《Novam Vitam Meam》 ~Prologue~ He who will start a new Life -Thoughts are in parenthesis ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *Burp* "Excuse me" It was a nice June afternoon. no clouds in the sky, a gentle breeze , the sun''s warmth and a recently graduated high school student, sitting on a bench, drinking mountain dew with a ****stop bag beside him "Yup, I gotta enjoy times like this before heading off to college" Enter Robin Alteri, 18 years old, 5''10, just above average weight, dark, messy, brown hair, light brown skin, and chocolate colored eyes. "I wonder what my friends are up too" he says to himself, a trait he does often. "Must be doing something productive, unlike me...." (Heh, I''m so critical of myself) Immediately after his self-deprecating thought, he quickly pulls out his phone to check the time. Seeing 4:57, he gets up and sets off for home. During the walk though his hometown and towards his home in the suburbs, Robin takes the time think about his 18 years of life ("18...18 years old already? It came by so fast") he starts in his thoughts. ("Elementary school was easy, obviously, Middle School came by and I stared getting lazy, High School comes by and I graduate with just above-average grades. I didn''t go to prom or rather I wasted the chance to go to prom. Still single......Damn, well I''m pretty Shy and I find myself pretty boring, so being single is a given, but I''m a nice guy when you get down to it, always trying to see the good in people, and, not trying to be narcisstic or anything, I think I seem okay in the looks department) Pausing his thoughts, Robin looks around at the neighborhood he''s been living at for over 10 years. (I also don''t even go out much") He resumes. He looks at the ****stop bag he''s holding. (I just stay in my room most of the time and play games..... with the occasional roleplaying and fantasizing, not that ever tell anyone I do the later too. Despite it all, I mostly enjoyed my life so far, mostly due to my group of friends. I had a sizable group of friends, with a lot of that sizable group I''m only acquaintances with and mostly not going to stay in contact with. Heh, There''s a difference between being nice and actually wanting to know the person. Most people the meet are just being nice and will come and go, just like the saying "Friends come and go." But I don''t like that saying. I want true companions. People I can always go back to and stay in contact with.) *Sigh* (My life.... I want to live a satisfactory life, one that I''ll be happy with and going to College for a degree in teaching about history, getting a job at my old high school, getting happily married, and having 3 kids at most or 2 kids in the least. People always have the power to take control of their lives, I''m glad I got mine planned out.) Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit. After 10 minutes of walking. He perks his head up and sees his home in sight. But also sees in anamoly in the form of a sealed box in front of the doorway. He goes and picks it up while fumblling for his house keys. "Huh....For the eldest child" he states once he was finished examining the box. "I''ll assume it''s mine then since I''m oldest out of my brother and sister. Finding the right key, he quickly open the door, eager to take it easy for the rest of day. "Ma should be sleeping right now, as usual." Taking off his shoes, he heads to the cabinet for a box cutter "Let''s see here....scissors, no. Old candy, ugh....Oh! A dollar. Lucky me...Ah! Here it is. Stuffing the dollar in wallet and picking up the box cutter, he takes the box into his room. Putting the ****stop on his desk, he sets his eyes on the box. "Let''s see what''s inside" He cuts skillfully (in his mind. In reality, it was a clumsy attempt) and opens to reveal a single game for his VR system wrapped in bubblewrap. " A Game? Nolume" he says curiously, he then turns over the games case." Are you ready to begin anew? Well, that''s cryptic. Is that it? No game description on the back." (A Game, a box from an unknown sender...Who wouldn''t be suspicious? Oh well, free game) With doubt undeniably still in his mind, he goes on to insert the game and to plug himself in ("Just hope it''s fun") ~Initiating Game Launch~ (Alright, the transfer''s going well. I''m glad it''s not a long load-up unlike other games. Huh? Why does my body feel so light......Where''s the introductory message?.......Are those Clouds?.....Huh!??) He turns his body over. WHAT THE!? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! He screams as he freefalls to ground....... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A/N: And there you have it. prologue done. This story was based on the premise of my friend magiblader''s now abandoned story " Lance of Despair'' He allowed me to continue on my own terms and now here I am. Go and check his new story "Bending to my Will"." Thank your for reading. Constructive criticism is welcomed. ~Chapter 1~ A Rough Beginning Previously: *Burp* ¡°Oh! A Dollar.¡± AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! (Crap! What the hell! It just drops in right in the Sky!? Alright, It¡¯s just a game, I¡¯ll be fine. Just calm down.) Composing himself, Robin observes the ground. (Alright, snow. That should break the fall, but it won¡¯t be a surprise if it damages my health a little.) He braces himself as he aims for a large pile of snow. (Here goes¡) Within a few seconds, he fully plunges into the pile of snow. He starts to climb his way out, and emerges 10 seconds later ¡°OW! I thought when you receive damage in VR games, you get a small jolt!? Why¡¯d that hurt like hell!? He gets up and checks his left arm. ¡°Gah! My arm¡.It¡¯s broken! Is this for real!?¡± Screw this, I¡¯m getting out of here!¡± He slides his arm downward in the air in front of him, intending to open the menu and log himself out of the game. ¡°Huh? Where¡¯s the menu!?¡± He frantically repeats the same motion over and over, with each attempt being futile. Another realization hits him. ¡°No HUD either...Is this even a game!?Th-this is a joke right or hopefully just a bad dream? Please just be a dream¡.¡± He grasps his arm again and winces. This was reality. He falls to ground. ¡°N-No....No, No, NO! He punches the ground in anger. His thoughts turn to his old life. ¡°My family, my friends, and my old life...No, this can¡¯t be like that one bad anime I watched.[1] There has to be some way to get out of here.¡± He calms himself, but on the inside he remains shaken. He looks up at the sky. ¡°O-okay, the sun is nearing the horizon, it¡¯s going to be sunset soon. I should ge-Gah!?¡± He winces but not from his broken arm, he feels a sudden jolt throughout his body. ¡°AH! Damn¡what was that?It felt like something shocked me. Ugh, I¡¯ll think about it later. First, I should get going." He stands up and gazes at his surroundings. He sees that he¡¯s in a plain that was now filled with snow. To the south, he sees a trail going further down the plain. To the west, he sees nothing but white and blue, snow miles beyond and the sky meeting it at the horizon. To the east is a small canyon, also covered in snow. And finally a forest that was just in eye¡¯s reach. Weighing his options, Robin decided to go towards the forest. ¡°I can at least sleep under a tree once things get dark. I really hope this world is inhabited by civilization.¡± He begins his measly trudge towards the forest. (¡°No HUD, no menu¡ Is this a real world?... This sounds way too crazy. Stuff like this only happen in shows. What¡¯s next? Different races besides Humans? Magic? Dragons?....Flying Pigs? Well, at least I can make jokes at times like this.) This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. He reaches the forest, and is greeted by small animal moving between his legs. (¡°Was that a rabbit? At least I¡¯m not truly alone.¡±) He smiles but it quickly disappears once remembering the situation he¡¯s in. He also take the time to look at his attire. (¡°Huh, never really payed attention due to what¡¯s happened. How¡¯d my clothes change?) Robin was now wearing a black hooded cloak, a white scarf, a blue shirt with a black outline, black pants and black boots. *Tugs cloak and scarf* ¡°Cool.¡± *Pulls shirt* ¡°This shirt doesn¡¯t look like modern ones I see.¡± *Pats pants* ¡°No pockets. Boo¡± *Taps boot on ground* ¡°Not that bad looking.¡± Welp, at least I¡¯m not naked. Naked, falling from the sky, face first in the snow? I¡¯m shivering just thinking about it.¡± (¡°I hope the way I¡¯m heading leads to a town. Maybe I should¡¯ve stayed where I was, take a nap, and wait for someone to find me. Then they would wake me up and say ¡°There are better places to take a nap than on the ground, you know¡±[2]....yeah right.¡±) He takes another look at the sky. The sky is orange, indicating that it is now sunset. ¡°Time sure flies when you¡¯re preoccupied with your thoughts.¡± (I¡¯ll keep walking until it get dark then I¡¯ll find some shelter. Don¡¯t know if it¡¯d be safe to walk at night.) Throughout his walk, he occasionally hears birds flying and chirping, a few scuttles across the ground and what looked like chipmunks getting from point A to point B. (¡°This is kind of calming...If it weren¡¯t for the current situation, I¡¯d be even more soothed.) Night begins to shroud the forest. (¡°Alright, gotta find some find somewhere to sleep.) He notes a rather giant tree in front of him. (¡°Perfect¡±) He sets himself down by the tree, a small smile adorns his face, eager to get some rest from the events that transpired...but at that exact moment of peace, a branch full of snow gives way with snow falling on Robin. ¡°AH!¡± *sigh* ¡°Really!? Guess I¡¯ll find another tree but one that has no snow on it¡¯s branches already.¡± He gets up but notices out of the corner of his eye, a wooden shack. ¡°Oh thank God! See you later trees, I got a shack waiting for me to sleep in!¡± He sprints, wanting to get to the shack as soon as possible. Once there, he tests the door. (¡°It''s open! Yes! Sleep, here I come.) He opens the shack¡ only to reveal a girl already residing in it. (Huh?) The girl is shown with her back towards Robin, and begins to speak ¡°Thank you¡.¡± ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A/N: [1]: Sword art online.
