Testing, testing, one, two. Can you hear me way in the back? good, now, I have something to say." says the Eternity Mirror''s Guild leader, Hardstijorinn, as he tests the magic microphone, as it''s called. The crowd stiffens, shocked. they know without even hearing the news that it will be bad. Given that Eternity Mirror is the strongest guild in Arcania Online, they can do pretty much whatever they want, so long as the player code of conduct doesn''t get so violated as to make the devs. step in. "Starting tomorrow morning, at 7:30 sharp, we will start recruiting people for our next expedition!" Hardstijorinn say, a twinkle in his eye as he watches the crowd silently moan. He looks at the crowd, makes a show of acting all apologetic, and says "any complaints can be delivered to our guild office between 10:00 PM and 3:00 AM on the third Sunday of each month." ''And any complainers will be executed and then repeat killed to level one'' I thought. Eternity Mirror required cannon fodder so the elites could kill the boss and not even get their hands dirty. any who objected where a nuisance, and had to be dealt with. preferably in as public a manner as possible. But that would change tonight. I duck down into an alley. No need to even use an illusion, as no one notices a halfling in beginner clothes, even the muggers. They are after the rich, not the weak. thumbing a special illusion I prepared beforehand, I switch on a 3d-comunicater just in time to see Kurnonos''s face take on a really excited expression. I knew what he was going to say before he even opened his mouth. Once he took notice of me, he stopped, startled, for a second, then got an ear-to ear grin, and chirped at me "We have permission to use the stage 2 penalty on the elite of Eternity Mirror, an''t that going to be fun?" "Yes, yes, it''ll be fun, but we''ll have to move in tonight. further developments have been made." I muttered, crossed at his happy-go lucky attitude.< He would sing Happy, by Pharrel Williams, to the background music of the world ending>. He leaned in close, like a person asking a close question "what further developments? Hard got a new sword?" I sighed. Hard was Kurnonos''s name for the leader of eternity mirror, and it was a bad one at that. "No, Hardstijorinn has not gotten a new sword, he has instead started a citywide draft. both Players and NPCs" Kurnonos suddenly gets really quiet, which I know means he is either thinking, pissed off, or very, VERY, VERY, angry. Slowly, with the dead calm of a blizzard, he says, "It is settled then. The wild hunt gathers tonight. All wolves shall run, along with the master." I started to say "Kurnonos, do you really think that such a show of force is-" but he cut me off with an explosion of rage. "Of course it''s neciccary, they crossed the point of no return!!" he shouts, eyes burning holes through my body. just to be safe (you never know, he has burned a hole through a person once before just by looking at them), I pull a 3-inch thick titanium plate out of my inventory, and position it in front of me before continuing. "So, where shall we meet?" Kurnonos, startled by such a simple question, thinks for a minute, then replies, "well, how about the Krostvian woods?" I bring up a map of the area. the Krostvian forest is about 100m from the city walls. should be about right. "That sounds good, spread the word to all the others and I''ll meet you there." I call to Kurnonos as I shut the 3d comunicator, severing the contact. ____________________________________________________________________________ At night, in the Krostvian Forest. Kurnonos looks around, nods a couple times, and then says, "good, we''re all here" Dauda, our resident assassin, drops from the tree she was perched in, and calls out, "" "It is impossible to sneak up on me, for the record, because..." Stenfa, our summoner interrupts kurnonos with a load of sarcasm deleverd to the face. "" she drones, "". Kurnonos takes the insult in stride, and, ignoring previously stated sarcasm, maps out a battle plan for the group in ten words. "Find stuff, kill the elites, and leave Hard to me." "alright, let''s do this peeps! Lerooooooooooooyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" our gnome, who, by the way, looks more like a cross between a juggernaut, a dwarf, and superman than anything else. a perfect inverted triangle in the for a torso, about three feet tall, and coated in a three-inch thick coat of titanium. Stenfa sighs, blonde hair rippling as she shakes her head. "that idiot" she complains. "we haven''t started the hunt yet." Kurnonos looks at stenfa, then at as I will call him, the lifts his head to the sky and lets loose a single wolf howl. the howl echoes over a long distance before fading from hearing range. The hunt has begun. I run towards Todos city, casting illusions on my mates to protect them as they rush. all except Leroy. he simply runs through a hail of armageddon. Arrows bounce off his armor, fireballs and lightning bolts are suppressed by his slipstream, and hexes simply dissapate against a golden shield that he summons. he rams the wall at mark 1, crashes through the wall, collapses a 50 meter wide section of it, and knocks himself out. With out of action, Tonlist and Kappi, our two best buffers, step to the frontlines. Tonlist mutters something under her breath, while Kappi roars at the members of Eternity Mirror, causing them to flinch. Tonlist finishes her chant, and, as the rythmic clash of sword on shield begins, starts talking really fast, as if tryin to be an auctioneer. but the chant is anything but a call for wares, it is her battle chant, and the song she sings is one of death. Support the creativity of authors by visiting Royal Road for this novel and more. Bone-bone-bone-bone, bone, bone, bone, bone, bone As she says this she breaks nine different bones in a single persons body, instantly killing him. she draws a rapier and continues: Now tell me what ya gonna do when there ain''t nowhere to run. When judgement comes for you When judgement comes for you. She proceeds to teleport in front of two fleeing people, and slice them in half. she then teleports behind a skulking assassin, and continues: Now tell me what ya gonna do when it ain''t nowhere to hide. When judgement comes for you, cause it''s gonna come for you. Cutting the assassin''s throat, she proceeds to teleport to the center of the breach, and teleport several of our members in, continuing: Now let''s bring it all for Wally, Easy-E, Uncle Charlie, Little Boo-Boo, god''s got him. And I''m gonna miss everybody. And so on, teleporting in our guildmates, teleporting all over the place, and generally causing mass chaos. I shift my focus over the battlefield, looking for a spot that I am needed at. but there is none. Kappi is leading Jordin and Framsyni into battle with a squad of knights, Saleldur, Sattamala, and Skemdarvargur are engaging the mages in a range battle, ducking from a stray energy bolt, I turn and see that Iskoma has a blizzard surrounding him, occupying three squads of pyromancers. has recovered and is running around bull rushing people onto his spear. A scream pierces the night air. Eldingar, writhes on the ground, storm energy, his very life essence, streaming out of a hole on his right sholider. ''Crud, a sniper!'' I think while Truarlega starts performing a ritual of strengthening, designed to heal mortal wounds,, I quickly cast illusions to make it so that all of my guildmates appear to be five feet to the left of where they actually are. Eydimork turns a half pace, draws an arrow the size of a ballista bolt, and draws the ballista that he uses as a bow. with pinpoint accuracy, he shoots the sniper, hiding in the crook of a roof, straight through the head. The fight continues for half a minute before the remaining members of the wall-guard, (7,000 out of 20,000 alive) run towards the center of the city, leaving the assassins and snipers to catch us in the maze of back alleys and side streets. this is where tactics come in. We use all the resources avalible to scan for hostiles, and then go down the route with the most. ''This is fun'' I thought as I wiped my short sword clean after yet annother fight. this was the final fight before the keep. From what our diviners(actually we have several different diviners for warfare: Framsyni, who can see most possibilities of the future, Calderero, who can scan everything with his drones, Timiskera, who can see chances of things happening based on actions, Haltivafi, who can read minds, and Forradamadur, who can use his to foresee coming attacks.) have told us, there are about 15,000 members of Eternity Mirror left in a half-mile area. All surrounded by a meter-thick wall of stone. magically reinforced, treated to withstand dragonfire, easily passable for all of us. runs through the wall, followed by most of the melee and both of the other tanks. Dauda and I jump over the wall, which was about five meters high. Kurnonos simply blasts down the gate.(which was treated with enough spells to make it stronger than the walls by about twice as much.) As Kurnonos walks through the enemy, his eyes start burning holes in people''s eyes, then their faces, then their chests. ''ah, $^#(, he started shooting lasers again.'' I thought to myself. the one problem with Kurnonos being in is that he has to cool off, which usually takes a mini-nuke size explosion. he ends the slaughter by summoning wolves of pure flame to antihilate the remaining players.(about 1,000 left) the wolves pass over about half, revealing them to be conscripts, and the other half is antihilated utterly. There is one tiny sliver of movement, though. It appears that (guild leader of Eternity Mirror, the strong*ahem* second-strongest guild in Arcania Online. Kurnonos has already noticed him though. Kurnonos steadly walks over to , picks him up by the coller of his shirt, and says a couple words to him. when he finishes, pales, and then tries to break Kurnonos'' grip. Kurnonos smiles, and draws the third blade, Malankir(there are three blades that Kurnonos uses. the first destroys the body(death), the second destroys the spirit(character reset) and the third destroys the soul(character deletion.) "Any last words in this world?" "Gah, #^#( you, you #!^(#!!!!!!!!!!!!" "then die." With a single clean slice, Kurnonos cut from head to toe, transforming his body into a pile of pixels that spread with an imaginary wind and disappeared. Kurnonos scratched some words on the cobblestones of the keep, turned, and made to leave. almost as an afterthought, he sliced the head of the reporter who was watching from the shadows with serdingal, the first blade. I sighed, and rubbed my eyes. Life was going to be a lot harder now. ____________________________________________________________________________ Author''s corner: Prolouge done!!!!!!!!!!!!! this covers the climax of the story, and starting with chapter one, I will begin explaining how the characters work, fleshing them out, and all that. but I really wanted a giant mass murder of the guilty, so here! Oh, PS: if anyone wonders, the lines that appear in this chapter belong to "Tha Crossroads" by bone thugs n harmony. you should check it out :) Until next chapter. Prolouge #2: As the message spreads with the wind. Author''s corner: alright, I lied. I''m doing a chapter based on the public reaction to the broadcast of what the Wild Hunt did. PS: A few other people will factor into this setup, some very significantly. references to World of Warcraft and several other places are made in this chapter. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ The broadcast started out same as always. Eternity Mirror doing whatever the hell they wanted, and the devs. not giving a damn about what happened, despite the fact that new players had stopped playing half the avalible races because of Eternity Mirror''s new policies. Then, the trouble started. A messenger ran up to the reporter as he was finishing a conversation with the leader of the second-most powerful guild, Sons of Lothar to report something. The reporter''s face grew completely incredulous as the messenger spoke, then abruptly laughed. When she had finished laughing, she, still supressing chuckles of mirth, turned to face the audience, and said. "It appears that a small guild has declared war on eternity mirror." The news shocked the world. No guild, no matter how big, would think of taking on eternity mirror alone. they would pull in whatever alliances they could, even nine of the top ten gulids would''n dare march to war without all other guilds riding with them. inter-guild politics(Eternity Mirror had effectivly bought out the third most and fifth most powerful guilds) kept the major guilds from attacking. The idea that one guild, with now connections whatsoever, would fight Eternity Mirror by itself, was insane. While the fight, or rather slaughter, as it was to be called, was to be broadcasted that night, everyone knew the outcome. Eternity Mirror would win, and then repeat kill the transgressors until they stopped playing. Only thirty players, and three hundred and fifty people worldwide knew the true outcome of the fight. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ The broadcast started at 7:00, PM, at Eastern Standard Time. Nothing happened for about five minutes, until a loud roar shook the earth. This roar was followed by a howl, and then a gnome bursting from the trees. Three and a half feet tall, body built like superman, and coated in some form of steel, the gnome charged through all forms of attacks. Armor-penetraiting arrows used for Piercing Shots clattered against the armor, meteors burned up and faded into the gnome''s slipstream, and hexes so vile, the air turned black, dissapated against a hemisphere of golden energy surrounding the gnome. The gnome hit the wall at mach 1, and crumbled in a section of the wall fifty feet wide and ten feet thick. when the dust cleared, two more figures could be seen standing at the breach. one was a leonin, a man with the head of a lion, clad in simple leather armor. He let loose a roar that shook heaven and earth, then charged the massed warriors waiting beyond the rubble. The other figure, a Dryad in simple clothing, started singing, then started killing people, then started teleporting, the started summoning allies. the first was a troll with shields the size of cars, then a dragonkin(different from draconian, as dragonkin look like human dragons, as opposed to draconians, which are humans gifted with draconic magic) clad in ice-blue plate. Many more warriors joined the fray as the fight went on. A swordsman clad in beginer''s clothes ded half-red, half-black. A human paladin, an orcish berserker, and many others. after half a minute, the order to retreat was given, and Eternity mirror fell back. then, all thirty members of this new guild chose a different path, and walked seperately towards the center of the city, the castle. whenever an assassin or some other sneaky character tried to take down one of the figures, they were killed without remorse. the final battle in the castle grounds was terrifying, to say the least. Only one of the figures took part in the battle, though all thirty were present. A man with the horns of a deer walked through the ranks of Eternity Mirror, then started killing people without touching them, or even doing anythng. the last thousand members of a guild that once had two million members was wiped out by wolves with tounges of green flame summoned by the man with horns. The reporter, who had managed to cover half of the guild during all the footage, then started moving closer, as the horned one picked up Harstijorinn. the folowing diolouge was picked up as the horned one held Hardstijorinn at arm''s length. Did you know this story is from Royal Road? Read the official version for free and support the author. Horned one: "So now, after all your warriors, all your armies, all your defenses, have crumbled, I find one not even worthy of the title of "one-hundreth most powerful player in Arcania Onine" Hardstijorinn: "You will die! I will kill you and claim the title of strongest player!" Horned one: "No, you will not. You will vanish from this world." The horned one drew a sword as Hardstijorinn kicked at him in a futile attempt to escape. "You have been the bane of this world, a pox upon the land. now, I will remove you as a docter would a tumor." Whispered the horned one in Hardstijorinn''s ear, then, in a louder voice, called "Any last words?" Hardstijorinn: "Gah! #^&# you, %@&#!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Horned one: "then die." The Horned One sliced the head off of Hardstijorinn, then threw the body out to the wind. As the wind picked up, Hardstijorinn''s body turned into a pixelated image before fading from existence. The Horned One Turned, looked Straight at the reporter, who was hiding in a shadow, then crossed the gap in three quick bounds, and killed her with brutail casualness. Thus ended the Broadcast. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ The forums exploded with discussions about the new guild, labeled by many as "The Mirror Breakers". Most were devoted to the subject of how they got so powerful ThatRandomWierdo: I think that they hacked the game. Simple as that. Crazyfox: You''re forgetting that the game is hack-proof. ThatRandomWierdo: Maybe it''s not, but the devs just want us to think that. Crazyfox: You just don''t understand, and are looking for answers where none can be found. I don''t need to talk with you. Crazyfox leaves chat. Most forums were like this for the next two weeks. Then, suprising everybody, Fox News announced that they would be interviewing one of the members of The Mirror Breakers. The backlash was astounding. Viewing rates soared at 5:00 Pm EST on 9/20/47. the interview started, and with the self-same reporter who recorded the broadcast, a man of about thirty-three, 6'' 2", and built like a rock walked in. The man introduced himself as Iskoma, as that was his name in-game. Once he was situated, the reporter started asking questions. Reporter: "So, we are told that you are a member of the Mirror-Breakers guild. Is that true?" Iskoma: "well, First off, I don''t know where the name comes from. The true name is The Wild Hunt, and yes." Reporter: "So, why did you attack Eternity Mirror?" Iskoma: "Well, we were angry at the new draft, and also we felt that they needed to go anyway. Kurnonos just went off the deep end once he heard about the draft. Reporter: "Kurnonos? Who is that?" Iskoma: "Kurnonos is our guild leader, and the most powerful of all of us. He Killed Hardstijorinn at the end." Reporter: "Oh, so he tells you what to do." Iskoma: "More like sets out guidelines and tells us to have fun."*snorts* "He has zero leadership skills." Rporter; "You mentioned guidelines. WWhat are they?" Iskoma: "well, the first one is to come when he calls a hunt. that is one, then there''s no taking potshots at guilds for fun. No killing random people. No leaveling random small villages, and No summoning ice ages at the height of summer." Reporter: "So basically, don''t do anything stupid" Iskoma: "yes" Reporter: I know that this is intrusive, but, which member of the guild are you?" Iskoma: "Ha Ha Ha HA Ha!" He threw back his head and laughed. "I''ll tell you, not that it''ll be much use for you. I''m the dragonkin. The guy who summons ice ages." Reporter: "So, you''re telling me that you can summon ice ages?" Iskoma: "Yes." Iskoma glances down at a watch, then says "gotta go. Kurnonos said that I could only talk for ten minutes, or he''d throw me in a volcano with a death binding on me." Reporter: "Death Binding?" Iskoma: "Not now, talk with me in-game if you have questions." And with that, Iskoma ran out of the studio, slamming the door behind him. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Author''s corner: please tell me if you like this chapter, and put a full review out on my story. basic info on characters in The Wild Hunt author''s corner: hey guys, just wanted to say that I am going to scrap the backstory idea, maybe I''ll explore some links or flashbacks later, but no chapters will be devoted to the past. on annother note, here is a general overview of the class, race, supertype of race(very important), and counter within the wild hunt.(counter being the guy who will come out on top when the two go head-to-head.
