《Nefarious Alike》 Prologue - The beginning Prologue: That young girl, delighted, ran out of her room and rushed to the stairs. Past the perfectly-aligned China on the cabinet and the austere painting of a flower. Reaching downstairs, she searched for her parents while holding on to the present she got for her 14th birthday. When she can¡¯t find her parents in the kitchen, a place in which they would always be on their free time, she reached for the door next to the kitchen counter, leading to the backyard. They were not there. Perplexed, the blond girl surveyed the area only to find the flowers perfectly adorned in their place and the grass well-trimmed and some gardening tools perfectly aligned in the shed. The sun shone in the finest way, warming the surrounding and the smell of grass filled her nostrils. ¡°Smash!¡± The sound piqued the girl¡¯s curiosity. It seems to be coming from the living room. Confident her parents will be there, she shuffled inside the house through the door from which she came out. Sound of smashing stuffs was heard. Excited, the girl increased her pace, believing the sound to be coming from the television. ¡°Stop!! Please, Stop!!¡± The voice sound familiar to her. A bit afraid, she continued on walking but at a slower pace, scared of what¡¯s to come beneath the white curtains, blocking the sight of the living room from the kitchen. When she got closer, the sound and voices became very clear and she was appalled. Nervous as a young girl would, she went to the living room, only to witness a horrifying sight. She was thunderstrucked. Shocked. The living room was a mess. The television shattered, the pictures on the walls were on the floor and the coffee table broken. Her mother were on the floor motionless, blood gushing out of her forehead. She¡¯s holding a small table lamp which bulb had been splintered. Her father was in a struggle with an unknown person wearing a mask, and her father was losing. He held an axe which he swung at the masked person. The masked person fought back by drawing out a blade from his black bag. Feared, the young girl cowered in tears and she closed her eyes, blocking the view from her sight. She was terrified. Panicked. Reading on Amazon or a pirate site? This novel is from Royal Road. Support the author by reading it there. Is her mother dead? Who is that masked person? Why is her father fighting with him? - - Silence enveloped the room. Looking up, the young girl found the masked man staring down at her. ¡°I¡¯ve come for you, Scarlet¡± As a response, the young girl, who¡¯s called Scarlet ran back to the kitchen. She was very scared. She hid behind a kitchen counter, and equipped herself with a black kitchen knife. She knew for a moment that her mother and father was dead and the masked guy is coming for her. Crossing her finger that the man wouldn¡¯t find her, she hold back her tears and refused the need to snort as this might alert the man. ¡°Scarlet! There you are!!¡± The masked man approached her and tackled her, as if to kidnap the young girl. Acting out of fear, she stabbed the man¡¯s shoulder and pushed him away from her and escaped to the living room. The man, in pain, went out to the backyard. Sound of police siren was heard. Relieved, the young girl went outside through the front door, past her mother¡¯s and her father¡¯s body. Waving at the police car which was coming down the street, she cried. Two blue suit men walk out of the car and took out their guns. ¡°Stop!¡± Confused, the girl approached the police. ¡°Stop! Don¡¯t move! Let go of that knife!¡± The young girl was dismayed. She found herself carrying the kitchen knife and her foot relatively splatered with bloods. Her parents was killed and the person who is responsible for it is nowhere to be found. She tried to explain things, only to get herself disarmed by the police and her hands cuffed. Her world was torn apart. She was only fourteen and her parents was taken from her. Now, her future is too, because she was accused of the massacre of her own family. -Nefarious Alike by KueVanGiruet (So sorry if there are many grammar mistakes and any spelling error as well as wrong usage of words. ) Chapter 1 - I Return Chapter 1 ¨C I return. ¡°Hey wake up¡± I squinted as I opened my eyes, the sun rays from the windows hitting my face. ¡°It¡¯s your day Lil¡¯ girl,¡± Gina said. I sighed. ¡°You know, I think I¡¯m too old for that nickname now¡± I blurted out. Gina snorted out a laugh. ¡°Yea I know sugar, take it easy. Pack up your stuffs.¡± Gina have been calling me ¡®Little Girl¡¯ (or ¡°Lil¡¯ Girl¡± for short) since the first day I came in here. This place, the Harmony, is a place where they put people like me. Teenagers like me. Those with problems. Those they believed need recovery, in terms of behavior and actions. And by ¡®they¡¯ I mean, the parents. The governments. The officials. Basically this place is the bin where they throw all the children they believed was involved with any forms of crimes: drugs, alcohols, theft, abusing children ¨C name it. I guess this place was supposed to act as a teenage recovery facility. But as time goes on, the programs responsible to make us better seemed to be... off track. It¡¯s just like a detention room, where they lock you in a room with nothing to do due to your mistakes. In this case, I guess you can call it a detention house with much more longer hours. I was issued in here 5 years ago. For what you might ask? Easy. I killed my parents. They put me in here, thinking that I need emotional support when in fact my life was way better than most kids until that one fateful day. On my fourteenth birthday, a maniac came into the house and massacred my parents. At some point, I escaped him, but so did he. When the police arrived, I was holding the knife I used to stab him with and he was nowhere to be seen. So I was the one to blame - However, something''s quite not right.. I mean, the blood on the knife couldn''t possibly match with my parents.. It''s easy to prove my innocence just by analyzing the latter... The officials are clearly messed up! And now with my parents dead, my reputation destroyed, so does my future ¨C I mean, seriously, no one would like a person who got into a ¡®teenage-recovery-facility¡¯ for killing their own parents to work in a simple restaurant, let alone big companies like the Zero corporation. Still, life gotta move on. I never thought I would survive being in here. It¡¯s just too boring. No television. No games. Nothing. Just boring old white walls with very little decorations whatsoever and beds. This place lack of colour. It¡¯s just plain old black and white, just like the old movies they used to show me in History class. ¡°Stop spacing out!¡± Gina shook me. She threw me a white towel. ¡°Go get some shower¡± Being obedient, I took the towel and head for the showers. Hmm.. No one¡¯s inside. What time is it?I glanced at the hanging clock on the wall. Its needle indicating it¡¯s currently 7:35 A.M. No wonder it¡¯s too quiet. I¡¯m the only one awake here ¨C Well, I guess me, Gina and some other staffs. Oh well.. The shower was nice. Its warm water washed my body. It usually sting, but for today it is very comforting. It somehow reminded me of the memories of my mother¡. I should stop. I don¡¯t want to look back at my past. Those sweet memories will only hurt myself now. How I missed my parents. I pulled my hair back into a ponytail, letting some bangs loose covering my forehead and got dressed up, wearing my simple austere hoodies and my skinny jeans. For the first time in a long time, I can see myself changed in the mirror. The what-used-to-be-a-happy-cheerful-girl had turned into this strong woman who seem to suffer a heartbreaking past. I have to admit. I do. I do suffer some very painful past. The author''s tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. I walked out the showers, waving goodbye to the sinks and mirrors and windows which I won¡¯t be seeing anymore. I¡¯m leaving this place. Gina sat on my bed when I came out. I patted her shoulder and I smiled when she turned. ¡°You¡¯re ready?¡± she questioned. ¡°I guess.¡± I answered ¡°Just let me bid my farewells to some ¡ people¡± ¡°Sure, take your time¡± When Gina went out to the lobby, I rummaged my bags through the clothes and took out an envelope. This is for my best friend Jenny. I made friend with her a year after I got in here. She¡¯s very nice. She got in at the age of 15 for drinking alcohols. It¡¯s irony. I used to hate girls like her, who seem nerdy and geeky and like to read books. But as time moved on, we got real close and she somehow influenced me to read books too. I have to say, it is kinda fun. I knew this day would come. So I prepare the letter a week ago. A week later, this envelope would be opened and 19 year old Jenny would read the letter inside when she find this under her pillow. I run my fingers through her dark hair. Her skin so smooth, like a baby skin despite living in this hellhole. Take care, Jenny. I sneaked outside to the lobby as I wiped the tears off my eyes. Funny. Never thought it would be this hard to leave this place. ¡°Hey Gina, I¡¯m all done.¡± I told her. ¡°Okay Lil¡¯ Girl, just wait while I fill in this paper. It¡¯ll just take a minute¡± she reassured. Gina was the only person who seem to believe my story. After I was admitted in here, I got really wild and abusive that I would hysterically attack and scream towards the workers of this place. But Gina, she managed to get through me and I really love how she would hug me during my meltdown, reiterate in my ears that everything will be alright and just fine. ¡°All done¡± We stood there for a bit. My eyes met hers. She finally broke the silence ¡°Huh,.. you know Lil¡¯ Girl, sometimes you really got on my nerves. Like right now.¡± I stood still. She smirked. ¡°C¡¯mere¡± and gave me hug. ¡°Now you be careful out there Lil¡¯ Girl. I¡¯m gonna miss you.¡± ¡°I will, Gina¡± ¡°You better, cause if you don¡¯t. You¡¯ll go to jail, which is way worse than here¡± She laughed. And then she got the serious look on her face. ¡°Remember, always look ahead. The past is in the past. Your future awaits¡± I simply just smiled in response. She accompanied me towards the entrance door, past the silver curtains on the window and the white tiles on the floor. I took a last look at the lobby. Nothing really changed since the day I got here. The counters on the center, brown and dusty. The bookcase, perfectly arranged in an orderly manner across the room. The daffodils in a red vase on the niche in the grey walls of the lobby. I¡¯m leaving you, Harmony. Goodbye Jenny, Gina and all other roommates which I don¡¯t really know. With a deep breath, I turned away and held the door handle. After 5 years of being here, I, Eona Guillory is free. Ready to face what¡¯s ahead. Ready for the future. Ready to face the world. With anticipation, I opened the doors and set out to the outside world, finally moving forward with time. Nefarious Alike. [Chapter 1 ¨C I Return] -KueVanGiruet (I hope you guys like the introduction and how the story will unfolds) Chapter 2- Brawl Chapter 2 ¨C Brawl I saw Aggie leaning on her old Bentley wearing a pale yellow blouse with lime stripes. She waved at me as I leave the building. She hugged me and I return the favors. ¡°Hi! How are you sweetie?¡± she asked. I just told her I¡¯m fine as I got in her car to the passenger¡¯s seat. Aggie was my neighbor. Back in Boston, when the massacre took place, she¡¯s the one who called the cops when she heard some fighting sound in my house. She decided to take me in with her after I¡¯m free from Harmony. As she drove through the street down the hill, leaving the Harmony, she spoke ¡°Look, Eona. I¡¯m very sorry for what happened¡± ¡°It¡¯s okay, Aggie. I would¡¯ve done the same.¡± ¡°But I ¨C ¡° ¡°It¡¯s alright, Aggie¡± I repeat. ¡°The fact that you¡¯re willing to take me in when my own relative won¡¯t is good enough for me, and I appreciate it. We¡¯re done with this conversation.¡± Silence enveloped the car. I can see Aggie trying her best not to tear up from the corners of my eyes. Whenever we met, Aggie would say she¡¯s sorry for what happened. She would say it all the time when she visited me regularly in Harmony every Saturday. It¡¯s sometimes so frustrating. I¡¯m not saying I hate her but I just don¡¯t like how she keeps on bringing up the past. She must¡¯ve felt guilty for calling the cops. I don¡¯t blame her. She just wanted to help us ¨C even though it went awry. My relative on the other hand ¨C my uncles, aunties and cousins ¨C doesn¡¯t seem to care about me anymore. They bought the idea that I killed my parents and so eventually, I¡¯m an outcast to them. We passed the corn farms at the entrance of the suburban area here, at Moonlit Creek. The grass was green and looked comforting. The trees rose steadily along the roads, forming a shade from the radiant glowing sun. ¡°You¡¯re hungry?¡± Aggie consulted. ¡°I guess..¡± I answered. I haven¡¯t eaten since last night. ¡°Okay, let¡¯s go grab some food¡± We stopped by a diner named ¡®Eat n Dine¡¯ and ordered some foods. I chose to eat some egg sandwiches with some mayonnaise and Aggie ate some omelets. We continued on our journey while conferring each other about life and how¡¯s it going, which is quite irony considering I¡¯m locked up in Harmony for the past five years. I told her about Gina and Jenny and the stuffs she made me do. About 10 minutes from the diner, we¡¯ve arrived at Aggie¡¯s house. It¡¯s a bit funny. Considering her attractive look and nice behavior, Aggie is still living alone. Oh, by the way, Aggie is thirty seven years old. ¡°Nice house¡± I expressed when I surveyed the front view of the house. It look nothing like her old house back in Boston. Her house was red. This is white. I carried all my stuffs inside and she helped to unpack them afterwards in my room. ¡°You¡¯ll have to go to high school next month¡± Aggie blurted out. ¡°What? No way!¡± ¡°You have to, Eona,¡± she uttered sternly. ¡°You should make some friends, and this is one of the way.¡± ¡°I don¡¯t need it. I can live with myself, alone being miserable.¡± I stood up and went out of the room and straight out of the house. What is wrong with her? High school, seriously? I walked along the path on the side of the road, not knowing where to go. I needed sometime alone. The air was fresh. The flowers swayed through the breeze. For a moment, I felt really peaceful. Later, I found myself alone, with no one around near a ruined building with warning signs all over, saying ¡°DO NOT ENTER¡± ¡°Hey, new girl?¡± I turned and saw two guys about my age. One was wearing a simple T shirt with some unique design on it and he was wearing a pair of black pants while the other was simply wearing a tank-top with a V neck and a pair of blue jeans. Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions. ¡°What are you doing here?¡± the one with the T-shirt asked. I didn¡¯t know what to say. I was at loss for words for some unknown reason. When I stayed quiet, the T-shirt guy continued on, while he thrust his fingers at himself and his friend. ¡°Oh, I¡¯m Drew. And this is Brad¡± ¡°Eona. Eona Guillory¡± Brad smirked ¡°Nice name, Eona. What¡¯cha doing out here all alone?¡± He gestured to the sky. ¡°It¡¯s gonna rain soon y¡¯know.¡± ¡°Uh.. nothing? I guess..¡± Brad and Drew exchanged looks and they smiled. ¡°Well, if you¡¯ve got nothing to do, why don¡¯t you join us and c¡¯mere and let¡¯s have some fun¡± Drew whispered. ¡°Yea.. come on girl,¡± Brad agreed. I really don¡¯t like where this is going. ¡°No thanks,¡± I declined. ¡°What? Come on.. ,¡± Brad went on. ¡°No. I said no. Now if you please excuse m ¨C¡° Drew grasped my hands and Brad tried to lift me up. I struggled for a bit and somehow managed to squeeze myself away from his wrath. ¡°Let go, pervert!¡± I warned Drew. Drew, not listening, keeps on pulling me in closer. I attacked him but it seem to have very little effect, if no effect at all, to him. Brad approached my back and pressed his hand to my mouth. I bit his hand and pushed him away with my legs and then I drop to the floor and hit Drew in his nuts. Drew yelped in pain as he let go of my hands. Brad¡¯s getting up and he tackled me. I fall to the ground with Brad sitting on my body. ¡°You insolent slut!¡± he bawled. My heartbeat started to rise. My head started to spin. I¡¯m hearing voices in my head. What the heck is happening? Are you gonna let these wretched men ruin your life? Just like how it happened before? I swallowed my fears and managed to get my head onto Brad¡¯s ear when he¡¯s leaning in to kiss me. I bit his left ear as hard as I could and tore it off his head. Blood splattered onto my clothes and Brad cursed in pain. I pushed him off me, stood up and kicked his head. Drew was getting up. Before he could steady himself, I rushed to him and sweep him off the ground. He fall once again. There was a big rock nearby. As furious as I am, I lifted the rock, ignoring my aching muscles agonizing at the weight of it. Just as Drew was about to get up, I hit his head with the rock and he fainted. I threw the rock away and looked at Brad¡¯s direction. He was still in pain. He stares back at me with malevolent eyes. ¡°You bitch!¡± he cursed. I left the place and went back through the path where I came from. I entered a nearby shop, trying to avoid those two men from finding me. Then I realized. What if I killed Drew? What if they reported me to the police. Oh god¡ But it wasn¡¯t my fault. They were trying to rape me. I was just acting out of defense. Right?? A lot is going on in my head. The crowds of the people in the shop does not help. I left the building and went back to Aggie¡¯s house. Upon arriving, I saw Aggie on her front porch, talking to someone. She got a serious look on her face. I focused my eyes on the person she was talking to. It was a man. He was wearing a blue suit and a blue hat. It was a cop. Nefarious Alike. Chapter 2.
