... - Eve gave out a sound, as she had no idea how to answer such straightforward compliment. That made Victoria chuckle a little, as she covered her mouth with hand for a second. - Anyway, I still remember how you wanted to train dual-wielding your pistols. Right now I''d like to take you to advanced gunner''s training ground. That was unexpected. Eve was caught off-guard by such a proposition, as she stayed quiet for a few seconds. That surprised Victoria as well, but it also gave her a warm feeling, as she knew she surprised Eve. Of course the heroine stood up, breaking her meditation. There was only collected expression, going along with a serious gaze, as if telling ''I''m ready, bring it on''. * * * - Trainee Eve reporting ¨C said a young woman, as she entered. The room was plain. No paintings. No decorative weapons. Only one map stretched across the white wall, accompanied by a bookshelf filled with scrolls and books. There was no carpet to liven it all up, even a little. And in the middle was a desk with a matching chair. Of course plain. Truly befitting the work room of the commander. The person who would be the first one to go and shed his blood fighting enemy army, should the need arise. Instilling fear in enemy ranks with his incredible presence. He truly was an embodiment of terrifying warrior, even without his armour. Big, muscular, bald, ugly and covered in more scars then one can count. Definitely not the person one would take for a drink. But at the same time, the number one person everybody wanted to get along with, and have close by on the battlefield. Even now Eve felt enormous pressure coming from him. She knew he wasn''t like other men. ''Powerful'' was the word closest to describing him. The room was silent, as Eve awaited his reply, looking straight in his eyes. She had to fight the urge of giving in to the pressure coming from the man, and averting her gaze. Instinct told her it was sort of a test. ¡ Finally a minute passed before Eve finally gave in and looked downwards. The room was empty, excluding those two. Commander had a habit of meeting every trainee personally one-on-one. Eve then heard a hoarse voice, as the man spoke. - Trainee Eve, was it? I have received reports of your outstanding performance during your trainee period ¨C Eve finally looked at him. He was sitting a little more comfortably, and with his head atop hands joined together. She felt as a if she was a prey, and the man before her was the hunter. - Because of that I would strongly advice you to join the ranks of Veilen''gard Military Regiment, VMR ¨C here he gave a wry smile ¨C in short. That made Eve wonder what could he dislike about the abbreviation. There was nothing wrong with it... as far as she could tell. Her mind briefed throughout all information she gathered so far, but there really was nothing wrong with it. -...on''t repeat myself again, trainee ¨C Eve got thrown back to present by the same hoarse voice as before. And the coldness she felt from it. - I''m sorry Commander, I got lost in thoughts. Would you please repeat yourself? The annoyed man made a little sight, as he repeated. - As I was saying, I will give you two choices now: either join the VRM, or complete a request made by us. Of co... What''s wrong? - he asked at the end seeing Eve''s eyebrows together. - Sorry sir, but as far as I''m concerned there was an option to pay for the training received ¨C Eve said bluntly. This fact stunned the man, who on the other hand didn''t let it show. Of course it was possible... Love this story? Find the genuine version on the author''s preferred platform and support their work! - But are you able to afford payment of 1g? - he asked, with one eyebrow slightly raised. To this statement Eve silently gave a sigh of relief, as she took out the gold coin from her inventory. Seeing it, commander only nodded his head and gestured with his hand to put in on the desk. As Eve did it, commander put a mark on one of the papers, and said. - Fine then, as of now we have nothing in common. You must return the trainee clothes to the deposit at the entrance. You know your way, right? - Yes sir. Have a nice day ¨C she said, as she gave a slight bow and turned away. The moment she reached the door, she could hear the man murmuring something along the lines of ''Marco will be so sad now...'' to which she paid no mind. ¡ The moment Eve entered the changing room, she noticed Marco standing in the middle. - What do you want? Came to peek on me while I''m changing? Or maybe change my mind? - she asked, hands on her waist. Marco only shook his head, as he showed her a hand. With a key in it. - I came to take off the suit you''ve been. Using. Thanks. To. My. Connections. - he said, accenting every last word he spoke. Much to satisfaction of Eve, who held a grudge against the man. - All right, I''m glad. Then be quick about it and leave ¨C she said. However he only shook his head. - There''s no way I would be able to take off something that''s under your clothes without seeing, right? Wouldn''t you be ashamed of being seen? - ''If I cared about that then there''s no way I would be here right now'' ¨C she thought, as she brought shocked look to her face. - Y-y-y-you bastard! Pervert! And what else did you do to me, eh? - she shouted with red cheeks, as she quickly close distance between them. Then she slapped Marco and took the key out of his hand, pointing towards the exit afterwards. - Get out of here! NOW! - All right, all right. Guess I deserved it ¨C he said loudly, hands high above his head. Then he quickly made his way out. Eve took off her clothes, opened the locks on the restriction gear and equipped beginner clothes. To her great surprise, she felt as if she could fly now, had she wanted. - ''Must be the side effect of wearing something heaaavy. I didn''t thing such a thing could be reproduced...'' - she thought, while folding the clothes she wore past four weeks. Finally she put the gear atop the neatly folded set of trainee set and took it out of the room. There she saw just an empty corridor. A little smirk showed on her face, as she headed towards the entrance she came through four weeks ago. ¡ There she saw a little line of people at the reception table, and a clerk filling in some papers. It looked like standing there would last forever, so instead of being nice and waiting in line she approached from the side and asked. - Where do I leave the clothes? - Just put them here ¨C the man said, not lifting his face from the papers as he pointed behind himself. - All right, fine. Thanks ¨C said Eve, who did as she was told. Only then did the man flinch as if remembering something, as he looked at her with disbelief. - Anything wrong? - she asked, noticing the gaze. - Nothing. Absolutely nothing ¨C he said, dropping his head even lower then before. Of course it was made to hide his red cheeks. Eve only shrugged her shoulders, as she started walking out of the complex. Only to have her way blocked by some I-am-handsome-wannabe-in-game type of guy who must have looked like crap in the real world. Not to mention his manners... - Would you like to... - he started, with something he assured was the absolute lady-killer-smile on his face. Only that Eve wasn''t your average lady who would fall for something like this. - Get out of the way. - Ohh c''mon, don''t be s... - Move it ¨C Eve said calmly, shoving the guy aside. Of course there was no way he could resist ¨C her inflated strength was much greater then some newbie''s. Not bothering to give him a second glance, she left shocked crowd of men behind as she made her way out to the city. All while planning what to do next. Hey everyone, long time no see (me)! Sorry for being lazy, but my laziness it just too big. However with a fresh mind I am back to writing - until another break of course. I hope you enjoyed. Make sure to leave your thoughts in the comment section, as well as tell me what is wrong - I shall make sure to avoid it in the future . Volume 1: Chapter 6 – Outside the walls Volume 1: Chapter 6 ¨C Outside the walls <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> The marketplace was busy as usual. Goods coming and going, always changing their owners. Everywhere a buzz of coins could be heard. Along with never ending shouts, be it advertising or a fierce barter. Truly a scene from a prosperous city. Amidst there was a woman clothed in black cape with her head covered in hood. However there was no male which wouldn''t look after her, tracing her back. Even hooded, she emanated with charm only the most beautiful possessed. Some even went as far as to track her, however in a way unknown to them they easily lost her in the crowd. They searched around, however it was impossible. Because they didn''t expect her to be a level one newbie, who attended the market for the very beginner''s equipment. - ''Clothes acquired, the same as some supplies... but why can''t I find any decent gun?! Damnit!'' - she shouted in her mind, as she bit her bottom lip in frustration. Initially she came here only to grab some mana pistol and go out to hunt at last. However she had to quickly drop her plans the second she was surrounded by a flock of idiotic lovebirds who thought she was interested in them. A good way to hide her identity was the priority. With a quick glance to the side she found just the right thing. Long, black cape was the best for what she had in mind. She quickly took it and dropped two silvers without even asking a price, then quickly disappeared in the crowd equipping the item on the run. Little did she know the cape she ''bought'' was in fact worth mere 20 coppers... Anyway once she felt even slightly more anonymous, she didn''t feel the rush. Instead, she even took her time to look at the wonders presented at the stalls. Which made her pursuers lose sight of her... However no matter where she looked she couldn''t find her weapons of choice. Two mana pistols. - What''cha lookin'' for missy? I''ve got all sorts of weapons here! From mechanical swords, through magic amplifiers to guns! And I tell ya, ''tis some REAL fir''power, unlike the crap the guy next stall has! - the owner noticed her confusion as he quickly gestured her to come closer with one hand, as the other pointed out weapons he specified. Eve woke up from her thoughts mid-sentence as she eyed the weapon stall she was standing at. However as she was about to ask for mana pistols she could hear an angry shout coming from somewhere. - Hey, you bastard! Don''t you be discriminating my wares! I tell you mana powered weapons are the thing! Even you have those amplifiers, right? Only... - the man was shouting back at the offensive remark made by the multiple weapons stall. However before he could finish what he was going to say he was abruptly stopped by Eve. - Do you have mana pistols on sale? - she asked. Actually she rushed the store once she heard the word ''mana powerd weapons''. As she was puzzled of why she didn''t notice the wares until now. But as she noticed the stall, she immediately knew why. It was very small, mere five weapons. Up until now she was paying attention only to the big ones, sure that there would be at least one of them on every stall. But it doesn''t matter now. The nod from astounded stale owner, accompanied by a gesture of pointing towards the pair of goods displayed was enough. Those pistols weren''t anything extraordinary. Some would even call them ''plain''. Grey in colour, with no engravings or anything of sorts. Really, really plain pistol with no fancy cuts or decorations. But none of it mattered. Just as one would expect from a gear with no level requirement, right? - How much are those two? - Eve asked, after looking at them. - Can I try them first? - she asked before the man could answer. He only nodded, pointing her the target on the wall 2 meters behind him. She grinned as she picked the guns, aimed and shot. Twice from each gun. Surrounding people looked in fright at the sound, however cheered right after. Bull''s eye! The training at the range wasn''t for naught. Right now Eve had 100% probability of accurately hitting a target from 20 meters. The very middle of the target ring was the size of her previous target. - ''Child''s play'' ¨C she thought. But she was very glad. She felt this was the right gun. Satisfied she asked the price for both. - 30 silver ¨C said the man. However Eve wasn''t fooled now. She noticed his slight smirk, and intuition told her it was too high. - 10 silver ¨C she said, with her right eyebrow raised. - There''s no way! You don''t even know how much of a hassle I had to go through to get them! 27 and not a copper less ¨C he said, folding his arms together. - Don''t try to fool me, you know it very well that all you had to do was to scam some amateur adventurer off of it. 14 silvers ¨C Eve retorted. - What do you know about trading missy, huh? Trying to anger me? Eh? 25 silvers. - ''Damnit, what a hard bargain he drives me'' ¨C Eve thought. - Yes I am. And I''ve met enough of your kind to know that you will try to rip off everybody. 16 silvers ¨C she started to feign arrogance, looking at the man. - Ha, then you must live inside a cave or in the wilderness! There is no way such a hones person as myself is going to act so dishonourably! 22! - How dare you offend a maiden as pure as myself?! I warn you, do not cross the line, shopkeeper! 19 silvers! - the bargain turned into an argument, however neither side forgot to put the price closer to the one they wanted initially. - So if you feel as offended as you sound then go ahead and scram! Nobody would want to deal with such a customer! - You know what, I just might do so! See ya! - shouted Eve, as she dropped 20 silvers from her hand onto the blanket protecting weaponry from getting dirtied on the ground. Then she turned on her heel and left, not even bothering to look back. But truthfully she, as well as the stall owner were grinning with satisfaction. During the exchange they got to know each other better. Eve found out that he was a man of duty and pride, and he found her trustworthy customer. And a bright one at that. - ''I really hope I won''t see you again'' ¨C he thought, following the cloaked figure with his eyes until she got lost amidst the crowd. - ''Those babies costed me 26 silvers both, you know. And to think I even gave her such a generous offer...'' - In the end the man laughed out loud from his failure as a merchant. * * * Eve arrived at the city gates. It took her an hour to get here from the marketplace, however it was worth it. As of now she had barely 8 silvers on her. The thought of spending her savings on the in-game money hurt her a little, however she knew that it was a necessary investment. With the ever rising popularity of Asgaroth Online, there was no way she would risk getting herself bound in the ranks of army. - ''There''s absolutely no way I would let them do that...'' - she thought that as she stood before the main gate. - Move it! - someone shouted and she could hear a stream of curses before something passed her by a hair''s breadth. That thing turned out to be a wagon filled to brim with goods leaving the capital. Eve freaked out when she saw it. Even through she knew she couldn''t die while still inside the protected zone, the experience was just too real. Quickly moving out of the centre of the road to the side, she was panting hard and her heart skipping two beats. - ''Too real, just too real... I never expected such things can be so real!'' - she thought, excited now. This is much more then she expected. It really is completely new world. Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences. - All right adventure, here I come! - she encouraged herself as she stepped out of the boundaries of the capital.
Warning: You have stepped outside your starting city area. As of now you are full-fledged adventurer in the world of Asgaroth. From now on your starter''s damage reduction is removed. Damage received: 100% from 0,01%
After closing the message, Eve took in a large breath. And she felt it for the first time. The freshness of air. That calming scent took over her body, rejuvenating her. - ''To think it''s even possible to re-create such a phenomenon... Just what kind of geniuses were working on it?'' - she thought, totally enjoying the new feeling. For over six years she lived enclosed in the urban terrain. Always in a town, surrounded by buildings made of bricks and concrete. Only now did she realize how much did she miss nature. - Hahaha... - she let out happy laugh, as she took off her hood and looked around, taking in every little detail. She knew she will never forget this moment. Behind her were solid walls made of stone slabs placed so neatly that there was no room, even tiniest little bit, between them. Then further right was the entrance with constant stream of people coming and going. As expected of the capital city, the Veilen''gard. However the greatest effect on Eve had the area before her. Beautiful green plains with couples of trees and shrubs here and there. She saw groups of people around them, but didn''t pay them her mind as of now. She was absorbing the majestic sigh before her, where plains slowly transformed into dense forest with mountain peaks appearing away in the distance. Eve was still marvelling the scenery, when she was approached by a group of people. She noticed that they seemed ready for adventure. And as a typical adventure party, the person leading the group seemed like some kind of a handsome warrior. Before the group reached her she only had time to notice that in the back was a bowman, some female with some kind of magic amplifier in shape of a wristband and a man with another magic amplifier, however with one wing this time. - Hey, want to come with us? We''re off to see the open level 10+ dungeon, the Howling Deeps. How does it sound, miss rouge? - he said with a bright smile. Immediately Eve shook her head. - Sorry, I just started off. Even though I''d love to come with such a company, I would only be a burden to you ¨C she said, wondering how their expressions would be like. First, warrior looked disappointed, as his smile was nowhere to be seen. Second, his eyes turned much colder, as he only nodded and gestured his companions to move ahead. Not bothering to give Eve a second glance as the team passed her. Mage-ish woman gave her the look of superiority, archer ignored her and the male magic user had apologetic look on his face. However there was nothing else he could do but follow his team-mates. - ''Ha, that sure was cold. I''m kind of glad they lost their interest so fast... But the mood sure is ruined now'' ¨C Eve thought, as she put on her hood once again. She looked at the plains once again, but noticed what would definitely be a comical sight, if not for the thought that she was about to do it as well. What Eve saw was groups of people chasing after little brown rabbit-like animals, however with bigger members. Which truly was funny, as only about one-tenth of attacks connected. The reality however went as far that the more ''tired'' you were, the more you sweated. And almost every person here was coated with sweat. Eve put her eyebrows together, as she noticed one creature on the side, currently unnoticed by others. Feeling excitement, she pulled her pistols out of holsters under coat. Carefully aiming, she made a shot at the creature with one tenth of her maximum MP. The mana bullet made a blue line as it went in perfectly straight line and hit the creature in the hind leg. The ''rabbit'' let out a sound of surprise, as it tried to run. However seeing as the injured leg couldn''t move, it crawled desperately only to move away. But it just couldn''t. Before it moved even 20 centimetres, it received another shot in the head. This time it dropped down. However Eve fired yet another shot at the creature, making it turn into colourful particle dust. Eve noticed an exclamation mark in the top right corner of her vision, as she ''pressed'' it. Before her appeared yet another message:
Loot for killing rebbit: nothing.
Notice: Dropped loot appears out in the open where the creature you hunted died. Even case the creature was airborne, which will result in the items dropping down from where-ever it was. Please mind that falling items can be damaged upon contact with ground or other matter. The loot is also free to take by everyone once they are dropped. To prevent being robbed, it is wise to take them as soon as they drop.
Eve went through the messages, however they didn''t contain anything new to her. She knew that, and also knew the fact that the message telling what dropped appeared only to the three people that were the most committed to the fight, be it dealing damage, taking damage or taking care of allies. Anyway, Eve killed two more of those ''rebbits'' before players around her noticed something strange. There was a person which was dealing with those annoying monsters seemingly effortlessly! At first they thought it was just a delusion, however watched the mysterious clocked person. Then quickly forgot since it seems like the man (as they assumed since telling the gender was impossible with the hood on) just sat on the ground, tired. However instead of recovering stamina, Eve was recovering her MP. As of now, killing three creatures took 90% of her reserves, so she had to meditate. ¡ Finally after two minutes she had her MP bar filled. As of now it took so little only because her MP was low in amount. And actually it was the first thing she planned to change by investing her Status Points, which are earned upon every level up. However during meditation she figured it would be good to try out something else. Eve lowered the mana consumption of every shot to 5%, as she went in the direction of the closest rebbit. When she was only two metres away, she shot it''s head, however the instead of fainting the creature immediately dispersed. Before someone asks me why, it was because instead of shooting at the creature blindly Eve aimed at it''s eyes. It was possible because the rebbit noticed her, looking at her with curious eyes. Because of it mana bullet had easy time ripping it''s eye and penetrating the brain, dealing fatal damage. Eve smiled with satisfaction, as she picked up a copper coin which she noticed in place of the creature. However when she stood up, her smile was replaced by a look of shock. Right now not a single person moved, all eyes placed on her. Finally the stalemate was broken by a man, as he pointed at Eve. - Y-y-you, ho... - PLEASE! YOU HAVE TO JOIN MY TEAM! - the shocked man was suddenly cut by another. However that was only the beginning. Volume 1: Chapter 7 - First dungeon(?) Volume 1: Chapter 7 ¨C First dungeon(?) <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> A week passed since the time Eve went outside the city walls for the first time. During the time there, she gained invaluable experience... no, I''m talking about numbers commonly called as EXPs, or even XPs. That day she learned that vast... no, an enormous percentage of player base was incredibly stupid. And as much as they were stupid, they were also self-centred. She knew that they openly ignored her. Especially the bigger groups, that were monopolising bigger spawn areas. Sure, after some time her looks would catch attention of some helpless romantics. That is, people who, instead on hunt, would focus more on flirting with team-mates of opposite ¨C in some cases the same ¨C sex. Those people are inconceivably annoying, and if one treats such attempts seriously, then there is only disappointment awaiting them. Not only those ''romantics'' have others on the side, they are only thinking of having sex with them and then leaving. Eve assimilates such people with lowest of trash among people. Of course, after her effortless hunt was noticed, she was immediately swarmed by players trying to get the better of her and use her ability for themselves. Eve refused them all, however seeing how persistent they were, she had no other choice but to go into more difficult hunting area. That is, into the forest. Having made up her mind, Eve sprinted in the direction of the wall of trees. Without looking back, she had no way of knowing that after displaying her speed, pests bothering her quickly gave up. They had no way of catching up. Eventually some shrugged their shoulders, returning to the repetitive task of slaughtering rebbits with teams of 6 or more people. ¡ ¡ ¡ Finally Eve was heading back towards the city. A week has passed, and during that time she encountered wolves, bats, foxes and by the end she even sighted an entrance to a dungeon. However her inventory was half-filled with various loot from the monsters she encountered. Thus, she headed towards the city. On her way back, she started encountering players from the ''rebbit fields'', but paid them no mind. Still keeping up their dignified act of ganging up on single monsters, only with bigger numbers this time, they made her want to throw up. She saw no fun in such form of a hunt. No thrill, no adrenaline rush. Nothing. - ''At least I''ll have some enjoyment in that cave I spotted... Animals were getting really boring'' ¨C she thought, crossing the city gates. Of course during hunt she levelled up a few times. By now she had level 9. Out of curiosity, she opened her status window once again.

That was an impressive feat. Considering that each level up granted players 20 stat points free to use, she decided to even out the numbers so that they will look better and was left with 100. Then she distributed them in a 7:3 ratio between intellect and wisdom, which give more mana and mana regen respectively. From the looks of it, each point in vitality and intellect grant 20 points of health and mana, with vitality granting health regeneration in a 2:1 ratio on top of it. Wisdom gives mana regeneration in a 1:2 ratio, as in 1 point in wisdom gives 2 mana per second. This book''s true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience. Of course such high regeneration was active only within cities, villages and camps. And in order to prevent abuse of camps, there were certain conditions to be made before camp was recognized. Outside the cities, recovery speed was cut by a half. Which in case of mana regeneration, was still a ton. It was justified by having to put points in wisdom. Effectively players had health regeneration per second equal to quarter of vitality, and mana regeneration equal to wisdom. Because of the way mana amount and mana regeneration interact with each other, there are two general builds of mana-based professions. First is one with huge amount of intellect, commonly called ''cannons''. Because they had greatest firepower with slow recharge time. Of course it was the most popular one, because of potions existence. Second one was wisdom-based and referred as ''machine gun''. That is because the mana regeneration of the build is so high that it enables one to fight for prolonged amount of time. Actually it was the only strength of such build. However it required exceptional skill of the user, as well as ability to focus throughout long periods of time. Then there were some people who, undecided, tried to even out the ratio between intellect and wisdom. Such people are considered as ''hybrids'' in the magic-oriented community. * * * Eve stood in front of the entrance to the dungeon she found earlier. While she was in city, nothing out of the ordinary happened. She sold loot acquired during hunt and bought some supplies in form of weak mana and health potions, as well as enough food to last a good while. - ''At least it doesn''t go bad while in the inventory... It really is useful'' ¨C she thought, while making her way through the portal. - ''Good, seems like no one made it this far...'' It must be said, that the area around where Eve entered at first glance didn''t differ much from the surrounding natural environment. The keener eye would notice more regularities, but that is all. The reason for that is the existence of fully-overgrown stone pillars, as well as stone wall embedded in the mountain cliff which was as well covered in the vines and leaves. However it was all regarding the person who didn''t spend too much time in the wilderness. If a person spent a few days in the wild, irregular forest then he or she would easily notice regularities in this area. Unless they were either idiots or people dreaming high in clouds. Either way Eve was not such a person. Of course up ''till now one might have an impression of her being ''perfect''. However one ought to know that there is no ''perfect person'', and that everybody has defects. Some might however take longer to show them, appearing only after deep analysis of their reactions. ¡ ¡ ¡ Eve was walking for a quarter now. So far nothing has happened, and she couldn''t hide her disappointment anymore. - ''Really, only this straight path heading lower and lower, somehow irregular walls and occasional stalactites or stalagmites. What a letdown.'' ¡ Because of the monotony experienced over the course of twenty minutes, she failed to notice walls darkening, as well as the corridor getting wider. Because of the ability to see in the dark, Eve had no need to learn ''Illumination'' spell which created a ball of light providing sight in dark places, or buy torches for the matter. It was one of the pros of being a Dark Elf, being able to see in the dark. Although not as well as races with total Night Vision, Dark Elves were able to see to a degree nevertheless. Because of the hampered sight, she failed to see spell engraved in the path beneath her feet. Without her knowing, she was fueling the spell as she made her way forward. Because the spell was very, very long, the amount of mana it stole from her went unnoticed. Why, one might ask. The reason is the same that it was so stretched out in the first place. To lower mana absorption at a time, thus increasing the chance of it going unnoticed. Currently it stole mana at a low, yet stable rate of 10 every second. While it was one-fourth of total mana regeneration in this place, with the pool filled to 100% there was no way it would be discovered. * * * Two hours passed since the moment Eve entered the dungeon. Of course there was no notice appearing before her. It could mean two things. First, there could be no notices appearing upon entering one. Two, and more possible, Eve wasn''t in actual dungeon. Just a passage. Those were the hypothesis she came up with, however without having entered one confirmed dungeon before she wasn''t sure. That was when she heard something for the first time other then the sound of her footsteps, breathing or clothes rubbing. Clack! Clack! Eve immediately was put on guard, each hand holding mana pistol. If someone watched her from the sidelines, one would see a calm gunner with her weapons pointing down the ¨C as she now noticed ¨C completely straight hallway. It was still made of stone, however right now walls were completely straight, with no room even for dust to catch on. They also emitted very dim bluish light. - ''Now that I think of it, I had a feeling something changed since the entrance. I guess that because of the very slim changes it escaped my notice'' ¨C she thought, as she focused once again on the sounds growing louder. Eve lowered her posture, as she slowly started heading forward.
