《Dream World Online》 Chapter 1 - Start! ¡°Alex do you remember the game that I tell you yesterday?¡± ¡°erm, yeah? That virtual reality thing¡± ¡°look! it was being published in the magazine" I showed Alex the newly published magazine, Advenra. It publishes thing that are related to the game. Well, before it was famous around gamer. Because it¡¯s was filled with newly update event in game, dungeon, bosses, rare drop, and all. But now it not just gamer that read it, everyone is reading it. It was discussing The second virtual reality in the world. The first is crap. I don¡¯t want to talk about it now, thinking about it again made my head aches. It was full of pixel, pixel and pixel everywhere, every time I play it there is this weird feeling and I ended up not playing it again. I can¡¯t believe I bought that useless expensive device. I don¡¯t expect too much from the first VRMMORPG but I didn¡¯t think that it will be that bad, well it was the first. So there will be some thing that lacked. A lot people stopped playing it thought. After five year of big lost the Developer decided to close the server. But now the developer had launched another VRMMORPG, Dream World Online. ¡°So the first server will be opened next week huh?¡± Alex looked a bit guilty while looking at it. ¡°yeah, well the first game is crap but I¡¯m sure this one will be great. And winter break is coming, so let¡¯s play it together¡± ¡°nah~, sorry Lon but I won¡¯t play it with you from the start¡± ¡°wait? Why?¡± I was shocked after hearing his word. We usually play these kind of game together. But why not this? The game are great. There are many thing that can¡¯t be explained in the game. I need him to interacting with the NPC and other player. I just can¡¯t talk normally with other people even the NPC. Just for your information I¡¯m an anti-social person. ¡°I don¡¯t really have any reason, it¡¯s just I have another thing to do first¡± Alex face showed another guilty expression ¡°Well okay, I thing I will play when you already done with your problem¡± ¡°No, you can start it without me you know. I remember this person who woke me up in the middle of the night just to sell a rare armor in the central city, and someone who only enters the most deserted servers in the game, and that time when that person needed a party to clear his quest and he----¡° ¡°Stop it¡± I throw a book at Alex before he can finish his sentence ¡°what are you doing Lon, that hurt like hell you know¡± ¡°Just see it, I can play these game without you¡± I leave Alex and sit on my original seat After the school had ended I spent the rest of week researching and learning the game. From what I get, it seem that all the activity in the game are created by some super smart AI computer. We could say that computer was this game¡¯s God. The god created Light and Darkness in the universe. Overtime those two materialized into humanoid shaped creature. While Light and Darkness didn¡¯t have anywhere to go. The God created a place for them and that was Dream World. The two of them become The God of Light/Creation, Aeon and The God of Darkness/Destruction, Zeon. Aeon rule the Upper side of the world and Zeon the underworld. Short story those two God was not in a good term. And for The race it was split into two, the one who worship Aeon and the one who worship Zeon. Angel, human, elf, fairies, and the such are in Aeon side, while undead, vampire, orc, dark elf and such are in Zeon side. Simple isn¡¯t it? For the class I don¡¯t know how to explain it but there¡¯s a lot of it. There are some category it was novice class, basic class, intermediate class, high class, unique class, legendary class, colossal class, godlike class. The last two somehow strange though. Never heard of them in another game. The world map are like layered ball from deep underground to above the sky. Above it there seem to be endless space. I think that all that I know. This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report. Three day before the first server of Dream World online open, the device that I order had already arrived. When it was finally installed in my room I was shocked at how big it was. I though it gonna be like that helmet or google like device that was used in the first game. But now it was like an egg-shaped capsule. I read the manual. It seem to create an account I have to use this device. ¡°Well okay, it time to register to another world, bwahaha¡± I laughed with a dramatic evil tone. ¡°Brother what are you doing laughing like that? You¡¯re bothering the neighbor¡±. I shocked when I heard my sister¡¯s voice through the door. ¡°nothing, just forget it¡± my face was bright red. Do I laughed that hard? What if one of those neighbor of mine heard it? I hide my face behind a pillow and sit on the corner of room, checking the window if anyone is passing my house. It seem there¡¯s no one there. I picked and read the manual again. It seem I have to get naked for the capsule to scan my body. Well it was a device so I think it okay. After entering the device i press the register window-screen. ¡°Do you want register to the main computer?¡± I heard a woman-like computer voice. I was shocked at this but somehow I can reply it with a little awkward answer ¡°erm, yes?¡± . ¡°The device will start scanning your body please say the word you will use to connect to server¡± I think I have read it before the device will asking this, it function is like the log in button. This time I was prepared for it ¡°Start!¡± I don¡¯t want to use some difficult word just to connect to a game. ¡°Are you sure you want to use this word to connect to the server¡± I heard the word that I shouted ¡°Yes please¡±. ¡°Your account have been created do you want go to the next process, Character Creation?¡± oh? I can create my Character before I the server opened, Well I don¡¯t have anything to do later , ¡°yes¡±. ¡°Please say the word¡± what word? Wait, that word? ¡°Start!¡± my vision suddenly goes into black space -------------------------------------------------- Chapter 2 - Hunter Village Even though the space was filled with darkness, I can feel my body was dragged forward. I thought it was the loading screen. But then my body suddenly stopped moving. After stopping a while, I¡¯m starting to feel uneasy. ¡°Where am i? do I get stuck in here?¡± I started to panic. Don¡¯t tell me this was the part when someone can¡¯t leave a virtual reality game and his mind will be trapped inside the game. No, I don¡¯t want to die in a game. This is horrible, I didn¡¯t want this. Should I start yelling? Maybe someone will notice it if there was some high-pitched voice coming from here. There¡¯s nothing wrong with trying right?. ¡°Hel¡ª¡° as I¡¯m starting to looking for help, a hand suddenly hit my heat ¡°ouch that hurt¡± ¡°Don¡¯t you dare yelling¡± a familiar voice was coming from right in front of me. I can¡¯t see his face. What are other people do in this place? Aren¡¯t the only people that can see character creation are the person who will create the character and invited friend? The window was split into two sided color and five starting race for each side. Black-dark red color combination for the left side and blue-light yellow color combination for the right side. I think it tell us which side do each race belong to. In Zeon side there was dark elf, orc, undead, ghost, demon on the other hand Aeon side had human, elf, dwarf, nature spirit, beastman. I don¡¯t really want to pick a flashy race so human is fine for me. Human do benefit for it balanced stat and a 1% bonus for skill mastery. ¡°Can I chose human?¡± afterward another perfect copy of mine was appeared before me. But this time it was wearing a set of novice equipment. ¡°I do seem quite cool huh?¡± I said with confident tone while admiring the other me. The guide seem to just ignore my word. ¡°Do you want to customize your character appearance?¡± well I would like to but what Alex said still bugging me. ¡°erm, No¡± ¡°What would your character name be?¡± Name, I hate this part. Well anything will do so I will just use my first name ¡°Arlon¡± ¡°Arlon will be your character name, are you sure about it?¡± ¡°Yes¡± well it not like I was the only person with Arlon in their name. ¡°Now, please pick your starting point on Aeon territory¡± the map of the Upper World of the game was displayed before me. I saw some dot and other symbol there. ¡°The dot symbolize the town, the bigger the dot then the bigger the town was. The town which was sparkling now is the available starting town.¡± The guide explain it to me. The cross and skull symbol seem to represent dangerous zone, I just have to pick a place that was far from those symbol. I want to choose a town that won¡¯t be flooded with people at the beginning of the game and that was when I saw a sparkling tiny dot in the outer part of a forest. The name was ¡°Hunter Village¡± I accidentally said the name that was displayed above the dot. ¡°Hunter Village will be your starting point, are you sure about it?¡± ¡°Yes¡± it seem luck has brought me there. "Your character have been created" Wait what? no i was getting carried away by the situation, now that i take a look at it again. There is a hell of big cross symbol there. Chapter 3 - Granddaughter It seem that I can¡¯t just cancel it. I just set my death flag there, player can only create one character and to just delete a character you need to wait for two weeks. DWO first server will be opened three day later, that mean if I deleted this character I have to wait eleven days to create another one. Eleven days is a long time, There¡¯s no other choice then. I just have to use this character and see what happen. I log out and let out a long sigh. ¡°I should try searching information about DWO again¡± while browsing I found many people that had already create some guide about making account and character creation. It seem the in game guide was taking the shaped of people who we comfortable to be with and will be our Guardian Spirit in game later. In that case I kinda understand why he was a copy of me. But what is that? Guardian spirit? I joined the most deserted chat room. It seem only five people are online, so I asked some question to them. ¡°What wrong with their attitude? They don¡¯t seem to be a NPC¡± i was just finished typing that when another user with the nickname Ruka asking another question right after me. ¡°So what do Guardian Spirit do?¡± Doesn¡¯t her guardian spirit do something strange to? Like hit her head or something? Maybe it was different each player then. It was then when another person called Iris appeared and answering our question. ¡°They¡¯re NPC that was created by The God to help the player adventure in game, even though they¡¯re just a NPC. As an VRMMORPG they had the ability to think just like other people so try to be in good term with your own guide. Guardian Spirit work as a feature that help the player to identify monster, item, region, and the such. It have it¡¯s own level, to identify high level monster you need to have high leveled Guardian Spirit. For rare and above category monster you Guardian spirit will need to have some ability. It can acquired an ability and be leveled when you¡¯re giving it some monster¡¯s drop¡± she seem to know a lot about it, I want to ask who she was. But aren¡¯t that a bit to personal? ¡°How do you know a lot about it? it wasn¡¯t in the manual¡± Ruka suddenly asking another question. How bold can this girls be? Doesn¡¯t she know that some people want to keep their information source for themselves or something like that? I think I¡¯ll just stay silent for now. ¡°you can think of me as someone who are related to DWO development, sorry but I have another thing to do. Report sightings. ¡°What is a GM?¡± Ruka asked another question, maybe she was a newbie in this kind of thing. That explain her full of question attitude. ¡°You¡¯re a newbie gamer huh? Well it was some sort of like a game admin I think¡± Rei answered, and somehow I know that huh Tone. But I don¡¯t want to butt in other people matter, so I will just leave my familiarity feeling. There¡¯s another thing that bugging does it was only me who picked that village? ¡°Where is your starting point? I somehow picked hunter village¡± it okay to ask their starting point right? I was telling them my starting point too. ¡°I¡¯m there too, can we play together?¡± at least it wasn¡¯t not just me who picked that village. wait? Ruka? But she was a girl. I don¡¯t think a girl will be useful in a virtual reality battle. As thought the person can tell what I will think the mysterious person who had never talk send me a private message ¡°You did better help her kid, I¡¯m Ruka¡¯s grandfather. If there¡¯s something bad happened to her I will kill you¡± I can feel some tiger-like aura from his word. So the mysterious guy was Ruka''s Granfather. But more importantly, what up with that Ruka girls. Why does someone bringing their grandfather to play a game? ¡°Leave it to me, I¡¯ll keep her all and good¡± I can reply Ruka¡¯s grandfather with a forced answer. do i have another choice, he said he will kill me. i''ll just playing the safe way ¡°Good, I¡¯ll leave my granddaughter to you then¡± he seem to be satisfied, but i don''t thing he will leave me alone untill he see any proof of my word. ¡°Of course Ruka, I¡¯ll add you on my friend list later. what¡¯s your Character name? mine Arlon¡± what a bad luck I have to hunt monster with this girls. ¡°Well thank you, my character name was Ruka¡± it good that she was using something simple. -Grandfather left the room- 3 guest remaining ¡°Why do you guys choose that village? that village was dangerous for newbie player you know, the description tell that there are six high leveled raid boss there, as for me I picked Serlom Village¡± this time Rei warned us about the village. ¡°Those big cross symbol represent the location of a treasure aren¡¯t it?¡± Ruka somehow able to reply with naive answer ¡°well yeah, but to obtain it you need to complete special quest or killing some difficult monster. It¡¯s not a good place to start a new character, even the lowest monster was at lv 10 ¡± Before the conversation continued I left the chat room, and shut down my computer. Now I¡¯m trapped with a newbie girl in a village surrounded with monsters. All this mental stress is making me tired and it was already night. So I¡¯ll just go take a quick bath and go to bed. Chapter 4 - Sudden Death Two day had already passed since the chat room incident, and three hours remaining before DWO server opened. ¡°Brother, breakfast was ready¡± I could hear my sister¡¯s voice through the door and the sound of knocked door. ¡°It morning already, I want to sleep again¡± I complaining to myself while preparing to go down stairs. If I''m going to sleep, I don¡¯t know what she will do to me. Last time she almost burnt my bed because of that. When other people see her maybe she seem like a cute little sister¡¯s but she was a real sadistic inside. Just like everyday my sister was watching the news while eating. ¡°Brothers look at the news, that woman killed her lover because he was two timing her and keep his corpse in her house for a week, aren¡¯t it romantic she killed her lover because she doesn¡¯t want him to be with other person¡± which part of that was romantic. There something strange with her head. ¡°You should stop reading those novel Yuki¡± we only had one year difference, but these past day I bought those shady looking novel for them, well she was asking for a genre that she never read before. I think I should stop spoiling her. ¡°So brother how¡¯s the game that you bought last months. I don¡¯t think I¡¯ll need to teach her anything, she was a fast learner. She will understand about the game after she read the manual. After taking a quick bath and finished my breakfast I goes back to my room. It was just half an hour before the server opened. i decide to order the device for my sister¡¯s before entering the game. The clock was showing 08:42 AM. Eighteen minutes remaining, it was the longest half an hour in my life. I could hear the clock sound every second. when my alarm suddenly ringing. I know it was the time, I immediately entered the device. I could hear the same woman-like computer voice. ¡°Please say the word¡± somehow I don¡¯t really like it when she say it like that. ¡°Start!¡± I opened my eyes and see a view of a beautiful village, I had been transferred to my starting point. But it strange, a starting point usually filled with NPC and I can¡¯t even see a any people here. ¡°Where are the NPC?¡± I was looking around when I saw a few soldiers waving their hand to my direction from behind a wall. Maybe they know something. ¡°Can I ask something?¡± it was then when I could hear that they¡¯re yelling something. ¡°G¡ªaw-y ¨Cro- the¡ª¡° I couldn¡¯t clearly heard what they say, so I wait there until I could see their face. But there¡¯s something strange here. Their expression show that they¡¯re terrified by something, and then one of them was yelling again. ¡°Go away from there¡± it was then when the area ten meters around me covered by dark shadow. When I see what thing do made that giant shadow. A giant black dragon was flying right above me. I couldn''t even mutter any word when his mouth suddenly devoured half of my body.

I also saw the so called in game guide laughed at some kind of big window screen. ¡°Why do I¡¯m in this place again?¡± I tried to ask him, usually when a player died in a battle they would have some choice like be teleported to nearby town or starting point, asking a priest/healer to resurrect him, and the such. ¡°I can¡¯t believe it, congratulation you had become the very first player who died in Dream World Online¡± are that some kind of hidden achievement or he was just mocking me? ¡°How do you know that I died? Don¡¯t tell me you¡¯re some kind of perverted stalker¡± I tried to somehow reply his mocking, but it seem he just ignored it. ¡°Back to your first question. This space was character¡¯s home server in Dream World Online, for now Dream World online only had one server. When a player died in the game, their soul will be transported to their own home server and must wait two hours in real life time or they can log out from here¡± so I had to wait that long huh? Wait what do he mean by the real life time? ¡°What do you mean by real life time? does it the same as one hour in real life then it was four hours in the game?¡± I can¡¯t believe such thing would be real. If it was right, I could spend the rest of my life here. ¡°No it was on the contrary, one hour in the game means four hours in real life time¡± what? It like cutting my lifetime into half. The game was so messed up, i even died the first time I logging in. Wait, How long have I been here. It would be bad if I spent too much time here, I¡¯m starting to get a panic attack. ¡°Nah~, just kidding. You should¡¯ve looked at yourself, your expression was hilarious¡± this time he was laughing at me again. Why do I¡¯m getting bullied by my guide? ¡°The truth is, just like what you said. This game had four to one comparison time in real life, like if one month had passed in the game then that mean only one week passed in real life. I couldn¡¯t keep talking to you without knowing your name¡± ¡°You haven¡¯t given me any name, try to open your guardian spirit window. Just focus your concentration¡± ¡°Well, I¡¯ll try¡± Guardian spirit window, guardian spirit window. I tried to concentrating it name. Then a window suddenly appeared in front of me. ¡°Yes¡± Chapter 6 - Nightmare After I logged out from Dream World Online, i checked the forum again. I could see the view of new post, people who had already logged in sharing their picture and experience from the game. ¡°damn you people, you get to enjoy your time as newbie in peaceful village and hunting zone. As for me there¡¯s a fucking giant dragon at my starting point¡± I was cursing my own damn luck, as I¡¯m scrolling the screen down. It was then when I saw the deserted chat room I joined last time. How could I know? Well the title of that chat room was easy to remember ¡°asdfghjkl;¡¯¡± it as if the person who created that chat room just dragged his finger when he made it. Only two people online, I think that grandfather person only there to find a guardian for his granddaughter before. So he won¡¯t be there this time. I decided to joined that chat room again.

I have to go now, good luck with your dragon-hunter village¡± he just add the hunter with dragon, but somehow it sounded fitting.

Well I want to ask them what just happened to the village. But still I don¡¯t really like talking to other people, even if they¡¯re NPC. It would be easier if I could just ask someone who I already know, so I decide to call Kain. ¡°Kain, I summon you¡± I saw some kind of light appeared from nowhere and starting to materialize into human shape. I could feel the rusty iron sword sliced my back, my blood was flowing from the wounds. Why won''t this game won¡¯t just let me die already, I shouldn''t have survive another hit. The skeleton was immediately turned into ash. When I looked at the new creature, I could see the creature had a brown fur covering his body, with a golden ring through its nose, a pair of short black horns on its head, and a pair of red eyes, with a huge silver axe on its hands. ¡°Damn, another monster appeared. I guess this was my end huh? Well I will be resurrected after two hours, so I think it will fine¡± I closed my eyes again, now I¡¯m sure I¡¯ll be killed . I smiled to myself. But not like what I expected the monster lifted me and carried me on his shoulder. I come toward the floating screen. ¡°Wha--?, isn¡¯t this¡ªmy memories?¡± what I saw in the screen was a child sitting alone near the window in his room, the child was hugging his knees. As he was watching the neighboring children playing hide and seek together, I could see that there¡¯s some sort of sad lonely expression on his face. The boy eyes look like, tears can drop at any moments. He was envious of their happiness, their laugh, and their smile. It was then when the LED light from the boy¡¯s computer blinked. He roused himself from his position to check out the notification.

How could I dreaming in a game. What made him angry was not the fact that he saw his old memories, but because his old self showed him the memories. It felt like his old self was blaming himself, it not like he felt guilty or anything. He knows back then if only he had the courage to join the neighboring children that time, he wouldn¡¯t be showing that kind of expression. Afterward I could see that he was pointing toward another direction. ¡°what? What are you gonna show me this time?!¡± I turned my body around, from afar I could see there¡¯re someone else in this dark space room. I couldn¡¯t see his face clearly, so I don¡¯t know who he was. I tried to approach him, and yet after running a while I know there¡¯s something odd here. No matter how long I run my way toward him, our distances didn¡¯t seem to get any closer. After keep running for a while I could feel that my body was getting tired, I leaned my body to the dark room¡¯s floor. But instead of giving me a comfortable rest, the floor was drowning me. I tried to extended my hands above, hoping that there will be someone who will save me. But there¡¯s no one there, after all this time. I was always alone.
