《What a way to go:Discontinued》 Chapter 1 - What a way to go "Another day... For what? What purpose do I serve, and what is to be gained in this ugly world?" "Nothing... As I thought. Thanks for always failing to answer my questions." Sighed a despondent young man as he laid in the grass with his hand stretched towards the stars. John was not a very cheerful teenager for many good reasons. He saw no good in this world, and no purpose for humans to exist. At the age of eight John had found his father hanging from the second story balcony of their home with his own belt. He had known his father to be suffering from depression, but did not think the severity was of that degree. His mother took to drinking heavily and surviving off of government funds after their home was lost and bankruptcy was filed. Friends you ask? None to speak of, as no one wanted to spend time with this depressing young man, or deal with his drunken mother in their rundown apartment. His mother took to beating him at the age of twelve to relieve her own pent up sorrow and angst. That was the reason John stayed out most nights until his mother passed out. When John arrived home he walked in and silently made his way to the bathroom. It was a little past eleven PM at this point and he was sure his mother was out of the house, or asleep. The only pleasure he had in this world, was taking a long bath. He enjoyed just laying in the warm water and letting his thoughts dissipate as he was hit with a wave of relief. Nothing seemed to matter as he lay there submerged. Unfortunately, as he was submerged he couldn¡¯t hear what was occurring around him at this point in time. His mother had entered the room in a daze, bottle still in hand. John heard glass shatter and opened his eyes from under the water. Before he could even process what was going on, he could see the silhouette of his mother reflecting off of the surface of the water above him. A plethora of thoughts assaulted his mind much to his disdain, but before he could dwell on them further his mother was sitting on his abdomen and holding him under the water. As john struggled, his mother did not let up and he slowly felt his consciousness fading. John had not seen a light at the end of a tunnel, his life did not flash before his eyes, nor did he have any fear. He simply had a very forlorn look on his face, and his last thought was, ¡° What a way to go¡¡± -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John peered into the endless black void before him, and he saw no paradise, no hell, nothing. It was just emptiness. ¡°As I thought, there¡¯s no purpose¡ Nothing.¡± As he was floating, everything turned white and he was standing in what seemed to be an endless white space. There was no ground, no sky, and it seemed to go on forever. As John wondered where he was he heard a soft voice that echoed as if there was a reverb. ¡°Young man, do not fear me.¡± John focused his eyes, but all he could see was an outline. It reminded him of the camouflage used in the series of halo video games as he could see the silhouette, but it simply looked like a see through human figure about six feet in height. ¡°I suppose you are god.¡± Said John in a rather apathetic tone. ¡°I am one of them, yes.¡± ¡°Polytheism, huh? there¡¯s going to be a lot of very angry religions.¡± ¡°That is not of my concern. I have been watching you for a good portion of your life and am truly sorry for the experience you lived. You did not deserve any of the cards fate dealt you, mortal.¡± ¡°That¡¯s life. I suppose I am going to hell for not worshipping a higher being?¡± ¡°Not in the slightest. Normally, the soul would either stay in the void to reflect upon their sins, or be reborn on the planet they originated. Your case is special, I took pity upon your soul and devised an alternative option.¡± Support the creativity of authors by visiting the original site for this novel and more. ¡°Oh¡ Well, just do what you will then.¡± Said John, not really caring whatsoever. ¡°Just¡ hear me out here.¡± Stated the higher being in what John assumed to be a slightly ticked off, but patient tone. ¡°Very well¡¡± ¡°I know in your younger years you found solace in role playing games, but became bored due to the lack of depth and purpose contained within. I am going to offer you a fresh start in a world that functions like one of those games. Your path is yours to decide, and the depth is endless. I only ask that you try and find the good in this world, and make the most of your life. Would that interest you, mortal?¡± ¡°It would¡ I have one condition though.¡± ¡°By all means, name it.¡± ¡°I don¡¯t want any parents. They only bring grief.¡± ¡°That complicates things greatly¡ But I believe I can accommodate that request. Standby for a short while, and I will have you reborn.¡± ¡°Hey¡ Thank you¡ What was your name?¡± ¡°I am the Greater God of Change, Myrion.¡± Said the being. ¡°Myrion¡ I will remember that a god has done something for me, thank you.¡± Said the boy, welling up with emotions. ¡°You are most welcome, cherish your new life.¡± Everything then went black. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ¡°.....¡± ¡°Where¡ Am I?¡± John looked down and saw a light blue grass below him and realized he was hanging off of the ground. He looked around and saw mucus sacs hanging from the trees. He tried moving but soon realized he couldn¡¯t feel any of his appendages. His own sac burst open as he fell to the ground with a *bloop* noise. It hadn¡¯t hurt at all and he was thoroughly confused. He then saw another sac pop open as a green slime reminiscent to old rpgs he played fell to the ground. ¡°No¡ No way.¡± ¡°Ehh, well slime was one of the only races without parents¡ Sorry about that. Right now, you are a weak monster in this world, but with levelling and evolution you can decide your own path and I have graced you with a very helpful blessing. Simply think the word ¡®status¡¯ and it should all become clear. This will be the last time I will be able to converse with you directly. Good luck.¡± Said Myrion as his voice faded out. ¡°Wha¡ Status!¡± Screamed John, as emotions began to sweep over him.

¡°That¡¯s¡ Broken. Perhaps I will survive in this world after all if I gain a couple levels.¡± As the unnamed slime was pondering his thoughts, he was approached by two other slimes. ¡°Bobbily, Bobbily! Let¡¯s go play¡ We can eat little critters. It¡¯s a Goo-tiful day!¡± Said the one slime. ¡°My name isn¡¯t Bobbily¡ You can call me¡ Ash.¡± ¡°Ash?¡± The slime looked at him confused. *ding*
Name changed to Ash.
¡°Ohhh yeah, I¡¯m just being goo-fy! Ash! Of course. Come play!¡± As he finished his sentence, the three heard rustling. Ash went to quickly hide behind a tree as the other two sat there puzzled. Just as soon as he had hidden himself, Ash saw what he assumed to be three novice adventurers emerge from the treeline. ¡°Oh¡ Great, I am near a noob village.¡± Ash thought. The slimes were just bouncing up and down looking at the adventurers. Clearly they were devoid of any sense of fear. A man with a mace didn¡¯t even flinch as he brought his mace down and sent goo in all directions. The other one had a wand and hurled a small fireball at the other shivering slime. It absorbed the fireball, grew in size, and promptly exploded. ¡°Yeah, I am going to die again.¡± Thought Ash. ¡°alright! This one dropped a dagger!¡± One of the adventurers stated proudly. Ash not missing the opportunity, slowly bounced his way deeper into the forest. He had finally found a slightly hollowed out tree and squeezed his way inside and realized a few seconds later that two squirrels lived here. Fearing for his life he attempted to bounce on them to see if it would do any damage. Much to surprise, the squirrels were absorbed in his body and dissolved quite easily. He also found that he no longer felt hungry. *ding*

¡°Wow¡ This really is just like an RPG.¡± Stated Ash as he finally took a much needed nap. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on Royal Road. Upon waking up in the morning, Ash realized he would need two things to survive in this world: Experience and allies. Allies could come at a later time, and Ash realized he needed to hunt right now. Bouncing his way to a meadow, Ash saw many of his slime brethren. He felt slightly apologetic for what he was about to do, but it was necessary to grow and survive. The rest of the morning was spent absorbing his fellow slimes. He had gained six levels and a new title that he was not fond of¡ *ding*
New title! - Cannibal If activated, members of the same race as you will flee at the sight of you. Also, consuming their flesh will restore your HP. Note - You may only have 10 titles active at a time.
Ash shuddered slightly. He now felt even more apologetic and was sure he would never activate that title. He was pleased that absorb had ranked up four times though. He then proceed to dump twenty points into strength, speed, and vitality. He put the last remaining ten in endurance. In this world, strength seemed to increase physical ability, speed obviously how fast you move and attack speed, vitality increased HP and defense, intelligence increased mana and spell damage, wisdom increased spell resistance, dexterity increased ability in crafting skills, luck increased critical hit chance and every little thing a little bit, endurance increased stamina, and hell if I know what faith is good for¡ It also seems every level I gain twenty health, mana, and stamina passively which is useful as well. These can be increased further by twenty per point utilizing vitality(health), intelligence(mana), and endurance(stamina). ¡°Status!¡± Ash yelled.

¡°it seems I might survive a bit better now.¡± Ash noticed over the next few days that even the traits of the world itself were RPG-esque. The slimes would respawn daily as more of the sacs appeared on the trees, and he could not discern their actual origin. The rogue slime kept brutally absorbing its relatives for a month until he was finally level 99. He felt bad for ending the lives of so many of the fun-loving, absent minded little critters, but it was a necessary evil. ¡°God¡ That took forever.¡± Stated a dejected slime. Looking around Ash noticed there were no more slimes in the area. As he surveyed his surroundings, Ash saw one lone slime. It was different from the rest. This slime sagged a bit, had a pair of spectacles, and a beard. The slime bounced slowly over to Ash, who assumed it was a boss. Ash moved to absorb this slime as well with a confidence unknown to the rest of slime-kind due to his inflated stats. ¡°Hold on, hold on.... You abhorrent addition to our kind.¡± Said the old slime hastily. ¡°Wow, you can really talk well.¡± ¡°Yes, it comes with the age, lad. My name is Pappy Slime, and as you can see you wiped out our breeding ground in this area you genocidal cannibal. I¡¯ve not got long left to live as it is, but I see that you¡¯re something entirely unique to this world and wish to be a part of that. I should survive another day at best, but dying alone is such a waste. Absorb me and you will get a skill that will be extremely useful to you for the rest of your life¡ I only ask that you do a little good in the world as to not let all the slimes you killed die in vain.¡± Ash nodded as the old slime drew close. It then offered a prayer to a god Ash was unfamiliar with and proceeded to close its eyes. Ash felt bad absorbing this seemingly very intelligent slime, but did so at its request regardless. Upon absorbing him, he received a few messages. *ting*
