《The 'npc' Time Mage》 prologue- nerfd Roger Skye was a gamer. Not just any gamer, he was a dark gamer; a gamer that lives off of games, selling items, doing interviews. He was powerful, with a unique class that only he had, spells that only he had, and the highest level on the entire Immortality Online server. That was why he was so annoyed right now. You see ,Roger was a time mage. A time mage specializes in slowing down, speeding up, stopping, and starting time. This, as you can probably see, is extremely powerful in pvp. Players envy him, for getting such an amazing class. The top players, however, hate him. His class is so unfair, that there have been multiple petitions on the Immortality Online forums to nerf him. Whether by banning, giving him penalties, giving other people the class, taking it away from him, and many more suggestions. It got so bad, that some of the top players threatened to quit, and go to other games. When this happened, the Pegasus entertainment, the company who runs royal road, had to make a decision. They could lose all of those players, which would be extremely bad for business, or they could possibly antagonize their research partner. The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. You see, Roger was somewhat special. The only reason that Pegasus entertainment could create Immortality Online with the time compression of 1:3, was because of him. Roger was born able to use over 70% of his brain. The time compression puts a lot of strain on the brain, because basically, the brain has to process things three times faster than it normally does. With Roger''s consent, along with the promise of a special class able to use his brainpower to the fullest, they were able to create technology that takes the burden off of the brain, making it safe for regular use. This put Pegasus Entertainment in a dilemma. Offend Roger and ruin any chances they had of making the capsule able to handle a time compression increase, or offend the players, and lose a lot of their popularity as the best virtual reality game out there. Finally, they called Roger with an offer. Prologue-The Deal Prologue- the deal Ttring ttring! Ttring ttring! Roger sighed as he answered the phone. ¡°Hello? He said. ¡°Hey roger, what¡¯s up?¡± The voice said. ¡°What do you want¡± Roger asked. ¡°I¡¯ve already said that I won¡¯t be available for testing this month John.¡± ¡°no, no, that¡¯s not it at all! Hehe. In fact, it has to do with the game, more specifically your profile.¡± ¡°what¡¯s it about?¡± ¡°Well, how do I put this. Have you read the forums lately?¡± John asked. ¡°Can¡¯t say I have, why?¡± ¡°Well, there are a lot of people complaining about your character, Chronos. Almost all the top pvpers and plenty others are threatening to quit the game because it¡¯s ¡®Too unfair¡¯, Because your character is so good. ¡°so? I don¡¯t care, I worked hard to get my character to the top. It¡¯s not like my character is completely unbalanced, there are plenty of downsides to it too.¡± And there was. There were many downsides to being a time mage. First and foremost, the class is Time mage. That¡¯s it. There are no alterations, hybrids, advancements, nothing. It may be a slightly overpowered beginner class, but you¡¯re stuck with a beginner class. Second of all, the experience penalty. The time mage class requires 2.25x the amount of experience a normal player needs to reach the next level. Third, the stat boost from leveling up. The way Immortality online works, is that players gain ten stat points for leveling up, that they can use anywhere in their status, no matter the class. They also get five stats that they can only allocate to certain places, decided by their class. Time mages manipulate, well, time, meaning they stop start, fast forward, and slow down time. While this is powerful, Time magic does no damage. Zero, zilch, nada. This means, they need to invest in three main stats. Strength, to do damage, agility to quickly get to a target without waste of mana, and wisdom for mana potency, higher mana pool, and mana regen. Intelligence doesn¡¯t have much use yet, because, well time magic does no damage, and its other use, mana manipulation, is useless with the time mage class, because of the fourth negative to the time mage class. Immortality Online boasts 90% realism, the ten percent not real being the 10% pain, lack of need to go to the bathroom, the ability to revive, and the glowing blue boxes. This means, that without the system assist, players can still use magic. They can feel it, manipulate it, control it, and create new, more powerful spells. All of this is governed by the intelligence stat. This story has been unlawfully obtained without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. The time mage doesn¡¯t have that. It was a class quickly cobbled together, and doesn¡¯t have a mana system. Time magic didn¡¯t even exist before they created it for Roger. This means there is no way to manipulate time without the system assist. You can try and experiment all you want, but all you will do is waste mana. You can¡¯t even replicate the system assist spells, because, unlike other spells, they just take mana and happen. There is no feel of what¡¯s happening, no sense of how to do it. There is nothing. You can¡¯t create new, better spells, make the old spells more efficient, sense mana, or reinforce yourself. Reinforce yourself particularly, as basically the time mage class as it is now is a glorified monk with buffs, being it has no attack magic and it cannot equip anything other than staffs. Roger worked through all that, trained his skills and body to the limit, and made it through the extremely hard early game time mage, what with its insane mana cost spells, into the rewarding late game. Even with the experience penalty, he became the top level character. That means, if he didn¡¯t have the experience penalty, he would be more than double his current level. An example of this is the fact that at to get to level 200, he needed the same experience a normal player needed to get to level 425.But enough about this, back to the call. ¡°It¡¯s not like people know that, what with you never giving any details about your class.¡± John admonished. ¡°Anyway, with all of their threatening, and nonstop annoying, we are stick in a kinda hard spot. We had to make a choice, so we are going to offer you a deal.¡± ¡°What is it? You better not give up to those losers and nerf me.¡± ¡°umm¡¡± ¡°No, no way, if you nerf me I¡¯ll quit.¡± Woah, woah, hold your horses, we know this is unfair, and we can¡¯t nerf you because your not overpowered, so we have to give you something in return. I have a message for you. *clears throat*" "Hello, This is the head of the Immortality online time compression research division, with a letter to Roger Skye, concerning his character. We know that this is sudden, and unfair, but in order to satisfy them, and not ruin your character and its build, we have decided to give you an offer to¡¡¡¡¡± Roger ¡°WHAT??¡± Prologue- Incognito "Sorry for the info dumps, but this is the final prologue! I swear! Probably¡ Also, how to tables? Also again, I hadn¡¯t saved in a bit and half the chapter got deleted when my windows decided to randomly shut down and update¡ stupid windows. It deleted from about the deage yourself weirdo part to the end. It¡¯s not much, but for an amateur writer who really should be doing homework, it¡¯s something :P Prologue- Incognito ¡°We have decided to give you an offer to help both you and us. In order to not permanently change your character, we have decided to set you back to level 1¡¡± Roger ¡±WHAT!!¡± ¡°And in return we will change a certain amount of things about your class and add some things that should¡¯ve been added if the development team wasn¡¯t so lazy¡ along with a feature that we need to add in order to show other players that we ¡®nerfed you¡¯ per say, but didn¡¯t actually.¡± Roger ¡°YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT SETTING ME BACK TO LEVEL 1! For me, who is level 262, that¡¯s like setting a normal player back from level 589! You better have some offer for me to even consider considering it!¡± ¡°Woah, buddy, hold on, remember, you get to negotiate, and I have access to agree on some minor terms, I know setting you back to level 1 is a big deal, doubly so since your skills are as well, and some you shouldn¡¯t have at your level are getting deleted, but..¡± ¡°WHAT¡± ¡°Crap, you heard that? Well, yeah, in order to not make you a overpowered level 1, we have to set your skills back as well, also the stats you manually grinded for. But at least you keep your class?¡± ¡°This is bull, it took me two YEARS to get me to where I am now.¡± ¡°look on the bright side, at least this means you get some concessions, and some big ones at that. Management does Not want you to leave, so you could probably ring out some pretty big ones.¡± ¡°*sigh* Fine. First of all, I want to be able to allocate my class stat points to strength and agili-¡° ¡°No.¡± ¡°What? Why?" "That¡¯s actually a pretty big concession you know, even if I could authorize it, I wouldn¡¯t.¡± ¡°I want my age of dea-¡° ¡°NO!¡± ¡°Oh COMEON!¡± ¡°Seriously, that would take at least three quarters of your concessions.¡± ¡°Fine¡ I want to be able to manipulate mana and make my own spells.¡± ¡°Are you sure?¡± ¡°Of course!¡± ¡°Okay, that¡¯s one, though we were going to do that anyway¡¡± ¡°What did you just say?¡± ¡°Nothing, nothing. Alright, next?¡± ¡°I want to be able to change my avatar from that old dude.¡± ¡°Wasn¡¯t the whole reason you wanted to be able to manipulate time magic to deage a purposely old avatar? Weirdo.¡± ¡°Oi, just because I¡¯m a dark gamer doesn¡¯t mean I can¡¯t rollplay. Okay, second is that I want to be able to have class advancements and class advancement quests, along with time magic spell books a monster can drop just for me, since other people can¡¯t use them anyway¡± ¡°Again, we were going to do that anyway.¡± ¡°What was that?¡± ¡°Nothing, nothing, these are just some hard concessions, but we will do it for you. Are you sure?¡± ¡°Yes. Ok, then, I want the experience penalty gone. ¡°I¡¯m sorry, but we can¡¯t do that. Even I was authorized to make that decision I wouldn¡¯t¡± ¡°What? Why?¡± Questioned Roger. ¡°Because that is a big thing that balances your character. We are getting rid of a lot of balances as it is.¡± ¡°I had the experience equivalent to a level 589, and that is to big of a concession? Whatever. Can you at least lower it a bit?¡± Pleaded Roger. ¡°Eh, I guess, maybe, I will have to talk to management on how much. Be right back.¡± Roger sighed as he lay on his couch. ¡¯At least I¡¯m getting something out of this¡¯, He thought as he gazed upon the beautiful sight of a torn up tv, ratty pillows, fast food wrappers, and a ripped up mattress. Although Roger is, or WAS, the top pvper, as a dark gamer, he is pretty bad. Roger has a hoarding problem in game. Any legendary, mythical, or even artifact items, he hoards to display in his tree house in game, only selling rare or below. The item levels are as follows, from least to greatest. Shoddy, basic, common, uncommon, rare, artifact, mythical, and legendary. Most of the items he sells are really common, and he has to sell boatloads just to keep his two room apartment, one being a bathroom. ¡°Hello? I¡¯m back. So, yeah, management agreed, but only to take It down by .25 and ths is your final request.¡± Well that is better than I-wait what? ¡°Wait what? Level 589, and some expert, advanced, and even master level skills and unique abilities set to level 1 basic or deleted, and that is all I get?¡± ¡°Well, yeah, the experience penalty is an extremely big nerf on your class. It is pretty much the only thing keeping it balanced, as everything else, other than the class stat points for mage class, are getting removed. Like I said, pretty hard requests.(lol) Also, we have a special thing that you have to accept and it is a pretty big deal.¡± ¡°Fine, lets see what this is.¡± ¡°In order to Keep up appearances and such, we are going to announce that since you are a major figure in some politics and kingdoms, we are going to turn your character into an npc, when in reality, we are just going to give you an ability to be an npc. You will be incognito, if you will. This means you will not show up on the city, country, and world player leaderboards and you will only show up on the ¡®everyone¡¯ and ¡®npc¡¯ leaderboards. Also, you can give out quests, but only if you have enough rewards for them, and you can sacrifice experience and stats as rewards for requests.¡± If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. ¡°Wait, does that mean I will still have my contacts and relation with the royalty? And what about my treehouse?¡± Questioned Roger. "oh, and does that mean i can''t get a murderers mark? Because I am disguised as an npc?" "Haha, finding out exploits already, yeah, as long as noone sees you kill someone, and no witnesses remain, you wont''t gain infamy." ¡°No, you will no longer have your contacts in royalty because the excuse is just for appearances sake, as well as to keep people from hunting you. After all, people still think you are a level 262 Time Mage npc. As for your house, well, it will be deleted, an all items set back to be where they were originally.¡± ¡°Seriously? I don¡¯t get a concession for that? I have at least 5 legendary items in there¡± ¡°Fine, what is it.¡± ¡°I want to delete the house and everything in it. If I can¡¯t have them, then no one will! ¡°Wait, but there are only 100 legendaries in the game, and you own 5 of the 9 discovered.¡± ¡°4 remember, I lost my staff. Can I have that back by the way?¡± ¡°Of course not. It is in the hands of a player, we can¡¯t just take it from him, he got it fair and square.¡± ¡®more like he picked it off of my crumbled corpse after he happened to come across the battlefield.¡¯ Roger thought. Flashback I was on a battlefield field filled with corpses. Everything was extremely slow, with me moving faster than their brains could register. After a whole hour of battle, the only thing left of the 200 strong army of elite players the conquerors guild sent after me was 50 players. Unlucky for me, I was almost out of mana. Yes, me, with my absurdly large mana pool, was almost out of mana. The infinity gear on the top of my staff whirring faster that a saw blade with fast forward cast upon it, I was slowly losing the rest of my mana. ¡°Give it up, Chronos!¡± Starmuncher, the leader of the Conquerors guild said to me. ¡°You¡¯re outnumbered and you¡¯re out of mana. You can¡¯t run!¡± I grit my teeth. ¡®looks like I will have to use that skill,¡¯ I thought. My frown slowly turned into a smile, a look of determination on my face. ¡°I may not be able to run, but neither will you!¡± I roared. I raised up my legendary staff of infinity, and slammed it into the ground. ¡°AGE OF DEATH!¡± I roared. Suddenly, everything turned grey. The grass, the bodies, even the players around me began to wither.they aged and aged and aged, until they all withered into dust. At the same time, time slowed around them, so it happened in a split second. ¡°HAHA, TAKE THAT!¡± I yelled, then promptly keeled over and turned to dust.
YOU ARE DEAD
Age of death is a skill that you only get when you master time magic mastery, fast forward, and slow down. It is the pinnacle of time magic. At least, system assist based time magic. What it does s speeds up time within every piece of matter, and slows time down around it, instantly turning everything to dust. The only thing is the cost. If you have anything less than full mana and full health, it drains everything from you and you die. if you have full mana and health, you are left with 1 hitpoint. Stepping on a rock could kill you. If you die from your own age of death, you lose ten levels, a level in each skill and proficiency, and have 95% chance to drop your best item. My luck wasn¡¯t very good. As I fell, the staff of infinity, my only weapon, fell with me. Out of my inventory. A day later, a random level 20 mage came, saw something shiny, and picked it up. ¡°Huh¡± Said nooblet. ¡°this thing looks shiny. Since I can¡¯t identify it, it¡¯s probably worthless though. Maybe I could get a few copper for selling it." Flashback end And that¡¯s why roger wanted them to lessen the penalties of age of death. That is also why they refused every single time. ¡°anyway, I want you to delete the weapons in my possession.¡± *sigh* ¡°Fine.¡± ¡°Oh, and also, does that mean I can issue a quest to retrieve the staff of infinity?¡± ¡°Yes, there would have to be a hellova reward though.¡± ¡°Still, food for thought. Is that it? Is there any more ways you want to screw me over? ¡°Well¡¡± ¡°Oh come on.¡± ¡°Haha, no, that¡¯s all. Pleasure doing business with you Roger Skye.¡± ¡°You too, butthead.¡± ¡°Aww, come on roger, you know you¡±*click* *sigh* ¡®Well this is just great.¡¯ A/N Well, first fight scene, probably bad, but who knows? Advice needed, thanks! Also, hopefullly the real chapters will be longer. Just fyi, i know most of my 5 readers think he was screwed over. Well, he was. But only for now. There are alot of hidden benefits, and i mean ALOT that he hasnt discovered yet to being an npc. Spoiler : He is not just disguised as an npc, he is REGISTERED as an npc. Think of what they can do in other vrmmo.stories when they are super advanced. There is also a reason why his exp penalty reduction was so low, and it has to do with becoming an npc. also, how do I write in the chapter space, when I click on it, I cant write on it so I have to click source and that white box comes up on the place where you write, then I copy paste there and it changes its color. how to fix? yeah im a noob at computers. I can only post it regularly after I post it in the changed coler then edit it, then re copy paste it. also, why am I now a musical penguin? I liked cookie seeker lol Chapter 1- Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey Chapter 1-wibbly wobbly timey wimey 1 week later After a week, Roger got an email, telling him that his account had finally been reactivated. During that week, Roger stocked up on frozen and canned food, as he was expecting to play the game for an extremely long time without rest. He had to train his stats. Roger waited until nighttime so his body could res while in the capsule. When it became dark, Roger opened the capsule, lay down, closed it, and closed his eyes.

¡®damn, I forgot how bad the time mage was at the start. I can either have 16 seconds of one spell active or 8 seconds of both spells active, this just being against a single opponent. I better go find a quiet place to meditate and increase my wisdom.¡¯ As Roger stepped forward, he realized why it was so dark. ¡°DAAAMMMMMNIIIII*SPLAT*¡±
YOU ARE DEAD
When he was de-leveled, they didn¡¯t reset him to his spawn point! He was still in the [Abyss of death], and he just walked over the edge! Seriously, how to linebreak? Roger stepped out of the capsule, mumbling to himself. ¡°Oh, you think it¡¯s funny, don¡¯t you, assholes. No one is lazy enough to forget to reset me to my starter town. That had to be on purpose. Well, at least I didn¡¯t lose any levels. But I¡¯m locked out for 24 hours¡±. 1 Day Later Roger logged back in to Immortality Online, after a whole wasted three days in game time. As soon as he logged on, he realized that his satiety was almost gone. All he had was 20 moldy bread and a canteen of water which apparently could hold 20 liters. After wasting one of his precious bread, Roger started to move. Where to, you ask? The library, of course. He needed a quiet place to meditate and get the feel for the mana manipulation system. Although he was a veteran at his class, the mana manipulation was new to him. Since he could finally manipulate mana, he could also make the skill meditate, which increased mana regen by 50%. In this game, mana regeneration was extremely simple. It was wisdom/10. His 40 wisdom would give him 4 mana/sec, and meditating would give him 6. Meditating for long periods of time, and exercising control of the mana around you, increases intelligence and wisdom. Reading also increases those stats, but is much slower Roger finally got to the Library, a medium sized building. ¡°hello, I would like to have a private room¡± Roger said. 1 ¡°Ten copper.¡± The librarian mumbled. ¡°What? I only have 50 copper, I thought this was a place for learning, yet you charge for private rooms?¡± ¡°Look bud, we only have 3 private rooms. Unless you are willing to pay, you sit on a bench like everyone else.¡± Roger sighed, and tossed the man ten copper, who in turn tossed him a key, and pointed him in the right direction. On the way, Roger gathered as many books on mana manipulation as he could. Roger¡¯s plan to train his wisdom and intelligence was to manipulate mana around him until he ran out, and then read books to learn about it and also gain intelligence and wisdom. He will grind like this for three weeks, while eating the cheapest food he can get his hands on. After three weeks of getting familiar with mana manipulation, he will try to create an attack spell with time magic. Roger sat down on the couch in the private room. It wasn¡¯t very comfortable, but it beats sitting on a bench outside. He took a meditative position, closed his eyes, and regulated his breathing. The time mage gradually felt a warmth coursing through him. He tried to push the warmth out, spread it as thinly as he could, and drag the world¡¯s mana into him
Congratulations! You have learned Mana manipulation!

Now that roger had the skill, it was much easier to manipulate mana. Since he had a class that gave bonuses to intelligence and wisdom, as a level 1, he had the same int and wis that a level 7 had, because people don¡¯t get a class until level 10. People also do not get the extra five class stat points until they get a class, which means Roger gets an extra 50 stat points to either wisdom or intelligence. Roger continued to manipulate, expel, and absorb mana for a whole week. While he was doing this, he periodically logged off to eat. He didn¡¯t have to sleep, because meditating also rests and organizes your mind and he can take much more mental strain than normal people, whilst his body was resting by itself. After a week, Roger decided to stop practicing his magic to look at his stats and practice his skills.

Now that Roger had more mana, control, and mana regen, he decided to go outside and grind his skills. Now that he had enough mana, he could afford the cost of his spells in combat. LLLLLLLLLIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEBBBBBBRRRREEEEEAAAAAAKKKKKKK Roger stepped outside of the city for the first time with his de-leveled character. Well, not counting the spawn he had. He was still kind of mad about that. Roger decided to devote the day to grinding his combat skills. He still had his skills at level 1, which decreased or increased time flow by 5%. In real battles, this would be nowhere near enough. So, he set off to go bully bunnies, foxes, and other small woodland creatures. The way Roger was going to train his skills was to agro as many bunnies as he could, and use slow down on all of them, while using speed up on himself. Slow down would level much faster than speed up, but he wouldn¡¯t slow down slow down¡¯s leveling speed just to make it even. Roger cast fast forward on himself and frowned at how little it affected him. At basic 1, it really almost wasn¡¯t worth using. At later levels, however, it¡¯s power went up much faster than the mana cost. Coupled with time magic mastery, which he hasn¡¯t obtained yet, and it would be one of the best spells. Once he cast fast forward, he ran through the beginner¡¯s field, to the forest. As he went, he heard people jeering at him. ¡°Poor noob, he must be level 1, going to the forest in beginner¡¯s clothes.¡± ¡°I know, right? He must not have done any research on the game.¡± He ignored all of the idiots gawking and continued on. When he got to the edge of the forest, he stopped. Contrary to the idiot¡¯s thinking, Roger knew everything about the starter area. The game had been out for two years, after all. He wanted to agro bunnies, from the grasslands, and the occasional fox, from the forest. He wouldn¡¯t dare to go into the forest with the wolves and two tailed foxes at his level. Once he got to the edge, he walked up to a bunny, and punched it. The bunny immediately bit him for 7 damage. ¡°Shit¡±, he said. ¡°I forgot I had no physical stats.¡± Immediately, he cast slow down on the bunny, and started wailing on it. Finally, it died, dropping a bruised rabbit pelt and a single copper. After stopping fast forward, he meditated to regain lost mana, re-casted it, and continued to agro bunnies. This time, he aggroed three or more, cast slow down on all of them, and dodged and weaved, while occasionally punching or kicking. He tried to infuse mana into his body, but he almost died from it exploding. It seemed like he needed MUCH more intelligence for him to be able to do that. After killing rabbits and the occasional fox for the day, Roger went back to the library to check his status messages.

Roger logged off and went to sleep for the first time in 48 hours. I wish I wasn¡¯t a noob at writing. BTW, linebreak Roger, after a good night¡¯s(Day¡¯s?) sleep, logged on to Immortality Online. He then proceeded to do what he had been doing before he decided to bully small animals. First, he sold his pelts, gaining 3 silver and 14 copper. He then bought a silver¡¯s worth of bread. Bread is 10 copper. 100 Copper=1 silver, and 100 silver=1 gold. He bought ten bread to restore his dwindling supply, paid the librarian for another private room, sat down, and started to meditate. Like this, two weeks passed. Every once in a while, The time mage logged off to eat, sleep, take a shower, and use the bathroom. Once he was done meditating, his stats and skills looked like this.

With these stats, Roger felt ready to try to make an offensive spell. LLLLLIIIIIIIIIIINNNEEEEEEEEEEEBBBBRRRRREEAAAKKK Roger started meditating. He pushed almost all of his mana out, as well as the amount that was coming from regeneration. He delved deep, and grasped the flow of time, with every particle of air saturated with mana. He slowly, steadily, dragged all of the flowing condensed time energy to his hand, and compacted it into a ball. It was gold, translucent and opaque at the same time. It looked like, well, a ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey¡ stuff. It felt weird, almost like it was¡ EATING HIS HAND! Immediately, Roger took control of his mana and ripped the ball apart, trying to destroy it before it killed him.
