《I was summoned as a Dragon?!》 Prologue: Heroes Part 1 Heroes. Throughout history, we, the Kingdom of Sailos, have borrowed their power to defend our nation. They are people summoned from beyond this world before a time of crisis can arrive. They have powerful Fate, and a nearly unnatural growth-rate, in terms of power. Heroes of course are strong beings, who can fight any person head to head. Because of their strong Fate, they''re also unlikely to fall into misfortune; though that does not make them immune to death, or even exempt them from suffering. Thus, the role of Hero is an inspirational one, meant to raise the moral and vigor of the nation, and to join forces with our armies to defeat enemies. Occasionally, a hero''s companions are also pulled into the summoning, and gain similar power to his own. In such cases, the moral among the nation is raised even higher, and the combat potential of the heroes together can sometimes be comparable to a small army. However, since the last Hero summoning, Sailos abandoned the Hero Summoning spell. The last heroes had been summoned to this world from another world. Many heroes tend to be summoned from worlds or nations in some ways similar to our own. Half of the summoned heroes come from worlds where magic doesn''t seem to exist, or the magic systems operated differently. That''s generally fine, as the Hero Summoning spell adapts their bodies to the use of magic in our world, and teaching them magic is also not a hassle because we usually train them in combat anyways, in order to prepare them. After all, even if their bodies can easily be considered powerful, it''s not uncommon for their minds to be accustomed to peace. But the last of our Summoned Heroes were different. 15 heroes were summoned. The most ever summoned was about double that, so it wasn''t strange for such a thing to occur. I was but a boy when they were summoned, and hadn''t even began my apprenticeship as a Mage. However, my master was among the Mages who performed the summoning, and currently being among the Royal Mages, I''ve been told much about those "Heroes". They were said to be familiar with each other, even if some were closer than others. A couple were even related. I don''t know what sort of world they were from, but they were apparently weary of our world and its cultures. But none the less, they undertook the training we gave them, and accepted the hospitality we offered them. That was until a year had passed. As I said before; Those brought to this world through the Hero Summoning grew quickly in power, even if they themselves were not particularly the Hero chosen (some times we never really learn which was the Hero the Summoning was aiming for). But these individuals exceeded the expectations the Kingdom had of them. Each of them became extremely powerful; possibly the strongest Heroes to emerge, and in only a year''s time. Each individual had power comparable to a Demon Lord''s entire Royal Guard. The Demon Lords themselves weren''t always that powerful, as their role is to lead, not fight. But their Guards were certainly a different story. When a year had passed after their summoning, they demanded return to their home world. This was not uncommon. Some Heroes made such demands upon their summoning, but eventually decided to help our cause with persuasion. These heroes however, had not completed their task, and even baffled the Kingdom with their actions. They had experienced 2 large battles against enemy Demon Nations, and were able to defeat the armies, even having enough leeway to capture and imprison over a quarter of the enemies with only damaging wounds. Usually Prisoners of war consisted of important figures who could be used as hostages for one reason or another, as well as a few extra soilders to maintain cooperation. It was too much of a hassle to "capture" so many soldiers; yet these "Heroes" did so, for so many. It was ridiculous. So many rations were wasted, and after negotiating with the enemy nations (Without consulting the Kingdom) they even released the prisoners. So when they demanded return to their world, they were infuriated when they learned there was no such method to return. They did not like our Glorious Kingdom, Sailos and its ways. They especially hated the system of slavery we had, and even shared disdain for our "caste system", as they called it. In the end, they gathered influence among the commoners, slaves, Beast Tribes, and even many Demon Clans, and rebelled. They created nation of their own with their foolish ideals, and betrayed the Sailos Kingdom. Before, the Sailos Kingdom was the most powerful nation in the world. A land where the strongest warriors were trained, and the most powerful mages cultivated. We had many enemies, particularly among the Demon Clans, and when a powerful threat emerged, we would rely on the Hero Summoning spell. It wouldn''t be a lie to say that the Hero Summoning spell was the reason we were so powerful; thanks to gathering Heroes from foreign worlds, we often learned of various information to empower the country. The other Human nations were allied with us, and often seeked our protection. The Beast Tribes were easily taken care of, and it was believed that most had become "domesticated" at the time. But that was in the past. Today, the "Eagel''s Republic" (Or just the "Republic") had become the most powerful force in the lands. They forcefully freed millions of slaves, and accepted entry to almost every race. A ridiculous country had been formed, and the nobility of every nation agreed. However, many of the surviving Beast Tribes and Demon Clans had easily merged with the Republic. It has only been 50 years since then, and they have become the most influential nation on the continent of Ethorn. It''s not really known why they named their nation after a bird, but even so it makes no difference. They have become our enemy. It''s not the first time a Hero has gone traitor; it was however the first time that the entirety of a Summoned group left, and created a separate nation. As a result, Sailos lost half of its territory, after many of the treasonous commoners sided with them. Now we are desperate. We have returned to the Hero Summoning spell, by the King''s orders. The Republic has demanded in the past that we hand over all information regarding it, so it may be disposed of. But we have refused. They did not take action against such a refusal, and instead negotiated that we never use it again. That was fine; the King at the time had already decided never to rely on it again. But things have changed. Heroes age at a considerably slowed pace. As such, the Hero Summoning spell is usually only used every hundred years at the least, or more usually, three hundred. A hero can live a hundred years into his prime, and another hundred before he dies of old age. Their influence can stave off threats, even long after they have died. They are such an existence. Their children are generally also long-lived, though not to such an extent, usually. For the last 50 year, the "heroes" have continued their "revolution," continuing to empower their nation. We of course are on bad terms with them. Even so, they''ve continued to expand their borders, swallowing up many human nations, and have even threatened our own borders even to this day. So to fight them off, we will not summon a "Hero" who may betray us and side with them. We will summon a "Weapon." Generally, not much is known about the Hero Summoning spell. The spell is a massive Magic Formation, with complex patterns and inscriptions, many layered on top of each other. It was created by a Great Mage many thousands of years ago, and only some information to its function was disclosed. We only understand about 10% of the Magic Formation, as it uses techniques that aren''t shared among any other magics. We have not tried to tamper with it too drastically, for fear of what can happen. However, we know what the Great Mage has shared, and we have researched many of the rules for conditions. Of course, these conditions don''t apply to others who may be caught up in the summoning. But for this summoning, we''re going a different route. We are not going to summon a human. We plan to summon a beast. The strongest of beasts. A Dragon. Part 2 I died. Ah, how did I die? Simple; a disease. It''s a mortifying condition that appears often in the type of entertainment I watch and read. Particularly anime, manga and related materials. What''s the name of the condition that killed me? Ah, there''s a technical name for it, but I don''t think it''s really suiting to call it a "condition" under that name, so I have given it a better name. Runaway Truck Syndrome. Yep. Cliche as it sounds, I was hit by a truck, driven by someone who (I think) was drunk. Not that I saw them or anything. I only saw the truck hit me a few seconds ago as I was casually crossing the street. I could feel myself fly several meters before hitting the concrete and rolling about. I''m sure it didn''t really look pleasant, but at the moment, I like to imagine it was at least amusing to watch me roll. Ah, my head is busted open, isn''t it? My arm feels crushed. Huh, it doesn''t seem to hurt though. That''s good at least. Lets me be all smug and snarky at death without being in pain. Shit. There''s still those light novels I wanted to finish reading; damn authors, finish them up already so I can read ''em. Ah, maybe I can read it as a ghost? I wonder if ghosts get to stay around to finish their favorite shows and shit? Not that I believe in ghosts, or even the afterlife for that matter. Eh? Is that a light? Didn''t you hear me? I don''t believe in you, go away. Or is that the gate to hell? I can still see the street, and my blood, so I''m not dead yet. Turning my eyes, the light seems to stay centered on my vision. Actually, it looks like a magic circle. Huh. It''s getting brighter. Ah fuck, my vision''s gone. Did I die already, or did my brain''s sensory shit finally cave? Is this what a coma feels like? No, maybe I''m actually dead? That''s what I think about, as I feel a sucking sensation pull me forward. Suddenly, I see light. I open my eyes, and I see myself inside of a large, cathedral like room. My body feels weird. And I think I''m seeing things. No, I''m hallucinating. There seems to be strange sort of waves and smoke everywhere, that I can even "feel". But it''s colorless. I somehow understand that what I''m seeing has no color, yet my eyes seem to still see it. It''s not transparent; in fact, it''s opaque. Yet I can see through it. This smoke-like substance seems to float around me. As I left my head, I realize that my neck feels weird. I look down at my hands, and see... Claws? They look like a mix between a reptile''s and a bird''s feet. I try to move my hands, but notice that these hand/feet-like things respond to my will. They''re not moving exactly how I want, as the muscles seem to be weird, but they''re certainly mine. I think. You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story. As I look at my self, I realize I have a tail. A long, lizard-like one. What the..? And.. Wings? Ah, I just noticed that my neck is pretty pretty snake-like. What the fuck? Ah, look, there are midgets surrounding me. Eh? No, they look like a normal sized people, just shorter. No, wait, I''m taller, huh? That strange wave-like substance from before seems to be glowing from them. But it looks like their bodies no longer hold much of it. As I look down at the ground, I realize there are carvings. A large massive pattern is carved into the ground around me. Ah, this couldn''t be... "It worked~~!" "The Summoning--" They sounded exhausted, but their words confirmed my next thought; I was summoned to another world. How cliche. Eh? But why do I have this scaly body? And why am I so huge? Ah, was I reincarnated into another body, and then summoned? That''s been a theme in some of the stories I''ve read. I seem to be a dragon, judging by my characteristics. It''s too dark to see if I at least look cool, but I don''t seem to be one of those Chinese snake-like Dragons. More like the general fantasy dragons that walk on all fours, and look like a sort of dinosaur. This pattern though doesn''t seem to match up with other stories though. Usually, when summoned, the person is still human, or if there was some kind of special magic to it, they come out at least human-like. But here I am; after dying, I was summoned as a fully grown dragon. Ah, am I fully grown? I can''t tell. The humans around me look to be shorter than me. But how large is a fully grown dragon? Also, now that I think about it, is this strange substance I can see and feel with all my senses, mana? My instincts tell me yes. Instincts? That''s funny, they actually are telling me yes. Not literally the word "yes", but close enough to a "yes sensation", if that makes sense. No, it doesn''t make sense for me either. "It really worked! We summoned a Dragon!" Ah, they''re still celebrating. I understand them? Huh, I just noticed it''s not English, but the words all make sense. Something like a second language, but as clear as English. Well this is common in stories. It''s usually explained as some kind of spell incorporated into the summoning. "Finally! We can rest easy! Surely it can destroy our enemies!" "Ah, but, what should we do? Can it understand us?" "We''ll let it gather its surroundings. Don''t try to frighten it." As expected. I let out a sigh, that sounded pretty monstrous. But it seems like they want me to fight some enemy. It''s that kind of setting, huh? Ah, but aren''t you supposed to summon human heroes or something? Summon me with my own body, dammit! I can''t establish a fantasy harem like this! Oh, maybe I can? I''m still a guy, right? I''m sure I can somehow achi--- Where''s my dick? Shit, reptiles don''t have dicks, huh? What kind of genitals do they have? Actually, going by how my scales, feet and legs look, I''m probably closer related to birds. If I remember correctly, the ancestors of birds are said to be dinosaurs, right? Makes sense if in this world, Dragons are the remainder of dinosaurs. Still, no dick. Oh god, I''m so depressed now. I don''t know how to tell what gender I am. I mean, my instincts tell me I''m at least male, but how do dragons have sex? My instincts haven''t told me that much, but I get the feeling I might (might might might) instinctively know when it comes time to find out. I looked over at one of the guys who had encircled me. They seemed to be magicians or something, and looked pretty tired. They did summon me after all. Must take a lot of mana. One I looked forward, I saw who I figured was the top-dog among these magicians. How did I know? No, not instincts. Most of the guys around me had grey robes, with white clothe along the edges, and some sort of crest where their heart should be. Over all, the robes were clean, and had very few deviations from each other. And then there''s the guy in front of me, surrounded by 4 Knights, who clearly didn''t take part in the summoning, as they weren''t exhausted at all, unlike the magician in the center of them. There were other Knights around, but he was the only one with Knights directly around him. On top of having his own bodyguards, he had a very stylish silver robe, that had what looked like ingrained gold, and jewels sown into the fabric. He also was the only one here to have a staff. A very shiny and fancy one at that. Mana seemed to gather around him, particularly towards his staff. Was he ready in case I attacked? Well anyways, I decided to speak. "Hey, turn me into a human!" That''s what I tried to say anyways. Instead it came out more like: "KYARAAGRRRRHHHHHHH" Ah, my vocal cords can''t handle human speech, huh? Instead, my voice came out like a blood-curdling roar, that sounded like a mix between a lion''s roar, and some kind of high-pitched bird screech. No good. I scared the shit out of everyone. Myself included. With a face of terror, the man I identified as the leader of the group shouted something I just couldn''t accept. "Put the control collar on him!" Part 3 We had gathered 80 mages from within the Kingdom, all of whom had the highest mana capacity. Summoning such a large beast would surely take a lot of power. We knew from past knowledge that the more who are summoned, the greater the cost of the summoning. The very first summoning was only a single hero, and involved 50 mages who fed mana into the summoning. But the cost wasn''t very much, and no one felt any exhaustion. The second and third summonings only needed 5 mages, and they were usually tired to some extent. At the time, the mages involved with the summoning had figured that each summoning would only bring a single Hero. This was a grave mistake. The forth summoning resulted in 4 heroes being summoned. With only five mages supplying mana at the time, when it came to the "final phase" (The phase where their bodies would gain form in our world, and it was no longer possible to turn back and stop the summoning), the mages body''s began to deteriorate, and 2 of them died, while the other three had several years marked off of their lives. Thus, the tradition became to always have 20 mages perform the summoning, with magic crystals for reserve mana. Even then, there were times when mages fell in deep exhaustion, but none had died thus far, But now we needed to gather as many mages as possible for such a summoning. Not only would the Dragon''s body be larger than most of our summonings; dragons also have an immense mana capacity. So we gathered everyone with large mana capacities, fed them various mana potions, and gave them magic crystals that held a large quantity of mana. We even had to gather some who weren''t high ranking mages, and merely had large mana capacities from birth. The result? No one died, but even so, everyone''s mana was sucked almost dry. Even the mana crystals were drained, and among those who had little experience with mana exhaustion, some had nearly passed out. For a dragon, this one was rather small, so most of the effort it took to summon it probably went into feeding the dragon''s own immense mana supply. That was expected, as we had set "young" as a condition. Actually, that was always a condition. Most all the heroes ranged from 12 to 17 upon summoning. There were some summoned with different ages outside that range, but those were just companions that were sucked into the summoning along with the hero. The reason for such a condition was easy; it''s easier for one to accept such a situation if they were brought when they were in their youth. We particularly wanted a Dragon about 13 years old, but as expected, even young dragons were the size of a horse, and had mana of immense scale Oddly, the "Race" of the summoned "hero" is not defined as a condition in the same way the rest of the conditions are. Even though we don''t fully understand the segment, because this part which defined a human was also used in other familiar spells, we were able to identify this segment hundreds of years ago. We of course never touched it before, but this time, when drawing up the magic formation for this summoning, we changed the formation which defined a human, into one that defined a dragon. The summoned dragon had deep blue scales, and eyes just a tad lighter. Its claws were long and sharp, and like any dragon, could probably tear people to pieces. It basically looked like any other dragon. Its shape and such were normal, but it likely had greater strength than an average dragon its own size. What we knew for sure, was that this dragon has double the mana capacity of a typical dragon. Its mana capacity was enormous. So I watched the dragon. The other mages seemed to celebrate at their success, but I was cautious. We didn''t know what sort of world this dragon came from. I had heard that in many worlds, dragons do not exist. So this one was pulled from one where it did. What sort of world was it though? The dragon seemed to be curious. It looked around, particularly at itself. How odd. But it took in its surroundings curiously. Then it looked at the mages, as if only now noticing them. After a long while, it took a glance at me, and observed me. I was weary of this action. Suddenly, it roared! We broke into something of a panic. We were all exhausted. Though we had various Knights in the room, they wouldn''t be able to prevent at least a few deaths. What''s more, we needed the dragon alive. I shouted orders. We needed to subjugate this dragon, and bring it under control. We had Control Collars created for this dragon. Control Collars are normally meant for slaves, but we wouldn''t risk another betrayal. But as soon as we prepared for that, the Dragon seemed to go into a frenzy. It seemed to clumsily move about, slamming anyone who approached it, as it tried to move its wings. How odd. Is it possible that the dragon was tired, thus couldn''t fly properly? No matter. We would exploit this... Or so I thought. Suddenly, the dragon quickly moved towards the exit. Large, stone double doors, were destroyed by this beast, as it slammed into it. In hind-sight I would realize that the dragon also took injury from this, and had began to limp with a broken shoulder, but at the time, I could not move as I saw such a display of force. The Summoned Dragon had escaped. The only good news was that it had not killed anyone. Looks like we made a terrible blunder. (Not a Chapter) Suggestions and thoughts? First off, let me start by saying "Sorry". While I didn''t officially drop this, I did put it off for later, and never got back to it. I noticed I had more people interested in this than I thought. So I thought of some ideas to go with the universe. I came up with an idea that could need the use of another story or two, but at the moment I just need to straighten my plan out. Before I had just a couple things thought out, without a real plan. But I realize I should set up the world better, and have been thinking of some more details. Originally I had intended to switch POVs a lot with Jason (I never said his name in the prologue, huh?) and other characters to build the story around. I still more or less have that in mind, but it probably will still have a greater focus on the MC Enjoying the story? Show your support by reading it on the official site. There''s also the issue of the plot¡ªlooking at it at first glance, it looks like I have a plot in mind. And I sort of do. Did. Not sure if I should keep that current idea, so I''m revising it. Ultimately, I want to hear everyone else''s thoughts.are. If I like a suggestion, I''ll probably incorporate the idea, though I probably won''t tell you until we get there lol. If you want spoilers on what I have in mind, I don''t mind saying, but keep in mind I''m still not 100% on the path I''m going to take. Thank you for your patience. Chapter 1: Acclimation Part 1 Ow-ow-ow-ow-ow shit-shit-shit fuck-fuck-fuck My shoulder was busted, and I had a number of scratches along my body. The knights in the room had attacked me, but it seemed they couldn''t do much more than shallow cuts. Or maybe they were holding back, because they wanted to enslave me? In either case, I tossed them aside as I tried to escape, and broke through the doors. I hadn''t expected them to be so thick, nor for my shoulder to nearly dislocate from the force. Hell, I didn''t even expect for me to have that much strength. Those stone doors were thick, and they were locked in place too. It seems Dragons in this world have pretty high durability huh? Ah¡ªShit, I stepped too hard on my leg. Though I was a four-legged creature, my two forelegs also kinda felt like arms, and I even had something like a shoulder. My right shoulder was currently busted, and every time I step too roughly with that leg, a zap of pain flows through my body. Honestly, I''ve felt similar pains before, in my old body. I didn''t play sports too often, but on one occasion my shoulder was dislocated while playing with friends, and on another, my ankle was twisted in a sparring accident back when I use to practice Karate as a child. Though, some would still call me a child even now. (I''m a TEEN now. Go away, stop calling me a child. I''m just a bit short) But anyways... Shit, my shoulder really hurts. It''s not dislocated at least, but it feels like it''s really badly bruised. If I didn''t have thick scales, I''m sure most of my upper "arm" would be dyed purple in bruises. Eh? It is purple? Ah no, my whole body is just blue. Ah, blue isn''t a bad color I guess. Black or Red probably would have been cooler, but at least I''m not pink or yellow. Are there pink or yellow dragons? I wouldn''t know. Huh? Oh right, the knights are still chasing me. Well, after breaking out through some windows, and ending up outside in some kind of town, I began hoping from rooftop to rooftop. Why didn''t I fly? Because I don''t know how. I''m still not use to this body, and my limbs are barely moving how I want. I can''t hope to know how to use my wings when I never had them before. There''s about 50 different times where I almost tripped. And about 100 more where I did in fact lose my balance, as my foot slipped. I can''t help it. Even though moving most of the muscles are the same, I''m not exactly use to walking on all fours. My instincts are helping me a bit with that, but as expected, they''re not helpful. Even if most animals can crawl as soon as they''re born, they still have to learn the more precise movements. I can hear a lot of people screaming around me, and cowaring in fear. They''re all cowering from me, aren''t they? I''m not a monster ya know? Ah, but this is pretty cool though. Sure, my most sacred instrument as a man is now in a form I don''t recognize, but being a dragon still seems cool. Also I''m not dead, so there''s that. Oh, the knights aren''t chasing me anymore? Ah, no, it''s more like they can''t, because of the city. I stop atop of a stone tower, and look around, catching my breath for the moment. As I do, I take in the scenery. I seem to be inside of a walled city, where many of the homes and buildings are made primarily of brick, though a lot also seem to use wood in some parts. I was apparently inside of the castle located in the center of the city, and I can even see the large window I broke through to escape. What that-? I can see pretty far... And I can hear pretty well too. Oddly, my brain isn''t being overwhelmed by all this sensation. What''s more, I can see mana perfectly. Hell, I can "feel" it. Ah, it has a lot of... textures? tastes? Well, I guess both of those work. But I don''t really understand what any of these do. Hrmmm... Well, first I should leave the city. To many noises. I mean, I can apparently block them all out, or isolate them, but I''d rather leave. Those knight guys are gonna be a pain if I just stick around here. With that thought, I easily hoped across buildings one after another. It helps that most of the city seems tightly packed. And it seems I''m half-way between the castle, and the city walls. Part 2 In the end, no one was able to stop my escape. It seems I was too fast, and they were underprepared all things considered. Maybe they didn''t know how strong a dragon was? Ah, maybe the summoning gave me extra strength, and they didn''t anticipate that? No, they should have known about that. Maybe they didn''t expect me to run away at all, or something? Ah, yeah, a real Dragon probably would have stayed and fought a while, and they''d have time to surround and capture me if I did that. And those stone doors were pretty tough, so maybe they didn''t expect me to be able to break it?` Didn''t they have a contingency plan or something? Who the hell summons a dragon without a contingency plan? Well they did have that "control collar" thing. Ah, whatever. So after escaping the city, I found myself in a forest. It wasn''t too thick, and allowed my body, which was the size of a horse, to pass between the trees with plenty of extra room. My wings were folded of course, and I haven''t tried to fly again since leaving the city. Instead, I''m trying to refine my walking motions, to get a better balance of myself. Meanwhile, I also noticed the mana in the air. It changed. Kinda. What I noticed was, that the "flavor" was different. Right, I see. In the air, a single type of mana seems to be floating around. It seems almost flavorless, and somehow or another reminds me of water. This mana is everywhere, and flows about. This mana is abundant, even in the city. However, here there''s another type of mana. It comes from the trees and plant life, and has a different "texture". The "texture" of mana is hard to describe to someone who can''t feel or see it, and what''s more, the "taste" of the mana coming from each individual plant seems to be different. Even the spores in the air have slightly unique flavors between each other. But the texture is the same. In fact, the mana inside my body is the same. And even the humans I saw had it. So that''s two types of manas I''ve seen. The first, I''m guessing you could call "neutral mana"? It doesn''t seem to belong to anyone, and it looks like some things just naturally suck it up. I guess you could say that we''re in an ocean, and the mana in the air is the water we swim through. The second type seems to be "owned mana", or maybe "possessed mana"? Or possible "life mana"? It looks like the living things around me are naturally absorbing the neutral mana, and then converting it into life mana. Interesting how I can actually "see" that process occur as I''m thinking this. This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report. Ah, but, when I was summoned I remember seeing a lot of other types of mana, and their textures looked pretty distinct. Maybe mana that''s used in magic changes properties? That seems natural. The mana I was looking at was probably leftovers from the summoning. Eh, I''ll probably learn to better recognize mana over time. Seeing how my body seems to link mana to such things like "texture" and "flavor", it probably is connected to memory, like how they say your sense of taste is linked to memory as well. Ah, where am I? I''ve just been walking non-stop for over an hour through the forest now. And as you can guess, I''m lost. Who am I monologuing to anyways? Part 3 Right, so my name is Jason. Was, Jason. After all, I kinda sorta died. I won''t go into details about my previous life, but I was living a pretty normal life, I''d say. I was part-way through middle school, and most of my classes had pretty good grades. That''s mostly thanks to my great memory of course, but my grades did suffer in some of my classes where homework was a large part of our score. ¡ªOf course, that¡¯s because I''m lazy. Well, nothing really exciting happened in my life. (Turning into a dragon doesn¡¯t count¡ªI¡¯m already technically dead after all) I don¡¯t think I hold any kind of deep trauma or anything. I also don¡¯t really lack friends. I¡¯m pretty happy all around. Or was. Hmm? Oh, looks like I found something like a clearing in the forest. It was a pretty suspicious clearing, that seemed to make a large perfect circle, where no trees grew. My instincts seemed to tell me that something was sucking up the plant life. And when I tried using my ¡°magic sense¡±, I could even see it. A large plant-parasite under ground, taking all the nutrients in the area, through its long roots. What¡¯s more, I noticed the ground slightly curved inward towards the center, so I assume that it was meant to gather water for its greedy self. Well that was fine; the damn thing wasn¡¯t going to bug me after all. I hoped. I decided to try spreading my wings. And like snapping my fingers, they spread out. Huh¡ That was easier than I thought. Still, how do I fly with these? Each one seems to be almost twice my own body length when spread out, but the skin seemed amazing thin. Despite the thinness though, my instincts seemed to give me confidence of its strength. Well, Dragon Leather is a high-grade material in games, right? I shiver at that thought for obvious reasons. Anyways, once my wings are spread out, I try to move them about first. Moving them isn¡¯t too hard, it seems. As expected, the instincts of other animals really is great. I realized during my walk here, that if I ignored my past experiences as a human, walking was less clumsy. On that note, my shoulder got better¡ªI thought it was dislocated, but it seems it was just heavily bruised and sprained. Well, moving my wings seemed to be easier for me¡ªoddly enough¡ªseeing how I didn¡¯t keep trying to correct myself with my human muscle memories, considering I never had wings before. ¡ªIt took a couple hours after getting use to my wings, and testing out how to move them, before I could actually fly. When I finally managed it, I tried to shout in excitement, but¡ª I instinctively shot a fireball into the sky¡ªa pretty big one too. Incidentally, a forest fire happened to start at around the same time. ¡ªEven if you ask, I¡¯m going to deny all responsibility. ¡ªNo, my fireball did not go up 10 meters, before crashing down into the forest No one is around to prove otherwise. Part 4 So after turning my back on the forest fire¡ªwhich was started by someone who wasn¡¯t me¡ªI flew to as high as I could, and tried getting an understanding of the geography. I wanted to get an understanding of how this world looked from above, but of course I could only go so high. Still, I managed to get a mental map of the area. In general the surroundings are forest, with very uneven hills, and some mountains in the distance. I also could see the city I had left, and for the first time noticed that the city was right pretty close to an ocean. Or is it a sea? If I was a human, maybe I¡¯d be able to buy a map¡ Putting those kinds of negative thoughts aside, I pushed myself towards the mountains. In fantasy, it seems dragons are known for living in mountains and caverns, so I imagine there shouldn¡¯t be much difference here. But reality shouldn¡¯t be that simple, right? But what will I do when I find them? Surely they wouldn¡¯t just kill me or something right? Oddly, I don¡¯t seem to feel anything like ¡°territorial instincts¡±. At least, I don¡¯t seem to want to mark a piece of land as my own, or steal a bunch of gold and jewels. I do have this thought of ¡°keeping what¡¯s mine as mine¡±, and ¡°kill anyone who disrespects me¡±. Scary scary¡ So how does Dragon culture work I wonder? I wonder if there are any suitable mates? ¡ ¡ What am I thinking? No, surely a human girl would be best. Yes, lets ask the dragons if there¡¯s something like a ¡°human form¡±. Probably not, but I really want to be able to have fun with human girls. See? I¡¯m still sexually attracted to humans¡ªas proof, just look between my legs. ¡ªEh? Oh¡ Looks like I do have a dick¡ I think that¡¯s what it is¡
Author Notes: So there''s that. Anyways, I''ll try to keep this updated at a steady pace, while working out some things. At the moment there''s no semblance of a plot, and seems to just be the MC just dicking around. That''s kinda what it''s going to be for a while, and the MC just ends up dragged into stuff while doing so. The humor isn''t top-tier or anything, and a lot of it so far is dick jokes. Anyways, I''ve taken everyone''s suggestions into consideration (doesn''t mean to stop; keep suggesting if you wish) but I stopped responding to them to keep myself from giving away too much. If you want to know something I left out, or even spoilers for what may happen (assuming I have that far ahead thought out) go ahead and ask. Chapter 2: Dragons Part 1 As it turns out, I did not find any dragons, simply by going to the mountain range. That said, I did smell something that felt like dragons. A small group of them. But I my lack of experience meant I didn¡¯t know how old the scent was, or where it came from. Well, either way, I decided to investigate the area. But I didn¡¯t find anything I wanted¡ªI¡¯m not exactly a detective, so even the clues I found were wasted on me. So I did nothing. I found a nice area in the shade, and just laid down for a while. Truly, lazy is best¡ ¡ªBut magic is pretty cool to. With that affirmation, I put myself to work. I looked for an area in the mountains that had very few life, and when I was content with an ideal location, I began to practice. Practice breathing fire of course. From the moment I was born into this world, I instinctively knew how to use fire magic. Sort of. More specifically, I knew how to breath fire on command. There were two forms my breath could take: The first was what I did earlier; I create a ball of fire and shoot it forward. The second is more like a flame thrower, with a large spread. For me, it¡¯s like smiling; you don¡¯t really think of all the muscles that go into it¡ªyou just do it. But this was my first time consciously using fire, and after some experimenting, I learned I could break down the ¡°muscles¡± I use. Basically, I can see the inner workings of my magic. I learned that I could break down the construction process, and was able to freely control wind even. With a bit of tweaking, I even got my flame to come out light blue¡ªthe sign of a clean flame according to my science teacher. The hell is this kind of cheat? Do all dragons have this kind of power over magic? Hell, a bit more tweaking, and I can control both Earth and Water. Shooting fireballs isn¡¯t enough¡ªI can guide them as long as I¡¯m conscious of them. This magic stuff is rather convenient. And my reserves of magic power seem to be huge. But then, shouldn¡¯t a full-grown dragon be able to do this much? ¡ ¡ Why aren¡¯t Dragons ruling the world? Part 2 As I was experimenting with trying to make my fire stronger, I felt something. Dragons, actually. While I was melting various boulders, it seemed some dragons had gathered nearby. No, that wasn¡¯t it. I felt magic used by a dragon. A lot of it. Rather than gathering nearby, it seems like they were further up north, and their use of magic let me sense them. So out of curiosity I headed north. When I got there, I saw two dragons fighting, with several others watching. Or rather, only a few were watching, while others were minding their own business. There seems to be something like a Dragon camp, atop a very high plateau. Looking at the surrounding terrain, it didn¡¯t feel like humans would have an easy time reaching this place. The structure of the camp seems to show there¡¯s some kind of hierarchy among dragons, now that I look closely. Looking from above, it seems like the larger dragons are towards the center, and smaller ones are towards the edge. However, dragons smaller than me look to be scattered through-out. In total, I spot about 70 dragons, not including the younger ones. Is this a hierarchy based on age? Well, there are some dragons whose size don¡¯t match the area they¡¯re in, so maybe it¡¯s about strength? So the leader of this group has his rest area at the center, and everyone else is made to spread out. around him. As for the two dragons that were fighting, they were each the size of a 1 floor house. Holy shit they¡¯re huge. They were exchanging slashes and trying to get a good hold on their enemy so they can bite down on them. Often, one of them will use their fire-breath attack, but because a Dragon¡¯s scales are practically fire-proof, it only serves as a distraction or warning. Still, it looks like fire still feels hot to them, so it¡¯s not like it¡¯s completely useless. Are they fighting for control of this group? Ah, whatever. I decided to land, and investigate, being sure to land around the Dragons that best fit my size, to be safe. It doesn¡¯t seem like any of them care though, and only take a few glances in my direction, before moving along. It seems my size is the ¡°average¡± among the dragons here, with about 50 of them being my size or smaller. I don¡¯t know how old they are, but I assume that for Dragons, they¡¯re pretty young. Possibly at the earliest stages of adulthood. As I wander the camp, a feeling washes over me. Something like an intent? I look towards the source of it, and there¡¯s a dragon staring back at me. She looks at me with a bit of interest, and makes her way to something that looks like a nest. How do I know it¡¯s a her? Instinct I guess. Ah, and this ¡°feeling¡± seems to be her intent to mate. Eh? Doesn¡¯t the man usually broadcast their desire to ¡°mate¡±¡? Well I guess Dragons don¡¯t care about such things. ¡¸Not interested,¡¹ Seemed to flow from my mind naturally. Well, I kinda imitated what this dragon did to me. It seems she sent her thoughts and feelings at me via a pulse of magic, so I did the same¡ªexcept that I ended up attaching words to my thoughts. She replied in disappointment, and just began to look for another mate. What¡¯s this? ¡ªIt seems I had a misconception about the Dragons in this world. I had assumed I was a standard. I thought perhaps dragons were sentient like me. It made sense to me. My mind hasn¡¯t deteriorated or anything, so this brain of mine can clearly hold conscious thought. The dragons around me seem to be the same kind as me too. My magic power seems to dwarf the average Dragon, but that¡¯s probably thanks to the summoning. The dragons up the chain look like their mana is even larger. And now that I notice it, within the dual of the two dragons, the two are only using their firebreath. No other kind of magic. Is it that they can¡¯t feel and reconstruct magic the same way I can? Or perhaps they don¡¯t have the ego and forethought to do so. In either case, it seems the dragons here interact like animals, and don¡¯t have a concept of planning and such. Not long-term anyways. Well, I decided to stay here for the time being, and went up to a dragon to speak with him. Or rather, I ¡°asked¡± about the ¡°group¡±, and the ¡°young¡±. Those seem to be the only thoughts he cared for, and my other words were unneeded fluff. So he politely explained to the best of his understanding. The way he expressed it to me was through memories and conceptual ideas. But the idea seemed pretty rough, and unfocused. In no particular order, this is what I came to understand: As I thought, I¡¯m a rather young dragon. About the same age as my human body¡ªDragons sure do grow up fast. I¡¯m right at the point before I reach a steep drop in my growth. I¡¯ll probably grow another another foot in height over the next year, before my growth becomes a crawl. Still, a Dragon¡¯s fully mature height is about 10 meters, 5 times my current size. But that¡¯s not until I¡¯m in my triple digits. This is just my guess anyways; these dragons don¡¯t have a concept of numbers, so measuring time with them is a guestimation. It also seems that until you reach about 30 to 50, you have a high chance at dying. While Dragons are strong, they still have enemies like Griffins and Phoenixes, on top of the regular subjugations that Humans perform. Phoenixes are pretty rare though, and are typically alone, but are extremely powerful. It seems they hate Dragons for one reason or another, and don¡¯t hesitate to kill them given the chance. The larger dragons tend to be able to survive this kind of punishment, but it typically ends with those among my age receiving high deaths. Griffins are more common, but not as powerful. They hunt as a pack (or was it a pride?) so they¡¯re able to capture careless dragons while they¡¯re out hunting. It seems Dragons have a bigger hate for Griffin''s than Phoenixes. Like I predicted, the arrangement of the camp is by hierarchy, and that¡¯s based on power. Because older dragons are more experienced, and stronger, they¡¯re naturally at the top. However, I figured I could probably reach there pretty soon, if I practice my magic and fighting a bit more. That said, the young that are still nursed by their parents are allowed to stay with them¡ªyeah, I was pretty surprised that Dragons cared for their young into adulthood. Were they really just animals, I wonder? Part 3 That answer I found was ¡°kind of.¡± Ah, before that, it¡¯s been a week since I found the Dragon camp. They really do just live here peacefully. They occasionally go out to hunt food, but not too often. The younger dragons usually go out hunting in groups though, because of the Griffins. I¡¯ve gone out hunting a few times, and we encountered Griffins. There, I showed off my great battle ability, by using magic that the other Dragons hardly understood. I¡¯m able to one-shot Griffins by creating a rapidly spinning blue fireball, that¡¯s able to pierce right through them. The other dragons have tried imitating me, and it¡¯s scary that they managed to actually do it. Though, they haven¡¯t learned how to make their fire blue¡ªI¡¯ll keep that one to myself. Despite their behaviour, they¡¯re scary smart. Incidentally, I ranked up through this society of dragons. What I¡¯ve learned in the last week is that the dragons can learn quickly. But their thought processes are only at the level of a child, even among the older dragons. I learned there was a reason for that too. But I¡¯m unable to do anything about that, and really, I¡¯m scared of what will happen if I try. Even so, Dragons are pretty social creatures it seems. The reason I didn¡¯t feel a need to protect a territory, was because individual dragons aren¡¯t territorial, but they are as a flock. There is the occasionally greedy solo dragon, but generally, between allies they¡¯re very sharing, but outside of that, they¡¯ll rip your throat out for taking their gold. This novel is published on a different platform. Support the original author by finding the official source. Oh, and it seems we do like shiny things. I guess I didn¡¯t realize it until I saw the decorative equipment they looted from the corpses of adventurers and soldiers, and stashed within a hidden cavern, on the cliff-side. It¡¯s really pretty, how could I not like it? On a completely unrelated note¡ª Dragon sex is awkward. I was kind of depressed when I saw I didn¡¯t have a dick, but it seems Dragons in this world have it hidden inside themselves until they need it. Technically it¡¯s not a dick, and doesn¡¯t look like a human¡¯s at all, but it sure felt like one. Anyways, my aversion to mating with dragons disappeared after a day or two, it seems. But it was still weird as all hell. Especially trying to convince my mate to not just do it openly with everyone around. I still have these thoughts about getting with human girls, but like this it¡¯s impossible, huh? Well¡ maybe not physically impossible, anyways. Still, I¡¯m quite sated after just a couple¡ interactions. Well anyways, Dragons seem to be polyamorous. That¡¯s to say, they have more than one partner. But most male dragons try to keep it under 5 partners, because they¡¯re still expected to care for their young, and any more is too hard for them to keep track of. Now, one might look at me and think I¡¯ve committed something like beastiality, but can you really blame me in this situation? It¡¯s not like it¡¯s easy to ignore this need to mate. Now that I¡¯ve done it though, I don¡¯t think I¡¯ll be going around randomly anymore. I thought about leaving, but where would I go exactly? Dragons in this world seem no smarter than the griffins, who themselves are like any other animal. I would be an abnormality in this world, and few humans would actually give me assistance. Well, I didn¡¯t mind. Learning about the dragons was interesting enough, and so was practicing my magic. My patience seems to have sky-rocketed in this new body of mind. Well anyways, currently I was hunting with a group of 3 other dragons my age. In the last two days I hadn¡¯t encountered a single Griffin, so I was a bit relaxed. We were searching the area for the various wild life available, and sheeps seemed to be the most common source of food. It¡¯s pretty tasty actually. We quickly managed to pluck 1 sheep each from a herd as we swooped down for our capture. Honestly, it¡¯s more like fishing than hunting. One sheep was good enough for several dragons. If we were attacked by Griffins, it was possible to kill and take them instead, seeing how they can feed even more. Ultimately I prefer the taste of sheep, but Griffin isn¡¯t bad either, and has a nice satisfying sensation when I consume their mana. I wonder what human tastes like~ Ah, no no! Bad thoughts, bad! ¡ªMaybe if they piss me off. Anyways, the meat isn¡¯t for us (even I¡¯ve taken a bite or two). It¡¯s for the children you see? Well, I don¡¯t have any yet, but you see, Dragons don¡¯t have to eat much, other than to grow. Beyond that, our mana acts as a source of food and we can probably go ages without a bite to eat. But we won¡¯t grow in size, and our physical strength won¡¯t increase much either, without the needed protein. As such, it seems that when a dragon reaches the age of 10, their appetite seems to all but vanish, and eating is almost superficial. That¡¯s probably also why a lot of the dragons in this camp are close to the same size. So rather than saying we take a long time to grow after this size, it¡¯s more accurate to say that we lose the need to grow. ¡ Hmm? There¡¯s some peculiar magic being used in this area of the woods¡ª As I investigate, I realize that it seems to be some kind of space magic. Oh? Using my magic sense, I notice the existence of some sort of shape-shifting creature. A slime? A Mimic slime? What a bizarre creature. It¡¯s using magic to change its cells into that of an insects. What¡¯s more, its real body is a hundred times the insect¡¯s size¡ª Interesting. The slime has something like an inventory that it stuffs the rest of its body into, huh? Quite the camouflage. While I can understand the concept, it¡¯s difficult for me to actually perform the transformation. It¡¯s like asking me if I can understand a large math problem, and then telling me to solve it without looking, or writing. Now multiply that a few times over in difficulty. And even if I did, changing back would be close to impossible. Actually, I think that copying the Slime¡¯s magic would hurt excruciatingly. The Mimic Slime is built for this kind of magic, the same way Dragons are built for fire-magic. But the reverse is not true; A dragon is not build for transformation magic, the same way a slime is not built for fire magic. Well, creating the pocket-dimension was within my ability though. Funny how that works. This will come in handy. The rest, I¡¯ll think of an alternative later. If I¡¯m still interested. The rest of the trip back to the camp was uneventful. Later, when I tried teaching a couple of the more keen dragons the pocket-dimension magic, it didn¡¯t seem they could understand some of my abstract thoughts. Or rather, they didn¡¯t understand the need for this kind of magic, so they only half-heartedly ¡°listened¡±. Well that¡¯s fine. I managed to bind the pocket-dimension to my magic power, and like that I gained a personal inventory.
Author Notes: This probably betrayed a lot of your expectations. I''m aware a lot of you expected dragons to be sentient from the start. This point that Dragons were animal-like was decided when I first wrote the Prologue. The reason for them being like that was also decided. Yes, there''s a reason. Sailos Kingdom summoned a Dragon, because they expected a beast that they could tame. They didn''t predict it would escape, because they didn''t think a Dragon would even know how a door looked like. So it crashing through the door was outside their expectation. If it were to stay and fight, they would have been able to subdue the dragon, and use the control collars. Anyways, I already have Chapter 3 written, but will probably hold off on posting until tomorrow, to get an idea of how people take this chapter. Jason is already OP, thanks to the fact that Dragons in this world have full control of magic, and his knowledge of chemistry and physics¡ªeven if it''s at a middle school level. On top of that are the enhancements granted to him by the Hero summoning. As always, feedback and suggestions are always appreciated. Here''s an general explanation on how magic works as a whole. (posted on page 3) Spoiler : Magic Energy, or mana in this world is a source of energy that on its own doesn''t do a thing. It needs magic or some kind of special event for it to do anything. It ultimately can transform into any other energy, and alter space and time as a whole. Magic itself is omnipotent, and could do anything. The limitation is if your body can use magic in a certain way. I like to compare things to computers, so I''m going to be using a few computer-related terms to describe it. Humans, Demi-Humans, and animals have a different "interface" in how they interact with magic. Their bodies naturally contain mana, and there''s magic active inside their bodies to use it, but the "mechanisms" and "programs" that use it are all subtly different. You can even think of some of these mechanisms like Drivers to use certain devices. The "programs" Humans have access to are "Elements". These Elemental systems let them use certain types of magic, without them needing to know how that magic actually affects the universe. Their magic allows them to use the Four Classical elements, Fire, Air, Water, and Earth. However, magic diagrams can be drawn up with special ink that has traces "Magic Stone" dissolved into it. These Magic Diagrams can then be used to perform virtually any kind of magic, including those outside of the four elements, so long as you can draw the right patterns and symbols, and fuel your own magic into the diagram. These diagrams can be drawn on scrolls, or more commonly "Magic Items". Many other creatures are different. Some creatures only have access to one or two elements, or they can only use magic a certain way. Like the Mimic slime in this chapter is only able to use its inventory to store its own body inside of, or Phoenixes can control fire at will, and automatically use their mana to repair their bodies, even after death, but can''t use magic for anything else (unless they use a Magic Diagram/Circle. Dragons however are even more different from even that. By default, a Dragon''s "Magic Interface" is built to shoot fire from its mouth, and this is entwined in their instincts. But they''re also able to perceive magic like any other sense (other creatures can as well, some even better than dragons) and can freely use their mana to perform any kind of magic, as long as they understand it. Ultimagely, Magic is omnipotent, but it has rules and limitations, because people who use it are not omniscient, and can''t understand how magic works. For instance, it''s possible to "conjure" water, in one of three ways; either directly converting mana into matter, gather existing water from the area, or alter reality and probability so that the universe assumes there was always water to begin with. The first option would destroy the world in an instant, because directly creating matter also creates anti-matter, and would also take more mana than any one person has. The second option will probably be the most used, but it requires there to be enough water to begin with. The third option would technically be best, but then you have to understand how quantum mechanics work. Chapter 3: Knights Part 1 And it¡¯s been a month since I was summoned into this world. Time sure flies¡ We dragons are long-lived creatures, but our memory is pretty amazing considering. I thought perhaps our memory would be shallow, or only remembering relevant things, but that didn¡¯t seem to be the case. While I don¡¯t feel myself becoming excessively bored with the flow of time, I still retain a good memory of all my time doing nothing. I quite enjoyed the solitude I received every once and a while, while also having fun playing with some of the younger dragons. I¡¯m already referring to myself as a dragon¡ªthough I don¡¯t really see myself as part of the group, and some of the other dragons seem to think the same way. Well, if I still held a human brain, I would find a lot of what I¡¯m doing boring. Or I just wouldn¡¯t remember most of it, because of how inconsequential it is. Incidentally, it seems like my first eggs were laid by a mate. I mentioned before, but we dragons are polyamorous. As such, we don¡¯t stop with just one partner, and that seems to apply for both sides. Of the 3 dragons I decided to mate with, only one of them ended up laying my eggs¡ It¡¯s only 2 eggs though. The other two females laid someone else¡¯s eggs apparently. Despite already adapting to this Dragon ¡°culture¡±, I don¡¯t really have any comprehension of beauty in regards to dragons. I thus decided to choose my mate based on the scale of their magic power, so I ended up with three of the females with the highest amount. (Only the second highest one actually ended up with my eggs though) This method seems to be the best choice from a biological point of view. Eh? Could it be I already unknowingly chose a mate like a Dragon would? Well, from my observation, the other dragons seem to be picking based on physical power, and factoring magic in second, but it¡¯s the same idea of wanting to get stronger offspring. Well anyways, I don¡¯t know what to think. Other than those first few times, I don¡¯t really have the urge to have sex. Actually, I only did it because I was excited, but now I¡¯m rather embarrassed being told I have an egg. After all, I never actually had sex in my previous life. Eh? What the hell am I doing? I-i¡¯m not really going to play parent now, am I? I¡ªI¡¯m not ready! I¡¯m just a child! 13 is much too young¡ª Ah, I know, an¡ an abor¡ª No no no no¡ stop thinking like that, dammit. Hmmm, according to what my mate said, it should take a few months before the eggs actually hatch. I don¡¯t know an exact time though. Either way, it seems we¡¯re taking turns caring for them, which consists of giving them warmth, and occasionally feeding them magic. I know these are mine by scent of course. And not just smell, but the magic power inside the egg matches mine. Speaking of smell¡ Is that the smell of humans? And quite a lot of scents too¡ Just when I was getting settled in too. I wonder what kind of development this will lead to though~ Part 2 ¡°Hah, coming all this way for something like this,¡± I listened to the murmuring around me. Most of it was complaints of course. I wish to turn around and correct their behavior¡ªit goes against etiquette before a battle¡ªbut I do not have the authority to do so. Even so, I agree with the sentiment¡ªthis force is a bit much for a simple subjugation. It took weeks to travel here, and the mountains made it no less difficult. We haven¡¯t been informed on the details, however there are rumors flying around that it has to do with the Dragon that was seen in the capital, just days ago. When I heard this rumor, I became rather anxious. I was among the many participants of the so-called ¡°Beast Summoning¡±, so I was aware that this dragon was rather powerful. It was capable of destroying massive stone doors, and still made an escape as if nothing happened. When I think that, perhaps a force of three thousand (3,000) is just enough. But I dare not tell my surroundings. Only a few of the mages here are aware of the botched ¡°HeroBeast Summoning¡±, which was kept as a national secret. If I were to divulge this information to anyone before the information is made officially public, or without permission from a suitable official, my heart would be stopped via the contract binding. It almost stops anyways, when I overhear the scout¡¯s report¡ªa number of dragons were seen in the vicinity. When that report is made clear, only then are the circumstances explained. ¡°Atop that plateau is a gathering of dragons, numbering in the hundreds,¡± the Knight Commander shouted as he brought his horse to the front, and pointed towards one of the nearby mountains. ¡°The beasts there are responsible for harassing and assaulting the nearby villages, so we have decided to destroy the camp.¡± He goes on to explain some of the rough details, including ¡°We intend to capture any of the younger dragons, and collect the dragon eggs.¡± There was no need to explain reasons. Merely the mission at hand. Any soldier here would assume that this is merely subjugation, and monster domestication. It made sense. The Kingdom probably did intend to cultivate the captured eggs to raise a Dragon Riding force, similar to what the Republic has done. But that was probably just extra. They likely also wanted to capture the dragon they had summoned a month prior. That one would certainly be much more powerful compared to other dragons its own age, and thus be more useful. As proof of this intent, I had heard no such rumor of dragons attacking humans in this area. And neither had any of the soldiers. Even so, Three Thousand soldiers against hundreds of dragons should not be impossible. Thus we began our attack. Part 3 A number of dragons returned to explain the situation as they understand it. It¡¯s an army of humans coming to attack us, of course. I thought perhaps it would be an army passing by as they headed for a nearby border, but no such luck. They were headed almost directly for this mountain. They had stopped some distance away for a few minutes, and then continued their march here. I suggested sending dragons with a strong breath to thin their numbers before they reach the mountain. That way we can finish them on territory we¡¯re familiar with, as they try to scale the mountain Like that, a number of large dragons move out, and blast large balls of flame down at the clusters of humans. Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation. I thought that would be enough, but it seems they retaliated in time, using a combination of earth magic to disrupt the flames, and wind magic to blow them away before they can reach. Still, they couldn¡¯t stop all the fireballs, and at least a third of them made it past their defenses. I watched from the plateau with my keen eyesight of course. Even among dragons, my eyesight is amazing. Perhaps a result of the summoning? After the first wave of fireballs, a second wave came in, but this time only one or two managed to hit the ground. We considered sending out a third wave, but as we were preparing that, a storm cloud was formed overhead. That¡¯s not a natural formation is it? In fact, it¡¯s nearly pitch black, and centered above this plateau. That doesn¡¯t look good. The clouds are really condensing¡ ¡ I decide to casually pick up my eggs, and shove them into my inventory. And then¡ª ¡ªlike most of the more sensible dragons ¡ªI get the fuck out of there. ¡ ¡ And like that, a massive bolt of lightning illuminates the surroundings in an instant. I probably should have been paying attention to the magic some of the people below were using. That shit is scary. When I look back, I see some of dragons were killed and injured. The rest are enraged, and forget my earlier suggestion entirely, before flying down to fight directly. ¡ Hmm? Me? I just watched from afar of course. What, you think I¡¯m gonna get into a fight with an army that huge? Please, that army is over-kill. ¡ Oh? Looks like a lot of them are using my attacks. Specifically the spinning fireball. Heh~ That¡¯s pretty scary. And it¡¯s moving too fast for most of the mages to defend against. Perhaps this might actually be an even fight? If the dragons had more numbers anyways. Well, even though I have an above average mana capacity among dragons, they¡¯re still quite powerful. There are a number of explosions going on around the battlefield, as a result of the sped up fireballs. Unfortunately, they can¡¯t replicate the same power-output I can, seeing how they don¡¯t understand natural phenomena. Still, a dragon¡¯s power is scary. No wonder they¡¯re sealed. ¡ Well, it doesn¡¯t seem the dragons are done just yet either. Tenacious creatures, they are. Still, the humans weren¡¯t prepared for this kind of attack, and the bombardment is thinning their numbers. Or so I thought¡ªit looks like a number of humans are quickly adapting to the change of circumstance. I decided to stick around and observe who would win this scuffle ¡ Hmmm, will the eggs come out alright if they develop in 0 Gs? I should tweak the inventory later. Eh, I¡¯ll use this free time to do it. Part 4 Where did that come from!? This new attack?! I¡¯ve never heard of dragons using anymore than the usual fire breath and fireball! So fast¡ªwe don¡¯t even have the time to try and intercept most of them. I regain my bearings after surviving an explosion from nearby, and scan the skies. I need to be able to predict the moment the fire comes¡ªif it¡¯s even possible¡ A Blue Dragon? It¡¯s not fighting; merely looking down at us, as if mocking us. Is that perhaps the summoned dragon? He looks just like the Dragon from before. Could he have taught the other dragons this ability? Is this the power of the Hero Summoning?! In the past, Heros have come to teach us various methods of combat and war, among other things, but perhaps this fireball attack is something dragons use in the world that one was summoned from? We had hoped to elicit the dragons into fighting us directly, realizing just how dangerous it would be to start a fight on their terrain, however the Commander likely did not expect this sort of attack, that we can¡¯t even defend against. For dragons to hold this sort of power¡ªwas that dragon related to the Dragon God of his world? Could Sailos have unwittingly brought on the end of days? No, I shall ponder this after I survive. The dragons have commenced their assault once more, and my allies can¡¯t handle them all alone. I focus magic into my left hand, and steady my blade with my right¡ªas a Magic Knight of Sailos, I shall not fall to mere hatchlings such as these! As a dragon approaches, it hurls a ball of fire at my squad, and I swing my left hand, commanding the wind to shatter it! Being an elite, using magic without key-phrase is only natural. The dragon is not discourages however, as it inhales, before spewing out a fall of flame from its mouth. I¡¯m not prepared for this in time, but luckily, the magician in my squad blocks the flames using the water from a jar he carries around. The thin sheet of water he creates around us managed to block the oncoming flames, as the dragon flew over head. Arrows began to fly, as I noticed that our forces had recovered from the shock, and prepared the offensive. Dragonhide is very thick, and difficult to pierce with mere arrows. However these arrows are enchanted by wind magic, and are enough to at least cut through their wings. The idea is simple; if we can ground the beasts, it¡¯ll be an easier fight. Still, this many archers isn¡¯t enough. My wind magic however is enough to ground the incoming dragon, by destroying the lift he received from his wings. Confused for only a moment, the dragon immediately fired several balls of flame at me, which I managed to deflect with wind, as I closed the distance between us. All Magic Knights are trained first in sword, second in magic. Thus my offensive magic never feels like it¡¯s the optimal choice. Even so, my blade manages to cut into the neck of the dragon as he tried to snap at me. If it¡¯s only this many dragons, we should still be able to win, if that Blue Dragon continues to float in the sky as he is doing now.
Author Notes And that was a thing. Though I said before that I have some plot in mind, the truth is I''m making it up as I go along, and only have the lore, and a rough idea of where I''m headed. A very very rough idea. While I haven''t directly used ideas presented (that I wasn''t going to use already), some comments have at least influenced me one way or another. Yesterday I said I had Chapter 3 written, but then decided to rewrite the second half, and added some more. Chapter 4: Overwhelming Force Author Notes: I tried putting the POV at the start of each part. Tell me what you think, I suppose? Part 1¡ªJason I was really expecting the dragons to all die here. There were about 85 Dragons that were able to fight from the start, but that number was quickly dropped to just under 20. This doesn¡¯t include the dragons too much younger than myself, of course. Still, I did not expect the remaining dragons to imitate my attack. They couldn¡¯t get the same heat or power, but they didn¡¯t need it. With large exploding balls of flame flying everywhere, it decimated the human army. That said, it left the dragons in a exhaustion. They couldn¡¯t fight much more, and a few of them still died in the process. One of the older dragons issued an order of retreat. The dragons gathered the young they could take, and took off. ¡ Hmm? That ending seems a bit rushed, doesn¡¯t it? Well I guess dragons aren¡¯t stupid; just a bit¡ªinhibited. Fighting a losing battle is silly. Still, I wanted to see more. But I at least understand human magic now. Fire, Water, Earth and Air magic. Huh, isn¡¯t this a bit cliche? Well I did see some healing magic, but I don¡¯t know what that falls into. There¡¯s probably more magic I¡¯m not familiar with. Perhaps I¡¯ll ask a human. Well, after receiving that many casualties, it seemed the humans were ready to leave too. ¡ Hmmm? They¡¯re not leaving? Ah looks like they captured at least 3 of the younger dragons who tried to fight¡ªwas that their end goal? Well, I guess if you failed summoning a single strong dragon, gather an army of regular dragons, huh? It would take a while to tame and raise them but the end result would probably be better anyways. And like I thought, the army progressed towards the plateau that the dragons had made their camp¡ªseriously, what do you call a group of Dragons? A flock? A pride? A pack? ¡ªI¡¯m just going with ¡°camp¡±, because it would be too generous to call it a village. Well, I decided to watch from a high cloud, after I saw the other dragons leave¡ But¡ªThere¡¯s a Knight chick who keeps looking over her shoulder towards the cloud I¡¯m in. Does she know I¡¯m here? Well that¡¯s fine. Judging by the power of these humans, it doesn¡¯t look like they have anything that can reach me up here faster than I can dodge. ¡ Still¡ ¡ ¡ªThis kinda rubs me the wrong way, ya know? Don¡¯t get me wrong¡ªI don¡¯t have any emotional attachment to the other dragons, despite the fact that my emotions seem to be mostly intact. (At least I think they are?) But I kinda feel like I my home is being invaded by a bunch of thugs. Even if those thugs have fancy shiny armor and represent a Kingdom¡ªyou get the idea. At least back home I can refuse a cop who wants to enter my house unless he has a warrant. ¡ Eh? They¡¯re going up the mountain from the left side? Well that¡¯s natural, it looks like the easiest path up¡ª ¡ ¡ªWhy am I bothered by that, I wonder? ¡ Oh¡ That¡¯s why¡ Get the fuck away from that¡ª! Part 2¡ªMagic Knight Our casualties were as one would expect after facing off against dragons. Though the Commander earlier said there would be hundreds, most of them were cubs barely fit to fight. Three of the ones that did attempt to fight were captured, however we couldn¡¯t capture any more than that, as they all decided to retreat. Our scouts reported there would be more cubs up ahead, who didn¡¯t participate in the battle, so we began our trek towards the mountain. The majority of our forces were left behind to be treated for injuries, while the rest of the survivors continued towards the intended plateau. Using Earth magic, we found the easiest path for our forces to scale the mountain. Even so, if the dragons were to return now, we would certainly be at a disadvantage, with our lack of footing. Still, I continued to be vigilant, looking back towards the Blue Dragon who had hidden himself among the clouds. Even now, I still see his bright blue scales that show themselves as the clouds flow around him. Perhaps it¡¯s intuition, but it feels this one doesn¡¯t care for us. If he did, he would have already attacked. Probably. I still question myself for not reporting his appearance to a higher officer, however. ¡°Hey, we found a cave!¡± My wind magic carried the shout of one the soldiers further ahead shout out¡ªsomehow, I have a bad feeling about this¡ªlike a premonition or bad omen. ¡°Wha¡ªit¡¯s treasure!¡± I hear another shout, which seemed to echo. As I hike up along the path stabilized by Earth magic, the entrance of the cave comes into view from my angle. Of course we¡¯d find something like that. Dragons are long known to have a desire to collect precious metals and jewels. Though some legends exaggerate how much a single dragon will hoard, if there¡¯s a large gathering of dragons, you¡¯ll find a stash of their collective treasure not too far away. ¡ªAh! I got distracted! I turn around to confirm the feeling I had¡ªas I thought, the Blue Dragon is descending! Greedy thing¡ªit doesn¡¯t participate in the battle, but as soon as we touch its treasure, it comes into to attack! I draw my sword, and prepare my magic¡ªas I do, the soldiers around me look back, and spot the dragon before drawing their own swords. I feel that we should be fine against a single dragon, even with the limited space¡ªuntil I spot the blue ball of fire, headed for the people further up ahead. The earth mages manage to bring up a barrier in time, but the impact creates visible cracks while the scorching heat nearly vaporizes the rest. The earthen wall has become red hot, and seems to even be melting. ¡ªIt would take a high level mage to combat this dragon! Before I know it, the molten rock that was used to construct the wall, is then propelled into the sky at high velocity. Of course, I forget that we have plenty of those among our ranks. If it¡¯s just one dragon, this much should be fine. Then I witness something I have only heard in legends¡ª ¡ªHoly Fire. Part 3¡ªJason Hmmm? They managed to block my blue flames huh? Eh? Oh shit shit shit! I barely managed to dodge those bullets there¡ªthat¡¯s pretty smart; using earth to block my attacks, and then shooting it at me like that. Eh? Fuck-fuck-fuck! That¡¯s hot! It seems my flame actually melted the stone a bit¡ªeven though I dodged the ¡°lava-ball¡±, bits of it flew off, and stuck onto my scales. Of course, using my magic I pushed the molten bits of stone off of me. Still, they kinda pissed me off. ¡ªOk. Time to reveal my secret weapon! I may not be some kind of genius or anything, but I do remember the majority of what was taught in class. If I ever see him again, I¡¯ll thank last year¡¯s science teacher. ¡ªFirst, I open my inventory, and quickly extract a mass of metallic powder, and then purified the oxygen in the air, like I usually do for my fireballs. Upon ignition, three white, burning balls of flame are formed, and I quickly repel them forwards. Magnesium¡ªLast year, my science teacher brought in several ribbons of the stuff, and let us burn it over a bunsen burner. Magnesium burns white, and I think I remember the teacher saying it burns at a few thousand degrees. Until now, I¡¯ve been using the hydrogen and carbon in the air to create propane and ethane as fuel. However, I¡¯ve also been gathering magnesium through the use of my magic, and turning them into fine powder to maximize their use. You can probably call it a trump card? But the mages down below are pretty quick witted too, huh? They already build up a new wall, using the hard earth of the mountain, while another set of mages layered the earth wall with a water wall¡ªthat¡¯s a bad idea by the way~ Don¡¯t you know? Magnesium turns water into its base components, so water just makes the flame stronger¡ªas evidence, the white ball of fire exploded with even more ferocity than it normally would have! The earth wall was melted through of course. I do have enough magnesium for a few dozen fireballs like that one, but I decided to save up¡ªcollecting and filtering earth is super tedious, you know? From there, I fired another volley of blue fireballs, but most of them seemed to be block. As I¡¯m trying to get people away from my precious, I don¡¯t even pay attention to the fact I just killed a bunch of people for gold, silver and shiny metals. They would have killed me for less, you know? Still, I think I killed a good number of them; not only the ones who were around the earth wall, but the explosion also caused boulders to fall, and crushed a number of the soldiers on the pathways down below. I try firing towards areas I don¡¯t see any mages, but only about a third of my attacks make it through¡ªthe other two thirds are blocked by what I assume are Magic Knights, and wind mages that can apparently fly. Well shit guys, if you want me to use up my trump card, I just might. Well, at this rate, I¡¯ll run out of mana before anything, so I decide there¡¯s really no other choice. Once again, I conjure up a ball of white flame, before spinning it, and thrusting it forward as fast as I can, towards a group of soldiers on the cliff-side. I¡¯m still pretty high up, but even from here I can hear the explosion I created, and see that I wiped out a large number of them. Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.Hmm, maybe if I had participated in the battle earlier¡ Well I didn¡¯t feel I needed to. It was that kind of feeling from seeing two other people fight, and you just happen to be acquainted with one of them¡ªwould you risk your neck for someone you hardly know or care about? No matter, from up here they can¡¯t really touch me¡ªbut I don¡¯t have enough mana to go on forever. Still, I shoot forth another ball of burning magnesium towards the knights closest to the entrance. Well, at least I get to keep the shiny things to myself, right? Part 4¡ªMagic Knight Our forces were being decimated! The single dragon stayed too far for our archers to even touch, and our mages couldn¡¯t use magic fast enough to hit him. The situation was further complicated by the fact that half of us were unable to retreat. The majority of our mages who specialized in Earth magic were already wiped out, and the White flames destroyed our escape route down the cliffside. It didn¡¯t help that even with water, the Holy flames merely grew stronger. There were legends that the Heavenly God Ethorn once used White Holy Fire to clear away even his most powerful enemies. Flames that could not be defended against, and would burn all away until they were content. No one here thought they would ever be on the receiving end of such a power. How does one defend against a fire so hot that it melts earth, so fast that the wind does little to stray its path, and so ravenous that even water¡ªrather than quelch it¡ªexcites it further? Before I knew it, half of our forces were nearly completely annihilated. The dragon seemed to have little interest in our injured who were left behind, and only attacked those who advanced towards the plateau. Was that it? If we fall back, will it cease its attacks? But we can¡¯t simply run away. We¡¯d be shamed until our graves and beyond¡ªif this were a normal dragon that is. But after seeing this much, I¡¯ve confirmed that this is the summoned dragon from before. Heroes, when summoned into this world almost always have overwhelming power compared to most people. To add to this, they will continue to grow beyond the limits of others, even passed their youthful prime. A dragon bestowed with such power could no doubt perform this sort of spectacle. The Knight Commander likely knows as much, but because that was our target from the start, he won¡¯t retreat. But what can we do? We have sent out our mages capable of flight, but they are not fairing so well. I thought it would be best for them to try and ground him, but it seems this dragon is smart enough to resist such magic. But it seems he¡¯s at least having trouble keeping up with our mages¡ªalmost as if he¡¯s not use to fighting while flying. He¡¯s yet to strike down one of them, but similarly they can barely harm him. This would be a good time to retreat, but instead the Knight Commander pushes us ahead while the dragon is distracted. He likely wants to get us onto the plateau where we¡¯ll have better footing¡ªbut if we retreated instead there was the possibility the dragon would merely ignore us afterwards, and the commander likely realized this as well. If the dragon were to retreat now, the mission to capture him would have failed¡ªa summoned dragon bestowed with the blessing of Heroes is much more valuable than a few hundred dragon eggs, or even the lives of this force. ¡°We¡¯ve already lost too many¡ªa few more won¡¯t matter,¡± is likely the sort of bet that our lives have been wagered on. It¡¯s a war potential we simply can¡¯t deny. Part 5 Mmmm¡ I was really quite enjoying myself for a moment there. Then came the flying mages, who also carries with them boulders and such. Aren¡¯t humans not supposed to fly? Isn¡¯t this cheating!? Get out of my skies, guys! Well¡ They¡¯re not my skies per se. Also, did that rhyme? Wow, that boulder almost hit me¡ªgotta stop dozing off like that. Still, these guys have also been trying to change the wind pressure under my wings, and even blow me to the ground. Of course, that sort of thing won¡¯t work on me, who at least understands a little bit about air pressure. I wasn¡¯t taught much about it in school yet, but I¡¯ve been doing a few tests since I got wings. Doing this much won¡¯t make me fall guys~ Well, it seems to understand that much. Still, I¡¯m having trouble actually attacking them¡ªthey¡¯re amazingly fast, and I can only see in a couple directions. I¡¯ve received a number of cuts from their wind blades, but my skin seems to be holding up. Despite all this time, I¡¯m still not completely use to flying¡ªespecially not something as thin or fast as these mages. Griffins are about my size, and are all rather thick with their lion-like bodies, and don¡¯t have the kind of maneuverability these mages do, so I don¡¯t normally have issue taking them down. But like I said, these mages are amazingly swift, rotating around me, and keeping out of my sight where I can burn them. If I wanted to escape, I could do that easily, but somehow attacking these guys is rather difficult. And I started off so good, blowing things up. ¡ªIf this goes on, I¡¯ll probably bleed to death. Ow-ow, shit, another wind blade hit my leg. They¡¯re keeping their distance, so I can use my claws on them, but they can still propel wind blades at me until I¡¯m tired. If I try fighting them on the ground, it just gives them more ammo to attack me with, and it looks like the soldiers down below are advancing up towards the plateau, and ignoring the shiny stuff¡ªso I¡¯ll also end up surrounded pretty fast. Still, I can¡¯t just leave everything behind¡ but it¡¯s not like I can¡ª¡ªcarry¡ it¡ Suddenly remembering that I can carry everything, I descend towards the plateau. Part 6¡ªMagic Knight ¡°Half of you gather that side over there. The rest of us will gather the rest.¡± My Squad was instructed to gather the mountain of gold and jewels. While I am glad I do not need to face that dragon, it annoys me that I¡¯ve been tasked with such physical labor. I¡¯m a Knight after all. Still, dragons have quite the taste in jewels¡ªI can¡¯t even fathom where many of these jewels even come from. As expected, we were given magic bags, which were enchanted by a special magic that could hold quite a large amount without gaining any weight. There was a limit in size and weight, but any less than that, and the sack would feel as if it weigh no more than as if it were empty. I was ordered to gather a large pile of jewels to the right side of the cavern. In a little under 3 minutes, we had managed to obtain all the treasure that could fit inside the sacks. However, there were a number of large statues, gilded ornaments, and decorative equipment that wouldn¡¯t fit in the small opening of our magic bags. What we could carry, we gathered together, and decided to come back for it. Ever since a minute ago, the commotion of the soldiers outside has picked up, and it looks like many of them were trying to hurry up. Did something happen? Soon after, a soldier came rushing into the cavern. He showed obvious signs of anxiety and nervousness¡ªwhat was going on now? ¡°The Dragon landed atop of the plateau! He seems to be gathering the eggs with some kind of magic¡ªwe think he¡¯ll be heading down here soon too.¡± From the side, I hear my squad captain audibly click his tongue, as he drew his sword. ¡°Then we¡¯ll corner him here, and capture the damn beast.¡± The cavern should limit his mobility, and eliminate his flight advantage. If we can ambush him, here, capturing him shouldn¡¯t pose a problem¡ª Or so I thought¡ª The cave entrance suddenly received a blast¡ªthe men outside were likely blown away, and even though most of my squad were already in position, the shock wave from the explosion disoriented me, and likely everyone else inside. My sword drops as I feel the echo of the explosion pass through me¡ª I open my eyes in time to see one of my squadmates charge the Dragon, only to be blown away by mere wind. He turns to his left where my squad captain lay unconscious, and grabs something¡ªthe magic bag¡ªand I see it disappear. He continues towards me, the next closest person. The monster gazes into my eyes¡ª Not even a meter away, I can hear its steady breath and low grumble¡ª It knows we tried to take the treasure¡ª It¡¯s going to kill us¡ª As these thoughts pass through my minds¡ I don¡¯t even notice as the floor beneath my knees becomes wet.
Author Notes: Some of you can probably see where this is going. Maybe. Anyways, I thought it''d be amusing if Jason didn''t care so much about fighting with the other dragons, but then was suddenly pushed to act when he saw them taking the hoarded gold and treasure. As a Dragon, he doesn''t have a big sense of possessions, until someone else is trying to take them. As for the eggs, he''s taking those out of spite. He doesn''t particularly care for other dragons or anything, but he also feels like foiling everything they tried to do for being annoying. Anyways, it seems I didn''t really make my magic system too clear, and people are building their own misconceptions, so I''ll explain it in the story at a later time. Chapter 5: The World Part 1 ¡°Whaa¡ª¡± Suddenly the scenery changed, and my bottom collided with the ground. My eyes were flooded with light, and as I tried to look around, I noticed I was no longer in the dark and dreary cavern¡ªas I look around, there is only tall grass for as far as I can see, and only a hint of mountains in the distant horizon. Fear still permeated my consciousness, but I noticed the sun had changed positions¡ªit should have been early noon, but the sun was only hours from the horizon now. I don¡¯t recognize these plains. Where¡ª ?So you¡¯re still alive, huh?? The voice seemed to come from nowhere, yet everywhere, as I jolted up to my feet¡ªwhich were still wobbly¡ªand I spun around, as if ¡°feeling¡± the voice coming from there! ¡°Who¡¯s there¡ªWoah!¡± I was about ready to question the owner of the voice, only to see a blue-scaled dragon there before me! I reached for my hip, only to grasp at air¡ªwhere¡¯s my sword!? ?Hey hey, calm down, will ya?? ¡°You, you can talk?¡± My eyes widen in shock, as I step back, but trip onto my but once more. Perfect¡ªI¡¯m unarmed, and in the presence of a dragon blessed by the Hero Summoning. When it comes to magic, my only merit is the large mana capacity I was gifted with, however my actual talent in magic is minimal, and at best only good for support and defense. I cannot kill a dragon with my level of magic¡ª ?Hmmm, so you humans don¡¯t know anything about the curse on the other dragons of this world, huh?? What¡¯s that? ¡°C-curse? What curse?¡± ?Well, it doesn¡¯t matter too much, but¡ What do you know about the curse that makes the dragons of this world nothing but animals?? I¡¯ve never heard of such a curse. What he¡¯s saying stuns me for a moment. The dragon god was the only known dragon to have ever spoken¡ªso the legends go. He went be several names and appearances, but when the first Hero appeared, he slayed the dragon god, and that¡¯s when all the legends of talking dragons ended. If this dragon¡¯s words are to be believed¡ª ?Doesn¡¯t seem you know anything? He interrupted my thoughts, and gave a sigh. ?Whatever. I don¡¯t really care who¡¯s curse it is. Just curious.? The more I hear this dragon¡¯s voice, the more childish is begins to sound. The words he speaks are foreign, and when I try to sound them out feel like gibberish, but their meaning is conveyed and completely unambiguous. This, is this the so called thought-speech that the Fae tribes use? I¡¯ve heard that Dragons can propel their thoughts and intentions towards an enemy, often to scare them into inaction. Could that also be used to communicate in such a way? ¡°You, who are you?¡± I finally ask, looking up at the dragon who has yet to shown any interest in killing me¡ªmuch less fighting. ?Don¡¯t you know? I¡¯m the dragon your kingdom summoned,? he answered in annoyance. Even his ¡±voice seemed full to be filled with sarcasm and even mockery. He seemed to particularly strain the word ¡°dragon¡±. ¡°I understand that much,¡± I controlled my voice, not wanting to become this creature¡¯s meal. Perhaps he intended to let me go if I behave? ¡°But even a powerful dragon shouldn¡¯t have been able to use Holy fire¡ªand blue flames?! Are all dragons from your world like this?¡± He seemed to stare at me a moment, before he burst into laughter. ?HAhaha, That¡¯s great¡ªyou actually believe those words,? But of course the laughter seemed forced¡ªhe certainly found it humorous, but by the ¡°thoughts¡± he gave out, the laughter was for emphasis. ¡°What do you mean?¡± ?Let¡¯s see¡? The dragon calmed down, and then laid his body on the field, right beside me. Remembering where we were, I thought to ask the dragon what happened. ?You believe that you summoned a Dragon from another world, correct?? ¡°Isn¡¯t that common sense?¡± I said tilting my head. After all, here he was. He mentioned ¡°the dragons of this world¡±, so he was clearly not from ¡°this world¡±. Then¡ª ?And if I told you that dragons don¡¯t exist in my world?? ¡°I would call that a complete lie; after all, here you are.¡± But at that reply, the dragon merely snorted, as if he heard something ridiculous. ?What do you even know about that summoning magic shit, that you used to bring me here?? Before I could answer, he continued, ?Up until a month ago, I was a perfectly normal human boy, you know?? ¡ I¡ was not sure how to respond to that. That shouldn¡¯t be possible. So we unknowingly transformed a human into a dragon¡ª? If the world were to know of this¡ª ¡°S-sorry¡ª¡± I pause, before pushing myself up-right! ¡°No, why am I apologizing?! You! You attacked us¡ªhumans¡ªyou attacked and killed humans! Aren¡¯t you one too?!¡± ?Ah, you¡¯re right, you¡¯re right. I did, didn¡¯t I?? ¡°Don¡¯t say it like it¡¯s someone else¡¯s problem!¡± ?But, what would have happened otherwise?? He tells me, without even bothering to get up. Still, I gather my magic at my hands, and prepare myself to attack. ?If I were to just go with you guys, you would have just had me attack some army of humans, while you had your general ride on my back. I do feel a little bad about killing people, but you would have done the same thing in my position.? I can¡¯t argue back that logic¡ªbut that still leaves him my enemy. As I move my hands to send a blade of wind at him¡ª ¡ Suddenly I¡¯m on my knees¡ª Chest hurts¡ª Heart¡ crushing feeling¡ª ?Ah? You were actually about to attack me huh?? ¡°Wh-what did you do?¡± ?You haven¡¯t noticed huh? You¡¯ve been talking about the Hero Summoning for a while now. Even if you didn¡¯t reveal any information, you still confirmed your part in it, and the fact it happened.? Ah! He¡¯s right. But then, why didn¡¯t the ¡°contract binding¡± stop me from talking earlier? It should have killed me by now! ¡°Th-then¡?¡± ?Since the moment I took you out of my ¡°storage¡±, I had analyzed, and rewrote the conditions to your curse.? He can do that?! ?I was practicing, you see. Your curse isn¡¯t as tricky as the ones on the dragons, and actually pretty straight-forward. Though, I don¡¯t think I¡¯ll be able to remake it¡ªbut modifying or breaking it isn¡¯t too hard.? ¡°What did you do?¡± I finally ask, as the pain in my chest is alleviated. And as if he was an innocent child telling his parents about how he broke the family heirloom¡ª ?I just rewrote it so you can¡¯t attack me is all.? My shoulders slumped, and I couldn¡¯t help but sigh, letting out the accumulated fatigue since now. Part 2 In the cavern, I had taken a notice to her. There was something like the curse the dragons had on them, planted on her. But it was different. Much simpler¡ªwhat¡¯s more, it didn¡¯t use her own mana and consciousness to resist my own mana. But I didn¡¯t have time to play with this new toy. So I just pulled her into my storage and moved on. I did find it funny that she pissed herself though. The others inside the cavern were disoriented and shocked. It was a good idea to blow up the entrance like that, and create a shock wave. I was already aware that people were inside, thanks to the fact that their magic bags were very conspicuous to me. The space magic they used was similar to my own storage¡ªsimilar, but different. I didn¡¯t know how different though. Still, I collected all the bags, and tossed them into my pocket-dimension. On a whim, I decided to collect all the eggs that were up above, but I really didn¡¯t know what to do with them. Well, ¡°curse breaking practice¡± would be a good use for them, huh? But what do I do with them after that? Ah, whatever. So after collecting my precious, I promptly got out of there. On the way out, I went ahead and shot a few fireballs at the cliffside. Just to keep them busy. I flew east for quite a while, until I decided to land. I could see a human village not too far off, but I was far enough that they shouldn¡¯t even notice me. When I landed, I decided to take out the pile of gold, and then emptied out the bags. It seems that the bags had a size limit based on the opening of the bags themselves. Funny. Well anyways, I didn¡¯t much need the bags, and they sort of made it hard for me to use my storage magic. Seems like you can¡¯t have a pocket-dimension inside a pocket dimension, or something? Anyways, then I remembered the girl. What was I going to do with her? She was rather pretty¡ªdespite the armor, she had a nice face, and her black hair was cut short. From the ¡°age¡± of her mana, I judged she should be about 16 or so. I remember that by that age, a lot of cultures already considered a person an adult. But it also seems this world is fine with sending girls into wars huh? Different worlds, different cultures I guess. That said¡ªI can¡¯t just rape her or something; that would definitely make me the bad guy. Ah, wait, I already kidnapped her, which already makes me the bad guy, right? No no, she¡¯s a prisoner of war¡ª! Kinda. Meh, I guess I¡¯ll ask her the various questions I had in mind. ¡ ¡ Hmmm, this girl doesn¡¯t give me that ¡°high and mighty princess¡± vibe¡ªshe¡¯s pretty peeved about killing her friends though. After being told that she couldn¡¯t even hope to attack me, she seemingly gave up, and let out a disappointed sigh. ?Anyways, I wanted to ask you about some other stuff.,? ¡°Hmph,¡± She huffed, and turned the other way. ¡ ?If you don¡¯t answer, I could always just blow up the village nearby,? it was a bluff of course. It probably showed through the thoughts I projected, but I doubted she would notice if this was her first time having a conversation like this. As proof of that, I noticed her flinch slightly, before turning to face me with a scowl. ¡°What do you want?!¡± ?Strictly speaking, I want to hit that,? I say jokingly. ¡°Hit.. wah¡!?¡± She looked confused as if pondering the literal meaning of my words, before the ¡°figurative meaning¡± sunk into her mind. He face turned to shock, anger, and perhaps a hint of embarrassment, as she backed up away from me, ¡°H-hey! No way¡ª! Y-you are not touching me like that!¡± I gave her a light chuckle as I stood up, and she seemed to quickly back away further¡ªI never knew someone could back up that fast while on the ground like that. The movement reminded me of crabs. ?Relax, it was a joke.? ¡ ?Mostly,? I add on, before intentionally transmitting a ¡°fantasy¡± towards her. This of course is rewarded by a rather amusing expression, that was more embarrassment than anything else¡ ...I might just keep her. ¡°You deviant!¡± She shouted at me, thrusting a finger at me, as if there were anyone else for her to be talking about. Well, I wouldn¡¯t call myself a deviant¡ªno, no I probably am that, aren¡¯t I? Maybe I should have imagined myself as a human in that fantasy I just shot her with? Is it weird I¡¯m already seeing myself as a dragon, no matter what scenario I imagine up? Even in the one dream I had about home, I was a Dragon, and there didn¡¯t seem to be anything weird about that. Is there anything weird about that? Ah, my mind is wandering again. And this girl¡¯s expression seems to be turning into one of fear¡ªah, she probably thinks I¡¯m actually gonna mount her like in the vision. She may have only seen it for an instant, but she probably saw it in every detail I imagined it in. ?Anyways¡ªSo tell me about the magic in this world?? I finally decided to ask, after teasing her a bit. She was a bit surprised by that, and took a moment to make sure I wasn¡¯t trying to lower her guard. After narrowing her eyes at me for a moment, she let out a long sigh, as if to tell me I was hopeless. ¡°What? Don¡¯t you already know enough magic? You used some very high level fire magic just a moment ago!¡± She seemed mad at my question for some reason. Hmm? ?Well, I¡¯ve been able to learn pretty fast thanks to the fact I can see and observe magic pretty well. But I don¡¯t know a thing about this world, you know?? Actually, I had a pretty good idea about how magic worked. Mostly. My instincts are innately aware of the nature of most magic used, but I wanted to see what the perspective of the humans of this world was. It was a ¡°what shape is the world?¡± type of question, I guess? ¡°Is that so¡¡± She seemed to ponder whether or not to answer my question for a moment, before standing up. Seems she didn¡¯t like looking so far up at me, while on the ground. ¡°Well, Magic as far as my master has taught me is divided into 6 forms. Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Life, and Divine.¡± Life? Divine? ¡°The first 4 are self-explanatory¡ªthey¡¯re the 4 forms which all humans are allowed to control with magic. Some are blessed with a the power to use some forms of Life magic, but otherwise, the only ways to use magic outside of the 4 is through Magic Formations.¡± ?Magic Formations? And what¡¯s Life magic, exactly?? Hmm? Her wording feels off. Well, this is probably just how the people of this world understand magic, hmm? ¡°Well¡ Healing magic is a form of Life magic we humans are allowed to use,¡±¡ªthere goes that ¡°allowed¡± term again¡ª¡±However the Contract binding¡ªwhich you manipulated¡ªis also considered a form of Life magic.¡± Eh? But the similarities are so¡ Superficial. I saw a bit of healing magic used before¡ªthere¡¯s no similarity between the ¡°contract binding¡± and the healing magic I saw. I may not have gotten a good look at it, but still. Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. ¡°As for Magic Formations, those are drawn patterns we use to call on magic we cannot use otherwise. The contract binding, again, is called using this method.¡± Hmm, I see. ¡°And?¡± ?Your understanding of magic is quite narrow, isn¡¯t it?? I couldn¡¯t help but let those thoughts leak out¡ Oops. I made her angry. ¡°Then why did you ask!?¡± ?Morbid curiosity,? I stated as she spun around, and began to walk away, ?Ah, one more thing. What shape is the¡ª? ¡°Fuck off!¡± She shouted over her shoulder. Wow. ¡ I didn¡¯t know she could curse. ¡ I also didn¡¯t know I liked that kind of girl. Part 3 Stupid, stupid, stupid dragon. I¡¯ll have him killed! I swear it! I don¡¯t know where I am, but the next town I get to, I¡¯ll make my way back to the capital, and have this blasted dragon captured an enslaved! I don¡¯t even care anymore that he¡¯s actually a human inside! In fact, that makes it worst! Damn condescending pervert¡ª! Now, where am I? Dammit, that dragon is still following me. ¡°What do you want?¡± I glared back at him, and he seemed to find that amusing¡ªI didn¡¯t notice before, but he¡¯s been projecting these subtle thoughts quite frequently. At least it¡¯s a decent substitute for facial expressions, seeing how I can¡¯t read this guy otherwise. ?Ah, I was wondering if you could get me a map of the world. There¡¯s a village nearby you can buy it from.? I clicked my tongue as I turned to him, ¡°And why should I do that?¡± ?Because I can¡¯t?? He said in a ¡°isn¡¯t it obvious?¡± sort of tone. ¡°And how is that my problem?¡± I ask, while turning back the other way, and continuing to walk. ?Because you¡¯re going the wrong way, and I won¡¯t tell you where the village is otherwise?? and then he added, ?And if I do go, I¡¯ll likely be attacked by the villagers, and it¡¯s not like I¡¯m going to just take it, you know?? ¡ This guy¡ª¡±Fine! Show me where the damn village is. I¡¯ll get you your map.¡± I, Korinna Xifos, proud knight of Sailos Kingdom, am running errands for a Dragon, of all things. Part 4 When she returned, it looked like she was furious. ¡°You! How far did you fly from the mountain range?!¡± Yep, she¡¯s pissed. ?A few hours,? I said nonchalantly. ¡°Fuck,¡± She shouted, as if pissed after confirming her fears. So she knows where we are huh? Good. She threw the map she had in her hand at me, and groaned outloud, before falling the the ground. ¡°That explains why it¡¯s so late already,¡± She muttered to herself. Hmm? Wait, ?How long did it feel like to you?? ¡°Hmph¡ I don¡¯t even remember a thing, between you appearing, and ending up here in this plain,¡± she said. ¡°I thought those mountains over there were the same ones from before, but¡ They¡¯re not. You fucking took me to another country¡ dammit!¡± She had actually gotten a couple maps. I went ahead and unrolled them, looking at them carefully. This looks familiar¡ Hey, isn¡¯t this a map of Europe and Asia¡ª? ¡ ?Hey hey hey, What¡¯s with this map?!? I cried out. ¡°What? You disappointed or something?¡± She asked with her spirit crushed. ?This, are you sure this is a map of this world?? ¡°Hmm?¡± She sat up, before looking down at the map. ¡°Yep, this is a map of Ethorn, alright.¡± ?Ethorn is¡?? ¡°It¡¯s the name of the continent, duh,¡± She said as she rolled her eyes. This girl, I forgot she¡¯s not that old, is she? Actually¡ªI never got her name, did I? I¡¯ll ask later. ?Hmm, shouldn¡¯t there be another continent, south of here?? I pointed my claw around the area that Africa should start. ¡°There is, but that region is mostly unexplored, and left out of most maps, because we don¡¯t recognize any countries formed there. Is that so? Is this mentality simply because of the geological rift between them? ?So where are we?? ¡°Here,¡± She pointed to a point on the map with a sour expression. If I remember right¡ That should be¡ Who am I kidding? I grew up in America; I don¡¯t even remember where my Capital is. ¡°We were here, just before then,¡± She points a bit west of there. Actually, I do remember what country is there; Greece. I crossed a sea to get to where I am, so the locations match up. I used magic to speed myself up, so crossing that amount of water shouldn¡¯t have been too difficult in that time. Anyways, the country we were in seems rather large compared to other countries I see outlines on the map. But it¡¯s not the largest country either. There¡¯s another country that takes up a large chunk of Europe. Actually, I can see some borders even within that country, that are still marked as being one. ?What¡¯s up with this country? Her expression noticeably soured. ¡°That is the Republic,¡± She hissed. ¡°They¡¯re a pretty large nation, however it¡¯s also composed of smaller satellite nations. Most of them are Demi-human and Demon nations though.¡± ?Demi-humans and Demons?? She looked up at me, before she seemed to remember I wasn¡¯t familiar with this world¡¯s terminology. ¡°Demi-humans are creatures that look human mostly, but aren¡¯t. The Beast tribes, Fae tribes, and Elven tribes are the most populace of demi-humans. Demons on the other hand are monstrous creatures¡ªit¡¯s believed that they are merely monsters who gained an ego of their own. A dragon like yourself would probably mistaken as a Demon.¡± That was a pretty straightforward way of answering. Demi-Humans = Would tap. Demons = Probably wouldn¡¯t tap. I wanted to ask why she hated them, but she probably doesn¡¯t have any other reason beyond xenophobia. ?So the name of the country we were in was Sailos Kingdom?? ¡°That¡¯s correct,¡± ¡ ¡°You can read this map?¡± ?Huh? Oh, yeah?? It wasn¡¯t in any language I should know, but I recognized the writing, and could understand the meaning of the words. I could even speak it. ¡°I see. That¡¯s right, the Hero Summoning,¡± She said, leaving the rest unsaid. ?And the country we¡¯re in now is Tenay,? ¡°That¡¯s right! Your dumbass nearly got me killed!¡± She suddenly said with a shout. ¡°Do you know what happens to a Sailos Knight in this country?! And you had me go get a map from them¡ª!¡± She groaned out loud in discontent, before continuing. ¡°I had to ditch my armor in the woods, and went back for it after. If they saw my armor, I would have been lynched! I had to enter the village in almost nothing by my undergarments and rags, because it was better than the alternative!¡± ?I didn¡¯t tell you to strip down though?? I said, ?Though if I knew you were going to, I probably would have followed to watch.? I ignored her (clearly annoyed) response, as I begin to ponder the meaning of what I just learned. So, is it like that? This world is basically a parallel version of Earth, but with magic? Something came to mind¡ªthe multiverse theory mentioned infinite universes, where an Earth like mine exists, but each with a slight difference. Just build up all those ¡°slight differences¡±, and I guess you end up with Dragons and Magic? ¡ Why am I thinking about this? It¡¯s not like I care too much¡ªah wait. ?You mentioned I was brought here by the What-Summoning?? ¡°Hero Summoning¡ªnot that you¡¯re much of a hero,¡± ?So you¡¯ve summoned other before me?? She looked at me with a raised eyebrow, and folded her arms. ¡°Of course. Ever since the Great Mage lent us use of the Hero Summoning, we have used its power to bring forth Heroes of great power, to aid our Great Kingdom¡ª¡± ?You kidnapped people to fight your wars,? I gave her the most blunt answer I possibly could. ¡°It is by our right!¡± She shot back. ¡°Ethorn¡¯s will allotted us the power to advance our nation, so we took it!¡± ?Ethorn?? The name of the continent? ¡°The name of the Great Mage¡ªAlso worshiped by many as the Heavenly God. Creator of the Hero Summoning, and he who aided the first Hero in destroying the Dragon God.¡± That guy¡¯s got quite the titles. Great Mage huh? How many years did he go a virgin? Ah no, he¡¯s a cultist, so he probably had a lot of action, huh? But that last part¡ª?¡±Dragon God¡±?? I parrot the term in curiosity. ¡°As the legends go, with the exception of you¡ª¡± She points at me to emphasis her words¡ª¡±There is only one known Dragon to have ever spoken, and his power brought all dragons into accordance with his goals. It¡¯s believed he was a timeless Demon. Ethorn gifted the first hero the power to destroy the Dragon God, which brought about¡ª¡± ?Bullshit.? ¡ Hmm? I expected her to say something in return, but¡ ?Tell me about this dragon god fellow?? I decided to ask. It already sounded fishy. So I wanted to match what this girl believed, and what I¡¯ve already investigated. She gave a deep sigh, and shook her head as if contemplating her circumstances. ¡°Like I said. According to the legends, he was a Dragon who took on various forms and names. He ruled over and led all the Dragons, and waged war on all other nations at the time. Ethorn gifted Sailos Kingdom the power to resist him, which brought forth the first Hero. That hero was then gifted the power to kill the Dragon God. ¡°But that thing you said before. A curse on Dragons, was it?¡± ?That¡¯s right. Going by your current explanation, my guess is that the gift Ethorn gave the Hero was a curse to make Dragons into nothing more than beasts? ¡°How would that even be possible?¡± She asked with a frown. But I didn¡¯t know that myself. ?I¡¯ve looked at every dragon from the camp before, and they all have the same bindings on their minds. Each of them is identical, and is amazingly powerful. It uses the Dragon¡¯s own will to keep it locked in place,? I explained. ¡°... Could something like that be used on Humans?¡± The answer is a ¡°maybe, but probably not¡±, considering the curse uses the will of the dragon to maintain itself, so it would probably be less effective on things with lower awareness to magic¡ Not that I¡¯ll tell her that. ?Who knows? Anyways, I just brought you along as a guinea pig for the curse thing. I¡¯m gonna take a nap. If you want to go, go. Not like you can cause me harm.? I went ahead and stored the maps into my storage¡ªAh that¡¯s right, Turkey. In the old world this region should be called they, right? Well whatever¡ What to do¡ Guess tomorrow I¡¯ll see about that curse removal stuff. Maybe¡ That Republic this girl mentioned sounds like it¡¯d be fine. She said I count as a demon right? And they accept demons¡ª Eh, I¡¯ll just continue dicking around. Getting involved with some country is too much of a hassle. Part 5 Dammit. What do I do now? I can¡¯t cross into Sailos like this. No matter how I look at it; either Sailos will suspect me of being an enemy spy, or Tenay will have me killed on the way there. There¡¯s a chance I can convince Sailos otherwise, but it¡¯s likely they¡¯ve already marked me down as deceased. In the end I¡¯m stuck with this fool. I¡¯ve already purchased some clothes to wear, and replaced most of what I urinated on, but I can¡¯t leave the armor behind¡ªI still feel that I¡¯ll be getting into more fights from here on. I should have bought a blanket though¡ now that he mentions sleep, I can¡¯t help but notice the overwhelming fatigue I had accumulated. This pervert¡ªhe won¡¯t force himself on me, will he? No, he would have done so already by now. Then, I decide to store away my armor into my magic bag, and try to flatten out the tall grass. I consider going back to the village nearby, but they probably already think I¡¯m a suspicious person. I don¡¯t have much choice than to sleep outside in this wilderness. I¡¯ve already gotten accustomed to sleeping out during long journeys, but these circumstances are much more different¡ªin addition to the usual stress, there¡¯s even dragon just a few meters away. Dammit, I¡¯m worrying too much. I should be glad I was even allowed to live. But what shall I do now?
Author Notes: Everything after Part 3 was going to be another chapter, but I decided to just fuse the two into one. (which made it the longest chapter so far) This chapter is mostly an exposition chapter. Jason has gotten accustomed to living in another world, but unlike most Summoned Heroes, he skipped the "Introduction to the World" step, so he''s doing that now. Also, I mentioned the Knight''s name in this chapter, but neither of the two have exchanged names... Also, I''m going to be rethinking the direction of this story. I''m not quite sure where to go with this. I can think of various plots, and even have a rough idea for the ending, but I haven''t mentally organized anything sequentially, or what comes in between. I also feel that this last chapter was sloppy compared to previous chapters. But I may be over-thinking it.
