《The Demon Lord becomes the hero? DROPPED》 Chapter 1: Day 1 of a new world Author note: For those new readers, this is my first edited chapter. I am currently going through and editing most of it, removing typos, grammar mistakes and making thee speech flow better. That is why you will suddenly see a drop in quality after this chapter until chapter 16. You can either read the crap version or wait until I have edited it. It is your choice. Without further a due, here is chapter 1 of ''The Demon Lord becomes the hero?''. __________ So, have you ever thought about fighting the ground? Neither have I but I am now in that very same predicament. I woke up on the floor a couple of minutes ago, just to be told to slay a Demon Lord. Not just any demon lord; but a demon lord that is so strong that I might as well be fighting something invincible. My name is Draculus Asdain, the strongest Demon Lord ever; or so I would like to say. In reality, I am a disgrace to my family. I am only slightly stronger than a normal human and I haven''t even grown horns yet, even though I am already 15 years old. Although my eyes have a glint of red, my black hair and build makes me look like an ordinary human, let alone a Demon Lord. Now someone asks me to do the impossible; to kill the unkillable; to defeat the strongest power on the planet. Hell no! "So, what do you say hero? Will you fight for our worthy cause and defeat the demon lord? Will you slay the being who slaughtered our..." the King starts to ask. "No" Before he could even carry on talking, I interrupted him. How can he even ask that of me? First he summoned me from my home without permission and now he expects me to do the impossible? I am not some toy that people can just manipulate and I won''t attempt something I will probably die trying to accomplish. "You are too selfish, pushing your own problems onto me and expecting me to deal with it without offering anything in return. You have not even told me whether or not I can go home." The soldiers in the throne room, who had not even acknowledged my presence until now, all glared daggers at me. "How dare you say that our benevolent king is selfish. If you continue to insult our King, we will cut you down, peasant," a couple of soldiers said in unison. The King held up his hand and the soldiers stopped cursing me. "No, he is right. I am selfish. I regretfully tell you, hero, that you can not return to your own world. However, I will offer you some compensation. What is it you desire?" First he thinks he can manipulate me and now he is trying to bribe me? What kind of ''benevolent'' King does that? I guess I could have my own fun though. Perhaps I could further my own goals here. "A kingdom to call my own; one that I could rule over." Once again, I was glared at. This time, a rather burly soldier, in more expensive looking armour than the others, shut them up. "Be quiet, this is the King''s decision!" Finally, a soldier who doesn''t piss me off; at least for now anyway. "But Captain..." Before the soldier could finish his sentence, the elderly King burst out laughing. "If that is all you want, I will give it to you. There will be some land left from the remains of the demon lord''s castle after you defeat him. I was going to give it to some nobles but if you want, you may have it. Now, let us have a feast. Afterwards, Arthur, you take care of the hero." The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. The burly soldier, that had been referred to as Captain before, nodded. I was then escorted from the throne room to a large dining hall where I ate so much that they actually had to tell me to stop eating. I thought a feast meant a feast. Sure, there was music and cheering but the feasts I am used to would usually have at least one person die from over eating. Afterwards, I was escorted back to the throne room and out of the castle by Captain Arthur. It was already dark so I was shown my way to an inn. Apparently, the King is ''benevolent'' enough to promise me my own kingdom, yet will not even provide me with decent accommodation. The joke is on him, when I get my own kingdom I will take over the world. "Please don''t mind his majesty, he doesn''t care much for those that are not from his kingdom, even though you are the hero. He probably accepted your conditions just so you wouldn''t bother him in the future. He didn''t even ask your name did he?" Arthur asks. Scummy King. "Draculus Asdain, son of Balthazar and Dem..." (Drac) Wait, I shouldn''t tell him they summoned a Demon Lord should I? He might attack me right away. For once I am glad I do not look that demonic. "Deem?" (Arthur) "Nothing, I almost said my nickname. Just call me Drac" (Drac) I was lying through my teeth but luckily he didn''t notice. We arrived at a shabby inn after a few more minutes of walking. Arthur paid for a room for me for three weeks with what looked like some sort of currency. We walked up the stairs with the key from the innkeeper and entered my new home; one that I would be staying in for a while. It just had the basic necessities and the toilet was at the end of the hall. There was a half broken dresser and a bed with a stained straw mattress. "I will pick you up in the morning. You will be taught about our kingdom in the mornings, then I will personally teach you how to fight in the afternoons." Arthur left me in my inn room and I thought alone for a while. Over and over in my head, I thought of killing those soldiers over and over again as well as gouging out the eyeballs of the King. Then I realized, I had forgotten about the Demon Lord. How on earth am I meant to kill him, a Demon Lord so dreadful that I couldn''t even hold a candle to him. I don''t even have magic powers, let alone any combat prowess. Looks like I will have to be trained pretty well. I have to get stronger, so I can take over this world and no longer be a disgrace to my family. __________

Chapter 2: A dwarf? I woke up rather early. Demon lords do not really need that much sleep. What with the heroes and armies constantly attacking you, you do learn that you do not have enough time to sleep. Besides, quite a lot of demon lords have their castles built on top of an active volcano which are noisy, often shake and fairly bright. Stupid as it may sound, it is a natural defense but it does mean that demon lords, at least in my world, have evolved to need less sleep. I look out of the inn room window to see the sun slightly higher than sunrise. I don''t know the current season so I can only guess it is from 7:00 am to 9:00 am. It sort of seems like Arthur forgot me. That is what it seems like but then there is a loud bang at the door. "Time for your lessons Drac" (Arthur) I open the door and leave with Arthur and we start heading to the castle and no, I have no change of clothes. Once again, scummy King. Even though it is light, it is still fairly cold. The worse thing for a demon lord who lived on a volcano. My guess was that it was Winter which meant that I woke up later than I thought. For a Captain, Arthur isn''t very punctual. Once we got to the castle, I could inspect it. In the dark, it did not seem that good but now, it looked better than my own. Of course, nothing would compare to the black walls and tapestries made from human hair; and there were no corpses lying around, but it still seemed much better than mine. It seemed like the King had spent an enormous sum of money on his castle. As soon as we go through the main entrance, we head right and up a spiral staircase to a large library. Once again, I was rather concerned with the king. There were little to no books, meaning that the King doesn''t care for knowledge. Most castles have at least one great library. Even mine had one, even if they were stolen by my ancestors. "Sit down and wait for the librarian. I will be back to get you some lunch, then we will train" (Arthur) Without letting me say anything, Arthur left the rather disappointing library and I sat there waiting. No one came after a while so I decided to get out some books on my own and read them. I picked out out three interesting looking books: The History of Golrend, The onslaught of the Demon Lord, Currency for children. The History of Golrend basically summarized the kingdom''s history. The kingdom I was summoned to is called Golrend. In the past, demon lords have threatened the land and have attacked it. Each time though, heroes stopped it. The most recent hero, Aaron, stopped the demon lord and founded his own kingdom and he called it Golrend. The current King is one of his descendants. The nobles in the kingdom all descend from people who helped Aaron in his journey like his companions. This kind of plays to my advantage. When I have my own kingdom, I can bring Golrend down from underneath the King''s feet by corrupting the nobles and leading a rebellion. The onslaught of the Demon Lord made me cry. It is the oldest of the three books and tells how a past demon lord wiped out 90% of the human population. The guy I will have to beat is supposed to be at least twice as powerful. The last book, Currency for Children, was the most informing. Apparently, this world does not deal in souls. Instead, it deals with coinage. pfff undeveloped. Copper is the lowest form of currency. 50 copper for a silver coin. 100 silver for a gold. To put that in perspective, the inn room that Arthur paid for me cost 20 copper per night and I wasn''t even provided food. So 8 silver 20 copper for three weeks. It was fairly run down and I... wait, I didn''t have breakfast at all. Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. As if my stomach realized at the same time, it growled rather loudly. At the same time, a pile of books moved. A rather short creature emerged from it. At first I thought it was a child but it was strangely wrinkled and had grey hair. Sure, in my world we have races other than humans but I hadn''t seen any in this world so I guessed there weren''t any. "A... dwarf?" (Drac) "Stupid human, I''m a halfling obviously. Anyway, what are you doing trespassing in my library?" (Wrinkly halfling librarian) "Umm..." (Drac) "Oh that''s right, I have to teach an oaf about Golrend." (Wrinkly halfling librarian) Wow. First he calls me stupid. Then he accuses me of trespassing and now, he interrupts me. "Well, what are you waiting for, follow me." (Asshole halfling librarian) He beckons at me like one would towards an ignorant child. Annoyed, I follow him and we enter a passageway that I had no idea was there. It had been previously been blocked off by a halfling that pisses me off, sleeping in a pile of books. Not on one, but in one. It leads to a room that is slightly bigger than the previous one. Looks like the King cared about books more than I thought, if only slightly. The room had books and scrolls. The halfling pulls out a large-ish scroll and unravels it. It seemed to be a map. "This continent is called Acronia..." (librarian halfling)

Author note: Sorry this chapter is a bit boring. I wanted to include quite a bit about what happens in the library. Also, just to let you guys know, I will have to release tomorrows chapter in the afternoon GMT and will try to get it up around 15:00, maybe earlier. I have something important to do tomorrow morning and will hopefully be back at lunchtime and finish the chapter that I have already half written. I hope you look forward to it. Extra: This morning I noticed that my first chapter had been approved and it had 100+ views on it and with my second chapter out, I have 640+ views all together. Thank you for reading this novel. I honestly thought at best I would get 10 views in a week. Thank you so much for taking the time to read it. I know each chapter is short but I also know that for some it can be easier to read little bits at a time. I will probably get each chapter out daily so per week, I should be giving you about 6300 words which is more and less than other authors. I personally prefer this way as I can get you guys'' feedback quicker and improve my work faster than if I did large chapters weekly. Once again, thank you. Chapter 3: So now I know where I actually am Author note: I decided to release the chapter earlier than 15:00 GMT. The thing I had to do in the morning took less time than expected so here it is. Also, this chapter contains less speech and more description. Just wondering whether you guys prefer this or not. I will probably do a chapter like this every so often. _________ "This continent is called Acronia, the home of our ancestors and theirs'' before that." (librarian halfling) I was fairly shocked with the scale of the world I was in. There were 8 different countries, each separated by thick lines which I guessed were the borders. Each country seemed fairly large. There was a scale in the corner which showed that 1 cm was about 1,000 kilometers with the smallest country about half a metre wide. As I was inspecting the map... "Well, study hard. You have 15 minutes left until the Captain picks you up for lunch then training. Now if you''ll excuse me, I''m going back to sleeping. Don''t interrupt me rudely like you did earlier" (librarian halfling) "Eh?!" (Drac) The librarian walked over to a pile of books in a corner, then buried himself in it. That lazy bastard, he was supposed to teach me. I should be used to how the people from this world treat me by now but it still annoys me. When I conquer the world, after the King, he will be the second person that I will have hung by their own entrails. Back to the map now. Like I said, there were 8 countries. Each of the countries have a name written on them, followed by the race that inhabits it and lastly a picture of the race. In the Northernmost part of the map, there was a country with many contour lines on. When I say many, I mean many. It looked like there must be a frikking huge mountain there. The words across the country said: Big mountain, Avians, then the picture of an avian. I don''t know what was more shocking; this world''s naming sense or how anticlimactic I found avians to look. As soon as I saw the word avian, I thought it would be a man with wings. Not a normal looking man with bird legs. Yes, that''s right. Avians are normal people, speak normally, do normal things but they live in a place which they clearly aren''t evolved well for. Luckily that was the only disappointing race. The rest were elves living in the Country of the Great Forest; Humans living in the Kingdom of Golrend; Dwarves living in a mountain range called the Iron Mantle; beastmen living in the Great Jungle; mer-people living in the Sea of Prosperity; orcs living in the Plains of Disembowelment and demons living in the Scorched lands of Ash. I decided to mentally map out the continent. In the centre is the Kingdom of Golrend. South is the Great Jungle. In the West are the Plains of Disembowelment. Just East of Golrend is the Sea of Prosperity which is followed by the Scorched lands of Ash. North is the Iron Mantle and I guess one would have to go through that mountain range to get to Big Mountain. (I kind of wanted to add a map here but I am not all that good at drawing ones so I will leave it to your imagination) As I was memorizing the map, Arthur came in. "Drac, it''s lunch time." (Arthur) If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. I can''t believe he is only punctual when it involves food. He arrived exactly 15 minutes after that lazy ass said he would. I thought that he would arrive late so I didn''t have time to work out how I can use the continent''s geography to an advantage or find out which country I should conquer first. (of course it''s for after I defeat the demon lord and with an army) I leave the library with Arthur without putting the map away. My revenge against the halfling has only just started. We do go to the hall which the feast was previously held in. I personally wouldn''t have put it past the King that he makes me eat in an inn or the servants'' quarters. Wait, I spoke too soon. The banquet hall is on the way to the servant quarters. We arrive the servants'' quarters and eat with the servants. Arthur and I had a slightly better meal than them. The chef actually decided to treat me like a hero. Shocking right? The servants eat some bread and jam, washed down by a pint of beer. Arthur and I are given some bread and meat, followed by some jell dessert. After the meal, I decided to thank the chef. Un-demon lord like I know but he was the first person I met who didn''t piss me off immediately. Afterwards, we leave towards the so called outdoor training area. When we get there, I notice the two soldiers from when I first got summoned, sparring against each other. I would say weak because the undead guards from my old castle were stronger but I refrain from doing so. I can''t really comment when I am alone and weak. I thought we were going to start training right away but instead, we go indoors into a small barrack. "We use this to identify people as well as see their strength. Everyone has one, from the King to the citizens. Of course, the different metals represent a person status. Gold nobility, silver upper class and bronze everyone else." (Arthur) He throws at me a cheap looking bronze amulet. At least there was no amulet worse than bronze. I would have probably got one if there was one, knowing this world. "Say stats" (Arthur) "Stats..." (Drac) A box appears in my vision.
PREVIOUS CHAPTERBack to Main PageNEXT CHAPTER
________ Author note: Any guesses to see what stats Drac has? I did give a clue in my description and the first chapter. Also, I don''t really know whether the quality of my chapters is dropping or improving, please give your opinions below and hopefully continue to read my work. As I have said before, I will be releasing this series daily. I look forward to reading your responses. Reading every single one of them for chapter 1 and 2 made me ecstatic, even though there weren''t that many lol. Chapter 4: Luck OP?... or not Author note: Hope you like my fourth chapter. It took me a while to get the table of stats to look decent. I will probably place the same stat table at the bottom of every page just so you can know how much stronger Drac gets per chapter. Thanks for reading. _________ "Stats..." (Drac) A box appears in the middle of my vision.

"By the way, most humans start off with 10 in each stat." (Arthur) Wow, I knew I was only slightly stronger than a normal human but by 1 strength wow. Also, why is my luck so high? I thought it would be low as I was unlucky enough to be summoned to another world, away from the safety as the world already conquered by my parents. I kind of understand wisdom though. I am planning to conquer this world so I have to be wise. "So, what are you stats?" (Arthur) "Pretty much average but I do have a couple of interesting skills" (Drac) "Good, I would have chucked you out of here if you didn''t. Still, average stats are a bit disappointing. Anyway, choose your weapon." (Arthur) Inside the barracks on one wall, practice weapons are mounted. There are all kind of weapons, from pole arms to daggers. All are wooden. Considering the pros and cons of some, I choose a scimitar. Yes, I know, swords would be easier but I want to be able to parry more easily. A curved edge should allow me to do that more easily. A box appears in the corner of my vision.
Class chosen. Foreign warrior: A warrior using a weapon of unknown origins. It does not seem to originate from any known area of Golrend
"Oh, you chose that thing." (Arthur) Arthur looked slightly disgusted at me. I guess a long sword or a pike would have been choices that he would have preferred me to pick, both typical of a soldier. "Do you want to use a shield as well?" (judgmental Arthur) "Might as well." (Drac) I walk over to another wall that is lined with many different types of shields. The shields are metal (my guess steel) because they are judged not as dangerous as their weapon counterparts. There is a range from great shields to rather small shields. I choose a small kite shield that doesn''t have to be held. It straps to my arm fairly well. Arthur chucks me some leather armor. Some braces, a breastplate and shin guards. I wear them. "Let''s spar to find out if you have any prior experience fighting." (Arthur) Arthur walks past me and out of the small barrack with a creepy smile on his face. Something tells me he will enjoy beating me down. It will probably be a one way beat down. A soldier Captain fighting the equivalent of a civilian. I follow Arthur out of the barrack and out onto the outdoor training area. Giving my scimitar to diagonal crossing swipes, I get ready for the imminent pummeling. My enemy, Arthur is wearing decent armor. It''s purple so my guess is it is this world''s equivalent of mythril. He his holding a wooden long sword in his right hand which he looks fairly competent in using. In his left is a metal great shield which he looks like he can move as easily as I can move my small kite. I concentrate, more than I have ever concentrated in my entire life, only seeing the very start of his actions. If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. I wake up on the ground of the training area, covered in cold water, with Arthur standing above me holding a bucket. Damn bastard is stronger than I had originally thought. The fight was over so quickly. Arthur suddenly dashed forward, lunging his sword faster than anyone I had ever seen. I had jumped out of the way, hitting my head on the ground and knocking myself out. Sure, I did knock myself out but if the fight continued I can say without a doubt that it would have ended the same way. With me having lost. "You... actually managed to dodge my attack." (Arthur) Was it really that shocking? Undoubtedly, the only reason I managed to dodge was my ridiculously high luck stat. "Guess you must be a little competent. Let''s head out of the city to fight some actual monsters." (Arthur) Great, I managed to dodge due to luck but because of that, I am being overestimated. Someone 1 strength stat stronger than a regular civilian will have to fight monsters that only adventurers and soldiers can defeat. While I was still on the floor, Arthur chucks at me the metal counterpart of the scimitar. Guess I will have to fight some monsters then. We leave the training area and head through the city. It seems rather busy. I have never really seen it like this. Being early afternoon, there are many stalls around a people swarming them. A thought crosses my mind. It would be fun to everyone running and screaming as they are being slaughtered. A demonic smile appears on my face. Confused... "Never seen a market before?" (Arthur) "Nope." (Drac) I don''t want to be suspicious so I quickly killed the conversation. Arthur probably noticed how I was looking at everyone. We arrived at the city gate after about 30 minutes of walking and left through them. What greeted me was a large green field with a river and forest in the distance. Oh, and of course a small slime jumping on my face... _______

______ Author note: I hope you liked my 4th chapter. I will release the 5th tomorrow. Thank you for reading my story so far. Chapter 5: Harsh big brother So, what would you do if you woke up with what seemed to be slime crap all over your face, slimes covering the majority of you body and a man standing over you laughing, almost mocking you? With extreme amounts of effort and willpower, I managed to shake off all of the slimes from my body and stand up, only to be surrounded by them with no room to escape. Luckily it seems I lost no health. There 8 of them, all different colors. Red, blue, purple, orange, purple, turquoise, brown and the one that had jumped on my face, green. Each of them were about 45 cm in diameter (1 and a half feet). In the corner of my vision was a box.
Title gained
Slime nii-san: The youngest and weakest of the slimes recognize you as their older brother and will follow your orders. This is the result of the passive: Demonic aura (weak). Warning, you are not strong enough for them to treat you as their dark lord. Therefore, they will follow any stronger slimes in the vicinity instead.
As if it saw my notification, a rather large red slime bounces towards me and Arthur. Immediately, all the slimes, except for the original green one, bounced towards what I could only assume as a stronger slime and were absorbed. Great, just like my undead fish at home, they committed suicide when they realized I was their master. Only then, did I realize that there was another notification.
Due to absorbing some of the slime''s ''natural'' essence, it has become your familiar
"Wait, I swallowed some of its shi-?!" (Drac) Before I could finish my sentence, the large, red slime rammed its body into my side, causing me to be blown 2 meters away.
-46 hp. Status effect added: Slimy. Your mobility is cut as you will find it hard to move without slipping.
Arthur just stood there laughing. "Actually fight the slime Drac." (Arthur) Staring daggers at Arthur, I struggled to my feet. As I was trying to take a fighting stance and draw my scimitar, I almost slipped over twice. The red slime warily slid its way towards me, unwilling any sudden movements. The only thing that ruined the epicness of my first battle was the fact that my new familiar was slowly slithering up my leg, then my back and onto my shoulder. A sudden idea comes into my mind. I charge forward, while covered in goo, quickly stopping my movement one meter away. Sliding the rest of the distance I put one front in front of the other and twist it slightly to the left. Using my front foot to turn me and sticking my scimitar out to my right, I slide past the large slime while easily cutting through its side. I turn my head around to see the slime, only to notice that the there was no cut where the blade went through. A sudden pain went through my right arm.
-10 hp
One of the smaller slimes from earlier, the purple one was on it and slithering towards my face. I bash it off with my shield, only to spin out of control, slipping and crushing the slime underneath me. I get up once again, only to see purple mush where there used to be an enemy. Blunt attacks work it seems. Great. My familiar jumps off of me an does something. I guess you would call it eating. Yeah, it was eating its fallen brother. Seems like it inherited an aspect from its master. With newly found respect for the green slime, I repeat the method again and again. Sliding past the large slime, cleaving through its body. This time however, I shield bash the small slimes created before they have a chance at attacking me. The last slime left, an extremely small red one rippled in fear, only to be pounced upon by Greeny. I had named it Greeny halfway through the battle. Not a very evil sounding name but it would do. Arthur was just staring at me blankly. Maybe I looked suspicious during the battle. "So that''s a familiar." (Arthur) He looked over to Greeny, who was hoovering up the bodies of his own kind, awestruck. "Never seen one before?" (Drac) "Only heard about them in legends. Apparently our kingdom founder, Aaron had a dragon as a familiar. Even though its just a slime, it''s still impressive." (Arthur) While Arthur was looking at me in amazement... "Stats" (Drac)

You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story. After inspecting my new stats, Arthur seemed to have recovered. He chucked at me a health potion which I caught then downed quickly, recovering 66 Health. I continued to hunt slimes until sunset while Arthur watched from a small distance. I used the same tactic and managed to kill 3 more large slimes. Apparently they were fairly rare and I was ''lucky'' to encounter a miniboss enemy 4 times in that day. The rest of the slimes I encountered were small ones that would follow me around. I didn''t want them to fuel a large slime so I slaughtered all of them. It thought it was almost like a genocide which made me smile. Their remains were fed to Greeny and both of us managed to level up again. Once I stopped hunting, both Arthur and I returned into town. People were giving me weird looks because I was covered in slime and had a slime on my shoulder. Other than that though, the rest of the day was uneventful. I washed, ate, then went to sleep in the inn but as Arthur saw me off for the night, I could have sworn his attitude towards me was slightly different. It was slightly filled with respect. Maybe I won''t torture him as much when I inevitably kill and enslave everyone in Golrend. __________

__________ Author note: Sorry for the release at a later time than yesterday. It took quite a long time to change the stat table completely. An A4 page of code. Hope you enjoyed the chapter. Also, depending on some things, I might have to release chapter 6 later tonight, early tomorrow morning or evening GMT. Personal stuff means I won''t be able to go on my computer. Also, thanks for over 2000 views spread out on my first 4 chapters. I really didn''t think I would get many views. Chapter 6: Future plans? ... nope Author note: Sorry about releasing this chapter a bit after 7:00 GMT. I did say 5:00 - 7:00 because I thought I would get back home and on the computer to write and 5 ish. Turns out I got back at 6:30. So much for that plan. Anyways, that''s why it''s a tad delayed. Tomorrow I don''t have to do anything so the next chapter will probably be released at around 2:00 PM GMT like usual. Anyway, hope you enjoy reading. _________ The routine continued for 5 more days. Being taught (self study. damn that halfling) in the mornings in the library and training or slime hunting in the afternoon. Annoyingly, I couldn''t spar against the aggressive soldiers from the first day, I could only go against Arthur. Maybe that was a good thing, I haven''t seen them fight much so its difficult to gauge their strength. I want to be a lot stronger when I do fight them, maybe denting their armor with my wooden scimitar, crushing skin, fat, muscle and bone underneath the surface. I would love to see their faces if I managed to do that. They would probably fall on the floor, howling in pain. First, I have to raise my strength though. A good thing about these last 5 days is that Arthur doesn''t treat me as a hassle and is actual on time in the mornings now. Also, I managed to last 7 seconds against him in a spar (personal record). So, through my efforts in the first week of arriving in this world, I have managed to level to level 7 according to my amulet. (I forgot to explain before so I will explain now. Each time you level in this world, 5 stat points are awarded to the stats you used to level. Your health raises 10 per level and your mana increases by 10 per point in intelligence. This way, mages who study and not fight would still raise the power of spells they can use, due to having mana, while warriors who often fight to train would raise their health often. You can get exp when reading so mages are squishy. Also, if I add a stat that you don''t think should have been added, comment below before the next chapter is up so I can correct it and not carry over my mistake. e.g. gave him 6 points when he leveled instead of 5. Time to copy and paste my wall of code)

(I didn''t give him any extra wisdom. Drac re-used the same tactic over and over again) I doubt I could get this strong so quickly in my old world. I''m going to have to get used to these new world physics that play to my advantage. Something weird happened at the start of the second week. The librarian actually decided to teach me something. Or at least I think so. He''s standing next to an open world map on a desk instead of sleeping in a pile of books like usual. "Come here, boy" (halfling librarian) I walk towards him and the map, only the map isn''t like the one I previously saw. Unlike the last one, there are dots in 7 of the 8 countries. The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings. "These are the 7 great dungeons that have prepared heroes for fighting the demon lord for the past 100,000 years. Each time a new demon lord appeared, each successful hero has gone through the dungeons. The ones that didn''t, lets just say that ages of darkness and slavery came as a result. The dungeons are magically infused by the gods, changing the difficulty of each dungeon in proportion to the strength of the demon lord. The last person to have conquered each dungeon was the founder of Golrend. You will have to conquer all 7 dungeons. The last 6 heroes died horrible deaths in the first one. That''s how we know that this time, the demon lord''s strength is greater than anything before." (halfling librarian) "6? Does that mean there were 6 recent ages of darkness?" (Drac) "No, they all died fairly recently, in a range of a month of each other, when they went to the first dungeon. Each time, we one died, we immediately summoned another hero." (halfling librarian) So that''s why no one really liked me. Those bastards all thought I would die and why the King hasn''t spent much money on them. Just means they will die worse deaths than before if they had treated me nicely. "When will I have to go to the first dungeon?" (Drac) "We only informed you last minute so you couldn''t run away like the last hero. It was a hassle catching him. You are going to the Great Labyrinth of Golrend right now." (halfling librarian) "Eh?! I''m not strong enough yet!" (Drac) Without warning, a large blunt force hit me in the back of my head, knocking me unconscious. _________

__________ Author note: Thanks for reading the chapter and once again, sorry for the delay. Also, chapter 5 was inspired by Nasir05''s comment on chapter 2. I''m sorry I forgot to give credit last chapter. Remember, I read all comments and reply to the ones that have questions in them, or suggestions. Another thing, sorry that this one is a bit shorter than the others. I wanted to send him to the first dungeon quickly but I also had to release this chapter asap as I was late. Chapter 7: Painful memories Author note: Thanks for reading so far and happy Easter. I hope you enjoy this chapter. I kind of wanted to do an Easter themed chapter but then I kind of left it on a cliff hanger last chapter so I can''t. If, somehow I get to release another 365 chapters of this I might release an Easter themed one lol. This is a flashback chapter. While I think of ideas for the dungeon, I decided to do a bit of Drac''s background. _________ Great, scumbags the lot of them. I appeared to be inside of my castle. I could tell because unlike Golrend, there was the stench of death. Guess this is a dream. Looking down on my body I see a smaller body. "What do we do with him then?! He wasn''t born with any of either of our powers!" (male voice) "We just have to train him then. Make him stronger!" (female voice) "You know we don''t have that sort of time." (male voice) From inside the other room I heard the shouts of my parents. Great, I had to dream about this again. It''s been years since this happened. From inside the other room, I heard doors swinging open. "My lord, the heroes are approaching!" (???) "Ready our armor. We have to meet them in battle so they don''t reach here and find Draculus." (father) "Yes sir!" (???) The area around me changes. I am out on a balcony of the castle, overlooking a battlefield. Humans and demons fighting against each other and in the thick of it, my father and mother are fighting against a group of people. I hate this part. For what seems like hours, the battle rages on. Screams can be heard. There are heavy casualties on both sides. In the middle, father and mother were still fighting those same people. Damn heroes. I can''t control my body. I started running through the castle as fast as possible to the exit. Past guards, past maids, past families who had taken refuge. "Young master! Come back!" (all who I ran past) They would all shout the same thing, yet no one would try to stop me, knowing I was running towards my parents. I could hear the battle from outside. Screams, metal hitting metal, metal going through flesh. I could hear all of it. Everything was fresh in my mind. I forgot this was just a dream. I took control of my body but kept running in the same direction I had previously done. When I reached the gate, I saw mountains of bodies. There was a large clearing in amongst the fighting, where a much more catastrophic battle was taking place. Mana of all sorts was fighting against each other. Mother''s red spells against the 5 magician heroes'' blue. To the side, father was fighting with his sword against 3 hero swordsmen. I continued to run towards them while screaming... "Mother! Father!" (young Drac) As I got closer to the battlefield, I could see more details. Both parties were injured. There also seemed to be a couple dead heroes on the ground. Covering the swordsmen heroes were occasional gashes. None were deep enough to be life threatening. When I looked at father however, what I saw was worse. He was covered in large gashes and was missing an arm. Mother also looked exhausted. I reached the edge of the battle and headed towards the clearing. The scorched volcano floor was now dyed blood red because of the fighting. I ran in between the humans and demons. The demons left me alone because they knew who I was. The humans on the other hand left me alone because I looked like a human child. Blood from others sprayed over me which made me gag slightly but I still continued to run. Occasionally, I would see corpses with their entrails hanging out or missing limbs but that did not deter me. Even though I was out of breath and scared, I continued to run to where I believed my parents were. I arrived at a clearing in the sea of bodies. I saw my mother and father back to back. Both of them were still fighting. Father with his sword. Mother with her magic. There were 3 more dead heroes on the floor. 1 was a swordsmen, the other two were mages. The battle continued and I could only watch, unable to interfere because I was too weak. More wounds were appearing on both of my parents until they finally fell to the ground. The heroes cheered while I ran towards them. "MOTHER! FATHER!" (young Drac) I reached both of them and hugged them. "What... are... you... doing here. R-run Draculus." (father) "No! I won''t leave you!" (young Drac) Realizing that I was their son made the heroes approach us with weapons drawn. "Run. Survive. Get stronger and take revenge." (father) Those were the last words I heard from my father before the light left both his and mother''s eyes. I screamed as loud as I could. I stood up and turned towards the heroes. The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation. "YOU DID THIS! YOU KILLED THEM!" (young Drac)
Passive skill temporarily unlocked. Demonic powers activated. Automatic pilot activated.
The dream ended. I regained consciousness a couple of times, only to find myself tied up in what seemed like a carriage and knocked out again. If I hadn''t leveled up I would of probably died of health loss. Eventually, I woke up covered in bruises and felt stiff. I was inside what seemed to be a large cave. I could the entrance which was covered with a closed iron gate. When I looked deeper inside the cave I could see ruins. The entrance to Golrend''s great Labyrinth. Great. _________

__________ Author note: Thanks for reading. Was this chapter gripping? I tried to make it fast paced and exciting. I hope it worked. It''s about the same length as my other chapters but it may seem shorter because of this. Hope you enjoyed. Also, I got over 1000 views on my first and second chapters. Thanks a lot. This was my first try at writing something and I didn''t believe it would go well. I am really happy it was well received. Chapter 8: Bloody big maze Author note: Thanks for reading up to chapter 8. I''m not really sure what to say other than I am amazed this piece of work was well received. I would like to thank you all again. I know in pretty much every author note I end up thanking you but that''s because I really appreciate you guys. I pretty much feed off of your comments. Each and every one of them makes me ecstatic because it reinforces the idea that people are actually reading this for fun. Now, here is the first great dungeon of the series. Also, these next couple chapters will most likely be Drac thinking to himself or description purely because there will be most likely no one to talk to. ___________ Great, I was not only forced to come to a place where I will surely die but also had to go through that nightmare I haven''t had in a while. I walked over towards the entrance to the cave. Crap, my body aches quite a bit. I inspected the metal gate that was obstructing my path. Looks like they weren''t stupid enough to leave it unlocked. In fact, it had multiple locks and thick chains covering it. Even if I tried I doubt I had enough strength or technique to cut through them with my scimitar. Looks like the only way to get out is to get this dungeon over with. I walked towards the ruins that were the entrance to the labyrinth. There was one large entrance with stairs going down. Lining it was some sort of ornate arch which I could only guess was covered by an ancient language. Surprisingly though, carved onto a large stone next to the entrance was a map which had an arrow on it saying ''You are here''. Unfortunately, the map was extremely large. By extremely large I mean extremely. The thing was at least 5 x 5 metres and the paths were only a couple centimetres thick. If I don''t memorize this it could take months, even years to find my way out of the labyrinth. I would probably starve to death before I get get anywhere close to the exit. Then again, there could be monsters that I could probably eat. Then I realised, there wasn''t an exit marked on the map. Another great thing. Yay. Underneath the map there was writing. "Hunt those who would hunt you. Kill those who try to kill you. Take everything they own and the path shall become clear." (Drac) Okay, I could probably take it as one of two ways. In a literal meaning: Kill monsters in the labyrinth. Find maps on them. Or another way: Because it says to take everything they own, maybe they have something like a nest or lair that could be an exit. Either way I am probably going to have to face very strong enemies because previous heroes have died in here. I doubt I will gain anything from waiting here. Time to set out. "Summon Familiar!" (Drac) Greeny, which I had previously left in the inn appeared before me in a flash of light, then bounced onto my shoulder. I then approached the stairs and walked down them. I had gotten used to Greeny staying on my shoulder now. Of course he seemed to occasionally leave slime on it but it didn''t exactly affect me in any way. I could also grab it and use it as a projectile if I really want to, throw it on the floor to make myself or enemies slide. It was fairly strange. There were no obvious light sources around me but as I walked down into the labyrinth, it did not grow dark. Maybe the walls were made of some sort of luminescent material. It didn''t take long before I reached the bottom of the stairs. There was a crossroad immediately. I could go forward, left or right. Each seemed to lead to clearly different locations, maybe they wouldn''t even meet up with each other. On the floor, there were the words ''Choose your path wisely. Each way presents a different challenge which you will have to face. In each area will be a guardian that you will have to defeat''. Well at least that''s good. No matter which way I choose, I will be equally fucked, having to defeat a strong guardian. I decided to go left. Doesn''t really matter which path I take first. As I continued to walk down the path, the walls changed colour. From regular grey stone, they turned into a green. Looks like what I have to kill has something to do with nature. I continued to walk but could not help to compare it to a labyrinth I owned in my old world. I had spread rumours that a great weapon that could defeat me lied at the end of it. Of course I could get killed by anything but the new generation of heroes didn''t know that. So, they would enter the maze, only to get killed again and again and again. I was left in peace after there were no heroes left. Anyway, there was only one path for a while. It twisted and turned but it was still one path. Eventually, I hit a crossroad. I could carry on walking or turn right. I headed right. I continued to find crossroads and quickly found myself lost. That''s what I get for half-assing memorizing that map. I thought I had walked for an hour or two but annoyingly, I found myself at the start. I could tell because the stone turned grey again and I ended up at the crossroad with the stairs. A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation. I angrily turned around and started running back. I wasted hours and it all came to nothing. I didn''t even find the guardi.... I had found myself somehow at a different place. Must be a magical labyrinth. It came out to a slight opening. There were eggs everywhere and in the middle there was a women. No, a snake. No, a gorgon. Fuck me. "Hisssss!" (gorgon) I immediately turned tail and started running, only to be chased by it. I turned at a crossroad and chucked slime on the floor. The gorgon could not turn and only slid away before I heard a crash and an angrier hiss. Looks like I pissed of a mythical creature. ___________

____________ Author note: Hope you enjoyed chapter 8. What will happen next I wonder? Even I haven''t thought about that lol. I will leave that for me to figure out tomorrow. Anyway, thank you for reading. Chapter 9: First epic battle, wait... not so epic How does one defeat a gorgon? They aren''t exactly as weak as you think. The easiest way to defeat them is to reflect their petrification but mirrors don''t simply cut it. If they did, I would reflect it with my scimitar and not be running for my life right now. You actually need something that reflects magic which I don''t have. Without looking at her eyes, I am going to have to somehow cut it down with my extremely low combat experience and level. Yay. I don''t think Greeny can be petrified though. He doesn''t exactly have eyes. That would just be creepy. Good, surprisingly I could calmly form a plan while being chased by a monster that wants to make me into a garden ornament. First though I need to get to an open area where I can actually fight effectively. Looks like her nest will do. Time for some juking. I stopped running and turned around, immediately sprinting towards her, careful enough to not look at her eyes. It''s actually fairly slow for what I assume to be a fairly strong monster. My guess is that its only tricky attack is its petrification. The gorgon approaches me and tries to swing its arms at me. They have claws on the end. Better not let them hit me. Her swinging arms are fairly slow though when compared to Arthur swinging his sword so I can dodge easily. That sparring helped me fairly well. I circle around it, continuing to dodge its slow arm swings and get to the other side of it. Without thinking, I immediately run towards where the nest was. After about a minute I make it back. Time to implement my plan if I can while panting heavily. I name this plan: Strike from behind. Of course that''s code for take hostages but I want it to sound at least a bit cool. The gorgon enters the nest, only to find me with my scimitar around a pile of edge. Instead of acting how I wanted it to act, it tried to crush me and the eggs together It used its tail as a spring to launch itself up high but only crushed the eggs. I did not care to wait and be killed. Crap, my plan failed.
For failing a plan -1 wisdom
Screw you system. Quick. Look around for anything in the circular room I can use. There''s not really anything I can use. I''m gonna have to bout it out with an enemy god knows how many levels above me. Great. Before, I could even get into a fighting stance, I flew across the room and into a wall. Ouch. The gorgon had used its tail to whip me. I had blocked it with my shield (although accidentally) as well and it still hurts like hell.
-150 health. Current health 10/160. Retreat advised
Thanks for the great advice amulet. Its not like there''s a fucking gorgon blocking my only way out. I get up off the floor. Nothing seems to be broken, it just hurts a shit ton.

I got hit by lightning multiple times activated for .... 3 seconds
This world loves to fuck me over doesn''t it. Oh well, time to cheese this mother fucker. I ran straight at it and chucked Greeny right at where I believed the gorgon''s face was. I had to guess because I couldn''t look there but I managed to hit it. Greeny immediately caught on what I was trying to do. A telepathic bond between familiar and master? Anyway, he squeezed himself into the gorgon''s eye sockets and it started to thrash about until its eyes popped out. I grinned, part 1 of plan worked. I can''t be paralysed now and can aim for its head. I thrashed around for a while then stopped. Greeny jumped out of where the gorgon''s eyes used to be and onto my shoulder. The rest of the fight was fairly simple. I think it had been knocked out from pain as it fell on the floor and allowed me to poke its brain through her eye sockets with the very tip of my scimitar. Its did little damage compared to the sharp edge of the scimitar but any attack directly to the brain should be damaging. Anyway, I did that repeatedly until there was nothing left inside the gorgon''s head but mush. I counted it as dead by that point.

I still need to recover my health and rest for a bit don''t I? I wouldn''t mind eating some egg and snake. I would prefer if they weren''t raw but I could use the extra protein. I ate some eggs and some of the gorgon, fed some to Greeny, then proceeded to make a sack out of the snakeskin to hold some extra food, then fell asleep in a newly acquired snakeskin sleeping bag, exhausted. __________ Author note: I think I updated the stat table properly. Hope you enjoyed chapter 9. Sorry that its a bit later that 2:00. Took a bit longer to write and think of knew skills than I thought it would. Naming that invincible skill took a bit longer than I thought. Is the skill op? Please write in the comments. I say this because I don''t think it is. He''s invincible (cannot die) but it doesn''t mean he takes 0 damage. Also, the random time thing makes a bit interesting and would make it useless in most situations such as this gorgon fight where it ended up being 3 sec long. Chapter 10: I didnt steal a golden idol so why? I woke up. I''m not sure how much time I''ve been asleep for. I have to wait until I can use hero''s shout again so I should probably formulate a plan on how to kill the next guardians. There''s about an 80% chance that one of them is a minotaur. That''s usually the case in labyrinths. So, minotaurs are more often than not top heavy. I could use Greeny to trip him up and then try and kill him, or I could get him to charge and get his horns stuck in the wall. Either way, the fight should be fairly easy. The problem is, what is the 3rd guardian going to be? It will be mythical. Whatever it is I know it will be fast. Minotaurs are heavily focused around strength, the gorgon used petrification magic and intelligence, so the last guardian should be focused on speed and agility. I try and use slime on it but it would probably easily dodge. My only hope is to pick the minotaur''s path, kill it and level up enough to stand a chance. I eat more raw eggs and snake before searching the nest. There could be something hidden, maybe a prize of some sort. I look around for an hour or and managed to find a coin. Only a coin with a gorgon head on. I guess I will keep it as a memento.
Hero''s shout is now usable
Look''s like its sunrise as well. I must have fought the gorgon at night. Anyway, time to head off. I turn to walk away but Greeny bounces off my shoulder and slides towards the corpse of the gorgon. It''s almost as if he is trying to tell me something. I walk towards the corpse where Greeny is, except it looks like he has the gorgon''s eyes inside of him. Creepy as fuck. They were slowly absorbed and another box pops up in front of me.

(I was going to evolve him before you said Greeny would evolve Nasir. You still guessed it though. I''m not sure whether I should say good job or I should be sad that it was predictable) Greeny also changed colour slightly. He turned pale green. That''s a fairly useful ability. Still, I won''t be able to make enemies slide any more. They will just trip over their petrified feet. Greeny bounced back onto my shoulder and we left the nest. Instead of the maze we had to go through the first time, we immediately arrived at the grey cross road with the stairs at the start. I''ve been left so I could go right or forwards. Right it is. The stone changes colour again. This time, from grey to blue. I carry on walking in a straight line until I reach a crossroads. It doesn''t really matter which way I go anyway, its a magic labyrinth, so I might as well keep walking forwa... As I try to walk forward, blades come out of the ceiling and swing like a pendulum. Left it is then. I''m not too particularly keen on traps. The pathway starts to slope downwards. Even so, I continued on walking until I stepped on a piece of floor that goes down a bit. Immediately, I heard some kind of mechanical sound before an earlier wall lifted up and out came a boulder. Fuck me. I started running. The rolling sound kept getting louder as I ran, as did a theme tune that had started to play in my mind. The boulder kept getting closer and closer until it was less than a metre behind me. I should have seen thins coming as soon as the floor started sloping. It was so obvious. Anyway, I had to drop my snake skin bag of food in order to speed up. As the boulder rolled over it, you could hear the cracking of the eggs. Goodbye food. Still, it worked slightly. I started running a bit faster. Unfortunately, the boulder increased its speed as well. I didn''t want to have to do this but the boulder left me no choice. I grabbed some slime off of Greeny and coated my front in it. Gross. I then jumped on my front and started to slide. The slope started sloping more and that allowed me to accelerate faster than the boulder could. I knew that I wouldn''t help for long though. Unless the boulder gets stopped by something, I will get crushed. Damn physics. Damn heavier objects having a higher terminal velocity than lighter ones. Oh crap. The slope ends in about 100 metres and there is a pit and a path to the right just before it.. I have about 5 seconds to stop and go to the right or just fall to my death. I don''t think its possible. This is going to hurt a lot. I lined myself up so that I started sliding slightly to the right. I put my shield out in front of me and brace for impact. I am going to slam right into the right path''s wall just to the side of the pit. 3...2...1... The author''s tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. And, I think I dislocated my shoulder. Shit. I heard a crunching noise when I hit the wall. My left arm and my shield infront took the full brunt of the impact. The shield is bent so much I doubt its repairable. My arm on the other hand absolutely kills. It feels like someone has smashed it with a sledgehammer. At least I survived though. I head back up the slope and scavenge what resources I can from my snakeskin sack. At least I can still eat some scrambled egg. I also cut off a bit off of the sack and use it as a makeshift sling. I won''t be using my left arm any time soon. Things just got a bit harder. ___________

____________ Author note: Thanks for reading. Here''s what the boulder scene would kind of look like. I didn''t rip it off of Ind*ana J*nes but its a similar scene. Short boulder clip. Chapter 11: Anticlimactic battle? Author note: I''m sorry I released this chapter at a later time than usual. I usually write immediately after lunch and I made pizza, so yeah, that took a while compared to usual (by made I mean preheat the oven then stick a frozen one in. takes longer than making a sandwich). Hope you enjoy the 11th chapter of The Demon Lord becomes the hero. _____________ So, how am I going to do this? I could try and set my arm but I don''t trust myself to do that without help; or I could try and continue in this trap heaven. I could be lucky and come across the minotaur but I doubt it. My high luck doesn''t really work except for the nice skills it gives me. My future doesn''t really look promising. I am starting to see why other heroes died in here. With nothing else I can do, I continue walking down the right path next to the pit. I wonder if there are any magic traps. It is a magic labyrinth after all. I really hope I don''t come across any. If I did, I would probably die since I don''t really have anything that can block magic. A metal scimitar wouldn''t help me defend myself from a lightning bolt or pressurised water that can cut through anything. For some reason, as I keep walking, the temperature keeps on dropping. I observe my surrounding because of that. The blue walls are paler than before but that''s the only thing different. No wait, tripwire spotted. You can''t fool me you shitty maze! I jump over the tripwire.... The floor falls beneath me. A very fitting thought goes through my head as I fall: Fuck me! I land on what seems to be an ice slide. That must have been why it was getting colder. There was ice under the floor. Anyway, I slide down the ice. I seem to be sliding a lot today. The only thing is, this time I will fall down a pit head first. Yay. I fall down into the pit of ice and snow, onto my dislocated arm. and hear a cracking sound. That was not the ice, it was my bone splitting in half and going through my skin. On the bright side, my arm is no longer dislocated and I have all the ice in the world to stop swelling. On the dark side, I am in excruciating pain. I don''t have time to complain though. In front of me is an ice humanoid sitting on a throne. Found another guardian. Instead of hands and feet, it has large ice spikes. Its going to be a skating match. Ice skating isn''t really one of my strong points. I kind of lived in a place that you would never expect snow in, an active volcano with its crater with a mix of lava and ash floor. I try to get up but slip onto my ass a couple of times. After those embarrassing attempts, I finally manage to stand. The ice humanoid just stares at me. It''s gaze chilling my bones. At least I think its staring at me. It doesn''t exactly have eyes. It only makes a move when I draw my scimitar. It uses that movement as if it was a cue to move. It gets up and starts circling me. I was right in thinking this guardian would be agility based. Its circling me fairly quickly, skating around as if showing off. I see Greeny next to me. He seems perfectly fine on the ice. I guess you would be used to it if you slide around on slime all day. I possibly have an idea. Nope, didn''t work. Greeny can''t take my weight. That was my best option, using Greeny to move around. There is still snow around the edges of the pit. If I can make it there, I will be fine. I try to make a move towards it and saw a fast moment in the corner of my eye. I ducked out of reflex, only to have a spike of ice pierce the air where my head was and the guardian skating in front of me. I try to the guardian with my sword, only to hit nothing. It had already retreated and began circling me again. I have another idea now, if it''s using this tactic and tries to perform a hit and run, I can just stop its movements at that time then attack it. I''m glad I fought the gorgon first. I kick Greeny to the edge of the pit and onto the snow. He leaves a slime trail. Step 1 complete. The guardian takes this as a hostile move and goes in for the kill. I had been expecting this so I dodge again, only by a hair''s breadth. It had sped up. That doesn''t matter any more though. Its stuck. It had skated over some slime and now one of its legs was petrified and stuck to the ice floor. It starts hacking at its own leg, trying to cut it off and get back to skating. I had already planned for it. "Summon familiar!" (Drac) (Drac is able to do this although it uses all of his mana. I forgot to increase his mana count when he leveled up last time, I will fix it this time. 20 intelligence should give 200 mana, not 180.) Greeny appears in front of me. I rub my scimitar on him, getting slime onto it. Time to own. By the time I had minished, the guardian had chipped off its leg. Unable to balance properly on only one leg, it can''t skate as fast. It could skate about twice the as I could edge forward on this ice. It didn''t really matter though. It wanted to kill me as well so it went straight for me. It had a shorter range than me. Only an arm span while I had 2 and a bit. Able to meet its atrms before it could reach mine, I slashed across them. The petrification spread across them and allowed me to chip them of with my scimitar. Still, blunt weapons still damage people and I was just below my ribcage, hitting my stomach, causing me to slide back and throw up some egg. Greeny was still there though and bounced onto the guardian, petrifying him. I edge over to him and start chipping away his head. You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story. I am fairly glad the ice humanoid didn''t know the petrification was only temporary. If it had waited, it could have remained with its original speed and most likely killed me. The head is eventually chipped off. 2nd guardian killed. 1 more to go. ___________

___________ Author note: Thanks again for reading. I am going to level up Drac at the start of next chapter. I went over my usual word count of 900 and went up to 1050. I didn''t want to increase it anymore. Also, I wanted to release this chapter asap and it takes a while to think where I should distribute the stats. Chapter 12: Medical and leveling There are a couple of boxes in the corner of my vision but I ignore them for now. I need to fix my arm up as best as I can for now. It is bleeding a fair bit because the bone is sticking through. Of course I am a demon so it will clot up quicker and heal faster but that won''t do much if there is still bone outside of my body. I inspect the bone poking out. Any bystander would think that it looks painful and it is, but the ice around me seems to numb it a bit and prevent swelling. It is a clean break with no swelling. Easy to fix in theory, deathly painful to fix in reality. I have to realign the bone. Fun. I brace for pain and push it back in slowly. Of course I have to stop pushing when my arm uncontrollably spasms but I manage to do it eventually. Shit that hurt. I am sweating a lot. I have to do the rest fast. I don''t exactly want to bleed out. I don''t exactly have anything to stitch it up or stop the bleeding. I''m going to have to rely on fast clotting and an unorthodox method to hopefully survive. Human hair is actually fairly strong so I have to use that for now. I chip a shard of ice of the floor with my scimitar and whittle it down to a small pick. I then poke a hole through it with the tip of my scimitar, thread the hair and boom. Makeshift stitches. Once again I brace for pain. At least it will not hurt as much. I slowly stitch up my arm. Occasionally I have to replace the hair thread but eventually I finish. I poked holes through my skin and threaded it, criss crossing. You can kind of compare it to making clothes but its painful, you shake a bit and you don''t have to make as complex stitches. Good, my arm is fixed as much as possible now. Better get out of here first, I do not want to freeze to death after all of this. Behind the throne is a door. I notice it, open it and go through. Somehow I end up at the beginning of the labyrinth. Thanks magic. Time look at the boxes I ignored earlier.

(simplified table to only show leveling up) Good, my vitality stat went up quite a bit. I guess that is from being battered quite a bit. Anyway, I need a more food. I guess I will go back to the gorgon nest. I go down the left passageway and get more eggs and carve more snake meat off of the gorgon. It''s quite a sight now. Only the upper half of the body of the gorgon remains intact. The rest is mashed up now. Like you can do better cutting off snake meat one handed. I still won''t be able to use my arm for a while anyway. I return to the crossroads and wait for my mana and health to regenerate. I notice the inscription there is different now. It only says that I have to defeat 1 guardian now. I guess it decides on the description by using some sort of life force sensing magic. I also guess that it decides how many guardians there should be depending on how strong the demon lord is. Usually labyrinths would only have 1 and that would be a minotaur. I really hope the last guardian is a minotaur. Otherwise, I could be facing something like a troll. Trolls are pesky because of their health regeneration. I would like to say it''s a cheat but then demon lords are usually cheat characters so I would be a hypocrite. Time to head off. I have waited long enough so my health and mana have regenerated. I have a bit of a handicap with my arm in a sling but oh well. I don''t have enough food to wait for a couple weeks and I doubt the demon lord would wait that long enough anyway. I can''t really afford to spend over a fortnight in each dungeon. As I walk forward, the walls turn red and an inscription appears on the floor in front of me. ''Due to defeating the two other guardians, a direct path has been opened up to the last. Good luck future hero. Our lives rest on your shoulders.'' That inscription is probably used to guilt trip heroes into not abandoning the world to be conquered. I am beginning to hate the inhabitants of this world more and more. Time for the last fight. I enter a circular room and the entrance collapses behind me into rubble blocking the way. Looks like I can not escape. This room looks quite a bit like an arena. In the centre there are two thrones and... two minotaurs. This dungeon had to be original didn''t it. At least they are not ten feet like normal minotaurs. They only look to be around 7 feet tall. Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings. 2 guardians are dead. I thought 1 was supposed to be left, not 2 more acting as 1. Fuck the creators of this labyrinth. Traps, an instant petrification spell death and now a 2 on 1 fight. Odds on winning are pretty low. Then again they have always been. I am trapped and injured. The only thing to do is fight. Let''s begin then. ___________

___________ Author note: Thanks for reading chapter 12. Thanks FTaku for reminding me to do something with that summon familiar skill. I had planned to do something with it to lessen the mana requirement but ended up forgetting. Once again thank you for reading up till chapter 12. Just to reiterate it, I will be uploading these daily. From now on though, I will only upload at 2:00-3:00 pm GMT on the weekend. During the weekdays I will upload it at 5:00-6:00 pm GMT unless I say otherwise. I have school from now on. Nothing I can do about it. Chapter 13: Finally an epic fight scene Author note: Sorry for the slightly late release. My inner sanctum (computer room) had to be cleaned -_- __________ Let the battle begin. I kind of don''t want to use Hero''s shout straight away. I have to make those 15 seconds count. I guess the easiest way to beat them would be to petrify their eyes, taking away their sight. Time to put that plan into action. One minotaur burst forward, charging at me while the other just stood by the thrones. Is this going to be two 1 on 1 duels? That would make things easier. Immediately, I grab some slime off my shoulder throw it at the charging minotaur''s face. It throws both arms in front of itself, blocking it completely. The petrification only worked slightly, turning the minotaur''s skin to stone for less than a second before returning to normal. Great, it has magic resist. Time for a proper fight then. My first fight in this world where I didn''t use cheap tactics. I throw Greeny off to the side with the snakeskin food back. Any excess weight is not needed. The minotaur finally reaches me, immediately throwing a fist at my face. I force my centre of gravity forwards, falling and dodging the attack while swinging my scimitar above me. After that, I followed through on my weight, rolling behind the creature and slicing at its back. I had expected to cut off the minotaurs arm off but I had not even reached the bone. The minotaur''s skin and muscles are fairly tough to slice through. I might be able to go through by two handing my scimitar but I can''t exactly do that. It looks like this will be a fight of endurance. Will it bleed out before I get tired and an unable to dodge its attacks? I distance myself from the minotaur by back stepping, before it span around swinging its arm where I had previously been. I definitely do not want to get hit by that punch. With the muscle the minotaur is packing, if I take a direct hit I would at least break something. Lowering its horns, the minotaur charged at me. I guess I could try and put that plan in action. I sprint straight for the wall. The minotaur continue to charge at me full speed. I dive to the side, forcing the mythical beast to crash into the wall. Unfortunately, it didn''t go as I expected to. Nothing goes my way any more does it? I had expected the horns to get stuck in the wall, not cut through it like butter. Now that I notice it, they seem to be buzzing a bit. So, I am facing an enemy that naturally vibrates its horns at a speed that should cut through most things, including a certain metal scimitar that I am currently using. Looks like I can''t parry them then. The minotaur grinned at me and I smiled back. It seems that pissed it off. It charged at me again but not using its horns this time. I doubt I can try that ducking technique again. It seems slightly intelligent and should have been able to adapt to it. The minotaur leaps at me, trying to crush me with another fist. I quickly jump out of the way. Yep, the ground split beneath it. I don''t want to be at the receiving end of one of those attacks. At least its open now. I run forward and try to slice at its neck and sever an artery. The minotaur raises its hand and I end up slicing its palm. It then tries to punch me with the other arm and ends up skimming me, making me spin. I use that momentum and manage to slice of part of the hand that stopped my earlier attack. I back away after that attack. Part of my leather chest piece end up falling off though. It managed to break off part off my armour with that attack. The minotaur however is unaware of this. It seems to be staring at its fingerless hand in disbelief. I use this chance to slice him again then back off. The minotaur roars. I guess it activated a skill as steam is now coming out of its nose. Maybe a buff? Anyway, as long as this buff is not that strong, I should win this as everything eventually bleeds out. The beast charges at me again, slightly faster than before. I have to be careful, If I take a punch or stub I could die. I smile at the stub thought, then get into a stance with a low centre of gravity, preparing to counter anything it throws at me. When it reaches me, it tries to lift its leg and kick me, but I dodge and slice a tendon, causing it to immediately drop to one knee. It is fairly satisfying when you force someone who is trying to kill you to bow to you. I start smiling in an evil manner out of habit. The minotaur tries to pull itself up to its feet but can not. Instead, it tried to punch me in a clumsy manner every time I approached. I circled it as it tried to grab me, desperate to kill. I saw a flicker of what I thought was fear in its eyes. Because Its range was shorter than me, I slowly sliced it apart. First, I cut its eyes, destroying its vision. I then began to create many small cuts on its body that were definitely unable to kill. What can I say? Demon lords have a knack for things like torture. Only when the minotaur was drenched in its own blood did I finally end its suffering. A quick slice to the throat ended it all. The minotaur fell to the ground and squirmed for about a minute before it completely bled out. Love what you''re reading? Discover and support the author on the platform they originally published on. The second minotaur started moving, only then did I notice why it waited. It had created a weapon out of a pile of bones that I only just noticed were next to the throne. 1..2..3......6 bodies, the number of heroes that died here. The weapon made, a bone mace. Looks like this minotaur is more intelligent. Time for what I can only assume is the hardest part of this labyrinth. _________

_________ Author note: Once again, sorry for the late release. I made it action packed though. I hoped you enjoyed reading. Chapter 14: Dungeon completed! There is a minotaur figuratively in between myself and freedom. I am not sure what to do when I get out. Some soldiers could be waiting for me outside. I might be free though. This is a labyrinth so there is probably an exit as well as the entrance that I can go through. Granted, they might know where the exit is but there is the chance that they do not. I could train, hide my identity and challenge the Great Dungeons when I am actually prepared, rather than being forced into these situations where I will most likely die. Anyway, I should stop worrying about that for now. The minotaur has been staring at me for a while now, not moving. My guess is that it wants me to make the first move. I will decide to make the first move then. I run towards the minotaur, scimitar in hand. I decelerate and dash to the side as it swings down its mace. The mace hits the floor as I slice the tendon in the minotaur''s arm. Unfortunately, this minotaur seems to have even tougher skin and muscles. I do not manage to slice through the tendon, only the skin above it. I jump backwards as it raises the mace off of the ground. I have to be careful, I can''t have come this far, just to die from being too hasty. That would not be good. This time the minotaur is the first to move. It charges me, attempting to punch me with its right hand. I sidestep it, right into the path of the mace and tripped from surprise. The mace skims the top of my head, just barely missing because I had tripped. I guess luck only works sometimes. I still fal on my ass though and the minotaur tries to kick me. I roll away, using the momentum to get on my feet immediately. I guess its much easier if I take the offensive. I almost died then and I doubt I will be as lucky next time. I dash forward at the beast as it searches for my corpse in the dust cloud it had kicked up. It only realised I was not there when a gash opened up on its back. I follow its back as it turns around, not noticing where I am. I slice again and the process continues. The minotaur gets really confused and eventually thrashes its arms around, hoping to hit the enemy that it thought was invisible. Even though this minotaur was smart enough to use a weapon, it was still rather stupid. I backed away when the beast thrashed. Unfortunately, this gave it a chance to turn around quicker than I could orbit it. By now, I am sweating, having been fighting full throttle for a while now. It''s not like I had enough time to rest. The minotaur drops the bone mace and charges at me with its head lowered, attempting to stab me with its horns. I guess it thought that the weapon was not helping. I took advantage of this, leading it over to another wall. Even though the horns did not get stuck, it allowed me enough time to circle around the minotaur''s back after I dodged. "Hero''s shout!" (Drac) A roar escapes my mouth. I use as much strength as I can with one had to cut the muscles in the beast''s legs, causing to fall onto its legs and crash its head into the wall with a thud. I guess minotaurs are not immune to concussions. With its literal muscle head, it had crashed ito the wall with quite a speed, knocking itself out. I then quickly finished the job with my weapon. A number of boxes appear in my vision.

I sheathe my scimitar. I have finally completed this wretched labyrinth. "Finally!" (Drac) An inscription appears in front of the seats. ''Do not get overconfident future hero. Both stronger and smarter enemies will appear on your journey to defeat the Demon Lord.'' I swear it is as if the person who writes these messages is watching me. Anyway, it appears that there is no other exit than the entrance. Just as I was about to leave the room, a light shines down on the thrones and I could swear there were people sitting there, smiling at me. Creepy. Greeny follows me out. Great help he was. I guess he couldn''t really help it though, they were magic resistant. I continue back to the stairs which should lead to the entrance. I arrive at the grey crossroads but instead I find stairs leading down. Unsure what to do, I just walk down them. Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. I find a room with a chest in it. So there is a reward for completing the labyrinth. I open the chest and inside I find a gauntlet that is too large for my had. I guess I could sell it. As I reach down to pick it up, it somehow jumps up and latches onto my arm, forming my hand''s shape. So it''s a magic gauntlet. I could use that. I walk back up the stairs and mind the exit. I look back and see the ruins disappear. Magic never fails to amaze. I exit by slashing the chains covering the gate with my scimitar. Guess that is due to my increased strength stat. I walk out of the cave, into blinding sunlight, with an arm in a sling, with damaged armour and with blisters covering my right hand. I am immediately met by Arthur. ___________

___________ Author note: Thanks for reading chapter 14! I released it late because it took time to thing o an idea for something to but in the chest. Trivial reason but I couldn''t decide between a armour and something like a master sword lol. I ended up with a single gauntlet, for aesthetic reasons. It actually has practical uses, kind of acting like an extra hilt if another clashing sword gets past the scimitar''s. I didn''t want two though, Drac''s type of shields would not work with a gauntlet because they would often catch on each other. Chapter 15: Back to the capital Author note: Sorry for the three day late release. I was ill and therefore could not write. I know I should have had some back up chapters done for whenever I am ill or can not write for whatever reason but I didn''t. Sorry about that. I am still ill atm and feel terrible so yeah, I will update this when I can. Hopefully daily. Not sure at what time though. Also, on another note, I am probably going to start another fanfic that would actually be a decent length per chapter and proper speech unlike this one. Although, that one would most likely just be a hobby that I would update whenever I felt like it. Hope you enjoy this chapter. __________ "You actually survived." (Arthur) Arthur just stood in front of me, frozen. From the looks of it, he expected me to die. Well, that''s what you would expect when you shove a weak person into a legendary dungeon. As Arthur stood there, I just smiled. This time, it wasn''t an evil smile. Am I going soft? No, this is the first time I have felt genuinely happy since mother and father... Anyway, how long is Arthur going to look at me? "Can we go back to the city now?" (Drac) I gesture towards my broken arm. "S-Sure." (Arthur) I notice around Arthur there are a couple of soldiers, their respective horses and a familiar looking carriage. It seems to be a makeshift camp. Guess they waited for me to finish. Wait, doesn''t that mean Arthur was the one who knocked me out from behind? Damn him! Anyway, the carriage door was opened by a soldier and I got on. We left a bit later, after the soldiers had finished cleaning up the camp. Arthur was inside the carriage with me. It took about 5 hours to get to the city. A surprisingly short amount of time if you ask me. I thought it would be at least a couple of days away. It''s not like I would know though, I was unconscious on the way here. No one talked during the entire journey except for the occasional times where a foolish monster would attack the caravan. Even then, it would still be a few words to co-ordinate attacks. Surprisingly, when we arrived at the city, there was a large crowd at the gate. "The hero survived!" (Citizen) "Maybe we aren''t doomed!" (Citizen) I could only smile. This time, it was evilly. They were doomed anyway, I would love to see their faces when their hero returns one time with a large demon army. At least I will be treated like an actual hero now. Maybe I won''t have to sleep in that crappy inn any longer. I wouldn''t really mind though. Anything is better than a snakeskin sleeping bag on stone floor. We approached the castle. After getting out of the carriage at the entrance, Arthur and I walked through the gates and into the castle while the other soldiers put away the carriage. Of course, sitting on the throne in the throne room was the elderly king. "Well done hero, you have proved yourself worthy to be called by your title." (King) Wait, I had to prove myself that I was worthy of being a hero, when they summoned me from my own world. Inconsiderate bunch of... "Arthur, clean up the boy, heal him and send him towards the next dungeon already." (King) Another dungeon straight away? Bastard king. I was immediately directed out of the throne room and towards what I could only think of as the court magician''s room. I guess I will be healed by him...her. Sitting in a chair was a woman, at least I think you would call it female. She was so wrinkly that it was difficult to tell her gender. The only indication of it was the bow that was in its hair. It looked fairly out of place on the old bag of bones. "This is the court magician. She will heal your arm." (Arthur) So it was a girl. "Come here boy." (Court magician) The hag beckoned with her inch long fingernails. I think she could even put a banshee to shame. I put my hand in hers. "Heal." (Court magician) A slight pain could be felt in my arm as I felt the bone and blood vessels reconnect and somehow heal. I had never seen healing magic before. Demon races are generally more skilled on the attacking side of magic such as the spells ''Blood boil'' (boil''s the target''s blood) or ''Heart operation'' (rips out the target''s still beating heart). "Amazing. Can I learn the spell?" (Drac) It would certainly be handy. I would no longer need to fight while injured. "Don''t be a fool! You are not worthy to learn my spells!" (Court magician) I almost cut up the hag with my scimitar before Arthur noticed what was about to happen and dragged me away. I was dragged to a room in the castle. It was fairly similar to the inn room I used to live in except this one had an on suite. ¡°This will be your new home. The King has been rather generous, giving you a room in the castle. Clean yourself up and rest. We set off for the Great Jungle in the morning.¡± (Arthur) Unauthorized reproduction: this story has been taken without approval. Report sightings. So the king is generous for giving me a relatively small room that even the servants wouldn¡¯t use? I will enjoy gutting him. Anyway, I¡¯d better clean myself. The more rest I have, the better. I would prefer to not fight monsters while half asleep. I take a bath in my on suite then go to sleep. It feels fairly nice to rest my bones on something other than the labyrinth floor. ____________

________ Author note: Thanks for reading chapter 15. Temporarily stop writing this one? The pole has ended. Just over half of you guys wanted me to carry on writing this so I will. As for those who wanted my other story, it will still be uploaded but it will just be written in any spare time I have. I would like it to be weekly but I don''t have enough time to do so. It should be released between 1-2 weeks, maybe more. As for those who wanted a reboot, I will be changing the style of how I write ''The Demon Lord becomes the hero?''. It will have proper speech, a bit more detail maybe a hundred or so more words. I can not increase it by any more than that because I won''t be able to juggle school and writing. (literally. Get home at at 5:30. Homework is until 7:00. I then write and proofread the next day''s chapter until 9:00. Dinner, then a tiny bit of personal reading time/writing novel number 2.) Next chapter will be up tomorrow because I am writing it tonight. Do not be alarmed by the poll, this is a democracy and I will probably come back to this. If you want to read something much better, then vote properly. It might take a while but the wait will be worth it. I am not stopping writing. I just want to do a better piece of work. This note is basically a response to Valthan who wrote the first in depth review on this fanfic. If you want to read this, feel free to as it has some things I am going to improve in the future in. So first up is style. I do understand that the fight scenes feel a bit short and are easy to skim through because of the way I wrote them. I tried to force my idea of how the fight exactly went when against enemies by describing specific scenes. Other novels use the way where they do not go into specifics of dodging and things like that. Instead, they describe more emotion, thoughts and the overall condition of the battle. I had not really thought about this when conducting my fight scenes so they fell short in those respects. I will try and adopt a way in which I incorporate these into my fight scenes. Next, the story. First things first. I apologise if I am rushing things. I kind of got that way because of my chapter lengths. I would do the same things other writers would do but leave out needed detail and some content. I am not sure how I can really do this. I know you said that no one would mind if stuff took ages if it was done well (not exact words) but I kind of got into the mindset that I wanted to finish this fanfic asap. I felt like I had things I could develop but at the same time I felt that by doing those things, it would not be the same story. This caused me to want to start another fanfic of greatly improved content (which I ended up doing recently as a casual project I would do in my free time). I will try and get rid of this train of thought and add more detail and content. Although I expected myself to do around 100 chapters to finish this, it will probably take longer now. This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it Now onto grammar. I really can''t see much problems there. I deliberately used extreme informal language since this story is, in essence, how Drac sees things in his mind and how Drac thinks. This may lead to shortened sentences or sentences that seem a bit weird but if you try to understand them, you will. With the misspellings, in the beginning, I was using American English as a spell checker. I am from England UK but just couldn''t be bothered to change the options. Eventually I did but I didn''t go back and change American English words to English UK words e.g. armor-armour and realize-realise. Any spellings you don''t agree with other than those, that is embarrassing for me. English is my first language so yeah. If anyone finds any typos please tell me in the comments. Finally, characters. This was my first fanfic and I was fairly lazy with the starting characters. I wanted to get out chapters asap and sacrificed conversations that would normally happen between people such as at the start between Arthur and the innkeeper, or between the King and Drac. I skimped on the conversation between them and basically said ''the king told me I had to kill a demon lord''. I only know now, looking back, that was a mistake. They needed to have a proper conversation to help develop the King''s personality and others like the servants Drac shared his meal with in an early chapter. After reading your review, I kind of want to axe ''The Demon Lord becomes the Hero?''. Not because you hurt my feelings. Quite the opposite actually. You helped me realise my weaknesses and made me want to start a fresh fanfic. One that has quality. One that deserves to get into the top 50 (eventually). As it stands now, I feel like this doesn''t. In actuality, I would feel embarrassed to show this to any of my friends at school because it honestly sucks compared to what I believe I can do. Chapter 16: The journey begins Author note: Hello there internet denizens. My response to the pole is on the pole thread so without further ado, here is chapter 16. My writing from now on will be a bit different from before. If you complain that it is bad different, too bad lol. I am putting in more effort so yeah, it should be better. __________ I woke up. Now it is time for the journey to the second great dungeon. Aren¡¯t I lucky to have been summoned to a world that works me like I¡¯m a pack mule? We left on the carriages early in the morning. My guess is that it was about 7:00 am according to the location of the sun. It had probably rained a bit last night. There is a bit of frost and ice on the ground. The ice that is on the roofs seems to glow a bit like the polished glass skulls that were in my castle. It¡¯s quite an interesting contrast; whether each house has either wooden, thatched or a tiled roof, they all look similar to me. Oh well. Both Arthur and I approached the carriage and got on. Arthur was in his armour and I was in mine. It was no longer tattered however; someone had supplied me with a new leather chest plate when I was asleep as well as a new shield. This time, I sat on the front with Arthur who was now holding the reins. I guess they will only hire a coach driver if they want to put on a public display like before. Either that or the journey will be more dangerous than I think. If that¡¯s the case, I guess the journey won¡¯t exactly be boring. Several soldiers gather around us on horse back. I notice those annoying soldiers who were there when I was first summoned. You know what, I don¡®t want to have to keep referring to them as that so I will call them the soldier pricks. So, the soldier pricks were in the group. I really hope they aren¡¯t killed on the journey so I can at least gut them. We head off towards the Great Jungle. I reach for a sack which I had brought with me. *** Flashback- earlier this morning *** There was a knock on the door. I look out the window and still see that it¡¯s dark. Sheesh, what bastard wakes a guy up at this time? I walk over to the door and open it. There¡¯s no one. What kind of imbecile plays jokes on people like this? As I was closing the door however, someone started speaking. ¡°You know, I am sorry for tricking you like that.¡± I look down and see the Halfling librarian. ¡°As apology, I have brought these books on what we know about the Great Jungle and the great dungeon inside it.¡± ¡°Thanks¡¡± SLAM. I grabbed the books and slammed the door on that little shit¡¯s face. I am still fairly pissed off at him. For one, he had treated me like a nuisance when we first met, then distracted me while Arthur had hit me over the head with something. *** Flashback end *** I open the sack and pull out the books that I had stashed in it this morning. There were three books about the Great Jungle and the Beastmen race and a fourth one on the dungeon itself. I started reading the one of the books about the actual location. Reading isn¡¯t exactly my thing but I¡¯d rather do that instead of trying to strike up a conversation with Arthur. Just as I started to read, we exited through the city gates and onto the green plains where I had fought slimes for a week. Greeny, who has been on my shoulder for a while now, as if noticing we wouldn¡¯t be back for a while, rippled a bit. About five minutes into the journey, the carriage stops. I look up to see the horses and the ground covered in about a hundred slimes. I officially hate that skill. I guess I am strong enough now that every slime will follow me around. *facepalm* ¡°I guess I will have to something about this.¡± I put down the book that I wasn¡¯t very interested in and jumped off the carriage onto the ground. Arthur, the soldier pricks and the other soldiers were all looking at me silent, as if expecting something amazing. What kind of person do you think I am? Some sort of slime king? ¡°Leave!¡± I point in a random direction away from the carriage. As if copying me, Greeny rippled as well. No slime moved. Suddenly, all of the slimes rippled in harmony, creating a deep humming sound. It also made the ground shake slightly. That¡¯s a lot of slimes.
As the strongest slime on the green plains of Golrend, your familiar, Greeny, has been chosen as the King of the Slimes. As the master of the King of the Slimes, you may now raise an army of slimes that will do your bidding
That¡¯s good. Except, what exactly am I going to use an army of slimes for? Unless I could train them into high level slimes, or combine them into one massive slime so that I could take over the continent¡ no, forget that. I need to make Greeny stronger so he will always be the King of the Slimes. For now, I will make them go away. ¡°Leave, now!¡± All the slimes ripple as if in agreement then all bounce away. It feels nice to order a large amount of monsters around for once. I haven¡¯t done it in a while. You would be surprised; the feeling of superiority you get from it is fairly pleasing. I turn around and see Arthur, the soldier pricks and the rest looking amazed. I guess it¡¯s not every day that you would see a conglomerate of slimes being ordered around by a single person. I bask in the glory for a second¡ done. Time to get back on the carriage¡ is that how horses are supposed to look like? The horses are covered in slime and shivering. My guess is that they are traumatised. They should be trained horses who don¡¯t even blink at in the middle of a battlefield and now they are in this sorry state; unless of course we were given farm horses. I look at Arthur and look back of the horses. He then shouts and the horses stop shivering. I get up onto the carriage and we carry on forwards, out of the green plains and into a forest road with a fairly open canopy. The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. The journey South continues¡ __________

___________ Author note: Hope you enjoyed chapter 16. It took me a while to upload because I was trying to get a table to work.
Should I add the comedy tag? Apparently the swearing, sarcastic comments and the attitude of the MC is funny so... should I? Chapter 17: Entering the Great Jungle Author note: Sorry for the late update. I might upload another today if I can. I mentioned I was ill in an earlier chapter and that makes it harder to juggle school work and writing which are both lengthened by it and stress. I also had a recent hospital test I was stressed about so that didn¡¯t help. I apologise if this does not reach the quality of last chapter. I also hit a writer¡¯s block. For no spoilers, I will mention it at the end. _____________ The journey through the patch of woodland was fairly uneventful. It looked like a fairly average forest that I had seen pictures about in books in my old castle. Back then, I was interested in books about the outside world. I didn¡¯t exactly regularly leave my castle to sight see; I only left occasionally to pillage random villages. We weren¡¯t attacked by anything and that was disappointing. I would have liked to watch someone die. Instead, I had to just read the boring books I had. Even that was ruined occasionally when the canopy of trees occasionally got thick enough to block out enough light to read clearly. What I learned from my reading endeavour was that the Beastmen had lived in the Great Jungle for as long as ¡®history began¡¯, whenever that was. They occasionally leave as adventurers but mostly keep to themselves. They live in uncivilised tribes where the strongest is their tribe leader. There are two main tribes called the Gosthav and the Yusthav. The Gosthav typically have dog characteristics while the Yusthav, cat characteristics. They are currently at war and blood is spilled regularly. We only stopped occasionally on the journey to have a meal. The soldier pricks would set up a campfire and the rest of the soldiers either got out rations from inside the carriage or went and hunted and left me to read by myself. A couple of times, the soldier pricks had tried to strike up a conversation with me, almost trying to find some aspect of myself that they could make fun off to entertain their puny brain capacity but I immediately killed the conversations straight away. I would either answer a simple yes or no, then not go into any further detail. The only interesting thing that happened was when we entered the beginning of the Great Jungle. I had expected us to stop at one of the tribes to resupply but instead, the dumbasses decided it would be best to go straight for the dungeon. That would prove later to be a mistake and by later, I mean now. Arrows flew overhead and warriors started to initiate battle as Beastmen from the Gosthav tribe decided to attack us. One of them shouted something about trespassing on holy grounds or something, and then we were attacked. I knew we should have gone straight to a tribe to avoid this sort of misunderstanding. One of our soldiers even tried to negotiate by dropping his weapon and walking with his hands up towards a Beastman but that only resulted in the loss of his head, shoulders and his arms from the elbow down. I myself am currently fighting against a female Beastman with a club but it¡¯s not like I am complaining. I did get to see a gruesome and entertaining death. ¡°AHHHHHHHH!¡±
You have been hit by a warrior¡¯s shout ability variant. You are now stunned for half a second
Half a second was all she needed. She was about to deal a killing blow to my head but the buckling of my knees resulted in a slight cushioning effect. Coupled with Greeny making me slip a bit more with his slime, I was only knocked out. Light. I see light in front of me. Oh, I am currently tied up and hanging upside down along with other soldiers around a campfire. I look up and see that not only am I not wearing any clothes, the rope is attached to a tree branch as thick as a log so it looks like it will not be breaking anytime soon. I look around and spot Greeny who is currently in a cage. As if noticing my stare, Greeny ripples. I also look for Arthur among the soldiers hung up with me but do not spot him. Did he die? If those Beastmen killed my target, so help me I¡¯ll¡ they killed Arthur who is stronger than I am. How am I supposed to kill them if they killed someone with at least triple my current combat ability? I can¡¯t. ¡°These humans and slime were found by one of our search parties trespassing on the holy ground, Chief. How shall we deal with them?¡± My attention is drawn to a throne made of a mix of human and animal bone. Nice taste... wait, that¡¯s not what I should be thinking about right now. There is a Beastman by the side of the throne; I can only assume that he was the one that asked the question. He seems he would suit the deep, grizzly voice I had heard. On the throne is a female Beastman, who was referred to as Chief; the strongest of the Gosthav tribe and quite the looker. Apart from the scars on her body and the massive great sword at her side, her brown hair with her brown eyes that were framed by her slightly tanned face made me stare. She met my gaze and licked her lips. ¡°Skin them alive and add them to tonight¡¯s festival as the main course. Leave the scrawny one and the slime for me however. I sense something from them and I could always do with another trophy.¡± *** Arthur¡¯s point of view *** I am currently running as fast as I can out of the forest. To think we met the Gosthav tribe out of all the insignificant ones. We should have been able to defend from any but the two major tribes and we drew the short straw. We were going along on the carriage when they suddenly ambushed us. How was I supposed to know about a ¡®holy land¡¯ in the Great Jungle. That librarian Ludwaeg should have told me about it. I managed to finally exit the Great Jungle after half an hour of sprinting. I need to get back to the city as soon as possible. We need to summon a new hero. It was a shame as well, he got further than the others ever did and he was growing on me. I continued to go through the regular forest at night. Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings. ¡°I know it is dangerous but I have to get back quickly. The Demon Lord might attack soon and without a hero, the whole continent will be conquered.¡± ___________

____________ Author note: What I struggled on was with making the story interesting. I had written a couple of chapters about the journey to the Great Jungle but all of them were not interesting at all. I had a campfire scene but could not think of suitable dialogue. I also had a small wolf fighting scene but it ended too quickly with highly trained soldiers and that made it boring so I ended up omitting the wolf fight and shortening the campfire scene by a ton. PS. Who wants to bet that the soldier pricks will die next chapter? Extra PS, please spot any typos. I am trying to polish this up and I don''t have a proofreader other than myself. I am also not sure how to give others the ability to edit the chapter so I don''t think I can get one atm anyway. I will have to experiment. Hope you enjoyed chapter 17! Chapter 18: A rival appears Message to Nasir05: I really didn¡¯t have anything to write for the author¡¯s note so I thought I would just chat to someone who has been reading since I first released my novel. So here goes. Kind of feels weird writing it here and not in the comments. You seem to be on almost every novel I read. I just started reading True Identity and on the author¡¯s blog you even get credited and thanked for an idea. I even started reading a bit of your novel but I decided to wait until more chapters came out. I only realised that you were fairly invested in my novel quite a bit when you wrote that comment on chapter 17. I hope you continue to read this novel. Message to everyone: I am sorry that recently I haven¡¯t been able to update daily. I have been updating fairly erratically and that has been unfair to you guys. I did promise but now I am going to have to change what I said. I will try to upload daily but might not because of RL stuff. I sometimes can¡¯t think of what to write because I have multiple directions to go in. I didn''t want to make this chapter too clich¨¦, but I definitely wanted to go in a similar direction and I had trouble making it there so I delayed it. Hope you still enjoy the chapter. _________ *** ???¡¯s point of view *** It has been 8 years since we easily regained our territory and enslaved the demons after the Demon Lord suddenly disappeared that day. Still, since my parents died in that dungeon he created, I have been training in the orphanage. If any more Demon Lords appear, I will be able to easily conquer the labyrinth, grab the legendary weapon and slay him; that is only if the legendary weapon is as great as they say it is. I am a bit sceptical about it. Why would the Demon Lord leave such a place unguarded? Only savage and mindless beasts live there. They roam the halls, killing anyone who sets foot inside, be it man or demon slave. Why did he disappear? My parents apparently got to the boss of the dungeon; a great beast that was half bull, half man. Did the fact that they got close scare him? Did he run away? Is he guarding it himself now? No, I mustn¡¯t say that. It is taboo now. Even if the Church says their leader killed the Demon Lord, everyone knows that¡¯s a lie. A fat, elderly man would not have been able to stand against the Demon Lord, let alone the sins he shames such as gluttony and sloth. ¡ I am fairly proud of myself. I am now 14 and can already defeat the adults in the village. Still, I have to get stronger. Although the dungeon was called unbeatable, the one who created it was called even worse names. At the age of five, he single handedly destroyed an army of 80,000 soldiers, knights, mages, archers and heroes. If a Demon Lord appears with even a small portion of his strength, we are doomed. He can¡¯t have disappeared, he was not that weak. This fact scares me. ¡ ¡°Happy birthday!¡± It is my sixteenth birthday today. The party I am in are currently celebrating it. It has been ten years since the Demon Lord had disappeared. The loss from the war has almost been regained. Almost everyone who is around my age has almost forgotten it. Those who lost family locked it away in the back of their minds; others simply acted like it had nothing to do with them and let it go. I will not however; I have to get stronger. I have to get stronger¡ If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. ¡ I have been recently asked to marry a noble. They seemed to have been impressed by my fighting prowess. I did, after all this time, manage to place first in the world martial arts tournament. I had to decline. I have to at least double my efforts from now on. I probably wouldn¡¯t be able to fight against 100, let alone 80,000 people at once, without breaking a sweat. I am too weak. I should have gotten stronger than I am now through my training. Is this the limit of human fighting capabilities or am I just hitting a bottleneck? Maybe if I get the legendary weapon I will understand. Hopefully the Demon Lord is not there. ¡ My party and I entered the labyrinth three weeks ago. We found the boss a couple of times and each time, we lost members. I am the only one left. I have had to rely on eating any monster I come across. It is crude, tasteless and tough; nothing compared to mother¡¯s cooking. Mother¡ I cried that night for the first time in ten years. ¡ I have finally killed the boss. I trained and I trained inside the dungeon until I was finally able to put the beast down. Kathyrin, Elzbeth, Liz and Fran, you can now rest in peace. I approached the room behind the arena that the boss had resided in. I entered. Words were written on the back wall¡ NO WEAPON HERE! I TROLLED YOU ¨CDemon Lord My party died in vain. My parents died in vain. If the Demon Lord is not dead, I will kill him. A light appeared beneath my feet, making me feel dizzy and disorientated. What is this? A trap set up by the Demon Lord? Am I going to die here as well? No! I stumbled out of the light in an unfamiliar area. What happened? Where is this place? WHERE CAN I FIND AND KILL THE DEMON LORD? ¡°Welcome hero.¡± A voice came out from somewhere in the room. I turned to face a man on top a throne. __________

__________ Author note: Sorry for the shortish chapter. I couldn¡¯t think about what way to go so I decided to add the new hero. PS: Don¡¯t hate on her back story. Time can travel at different speeds in parallel universes. Also, harem member get! JK, I probably won¡¯t go in that direction. Maybe one love interest. It all depends on how the story goes. Chapter 19: The Deal Things have happened. I fell behind in releasing chapters because of school work and then I fell ill again for a long time, causing me to miss school and I had to miss out writing time in order to catch up. By the end of it, I got into a cycle where I would get fired up to write due to my competitive spirit and then when I try to write, I start worrying whether or not I should release because of possible hate comments I could get. I know RRL isn¡¯t like that but it still got under my skin because of the type of person I am. That was why I started expressing myself on another format, live streaming. I realised that this year, the only thing that made me properly happy was reading your comments and seeing your support on my fanfic so I am giving my all to push through my nervousness and give you guys what you deserve. This is the first chapter of many to come, hopefully new and improved. Please continue to support me. *bows* PS: I am continuing to live stream so if you have any questions or just want to chat, you can watch me on www.twitch.tv/branchingsky and ask them to me live. I have a plan to submit a novel to a publishing company in about five years and stream a lot in the five years up till then. I kind of want being a pro author and live streamer to be my profession so I hope you guys support me. If I do not make it, I will continue writing and streaming but I will have to get a real job. My life is in your hands; for my future and your enjoyment, please comment and help me to improve my work. _________ *** Drac¡¯s point of view *** The Beastman Chief introduced herself as Aydan, meaning ¡®from the moon¡¯, while I was being dragged by her, tied up in a cage, naked, with Greeny. As I was being dragged, I could feel every small bump and crack transmitting from the ground, through the metal cage and into me. The effect made me fairly nauseous which worsened the journey to where I could only guess was Aydan¡¯s hut. On the bright side though, I was not going to get eaten and I did get to see the village for what it was. Most of the buildings seemed to be made of rudimentary materials such as hay, mud, cloth and interwoven branches that all seemed to fit together to give a ¡®one with nature¡¯ feel. It definitely fit my assumption of how a Beastman would live: purely focusing on hunting/fighting with only the bare necessities for comfort such as a hay bed or what not. The huts themselves were placed everywhere; from the small ones balanced in trees with networks of wooden bridges connecting them; to the more lavish and better crafted ones the ground. I would assume it represents some sort of hierarchy with scouts and weak fighters at the top, safer from invaders while the strongest would be on the ground. The occasional child ran up to my cage being dragged and would kick it, curse at me, then run away laughing. The Gosthav tribe would be high up on my ¡®to kill list¡¯ if not for the fact they were going to eat the soldier pricks. Still, there were more children around than I had expected which made my journey all the more worse. Finally, I was dragged in front of the largest hut I could see before being brought inside. A curtain that seemed to act as a door was drawn closed and Aydan sat down in front of me on a cushion. If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation. ¡°What are you?¡± the Aydan asked. ¡°Other Beastmen might not be able to tell the difference but my nose is particularly keen. While resembling one and wearing their clothes, you are not a human and that slime is not an ordinary one either.¡± I have to play it safe here. She could still kill me. I myself should know best that the best trophies aren¡¯t always the ones that are alive. ¡°I am¡ It does not matter what I am, rather, what matters is what I can do for you.¡± I replied. ¡°Do for me? Boy, what exactly could you do for me? I am after all the one who holds your life in her hands. I would be fairly surprised if you have something of value for me.¡± She did not reveal anything to me at that point, keeping all of her thoughts and feelings locked behind her straight face. ¡°Oh! There is something you could possibly do,¡± Aydan said enthusiastically before an evil grin, rivalling my own, spread across her face. I have to say, this is the first time I have been attracted to a member of the opposite sex. ¡°I will let you go free if you retrieve my ancestor¡¯s necklace from the great dungeon here. She died while exploring and I believe the only person capable of retrieving it would be me. However, I am stuck here governing our village. I highly doubt you are capable of accomplishing such a feat yet you do seem special.¡± ¡°Okay but first, can you let me out of this cage and get my things from wherever you took them to?¡± Aydan nodded and opened the cage and untied me. I am fairly glad we came to this agreement yet something makes me wonder. They have people here who are easily stronger than Arthur, yet the strongest Beastman is the only one who is powerful enough to retrieve it? Although this will be killing two birds with one stone, I think this dungeon will be a lot more difficult than the last. Aydan left and returned with two Beastmen holding my gear. After checking that everything was still there, I grabbed it off of them and started getting ready. I am already naked, what is the point of getting ready privately? After equipping everything, including the gauntlet which readjusted its size, once again, I was led back through the village and into thick foliage. After about five minutes, we reached a door, inscribed with what I could only guess was some sort of ancient writing that looked similar to the markings I saw on the ruins before the labyrinth. Around it was a wall of trees and also vines interwoven to create an archway of green. ¡°Good luck.¡± Aydan patted me on the back with such force that I was lifted off the ground slightly and landed, one foot from where I was standing, on my back side. ¡°I¡¯m sure you need it,¡± one Beastman snorted before getting a slap over the head from Aydan. I got back onto my feet and with scimitar in hand and a shield strapped to the other, I pushed open the door and went through before it closed behind me. __________ Author note: I am not adding Drac¡¯s stats to the end of chapters anymore unless some sort of change happens. Anyway, hope you enjoyed the chapter. Plan for future As you may know, I am a terrible author on RRL. Not terrible as in I write bad stuff (even if my stuff isn''t good) but terrible as in I can''t seem to get enough time to write my story and therefore can not upload much at all. This is because real life stuff has been a pain at the moment due to exams, illness, catching up and the stress of all of this. So... here is my plan for the future. In about a week, I should be able to start to upload chapters almost daily. Exams will be over, I can finally catch up and even if I am ill, I can still write. I love all of you guys, my readers, and I really want to clear up a possible misunderstanding... that I am just lazy or do not care about you. If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. On the bright side, I made a cover picture for: The Demon Lord becomes the hero? with Greeny on it. Couldn''t really depict Drac because hey, I have no drawing software or photoshop so I had to do my best with what I had which was paint lol. I might update it later but not any time soon. Chapter 20: The second dungeon begins Author note: Until next week, I am only going to write chapters when I can. Like always, hope you enjoy. _______ As the door behind me closed, my stomach growled and I swear I heard a guard behind me laugh. Screw him. I bet he has never been captured by beastmen who are pretty much savages and had to miss a meal like I have. Still, the growl from my stomach did bring something to my attention. It looks like I will have to find some food in the dungeon like last time or I will starve to death before a monster gets to kill me. As I walked through the relatively plain cavern, Greeny, who was currently on my shoulder, rippled and made a somewhat cute squeaking sound at a vine, hanging from the cavern ceiling. It was suspiciously exactly the same shad as Greeny and, now that I got a closer look, was slightly translucent. It was probably some sort of cavern slime but I could not trust myself with killing it. After all, it could be an extremely high level and it looks like one of my favourite monsters: the carnivorous vine. The name doesn''t really fit the green worms that hang in caves and expand to eat adventurers whole. Then again, the name was chosen by the humans and seemed to help them remember its appearance; leading to less and less adventurers falling into its trap which led to a lack of food and the worm¡¯s eventual extinction. Due to that uncanny similarity, I avoided it by edging along the cavern wall. I continued walking through the cavern and came across many of these slime things with one in particular catching my attention. It was a very dark green, as if it was absorbing the light that naturally gets emitted from normal dungeons. I was extra careful in avoiding it as, as if whispering, Greeny only nudged the side of my head this time to warn me. He seemed almost petrified just from looking at it; a bit ironic for a slime that can turn people to stone. With Greeny, a blob of goo with no brain, acting so scared, I decided to act in a similar manner. I doubt my slime¡¯s IQ is high enough to hold a conversation if he could speak but the instincts of monsters are fairly strong. I was not stupid enough to ignore his extra quiet warnings and decide to edge around this one extra carefully. After about five minutes of walking, I reached a large, open space. The cavern area was no longer visible and was instead replaced with grass, some sort of underground jungle and a river that flowed from what I could only assume was some sort of magical water source, since I could not see any visible spring. At least I will not die from dehydration. I approached the river and drank from it. Greeny seemed to do the same as he jumped in and floated on the surface, only to expand and sink to the bottom. I could still see him though as the water was so clear. I also noticed some fish which made me realise something. Either he been in secret y someone else, or I had not fed Greeny since the first dungeon. I should really look after him more as he is my first servant in this world. Support the creativity of authors by visiting the original site for this novel and more. As if he heard my thoughts, Greeny pounced on a fish swimming past. Turns out slimes look fairly evil when they eat something with bones. I swore I saw a red glint on Greeny as he slowly dissolved the fish, first only the organic matter, then the bones slowly. The bones did not dissolve immediately and stayed around for the next five minutes as I rested. It sure has been a stressful week. Days of travelling pent up my frustration; then I was knocked out and captured, only to be sent into a dungeon where I will probably get killed. The only good thing is that right now, those soldier pricks are probably being eaten by the beastmen. A smirk appeared on my face. ¡°Maybe it hasn¡¯t been such a bad week after all,¡± I said while falling into a light sleep, with Greeny on my chest¡ Or so I would have l liked to. As I closed my eyes I heard a low growl and Greeny started bouncing up and down on my chest. I quickly got to my feet while Greeny manoeuvred his way onto my right shoulder. Resting my hand on my scimitar hilt, I accessed the monster that stopped me from sleeping. It was a green wolf, similar to the size you would expect from one outside of the ground. It was alone, which either meant one of two things. Its pack was going to emerge from the jungle any second now, or it was an outcast. Judging by the fact that no other wolves joined it as we had our stare off, it was an outcast. That was good, it means that it is probably weaker than the average wolf or must be injured from fighting with the pack leader. I am going to make him regret the day that he stopped me from taking a nap. I drew my scimitar and ran straight at him. The wolf took a low stance and then jumped right at my legs. Due to some flukey reaction, I dropped my sword down and cut the wolf in a similar way to how humans play cricket, cutting it in half due to the wolf¡¯s momentum. ¡°Well that was easy,¡± I said, while whipping blood, which had splattered on me, off of my face. Oh how lady luck likes to mess with me. It turns out that it was with a pack and appears to be only a youth. About ten or so wolves emerged from the jungle, all about thrice the size of the first wolf. ¡°I am going to die,¡± I said before sprinting full speed down the side of the river. _______ Author note: Yay, I don¡¯t have to write any more tables for the next chapter links and stuff now. There is now a bar at the bottom of every royal road story so it means things got less complicated. <3 royal road mod who added that. Chapter 20.5: The chase Author note: So¡ I wrote this part which was going to be added as chapter 21 but it wasn¡¯t long enough and if I edited chapter 20, previous readers would miss out. So this is my first .5 chapter. Hope you enjoy. (btw it¡¯s a tad short) ________ It only took a moment for the wolves to smell the blood of their fallen brother on me; so they gave chase immediately. Although I had a head start, they caught up almost instantly. Just my luck. Of course that wolf HAD to be with a pack. One of the wolves leapt at my legs, trying to wound me. Somehow, I managed to dodge. I had coincidentally looked back at that moment and got a bit lucky. Of course luck is only on my side when I am about to die. Dam this ironically extremely high luck stat. I would have thrown Greeny at them to buy some time but that would limit my options too much later on. I could only keep on running. By now, every single wolf had caught up with me. Every few seconds a new one jumped up to attack, only for me to sidestep. I already had two deep gash marks on my back where a stray paw hat hit and torn through my leather chest piece. This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. A waterfall came into view on my right and the river picked up speed. Directly ahead of me was a cliff so I had two choices. One was to run to the left and into the jungle. The other was to cross the river and hope the wolves give up chase or get carried by the current and down the water fall. I doubted that I could keep running for much longer so I jumped into the river. The wolves did not follow me. Although I could stand, the wolves would most likely not have a footing in the river. Instead they growled at me in unison. United, they looked like a giant, feral beast, cornering its prey and ready for anything.
You have been put under the status effect FEAR. All stats -30%
As soon as that message appeared, my legs gave out from underneath me. They no longer had the strength to resist the strong current. I tried to swim desperately to the far shore but could not make it. I fell down the waterfall with a slime following soon after. Chapter 21: Water The descent was fast. The impact with the water caused me minimal damage; maybe due to my falling position but most likely just due to luck. I fell down into a small lake; one that seemed to drain away underwater as I was being sucked along a current downwards. I could not resist the flow of water because the effect from the FEAR debuff still remained. I could only hold my breath and hope for the best. I could still survive depending on if there was an underground cave or not but my chances were looking grim. I was quickly swept into a tunnel and was forced along its path. I would sometimes slam into a glowing wall, or maybe ceiling, which would knock some of my precious air out of my lungs. After about thirty seconds of entering the tunnel, my lungs started to burn like fire. They were begging for air. Desperate for air and half delusional, I looked at Greeny, who was not suffering due to lack of oxygen. A shadow appeared behind Greeny and quickly swallowed him up. It was moving fast, creeping along the walls towards me. My feet became enveloped in the darkness but it didn¡¯t hurt. It must be slowly absorbing my life! I quickly tried to slash at the darkness but it seemed to be not affective. The water resistance was stopping any attack that I would try to make. Whatever monster it was, it seemed to be perfectly evolved for this. It would be the sort of thing I would have added to my dungeon if it existed in my world. I guess I am going to die by a monster that I can¡¯t even resist against. The current was still washing me down the underwater tunnel, deeper and deeper. It started to get colder and colder. The chilling temperature creeped into my bones as I was dying; then again, this feeling could just be the feeling of my health being absorbed. As seconds passed by, I felt as though time had slowed down just to lengthen my suffering. The seconds each felt like minutes, which in turn felt like hours. DAMN IT! It took Greeny to reappear in my vision to correct my sense of time and make me to realise I was just losing consciousness. He also made me realise all of my hard work so far. Why have I trained? Why have I overcome the odds and came out of that first dungeon? Why did I barter for my life with the chieftain if I was just going to die in a different way soon after?! My vision cleared up for five seconds as I willed myself to live. I told myself that I would live over and over. The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. The last thought that crossed my mind was ¡®I WILL SURVIVE AND GET STRONGER!¡¯ I woke up coughing up water. Greeny was bouncing up and down on my chest. I looked around and realised I was somewhere underground at the edge of a river. Realising I was lucky that I washed up instead of being dragged to my death by the current, I was quite happy. I couldn¡¯t move however; although the debuff had seemed to run out, I was covered in bruises from bashing into walls. I just lay there for what seemed to be hours on end. The calming sound of the river calmed me as I lost consciousness again. I regained consciousness after an unknown amount of time. I had no sun to check the time against and even if I was ¡®above ground¡¯, I would still be in a dungeon where there was no natural light. I slowly got up and straightened out my aching body. It hurt a lot to move but it seemed there was nothing broken. At least I do not have to apply first aid on myself. A creepy smile appeared on my face as I remembered the shabby first aid I had applied when I broke my arm. Now that I looked at the cave a bit more, I could see that there was only ground where I was standing and onwards. I was not going to attempt to swim back up the river with my body in this state so I decided to hobble down the ground next to the water. I looked ahead of me as the river seemed to be going on forever. As I began walking, with slime in tow, I could only think how I hoped it ended up near the end of the dungeon. ___ Author note: This would have been longer but due to time constraint, I had to release it before I wanted to. Anyway, daily hype. This will now be daily again like I promised so yay you guys. PS: Next chapter in the Author Notes at the top will have a serious topic that I want to talk about. Anyway, love you all and hope you enjoyed chapter 21. DROPPED Due to the lack of recent updates, I will be dropping this fiction. While I will not update this fiction any more, I might do a reboot without the things I hate. I went into this story as a complete noob. I messed up the early chapters; added weird and random things that seem stupid now that I look back and tried to do something I could not. I even got a special cover for this and am sad that I never really got to use it much since that was around the time I stopped writing. Writing this story turned into a chore and that removed the fun I originally got from it. This goes to show that you should never continue to write something that you hate. I apologise to people who were reading from the beginning and took this journey with me. I am currently writing something new but although I get pulled into it sometimes like before, some things seem like a chore. I can''t seem to get the emotion I want to portray across and that annoys me so it might take up to a week to release it. If you wish to be notified when it is released, keep following this story as I will post the first chapter on here while it is getting approved. I am sorry for not writing this sooner. I knew it was time to drop this as soon as I stopped being able to upload at a decent speed but I thought that if I worked through it, it would become fun again but it didn''t. Goodbye for now. If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation. One more thing, while some of you readers (albeit few) might be thinking I am lazy and am a disgrace for dropping this, I have put a lot of effort into this; more effort than I have ever put into anything in my life. I came into this thinking that writing is easy. I can imagine entire stories, from birth to death, marriage to loss, happiness to sadness all in my mind so why can''t I just put it into words. What I didn''t realise was that getting across the picture in my head in words was going to be difficult. Writers spend nights awake, wondering ways to word things, which would be more sensible, more plausible, more realistic. For example: ''The tears that formed in her eyes, that sparkled like crystals as they snaked down her cheeks reflected all the hardships she had gone through to reach this moment.'' Sometimes that would take a long time, all coming from the image of a girl crying for finally accomplishing something. -BranchingSky Thanks for the journey and expect another read shortly. EDIT: New story''s first chapter is about 75% done. Abyssal Endymion My newest fiction is Abyssal Endymion. This is the first chapter. Hope you enjoy. also, this is the link to the actual story page on RRL: Abyssal Endymion -________ Sweat plastered his clothes to his skin as he ran from the monstrosity that brought imminent death wherever it went. The hulking demon chased him through the dark corridors as he tried to escape. Out of breath and with a stitch on both sides, he continued to run. Although tears clouded his eyes, the man had no chance to wipe them away less it allowed the monster to get closer. He was the last one left; the only one who had survived the event. Things were supposed to be better than this after getting to Japan, the land of his dreams. The man was a stock broker who also held an office job. He wanted to earn enough money in order to fund virtual reality projects. In the beginning, he thought the idea was farfetched; however, after the death of a friend who was developing such a device, he looked into it. For once it didn¡¯t seem like pure fantasy like in the light novels he read in a child. To carry on his friend¡¯s goal, he helped fund every project he could come across. The man¡¯s job led him to be transferred to the Japan branch because there was an opening and he was the only one who knew Japanese. On his first day on the job, however, he had by chance dropped his phone in the toilet meaning he had to check stocks on his work computer. While googling a stock trading website; he saw an ad that advertised a new sort of virtual reality. Sam Lochs, being the enthusiast he was, immediately funded it and unlocked the ¡®beta¡¯; forcing him and his co-workers, who were immediately killed by the monster, into a game. As Sam ran through the corridors, a blue screen appeared in front of him, almost tripping the man. This one slip up almost killed him.
Welcome to the beta of Cruel World. As you may be aware by now, there are some bugs. Don¡¯t be alarmed, they only result in a random spawn point, permanent death, forced log in and no log out button. It may take a few years to fix these bugs because it takes time to work out manipulating space so please find the nearest village and reside there for safety. Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any deaths or being permanently trapped inside the game. Please enjoy the game. -Game God
The last line that Sam read seemed to taunt the man, as if it was deliberately trying to piss him off. The person going by the alias of Game God did not put anything about this in his project page. As he finished reading the message, two more blue boxes appeared in front of him.
Sprint learnt
Stamina is low
¡®Crap,¡¯ he thought to himself. Having remembered to check the bars in the top left of his vision due to the message, he noticed that the green one was extremely low. About 10% was remaining. As it was reaching 5%, Sam saw a doorway in the distance. Willing himself forward, he pushed on, even when his stamina had reached 0%. As Sam entered the new area, the monster was upon him, trying to squeeze itself into the entrance but unable to. With temporary safety, Sam collapsed onto the floor, going into a fit of gasping for air and throwing up. After that had finished and his stamina bar had replenished itself slightly, Sam sat up and stared at the hulking beast that had killed his newfound colleagues. Covered in tentacles, the only thing separating itself from reality and a Lovecraft fantasy novel were the large blades that seemed to grow out of the extremities. The body of the monster itself was covered in blood and body parts of people who were alive just minutes ago; this made Sam gag and almost throw up again. Organs, intestines, random limbs seem to cover the creature as if it wore them as a coat. Towards the top of the creature, Sam could see its name floating above.
Guardian of the temple of darkness: Cthulhu¡¯s second spawn
It stuck one of its tentacles through the entrance, slamming down right next to him, cutting through the ground like butter. The shock kicked up the fear factor to max once again in the man, forcing him to get onto his feet leave with haste. However, in his current state, it was less than fleeing and more like walking away swiftly. Sam¡¯s stamina hadn¡¯t recovered much at all and seemed to be hovering around the 10% mark constantly. His body could only stop the shortness of breath, not the shaking of his legs that seemed to persist throughout the journey through the corridor. After a couple of minutes of walking, the corridor opened up into what seemed like the Greek Pantheon. Above, there was no ceiling for the pillars to support and instead just the night sky, filled with stars, remained.
Area entered: Temple of Darkness, Confessional for the gods
The box persisted for a few seconds before disappearing from view, informing Sam of his location. Happy to leave the area, he rushed to the edge of the temple, only to see nothing. Rather, an abyss seemed to replace the ground and this was confirmed when Sam kicked a rock down. It fell and fell, seemingly disappearing into the darkness, swallowed up by a gluttonous snake. ¡®Wait, this is supposed to be a game right? If so, this seems like the perfect location for a boss battle. Unless,¡¯ Sam licked his chapped lips, ¡®that guardian thing was the boss and this is some sort of shrine or treasure room.¡¯ Looking around the ruins, Sam spotted a strange mark on the altar. A large, red blood stain, seemingly pointing towards sacrifice alerted him. Although it was now empty, the area seemed evil enough to reveal that some sort of cult had been here and, judging by the name, talked to some sort of god through the sacrifices they held. At a loss of what to do, Sam took a sharp piece of stone off of the floor and, since he was not the type of man to slice the entirety of his palm, cut the tip of his finger. Who knows, maybe he could ask the god to get him out of here. The only other options were to somehow get past the guardian that had just murdered a good twelve other people or jump into the abyss hoping for the best. Putting his hand onto the altar, it glowed a shade of red before Sam felt a presence behind him. Turning around, he noticed that his surroundings had changed. Neither the entrance, nor the temple was there. He was standing in the abyss. He would have thought he had gone blind if not for the skies in the sky and the strange feeling under his feet. A laugh could be heard from behind. ¡°So you managed to reach my citadel?¡± the gender neutral voice asked. ¡°Interesting. Very well, for a human such as yourself, this should suffice as a reward.¡± Blue screens popped up before one another, blocking each other as they clogged Sam¡¯s vision.
For reaching the darkness citadel and subsequently gaining a god¡¯s recognition, you have been rewarded with a suitable prize.

By the time Sam had finished reading all of the blue boxes, he was standing back in the temple. The only difference was that the abyss was no longer at the borders of the temple. Instead, it was replaced by buildings and streets, flooded with people. Also, although it was night before, it was now around midday, judging by the sun¡¯s position. Looking out across such a realistic city, he could only think of one thing, ¡®This is supposed to be just a game, right?¡¯ Sam¡¯s journey in this game world begins now.
