《NeoGaea》 Prologue: Rebirth of a World Hi Everyone. This my very first fiction story to make and well...I''m not a native English speaker so if ever anyone finds any problems and grammar mistakes on my work, I''m open to criticism, corrections and suggestions. Feel free to post them at the comments section. So let the story begin. I hope you''ll like it. * * * * * * * * * * Prologue: Rebirth of a World A young man clad in armor made of magic stood atop the walled kingdom''s main gate. Accompanying him were individuals around his age. All of them were wearing a black hood identical to the gray one the man was wearing, hiding their faces with it. Wounds, blood and soil stains covered their bodies, their posture showing weariness after being through a very long battle. This group of ten young adults had led the world''s last kingdom on its final stand to overturn the tides of war against the Worldeaters, creature originating from the Void. They live and repopulate by devouring all life from a planet then moving to another once all the resources had been used up. These creatures have the ability to create void gates to cross between dimensions. Now, the war was finally coming to an end. The signal had been sounded. All the humans outside the kingdom immediately retreated within its walls. After the last person has entered, a barrier was activated surrounding the whole kingdom and preventing any Worldeater from entering. The barrier won''t hold long but its enough to last until the whole plan is completed. While overseeing the current condition of the battlefield the man disabled his magic armor . With the sound of the signal still ringing in his ears, he finally let himself be at ease and sat on the edge of the wall while looking at the Worldeaters charge at the barrier in frustration. They were able to successfully defend the kingdom and give the Great Elders the time they need to cast their ultimate World Level Spell [Terraformation]. From the center of the kingdom a spell was released. A magic circle formed at the sky above. Dimension gates all over the world collapsed upon themselves and the cracks left in space were sealed halting the Worldeaters from crossing dimension. The remaining Worldeaters were sent into confusion. "Looks like the elders were able to complete the incantation in time." The man spoke to the woman who sat besides him. "Yeah, the spell took a long time to cast though. We had to fight nonstop for two whole days! Without a time for a break or to eat! I''m really out of gas." "Well we got no other choice, we are the strongest they have in the army. If we were to retreat in the middle of the battle to rest, the troops moral may waiver." "Sheesh, I know. You don''t have to remind me." "That asides since it seems we could finally relax, won''t you give me the privilege in inviting you to witness the main event together? The spell''s final part is about to begin. Those Elders told me its gonna be flashy." The woman face him with her head tilted and asked. " Whats that suppose to mean? Are you inviting me on a date?" He chuckled. "Well you could treat eat that way, but the show wouldn''t last longer than a hour." "That''s fine enough. Sure, I accept Mr. World''s Savior." "Haha....hey don''t flatter me. i sure did led the battle and devised the plan, but I couldn''t have done it without help from everybody. Also, if it weren''t for this certain girl''s encouragement i wouldn''t have gathered enough courage to step up in the first place. I''m not that great of a person as you think.'''' He spoke placing his hand on top of hers. The author''s narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. The woman blushed while trying to suppress her giggle. The way he humbles himself always amuses her. "Pfft...no matter what achievements you get, you sure know how to be a humble person till the very end." The man''s eyes lit up. "Shhh! Look. Its starting." he said urging her to look up in the skies. The colors of the sealed cracks changed from black to luminescence of varying hues. A few moment afterwards the cracks shattered, enormous amounts of mana gushed forth and was released all throughout the world. The night sky was filled with brilliant display of aurora lights and the whole world aside from the surviving kingdom Avalon underwent transformation. Terraformation. It is a worldwide spell that summons multitude of locations across other dimensions swapping them with the ones from the world where the spell originated. In simpler words, a massive land exchange among wolds. With this they could get rid of the Worldeaters while replacing the land the have razed. Barren lands were replaced with lush forest. Empty marshlands were changed into mountain ranges. All the lands devastated by the invasion were one by one exchanged with bountiful ones from another dimension along with the inhabitants living within it. New diversities of life were introduced to the world. "Ah. What a marvelous sight to behold." Seeing the guy''s childish smile along with the breathtaking background behind him, weariness the girl felt earlier was lowly washed away. "Yeah it sure is." she agreed. Everything from here onward will depend to the relationship the Avalonians would build with those inhabitants from the other worlds. At least it should be relatively easier, since there was a reason why the spell took too much time to cast. Normally, by default it would just randomly replace lands from the other dimensions and casting it would take no longer than quarter of a day. However the Elders had modified it by the young man''s suggestion. It was made so that those relocated lands would be originating from the worlds that were also under the Worldeater''s invasion before they could be all annihilated. A last resort spell not only to save the kingdom from doom but also to save other remaining races and create an alliance in the future once the Worldeaters find a way to return the this world. "(Sigh)...but our job doesn''t end here does it? Tomorrow we''ll surely have more work to do." "Nope, we''re heading home." "Huh? Aren''t we going to help in building that alliance you had suggested?" "Nah...We''ll leave it up to those geezers. I believe we''ve done the parts we could, and lent the help more than what we were capable of. Its not a bad idea if we just silently leave and give ourselves a rewarding rest after all those hardships. Besides we haven''t seen our love ones for quite a long time. They''ll be worried if we still don''t come back." The lights in the sky finally began to fade. The entire transformation of the world was finally complete. The man stood and offered the woman a hand. "Shall we get moving?" "Yup, you got a point. the show did remove my fatigue, but I''m still starving. Lets grab a snack while we''re at it." The woman reach out for his hand and stood. Behind them the sun has began to slowly rise from the horizon. A mark of a new beginning. A start of a new era for the world that was transformed anew. A world that would be onward called ''NeoGaea''. Interlude: Succeeding Chaos Interlude: Succeeding Chaos The following day the whole kingdom celebrated their victory. However the individuals who led the army were no where to be seen. Just like that the heroes of the war disappeared without a trace. The citizens in gratitude for their valor, decided to build a monument of the ten heroic individuals in the heart of the kingdom where the elders incantation of ''Terraformation'' took place. Immediately after the kingdom was able to recover from its loss, expeditions were made to explore the new world. It was found out that there were 11 new races in the new world of NeoGaea, aside from the Avalonians these were Elves, Beastkins, Dwarves, Orcs, Ogres, Nephilims, Dragonborns, Demigods, Uthopians, Homoculeans and Biomechanoids. The Avalonians were able to immediately establish treaties with the these races and work harmoniously hand-in-hand in preparation for the Worldeaters return. In a span of few years with the combination of advance technology and their knowledge of magic they were able to find a way to create a barrier encasing the wold, permanently prevent the Worldeaters from creating a Voidgate connecting the Void and NeoGaea. For years without fear from any impending invasion, NeoGaea underwent an era of peace. Years turned to decades, and decades turned to centuries. Fear and vigilance against the Worldeaters slowly vanished among the inhabitants of Neogaea, along with it were their reason and will for unity. Greed, insecurities, desire for domination and expansion of territory took over the desire for harmony thus and so the peaceful era was quickly ended, only to be replace by another era of chaos. Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon. Hundreds of year passed filled with cycles of war and conflicts. 700 years since all the races were summoned to NeoGaea, the matter concerning the Worldeaters were long forgotten by everyone in exception for one man. A elderly researcher after loosing his whole family from the war stumbled upon the long forgotten records of his ancestors. The contents were regarding the process protecting the world from contact with the Worldeaters. Engulf with insanity in his quest for vengeance he chose the worst possible course. With the remaining few years of his life he traveled around the world erasing any information connecting to the research. And in the end he sacrificed his life to weaken and create a hole in the barrier that was protecting the world. The world through that small gap, was once again exposed to the threat from the Void. Chapter 1: Return of Real Chaos Chapter 1: Return of Real Chaos N.E. 702 Nephilim City - Canaan A scene of carnage. Screams of despair loomed and permeated the air as the city gates were breached. Monsters surge through the broken gate, some climbed through the walls and others raided by flight. All of them were none other than the Worldeaters, creatures the people thought to be mere myths long forgotten through the ages. Their appearances varied from humanoid insects to Stygian furred wolves and poison-breathing wyverns with only one similarity. They were portrayed by history and legends as creatures invading worlds, devouring all lifeforms around the planet set upon until it is barren. NeoGaea had been there objective once in the past almost sending it into extinction if not for the group of heroes who led the war and manage to claim victory. The Avalonian ancestors with the help of other races were then able to find a way to avoid them from returning again, or so was it was thought. Through centuries with their means of entering this world permanently sealed, these creatures were never able to reappear. But after hundreds of years for some unknown means the Worldeaters reappeared once more preying on humanity. Selecting a place where the Voidgate disrupting force was weakened and the concentrations of mana far exceeds natural quantities, they made a crack in space between their dimension and NeoGaea. After succeeding, they flooded out of the Voidgate from the sky like a hurricane descending unto the ground. Searching for the closest location with inhabitants a city was attacked. The location was within the Nephilim Country Eden still undergoing a civil war between the Angelic and Demonic Nephilim factions. With its main army still away into the battlefield the Kingdom of Caritas, a kingdom inhabited by Angelic Nephilims were caught unprepared by the assault. The monsters outnumbered the city protectors by 1 against 100. The horde charged into the city bringing with them terror and death. Any living creature that crossed their path was devoured or slaughtered. Blood and corpse were scattered painting the streets in red. * * * * * * * * * "Damn. These horses can''t go any faster. Hey all of you there in the back do something to stop those things from chasing us." There were desperate citizens who were able to escape the city, among those who were able to succeed was a carriage containing a group of children. The only adults among them were the driver and a woman carrying an infant. An exemption would be it you include a pair of youth who just had their coming to age ceremony that day. Aside from them all that were remaining were children ranging from ages 4 to 12. All in all there were 16 people in that carriage. The driver was forcing the horses to their limit through the paved roads. The cause of his concern was a crowd of Worldeaters that were chasing the carriage, the group amounted to around 50 creatures with two variations. One was wolf-like with black pelts, the other were reptile like beast covered in carapaces. "We''re already doing out best on it." A girl holding a bow in her hands said. She had turned 18 years old today on her coming to age ceremony only to have an important day in her life turned to a nightmare. Drawing the strings of the bow, she focused her mana to flow toward her hand. Light gathered towards her fingertips and started to compress forming an arrow. After the arrow fully materialized, she immediately let go of it. The arrow flew and multiplied in midair before raining down of the pursuing beast. Those who were hit stumbled on the ground, they manage to stand again but the damage had lowered their speed as the continued their pursuit limping. Next to the girl, a boy 18 also years age compress light into his hands forming a javelin before hurling it towards the monsters. One was struck in the head collapsing into the ground dead. "Agatha is right, but at our current level of skill its it would be very hard to take them all down before they could reached the carriage. Please just concentrate with driving." The boy advised the driver. As if to mock their struggle multiple screeches were heard from afar, winged Worldeaters had joined in pursuit. There appearances were similar to wyverns. "Argh...I can''t believe this. We''re doomed." The woman hushing her baby approached Agatha and spoke to her. "Agatha take my son. I''ll stay behind and block their path as the carriage escapes." "Sister, what are you talking about? Don''t say you will also sacrifice yourself. What about your son? His father had already stayed behind for us to escape, brother Lex said he needs a parent by his side as he grows up. You can''t just leave him alone!" "It is just as what you had said. My husband and his comrades'' sacrifice will be for naught if we all fail to escape and survive. I need to do this." "Then let me also stay and help you Priestess Serina." The boy intruded in the conversation. "No Kyle, you stay here and protect everyone during the whole journey. There still may be dangers in the path ahead." "But-." "No buts. Rather..." There was a glint in Serina''s eyes. "If you really care for everyones well being including mine, by the time your already safe go and marry my sister. You''re both treated as adults now. Take good care of my sister then together with her, during the time of my absence raise my son Akatriel like your own." "Sister, there no time for such jokes!" "Y...ye...yeah, Agatha''s right miss Serina." Both of them admonished in unison. "Oh come on. You both have feelings for each other don''t you. It may already be the end of the world, why not just let it out." "For Agatha to like me? That''s impossible!" "Yeah, Kyle could never hold such romantic feelings towards me!" "Sheesh, your really pushing me to use my aces." Serina opened the bag she was carrying and retrieved some things inside it. "What the...That''s!" Yelped in shock. "Guess what are these Agatha? All the love letters Kyle was unable to give you in the span of eight years. He''s been ogling at you all those years." "Hey don''t read those!" Kyle grabbed the letter before they were passed to Agatha. "Ugh...it now hopeless, she''ll hate me for sure. She''ll never talk to me. I won''t have a chance." Kyle lifelessly moaned in a corner. "Mwhuahaha...I''m not done yeah." Serina declared withdrawing a new batch of items from the bag. "Hey Kyle! Any idea what these are!" "Eep...sister no!!!" It was now Agatha''s turn to be shocked. What was drawn from the bag were: A toothbrush. (Something Agatha found a few days ago.) A ballpoint pen (Bite marks at the other end could be seen, an item Agatha borrowed and forgot to return. Or so she says.) A broken spears bladed end (Souvenir Agatha got in their high school training camp) A kiddie shorts. (Somewhat a souvenir from a summer camp Agatha participated in her elementary days.) "Those stuff looks familiar." "Fufufu...we''ll you see my dear Kyle-kun, this sister of mine have been holding in affection towards you long before you could even discover your attraction to hers. Wearing the your kiddie shorts the day you came back from camp. Thanks for saving her from the off cliff that day my sister wasn''t injured, well rather she fell hard for you. She''s even using your toothbrush and was biting on it this past few days. And oh there''s more to her collection of your stuff back at home if you''d be curious to ask." Kyle turned to see a beet red Agatha, tears flowing in her eyes in embarrassment. "Huk...huk...sister...you didn''t have to go that far." Snot were now running down her nose. "Oy! Our lives are currently in danger right now, we got no time for crazy conversations!" The driver interrupted. "Huuuh!? you dare interrupt me peasant?" Serina gave him a deadly glare. "Uhhh...No ma''am please do continue." He spoke fazed. "Gee...is that woman really from an angelic bloodline? Looks more like a devil to me." "Hey, I can hear your saying that! Hmmm...where were we? Right, so now that you see each other eye to eye, in place of our parents I''m giving you both the blessing of approval for your marriage. Now don''t you dare let this chance pass." "You really did plan this from the start don''t you." Kyle said in astonishment. "Yeah, if anything were to happen to us because of Akatriel''s bloodline someone has to be there to escaped with him. I just didn''t knew I''d be using this for a reason other than escaping the councils'' wrath. Wait, I think I had revealed too much information...hehehe." Reading on this site? "I do intend to live through this ordeal, but if ever I fail to come back please treat him well. He may be hard to raise because he''s special, but Akatriel is truly a good child. Raise him outside the Nephilim kingdom. He deserves to experience being loved by a family and grow just like a normal child." "We understand, I will take the responsibility. Just promise us you won''t die back there." "Sister you must survive. We will be waiting for you." A winged Worldeater has manage to get close enough to the carriage. It released a triumphant screech then folded its wings aiming to swoop down at the vehicle. "Tsk...here take him now Agatha...I really hate those who try to interrupt me while I''m talking. Serina hastily passed her son towards her sister. The infant stated to cry again after he felt himself separated from her mothers arms. "Sister careful with you son!" Agatha spoke flustered while receiving the child. Having her hands free, Serina immediately leaped out of the carriage and intercept the attacker. She compressed light in her hands and flung it to the beast. "Uriel, angel of the sun. Thy guardian of my soul, I call upon thee. Heed my summons and cut thy foes with thou fiery swords. Invoke [Sanctuary of Swords]." There was a bright flash. After the light subsided, all that was left of the beast were minces of meat. Around Serina hundreds sword made of light assembled defending her. The others that followed through the first victims actions suffered the same fate as the swords met them. Surprisingly a couple were able to evade and get pass through the furor of blades. "Damn, even a hundred is not enough." However those who made pass were struck by spears right in the middle of their forehead and crashed to the ground. Witnessing this the Worldeaters were forced to a halt a few distance away from the formation of swords. Meanwhile the carriage continued to speed fast away. "Good work Kyle." Serina silently praised. "Looks like I can''t afford to slacken up here. How about you fight me in this form. [Awakening]." The number of swords of light around her increased by a two folds and in addition to those were three colossal swords of light emerging behind her. "I am Serina Heavensguard Reguleus. Bearer of the title ''Sword of Eden''. I won''t allow any of you to easily get pass me. Its either you die trying or you walk atop my lifeless corpse, come charging here with all your might." The beasts were warily watching her, she can feel their hesitation to attack. Together Worldeaters roared in unison. Lizard-like beast positioned themselves ahead of the horde and shot shards from their body. The wyverns joined in with their poisonous breaths. Serina effortlessly parried the attacks with her swords. The shards were pulverized to dust upon contact with the swords. However the attack was still incomplete. Before the dust could settle two of the wolf-like Worldeaters emerged from the dust-cloud their claws and fangs aimed at her. Serina quickly retracted he swords to form a protective phalanx around her. The Beast were impaled like pieces of meat sticking unto a porcupine made of blades before being torn to shreds. "To think they would use the dust to cover up their approach. Was that mere coincidence?" She felt the Worldeaters observant gazes, as if looking for loopholes in her defense. "I don''t like these feeling. Looks like these creatures are far more intelligent that their ugly appearances show." She muttered. The Worldeaters in the ground once again began to shot projectiles which Serina also deflected. What emerge from the dust cloud this time were not beasts but poison breaths. Serina ordered her colossal sword to block it, the next moment another batch of shards assaulted through the dust cloud. "Now their attacking alternatively. I''m starting to feel irritated with these guys." If only they weren''t Serina''s enemies, she would have admired the way those creatures applied tactics and teamwork. Worldeaters continues their assault without pause, their attacks showing greater precision and rhythm with each succession. Suddenly a dozen of Wolf Worldeaters burst through dust cloud and charged towards her. The hundred sword were busy intercepting the shards so Serina took them down with her two remaining colossal swords. Taking advantage of this, a group of winged Worldeaters tried to break through her blockade. "Don''t underestimate me! Your''e not going anywhere." In a flash, rays of light slashed through the air coming from the colossal swords. Half of the Winged Worldeaters were shot down. As she was preparing for her second wave of attack, the wing beasts suddenly ma a quick turn towards her. At the same moment another group of the wolf creatures broke through the dust cloud. Serina was attacked from four corners and above. "A pincer attack! so this was their intention in the first place." If she retaliates, her back would exposed for an attack. Serina decided to defend and ordered the colossal sword to encircle her forming an enclosed triangular wall. She successfully blocked the attacks from all sides, but now it had sealed her movements. She recalled some of the swords intercepting the bombardment and hacked at the beasts surrounding her. Unbeknownst to her crack were beginning to form below her feet. She was too focused retaliating it took her moments too late to realize as the ground collapsed. Emerging from below were a set of jaws wide open from a lizard Worldeater ready to devour her. "No!" . . . . The dust settled down, in the middle of the Worldeaters the traces of the woman were gone. However, they felt something was amiss. "Phew...looks like I just got here right in time." The voice came from a man, quite a distance away from where the Worldeaters were gathered. In his arms was the woman who should have ended up in the lizard''s belly. "Lex? Why are you here?" Serina spoke bewildered. "The kingdom''s defenses had all fallen, all the city guards as well have been wiped out. There''s no point staying there now. I had covered for those left to give them time to escape before running away myself. Rather, I should be the one asking you why you''re here." The man carrying her spoke with a solemn face. Wounds were allover his body. Serina jumped out off the man''s arms and once again summoned her awakened form keeping the Worldeaters from immediately attacking. "As you could see some Worldeaters were able to spot us outside the city. I had to remain to block the before they could catch up on the carriage." "I see. Sorry for being such a useless husband. I shouldn''t have just seen you off at the gates. What about Akatriel?" "No, your wrong. To stop the horde from reaching the temple while we''re gathering those children. Then even finding someone to provides the carriages as a means to escape. Your''e more capable a husband than I could ever ask. Our son is safe. I left him with my sister and Kyle. He''s in good hands, you can be at ease about that. However the carriage had just left moments ago, the Worldeaters might still be able to catch up on the if they break through especially the winged ones. We''ll have to stall for more time to ensure their safety." "That''s good to hear. Well then, I''ll lend a hand to hold these guys up a bit longer. Much better if we could simply slay them all." Lex faced the monsters and began to chant. "I invoke thee from the darkest pit of hell. Answer thou pact made with thy Demon''s Advocate . Demon of destruction and death, Apollyon. Bring forth holocaust upon thine enemies. Materialize [Soul Thresher]." In his hand materialized an obsidian black scythe releasing an aura of death. the grasses around him began to wither. "[Awakening]." Shadows gathered around Lex. It wrapped around his body like a cloak emitting a sinister atmosphere. Everything near him was swallowed by darkness, malice and corruption. "Nexus Lex Reguleus. Holder of the title ''Grim Reaper'', now here to send you all to your end." Both sides readied their stances preparing themselves for the final clash. The wyvern and lizard Worldeaters assaulted with missile projectiles while the wolves charged in. Serina unleashed a rain of swords and scorching light rays while Lex released a wave of death with a swing of his scythe accompanied by shadow spears coming from the ground. At the very moment the couple had only one thing in their mind. Not a single one shall pass. Their son must remain safe. Chapter 2: The Godsworns Chapter 2: The Godsworns N.E. 702 the war with the Worldeaters began anew. One by one the nephilim kingdoms surrounding the Voidgate were attack. Many were slaughtered and force to leave their kingdoms as the Worldeaters continued to expand their invaded lands, even managing to reach Avalon''s borders. The nephilims after succeeding failures to defend their lands, finally requested help from the other races. With the other countries informed of the situation, help gradually came. With the help of reinforcements from the neighboring elves, avalonians and dwarves, the expansion of the Worldeaters'' territories were stopped. The war was fought out for many years and with the intervention from the other races the invaders were gradually pushed back. By N.E. 709 seven years since the time the they had once again showed up in NeoGaea the Voidgate was finally closed and sealed. The Worldeaters were once more defeated. Ans so whole world thought the crisis has already concluded. But the truth was, it was only the beginning. N.E. 710 a year after humanity''s victory, another Voidgate opened at the borders of Avalon. Alarms were raised and another war began anew. It took another year before the gate was sealed. From then on humanity just knew, that this won''t be the last. * * * * * * * * * * N.E. 7015 Country of Avalon - The Godsworn''s Household within the Kingdom of Athureon Two kids could be seen barging into someones bedroom. "Hey brother wake up. Classes are beginning today!" Angelo Godsworn, a boy 5 years of age, full of energy and possessing an undeniably impish cute face. His hair was pure white, a trait similar to all Angelic Nephilims. "You promised you''d be our guide on our first day!" Seraphina Godsworn, a girl of the same age, she seems to emit an air of a pure innocence and cuteness. Being fraternal twins, their faces were closely identical. The two cheerfully spoke as they try to rouse the person in bed, but their efforts seems to be showing no effect. "Umph! Come on brother! We''re going to be late if you don''t wake up now." "Step aside Phina, let me try this. [Guiding Orb]." An orb of light glowed glowed in midair. The boy controlled it to make it hover towards the face of his brother. The light somehow had an effect making him grunted in discomfort then placing an arm on top of his eyes. "Its not enough, we need something better." "Hey Gelo, how about the one he taught us yesterday?" "Hmmm...that might work. You try it." The boy positioned himself near his brothers head. At his signal he removed the arms covering his face then pried open his eyes as his sister call out the spell. "[Blinding Flare]." Blazing light assaulted the sleeping boy''s eye. There was indeed a reaction, however it was more sever than they had expected. "Gaaaah!!! My eye, it burns!" The boy rolled in pain and fell off the bed headfirst hitting it on the floor in the process. He continued to roll in agony tears brimming in his eyes for quite a while. When he had finally recovered, filled with murderous intent he scanned the vicinity for the culprit and his eyes met the twins. "Seraphina, Angelo! the hell was that for!? I could''ve gone blind." The twin were frozen in place, they had obviously committed the mistake. Tears were now starting to form on Phina''s eyes. "Uuu...we didn''t mean to do harm. W..we were just trying to wake you up." "B..brother Akatriel...p..please don''t scold Phina, it was my idea in the first place." Hearing the twins did it without such ill intent. Akatriel wiped of the beads of moisture that had accumulated in his eyes and tried to calm himself. If he thought about it deeply, he should also be at fault for not properly orienting the two about the spell. All the magics he had taught them so far were supportive spells like heal and purification. It won''t be a surprise if they had treated the disabling spell [Blinding Flare] as also a support type. "(sign)...Most the spells I have taught you were means to aid your comrades. However the one you had just used aims to do the opposite. From now on promise me you would only use that when you or your friends are in danger." The twins obediently nodded. "Good. Now enough with those solemn faces, go ahead and have your breakfast. I''ll just take a bath and catch up with you." "Okay." "Take your time brother." Warily the pair inched toward the exit. Before the could leave the room a thought came to Akatriel. "Didn''t I locked the door from the inside last night. How did they got in?" He immediately inspected the door and found the reason. The doorknob was lying on the floor, to the part of the door where it should have been attached was a hole. Such a coincidence it is that the damage was quite similar to what the second spell he had taught them yesterday. Blood vessels bulged on his forehead. Before he could issue another sermon, the two speed pass his side running downstairs. "Aah!!!" Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings."Eep!!!" "You ruffians! Who told you to use [Piercing Light] this way. Get back here you two!" Akatriel yelled out in frustration at the escaping duo. * * * * * * * * * * After finishing his bath, Akatriel headed downstairs and sullenly joined the family''s breakfast. His head was still hurting from the fall and a lump could be seen on his forehead. "Come on Akatriel, its not something [Restoration] spell cannot repair. Cut your siblings some slack." With a soothing tone, Agatha Godsworn calmed his son while massaging the lump. Agatha Godsworn a woman now on her early thirties and caring and dedicated mother of three. She is currently working in the capital''s Round Table Academy as a Teacher in Advanced Holy Magics. "(sigh)...I''m not angry mom...I''m just a bit disappointed they broke my door with the magic I''ve taught them myself." "Hahaha...kids will be kids son, as their elder brother you''ve got to have some more patience." Kyle said as he was wolfing upon a slab of stake. His big built and unshaven face making him look like a papa bear lecturing his cub. Kyle Godsworn. Despite being a Nephilim, he was assigned as the capital army''s commander-in-chief by the end of the second war with the Worldeaters in N.E. 711. This was after the avalonians witness how he slaughtered hundreds of Worldeaters during the Siege of Gwalchmai Kingdom while protecting the house where his wife was giving birth. "Your father''s right. If your grumpy all the time you''ll get wrinkles. Pair it with your gray hair you''ll be a real grandpa in no time at all." A pair of childish giggles. "A grandpa." Phina innocently echoed the remarked. "Yeah, an odd-eyed grandpa." Angelo agreed. The whole household was filled with laughter. A nephilim''s hair should be pure white or black depending on their bloodline. However since Akatriel''s blood was the mix of both, he has somehow acquired a hair having the blend of both colors. Also, due to some event that happened 5 years ago his right eye that was originally azure had changed into an amethyst hue. His looks was weird enough that his family began to tease him odd-eyed grandpa for fun. Due to the circumstance he was also often mistaken as an Avalonian since the race possess the said heterochromic traits. "Hey stop that! Its not my fault my hair looks gray. And don''t you try to change the subject you brats." Remembering their crime, the pair quieted down and hung their heads. "Jokes aside, your brother has a point. Magic isn''t something you should carelessly use. So...as a punishment in order for you to learn from your mistake, you are suspended from your magic lessons with your brother. You will be only able to attend sessions with him again once you learn how to use [Restoration] spell and repair the door. On your own of course. I think that would enough of a punishment." "Fair enough. That will do." Akatriel agreed. "Awww...dad that''s too harsh." The twins protested in unison. "That decision is final. Now come on and finish your breakfast. You''re going to be late for the opening ceremony." "(Moan)...brother please forgive us. We won''t do it again." Both pleaded with moist eyes. (Ugh...how could I resist these cute fiends.) The thought materialized in Akatriel mind. (No. no. no. I have to be stern.) "I won''t be swayed, you will receive the punishment father issued." Their tears were now in the verge of falling. "But, if you manage to complete the task I might teach you a highly advanced spell." (ugh...that''s it I can''t resist them.) Their expressions rapidly headed into an opposite direction. "Really. You would?" "What kind of spell? Is it the one you use to transform? "Uhm...not quite but close to that." "Yay!" They happily cheered together. Regaining their enthusiasm the finished of their breakfast and delivers them to the washroom. Agatha followed behind them. "Despite that stern face of yours, you really like to spoil your siblings. If only your true parents could see you today, they would surely be proud to have such a loving son." "May they be my cousins or sibling. I would still treat them as real brother and sister, there''s no changing that. Besides those two are geniuses, nothings bad if I spoil them a little. What they learn from me in advance could absolutely help them in the future." "Hehe. What was the point of my worry all this time. Wait, what was the spell your planning to teach them?" "[Symbolic Summoning]." "Hey. Aren''t you not pushing it to far?." "Nah. I''ll just replace it with something easier if they fail. But even I was able to do it when I was for. If I could so can they." "Fine, do as you like. Just to take well care of them while doing it." Both father and son finished up their plate. After cleaning up everything they the whole family left their home for school and work. And thus, another peaceful morning the Godsworn''s household was completed. Chapter 3: Old and New Acquaintances Chapter 3: Old and New Acquaintances "Is it true that there are many other races attending the academy?" "Is mother also going to be one of your teachers?" "Brother, your going to be among the top students in your class right?" "Will Drake be our schoolmate?" "And will her sister Elise be you classmate again?" "Who were those giant monuments back there in the middle of the city square?" "Yes. No. Maybe. Yes. Maybe. And...those were the fabled heroes who helped banished the Worldeaters all over the world during their Ancient war with the avalonian ancestors centuries ago." Akatriel was bombarded with questions while on their way to the academy. "Guys take it easy on your brother. Regarding why your brother isn''t required to attend my classes, your elder brother had already mastered Advanced Holy Magics under my guidance years ago." Their mother chimed in into the conversation. "That''s why after his excellent performance during the school''s entrance exam, the academy exempted him from subjects related to Holy Arts. He could''ve exempted other subjects if he were serious that time." "Geez, don''t praise me to much. I''m not that good enough. There were others better than me that time." Akatriel spoke flushed. "Wow, brother''s so cool!" Angelo gazed at his brother with a worshiper''s eyes. "Can we also be exempted him?" "Hmmm...that''s too early to find out, since subjects related to Holy Arts starts at third grade. But if you manage to reach the level your brother has attained by the time your reach that age, of course you could be exempted." Agatha stated a matter of fact. The group arrived at the academy''s gates. The huge letters were displayed on the signboard on top of it ''Royal Academy of the Round Table''. The ''Royal Academy of the Round Table'' more commonly called as "The Round Table Academy''. It is an academy built with a goal to raise elite future chivalrous knights and wizards for Avalon''s main kingdom, Pendragon. The academy boasts its proficiency in producing talented graduates loyal to the ''Code of Chivalry'' it indoctrinates. The top students in this academy were even treated as elites among all elites throughout the world once they had graduated. After the new era''s second war with the Worldeaters, the academy decided to also begin to accepting admissions from other races. "Alright, I''ll be heading to the faculty room. Akatriel, please show your siblings the way to the preschooler''s building." "No problem." he agreed. Akatriel and the twins then separated with their mother. They were on their way to the building when suddenly a running kid blindly bumped into Phina sending them both onto the ground. Akatriel immediately came to their aid healing their scratches with magic. "Hey kid don''t go running around the walkways. Are you both okay?" "I''m fine brother." Phina assured him. "Yes, I''m fine as well, thank you brother Akatriel." the boy thanked him. "Oh...Drake, its you." Drake Moonspell a blonde kid around his sibling''s age. He has a green and red pair of eyes, and pointed ears as a result of having an elf mother and avalonian father. "Since you''re here then that means..." "Huff...huff...Hey wait for me Drake. Stop being hasty and refrain from running away!" A girl approached them. "Yo, Elise. Long time no see." Elise Moonspell, Drake elder sister. Also a half elf with a gold and silver pair of eyes. The siblings were the offspring of Mathias "a''Lincoln" Flambard, the academy''s current president and Celia Myrddin Flambard a daughter of an elf noble belonging to Elven Faerie Council. Mr. Mathias got the ''a''Lincoln'' epithet after marrying her wife. The name originated from Tom a''Lincoln, a son of the legendary King Arthur who also married a faerie queen in the Arthurian legends. "Oh! it the Godsworn siblings. You neighbors sure left early in the morning." She greeted Akatriel then immediately turned to her younger brother and saw his dirtied uniform from the fall. "Drake! what happened to your clothes? Did something happen? Are you hurt?" "He was running this way and collided with Phina. They both fell on the ground and got some scratches. Don''t worry I had already healed them with magic." "Is that so? Oh well then. Phina, please don''t forget to say sorry to Drake." "Shouldn''t it be the other way around you BROCON!?" Akatriel complained. "Hey! You take that back." "Then have your brother say sorry." "Eh? How could my brother be at fault?" "He''s the one who bumped at my sister." "Its her fault for not looking at where she''s heading. She could''ve stepped aside back then." "You dumb nut!" "Shut up old man!" "Nope, Sister was the one at fault." It was drake. Before the dispute escalated he decided to step in. When its hard to decide between the two, then why not just blame another person? "Yeah, maybe she keeps on insisting on carrying him on her shoulders again all the way to school." Phina seconded the motion. "Wow. Such a clingy sister." Angelo brutally added. "So Drake wouldn''t actually have bumped at my sister if he wasn''t running away from the bothersome sister of his." Akatriel finished the combo. "Kuh...ganging up on me, that''s unfair you guys. (moan)...fine. fine. I''m sorry. I can''t have my little brother hating me." Angelo snickered. The remaining pair also laugh at the funny situation, Unable to suppress their own laughter Akatriel and Elise joined in. "Don''t worry. Despite her being weird I still love my sister ." "I love you too Drake...Marry me!" She responded earning her stony gazes and a hit on the head from Akatriel. (That girl. No wonder his brother would always feel the urge to run away.) Akatriel thought at the back of his mind. "Alright guys lets leave this weirdo behind, the 8 o'' clock bell''s about to ring. We still have to wash of those dirt from your clothes before the ceremony starts." Akatriel monotonously spoke and ushered them to their building while abandoning the unconscious lump on the walkway. * * * * * * * * * * The opening ceremony was concluded and the students started to proceed to their respective classroom. "Hey you old man!" Akatriel heard the provoking voice behind him. "What is it this time Miss Brother Complex?" "Oh!!! your really pissing me of!" "Here, catch." Akatriel threw something at her which she caught wit both hands. "What''s this? Giving me an ice pack after hitting me on the head? You think I''d forgive you just like that!" "That''s not from me, its from your worried brother." "Oh, REALLY? then I''ll gladly accept it. Thanks for the delivery, but I''m still not forgiving you yet." Elise happily applied the pack on her head. "Like I care, come on lets go." "Huh, where to?" "To the classroom. Haven''t you checked the sections list yet?" "You knocked me out didn''t you? How could I checked while passed out." "Sheesh...were in the same section. First year section A-1 is this way." He said walking away. "Hmmm. What''s the scheduled subjects for today?" "Its ''History'' in the morning to be followed by ''Combat Tactics'' in the afternoon. Everyone in the section is to head at the open fields later in the afternoon after changing to their combat uniforms." "Ohoho...looks like I''ll be able to get my revenge later." "Well in your dreams, that is." "You sure are confident are you? Why, how much have you gotten stronger since the last time?" "Lets leave that for later shall we. We''re here." They arrived to their classroom as the bell for the first class rang. Akatriel entered the room then headed at the seat nearest to the windows up on the front row. Elise sat at the seat behind him. "If your planning to do something stupid, I''ll send you back to dreamland." "Why would I. I got all the time for that later." "Just making sure." The teacher entered the room ending their conversation. She was a avalonian woman in her late twenties, her eye colors were orange and brown and her long black hair suited with her slim built. "Hello everyone, I''m Miss Caelia Joan Historia. I had worked a minstrel in my early days before I was hired by the academy as a teacher. Starting today I''ll be the one teaching you in your history subjects. So with no further a due, shall we start with your introductions?" One by one the students introduced themselves. Akatriel notice that there were more races other than avalonians in there class. Compared to last year having only a quarter of the class coming from the other races, the current poll shows that there are now more than half of then in total. "Looks like the academy is also starting to gain a higher reputation to the other countries." he muttered to himself. Miss Caelia then proceeded with the class. The class was focused on covering the subjects starting from the Ancient war with the Worldeaters up to the years following the Terraformation event. Details about the Ten Fable Heroes were the first topics of the discussion followed by the summoning of different races. While deep in thought Akatriel felt someone observing him. When he scanned the room the feeling just vanishes and he couldn''t find who was the source of that feeling. Once he turns his gaze back in front, the feeling immediately comes back making him search for the culprit again. The cycle repeated a couple more times frustrating him. (Is someone making fun of me?) He thought. He was in his wits end until...(sniff), (sniff)...the culprit began sniffing on him revealing her location. It was as a matter of fact just the girl seated next to him. Judging from her looks she is from the dragonborn race. She had lavander scales rather than skin. Her eyes were also reptilian, moreover it futher shows a proof of her begin actually a crossbreed, the left was amber and the right scarlet. If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation. She was still curiously sniffing when he turn to her and gave a inquiring look. "Umm...Is there a problem? Do I stink or what?" He tried to ask. The dragon girl was taken aback after realizing what she was doing and hesitated before finally giving a reply. "Oh, sorry. Nothing, you just kinda smelled familiar somehow." "Smelled? Shouldn''t it be ''looked familiar'' rather than smelled?" "Nope, I don''t remember your face at all. Only your scent was familiar to me...I think. No need to be troubled about it, I might just be mistaken." "Okay, sure then." It was followed by an akward silence. "By the way, I''m Akatriel Godsworn. Nice meeting you." "Corvelia H?lle-Fl¨¹gel. Same here." The teacher noticed the pairs idly chatting during her class. "The last of humanity then finally decided to used the world spell ''Terraformation'' as a last resort. Akatriel." The teacher called out his name. "Yes ma''am?" "Can you tell me who were they and their distinction from the other races that later came." "They should be the Avalonians. As for their distinction from the other races. First, they are born with heterochromia iridium or the differences in the coloration of the irises. Second would be their innate talents that emerges after reaching the age of four. For example suddenly acquiring incredible combat finesse, inherent survival skills, herculean strength and so on. They are a race also known to be the second race with the highest affinity to magic second to the elves." "Well said." "Then, Could you give me how many races were summoned into NeoGaea?" "I believe there were eleven." "Okay. Miss Corvelia. How about you, could you tell us about your race?" "Uhm, yes. The dragonborns, they are half-breed offsprings resulting from the the union between dragon and human. Originally in incomplete human form, the dragonborns when old enough have the ability to transform into their dragon forms fully acquiring the might, abilities and attributes of the dragon specie running in their blood. They are ranked fifth in the races with affinity to magic." "Good. I appreciate it that you answered my questions well. But please refrain from having conversations while I''m talking here in front and pay attention to the lecture." the teacher admonished them. "We understand." "Our apologies ma''am. "Well who else could give me the other races and their traits." With that the lecture continued for two more hours before the class was dismissed. * * * * * * * * * * "Hey, want to have lunch together?" Elised asked Akatriel. "Together with you? No need I''m eating my lunch by myself." Akatriel declined the offer. "What a waste, its your first day as a freshmen you should be eating with a friend. I''m a childhood friend of yours afterall." "Even then, I''d rather ask somebody else." "And who would you ask to have lunch with? All of these guys are still strangers to us." Elise has a point, all the friends they had in middle school were assigned on the other sections. He''s got no one else to ask except...of course! "Hey Corvelia, want to have lunch together?" Akatriel asked the person on the next seat. "Huh. I''m not sure about that, everybody seems scared to have lunch with me. Won''t eating with me just give you a bad image?" "Don''t worry, it''s still better than eating with someone who has a brother complex." "Hey! What did you say!?" "I meant that I''d rather eat with her rather than with a incest." "You''re really pushing it!." "Stop it. Why don''t we just eat together then." Corvelia suggested. In the end. It was decided that the three of then will have lunch together. * * * * * * * * * * The place the chose to have lunch was a shade among the trees beside the school building. While they were finishing their lunch when Akatriel saw an orb of light approaching his way, it was from a [Guiding Light] spell. Following behind it in a sprint were three kids he''s familiar with. "Hey why are you here? Shouldn''t you be having lunch at the preschooler''s canteen?" He inquired. "Brother look at this." Angelo pulled out a broken pencil from his pocket. Showing it to his brother he chanted. "[Restore]." The pencil that was broken in half floated in midair. The severed parts then connected and was mend as if brand new." "Phina can do it too." He said feeling proud with themselves. "We''re released from punishment now right?" "Of course you are. But how did you manage to learn it?" "We borrowed a intermediate spell book from the library." Phina explained. "Oh? But I thought the library doesn''t simply allow preschoolers to borrow those kinds of books?" "It was Drake who helped us convince the librarian." Angelo pointed out. "Oh I see, so they would likely allow the son of the principal to borrow those books huh. That explains it." Corvelia drawed near the trio with curiousity. The kids regarded her back with the same feedback. "To be not feared by my appearance. Wow, you guys sure are amazing, and so cute." She eyed them with pure awe then hugged them tightightly while rubbing her cheeks on theirs. "Ummmm...so moe!!!" she squealed in delight. Akatriel didn''t expect dragonborns have this soft side. "Uhmm. Brother who''s the lizard lady?" the twins asked in puzzlement. "Ah. Guys that is Corvelia, she''s anew friend of mine. Corvelia, these are my siblings Angelo and Seraphina. The blonde boy is Elise''s brother Drake." The dragonborn lets go of them with a satisfied face. "Nice meeting you. I''m a single child in my family so I often wonder how it feels like to have siblings. If you don''t mind you can treat me like a big sister too." "Sure miss Corvelia." Phina agreed. "Yeah, no problem." The two boys also agreed. Elise approached his brother from behind and gave him a hug too. "Sister stop hugging me!" Drake said in resistance. "Eh? It unfair that only Corvelia gets to hug you. Give you big sister a quality time too." She childishly protested. "Ugh...Sister is being clingy again." Akatriel decided to give him help this time. "Hey Elise how about we have a bet for this afternoon''s class." "And what would it be?" "If you win the bet, I''ll teach you the adept holy magics you''ve always asked for." "Oh? Are you sure with that? You won''t be able to beat me once I''ve mastered your specialty." "Of course it okay. In exchange if I get a higher score in the class later, you''ll allow Drake to have a sleep over at our house so I could teach him magic too. Besides he has helped my siblings with their problem, I have to repay him in their behalf.." He explained "You also need to learn magic to be a Magic Knight right? Drake." Akatriel added with a wink. Seeing through Akatriel''s real intention Drake happily agreed. "Of course I''d want to." "Huh? What? Do you plan to deprive me of my brother?" "Don''t say your chickening out." "Urk...you geezer. Bring it on. Your adept magic will be mine." "So that means it''s a deal then. I won''t be so sure about winning if I were you though." The lunch break ended and the trio left wishing Akatriel luck. They already seemed immersed with the thought of Drake camping out at their home. (Well looks like I have expectations from the kids to meet.) The freshmen also went to their respective room and changed into their battle gears. Every year it has been a tradition in the combat class to have a graded competition on the first day. Akatriel got excited at the thought of having the opportunity in facing other races. "At last. Lets see how much I''ve improve since last year!" Energized he headed to the academy''s open grounds. Chapter 4: Tag-team Chapter 4: Tag-team Every opening of the school year, it has been a practice in the Round Table academy to have a competition for the freshmen on their first day in ''Combat Tactics'' class. Its main aim is to enable the teachers to evaluate the new section''s skills as a whole as well as to give the freshmen the chance to interact and get to know each other better. Hence all the freshmen were instructed to gather at the open field. On the field''s corner were areas with markings used for field combat practices. The students began to assemble themselves there. In front of them was their assigned subject teacher. He was a a brawny man covered in battle worn armor. His face was unshaven and he had a scar on side of his left cheek running down to his chin. Next to him were two women in nurse uniforms. "Attention here! Everyone listen up. My name is Geraldus de Caulmont, from this day onward I''ll be the one in charge in training you on things related to combat. The women next to me is the school''s head nurse, Ms. Joan Seigfield and her assistant Ms. Anne Neville. They are presently here to assist in case somebody gets injured related to the event." "Hello, It''s nice meeting you all here. We will fix any kind injuries you receive in no time so please do give all your best and leave rest to us. " The nurses presented themselves with a bow before retreating to the back to prepare some first aid equipment. Heart shapes could be seen among the eyes of some male students. "I believe all of you already have a hunch as to the reason why you''ve been gathered here, so I''m currently expecting that all of you came here well prepared for it. Now, any questions?" Geraldus scanned the crowd but not one dared to ask so he continued with his speech. "Well then. Since there are no questions, we will now begin with the duo combat matches. We will have the matches held as usual in a laddered tournament style." The crowd was filled with commotion. "Eh? What usual? shouldn''t it be one-on-one matches?" "This sucks. I don''t like others holding me down." "This is different from the previous years." "Does that mean we have to fight in pairs?" "Why would they suddenly change the rules for this year." "Hey, team-up with me!" The teacher sucked in a deep breath. "EVERYONE PIPE DOWN! There had been issues since were having more freshmen accepted this year. With your current section''s numbers, having a ladder tournament of one-on-one battles is going to take too much time. So, the principal has instead decided to turn into a duo match. After all you are to sooner or later form permanent team squads before the end of midterms, so use this opportunity prove your capabilities to the other students and to scout for possible future team members." Akatriel nudged Elise. "Hey, looks like this ones up my alley. Better withdraw now while you can." He is currently wearing a gray cloak over a chain mail. I has cross symbol on its left chest. "Not so fast geezer. I still got cards on my sleeves." Meanwhile Elise is wearing a aquamarine robe. On her left hand was a white staff made of moonoak with a stardust gem as its core. "We''ll see whose got more aces. I''ll be looking forward to see how you''ve improved during the break." Geraldus placed a wooden box containing numbered balls on the grass. "Now, all of you find a partner and draw a number from this box. Those numbers would indicate your team numbers." "Better find a good partner now BroCon." "Tsk...tsk...You bet." she said as she walked away from him. "Hey you! You look capable, pair up with me?" (Hmmm...now who would I chose to be my partner. If it were not for the bet Elise would have been the best candidate. After all, if you put aside her attitude towards her brother she''s actually a genius mage.) Akatriel thought to himself. A Beastkin youth approached him while he was looking around for a someone to ask. He was about to accept the invitation to pair up but a suddenly girl then came to his view. She was in a battle armor, not a bulky one but a light and compact type which allows one to move around freely. Her helm was designed to appear dragon-like. On her left hand was a gauntlet depicting a dragon''s upper head and on her left was a claw formed like dragon jaws. She looked like she was having trouble finding a partner. Every time she tries to approach someone the other person immediately declines. Akatriel politely rejected the Beastkin''s and decided to approached her. "Wow, your equipment looks cool. It''s screaming like ''hey I''m a fearsome Dragon Warrior''!" "Was that a compliment or a sarcasm?" Corvelia asked with a sour mood. "That was a praise." "?" Corvelia just continued to stare at him blankly. "Promise. You really look awesome." Akatriel honestly spoke his mind. "By the way, did you chose them yourself?" "No, my mother was the one who chose this set. At the very least, I''m glad you didn''t think it looks weird." "You seemed to have trouble finding a partner, wanna pair up?" "Huh? Are you sure about that? The others were avoiding me for a reason you know." "Yeah I noticed that. Is there an explanation behind it?" "Well, I have a reputation for having some tendency to go out of control in a battle. My dragonborn bloodline is also making that reputation worse." "After your interaction with my siblings I''m finding it hard to believe that." "There''s another reason for that too. Still, are you sure with your decision?" "Of course. Who wouldn''t want to have a strong Dragonborn for a partner." "So you belong to those glass-half-full types. Okay then, In return I''ll help you win that bet. And if we do really win, I''d be grateful if you''d also tell the kids of my good deed in helping them get Drake''s stay-over." "Deal. Then, lets go and get ourselves listed as partners." They proceeded to registered their names as a pair, while doing so some of the other students were casting Akatriel pitiful looks as if they were sorry for him being a sacrificial lamb. He decided to let it be and drew their number. They got a number seven. The start of the first round of matches were announced. With 32 students in their sections 16 pairs were made, pairs one to eight will be the first groups to have the matches at the same time. Akatriel and Corvelia''s current opponents were team 8 who were a orc and ogre pair. Corvelia position herself upfront with Akatriel on her rear for support. Before the fight he already briefed her with the battle plan. "Once the start signal is given just close your eyes for a brief moment, I''ll disable them with a blinding spell. After that you can attack as you like, I''ll take care of the defense and disabling the enemies. If your initial attack fails I''ll also dive in to assist." Their match began and ended within a mere few second interval. Right immediately when the signal was given, Corvelia dashed towards the opponents while doing as told. As the two enemies also proceeded to intercept her, Akatriel casted [Light Barrier] upon her followed up by a [Blinding Flare]. Corvelia then seeing them impaired took the advantage to position herself behind them to knock them unconscious before they could even recover. Thus, Akatriel found out she could actually deal a heavy blow enough to take down an ogre twice her size. Their armors were even pierced from the impact. "Wow, your really strong when you go all out." "Uhh..." "Hmm? What is it?" "Actually, I was still holding my punches back there." Scary. So that''s what the others fear about her, but wouldn''t it be better if they teamed up with her then than being her foe? One by one the other matches had also ended. The next batch then took over. The pair settled themselves near where Elise and her partner will have their match in order for them to have a good view and observe them. Elise''s partner was a crossbreed between an elf and a homoculean. He was wearing a red vest and wasn''t carrying a weapon, perhaps he specializes in hand combat. "Alright I''ll take care of this match. You just stand there on the back for a bit." Elise confidently declared. "Fine, suit yourself." he casualy repied. "Hey aren''t you being too confident here? You better think twice before asking for a two against one." her opponent, a feline Beastkin girl mocked her. "Let''s just get on with the match shall we." She nonchalantly said. "We''ll make you regret that decision of your then. Don''t you cry on us if you lose." it was the feline Beastkin''s partner, a girl with a pair of bunny ears. The teacher announced the beginning of the matches. The rabbit girl immediately rushed towards Elise while her partner chases far behind chanting a spell. Elise intercepted her with the spell [Grasping Vines] stopping her on her advance. At the same time the cat girl activated her spell [Liger''s Claw], mana condensed around her hand and formed into razor-sharp claw as she swipe with her hand shredding the vines constricting her partner. The author''s tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. The rabbit girl then casted an enhancement spell [Enhanced Finesse]. The pair then attacked Elise from opposite sides. "Got you." The pair triumphantly declared. "Who''s got who?" Suddenly something transformed within Elise. Her blonde hair turned Sky Blue and the cheerful aura she was emitting also changed into something cold as if the girl was winter herself. Hers expression were impassive as she activated succession of magic spells from her staff. First was "[Ice Wall]." The two beastkins approach was deterred by the wall. Before the could retreat another spell [Frozen Grounds] binding their feet with the ice covered ground preventing their escape. "Sorry but its MY win, [Chilling Touch]." she affirmed as she casts the final spell encasing the pair in ice. "Hmpt...Easy victory." "Winner of this match, team 13 Elise Moonspell and Varin Bloodtalon." The teacher announced ad the nurse proceeded to thaw the other team from the ice blocks. Akatriel and Corvelia met up with them after their match. "Nice fight you had there. It''s been quite some time I have seen you Erine." Akatriel greeted as he approached the winner of the match. "Yeah, I agree with that OLD MAN." "Hey I''m trying to be nice here. Don''t be hostile." "Sorry, can''t do that. Unless the bet is concluded your treated as my nemesis, I can''t lose my brother to you." coldly replied. "Geez, how come your personalities change but no matter which personality takes over that brother complex of yours remain." he complained. "Uhm. Akatriel, would you bother explaining the situation." Corvelia asked confused. "Well you know that Avalonians acquire a unique innate ability when they reach a certain age right." "Yeah?" "Somehow Elise obtained MPD* causing her to develop multiple personalities. Erine is her second personality, she specializes in ice magic while Elise whom you met earlier specializes in nature magic." "It''s the first time I''ve ever met such a case." "Well Elise''s ability is considered rare after all. Which reminds me you''re also have Avalonian bloodline right? What ability did you obtain? "Oh, mine is just the ability to detect presence. What is yours?" "Huh?" "I''m asking what''s your Avalonian ability?" "He doesn''t have any, cause he''s not Avalonian but a Nephilim" Erine stated. "But what''s with the eyes? And aren''t Nephilims suppose to have a pure white or black hair?" "My eyes are just simply heterochromic for some reason. As for my hair that''s another story. I''ll tell you about it next time. But for not we got to get moving. The matches are about to begin and we''re up next." "I understand, then bye for now Erine nice meeting you." "The pleasures mine too." Erine''s hair started to change back to being blonde. "Good luck on your next match, do your best okay. The other guys wants to experience fighting you too. We''re not gonna let you win though." Recovering control over her body, Elise cheerfully encouraged them. "I still find her ability weird. How many personalities does she have?" Corvelia curiously asked. "Last year I fought her she had five. However there''s no telling if new ones came up." "Eh? That many? How are we suppose to find a way to fight each?" "Let worry about that later. For now, lets concentrate with the current match." The two went ahead to faced their next opponents, this time a pair of brawny Biomechaniod boy and redhaired Uthopian girl. When the match began, it was now the opponents who took the initiative to strike first. Corvelia intercepted them with a fire breath, blocking their path with flames. However the Uthopian jumped in directly into the flames, controlling them she compressed the flames into a fireball within her hand before sending it back at Corvelia. The fireball exploded on impact but Corvelia emerged from them unscathed due to her resistance to fire. Akatriel then sent a volley of [Piercing Light] Spell from behind. The Biomechanoid intercepted the beams heading toward her partner positioning and himself in between them. He then activated a kinetic force-field from his palm cancelling the attack. After blocking all the projectiles, he took out a miniature sphere from the pack he was carrying. The sphere expanded in a touch of a button and changed into a missile launcher. A dozen of explosive rockets were launched auto-locked at Akatriel and Corvelia. "!!!" "Take cover behind me." Akatriel called out and activated a spell after Corvelia retreated. "[Light Barrier]." "Akatriel, I''ll take care of the Uthopian esper with pyrokinesis. Try to distracting the Biomechanoid." "On it. [Piercing Light]." He agreed sending another volley of magic. "That won''t work." The Biomech countered again with a force field. "How about this. [Light Shackles]." Chains of light emerged from the ground where the Biomech was standing and warped around his body as he tried to block the light beams. After fully entangling on him, the chains started to pull him down unto the ground. "The harder you resist the more the chain tightens." "You pesky cleric. I can still pull my trigger." "Not a chance. [Blinding Flare]." The opponents'' visions was impaired making them unable to retaliate. When they had regained their vision, Akatriel was already sprinting towards him. Kicking off the ground, he somersaulted in midair landed on the already kneeling opponent. "Oomph...!!!" The biomech grunted as he finally drop on the ground faced down due to Akatriel''s weight and the tugging chains. The Redhead tried to attack Akatriel but before she could do so, she was knocked away by Corvelia''s charge. She tried to retaliated with a barrage of fireballs. Corvelia rushed through them and released her fire breath. The attacks seemed futile against each other showing little effects. However the victor was clearly decided once they were already in close combat as Corvelia overpowered her with sheer brute strength. The Dragonborn knocked her out after giving her a few blows in the head. "Argh. Damn it." the Biomech tried to break free but interrupted his effort after a spear made of light was pointed in between his eyes by Akatriel. "Do you still wish to continue?" "Ugh...I surrender." "Team seven wins the match." The teacher announced. "Yeah, another win." Akatriel declare giving Corvelia a high-five. "Two matches down, two more to go!" "So lame, your still not showing your new spells." Elise currently with a red hair, complained at the two as she and her partner were leaving the combat area. They had just won their second match against a Demigod and Dwarf pair. As usual she had beaten them both by herself. "There no reason for us to reveal our trump cards if we don''t have to." Akatriel responded. "Uhh...who is she this time?" Corvelia tapped at Akatriel. "That personality is Esire, a brother complex afflicted tomboy addicted to Yaoi romances." "Hey. What''s wrong with daydreaming BL romances between me and my lil'' bro." "Heck, you''re not even a bona fide man to be qualified for BL in the first place. "Sheesh. Shut up." Esire blocked him off and faces Corvelia. "Yo, Corviee. Let me reintroduce myself, my current personality''s name is Esrirae. I specialize with fire magic." "It''s nice to meet you Esire." "And oh, just to warn you. Beware of your next opponents, there far different from the others you''ve fought so far." "Huh, why? What''s so special about them?" "One of them is currently a candidate in succeeding his father as the member of the Knights of Round Table. And the other is from the family serving the kingdoms as elite royal guards. Be careful in fighting against them " "Team 7, Akatriel Godsworn and Corvelia H?lle-Fl¨¹gel. Proceed now to the combat area for your next match." their teacher Geraldus'' announcement for the third match was heard from afar. "Lets go Corvelia." Akatriel called out. "Okay. Good luck in advance for the next match Eli...I mean Esire." "You too. Lets meet in the final match and find out whose the superior flame user between us." "You bet, I won''t lose against you." Akatriel and Corvelia once again enter the combat area for their next match. * * * * * * * * * * * - Multiple Personality Disorder Chapter 5: Berserker Chapter 5: Berserker "Alright let the battle for the semi-finals match begin." Geraldus roared the start signal. Their opponents are currently both pure Avalonians one was blonde and the other had a chestnut colored hair. Both of them are wearing high quality armors. The chestnut haired guy was wearing a heavy armor with a finely designed sword on his left hand and a wide shield of his right. The blond guy was rather wearing a lighter armor and was wielding dual swords instead of a sword and shield. Corvelia charged at the opponents. The two retaliated by slashing their swords producing wind blades "[Cutting Wind]." She dodge by sidestepping to the left then Akatriel behind her released a [Blinding Flare]. Corvelia then rushed in to complete the routine. However as she came into close contact with them, they show no signs of being dazed. This caught her unprepared giving her no time to avoid another wind blade they had released. "[Light Barrier]." Akatriel called out the defensive spell. A screen of light intercepted the attack in front of her canceling it upon contact and letting her escape unscathed. "[Light Shackles]." Akatriel then invoked a rooting spell. However before the spell could completely activate, the enemy has already jumped away from targeted location. "[Burning Claws]." Corvelia used this opportunity to rush at the person still in midair and slashed with her fiery claw blades aiming at his abdomen. His companion intercepted from behind parrying the attack with his sword. Her target then was able to land on the ground and retaliated with an upward slash. Corvelia took second too late as jump back, she won''t be able to completely evade the counterattack. "[Piercing Light]." A beam of light struck the sword changing its current course. Robert released another wind blade, this time directed at Akatriel not giving him a chance to cast another barrier. "Shit." Akatriel cursed as he tumble to get away from the attack''s path. When he had recollected himself, he saw Corvelia already recieved a deep wound on her left shoulder and leg. "Corvelia pull back. [Light Shackles]." Akatriel called out and summoned a field of chains between her partner and the enemy. "[Heal]." He then came to the limping girl''s side and applied healing magic on her wounds. The cuts healed within a matter of seconds. "How were they able to negate all the attacks?" "I don''t know. But for some reason, I got the feeling that they were able to predict our actions before we could even perform them." Akatriel released another [Piercing Light] and as expected, the enemies were able to predict his attack beforehand and avoided it. "Moreover they were able to evenly trade attacks with you despite the supposed difference in the strength between races. Unless their possessing herculean innate ability, those armors are most likely enchanted with high level magic to enhance their physical strength. "Akatriel Godsworn and Corvelia H?lle-Fl¨¹gel isn''t it? I commend you great skill and capabilities but I''m telling you now, you''ve got a very slim chance in defeating us." The blonde guy spoke to them. "Did you understand what the guy was trying to say?" Akatriel asked his partner. "Sorry, I couldn''t manage to. I did hear him mentioned our names though, is he a friend of yours?" "Nope. Never met him. Haven''t even heard of him." He denied. "Urk...this guys are pissing me off. For you to know, I am Edward du Lac son of the duke Richard du Lac a descendant of the great Sir Lancelot. A shame on you for not knowing my honorable name." The guy said in anger. "Hmmmm. Sorry bro, I can''t really recall hearing that name before." "Argh.. Fine. The point is, you can''t win against us. We have already gathered information on how you both fight in a battle. Especially you Akatriel, you''re the type who thinks things deeply first before you act. When things go wrong you take time to revise the plan before charging in again. You supporting capabilities are good, a special trait needed in a Subjugation Squad team. However my innate ability is reading other people''s mind. A must-think-first-before-act person like you is at a total disadvantage against me." "Heh...so does that mean your ability is useless when we''re attack without giving it much thought." Corvelia concluded. "Akatriel I think I got an idea." "Hahaha. Fighting without a plan. Its just like you Corvelia, the Berserker. Raised and trained by her father a great Dragonborn warrior, however he died when you were still young. Without any other dragonborn here specializing in berserk combat or the means to go to the Dragonborn land being tied up to your mother with sensitive health. You''ve become someone unable to refine her fighting style, only wrecking havoc among both friend and foes very befitting of your given title." "Grr. What did you just say!?" Corvelia said in contempt. "I meant that even if you would go berserk in here, the effort would still remain worthless. Robert here has the innate ability to connect and sychronize his mind and senses with another person. With both of us able to read your minds and by sharing our senses, heck we could keep up until the time you lose control and succumbed to you berserk. By then, maybe you''ve taken down your partner first. Ha, nothing but a crude and rusted double edged blade, your father would surely be ashamed of you if he ever meets you in afterlife." Corvelia gritted her teeth in fury. Akatriel patted a hand on her shoulder asking her to calm down. "I may hate people who assume they know how I think. But I more deeply resent those people who groundlessly tells that someone''s parent hates their son or daughter just because they can''t be great like their lost parent." "You''ve got problem with that? Oh year you''re an orphan too after all. Hahaha." Edward mocked him. "Hey, Corvelia. You said you got an idea right? Let''s go with it." "Well, yes. But what they said earlier has a point. I might just turn on you when I lose control." she hesitated. "We won''t know if we won''t try." he reassured her. "You''re really desperate aren''t you." Edward taunted him. "Nah. You just don''t know me like you thought you did. Now lets go Corvelia." "But-." "No buts. I''m stronger than you think. It''s just that you''re the one who has the bigger reason to give them punishment so I''m giving you the chance to do so. Take it. We can do this, just trust me. You trust me right?" "Okay I get it." "Hit them as hard as you can for me will you." "Alright." Corvelia said all fired up. "You two are really hopeless." Edward said in astonishment. Akatriel and Corvelia readied themselves. "Okay lets go. Go all out all you want, leave the defense and support to me." "[Hunter''s Sight]." Corvelia lock on unto Edward and began with their offensive. Akatriel followed pursuit behind her. "[Cutting Wind]." the opponents unleashed their ranged attacks. "[Light Barrier]." The protective barrier negated the attack as Corvelia continued to charge in towards them. "[Burning Fist]." She commenced her assault upon coming within range. Akatriel also started to release barrages of [Piercing Light]. Corvelia''s strike was parried by a sword followed by a counter which Akatriel blocked with a barrier. Their opponents nimbly evade or parried those attacks while counterattacking with their own. As the exchange continued from time to time attacks from the opponent would wound Corvelia prompting Akatriel to heal her. "Take out the support first Robert." Edward called unto his partner. "Hey, the one you to should focus on is me, [Relentless Assault]." Corvelia''s attack started to increase in speed and power with each succession taking away both their chance to target Akatriel. "Damn it, [Shield Rush]." Robert charge at her with his shield knocking her back. "Grrah...[Breserker''s Rage]." She immediately jumped back in resuming her barrage, this time filled with anger and bloodlust. "You''re really doing it despite the danger of injuring bystanders! Your craz-." Robert wasn''t able to finish his words as a gauntlet buried itself on his cheeks. He bounced three times after being blown away before finally rolling into a stop unconscious." "Robert! Damn." Edward cursed in panic as Corvelia pursued him as her next target. Rushing towards him, she twisted her body to deliver a massive punch. Her prey tried to parry the attack but the swords shattered as the gauntlet hit them. The dragon gauntlet continued to travel toward his chest wrecking the armor protecting him. His body was launched into midair with his mouth spewing blood before landing hard on the ground on his back. Corvelia then still tried to pursue him even after he was knocked out. "[Light Shackles]." Akatriel had to summon the chains to bound her down. He then ran to her side to calm her down. "Hey, its okay now. We won the match already." Corvelia still tried to break free from the chains. Before she could do so Akatriel summoned three more set of them to hold her still. After struggling for some more time, Corvelia began to regain her control. "Huff...Huff...did we win?" She asked looking exhausted. "Yup we did. Thanks to your effort." He congratulated her. "Geez...you were really confident you could hold me down back there." "Its easier to capture someone going berserk since their movement pattern is too easy to predict rather than someone who could predict when and where I will activate my spell." "I don''t know if I should treat that statement as something negative or positive." "Of course take it positively. Its coming from a friend. It just meant you can berserk all you want when your with me...hahahaha" "Friend? Even after you''ve seen me like that? I''ve could''ve killed them if I wasn''t stopped." "Like I said your already a friend of mine. A tantrum due to your monthly period won''t be enough to change that." "Hey!." "Hehehe. I''m just trying to lighten up the mood. Their already being treated by the school nurses. Their''s nothing to worry about. Here let me heal your wounds too." "Thanks." She said with a smile. (Father,s ince the time you''ve left. I finally made a real friend.) she whispered to herself. "What was that?" "Oh, nothing. Lets rest for a while before the last match starts." "Sure." Team 13 has already won their third match, but Varis still hasn''t fought in any of the matches. "Looks like we still don''t know what Varisis capable of." Corvalia spoke worried. "Don''t fret about it. We still have some cards up our sleeves. You could also go on berserk again without worry." "But what about Elise? How are we going to fight her different personalities?" "She may be able to change her personality to adapt with the situation, but they all have one common weakness. Once you are able to anticipate their disabling magics and get close to them, they are actually weak in close combat. You can try engaging her first since not much of her skills can hold you off. Also if ever she has still some surprises with her, I''ve already have a way to counter her magic spells. We''ll just switch targets then." "So the plan is I''ll take on Elise first and you''ll go against Varis, then depending to the situation well exchange opponents if necessary?" "Yup easy as that." "Okay, lets go with that. Simple and direct." Corvelia agreed. "The fifteen minutes break is over. Participants of the last match, head now into the combat area." The teacher called out for them. Akatriel stood up and offered Corvelia a hand. "Shall we?" You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version. She gratefully took his hand. "Yup, lets give our best." The two teams faced off in the middle of the open field. "Finally, it has ended with the our teams fighting for the final match." Elise greeted the pair as the entered the combat area. "Yup. So it seems. You ready to lose your brother for a week BroCon?" "Never. Over my dead body." "Okay. I think Corvelia and I can fix that." "What? Do you two really intend to kill me? Hey don''t just take my words seriously!" "Wait, Akatriel. I did say I''d use berserk again, but I didn''t think killing someone was included." Corvelia spoke flustered. "Whoa, I wasn''t serious about that. Can''t you take a joke? Besides Corvelia''s not the only one showing of her skills this time." "Hehe...then show me what you got old man." "No need telling me that BroCon." Geraldus from the side raised his hands... "Now, for the final match to decide the strongest pair in this class section..." then dropped it with the signal. "Start!" "[Blood Mist]." Red mist covered the combat area obstructing the combatants view. Varis sprinted past Corvelia pursuing Akatriel who was retreating away from the mist. "Akatriel, careful!" "I got this, [Sun Strike]." He called out a spell. "Too slow. [Sanguine Blade]." Varis bit his finger and produced a pair of samurai shaped razor-sharp blades with his own blood. "Tsk...a blood user." Closing in to Akatriel, he slashed his body without hesitation. However the blade just passed by the image unscathed. (What? an illusion?) Varis was taken aback, he scanned the are for his opponent''s presence and found the real target was still further ahead and immediately understood the situation. (He made a mirage of himself by bending the light around him, making him appear nearer than the original image!) The air around him suddenly felt hot and dry. "Shit, he made me stepped into the center of his spell." The sun''s heat from above focused unto where he''s standing with a pinpoint accuracy, detonating the air and searing anything within its area of effect. Five meters around the area was blackened and the grasses were burned to ashed. The shock-wave from the blast was even strong enough to clear the mist from the combat area. However the opponent in the middle of it was still standing unharmed. "[Blood Caparace]. Phew, that was close." Varis'' body was now encased by crimson armor. "Wow. Your a tough one too." "Hah, try giving me a scratch now." "That was a such measly air strike. Try this one for size." It was Elise with her hair now turned red. "[Meteor Rain]." Dozens of flaming boulders about an adult person''s size came descending from the heavens. "I''ll be your opponent. [Flame Bolts}." Corvelia released extremely condensed fireballs from her gauntlet into the skies. The two spells met with a blast raining the whole field and its bystanders with cinders. Weren''t it for the barrier built earlier before the event, the buildings nearby would have also been affected causing a fire. "Idiots do you intend to burn the whole school." Geraldus yelled in anger. "Oops, sorry sir." Esire apologized. "How about this Corvie, [Flame Hail]." "No, your not even listening at all Miss Moonspell!" Geraldus moaned in frustration. This time she sent a flame orb into the atmosphere, detonating it and raining the area with flames. "[Light Shackles]." Corvelia take care of Varis for a moment." Akatriel bound his opponent and asked for Corvelia''s assistance. "Okay, leave him to me." Akatriel then ran into the center of the field and released a spell directly above him. "[Darkhole]." A black sphere was sent soaring upwards. It suspended in midair and began to sucking in all the flames falling from the sky. "Nice, you finally used your shadow spells. Looks like you''ve made pass the advance level too." Esire praised him. "But sadly you made a wrong move." "[Blood Cage.]" A magic circle made of blood appeared around Corvelia as she was fighting Varis. The circle activated creating a wall of red light surrounding it edges and preventing Corvelia from passing through it. Corvelia tried punching through it only to receive something similar to a electric shock upon touching it. She couldn''t seem to break them even in her full strength. "Damn. [Piercing Light]." Akatriel sent beams towards both directions. Varis parried it with his weapon, while Esire''s figure just dissolved into shadows after being hit. "A [Doppelganger]? when did she switched out?" "Right here old man." The mage was now standing besides the cage. Her hair is currently black. "Argh...let me out. [Berserker''s Rage]." Corvelia continuously banged her fist against the wall. "Calm down there my dear, or else I''ll be forced to use some harsh means to shut you up." Evany warned her. "Like I care." Corvelia snapped back. "As you wish then." Evany said with a smirk. (Shit this is bad.) The thought just settled into his head. "Hey Akatriel, want me to show you a new magic I learned? [Nightmare''s Core]." Shadow covered Corvelia''s cage encasing it with a black dome. Akatriel felt his spine went cold. (Shit things are really getting bad.) "Evany stop that. Dispell that magic at once." He warned the black mage. "Not until the match has ended." Evany sadistically said. "Besides this is the last match, there''s no reason to hold back don''t we. Release her yourself if you want to." Akatriel heard Corvelia made a scream in resistance from within the dome. "Damn it you sadistic idiot." He decided to rush toward them. "The hell you just said!? Take this [Shadow''s Clutch]." A giant dark claw assaulted towards Akatriel. "[Divine Ray]." A ray of light struck from the skies piercing the ground starting from where the hand was towards his opponents location. "[Blood Guard]." Varis made a shield with his blood to block the attack. After successfully repelling the spell, he charged towards Akatriel. "[Bloodthirst]." He assaulted him filled with blood-lust, never giving him a chance to counter-attack. Akatriel dodged and parried the attack with [Light Barrier] and [Piercing Light]. "Stop dancing around, [Shadow Bind]." Akatriel''s shadow wrapped around his feet. "I control my own shadow. [Black Thorns]." The binds on his feet was released and black spikes sprouted outwards from the ground around him pushing back Varis into a retreat. "Fine, no holding back then." he began chant. "But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. I summon thee Spear of Destiny, ''Holy Lance of Longinus''." A lance materialized within Akatriel''s hand. It was made of silver overlaid with gold. Engraved on the rod were runes emanating divine aura, enshrouding its wielder with holy protection and assistance. He dashed towards Varis and swung his lance. Varis blocked it with his swords crossed but the lance''s blade cut through the crimson blades like butter. "How ?" The lance then made a stab piercing his shoulder. Vanis was unable to react in shock as he saw his prided armor easily penetrated by the opponent''s weapon. The lance then made another swing slashing through his back. Another slash on his right side, then on his left knee and after that to his left arm. After a few more sucessions of slashes, the blood armor finally broke down and was dispelled. "[Dark Jaws]." three dark fins came from the mage''s shadow to assist his ally rushing towards Akatriel. A few feet from him the emerged from the ground revealing their shark-like forms with jaws wide open. Akatriel just swiped his lance at them, banishing them in an instant and started to sprint to the remaining opponent. "Don''t turn your back on me Akatriel. We''re not through yet. [Sanguine Binds]." Varis released red strings from his wounds to encase them on Akatriel. "No were done here." Akatriel pierced the ground with his lance. It produced a shock-wave tearing the strings to shreds and launching Varis into the air. Before he could land into the ground Akartiel withrew his spear and made seven stabs going upward then another five to the left creating a cross. "[Sealing Cruciform]." Light came from the lance piercing through Varis. From the points where the light pierced through runes appeared and began covering every part of his body restricting him from his ability to move and using magic. Akatriel once again turned back and ran towards Evany. "I''m telling you Evany stop that spell now!" "What harm can a little fear do. Both are partners are sealed, lets end this one-on-one first. I want you to meet someone new." Her hair changed from black to metallic silver. In an instant she disappeared from where she was standing. Akatriel tried to sense her presence. (From above!) He jumped back to dodge. His enemy fell on the spot where he was standing a few moments ago with a huge impact. (Teleportation, Gravity Manipulation and Acceleration. Spacial and Time Magic huh. Moreover going for a melee combat. This is going to be annoying) he thought "So its Battle Mage this time huh. What''s your name?" "It''s Estrea. Your combat skills are topnotch as always, but I''m winning this time." "That would have been the outcome if you had that during the last time we had sparred. However even your new magic is useless when I have this lance." "Lets see about that." She one again disappeared on her spot. "Holy Lance blessing, [Omniscience]." Akatriel readily blocked the surprise attack coming from the left and retaliated with a trust of his lance. Estrea dodged by teleporting. He swung the lance to the right. Estrea reappeared on the blades''s path and avoided it with her accelerated perception. "[Giga Impact]." Estrea swung her staff it''s tips weight multiplied 100 times towards Akatriel. He blocked it with his lance as if it were nothing. "What?" "This lance negates any magic it touches. Give up." Akatriel explained. "Then I''ll just use something untouchable. [Gravity Bind]." Akatriel felt a huge pressure tugging him down. "That''s still useless. Holy Lance''s sanctum [Hallowed Grounds]." One by one spears of light fell on the ground. One in each of the four directions, North, South, East and West. "Tsk...the cage is still to far to be covered by the zone." All the magic 10 square meters within it was negated. Akatriel used this opportunity to close in unto Estrea and slashed at her weapon. The staff was cut in two. With his opponent now weaponless, he rushed towards the cage. "What''s so urgent in dispelling that magic?!" "Please make it in time." He prayed and struck with his lance. However, his prayers came unanswered. Before his lance could touch the cage, it explode blowing him away. "Damn. You''re asking me? Tactical Combat 101, never use a illusion spell on an opponent who knows ''Berserk'' skill especially the likes that induces fear or helplessness because what you''ll get in the end...is a rampaging beast." He finally explained his worry. "Why didn''t you tell me earlier." "Both of you were attacking me without pause. I couldn''t find a chance to explain it so I thought it was faster finishing off you both and dispelling it myself." A roar was heard from the site of the explosion. Everyone was sent into confusion. Corvelia emerged through the smoke and flames. Bat-shaped wings made of fire had sprouted from her back. In her eyes were bottomless rage and anger. Her whole body was on flames and is radiating killing intent. "Let me rephrase the lecture I gave earlier. What you''d get in the current case...is a rampaging king of the mythical beast." Chapter 6: Dragonborn vs. Nephilim Chapter 6: Dragonborn vs. Nephilim A roared of rage was released creating a firestorm. Corvelia emerged from those flames. The dragonborn scanned the place and immediately found her prey, Estrea. Akatriel felt chills on his spine as killing intent flowing from predator to the prey permeated through his body. Estrea who was the target of the killing intent collapsed on her knees in fear. "Grrah!" Corvelia rushed at her ready to strike. Akatriel held his ground between the two despite the terror creeping on him and intercepted the attack with his lance. The blocking the strike caused his hand to go numb. Before he could retaliate Corvelia had disappeared in a blink from his sight. "Estrea run!" He screamed to the silver haired girl in panic. Despite the order Estrea remained frozen in place as the figure radiating thirst for her death swung its blades towards her neck. A shadow loomed upon them and blocked the strike before it could have severed the girls head. It was Geraldus, the teacher had finally decided to step into the situation. "Akatriel, get Miss Elise and Varis out of here." Akatriel released his seal upon Varis. He carried the pair on his back and ran away from the location. "Wake up young girl." Geraldus tried to call Corvelia back to her senses. But the reply she gave was a growl and relentless attacks with her weapon. Geraldus fended them of with his shield only for it to slowly gain dents after being struck again and again. "I said wake up." he bashed her with his shield to push her back. He then hit her with a left hook on the cheek hoping it would be enough to wake her up. Blood dripped out from Corvelia''s lips but the deed only seemed to add up to her rage. She clenched her fist. The flames enshrouding her changed from the ordinary orange to deep scarlet red. "That flame!" She swung her fist. "Chet. [Adamantine Guard]." Geraldus'' shield glowed with defensive aura as he tried to block the attack with dread. His feared intuition proved true as her hand shattered the shield reinforced with a defensive spell in a single hit. She continued to swing with her other hand. Geraldus'' armor was scraped off along with the flesh below by the blade claws. "Gah." Another hit from the burning gauntlet sent him tumbling through the fields. Blood gushed forth from his wounds and burn marks had riddled his body. The nurses ran to his side to heal him with their spells but the wounds and burns remained as they are. Things have a turn to the worst possible direction. Akatriel realized that the flames Corvelia are using were no ordinary flames. Instead it is among the deadliest kind of flames known, Hellfire. She is actually also carrying Nephilim blood aside from being an Avalonian and Dragonborn hybrid. It is as manifested by her black hair and the malevolent flames encasing her. Corvelia started to walk towards the heavily injured Geraldus. "Get out of here you two!" He told the two nurses who was desperately dragging her. Finally gaining a safe distance, Akatriel set down Estrea who was now shivering in fear after seeing their teacher easily beaten just like that. "Help everyone evacuate this place." He told the two before rushing in back into the field. "[Piercing Light]." He sent a barrage after another of light beams pushing Corvelia away from the teacher. Receiving the assault Corvelia turned to the intruder brimming with anger. (Shit I''ve just dug my own grave.) "Miss Joan and Anne please take Sir Geraldus away from here and have my mother treat his injuries. Also tell her about the situation while your at it. I''ll distract her for a while and try to buy time for the others to vacate this place." "That''s too dangerous." "There''s no other way. My Holy Lance is currently the only one that can counteract with her Hellfire. Please leave her to me." Is what he bravely said, but deep inside his legs are at the verge of giving in. His teacher was taken down in a matter of seconds. Restaining someone that has the ability to control Hellfire and currently going on berserk would be too much for his current capabilities. Its the adults responsibility to respond and take care of this anthropomorphism of hell, but. (You can go berserk all you want when you''re with me.) The words he had told her continued to echo within his mind. "There''s no turning back now. I made a promise with you and I won''t turn back on it, can you hear that Corvelia!." (Do I risk using them and having that ability of mine revealed? No, I might still be able to seal her with the holy spear alone. I''ll just use them for last resort. Just to be sure) "[Nocturne Mist]." Black fog spread covering the entirety of the field creating an artificial night and obstructing the view from the outside. "Now, [Omnisience]" He rushed towards her activating another spell. "[Hallowed Grounds]." Spears of light once again marked the territory nullifying magic, despite that Corvelia seemed unaffected. The flames encasing her is negating the effects of the field. Corvelia released a fire breath. Akatriel defended himself by slashing with his spear downwards splitting the sea of flames into two. If it weren''t for the divine protection granted by the spear, he would have been turned into a scorch fried Nephilim. Lance pointed out, he dashed in through the breath of fire. What met him after he emerged the flames was a burning claws heading straight to his chest. "[Lucent Strike]." He countered it with his spear piercing it to pieces but Corvelia grabbed on the weapon instead and swung her other arm. The blow connected breaking his rib cage and knocking him back. "Guh. Endure it!" He prevented himself from falling down with clenched teeth and summoned five successions of his binding spell [Light Shackles]. Before she could break away from them, he used his sealing skill. "[Sealing Cruciform]." Corvelia was struck by twelve consecutive stabs. The sealing runes then began to spread around her body and the flames cloaking her began to weaken. "I did it! (cough)...(cough)...please make it work." He fell on his knees coughing blood. Corvelia also fell on fours as her flames beginning to wane. Akatriel felt relief despite his injury making it hard for him to breath and approached her to check. "Hey, you okay now?" "Grraahhh." Hellfire once again erupted from her body burning away the angelic runes, taking Akatriel by surprise. "Uh-oh." He received an uppercut squarely on his chin launching him high up in the air. Corvelia leaped after him appearing after a few moments above her target and delivered a downward kick. He vomited more blood as the kick hit his abdomen hurling him into the ground and creating a crater upon his impact. Unsatisfied Corvelia used her winged shaped flames to propel herself toward her prey on the ground, rushing down towards him like a descending comet. An eruption was created as she struck the ground. The whole field was shattered by the huge shock-wave she produced after hitting the half-dead Akatriel. "Gahhh!" Akatriel screamed in pain. "Akatriel!" Elise now in control of her body screamed in dismay at the anguish sound released by her friend. Seeing the intruder now motionless and at the death''s door, Corvelia left him and began to walk towards where Elise''s voiced was heard . "Shit, lets run!" Varis pulled at the still shaken Elise. The Dragonborn shot a fireball towards them but somehow something invisible blocked the attack. It was the barrier set around the open field. She compressed another fireball this time thrice the power and launched it shattering the protective boundary. "Oh gods! even an adept class barrier was destroyed in a flick of her finger." Varis spoke in dismay. Corvelia once again started to create another flaming orb. As she was preparing to throw it, a very strong and inhuman presence stopped her midway in her act. If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. The pressure was coming from behind. Deep within the crater. * * * * * * * * * * Akatriel opened his eyes with a start. He was lying on the ground, but where he was currently is not the combat grounds. It was an empty place in the borders of day and night. He remembered the past events and understood the current situation. He had passed out and his real body is currently unconscious. Where he his now is somewhere deep within his consciousness. Two figures we''re on his both sides. On his left, to the side of daylight is a girl about his age in a simple white gown. Her head was covered by a veil and a halo could be noticed a few centimeters above it. Behind her was a pair of white feathery wings. On Akatriel''s right was a boy also of the same age clothed with a black hooded cloak, the hood was hiding his head which had a pair of horn on it. Also on his back were a pair of black bat-like wings and a tail. "Hey, what''s with the ruckus out their? I thought its supposed to be a rest day today. How can we rest with those noise?" the girl complained. "Easy on him Anael. Him being here without prior notice could only mean a few things. And based on the commotion we heard from the outside its most likely he had been wasted." the boy concluded. (Geez you guys are harsh. Are you really my guardians. You haven''t even noticed that I was half dead up until the very last moment.) "Hey you know we could hear your thoughts, so why not just speak it out. Of course Azrael and I are your Guardian Angel and Guardian Devil. The spiritual energy you borrowed from us all through your training this summer has depleted our reserves past half the total capacity. We had to hibernate to recover it quickly so its your fault for not telling us you need help." "Okay. okay. It''s my fault alright. I thought I could handle it alone. Well rather changing the topic where''s the third guy?" "Hmm? didn''t you almost use up all his energy. He''s still passed out hibernating to recover. It may at least take him a week to wake up." Azrael reminded him. "Well I don''t have particular comments with that...err...I''ll make it up for him next time. Now rather changing the topic once more, I still got a problem to handle." "Aren''t you just trying to escape our reproaches. Hmm...well whatever. Why? What''s the current situation you''re in?" "The problem? I was fighting a half-dragon on berserk. Even bigger problem? She''s a part Nephilim with the ability to use Hellfire." "That explains how you got your ass kicked even after I''ve entrusted you the Holy Spear. So should we use that?" "It''s the only way we can fight her on even grounds, I''m no match with my current strength." "Okay then." The girl agreed. Akatriel and the girl began to chant at the same time. "Holy angelic guardian, use thee as thy vessel. To protect and save. To bring justice and peace. [Posesia - Primus Anghelus]." * * * * * * * * * * Corvelia perplexed, turn to the intruder who has risen once again. His wounds were healed and his tattered clothes was replaced by a white garment and a shroud covering the upper part of his face. His eyes were glowing white through the cloth and a halo was surrounding his head. Behind him a pair of wings made of light were spread wide and his whole body began to shine with radiance. Anael has now taken over his body. He has became light himself, with its speed, properties and capabilities. "[Daylight Seeker Form]." Akatriel and Anael''s voice overlapped with each other. He recalled the Holy Lance that was struck on the ground. It flew straight to his hand and transformed with two more blades protruded from the base of the central blade turning it into a cross spear. The divine aura it emits also multiplied by ten folds. Corvelia felt him released a very strong pressure. The next moment, he disappeared without trace. She shielded her front with her gauntlet out of pure instincts. Split a second later she felt a strong impact pushing her down on her knees and causing the ground beneath her to cave in due to the heavy pressure from the attack. Breaking free from the attack, she jumped back to gain distance away from her opponent. Her effort became meaningless as Akatriel once again vanished, reappearing behind her. To him who could now move with the speed of light, his enemy only seemed to be moving in slow motion within his perception. Akatriel hacked with his spear without giving her time to react. Her wing of flames were scattered and the armor''s back was torn to pieces. To escape, she let herself fall on the ground and tried to roll away. However Akatriel stomped on her chest to stop her roll and brought down his lance. Corvelia blocked it with her gauntlet only for it to be wrecked. The lance was brought down once more. (Wait!) The blade missed its mark only nipping on the Corvelia''s neck. (What is it?) (I only said to STOP her from rampaging, not KILL her!) Akatriel complained within his head. (What? You should''ve have said so earlier.) (Hey! That person is already a friend of mine, killing her is not an option. Your an angel aren''t you, don''t you have a better way than this?) (Just kidding. Switch me out with Azrael after I retrained her movements, he''ll take care of it from there.) (What I''m about to do might kill you though.) Azrael chimed in warning Akatriel. (What! Are you kidding me?) (Relaxed. You''re the one asking for the impossible in the first place. I''ll just revive you back if you ever die again.) Anael assure him. (Tsk...that''s not reassuring at all. Fine, you''re enjoying this aren''t you. Just get on with it.) (Okay.) The pinned Dragonborn released a fire breath. Akatriel jumped back to evade it. Corvelia bolted towards him in fury. She slashed and struck with her claw to no avail as her target gracefully evaded her attacks while taking his time to counter-attack. Every now and then he would find a chance and cut her with a cross shape wound. First on the back of her left hand, next the right, after that the right ankle, then another to the left side and finally to the center of the chest. Completing those marks, he struck the ground with his spear. "[Inquisitor''s Cross]." Upon impact a huge cross emerged from the ground behind Corvelia. Blood gushed forth from the wound he made and anchored themselves at the four corners of the cross in a form of chains. It dragged her to the cross and shackled her with it in a crucified figure. Corvelia tried to break free to no avail. The spell''s power depends to the degree of the seven deadly sin one bears, which in her case was overflowing with wrath. (Now.) Anael signaled. "Infernal demonic guardian, use thee as thy vessel. To dominate and slay. To bring chaos and bloodshed. [Posesia - Primus Demonius]." The white cloth worn by Akatriel turned into a black hooded cloak. The cross spear he was holding transformed into a obsidian trident. He grew pair of horns, wings and tail in a form of shadows. His eyes turned pitch black and his body as well seemed to blend with darkness as Azrael had taken over. "[Midnight Threader Form]." Shadows began to form a magic circle on the ground they were both on. "I''ll be devouring that rage of yours missy. So just keep still. [Ira Devoro]." The shadows from the circle pounced at Corvelia entering her body. After a few moments the shadows along with Hellfire flowed from her mouth going unto Akatriel''s. Slowly the Hellfire began to dissipate. Meanwhile Akatriel felt his throat burn going further deep within his body. Even when possessed with divinity and evil his body is still but a mortal. The flames covering Corvelia had all completely faded. All her rage was drained causing her to fall unconscious. Akatriel on the other hand could feel his insides thoroughly burnt after consuming all those Hellfire and rage. Overcame by agony and the rage he absorbed his his sensed finally crumbled. Chapter 7: Aftermath Chapter 7: Aftermath Akatriel was reawakened by the pokes assaulting his cheeks. "Wasted twice in a row, you sure are unlucky today." Anael teased him. "Will you please stop with the poking. And it wasn''t even my fault. Devouring Hellfire, seriously Azrael?" "Hehe. At least I had my fill. Now I feel fully recharged." "I was burned from inside out due to that reckless action of yours damn it!" Akatriel complained in anger. "Relax. Anael is currently healing your body at the moment. No need to fuss, you''ll be running around full of energy in no time." "That''s not the issue here. It felt like hell back there!" "Dude, that was Hellfire, of course it would hurt like hell. So rather than being grouchy shouldn''t you be just grateful first, now that your friend has ceased from rampaging." "Urk...fine. When you say it that way it seems sounds that I''m still in debt with you two after what you had just done. Honestly, please try not killing me every time you provide assistance." "(giggle)...well, were sorry too Triel." Anael apologized. "But, were angel of life and demon of death. It''s just hard to resist teasing you that way." "So that was really intended in the first place!" Akatriel moaned in frustration. "Well despite that, you still always trust us with your whole faith." Azrael chuckled. "Hey don''t push it. It''s just that the situation calls for it. Besides, your help always show good results at the very least though it always manages to pisses me of when you both tease me like that." "Ahahaha" Anael burst out laughing. "That''s just really you." "Geez. You''re still my trusted guardians after all." Akatriel also chuckled. "So be it. I''ll just make it even with you on other chances." Akatriel felt droplets of water hit his face. "Hey, does it drizzle here at times?" "I doubt that. Maybe it just mean it''s about time for you to head back. I''m almost done healing you." Anael informed him. "I see. Then I''ll be off, Corvelia might still need my aid." Akatriel relaxed himself, slowly letting his senses fade and leading his them back to reality. * * * * * * * * * * Fatigue and weariness assaulted Akatriel''s body when he came to conciousness. He felt so stiff, the only consolation he was thankful was the soft thing that was supporting his head. If was so comfortable it felt like he''s being dragged back to his dreams. (Ugh, but my body still really hurts.) He once again felt droplets of water dampening his face. He heard a sob and felt a drop enter the gaps of his lips. (Salty, is this tears.) He opened his weary eyes and saw Corvelia''s weeping face looming above his. She is currently supporting his head with her lap as a pillow. "Akatriel I''m sorry...(sob)...(sob)...I''m really so sorry." She wept. "What...a..are...you appolo...gizing...about?" His ribs were almost healed but he still feel pained as he spoke. "Eh?" Corvelia was dazed for a moment as if she''d seen a ghost. Realizing where was the source of the voice... "Kyaaa!" "Oof." a fist assaulted Akatriel''s jaw. A muffled cry of pain escaped from him as he felt his incisor fell off. "You were dead! You didn''t have pulse when I checked earlier. You''re suppose to be dead. Kyaaah!!!" Corvelia continue punching his face in panic before dropping it off the ground as she scampered away. "Oww..." Akatriel caressed the bump on his head. "I hadh bhe mhore charephul when hnadhlig injhurhed pheople." (I have be more careful when handling injured people.) He spoke while applying magic on his agonized jaw. "You''re really alive!" Corvelia spoke half-bewildered and half-relieved. The flow of her tears began to worsen. (Akatriel is making a girl cry.) Anael commented. (Yeah, Shame on him.) Azrael chided in too. (Irk...stop it you two, now''s not the time for teasing me like that.) "Whaa...I''m really sorry. I didn''t intended to lose control. I didn''t want to hurt other people. When I came to sense, you were already laying lifeless in from of me. (sob)...I didn''t mean to do it." Tears continued to flow from her eyes. "Hey, it okay. Everything''s fine. Come on, you''re still bleeding from your injuries. Let me heal those wounds." Akatriel drew near her. Corvelia jumped away from him. Her eyes were filled with fear, like a person framed for a crime. "No! Stay back. I might just hurt you once more! I had almost killed you once." "Corvelia, you won''t do that. Believe me." "Please, just stay away from me. I don''t want to hurt others again." "You dummy." Akatriel rushed towards her grabbing her both her hands. "No! I said stay away. Let me go!" "Corvelia stop struggling...CORVELIA!...Look at me in the eyes. Do I look scared of you. Do I look like someone afraid of simply dying like you think. I''m not that fragile as you think so let me help you!" Akatriel stared hard at her in the eyes. Corvelia flinched. She stopped struggling and weakly shook her head. "But-" "Again, enough with the buts." Akatriel pulled her in, hugging her head unto his chest and slowly caressed her hair to calm her. A certain person never failed to calm him this way. "Khuaa...I''m scared...I was scared when I thought I had killed someone. Scared that I had ended your life." her tears were drenching his bare chest. "Hush." He continued to stroke her head. "You''ll be okay, I promise." "(Sniff)...Akatriel." Corvelia hugged him back. "As long as you''re with me, I won''t let anything bad happen even if you suddenly go berserk. I''ll be your personal support. And if ever I''m away and you feel you''re about to lose control, just yell my name and I''ll be coming in a flash by your side." (Are you sure with that decision of yours?) (It seems like you''re asking for trouble yourself.) (I''ve made up my mind and I''ve made a promise so I''m going to keep it. Beside it would also mean I''d get more chances to get used with possession magic and improve it.) (Geez what are we even worrying about...of course its how you would act. You won''t be known as their son if it''s the other way around.) "We''ve just met each other today. How could you go through such lengths for me." Corvelia was filled with doubts. "Because that''s what I am. I live by my own beliefs. Once I''ve made a promise, I''ll keep it till my very last breath. I will protect you and everyone when you go out of control, that''s the promise I made and intend to keep. You trust me don''t you? So just let me do it out of my own will." (Why shouldn''t she? After all the thing that happened and what they''d been through, that boy had proved himself more than just worthy. Of course she could trusts him.) Corvelia thought as she felt something tugged deep within her chest. It made her feel warm and at ease deep inside. "In exchange, promise me you''ll keep on honing the skills your father had taught you. You are lucky he left you a legacy before he passed away so cherish it, learn it, don''t let others sway you with their words and mater it rather than letting it be the other way around. Prove them you can be your father''s pride." Corvelia nodded with her her blushing face still hidden by his chest. "Good." He decided to release her from his hug. It been sometime when she hugged him back and since her plate armor was removed earlier during the fight, her undershirt was the only cloth separating the two soft bulges pressing against his belly. Its has begun to distract his concentration. (Who would have thought Dragonborns would be this soft to touch despite how their skin looks.) Akatriel shook away the thought and stood up. (Wait, wait, wait we got a serious atmosphere here, I can''t be distracted by some random thoughts.) "Here take my hand." Corvelia obediently took it as Akatriel applied his healing spell. Its the second time he had offered his hand for her today. But why was it just at this moment did she noticed how firm and dependent his hands were. How they felt so warm and reassuring. The field spell [Nocturne Mist] that Akatriel had cast wan now starting to dissipate. "Let go." "Um. Yeah." she agreed, still unsure with the strange but nice feeling in her chest. As the black mist cleared they saw a group of teachers approaching from the edge of the field, among them was Geraldus who was completely healed back to health. Also, a teacher in her early thirties with a white hair was running ahead of them. She directly approached Akatriel and gave him a knock on the head. "Ow. Easy mom."(That''s the third bump I''ve obtained withing a day.) he bitterly thought. His mother hugged him the same manner he had with Corvelia. "Don''t make me worried like that again. You almost gave me a heart attack" she said clearly shaken. "Who told you to take care of the problem at hand by yourself. At least you could''ve waited for me to arrive. I''m your mother for a reason, it''s a parents duty to protect and help their child." Akatriel felt guilt. His mother had a point. "I''m sorry for making you worry. That was toughtless of me. I''m all fine now, there''s nothing to be concerned about." He tried to console her. "Did you think I didn''t noticed her Hellfire as well as you releasing your guardians? You only used possession magic a couple of times and all those situations was when your life was in grave danger. If things had reached that degree you had to use them of course I''ll surely be worried." Looks like Akatriel has to also hide the fact that Anael had revived him twice. "Hey, that look in your face. Are you hiding something from me?" "Huh, no nothing!" he made an answer flustered. "Don''t lie to me. I''d have you grounded for a month." "Ma''am, it wasn''t Akatriel''s fault. I was the one who had suddenly gone berserk during the event and he e just came to my assistance as a friend. If you intend to give him a punishment then please if you would reconsider, let me take the punishment instead." Corvelia who was taken aback by the exchange between the parent and child butted in and pleaded. "And you are?" Agatha asked. "Oh. Corvelia meet my mother, mother met Corvelia. She''s my partner during the matches." "Oh, your the dragon child. I pardon you but I believe my son should take responsibilities for the decisions he made." "I beg you, please let me insist. He was the only one who dared to saved me and stopped me from rampaging. He is also the very first friend I''ve ever made after I had transferred to this school, at least let me repay him through this." she said with her eyes full of conviction. Agatha raised an eyebrow. "Corvelia there''s no need for-" Akatriel tried to tell her but was halted by a hand with an iron grip on his shoulders. "Are you sure with that young lady?" "Yes, so please." "I see. Fine, I''ll take responsibility of this incident and let you two off just this once. But don''t you dare repeat this kind of ruckus again. Am I understood?" "Ma''am?" Corvelia asked confused. "I meant that I''ll take care of this incident and talk with the principal later, the old guy''s still in-debt with me after all. You two are both of the hook. Besides seeing you two somewhat reminds me of a past experience." If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. "Mom what do you mean by that?" "Nothing, both of you go ahead and get a change of clothes, you might catch a cold in that get up. Especially you Akatriel, you can just go walking around the school half-naked. Now hurry up before I change my mind." Akatriel looked at his attire and then at Corvilia''s. With due regards his mother had a point. Due to the battle all his garments aside from his pants were either completely burn or torn. Even Corvelia''s tattered attire was revealing too much skin. "Eeep...stop staring at me. Pervert!" Corvelia yelp finally noticing her current looks. "Sorry!" Akatriel looked away. He chanted something before kneeling to the ground and withdrawing something from withing his shadow. "Here wear this for a while." Akatriel wrapped a black jacket around Corvelia and handed her a trouser. Then he chanted once more covering his body with shadows. After it has dissipated, his clothes were restored like brand new. "How did you do that?" "I can store stuff within my shadow. However there''s a limit on how much I can store and I only learnt it just a few day ago though." Agatha turned to Geraldus. "Since the problem has been solve now, I think your should proceed with the class and end it early today. Let the children have their rest." "I understand." he agreed. "Then I''ll be now heading to the principal''s office to explain the incident. Please take care of these freshmen." Agatha said and walked away. "Oh dear sister. Fufufu...looks like our son is growing up to be a ladies man just like his fathers. He''ll surely attract more than just a single maiden in the near future. (sign)...what do you think sister? Should I be proud or worried?" Agatha wistfully whispered to herself. * * * * * * * * * * The students were once again gathered. Since the combat area was completely wrecked, the venue was changed to the other end of the open field. "Let''s make this quick so everyone could be dismissed early. I''ll be now announcing the result of the final match." Geraldus spoke to the gathered students. "The match may have not been concluded because of the incident, but I as the one in-charge of supervising this competition have made the decision that the winner for the final match would be non-other than the team seven." "Does anybody have objections with that? Or would Miss Elise and Mr. Varis rather have a rematch?" Geraldus questioned the pair. "No, I''m fine with the decision. As much as I hate to admit it, even it if the match were to continue earlier Akatriel alone would still have defeated us two. I''ll admit our loss." Elise answered. "How about you Varis?" "I''ll be declining the offer of a rematch. The results have been clear earlier, I would like to improve myself first then just challenge them another time." he admitted his defeat, his voice tinged with bitterness. It seems this was the first for him to experience such gap in strength. Nobody else in the crowd seemed to raise a objection. After all not a single one had thought of challenging the berserker during her rampage in the first place. Somehow they had come to acknowledge Akatriel''s guts and capabilities when he stood against her on his own. "Well then. Thus, I''d have to officially announce the team seven as the winner of this competition. Of course they shall receive a reward being the champions. Here take these." He urge the two to come forward and handed them a pair of necklaces. "You might need this on the scheduled class two weeks from now." They were made out of a transparent piece of blue glass hanged on a silver chain. "What are these?" Akatriel asked. "What? you don''t know such highly valued item!?" Elise exclaimed in surprise. "Those are called contractor''s necklace. I lets you form a contract with a single compatible creature and turn it into your personal familiar without the need of being a summoner class. These items are rare to find, I''ve been searching for one since I was ten. To think you just have easily acquired one and not know how lucky you are irritates me." "Then let me also remind you about our bet. Since you have accepted your defeat, your brother may now start with his sleep over tonight." "What! Hey wait anything but that. I''m still not prepared being separated to my brother yet." "Oh come on. Your mansion is just a right next to ours, aren''t you overreacting." "But still, not being able to tiptoe into his room and sleep beside him when he''s fast asleep is a bit too much." "Honestly whose the one going overboard here?" "Ahem...Leave your discussion for later." Geraldus interrupted them. "I know everyone is tired already so before we proceed in dismissing this class, I would like to leave an assignment for all of you." "Uhm...and what would it be sir?" a student asked "Ah. Noting to be worried about. Its just simple one since you had now interacted and seen the combat capabilities of each and everyone. Before the scheduled meeting two weeks from now, I would like you to group up to make a temporary Subjugation Squad. Simple as that, did everybody get it?" "Yes sir!" the whole class answered. "Good, then class is dismissed. Everyone may now take their leave." * * * * * * * * * * "A Subjugation Squad huh." Akatriel said to himself. "Oh, so who will you be teaming up with?" Corvelia asked him out of curiosity. Subjugation Squad, the term refers to a team formed by a group of people with the main goal of subduing monster specifically Worldeaters during the war. This practice have been said originate from the Fabled Heroes during the very first war against the Worldeaters. The ancestors observed effectiveness of their organized combat tactics while working as a small group against the invaders compared the common unit organization system. Thus this type of team combat tactic was adapted and implemented by almost every race. Basically a subjugation squad is composed of namely: Vanguard, Slayer, Combatant, Casters, Marksman and Support. Vanguards are the ones in-charge to take huge amounts of damage. They sport high amounts of durability and are heavily armor. They have the ability to taunt enemies into focusing on them, either directly or through the use of highly aggravating spells and abilities, rather than other team members who may be more susceptible to damage and debilitation. Slayer are those which specialize in killing the enemies quickly. They boast the ability to deal high output of burst damage in exchange of having low defense. All of them have some form of invisibility or sudden ambushing ability and has high mobility. Their main role is to lie wait while looking for the enemies vital point and strike when the opportunity presents itself, finishing them off. Combatants are a hybrid between damage dealing and tanking, they combine and utilize the survivability of a Vanguard and the damage of a Slayer. Although they don''t quite match up to their specialized counterparts in either role, they still excel in both. Their role most of the time is to fight alongside the Vanguard and dealing damage to the enemy while also providing secondary cover for the other team members as well. Caster are mostly ranged who prioritize powerful abilities over basic attacks. Typically Casters are characterized by some combination of long-range, area-effect or high-utility spells to get the job done. However, Casters have the lowest defense and can only wear the lightest of armors. A skilled caster can have a huge impact on any team with their versatile spells and the flexibility of its use upon situations. A marksman is a ranged attacker that sacrifices defensive power and utility to focus on dealing strong, continuous damage to individual targets. Typically focused on using their basic attacks more than their abilities, marksmen have the capability to scale and deal out devastating levels of damage given the right positioning during combat. Supports make are considered the core on a squad by enabling their allies through buffs and heals, or by disrupting enemy lines through crowd control. Supports create advantages and opportunities for their teammates to capitalize on. A skilled support gives their team the edge it needs to claim victory, and can turn the tide of battle with just one well-timed mediation. People can take upon more than one specific role in a squad, switching role if called upon by the situation and thus providing more flexibility to the team. To sum it up the main goal of forming a squad is to build a team utilizing a balanced composition of the previously mentioned roles in order to bring out the maximum results capable of subjugating a Worldeater while minimizing the risk of casualty. "For starters why not team up with me then." "Really?" "Why not we''ve won the competition as a pair, so what other proof would you ask for to prove out compatibility as a team? You can act as a Vanguard or Combatant, and I''ll be a Support and at time a Combatant too. We could then search for others who could fit in for the role within this two weeks." "Okay then. Lets do that." Corvelia cheerfully agreed. The day managed to end with the rampage incident resolved. All the student finally headed home after finishing their classes. "I manage to stand out and leave an impression at today''s event. Alright, starting from here, the real hurdles begin. Now the main goal, is to gather the best team and make my name well known within a year. That''s the quickest way to meeting them." _______________________________________________________________ Author''s notes: Hello everyone!!!
