《Tale of Serrin》 Prologue + Chapter 1 - A Boy named Serrin ~Woo! First chapter! Writing hasn''t always been easy, but now starting this fiction proved to be a challenge. My respect for fiction authors and light novelists have skyrocketed. Please enjoy!~ Prologue ¡°Serris! By Faralaies¡¯s name, what the hell are you thinking! Have you gone mad? What do you think you will do by leaving your precious child here?¡± ¡°I have no other choice, Tres. He is not safe here with all this chaos happening.¡± A hint of grief filled his voice. ¡°My boy, my child, he won¡¯t be able to withstand everything. I worry that I will not be able to protect him properly, given the situation.¡± ¡°But, in this¡ this blasted Kingdom! Do you know how unworthy this place I for someone as magnificent as your son? I¡¯d rather provoke the Beast King than stay here!¡± ¡°We don¡¯t have any time! Besides, this town is safe. I have found a couple trustworthy enough to raise him. No one threatening should be able to figure out who he is, or the power he holds. You know very well that I do not wish to part with him either.¡± Tears started to roll down his face. ¡°I know he will grow up to be a strong, handsome, and powerful gentleman.¡± ¡°Shit! It¡¯s here! We have to leave now!¡± Placing down a basket, the figure spoke softly. ¡°My son, don¡¯t forget that your daddy and kingdom are waiting for you! Never forget your last name; Lunis. Remember me, remember that you are strong.¡± The figures disappeared into the night at a rapid pace. Left upon a doorstep, a small, straw basket lay. Inside was a boy, less than a year old. He was nestled in silently, peacefully dreaming. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Chapter 1: A Boy Named Serrin *Drip* *Drip* I could feel a wet sensation on my skin. Sitting up on my bed, I wiped the tears and sleepiness from my eyes. Opening them, I awoke to a blindingly radiant sunlight shining throughout my wooden room. ¡°That dream again, huh?¡± Glancing at my calendar, I notice the date. Cerine 4th, Year 700. Recalling the details, this dream always occurs the day before my birthday. However, the scene is too vivid to be merely just a dream. Thoughts like these are too much for my brain in the morning. I smelt a delicious scent coming from downstairs. I decided to get ready for the day rather than go back to sleep. Getting out of bed, I headed towards the bathroom. Looking at my reflection, I notice something strange. ¡°Huh? What¡¯s this?¡± Staring into the mirror, I found a strange symbol upon my forehead. It had a soft, violet glow to it. The intricate design featured a crescent moon in the center, with runes and lines creating a circular perimeter around it. Touching it, the symbol disappeared. I jumped a little. Looking again, I saw my normal appearance: dark hair, deep violet eyes, delicate skin, a small nose, and a strong v-shaped chin. Maybe I¡¯m seeing things. Symbols are a presence of awakening your affinity for magic. However, every single mage-doctor in the Solaris Kingdom has told me I didn¡¯t have enough Radiance flowing in my body. I got my hopes up for nothing. After showering and changing, I headed downstairs for breakfast. ¡°Good morning, Serrin! Did you sleep well last night?¡± asked a sweet voice ¡°Good morning, boy! Did the smell wake you up too?¡± a powerful voice spoke. Mrs. Lydia and Mr. Darryl, or the Rainsworth¡¯s took me in as a child. Mrs. Lydia is a pretty and sweet woman. She has soft, light blue hair, and a beautiful smile. Her cooking is very famous in this town. Mrs. Lydia is also a well-renowned scholar. Mr. Darryl is a strong and wise man. Packed with strength and handsome features, Mr. Darryl is someone whom I respect and admire deeply. Fiery red hair, piercing dark brown eyes and a prominent deep voice easily separates Mr. Darryl from anyone else. He is currently serving as a Knight instructor. ¡°Good morning. I slept well enough last night.¡± Staring at the perfectly made food on the table made my mouth water. The power of food is simply astonishing! Fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, perfectly golden toast and even homemade orange juice. Mrs. Lydia is truly the best! Sitting down, I helped myself to breakfast. ¡°Serrin, you¡¯re turning 16 tomorrow! You¡¯re growing up too fast, my dear.¡± Mrs. Lydia chuckled ¡°Indeed, I am.¡± I answered back with my mouth full. Proper table manners are a must, but early mornings tend to take over your etiquette and thought process. ¡°Did you do your homework too? A fierce stare aimed in my direction. ¡°Yes I did, Mrs. Lydia.¡± Being homeschooled meant I couldn¡¯t have an excuse for uncompleted homework. But, I do like to learn and study, especially on the subject of magic. A pleasant conversation ensued during the rest of breakfast. After eating, I helped clean the table and wash the dishes. I am always grateful for the Rainsworth¡¯s caring for me, and I am always willing to lend a hand whenever the opportunity arrives. ¡°Ah, Serrin, do you mind going to the marketplace today? I need you to buy some ingredients for me. I have some urgent business to take care of today.¡± said Mrs. Lydia. ¡°Of course I will.¡± I responded. She then handed me a long list. I start to regret this decision. ¡°Do you mind buying me some leather as well?¡± asked Mr. Darryl. "No problem." ¡°Be sure to bring your Radiance light!¡± called Mrs. Lydia. In the Radiance Continent, all citizens and creatures alike rely on ¡®Radiance¡¯. ¡®Radiance¡¯ is a part of all living things¡¯ bodies, and must be constantly refilled and sustained. Radiance naturally releases from the body all the time, to strengthen and maintain it. Radiance is similar to blood, when you lose too much, you will die. Truthfully, I somehow don¡¯t have a single ounce of Radiance in me, and can somehow live without it. Radiance comes directly from the Sun, so people soak in the Radiance during the day. At night, Radiance lamps, with Radiance fragments inside help to keep your body intact. Radiance is also needed to channel mana; the source of magic. Mrs. Lydia makes me bring a small Radiance light with me as people who have been diagnosed with low Radiance are required to bring one around. I keep mine in my pocket, but it always remains untouched. ¡°I will.¡± Grabbing my cloak, I headed out the door. Walking towards the inner most part of town, I glanced back at the house. It was a small, old, wooden mansion, with many rooms and windows. The interior is furnished well, but a little out of date. We own some magical technology such as the hologram TV or the Radiance-powered car though. It is located on the outermost part of Solaris City, surrounded by nothing but breathtaking wildlife and scenery. If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation. The innermost part of Solaris City is surrounded by giant walls, and a protective barrier. The place is highly secured with guards stationed at every corner. Walking through the massive gates, the city is filled with vibrant colours and lights. Beautiful architecture, statues, and marble buildings are a sight themselves. Decorated with flowers and banners, Solaris City is worth the title of Capital. The marketplace in Solaris City is a busy one. Millions of citizens shop and socialize within the marketplace. Plays, art displays, foreign animal shows, magic acts, orchestras and much more activities are a daily occurrence here. Putting my hood on, I proceeded to shop. While many hairs and eye colours can be found in this Kingdom, no one else seems to have black hair. Violet eyes aren¡¯t common, but having ¡®pure¡¯ violet eyes is unheard of. Stares make me uncomfortable. I prefer to not be the center of attention. Hovering to each stall and shop, the shopkeepers always welcome and greet me. ¡°Fine day isn¡¯t it, Serrin?¡± asks Melina from the bread stall. ¡°Well, well, well if it isn¡¯t Serrin my boy!¡± exclaims Basil from the spice store. ¡°Hello Mr. Regular!¡± greets Zara from the cake shop. It is always a pleasure to go shopping here. Everyone is so kind and helpful. Not to mention, I always get discounts and bonuses from the vendors. Wandering around the marketplace, I see many ads for Stellar Academy. Stellar Academy is Radiance Continent¡¯s number one Mage and Knight Academy. Both high and prestigious, only the most gifted are selected to attend. Reading one made my heart waiver a little. Mrs. Lydia decided to homeschool me instead of attending a public school. Having little radiance is frowned upon in this country. Radiance staffs and swords are made for both Mages and Knights. While they are embedded with Radiance fragments, they are designed to react to your own Radiance. Mr. Darryl chose to train me in both combat and sword, which made me feel more confident, rather than being left with no power. Still, even Knights need magic to be considered strong! At least I can still dream about having magical powers. Knights aren¡¯t bad, but I already knew their fighting style. Mages are more valued in this kingdom, due to their powerful magic and spells, and this kingdom relies on magic! Man, how I wish to become a mage. Leaving the ad, I noticed a young lady being attacked by a group of about 6-8 men. Alarmed, I headed towards the area. To my surprise, an old man steps in to save her. The lady runs off, leaving the old man to be surrounded. Picking up my pace, I dashed in to save him. ¡°Hey old fart! The hell are you doing, chasing off the lady, huh? We were just trying to have some fun with her!¡± laughed a man. ¡°Now, you will pay for that. We worked real hard trying to find the right girl.¡± said another. ¡°Why don¡¯t you leave her alone!¡± mocked a man. Closing in on the old man, I panicked. Mr. Darryl tells me to use my strength for justice, and not to pick fights with random people. This situation definitely needed some justice. Taking a huge leap, I soared in the air; quite majestic really. Targeting one of the men, I kicked the back of his head. Knocking him to the ground, the others soon noticed. ¡°Hey, what the fu-¡°another man barely said as I hit his pressure points. One by one, the men swung heavy fists. A dodge here, a punch there, a kick there, soon a pile of bodies lay on the stone ground. *Thump* the last man fell. ¡°Sir, are you alright?¡± I asked the old man who by this point had a shocked expression upon his face. ¡°Not at all, young man. Are you alright yourself?¡± he responded. ¡°Oh, I¡¯m fine, thank you. Would you like me to help you back home?¡± ¡°That¡¯s okay, boy. You have done enough for me today.¡± The man chuckled. With that, he waved once more, and strode off deep into the marketplace. What a long day. I should head back home as well. Finishing up some shopping, I walked back to the wooden mansion. ¡°I¡¯m home.¡± Calling out, I spotted Mrs. Lydia preparing dinner. ¡°Serrin did you finish shopping?¡± asked Mrs. Lydia. ¡°Yeah, I did. There was quite a number of people there than usual.¡± Handing Mrs. Lydia the groceries, I started preparing with her. To think it was this time already! Washing, chopping, cleaning, cooking, and even sewing, I always help Mrs. Lydia. Once the food was ready, Mr. Darryl joined us in the kitchen. ¡°I smell dragon blood soup!¡± drooled Mr. Darryl. Dragon blood soup, crispy mushroom sheep, and sunshine lettuce salad filled the air with its breathtaking aroma. With all of us seated at the table, we began to eat. Light conversation was made throughout the meal, mostly about my shopping trip. ¡°You did what!?¡± exclaimed Mrs. Lydia. ¡°That¡¯s my boy! Did you beat them up good?¡± laughed Mr. Darryl. ¡°Ha ha. I sure did.¡± Finishing my meal, I cleaned up and headed towards my room. ¡°Oh wait Serrin. I have something for you.¡± Pulling out something from her apron, Mrs. Lydia handed me a little black box. ¡°Thank you.¡± Looking at the box, I noticed it seemed solid, more cube like. The box was deep obsidian, with a soft yet smooth texture to it. The box itself was quite plain, except for one side having a strange¡ crescent moon symbol? ¡°Where did you get this Mrs. Lydia?¡± ¡°It came in the basket we found you in. I couldn¡¯t wait to give it to you. Today felt like the right moment. It doesn¡¯t seem to open though, even when applying Radiance to it.¡± ¡°I¡¯ll treasure this. Thank you, really.¡± Racing to my room, I hurriedly shut the door. Her words were very peculiar. ¡°It doesn¡¯t seem to open though, even when applying Radiance to it.¡± The symbol engraved into the box definitely resembled the same symbol that had appeared on my forehead earlier this morning. Touching the lines, they briefly lit up a violet hue. After, the box gave no reaction. I undeniably need to tinker with this. Clearly this box has something to do with me and feasibly a clue to why I don¡¯t have Radiance. Setting the box down, I tried looking up the symbol. Hours passed, and I hadn¡¯t noticed the sun had set. Nothing even close to this symbol had come up. ¡°Oh well, I guess I¡¯ll look further into it tomorrow.¡± Staring outside my window, a pretty moonlight beamed back at me. ¡°Time to get some rest,¡± I muttered crawling into bed. Chapter 2: The Boy, the Box, and the Birthday ~Second chapter up! Finally we''re getting to the ''School Life'' section. Getting more hyped to write!~ Chapter 2: The Boy, the Box, and the Birthday Silence filled the wooden mansion. Not a single sound was heard throughout the house. A faint glow emitted from the box, now immersed in moonlight. The glow grew brighter, and stronger, engulfing the box. ¡°Am I dreaming? Why is there a purple light?¡± Waking up, I was almost blinded by the sight. Picking up the box, the light stopped. Staring at the cube, crescent symbols appeared on each side, engraved by a light violet colour. ¡°Hmm? What¡¯s this?¡± It appears that this box is reacting to me... and the moonlight? I have always preferred the beauty of the night. The twinkling stars, cold refreshing air, and the marvellous appearance of the bright, pearlescent moon. The night is dangerous for Solarites without proper Radiance however. Tonight seemed to be filled with violet moonlight. Glancing at the box, I decided to head outside and test it out. I speculate that this box will open with more moonlight. Using the back door was going to be tricky; Mr. Darryl has a sensitive sense of hearing. Grabbing the box, I walked towards my window and proceeded to jump out instead. Mrs. Lydia always says that I remind her of a cat, being able to jump and land anywhere. The backyard of the mansion is a vast clearing. Surrounding it is a forest of towering ring of trees, and a plethora of plant life. The center of the yard features a medium sized pond, filled with koi fish and tall grass. Tilting my vision towards the moon, I found it to be shining straight upon the pond. Moving towards the pond, I saw the reflection of a bright full moon. The pond itself appeared to be sparkling with a glossy sheen to it. Touching the water, I felt a wet tingle on my skin, yet my hand wasn¡¯t able to submerge beneath it. This is truly bizarre. Touching it once more had the same result. ¡°Magic!¡± I muttered breathlessly. An idea sparked in my mind. I hesitantly placed one foot on the water¡¯s surface. Sceptical, I placed my other foot. Standing on the water was weird sensation, yet thrilling at the same time. I might as well have some fun while it lasts. Striding, skipping, twirling, back flipping I eventually made my way to the moons image. Retrieving the box, I cautiously walked towards the center of the pond. Absorbing the moonlight, the symbols lifted off the box. Slowly, the box began to elevate slightly into the air. The box tilted and turned, and the symbols expanded violently. Pushed back by the force, the box immediately became struck with a thick pillar of moonlight. The violet light momentarily swallowed the whole area. Dissipating, what was left in the air was the little black box. The box moved towards me, landing on my outstretched hands. A symbol twists and turned, revealing an opening. Taking out the contents, a silver chained necklace came out. The necklace itself looked ordinary, but it had a small crescent moon pendant. The crescent moon was exactly like the ones of these mysterious symbols, yet engraved into it was the word ¡®Lunis¡¯. Putting the necklace on, I sensed a surge of energy rush throughout my body. The crescent moon symbol appeared on the back and palm of my right hand. ¡°What''s this?¡± Holding out my hand, a beam of violet light channelled through. Quickly putting my hand down, I noticed a perfectly straight row of burnt trees. This necklace must have awakened my mana somehow. Not wanting to mercilessly slaughter anymore trees, I thought about having the symbol disappear. Surprisingly, it did. I thought of the symbol appearing on my hand. It reappeared. Magic is tricky in a way that thoughts won¡¯t always control the outcome. Incantations are generally needed to properly channel and summon your mana. Taking off the necklace, I tried de-summoning and re-summoning the symbol again. The outcome was the same. I really awakened my mana! Had I become a mage? But I felt no Radiance within me. With a chilly breeze brushing by, I decided to head back inside the mansion. Leaping into the window, I placed the necklace back on and went to bed. Tomorrow is ought to be an exciting day. _____________________________________________________________________________________ ¡°Sir, what do you think that was?¡± ¡°Who knows? It certainly wasn¡¯t normal either.¡± ¡°Shall I send mages to investigate?¡± ¡°No. I will personally attend to the matter. I have business to take care of there.¡± _____________________________________________________________________________________ *Chirp* *chirp* *chirp* the sound of birds can be a pain sometimes. Getting up, the sun illuminates my room once again. Touching the pendant, it seemed much cooler to the touch. The black box rested on my nightstand, remaining open. Cerine 5th, Year 700, the day I turn 16. Hurriedly bathing and getting dressed, I rushed downstairs. I found Mr. Darryl and Mrs. Lydia awaited at the table. ¡°Happy Birthday Serrin!¡± they cheered in unison. On the table was Mrs. Sylvia¡¯s homemade strawberry shortcake. Yum! On my birthday, I always get the option of eating cake for breakfast. Rushing towards the two, I hugged them both. ¡°Thank you very much!¡± Sweets are the best! Sitting down, I indulged in the cake. ¡°Don¡¯t eat too fast Serrin!¡± warned Mrs. Lydia. ¡°Let him. It¡¯s his special day after all!¡± said Mr. Darryl. Enjoying my cake, I heard a knock on the door. Rushing to the door, Mrs. Lydia opened it. A guest so early? I had just taken one bite of my cake too. ¡°Mrs. Rainsworth, do you happen to have a young man with black hair and violet eyes living with you?¡± asked an elderly voice. I chocked on my cake. Is he looking for me? ¡°H-Headmaster! What brings your noble self to my home?¡± asked Mrs. Lydia ¡°I wish to speak to the boy. Is that fine, Mrs. Rainsworth?¡± ¡°Oh yes, yes. Do come in.¡± At the entrance, an old man dressed in fine mage robes appeared. When the man came closer, I recognized him. He was the same man I had encountered yesterday. Seeing the guest, Mr. Darryl chocked on his coffee. ¡°Headmaster?¡± Mr. Darryl hastily stood up and bowed. He shot a glance at me, and I repeated his action. ¡°Now you don¡¯t need to be so formal. I am the guest here. I wish to have a chat with you. ¡°He peered in my direction. ¡°O-Oh, yes that¡¯s fine.¡± Leaving my precious cake behind, all four of us headed towards the living room. ¡°Serrin, this is Headmaster Claudius of Stellar Academy.¡± Said Mrs. Lydia. ¡°Serrin, first I would like to thank you once more. I don¡¯t think those men would still be alive if you hadn¡¯t intervened. ¡°The Headmaster chuckled. ¡°You¡¯re very welcome, sir. I just did what I have been taught; to help others in need.¡± I blushed a little. I always get embarrassed when people praise me. You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story. ¡°Mr. Rainsworth, did you teach him combat? He seems exceedingly skilled.¡± ¡°I sure did! He could fight that well since he was 5 years old.¡± Mr. Darryl said proudly. ¡°May I say that Serrin read through my whole collection of Magical Encyclopaedia¡¯s at age 3!¡± Mrs. Sylvia added ¡°Serrin called me ¡®Mr. Darryl¡¯ after three days of raising him! He is such an intelligent and polite child!¡± My face had turned deep crimson. All this praise was too much for me to handle. ¡°What a talented boy you have! Is he not of your blood?¡± asked the Headmaster. ¡°We found him in a basket placed on the doorstep. I am unable to have any children myself. This boy has brought us great joy!¡± Saying this, Mrs. Lydia hugged me. ¡°Now unto the real reason I am here.¡± The Headmaster paused. ¡°I would like for Serrin to enter Stellar Academy. What he demonstrated the other day can be regarded as an application.¡± Hearing this, my heart stopped. This single phrase left me motionless and left my brain speechless. Me? Going to Stellar Academy? My dreams of becoming a mage flashed through my head. The Headmaster of Stellar Academy was sitting in my home! Older brother of the King, and the strongest person in the Radiance Continent! Though what I had accomplished yesterday wasn''t the greatest feat. Then again, I hadn''t used any Radiance. ¡°My son has always dreamed of becoming a mage, yet¡ he has no radiance. I¡¯m not sure if he should still attend.¡± Mrs. Lydia spoke in a low voice. The Headmasters eyes showed a hint of shock. He at once asked me a question. ¡°Boy, what is your last name?¡± ¡°Lunis, sir.¡± I replied. His expression changed. It now revealed a jolt of astonishment. ¡°Mrs. Rainsworth, his deficiency of Radiance is a pressing matter; however, this boy must attend my academy! I¡¯m sure he would enjoy advance studies in magic, and witness powerful spells himself.¡± The Headmaster said excitingly. ¡°What do you say, Serrin?¡± ¡°Yes! With pleasure! I would be honoured to attend Stellar Academy!¡± I exclaimed. He seems to know the name Lunis. My last name is more mysterious than I thought. ¡°Ha Ha. I like your enthusiasm. Do you mind if you start today? The opening ceremony starts soon. I can transport you there. Sorry for such a short notice.¡± ¡°No not at all, Headmaster. Serrin, start packing immediately, we wouldn¡¯t want you to be late.¡± said Mr. Darryl. ¡°Yes! I will get ready soon.¡± Excusing myself, I bolted to my room. Frantically finding a suitcase, I swiftly and efficiently packed my things. I forced myself not to shove everything, reminding that my clothes will wrinkle. Many events have happened over these last hours. These events are all happening too soon; one after another. Closing the suitcase, I placed the box in my cloak, grabbed my sword and ran downstairs. I can¡¯t let the Headmaster wait long. Arriving downstairs, I found the three adults clustered by the entrance. Mrs. Lydia was crying when I approached them. She pulled me into her embrace. ¡°Serrin, you¡¯re going to school for the first time! I can¡¯t believe you get to experience going to the same Academy as I. You¡¯ll be at the Academy for several months, dear. We won¡¯t be able to see you for a while. Be safe, don¡¯t drink, don¡¯t stay out too late and learn as many things as you can!¡± Wiping away her tears, Mrs. Lydia handed me a leather bag. ¡°Happy Birthday, Serrin.¡± ¡°Serrin, this sword was forged with a black metal sheet I found in your basket. This sword is the finest I have ever crafted! The sheath is of excellent quality too.¡± Handing me the sword, I hugged Mr. Darryl firmly. ¡°Thank you very much.¡± I felt tears flooding my eyes. This is too much emotion for any morning. Leaving my caretakers for a long period of time is something I haven¡¯t done before. ¡°Be sure to write letters, and visit when you can!¡± with one last embrace and kiss, I bid Mrs. Sylvia and Mr. Darryl goodbye. I stepped out into the front yard. Outside the mansion was a gold-plated Radiance-car. ¡°Please go in Serrin.¡± said the Headmaster. This Radiance-car was certainly high class. All around it protection seals had been casted. Sitting in the front, the Headmaster started driving. I glanced back at the wooden mansion one last time. ¡°Sorry for taking you so early and on a short notice Mr. Lunis.¡± ¡°Oh, that is fine. It must have been hard for you to come out here so early, Headmaster. ¡± Mr. Lunis. It had a nice ring to it. It was odd being addressed this way. The Headmaster continued to talk. ¡°Don¡¯t worry about your Radiance issue. Classes are divided into two sections. Magical studies and Magical practice. During the Magical practice, I have assigned you to have free time. Be it at the library, or around the Academy, the choice is up to you. If anyone asks, say you are heading to private lessons in my office.¡± ¡°Headmaster, I don¡¯t mean to be rude, but I possessing no Radiance not bother you at all?¡± This question had been on my mind. In front of the Headmaster overflowing with Radiance, how could he not be surprised? ¡°I once encountered a man exactly like you. He was certainly very strange, but this man had saved my life. I can¡¯t remember the details, this event was long ago, but, I will always remember that man. I¡ trembled at this man¡¯s power. It was simply too astonishing. Nothing like I have ever seen before in my many years.¡± The Headmaster¡¯s tone was powerful. ¡°Do you know his name?¡± ¡°He merely told me this, ¡°I am a Lunis. That is who I am.¡±¡± Lunis. This name is always appearing. Yet, I am still puzzled. Who exactly am I? Rather, what is a ¡®Lunis¡¯? The rest of the drive the Headmaster asked me about my daily life and hobbies. He never brought back the ¡®Lunis¡¯ subject again. Nearing the Academy, I have always wondered what attending ¡®school¡¯ would be like. The Rainsworth¡¯s tell me that school is a rough and tiring place, filled with many people of power and class. Education is strict and unforgiving yet, I feel sort of happy attending school for the first time. Well, my mental process is still focusing on last night¡¯s event anyway. When the Academy came into view, I couldn¡¯t contain my excitement. The Academy was an enormous marble castle, towering high into the sky. The architecture was extravagant, beautiful pillars, gold-tinted windows, realistic carved statues, flawlessly trimmed hedges, a solid gold pathway, and hundreds of Radiance Lamps. Rather, The Academy itself seemed to emit a faint glow of Radiance. Many students were gathering by the hundreds towards the main entrance. Seeing my expression, the Headmaster laughed. Driving close to the entrance, the Headmaster parked the vehicle. Exiting out of the car, I couldn¡¯t help but stare motionless at the Academy. ¡°Serrin Lunis, welcome to Stellar Academy!¡± Chapter 3: Stellar Academy ~ I''ve gotten lazy T-T... Oh well, finally a chapter!~ :sleepy: Chapter 3: Stellar Academy Looking at his watch, the Headmaster sighed. ¡°Oh dear, the Opening Ceremony has already ended! I¡¯m constantly late for these occasions. Serrin, I hope you don¡¯t mind.¡± He gave me a pitiful look. ¡°No, sir. I don¡¯t mind at all.¡± Personally, I would have liked to attend, but intruding in the middle of the ceremony wouldn¡¯t be the best scenario. The Headmaster eyed me up and down and gave a puzzled expression. In less than a minute, his expression turned surprised. The Headmaster waved his hand. A yellow light briefly enveloped my body. Rather than my simple cloth garments, I had now sported a white button-up shirt underneath a deep crimson blazer. The blazer had gold trimming and details, with Radiance Academy¡¯s signature sun emblem on the left chest pocket. My pants changed jet black, with a pair of matching loafers. A neat gold tie finished off Stellar Academy¡¯s uniform. ¡°I cannot let you wander around without the proper attire.¡± he said. Glancing at his watch, the Headmaster¡¯s speech sped up. ¡°I¡¯m sorry to part with you, but I am far behind schedule.¡± He summoned a gold ring and a pamphlet. Handing them towards me, he continued speaking. ¡°This ring is required to be worn at all times. It is a symbol of your acceptance at the Academy. In addition, this ring can be used as a schedule, key to dorms, a library card, identification, and a watch. The stone colour of this ring corresponds to your year. The pamphlet contains an in-depth map on the Academy, and the Academy¡¯s rules and regulations. Oh, and if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to visit me in my office.¡± ¡°Thank you, Headmaster. I¡¯ll look after this ring with care.¡± Sliding the ring on my finger, I felt a prickle. Ouch! I felt my finger bleed. The ring then showed a holographic image of me. The image was able to produce all of my personal information such as height, eye colour, and shoe size. This ring even knew my full name, current address, and birthday. A real all-in-one, that¡¯s for sure. Looking up, I noticed the Headmaster had already left. More and more students entered the main building. ¡°Well Serrin, it¡¯s just a staicase.¡± I sprang up the massive flight of stairs in front of me. Walking up each individual stair would take forever with no Radiance. Reaching the top in no time, students who had flown gave me weird glances. Lucky for me, soon after they ignored what had happened. The entrance to the Academy featured a giant golden statue of the Headmaster. The Headmaster undoubtedly has an obsession. Further along, the doors to the building were large golden portals, herding incoming students. ¡°Attention lowly students!¡± a booming voice spread throughout the area. Immediately, all the students focused their attention to the sound. A short, burly man began trotting towards the doors. No sooner than when he spoke, everyone was pushed back by his voice. ¡°Make way for her majesty, the glorious princess Vialenca Elizabeth Astra Solaria!¡± Right behind the man appeared an entourage of eight guards. Just visibly in the center, I could make out a girl with shiny, golden hair. Gazing at the girl, I found two clear amber eyes staring back in my direction. I could feel my face burn up as I quickly looked away. Though students are not to be treated based on their social class, there is no doubt that King had set up this extravagant protection for the princess. As the group walked, several maids would scatter flower petals after each step. No student was could be within three metres of the princess. The grand entrance lasted for several minutes before I was allowed in. ¡° That girl was really¡ pretty.¡± I couldn¡¯t help but blush. Getting such thoughts out of my system, I finally walked through the portal. The inside of Stellar Academy was on par with its outer appearance. A crisp, clean environment, filled with the presence of Radiance. The atmosphere gave a warm, comfortable yet lavish feeling. Statues, paintings and plant life decorated the vicinity, while Radiance chandeliers lit up halls. Taking out the pamphlet, the layout of this Academy was very simple. Three hallways intersected at the entrance lead to the corresponding floor for each year. The left hallway lead to the first year classrooms on the main floor. The right hallway, once passing through a portal, teleported you to the second floor. Lastly, the middle hallway featured a grand spiralling staircase which leads you to the third year¡¯s domain. Each hallway featured a coloured flag. Brown, azure, and gold represented the first, second, and third years respectively. The stone on my ring was a bright gold, with an ¡®S¡¯ engraved onto it. I never thought I would already be a third year. This seemed strange; however, the Headmaster of all people wouldn¡¯t lie. I headed towards the middle hallway. At the end, I found out for myself why the staircase was so grand. The steps were two metres long in length, and half a meter tall in width. The staircase kept spiralling and spiralling, so much that I couldn¡¯t see the end from my standpoint. Going up the stairs, I had already reached the third floor in a matter of leaps. The third floor was just as elegant as the main entrance, but gave a more high-class vibe to it. Looking back at the stairs, they still continued to spiral, despite there being no floor higher than the third. I can¡¯t let my curiosity get the best of me right now. I¡¯ll save investigating for another time. Down the hallway, it branched off in two directions. The right side was for studying magic while the left was for magic battling and practice. Activating my ring, the first half of my day was in room ¡®S¡¯, studying advanced magical arts. Going right, I couldn¡¯t find any room with the letter ¡®S¡¯. Asking the professors, they gave me all gave me a puzzled look, saying this class doesn¡¯t exist. Even more confused looks came from the professors over in the battle and practice section. I only had ten minutes before class starts after going to each classroom. Going back towards the staircase, I sensed something. Turning around, a large gold ¡®S¡¯ appeared in the middle of the two hallways. Approaching the glowing ¡®S¡¯, it matched the exact shape as the ¡®S¡¯ on my ring. In the middle of the letter, a hole, the perfect shape and size of my ring appeared. The Headmasters words echoed in my mind, ¡°This ring can be used as a key.¡± Placing the ring in, a series of golden lines flowed out of the ¡®S¡¯, forming a solid gold door. As I pushed the golden handle, I was awaited by an empty classroom. This classroom was almost twice as large compared to the other rooms I had been in, and those rooms were very spacious. The room had white marble walls and flooring, with several Radiance chandeliers suspended on the ceiling. The front of the classroom features a chalk board, an elaborate gold podium, and a long marble desk. A short distance away, three smaller marble desks were aligned in a row, with large cushioned chairs for comfortable seating. Behind this study area, a grand-scale battle arena was set. The symbols on it are fairly complex, allowing none of the surrounding area to be scathed. Large paneled windows allowed every corner of this classroom to be illuminated by the sunlight. This Academy isn¡¯t called ¡®prestigious¡¯ for nothing. To my surprise, I was the only one in the classroom. Taking a seat, I sat quietly at a desk waiting for others to show up. It wasn¡¯t long before I heard voices coming from outside. ¡°How dare you hide this classroom from the princess? You have made her walk strenuously in an effort to find this room!¡± the booming voice from earlier shouted. ¡°This room is not for mere students, sir. If anyone can find this room, it wouldn¡¯t be called the Special class now would it?¡± A prominently cold voice responded. ¡°But we went through all the floors and classrooms of this academy! Are you trying to make the princess¡¯s precious legs fall off?¡± ¡°This classroom is not a private environment for her highness herself. I needed to escort two other individuals to this room. The earlier incident was only excused by the Headmaster just this once. Any more outrageous entrances are forbidden!¡± ¡°This is the princes we are dealing with! How could you be so rude!?¡± ¡°Come along now you two; let us proceed into the classroom. As for you sir, if you have any more concerns, I, Henry Zafire will deal with them later.¡± The door to the classroom finally opened, and three people rushed inside. As for the people, I could faintly see them cowering towards the staircase. ¡°Mr. Lunis! It appears that you have found your way here by yourself. I was worrying we wouldn¡¯t find you. By the way, my name is Mr. Zafire. I will be your teacher in both magical study, and magical combat.¡± The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.Mr. Zafire was a tall, thin, middle-aged man. His looks were rather ordinary, aside from his fiery red eyes. Mr. Zafire had long brown hair tied back into a ponytail, and sported a long, red robe. ¡°While we haven¡¯t all settled down, why don¡¯t we all introduce ourselves? Mr. Lunis, would you care to go first?¡± ¡°Sure, I wouldn¡¯t mind.¡± I stood up and walked over to the other two students. With a small bow, I introduced myself. ¡°My name is Serrin Lunis.¡± Once I was done, a blue-haired boy went next. ¡°My name is Blade Rainsvelt. Nice to meet all of ya!¡± Blade had wavy sapphire hair, and soft hazel eyes. Blade was rather tall and had a strong build. In terms of his looks, they were almost strikingly similar to Mr. Darryl. Finally, the last person introduced herself. ¡°Hello, Serrin, Blade, I¡¯m sure you all know who I am by now. My name is Via Solaria; it¡¯s a pleasure to meet you two.¡± Who would have thought I¡¯d get to meet the princess in person? While I have heard rumours of the princess¡¯s beauty, when you see her in front of your eyes, ¡®beautiful¡¯ is an understatement. Her flowing, long golden hair was decorated with gold chains. Her body and face had stunning proportions, coupled with an aura of confidence. Those same amber eyes I had glanced at earlier were even more lustrous. ¡°Okay class; please proceed to take a seat. I¡¯m sure we all have questions.¡± said Mr. Zafire. Via and Blade both took the end seats leaving me to awkwardly sit in the middle. As soon as I sat down, Blade had a question. ¡°Zaf, why is this class the ¡®Special¡¯ class? Are we all third years or something?¡± ¡°Firstly it¡¯s Mr. Zafire, please. Secondly, all three of you possess either outstandingly high mana and Radiance levels, or exceptionally high magical intellect. All of you would be first years, but to put you students on the same level as first or even third years wouldn¡¯t be accurate.¡± ¡°Mr. Zafire, how come you are the only professor to teach us?¡± asked Via ¡°That is because the Headmaster has deemed the other professors not capable enough. He entrusts me to fully waken each and every one of your magical potential. Does anyone have any further questions?¡± ¡°No, sir.¡± all three of us responded in unison. ¡°Well, let us begin today¡¯s lesson. Everyone, please take out your quills and journal from your desk.¡± The desk contained various supplies such as quills, ink, paper, and an encyclopedia. I was surprised to find a fragment of Radiance inside. Laid on a small velvet pillow, I lightly brushed it. To my expectation and disappointment, no response came from it. Mr. Zafire continued speaking. ¡°Now, I assume that everyone knows the basics of magic? I suppose a review wouldn¡¯t hurt. Your inner Radiance reacts to a fragment of Radiance embedded in an object such as a staff and helps you to channel out your mana. The more Radiance you have the more mana you can channel out. Mana is an internal source of energy with various properties, depending on how you wish to utilize it. Mana is your primary source of magic! No Radiance equates to no mana, which absolutely means no magic can be cast, or created. Now, magic must be controlled by using certain symbols, runes, formations shapes. The more complex the design is the more power and control you will have over the spell¡¡± Mr. Zafire continued reviewing different properties of magic, as well as Radiance control. All the words that came out of his mouth were already memorized by my brain years ago. However, it looked like Blade was struggling to keep up. The formations he taught were new to my mind, and the spells he chanted were somewhat unfamiliar. The way he taught made three hours seem as simply twenty minutes. I couldn¡¯t believe it when he said it was already lunch! ¡°Students, I expect you to be here promptly after lunch ends. There will be punishment for those who arrive late. Understood?¡± ¡°Yes, sir!¡± Via, Blade and I exited the classroom. Since all of us were hungry, we decided on going to the lunch hall together. ¡°Man, that old guy is hard to understand! I wish we could just rain in magic and combat more.¡± said Blade. ¡°I don¡¯t think it was so bad. Those spells and formations are just waiting for me to cast them!¡± said Via. ¡°What do you think, Serr?¡± ¡°Well, I found his teaching to be very interesting.¡± ¡°Teach me your ways! All I hear is magic, Radiance, bla bla bla¡¡± The three of us had a nice chat about studies and magic. I learned more about Via and Blade as well. Blade is a chill and easygoing. While he wanted to become a knight instead, his ¡®old man¡¯ enrolled him to become a mage. The Rainsvelt family is an old and noble lineage, producing several top tier magicians every generation. Via on the other hand, has focused her mind on the ambition of becoming a Magister. She doesn¡¯t like to stay cooped up in the palace, and would much rather go on adventures. Talking with them made my mind fuzzy. This is my first time having a conversation with friends my age. The path leading to the lunch hall was nauseating. The smells coming from the hall made my stomach churn. When we entered the lunch area, I almost vomited. The lunch hall was a grand room decorated with Stellar Academy banners, and plants. The ceiling gave off a nice greenhouse feel with glass paneling. All along the floor were many well set tables with various amounts of foods. The food looked delicious, but smelt horrible. How torturous. Seeing my expression, Via and Blade looked confused. ¡°Are you alright Serrin? You look ill.¡± ¡°Serr, how come you look like that when seeing all this magnificent food!?¡± ¡°Err, I was feeling a little sick this morning. I¡¯ll grab something to eat later. Thank you for your concern.¡± Without waiting for a reply, I dashed out of the lunch hall, and out of the main building. I kept running until I could no longer smell that unbearable scent. The food they serve here is infused with pure Radiance. Radiance is naturally in a misty-liquid form, but is usually refined into crystal fragments. I can¡¯t handle pure Radiance by itself. A drop of pure Radiance in my system is enough to make me faint. Guess I¡¯ll have to make my own food from now on. At this moment, I finally observed my surroundings. I have accidently stumbled into a forest. This forest gave me an eerie sensation, but I became too hungry to care. Taking out the bag Mrs. Lydia gave me, I luckily found a well prepared lunch box. Sitting underneath a tree, I ate my lunch while examining the other contents of the bag. Inside was also a crimson red cloak. On the back, a gold embroidered Stellar Academy symbol was sewn on. A letter fell from the coat. ¡°This was my own cloak I used in the Academy.¡± ¨C Mrs. Lydia I blushed. I can¡¯t believe she would give me her own cloak. Putting it on felt embarrassing, but it gave me a warm feeling. I continued to happily eat until I heard a voice. ¡°Human child, how did you get here?¡± a low voice purred. ¡°M-me? I just ran here unknowingly.¡± I felt an immense pressure surround me. I barely stuttered these words. No figure could be seen in sight. It was if I was speaking with a tree. ¡°You¡ just ran in here? You felt nothing restrictive?¡± the voice slowly said. ¡°Well, yes. Is there something wrong with this forest?¡± ¡°Human, I have set up countless barriers around this area. No being or existence should be able to be in this forest without my knowledge, but yet here you are. An insignificant human child of all things. Tell me, what brings you to my territory?¡± Thinking back, I did feel some resistance running through here. ¡°I really just stumbled here on accident!¡± ¡°Really? Very interesting¡ then I¡¯ll help you get out!¡± The voice roared ferociously, and the force alone threw my body backwards at a rapid rate. Looking down, I could see the heads of the trees past by me. My body started to be pulled down by gravity; quickly I braced myself for impact. Unscathed, but with tremendous effort, I had landed up right on the ground. The collision hurt like hell, but it was nice to be on the ground. My items quickly rained down from the sky and landed neatly in my hands. The bag appeared untouched, but the remainders of my food were eaten. I don¡¯t think I¡¯ll be entering forests for a while. A loud bell rang from the distance. Lunch is already over. With a sigh, I walked back towards the Academy. ¡°At least I can relax in the library now¡¡±
