《New Origin》 Chapter 0: Reminiscing in Limbo. I can only remember important parts of my past. My name, my immediate family, where I went to high school; that kind of stuff. And now i''m in what seems to be an endless void. This may have to do with my most recent out-of-void memory, which was of me getting shot in the head by some random soldiers... I guess that means i''m dead. Oh well, it''s not like my life was going very great at the time. When the war started my family and I tried to escape from the invading forces, but we were caught almost immediately and I had to watch as my family got executed. I think that was the day I lost most of my emotions. After that I just roamed around for a few years, killing invaders and watching the various horrors of war. On the journey I found peace of mind and decided to enjoy my life for however long I had left. Of course there''s not much enjoyment to be found in a world where everyone is killing each other, but I still gave it a try. I spent time creating stuff, reading interesting things, and killing important looking invaders. I suppose that last hobby was what got me killed, but I think it was worth it. Stolen story; please report. Now that i''m done sorting through my memories, what''s gonna happen to me? I don''t think i''m supposed to me conscious in here. Never mind... yeah, i''m blacking out... Author Note: I decided against using visual tables due to: A) I read a little about how to make them, and I don''t want to spend an hour or two getting the hang of it. B) I''m lazy/impatient and I don''t want to spend time doing it because it''s boring. I''m going to use stats a lot, but I don''t want to spend the time and effort needed to do all that. P.S. I hope you enjoy the story~ Chapter 1: A New Origin He awoke and opened his eyes. ''...Didn''t I die?'' He thought as he looked around. The surrounding area was what seemed to be a typical forest, with the addition of strange flora. He sat up, but when his body felt a little sluggish he examined himself. "Why the fuck is my body so messed up!?" His body appeared to be that of a child''s. Not only was his body small, but his skin was black and his limbs had a metal coating on them. After snapping out of his shock he noticed two people sleeping against a tree on the ground near him. They had metal limbs and black skin like himself, but looked to be fully grown. He stood up and attempted to wake them. After a few seconds he noticed they were dead. ''Maybe these were my parents.'' He thought as a possibility while trying to figure out what exactly was going on. The couple were holding hands even in death. A few dozen painful looking wounds adorned their bodies, making one wonder how they could die with such relieved expressions. The wounds seemed to have been made from swords, bullets, and some sort of acid. He steeled his resolve and decided to search their bodies for something useful. This was a place he had no knowledge about, and he might find something that could help him. Food, water, and information were the main subjects of his search, but considering he had no idea where he was right now, the language these people use probably won''t be English. The male metal person had a backpack that was mostly empty next to him. Inside were bandages, some weird looking gems, sunglasses, a large knife, and some random coins. ''The bandages and knife are useful, but I don''t know about these other things'' A little dismayed about not finding food or water, he turned to search the female metal person. She didn''t have a backpack, but had a long sword and coin bag with a necklace inside of it at her hip. After searching for any pockets, he couldn''t find anything else. While looking at their faces, he felt more calm and warm inside. If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. ''I''m glad I could feel this emotion again.'' He thought, some regret showing on his face. Just before he was about to leave, he noticed something was glowing in their hands. When he opened them, he found a small glowing seed. He gave it a quick look over, but could not find anything that might mean it''s dangerous to eat, except that it was glowing menacingly. He also had a strange feeling that this seed would taste really good. Even though his common sense was screaming at him to stay away from the seed, he thought he would take his chances on whatever his new world parents had kept safe. "Ew! It tastes like carrots!" He waited for a moment, almost expecting something else that was bad to happen, and he was right. An intense pain invaded his entire body as he passed out within seconds. He woke up in a void like space again, except this time there was a glowing screen with a message in front of him. ¨„ You have consumed the ''Evos Seed'', A rank ¨dGod like¨g object! You may now create your new species. ¨„ After reading the message he got knowledge of how to create the new species in this space. At that moment he concluded that this was no longer his world. He thought that maybe he was still on earth, just reincarnated in the future when most of civilization collapsed or something. But this new information indicates that this is a place with different laws of physics. Awe overtook him as he thought about the bizarre situation coming straight out of a fantasy novel. Before he got too unfocused, he started playing with the species creator screen. Chapter 2: Learning the Game ''Wow, it''s like i''m playing a game.'' He thought as he read the information about the stat and magic systems of this world. All he had to do was think about creating a species, and a screen appeared in front of him showing a 3D model of himself and his stats to be used as an example. This is how he learned his new name: ''Trego''. He accepted it wholeheartedly as his new world name. Reading though the information also gave him the name of this world: Atomiton. He thought that name could''ve been better. It gives you a million ''Evos Points'' to spend on species stats, skills, and magic attributes. You could also sell stats and skills you already had for more points. If you wanted more information on something, it describes it in more detail and shows examples. Basically in this world all species get base stats. Sometimes they also get skills and magic attributes. The stats are as follows: Strength: Measures muscle power and muscle reaction time. Agility: Measures muscle flexibility and overall speed. Dexterity: Measures overall reaction time and accuracy. Vitality: Measures resistance to diseases and natural negative effects. Also increases health. Endurance: Measures resistance to damage, pain, and other negative effects. Also increases stamina. Intelligence: Measures memory and calculation making speed. Also increases mana. Wisdom: Measures knowledge of this world and understanding of culture/language. Also increases mana recovery speed. Charisma: Measures attraction, leadership ability, and communication ability. Luck: Measures likely hood of things going your way. Health is calculated by: (Level*100)+(Vitality*10), Regen = Vitality/200 Stamina is calculated by: (Level*100)+(Endurance*10), Regen = Endurance/100 Mana is calculated by: (Level*100)+(Intelligence*10), Regen = (Intelligence/500)+(Wisdom/50) Stats are generally changed permanently by leveling up, doing activities that increase them, getting titles, and getting passive skills. They can also be changed temporarily by active skills, special items, and magic. Stats basically just represent your bodies power in vague numbers. So when your stats change, your body changes too. Every level you get 5 points in each stat and you can appoint 10 stat points. Experience is earned by leveling up passive skills and killing things, thus taking a portion of their experience. Most animals and monsters don''t get levels the same way. They get levels assigned to them by their base stats. They can still get experience and can level up, but they don''t get to assign any stat points. By doing specific training you can increase stats. For example card games for Intelligence, running for Endurance, and talking with people for Charisma. Titles are granted by doing extraordinary feats and give amazing stat bonuses/skills. Passive skills can include things like increased regeneration, farming efficiency, and weapon mastery. PS generally give small stat bonuses and abilities. Most passive skills can be turned on and off, but some can''t. They can be earned naturally by racial/bloodline traits, or doing an activity repeatedly. There are also skill books, but they are rare. Active skills can include things like shape shifting, temporary buffs, and special attacks. Active Skills are skills activated for a short amount of time and/or cost mana, stamina, or health. Skill books for these are more common, but it''s even more common for them to be taught. In rare cases they can be racial/bloodline traits. Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author. Both passive skills and active skills are ranked by how useful/powerful they are. The ranks are as follows: H>G>F>E>D>C>B>A>S>Z. Depending on the type of skill, you can rank it up. Most racial/bloodline trait skills cannot be ranked up. Magic should be thought of as a completely different system. Every living being in the world has mana, and almost every intelligent race has a magic attribute. To use magic you first need to learn a magic spell within your attribute and have the imaginative abilities to actually use it. Once those requirements are met you can use the spell with a thought. Most peoples imagination is bad so they can only use basic spells by reciting them. Magic spells have the same ranks as skills, except you can''t rank them up. If you want your spell to be stronger, you''ll have to learn its higher level equivalent. The attribute types are Fire, Water, Air, Earth (Ex. Stone), Lightning, Vegetation (Ex. Plants), Light (Ex. Positive buffs and lightness), Dark (Ex. negative buffs and darkness), Energy (Ex. Everything), Void (Ex. Nothing), Spirit (Ex. Souls of the dead are summoned and help the caster) , Fusis (Ex. Combining various magic types), and Lexeme (Ex. Using magic runes to imbue objects with certain magic types). All magic attributes have a rarity of 1/10 except Spirit (1/1250), Fusis (1/12500), and Lexeme (1/1250) due to requiring one or more different attributes. Having two attributes is a 1/100 chance, and having three attributes is a 1/1000 chance, but all that is based on a race who are born with random magic attributes like humans or orcs. Some family bloodlines and races have bias to starting attributes. People can get more attributes by absorbing a magis pod. They are significantly rare and only appear in areas associated with the attribute. He was apparently a ''Gorn'', a slightly small humanoid race with black skin and metal limbs. The stats were not too different from humans, who have ten as all base stats and balanced magic attribute distribution. The large differences between the two include being sensitive to light and having a bias to the darkness and earth magic attributes. Using all this information at his disposal, he started making his new species... An hour later "Okay! looks like i''m finished. Ha ha ha, now this world will know true terror." He looked at his stats one last time before pressing ''Finish''. It had been night before he ate the seed, but he didn''t notice because it was one of the Gorns racial abilities. He stood up and gave his new body a good stretch. He was now a Jres, a 2 meter tall race with ash grey skin, white hair, ears like that of an elves, except with two outward spikes, two iris'' with the same color as their two natural magic attributes, and tattoos all around the body, also colored after their magic attributes. Trego wasn''t sure how to make the faces look for each gender, so he used his Gorn parents as models. After stretching he went over to his parents bodies. They still had those relieved faces even when rotting. Trego found a nice spot in the area and started digging two holes, luckily their bodies were small so he didn''t have to dig much. After burying them next to each other he plunged the long sword into the ground to use as a grave marker. ''May you find happiness if you have a next life'' After a few seconds of silence he decided to examine the items he has. This world had a lot of similarities to games, so it wouldn''t be hard to imagine you could do this as well. Trego took out everything he got yesterday and thought about wanting more information about them. Immediately a floating screen like the ones he got before displayed some details about his items: ¨„ Leather Backpack ¨dNormal¨g Effects: Can carry things inside ¨„ ¨„ Monster Ward ¨dRare¨g Effects: ??? ¨„ ¨„ Fire Attribute Crystal ¨dGreat¨g Effects: ??? ¨„ ¨„ Sunglasses ¨dNormal¨g Effects: Blocks some light when worn ¨„ ¨„ Gorn Battle Knife ¨dGreat¨g Effects: Can cut very well, ??? ¨„ ¨„ Blue Silver Coins ¨dNormal¨g ¨„ ¨„ Leather Coin bag ¨dNormal¨g Effects: Can carry things inside ¨„ ¨„ Wenel Family Necklace ¨dFine¨g Effects: ??? ¨„ He also tried to get more information about the local plant life, but could only get names. "Hmm, I guess the reason I was able to survive this long was because of the monster ward" Trego had questioned why wild animals didn''t eat him or his parents while he was passed out, but he finally got his answer. After holding the Wenel family necklace for a few more seconds, he put everything except the monster ward, knife, and sunglasses into the backpack. He then wrapped the monster ward around his parents grave marker and said a quick goodbye. Finally too anxious to bare it any longer, he set out to scout the area and test his new abilities. After walking around for half an hour Trego found a large group of red monkeys the size of adult humans making random noises. He attempted to examine one of them and a screen appeared above its head stated: ¨„ Red Kils Chimp ¨dLevel:10¨g ¨„ Trego wasn''t sure if these were one of the races of this world or just animals, so he activated his skill ''Language Conversion'' to see what they were saying. The cost was five thousand mana, but it stays active for as long as you like. All he got as feedback were words like ''hungry'' or ''bored'', so he waited until one of the monkeys wandered away from the group and snuck behind it. He never really liked sneaking around to kill people, but right now he was about as weak as a child, so it was his best option. When right behind it he covered its mouth and slit its throat at the same time. Since it didn''t die Trego started stabbing in its chest area while trying to keep it restrained. After the third stab he found its heart and it died. Level Up! Level Up! The skill also gave him a bonus experience gain. While trying to figure out how a monkey got so skilled with a knife, he remembered that he was actually very good with knives. Trego came to a different conclusion and started writing in the dirt with a stick. ¨„ Acquired passive skill ''English Language'' rank ¨dE¨g, Effects: Understanding of English writing, +5 Wisdom. 50% ¨„ ¨„ Acquired passive skill ''Basic Mathematics'' rank ¨dD¨g, Effects: Knowledge of basic math, +10 Intelligence. ¨„ ¨„ Acquired passive skill ''Advanced Mathematics'' rank ¨dC¨g, Effects: Knowledge of advanced math, +50 Intelligence. ¨„ ¨„ Acquired passive skill ''Basic Physics'' rank ¨dC¨g, Effects: Knowledge of basic physics, +75 Intelligence. ¨„ After writing some English and math on the ground he got these skills. "It seems my conclusion was right, I keep the skills from my previous life, but the system only updates when I put it to use. But why did I not get ''English Language'' when I spoke earlier?" He said out loud again hoping it would work. It didn''t so he guessed it meant he had to talk to somebody. Done with figuring out how that all worked, he went over to the monkey''s body to see if he would get any loot. After waiting five minutes with nothing happening, he lost hope and started using the second part of his power. He activated ''Jres Disintegration'', a sub-skill of Jres Reaping that allows him to absorb the effects of objects. This meant after killing something and taking its skills, he could also take its stats. Unfortunately it takes a lot of concentration and it can''t be used more than once on the same type of object. The cost was also pretty high at fifty mana per second. Once Trego activated Jres Disintegration, a small black sphere appeared in his hand. He brought the sphere to the corpse and the body turned to ash. In return he got about a hundred in each stat except in Intelligence, Wisdom, and Luck. Intelligence and Wisdom both gave him seven, and Luck gave him nothing due to his skill ''Anti Luck'', which makes the Luck stat unavailable. The only reason he got it was because he needed more Evos Points, and the Luck stat is kind of useless. Since he got some more stats, he continued hunting the monkeys for a while longer to test his new capabilities. After killing three more monkeys he leveled up three more times and found out some information on his ability. When he killed another one of the monkeys, his power strikes experience went up, even though he didn''t use it. This means the skills he takes don''t combine with each other and only get replaced if he gets a higher level version of the skill. The group started to act more wary after four of their comrades disappeared, so he decided to look for different prey after gathering the meat and pelts of the monkeys he killed. While walking around again for about ten minutes, collecting useful herbs on the way, he ran into a huge snake ¨„ Nedla Viper ¨dLevel:22¨g ¨„ Since Trego wasn''t as helpless as before he attacked it from the front. The viper immediately spit poison at him, but he dodged it with ease and countered by throwing his knife at the snake. The viper also dodged it, but while it was distracted by the knife Trego used Power Strike on it, knocking it into a nearby tree. Before it could recover, Trego grabbed his knife and cut off its head. Killing it gained him a level the skills: The author''s content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.¨„ Active skill ''Nedla Venom'' rank ¨dF¨g, Effects: A painless poison that stops the heart. ¨„ ¨„ Active skill ''Power Bite'' rank ¨dG¨g, Effects: Jaw strength is increased by 2.0 times momentarily, Cost: 100 stamina. 3% ¨„ ¨„ Active skill ''Constrict'' rank ¨dG¨g, Effects: Grip strength is increased momentarily. 24% ¨„ ¨„ Passive skill ''Tongue Smelling'' rank ¨dF¨g, Effects: Smell with your tongue. ¨„ ¨„ Passive skill ''Scale Skin'' rank ¨dG¨g, Effects: Grow scales for 3% physical damage reduction, +10 Endurance. ¨„ Due to the skill ''Scale Skin'' Trego grew scales all over his body. It would be useful in battle, but right now it just looks weird so he deactivated it. After resting for a few minutes and absorbing the bodies stats, he continued hunting for the rest of the day. He met various new monsters and took their skills. While wandering he almost ran into a giant web. On the web was a ¨„ Kils Giant Tree Spider ¨dLevel:27¨g ¨„ A giant neon green and black spider, about 2/3 the size of a human. The spider jumped on him after he noticed it, and after a few seconds of struggling and swearing he threw it off. The spider tried to lunge at him again, but Trego cut off two of its legs so it couldn''t jump anymore. The spider probably felt cornered and unleashed a fury of thrusting attacks. He got hit by a few attacks, but was able jump to its side and spit Nedla Venom into the spiders leg wounds. It only took about ten seconds for the spider to die. Level Up! He wondered what it would look like after he got a few more natural armor skills. Trego ate some herbs he found that increased health regeneration and started searching for a nice place to relax and get a drink. When he found a small lake he drank some water and lied down to relax a little. After twenty minutes a small group of ¨„ Horned Fres Toad ¨dLevel:13¨g ¨„ attacked him. They look like normal toads with small horns. They spit poison at him, and unfortunately some got on him. It hurt so much he almost screamed out loud. It was a poison that felt like fire was burning your skin so even when he activated his natural armor skills it still hurt. When he tried to wash it off in the water, he found the toads blocking the way. He decided to chance it by rushing at them and hope they come with an antidote to the poison. After killing one of them the other toads seemed to smirk, maybe because now that toads poison exploded all over their victims foot. Their delight soon faded as they saw a mischievous smile appear on their would be victims face. After killing the rest of the toads Trego got two levels and the skills: ¨„ Passive skill ''Poison Resistance'' rank ¨dF¨g, Effects: Resist up to F rank poisons. 0% ¨„ ¨„ Active skill ''Fres Poison'' rank ¨dF¨g, Effects: A painful poison that slowly erodes material. ¨„ Trego decided to go home and rest for the remainder of the day. On the way he encountered some bugs and killed them. He hoped that he would get something out of it, but didn''t. He would probably need to find a special bug to get a skill. He disintegrated the bodies, but the stat gains were really low so he decided not to waste time on bugs anymore All of a sudden Trego fell in a hole. Before he could react to the situation, a small furry rodent with big claws attacked him. It was a ¨„ Golden Mole ¨dLevel:16¨g ¨„ A mole the size of a child with golden fur. The mole cut in his arm made him grimace, but he still managed to grab the mole with his other arm and break its neck. Before he could relax a white rabbit thing the size of a doberman ran out of some nearby bushes ¨„ Jackaloe ¨dLevel:35¨g ¨„. It had long legs, a wide mouth, and long sharp teeth. Trego was a little creeped out at the creatures appearance, so he wanted to deal with it fast. Before he could come up with a plan the Jackaloe ran at him with amazing speed and almost bit his head off. In response Trego spat Fres Poison on it, but the Jackaloe didn''t seem to mind. It kept diving at him so Trego couldn''t get a good hit on it. Eventually Trego got annoyed, so he began making a web between his hands. Once complete, he waited for the Jackaloe to jump at him again. The timing was perfect and it was caught in Trego''s web net. ¨„ Acquired active skill ''Web Net'' rank ¨dF¨g, Effects: Create an intricate net out of strong silk. 1% ¨„ Surprisingly he got a new skill out of that move. The now in a good mood Trego strolled over to the struggling Jackaloe and taunted it a little before killing it. Once Trego got back to his safe zone he started making it a little more homey. He made a small fire pit and piled some leafs together for a makeshift bed. There''s not much you can do when you''re stranded in the woods. He also remembered to take the effects of the herbs he collected. Before going to bed Trego began cooking the chimp meat he got earlier. To make the fire he used the fire attribute stone as a friction device against wood. The meat was a little hard to chew but it was alright. While eating he tried to make some clothes with the Red Kils Chimp pelts. Trego was currently naked, with the exception of sunglasses, because he outgrew his old clothes and his parent''s clothes were also too small. ¨„ Passive skill ''Sewing Proficiency'' rank ¨dF¨g, Effects: Increased sewing skill, +25 Dexterity. 38% ¨„ Luckily he was pretty good at sewing. I''ll probably upload more than five chapters next weekend and maybe a map of the continent if I feel it''s good enough. I''d appreciate it if you let me know of any mistakes I made, but it should be fine most of the time. Byesies~ Announcement I decided I wouldn''t like uploading every weekend, so i''m not going to upload chapters until I have at least half of the story done and my writing skills are better. I''ll also redo the first few chapters I already uploaded because I don''t like them very much, and it might conflict what I want later in the story. So to summarize, I won''t upload for 3-4 months, i''m doing this now before the story goes too far, and you should go away for now.
