《Journey to Raise a Dodge-Debuff Scarecrow》 Awaken the Beast In this land of Aelgria everyone has a spirit beast that resides inside of them. Some have useless spirits like Fragile Earthworm, while others are top tier beasts like Berserk Lightning Tyrants, but all of them find out what resides in them at the age of 6. As such, as the day of my 6th birthday quickly approaches, I grew as excited as ever to find out what my spirit beast will be. Spirit beasts are usually inherited from parent to child, sadly I grew up in an orphanage where I never knew my parents, as such I had no clue what type of spirit I would get. I had two friends who also shared the same birthday as me so we were elated to find out our spirit beasts together. My two friends were named Rohnen and Vadela. Rohnen was a cool and flirtatious guy who was adventurous at heart, He also had a calm mind that knew his own limits, though with all these good points he usually is easy to anger, and with his anger comes a violent temper. He sprouts blond hair in a long spiky comb over hairstyle, dashing green eyes, and a glistening white teeth. Vadela is nicknamed "Ice Queen" because of her beautiful appearance of long waist-length hair, ice blue eyes, fair yet pale skin, and a slender frame, and is known throughout the village to reject any guy that asks to date her on sight. She rarely displays emotions as she is always looking at guys with disgust. She is like a bird though, wandering around and quite curious, and if danger permits itself to show up she is ready to dash. Despite this she is a headstrong girl and quite brave, as if to her, if there is no danger then it is alright to do whatever. I, myself am an ordinary boy with curly brown hair all over the place, beady grey eyes, body quite round if you ask me, short stubby legs, and hardly good at anything. My friends told me that i have a habit of distancing myself from others, and a bit of a glutton. Finally the day of our 6th birthday arrived and to celebrate, our caretaker took the three of us to the cathedral to awaken our spirit beasts. As it is the first awakening we are required to apply spirit runes to draw out the beast and summon it into the world. After that we had to get it to acknowledge us as it''s master. Those who have their beast fail to recognize them were deemed incompatible and was forced to live the remainder of their lives as a normal civilian while their beast was sent into the wild to grow and cultivate on it''s own. This is how in the wilderness of the Aelgria continent wild spirit beasts live and cultivate, they also can provide the lucky people who do turn into Spirit Tamers, the rings and abilities that will go into their Spirit Beasts. Up first was our Ice Queen Vadela, she glanced at us and with our encouragement she walked up to the cleric who drew the runes on her arms, back, legs, stomach, chest, practically everywhere except her genital regions. She then went over to a rune circle and laid on the ground with her body spread out and her eyes closed. A bright light flashed and out of her body came an egg, this egg hatched and out tumbled a little tiny chick. From the size and shape we could not determine what type of chick it was but oddly enough, it was a light blue color and the room started to get a bit chilly. The tiny chick looked around before it laid it''s eyes on Vadela. The chick was quite curious and hobbled over to Vadela and observed her for a few minutes before snuggling itself against her. The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. "Congratulations young lady, you are now a Spirit Tamer to a [Frost Hatchling]" the cleric announced and Vadela opened her eyes and quickly put her clothes back on deeply embarrassed to say the least. She picked up the tiny bird and brought it over to us, we quickly took a glance at it before it dissipated into smoke, the smoke entering a rune on Vadela''s body. Quite confident in himself, Rohnen quickly scrambled up to the cleric, stripping his clothes along the way till he was nothing but his underwear, The cleric quickly drew the runes all over his body and placed him in the circle with the exact same instructions. After the period of an hour went by a furred creature jumped out of Rohnen''s body and thumped it''s chest furiously roaring. The Ape that appeared ran around smashing the floor and roaring it''s head off before it settled down and observed the human from where it came from. As Rohnen was subconsious during this process he couldn''t appeal to it physically, but during the awakening process you had a spiritual and mental link to each other. After another few minutes of psychological warfare, the ape dissipated into smoke and was absorbed into Rohnen who afterwards woke up and jumped for joy, he ran to hug us but we evaded him since he decided to rush us before he put his clothes back on. "congratulations child, you got a top tier beast called a Thunderous Gorilla Ape." the cleric told him and then he finally beckoned me forward. With a nervous gulp I advanced forward, taking my clothes off till I was in my underwear and the cleric drew the runes. The runes had a total of six slots which we hold our spirit beasts in, If we wanted more we would either dismiss a spirit beast or pay an extraordinarily colossal amount of money to draw a new one on our body, Spirit Beasts could be raised up to rank 100, but getting them to 100 was a difficult task, in the last thousands of years, it was almost unheard of, with only three people who accomplished it in total. I followed the same steps as my friends had done and after a bit of soul searching I see a seed. This seed appeared to be growing and after a bit of prodding it sprouted and rapidly grew, as if time accelerated until a pumpkin appeared in front of me. It had a carved out face like one you would see on a jack-o-lantern, but it had a sinister appeal to it. The pumpkin seemed afraid for some reason and released a type of gas on me, and I saw many horrors jump out at me, compelling me to run away. I wanted to flee, to get out of this dream space, but as I was about to run, the glint in the eyes of the pumpkin showed that it was testing me. In the split-second before I bolted, I made up my mind to stand my ground and confront the horrors. As the horrors approached me I closed my eyes and felt the presence of wind passing me. After that the Pumpkin rolled over to me and went into my body. "congratulations kid, you are now a spirit tamer with the beast [Pumpkin Head], though it''s ratings are not that great" The cleric said and I woke up, putting my clothes on and went over to my friends with a smile on my face. Now that we have our spirit beasts, let us go train. Leveling the Beast Author mistake, When I plan stuff for future I normally make people in their teenage years, sorry about the personality traits given that early at 6 years of age, but to tone it down I would say that Vadela usually avoids boys and refusing to play with them, and Rohnen is always trying to play with the girls and telling them how pretty they are despite how they avoid him. (Telling people who pretty they are is normally a sign that someone grew up with manners and how if they do not have anything nice to say then don''t say it at all, so instead just compliment them) I forgot to change up my drafts in context of the age I gave them, I feel like a beginner all, but thank you for pointing out my mistakes.
After the good news of all of us being able to successfully becoming Spirit Tamers, we wanted to celebrate, unfortunately for us, that was when the orphanage decided that we were capable of earning money, so now our stay there has to be paid for. Our caretaker sneered at us "Now that you are capable "Adults" you can make money for the orphanage, that is if you want to stay there where we house you, keep you clean, feed you, put the clothes on your back, you name it, you owe us" "How much will the expenses be" I asked them and the caretaker laughs with a loud chortle. "Oh about 10 silvers for housing you alone, 20 for food, plus 5 for the materials required for a bath, cold at that, clothes are quite cheap, but they wear to easily and of poor quality, if a sudden wind comes, consider yourself naked. Additional expenses and higher grade goods are naturally more expensive, you have to pay for next month and each following month after if you want to stay" He explained to us, the greed was in his eyes and tone of speech, and the sense of despair that radiated from us drowned us altogether. To the average worker, they would make about 1 to two silvers a week, that was hardly half of the housing amount. Silvers could be broken down into 100 bronze pieces, but can be made by exchanging 100 silvers for a single gold pieces, and after that 100 more gold pieces for a diamond pieces, and above that is platinum. A hunter or adventurer would naturally make more money as they bring in vital meat and furs as well as crafting materials and herbs needed by the village. To make end''s meet we decided to go into the adventurers guild to register ourselves. The receptionist a kind beautiful lady looked at us with pity "Another batch of orphans I take it" she asked in a bored tone. We just nodded our heads and with a sigh the receptionist got out three tablets and had us hold it till writing appeared.
Bronze Rank Class E Tablet. This tablet is a probation period and also the newest of the new adventurers. This tablet will showcase your name or nickname and one of your contracted spirit beasts/ main weapon. This tablet will record your current quest, you can take as many as you like but if not completed in time or failed, you will have to pay a heavy compensation. Tablet Information: Name: Vale Hawtha Contracted Spirit: Pumpkin Head Reputation: None Guild Cash: 0
I was excited to start working but i was even more amazed about the fact that the tablet shrunk down to the size of a pin and the receptionist told us to put it somewhere on our body, it will attach itself in no time. After much thought I decided to put it on my chest over the heart. Vadela chose to wear it as an ear ring and Rohnen opted to put it on his hand. We rushed over to the quest board and looked over all the jobs. "With your current levels I suggest a gathering job, finding herbs used for potions will gather you quite a sum, and their in a relatively easy location, even for beginners" One of the people at the board suggested to us, we nodded our heads and quickly took the herb job, a few people laughed at our how naive we were but we were six years old, how could we understand any of this. Following the road into the forest we summoned our spirit beasts. Frost Hatchling, with the natural ability Frost Touch, which envelope an object, creature, or other in ice, at this stage it could only make things slow and cold, and not entirely frozen. Thunderous Gorilla Ape, with it''s skill Berserk Mode, which enabled it to increase it''s damage and speed for a short amount of time, the drawbacks however was a reduction in will during and after, complete immobilization for a minute. Pumpkin Head, it was utterly useless when it comes to combat, but it had a great support ability called Fear Gas, which produces a mist of fear inducing gases that attacked the senses, throwing the enemy into disarray, sadly it only worked on weak willed creatures, and humans had a great resistance to this type of stuff, making it useless. " We were in search of Thymus, a small minty leaf-grass that is used for medical properties. "Alright we are paid about 1 silver per bundle of Thymus, a bundle normally contains about 20 leaves and it is quite abundant in this forest so it shouldn''t be that difficult to retrieve. " Vadela says. We walked throughout the forest, the trees widely spread so that the ground was sunny and bright, This revealed to sight for miles around us, but oddly enough nothing appeared, no creatures, no humans, nothing for miles to come. Unnatural for a forest I would say. Reading on this site? This novel is published elsewhere. Support the author by seeking out the original. "Can we hurry this up, I feel like we are walking in circles" Rohnen complained. "We just need a few bundles of Thymus, how hard can it be, they grow in the forest right?" I asked and Vadela held up her Adventurer''s plate. "Thymus should be relatively simple to find, they grow in the meadows but can be found in forested areas with lots of sunlight, Look there is even a picture of it " Vadela points out and we looked at our plates. undefined "I saw some a bit ago, let''s go back and get it" I said and we turned around. After a few minutes of walking, our little feet were getting tired out and we all decided to take a break. "Wish we could find a creature to fight, fighting always ranks up Spirit Beasts the best. " Rohnen piped up and Vadela gave a counter argument to his statement, "That is not true, sure fighting is helpful in strategy, but the most useful cultivation method is essence absorption, as enables it to grow stronger by having more energy reserves and also makes it have a chance for gaining new abilities." "Fighting is always best, at least you can train to use the new powers" Rohnen argued. "Sure sure, tell me how you''re going to fight without an ability to use" Vadela countered. "Guys....." I said "Alright, Fight me, I dare you to fight me, I''ll show you that fighting is everything" Rohnen roared. "Watch, Essence will make my hatchling outstrip your ape by miles" Vadela retorted. "GUYS...." I exclaimed and both of my friends were fuming in anger turned to look at me. "What do you want" they grunted in hostility. "Since we were walking before till now, I always felt like this place was familiar, but isn''t that the same rock we passed by moments earlier?" I asked, pointing toward a rock that looked like a deformed marble bust of a person. Vadela moves closer to examine the statue, "Now that you mention it, I can see that your right, not even five minutes have passed since we walked pass this rock, I believe we passed it at an earlier time as well" "See I told you we''ve been going in circles, now you can agree that I am right" Rohnen announced triumphantly and Vadela smacked him on top the head. "You fool doesn''t that mean we got stuck in some trap" "If its a trap what do you suppose we should do, ask them to release us?" Rohnen scowled. "If you want me to, If this is an illusion trap then my [Pumpkin Head] can counter it to some extent." I said and with agreement from my friends I activated the rune on my body. Popping out of my head the [Pumpkin Head] lit up and stared at me. [Pumpkin Head] use Fear Gas I thought and within moments the area was full of the fear-inducing gas. The area around us distorted and a giant ugly flower revealed itself. "[Illusion Rafflesia] I warned my friends and ordered my pumpkin to attack. Summoning their spirits Vadela and Rohnen also sent their Spirit Beasts to attack. The Rafflesia spat out a goo and multiple Rafflesias started to appear around us. "They''re illusions, try to target the real one" I shouted and my pumpkin tackled the flower that spat the goo, which turned out to be a fake. The [Frost Hatchling] of Vadela and the [Thunderous Gorilla Ape] of Rohnen also smashed fakes as well and the remaining illusions spat out more goo which in turn made more illusions of the Rafflesia. "Gosh so annoying, What rank could this smelly flower possibly be. " Rohnen howled in anger and ordered his Ape into berserk mode, which smashed quite a number of the flowers, sadly none of them real. "Vale, try using fear gas again, it distorted the illusion last time, it should work this time around" Vadela suggested as her hatcling took out another fake and thought it was a brilliant plan. "If I do use it, then get your [Frost Hatchling]''s ability alright, this should slow or freeze it, now lets go" I suggested and my [Pumpkin Head] used it''s Fear Gas ability, The illusions in the area disperse leaving badly formed images and the real Rafflesia. Taking this opportunity Vadela''s Hatchling swooped in and activated frost touch, the leaves on the flower slowly becoming encased in ice as the flower screamed out in pain. It tried to escape but Rohnen''s ape came and smashed it into he ground. Floating up from the destroyed flower wisps started to float into the breeze. "Quick, that is the Illusion Rafflesia''s essence, Vale your most compatible since it''s a plant spirit, and a mind type beast." Vadela exclaimed and I rushed over and fed it into my pumpkin head. The [Pumpkin Head] hopped once, it''s body glowing before it retreated back into my body, I could feel it culvitating the essence and we used the time to go around now taking the Thymus that appeared in large quantities. After we gathered our 4th bundle of Thymus without difficulty, my Pumpkin head sent me a mind message indicating it is finished refining. "Guys thank you for giving me the essence, My pumpkin head is now a [Level 4 Pumpkin Head] and aside from it''s [Fear Gas], it now has the ability [Illusion Circle] which creates a circle where anything inside of it will start to see illusions of the person''s choice. Learning the Classes and Types of a Beast Looking at the new skill I let out a lard whoop, this shocking my friends greatly. Both their Thunderous Gorilla Ape and Frost Hatchling out and ready to fight when they ran over to me. Amazed by their concern I waved my hands "No need to worry guys, My Pumpkin Head just learned a new ability that is all" They both looked around the area in concern, searching for any dangers like the Illusion Rafflesia before coming forward. "Are you sure you''re alright, nothing happened around here.... right?" Vadela asked cautiously I just smiled at her and summoned my Pumpkin Head. "To show you that nothing really happened I will demonstrate the new skill my pumpkin head learned, "Illusion Circle." My pumpkin jumped around happily and the area distorted into a beach "I knew it, this is a trap" Rohnen exclaimed and sent his Thunderous Gorilla Ape towards me, my Pumpkin Head used it''s Fear Gas ability to attempt to induce fear but for some reason, my Pumpkin''s status failed to work, sadly the ape smashed my pumpkin to pieces and the illusion ended. "Yay the threat is..... gone?, Vale what happened, why is your pumpkin smashed?" "I told you guys nothings wrong but you attacked me anyway" I exclaimed, my anger rising up like a heated kettle. "Ah...." Rohnen murmured in disbelief and then my fist came down onto his head like divine judgement. "Good thing the spirit beast of the soul doesn''t die unlike wild spirits beasts" I shrugged after giving Rohnen the beating he deserved. "I saw you use your Fear Gas, yet Rohnen''s Ape didn''t run away in fear, I wonder what happened to to cause this" Vadela asked carrying another bundle of Thymus. "I wonder that too, but now it will take about 2 days for my Pumpkin to regenerate, so thanks a bunch Rohnen" I complained and Rohnen held up his hands saying "Whoa whoa, I know it''s my fault but... don''t make me feel so bad" he cries and slumps over in defeat "I say we have enough bundles so both of you carry them since I had to do most of the work with you two goofing off" Vadela smiled at us and both of us started to complain. "Oh do you want me to freeze you to death tonight?" Vadela''s smile started to turn sinister. Both Rohnen and I shrunk back from the threat. "Yes mam" we both said and started to carry the piles while Vadela skipped on ahead of us. "Man, i''m sorry about the pumpkin but this place is dangerous, we almost died to the Illusion Rafflesia so I didn''t want to take chances" Rohnen apologized to me. "We''re friends so I guess I can forgive you" I said and Rohnen brighten up. I was glad to have tried my new powers, despite how easy it is to break the illusion, when well placed it could cause havoc against unsuspecting targets. "Tell me, what did you do to get your Ape to resist my Fear Gas?" I asked Rohnen and he looks at me confused. "Huh? What do you mean? "Are you saying you didn''t do anything to counter my Fear Gas?" "No, the Ape went and attacked on my orders, after that the pumpkin got smashed" "If there is a school for learning about our spirit beasts I would love to attend, sadly we got to work for our stay now" Vadela said, apparently overhearing our conversation. "I''m pretty sure it would cost money, only the older orphans who make tons of gold can afford that luxury, and by that time its already too late to attend a complete school career" I sighed. Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit. After another long walk, we finally got back to the Adventurer''s guild as night fell and placed the 7 bundles of Thymus on the counter. "Tiny worker ants aren''tcha" the female guild worker working the night shift cooed at us and she gave us a bag with 11 silvers inside of it. Rohnen and I celebrated by counting each piece just to make sure, and then we both jump up and down with joy. Vadela scoffs at us and turns toward the worker at the counter. "Excuse me, I have a question" Vadela said and the guild worker looks over at her. "Why anything for a freshie" the workers smiles and Vadela asks her question. " My friend used a status inducing move on my other friend''s spirit beast why did it fail?" The guild worker pondered and then asked a question back "Can you name what type of spirit beasts your friends have?" "A [Thunderous Gorilla Ape] and a [Pumpkin Head] " Vadela replied instantly and the Guild worker claps her hands together. "The Thunderous Gorilla Ape is a rare beast, it is a Berserk Class Strength Type spirit beast, while the Pumpkin Head is a common spirit beast that have a wide variety of skills, if your friend''s pumpkin head deals status, and then it could be classified as a Poltergeist Class Mind Type spirit beast." The guild worker said. "That being the case, there is a thing you should know. Mind Type Creatures psyche out Defense Type, Defense Types hold out against Speed Types, Speed Types outstrip the Strength Types, and finally Strength Types triumph over Mind Types." The guild worker explains. "And one final piece of knowledge, A creature''s class adds another strength or weakness depending on what class they are, for example, your friends Berserk Class spirit beast makes it more capable against Defense Type creatures, but he is even more vulnerable against speed types and when exhausted, the effects of Mind Types actually double." "Poltergeist class on the other hand, enables it to be on par to move like a speed type, but in exchange their offensive and defensive power is considerable nonexistent, one good hit can end a spirit beast of the poltergeist class." "Thank you for the information, See you again" Vadela bowed her head and turned to leave. "No problem, if you need any help then ask my anything" the guild worker waved us goodbye with us waving back. "She''s a nice lady" I said simply "Your right, but now I wonder what type of creature Vadela''s Frost Hatchling is" Rohnen said and we both turned to look at Vadela who stopped in her place. "If I were to guess, my hatchling is probably a speed type, as for class, I have no idea" Vadela said looking toward the moon partially hidden by the clouds, "But let us race toward the orphanage, we got curfew remember" and she took off at a run. Rohnen and I looked at each other once and ran to catch up to her. To me everything slowed down, as if time suspended itself, either slowly moving or not moving at all. To me our laughter pierced the brightened the night sky, Surely if we all work together we can live happily, I thought this as we headed home, Everything seems so good at the time, but that was before I knew the plans that the orphanage held for us, what they plan to do. Taming a Beast Many months have passed since we had to start working, I grinned and looked at my guild plate

I looked at my Pumpkin Head who was now Rank 12. Sadly the lack of Spirit and Plant spirits beasts made it hard for my Pumpkin Head to actually gain skills. Rohnen''s Thunderous Gorilla Ape has reached Rank 15, and in addition to his Berserk Mode skill, he has the skill Discharge Electricity from when we defeated a creature called a Bolt Escargot. Vadela on the other hand has gotten her Frost Hatchling up to rank 11, it started to grow feathers and rank up from a Hatchling to a Frost Chick. In addition to her Frost Touch ability, it gained the ability Snow Storm.
"Welcome back Vadela, Rohnen, Vale, how was the subjugation quest this time" The guild receptionist, whose name was Sheila, asked and Rohnen called out, "It was great, we got rid of the Timber Wolves rather quickly." "This is great progress, who knows, maybe you children are prodigies" Sheila said. "Whats the next available quest, we have time for one more" Rohnen asked and Sheila took a paper from the counter and gave it to him. "I saved this just for you guys" Sheila winked and she turned to go help another customer while we decided to take the quest or not.
Bronze Rank A Quest: Quest Giver: Anna Lana Details: Anna is greatly interested in flowers, but since she has a condition where the sun burns her skin she can rarely go out. There is a special flower species Spirit Beast that can grow flowers and she wants one of them to grow a couple of flowers for her. Spirit Beast: Rainbow Bell-Rose Reward- 1 Gold.
"A Rainbow Bell-Rose? Anyone know what it is?" Rohnen asked and Vadela said that she did. "Its like a bell shaped flower, with roses all over it, the stem is under the bell so it protects itself. IT''s actually difficult to tame one of them or so I heard" "Let us go and tame one, let us not take this job till we actually acquire one though" I said cautiously. "Good idea, We can ask Sheila to hold it for us." Rohnen grinned and he waved for Sheila to come over. "We have decided to hold onto the quest for now, do you have any other suggestions?" "If you''re not going to take the Bell-Rose quest I can certainly hold onto it for you, not many people are actually willing to go tame this beast since all it does is grow flowers and as difficult it is to tame, its as equally difficult to train. For another quest I suggest taking a taming mission, it gives you experience on taming and lets you go find creatures you may want to tame" Sheila said and she held up three commissions that people had put up.
Bronze Rank C Quest: Quest Giver: Shuzek Mroa Details: Shuzek wants a Nimble Moss Monkey as a pet for his kid, he is a farmer who has to toil away at the fields all day so he doesn''t have enough time or money to grab one. These Nimble Moss Monkeys are known to hang around dense forest and rocks. Spirit Beast: Nimble Moss Monkey (2 preferable) Reward- 50 Silvers each.
Silver Rank E Quest: This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version. Quest Giver: Cayden Morales Details: Cayden requests for someone to look for and tame a Dusk Howitzer Borg, these are dangerous creatures who specializes in anti-air attacks, it is also known to rapidly charge forward and explode anything in range. Cayden wants one to breed so he can make an army to protect the village. Spirit Beast: Dusk Howitzer Borg Reward- 5 Gold per Borg.
Bronze Rank A Quest: Quest Giver: Andrea Green Details: Andrea lost some of her song birds, she fears that they may have met trouble in the forest so she wants help finding them. Each of the song birds has a blue collar around their neck. Spirit Beast: Ash Crane, Eastern Marsh Warbler, Shrill Shrike. Reward- 1 Gold each bird found.
"Should we go and grab the birds, they should be easy to find if their in the forest" I suggested, Vadela agreed, since her Frost Chick could find a compatible beast to learn another skill from. Rohnen was alright with it since it could be a valuable experience on his part. I was elated maybe I could tame another creature of the bird category, plants were cool but they could only get me so far. We huddled together to discuss a game plan. The Ash Crane wuld have fire abilities, making my Pumpkin Head unable to combat it, The Shrill Shrike would counter Rohnen''s Thunderous Gorilla Ape The Eastern Marsh Warbler could control water, which made it able to counter Vadela''s Frost Chick. I would take the Shrill Shrike, Vadela the Ash Crane and Rohnen the Eastern Marsh Warbler. "Alright guys, let''s get the birds back and meet the quota for this month" Rohnen cheered and Vadela and I cheered with him. We all ran out of the door, heading toward the forest where the birds would most likely be at. At the forest we separated to cover more grounds. After that we searched for hours. I checked a bush for the third time that evening, mud and dirt covered my body head to toe, my Pumpkin Head using it''s spirit energy to create an illusion circle. Many spirit beasts had wandered into my area, from Flare Squirrels to Spike Armor Raccoons and an occasional bird or two, yet no Shrill Shrike came in. I waited in a tree, hoping any creature of a spirit or plant attribute would wander in but as mentioned before they were quite scarce. I heard a chatter and I turned to look to see two monkeys with green fur. "Nimble Moss Monkeys" I whispered to myself. I remembered one of requests asking for one of the little guys. As it was a Plant-Beast it fitted under one of my taming specialties. Based on what Sheila taught me since I had a Spirit-Plant as my Spirit Beast then I had more of an affinity to Spirit and Plant Type which meant I could tame them easier. Sure I could tame other beasts, but I could bring out more potential in the spirit beasts that I had an affinity too. "Fear Gas" I commanded my pumpkin and he let out a fog. The monkeys ran around in fear and we, my pumpkin and I, knocked them out. I initiated a contract with each of the monkeys, as both of them were unconscious and their mind was in a state of fear they both accepted easily. Level 9 Speed Jester Nimble Moss Monkey, Level 13 Strength Knight Nimble Moss Monkey. Jester Class were jokers, they psyched out their opponents with tricks, they gain an increase to speed and mind type abilities yet a debuff to Offensive power. As for Knight Class they gained a buff to their Offensive and Defense prowess yet their speed goes down considerably. As soon as the contracts were settled one of the monkeys spoke in my mind. "Release us please, we must help her" "Help who?" "She is in danger, we must protect her" It exclaimed, it tried to get up but it''s body won''t listen to it. "Tell me who you have to help and then I will based on who it is" I tried to reason with them. "No time we must....." It started to say when shrill cry broke the silence of the forest. "Danger, we must go now" The monkey roared and to the best of it''s ability it charged toward the location of the scream. I ignored all pretense and charged after it. "Who could possibly be in danger?" The Beast: Misty Ice Doll I followed the monkeys as the scampered over to the source of the scream. I noticed it was getting progressively colder as we went toward the scream. As I crashed through the brush and into a clearing I saw the the Shrill Shrike on the ground, it''s wings bent and ice forming patches all over it''s body. Looming over it was a more humanoid figure. It had on a dress made of snowflakes, its young body was child-like and it stood no more than about 1 meters tall. its hair was long and embedded with icicles, her entire body was made out of ice. I used an Identification lens to look at the spirit beast and an information window popped up.
Misty Ice Doll Class: ???? Type: Mind Rank ??? Abilities: ????. ????. ????.
I cursed, the Identification Lens that I had bought were to weak to fully gauge the Misty Ice Doll''s power level. Not wanting to lose out on my commission I sent both Nimble Moss Monkeys forward The Jester Class Monkey i ordered to use her skill [Vine Control] and it grappled the Doll. The Knight Class Monkey was using it''s ability [Empowered Strike] and It charged in. The Misty Ice Doll was snared by the vines and was vulnerable to attacks, it being a Mind Type it probably wouldn''t last long against a Strength type Knight Class spirit beast. Unfortunately many things happened, maybe it was the speed debuff of the Knight Class, maybe it was because it was a Mind type but the Misty Ice Doll escaped with just one move. The Misty Ice Doll muttered [Flash Freeze] and the area around it turned completely white. The vines that were restraining it shattered into pieces, The Shrill Shrike was further damaged and my Knight Class Nimble Moss Monkey was frozen in place. The Misty Ice Doll turned to look at me and its face had two eyes with no pupils, just the white, dark blue lips that seemed cracked and skin with a dark luster to it. My Pumpkin head used [Fear Gas] to try to distract it but it seemed to not effect it in the slightest. I grew more and more worried. Come on think, what to do what to do, plant spirit beasts never did last against ice type beasts in the first place. I looked up to see the Misty Ice Doll ignoring me and going toward the Shrill Shrike, it''s face cracking. I see it deemed us as not a threat and ignored us, I took this time to send out an illusion circle making it appear as if the Shrike was somewhere else. At first the Doll was confused before it turned to us again. With the loss of it''s target the Doll''s face seemed to be rebuilding itself. With a wave of its hand it''s fingers grew into long icicles and it fired toward us, I grabbed both my pumpkin and my monkey and tried to shield them, but my pumpkin jumped out of my hands and took the brunt of the damage with it''s body, giving off a dying throe before dissipating into smoke. Another wave of it''s hand and another volley, I felt helpless, How could I be so useless in a fight, I closed my eyes thinking it was the end of me which I heard a thunderous roar. Out of the forest came Rohnen his Thunderous Gorilla Ape swatting aside the crystals as if they were flies. The Doll used flash freeze to try to take it down but with Rohnen''s ape in Berserk Mode, it did little to stop it. The Doll sent another volley at the ape, before realizing it had no effect on it so she backflipped to get away but was punched in mid-air by the Ape. The Doll was smashed aside, colliding into a tree, you could hear the sound of ice shattering but it got unsteadily to it''s feet, wobbling on the spot. "Why.... I just want an ability" the doll cried. Rohnen looked at me "What do we do with it, it almost killed our commissioned quest" I felt bad, it was a powerful spirit but now it was like a broken toy, sure it would have made us get a bad reputation if we failed the quest but now it was just pitiful to look at. "We could leave it for Vadela, she might want to tame it" I suggested "Oh Vadela, if we leave it she might also just kill it to advance her Frost Chick" Rohnen smirked and I threw him a look. "Whatever happens its up to her" I said. Rohnen sighed and he had his ape discharge electricity into the sky a signal for Vadela to come find him. "How was the Eastern Marsh Warbler?" I asked and he just scoffs "Easy peasy, its a water attribute bird so shocking it dealt twice the damage, almost killed it mind you, how about things on your end, your extra dirty" he giggled when he saw me covered in dirt. "I camped out and found two Nimble Moss Monkeys, as your attribute is Thunder and Beasts then you should be able to contract the Knight Class one. I said pointing toward the still frozen monkey. "I would take it, but its better to get more money, I remember there was a commission for it back in town" Rohnen smiled and there we stood, chatting away, We picked up mud and threw it at each other, we told jokes and ate our snacks. till Vadela showed up, her clothes torn and her breathing wild. "Hey what happened to you princess" Rohnen smirked and Vadela scratched his face with her nails "I''m don''t want to play right now" Vadela retorted . I steered clear of Vadela and Rohnen was screaming on the ground as blood droplets squeezed out of the micro-openings on his skin. "What did you call me for, I hopes it not another joke" Vadela asked. "We...we. fou....found.... and I....ice att...attribute cre.....cre....creature for y....you" I stuttered, I was afraid of the possibility of her scratching me" "Okay so where is it?" "What do you mean where is it, its over the......re" I stopped my sentence to look at the tree the Ice Doll was at. it seemed to have vanished. "Oh no" I groaned and I felt my face rip open. Event After all we went through we had managed to find the birds, my two Nimble Moss Monkeys were damaged and needed time to heal. The Eastern Marsh Warbler was safe and sound aside from it''s injuries. Rohnen had also managed to get his Ash Crane. As for the Shrill Shrike, we managed to capture it as we headed back to town. We hurried to the adventurers guild, thankfully we were quick enough to arrive before they closed the counters so we could turn in our commission. We got three gold, one per bird and 33 silvers and 33 bronze coins to split for turning in one of the monkeys The two monkeys hugged each other as they chittered and chattered their goodbyes to each other and we left. "Today''s commissions were exhausting, I can''t wait to go home, a nice warm bath would suffice" Rohnen grinned and Vadela threw a look at him. "Spend, spend, spend, spend. Is that all you know how to do? Save money for once, you don''t want to stay in the orphanage forever do you?" Vadela scoffed and she rushed ahead. "Pfft. money is used to increase the current lifestyle, who needs savings when you can just enjoy at the moment" Rohnen called after her. "You''re not saving too right?" Rohnen asked me. I looked to the side, attempting not to meet his gaze for the tiny tidbits of money that I was saving. "So.... you too huh.... FINE I GET IT, LET US ALL SAVE MONEY" Rohnen impulsly shouted and he stormed off. I just sighed, Vadela and her loner nature, Rohnen with his hot-headed joker personality. What about me, What did I do, Thinking about it, I couldn''t see how i acted. As someone once said "The most mysterious object, will always be oneself. its easy to observe others and pick their habits, but can you fully realize who you are?" I took those words to heart and did a bit of soul searching as I walked. "What, Who and Why am I?" I muttered to myself and arrived home, the orphanage. Rohnen had calmed down and Vadela happily seated at her seat. I joined them at the dinner table and took a piece of the hard bread being served. "I have an idea" I said simply and both turned to look at me. "If..... if we save money, then maybe we can buy a house, anyone can buy one as long as they pay the rent right?" "Thats cool, we can decorate it however we want, and no one will care" Rohnen grinned at the idea. "The expenses we could save from owning a house is great compared to this place" Vadela added. "We can go house hunting tomorrow, if push comes to shove we can always just build one" I said. I grew excited. The prospects of our own house. At that moment the owner of the place clapped his hands. "Alright children, I have an important announcement for you all so listen up. There will be an event tomorrow and you can find some future parents, so rest early and prepare your finest" he said and walked away. Excited chatter exploded from the crowd of orphans and in our group Vadela spoke first. "Must be nice having a family, I wouldn''t be eating this gruel if I had one" Rohnen took another piece of bread and after taking a bite said "Well, I have you guys, I don''t need no family" I had mixed feelings about parents, sure they would protect me from danger and they would feed me properly, but then there are "those" people. The ones who use you as a shield, or slave traders, or hazard laborers. If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation. I shuttered to think who I could possibly end up with. Honestly I think the three of us as is could possibly be the most peaceful time I had in my life.
The next morning we all lined up inside the orphanage. You could see scrubbed cheeks, clean nails, neatly dressed boys and girls of all ages fitted with their best attire. Vadela had on a little skirt and a sweater vest. Rohnen had a dress shirt on and long dress pants, and I was likewise. The owner was giving a lecture on how to appropriately behave and the penalties that would be given for anyone who screwed up. Rohnen had a confident smile and Vadela gave off a meek aura. As the bells chimed noon, a hoard of people rushed in. Some kid went forward to serve food and drinks, others offered to help people to chairs. Vadela, Rohnen and I went and grabbed trays ladled with multiple appetizers and went around serving. To say the least we did that the entire day from noon till late in the night, There was a lot of speaking from people to the owner and as time went people were pulled from duty and disappeared. By days end I fell exhausted to the ground. The last of the customers cleared out and a few people cheered when they left. I fell over panting, my legs felt like jelly and I could barely stay conscious. As I lumbered to bed I barely remembered to turn in my month''s rent and quickly grabbed the appropriate amount of gold and headed toward the office. As I neared it I heard voices, not wanting to disturb them i waited outside the door and that was when I heard it. "So that sell off was a success? Good good, Ha ha, 1 diamond for each child was a good deal." someone laughed but my mind stopped working when I heard a certain word. I rushed back to the doors to find Vadela and Rohnen to see if they were safe. I pushed my tired body to my limits and sent a silent prayer to what ever god would listen to a small child like me and hope for my friends to still be there. I burst into the room that my friends and I shared and saw Rohnen lazing around on the bed. "Hey Vale, wha''cha doing so out of breath, excited to sleep that much?" Rohnen joked but I wasn''t in the mood. I gasped for air and then asked "Wheres Vadela?" "She disappeared during the event, I guess she was adopted since I couldn''t find her ever since" Rohnen shrugged and opened a comic book. "No.....no... no no no no.... " I exclaimed and grabbed my things and started to run. "Hey where are you going in such a hurry, calm down" "I can''t.... Rohnen today the event was to showcase our work ethic..." "Yeah so what?" "You don''t understand, the people today.... they wanted the most able-bodied people, because .... .because...... they." "Get to the point already, i don''t have all night". I fell to the ground and stared at the floor, all fight in me just dispersed. "Slave traders...... the people we were giving food and helped out were slave traders" "wait wait, hold up.... you mean" "Vadela was bought by them" and my exhausted body fell out under me and I crashed to the floor and blacked out.
