《When Desires aren't Realised》 Chapter 1 - It happened, sorta? Things which are known as parallel universes, being summoned into different worlds and when stretching, even worlds which are like games, are thoughts which are constantly travelling around inside peoples heads. Yes, these are those things which are considered fantasies, and those trying to escape their own reality are living them out. They have presumptions of what these worlds would be like. However, even with this preconceived notions, what it remains as, is a fantasy. When thrust into such a situation they would not be prepared for it. Remember, these things are just fantasy. With that line of thought in mind, I''m aware that I am in ''reality'' and not ''fantasy''. Such an event having happened to me, would be crazy to think of as it is possible. If it turns out that its true, I''d be ecstatic though. As my reality consists of living on the run, I might finally give up on such a life. Being a teenager on the run would probably have some people questioning my sanity. After all, there''s support from the government, family and all that jazz. Don''t talk to me about that. If I was able to, don''t you think I would? It may seem like my past was disheartening, but it wasn''t really all so bad. I had issues with an abusive father, and a distant mother. Originally, the situation wasn''t horrid, but it wasn''t what people would call a ''healthy family relationship''. During the early years, both my father and mother were just negligent. They didn''t consider my well-being at all, only that I was a hindrance to their lives. They did hire a babysitter for a while, but then when I was old enough to do things by myself, they said it was too expensive and stopped. The ignoring wasn''t so bad, although they wouldn''t let me go on school excursions. It was around 2 years ago, when I was 15, that my father started taking out his anger on me. I was just entering into the house when he slammed a fist into my stomach. It hurt like hell. I tried to fight back with a punch, but I did not succeed. I noticed my mother just reading a book, even though their was obviously something going on. Then my father clasped his hands around my throat, and choked me until I fainted. The next day, I woke up on the floor, and my parents were pretending like nothing had even happened. For the next year and a half I tried to train myself in order to take the hits. More specifically, so I wouldn¡¯t feel a lot of pain and just pretend like my father hurt me. There were a few nights when he didn¡¯t do anything, but mostly, I spent my time getting my arse beat. What was weird though, was the fact that nobody ever commented. I thought perhaps that they didn¡¯t notice. When I went to tell somebody they wouldn¡¯t believe me, though I think that there was something more to it than that. That endeavour got me an extremely bad thrashing from my father. That¡¯s what caused me to run away, and I never stopped running. Six more months passed since then and I¡¯ve awoken in a strange place. I am now going to comment over the ridiculous things that I think of. Firstly. To the bottom right of my eye, what is visible is a status screen. It¡¯s not like it affects my vision, but what the hell is it doing there? Level 1 (Stranger) HP: 100/100 MP: 100/100 Stamina: 1,000,000/1,000,000 Second place: WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THAT STAMINA? I mean - well yeah, I have more stamina than the average person but that¡¯s just an extremely level of exaggeration. In a word, it¡¯s ridiculous. Coming third in my retorts, is the fact that instead of being in some sort of house, or motel, such as where I went to sleep, I¡¯ve opened my eyes, I¡¯m in a bloody forest! Why, of all places, was it a forest? This was like a fantasy coming true. Perhaps a summoning by a princess asking for the world to be saved. Is that just too much to ask? Being welcomed by a princess in a large castle? No? Thanks for ruining my expectations of going to a different world. Now, GIVE ME BACK MY DREAMS! Ahhh¡­ That made me feel much better. Looking backwards, I was quick to assume this was a different world, wasn¡¯t I? Might it have been more reasonable to assume that I¡¯d been sleepwalking, or even kidnapped and abandoned in a forest? Well, maybe not, but still. ¡°...¡± That could quite possibly be it. There is a strange creature staring at me. while I¡¯ve been retorting to everything which is irritating me. It wouldn¡¯t be wrong to say it looked like a rabbit, but the fact it had a beak causes me to say without a doubt, it¡¯s not an animal I¡¯ve seen before. Back on Earth, I don¡¯t think there is such a creature in existence - although, it might sell, as it¡¯s kind of cute. Did you know this story is from Royal Road? Read the official version for free and support the author. It ran away? That makes me sad, but I guess the creature did help me determine this was definitely not a normal place. Thus, I¡¯m going to assume that this is a completely different world until someone tells me otherwise. Maybe I can have some fun now! Why do I feel like I¡¯m pitiable rather than just free from constraints of society? There¡¯s surely more to this status thing, right? The sight of it in my field of view is quite peculiar, but it feels like I can find out more¡­ Maybe there¡¯s a stat for attack and defense?! Let¡¯s just imagine them appearing and see what happens. ~POP~ [Attack: 9-9] [Defense:6] [Speed:5] [Agility:5] [Magic: Undiscovered] Are you kidding me? Don¡¯t I just appear as really weak? My stamina might be ridiculously high, but my other stats are all below double digits! That¡¯s not accounting for HP and MP, but still.. I¡¯ll just be happy with high stamina then. Think positive, Masaru! Alright, next up is skills. It feels sort of like an RPG so I¡¯m hoping that it¡¯ll work the same. Skills {50p} Language Comprehension: {0} Hero¡¯s Whim: {} Creation: {} Destruction: {} UNIQUE: HABITAT {1} Uhhh¡­. Habitat? What the hell sort of skill is that? It sounds either completely useless, or extremely bad for me. I wonder if the reason I was summoned here was to be a laughing stock¡­ Was I even summoned here? I was hoping I was summoned so I¡¯d be a hero! If not¡¯s not like that, then my dreams are ruined again¡­ Damn it. Calm down. Let¡¯s just think calmy. About things that are important right now - specifically - the skills. First of all is Language Comprehension. It¡¯s obvious there must be people in this world. It would be extremely unlikely for them to speak English. This means the skill will prove invaluable. Language Comprehension {0} --> Language Comprehension {10} [You have learned: Language Comprehension] [You have unlocked: Language Translation] The messages appear in my field of view¡­ Although they could be considered irritating, they don¡¯t take up a lot of space and they only stay for a few seconds. It¡¯s probably possible to hide the level and HP/MP stats as well, but I don¡¯t wish to do that. It¡¯s easier for my like this. I don¡¯t understand why I would need ¡®Language Translation¡¯ when I have ¡®Language Comprehension¡¯, but there¡¯s probably a difference between the two. For now though, it does not seem necessary. Hero¡¯s Whim {0} --> Hero¡¯s Whim {10} [You have learned: Hero¡¯s Whim] [You have unlocked: Hero¡¯s Blade] [You have unlocked: Hero¡¯s Wish] [You have unlocked: Knight In Shining Armour] This world is just toying with me heart, isn¡¯t it! I don¡¯t get it anymore. I¡¯ve managed to feel both incredibly weak, and quite important, both within a short time of getting here. The skills are about Heros. I suppose it won¡¯t help until I know what they do, though. ¡°!!!¡± Thinking about it brought up a new screen. It appears to list the skills I¡¯ve learned, and information relating to them. Helpful. Language Comprehension: Allows you to converse with those who speak other languages. More specifically, it will allow you to learn a language which you hear instantaneously. Aww hell, that¡¯s awesome! I¡¯ve attempted to learn another language before. The amount of time it took made me give up. Hero¡¯s Whim: Unlocks the Hero¡¯s series skills. I¡¯m not sure why I bothered looking. Well that¡¯s it for skills! I may as well check the last thing I wanted to know. It¡¯s been nagging at me, but my status calls me a ¡°Level 1 Strange¡±. I¡¯m taking a guess, but it¡¯s probably my current job. Which is weird, as it doesn¡¯t really have anything to do with work¡­ Maybe I get money for being unique?! Hopefully I can take on other jobs, which are more useful. The thing that¡¯s really bugging me though, is if there¡¯s titles? It might be that I have a cool one! The reason I haven¡¯t checked is I¡¯m scared. What if it says something such as ¡®Weak Person¡¯. There are probably titles like that! ¡°... To hell with it.¡± Muttering out loud, I call up my titles by thinking about them. [Titles: World Jumper | Stamina King] God damn it, what else was I expecting? Chapter 2 - Coming to Terms [Titles: World Jumper | Stamina King ] So.. Is my title ¡®Stamina King¡¯ because I have a lot of stamina, or is it that my stamina is high because of my title? Do titles have any sort of effect on people is the question I¡¯m asking. Perhaps I can call up more information to find out. (World Jumper: Those with this title are not originally from this world. They may experience abnormal growth compared to others. ) That¡¯s understandable. Different rules for those from different places. Perhaps due to differences in the composition of the environment? Who am I kidding, the world¡¯s got magic in it, of course things are going to be different. Wait! What if abnormal growth means bad growth, not good growth? Does it matter? (Stamina King: By reaching over 500,000 stamina, you have unlocked this title. You have reduced stamina costs on all abilities that require it. ) So¡­ I guess that the titles grant augmentations based on what it¡¯s called? Wouldn¡¯t that mean those who gain a lot of fame become extremely powerful, as they may gain titles from that fame? That¡¯s actually¡­ I need to find people. I might be able to get rid of my thoughts of being a lame secondary character with this! Okay, now that I¡¯ve confirmed my stats, what should I do? I was expecting that someone may come and inform me what¡¯s going on, but all that seems to have happened is¡­ Well, nothing. Is this world seriously so uninteresting? Wait, it may just be me. Perhaps I¡¯m so uninteresting that nobody cares. That may not be right. After all, I appeared only a little while ago. I think the problem here is, I wasn¡¯t summoned and ended up here in a different way. That basically means that I¡¯ve never been heard of. What I should do then, is locate others? Brilliant. I begin walking in a straight line. Wasn¡¯t there a story of a guy once, who travelled across the world in a straight line to prove a point, and ended up discovering a new civilization? There was something like that right? Oh well, the point is that I¡¯ll probably discover people if I just keep my direction, thus not getting lost. I sound stupid. Well, at least I think so. Is there any point in denying it at this point? To be honest, I¡¯m quite surprised. As I¡¯ve been walking, I¡¯ve seen all sorts of exotic animals yet none of them seem to attack me. I¡¯d been thinking some of them may be monsters which would attack people. That thought was completely wrong though. Isn¡¯t that good? However if I¡¯m unable to gain stats by killing monsters, how am I meant to go about it? Don¡¯t tell me I need to read books¡­ That doesn¡¯t sound enjoyable. I mean, reading books is a good pastime, but I would hate to have to do it to gain stats. It would be okay if you could gain it through that and other means, but only through reading books? Yeah, right. [Title gained: The One Who Reads For Pleasure.] ... That. Is. Bullshit. I was only thinking of how books are not a very fun way to level up stats, but I gained a title through it? If there are gods in this world, screw you! Life isn''t a joke! Well, maybe some lives are, but my life isn''t a joke! If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. When reading fiction novels, certain stats may level up when this title is owned.) Well, I guess I was complaining for nothing. This one was actually sort of useful. If only I knew what stat would level up. Perhaps it depends on what sort of fiction it is? That sounds about right, but as I don''t have any books on me, it''s kind of useless. I need to find some sort of civilization soon! Currently, walking in the straight path I started on, I haven''t come across much. Just more exotic animals and a plants. It''s quite a pleas- Rat L1: (Atk: 5-7, Def: 5,Agl: 3, Magic: 0) There''s currenty a rat attacking my foot which I didn''t notice coming up to me. It appears I can''t see skills or things like HP and MP but I can see the other stuff. It''s sad, but I guess I''ll make do. -2 ... -7 ... -2 ... I should probably do something as I''m losing HP. It looks like even if a creatures attack is less then my defense, it''ll still do some damage. HP: 89/100 MP: 100/100 Stamina: 0,999,990/1,000,000 That stamina is way to overpowered. I''m fairly sure I''ve been walking for a few hours. Actually, given that, isn''t it weird that I only just started to get attacked by creatures? Have I been going in the wrong direction??? -2 ... -2 ... I kick the rat with as much strength as I can muster. -9 ... [Rat has been slain. +1xp.] That rat was extremely weak. Weaker than me! Haha! Looking over at where the rat landed, it seems it''s not like a video-game. It''s like reality - there''s a corpse of a rat. However, it may be dangerous to leave things like this around so I take to skinning it and wonder where to store the meat and bones. [Inventory: 0/50 spaces filled.] Oh, it''s that simple huh? A dimensional inventory or something like that? Oh, this world is starting to seem more fun. Maybe the start was just different for some reason? A glitch! Yes, let''s call it that. Having finished with the rat, I manage to place the pieces in the inventory. [Inventory: 4/50 spaced filled] [Current Inventory: Rat Whiskers, Rat Skin, Rat Meat, Rat Claws] It appears that things such as ''Rat Claws'' and ''Rat Whiskers'' stack up into one space but perhaps if they''re from a different rat, they won''t stack. Thinking that, I begin to stand up and- "By the order of Rozia, the King Of Thieves, hand over all your belongings." Shit. I wasn''t paying attention. Chapter 3 - Whats with these people? Given the trashy circumstance I found myself in, you¡¯d think I¡¯d have thought of an appropriate measure to get out of it. Well guess what? I found the stupidest thing to say. ¡°Yeah, well I¡¯m a King as well so you can go and suck on a rats tail you peasants.¡± ¡­ Please don¡¯t take me seriously. I don¡¯t know why I said it, okay? I thought it¡¯d be funny. But it¡¯s better just to go with it than to try and explain myself. While thinking these things, their faces are stone still. Until- ¡°AH...AHAHAHAHAHAHA. THAT. WAS. BRILLIANT.¡± ¡°Couldn¡¯t have done it better myself. Best reaction so far.¡± ¡°Is this my new big bro~?¡± That last one sounded off¡­ Oh, there¡¯s a little girl among the bandits who were about to rob me. Is this really such a world where that¡¯s possible? Argh, to hell with it. ¡°Thanks, I think?¡± The biggest guy from the lot comes up to me and then slaps me on the back. He seems to be enjoying himself. Is he drunk? Wait, are they all drunk? If they are drunk, they robbing me while they were intoxicated¡­ That¡¯s kind of impressive, to be honest. No, no, no. What am I thinking? There¡¯s something more concerning at the moment. What are they planning on doing with me? I hope it¡¯s not like in those erotic novels which I once saw left in a hotel - one in particular left me scarred for life. I shiver. ¡°Come with us!¡± The man slapping my back grins widely while saying so, then drags me by my arm. OW! That hurts you know? Also, where are you taking me? Being dragged along for a good half hour, you¡¯d think I¡¯d have lost HP, but it appears the man had good control over his strength and prevented that - or it could be that it was just taxing on my stamina. HP: 89/100 MP: 100/100 Stamina: 999,000/1,000,000 Haven¡¯t really used anywhere near a lot of my stamina which I¡¯m kind of glad of, but I wonder if there are really people who have the same amount of stamina as me. Surely there would be right? Though, it does seem it may be rare as getting over 500,000 is the requirement for the Stamina King title. ¡°Who¡¯s this person?¡± A deep resounding voice suddenly resounds. Did we finally get to the place where they were taking me? Come on, this took way too long. It took me less time to run over rooftops back in my original world. Mmm¡­ That¡¯s a fun memory. Ended up with a bunch of cops chasing me. Somehow wasn¡¯t arrested though, which is probably the most surprising thing of that entire endeavour. ¡°He¡¯s a stranger who claimed to be a king when we were about to rob him!¡± ¡°He had such a good face.¡± ¡°He¡¯s my new big bro, right~!?¡± She said it again. Is she really wanting an older brother that desperately? She¡¯s what, twelve? Aren¡¯t they usually past the stage of wanting an older brother by this point¡­ ¡°I see. You, do you want to become my son?¡± Well that escalated quickly¡­ WAIT, WHAT DID HE JUST SAY? Did he just ask if I wanted to become his son? Why would I want to be a thief''s son? Probably. Will I activate them yet? Nope. If somebody were to ask me why, I would probably answer like this - ¡°It¡¯s currently not useful so I don¡¯t need to activate it.¡± They would probably then go on to scold me how I just wasted some points on just seeing what they were in the first place. Dear people in my mind, please shut up. I can do what I please. Clearing his throat, the Thief King began to speak. ¡°Hmm¡­ So you accepted, good, good! Now then, my new son, you are to take my daughter on an adventure with you. She¡¯s not known as my daughter, so you shouldn¡¯t be in trouble with the law. Off you go then!¡± The little girl races over to me, and tugs at my arm. ¡°C¡¯mon big bro! We have so many places to go.¡± ¡°...¡± Didn¡¯t even get any good information out of this and it seems I¡¯m being kicked out. Wait, never mind, I do have a partner now who can tell me stuff. Hopefully nothing too bad happens that makes her no longer trust me¡­ Perhaps the new unique skill ¡®Sibling Bonder¡¯ is meant to help me in that sort of situation? Pushing that problem aside, did the title of ¡®Son of the Thief King¡¯ give me any good buffs? (Son of the Thief King: Grants the owner increased agility of + 10%. It will round up to the nearest whole. ) Oooh, this one actually did have a clear effect. It even rounds up rather than staying in decimal. That¡¯s either convenient or weird. [Attack: 9-9] [Defense:6] [Speed:5] [Agility:5(+1)] [Magic: Undiscovered] Having checked that, it seems the thieves are now about to chase me and the little girl out if we linger any longer. As I¡¯m about to take my first steps, she jumps up on my back and holds on tight. ¡°You¡¯re going to carry me~!¡± ¡°Sure, sure. Now what¡¯s your name?¡± ¡°Aliz!¡± ¡°Well then, let¡¯s go.¡± I begin a light jog in the direction which the sun is setting. We weren¡¯t even in a cave! It was just an open clearing. I think the weirdest thing is not that, but that the Thief King was perfectly happy to let his daughter go off with a complete stranger¡­ Those thoughts in my mind, the clearing got further and further behind us. Chapter 4 - Whats with the explanation? "So, Aliz, I''m probably going to sound like a complete idiot, but tell me about this world." "Big Bro isn''t an idiot! No self degrading." Aliz flicks me on the ear while hanging onto me with her other arm. I guess I deserved that, but she doesn''t seem at all surprised that I asked about the world. Does she know? "I''ll answer Big Bro''s question now. The world is split into around four terrains - Forest, Ocean, Desert and towns. Big open spaces like Home are part of the Forest terrain." "I see." The rest of her explanation was something like this - while Forests and towns include Water, the water there isn''t considered ''Ocean'' terrain while the small springs in the desert were. The major ocean terrain however is just a large patch of water, much like how the desert terrain is mostly a large patch of sand. The town terrain is built by people and can be formed on any of the other three terrains. Apparently, the thieves lived on ''Forest'' terrain as the cost to build ''Town'' terrain was too expensive. They may be thieves, but the profits were larger by reducing expenses. They seem more like businessmen to me, but they do steal things so... "Hmm... Then what about caves?" That''s something that had been troubling me - what terrain were caves considered under. There isn''t a terrain to describe them from what I''ve been hearing. "Caves? What do you mean?" "Errrr.. Large, dark rooms that naturally form out of rock?" "That sounds like dungeons... Dungeons aren''t a terrain. They are ''Zones''. ''Zones'' are places where hostile creatures are likely to be hiding." "Oh..." Did I subconsciously put a word from English in thus making it hard to understand what I was asking at first? - 7 ¡­ -2 ¡­ -2 ¡­ Awww crap. Rat l1: [Atk: 5-7, Def: 6, Agl: 6, Mag: 0] Why is it that rats keep coming up to me? I kick at it aggressively again, causing it to fly into a nearby tree. -9 ¡­ [Rat has been slain. +1xp] This xp gained from killing rats is useless I think, but at least I can use the parts of the rat. I walk over and before I collect the parts, Aliz jumps of my back. ¡°What are you doing, big bro~?¡± ¡°Collecting resources.¡± I say so while collecting the parts of the rat. [Inventory: 6/50 spaces filled] [Current Inventory: Rat Whiskers (x2), Rat Skin, Rat Skin, Rat Meat, Rat Meat, Rat Claws (x2)] It appears that while the whiskers and claws stack, the skin and meat doesn¡¯t. What¡¯s the difference? Perhaps it¡¯s how much space it takes up in reality? I don¡¯t know. Anyway, these thoughts are probably useless now as at least I know that there are certain things that stack and don¡¯t take up as much space. ¡°Hmmm¡­. Where did the rat go?¡± ¡°Ehh¡­. You don¡¯t know?¡± Well, she knows I¡¯m from a different world I think, so this shouldn¡¯t be too much of a surprise right? Inventory seemed to be one of the functions of this world. Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. ¡°Oh¡­ You have a job similar to ¡®Adventurer¡¯, perhaps?¡± ¡°Mmm.. Yeah, that¡¯s about right.¡± The actual job is simply ¡°Stranger¡± but it appears as though inventory is a job related skill. I was worried I might have to hide my abilities in front of others for a second there, but it doesn¡¯t seem to be the case. Although, it would be nice to change my job soon. ¡°Is there a way to change jobs?¡± ¡°You have to do it in town at an inn. Hehe~¡± She said so while jumping back on my back. Seriously? Hmm¡­ But it does feel nice to have this sort of character around, so I guess it isn¡¯t too bad. Though, I wonder if it¡¯s actually safe to travel with her - isn¡¯t she a thief? What if they¡¯re entire plan was robbing me while I no longer suspected them? I mean, isn¡¯t it the perfect plan? Ahhhh but¡­ I was adopted into their clan, so perhaps it¡¯s not as dangerous as I was worrying about. Who would adopt someone they were about to rob, right? Actually, thinking about dangerous things, should I not check my HP and Stamina? HP: 78/100 MP: 100/100 Stamina: 998,000/1,000,000 Has it really been that long? Or, how should I put it, I¡¯ve already used another 1000 stamina? I guess having such a large quantity is really useful - though perhaps some of it is being used because I¡¯m carrying Azil on my back? That¡¯s quite likely. Taking up a steady pace once more, I glance around at my surroundings. There are large trees with their glistening leaves shaking gently. On these trees, are creatures which seem to be friendly, but I¡¯m probably wrong. I¡¯ve been wrong every other time. ¡°Why aren¡¯t they attacking?¡± ¡°They only attack high-leveled beings.¡± A sharp stinging is felt in my heart when she replied like that. Seriously?!? These creatures only attack higher level beings? Hearing that, obviously I¡¯m going to start to feel bad. I know I¡¯m low level! The only advantage is I¡¯m not having to deal with many enemies other than these damned rats. Speaking of, I think one¡¯s just about start attacking me. I kick it. -9 ¡­ [Rat has been slain. +1xp] Oh, I got it before it showed it¡¯s stats, but I can¡¯t be bothered collecting the stuff this time, I wonder if I can just put the entire rat in my inventory. It worked, but did I waste my time with the last two rats? Probably. Shit. It uses less space if you leave it without deconstructing the creatures. Does it work with larger creatures? I hope so. Despite this realisation, it¡¯s probably time to continue on our way. Don¡¯t want to waste time while there is still sunlight which we can use. I wonder if there¡¯ll be anything other than rats further on.
