《New life for an immortal soul》 Prologue: Freedom All the gods from all across the realms gathered around at a particular spot to do a very specific thing. They were all being especially quiet and weary, not wanting to disturb their surroundings. As if they were afraid of disturbing something. The thing that made the thousands and thousands of gods afraid was a being unlike any other. This being currently had a humanoid appearance, but everyone knew what the being really looked like. The towering size and unimaginable power of the being caused nightmares for all the gods and they whimpered like little children would. This being was called ¡®The Overseer.¡¯ As the name suggests, the job of the being was to oversee over everything, making sure that everyone did their jobs correctly. It would watch over the gods, and if anyone of them did something wrong, it would appear out of nowhere and kill them before vanishing again. No god would be given a second chance, or a chance to explain or to give excuses¡ If you did something wrong, you die. It¡¯s as simple as that. It¡¯s said that billions of years ago a group of about 300 of the strongest gods in existence challenged the Overseer, tired of being unable to do as they wish. They were gods after all! Why were they subject to rules and regulations?! The battle, if it can even be called a battle, didn¡¯t even last a second. The Overseer simply looked at the gods and waved its hand, and all the 300 gods were wiped from existence, never to be seen again. Coming back to the present, we find the humanoid appearance of the being surrounded by thousands and thousands of gods. The being was huge even in this humanoid appearance, with its size larger then most suns. Although unlike suns, instead of releasing light, the Overseer looked as if it was sucking all the light from the surroundings. The body was completely pitch black and looked like an endless void. The reason all the gods were being so quiet was because they knew that the only chance of getting rid of this nuisance was with the element of surprise. One mistake and The Overseer will wake up and wipe them all out, or worse¡ The gods kept getting closer and closer, inching towards the monstrous body. They soon had it completely surrounded and they were in such a formation that no god would hurt another with their weapons or spells. It looked as if they had been preparing for this day for years¡ Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences. Finally, with a signal from the god leading the charge, everyone present attacked The Overseer with everything they had. The front lines consisting of the melee fighters unleashed their divine weapon¡¯s most powerful skills. The back-lines supported them with magic so powerful it would be capable of destroying whole Solar Systems with ease. They kept on and on attacking, they knew they only had one shot. If they failed, they would die. So they went all out, not holding anything back. It was the first time they had used their powers to such an extent, and they all hoped that it would be enough. After days of unrelenting attacks, the gods had finally exhausted all their powers. They backed away from the place The Overseer had been, waiting for the dust and debris to settle. When the area finally cleared, what they saw was exhilarating! The ground was full of craters, but what excited them was that the Overseer was nowhere to be found! They had killed the most powerful being in the multiverse! Cheers erupted all around as the tired gods hugged each other! They would finally be able to do whatever they wanted, and most of them were already thinking of what they would do with their newly found freedom. As the cheering gods started to leave the place, they failed to realize that something was weird. How were they able to defeat such a powerful existence that had been present since the beginning of time so easily? The answer to the question was simple: because The Overseer had allowed them to do so. He had been tired of being all alone at the top, with everything and everyone afraid of him. He had never actually ¡®lived¡¯, he had just existed with all this immense power since the beginning of time. Now, he was tired of his empty life, and had allowed all the gods to ¡®sneak¡¯ up on him and ¡®kill¡¯ him. For The Overseer knew that truly killing him is impossible. He somehow knew that as soon as he died, he would just be born again somewhere. How he knew this was a mystery to him, he just knew it since as far back as he could remember. The Overseer, finally free from his duties, prepared excitedly for the adventure up ahead. For the first time in his long, long life, he would actually be born! Chapter 1- Birth It¡¯s all darkness around me. Have I actually died? Was it a mistake to let those weaklings kill me while I stayed there doing nothing? Could I have been wrong that I would actually be reborn again? Hmm¡ I don¡¯t actually know. It must take some time for me to be reborn I guess. At least I hope that¡¯s the case, otherwise it would be really stupid of me to let myself die so easily. I think I¡¯ll just wait for now. Panicking and assuming things won¡¯t get me anywhere. It¡¯s better to wait and see what happens¡ Besides I can finally rest now. There¡¯s nothing for me to look at, no one to keep track of, no need to worry if everyone is doing their jobs properly. It¡¯s a nice change, somehow this endless darkness is comforting. _________________________ I don¡¯t know how long I have been waiting for, it must have been eons. It¡¯s time enough for me to start getting tired of this darkness. I used to like it, it comforted me. But now, when so much time has passed, it¡¯s starting to get on my nerves. I don¡¯t know when I will be reborn, if I will even be reborn. Surely after all this time my soul should have been fused with a being. Or was I mistaken? I never did have any proof of whether I will be reborn after death or not. I simply trusted in my gut. Hmm¡ I hope I wasn¡¯t wrong¡ Wait¡ the darkness is changing¡ it¡¯s still dark around me but there¡¯s a hint of redness surrounding me¡ I think it¡¯s the start of my birth! Whew¡ I was right after all! With time, the redness grew all around me. I waited for the chance to get to the outside world, see with my own eyes what it means to be alive. Soon, I was able to move somewhat. I discovered I had two feet and two legs, much like the shape I had been when I died, which is weird¡ I wasn¡¯t aware of any race that had this shape. Did the gods make this shape as a tribute to me? Hmm¡ Only time will tell. I started to hear voices, although they were too muffled and low for me to make out anything. Whenever I head the voices I tried to move towards it, hoping that I might be able to hear something and understand just a little bit about the world outside. However, no matter how much I kicked or tried to move, the space was too cramped for me to do much. I did discover that whenever I kicked outwards towards the walls of my surroundings, I would hear voices filled with delight, as though my kicking was something good. I proceeded to kick as often as I could, hoping that if it was a good thing for me to kick and it brought joy to others, I might not be as alone as I once was in my previous life. However, my body seemed to be too weak for me to keep up the kicks for long. I would get tired extremely quickly and be forced to go back to sleep. Soon enough, I felt something I had never felt before: pain. It was strange, I had always been too powerful for anything to hurt me. Even when all the gods were attacking me, I only felt a slight itch. Either this new body of mine is too weak or the pain I am feeling is too great. With the pain, I also felt a pushing sensation, and I felt myself moving backwards. I tilted my head and found that I was moving towards some form of light behind me. I tried to move around to get a better look but the pushing was too strong for me to cope. Let¡¯s just see what happens¡ With a final strong pushing force, I finally moved out of the red place that had been my home for so long and opened my eyes to a light that almost blinded me! I had to blink a few times to get used to the light, and I found myself surrounded by a few more beings that also had two arms and two legs. Some were looking at me with delight, some with worry and some with fear. Hmm¡ I think I was just born. Seems it¡¯s time for me to start a new life! __________________________ Elliot Ray was walking around nervously outside a closed door. He was worried sick about many different things. Firstly, behind the door was his wife, Jasmin, who was about to give birth to his son/daughter. He was worried about her health as he knew she wasn¡¯t too strong to begin with and the birthing process is extremely taxing on the body. Secondly, he was worried if his child would be born healthy or not. He hoped the child would be healthy, as he wasn¡¯t confident enough that he would be able to support his child if he/she needed special attention. Thirdly, even if the child was born healthy, Elliot still wasn¡¯t sure if he would be able to support his increased family financially. Lastly, if the child was a girl, Elliot hoped that she won¡¯t be beautiful. Elliot knew all too well what happened to poor girls who were beautiful¡ He kept pacing about, trying to get rid of all his worries, but it was to no avail. He just couldn¡¯t get rid of all the ¡®what if¡¯ questions running through his mind. This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report. He was still pacing about when the door burst open and a midwife came out with a face full of alarm. ¡°Mr. Elliot! Come quick!¡± Fearing the worst, Elliot ran behind the midwife inside the. He saw his wife first of all, holding a child with a worried face. All the midwives and some friends of Jasmin¡¯s were standing around the room, some with fear on their face and some just simply alarmed. Elliot hastened towards his wife and saw that she was thankfully breathing well and seemed fine more or less. But her expression was anything but fine. ¡°What¡¯s wrong? Is everything okay?¡± Jasmin finally looked up from the baby towards Elliot. Wordlessly, she handed the child in her hands to Elliot. Puzzled, Elliot took the child and immediately found out what the cause of all the worry was. The baby was a boy, and looked healthy enough. He was staring curiously around without making a single sound. The worrisome thing was that his eyes were crimson red, not just the pupils, but his entire eyes were red! His jet black hair and red eyes made him look completely like a demon out of nightmares! Hoping against hope that there was some kind of explanation to this, Elliot asked, ¡°What¡¯s wrong with his eyes? Could it be some kind of injury¡?¡± No one answered. Everyone just stayed quiet and looked at each other nervously. Suddenly, the oldest midwife by the name of Sally spoke, ¡°Give the child to me. Maybe his eyes are filled with blood and we are just assuming the worst. Hand him over and I¡¯ll try washing his eyes, let¡¯s hope it¡¯s just simply blood and nothing else.¡± Elliot immediately handed over the newborn over to Sally with a new found hope in his heart, and looked closely to what she was doing. She simply walked over to a water basin filled with clean water and dipped her hand in, then started washing out the child¡¯s eyes. For a few minutes no one spoke, and the only sounds to be heard were of Sally washing the child¡¯s eyes while Jasmin cried silently on the bed. Sally then stopped washing and looked at the child again, then without a word she handed the child back over to Elliot with a slight smile on her face. When Elliot looked down again at the child, his pupils were now jet black like his hair and the surroundings were white, completely normal eyes! Elliot started grinning and handed the child back to Jasmin, who was still on the verge of tears. Sally then spoke loudly as Jasmin was examining the baby with a relieved face, ¡°Seems like my guess was correct, thank the Gods! Congratulations on having a healthy baby boy Elliot and Jasmin!¡± With that, the mood in the room lifted considerably as Elliot hugged his wife who was now crying with relief. All this time, the boy just kept silent and observed his surroundings¡ __________________________ Whew! That was close. Apparently having red eyes was a huge problem. I heard what the man, presumably my father, said about my eyes and was able to catch a glimpse of my eyes in a mirror while a female held me. They were red, just like my eyes in my original body had been. Luckily, I still had my power to shift my physical appearance as I wanted, and I willed my eyes to turn black and look just like the eyes of the people surrounding me looked like while the idiot female was splashing my eyes with water. It seemed to work, as after that everyone calmed down and the mood in the room turned light. I kept observing my surroundings, but there wasn¡¯t much to look at. I still didn¡¯t know what race I was just born as, all I knew was that everyone surrounding me was incredibly weak! I mean seriously, seriously weak! If it¡¯s true that the gods made this race after seeing the shape I was in when I died, then this race wasn¡¯t made as a tribute to me as I thought, instead it was probably made to mock me! Anger filled my mind as I vowed to wreak havoc on those idiot gods! But before I could shift into something else and go beat the living daylights out of the gods, my little weak body got tired and my eyes started to feel droopy. Cursing my weak body and the idiot gods, I drifted off to sleep as I heard the man whisper to the woman who I think is my mother, ¡°I think we should name him Fenix, so that we can always remember his eyes that looked just like the eyes of a Phoenix.¡± ______ Author here. Thank you very much! I hope I will be able to deliver a good, enjoyable story for you all! Chapter 2- Decision CURSE THIS WEAK BODY! CURSE THOSE IDIOT GODS! CURSE EVERYTHING! AAARRRGGHHH! Apparently all that yelling inside my head tired me out yet again, and I am falling asleep... DAMMIT! (2 hours later) This is what I am talking about. This body is just so weak I can¡¯t even begin to describe it! I tried shifting into something, anything, more powerful but did you know what happened when I tried to shift? NOTHING! Yup, that¡¯s right! Not a thing! This tiny body is so weak it can¡¯t even support full body transformation! I can at most change the colour of my eyes, grow my nails a bit and grow my hair. That¡¯s it! I can¡¯t even crush a little lesser God in this body, imagine how weak I am! Not even a lesser god! I must be the weakest thing in the entire multiverse! And this isn¡¯t even the end of my rant! Oh no no no no no! It¡¯s not only my weakness, it¡¯s also how I am supposed to behave! All other little things of my race are supposed to be so stupid they don¡¯t even know when they are hungry! They just bawl their eyes out and their parents have to figure out what¡¯s wrong with their little bastard! AND I AM SUPPOSED TO BEHAVE LIKE THEM!!! DAMMIT! I¡¯m getting tired again¡ NOOO! Stay open eyes! If you don¡¯t stay open I will make¡. (1.5 hours later) AAAARGH!! DAMN THIS BODY! Now, where was I..? Ah that¡¯s right¡ My rant¡ So it¡¯s not just that little things at the same age as me can¡¯t feel when they are hungry, they can¡¯t even control their bodies! Their arms and legs flail about helplessly, while they make incomprehensible sounds with their mouths! And don¡¯t even get me started on how we relieve ourselves¡ URGGHH!! I just hope no one from the gods finds out about this fact¡ I might just have to kill myself and hide myself forever because of the shame! Then there¡¯s the thing about how I get my food! It has to do something with my mother¡¯s chest area! Oh the horror! Although I have to say that the soft sensation of her chest and the taste of the liquid is nice¡ but still! The horror! And the worse thing about all this is that I can¡¯t even do anything to change all this! All I can do is suffer through this hell and try to make the best of it! CRAP! I¡¯m falling asleep again aren¡¯t I?!? CURSE THIS BODY! CURSE THE¡. ____________________________ It¡¯s so wonderful that I finally have a child of my own! I had longed for one for so long, but Elliot had always refused because of our financial position and some other matters. Sure, we may not be the richest family around but we make do just fine. It¡¯s not like I was asking for a whole herd of children like some families have, I just wanted one child and that¡¯s it. After a lot of convincing and plenty of arguments I finally convinced Elliot that it was time for us to have a child. He did have one condition though: If the child was a girl and she was growing up to be beautiful, he would ¡®mark¡¯ her face. A ¡®mark¡¯ is nothing but a scar, usually a huge one that spreads all across the face. Poor people like us are forced to do this to our pretty daughters so that they may escape the clutches of the rich nobles, as the scar makes them undesirable for the nobles. Luckily, I was never much of a looker. Just average really¡ But I did have two friends who were quite pretty. One of those was ¡®marked¡¯ by her parents, but the other¡¯s parents didn¡¯t do so, hoping that their luck would enable their child to stay unnoticed long enough. My friend was almost 16 when she was spotted by a noble, and in the end her parents were forced to witness unspeakables things done to their daughter before they were killed and their daughter was taken. I haven¡¯t seen her since¡ The nobles take this as a sort of game: Who can find the prettiest commoner from the poorest of places to make as their slave? It¡¯s absolutely disgusting. But there¡¯s nothing anyone can do about it. I knew all too well what happens to female slaves, so I naturally agreed with Elliot¡¯s condition. It may seem cruel for parents to scar their own children, but it¡¯s much, much better then what they would have to face otherwise. Anyways, coming back to reality¡ I looked at the young boy in my lap. Fenix¡ He was such a cutie! I was terrified when he was born with those red eyes of his, sure that he would be killed immediately on the grounds of being some sort of demon. Luckily, Sally kept a calm head and figured out it was just some blood¡ although how blood only collected on his eyes and not anywhere else I have no idea¡ Fenix is also extremely odd. He never cries or does normal baby stuff. On the contrary, he always looks like he is angry! He is always frowning and scowling, which looks so cute on his little baby face! But seriously, I don¡¯t know why he always seems so angry. He is also always reluctant on feeding, although when I push him towards my chest and hold him there he calms down and starts feeding normally. He also never cries¡ which I am both thankful for and worried about. At least he still sleeps a lot, just like a normal baby does¡ maybe even sleeps a bit more then others, like he is always tired from doing something¡ not really sure¡ A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation. ¡°Come on darling, it¡¯s time!¡± I looked up and saw that Elliot was there. I smiled, today was a big day! We would finally be able to move out of the caring facility and take Fenix to our own home for the very first time! We had managed to take care of him inside the facility for a whole week thanks to the owner of the establishment owing a favor to Elliot. It really did help out a lot for me to catch up on my health a bit and also for Fenix to interact with other newborns¡ Although he always seemed to look at the other newborns with an expression of disgust¡ I hope that¡¯s just my imagination¡ We packed away the few items we had and I picked up Fenix, making double sure that I was holding him securely. He seemed to have woken up from the nap and was looking around curiously, like trying to figure out why we were moving or where we were going. He really does look smart, he could also be a genius! We stepped out and Fenix¡¯s eyes grew wide! I chuckled at the sight, it must be so wondrous seeing such a vast world for the first time! Although instead of looking around Fenix seemed to be staring at the sky, with a hint of worry on his little face. I looked up but saw nothing out of the ordinary, the same blue sky stretched about with a few clouds and the sun which was shining. Hmmm¡ He must just be surprised that¡¯s all¡ __________________________ I woke up because I was rudely being shaken around! My mother was holding me while my father as holding onto some things. Yet again I cursed my weak body, I couldn¡¯t even move from one place to another on my own! We moved while my mother kept me close to her body, like I was some fragile creature that would be injured with the slightest of touches. And you know what? I really would be injured in this useless, weak, disgus¡. Wait, are we outside..? Yes! I have been waiting for a chance to be outside! I immediately looked towards the sky and filled my eyes with power, enabling me to see for billions and billions of miles. What I saw alarmed me! I had thought I had been reborn after a few thousand years, a hundred thousand at the most, but the positions of the stars in the distance tell me another story. A lot of time seems to have passed. Not thousands¡ millions! Maybe even billions of years have passed since I let those idiotic gods kill me! And that is alarming indeed! Not just because of the time which has passed, but what the passing of time signifies. Gods and beings such as me gain power with time. The more time a being is alive, naturally the more powerful it becomes. This means that while my soul had been drifting away for all those billions of years, the other gods must have been gaining power. And a billion years is a lot of time to gain power! Sure, I am still confident in defeating any god one-on-one if I had my previous power, but I¡¯m not too sure if I would be able to wipe out 300 gods now as easily as I did before. This is troublesome. My plan was just to get killed, spend a few hundred years living an actual life and then returning back to my duties as The Overseer. It seems I failed to take into account the fact that reincarnating may take time. And for someone as powerful as me, reincarnating apparently takes a few billion years. If I am to rise to my previous position and hold it, I will have to be patient. I will have to take out one god at a time as I gain power, not muscle my way through hundreds of them like I had planned to. My thoughts were interrupted by my mother saying, ¡°Fenix look! This is our home. I know it¡¯s not much but we love it! Come on, let me show you around!¡± I looked at where she was pointing and saw a small, double story house made out of bricks. My mother was right, it really didn¡¯t look like much. It was small, the paint was chipped and scratched in many places and even the bricks didn¡¯t look in good condition. It was a marvel that the house was still standing at all. I didn¡¯t listen much to my mother as she took me inside our small house and showed me around. My father seemed to be saying something about why is my mother talking to me when I can¡¯t even understand it and my mom is retorting in some way. But I wasn¡¯t paying attention at all¡ I was thinking about what to do. I had planned on transforming my body as soon as it gets powerful enough and leave this place once and for all. But as I looked at my mother¡¯s eyes filled with love and my father¡¯s smiling face, I realised I had completely forgotten why I let myself die in the first place. Wasn¡¯t this whole fiasco the result of me wanting to live an actual life? So what if I am in a weak body, I seem to have good people to take care of me and who love me. I have never even been loved before, only feared or hated. It¡¯s decided then. I¡¯ll stay in this body for now and act like how this race is supposed to in front of everyone here¡ Meanwhile I¡¯ll gather as much information as possible on this world, the gods and work on gaining back my power! __________________ Thanks for the people who have followed/marked as favorite.
