《Passed On》 Prologue: Beginning after the End I saw other authors had these line so I just decided to imitate them xD And to tell you that this is actually my first time ever to try writing a light novel so please critiques.. Do your worst! I need it xD (Note: This isn''t actually the story I was planning at first so I might drop this since I wanted to write a diff story before I suddenly did this random story xD) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I rewrote the prologue as I wasn''t satisfied with it before. Hopefully this one would satisfy me a bit more. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prologue - Rewritten I was currently on the ground with fatal injuries all over my body ¡°Aha.. ha.. ha- *cough*. To think that such a generic event would happen to me. I couldn¡¯t help but smile due to the current state that I am in. I was just minding my own business while walking on the street when a short haired girl suddenly walked through a pedestrian lane while the green light was up. And as one would expect, a car was about to hit her straight on as she continues to walk casually. And of course being the incredibly good-natured and handsome person that I am, I decided to save her without a second thought. Unfortunately, I didn¡¯t have any talent in sports or anything that is related to physical labor and so all I could do was push her away while my body savors the warm embrace of the.. Vehicle. [???]: Are you alright? With a straight face that show no sign of any emotion, the girl asked me who is obviously on the brink of death, an absurd question. I wanted to retort so much but I didn¡¯t want to waste my strength anymore, so I just kept calm. ¡°Yes..¡± I said weakly in order to not make her worry too much. Although her face seems to not have any signs of worry on it. [???]: Okay then, see you. With a swift and kind of stiff movement, she stood up and turned around in order to leave the scene of the crime. ¡°Oi oi! You¡¯re just gonna leave like that!? Uagh! My injuries opened up more!¡± I couldn¡¯t hold it in any longer, this woman is about to leave his savior, who is obviously about to die, with just a simple see you?! At this rate my mental health will be in a far more dangerous state than my body! [???] Hmm..? She tilted her head a bit and looked at me with a questioning expression that seems to ask me if there was something else that I needed. ¡°Guh, I know that you have no obligation to me since I did it on my own whim, but isn¡¯t it normal to call for an ambulance or even just get shocked!?¡± I know that I¡¯m probably causing my injuries to open up even more by talking, but there¡¯s no way I¡¯m letting this situation continue. [???]: Oh¡­ Thank you for the assistance, I¡¯ve never encountered a dying man before so I didn¡¯t know how to react. Ehem, Uahhh- there is a man dying in front of me kyahh--. With a monotone sound and stiff movement she raised her hand and tried her best to convey a surprised look. She looked at me with expectant eyes afterwards, as if she was asking me to rate how well she did. ¡°...¡± Uahh I give up, It¡¯s better for me to just fly off to heaven and leave this world. With that declaration, my brain died not due to blood loss but due to the absurd girl killing all of my brain cells in just a mere minute. Before I completely lost my consciousness, my entire life flashed in front of me. I never really believed it but to think that it actually happens before you die. Whether my life was good or bad, I don¡¯t really know, but I believe that it was a decent one. I was raised in an orphanage, my parents left me there before I could even think for myself so I never really knew them. The only thing they left me was a blanket with the word ¡°Kain¡± knitted on it, my name. I didn¡¯t really mind not knowing them as I wasn¡¯t the only one who was in this situation. Most of the orphans were also abandoned right after they were born and some of them lost their parents due to an accident. This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. Through the course of my life, I learned things like how to control a conversation, how to gauge a person¡¯s personality, etc. Things that are necessary for someone living on the dangerous streets alone. The orphanage only allowed us to stay until a certain age and afterwards we were no longer allowed to live in their quarters so we had to increase our workload to accommodate the extra necessities that we had. Now that I look back on it, my life was pretty uneventful afterwards. I was able to get a part-time job and slowly worked my way up to a decent job. I had a few scuffles with a shady organization but decided to back out before it was too late, like a mouse trap their offers were appealing, tempting, easy.. But of course at the end of the path, it is just cage to ensnare the weak minded. I have been working recently in a restaurant as a chef. My cooking skills improved slowly over the course of years and I decided to use my savings in order to get lessons formally on cooking. Which landed me this job. [???]: Hey! What is taking so long!? Where is my order!? A man seated inside a restaurant pounds the table with his fists while looking straight at me through an open window, one that allows the guests to see the chefs at work. The restaurant that I was working on recently started flourishing and attracted more guests. And of course among this guests are the rich pigs who think that they were higher than most people. ¡°Here is your meal sir, we are honored to have you here.¡± I bowed slightly to show my respects and gracefully placed his meal in front of him. [Rich Pig]: Hmph! Took you long enough. My incompetent attendant can probably even cook better than you folks in this trash establishment. He waved his hands telling me that he was done with me so I bowed once again and left the area. I¡¯m already used to dealing with this kind of person. Drowning in his own greed and lust he tries his best to make himself look like he was above others at anything he does. The best course of action is just to agree with them and steer away from their path. [Rich Pig]: Oi, what the hell is this. Why is this meat not cooked well!? I turned to face him in order to answer him quickly. ¡°Sir that is what you asked for, when we asked you whether you liked it coo--¡± [Rich Pig]: Shut up! I know what I want and I want this to be redone! Or should I go somewhere else to eat a decent meal? ¡°We will get right on it sir.¡± My days continued like this, a simple day of a normal worker. It made me think of what the woman in the orphanage used to say to appease us. That everything is for a purpose and everything that happens will lead us to the end point which is the purpose of our existence. Going back to the present here I am, the man named Kain in the brink of death. I was just casually taking a stroll on my day off when a generic death flag event happened to me all of a sudden. ¡°Hah, so is this it? The reason why I¡¯ve lived till this day was to save a girl? I guess it isn¡¯t so bad going out like this but..¡± ¡°I wish¡­ I was allowed to live life for myself a little while longer..¡± With those last words the last thing my eyes saw was the girl that I saved holding both my hands while smiling. Not a fake or awkward smile but a genuine one. ¡°Hey, you can smile after all.¡± My consciousness drifted deeper and deeper into darkness as my life ends.

A beautiful woman with long golden hair and a white one piece shirt was currently standing in front of me while carrying a book. ¡°Huh? Thank you?¡± Didn¡¯t I die? where exactly is this? [???]: This place is called the evaluation zone. People who die have their souls sent here for evaluation. ¡°I see and who exactly are you?¡± [???]: Oh, I forgot to introduce myself, I apologize. My name is Mika and I¡¯m going to be your informant during your stay here. She continued skimming through the book that she was holding. [Mika]: Let me get straight to the point. You are going to be reincarnated to a world of your choice. What ever you become in the other world will be decided by your life record or in some cases the directors themselves might intervene and decide for you. I nodded a bit to agree and continued listening. [Maki]: You seem rather calm. Most of the souls that pass through here lose their composure right about now. ¡°In my world there were a lot of stories about reincarnation so I guess I kinda got used to the idea of being reincarnated after dying.¡± [Maki]: I see, Well then without further ado time to send you to the renewal center. ¡°Why is the Human world locked? Why did they even put that on the list.¡± I guess that leaves me with 3 choices Phantasma, Zeran and Kainan. Normally I would¡¯ve picked Phantasma right away. Dragons, divine beasts and magic? It definitely sounds interesting but the other world called Kainan sounds interesting too. Zeran on the other hand sounds like a monotonous, unchanging world. Not my kind of place. After thinking things through I decided to go with Kainan as it sounded like the most interesting out of all the worlds.

"Huh? Something is off.. Didn''t it say that the directors decide what your form will be in the new world? A list of races were shown to me but It didn''t provide me with any information at all so I couldn''t tell what''s what. Kelthian? Zolas? What the hell are these races!? How am I supposed to pick one when I don''t even know what these races are? What if I accidently pick an insect race or something.. That would really suck. Having no way to know what these races were, I decided to just randomly pick one. "Oh, what the hell let''s just go with this one called Zver. I just hope it''s a humanoid race or at least something with limbs.

¡°Just like that!?¡± Within a few secs my vision darkens as my consciousness is taken from me. ¡°...¡± Minutes passed Then hours yet nothing happened. I tried to move a bit but it seemed like my movements were constrained and it kinda felt gooey so I stopped right away. Of course I knew where I currently was, I was obviously in my mother¡¯s womb but the fact that I was conscious was really weird. After around an hour I suddenly felt a tugging sensation. ¡°Oho? Is it finally time?¡± I felt my body being brought out of the womb and into the world. As soon as I was out I quickly spread my arms as much as I can and smiled. ¡°Hello world!¡± No matter what happened in the past or how absurd my reincarnation process was, I was still really happy to have a chance to live again. I shouted as loud as I can afterwards but it seems that I wasn¡¯t capable of speech just yet so I ended up just wailing loudly. [Nurse(???)]: My, what an energetic kid. It¡¯s the first time I¡¯ve seen one smile right away. [Man(???)]: He probably would¡¯ve lived a good life if he was only born earlier.. It seems that the language that they are using is the same as the language in my world. And what was that guy talking about? How dare he be so depressing in front of a child! [Woman(???)]: Give me my son. I wish to name him at least. The girl who seems to be the nurse slowly carried me over to the woman who seems to be my mother. Though her sad tone concerns me a bit there¡¯s nothing I can do at the moment except listen to their conversation. I fell asleep afterwards. It seems that I expend a lot of energy no matter how trivial my actions are. As I slowly fell asleep I could only think of one thing. ¡°I wonder what tomorrow will be like?¡±
