《Road to the Heavens》 Chapter 1: The new world As I lay here in the intense green grass, bleeding, to death, my mind wanders off to thoughts of my previous life, of all the blood and suffering, the hardship and moment of pure euphoria that followed. Rain seem to pouring over me, but for apparent reasons I can''t seem to see the beauty of a rainy sky, the feeling of rain washing over my tender skin, seem to be the last feeling I will have in this world. It was a cold moonless night. The sky was dark and low, the air so chilled it hurt to breathe. Already the ground was laid white with frost and any water that had been liquid under the winter sun had become ice. To my surprise images of my previous life seem to streaming inside my head, memories of my pathetic life , born in the slum, the criminal activities that followed for the purpose of surviving, the dread of seeing people suffer for your gain, and the emptiness, that viscous snake that takes a bite and never let go. A child should never be allowed to live a life of poverty , A child should never be allowed to steal, A child should never be allowed to kill, but even if those are true, ultimately I made the choice to live this way. I often felt that originally I was not a bad person, originally we are all born good, If I had a different life I would have been good, at least an existence that''s valuable. In the eyes of the beholder my existence will be forgotten, I was no one. The truth is I was a child forgotten and thrown away in the abyss of the slums. I was a fighter, I escaped the escapable, I was a thief, I was a comrade, I was a murderer, I existed, I will not forget myself even if I was an evil person, an empty person, because I was somebody. I felt at peace by my death, I finally escaped the immortal snake that was emptiness, I am me. - As I finally met my end everything turned jet-black dark, but for some reason I did not leave my body, my mind was still present, my regrets, my darkness and sorrow was still lingering. Suddenly flashes of light seemed to appear; I got the feeling of being in an incredible long slumber and someone suddenly bringing a sun inside a small confined room. A sun so bright one might actually think this was enough light to wash away all my darkness. Suddenly the form of an incredibly tall female took shape in front of my eyes, it might have been a male, the form seemed almost like it possessed no defining generic gender features, impossible to describe without experiencing it yourself. The being suddenly said with an overbearing yet archaic voice, both solemn and serene, "Do you seek redemption?" I was very tempted to instantly shout out yes, but a feeling inside me told me I shouldn''t. This feeling that appeared when I was close to killing myself, the feeling that appeared when I felt so much grief and pain that I couldn''t go on anymore. Even if it made me felt unpleasant, I finally, undoubtedly, felt feelings again, might this be a sign that I am finally returning to a humane state? I thought for myself. Humanity seem to have left me during some part of my life, the feelings were gone, during most part of my life I just continued, endlessly moving forward, similar to walking and breathing, they just continue to be done without the mind ever interfering in their path. The continuation seems to be driven by one simple basic instinct, survival, which might be the single word that defines my existence. The grief surged with my every expelled breath, always reaching higher peaks, never sufficiently soothed by my long intakes of the damp air. Tears began to spill from my helpless eyes into nothing. These feelings engulfed me as my being and body didn¡¯t emulate my commands because my mind was the only one present. Right know I was given a chance for redemption something my mind chased for many years, something that was not driven by survival, this might be a chance for me to be defined by something else, something worth being defined by. I answered with a low voice of despair, " Yes I wish to be redeemed." The being answered instantly like it was an answering machine and not something living or human for that matter, "If that is the case, you have to play a game, a game of life and death, a game of heaven or hell" I did not understand the meaning of the word said to me; maybe I have to do something to be able to go to heaven instead of hell. The word "game" put me off, even more surprising was that the sentence just spoken to me was written in perfect Siamese(Thai official language) like the being before me originated from my country, no, even the dialect was similar to my city. Even though I was surprised, I nodded after a brief moment and in a flash the being disappeared even if I merely saw a shape of a shadow, it made me flinch in surprise. - Suddenly I woke up in which seem to be a forest, I saw forest and green grass as far as my eye could see. These were not normal trees, the size was easily as large as a fifteen story apartment building, and it seems that if you somehow decided climb one of them you could easily walk from tree to tree high up in the air. The forest could be described lightly dark and foreboding, but there was peace in its sullen ambiance. My eyes flickered over the thick, dark green trunks of the trees that rose steadily into the sky, its branches interlocking with its neighbors like giant¡¯s arms linked together protecting their home. The trees were densely packed together, leaving just enough space to allow someone to maneuver through. I pressed my palm against its rough bark, and breathed in the scent of the forest. The musty scent of leaves after rainfall, the warm soil packed against the earth by scurrying animals, the scent of things in different stages of blooming and growth. The smell of life and death. The forest was teeming with it. I sent a command down my body and surprisingly rose to my feet, I felt very much alive, my body completely healed. I gazed down on my frame and could clearly see the scar at my left hand. That I unfortunately received when I unwillingly participated in a hectic knife fight. It seem like stealing was not something the store owner at my small rugged village appreciated, the apple I took might have saved me from starvation but the knife wound was permanent, and during the time of my life appearance was precious. I seriously though some agency would pick me up and make me the next Brad Pitt, sadly that was not the case. Instead I went into assassination; this is not one transition I am subsequently proud of. Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions. As I came back from my visit down memory lane, I noticed that for some reason I was completely naked. I didn''t even have underwear on me, I consider myself rather comfortable naked, but the breezes penetrating the thick tree line was cold sending chills down my spine. There seemed to be nothing around to cover myself up with either, leaves was rather hard to cover up your body with and nothing else seemed to be ideal to use in this situation. I decided to not bother looking and started walking in one direction. Since I didn''t know which direction was what, I could only hope that I would not walk in circles. The trees didn''t even seem to have any defining features, there may be some farther up in the tree which could be used for navigation but I didn''t feel it necessary to start climbing. Since there were trees as far as the eye could grasp, climbing would most likely provide more danger then opportunity. After walking what I presumed to be at least 5 hours, I stopped; my stomach seemed to be growling after one thing, food. I didn''t know if this world would even have hunger but it seems like every living organism need nutrient even if you travel across some distant world. During my early childhood I lived in a small village which actually was located pretty deep inside a forest, even if I forgot most of what happened there I used to survive on the food that the forest provided and felt that I could probably do it in this world also. But when I started looking around I realized one crucial thing, this is not earth, and therefore there were no recognizable vegetation. Except from the huge fifteen stories tall trees, there were plants and smaller trees about five meters tall sprouting in an amazing rainbow of colors. There seem to flowers covering the ground in some places, but for some reason they appear to be mostly white, maybe they are defining for this region. Since there were no alternative I took one of the flowers and put it in my mouth. I had not eaten flowers back in my previous world but I assumed that this is probably how they would taste. A grassy and earthly substance spread across my mouth, leaving only a sour feeling in its wake. At least they didn''t seem to be poisonous, I couldn''t be certain of this fact either though; they might come back later to claim vengeance on my stomach. When thinking of these things I took a couple of more and forced down my throat. The flowers seem to have satisfied my hunger for now, but it seems like a safer alternative would be to widen the search range during my next meal. After taking a brief break I continued to walk in what I presumed to be the same direction that I have walked along since coming here. As I strolled down the path the vegetation seemed to decrease a bit as the path which I walked along became wider. I could grasp and experience my surroundings for the first time, what I saw almost made me fall over in surprise, there seemed to be a lot of small animals present, which couldn''t clearly be seen when I was traveling through the small path between every tree branches before. There were some who looked like squirrels but smaller in stature and in a blue and white color, beetles of all different colors could now for the first time be seen crawling around the tree branches, there were also some larger creatures, looking like over grown cats. Fortunately it did not possess the ferocity or the killing intent of a tiger. In actuality nobody of these animals was appearing rather hostile towards me, maybe I being nude made them though I was some kind of jungle man, could it be that the movie Tarzan had finally been scientifically proven. After me standing there for a minute observing, one of the cats walked up to me with a proud look on his face. Surprisingly the cat was giving me a big and wide smile, on earth I have never seen or heard of a cat smiling. With the creepy smile on his face the cat proceeded to intimidate with its body language, seems like it wanted to show its superiority over me or my race by flashing what could be presumed muscles. In response I went down to my knees, the cat seem to think that I did this in submission and continued to walk closer to me. It suddenly showed eyes of someone that looked at a prey just before it would consume it. Omnivores that was what I concluded at that moment, this creature was one and he would now proceed to eat me. When the cat reached arm length from me, I looked to the ground; I spotted a rather large stone, took it up in haste and smashed it against the cat¡¯s skull. The cat died instantly. I don''t consider myself an animal hater, but survival is and has always been my true color. The other cats suddenly got angry and proceeded to jump around screaming, but more like an ape then a cat, this world really is different and weird. I changed my gaze from the dead cat to the now raging cats and they suddenly stopped and stood still, turned around and left. I showed them the gaze of a killer, the gaze and cold face that my employer often commented on giving me a dangerous presence. I took the cats body on my shoulder and continued my journey down the jungle path cutting my way through the dense, suffocating undergrowth which had appeared, fighting through the very air, which hung heavy, moist and still. Trees tall as fifteen story apartment building surrounded me, and a strange green light - almost holy - shimmered through the vast canopy of leaves. The forest seemed to have an intelligence of its own. Its voice was the sudden screech of a bird, the flicker of a monkey like creature swinging through the branches overhead. After what felt like another 5 hours I suddenly heard something, and it was not the sound of the birds or the crackly sound of the trees moving even so slightly, not the sound of animals running around, no this was real speech, words could be heard, words of a human being, Or so I thought. Chapter 2: The bull I haven''t seen someone alive for at least 12 hours, which might not seem a lot for some people, but walking in solitude through a jungle in an unknown world, without knowing anything, can take its toll. Luckily I am and has never been one of those, I was always in solitude, suffering and fighting myself, and it never bothered me or so I thought. As soon as I heard the voice my body suddenly started running towards it. I ran trough hard jungle veins which seemed almost impenetrable before, this might have been the effect of my motivation pushing my body forward, I can''t be certain. When I arrived at the origin of the voice, I was so shocked I actually fell to the ground this time around. What I saw was a campfire and by it was an humanoid bull, A man very large in height, I would presume at least 2 meters tall although he was rather skinny, from his head 4 horns were sticking out from every direction, on his forehead he had what seems to be a tattoo of an eagle, his eyes were red as a rose, but the entirety of the eye had sparkles of red instead of just the iris, more like he had gone through the largest bag of marijuana in all of history. When he saw me he too fell to ground, a second later he suddenly bursted into laughter and from what I observed he had not a look of surprise in his eyes, no, this was just the eyes of someone truly happy, he continued to laugh for a second then he suddenly said, "Rather small manhood you have there, creature." And continued to burst into laughter, I couldn''t stop myself from mimicking his actions and also started laughing, mostly since his appearance to my eye looked rather funny and the way he laughed just, well, spread. What a liberating feeling, I haven''t laughed in years and now I am lying on the ground laughing together with some wierd yet comforting being. We continued to laugh for a couple of second more until we suddenly stopped and just starred at each other. " My name is Muto, I come from the planet of Irue, a pleasure to meet you naked man" I didn''t really know what that meant but I come from the planet earth so I should probably say that, "Hello Muto, My name is Fey, I come from a planet called earth, but why are we stating what planet we are from? what is this place?" "Ohh yeah, you are naked, you must have just arrived, am I correct?" "That is correct." "I presume you met a being that asked if you wanted to redeem yourself?" "That is also correct" "That funny looking being, Well this world is from what I have collected a place where everyone from this universe travel to after they met with death, or at least if you agree to redeem yourself" Without really thinking I answered, "Hmm is that so" Muto took up what seemed like a cup from the ground and drank and then continued, "Redemption seem to be a very vague term around here, because different planets have different rules, it might be that everyone comes here if they choose to, it seems only those who feel they need to be redeemed agrees to travel her. Redemption is a funny thing, it assumes different meaning in different places." I quietly nodded in response. Muto looked like he was in deep thought for a second and then continued with, " Well enough about that, this so called game is a rather cruel thing, to actually win the game and go what is presumed to be heaven you must ascend from this world into another, almost like climbing a ladder, but with worlds as its steps and at the peak of the stairs, the final world, the final destination, heaven." I was confused as hell at the moment, but from what I gathered from Muto it seems like you have to climb worlds like a ladder until you reach the final destination. Without really thinking I said, "Then how do you ascend to the next world?" Muto showed a grim face and said, "Well actually there is said to be a number of ways to ascend to the next world, but people don''t seem to be very enthuastic in sharing how, there is actually only one way which with certainty works." Muto kept quiet for a couple of seconds so I continued to say, "Well, tell me, what is it?" "How do you think I knew about world ascension or even that you can ascend in worlds in the first place?" I thought for a second and answered with what seem to be the most logical solution, "Someone who did told you?" "That''s right, everyone who ascends can descend to the previous world or worlds, and they can even lead those who are below them up." "That''s the power those people hold, those people are usually unfair and dirty, climbing almost always comes with a price, be it you entire fortune in this world or your soul itself." "What''s funny though is that even though these people have power to lead people up the stairs, to the next world, what truly rules this world is not that privilege, no in this world, strength is everything, were no laws have been forged, those who hold power forge them." This book''s true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience. "Isn''t that really interesting? in my old world we had old wise people to rule us, now you can be as powerful as you want" Muto continued to laugh while drinking some more from his cup. I suddenly realized a very daunting truth, in this world were strength is everything, there is probably more advanced races than the humans, both in weaponry and overall physical strength. Seems like in this world your previous life do have impact.Sadness fell over me as I realized that this was probably a world where I once again will perish, once again a world where I have been born under wrong circumstances. Muto could see the trauma in my face and quickly added, "Well you don''t have to be sad, millions of races decided they were not meant for ascending this world and settled all around the place, it''s actually not bad, age seem to be irrelevant here, you could settle and live a decent life. But those who are weak, gets pushed around, trampled on, you should probably prepare yourself mentally." My thoughts suddenly turned a bit brighter as I realized that this is not earth, there must be other means to prevail in power, other means to survive, and with a little luck I might really be able to at least redeem myself in this world, not in the view of god but in the view of myself. Mute realized the change in my eyes, and started to grin a bit. I never show my emotions in my face but for some reason Muto is able to read the movement in my eyes and make reasonable assessments of my mood. Maybe this is one of the powers his race possess?. I thought about asking him for a moment, but when I thought about it I realized I had asked plenty and it was time to repay him. I took a look around, I was especially looking for the cat that I brutally stoned to death 5 hours earlier. For some reason it didn''t seem to be close by, until I realized I probably dropped it when I was running over here. "I will be back, I just have to get something real quick" "Sure, take your time creature" Muto probably forgot my name or he prefer to call me creature, Well it never bothered me in the past what people called me, but the name creature suddenly reminded me of Golem in lord of the rings or some other creepy movie character. "Please call me Fey." "Yes, Creature Fey." Hmm, intelligence level 500? I quickly ran and grabbed the cat, when I returned Muto saw the cat and gave me a big smile. "Creature Fey, I love you" At least the bull knew how to show affection, after I thought that I immediately regretted my decision. Muto fell to his knees, as he went down on that mush forest floor he opened his mouth and started licking my toes. I tried to too keep calm but ever since I arrived to this world my emotion seemed to be overflowing, this might because the revelation I had before I died, well who knows. "What the fuck are you doing?!?" "I am showing my affection, this is to initiate friendship, at least in my tribe." "Please stop doing that, this is not something I enjoy...." "Owh, but it feel good on the toes doesn''t it" For some reason it felt kind of good, this was not a tongue of a normal human being, no this was a bull man from the planet Irue''s tongue, and for some reason he made my toes very warm. But this is to weird and to uncomfortable, I don''t think I would like a man to like my toes in the future. "Get your tongue of me, now" He instantly removed the tongue and showed a glint of fear in his facial expression. "Friend, you have a very dangerous vibe about yourself when you get angry." I guess the face that scared a lot of people in my previous life have come to be useful in the next. "Just cook the freaking cat, and let''s forget this ever happened!." "Yes, Creature Fey, as you wish." During the meal no one of us said a word, we were both in euphoria, the cat tasted really good for some reason, maybe this was Kobe beef, the afterworld style, or there might be food even better, the possibilities in this area seemed endless. Suddenly Muto looked with a big smile on his face and said, " You know what there might actually be a way for people like you to become powerfull!" "How?" "Have you heard of something called, magic?" Previous Chapter - Next Chapter Chapter 3: Death Magic, as soon as I heard the word, my mind started lingering off. Memories of seeing the blood of a person you have taken life from, you didn''t just take him from the world, you took away the persons present and future, and the blood that followed, that once magical substance. Seeing the path it would take, the color it would be and the pure amount it, at first this experience was so traumatic it really felt unreal, it felt like magic. Reminiscing about these memories surprisingly made me feel sick, something that never happened in the past. Killing and stealing the constant cycle that did nothing to me in the past, was crumbling down my defenses, I might actually start crying. Remorse was something that I had no luxury to feel, life and death was as told tied as one, people all around knew it, people accepted it, it was part of life. Remorse, it seem like I am on my way to redemption. As I thought that my mood suddenly turned for the better and I started to think about the possibilities of using magic to overcome my inferior physical strength. I never trained my body much during my time in the slums, mostly because you didn''t have the luxury to indulge yourself in such activities. I was although an exceptional marksman and I was even more confident in my use of knives, but to eliminate a target the main thing you needed was neither of those, creativity and guts was what differentiate amateurs from professionals. The guts to end someone for eternity and the creativity to be given that opportunity. I never considered myself a professional though, I was payed for killing someone only a handful of times, no, killing was more of a tool in survival, when you live in a world where it''s kill or be killed. I wonder if I can find my brother in this world, might he also been given the chance to be redeemed. Muto seemed to realize that my head was currently in a bit of a turmoil and said, "It''s really an amazing thing, that magic, it can even take people to the sky, or at least that is what I have heard, hehe" As I saw the small grin on Muto''s mind and the second mention of magic I returned to the present, thinking the past is the past, this is now, the future is ahead. As soon as I thought that I continued to eat my grilled cat monster. Muto saw that I continued to eat and was smiled slightly before continuing, "Sadly I don''t know anything about this thing called magic, it seems to be originating from another world, but everything that can be used there seemed to be apply over here too." I suddenly came to a very obvious realization that for some reason I didn''t think about before, "Muto, how can we communicate with each other? You speak my language, which is very odd when you originate from another world is it not?" "Hmm, you speak in my language for me." With a surprised facial expression I asked, "I do?" "Yes" It seems like we understand each other''s language in this world, or that we translate it in our mind. For some reason I didn''t feel surprised at all, if there is magic, something like this should surely be possible. This game is a such a waste, a world where everyone can understand each other wouldn''t that be a peaceful one ?. But sadly in every world there is both darkness and light, the same seems to apply to this world, I thought to myself. Never the less, to be able to redeem myself or at least to survive I need to learn this thing called magic, as soon as I realized that I knew what my next question should be, "Muto where does one learn of this magic?" Muto scratched his head for a while and took another bite of that incredible cat meat before saying, "There is one city where a race with good knowledge of the magic settled down, there is probably more cities down south, but I have never traveled there." Geographic position, right this is a world, there should be directions, "Oh yeah I forgot to ask, where are we now?" "We are in what can be called the north part of this world" The north is a vast forest, that''s probably an correct assessment, "Is the entire north covered of this big forest?" "No, this is what has been named the forest of endel, it was named by some creature named endel who once ascended here without the help of others, that''s why I came here." Muto took another bite then continued, " This is located in the middle of the north, if we go north from here we come to the vast plains followed by the mountains of Cerckel, west is the swamps of Mat group, east the flying lands of Motle, south is the passage to central continent which is presumably guarded and taxed by some powerful being in the central continent to bring money in" By the naming of the different things it''s pretty clear that these are location people have ascended without the help of someone that has already have done so. But naming a whole part of a continent after these people must make them and everyone who have ascended that way incredibly famous, "Is everyone that ascended that way regarded that high?" "I think they are just the first to do so at least as long as people can remember, plenty of people have left on their own." "Owh, plenty then it doesn''t seem so special." "By plenty I dont mean that many of everyone that has ever come here." Plenty not that many?, what is this confusing bull/cow implying, well he is only one man I can''t expect to find out everything about this world from one single creature. "So where is this city where these magic race have settled down?" "I heard it was in the north part of the region close to the mountains of Cerckel." "Heard?, haven''t you been there?" "Owh little creature, this is a vast world I don''t have time to travel everywhere." "Even though you said time is irrelevant here" "What?" "Nevermind." It''s decided then the best possible way for me to survive here is to travel north to this city where presumably magicians live. The uncertainty of the matter left me feeling uneasy. I don''t have much of a choice in the matter, to survive I must be able to fend my own in this world, I must be able to at least be able to live without being pushed around. As I finished thinking about it I should probably not ask Muto to accompany me, he went here for the sole purpose of finding something, he probably will not want to help a stranger travel to a far off land and to top it all off he didn''t seems very interested in acquiring, magic. "I will take my leave then, thank you for everything, you don''t seem to possess a weapon will you really be able to survive out here?" "Oh creature Fey, what a thoughtful being, Don''t worry Muto''s fist can crush stone" "Aha if that is the case, bye" I picked myself up, turned around quietly and started walking in the opposite direction, as I was about to disappear out of sight, Muto started yelling, "Hey Creature! stop!" I slowly turned around and saw the 2 meter high Muto running against me, but this was not a speed possible for a human being he was easily moving as fast as moped or a leopard, not as fast as a moving car but still way above the human standard. Seconds later he was standing before me not even tearing a sweat and with overall perfect condition, "Creature fey is rather weak, It''s the stronger mans duty to escort the weaker one out of the forest at least." I was pretty confident in fending of animals myself, but after seeing this monster running over here I started to grasp the power that the creatures of this world could possess. If ascending to the next world was based solely on strength I could imagine, the beings could be considered gods if they arrived on earth. In my head the decision was already made if I don''t take help from Muto I might even die before arriving outside this very forest. "Muto I would be very grateful if you could help me outside this forest of endel." "No problem Creature Fey, It''s my duty." It seems that habitants of the planet of Irue possess great sense of duty, or maybe Muto is just an outcast in that way. We looked at each other and nodded in unisons and continued to walk in the same direction I was currently heading in. As soon as we started walking, I was surprised how big of footsteps Muto took, as I had to take at least 3 footsteps before he even had to take one. "Is everyone from planet of Irue this big?" "I am considered to be a member of one of the smallest tribes, some tribes have double my height." Creatures looking like Muto but twice as long come streaming in my head, his race would certainly be called giants if those ever walked the earth. As I was thinking and walking I suddenly felt breeze, yes that is right I was still not wearing any clothes. As I looked at Muto he was wearing what can be considered shorts together with a t-shirt but not a normal one, it was of black leather more like a skin jacket but thinner. Muto seems to be noticing my intentions with looking at my clothes and asked, "Does your race were any clothes?" "Yes, usually, well if we mate we do not and if we are some deranged person we might not either." "Creature Fey, are you a deranged person?" "In some ways, but I don''t prefer being naked." "Is that the case, I have some pants for you then." Muto put his hand around his back and took out a bag which has been hanging on his waits back side strapped like a belt to hold it up. After a moment he picks up an identical pair of shorts to the one he currently wear, black with 2 pockets. I inspect them for a moment and I with certainty say these are too big for me, I have two choices though, stay naked and go around freezing or put on these looking complete retard, the choice was simple I put them on. Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation. As soon as I had them on they suddenly fell off, I looked to Muto and he was laughing slightly, he waited a moment then pulled out a belt. I took the belt and strapped as hard I could and we continued walking. We walked for what seemed like an hour, I had no need to talk and it didn''t seem like he was the usual talkative type either. I could see that he wanted me to speak to him but I hadn''t bothered until now, but the glares were getting a bit uncomfortable. "Muto, what were you doing before coming to this world?" Muto suddenly showed a bright smile on his face and spoke with confident, "I was the town head hunter in the second biggest village in all of south Irue, the town head hunter has the responsibility to look over every other hunter so that we all get meat on the table." "Owh that sound like one important role." "Oh yes I had over 1000 hunters to look after, it was a big responsibility, I was a great and important man in my previous life!" "Women came flocking to lick my toes every day, I had the most licked toes in the village" I was about to crack out in laughter but I didn''t this was probably something they were where proud off in Irue, he then contiued, "I was also responsible for my tribe surviving one hell of a dry year, all the aruyik animals in the area had left for safer mating but I took the hunters and tracked down them, and brought home lots of food." "You must have worked hard to get that important postion." "No, it''s a little different in our world, the elders decide your mission the day you are born." "Then you were quite lucky to be born that way" "Yes, and in this life I will make all the females lick my toes also, but I haven''t had much luck yet, very strange." "Yes its very, strange" Muto, a hunter no wonder he runs that fast. I knew what world this was and why one was sent here so my next question was obvious, "If you was such a great man why did you end up here?" "Well actually, I had this female, who licked my toes the best, once you decide that the female is your partner you cannot lick other peoples toes, I broke my promise." "That''s is the regret fullest moment in my life, what about you creature Fey?" "I was a surviver, which in some cases meant doing bad things." Fey''s Perspective Muto seemed troubled for a moment but decided not to continue asking anymore, We continued to walk for a couple more minutes and something unexpected suddenly jumped down from one of the trees above us. Before my eye now stood what seemed to be 4 people, all of the same race it seems or at least that was what they appeared to be in my eyes. Their skin as blue as the ocean, big in stature from head to toe, at least 3 meters tall, if one thought Muto was big he was not much in comparison, they seemed to currently have pants on which would have been funny if that was not the same in my case. All of them appeared to be male, or at least none of them had any defining female characteristics, what I am implying is that they had no breasts. For some reason all of them seemed bald and they all had what appeared as blue eyes. One of them took a big step forward and was beginning to initiate speech, "What are you small people doing in this dangerous forest?" They just said that Muto which is above 2 meters is small, I am 1 meter and 75 centimeters in comparison, which would probably make me a midget in their eyes. If we are speaking about eyes these creatures were showing a lot of hostility towards us in that part. I took a peak at Muto and could see that he was a moving his feet in what seemed to be a battle position. He then suddenly spoke up, "We are going north out of this forest, so could you let us pass?" The three creatures behind the one who was currently speaking suddenly started laughing pointing and whispering between themselves. After whispering a while the blue one was once again about to speak, "If you want to pass that will cost you" He then took a breath and thought for a second then spouted out, "Should we say 2 crystal coins?" I have no idea what to crystal coins was worth in this world, so I looked over at Muto his face was pale and he seems to be actually sweating. 2 crystal coins seems to be quite the amount of money, in this world, I will have to find out if we manage to survive this situation. Muto seemed to collect himself, collecting courage and said, "We do not have that kind of money, you can have 3 silver coins is this agreeable." Not just the 3 in the front started laughing but the one in the front seemed to start also, it was a laugh of a wolf barging with a sheep, they had the advantage and they knew it. I look at Muto and he took what looked like some kind of martial art position, probably getting himself ready to fight. The blue being in the front collected himself and said with a sharp tone, "Then we will loot of your bodies" The expression he wore though was not consistent with what he said or so I thought, Well I will probably die here might as well take one to hell with me, As soon I said that I readied my mind, This opponent will die. I thought for a second and said what came to my mind, "I guess we have to kill them." I bowed over to the ground and picked up the sharpest stone in sight, I slowly stood up again. For some reason, the creatures didn''t seem to have any will to fight, in their eyes they were already thinking of retreating, what I saw shocked me so I looked up at Muto. The glare he was giving me was like someone seeing a ghost but he also had such ferocity in his glare. It was hard to describe but it was a glaze that I haven''t caught before As I changed my eyes back to the blue creatures they were already retreating, half running in the opposite direction, It was almost too pathetic to watch. They must have seen the ferocity in Muto''s face and that powerful warrior stance he was making, and thought he was to powerful to mess with. I owe this man my life, "Thank you, without you I would have been dead by now" Muto''s Perspective As soon as I asked Creature Fey what he did, he seemed to make a grim expression, I understood there and then that It was not worth asking more about that. We continued walking a couple of meters and suddenly 4 new creatures jumped down from the tree tops, these large creatures I know them from Fariz town east of the forest, these are the Asura race, known for being ruthless robbers, taking everything from a person. There is no mistake that height and that blue skin it is certainly the Asura race. When I looked over at Fey he shows no expression of surprise, he is inspecting the creature like it is a animal, just like him, I have almost seen no emotions from this creature, but his eyes, those kind eyes, they are telling the truth of his face. One of the Asura tribe men seem to be stepping foward, maybe we can negotiate out of this?, I have heard Asura battle strength is pretty high and I can''t fight 4 off them even if I was an amazing hunter. "What are you small people doing in this dangerous forest?" I am small compared to them, but fey is a very little creature compared to them, he must be scared. I have to speak up to appear strong, it is the duty of a hunter to always appear strong. I need to initiate battle position first though, "We are going north out of this forest, so could you let us pass?" They are laughing, this is not good they might bring some out insane terms and then force us to pay in some way. "Should we say 2 crystal coins?" 2 crystal coins?!!!, One can buy at least 4 houses with that kind of money how can they possible think that we that kind of money or they might not want money at all, can it be that they are playing with us?, I have 3 silver coins on me maybe that will be enough for now. Please work. "We do not have that kind of money, you can have 3 silver coins is this agreeable." This is bad, They are now all laughing, they will probably attack, I need to prepare myself. Isusi battle style will probably be the best against creatures this big, I must protect Fey, will I be able to? I am shacking how can I even protect myself let alone fey. "Then we will loot of your bodies" Owh shit, we are screwed, should we run?, no they will catch us, think, think, think I must protect creature Fey it''s the duty of the strong. "I guess we have to kill them." What is he saying, but when I look over at Fey, the warm hearted boy is nowhere to be seen, the kind eyes, gone. Before my eyes is something else, something extremely dark, that face, they whole aura around him, is itching to kill the creatures in front, how can I feel that killing intent too such a degree, how can one want to kill someone with such passion.. As he goes down to pick up a weapon I look up at the Asura tribe, the look in their face, grim, can it be that they too can feel that killing intent?, but they are far away how can it be? They seems to be running, creature Fey, you truly are scary, that face, why does death reflect in your eyes. "Thank you, without you I would have been dead by now" Why is he thanking me, Was I even needed here? Chapter 4: Marius Muto seemed to have saved my life, once again, I was saved by someone else, this started to remind me of the time my brother used to save me, 3 years younger and still had the inner strength of someone three times my age. Multiple times in situations of life and death he would remain calm, I was often wondering if we really were living in the same world. Where I saw darkness and despair he saw darkness and opportunities, It wasn''t until his death a year later that I could relate to his way of thinking, I swore to myself that survival was crucial and despair and fear was unnecessary and a hindrance in the path of survival. Honestly the realization was not the thing that changed me, the death of someone very close too you eats you up inside until your whole existence is consumed. Your thought''s, your passions, your desires, all disappears and become one single constant, determination. Determination to survive, the cruelest of worlds and fighting the darkest of darkness. I left my thought''s in the dust and looked up to Muto, the expression in his face was still present, It was either surprise or the face of pity. Since I was never any good at reading people I couldn''t tell. We can''t stay here at least, they might return with greater numbers fuelled by revenge. I calmed myself and looked over at Muto, "Should we go?" Muto who seemed to be dumbfounded faced towards me and just nodded, We continued to walk in the direction I suppose we were heading in the first place, I didn''t have to confidence to ask Muto, his mind seemed to be in distress and interfering could prove fatal. Making enemy of a monster who made a large number of even bigger monsters flee for their life seemed rather unwise. Even though that''s what I thought it seemed like, Muto noticed that I quite frequently looked over at him, like someone who just had to ask a question, but instead it was Muto who spoke up first, "What was that anger you emitted over there, Creature Fey?" The question was not something that I expected and I turned to Muto in surprise, "Huh? What do you mean?" "Well, It seemed like you were very angry during our encounter just now" "No, not really, well, they were enemies that wanted us dead, Isn''t it common knowledge to want to survive" "Wanting to survive, huh, I don''t know if that''s the normal response" "Hmm, It''s like in my world, you cannot fight darkness with light" Just as the words left my mouth, Muto''s face turned from surprise to doubt, In my mind that way of answering seemed rather valid, but obviously we are not from the same planet, maybe things are different there. "Huh!?" "How should I explain it, hmm, In a world where there is no happiness and darkness is present around every corner, you use it fuel your determination, I suppose" " Creature Fey you think wrong, I had good parents, even though I betrayed the one who was the one and only toe licker, I lived a life surrounded by light, don''t you agree?" "Maybe that''s the case" Even though my situation was nothing like Mutos, I was not a person who liked to share what I have experienced with anyone, even though that was what I thought, I spoke up: "Muto, If you would have to decide between your own survival and killing the one who was dearest to you, which would you choose?" Muto''s face seemed to turn grey, maybe this was a difficult decision whatever world you were part of, I could see that this was not something pleasant for him to answer, " I won''t decide, I would never end up in such a situation in the first place, Creature Fey" "Hmm, yes, I mean if you decide to die you don''t live anymore every possible future you would ever had would disappear, and if you decide to survive you won''t be living a life worth living" Muto seemed to have flown deep into thought, I didn''t seem to be affected, my mind was steady, empty and strong. We continued to follow the forest path in silence, the sound of birds could be heard everywhere. the life of the forest was once again astounding me. Forest of endel, a truly alluring place to venture around in. Just as I slowly focused my glaze further up the magnificent trees I caught a glance of something moving at far, by the look of it about 50-100 meters away, by the movement I could definitely tell it was the fastest Creature I have laid eyes on since my arrival in this world. I gave Muto a quick punch on his shoulder and pointed in the direction of the unidentified object now standing as still as possible. Muto also turned his gaze and looked in the direction, his face still and collected, my mind though went into turmoil of the thought of another bandit. But this seemed to be only one creature and even if it''s size was enormous the strong Muto could probably take care of it. The creature seemed to glaze over here but I couldn''t possibly tell if it was directly looking at us from this distance, not only the distance but there were also a bit of forest vines in the way. Muto stood still and just observed, I didn''t feel like he was ready to fight this creature. "Foe or friend?" "Depends" The creature suddenly dashed towards us, in mere seconds it stood before us. The creature in front of us was even smaller than me, the psychical features was entirely the same as a human male, could this possibly be one?, Muto looked down and seemed to put on a small smile, "Hey, little one what are you doing out in this forest?" "Hello nice you meet you, I am Marius of planet Token, I venture in this forest in search for food and other stuff, the small village of Nikt is located just outside of the forest of Endel and is need of supplies." Token huh, not Human then I guess, this kid looks exactly like one though, just more like a Hobbit in the lord of the rings, could this be frode?. Jokes aside he didn''t seem to be hostile, and Muto was smiling as well which was definitely a good sign. The kidness could clearly be seen in his eyes, this was probably not an enemy. Muto who seemed to be smitten by the small boy''s toes, I mean one can assume that was what he was starring at smiling in an odd manner, didn''t seem to talk back so I took the initiative, "Hello Marius, it''s nice to meet you as well, I am Fey and this weird looking bull is Muto, I apologize in advance if he tries to lick your toes." Marius started laughing a little and answered, "I am well familiar with Irue tribes customs, but I can''t say I am a fan of the initiation of friendship, haha" I smiled too and answered quickly, "I would have to agree" Muto seemed to be rather frustrated by the conversation that was going about and gave out a small shout, "Hey!, The Irue tribes customs are not something to take lightly, and toe licking is very pleasant if you truly let go" I couldn''t hold myself and started laughing, Marius seemed to be doing the same, Muto just started for a second and then also put on a big smile. "Well Muto, Fey, Would you do me the honor of helping the small village of Nikt to gather supplies, especially food but some healing herbs would also be good." Muto looked over at me and nodded with a small smile, I nodded back. Helping someone in need was a sure way to at least regain some remorse, climbing out of darkness one step at a time. In response I answered "Of course Marius, Maybe you could teach me a bit about these healing herbs they could probably come in handy when we decide to travel onwards." "Yes definitely, they are actually rather easy to spot, but there numbers are rather small even in a lush forest such as the forest of Endel" "Oh and food wise me and Muto recommend the Smiling Cat or what you call them, they are especially good." "I will definitely agree with creature Fey, those things were really good." The thought of having those cats again was truly intriguing as soon as I had spoken my piece my mouth almost started watering, the power these smiling cats had over my mind was truly frightening. The smiling cat the first monster I encountered in the forest, my first meal, my first kill, they truly held a precious place in my memory. By the look on Muto''s face he seemed to feel the same. "Sorry those smiling cats, are way to small to feed the village, we will need to go north from here and try looking for much bigger prey" I really didn''t think that sadness would actually struck me for the loss of a smiling cat meal never the less it did, bigger creatures, than those cats, I haven''t witness many bigger once yet. "How much bigger are we talking about?" "I would suppose about Muto''s height and larger" I felt like a living question mark, fighting creatures bigger than Muto for food?, Why would we do such suicide mission for a small village, maybe Marius have a gun stashed somewhere. "Can we really defeat these big monsters, do you have some kind of weapon?" The one answering was not Marius but Muto it seemed, he spoke up in confident, "Little Fey, during my time as a hunter I chased and killed animals 3 times my size, not to worry, my superior intelligence destroys all" "You, Intelligence, huh who would have thought." I probably spoke to quickly, the face in Muto now made was truly terrifying, could this be the end of me???! "You guys are truly funny, haha" "But yes Fey it''s as Muto says it will be no problem, I may not be big in size but I am actually a renown supply hunter in my village" Renown in a small village, doesn''t show much confident, I was never a coward but I would not attempt something if my survival rate was not high. Well two relatively powerful hunters by my side would really skyrocket my survival rate though, "Well let''s move then" Both Marius and Muto nodded at me and almost flew of to the north, I also started running since that was both of them was doing, in mere seconds Marius was out of sight and Muto also far away. Muto seemed to notice I wasn''t around him, he turned around and looked over at me, ran to my side, and just causally picked me up and threw me on his back and continued to run. How humiliating.... Seeing forest disappearing in my face truly reminded me of ridding on a moped, the wind in your face and the world flashing you by, the speed I was travelling was truly terrifying, this speed could easily match a leopard, what was even more terrifying was Marius. Marius was way ahead of Muto and had to stop from time to time in wait for him to catch up, How could one possibly travel at that speed with such a small body, I was never a physicsenthusiastic but I could clearly tell this was not something possible in such a small body on earth. This world was truly a terrifying place, the possibilities endless, A normal race from one planet would certainly be revered as a god on our planet. Muto suddenly stopped and put me back on the ground again, the reason was that Marius had stopped and looked at a yellow flower, this one I had seen before when travelling with Muto, the colors so bright it might be the color of the sun more then yellow. The beauty could clearly be seen from far away, even if most of the forest of Endel was truly beautiful this flower stood out. "Fey, this is the healing herb I was talking about, the beauty is intoxicating isn''t it?" "Yes without doubt" "Well, you don''t eat the actual flower instead you do this" This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.Marius pulled the beautiful flower from the ground, and from under it a big amount of roots appeared even larger than the actual flower in it self, he pulled away the flower and just held up the root, "If you cook this root over a fire and drink the content that comes from it, most injuries will heal, not instantly but much faster" "Even though age is irrelevant here, I suppose one is not immortal" "That''s nonsense, we do age here, even if it''s slowly there are still people who die by age, who told you that?" A bit of anger took flame inside of me as I glanced over at Muto, he didn''t seem bothered and just smiled and said, "Well the powerful Muto can''t know it all." Marius instantly started laughing, not very loud but a bit of sound could be heard, seems like Muto had another talent except fighting, maybe he could scare away the blue Asura tribe with a joke next time. "So how slow does one age, is there even time of year here" "Well, we all have different time of year I suppose, and I don''t know much about your home world, but our species live 5 times as long as we usually do." "Okay but if 1 moon and 1 sun is one day, and a year is 365 of those how long would you live?" "Hmm, my tribe about a 1000 years then." Aside from his insane math skills, 1000 years could clearly be considered an eternity, I would never have wanted to survive that long in my old life, that hardship a 1000 years, no death, death was a release. But if my average is about 80 I suppose I will be here for around 400 years, I finally have the time to redeem myself. "But Fey back on the topic of the healing herb, I would not recommend shopping of your arm, limbs doesn''t seem to regenerate" "Shopping of my arm is not something I would have done anyway" "Some have done that though" "Those people don''t seem very bright" "Well, I suppose." As soon as he said that Marius started taking out flowers all around us, removing the beautiful flower and ripping lose the roots, the flowers numbered close to a hundred and the pile of roots he had set up started to steadily grow, Muto caught on and started helping and so did I, In mere minutes the pile was complete, It was actually as high as Muto and much wider, one couldn''t possibly be able to carry these all the way to the village right? Was what I thought, but before I could comment Marius took of the small backpack from his back and put it on the ground, Marius was currently wearing full leather clothes, brown in color almost shiny like they recently have been polished. As I stared at his attire he noticed and started inspecting me as well, he laughed a bit and began to speak, "Those pants, haha, Would you like to borrow a full attire?, I don''t think people will take those pants to liking when you enter the village?" Marius was continuing to laugh a bit as a he put his hands down the backpack and took up a pair of long silk brown pants and a black silk t-shirt, he then continued to throw them over to me, "You should wear these you strange fellow" He was clearly enjoying himself, I couldn''t blame him, I looked really strange in the common view of things. I stripped naked and put on the clothes, as I was changing I noticed the pile of roots was clearly a lot smaller all of a sudden. I was dumbfounded but it appeared as he was stuffing all of the roots in the small backpack he earlier took of his back. Marius looked over at me and Muto who were both sitting there in total cluelessness. Muto spoke first, "What is that Demon backpack?, that dark magic, get rid of it!" Marius again started chuckling a bit "Relax there is no demon power present, this is a magic backpack from a city near the Mountains of Cerckel, It can hold 1000 times the amount of a normal backpack, every hunter in the village of Nikt have one" The Mountains of Cerckel, could this possibly the city that I am currently on the path to, as I thought that I looked over at Muto, he who for the most part was usually very collected, at least to a degree was drooling, the drool was overflowing from his mouth. Muto spoke up, "Muto, want that!" "Haha, If you are a hunter of Nikt you will get one, but you have to be qualified though." "I was the best hunter, in my village, people come from far to lick my toes and....." Muto continued to give a speech of his great conquest of acquiring food when the village was close to starvation, and about of all the toe licking.... Marius continued to laugh most of the time, "Marius about this magic city, near the mountains of Cerckel, is it easy to get too?" "Yes, relatively, it is currently the 3rd biggest city in the northern part of this continent and therefore have quite the amount of trade routes leading there, why? are you going there?" "Yes, since I am weak I want to learn magic" "Owh, that''s a good plan, it''s not as simple as it sound though, becoming a magician requires you to already be a potent magic user, It may sound strange but the magic city receives millions of applications every year, and therefore only accepts the talented" "This world is rather rude to the weak, the strong rule, the strong make the rules, I am sure Muto have already told you though." I hesitated for a bit since I was in a bit of a flunk being told this horrifying truth once again, with surprise the one who spoke up was Muto, "Creature Fey don''t seem very intimidating, but when he is angry, he can appear truly dangerous" The words lifted my spirit, even though I knew these were just to make my mind at ease, I was never a quitter I will not surrender in this world or the next , I am and have always been a survivor. Marius continued to pack roots without a care in the world, he most likely caught onto Muto''s lie and decided not to question it any further. Soon the entire root pile was put down in Marius bag, he turned towards us and spoke up, "Well we should hurry, I need to be back in 2 days to make my supply report." 2 days, Muto and I looked at each other and could finally remember that we were hungry, due to the sudden events we didn''t really have the time to think about those things. We both sat down at the same time and starred of in the direction of a small creature in the far distance, this creature, this food pleasure, this smell, It''s no other then the smiling cat. Muto turned to Marius and spoke up, "Creature Marius, We have not eaten in quite a while" As he said that he continued to stare in the direction of the cat, If I had to guess it was about 100 meters from us, and there appeared to be other smiling cats lurking around it. Marius put on a smile and looked towards us sitting on the ground, "Of course, food is important" Smiling he put his hand in the backpack, suddenly he drew a bow from the backpack, the wood not something of earth, it was black but shining, truly an awesome looking bow even though the appearance except from the color was rather average. He pulled up two arrows put them in position and fired, in an instant, the two cats 100 meters away fell to the ground. Both me and Muto looked at each other in surprise, both thinking the same, that terrifying AIM, let''s NOT make this guy our enemy. Before we knew it, all of us sat by the fire eating the delicious smiling cat, both me and Muto were truly hungry and could not talk, we were consumed by the taste of the cat, that ecstasy, it was truly heaven on earth or this world... When we were done eating, I couldn''t keep my eyes open for some reason, I was too tired to even tell I was going to sleep. Sleeping something I haven''t thought about since just know seemed to take over and consume me, a consequence of the flowers previously eaten maybe?. As I went into deep slumber, I was sure I was going to be consumed by dark nightmares, waking me up in a fluster. But nothing came, I slept, and nothing seemed to bother me.... "Heeey, Fey, Wake up!" I opened my eyes and clearly saw Marius face, he was smiling like always, that hobbit face was really comforting for some reason, like he had no problems in the world, like he was a light in an eternal darkness. I flustered for a bit and spoke up with a sleepy tone, "yes, what is it?" "Good you are awake, Actually you slept for quite a while me and Muto have been out hunting a bit while you were away." "Owh really?" As I looked around this was definitely not the place that I woke up at, the trees were clearly different, they must have moved me to a new position. Marius seemed to notice my questioning look and turned towards me and spoke up, "Yes we moved you a bit, you are currently about 10 minutes from the village" "I was moved and I didn''t wake up?" "Yes Muto was carrying you but for some reason you didn''t wake, you must have been super exhausted" "Yeah it seemed so" Must be those flowers.. Suddenly Muto came flying over from the trees, carrying what seemed to be a big horse under one of his arm, probably even bigger than himself, that he could move that thing that was heavier than himself was truly terrifying. As soon as he saw me he put on a big smile on his big bull face and spoke up, "Yeah!, your not dead, that''s good!" Muto... "Well that is one way to respond, I guess" As soon as I spoke up Muto handed the horse to the small Marius who continued to pack it right into the small backpack, the experience couldn''t be described with word, It was by all means truly, a weird sight. Marius looked over at me with a questioning face and spoke up, "Hey, Can you walk?" I was by all means well rested, sleeping this much was not something I have done in my entire life. "Yes, I feel very rested" "Good then lets head towards the village" As we started our walk, Muto started spouting about all the dangerous and big monsters he had slayed, all from huge dinosaur looking creatures(In his words) to smaller and more agile wolfs. The whole time Marius was laughing a bit, which gave away the truth, these conquest were probably a bit over exaggerated, defeating 1000 large wolfs seemed, well, a bit much.... As we were closing in on the small village Marius who was walking in the front turned around and looked at us, this was not the face of the normal Marius, no the seriousness in his eyes could clearly be seen, "Fey, Muto, as you all know this world is ruled by the strong, my village have a system commonly used all over this world, and it might be a bit hard for you" I focused my gaze on Marius who was doubting himself and said, "Continue" "Well, the village have a so called caste system, you gain citizenship level depending on your strength and since you are new, you will treated a bit harsh, be ready." Both me and Muto looked at each other and nodded, as we continued walking, I fell into thought, a small village wont treat people so bad, this will be okay, I continued to reassure myself until we reached the edge of the hill we were currently on. What I saw was not a small village, Nikt had wooden houses as long as the eye could gasp and there were life everywhere. I looked over at Marius and said, "Small, heh?" "Yes, A million citizens give or take" Yes, small..... Chapter 5: The Royal Of Nikt Wooden houses could be seen as far as the eye could see, and between them streets of different sizes and connecting them were town-squares packed with living beings, most likely used for trading of goods. There were also small alleyways connecting the bigger streets, which kind of reminded me of the infrastructure of most modern cities from earth. Life seemed to be sparkling everywhere, I was to far away to see their faces but their forms were all different, races from all over the world had gathered in the wide and tight streets of Nikt. If not for the size of the wooden houses, this might have been mistaken for an actual human city. The 5 meter high houses conveyed the impression of an oversized rural village more then a big metropolis. Nikt did not consist of any walls, which made it seem welcoming to some degree. The architectural style was close in resemblance to ancient China or Japan. Even if most houses was constructed in this architectural way there were some oddities among them, tents and other kind of simpler housing were spread out at random among the more beautiful constructed wooden houses. Even if all the above mentioned facts were astonishing, the most remarkable fact was clearly the pure size of the city. The mass of houses didn''t seem to have an end as far as my sight could grasp, even if I was very confident in my eye sight during my previous life, no human could possibly see the end of this village. Among the beautiful crafted houses were some which in compression were at least three to four times as large, they were both higher and wider, more decorative and more eye catching, they all conveyed a feeling of power, so in summary small palaces overlooking the affairs of the commoners. As soon as I saw them I forgot all about the mere size of the village and was consumed in the quest of finding the answers to their existence, ¡°Hey Marius!, what are those big buildings which are settled around the village?¡± Marius who just a moment ago had explained that this city obliged under a caste system looked over at me still as concerned as before, ¡°Those are the homes of people who process great power and influence in the city, most of them are Counts or High Templar¡¯s.¡± Muto''s face suddenly did a complete turn around from a grim expression to a big smile, ¡°HIGH TEMPLAR! That''s one cool title, with my strength, Muto will surely become one¡± Marius mouth turned into a small giggle, which now seemed to be his normal response to Muto''s rambling. My mind wandered of to the meaning of these titles and the power bestowed with them but before I came around to state a question Marius opened his mouth, ¡°Well Fey, Muto, Let''s ascend this hill, I need to make my report to city officials before the sun sets¡± As soon as he was done talking he leapt downhill in his ever amazing speed, and before we knew it he stood before one of the houses leading into the village. Me and Muto just continued to stare at the village, the site was clearly breath taking, it seemed like this was not something usually seen even in Irue, and now was our time to clearly take in the view. After about a minute, Muto slowly started ascending the hill, silently singing two words, ¡°High templar, High templar¡± This was clearly a sign of obsession, who would have thought that he didn''t even consider the powers that came with the title and just obsessed over the name of it. The intelligence of the people of Irue was a mystery to me... Before we knew it both of stood before the same house Marius was at and already there we could both witness the amount of different races present. Only in the proximity of my own eye sight were at least 5 different races everything from living horses to more hound like creatures, there were also 2 races that clearly resembled Humans except from a couple of abnormalities such as different ears, bigger legs, smaller torsos and larger heads. Marius which also clearly resembled a Human being brought up the question, ¡°Marius, why does almost everyone I have met resemble my race so much?¡± ¡°Hmm, this form seems be God''s ideal form or at least the state that evolution has brought most races¡± Muto seemed annoyed and spoke up, ¡°My race is definitely the superior appearance¡± ¡°That can be argued, Muto¡± ¡°Fey, you should see the women of my race they are indeed stunning¡± ¡°I can only imagine, my dear bull, Muto¡± I could hear Marius giggling in the background. When I turned around and faced the village again Marius had already entered between two wooden houses trough a small alley, as me and Muto followed trough we came to a big street about 10 meters wide with people wandering across and along its path. Conversations of different content could be heard everywhere, the mere tightness of the street made it hard to breath. I was used to wandering around cities but the personal space one held in this street was clearly bellow what I was used to. I had to narrow my eyes to the fullest to be able to locate Marius in the masses, and following him and the street was even harder, because every now and then you would come across creatures almost 3 meters in size and bumping into them could clearly be fatal. I always thought that my size was abnormal in this world but it seems like it was rather normal around here. Most of the people were my size and even smaller, there were ton of dwarf races walking around about half my height. The norm of appearance definitely was around the human look but with small alteration in different areas of the body, everything from pure height to the size of their feet. The people of Nikt was clearly well imbedded into the society and were comfortable to follow it''s norms. The feeling of different races transporting to another world and not fitting into the new world was not conveyed in the masses of the street, even if most people seem to hang around there own race there were still different races chatting and interacting. The more larger citizens of Nikt did seem to have some kind of an assumption that we should carve a path for them because as soon as I had walked about 100 meters along the street I bumped into one, ¡°Hey!, watch were you''re going you tiny insect¡± Pure red anger could be seen in the giant snake looking gentlemans eyes and confrentation was not ideal in this situation, ¡°I am very sorry, please forgive me¡± Even if I did apologize he picked me up by the neck of my shirt and threw me 3 meters to the side of the street, I have never been airborne to this degree before, which made it satisfying to some degree. As soon as I landed on the ground I thought people would react and look at me but for some reason no one even noticed. The use of violence, could it be normal in this type of society? As soon as I looked up I saw Muto, the look in his face, furious, ¡°Hey Fey, Who threw you?, I will personally make this person pay!!¡± ¡°Let it go Muto, I was not injured.¡± ¡°That doesn¡¯t matter I will eat him, where is he?¡± ¡°Please Muto, Let it go¡± It wasn¡¯t that I was not angry, I just didn''t think it was worth the time of finding this individual and punishing him because every second we lingered Marius disappeared farther into the masses of people, as in assassination, one must always focus on the target at hand, distractions can be fatal. A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation. ¡°Muto, we can''t lose track of Marius, Do you still see him?¡± ¡°Tss, well yes about 30 meters that way¡± ¡°Okay good, lead the way, without him I think we will probably get lost here¡± Muto strolled towards Marius presumed position and I close behind. Both me and Muto knew that if we really did lose track of Marius finding him in this mass of people would be almost impossible so we both almost ran up to him until we both were about 1 meter behind him. ¡°Good that you are catching up heh, getting lost here is not recommended¡± ¡°Definitely the amount of people here is just, amazing.¡± ¡°Haha, well to an outsider this is probably very shocking, you should see the market squares the amount of people there is well above this.¡± ¡°I can only imagine¡± We walked tightly close to Marius for another 100 meters before we took a sharp turn into a slightly smaller street, were the amount of people was tremendously smaller. We could for the first time see the edges of the street, there were tons of stores selling everything from strange looking food, mostly fish looking creatures and rice, but also furniture and other necessaries. As I turned my head the other way around I came upon something that was a bit shocking to me, something that I have clearly seen tons of times in my own world but was confused to see here as well. 5 people of the same dwarf like race was kicking and punching on a even smaller child looking creature, the blood were gashing out from her nose and arms, one of the dwarf was clearly cutting her with a knife. I looked for another second and then continued walking on, Muto didn''t seem to stomach it the same, he stopped in his tracks and went over to the dwarfs staring them down intensely, ¡°Hey, leave that kid alone, or else I Muto will kill you were you stand!¡± One of the dwarf stepped forward and spoke up, ¡°Hpmh, this girl violated the rules of the caste system and it is therefore in our power to punish thy¡± ¡°I don''t give a crap about that, move or die¡± The dwarf suddenly started laughing, ¡°hahahaha, I can see that you don''t have the citizen tag on you, which means you are an outsider?¡± ¡°Yes so what?¡± ¡°Then by the authority of the crown, we have the right to kill you, but if you injure us in anyway you will be hunted down and captured.¡± Both me and Muto were clearly confused, they have the right to kill us? Muto spoke up out of instinct, ¡°I don''t give a shit about you laws, Muto is the law, and you will perish¡± Muto stepped closer and was ready to punish the dwarfs in the name of justice but as soon as he walked a step, Marius ran right before him, ¡°This man is under my protection¡± The dwarfs continued to laugh in unison, ¡°I am Marius, and have been given the title of noble therefore I have the right to execute you here¡± Marius took out what seemed like a metal seal showing the dwarfs at the same time that he spoke up, the dwarfs saw the seal and were all in shock, ¡°I am sorry, Lord Marius, we will take our leave, deepest apology to you Muto¡± As soon as they were done they took up there backpack on the floor and continued to run down the alleyway. Muto put on a big smile and just laughed, ¡°How pathetic that they are afraid of a little man such as yourself Marius, haha¡± Marius started giggling as always and turned around and faced us, ¡°They are not afraid of me, they are afraid of the citizenship seal, bestowing me the power to punishing everyone under my current title, pretty good thing to have¡± As soon as Marius was done, Muto took care of the girl, picking her off and taking her to a nearby store to buy the healing herb that I had myself made just a couple of days before, when she had drank it she could, after 10 minutes, stand up again, she thanked Muto and Marius(But not me for some reason) and took her leave, Muto who felt responsible for her well being started following here but both me and Marius pulled him away, claiming that she would be okay and what not. Before we knew it we had left the slightly smaller street and entered yet another larger street and the amount of people was by no means smaller this time around, as we pushed our self through the masses to arrive at about the center of the street Marius turned left and continued walking. Walking among this street reminded me of the feeling of walking around at a carnival, the personal space violated and the constant pushing, and your attempts to dodge people to easier follow the path. As I was pushed between a very large pig like person and a slightly attractive human looking girl with a larger then normal mouth, sound suddenly started emerging not to far away, these were drums as loud as a big marching band, strolling down a street. As soon as the drums sound was heard people started panicking, everyone rushing from place to place, and me who did not have clue what was happening was pushed around like a football at a soccer match. It was without doubt full chaos as everyone was running around, almost like they were trying to find their place in an orchestrated flash mob. Before I knew it most of the people were now packed to the side of the street only me, Muto and about 10 other people were stuck somewhere in the middle, it was almost as they have left a human path for the ones coming with the drums farther down the street. Both me and Muto looked at each other and then decided to follow the lead of the people, as soon as we were at the side of street like the rest of the masses, everyone started getting down on their knees. I had no idea what this was about but I had no choice but to do the same or get crushed by the people doing so. As soon as everyone around me was down in a pray or beg like position, the sound of the drums came closer. This spectacle was clearly even more amazing then a person seeing people praying at Mecka in the islamic religion. The pure amount of people praying and leaving a small path in the middle of the street was truly an amazing sight. For some odd reason the air pressure was getting stronger and stronger as the drums approached, the drums were at least 100 meters away but it was already hard to breath. The drums came closer and closer and the air was becoming even heavier at an increasing rate. I could finally grasp my eyes on the sight that had haunted my breathing ability for the last minute, and it was by all means hauntingly beautiful. In the middle of the road two, four meter tall giants walked smashing down on a huge pair of drums, and just before them, the most beautiful women I had ever witnessed strolled, her red eyes, so mysterious and hauntingly beautiful it would clearly pierce any man, starred into the horizon. She clearly resembled a human except for those, eyes. It didn''t seem like her beauty was only apparent to me, people from everywhere gazed at her. As she had walked away I turned over to the small elf looking man beside me, ¡°Who was that?¡± ¡°Arael, the royal princess¡± Chapter 6: The Priest The beauty of the princess left most of the surrounding citizens crippled, It wasn¡¯t until the princess was out of sight and the sound of the drums could only faintly be heard that people left their crouched down position. The chaos had returned, people from all over the street once again pushed and shoved to follow their path, making smaller species such as myself struggling to keep up. As soon as I picked myself up, I could clearly grasp the view in sight, for some reason a cluster of people were still lying face down in the dirt. The amount was certainly in the tens as far as my eyes could observe and as I stood there examining expecting them to pick themselves up, time passed, resulting in no apparent movement. I could no longer hold in my curiosity and therefore walked over to one of the nearby citizen to observe further, the result was indeed shocking. The small dwarf looking creature had no pulse, since the arrival of the princess this pitiful creature had perished. When I looked around people didn''t seem to bother by the fact that this man had just died and in the middle of the street for that matter. Instead I got glances of disgust from the surroundings viewing the spectacle, this feeling that I felt many times in my old life once again came to the surface, You are something that is disregarded and disgusting therefore do not appear in my sight. ------------------------------------------ Darkness is everywhere in this small alley, not even the lights from the main street can reach this far into the darkness, the dumpsters that is close by smell of faeces and the never ending rain continue to pour down. The cold bites down with it''s clutches far and wide across the body of the meager child lying next to the polluted garbage bags. Hunger in it self seem to devour the child''s last fortitude, the mere fragility of the child''s body makes him appear more like a ghoul or skeleton then a human being. The dirty ground continue to contaminate his already filthy body and the never ending rain continues to dissolve the muddy streets, steadily forming what can only be described as quicksand. As the mud and rain increase to the level were it''s about to enter the mouth an old man enters the alleyway, most likely on his way home from work. As soon as the fragile boy spots the man he gathers his remaining strength and crawls trough the mud up to the old man, grabbing on to his legs and musters up the only words he have the tenacity to educate, ¡°Please, Help me¡± The mans first expression is one of shock, but seconds later it turns into one of disgust and anger, his mouth is open, his eyes ones of tigers, he collects himself and musters up a sentence in a loud voice, ¡°Get the fuck off me, you disgusting brat¡± As soon as he released his anger at the young child he forcefully releases the foot that is currently being tightly grabbed and then continues to kick the child in the stomach furiously screaming, ¡°Die already, you dirty little monkey¡± After the man released most of his anger on the fragile child, he turns around and dust of the dirt from his pants and then continues walking down the tight and dark alleyway, muttering the words, ¡°All these disgusting little brats, why don''t they die already¡± As soon as the man is out of sight the small child proceed to cough up blood, the red substance combines with the brown mud and begin to mix up into a mysterious texture, flowing down the alleyway. The only thought that was left, ¡°I must survive here, I refuse to die like this¡± ------------------------------------------------ The memory was streaming down my mind, but I did not feel sad because that was a happy moment to remember, a moment that made me stronger and if you can''t survive such an ordeal, you do not deserve the gift of life. ¡°I need to get going¡± As I picked myself up and was about to leave, I noticed something rather strange, the body did not have any signs of trampling neither did any of the other. These death was obviously the work of something else or someone else, there were no wounds and there was no sign of blood, a truly weird death. The first thought that came to mind was poison, but it wouldn''t be possible to poison about 15 people simultaneously. I was continuing to stare at the body when a man suddenly appear right in front of me, ¡°Hey hafling, carry on your buissness it''s the peacekeepers job to disregard of bodies¡± The man was wearing a dark robe, had brown hair and dark eyes, his skin was almost green but otherwise looked mostly like a normal human being. He was at least 3 meters tall but still possessed a rather slim body for that kind of height, the expression he carried was more of someone that was annoyed then angry, which made me feel at ease. The many violent encounters that I had come across since entering this world, made me much more cautious not to upset someone, but this guy was not angry and which in consequence granted relief. As I was about to answer back in apology someone tall appeared behind me, ¡°Hey your are not messing with Fey are you, otherwise Muto will put you in place¡± The black robed fellow annoyance suddenly turned to anger but before he could express himself Marius appeared right behind him, ¡°Sorry, these two are new please forgive their rudeness¡± The once angry man saw Marius and in consequence released his furious facial expression, ¡°Okay, but if they disturb official buissness again there will be consequences¡± ¡°Of course, carry on with what your are doing and I will talk to them¡± As soon as Marius said his part he just walked over to me and Muto and proceeded to pull us away not furiously but with enough strength to actually pull Muto. When we had forcefully been pulled a couple of meters, he let go and continued to walk down the crowded street like nothing happened. Muto and I just looked at each other, both thinking, what the hell just happened?. I had to find out about this black robed fellow, the curiosity was already consuming me after we had walked for about 1 minute since the incident, Marius didn''t seem angry at least not from the back, so the consequences of asking was probably not harsh and Muto seemed like he also wanted to ask, since his mouth had continued to twitch in an odd manner. I ran up to Marius, ¡°Hey, who was that black robed guy?¡± ¡°He was a peacekeeper¡± ¡°Peacekeeper?¡± ¡°Yes they are the official soldiers of Nikt, they act as guards to withhold the laws of the king and well, disposing of bodies¡± ¡°Guards huh, there isn¡¯t a king for nothing I guess, withholding a small amount of laws is probably good if he wants the village to blossom¡± ¡°I agree, but they are mostly useless and arrogant for that matter, acting like they have power, when they don¡¯t¡± ¡°Well they are under the king and therefore bear his protection, I don''t think people would mess with that, we had similar things called police in my country which had authority to uphold the laws and they were useful to some degree¡± ¡°The king huh, we recently changed king in this village actually, the old king was strong and powerful, no one thought anyone could overthrow his reign for at least a 100 years but one day one man entered the village, walked up to the palace, slaughtered all the royal protection and the royals and declared himself king.¡± Muto was itching to get into the conversation and could not help himself in answering, ¡°Then the new king is one powerful warrior and his guards are under good protection, The almighty Muto would like to fight this man and declare my self the king¡± As soon as he was done talking I had to intervene, ¡°Muto you are missing the point that Marius is making, if one man can overthrow a kingdom by himself, the guards power become useless¡± ¡°Your very smart Fey, good answer, yes the difference in fighting abilities in this world is massive in comparison to our old worlds, here you can combine the knowledge of strength of different races and some races are just stronger then others.¡± Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. ¡°If a giant got the chance to steal something valuable from an ant, of course he would proceed to do so, the guards aren''t that strong by themselves and instances of theft and murder appear everywhere.¡± ¡°Since the king can''t intervene everywhere, how do he expect to keep order?, well he doesn¡¯t therefore making the duties of the peacekeeper mute¡± Strength truly was an important factor in all this, if a race of godly proportion compared to humans ever appeared on earth, they wouldn''t oblige to the rules of society, they would set the rules and rule over all. ¡°Marius, doesn¡¯t that make the powers granted by the caste system and the titles also become mute in consequence?¡± ¡°Yeah to the strong, the weak has to oblige by the laws of the strong but the strong are bound by none and form the path for those who are weak, strength in numbers don''t matter here, I mean how could ants revolt against a giant? Haha¡± Marius was smiling, almost like he had a long time to think about these things and was obviously proud to present his findings, proving that he was not only easy going, but also a deep thinker. As Marius had presented his finding we arrived at one of the palaces that I earlier had seen from the hill that we ascended to arrive at the village. Seeing it from the front was truly a remarkable sight, the mere amount of decoration¡¯s was truly eye catching, everything from big pillars to beautiful statues of what seemed like great warriors. The entrance was a big wooden door which could easily been placed in front of ancient castle, the wood was not green or brownish like in the human world, but instead pitch black. Marius turned around with big smile on his face, ¡°Well this is my stop, I need to report to some people here, let''s meet back here in an hour?, It was nice hanging out with you so I will show you around town after this¡± ¡°Haha, Everyone likes the great Muto, you can lick my toes now if you want!¡± Marius big smile suddenly turned into a straight face, ¡°No thank you, see you Fey¡± He turned around, picked up his bag he had thrown on the stone pavement and walked towards the beautiful building. Muto turned his heard towards me with a big smile on his face, a creepy one to be honest, ¡°Hey Fey, Let''s go drinking!!, they have very tasty alcohol in this world, almost like the smiling cat, haha¡± The mention of the smiling cat and a drink that could compare put water in my mouth and made my mind almost go blank, but I really wanted to explore town by myself before getting the official tour by Marius, ¡°I am gonna walk around a bit see you here in an hour¡± ¡°Your so boring Fey, drinking is good, come here¡± I didn''t feel like confronting this anymore so I turned around and proceeded to walk down the crowded street, before I knew I was shoved along it''s path and was probably out of sight in Mutos perspective only after a couple of seconds. As I strolled down the main street, I spotted tons of merchant''s selling all kind of different food, I was hungry but didn''t have any money so I quickly put the thought out of my mind. The wares sold was most cloth and other materials used to keep yourself warm, the weather wasn¡¯t very cold but I could imagine there being winter in this world and the usefulness of it then. The constant screams of merchant was becoming rather annoying only after walking for about 10 minutes, the constant chatter between people wasn''t that loud so it didn''t bother me, but having a merchant yelling directly into your ears was rather annoying, ¡°Buy the warmest clothes here¡± ¡°Buy the best alcohol in all of Nikt for a cheap price¡± ¡°Come and have a taste of this brew, it will make you look younger¡± ¡°This potion will make your hands bigger¡± ¡°Come and buy weapons and armor of the finest quality right here, survive your travels in style¡± Some potions and brews had some rather odd effects, alchemy was clearly on a whole other level in this world. The design of the clothes was clearly different everywhere, the influence of a ton of cultures was combining and setting some rather odd trends, having big hands seem to be one of them. I couldn''t bear with sound anymore so I continued to run along the street, after a while I stopped, I had arrived at yet another one of those palaces that could be seen from the hill before entering Nikt. The decorations was once again very pretty with giant statues of godlike proportion illustrating a women begging before a round eye like form. The only difference was that that the house was in a white wood, but what drove me to finally walk over there was not the decorations but the quiet aura it was emitting. It was quiet, no sound of speech could be heard from the outside, was this my chance to finally find a moment of peace in this loud village?,I had to find out. As soon as I was inside I instantly knew what I just entered, this was without question a church. There were statues illustrating a giant hydra battling with a small gnome, the hydra was facing him and response he hold up an eye looking thing, like he was warding off evil. This statue was in the very back of the church, in the front and all they way to the front was benches, and to the sides podiums probably used to preach the word of the religion, the roof had decorative roses spreading across everywhere, almost like thorns that were after you. After inspecting the interior I walked over too the nearest bench and sat down. Before I knew a brown robed lizard man sat himself beside me, he was what could be assumed some kind of priest. ¡°Hey young man, amazing interior isn¡¯t it?¡± ¡°Hello, yes it''s amazing, indeed¡± ¡°First time coming to a temple of Kuruzor?¡± ¡°Yes, if you don¡¯t mind me asking who is this Kuruzor?¡± ¡°I don''t mind at all young man, Kuruzor is the protector of the weak, the eye in the never ending darkness, guiding us, always¡± Religion was something I hated in my previous world, where were god when I was starving to death? Where were god when I was about to die? Where were god when my brother died? Where were you? ¡°That seem stupid, the weak are suffering all of this world, where is the Kuruzor, this protector?¡± For some odd reason the priest didn''t react like I wanted him to, instead he smiled at me and answered back, ¡°Kuruzor was actually someone who lived in this world a very long time ago, he was once a small gnome considered the weakest among his peers, but he never gave up and eventually came upon a power that ruled over others, but he didn''t abuse his power, he helped weaker people ascend this world in the hope of creating a better world, in another word a truly great person.¡± ¡°Kuruzor is actually not considered a god for the Order of Kuruzor, he is a belief, a belief that there is hope for the weak, because if there isn¡¯t hope how do we have the power to live on?, his stories provide hope of self improvement and gives us the courage to continue.¡± Disappointingly enough the answer did seem to make sense, making this priest feel uncomfortable would have been a lot nicer, but the answer was kind of settling to some degree. The priest noticed that I was troubled and spoke up, ¡°Young man, I can see that you are struggling with the curse of being weak, the sect of Kuruzor offer training for the weak for the purpose of self improvement, you can start if you are intrested!¡± Without even thinking much I answered, ¡°Yes, please teach me¡± The priest put on a big smile and answered back, ¡°Good to hear, I can not promise you will improve that much because it all depends on the individual but we can certainly teach you, for a price¡± ---------------------------------- Chapter 7: No potential and the citylife Haven''t written a chapter in over 2 months, the reason I was to lazy(To be honest) but then I realized I really like writting(Yes abit odd).... So from now on about 5 chapters a week, and in case people hate it I would love to hear your advice. I really want to improve my writting for real :p. Oh and this is NOT PROOFREAD, will do corrections tomorrow morning. ------------------------------ The lizard priest last sentence, -a price- made my head muscle twist in thought. It''s meaning was without doubt something with grave importance. As my gaze once again wandered across the statues of godlike proportion, ¡±What price?¡± The priest mouth turned into a coy smile as his eyes sparkled with excitement. Another customer reeled in, success!, was the thought that came to mind. ¡±It''s nothing dangerous or anything like that so you do not have to worry¡± The coy smile turned into a bright one, revealing the unbrushed sharp teeth hiding under the skin of the kind looking lizardman. Most people would without doubt feel hesitation creeping into their mind, but I couldn''t get myself to resist. The appearance of the statue had imbued me in it''s mysteries, the gnome defeating such a big hydra was without question a magnificent and compelling scene. If I just by meager means could grasp that power, I would undeniably be able to live a life of comfort; I would be able to survive. ¡±Can''t you just tell me what the price is?¡± The lizardsman smile turned into a normal stabilized face as he spoke up ¡±I cannot, it might seem suspicious but we are a church and wouldn''t dare hurt our dare citizens¡± ¡±The reason is that people usually accept this training knowing what they will have to do in order to receive it.¡± He paused for a moment before continuing in a sour and sad tone ¡±But as soon as we are done with the small training we do, they either leave completely ignoring our deal, or tells us that this was completely useless and that they are not willing to pay any price for it¡± ¡±The mystery of not knowing seem to peak the interest of those training, which in turn makes it easier for us to have them keep their word¡± Shameless, Shameless..... People even decide to rip of the church in this world. The meaning of church although might hold different meanings in different planes of the vast universe. Where some might follow them blamelessly, some might hate them dearly. The experience was varied and it was therefore hard to judge. ¡±I understand, I will keep my word.¡± Even if I was by no means an honorary citizen of my previous world. Ripping off the church was too much; when I was starving they would sometime give me both food and shelter. The gaze on those priestesses as they gave their all to help the decaying human race, hope reflected in their eyes. The lizardman seemed more like a business man in this case, but they most likely had kind people in their ranks as well. The lizardman turned against me with a wide and kind smile on his face ¡±Good, I am called Jake around here, may I have your name kind sir?¡± ¡±I am Fey¡± As I stared up through one of the beautiful decorated rose windows I noticed the sun had moved some since entering here. ¡±I almost forgot, I have to be back and meet some of my friends in about 40 minutes, could I come back and start my training after?¡± Jake frowned as he turned against me ¡±These youngsters always in a hurry to go places¡± He smiled slightly before continuing ¡±The first test will not take long, about 20 minutes I think, do that first and you can leave after, deal?¡± ¡±Test?¡± I said slightly startled ¡±Nothing to worry about just a quick assessment of you current power¡± Jake said as he rose from the bench walking into the doorway to the left. As I followed we went deeper into this palace like church, the deeper we went into building the prettier the interior became. Paintings betraying a gnome heroically fighting against an array of monsters could be seen hung across the white wooden walls. There were chairs along the hallway which seems to be at least an century old and beside them tables with matching appearance. On these ancient tables stood both heroic statues and old looking artifacts, everything from a crystal ball to small dolls. It felt almost like you had entered the palace of an old arch mage. As we went deeper we finally arrived at a medium sized dojo looking room. ¡±Fey, take a seat here as I go grab some things¡± I sat down without question and in just a minute Jake returned with needles, a glass ball and several pills. Could these be drugs? Does he want to rape me?... Jake could see the worry in my eyes. ¡±Haha, don''t worry these are just some normal tools for assessing power. As we of the church are not that well off we can''t afford the more pricey tools. Never the less these work just as good, but can be a bit more uncomfortable¡± He said as an evil little smile came across his face. This priest was undeniably not the conventional priest you hear of in stories.. As he took a seat beside me he started pressing these needles inside some strange places. As the first one entered I thought I would become ecstatic and jump up and down, but for some reason I couldn''t even feel them. As all the needles were in place he nodded with a faint smile on his face. Jake picked up the globe and without a second delay it started glowing. The glow was almost mesmerizing as it lit out in a blood red glow. As the seconds past, Jakes face turned grimmer and grimmer by the second almost to the point of looking slightly pale. Suddenly the light emitted from the globe stopped as he gazed over ¡°I am sorry to say, but in terms of physical strength and its potential your fate seems grim¡± He said with a grave face. Well it was something expected, ever since I arrived in this strange world, I could sense that I was not in my domain. Almost like an outsider standing but naked in the cold outside a house waiting for it to open before freezing to death. I was prepared, but it didn¡¯t matter, grief still consumed me inside almost like I was about to emit tears from my eyes at a moment¡¯s notice. As the priest saw my appearance in this state he showed a pitiful smile ¡°Gladly, it seems that this fact did not bother you much, I guess you were prepared¡± In the eyes of the priest my facial expression, my body language hadn¡¯t budged in the slightest. By the out world not even the end of the world would startled my body. Even if flames would wave in endless, I would never panic. Even though my emotions had started delve on the inside since arriving in this world. Jake hesitated a second before once again he opened his mouth in the belief he would once again get my hopes up Unauthorized content usage: if you discover this narrative on Amazon, report the violation. ¡°Fey, you might not even reach the first rank in terms physical strength, but there is still hope. You might have some affinity for an element and could strengthen yourself through that or your quod could be impressive¡± As he continued the smile continued to persist of pity even though Fey had shown none to care for ¡°And even if that is the case, you can train your quod without even having talent to the point of easily being able to protect yourself!¡± ¡°And also your spirit could be¡¡± Fey couldn¡¯t take it anymore; those words of pity were clawing at his already fragile pride and mind. As he sighted he had no choice but to break the current path the conversation was leading ¡°What are those ranks you mentioned? They seem rather interesting. And quod was is that?¡± As Fey hastily cut off Jake couldn¡¯t help letting out a chuckle before turning those eyes of pity into his normal kind ones ¡°One at a time young fellow¡± Jake said as he continued to chuckling slightly ¡°Ranks are a way to determine power in this world. It goes from rank 1 which is the lowest up to 10 at the maximum. But even though 10 is the max there have been quite some who have even surpassed that becoming untouchables¡± ¡°ahh those untouchables¡± Jake was clearly in his own mind envying those creatures of immense power. ¡°But do not let the numbers fool you, if someone has reached the rank of 8 or higher in this plane they are considered the top candidates to ascend to the next world. People who have already ascended come flocking once someone reach that rank, wanting to recruit them in to their clan or gatherings to strengthen themselves in the ascended world.¡± Fey frowned as he was very confused ¡°How would they know if someone had reached the 8 rank in this world, I mean they can¡¯t go around checking people with these needles could they? That would take an immeasurable long time¡± ¡°Haha, indeed even if thousands of years are nothing to those beings, doing that would without doubt be a pain in the ass. There is actually something called spirit in this world, and once you reach a certain level of power it carries strong pressure with it. So strong that once people of power not suppress it could easily kill people¡± Kill people by just the presence of your spirit, something about it felt familiar but I just couldn¡¯t grasp why. ¡°So when you reach above the 3rd rank almost everyone can grasp your level of power, it¡¯s pretty convenient¡±¡¯ ¡°Oh and yes quod, quod is the internal energy that seem to stream in every being that comes to this plane at the same time it exist in the very air we breathe, most likely almost everywhere¡± ¡°So you see there is hope for you¡± Jake said with a wide smile stretching from chin to chin. As the sun had moved even more, the time was drawing close to the meeting time. No wasting any I time I bed my farewell ¡°Sorry Jake but it seems as I have to go, my meeting time is drawing near¡± ¡°I will be back in about 1 weeks¡¯ time to continue my training¡± Jake just nodded in acceptance Leaving the mysteriously beautiful church, I headed through the masses of people arriving in front of the black door. Moments later Marius stepped out from a side door not far from the black main door with a large smile on his face. ¡°Oh hey Fey, you arrived right at the right moment¡± As on queue a large roar could be heard from the masses of people that walked the street, which didn¡¯t seem to become less even though evening was drawing even closer. The roar was a very familiar one.. ¡°Let me through or lick my feet in defeat puny creature¡± Pressing from the masses Muto arrived. Marius nodded towards Muto before speaking ¡°Alright everyone here, let¡¯s move out¡± Even though Marius was by no means a guide he knew quite a lot about the city of Nikt. Nikt seemed to be some sort of trading city connecting the forest of Endel with the Kingdom of Yura. The pure size of it was actually even equal to the capital of Yura, which was neatly just called the capital. Even though Nikt was ruled by a kingdom it had its own royalty serving as the ruler here. But if the Capital sent orders here they would have to oblige. The power they wielded was undeniably much greater then Nikt which in consequence meant little resistance. Being connected to the forest of Endel meant many races would venture here coming from across the north continent. It seemed like the capital and the kingdom was mostly a humanoid empire Marius had theories regarding that weather and conditions were more in the tastes of humans. To my surprise Muto was nodding in acceptance. As we walked across the bustling streets we would once in a while stop in front of buildings of importance. At these sights Marius would proceed to introduce its purpose and significance. We stopped at 2 churches all belonging to the cult of Kuruzor. It seemed like the church had quite the presence in these lands. Some large palaces belong to Counts and other high ranking people, which Marius said represented their power in these lands. At the end of the tour Marius led us to the inn district which it was called, where there were inns as far as the eye could grasp. The first thing that came to mind was money. ¡°Marius what currency does this world use?¡± ¡°They use bronze, silver, gold coins and even crystal in some cases. At least in the northern continent, they value gold and such, although it does vary quite a bit depending on where you live¡± As soon as Marius was done speaking he pulled up a bag from his pocket. Inside was something making a slight ¡°cling noise. ¡°Have these for now, but if you really want to stay here long, I would recommend joining the hunting squad¡± Muto¡¯s face turned bright with excitement with the mention of the word ¡°hunter¡± ¡°Will people lick my toes if I become a great hunter??!¡± Marius grinned with a peak of evil content in his eyes ¡°Indeed, everyone will lick you, haha, but say that I was the one that recruited you, okay?¡± He said with a blink ¡°Well Muto once you decide I will be waiting for you at the hunter mansion, come if you dare¡± He said teasingly, not hiding his intention in the slightest.. The gold Marius gave us seemed to afford a whole 4 months of rent even though it only was 2 gold coins. Muto was trying to hassle with the innkeeper which was an old woman in her seventy¡¯s, but to no avail. Even offering his foot to be licked, but for some reason that made her even more pissed off. Inside the inn were mostly humanoids eating and drinking, it gave a peaceful vibe. Once I entered the inn as being hit by a paralyzing spell I instantly fell asleep. Chapter 8: The presence of death The week in Nikt went by in a flash. The following morning as waking from a slumber that had seemed to last an eternity. I woke of the sound of something wet and sluggish. As my eyes slowly tilted open I literally jumped out my bed screaming ¡°OOOOOOOeeeeeeeahhhhhhh¡± ¡°Muto don¡¯t lick my toes!!!¡± Yes, I got licked, by this monstrous yet ingenious sneak attack, and it even had a name, Sneak lick of shadows. Why it had a name, was something I couldn¡¯t grasp. Clearly after the incident I had to cut all ties with Muto, leaving him forever in regret of having licked my toes. I am obviously joking, but I at least decided to keep my distance for a couple of days in an attempt to illustrate my dislike of said behavior. Meeting up with Marius I had once again toured around the city in hopes of finding something fun or interesting. Marius had taken me directly to Yura Academy Nikt Branch, A training school for the gifted members of the Yura continent. Of course admittance was terribly hard, only those whose talent had been heard around towns across the Yura kingdom was even allowed an audience with the admittance council. The purpose of the academy was to groom the student not only in personal power but also turning them loyal towards the kingdom that trained them. A truly malevolent method of recruiting the best for the upcoming wars, even though the kingdom was not currently in one. ¡°So Marius is it really that hard to gain entry?¡± I said with a bit of a cold sweat ¡°The estimated number of people in the Yuran Kingdom is about 1 billion, and from my knowledge there is only around one hundred thousand accepted students across the kingdom¡± My face turned pale just thinking about it. As soon as we had began walking towards the Academy, I could feel my blood starting to boil as Marius was describing the academy. Finally an academy that could help me improve, one that could help me find redemption. But as fast as my blood began to boil, a crushing fact presented itself. ¡°Well even if there are 1 billion people in the Yura kingdom, the amount that does not want or believe they can improve themselves are probably as high as half or even higher. They simply gave up knowing in their heart they were inferior¡± Marius said with a little smile The effect of cheering me up did not take; it seemed that it had taken quite the hold around my mind. "No physical talent" was the aspect that bothered me the most, If Jake didn¡¯t find any signs of quod inside my body it would undeniably be an excruciatingly long journey towards redemption. ¡°Don¡¯t feel sad Fey, even I am far from being worthy of acceptance. Maybe you have some affinity for quod. Who knows what the future holds¡± ¡°Even you are not worthy of acceptance??¡± I said with raised eyebrows Marius was without any doubt the fast man I had ever laid eyes on, almost terrifyingly so. And his strength was undeniably inhuman. But he was not worthy. ¡°You seem surprised, but seriously I am only a hunter of the early stage of the second rank, I have long to go, haha¡± As soon as he had spoken, I noticed that we had left Nikt and was currently almost at the edge of the forest of Endel. Marius stared right for a moment and started walking in that direction. Not too far from the borders of Nikt laid what seemed like a separate village spawning 1 big palace building and tens of others smaller establishments around it. Bordering it was a wall about 5 meters in height made out of blackish type of metal. The metal didn¡¯t seem to have a reflection as light was not reflecting off it at all. As we turned corner around one of the edges of the wall we arrived at the entrance. Two big gates blocked our path; the gate was glimmering in the same black substance as before. The gate had to be at least 10 meter tall and as thick as my whole body in length. Outside it stood 4 rather ordinary guards, they didn¡¯t look very physical fit and one of them was actually really obese. It made sense though, they protected the empires most dangerous prospects if someone wanted to forcefully break in, the academy itself would without doubt execute their own vengeance. Knowing this the guards could just casually chat among themselves. Marius stepped forward and greeted them ¡°Hello, I would like to enter¡± He said casually. Like he did not care that this was actually the academy where the soon to be mightiest beings in Yura kingdom would be groomed. The guards started laughing helplessly; the obese one even fell over from laughter. Several moments later one of the guards seemed to have collected himself before speaking ¡°I can¡¯t let citizens casually enter here, you stupid looking midget¡± It seemed that the casual greeting had caused an emotional effect As soon as the guards was done laughing they just stared intensely towards the direction of me and Marius. Marius chuckled at the sight as he reached inside his pocket to grab the metal seal that he had previous shown inside of Nikt. The guards all instantly turned pale like they had seen a ghost ¡°Lord, you should have shown that earlier, please proceed¡± The guard previously mocking Marius bowed before calling the other side to open the gate. As everything had happened my eyes had just stared wide open. ¡°Haha, Fey you should have seen the look on your face, priceless¡± ¡°That seal, it seems to hold great significance¡± Marius nodded ¡°It represents that I am a noble of Yura Kingdom, not just of Nikt but the entire kingdom, it therefore holds greater value then your normal noble title¡± ¡°And yes before you ask, I received it by doing someone I know a very dangerous favor, don¡¯t ask anymore¡± Marius said as he walked faster towards the academy. ¡°I won¡¯t ask about how you got it, but do nobles usually visit here?¡± Marius chuckled in resposne ¡°Yes the reason might surprise you, it¡¯s love¡± ¡°A joke I presume¡± ¡°No but really, As you know power holds great esteem in this world, it secures you safety and prosperity. If you¡¯re powerful you will most likely gain many benefits. Noble women and men come here in the purpose of finding a suitable marriage partner. It¡¯s one way to gain power, people are indeed greedy¡± I couldn¡¯t believe it, but as soon as we entered the grass field leading up to the Academy Village, several people came up behind us walking past us as they were going towards the village. The group consisted of only females, all caring a noble aura around them. Dresses with qualities never seen in the masses of Nikt, shining brightly in different colors. The beauty of the girls was mesmerizing to some degree. The mesmerizing effect didn¡¯t last long though, an after effect of seeing the royal princess beauty only once. Marius only chuckled as I watched the noble ladies leave at a high pace. ¡°This academy is the dream of most men and women alike, finding both love and strength in the same place¡± Marius suddenly turned left not in the direction of the village but into the woods nearby ¡°Hey where are we going?¡± ¡°Getting into the actual academy is a bit trickier, follow me maybe we can catch something interesting¡± As we entered the forest I couldn¡¯t been more surprised. Several of the very sturdy trees of Endel had deep cuts in them. Some of the trees were even cut in half. even though we were not in the actual forest, the alluring feeling it conveyed was still present. But the stench of blood and the feeling of battle overshadowed the mesmerizing effect. Only walking in the forest vicinity felt like a downscaled version of the princess¡¯s spirit presence. No one was around but their spirit aura was still hanging around like thick mist slightly halting my breath. The deeper we went the thicker the aura became ¡°Fey! Stop!¡± Marius screamed in a whispering scream Not even 50 meters ahead two young men stood facing each other, both wearing sword made out of that same black metal the gate was made off. One of them was a handsome elf male with deep blue eyes and long black hair, the other one was a rough man having an array of scars covering most of his very muscular body. Appearance wise he was not far off from a normal human being expect for those eyes, his iris was almost pitch black like a demon warrior ascended from hell to destroy everything in its path. The rougher man laughed before speaking up ¡°Muriel your power is indeed an interesting one, sparing with you is never an disappointment¡± The beautiful elf couldn¡¯t help but smile as well ¡°Katel you have a long way to go¡± Seing the ignorant elf speaking such words made Katel explode in anger and the released aura from him spread out like a nuclear bomb around the vicinity. as he began charging at the elf in terrifying speed. Only a second later he reappeared before the elf, almost like he teleported. Being slightly in the air, Katel swung down his black sword in a downwards manner. The weight of the sword seemed to be terrifyingly strong as it fell down against the elf¡¯s fragile head. But before reaching impact a blue like barrier appeared in front of him blocking Katel¡¯s heavy blow with ease. Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon. ¡°Haha, told you Katel, just physical strength is no match for my quod barrier¡± Meanwhile both Fey and Marius had a hard time breathing as both the combatants auras had spread like fire through the forest. The thickness was actually so high that you could see the thickness in the air itself. Marius being of the second rank could withstand it but me I was gasping for breath every now and then. Marius seeing my state pulled me by arm and pulled back the way we came from. A while later we came out the forest and were back around the gate. ¡°Marius that aura was so thick, not like the royal princess that held weight instead just, thick¡± ¡°Yes, spirit aura has a way of forming in regards to the person that wields it. The power of those two should be around the fifth rank if I am not mistaken¡± ¡°Only fifth? And still so strong, amazing¡± ¡°Haha, Marius those auras are nothing before the likes of royalty for example. The pressure you felt when the princess walked by was higher right?¡± ¡°It might have been, even if breathing was hard the effect she had was more a suppressing aura.¡± ¡°Fey, that was just her normal aura, she was not suppressing it but it was indeed far from its peak. Both those people pressed out their aura to the maximum which meant it became many times stronger. If the princess did the same, well, you could imagine the outcome¡± Yes, that aura several times stronger would without a doubt even be able to kill me¡ After that visit to the academy, days went by as I leisurely walked about town, shopping supplies in anticipation for the day that I would finally be able to begin my training. The thought often came to mind of trying physical training myself, but the effect of it would had been so minor it wasn¡¯t even worth trying. I woke up early the day I would finally talk to the priest again, almost regretting that I hadn¡¯t set an even earlier date for going there. But I was the one setting the date how could I go against my own words. Rushing over there I was greeted by another priest as I stepped inside the mysterious church. ¡°Hey there young fellow, I beg you please not to rush inside the church¡± This kind old man was undeniably human or at least appeared to be. ¡°Are you human by any chance?¡± Couldn¡¯t hurt to ask.. ¡°Haha, yes I am indeed human, you as well I presume?¡± The old man looked to be in his seventies with grey hair and wrinkles all over his fragile face. ¡°Indeed I am my name is Fey, I came from Thailand¡± I said as I bowed in respect ¡°Hello Fey, nice to meet you my name is Kyr I came to this planet over 4500 years ago.¡± I almost jumped out in surprise, but unfortunately I wasn¡¯t the kind of person that showed emotions in that way outwards.. Unless, someone licked my toes¡. ¡°fo..uu..r thousand!¡± ¡°Haha, yes¡± ¡°That is amazing, just amazing¡± ¡°Thank you, young man would you be interested in learning about the sect of kuruzor? The religion is perfect for us humans, since we are weak it can provide great opportunities¡± Again with these selling techniques, even this 4500 year old man was advertising the church ¡°I am already I student here, I came to talk to priest Jake. He is supposed to continue my power assessment today¡± ¡°I am glad to hear that you have chosen to align with Kuruzor, If you tag along me young man I will show you to the room and go find Jake¡± Following the old man we once again walked through the mysterious hallway, the paintings was once again mesmerizing. It wasn¡¯t long until we arrived in the dojo like room. The old man was surprisingly agile for his ancient age; he had without doubt been training at least some of those thousands of years. He left and soon came back with the lizard like Jake. ¡°Fey, welcome back¡± He said with that ugly wide smile. ¡°Thank you for having me, could we proceed?¡± ¡°Hasty fellow aren¡¯t you¡± ¡°Okay if that is the case I will once again insert the needles¡± Without further ado he started setting the needles inside me, once again at strange different places around the body. Moments later he once again picked upped the globe and it started shining but instead of red it made more of a blue color this time around. Jake was smiling widely as he began inspecting the globe. But as time progressed his face turned grimmer and grimmer, until he was almost mad. He watched over once again with that pitiful look, this was undeniably bad news. ¡°I am sorry Fey, but the current amount of quod in your body is low, but do not fear training quod is something every being is capable off. Your talent in the area is not measureable with any method but either case you will be able to get stronger¡± As I was about to rise and pick out the needles waved his hand in a no manner. I guess there is something left to measure, but hearing that my talent in both quod and physical made my mind wander off into dark places, memories of hardship and a dark faith. Kyr standing behind Jake spoke up before my mind was going deeper into the darkness. ¡°Fey fear not, humans as a race usually have normal or high affinity towards darkness, it should be fine¡± ¡°What? Darkness why?¡± ¡°Well the human race is cruel and punishing growing in such environments only furthers the growth of such affinity¡± He said with a grim smile on his face. Jake nodded before he once again put his hands on the globe this emitting a pure white light. But as soon as I could see that beautiful black light emitting from the orb my mind went black This, no please ------------------------------------- Darkness were everywhere on this empty football field. The green grass that once grew there was all but forgotten. Shattered by the endless rain pouring over it. In the middle of the field four children lied. The mud had once again mixed with the red substance of life, creating a mesmerizing substance streaming down the fields currents as the rain continued to pour. The light of life only shinned on two, as the other had already become one with the darkness. ¡°You two survived¡± The man said as he stared down at the children who only had a tin light protecting them against the darkness The children could only stare at another at the light was slowly fading ¡°Is it over?¡± The younger child said ¡°No I won¡¯t give up, you will live and so will I¡± ¡°You the older child, kill that other one and I¡¯ll let you live¡± Tiers fell down from both of the children cheeks as they watched the man staring at them ¡°No I won¡¯t, I will kill¡± Fey tried to lift his body but to no avail ¡°Brother kill me¡± ¡°No I won¡¯t, I won¡¯t, I can¡¯t¡± ¡°Brother kill me¡± He mustered up the biggest smile he could ¡°N..o¡± Fey could no longer hold back his tears ¡°You can live, that¡¯s all I want. You do not need me. Brother be brave for me one last time¡± ¡°Brother please kill me, this is my final request¡± ¡°I wo..nt¡± ¡°You don¡¯t need me brother, I was not meant out for this life¡± ¡°I am we.. The knife had hit the heart, and darkness hade finally token over ¡°AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH¡± The loudest of scream echoed on that football field -------------------------------------- As I opened my eyes, to my surprise both Kar and jake was passed out on the floor. What happened here, Were we under attack? --Jake Perspective¡ª ¡°Well the human race is cruel and punishing growing in such environments only furthers the growth of such affinity¡± So humans have strong affinity for darkness. Hopefully he has it otherwise this will be a though journey for Fey. He seems ready now, let¡¯s try spiritual examination.. I can feel darkness, he really has some affinity. Bu..t. What is that dark aura streaming out from him Ohh it¡¯s coming this way, let me just touch it -¡°Awhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh¡±- -¡°Why do I feel like I am dying, and this pa..i..n it h..u.r..t.s¡±- --------------------------------------- This boy is my brother, but why is he dying. Wait I can¡¯t kill him No,no,no -------------------------------------
