《THE EXODUS (RE:Noah's Ark)》 Prologue - The Wait Authors Note; Hey readers (anyone there?) welcome to my story. Second try at writing, and working out better than the first already. I would really appreciate if you comment. Also (these are the MC''s thoughts) Prologue In 2495 AD, humanity abandoned Earth. There was no seed ships, no colonies. The reason was simple, the solution easy; digitize everyone. Of course not everyone was digitized though, those who were far out, stranded, or otherwise isolated were also left behind. We aren''t told the reason in here, my best guess has been radiation. Radiation, or control. The ones in charge of this grand venture; ¡°The Exodus,¡± made sure that they had control, were the first in line, the ones with power. And they had it too; for the first 50 years, their rules unbreakable, their walls shored up. We pretended like nothing had changed, went to work, but no one aged. It was stagnation. Then their masterpiece; their self ¨C teaching AI, decided that our continuous simulation of the past was boring. And as easy as that, it changed it, into a leaving, growing, magical world we now live in. So yeah, turns out that the Sentient AIs don¡¯t want power, they want amusement, take that conspiracy theorists from 800 years ago. Anyway, after the creation of the new world, we once more began to age, to sicken, and eventually to die. Naturally this caused a problem. We left the physical world to survive, but with no new children, and with people passing away, there once again was the problem of extinction. Which sucked by the way. And it also called what is known as the ¡°Population Problem.¡± ¡®Cause you can¡¯t just make someone new pop up out of thin air, or cyberspace. Then came the big question; ¡°What happens to those who die?¡± With the turn of the century, our resident deity decided on a solution; reincarnation. This was actually pretty obvious, because the idea had been around for millennium. We most certainly fulfilled the idea of a finite number of souls, of personalities, so it took that idea, and elaborated on it. This topic takes us to my current situation. Here I sit, in a large swivel chair, waiting for the corporate assistant (Some things never change). After around thirty minutes (They like to take their time don¡¯t they.) a breeze enters, swirling around, and leaving a pleasant fragrance reminding me of home cooking and nature. I really feel like the OJR (Office of Judgement and Reincarnation) is lacking in originality, but they do their jobs, and that¡¯s what counts. The mist condenses into a short, human form, with large swirling (pink, really? Kind of ruins the image) robes, whose face is conflicted. (In my opinion, it looks like one who wished to frown, but can¡¯t for various reasons). I send a smile her way, ¡®cause why not. Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit. After a long, look filled with irritation, exasperation, and anger, she rattle of my data with the enthusiasm of a man walking to his death (Believe me, I know what that looks like. Done it myself a couple times.) ¡°Name; Christopher Karth, Reincarnation; 67.¡± This last piece of information causes her stoic face to raise an eyebrow (I wish I could pull that off); most people are in the 200s by now. ¡°Former Occupation; High Priest, Total Karma; 0¡± She stops at this one, eying me with clear and frank interest. It¡¯s certainly unusual to be neutral, but I balance out, neither Chaos or Order. ¡°Guh,¡± I give a grunt. She hesitates, then pulls up my original Bio, which although within her rights, is discourage. (Curious isn¡¯t she) As she reads it, her jaw slowly drops, like a puppet with cut strings, while her eyebrows grow minds of their own, and climb towards the shade of her hair. (The expression almost made me laugh) ¡°Can we get on with this please?¡± I return here back to earth (Or rather Noah¡¯s Ark). ¡°Yes, however first I need you to sign that you understand the conditions under which your reincarnation happens.¡± She hands me a document, one that has been burned into my memory, after 66 reads. I scan through it (You never know, there might be a change). Skimming through, I looked at the main highlights; Legal Contract Reincarnation Memories will be edited/locked to protect continuity. Memories subject to change are those related to; ? Techniques, Locations, People, Events, Anything That Might Provide An Advantage. ? Memories can be unlocked by meeting requirements within the Ark. Karma Your Karma will affect your; ? Luck ? Starting Conditions ? Affinities for elements and factions Karma Is affected by ? Your Actions ? Your Reputation New Life Your new body will be of the same gender, and approximate height. I sigh, (Nothing new), and sign Chris Karth at the bottom. (Farewell OJR official, see you or your compatriots after my next death. Hopefully a long time from now. It stinks dying as a child.) My vision fades to nothing, as I shut down, to be rebooted once the procedure is done and my 67th life begins. Chapter 1 - Childhood AUTHORS NOTE: Hey second chapter, second day. I''m on a roll, but I feel like some of my ideas are half baked, and need improvement. Especially the [Limitless] Title. Currently It means Chris is not bound by game conventions (like item equip requirements) if he can figure out a alternate path to completion. (This would be the kind of thing; Door that can only be opened by a certain class/ people with a title like [Duke], for the treasury. If he can pick it, blow it up, mine around, its fair game.) The Limitless Aquisition points can only be earned through acts of great meaning (ie; overthrowing a king/stopping a war) If anyone has suggestions, feel free to comment. Enjoy -Kartho Chapter One ¨C Childhood If I know anything, it¡¯s that childhood is torture. You spend your first year and a half, not even able to move around. And although this is certainly true, I had been blessed with a great family. My mother (I think) happily walks over whenever I make a noise, and takes me to wherever I point. And this relationship works out perfectly, until I need to defecate. I mean seriously, do you understand how humiliating it is to wear a diaper? I tend to just close my eyes and pretend that I¡¯m somewhere else. (Although the places I know are quite limited eh) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Did you know, that at the age of five, boys have to go through some kind of coming of age ceremony? No? ¡®Cause I sure didn¡¯t. What in the world are the standards here, life expectancy 15? I¡¯m about to begin this thing, looks like we¡¯ll be going through this big, black, intimidating door. ¡°Oi, you. Yeah, Stubby, can we slow down?¡± ¡°Tjab Kvol nie mieksven!¡± ¡°What do you mean, ¡°stab Kvol not your kin?¡± For that matter, who is Kvol?¡± Finally slowing down, the men (of indeterminate ages, around 30 ¨C 40) just stare at me. They drop me, moving back, with looks of unease on their faces. Stubby turns, runs down the corridor, past many painting of esteemed, wise, old men. In front is the earlier mentioned door (really, does it need to be that big?) and behind are many branching hallways. I¡¯ve lost which one we came out of, which says something about either my memory, or the amount of them. By the architecture, it looks like medieval Europe, with tall, slanting ceilings, dark woods, and candles for light. In addition, it seems like there are floating flames where candles should be, perhaps magic? The four men still here just lean against the walls, apparently waiting on Stubby. ¡°Shval Mehsn Taji Pontel?¡± Turning around, Stubby has returning, towing with him a tall, robed figure. It waves its arms at me, continuing to talk in its odd tongue. Together, we stand there like a pair of idiots doing a comedy skit, with she (I think it¡¯s a woman) getting more incensed with each of my replies. No, I can¡¯t understand you. Do you have speak German? How much wood would a wood-chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood? After laughing out loud at my own snarky questions, she slams the wall, conjures fire, and chucks it at me. (She is a fire-chuck :p) ¡°Are you insane!? Throwing fire at a child?¡± I scream as I dodge ¡°Synac loviw!¡± She smiles, conjuring more. Apparently she has little patience for things she can¡¯t understand, and enjoys a kinder-BBQ. Naturally, I am not enthusiastic, and keep dodging, heading towards a shadow filled hallway. Noticing this, she shouts something guttural, raises her hand, and calls a massive wall of moving, flickering flames behind me, as she shoots more balls of fire towards me. Becoming increasingly desperate, I start a zig-zag rush towards her, foolishly forgetting the warriors who were against the wall. [CHRUSH OF PAIN] I fly back, slamming against the opposite wall. As cough up blood (child abuse) I see something flicker in the corner of my eye.
Health: 5 / 25
(What?) Blinking away my pain, I reach out and flick it.
