《Challenging Destiny》 Chapter 1 - The Gaming Helmet ¡°Kai order for table 4 and table 6 is ready!¡± Nodding his head Kai the waiter working in this old Chinese restaurant grabbed the two dishes of noodles and chicken with both hands quickly made his way to the tables. Suddenly the restaurant became all quiet but the laughter and giggling can be heard from the table next to Kai. ¡°Watch where you¡¯re going man¡± Said a young man while laughing similar to Kai¡¯s age but his appearance clearly showed he came has money. Next to him were two girls giggling at Kai¡¯s funny appearance of food stuck in his hair and sauces all over his face and clothes. Kai slowly stood up, wiped the blood from dripping from his nose with left arm and stared at the guy who tripped him. ¡°¡­¡± ¡°Yoouu got something to say?...¡± The young man was enjoying the situation at first but after he looked at Kai¡¯s black eyes and calm face staring at him he was starting to feel like he did something he shouldn¡¯t have. Suddenly everyone in the restaurant had their eyes on the two young men, even the commotion from the kitchen became quiet, and all were waiting to see if a fight was going to happen. Kai was still looking at the guy, but then slowly took a deep breath, closed his eyes for a few seconds and then shook his head. Then Kai proceeded to pick up the broken pieces of plates he broke from his fall and food from the floor. ¡°I thought so haha¡± Seeing how Kai didn¡¯t do anything but admit defeat the young man continued to laugh with the two girls. The restaurant became noisy again knowing that nothing was going to happen, but if it was all quiet again you could hear that Kai out of anger crushed a piece of plate to tiny pieces like it was snow. After an hour since the Incident Kai was at the back of the kitchen washing his face with water and then began wrapping a piece of cloth over his left hand where he crushed the plate. ¡°I¡¯m such an idiot I didn¡¯t mean to cut myself¡­¡± Kai said to himself regretting the fact that he injured himself. ¡°Whoosh¡± The kitchen door opened A fat man with a face similar to a pig approached Kai Looking at Kai made the fat man start to feel angry. He only hired Kai a couple months ago since he accepted half the wage per hour but his quiet attitude and personality always made him angry for some reason. Grunting the Fat man said to Kai ¡°Kai the food you spilled will be coming out of your paycheck¡± ¡®That¡¯s 25 Yuan¡­ Then I¡¯ll be earning only 50 Yuan this week Kai thought to himself¡¯ Kai slowly began squeezing his bandage hand, from the pressure the hand was slowly turning red. The fat man slowly raised his right eye brow noticing how Kai was squeezing his fist like he was about to throw a punch. ¡°You have a problem with that?¡± Kai realizing he was getting angry slowly let go his fist and shook his head. Kai knowing full well with his background and circumstances in this world knew that it was useless at all to retort back, even if he did what power did he have to back him up? He needed the money not for himself but also his little sister so all he could do was nod at the fat man and slowly let go his anger. Seeing how weak the kid was the fat man couldn¡¯t help but laugh at this appearance. ¡°Haha, make sure to throw away the trash after you clean yourself up¡± The fat man left through the back door leaving Kai all alone in the restaurant, poor Kai everyday had to close up and clean before he could leave. The fat man wasn¡¯t at all scared of how this poor boy was left alone his in restaurant after the theft from last year he installed multiple cameras from every angle knowing that if Kai stole something he would fire the boy then charge him double for anything missing. After cleaning up Kai slowly took the trash out and headed outside to the trash bins *Vroooum!* A load car engine echoed through the air ¡°Hey Josh it¡¯s the kid¡± ¡°Haha hey kid thanks for the entertainment back there¡± Turning his head Kai turned around to see where the voices were coming from; across from him was the asshole that tripped him The young man was in a VRX car with toned red paint job similar to the color of his dyed hair. After seeing the car Kai fully understood now why he was so arrogant, someone with that car clearly had power and money not him maybe but his parents for sure. *Vrooom!* The car once again sounded it¡¯s engine. Seeing Kai looking at his ride the young man knew that Kai realizes how much power he holds and he couldn¡¯t help but smile and continued arrogantly flaunting his ride. ¡°Josh let¡¯s go you promise to take us out shopping¡± Said one of the girls next to Josh ¡°Okay Okay, Let¡¯s go¡± Josh said while giving Kai another sneer before leaving ¡®The car probably cost 200k Yuan, it¡¯ll probably take me 30 years to buy a car like that.¡¯ Kai thought while laughing a bit on how expensive that car is, heck he wouldn¡¯t even dare ride it in the open. As the car was backing the young man wasn¡¯t looking behind him since he was still acting tough in front of Kai, behind him was a truck approaching at high speeds not slowing down at all. As his car was getting out of the parking lot the Truck suddenly turned and crashed straight at him crushing him and the two girls with him to death instantly. *BOOM!* Pieces of metal blew by everywhere like a meteor shower, while the sound of the crash echoed through the air like a bomb, causing everyone nearby to run for safety. ¡°What the hell happened!¡± While Kai was heading back to the restaurant the sound of the crash scared him so much it made him jump in the air then landed on his butt. Turning around he saw a green truck rammed straight into that fancy red car crushing like a crushed ball of paper. ¡°Oh shit!¡± Kai ran towards the crash to see if anyone survived. Approaching the wreckage the front of the red car was squished by the truck and between the gaps was red blood dripping down the sides. Seeing the amount of blood dripping down like tooth paste Kai couldn¡¯t help but feel his stomach tightening. ¡°Is anyone alive?¡± Kai quietly asked, his voice was so quiet it was like a whisper. No respond came but only the sound of the truck engine could be heard while it continued to humm violently. Kai checked the front seat of the Truck to see if anyone was alive but it was useless, the truck driver was covered in blood face down on the wheel not moving at all. Suddenly sirens of police and ambulances can be heard nearby. ¡°Oh shit I better run¡± ¡®If they see someone like me here I¡¯ll be in big trouble¡¯ Kai said to himself As Kai started to run back to the restaurant he notices a white box no bigger than his head lying across from him with a helmet logo on its sides. Kai slowly approached the box thinking that he seen this somewhere before. ¡°My god it¡¯s a gaming helmet!¡± Kai couldn¡¯t believe his eyes it¡¯s a gaming helmet! These helmets cost a fortune and this one was just lying here! The siren sound was getting closer and closer. ¡°Oh man, I better head back inside¡± Kai ran back to the restaurant with the gaming helmet under his arms holding it tightly like it was his new born baby. Chapter 2 - Mika ¡°Finally Home¡­ Those Police Men took such a long time¡­ *Sigh* Said Kai to himself while closely approaching an old two story building. After finding the gaming helmet Kai hid it in garbage bin in front of the restaurant since he knew about the cameras hidden in the restaurant long ago. After hiding the gaming helmet Kai ended up staying in the restaurant for three full hours since the cops did a full investigation of the accident, and he was too scared to walk out knowing that if he did he would get questioned and would possible give up the gaming helmet. ¡°But I guess it was all worth it¡± Kai said to himself while smiling as he was holding up the gaming helmet looking at it as if it¡¯s his most valuable possession. ¡°I hope Mika isn¡¯t awake, knowing Mika she¡¯ll probably roast me alive...¡± Kai said nervously as he was approaching an old wooden door. *Creaaak* ¡°¡­¡± ¡°Phew, she isn¡¯t awake¡± ¡°Big brother Kai¡­¡± ¡°Wauuh!¡± Kai yelled as he realizes someone was behind the door ¡°Mika you scared me!¡± ¡°Big brother Kai¡­ I heard about the accident in front of the restaurant...¡± Mika said with tears in her eyes while quickly clinging onto Kai Seeing Mika a beautiful 17 year old red hair girl with a face that can make any girl jealous, blue round eyes that can make any man fall in love at first sight, and white supple skin that looks to delicate to touch Kai couldn¡¯t help but feel ashamed of himself. Mika and him were all they had in the world, sure they weren¡¯t real blood brother and sister but they have been together for so long their bond was more stronger than a real brother and sister. ¡°Mika I¡¯m sorry, I didn¡¯t mean to worry you¡± As Kai said gently while patting Mika on the head ¡°wuahh¡­¡± ¡°Please don¡¯t cry look at this¡± Kai said excitedly while showing Mika the gaming helmet *sniff* ¡°Whats that?¡± Mika said curiously while wiping her tears with her sleeve ¡°It¡¯s a gaming helmet!¡± ¡°A gaming helmet?¡± ¡°Remember seeing those people fighting on Tv last week while we were walking around?¡± ¡°Oh the people with the swords!¡± Mika said excitedly remembering how cool it was seeing those guys fight with magic and swords. ¡°Yes, with this I can become like them, and make some money while where at it¡± Kai said while grinning of the idea ¡°But isn¡¯t that expensive how did you get it¡­¡± Mika said while raising her left eye brow while looking at Kai as if he did something he shouldn¡¯t have. ¡°Wait Mika¡­ I did not steal it or commit a crime. I found it!¡± Kai said nervously ¡°You found it?¡± ¡°Yes I found it.¡± ¡°Why would anyone leave a gaming helmet lying around¡­¡± ¡°To be honest I found it lying on the ground after the crash¡­¡± ¡°What! Did you not think that maybe the gaming helmet belongs to one of the people in the accident!¡± Mika yelled furiously ¡°Mika wait!, they were already dead before I arrive and one of the guys was such an asshole¡± Kai replied while remembering how that guy tripped him in the restaurant. ¡°That¡¯s even worst! Ah here it is, New world is the newest version of virtual reality release a few months ago apparently over 2 million helmets were instantly bought on the first hour it was release. The helmet cost about 15k Yuan¡­¡± ¡°15k Yuan? Wow I knew it was expensive but not that expensive¡± ¡°Big Brother Kai¡­ can¡¯t we sell that?¡± Mika said with Yuan figures on her pupils where looking at the gaming helmet ¡°Wait Mika!, we can sell this but haven¡¯t you heard of people making more money in game?¡± ¡°Yes but those people are funded, they can buy skills and weapons but we don''t have much¡­¡± Mika said while still looking at the gaming helmet like a hungry beast ¡°Mika don¡¯t worry I¡¯ll think of something and I have you for support don¡¯t I?¡± ¡°Wuh¡­ Fine I trust you.¡± Mika said while slightly blushing red hearing that comment ¡°Thank you Mika. Okay let¡¯s get this show on the road!¡± Kai said while attaching the wires on the helmet and turning it on ¡°Okay, I¡¯ll look up some info maybe we can find out an easy way for you to become strong¡± Mika said while she started typing on the old laptop. ¡°Okay thanks Mika, see you in a few hours!¡± Kai said smiling as he put on the helmet. ¡°Be careful Big Brother Kai¡± Mika said nervously knowing that its Kai¡¯s first time touching something this expensive and technical ¡°I will!¡± Kai said obviously brimming with excitement. Kai than pressed a button on the helmet, suddenly a song can be heard and it almost sound like it was sung by angels were playing. ¡°wow¡­¡± Suddenly an image of a planet similar to earth floating in space can be seen, above the planet was text NEW WORLD ¡®Welcome to new world¡¯ A voice of a female suddenly spoke out of nowhere ¡°Hello¡­¡± Kai said wondering where that voice came from ¡°This id currently brand new, would you like to create a character?¡± ¡°Yes¡± Suddenly an image of Kai appeared out of nowhere on a window screen. ¡°Please select a race¡± ¡°mhmm can I see a mix of Elf and Human please?¡± The image of Kai slightly changed his appearance had slightly pointy ears and he was now dressed in cloth clothes. ¡°Would you like to select this character?¡± ¡°Yes¡± "Please choose a name" "Kai" ¡°Please select your starter village¡± Suddenly a map on a window screen appeared in front of Kai ¡°I choose EverGreen Starter Village¡± ¡°Thank you for buying New World, I wish you luck on your journey¡± Suddenly Kai wasn¡¯t at the loading screen anymore and was suddenly teleported in front of a village with huts and forest around him ¡°Wow!¡± Chapter 3 - Crazy Rabbit Upon seeing the scenery Kai couldn¡¯t believe what he saw. A village with a few houses like in medieval times exactly like he saw in a book once, surrounded by multiple trees and a clear blue sky. ¡°Wow, I could never imagine I would see so many trees¡± Kai said as he looked around Kai has lived in a city all his life, and in the city there was hardly any greenery around there were just mostly buildings, machinery and trash. There is greenery upon the nicer side of the city but a lot of money was required to live there. ¡°Everything feels so real¡± Kai said as he took a breath of air Than he began testing his movements, while walking and jumping around. If someone else saw this people would describe Kai as someone who never played a virtual reality game before a better term for a word for Kai right now is, a noob. ¡°*Sigh*You can hardly tell the difference at all¡± Kai said while sighing thinking on what you can experience if you had money, if he never found this gaming helmet he would probably never experience virtual reality in his entire life. ¡°mhmm Let¡¯s see here¡± Kai said while looking at the corner bottom of his view there was multiple action commands. ¡°Inventory¡± *Poof* A window screen suddenly appeared in front of Kai showing multiple small empty boxes next to each other in total all together makes 6 rows of 8. ¡°Oh a dagger!¡± Kai said excited to wield his first weapon Upon clicking the dagger and selecting equip the dagger appeared in Kai¡¯s right hand *Whoosh* Kai swung the dagger multiple times at the left and right direction ¡°Haha, this is pretty cool¡± ¡°Okay what¡¯s next¡­ character info!¡± *Poof* A screen window appeared in front of Kai showing his basic stats and the equipment he was currently using Rusty Dagger Durability: 10/10 Attack: 2-4 Cloth Shirt Type: Cloth Armor Durability: 15/15 Defence: 3 Cloth Shorts Type: Cloth Armor Durability: 15/15 Defence: 3 [Kai] Level 1 Strength: 10 Attack: 2-4 Agility: 10 Defense: 3-5 Intelligent: 10 HP: 10 Luck: 10 MP: 10 Charm: 0 ¡°Wow I¡¯m weak¡­¡± Kai said while checking his stats Kai then proceeded to enter the village. Walking around he saw many new players just like him which surprised Kai, since he joined few months later after release everyone should at least be higher level areas but he figured the game was just really popular heck there was multiple shows about this game posted online, Kai even heard people he knew talk about the game in general and they can¡¯t even afford a decent meal. As Kai approached a fountain in the middle of the village he saw multiple players talking to an old man. The old man was holding a wooden cane while he was stroking his white beard. On top of his head appeared his name [Village Elder] Arun ¡®Wow this must be an NPC, you can hardly tell the difference between a real player¡¯ Kai said to himself upon seeing the old man¡¯s appearance. ¡®The village elder must be the one giving out quests and info¡¯ Seeing how players were talking to the old man Kai sat down on a bench and waited for his turn. ¡°Hello village elder¡± Kai said approaching the village elder after 5 minutes of waiting ¡°Hello there young man¡± The elder replied while stroking his white beard ¡°Could you please tell me about where I am?¡± Kai asked ¡°You are currently at Evergreen Starter Village, upon reaching level 10 by combat or quests you can move onto the city for your job promotion¡± ¡°Could I please get a quest?¡± ¡°Mhmm recently there is a lot of horned rabbits lately and are attacking our villagers, could you please take care of them?¡± *Poof* suddenly a window screen appeared in front of Kai System Announcement: Slay 10 horned rabbits Do you accept? ¡°Yes¡± After accepting the quest Kai headed out Upon reaching an opening in front of a village there were multiple rabbits the size of a cat hopping around with horns the size of pencil on their heads This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it. ¡°Wow that¡¯s a huge rabbit¡± Kai said seeing the horned rabbit Horned Rabbit Level: 1 Attack: 4-6 Defense: 3-5 Health: 15 A horned rabbit hopping near Kai suddenly attacked when seeing Kai *Whossh* the horn rabbit jumped and stabbed Kai right in the leg ¡°Ow! What the hell!¡± -4 hp! Kai jumped back surprised at the sudden quick attack by the horned rabbit and the damage it did ¡°4 damage¡­ two more hits and I¡¯m dead¡± Kai said still in shock after the first attack Suddenly the horned rabbit once again pounced. Seeing this Kai quickly dodge left but fell down from too much momentum Miss! ¡°This rabbit is crazy!¡± Kai yelled after being attacked The rabbit once against pounced on Kai. Seeing the rabbit attack yet again Kai quickly dodged by rolling on the floor Miss! ¡°Okay you F**King Rabbit, see how you like getting attacked!¡± After being attacked three times Kai finally lost it and suddenly jumped up and then slashed the horned rabbit with his dagger. Seeing how Kai attacked back the horned rabbit suddenly jumped back causing Kai¡¯s attack to miss and then after landing the horned rabbit countered attacked by quickly jumping and pouncing on Kai, stabbing him in the stomach. Miss! -4 hp! ¡°What!¡± Kai yelled Kai was in shocked this horned rabbit actually dodged his attack then quickly countered him ¡°I thought this was a starter village!¡± Kai yelled The horned rabbit once again pounced on Kai, luckily he reacted by falling down on the floor causing the horned rabbit¡¯s attack to miss Miss! ¡°Jesus Christ¡­ How is this fair¡­¡± Kai whined while lying on the ground It¡¯s actually quite normal for monsters to react this way. Since the first creation of virtual reality games many companies aimed to make it very realistic like the environment, the same feeling of moving your body, and especially the combat system. Also Kai right now is playing the newest release of virtual reality NEW WORLD by one of the top companies of the world, everything is advance. Players who played virtual reality before would have no problems at all battling a level 1 horned rabbit but for Kai it¡¯s a new experience for him, also he has never experienced real combat before. The horned rabbit once again pounced trying to stab Kai once again with its very sharp horn. Seeing this Kai had no time to dodge so he awkwardly slashed the horned rabbit while it was mid-air hoping that the attack would land and save his life. -4 hp! The attack was successful! The rabbit was hit mid-air and then fell on the ground from the momentum ¡°Oh my god¡­ I did it!¡± Kai yelled with happiness then quickly stood up setting up his awkward stance getting ready for the next attack The horned rabbit quickly stood up, its eyes turned red becoming enraged after being attack ¡°oh shit¡­¡± Kai said nervously seeing the horned rabbit red glowing eyes The horned rabbit quickly ran straight to Kai then jumped aiming its horn right at Kai¡¯s neck in a matter of seconds. Kai seeing the horn right in front of his face panicked and quickly moved back resulting him to fall down once again on the floor. -Miss! ¡°Screw this I¡¯m running!¡± Kai like a man he is, quickly got up and started to run from the level 1 horned rabbit. Suddenly as Kai started to run a horned rabbit near him got aggroed upon seeing Kai and began to attack as well. The horned rabbit quickly pounced on Kai stabbing him on the back resulting on his death. -5 hp! ¡°What! What happened!¡± Kai yelled helplessly as he fell down to the ground *Poof* A small message screen appeared in front of him You have died. Would you like to resurrect?
It''s my first time writing about combat and to my surprise I really enjoyed it! I hope you guys enjoyed reading it as much I did writing about it. :) Chapter 4 - Not Giving Up ¡°Hey Look It¡¯s the guy who died to a horned rabbit!¡± ¡°Ha Ha poor guy¡± ¡°He must be really new Ha Ha¡± ¡°Watch out there¡¯s a horned rabbit behind you! Ha Ha!¡± ¡°¡­¡± After dying Kai resurrected back in town and rushed back to where the horned rabbits spawned wanting revenge from the defeat, but as soon got there laughter and ridicule could be heard all around him. Apparently everyone saw the scene of him fighting then dying miserably, it was hilarious. ¡°¡­¡± All Kai could do was say nothing but ignore the laughter and ridicule. After a few moments of walking around Kai finally found another area where horned rabbits spawned, with no players around to ridicule him. *Sigh* Kai sighed like an old man and sat down leaning on a tree ¡°These rabbits are so fast how they kill them so easily¡­¡± When Kai was walking away from the players he saw other players kill horned rabbits with ease! Everyone¡¯s movements and attacks were so fluid, almost like they have trained in real combat before. There was this one player who really surprised Kai, a horned rabbit suddenly attacked the player like what happened to Kai, but this player didn¡¯t get hit! As soon as the horn was about to stab him the player blocked the attack with his dagger in a matter of seconds! Then he pushed the horned rabbit back with his dagger. The player then waited for the horned rabbit to attack. Right away when the horned rabbit attacked the player dashed straight and slashed the horned rabbit in mid-air causing the horned rabbit to fall down from the attack. Not waiting for the horned rabbit to recover the player dashed straight at the horned rabbit again and stabbed it multiple times until it was dead. ¡°What kind of game is this¡­ I wonder how tough the higher level monsters are¡­¡± Kai said to himself as he gazed at the deadly horned creatures After a few moments looking at the clear blue sky while thinking, Kai slowly stood up and yelled at the sky. ¡°There¡¯s no use crying about it now, it¡¯s too late to sell the gaming helmet with my ID on it anyways, and I won¡¯t give up just yet!¡± Kai didn¡¯t want to give up; he thought about Mika, and their horrible lifestyle. If he gave up just because of a stupid rabbit he¡¯ll forever live his life with no hope. ¡®Okay, attack fast and carefully don¡¯t attract other rabbits¡­¡¯ Kai after seeing other players battle just one rabbit he realizes that if you go near a monster they get aggroed and will attack you so instead of rushing head on Kai slowly approached a horned rabbit at the corner of the field all by himself. ¡®Okay¡­ attack him then wait.¡¯ Kai said to himself nervously Kai slowly approached a horned rabbit that was nibbling on some green grass ¡°Aya!¡± *SLASH!* Kai a few meters away from the horned rabbit not getting notice yet ran straight at it and slashed the rabbit with his dagger with all his might -4 HP! ¡°Ha Ha! I did it!¡± The horned rabbit after being surprised attacked was enraged its eyes began to glow red, and quickly got back up getting ready to attack ¡°Oh shit¡­¡± Kai quickly put up his attack stance like he seen a player did before and waited to counter attack. The horned rabbit pounced right at Kai aiming for his Stomach. Kai tried to counter attack with the same move he saw a player did earlier today, but he failed. The horned rabbit ended up stabbing him right in stomach. -4 HP ¡°Well that was a bad idea¡­¡± Kai quickly got up getting ready for the next attack The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.The horned rabbit once again pounced on Kai. Kai instead of trying to counter attack he decided to dodge by moving to the side falling to the ground. -MISS! ¡°Aahh!¡± Instead of waiting for the rabbit to attack, Kai began to crawl fiercely towards the rabbit. Face to face with the Rabbit Kai drew his arm in an arc motion aiming at the rabbit, but at the same time the rabbit also attacked with its sharp horn. -5 HP! -4 HP! Both attacks landed! The horned rabbit stabbed Kai right at the neck while his attack landed on the horned rabbit side. Then Kai who was next to the horned rabbit quickly began stabbing the rabbit without giving it a chance to attack again. -4 HP! -5 HP! -5 HP!
