《A Slice Of Life Of Broken Man》 Chapter 1 I was transported to another world. This world is weird. I can see my own status like a game. Level 1. Race human. Str, agi, and dex are 10. What the hell is this? But what is more important than that... Where is this place? A forest? I was on the way to high school just now. My hand phone... no signal. Fuck. I closed my eyes and tried to listen the sound of forest. Bird chirping... Many kinds of chirping? Different bird species I guess. Leaves rustle. I opened my eyes. Tall trees everywhere... Maybe they are 6-7 stories tall... This is creepy... *Sound of branches breaking* "What is that!?" I turned my back. Nothing there... Fuck. This is pretty much scary... Okay, let''s calm down a bit. No signal... Okay that means this phone is out of option. Sun! Hmm... It''s day... So that way is west? Alright... Let''s go to west and hope I''ll be out of woods. Sigh... I really hope to find another person here. "There!" A person! I held out my hand and... What is that person doing? That stance... It can''t be! He is shooting arrow at me! Fuck! I hide behind tree. He really shot at me! "What the hell are you doing, man?" He doesn''t speak English? I ran! Opposite direction to the east! Zigzag-ing. I ran until I was very exhausted. However... I got shot on my shoulder when I was taking a break! It hurts! I''m scared! I cried! I ran like hell. Father, mother... what is happening? It can''t be... I''m dying because of this, right? Dying? No, I don''t want to die. I ran and I ran again. No matter if my legs wanted to collapse. I must escape! ROAR!! What?! A Bear?! God, this is too crazy. I swiped tears that is getting in my eyes. I just have to run! 1 hour later... The woods is getting denser... I am getting dizzy. "Lost... too much... blood?" I sat behind a tree. I held arrow that is lodged in my shoulder and broke its shaft. It hurts... very much. I removed my blood soaked shirt carefully. Shall I pluck the arrow out? Might as well try... I am dying anyway... The author''s narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.Memories of my father, mother, little brother, and little sister, cousins, classmates, best friends, and my crush flashed up for a moment. "This is too absurd. What did I ever do, God? Why does this have to happen to me?" I gritted my teeth. Fuck this! Fuck everything! I pluck the arrow''s shaft out! But... The arrow head is stuck on my wound! "..." I want to cry... "Am I going to die? Maybe, hahaha." "Fuck that archer and that bear. Now that I think about it... nothing is following me?" I tried to listen any sound of footsteps. Nothing. Just sound of bird chirping and leaves rustling. "Hmm, could it be they are battling?" "That archer and that bear, if they are killing each other, I wonder who will win." I just hope neither of them will sneak up and attack me. The wind is so nice... My body is getting colder. My eyelids are getting heavy. Ah. That was dangerous. I was almost dead. I opened my eyes and struggled to get up. Still no sound of battle. The forest is so peaceful. But... what is this? My legs are moving on its own. Its like, there is something calling to me. Back at the place where I last saw the archer and the bear. Some claw marks on few trees. And their bodies. No, it was more appropriate to say, they were both almost dead. That archer was lying down on the ground and coughing up blood. "Y-you..." He tried talking to me. Something starts up yelling in my heart. I hate this man to the bone. How dare he! After he tried to get my life! Why is he still not dead! I saw a dagger not far from him, around 1 feet on his side. I picked it up. "Wa-wait, what are y-" I stepped on his neck. I kicked it over and over again. He was still alive. At this moment. I knelt beside him, and sliced his throat. Now he is dead. Those dead eyes... Those liters of blood. This disgusting smell... I looked to behind me. The bear was still breathing. Its eyes were gazing on me. It tried to growl. I stabbed its eyes, its ears, many times until it was dead. My breath was rough. I walked to a tree not far from them and sat there. My hands were bloody. So were my stomach, chest and neck. There were some blood on my face. My first time killing a man and a bear. I never imagined I would have done that. Chapter 2 Diary Of Broken Man I know that being weak is a sin Because the way the world works is that the strong devours the weak Kindness and all good qualities in men bring joys and happiness in life However in happiness there was also sorrow Those two are like the opposite side of a coin I guess without knowing sorrow, you can never appreciate happiness So what does men living for? I guess, it was to experience emotion The older you get, the more emotions you experienced Until one day your heart no longer feel anything, that is when you die on the inside Although that way to die is not the worst way to die But everyone wants to die with a smile and watching their loved ones face filled with happiness Yes. That is the best way to die. The Broken Old Man Emotion, in everyday speech, is any relatively brief conscious experience characterized by intense mental activity and a high level of pleasure or displeasure. Michel Cabanac I was lying on the ground of lush forest and trees. The sky was filled with clouds and the sun was hiding behind it. Wind occasionally moves around leaves and branch. Insects made noisy sound, some near and some far. Bird chirped and flied between trees. The forest was lively. I got up. This was my second day in the forest. I rubbed off dirt on my arms and clothes. Soil and dry leaves still dirtied my head. My body smelled sour and sticky as I didn¡¯t take bath yesterday. It affected my noise and felt unpleasant. Now I could appreciate how blissful it was to have shower in the morning. Hmm? My body tensed up as I heard broken branch on my back. I put my ears and eyes in heightened sense, and my legs were ready to run away at the first sign of danger. One thing I learned in this forest was to always run whenever my heart jumped to the throat and I felt danger. I turned to my back and I saw¡ a squirrel. ¡°Sigh, that almost put me into panicked mode. Oops, I can never get panicked here again. Be calm, be calm.¡± I shook my head and let out big volume of air my lungs. I took deep breath few times. The squirrel was still there, around 8 feet away from me. The squirrel reacted when my hand moved to reach bow and it jumped away. ¡°Darn, food. Do you really have to run away?¡± I put down my bow. The forest was vibrant with lives. There were many living beings, like birds, insects, squirrels and small animals. Well, those were what I saw. I also had seen some traces of four legged animals, maybe a deer or a boar. I hoped it was either of them, my heart really couldn¡¯t take if it was a wolf, jaguar, or something else that could devour me. It was not a bear though, the footprint¡¯s size was smaller than a bear¡¯s. I sat my butt down on a big tree root after checking out there was no insects nesting around it. Yesterday I sat around without looking at it properly and I sat on some... centipedes and other kinds of disgusting-looking bugs nest. I looked at my battered middle-school uniform, there were some holes and dry blood on it. Oh, correction, lots of dry bloods on it. The trees in this forest looked more, I didn¡¯t know how to describe it. More natural? More forestry? I didn¡¯t know. I¡¯ve never been in a forest before. I meant I was just a normal middle-school student. I played soccer and learnt taekwondo. But I¡¯ve never camped before. Sure, the town I lived in had some park and many trees, but none of them were comparable to these forest¡¯s trees. What kind of trees were these? What kind of forest I¡¯d been warped to? How to get out from here? I didn¡¯t have the answer for any of that. All I knew was that these trees were tall. So tall that I didn¡¯t even want to try climbing it. The tree barks were covered in pale green moss. The width were many times bigger than when I pull out my arms, maybe the diameter was twice or thrice my arms. I watched around again. From the front to sides and my back. I did this every five minutes or so. Every time I did this I hoped there were no movements or something moving out of place. If there was any, I would gulp down my saliva and bolted to run away. Leaves was blown by wind and some insects were moving beneath rotten leaves and branches on ground. After I made sure there were no movements, I leaned back to tree bark. No movements. Good! I pulled out my school bag which I recovered after losing it when I ran yesterday. I laughed a little recalling how lucky I was to be able to recover it. I took out a book and made a diary out of it. Originally, it was my notebook for history class but I never liked history anyway. Either way, it was the notebook with most unwritten-yet pages, so I had no regrets making it a journal. The cover was a bit dirty. There was my name on it. I smiled. Although I never liked history class it made me remember my time at school. I shook my head. The pen on my hand moved as I wrote these. The first page of the diary. 10 January 20xx. Three days from now, it should be my birthday. I woke up from my bed when my mother woke me at 5 am. She was such a hassle, but a good mom never the less. I took a shower in the bathroom. The water was cold. I remembered I shampooed my hair and scrubbed my body with soap. My family consist of five people. My mother, a 30-something housewife has long black hair, maybe long enough to reach her waist. She had a mole on her chin. The breakfast she made was the usual bread filled with chocolate sprinkles and butter. There was also chocolate milk she prepared on the table. Father probably already ate breakfast. He was always woke up earlier than me, because he drove my younger brother and sister to school every day. My father was a little bald on the center of his head, and his stomach was a little bulging out because he was fat. But never the less, he was a good and gentle figure of a father. Now that I think about it, I never said I loved him, did I? The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation. My younger brother was still in grade school, and my younger sister is even younger and still in preschool. Sometimes my younger brother and I wrestled because of stupid things. We ended up getting yelled by mother though and finally we apologized to each other. There was one time my younger sister accidentally locked herself in my parents¡¯ bedroom. There was only me and my mother at that time in the house, and my mother panicked. But now that I think about I never know what things my mother like. What is each of the family members likes and dislikes, hobby, and aspiration for the future. Even until now, I don¡¯t even know what my father¡¯s job actually is. I miss them. I really miss them. Note: Never forget. One day, I will get back to my home. With my family in it. Survive and do whatever it takes to get back to this world. PS: Promise to myself: When I get home, I will say I love you to everyone. ¡°Mother, father, I miss you. Please save me.¡± Atraf Adnan Son, Big brother, and Middle-school Student I smiled as I read this page. There were some tears fell as I wrote the page. This page meant so much to me. And this journal will collect my emotions, my experience, thoughts and many other things as I embark on journey in this world. Until the day I come back to my family and my home. Without this page maybe one day, I might forget my own identity. But I didn¡¯t want that. I wanted to always be able to remember who I am. I closed my eyes. My mind was so numbed and I felt my head pulsing because of constant alert on surrounding. Dry and cold sweats around my body. My eyes were getting moist. I almost cried again. Recalling the events that happened yesterday, my face went white as snow. Yesterday, my breath was rough after I killed the bear and the archer. My heart was beating so fast and loud that I feared it almost burst. My mind was getting dizzy. My eyes went blurry. I felt like I closed my eyes for a second while it was actually more than a minute. Two bodies were in front of me. One was a human, the other was a bear. Both dead, because of me. I killed them. I didn¡¯t knew why, but I threw up. All my breakfast I had today was vomited. My hand, my legs and stomach all felt so weak. I wanted to sleep and woke up from this dream. This is a dream, right? Such question popped up in my mind. I shook my head, this pain I felt on my shoulder was not an illusion. My hand was shaking. I looked down and hugged my knees. For the first time in my life I felt fear so great I couldn¡¯t control my tears from falling. I cried, I wailed, I called my dad and mom, hoping they would come and find me. It was dusk. This was the longest cry I ever done. I was stopped from crying as I heard a branch being stepped on. My heart jumped. I sprung and ran to the archer¡¯s body. I picked his bag, his bow, quiver, and a dagger. After that I ran, I didn¡¯t think anything. All I did was just running. I felt scared thinking that there was something dangerous behind me. So all I did was just ran away. I jumped over dead trees, short cliff, and never stopped running. I was scared. I couldn¡¯t think. I didn¡¯t want to stop. I cried as I ran. Suddenly I saw my school bag on ground. I grabbed it quickly. It was at this moment I heard a roar. What kind of animal was that? Was it another bear? I ran again but these questions made my legs ran even faster. I didn¡¯t even think about zigzag-ing. I just ran towards the settling sun. As night approaches I was lying drop dead tired on the ground. My body couldn¡¯t even move if I wanted to. However I still felt like I should run. This forest was not safe. The sooner I got out the better. However it was getting dark. So dark, I couldn¡¯t even see my own shadow. My fear was at its climax. What should I do? I heard that forest was even more dangerous at night. ¡°Mommy, daddy¡¡± And then, light was out. Rotten leaves on ground was being swept away by cold wind. The sound of crickets were not as lively as it sounds during day. Was that bird or bat that flaps around the trees? The forest atmosphere was more menacing than ever. ¡°Aaa. Aaah.¡± I cried. My pants felt warm. I tried to get up. I looked left and right, and turned to my back. I couldn¡¯t tell direction where I was running from. I panicked. I held my head with my two hands. I felt like something can just suddenly showed up from the darkness and struck at me. I wanted to scream but also afraid that something would hear me from afar. This forest was a cursed place. I couldn¡¯t get any rest here. I needed to always be constantly aware of my surroundings. But¡ but¡ I couldn¡¯t think anymore. My mind just collapsed. I panicked. I leaned back against a tree. I cowered and hugged my legs. I cried in silence. Hoots of owl and cries of bats were torturing me. And then, I made a mistake as I put my hand on the ground. Out of the blue, something dropped on my head and another thing moving on my hand. I jumped straight to stand and quickly slapped it out of my hair. And then I saw it. It was a big-red-centipede! And on the ground was a cluster of crawling-many legged bugs. Out of all things that could scary me, it had to be this. I had phobia of centipede. My heart felt like it stopped. As soon as I saw it crawled on my hand, I fainted. Chapter 3 Just A Boar My hand closed the diary book I was writing. A pop sound could be heard. After putting it inside school bag, I tried to stretch my arms. But I only found that my left shoulder which was shot by an arrow yesterday felt very painful. I tried finding the arrow head with my right hand, but as soon as I touched it I moaned in pain. My body tensed up and my face grimed. I kicked my foot against the ground and took few deep breaths. That helped alleviate the pain a little. After a while, my head was clear again. This time I promised I wouldn''t touch my wound carelessly in the future. My right hand now moved to the bag that was looted from the archer''s body. Rather than a bag, it was better to call it a pouch. Since it was just animal skin that was tied up by thin rope. I opened it and looked inside. "What is this? Hmm, dry meat... jerky?" There were 9 pieces of dry meat inside. My hand picked one that was a bigger piece and put it into my mouth. I chewed it. The texture was rough. It tastes like meat but salty. It was also dry. Oh god, eating this jerky made me thirsty. I needed a drink. I closed the jerky pouch and checked up my school bag. My school bag was a frameless backpack that could hold enough books and water bottle inside. Hmm? I raised one of my eyebrow. I rechecked the content again. This time I opened my mouth and my mouth felt drier than ever. How could it be possible that I forget to put water bottle inside? I clenched my fist and kicked the ground three times before holding my head. ¡°This is bad. This is bad. What am I going to do? There is no water. I forgot to put the goddamn bottle. Why of all times, I forgot it two days ago?¡± I shook my head as this was just too unbelievable. I chewed my lips and sighed. Nothing I could do about it. If I forgot then that was it. If there was no bottle water then it wouldn¡¯t suddenly just appeared out of nowhere. Although I knew, it was just so frustrating. My throat was thirsty but I couldn¡¯t drink a gulp of water. At least when I was at home I never had to worry about water. No good, this was just me trying to ran away from reality. ¡°No, no, no. If I have no water I just have to find it, right? Think positive. Now, where can I find water here? I need to find a river or lake. Haha, yes, I just have to walk.¡± I tried to convince myself and shrugged my shoulder. After I tidied up everything I started walking towards west. The same direction I had been going since yesterday. The ground I walked on was uneven. There were many roots here and there. Sometimes, my shoes stepped on bugs and let out some squeaky crunching sound. My body was already sticky enough and smelled so bad. And some parts of my body, like my arms and back felt itchy. Was it bug bites? As if I hadn¡¯t been tortured enough. It couldn¡¯t be any worse than this. ¡°God. Why is it so hard just to find a river? I mean, how many days of walking I should spend to find water? This is just so crazy.¡± I growled and tensed up my neck a little. Sometimes I tripped over a root or uneven ground and fell because of it. It made me so angry that I face palmed my forehead many times. I spent 3 hours of walking before I heard that angelic music ringing in my ears and I jerked my head. ¡°Isn¡¯t that¡ sound of river?!¡± My lips opened upwards and I had tears in my eyes. I could feel the inside my mouth filled with saliva, asking for as much water I could drink. My face was flushed and I laughed without sound as I ran towards the sound. I could see it, the border of tree forest and riverbanks. ¡°Oh, water.¡± I never felt this way before about water. I guessed being tortured by thirst for a day could make anyone view water as gift of nature. My legs moved towards riverbanks and froze after I saw a certain creature. It was a black thing. It had mane like a horse along its spinal cords. Its body seemed like all of it was made out of muscle. Its legs were short but seemed strong enough to burst with power. On its mouth was two tusk that was bigger than any of its teeth and pointed outward its lips. It was a big black boar. What made it scary was that its size probably around my chest. I didn¡¯t move. I couldn¡¯t move. I just watched it drinking water from river. And then it did the last thing I hoped didn¡¯t happen, it looked at me. It grunted and postured its body towards me. It approached me and suddenly rushed in to ram me. I ran back towards the forest and without thinking I climbed one of the trees. I was so panicked that I dropped my school bag which had my diary in it. But I didn¡¯t even notice it until I was on a branch high enough to make me thought I was on 2nd floor from the ground. This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it It grunted. The monster which was probably even longer than my height was grunting at me and circled around the tree. I gripped my hand around the tree¡¯s bark. My instinct told me I definitely couldn¡¯t afford falling down from this tree. Or else¡ I was shaking, trembling, and freezing in the inside. My eyes opened wide towards that monster boar. It just kept circling as if it didn¡¯t want to let me go. Because it couldn¡¯t get me, it approached my school bag down there and ripped it off with its teeth. All my books and stuff came out and now was spread open on the ground. It continued to husk and try to get me. I hunched my shoulders, shrinking my body and told myself ¡°It will be okay, it cannot climb. Don¡¯t panic, don¡¯t be afraid. It will be okay.¡± I buried my head in my hands and bowed my head. Truth was, tears fell on my face. I was scared to death. My breathing was short and my mind was in shambles. This situation happened until probably 30 minutes. Maybe it was bored or had something better to do, the monster boar grunted for the last time and it went away. I was shocked, staring it with wide eyes and my mouth hanging open. I felt like I wanted to jump and dance around, but also displeased as I thought before boar was just a pig which I didn¡¯t have to fear. But now I felt confused, I tilted my head with narrowed eyes and rubbed my eyes. ¡°Is it really leaving?¡± Deep inside I felt suspicious. I couldn¡¯t believe what I am actually seeing. But then I pinched my nose. ¡°Focus, focus. I have to be focus.¡± The monster boar was out of my sight now. But my heart felt like it was thumping loudly. It was as if it was telling me there was danger if I climbed down the tree now. So I waited fifteen minutes and after it passed, I climbed down. From the bushes 10 meter from my side, the monster boar suddenly ran and tried to slam at me. I opened my eyes wide and I half-circled the tree and climbed up again. It almost got my foot. My heart beat like it jumped through the roof. I smacked my right palm to forehead. ¡°This boar is smart. It actually tricked me and almost got me.¡± I felt so stupid that I actually was almost trapped by it. The monster boar grunted again as if it was laughing and mocking me before it stayed beneath me and rested there. It was actually pretended to sleep there! ¡°Does it think I was so stupid to actually fall for its trap for a second time?¡± ¡°How much longer is it going to wait for me?¡± The sky was already red, and soon sun would settle. My thirst was already so bad that my mouth was very dry and I felt so light headed that sometimes I almost fell asleep. Well, actually I did fell asleep but the boar never moved. Did it plan to rest and wait there until morning? My eyes was already sunken and no more tears came out when I was crying. As if it couldn¡¯t be any worse, my body felt burning hot. I felt sick of fever. ¡°What a misfortune.¡± I said with toneless voice. I bit my lower lips and twisted my lips in half a smile. I was suddenly thrown out to an unknown forest, with no one rescuing me. Instead, a random was shooting arrow at me, and it hit me. And then I was almost eaten by a bear. As if that wasn¡¯t enough, I couldn¡¯t get any water to drink. Then, I think fate is mocking me. The river is just over there! But how can there is also a wild-monster-boar? And now I am trapped on this tree. And the boar is just resting beneath me. What a misfortune.¡± My expression was vacant. My shoulder was slumped. I frown a bit as my fate was now uncertain. I laughed a little. ¡°Isn¡¯t it already certain? If I go down, I¡¯ll be eaten by a monster. If I stayed up here, probably I will die of thirst and then fell and be eaten by that boar." My pupil contracted and my hand was clenched. "If I am going to die anyway, might as well take its life too. Well then, how do I kill it?¡±
