《Devils Knight》 Chapter 1: My Awakening ''It''s beautiful..'' He thought as his left hand slowly swept over the gaming capsule, barely even touching it. It had taken him months to save up for the capsule, every single penny he earned from his mediocre job as a waiter went towards buying the capsule. With his free hand he moved the dark brown hair that was constantly getting in the way of his blue and brown eyes, when the door opened with a creak. A slim blonde with a soft smile and warm blue eyes entered through the doorway, her smile widened when she saw the capsule. "I see that your capsule has arrived, Ethan?" She asked in a voice that would put angels to shame. "Yes," replied Ethan, not even glancing at the beautiful blonde, "isn''t it amazing Sarah? With this, I can travel and explore a whole knew world." Said Ethan, not even trying to hide the excitement that made his voice quiver and chest pound. Sarah couldn''t help but chuckle at her little brothers excitement, "don''t take too long to catch up, I won''t accept you if you''re a weakling." She said, poking out her tongue as she closed the door behind her. ''Pfft, whatever,'' thought Ethan as he scowled at the door his sister just closed, ''You''ll see, I''ll be the strongest there is.'' He thought to himself as he continued to admire his new toy. Ethan was sitting cross legged on his bed facing the capsule whilst he ate his dinner, a plate full of chicken nuggets, Ethan'' personal favourite. Once Ethan had demolished his plate of chicken nuggets he once again walked over to his capsule to admire it one more time, ''I''m coming,'' he thought as he lovingly stroked the expensive gaming hardware, admiring its flashing green and red lights that reflected in his brown and blue eyes. He opened the capsules lid and entered for the very first time, closing the lid once he was inside. Darkness and silence greeted him, "did I do something wrong?" he asked as the silence continued for a few more seconds, and then, out of nowhere came an automated female voice. "Iris scan completed, no known user, would you like to register?" Asked the robotic woman. "Yes, I would like to register." Was Ethan'' reply, his voice quivering with anticipation. "Please choose a name." "Markl." "Are you sure?" "Yes." Replied Ethan. "Gender." "Male." The darkness subsided and was replaced by a blinding white light that was endless in all directions, one by one figures began to appear in front of his eyes, a human, an elf, a faery and a reptilian. "There are a total of twenty five races to play as, but only four are available, please choose carefully." Ethan began to walk near the closest figure, the human. ''He looks exactly like me..'' he thought as he looked at the figure standing in front of him, the human had medium length brown hair that was slightly curled at the ends, his left eye was light blue whilst his right was dark brown, he was as thin as a twig with barely any muscle and stood at 5''7", ''I think I''ll play as something that isn''t a human,'' he thought, walking past his doppelg?nger, the next figure that stood in front of him was that of the elf, he had long elegant light brown hair that flowed down his back, sharply pointed ears protruded from the sides of the flowing brown hair, his eyes were like that of the humans, one light blue, one dark brown which accented the rather feminine facial features, he was lean, not twig thin like the human, and the elf also stood half a head taller than the human, ''it''s a little.... Feminine, for my liking.'' he thought to himself as he took one last look at the elf before he moved on to the Faery. The Faery, surprising enough, didn''t look too bad, he stood a head shorter than the human, with medium length dark brown hair, slightly pointed ears, eyes that seemed to have been applied to every pre-set, a lean body, kind of like a small scale elfs, and on the Faeries back were a pair of beautiful translucent wings that resembled the wings of a dragonfly, ''this might be it.'' thought Ethan as he viewed the Faery in front of him, he may not look like the type, but Ethan always had a soft spot for Faeries, his mother loved them, and after she passed, his fondest memories of her were the bedtime stories she used to tell him. "I choose to be a Faery." He said, not even bothering to look at the bipedal lizard. "Are you sure you wish to play as a Faery?" Asked the automated female. "Yes." "Registration completed, please enjoy your time in ''Fallen.''" The white room turned black as if a button had been pushed, the figures lost from sight, the silence once again returning, ''I''m almost there.'' Ethan thought with a grin as he patiently waited for the game to start. Multiple shades of green and brown melted through the darkness that surrounded him, slowly forming shapes and patterns, chatter from the players and NPC''s alike drifted through the silence. Before Ethan knew what was happening he was standing in the middle of a small forest town, houses and stores were built high up in the trees as well as merchants selling their goods on the ground below, Ethan was awestruck, ''this is far more beautiful than I imagined,'' he thought as he stood there with his mouth gaping and his eyes wide in disbelief. He was surrounded by tall, beautiful trees that seemed to touch the sky with their tops, the shades of green and brown melding together created a serene view that was further accentuated by the charming little tree-house village above. A Faery flew down from the trees above and approached him, her long green hair was lightly blowing in the wind along with the light blue dress that modestly covered her petite body. She landed on the grass in front of Ethan and smiled warmly at him. "Hello traveller, my name is Rani, I take in the new arrivals." Said Rani, with a smile that could melt the coldest of hearts. "It''s a pleasure to meet you Rani," Replied Ethan, with a smile that matched her warmth perfectly, "my name is Markl." "Markl? What a lovely name!" Cried Rani, her emerald green eyes shining and her wings slightly fluttering. "Thank you." Replied Markl, blushing slightly. "Just follow me and I will walk you through all the things that you will need to know before you begin." As she finished speaking she turned around and extended her wings, readying herself to take off. "I don''t know how to fly yet.." Said Markl in a small voice, a little embarrassed by his lack of knowledge. "Just focus on flying and you will fly." Said Rani with a little giggle. Markl stuck out his tongue as he fell into deep concentration, attempting to will his wings to work. Nothing. ''God dammit,'' he thought as he almost popped the massive vein protruding from his forehead with the force of his concentrative state. And then, out of nowhere, his wings started to flap lightly, lifting him a few inches from the forest floor. "I''m flying!" He cried, his bright smile reaching both ears. "Indeed you are," Replied Rani, rather amused by this particular Faery, "but don''t go overboard." She warned. But, it was too late, Markl decided to see how fast his new wings would take him, he flapped them vigorously as he shot through the air, barely managing to avoid the seemingly endless ocean of trees that flew by in a blur. He flew in a u-turn and started to make his way back to Rani, who was waiting patiently at the place she had met Markl. Markl flew at a great speed in her direction, it didn''t take him long to realize his mistake. ''I don''t know how to land this fucking thing!'' He thought in panic. "AAAAAAAGH!!!" Screamed Markl as he flew over Rani and crashed face first into the trunk of a massive tree, a loud thud resounded through the forest. Rani just giggled as she picked up his un-concious body and threw him over her shoulder before flying to the tree-houses above. Pain. Throbbing pain. ''The top of my head feels like it was just hit with a sledge hammer,'' thought Markl as he groaned. "Ah, you''re awake," said a familiar voice that let out a familiar giggle. "What happened?" Asked Markl as he sat up, rubbing his sore head. As he opened his eyes, he was incredibly confused, ''where the fuck am I?'' he thought as his cloudy eyes scanned his surroundings, he seemed to be in a wooden shack, a small wooden shack with only a single bed and a large cupboard, the dark brown wood covered all sides, the only light was that of a small candle in the corner, it didn''t even have windows. "I was teaching you how to fly and you had a bit of an accident," said Rani, letting out another trademark giggle, "now you are in my home, it isn''t much but I hope that you were comfortable." Said the pretty young Faery in front of him with a beautiful smile that was warmer than the sun. Markl blushed from embarrassment as he recalled his attempt at flying, "thank you," he replied, his face now entirely red. Yet another giggle! "You''re funny," said the green haired, green eyed Faery as she smiled at Markl, amused. "..." Markle chose to stay silent, ''I''ve embarrassed myself enough today,'' he thought. "Shall we continue with our lessons, or do you need more rest?" Asked Rani as she poked out her tongue. "Do I need to fly?" He asked in response, hoping that he would not. Rani let out another giggle as she shook her head, "no, no more flying for now." She replied, still rather entertained. ''Thank god,'' thought Markl as he sat up, lifted the covers and rose from Rani'' bed. "To open your status screen, just say, ''status screen.''" "Status screen."

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience. ''Weak.'' thought Markl as he cringed at his stats, ''I''ll need to work hard if I want to be strong.'' "Don''t look so down!" Said Rani with a little smile, "you only just started playing, what did you expect, to be as strong as god?" She asked, letting loose yet another adorable giggle. "Here, take this." She said as she extended her hand which held a relatively normal looking sword. "It''s not much, but at least now you can fight."
Common Sword
Type:SwordDurability:25 / 30
Quality:Common
A common sword that is made in bulk to satisfy the demand for new trainees. It does 10-15 damage, not too bad for a common blade. Requirements: -Level 1
"Thank you." Said Markl, his eyes shining as he stared at the blade and caressed it lovingly. "You really are different to most of the travellers I''ve met." Said Rani, the warmth in her silk smooth voice evident. "How so?" Asked Markl, unable to take his eyes off of the sword that Rani gave him. "Most travellers treat us natives poorly, as if we are beneath them, but you are different, you are.. Kind." The last word was said in a voice so soft that Markl almost missed it, but, he didn''t, and after hearing what she said and the tone she said it in, his face reddened again! Markl'' red face was greeted by yet another one of Rani'' giggles as he stood there, silent. "Shall we get familiar with combat?" She asked with a smile. "Yes please!" Said Markl as his eyes shone brighter and his smile widened. Rani lead Markl into a clearing that was occupied by some foxes and rabbits, the clearing was the size of an Olympic sized swimming pool, the grass was short and there were only a few bushes along the edges of the tall trees. ''About time I got to kill something!'' Thought Markl as he equipped his new blade and turned to Rani, waiting for instructions. "As you may have noticed, the body that you are in feels very similar to the ''real'' body that you travellers possess, moving here is like moving there." "Yes," replied Markl, "that is correct." "So all you need to do is swing a sword here like you would there, it''s that easy!" Said Rani, giggling again. "So, I just swing it, and that''s it?" "Yes, all you need to do is swing your sword at the target, well, for now, you will pick up technique when you get more experience, just train often, and never go for an enemy that you cannot handle." Replied Rani as she looked at the rabbits and foxes playing in the clearing, without a worry in the world, for now. Markl ran into the clearing, Rani flew a few metres above him to give him advice, the ears of the grey rabbits and the red foxes shot up as they heard the foot steps closing in, the rabbits ran for cover and the foxes bared their fangs and growled at the incoming Faery, Markl closed in on the animals quite fast and brought his sword up and then down onto the closest of the three foxes.
-15 HP
The fox let out a yelp as it backed away, the two foxes beside it growled louder and started snapping at him. "The left!" Cried Rani as the fox to Markl'' left jumped at him, aiming for his throat, Markl brought up his sword and impaled the foxes chest with his blade.
Fatal Blow!
He threw the fox to the side, its limp body fell to the earth without so much as a final yelp. Keeping his eyes on the two remaining foxes, he started to circle them, the two foxes didn''t take their eyes off of the Faery either, waiting for the time to strike. And that time is now! The previously injured fox jumped at his ankle, clamping on with its sharp teeth. "Ow!"
-10 HP
"Be careful!" Rani cried anxiously. "Don''t worry about me Rani, it''s just a scratch." Replied Markl, smiling so as to not worry the cute Faery girl. While the fox continued to bite into his ankle, the second fox made its move, jumping for his throat like the first fox did. "Watch out!" Rani cried. "I know." Was Markl'' reply as he drove his fist into the face of the incoming fox, throwing it back a few feet.
-7 HP
Once that fox was momentarily taken care of, he drove his blade through the heart of the fox that was biting his ankle.
Fatal Blow!
The last fox stood up only to realize that it was the last one standing, it growled at Markl with hatred evident in its tone. "It''s the last one, after this we will head back." Rani said as she hovered above him. "Ok, sounds good to me." Markl replied as he watched the last fox approaching, its teeth bared and eyes wild. The fox tried to jump at him again, but with a swift slash of his blade, he cut off the head of the agitated animal.

''This is going to take a while...'' Thought Markl as Rani landed on the grass next to him in the open field surrounded by tall and beautiful trees. "Don''t expect too much on the first day," she told him, her green hair and blue dress fluttering in the warm breeze, and showing a smile even warmer. "Sorry, I can''t help it," Markl replied with a sheepish grin, "should we head back?" He asked her, tired from his first fight in this world. "Aren''t you going to pick up the loot?" She asked, knowing that he would have forgotten. "Ah, yes, of course," he replied, still sporting that goofy grin and red cheeks. Rani let out her trademark giggle, "when monsters or animals die, the loot drops close by them," she said, "make sure to pick up everything, if it''s not helpful, you can sell it." "Thank you, I''ll remember that." Replied Markl, smiling at the Faery girl. Markl bent down and examined the loot that the foxes had dropped.

"Not too bad at all." He said to Rani who smiled in return. "What did you get?" She asked, hoping that her new friend would get some decent items. "3 pelts, a head and 15 copper." Was his reply. They started walking back to the tree line in the direction that they had came from, ready to go back to the charming little Faery village high in the trees. the tall trees swayed in the wind, their green leaves rustling as the branches were pushed back and forth. Markl took a deep breath as he looked up into the tree tops, the sweet smell of the forest filled his nose, soothing his mind. ''This all feels so.... Real,'' he thought as the earthen smell filled his nose again. Markl and Rani continued to walk and chat on their way to the small Faery village, it was nothing important, just idle chat so as to not pass the time in silence as they walked through the serene forest. As they got closer to the village in the trees they could hear merchants announcing their wares, players talking in excited tones as they spoke about quests and items that they had received. Markl approached the closest merchant and asked, "how much would you give me for 3 fox pelts and a head?" "The pelts will be 2 copper each and the head will be 3 silvers." Happy with the offer, Markl sold the items and bought some leather armour, extinguishing his small funds.

After he equipped his armour he turned to Rani. "How do I get a class?" Asked Markl. "What do you want to be?" Rani asked in turn. "I don''t know." Was the helpful reply. "Well, you''re a lot of help aren''t you?" Said Rani as she giggled at the young man. The playful banter between Markl and Rani continued for a short while longer until it was time for Markl to log out for a while. "I need to go for a while, will you wait for me?" Asked Markl, hopeful that the cute Faery girl will be here when he returns so that they could have more fun. Her pretty green eyes widened in surprise at what Markl said, it wasn''t very often that a traveller so much as spoke kindly to the natives let alone hoped to spend more time with them. Her face began to redden, she fumbled with her hands, her wings started to flutter slightly and her eyes were cast downwards at the ground between them. "y- yes, I''ll wait for you." She said in a soft voice, barely audible, whilst still fidgeting. This time it was Markl'' turn to giggle! "Hmph!" She said as she turned her head to the side, her green hair swaying with the motion, her red cheeks just visible from the side, her straight green hair hiding most of her face from view. Markl chuckled at her reaction, and feeling the warm rays that broke through the shelter of the tall, green trees one last time, he logged out. The capsules lid opened up, Ethan rubbed his eyes with his palms, a big grin lit up his face, ''That was fun, very fun.'' He thought as he remembered how it felt to fly between the trees and swing a sword with his own two hands. He sat up in the capsule and stretched his arms and legs before stepping out and closing the lid behind him. Ethan'' room was rather bare, all he had was his bed, his capsule, a bedside table with a lamp and an alarm clock as well as a small cupboard for his clothes, the way he saw it was, ''if you don''t need it, don''t have it.'' and although the capsule isn''t essentially necessary, Ethan was convinced that if he didn''t have an escape, a place where he didn''t need to worry about all of the everyday troubles, he would go insane. Ethan looked at his alarm clock.
6:27 PM
''Half an hour until work,'' he groaned as he thought about all the customers he would have to deal with, although, it wasn''t the number of the customers that got to him, but their attitude, Ethan worked as a waiter at a high class gourmet restaurant called "Provenance," all the customers tended to be rich, arrogant, impatient and, to say the least, just plain insulting. The rich that dined in Provenance just loved to push around their weight and treat everyone as trash. ''But, it could be worse,'' he thought as he walked towards his bedroom door, ''I could be the chef.'' Ethan smiled at his thought as he pictured some fat, pompous, rich prick sending back their rare steak, because, and I quote, "It''s undercooked." Ethan hated people who acted like they knew it all. He turned the door handle and made his way to the shower, closing the door behind him, he walked down the hall until he reached the last room on his left, he opened the door and entered, closing it behind him. Ethan stripped down to nothing and turned on the shower, exhaling slowly as the warm water washed away his anxiety, Ethan loved showers. All of his muscles relaxed as the water caressed them, soothing the strain that the long days of working had placed on them. The steam hugged him tightly as the droplets of water fell, it was warm and calming, like the embrace of a loving mother, that''s why Ethan always loved showers; when his mother first died, he would sit at the bottom of the shower, revelling in its soothing warmth and pretending it was all a bad dream. Although Ethan was no longer in denial of his mothers death, he still felt comforted by the warmth and cherished every moment of it, as if it was a gift just for him. "Is the summer salad a vegetarian dish?" The middle-aged woman asked in a disdainful tone, a tone that lacked any respect for the man in front of her. The middle-aged woman, a self proclaimed "Lady," was, in everyone else'' eyes, a morbidly obese monstrosity, her chins were dripping beads of sweat down her unsightly cleavage, thankfully her dress, skilfully sewn with lovely dark crimson silk, left more than enough to the imagination; her beady toad eyes darting around the restaurant, staring at everything and everyone in disgust. ''How unsightly,'' thought Ethan, as he used every ounce of his willpower not to vomit on the beached whale. "Yes ma''am, the summer salad is a vegetarian dish." He replied, his facial muscles burning from maintaining the forced smile he has worn for the past three years of his working life. The obese whale toad laughed shrilly as he answered her question. "People of your stature must refer to me as, ''Lady.''" She said, not even trying to hold back her arrogant tone. Ethan did not like that. "Will it just be the summer salad?" He asked in a calm voice that did not match the raging inferno of anger burning inside of him. "Yes, that will be all, I''m watching my weight, you see." She replied in a prideful tone. ''With your weight it would be hard to miss.'' He thought, smiling genuinely for the first time since he started work that night. "I shall return as soon as your order is ready." He said, now leaving the toad woman'' territory and retreating to the safety of the kitchen. "Order up!" He said, in a louder voice than usual. "Yup." Replied the chef as he slaved over a frying pan, re-cooking a steak for some arrogant rich kid, trying to impress a girl. Chapter 2.2: Easing Into Darkness A.N: Part 2 of a 2 part chapter ***************************************************************************************** 3 hours and 15 arrogant customers later, it was time to head home. ''Thank fucking god.'' Thought Ethan as he left the restaurant and walked towards his car, a black Ford Falcon, his pride and joy. It didn''t take very long to get home, he only lived 15 minutes away from his workplace, which was good, because he didn''t need to spend too much on gas. ''I''ll sleep tonight and log back in tomorrow, I''m too tired for games at the moment,'' he thought as he locked the front door behind him. He walked down the hall to his bedroom, closed the door behind him and slumped down into bed without bothering to get undressed, he just wanted to sleep, nothing else. *** Rani Lay in her bed, she hadn''t slept that night, she was too busy thinking, thinking about him, the only traveller that ever treated her with respect and kindness, not the fake kindness that most travellers used to gain what they needed before they left, but real kindness, something she could call a friendship. Friendship. Something that she never dared to dream of fell right into her lap, for the first time since the travellers came, she was happy, genuinely happy, all because of one man, and something as small as a little kindness. *KnockKnockKnock* Somebody had rapped their knuckles on Rani'' small shack door. "Coming." She said as she leapt from her bed and took a moment to regain her composure. *** Foot steps could be heard on the hardwood floor, and soon the door was opened to reveal a small and pretty Faery with long light green hair and a blue dress, her soft green eyes shone as she saw who was at her door. "You came back!" She cried in happiness, her wings fluttering slightly, barely even noticeable. "Of course I did," replied Markl, "we still have plenty of fun to catch up on." He said with a warm smile that made the small Faery girl blush. The bright sky was as clear as ever in the small Faery town high in the trees, the suns light shone through the tree tops to the ground below, the light breeze swayed the leaves, making their shadows dance. The merchants were relaxing in the shade as customers, players and NPC''s alike, browsed their wares. Markl and Rani were following the merchants example and relaxing beneath the shade of a tree that had a nice view of the charming little village. "So, what will we do today?" Asked Rani, excited to have fun with her new friend. "How about a quest?" He asked, "but not just any quest, a fun quest!" He cried with enthusiasm, making Rani giggle. "What kind of quest would you class as fun?" She asked with a smile. "A quest where I get to fight a lot." Replied Markl in a serious tone, making Rani giggle yet again. "If you go and speak to the miner, Durin, he will have a quest to your liking." Said Rani in a serious tone that made Markl chuckle. Before too long, they were both giggling in the shade of the tall tree. The place that Rani had taken him to was a small wooden shack just like hers, it was relatively small, made of hardwood and had no windows. Rani knocked on the door and waited for the reply. "It''s open!" Sounded a gruff voice. Rani opened the door and walked inside, Markl not far behind her, much like Rani'' shack, it was rather small, with only a bed, a large cupboard and a steel headed pickaxe leaning against it. "Hello traveller, and if it isn''t Rani!" Laughed the muscular old Faery, his grey hair and beard not matching his blue eyes full of life and vigour. "Durin!" Rani cried in happiness at the sight of her old friend, "do you still need someone for that quest? If so then please give it to my friend!" "Friend?" Said Durin in amazement, "but he''s a traveller, I thought you hated travellers?" Asked the old man, eyeing Markl closely. "Not Markl, he''s different, I... Trust him." Said Rani, her voice soft. "Is that so?" The old Faery asked rhetorically. "Yes." Was Rani'' reply. Durin cackled at her answer and turned to the boy, "it won''t be easy," he said, "but if you want it you can have it." "Yes please!" Markl replied, barely able to contain his excitement.
Quest: Don''t Touch That, It''s Mine! The old Faery Durin'' mine has been over run with goblins, he wants you to eradicate the goblins that infest the mine. Conditions: - Rewards: 1x small ruby +300 experience Failure: Death Do you wish to accept? y/n
"Yes!" Replied Markl, the old Faery laughed again. "You managed to pick a good one Rani," said Durin, "good and strong!" "I- I know." She replied, her face completely red. Markl just stayed quiet, not understanding the situation, Rani turned towards the door and exited the small shack, as did Markl, closing the door behind him. The birds were chirping amongst themselves, making the forest seem even livelier, the warm breeze pushed the leaves back and forth, pushing the shadows on the forest floor along with them. Markl fell in love with the peacefulness of the forest, the feeling of serenity that flowed through him, dissolving all of his worries. "How much further until we reach the mine?" Asked Markl as the two silently strolled through the beautiful forest. "We will reach it in about fifteen minutes." Rani replied, giggling at her impatient friend. The two continued to walk through the sea of tall, green trees, admiring the landscape around them. The trees began to thin out as they got closer and closer to their destination, until the tree line stopped altogether and they stood at the foot of a tall mountain. "This way," said Rani as she lead him to what looked like nothing but a boulder, "Durin'' mine is very valuable, so he had to hide the entrance, I don''t even know how the goblins found it." She said as she made her way around the boulder to a small entrance no bigger than four feet tall and three feet wide. They both entered the tunnel, Markl lead the way whilst Rani stayed close behind him, she didn''t mind at all! The tunnel was well kept, the magic stones placed in the mine supplied sufficient light and the tunnel was also spacious, well, for a Faery. The tunnels grey stone walls showed clear markings from when it was mined, it varied from small indentations to whole room sized spaces that were dug long ago. *ScuffleScuffle* "Did you hear that?" Markl whispered to Rani as he stopped walking to listen. "Yes, it came from just ahead." She whispered in reply, her voice quivered slightly. "Don''t be scared, I''ll protect you." He whispered to her, in the dim lighting of the mining tunnel Markl couldn''t see Rani'' face reddening. Slowly and silently, Markl made his way around the corner to see what caused the noise, up ahead were two goblins, small green creatures that had small pointed ears, rotting black teeth, a flat nose and no more than 30 hairs covering their otherwise bald heads. They held terrible weapons and wore leather armour that was nothing more than scraps. Markl approached them quietly, but not quietly enough, the goblins heard him coming and readied for a fight. ''Good,'' thought Markl, ''they aren''t smart enough to call for back up.'' Markl jumped forward and slashed his blade at the goblin to the left.
-16 HP
The goblin that was struck with his blade recoiled in pain as it yelped, the other goblin snarled at Markl as it thrust with its spear.
-8 HP
''Fuck you,'' thought Markl as he thrust his blade at the eye of the goblin that attacked him.
-17 HP
''That''s right,'' he thought as the goblin let out a piercing screech, rolling on the ground with his hands covering his oozing eye. The goblin he attacked first regained it''s senses and threw itself at Markl with quite a bit of force, knocking him to the ground.

''Piece of shit!'' he thought as he bashed the head of the goblin with the pommel of his sword, splattering its brains across the floor.
Fatal Blow!
Markl quickly got to his feet and turned to face the second goblin, his blade at the ready. The goblin tried to stab Markl with the point of his spear, but Markl stepped to the side and kicked the goblin with all of his force, throwing it back several feet.

The goblin lay on the tunnel floor, winded and dizzy, unable to so much as shriek. Markl drove his blade through the back of the creatures head, killing it instantly.
Fatal Blow!
Markl stood in the dim light, breathing heavily as he waited for his health to regenerate. ''I should be close to levelling up,'' thought Markl as he walked bak to Rani. "Are you ok, Markl?" Asked Rani in a small, scared voice. Markl chuckled, "no need to worry about me." He told her as he gave her a warm smile. He didn''t even bother taking the loot from the two goblins, there were just weapons and armour that were worse than his current apparel, he did take the money though.
+20 Copper
''Ten copper each, not bad.'' Markl and Rani continued to advance through the old tunnel and killing goblins, Markl had gotten into a good rhythm and killed them all with ease, levelling up twice! Rani wasn''t the fighting type, but Markl didn''t mind, in fact, he was just happy knowing that she was safe behind him. As they continued further into the tunnel, the twists, turns and forks that were carved out of the hard grey rock that surrounded them became more frequent. "Do you remember the way back?" Markl whispered. "Yes, just count on me when the time comes to go back." Rani whispered back. This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version.''That''s one problem taken care of,'' Markl thought as they rounded another bend in the maze like tunnel. Markl stopped and looked at Rani, "we don''t know how long we will be here and how many enemies are still left, lets rest." He said, Rani didn''t complain as she sat against the wall, breathing hard. "Here." Said Markl as he passed her a half a loaf of bread and his canteen, he then sat next to her, but when he leant against the wall, he fell right through!
Congratulations! You have discovered the "Hidden Cathedral" Rewards: +50 Fame! +200 EXP.
You Have Levelled Up!
''What the...'' Thought Markl, confused, he heard a scream from the other side. Markl sat back up and passed through the wall again, "what''s wrong?!" He asked, the anxiety clear in his tone. Rani stared at him wide eyed, "you''re body was...." tears began to form in her soft green eyes. Markl embraced the mortified Faery warmly and stroked her hair. "I''m fine, this wall is just an illusion, come see," he told her soothingly, drying her eyes Rani nodded and stood up from the cold stone floor. Markl and Rani walked through the invisible wall and were quite surprised as to what they found. Behind the false wall there was a perfectly square room the size of a cathedral, the walls and floor had no rough edges whatsoever, the only light that was given came from magic crystals that covered the roof of the cathedral. There were pews that formed five rows either side of the cathedral entrance, with a walkway that went between them, it stretched from the hidden cathedrals opening to an alter that had a book mounted on it. "What is this place?" Asked Rani. "It''s a church, or that''s what the message told me." Replied Markl, just as curious as Rani. The two slowly began to walk down the path to the alter, passing rows of empty pews built from pitch black wood, or maybe it had just been burnt. They reached the last row of pews, "status screen." Said Markl.

''Not too bad,'' thought Markl as he saw his stats, he''s still very weak, but five times stronger than before. "Wait here Rani, I''m going to look at the book on the alter." Rani nodded and sat on the pew to her right, waiting for Markl to finish his business. Markl approached the alter carefully, this seemed suspicious, very suspicious. He came closer and closer yet nothing happened, eventually he was standing at the alter, his hand outstretched, ready to take the book. Markl turned around to make sure Rani was safe before he continued, she was sitting on the pew patiently waiting for him, he could see the worry in her eyes, he chuckled lightly, ''worry wart,'' he thought as he gave her a warm smile. He turned back around to face the alter, the book was still sitting there, giving of a weird aura, a dark aura. Finally, he reached out his hand and touched the book slightly with his index finger, it felt similar to Leather, but far to smooth, and the books aura was pulsating, as if a heart beat inside. Darkness. Silence. Nothingness surrounded Markl, he tried to yell for Rani but couldn''t make a noise. Then, suddenly, a voice cut through the nothingness, it was in his head yet far away, as loud as a roar yet as quiet as a whisper. "Interesting, I never would have thought that I would be called by one of the Faery folk." Said the voice. Again, Markl tried to speak yet couldn''t utter a single word. ''Who is that?'' Thought Markl, bewildered. "The Devil, boy, that is who I am." Replied the voice, not in a sneer or any other tone you would expect to hear come from the Devil, he just stated a fact. ''The Devil? God damn it.'' Cursed Markl. "He already has." Was the amused response. Markl, even more bewildered than before, asked, ''ok then, Devil, how do I leave?'' The Devil laughed at the young Faeries words(thoughts?), "I''ve made the mightiest warriors feint from fright and a small Faery isn''t even phased." He let out another laugh. "I''ve been looking for somebody like you, someone that can''t be cowed into submission by even the Devil himself." Said the Devil, his voice full of interest. ''Why have you been searching for someone like me?'' Asked Markl, feeling slightly uneasy about how his conversation with the Devil was going. "The balance of power, boy, those that worship the gods of light are trying to tip the scales, completely eradicating the darkness." ''But then there will be only good.'' Replied Markl. "False, good can come from bad just as bad can come from good." Replied the devil in that same, fact stating tone. ''Why must you answer in riddles?'' Asked Markl, somewhat annoyed. The Devil laughed again, thoroughly amused that a mere Faery would dare to show blatant annoyance to the ruler of darkness. "Riddles? The answer I have given you is as straight forward as can be, you just refuse to understand." Said the Devil. ''I''m not refusing anything, I just don''t understand.'' "Murder is seen as evil when an innocent being is killed, but if a murderer is hung than a whole village cheers." ''I see...'' Replied Markl. "Do you, do you really, boy?" ''Yes, good and evil depend on circumstance, not the actions themselves.'' Was Markl'' reply. The Devil was stunned into silence, "You do understand..." He said, excitement making his voice tremble. "Boy, I have a proposal to make, would you be interested?" The Devil asked, there was something in his voice that was not expected, hope. ''It depends on what I gain and what I lose.'' Markl replied bluntly. The Devil burst into another fit of laughter, "yes, I like you boy. My proposal is this, but before I ask you, I must fill you in on a few things, first is the making of a demon, it may seem irrelevant, but listen to me boy. I first take a soul that has been twisted by life, I then ingrain a small amount of my power into the twisted soul, then I have it twisted some more until my power awakens inside of them and acts as a converter, the souls agony is converted to its demonic power. Now that you know how a demon is made, I can start telling you the important part. Devil Knights, they are demons born from different methods, but far superior, if I offer a large amount of my power to a soul that knows not of backing down or cowardice, and if they withstand the test then a Devil Knight is made." Markl didn''t know what to reply with, instead he thought over what he was told, and how it is relevant to him. ''So you want to make me into a Devils Knight?'' He asked the Devil. "Yes, that is what I want." ''I don''t want to be a knight though, they can''t use magic.'' He replied. The Devil laughed once more, "were you not listening, boy? A Devils Knight is a demon but far superior, magic is what you will excel at." Said the Devil. "What say you, boy?" Asked the Devil, trembling with anticipation. Chapter 3: For My Friend A.N: Hey everyone, here''s the new chapter, I hope you enjoy it, feedback is welcome. ***************************************************************************************************************** ''I need to think about this carefully,'' thought Markl, surrounded by the nothingness. "I understand, boy, but without you, this world will be thrown into chaos." Said the ominous voice that seemed to come from nowhere, yet everywhere, never louder then a whisper but more intense than a scream. ''How so?'' Asked Markl, slightly worried at what he was about to learn. "If the followers of the gods of light try to throw the world out of balance in their favour, then not only me, but all of the dark gods will come down and wage war against them, we won''t have a choice, the balance must be maintained. And the gods of light will not simply allow us to kill them, so they will join the war and the entire world will be a battle zone." Replied the Devil, with sadness in his voice. ''Fuck...'' Thought Markl, once again bewildered by the Devil, ''but you are the Devil, wouldn''t a war be fun for you?'' He asked. "War is fun for nobody, boy, there will be nothing but loss on all sides." The Devil replied with sincerity evident in his voice. Markl thought over what he was told, he thought about how the shift in the balance would cause unimaginable chaos and all of those that it would effect. Rani. ''I can''t let her be hurt,'' Markl thought to himself, ''not when I can do something to stop it.'' "So what say you now, boy, will you join me?" Asked the Devil hopefully. ''I will join you.'' Markl replied, his voice full of certainty. "I''m glad to hear it, boy," replied the Devil, the anxiety had cleared from his voice, "with the book bound in my flesh, my grimoire, you will be given the power you need, you must simply absorb it and withstand the test." ''I assume that the book you''re talking about is the book I touched that summoned me here?'' Asked Markl. "Yes boy, that is correct." Was the short reply. ''Two more questions, how do I absorb it and what is the test?'' "On the first page will be a hand print, simply place your hand over it and my energy will be funnelled into you, as well as the knowledge that my grimoire possesses, as for the test, you will see." Was the Devils reply. ''I have a feeling that this will not be pleasant,'' Markl thought to himself as he sighed inwardly. "When has a test ever been pleasant?" Asked the Devil. ''Shush you.'' Replied Markl. Again, the Devil laughed at the Faery, "you truly are entertaining, boy!" he cried in-between fits of laughter. The Devils laughter finally subsided after some time, "now that you know what you must do, you will be sent back." He said. As the Devils voice faded, he had returned to standing at the alter that stood at the end of the path that lead between the black pews to the cathedrals entrance. The familiar grey walls that were illuminated by the magic stones were a welcomed sight compared to the nothingness that he had just escaped. The smooth leather book was lying atop the alter, its aura pulsating beneath his finger tips. "Rani!" Shouted Markl as he turned to make sure that she was ok. Rani was still sitting on the black pew closest to the alter on the right hand side. "What is it?!" She asked, startled at Markl'' sudden outburst, her soft green eyes showing panic. "How long was I standing there?" He asked the Faery as soon as he was sure that everything was fine. "What do you mean? You only just reached the alter." She answered, worry tainting her beautiful voice. ''That''s odd,'' he thought to himself. "I''ll explain later," he told her, "there''s something I need to do first." He turned away from the confused Faery and faced the alter that held the grimoire, he stroked the leather that bound it, feeling a warm tingling sensation as he did so. He lifted the leather cover of the grimoire, revealing the hand print that the Devil had told him about. The hand print was perfectly centred on the page, it was a reddish brown and gave of a slight metallic scent, Markl assumed that it was the Devils blood. ''It has to be done, otherwise Rani will be.. NO! I will not let that happen.'' He thought, banishing any thought of failure to protect his friend. Markl breathed deeply to calm himself, preparing for whatever was to come. He lifted his right hand and placed it onto the ancient, bloody hand print. Markl was once again surrounded by darkness and silence, and surprisingly, a window that displayed his HP.

And then out of nowhere, before he could properly grasp the situation, his entire body burnt as if he were set alight, the pain barely tolerable.

Markl didn''t know what to do as he helplessly burnt and watched his HP chip away ever so slightly every second.

He started to panic as he realised the situation that he was in, ''I can do nothing as I burn,'' he thought in despair as his HP continued to slowly diminish, 5 HP per second.

The pain turned into agony as time went on, if he could he would cry out in pain until his throat was raw, but he didn''t have that privilege. Time continued moving forward as the heat that racked his nerves increased, inducing more pain than before, a feat Markl presumed impossible. After a few more seconds Markl checked his HP.

The pain and sadness welled up inside of Markl until he felt like he was about to burst, ''no, I refuse to fail, I can''t fail.'' He roared with all of his might, the mixed emotions erupted within the guttural scream, tearing through the silence that surrounded him, ''this power will be mine.'' Thought Markl as he roared louder and louder and louder, refusing to be defeated by something like a little bit of pain. Ting!
You have passed the test! You fought against the pain and darkness and refused to give in, not once did you think of backing down.
The darkness and silence dissipated, the burning agony gone, he found himself standing in front of the alter once more, the book had crumbled into nothing but dust beneath his hand. Markl looked at all of the messages he had received from completing the test.
New Title: Devils Knight Devils Knights are similar to demons but far superior; you have been granted power from the Devil himself, you are the Devils sole Devil Knight the others long dead, because of this, you have been made the Devils right hand man. ''That resistance to Darkness will come in handy. And Demonic Energy, really?'' Thought Markl as he closed the message.
Class Change! You have been granted the class Dark Designer, congratulations!
''I thought my class was going to be Devils Knight too, what''s going on?...'' He thought, puzzled at what he saw in front of him, ''the Devil better not have lied to me,'' thought Markl, not realising how ironic that thought was.
Due to the title that you have received, Mana has been replaced with Demonic Energy.

"Holy shit," said Markl as he stared at the skill descriptions, "these have the potential to be incredibly powerful." He said in excitement. "What are you talking about?" asked Rani, curios. "The skills that I got after I chose my class, they''re actually pretty strong." He said. "Tell me everything." So Markl explained everything, he told her about the Devil, about how the followers of the gods of light are planning to throw the world off balance and reduce it to a chaotic war zone and how he has been entrusted to stop them. Rani was shocked to say the least, but that''s to be expected when you''re told that the entire world is on the brink of becoming a war zone and their savior is only level 5! Markl decided to check out some of his new skills, he started with Dark Birth. ''Just start with something small,'' he thought to himself, pondering on what he should conjure up. And then he had it, the perfect test creature. Markl concentrated fiercely on the picture he had in his head, making sure he had every little detail just right. "Dark Birth." Markl'' shadow began swirling and solidifying as it began to take a form, first there were legs, then the torso and lastly the head. When the shadows had stopped forming, what stood in front of Markl was a small jet black pig with a human head and glowing red eyes that pierced your soul, it also had wavy black hair and a mouth full of sharp canines. "What do you think?" He asked Rani as he admired the work of his new found ability. "It''s oddly cute." She replied, giggling as she looked at the weird little creature.

''I''ll definitely need to play with this some more.'' He thought as he imagined all of the odd things that he could conjure. Markl was very satisfied with Dark Birth, ''let''s try Sentience Bestowal, it may cost a level, but I can get that back easily.'' He thought as he started looking for the best rock that he could find, he looked under each and every pew until he found the best one, it wasn''t too big, or too small, it didn''t weigh too much or too little, it was a good rock. It was flat, grey and smooth, and after the addition of a crude chalk smiley face, it was perfect! Markl made himself comfortable and held the smooth grey rock in the palm of his hand. "Sentience Bestowal."
You have used Sentience Bestowal, 1 level has been deducted as well as the stat points that came with it.

Markl winced as he read the pop up message, ''too cruel!'' He thought. Nothing happened. ''...... You have got to be kidding me,'' thought Markl as he stared at the rock, he drew back his arm to throw the ugly rock at the cathedrals wall, when suddenly a voice caught his attention. "Please! Master, wait!" The voice cried in panic. Markl brought his arm back and viewed the rock again, "was that you, Rocky?" He asked, hoping that it was indeed the rock. "That had better not be my name, Master." The rock said in disgust, his oddly drawn mouth moving along with his words. "Ok, if you don''t like Rocky, what about Balboa?" He asked it. "Well, it''s better than rocky." Said Balboa, not very impressed. Rani was overjoyed with Balboa, she thought he was adorable! Markl, to Balboa'' displeasure, placed Balboa in his backpack. "Lets go and finish the quest." Said Markl, standing up from the pew he was seated on. "Sounds like a good plan." Rani replied with a yawn. So Markl and Rani, accompanied by the 2 Pigbody Personface'' exited through the Hidden Cathedrals false wall. Markl and Rani walked through the dimly lit mining tunnel, admiring the cold, grey, stone walls. "Status Screen." Said Markl.

''Not too bad.'' He thought. After some time they rounded a corner and came face to face with two goblins, "go and get them Pigbodies!" Said Markl as the two goblins turned to face him. The two Pigbodies ran as fast as their stumpy little pig legs would take them, their medium length jet black hair fluttering behind them as they darted forth, the first Pigbody jumped at the goblin at the right and sunk his sharp canines into the throat of the unsuspecting creature, the goblin had been pinned to the ground by Pigbody and was unable to move as his health was sapped away, gurgling as his throat was crushed. The second Pigbody was nipping at the ankles of the goblin to the left, Markl ran forward and slashed with his sword.

Markl thrust his sword into the goblins throat to silence it.

"Time to head back." Said Markl as he closed the message. "It''s about time." Replied Rani as she poked out her tongue. Chapter 4: Devils Knight Delight Markl and Rani where taking a break from walking and sat in the shade of the tall green trees, the warm breeze blew by and the branches of the trees swayed with them, sending the shadows below into disarray. Markl was thinking about what creatures he could conjure with his fabulous new power, ''Alpaca snake?'' thought Markl, instantly falling in love with this artistic creation his mind had birthed. He thought about every little detail to make sure that it would turn out perfect, and when it was all thought out. "Dark Birth." His shadow began to take a form and solidify, first the four legs of an alpaca, from foot to foreleg, then came the torso, practically a hairy barrel with a tail, and then an 8 metered length of hairy coiled snake before reaching its thin head, which had lovely blood red eyes and sharp, powerful alpaca teeth. When all had ended, standing in front of him was a fearsome, furry, black, beast that would make most grown men cry.

''Soon, I will have an army,'' thought Markl with a malicious grin. Rani was patting the big black Alpaca Snake'' head with shining eyes, "it''s adorable too!" She said as she pet Alpaca Snake. ''That girl has a deranged sense of "adorable."'' Thought Markl. Markl rummaged through his backpack until he found it, he pulled out a furious Balboa, half of his chalk face wiped clean off! "Look at my face master, well, WHAT''S LEFT OF IT!" Balboa roared, absolutely distraught. ''I need to draw eyebrows on Balboa.'' Thought Markl, staring at his pet rock. He proceeded to take out the chalk and drew a face on balboa, it was a perfectly symmetrical smiley face with big bushy eyebrows just like John Howard''. But once Balboa got control of it, it had contorted to an irritated glare. Balboa is not very impressed. "I''m sorry Balboa, but I had nowhere else to put you." Markl explained. Balboa'' brand new eyebrows were drawn into a furrow, "well, I refuse to be put back in there," he said, hostility in his tone, "so find me a better place, master." Said Balboa, his mouth flopping around with his words. "Yes, I''ll do that." Replied Markl, Rani could be heard giggling in the background. Markl thought about Balboa'' situation for a while as he sat in the shade of the trees. After a few minutes, he thought of the perfect idea. He thought about every little detail for his new masterpiece, making sure that it was no less than perfect, and when he was ready. "Dark Birth." The shade of the tree in front of Markl began to swirl as it took a form, and solidify as it went, it began with two ostrich legs, one meter long and with 3 big sharp claws at the end of its feet, then the torso began to form and solidify, it was covered in jet black feathers with small wings, and from the torso, in the place where the neck should have been, stretched a feather covered arm and hand. It looked like something a child would have nightmares about, it was a monstrosity. Markl loved it. He placed Balboa in the hand of the odd looking creature.

''Fuck yeah, now I can control three!'' Thought Markl as he grinned at the message window. "What are you smiling at?" Asked Rani, now patting Balboa, which he did not enjoy. "My skill levelled up, now I can control three at a time." He replied with a smile. "That''s great! Now we can have Pigbody, Alpaca Snake And Balboa'' ostrich form at the same time!" The Faery exclaimed, her green eyes shining as she pictured all the cute animals that she would now get to play with. Balboa grimaced, ''an ostrich, really, master? Why?!'' thought the grumpy rock. "I am upside down, master, fix me." Said Balboa, glaring daggers. So Markl adjusted Balboa, Balboa calmed down somewhat now that he wasn''t upside down, but he was still very irritated. "Oh, thank you master." He said sarcastically. "You''re welcome." Markl replied with a grin. After a few hours of walking through the shade of the beautiful, tall green trees, Markl, Rani and Balboa arrived at the charming little Faery village in the trees. They made their way through the stalls of merchants selling their wares in the small clearing, and went to the old man Durin'' little shack. *KnockKnock* "Who is it?" Came a gruff voice. "It''s us, Durin!" Yelled Rani as the foot steps came closer. The door came open and standing in front of it was an old Faery with grey hair and beard. "Well, if it isn''t Rani and her favourite traveller!" The old Faery cried. Rani'' face reddened at his comment, she walked straight past the old Faery so that Markl wouldn''t see her red cheeks! With that taken care of, he went to the merchant that he had spoken to earlier when he had bought the Leather Jacket. "How much would I get for this small ruby?" Asked Markl. The merchant took the small ruby into his hand and looked at it thoroughly, "2 gold." He said. "Deal." Said Markl, delighted with the money that he had just received. Markl then bought better equipment, first up was a sword.

The armour set him back 1 whole gold, ''I blame the economy.'' Thought Markl, grimacing. After he had bought the armour, he had Rani lead him to the tailors shop and had his armour dyed black, I know it sounds lame, but it was actually awesome, well, everything besides the fact that it cost him 20 silvers. "Is there maybe a library in the village, too?" Markl asked hopefully. "No, there isn''t any library in this small town," Replied Rani, "why do you need the library?" "I need to read up on Latin spells," He replied, "I think it might be time I left, I''ve gotten used to the controls so I don''t need to stay here any longer." Rani was shocked at what Markl had just said, and then she was saddened. "Do you have to go?" She asked in a small voice, barely audible. "There''s nothing left for me here." He explained. "What about me?" Asked Rani as she raised her head to look at Markl, tears forming in her eyes, her usually happy face scrunched up in sadness. Markl was surprised at her reaction, he had never seen her like this before. "I was hoping that you would like to come with me." He replied, smiling warmly at the saddened young Faery girl. Rani'' green eyes widened at his words, her smile going from ear to ear on her pretty, young face. "Can I really?!" She cried in excitement. Markl laughed, "it wouldn''t be any fun alone." He replied. "Add Rani to party."
Would you like to join Markl'' party? y/n
"Yes!" "There''s a great big Library in ''Black Pool,'' it''s the biggest library that I''ve ever seen!" Said Rani as she followed Markl through the beautiful, tall trees, their green leaves rustling whenever the warm breeze blew, scattering the shadows about, making them dance. "That sounds like a good start, which way is it to Black Pool?" Markl asked. "If we follow the road that''s up ahead and go left, we will pass through two or three villages before we reach Black Pool." Rani replied, excited to see the great library again. So Markl and Rani walked through the forest until they came across the dirt road, Markl wasn''t very fond of the idea of walking, so he conjured 2 Alpaca Snake'' one for both he and Rani, they sat on the backs of the Alpaca Snake'' and started to make their way to Black Pool. It had been a few hours since they departed, Rani had gotten off of Alpaca Snake and was flying so that Markl could play around with Dark Birth, boy did he have a lot of ideas! ''So far I''ve only made weird concoctions, how about I try and make something with strong properties that compliment each other,'' he thought, trying to find a suitable combination to try it with. ''The black mamba has the fastest striking speed of all snakes, if I make it the size of a fully grown anaconda and, if I say, put a swordfish'' head on it....'' Markl thought every little detail through, making sure that everything had been thoroughly thought out, his newest work of art can be nothing less than perfection. "Dark Birth." The shadows made by the late afternoon sun began to swirl around, taking form and solidifying, first came a large coiled body at about 9 feet long and 1 foot thick with jet black scales like that of the black mamba, and then on the end of the great snakes body was a black swordfish'' head with his blade adding another 6 feet to the great black monster, it''s fish eyes were glowing read, it''s blade razor sharp, jet black scales exactly like that of the body.
You have created a new creature, would you like to remember it for a faster conjuration next time?
"Yes."
Please set a name.
"Mamba." Said Markl.
Are You Sure? y/n
"Yes."
Mamba has been remembered.
"Strike that tree." Markl commanded Mamba as he pointed at a thick tree on the side of the dirt road, Mamba did as it was ordered and struck so fast that it could be compared to a bullet, with the innate striking speed of the Black Mamba, the muscle build of an Anaconda and the sharp blade of the Swordfish, it was a terrifying creature that was terrifyingly effective, the tree that had been struck by Mamba had a massive gash in the centre of its trunk splinter away in hundreds of little shards of wood. "Wow..." Said both Markl and Rani in unison as Mamba dislodged its blade nose from the tree and slithered back to its master.

"This is great." Said Markl, grinning at his skills. "Yes, Mamba is so strong and adorable!" Cried Rani, her eyes shining. "Yes, Mamba is great too, but I was talking about my skill mastery going up quite a lot." "That means you will be much stronger in no time!" And so their relaxed chatter continued on as they walked down the dirt road, enjoying the relaxing sounds of the forest, the rustling of the leaves, the birds chirping, it truly was a serene atmosphere. After an hour, the tree line began to thin out and they were met by a beautiful meadow, covered by beautiful sunflowers, Rani loved this meadow, it was her favourite place, and it looked breathtaking in the fading light of day. "We will camp here for the night, it''s not too far off from being completely dark." Said Markl. "That''s ok with me, I was tired anyway." Rani replied with a little giggle. So Markl set the bedrolls on the ground, he then found a comfortable piece of flat land and dug a pit to start a fire, he dug the earth away from the hole on all sides so as to make a rim for the fire place, he then went and collected wood, he grabbed large pieces, small pieces and dried leaves before returning, after another two trips there was enough firewood for the night. He broke the sticks to suitable lengths, placed a bed of kindling in the pit and placed wood around it in a teepee fashion, leaving the side open, he then rolled dry moss and bark strips into a ball and proceeded to use his flint and steel, he struck the flint a few times before an ember settled on the small kindling ball, once the embers landed, Markl picked it up and held it lightly in his hands whilst blowing, forcing the ember to smoulder and flare. He placed the flaming ball in the centre of the teepee and blew some more, the fire was crackling in no time. Markl, Rani and Balboa were sitting around the fire, Markl had cooked a rabbit stew with some rabbits that he had Pigbodies hunt down, truly terrific creatures. "This stew is delicious," Said Rani, shovelling in mouthfuls that make her petite body seem deceitful, "what did you put in it?" She asked. "I made a brown roux and then added carrots, onion, some edible herbs I found and fresh rabbit meat, let it brown slightly and then added water." "That sounded hard." Said Rani, still eating with unmatched vigour. Balboa watched her eat, ''disgusting.'' He thought, his chalk facial features not even trying to hide the emotion. The talking and laughter soon came to an end as it was time to go to sleep, the fire had died down considerably as Markl and Rani crawled into their bedrolls, yawning as they went, they soon were sleeping soundly, they needed to rest for the day ahead. Chapter 5.1: Lion In Wait A.N: Hey guys, hope you enjoy, feedback is welcome, this is part 1, part 2 will be here soon too, probably. ************************************************************* A world of white, as far as the eye could see. Not a single sound that the ears can hear, or the mortal voice speak, a silent, reassuring world of white. And in this world of white, just out of reach of the eyes in all directions, lay a fully grown lion, his fur the colour of the purest gold, his mane that of the finest platinum and eyes as blue as the most valuable sapphires. He lay in his world of white, caring little for it, in front of him was the mangled corpse of a young lamb, resting in a pool of its own crimson blood, its warm blood still trickling, its neck shredded from the mighty lions jaws, and in its blood, the white reflection on its surface was dancing, telling a story, a story about two young Faery folk, a deal with the Devil and a quest for peace. ''It seems the Devil got a new toy,'' thought the lion, eyeing the lambs blood with minute interest, ''I want to crush it with my own hands.'' The lion grew bored with the tale and began to lap up the lambs blood, sending ripples through the light shimmering on the surface, sending the dance into disarray with his tongue of ruby red. *** The fire had long died out, Markl had just finished packing up his bedroll and placing the dirt back in the fire pit when Rani awoke. "Morning." She said as she let out a yawn and rubbed her eyes with the backs of her hands, her long green hair having a mild case of bed head, random hairs sticking out in all directions. "Morning to you too, sleeping beauty." Replied Markl, trying hard to conceal his grin, Rani blushed, her face getting redder by the second. "Hmph!" She said as she faced any direction that Markl wasn''t in, hiding her cheeks! Markl chuckled at the young lady as she wallowed in embarrassment. "We will leave in an hour or two when you wake up properly." Said Markl as he looked around the meadow covered in beautiful sunflowers, looking breathtaking in the mornings sun. "Fine." Replied Rani, her cheeks still red. Markl chuckled again as he walked around the meadow to look at the cool things that he could find. He had decided to start training his skills whenever he could, if he hopes to stand a chance against the followers of the gods of light, he needs to train as much as he can. So Markl began by looking at flowers and bushes, noticing the different petals, stems and leaves as well as the berries that the bushes grew. "Detail Perception."
Sunflower, a flower that is yellow like the sun.
''Oh, how helpful..'' He thought sarcastically as he closed the message window. ''Hopefully it will be more helpful as it levels up.'' So he continued using Detail Perception on all of the things he could find. But then something unexpected happened, as Markl was observing a thorny bush, it was rather large and hard dark green branches that were riddled with white thorns, the trees leaves swayed with the breeze and a glint from the morning sun caught his eye. ''What was that?'' He thought intrigued, he started to part the bushes branches, the leather jacket protecting his arms and the leather gloves protecting his hands, he very rarely felt the sharp pain of a thorn stabbing him as he rummaged through the undergrowth in search of the item that piqued his interest. After a few minutes and exactly fifteen thorns, he had managed to get a hold of what he was looking for, after he had escaped the mighty thorn bush, and sat down in the nice grass he had a better chance of looking at it.

''Interesting, but what quest is it a part of?'' Markl thought to himself, more fascinated than before. "Detail Perception."
Failed.
"Detail Perception."
Failed.
"Detail Perception."
Failed.
"Fuck." Said Markl as he yet again failed to discover what the pendant truly was, ''I''ll just have to look once I''ve levelled up my skill some more.'' He thought, still relatively angry. Markl placed the golden pendants chain around his neck as he stood from the grassy ground, and even though he couldn''t tell what secrets it hid, he couldn''t help but wonder just a little. "Are you ready?" Asked Markl as he approached Rani. "Yes, let''s go!" She cried enthusiastically, he green eyes shining as she remembered how much fun the Black Pool library was. "What about you, Balboa?" The black feather covered hand that was holding Balboa moved so that Balboa was facing them, his chalk face scrunched up into that familiar frown. "Yes master, let us depart." He replied, his body clawing at the ground like a chicken searching for seed. The morning sun shone over the meadow, spreading its warmth, the cool morning breeze blew and sent Rani'' long green hair and blue dress fluttering about, as well as pushing the sunflowers back and forth with it. Markl conjured two Alpaca Snake'' and allowed Rani to sit on one as well as taking one for himself, shortly after mounting, the two were on their way along with Balboa. Rani spent her time patting Alpaca Snake and Balboa'' body, much to Balboa'' dismay, where as Markl was training his Detail Perception on everything that he saw on the side of the road, even if it were just a twig, he didn''t care, he just kept going non-stop. ''I hope that I can level this up fast,'' he thought, imagining the pendant that he still knew nothing about, ''if not, I''ll die of curiosity.'' Markl continued with his training whilst Rani continued to pat Balboa'' body, before too long, they had arrived at the first town on their way to Black Pool. Markl had already relieved the two Alpaca snakes of their service before they had reached the tree line, and unfortunately Balboa'' body too, ''No need to draw attention,'' he thought. Rani and Markl entered the beautiful village, the buildings were all beautifully crafted out out of heavy looking smooth white stone with thatched roofing that was positioned into honeycombing alleyways, the only place that was open was the village square, a square bustling with players, NPC''s and merchants trying to sell their wares. "Fresh fruit for sale!" "Come to me for all of your weaponry and armouring needs!" "How much for a new sword?" "Depends what you''re buying, kiddo." Everywhere that you look there was someone trading for something, amongst the voices were the sounds of leather boots thudding on the stone ground as people ran from one merchant to another. "What is this town called?" Markl asked Rani as he stood admiring the lively square. "This is Ballymena, a small trading town on the way to Black Pool." She replied, giggling at Markl. "It''s nice," Markl replied, "let''s go get supplies for our journey, we need fresh food." So Markl and Rani walked through the square, selling rabbit pelts and buying fresh vegetables and meat, Markl didn''t have any money left once he had finished shopping, the empty feeling of his coin purse left him saddened, Rani giggled at his reaction, ''he truly is entertaining,'' she thought as she watched the droopy shouldered Faery. Once all of the shopping was complete, there was no reason to stay in Ballymena, so Markl and Rani headed out of the front gate that lead to a large mountain range, a landscape of contrasting greys as the mountains stabbed the sky, the blue was hidden by dark grey clouds, the suns warmth hidden behind the stone sky. Markl shivered just thinking about it, then he thought about how Rani must be feeling, all she had was a blue dress! Markl took off his leather jacket and handed it to her, his cheeks red. "Take it." He said as he turned his head whilst stretching his arm out to her, offering the jacket. Rani was surprised, her face also began to redden as she slowly extended her arm, took the leather jacket and put it on. ".... Thank you." She said in a small voice, tears of happiness welling up in her soft green eyes. Markl walked on ahead, after a few seconds, Rani spread her wings and flew to his side. The two had tried to traverse the mountainous terrain but it proved too rough, there were too many loose rocks to walk safely, even for his conjured creations, so Markl had to do what he had feared. "Rani, we won''t be able to walk, we''ll have to fly." He told her, spreading his four long, thin translucent dragonfly wings. "Good thing there aren''t any trees here." Replied Rani with a giggle. Markl went red at her words, ''I may never live that down.'' He thought as he turned his head away from the grinning young lady. Markl and Rani had been flying for over an hour, the cold grey mountains were still towering on all sides, the cold grey clouds still spread thick on the sky. "Let''s take a break," said Markl, the area where the wings connected to his back aching, ''so many new muscles put to work.'' he thought. "No problem." Replied Rani, smiling at the exhausted Faery. "To land, just think about flying towards the ground and when you get close, just think about slowing down and landing on your feet." "That sounds rather easy actually." Replied Markl, happy that the game mechanic wasn''t overly difficult. He imagined himself descending towards the stone riddled ground below, he started to descend instantly, the wind rushed by his face making his brown hair flutter, and then as he closed the distance with the grey rock below, he imagined landing softly on his feet, and much to Markl'' surprise, he did! "I actually landed!" He cried in victory as his soft leather boots landed with a slight thud. Rani landed beside him, her bare feet making no sound, she giggled at the excited Faery. "Congratulations." She said with a grin. Markl and Rani were sitting on the cold stone as they took a break from all of the strenuous flying, Markl watched Rani as she shivered in the cold, although a greatly appreciated gesture, his leather jacket must not have been very warm. "In the next town, I''m going to buy you some clothes." Said Markl as he conjured two Pigbodies, commanding them to hunt as much game as they can and return. Rani was greatly surprised for the second time today, "that''s not necessary." She replied with a smile, after regaining her composure of course. "You have nothing more than a blue dress made for warm climates, I should have thought of this sooner, you don''t even have shoes to protect your feet." Said Markl as he stared at her dirt stained bare feet, and then finally, he took off his own boots and gave them to her too. "I can handle the cold, you take these, it might stop the shivering a little." He told her as he placed his boots in front of her. Rani smiled and stood up from where she was sitting, the fits of shivering gone, this simple gesture more than enough to warm her whole, she walked over to Markl, her bare feet silent on the cold grey stone, and then she wrapped her arms around him and held him tightly. "Thank you." She said before she took her arms away, returning to her sitting spot where she put on Markl'' boots. Markl Didn''t know how to respond, so he didn''t, he surveyed the area whilst blushing instead. And it''s a good thing he did, because if he hadn''t been looking, he wouldn''t have noticed the rock golem peaking it''s head around the corner of a large boulder twenty feet away, it''s cold grey face and hollow, emotionless, black eye holes almost blending in with the surrounding rock scape completely, if it weren''t for the fact that it had moved, he wouldn''t have known at all. Markl relieved Pigbodies of their service for the time being, he needed all the man power that he could get. "Rani, fly high into the air and if I die, go back to Ballymena, I''ll meet you there." He shouted as he equipped his sword and summoned three Mamba''. "Please don''t die!" Rani cried in a scream that sent shivers up his spine. "I said IF I die," shouted Markl, "I sure as hell don''t plan on it." And once Rani had been convinced that he would be fine and was high in the air, out of danger, the battle began. "Attack!" Roared Markl, holding his black blade high, the three Mamba'' shot like bullets from the barrel of a gun and made contact soon after, small shards of cold, grey rock flew in all directions, but the rock golem didn''t even seem to notice.
-6 HP
''Oh dear god...'' Thought Markl as he realised that he was probably going to experience death for the first time here. The golem looked down at it''s torso, that was missing about three handfuls of stone in the centre of it''s body where the Mamba'' had targeted their coordinate strike and then looked back at Markl, uncomprehending, like a young child that had its hand slapped for the crime of his sibling. If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it.And at that moment, everything went bad. The rock golem glared at Markl, it''s hollow and empty eyes sizing him up from head to toe, all four and a half feet of him. The rock golem took a step forward, getting ready to attack the small Faery, but as he stepped forward the rock golems foot landed on Mamba'' tail, Mamba hissed at the golem and started making its way up the golems leg, and once the full length of its slender black body was wrapped around the rock giants leg it began to constrict, thanks to Mamba'' Anaconda muscle build, it was able to put in a a devastating amount of crushing force into its constriction. The other two Mamba'' took the lead of the first and started to slither up the golems body, the second Mamba began to crush its right arm, and the third Mamba attempted to enter the golems left eye as it constricted its neck.
-70 HP
By now, the rock golem had, had enough. It slammed its right arm into its face and crushed the head of Mamba three and divided Mamba two, into two, how ironic, and then it slammed its left hand into it''s right leg, killing Mamba one. Reverting its gaze back to Markl it glared, only to realize that Markl was no longer there. Markl was sitting behind a large rock that he had found, he came here as soon as he saw the first two Mamba'' get eliminated. ''Come on, you didn''t spend your childhood playing Pokemon for nothing, it''s a rock golem, what beats rock?!'' He thought frantically as he searched his memory. ''Was it grass? God dammit!'' He thought angrily, ''I''ll just try it.'' He started to imagine every little detail about his newest work of art, making sure that everything was thought through thoroughly. "Dark Birth." Markl'' shadow began to come alive as it slowly took a form, four strong, well muscled legs, a large barrel body with a tail, and last, but definitely not least, the head of a hammerhead shark. In the end, what stood in front of Markl were three large bull with a hammerhead sharks head, covered in a jet black bone plate that added unmatched hardness to its head and instead of having fur it was growing jet black leaves and thorns. "Attack!" Markl roared once more, and on his command the three Hammerhead Bulls were thrown into action, they weren''t nearly as fast as the Mamba'', but they were fast enough, they ran full pelt, making the ground vibrate violently as they slammed down their iron hooves and kicked up stones. Before the rock golem even had time to react, the Hammerhead Bulls were a mere ten feet away, and in a matter of seconds. *SLAM!!!* The three Hammerhead Bulls hit their target with a devastating blow.
-110 HP
Right after the Hammerhead Bulls landed their hit, Markl shot through the dust that had been thrown with the attack and swung with all his might at the golems head, but the golem had already began to swing its right arm in a wide arc to the left.
-37 HP
The golem slammed its fist into Markl'' left side, sending him flying. "Markl!" Rani cried in fear. The golem roared with victory, an ear splitting cry that even the deaf would cringe at in disgust, so Markl decided to roar back, he stood from where he had been thrown and wiped the blood from his forehead. "Devils Cry." Markl cried with all of his might, a low, yet high guttural scream that would freeze the blood of even a fire giant, he poured in every ounce of his willpower and continued to scream the same blood chilling scream, the golem, now frozen in fear was ready for the next phase. "Attack!" Roared Markl in that same guttural scream, and soon after, the three Hammerhead Bulls could be heard sprinting at full speed, closing in on the golem. And then the second slam could be heard. *SLAMCRACK!!!*
-110 HP
The sounds of cracking stone could be heard as the golem crumbled to dust on the cold grey stone, Markl was panting hard when Rani came down to help him. "Are you ok?" She asked, clearly distressed. Markl chuckled and regretted it as he coughed blood, "I''m fine, I just need to walk it off," he said with a grin, "no need to worry over me." Rani didn''t believe Markl one bit, so she forced him to take a rest. So Markl and Rani sat on the cold stone once more, resting after the battle, Markl made sure that the system remembered Hammerhead Bull and looked at the message windows.

"Much better." Said Markl with a grin. "What is?" Asked Rani, curious to as why he was so happy all of a sudden. "I''m getting stronger." He replied, smiling warmly. "So you say." Said Rani, poking out her tongue and letting out her trademark giggle. This is just an update, not a chapter. I am on a temporary hiatus, I''ve been thinking a lot recently about how I plan to write from now on, because I''m writing a Sci-Fi, murder mystery, VR, tragedy, thriller, action with dark themes, there will be many things that I will have to be able to do in order to fully capture the range of emotions, mystery, experiences and details. This tale has been unlawfully lifted without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. So I will be putting both Devils Knight and Trailing Joker on hiatus for the time being, for a, well, training camp I suppose.
