《Survive The Chaos》 Prologue: Life is peaceful The world is extremely peaceful. What you don''t think so? Oh you must be thinking about the wars that are going on in some other country. But let me ask you this, if the world truly wasn''t peaceful then how can I just be one of the many people casually walking in a mall just because there is nothing better to do than shop and wander. Oh by the way my name is Lance a college student at the age of 21. I was bored at my dorm so my friends thought it would be fun to explore our newly built mall and see if there is anything going around. So far not so much. I don''t understand how people believe just window shopping and walking around a crowded building is fun. "Hey what do you think you are doing!!" Well it wasn''t that interesting until now and this is just only a tiny bump in the peaceful world right now. "Are you an idiot do you know how much this shirt cost!" "I''m Sorry!!" Right now a man bumped into a very pompous rich kid with what seems to be Japanese food or maybe Chinese. Well all I know is that there is a big soy sauce stain. "Hey you are gonna need to pay me $500 for compensation for this shirt." "What 500 dollars, there is no way I can pay that much!!!" "Hey knock it off it was an accident and besides you can just have it washed. There is no need to make it sound like such a big deal." Love what you''re reading? Discover and support the author on the platform they originally published on. And here we go one of the many people in the crowd watching what is going on is being the good guy while everyone else cowers in fear of the rich kid. This is a good example of why this peace is boring because no matter where you go it is good vs. evil. Its like people have to do actions that coincide with the seven deadly sins or the seven virtues to find pleasure and satisfaction with themselves. Oh what about me. Let just say I feel like a bystander to the ways of life of the average Joe. I find no interest in what people normally call fun and so far that makes me feel that life is just nothing but boring. Even some of my so called friends even joke and say that I am probably not human and came from a different world to study about humans just to lose my memories when I arrived. "Hey Lance, let''s go this isn''t any of our business." "OK Kyle, I am coming" I said nonchalantly. I then turn to my friends and walk away listening as the sounds of the argument get softer and softer. I sigh. "When will I ever find something that will actually interest me in this world." I said to myself. "What was that Lance." Kyle said. "Nothing. Absolutely nothing." I said. Who knew that on that same day not only would I find my answer but almost die finding out as well. Chapter 1: The World Evolves
Hello, Mortals, I am God. You humans have been living in a state of constant peace and it is boring and sickening. You have forgotten what it feels like to have true strength and so, I will help you remember. The peaceful world that you now live in will cease to exist. Only through struggling on the line between life and death will people truly evolve. You humans will have the chance to become beings of absolute power. However. since the weak needs to be eliminated, the first day will be different from the rest. You have 10 minutes, so do your best to survive.
Lance blinked a few times after the odd message played through his brain. He was just about to enjoy a nap, one of the few things that he can actually enjoy in his life, and now it was interrupted by a weird message. Lance got out of bed and walked through his dorm to see if there was anyone else who just got that weird message. He looked around and some people had a confused look on their face while others appeared deathly afraid. Well, that answers my question. Maybe I should go look outside to see if there are any changes... Lance first went to the bathroom to wash up a little. You don''t know when the next time you will be able to wash your face casually with a possible apocalypse coming. Lance then proceeded to wash his face and then he looked at himself in the mirror. There he saw his a bit above average looks with his brown eyes and black short hair going over his forehead. Lance didn''t really have any complaints about his looks, because even though he wasn''t drop dead gorgeous, he would still be called handsome here and there. Hey, it could be a lot worse... Lance then walked outside to see if there is anything that is changed, but when he walked outside nothing appeared to be different. "Hmm, so I''m pretty sure God is not one to bluff, especially as that is the first time anyone has even heard his voice, but I don''t see anything." Lance said to himself as he was deep in thought. Lance then remembered that God said that the human race had 10 minutes to prepare. The only problem was how was he supposed to prepare. He didn''t even know what he was going to have to deal with. He started thinking about everything he heard from God''s message but he just couldn''t analyze it. How on earth was he supposed to understand how God thought. For all he knew, God could produce a disease that wipes out a certain percentage of people or just spawn random volcanoes. I rather take my chances with the volcanoes. I''m pretty sure I can outrun that. Well, there is not much I can do but gather supplies. I should probably go back to my room for the food and water I have. Lance then went back into the dorm and there he finally saw it. The thing he has never seen ever since he was born into this peaceful world. A little bit of Chaos. People were moving in a hurry, some were holding backpacks and looking for friends. Some people were having arguments about things like leadership and food. There were also people who were just stealing from others and using the panic to their advantage. But, even though people were doing different things, most of them all had the same look on their face. That look was fear. Looking at the situation, Lance finally realized something weird. Just moments ago he heard a message from God himself about how the human race is going to struggle and perish and he wasn''t acting afraid. That thought alone scared Lance more than he ever felt in his entire life. Lance realized that he himself has been too used to peace and if he kept keeping this mindset he could die. No, he would die. God even said that the weak will be destroyed. That means that if he kept nonchalantly thinking about this situation then he would 100% die. With that thought, Lance didn''t hesitate to run to his dorm and get his backpack and start filling it with water bottles and snacks. Lance didn''t know if he was lucky or unlucky. Right now it was Saturday and he was the only one of his roommates who stayed at Campus. His roommates had gone home for the entire weekend and he wasn''t supposed to see them until Monday. Now all the food in the room was his, however, he didn''t have many friends because of his personality, so he was going to be alone for what ever lies ahead of him. Lance has two roommates. He likes to think of them as the devil and the angel on his shoulder. Kyle, one of his roommates was a hard worker and his grades were amazing. He was somewhat of a goody two shoes, especially when it came to studying. But that was only because he came from a well off family and had a reputation to uphold. Apparently, Kyle''s family owns one of the leading enterprises in technology. Derek, his other roommate, on the hand was the opposite. Lance wasn''t even sure why he came to college, because all he did was party and flirt with girls. There is also the thing that money and power means more to him than anything. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. That was one of the reasons why Lance always felt like a bystander. Those two would always try to pull him to their own side and tell Lance to be more like them and argue about with each other constantly. However, even though they did this, Lance truly felt them to be the closest people he had in this life. Even more than his own family. He could only wish they would survive and meet up during whatever they about to experience. Lance quickly gathered his things and ran out of his room where he met more chaos. When Lance was even trying to leave his room someone ran straight into him. "Hey, watch it!" the random guy said. "You were the one running without looking." Lance said said as he was looking at the rude guy. Lance knew who this person was. His name was Garrett Stryker, and even before the chaos he would act like he was king and everyone was just someone to step on. Lance didn''t even usually give these kinds of guys a second look usually, however, this time Garrett seemed to be extra obnoxious. "What did you say!? I go where I want to go and anyone in my way has to either move or get thrashed." Garrett said a bit pissed. Ah, these types always try to act like the tough guy. They have have to make themselves seem important or else their world will have no meaning and end. Wait, isn''t the world ending anyways!? Lance thought to himself. "Garrett, shouldn''t you be going? I am pretty sure we only have a minute till we''re dead." said Lance. "Shit, I forgot. And you will probably die, but I definitely will survive and become a god." said Garrett arrogantly as he ran off. Lance then started to move on his way outside. He then felt something he hasn''t felt in a long time. He felt his blood pumping and his heart racing. Lance was shocked. He hasn''t felt this way since he was a child. He definitely felt afraid, but the other emotion he felt was excitement. Excited, why did he feel like that? Maybe because he probably won''t feel bored anymore. Lance then shook his head as he ran back outside. What is wrong with me? I shouldn''t be thinking of this like a game. As he was thinking, Lance heard a noise. The noise that will forever change his and everyone''s life. *ding*
Hello, Humans, its God again. Well, I hope you''re prepared. Ah, probably not, but hey, that is what surviving is. You are never truly prepared for what is coming your way. Try not to die, because for the next 24 hours it will be the utter Annihilation of your race. You probably won''t hear from me again, but I will be watching.
What Lance saw next was nothing he would or could ever expect. He would never forget this moment for the rest of his life. Cracks. Giant cracks appeared everywhere he could see. Some high in the sky, some all along the ground, some just floating feet off the ground... Sweat started to drip from Lance''s forehead as the cracks constantly appeared and the amount were far to numerous. Then, before Lance could even think or react, the cracks started to open and grow wider. When you looked inside of them you would see a world made out of purple and it looked like the purple world inside was constantly swirling. A person would get sick just looking at it. But more than the sickening feeling, you would get the feeling of fear. Like when someone is afraid of the dark or precisely the possible unknown lurking in the dark. "What the absolute hell!?" Lance said to himself. Lance then watched as what could only be described as gruesome and ugly monsters came out of those spacial distortions. There were different kinds of monsters. The first kind of monsters were flying abominations that came out of the cracks in the sky. They were like pterodactyls but with one eye, green feathers. Also, they are huge, like the size of a car. What came out of the ground were what can be simply described as giant worms with teeth. Lots and lots of giant worms with teeth. They started to burrow into the ground and traveling in all sorts of directions. Then, the last group were made up of some giant muscular monsters wearing what appeared to be animal and they wielded different weapons like hammers and spiked maces and there was also a lot of skinny monsters with long hair and scythes for fingers. Out of all the things that could have happened during the apocalypse, Lance never imagined that monsters would spawn to end them. It was like something out of a fantasy game which was supposed to be impossible. Just by having these monsters spawn is like saying that truly nothing is impossible in the new world. God can literally do whatever he wants and the humans can do nothing about it. Why couldn''t God just send a bunch of meteors to kill us like the dinosaurs. Maybe then they could have had a fighting chance by fleeing underground. No, God just had to make it so that humans know that at this moment in time, they are no longer the top of the food chain. But still...What the fuck!? When God says Annihilation, he sticks with it to the definition. Chapter 2: The Mind Evolves

Lance couldn''t even focus long enough to study the screen that all of a sudden appeared in front of him. As soon as he got control of himself he immediately ran away. Run. Run. Run. Run. RUN. RUN. RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN! All he could think about was to run as fast as he could, away from all the dangers around him. "I must survive! I must survive!! I must survive!!!" Lance constantly said to himself. All around him was just constant destruction and fear. The monster were quickly picking off humans wherever he looked. The birds would dive and either pick up a person or just land and eat them whole, not even giving a chance for the person to react. The worms were even more frightening. The only way you knew they were coming was from the rumbling of the earth before they come out from beneath you. Then there were the skinny monsters with scythes for fingers just running around slicing people like they were made out of paper. Then giants were not only intimidating from the size, but their power could easily crush cars and the people inside them. The ferocity and frequency of the killing were not even the worst part of it. The giant and skinny monsters were basically acting like this entire slaughter was nothing more than a game. But I guess that is what you expect from a force that can''t even fight back. It is like how humans are bugs and we are now the ones being squashed. Talk about karma. The laughter from the monsters played in Lance''s head over and over again. It was enough for any man to lose their sanity. Nightmares will definitely plague those who survive for years to come. While Lance was running, he heard a particular blood curdling scream that made him stop and look at the source. When Lance looked, he immediately recognized who it was. It was Garrett, running from one of the giants, or at least trying to. Garrett had just been cornered and he has been screaming for help when the giant crushed him, causing him to scream. Garrett had fear and pain all over his face and the giant was just laughing as he picked up Garrett and started to slowly torture him. Lance couldn''t help but watch, as he saw Garrett''s limbs get crushed one by one, following with the most soul shattering screams Lance had ever heard. The giant finally got bored and crushed him, ending Garrett suffering. Lance couldn''t help but shudder at he looked at the beast more closely, when all of a sudden he noticed a box above the monster''s head.
Mountain Troll lvl 30
What the hell!? These things have levels! What, is this some sort of game? Lance couldn''t help but think to himself. Then Lance remembered the screen he saw before and opened up his status before starting to run again. He noticed he was only lvl 1. "What!?!?!? Are you serious!? these things are way too strong and over powered!" Lance couldn''t help but exclaim out loud. Hearing Lance, the mountain troll turned around. It then looked directly at Lance and grinned. Lance couldn''t help but shudder in fear. The mountain troll then roared as it started to charge at Lance. It gripped it''s hammer as it was ready to squash Lance like a pancake. Lance quickly got control of himself and dived to the side as the hammer just barely missed him. He did however get a few scratches just from the pressure of the blow. I can not let that thing even touch me, otherwise even if I manage to get away, it will be with broken bones. There would be no way I would survive the rest of the day, Lance thought to himself. The troll started to growl. It seemed a bit upset that Lance got away. Lance then picked himself up and immediately started to run. The troll quickly chased after Lance in a furious rage. There was no way it would let a single prey escape from him. Lance was quite lucky that the troll was naturally slow, as it couldn''t catch up to him. However Lance soon understood he couldn''t rest for even a bit, because this beast had a lot more stamina than he did. If he couldn''t find away to lose this troll, he would become just like Garrett. There was no way he would let that happen. As he was being chased down the street of campus, one of the large birds appeared in front of him.
Nycor lvl 25
Lance didn''t really understand what he just saw. When he saw monsters, he assumed they came out of a fairy tale or something. But seeing the name of the monster showed him that maybe there is more to this than he thought. Lance quickly recovered himself from his state of mind because he remembered something incredibly important. He was currently running for his life!!!!!! The troll roared in anger as it hated the fact that it couldn''t catch up to Lance. The roar then caught the attention of the Nycor in front. The Nycor then proceeded to dive at Lance. Lance immediately felt trapped. If he would dive to avoid the bird he would stop in his tracks. Then the troll would catch him. Lance then saw a skinny alleyway just up ahead. It would be able to fit him and maybe the monsters wouldn''t be able to chase him. He then used all the strength in his legs to dive into the area. Unfortunately, it was littered with garbage, including broken bottle, so he got scratches all over his body. But hey, it was better than the alternative. The Nycor and the troll then collided since they were coming for the same prey from different angles. They then proceeded to fight, mostly because the troll was already angry and this bird just got in his way, causing his prey to escape. Lance immediately picked himself up and proceed to move down the alley and turn the corner so he could take a break. He needed to remove pieces of glass from his shoulder and side or else the wound could get worse. The process was painful but he knew that it was necessary. He was just fortunate enough that his legs didn''t get injured. If he couldn''t run, he couldn''t survive. Lance checked out his status and he notice something that caused his heart to stop for a second. His stamina which had a max of 50, was now only at 10. If he just kept on running, then he would have ran out of stamina. He did not want to think about what would happen if he ran out of stamina. His health only went down by 15 so that was fine, but now he has to be even more careful than before. Lance quickly rested since he was safe for the moment, but he knew he wouldn''t be safe for long. If one of those skinny monsters found him, he will have only a little chance to survive. Unlike the trolls, they were fast. The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. It took 4 minutes for his stamina to recharge. It apparently replenished 10 points per minute. Lance recorded the time using his phone. Information can be the difference between life and death. Lance proceeded to walk carefully through the alleyway. He saw a couple people cowering in a dumpster, but other than that there was nothing. He reached the end of the alley. He carefully peeked his head out and looked around. He saw a troll chasing a group of people and one of those skinny guys clawing a man.
Sharp-Fingered Psycho lvl 20
Now Lance really did not like that name. If he could, he would make sure to avoid those the most at all cost. Even if they were lower level than everything he has seen so far, Lance knew they were probably the most unpredictable. Lance then had an idea. He could avoid most of the monsters if he went into a building. A building didn''t have that much space to run but with monsters all over the streets, it would still probably be safer. Lance then looked and saw that the recreational center was the closest building to him. He knew it quite well since Derek always went there to pump iron. He always said that ladies like a nice body. Lance then slipped into the recreational center. He could now stop and think about everything that has happened so far. Lance went into the most secure place he knew in that building, which was the locker room that had multiple exits. Some paths into the gym, while others went into the track or swimming pool. Lance understands himself very well. He knows that his best trait is his ability to analyze anything. It is the very reason why he feels like a bystander in the world. He analyzes everything and thinks about them to such a critical level that they appear insignificant in the overall picture, like petty arguments. God says that he wants us to understand what it means to get stronger and to have the ability to survive. I understand the survive part, but how are we supposed to get stronger if we are treated like toys? Lance thought. Lance then remembered how God said that today is going to be different from the rest of his new system. Yea, today was meant to kill off the weak, whatever that means. Lance started to get a headache as he kept thinking of the different ways of being weak, like intelligence wise, strength wise, and all other different ways. This was the first time his gift truly backfired on him, but how was he supposed to understand what God wants of him? Lance decided to stop thinking about it so deeply and to just try to survive for the first 24 hours. But how is he supposed to do that if there are literally monsters everywhere? All of a sudden, a couple of people barged into the locker room. Apparently Lance wasn''t the only one who had that idea. They appeared to be a set of two men and two women. "Are we finally safe?" one of the girls said. "I don''t know. I just don''t know." said one of the guys. They looked as afraid as one would expect when facing an apocalypse, but Lance didn''t like the situation. He all of a sudden had a bad feeling. As he was thinking this, the ground started to rumble. Lance then finally realized his mistake. For the locker room to be able to link up to different areas, had to be underground... "Shit!!! Get up the stairs!" Lance yelled, however it was already too late. A giant worm appeared below the group and one of the girls was immediately swallowed whole while one of the guys had his arm torn off.
Devourer lvl 25
Lance immediately ran straight up the stairs and thought the fact that he was truly fortunate right now. If it was just him, he would have no way of getting away from the worm. But because there were more people closer together, the worm picked them off first. Lance mind went under a change at that moment. The experience of being so close to death made him realized he needed to change how he thought. Instead of constantly thinking about the big picture, he needs to focus all of his thoughts on each moment because any moment can be his last. Lance then focused his entire mind on his senses and his body. His eyes watching everywhere at all times. His ears listening to the slightest noise, to give him the extra time to react. His touch feeling for the slightest abnormal vibration coming from the ground. Any information that could be considered useful he would grasp as soon as could. The only thing that ever passed trough his head was Survive. Lance went up the next flight of stairs, this area was usually where they had classes for the students majoring in Health and Fitness. However, Lance did not go into any of the classrooms. It would be a great hiding spot but if he was found by anything, then he would be cornered with no way out. He just stood away from the stairs, next to a wall so he didn''t have to use as much energy standing plus he could move in any direction as soon as possible. Lance took this time to just focus on his senses. It was a huge mental strain to constantly focus and he needed to get used it. If there was anyone who could see him, they would immediately think he was the paranoid type. He decided to move to the window. Even though the scene outside was gruesome, he needed to focus on it, get used to it, only then will he be able to fight with his full strength in the future. He went to the side of the window and peered carefully outside. He focused his hearing on the stairs while using his vision outside. He watched as people were getting picked off one by one. It was truly a gruesome scene, but Lance forced himself to watch, to observe. During this process, he noticed a few things. The psychos were truly quick and had two methods of attacking, slicing and piercing. He also noticed that when trolls attacked with their hands, it was slower than with their hammer, it must must be for the enjoyment of feeling bones breaking and their prey suffering. Lance focused for 10 minutes just on the destruction and cruelty going on outside. But to Lance, every second felt like minutes and every minute felt like hours. Each one of those seconds he could not stop focusing on the monsters. If they ever let their guard down, their weakness would be shown and he must learn of it. 10 more minutes passed and Lance all of a sudden heard a couple of noises. *ding* *ding*

Wait, What!? Chapter 3: The Body Evolves
Analyze Beginner lvl 1-0% By constantly observing every little detail of your enemy for a period of time You have gained the ability to see the weaknesses of your enemy. A higher level of information requires a higher skill level.
Lance blinked a few times, looking at the screen that popped up. I guess this is one of the ways to get stronger in this new world, Lance thought. He read his new skill closely, but didn''t really know what it meant. Lance then looked outside again and saw another Psycho. "Analyze." Lance said. However when he looked he couldn''t really see anything. Does this thing have no weakness, or is it too much stronger than me for me to see it? It could also be that it is too far away, Lance thought. Well, he didn''t really know what it did, but it probably wasn''t useless...hopefully. Lance then decided that he would figure it out tomorrow, focusing on something he didn''t understand was in no way useful right now. While he was thinking, there was a loud bang and the building started to shake. Sweat dripped down Lance''s forehead as he looked outside to see what was going on. He then saw a troll looking straight at him, the troll had swung his hammer creating a crack along the building. It apparently wanted to destroy it along with Lance. "Well, so much for not being discovered" Lance said to himself. He knew this building was no longer safe. Once that beast breaks down the wall, then all hell will let loose through this building. Lance then ran towards the stairs to descend. When he started to go down the stairs, he heard people start screaming. He then went down the stairs even faster while other people were running past him and bumping into him. "Move, we got to get away!! We got to get away!!" One of them screamed. Lance could only hope he wasn''t too late descending from the stairs. He then reached the bottom, where he saw the wall farthest from him wide open. The troll was laughing and two psychos took notice of what happened. The psychos started to laugh manically as they started to sprint towards the recreational center. Lance then sprinted straight into the door nearest to him that led to the outside. When he closed the door, the door was then pierced through by one of the psychos. Lance felt that now was the best time to run away, far away. He then looked around to see where he should run towards. When he looked around, he saw a couple of police cars moving past the street he was on. Lance didn''t know where they were going, but he felt that wherever there are people with guns, there is either a very bad situation going on there, or it will be a lot safer there. Lance decided to run in the opposite direction of the police. There was just a higher chance of them going to somewhere dangerous, and Lance had no desire to see if there is anything worse then the situation he was in now. That is a big no no. As he ran, he noticed that there was not as many spatial tears in space. There were still some, but definitely not as many as before. Maybe God decided that since humans had no way of killing them, there was no need to increase their numbers. Lance could only hope this was the answer, but it still didn''t explain why there are some still there. Lance then shook his head. No, I need to stop doing that. I need to focus on my senses to increase my chance of survival, Lance thought. But it was truly hard for Lance to stop analyzing everything. That is what he has been doing ever since he can remember. When he was young, he always heard his parents talking in the other room. They always said things like why does he have so many questions, or why is he not like the other kids. Lance''s parents always tried to tell him to stop thinking about everything and just have fun, but never could. His thinking, his understanding, his learning of how the world worked was always on his mind. If someone would ask what Lance''s favorite word is, he would say why? both as an answer to their question, as well as asking them why they wanted to know. This estranged him from his parents a bit. They were always willing to answer his questions, but they never could understand what he was thinking, and that scared them. Well, his habit ended up giving him a skill. So it wasn''t all bad. Lance found another alleyway and decided to stop to rest. He needed to keep his stamina up at all times. Who knows when he would be in a tight spot where death can swallow him at any point. Once he fully recovered, Lance decided to come up with a plan. Yes, he could continue doing the same thing for rest of the 24 hours, but then he wouldn''t be able to sleep and exhaustion would mean death in this new world. Hmm, what would be the best course of action, Lance thought. I could find a room with a lock and sleep in there... No, if one of those psychos somehow make it to me, I would be done for. I can''t go to the police station, because it would be filled with way too many people. Also, they really don''t have any way of defending them. I don''t think guns will work on these things or at least normal guns. After obtaining his new skill, Lance understood that this situation he is now in is like a game. If there are skills, there is more than likely to be monster drops, and equipment is a very known thing to be dropped by monsters. Probably if he had the strength to take down one of the mountain trolls, then he could obtain their hammer or mace or maybe something completely different. The only problem, which is a big problem, is that he does not have the strength or even a weapon to even try to take down one of those monsters. Lance decided to worry about that later, when he actually had a fighting chance. Lance opened up his backpack to get some water to drink. He needed to stay hydrated and well fed. After some delightful snacking, Lance proceeded to exit the alleyway and find somewhere safe to hide for a bit. He looked around to see if he could recognize where he was. He seemed to be close to the small marketplace that was close to campus. He looked around and he couldn''t see any trolls or psychos for some reason. Screeeeaa Lance then looked up where he saw a couple of Nycors flying above his vicinity. "Shit, I forgot about them", Lance said. He now truly had to be careful, because the Nycors clearly claimed this area as their own territory. The only reason why he was safe was because of the alley. If not, then he would probably have been noticed and picked off by one of the birds. "Wow, my thoughts are getting really depressing", Lance said as he sighed. But hey, when one could die at any second, how could anyone stay positive. Lance then waited a couple more minutes until the Nycors flew off to some place. They must have found some prey. He immediately took this chance to move. He started to sprint to the marketplace while listening and looking at his surroundings. He would let nothing sneak up on him if possible. Lance finally entered the marketplace and he was shocked. It was quiet, way too quiet compared to how it was supposed to be. Lance couldn''t see one monster in sight, he couldn''t even see any people. There was absolutely nothing going on in this marketplace. Lance started to walk very carefully while looking to see if he could see anybody. Unauthorized reproduction: this story has been taken without approval. Report sightings. He looked inside some of the buildings, but he couldn''t really see anything. The people were probably hiding away from the windows so they were not seen. Lance then saw movement in the corner of his eye. He quickly turned around to see a young man, probably close to his age. The man looked afraid and paranoid. "Hey, what is going on with this area? Why is it so quiet here?" Lance asked quietly. "I don''t know", he said. "There were monsters around before. I heard their footsteps as i was hiding in one of the buildings. One of the small ones even came in the same building as I was in. I definitely thought my life was about to end at that point. But all of a sudden, it left." It left? Lance thought. It would make sense for it to leave after it searched the building. It was definitely smart enough to look in a building, so it was probably smart enough to look more in depth. But why did it leave? "After it left, I waited to see if it would come back but it never did", the man said. "I then finally decided to find a new hiding spot, because I probably wasn''t going to be constantly lucky. But when I left, it was like this." This is very weird, Lance thought. But whatever is going on, it can not be good. This is like the calm before a storm. If before couldn''t be considered a storm, then I don''t want to see what a true storm would be like. As Lance was preparing to leave the area. It happened. The mother of all cracks appeared at the other end of the marketplace. Lance looked at it in shock and fear. It made all the other portals look insignificant, and all those giant monsters came out of those. What kind of atrocity will come out now? Also why? Lance thought. They were struggling for hours before and so many people died. Why is this crack appearing now? Lance then looked around and saw that the guy fell on his butt looking at the crack and he was shaking from fear. Oh, no. Maybe there are too many people hiding in one area, so God decided to up the difficulty a bit, Lance thought. As Lance was thinking, the crack started to open and a pair of giant hands came out of it, and started to pry the portal open. A leg then stepped out of the portal, which was followed by a head and then a body. Soon the entire being came out of the crack and the crack just stayed there, as if broken from the sheer strength of the calamity that came out of it.
Myriad The Destroyer lvl ???
Myriad is a Goliath that is taller than any building in the vicinity. He appeared to be very ancient and he was made out of stone. He had the aura of a deity and muscles of a warrior. He wielded what appeared to be a giant spear of some sort with some language circling around it. His face held no expression, but that itself was enough to send fear down a person''s spine. Lance felt an incredible amount of pressure just by being near this divine being. He wanted to run away, but when he turned around he saw that hordes of monsters were coming from the opposite direction. As he was staring at the horde that was on their way to his location, he heard a loud explosion. He turned to see that Myriad stabbed one of the building with his spear. The building then ended up crumbling in on itself and probably destroying any inhabitants that it might hold. Lance truly felt the situation he was in was utterly hopeless. On one side, he had what appeared to be some sort of demigod, while on the other side there were all the monsters that he spent hours escaping from. Lance then looked around to see if there was anything, absolutely anything, he could do to get himself out of this situation. He looked and looked, but no matter where he would go, he would meet a group of monster which would proceed to tear him inside out. Lance then looked and saw the giant tear in space that was just behind Myriad. What are you thinking, Lance. You don''t know what would happen if you went in there. You could be transported to another world or just end up dead. But, if I don''t, then there is a hundred percent chance that I will die, Lance argued with himself. ....."Fuck it" Lance said with a sigh. Lance looked at the demigod and saw that the eyes were made out of stone, so there is a chance that he could make it passed him without being noticed. Better now than ever, Lance thought. He then went and sprinted past the stranger who had passed out in fear. While hearing the roars behind him, Lance focused all of his attention on just running. Constant running. Use the rest of his energy if he needed to. He just needed to reach that tear. Myriad continued his destruction of the buildings by slashing straight through rows of them. The demigod didn''t notice Lance running towards him, or if he did, he didn''t care. Piece of concrete were falling all around him and he constantly had to dodge and roll just to avoid being crushed. When Lance rolled, he received more cuts from rocks and broken glass all over his body, but he worked through his pain and kept running. He was getting closer and closer to the tear. He had just finally passed Myriad and was just a few feet away from the barrier when, all of sudden, a psycho appeared out of the alleyway next to it. The psycho then charged at Lance swiping at him. Lance couldn''t believe it. He was so close and yet here he was about to die. No, this can''t be happening. I won''t accept it, I must Survive, I MUST SURVIVE!!!!!!! screamed Lance. He then jumped and dived towards the tear in space as the psycho manage to claw both his chest and back leaving large claw marks. Lance then entered the chaotic space with minor injuries all over his body and two major ones. Everything got quiet as if all the roaring and destruction before was nothing but a lie. However, it definitely wasn''t, because Lance''s whole body felt like it was being ripped apart. The space seemed to contain some sort of energy that was entering all the wounds in his body, causing Lance to feel pain beyond belief. Maybe because of the pain, or maybe because of his exhaustion, but Lance just constantly kept saying "I will survive. I will survive. I will survive. I will survive." He kept repeating the same line until he finally passed out from exhaustion and pain. The energy of the space still kept flowing into Lance even as he slept. His body would spasm at times from pain and go into mini seizures. After hours of constant energy flow, Lance''s body stopped it''s spasm and now his minor wounds were actually closing up and healing. The claw marks however were even weirder, as they were no longer open wounds on his body but actually tattoos that were moving on his body into a design. Lance entire body then begun to shine bright purple and condense around Lance like a cocoon. The cocoon then proceeded to float in that chaotic space for hours on end, never changing in anyway. Hours upon hours passed by and soon a full two days passed before any changes to the cocoon appeared. On the second day, the cocoon finally proceed to crack and then burst into particles of energy, which then proceeded to flow into Lance''s body. Lance was still sleeping calmly, not noticing the changes his body just went through. He floated for another hour until a tear in space opened up near his body. Lance then proceeded to float into the tear and the tear then vanished just as fast as it appeared. Chapter 4: Chaos is Born Lance opened his eyes slowly. Looking up, all he saw was a plain white ceiling. Lance blinked a couple of times before it finally hit him. His body shot up as he looked around to see where he was. When he looked around all he could see was that he was in a bathroom of some sort. It was like everything he just went through was only a bad dream, except, he couldn''t explain why he was in the bathroom. The last thing he could remember was that he was immersed in the worst pain he ever felt in his life when he jumped through the tear in space. Lance then realized something peculiar, he wasn''t in any pain. Actually, he felt better than he ever felt before. It was like he was reborn anew. He felt incredibly fresh and powerful. Lance then looked at his body to see if he could see any cuts, but when he looked down he noticed that his skin was deathly pale. This shocked Lance tremendously. It is not like he was white and turned whiter... He was a dark tan before and now he went past white and went pale. Though it wasn''t sickly pale. Lance then quickly went to the mirror and that is when he saw it. His skin changing was actually the least surprising feature on his face. His hair, which was as black as it could be, was now completely white with what appeared to be a black jagged streak going diagonal from just above his left eye, moving upwards and to the right. His eyes though, were what drew most of Lance''s attention. His left eye''s pupil was red while his right eye''s was purple. It was like his face had no symmetry, no order. If anyone who had OCD looked at him, they would be driven absolutely crazy. Lance couldn''t believe his looks. He then looked closer at his body and that is when he saw it. Not only was his chest perfectly toned with abs and pecs. There was a dark purple tattoo on his chest. It was comprised of 8 arrows all intersecting each other in the middle, creating a perfect symmetry. Lance was completely and utterly stunned. He couldn''t process what had happened to him. He didn''t know how, he didn''t know why, and he didn''t what had happened to him. There was just so many questions that he had. It took a couple of minutes for the shock to wear off and for Lance to wake up from his trance. "OK, so a lot more happened to me than I thought it did." Lance said to himself. He was constantly thinking about everything that had happened when he noticed something in the corner of his eye. It was like a blinking icon with the symbol of an exclamation point. Lance was a bit hesitant clicking on the icon, but there was a chance that it had the answers he so desperately wanted to know. Plus, if he didn''t click it, it would bug him for the rest of his life. Lance then slowly went and touched the exclamation point. All of sudden, a whole bunch of panels flooded Lance''s view.

Lance read every little detail carefully and was stunned again. From what Lance could understand, he was no longer human. Somehow he evolved with chaos. Lance''s brain was a jumbled mess as he still couldn''t understand how all of this happened to him. And what was with The Lucky Idiot title? I understand that I could have possibly died from the chaos, but it was still a better chance of survival than the monster horde and demigod, Lance thought to himself. Lance could only shake his head and sigh. He was just made fun of by God. Apparently, Lance became one of God''s shows. God must be really bored. What a childish person, Lance thought. Lance then heard noise that woke him up from his train of thought. *ding* ....I really hate that noise...Lance thought.

Lance blinked as he looked at the message. It was definitely flattering, but its message was pretty clear. Lance is not going to have an easy future. "Ugh!!" Lance said as a headache was growing. Lance then clicked to receive the mysterious box. The box then appeared out of thin air, tightly wrapped like a present. "I wonder what could God possibly send to me. Is it an equipment, a skill?" Lance said to himself. Lance then went and opened the lid of the box. All of a sudden, something sprung out of the box. It appeared to be a creepy blue jack-in-the-box holding what looked like knives. Lance jumped in surprise and fear, and before he could even react, the thing went and used one of the knives to slice open a cut on the palm of his hand. "Ow!!" Lance yelled as he flinched and jumped back. God is either a petty person and doesn''t like being wrong in estimations or this is revenge for thinking he is childish. Lance then looked and noticed something weird. His blood was floating out of the wound and another thing, his blood was purple. Lance couldn''t possibly believe it could get weirder than this, but he was sadly mistaken. His blood then started to coat the Jack in the box. It then started to morph into what seemed to be a small person made of a purple blood. The purple blood then started to transform into a young boy. The young boy looked just like Lance, however the eye colors were switched and the clothes were different. The young boy was wearing a blue jacket with a black undershirt and jeans and sneakers. Once all the blood seemed to completely changed into the boy, the floating boy then looked at Lance and smiled. "Hi, big brother. My name is Chao, nice to meet you. Looking forward to working with you from now on." Well, so much for not getting weirder. Lance looked at the kid smiling without a care in the world and he sighed. He has been awake for 10 minutes and he was already mentally exhausted. "Alright... One, who are you? Two, what are you? Three, what is going on?" Lance said to Chao. "Hehe, I thought you might be confused. So let me explain this to you." Chao said cheerfully. "I am your familiar and also your brother. Since I was made from your blood, you and I are linked. We will be able to see through each others eyes and if you die, I die. Other than you dying though, I am pretty much unkillable. Don''t get me wrong, I will die on my own, but I will always come back, you can never get rid me. Hehe." Lance looked at his status and saw his new trait.
Bond of the familiar(Chao) You and your familiar, Chao, have an unseen special connection. Effect: Able to share viewpoints with each other. Chao will not truly die until you die. When Chao dies, he will respawn in 24 hours. You are able to speak telepathically with your familiar.
Lance felt this was going to be a headache. He now had a little follower and this follower had the spirit of a child, but the intellect of an adult. Such a nightmarish combination. "Hey, I heard that!" Chao exclaimed. Lance looked at him and said, "So I have no privacy what so ever anymore." "Nope." Chao said and smiled. "Great, just great... Well, my life is going to be an absolute hell." Lance said in anguish. "It won''t be an absolute hell, it will just be chaotic." Chao said and laughed. Oh, yeah, this is gonna suck, Lance thought. "You''ll get used it", Chao said. "Now let me explain your third question. I am going to be your helper. God assumed that the humans would slowly get stronger and form groups and get classes in places like npc villages that God set up all over the world." Npc villages, huh. Well, looks like I just have more questions, Lance thought. "However, you are no longer human."Chao continued. "That means the you are no longer in that system. So you would gain nothing from being in an npc village. Actually, it would be the exact opposite. You would be in danger." A bead of sweat fell down his forehead when he heard that. He now understood the severity of the situation. He can''t form groups with other humans, so he is basically fighting against this new world by himself. "Wait, what day is it? Did 24 hours already pass? What is the situation outside?", Lance said. He truly wanted to know everything he possibly could. "Hey, don''t interrupt me. I was going to get to that." Chao yelled angrily. "Now, where was I...? Oh, yes! That is another reason why I am here. I am basically the chaos form of a mage. God saw that you had the willpower stat, so he believed the best course for you to take was of a warrior of some sort. So I will act as your mage/healer." "Makes sense", Lance nodded. He truly didn''t give it any thought, but hearing it out loud, it truly did make sense. "So, are you constantly conversing with God?" Lance said to Chao. "No, he only gave me the basic of the basic information. Like a tutorial." Chao said, "After I explain to you everything I know, we will be on the same level of understanding." Well, damn. It seemed this was not going to be easy, Lance thought. "Not necessarily. If you didn''t notice, your base stats are a lot higher after you evolved. Also, the evolution from human to anything is the hardest, and you have already passed it. So every time you evolve your base stats will just get stronger." "Wait, I will evolve even more?" Lance then looked at his status and he saw that next to his race there is a G rank. So that''s what that means, Lance thought. "Yep. I don''t know to what rank your evolution will go, but when you evolve, I evolve. So figure out how to evolve quicker", Chao commanded. Oh, yeah, this thing was going to be a headache, Lance thought. "I can still hear you, you know."Chao said. "Whatever, continue with you story", Lance said. "What''s the magic word?" Chao exclaimed. "Are you serious?" Lance said. Chao then nodded. "Fine, please." "Ok. So, as I was saying, you are much stronger than most human, especially with your new titles. I don''t really know how the world has changed since the two days you have been asleep... But all I do know is that there are crowds and crowds of low level beast to fight first, with some higher level ones mixed in." "TWO DAYS!?!?!?", Lance was shocked. He could not even tell that that much time has passed. "Yep, you were clonked out. Now, I believe that is it for your tutorial. So in summary, stay away from humans, I am your little helper, and let''s go kick some ass." Chao said while raising his arm in triumph. "I don''t understand you. You make me say please like a child, but you say ''let''s kick some ass'' like it''s nothing." Lance said. "Hey! We''re made out of chaos, we have no patterns. You will learn soon enough." Chao said with an innocent smile. Chapter 5: Time to Hunt "Alright then, big bro. Lets Go!!!!", Chao said while raising his fist. Chao started to float to the door when Lance asked him another question. "Hey, do you know what this Analyze skill does?" Chao stopped and looked at Lance. "What are you? Stupid? Doesn''t it tell you what it does? When you are fighting with an enemy, use it and you can see his weak points. I don''t know what it does in higher levels though", Chao said. Ah, it only works during fighting. That''s why it wouldn''t work when I tried to use it at long distance, Lance thought to himself. "Alright. If that is all, I think we should get going." Chao said while wagging a finger at Lance. "Even though you are stronger than most humans, you are technically behind them in levels by a day or two, because of your long nap." "Alright, alright. Let''s go then. I need to find a weapon." Lance said while looking around. He couldn''t see anything useful because well they were in a bathroom. Lance walked out of the bathroom while Chao floated closely behind. When Lance left the bathroom, he immediately recognized where he was. He was in one of the school buildings. It was the business building called Grove Hall. Weird, I wonder how I got here from that weird place, Lance thought. Lance had absolutely no recollection of what happened when he was asleep. Lance started to look around when Chao yelled and pointed, "Hey, look! There is something you can fight against."
Hungry Wolf lvl 5
Lance looked at it and then looked back at Chao. "How am supposed to fight it without a weapon? Things could get dangerous if it bites me." "Just go in and fight it. Stop being a wuss. A weapon isn''t just going to fall into your lap. Ya got to go earn it." Chao exclaimed. Lance then sighed in defeat. Unfortunately, Chao was right. He can''t expect to find a weapon at a college building. The only way he could find one is by fighting, and hope that one happens to fall from a monster. "You''ll learn that I am usually always right", Chao said as he struck a proud looking pose. Having this guy in my head is going to take some getting used to. Lance sighed in an annoyed tone and then started to run towards the wolf. The wolf then turned and looked at Lance and as soon as it saw him, it immediately started to salivate profusely. It was about to charge at what it hoped to be it''s meal, when Lance had already arrived at the wolf. Lance then kicked it''s chest like he was punting a football and Lance then heard cracks and a yelp from the wolf as it was sent flying towards the wall. Lance was shocked at how far the wolf flew from just a kick of his. The wolf started to rise, but it was quite apparent that it was struggling to breathe. Lance then decided that this was a great time to use his Analyze skill. Lance used his skill and then immediately saw a difference in the wolf. There was now a yellow circle on it''s chest and a smaller yellow circle on it''s neck. The wolf was completely afraid, as it peered into Lance''s eyes. Before, it''s hunger made him act without fear, but now that he was injured, he noticed how dangerous the individual was in front of him. The hungry wolf tried to start to walk away slowly as it was in too much pain to run. However, Lance then ran to block it. He was not letting his first prey escape. I guess if I kick it in the same place, it would increase the damage, Lance thought to himself. Lance then ran up and kicked the wolf and this time he could clearly feel the wolf''s chest caving in on itself. After it hit the wall again it didn''t breathe anymore. Blue light then floated from the wolf and went into Lance. He was amazed by the spectacle when all of a sudden Chao floated into his view. "Hey, come on! Check him! What are you waiting for? There could be goodies to use." Chao said excitingly. Lance then nodded and looked around the wolf to see if there was anything amazing. What he found appeared to be a couple of bronze coins and some wolf teeth. There was absolutely nothing special. "Damn it, I didn''t expect a weapon, but I was still hoping for something", Lance said annoyed. "Your luck is just not good enough." Chao said with a shrug. "What do you mean by my luck isn''t good enough? It is one of the highest stats I have", Lance yelled. "Well, all you can do is kill some more and hope to get somethin", Chao said with a sigh. Lance then started to look around frantically for anything to kill. This was the complete opposite scenario from a couple of days ago, but all that goes to show you that only the strong can do what they want. Lance started to run down the hall while Chao flew closely behind. When Lance just reached the corner, he saw a couple more hungry wolves. Found you, Lance thought to himself. The wolves seemed to notice Lance at the same time he noticed them because they started to run in his direction. Just like the last wolf, they were salivating crazily as it was their hunger that drove them to attack ferociously. Lance activated Analyze and he saw the yellow marks on their neck appear. He decided to use this skill as much as possible, because it can only become even more useful for him. Lance waited for the wolves to get close before he decided to attack. The wolves soon arrived a few feet in front of him, in which they jumped to pounce on him. Lance quickly sidestepped to the right and punched the closest wolf in the jaw sending it at the other wolf. A couple of teeth broke off the wolf''s jaw when it was hit and yelped in pain as they were sent flying. The wolves fell to the ground, but they quickly picked themselves up. They seemed to be enraged at this point, because they split up from each other and lunged at Lance from two different directions. Lance manage to hit one in the chest with a kick. However, the other was able to bite his arm when Lance blocked with it instinctively. This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report. The pain was quite intense, as the teeth of the canine pierced through his skin and the purple blood started to drip out. The blood then entered the wolf''s mouth, and the face of the wolf changed. It immediately let go of Lance and started to tremble uncontrollably. It then proceeded to bang it''s head on the wall continuously. Lance didn''t let this chance escape, and he ran and kicked the wolf into the wall. When it bounced off the wall he kicked it again finishing it off. Lance then heard a growl, and when he looked at the source, he was then met with a bite to the leg. "Ow!!!" Lance yelled in pain. "You stupid mutt", Lance said as he kicked the wolf''s chest again, killing it. The blue light flew from the two wolves and into Lance. Lance expected level up from the monsters, but nothing happened. He looked at his status and saw he was still level one. Looks like leveling is going to take awhile, Lance thought. God sure made getting stronger not as easy as he thought. "Nah, that is only for you." Chao snickered and said. "For being an evolved being, naturally you''re stronger already. So leveling is going to take more experience." "Well, that''s annoying." Lance said. Not only is he by himself in dealing will all these monsters, but he gets stronger slower as well. "Just suck it up. Even though you had a little trouble with the wolves, you still handled them quite easily." Chao said. "But anyways, you are really stupid and careless, getting a bit hurt by a couple of wolves with your strength." "Shut up! I am still not used to fighting." Lance yelled back as he started to rub his wounds. "By the way, why did the wolf start acting like that?", Lance asked. "Probably because of the chaos energy in your system. It is enough to make any creature go insane if ingested, and your blood is practically made out of that stuff." Chao explained. Lance nodded as he understood. He then looked at the two beasts that caused him so much trouble. Lance kicked one of the bodies aside and he noticed something shining on the ground. Hmm, what is this? Lance bent down and picked up the shiny object he saw. It appeared to be a ring of some sort, but he couldn''t tell what it does. "Oh, that''s an interesting find." Chao said floating and looking over Lance''s shoulder. "You can tell me what this is?" Lance said questionably at Chao. "What? Oh, I forgot you don''t have the identification skill, because you weren''t in this world when the 24 hours ran out. God gave it as a gift to the survivors." Chao said. Chao then went up to Lance and touched his forehead with a glowing purple light. *ding*
Identify Basic skill to identify monsters and items.
"You can give skills!?!?!?" Lance looked at Chao shockingly. This little kid just got a 1000 times more useful. "No, I can''t. You were supposed to have this skill in the first place, so i was able to give it to you." Chao explained. "It is imperative to have, since it shows a monster''s health and status effects. How else are you supposed to use your skills strategically?" "Oh, that makes sense." Lance said while nodding. Lance then looked at the ring again and used Identify.
Ring of Famine (normal) Those who are hungry will gain a sudden burst of energy to survive, to feast. Effect: Once Hunger reaches 20, agility +5.
"Well, this ring isn''t that useful. I thought you said it was useful." Lance said to Chao. A ring that only works when he is hungry means that he would need to be in an uncomfortable state just to gain beneficial effects. "No, I never said useful. I said interesting." Chao said while laughing. Lance shook his head annoyed. Lance put on the ring and moved to the other wolf that he killed. Hopefully, the drop from this wolf would be better than the other one. Lance moved the body and there he saw something nice. A little vial of red liquid and set of black leather boots. Lance knew he hit the jack pot this time. Lance first looked a the vial of red liquid. If this was what he thought it was, then this game-like world has just become a lot better.
Lesser Health Potion Heals 50 hp
"Yep, a health potion", Lance said out loud. He was quite happy with this find. A health potion was the difference between life and death, which was quite possible in this world. "Big deal, a health potion. I already told you that I can heal you." Chao said in an arrogant manner. Chao then pointed at Lance with a purple glowing finger, and the bite marks on Lance slowly disappeared. "Wait, you have skills!?!?" Lance was truly annoyed this time. Here he was fighting for his life while Chao just sat back and relaxed. "Yes, but I''m not using them for these weaklings. Also, how else are you going to learn to fight? You can''t rely on me to fight your battles." Lance was stunned. He now truly didn''t know if this little kid was younger than him or older than him. Chao was truly an enigma to him. Lance then decided to look at the boots before getting more information from Chao about his skills.
Boots of the Swift Wolf (Normal) Boots that retained the speed of a wolf. Effect: +5 agility +2 Defense
"Oh, now this is nice." Chapter 6: Realization Lance was very happy about the new boots that dropped. They were now the first useful item that he got ever since the world changed. He knows this is the first of many, but he can''t help but feel proud that he obtained it with his own efforts. Lance took off the sneakers he was wearing and started to put on his new boots. As soon as they were put on, he felt a soothing sensation flow through his body. It was a feeling he definitely could get used too. Lance looked down at the new boots, he couldn''t see anything special about the boots. If he didn''t know what they were capable of, then he would just think they were normal boots. This will definitely make it hard for people to know what each other are capable of. "Ooh, fancy shmancy." Chao said looking down at Lance. "You know you probably shouldn''t spend so much time looking at your shoes, and instead prepare for the battle that might tear you apart." Lance looked around to see what he was talking about and when he didn''t see anything, he looked at Chao weirdly. Before he could say anything though, he heard a loud howl. Lance looked at the source of the howl and saw a group of 8 wolves. They were all hungry wolves except one wolf in the very back of the pack. This wolf was black, instead of grey like the others, and was much bigger. As soon as Lance noticed these wolves, he used Identify on them.
Hungry Wolf lvl 5 75/75 HP
Glutton Wolf Leader lvl 8 (elite monster) 200/200 HP
"How on earth..." Lance looked at Chao shocked. This little guy has way too many surprises. Just when he thinks he learns everything about this guy, there is something new. "You will never be able to understand me completely, at least not for awhile. But it wasn''t a special skill that told me you were going to be in trouble. You got wolf blood on you stupid." Chao said arrogantly while not even looking at Lance. Lance then looked down at the red stains on his white shirt and black pants. Lance now understood that these were the previous wolves'' pack and they are coming for revenge. The hungry wolves started to surround Lance, growling with killing intent. They were clearly upset that this human had killed their family. The leader however, just stared at Lance. It was studying Lance, waiting for something to happen. At the the slightest chance, it would utilize the opportunity send the pack to destroy him. Lance brought his fist up and started to analyze the situation he was in. He first used Analyze, and then watched carefully as the wolves had him completely surrounded. The moment one of them moved, the battle would start. Lance knew that this fight would not be easy. However, since Chao doesn''t look at all interested in this fight, it meant that Chao had confidence in him, hopefully.... The leader saw Lance glance somewhere else and it immediately howled, telling all the wolves to attack. One by one, the wolves started to charge at Lance, who was in the center of them. Lance re-focused on the fight and prepared as the first wolf lunged at him. Lance swung his arm, colliding it against the wolf''s face and using the momentum to send the wolf flying towards the ground. The wolf hit the ground and bounced yelping in pain while other wolves ran passed it to get their chance at the human. The second wolf manage to bite his leg from the opposite side of the first wolf. Lance spent too much of his concentration on the previous wolf, allowing this one to gain the opportunity to do some considerable damage. Lance clenched his teeth in pain as he bent down and grabbed the wolf, to try to rip it off of his leg. The wolf clamped down tightly, as if it would rather die than let go. Lance used his enhanced strength to overpower the creature, however, in doing so, created a bigger gash in his leg from when the teeth had been. Lance howled in pain, but kept his focus as he picked up the wolf, swinging it like a sack and bashing it against the next wolf that was about to chomp it''s teeth into his shoulder. Lance let go of the wolf as it collided with the other, launching both of them a fair distance away. The impact caused a fair bit of damage to the two wolves. However, as soon as the monsters stopped sliding, they stood up and prepared to go straight back into the chaos. This throw took too much movement and concentration from Lance, so the fifth wolf took advantage and clawed his back. Lance grimaced as his back was suddenly full of a stinging pain. These wolves were clearly coordinated, probably from the pack leader. Ordinary wolves would attack constantly without any plan and retreat at any sight of impending doom. Lance was clearly stronger than them, as seen previously, when it only took two kicks to kill one of the wolves. However, due to their numbers and their coordination, the danger was not added by each wolf, but multiplied. Lance looked at the pack leader and noticed that it was just calmly watching, showing no signs of ever entering the battle. "Wow, you believe that you can just safely watch from afar while your group tries to kill me? Think again!" Lance thought to himself angrily. He decided to rush and take out the leader first. Only that way he could probably deal with the others. He first dodged a wolf clawing at his face by stepping to the side and ducking. Then he dashed in the direction of the Glutton wolf, hoping that his superior speed would outrun all the other wolves. Unfortunately, this was not as easy as a task as it seemed. The two last wolves were moving towards Lance in the same direction as he was charging. Lance clenched his teeth as he gathered his resolve. As soon as one of the wolves lunged at him, Lance took this opportunity to punch the wolf to the ground, then dash away from the other wolf. Using his fairly high agility, moving away from the wolf was easily accomplished. Lance then smiled, as he charged towards the wolf that was just standing there all alone. He had done it. Now he could quickly take care of the leader, causing the pack to lose moral, making this fight a whole lot easier. This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version. Lance killing intent grew as he got closer. He was in this situation because of this wolf. He felt pain all over because of this stupid mutt. Even if it was the last thing he did, he would slaughter the pack leader. He was fairly confident with his speed after his transformation. It was so much faster than when he was a human. How could anything compare with him now, Lance thought. The situation was going too well, so much that it was eerie. Even though he got closer to the wolf and it was in a fairly bad situation, it had no trace of fear within it''s eyes. This shook Lance a bit because he could clearly remember what had happen with the other wolves previously when they realized they were in a bad situation. Fear was plastered all over their face. But this wolf wasn''t fazed what so ever. "Arrogant!!" Lance yelled as he lunged at the wolf, however, just as Lance was seemingly about to punch the wolf, it disappeared from his sight. Lance blinked a couple of time, not knowing what just occurred. Before he could even think, all of a sudden, he felt something large crashing into his side. It felt like he got hit by a car and Lance was sent flying to the side. Lance hit the ground and rolled, slamming his back into the wall. As soon as his back hit the wall, Lance coughed up a mouthful of blood and looked astonish and confused at what just happened. He was attacking the leader at one point, then all of a sudden he was hit by something. "Hahaha, you sure got thrashed." Lance looked and Chao was floating above him laughing. Lance blinked a few times at Chao, not knowing what to say. "Ah, but seriously, this was a good experience. Better for you to be able understand your own weaknesses before you face even harder challenges." Chao said. "What...what just happened?" Lance managed to say through his pain. "Ya got overconfident. When you easily defeated those wolves before, you thought you were invincible, but now you realize you are far from it", Chao explained. "You couldn''t defeat 7 normal wolves by yourself. Hell, you couldn''t defeat one slightly stronger wolf by yourself. How are you invincible?" Lance looked down at himself. He didn''t know what to say. Chao was right. He got arrogant. He thought he was strong, he thought that everything would fall into his lap, but he was wrong, almost dead wrong. The truth is, he''s still weak. He is very weak. There will always be something stronger than him, especially now that he was at the bottom of the food chain. He was just a level 1 and he thought he could take on a group of level 5s with a level 8. This was truly foolish. "Wrong." Lance looked up at Chao confused. He thought this was the lesson Chao wanted for him to learn. To not be weak and to know his strength. To choose his battles intelligently instead of charging in full of stupidity and arrogance. "Yes and no. I wanted you to know that you are weak, yes. I wanted you to stop being arrogant, yes. However, I also want you to realize that there are different types of strength. If you were actually aware of how to control your strength, your speed, and in the future, your skills. Then you would be able to fight so much more efficiently, with more skill, to the point where a situation like this where you are going against a large amount of enemies won''t be a problem." Chao explained. Lance looked at Chao astonished. This kid that acted free and arrogant was now talking like a wise old man. He talked like he knew from experience. Lance now saw Chao in a different light. He now understood truly how much Lance has benefited from obtaining Chao. This truly was a gift from God. In a world where death is around every corner, anything that could increase the chance for survival even by a tiny margin was a priceless item. Now Lance had realized that what he obtained was much better than any item. He obtained a companion that would help him, teach him, show him the correct way, which will in fact increase his chances of survival by a huge margin. Anyone who knew what he had would fly into a jealousy rage and would think that God is truly unfair. Chao nodded in acknowledgement. "Yes, I am your companion, I am also your younger brother, and now I will be your teacher. First, let''s deal with this situation, and then we will get started with the training." Lance finally realized something strange. The wolves were standing a fair distance away looking at him and Chao cautiously. They were not daring to get near. It was like they sensed something dangerous, so they were being extremely careful. "Why aren''t they attacking?" Lance said looking at Chao. Before, when he wasn''t injured and in peak form, they surrounded him and attacked non-stop out of fury and rage. But now, he was not only badly injured, he was completely distracted, talking to Chao, and yet they didn''t move. It was like they were completely different than before. Lance couldn''t understand it. "I revealed myself to them. I have the ability to only be seen by you, since we are connected, but I can reveal myself if I ever feel like it. My guess is that they do not know what I am, but they can sense that I am capable." Chao explained. "However, I am not going to fight them. This is for your experience." Lance nodded. He truly thought of Chao as his teacher after he received the lecture that awakened him from his arrogant thoughts. Lance slowly got up and the wolves watched him carefully while also glancing at Chao every now and again as well. They didn''t know what was going to happen from this point on, but they weren''t willing to give up without killing Lance. "Alright, I am going to explain what is about to happen, so listen carefully. You are going to need to follow my orders if you want to get out of this situation alive." Chao said looking at Lance. Lance nodded and got into a position to fight. He was going to do whatever it would take to survive. Nothing is going to kill him, absolutely nothing. He didn''t care if it was a pack of wolves or a group of trolls. Lance was going to use whatever he could so that he could live to the next day. Chapter 7: Counterattack Ok, from what I see only about half are injured, but the wolf you punched in the face is the most injured. If it receives another attack, it will surely die." Chao says while looking over the pack. "So you want me to attack that one first." Lance says, preparing to charge. Even if it lessens the burden on himself just by a little bit, Lance was willing to go all out to accomplish the objective. "Don''t talk, just listen. Actually, don''t even think. I will guide each and every move, so that you can actually come out alive", Chao commanded. Lance nodded his head. He didn''t like being told he was useless on his own, but, because of the previous fight, he couldn''t say anything. "Ok, wait for my signal. Once I say it, you will immediately charge full force at the wolf nearest the injured one." Chao said while pointing at them. The wolves that were slightly injured were all behind one that was completely fine or at least in a better condition. Both Chao and Lance watched the wolves as they were starting to try to use the same strategy as before. The fact that Lance was at a wall made it easier for the wolves to group up and lessen the pressure on the injured. Since they were wary of Chao before, they didn''t get into position. But now, seeing Lance was about to fight, they didn''t have a choice but to move cautiously into position. Chao observed the situation carefully, ready to give the order at any point. The wolves were almost into position when Chao yelled, "Now!!!". Lance then dashed with his full strength to the left, like he was instructed to. Lance dashing caught the wolves off guard, and with his superior speed, he was able to reach the designated wolf in no time. Lance then used his leg to kick the wolf full force. The wolf yelped as it''s ribs were crushed from the kick. It then flew to the wall, crashing into the wall, causing it to be stunned. "Now, quickly, before the wolves reach you, attack the wolf in front of you, then dash back to the wolf on the wall and finish him off as well." Chao commanded. Lance did not even think as he used the momentum to dash at the hungry wolf. The hungry wolf lunged at Lance in defense. It knew it was probably not going to survive this confrontation, but it decided to at least injure Lance in it''s last moments. "Sidestep left and kick!!" Chao yelled. Lance, doing as he ordered, sidestepped, causing the wolf to miss in its attempt to claw at his chest. Now Lance was not only in a prime position to attack, but the wolves were on the other side of the wolf, making so he would not be attacked. Lance smiled and swung his leg towards the wolf''s face using it''s own momentum against him, causing more damage. Lance even heard some cracks as the wolf was sent flying towards his left. The wolf didn''t even have a time to yelp in pain, as it died from the strike. Blue light flew into Lance from the dead wolf and a voice played into his head. Lvl up. Lance was about to check it, when all of a sudden he heard Chao in his head screaming, "Don''t you dare lose focus and forget what I told you! Check your status when you are not about to die!!!" Lance woke up from his foolishness and dashed straight for the wolf against the wall. The wolf was slowly picking itself up. It seemed that that was a feat in on itself, even breathing seemed to be painful for this wolf. It seems like a rib punctured a lung and it was in serious pain. The rest of the pack was chasing Lance as he was running towards the injured wolf. However, the chase was almost pointless, because the only one that could catch Lance was the leader, but it has yet to actually enter the battle. Lance seized this chance to create some distance between him and the pack. When he was about to reach the wolf, Chao''s voice sounded in his head, "Use your momentum to jump and stomp on the wolf''s chest, then proceed to roll away in the opposite direction of me." Following Chao''s order, he jumped and, using his body weight, stomped on the wolf''s ribs, crushing them further. A big critical hit appeared above the wolf in yellow letters. The wolf didn''t even have a chance to dodge as it''s breathed it''s last painful final breath. Lance rolled away, as the blue light entered his body once again. The wolves were stunned, as another of their pack has been killed. But more than shocked, they were angry. Fury filled their eyes as they glared at Lance. The leader howled, as if saying a final message to his fallen brethren as they pass into the next world. Lance didn''t have to understand what the message was. The leader was, without a doubt, saying that they would be avenged. The Glutton Leader finally took his first step forward towards Lance. This signified that the true battle has now begun. Chao floated to the ceiling to see this battle in a bird''s eye view. He needed to be able to see everything to be able to guide Lance. Chao then telepathically said, "Things have gotten a bit difficult. The leader''s speed is just as fast as you, if not faster. However, it has an edge as the fact that you are not used to its speed." Lance nodded. He already realized what had happened the last time he tried to attack the leader. It used its speed to enter Lance''s blind spot and then it slammed into his side, causing him no small amount of damage. If I get hit by something like that again, Lance shuddered as he thought about the damage he obtained last time. It, without a doubt, took out half of his health, if not more. Another one would finish him. "I told you to stop thinking!!!" Chao shouted in Lance''s head. Chao then pointed at Lance with a purple glowing finger. Lance''s bruises and claw marks started disappearing slowly until they were cleared up. "Now you don''t have to worry about getting hit and dying, since getting hit is a big possibility. Even if I tell you to dodge, your body probably will not react in time. You are still not used to that speed yet." Chao explained. Lance couldn''t help but shudder when he heard what Chao said. If he couldn''t rely on Chao right now, wouldn''t he end up like he did before? No matter how much Chao healed him, it would be all for not if the battle went on for too long and his stamina depleted completely. "Don''t worry about it too much. Just get ready, because running is no longer an option. When I say attack, you must attack. We will be in a constant link, so my words will reach you instantly. Now, DROP TO THE GROUND!!!" Chao screamed. Lance quickly ducked and, as soon as he did, a hungry wolf jumped over him. As soon as it landed, it looked at Lance and growled. Sweat dropped down on Lance''s forehead. By how high it jumped, the wolf was probably going for his throat. It was going for the kill. Lance looked and noticed that he had four hungry wolves and the leader on one side while he had the one on the other side. Before Lance knew what was happening, all the wolves started to charge at him, including the leader who was in front. The leader quickly reached Lance and clawed Lance''s side as it passed by him. Lance held his new cut and clenched in pain. He couldn''t react in time because he was distracted for only a moment. "Jump towards the wolf on the right, then make another small jump to the right and kick the wolf." Chao commanded from above. Lance looked up and saw the rest of the pack nearing him. He sucked in the pain and jumped to the right, following Chao''s directions. He wasn''t going to die now. He will get stronger, and live. Live to see the end of this messed up world. The wolf to the right stopped and growled. It then lunged at Lance, who then jumped to the right again. Just like anticipated, the wolf missed, though it managed to graze Lance a bit. The damage was basically negligible. Lance used this opportunity to kick it like a football. The wolf flew into the sky and Chao floated towards the wolf and lifted up his arms saying "GOOOOOAL!!!!" Lance couldn''t even think about what Chao just did when, all of a sudden, he felt something dangerous was behind him. He then dove to the ground to the side when the leader appeared on his position. Chao looked down in amazement. Looks like his thirst for survival is forming a sixth sense. I thought it would only form during a latter part of the training that I am going to put him through. His willpower is truly formidable. Willpower, the stat that Lance earned and forgot about. His desire to survive against the pack activated the stat allowing him to increase his strength and agility, to be able to combat the Glutton wolf. This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there. Lance himself doesn''t know that his power has increased because he still doesn''t completely understand his capabilities. However, even though he didn''t notice, Chao still did. "Ok, now listen carefully. There are still plenty of wolves, but most of them won''t even be able to take one of your punches. What you need to do is kill the little ones before you can take on the papa. So go to the place where there are more wolves and start punting." Chao explained. There was some things in there that sounded questionable, but Lance understood what Chao meant. The leader was hard to deal with and with it''s pack, it is even harder. Lance must kill all the hungry wolves and then the leader can be defeated. Lance then dashed towards a group of 4 out of five wolves. The leader watched Lance charge at his underlings. Furious, the Glutton dashed after Lance. However, even though it was going as fast as it could, it could not catch up with the powered up Lance. Lance, not noticing he was being chased, charged into the pack. The pack, seeing Lance coming for them, started to run towards him. When they believed they were close enough, they lunged at different parts of his body. "Dodge!!" Chao shouted in Lance''s head. Lance rolled to the side, where most of the wolves missed by a long shot. Lance''s leg swung out and hit the closest wolf''s waist. It yelped in pain as it died. But even as one wold died, Lance didn''t stop there. From the corner of his eye, he saw one of the wolves landing and lunging at him once again. From the same spot, Lance spun and kicked the wolf''s face, sending it back to where it just was. With that, two more wolves died and blue lights flowed into Lance. "Impressive! He is adapting to the fight as well. He might have a talent in fighting. No wonder he was so bored in the previous world. There was too much peace for this chaotic man", Chao thought and then laughed. "I can''t wait to mold him into his full potential of chaos." Lance couldn''t even rest for a second when he saw the leader dashing straight at him. Lance didn''t even realize that he could actually see the Leader move. He had no time to realize it as he rolled to get out of the way of its charge. The wolf missed and slid trying to stop its momentum. Lance then saw its face. It was pissed. It kept on missing this minuscule human and all of its family is dying from it. The wolf''s growl couldn''t seem more ferocious. However, unlike this leader, the three other wolves didn''t have their previous ferocity. It was now replaced by fear. The fear of being injured and on the brink of death. At this point, to them, Lance looked like the God of death coming to claim their little lives. Chao noticed the wolves change in demeanor as they back up step in fear. Chao then yelled in Lance''s mind, "Hurry and finish off the rest of the pack. Their forces are weakened. Take advantage of this situation." "OK!" Lance said as he nodded. He looked around and saw the two wolves form before. As soon as his eyes saw them, his body moved in pursuit. The leader, seeing the state of his underlings, howled, commanding them to attack. It then chased after Lance, hoping to take advantage of a situation to finally finish off this human. Lance didn''t even look back when he heard the leader''s howl. His focus was completely on the two wolves in front of him. He was like a starving predator that finally found a prey. There was no way he was going to let the prey escape. Lance arrived right in front of one of the wolves, causing it to jump in fright. The wolf couldn''t even try to run away as Lance swung his leg, kicking its side, causing it to launch and slide to the side. Once the sliding ceased, no movement could be seen from the body. The life it once contained was no longer there. The other wolf watched as its brother was killed, causing it to be distracted. Lance took this opportunity to close in. But before Lance could attack, he heard the running of the leader behind him. Lance didn''t even think as he spun around, swinging his leg at the leader. The leader clearly didn''t expect this, because the leg hit directly on the side of its head, causing it to slide a bit to the side. Lance was not thinking. His body was moving like it was on autopilot, doing whatever it could to survive. Lance didn''t even think about the fact that he had actually hit the leader. He used this moment, when the leader was stunned, to go after the stunned wolves. They couldn''t believe that their leader, whom was far more powerful than them, was hit. This was something they didn''t even think was possible. Unfortunately for them, this distraction led to the end of their lives. Lance, like a bullet, moved swiftly towards the shocked wolf. Using his momentum, Lance jumped and stomped on the wolf''s chest, causing it to cave in and killing it. Then, using the wolf''s corpse, Lance sprung off of it towards the last hungry wolf. Both the hungry wolf and the leader couldn''t react as Lance used his body''s weight and strength and punched the wolf into the ground, causing the ground to crack a little bit. The leader stared at Lance in shock. All of its family has been killed. Not only have they been killed, but it was by the seemingly weak man who they were playing with earlier. Lance slowly stood up and then looked at the Glutton Leader. The wolf jumped back in shock, but also fear. This was because there was something clearly different from the man. Something that sent shivers down the wolf''s spine. Lance''s eyes. His eyes were now glowing. Not only were they shining brightly of both red and purple, but, in the purple eye, the chaos star was shown clearly in a red color. Chao smiled as he felt the change in Lance. It was both an excited smile and a wicked one. It was as if he knew that this was going to happen. Lance himself didn''t realize what was going on. At this moment, his mind was blank. He was relying purely on instinct and that instinct took over. Lance slowly walked towards the trembling wolf leader. The wolf was backing up unconsciously out of fear while snarling at Lance. However, Lance was just calmly walking toward it as if nothing could affect him. Finally, Lance got into the wolf''s range and, like a fleeing animal, backed it up into a corner, the wolf decided to fight lunging at Lance with all of it''s speed and power. It was trying to finish off Lance with this one move. However, Lance just stepped to the side and kicked the wolf in the chest, sending it flying in a different direction. The large wolf sent out a loud yelp as it was sent flying into a wall. Without skipping a beat, Lance dashed straight after the wolf. As the wolf collided with the wall, Lance arrived at it. He then, all of a sudden, cast out a fury of punches, not letting the wolf even fall onto the floor. The wolf''s red blood was spraying all over Lance, but he was unfazed. If anyone saw Lance, they would run for their lives, as they would think he was a blood thirsty demon coming to slaughter everyone. Lance finally stopped his punches and the leader wolf fell lifeless onto the ground. It did not even have a chance to react before its life was put to an end. Chao started to float towards Lance just as Lance looked at the wolf and then fainted. Lance''s stamina has long been used up and he was running on adrenaline. Pure chaotic adrenaline. "Good grief, you''re always sleeping. Well, I will let you rest for a couple of hours before we begin our training. That was a nice performance though. The time when you can control your chaos is something to look forward to." Chao said, looking over the blood soaked Lance. Now, lets see what goodies we got from these wolves, Chao thought as he looked over the wolves. Chao went around and collected 3 lesser health potions, two blue potions, one dark grey undershirt, one dagger, and few odd looking coins and fangs from the hungry wolves. Chao then looked at the loot from the Glutton leader in which he saw a couple of coins, a book, and a black sword. Ooh, wow, he really is lucky, Chao thought as he put all the items into Lance''s backpack. Chao then dragged Lance into the nearest classrooms, where he then fell asleep next to Lance. Chapter 8: From Great to Terrible "AHH!! That was a nice nap." Chao exclaimed while stretching his arms. "Ok, now it is time to wake this bum up. But first..." Chao then pointed at Lance with his purple glowing finger. Lance glowed purple for a bit, then the glow slowly faded away, leaving a much better looking Lance. Chao walked up to the unconscious man twice his size. Looking down, he saw Lance with a peaceful look on his face. It was absolutely precious, well, until Chao slapped him straight across the face. Lance slowly opened his eyes. He didn''t have time to even fully wake up when, all of a sudden, a stinging pain was felt on his cheek. Chao slapped him again, but on the other cheek this time. Lance shot up in alarm. He was searching frantically, thinking he was still in danger, until he saw Chao, with a devilish smile on his face, on top of Lance. "Look who finally decided to wake up." Chao said, as he hopped off of Lance. "Before you ask what happened, because I know you are going to ask it, think carefully and you should remember." Chao said while starting to float upward. Lance blinked a couple of times before he started to recall the events that just occurred. Lance was shocked at what he remembered. The fighting, the dodging, the decisions he made, all of it was like someone else was inside his body. Lance looked up at Chao, who just smiled. Lance was about to question Chao about the fight when Chao started to explain. "What you did during the fight can be considered part of your hidden potential. I am about to train you so that you can access you hidden potential, but, before we start, check out your status." Lance was confused, but listened anyway. He opened up his status. There, he saw the changes, it surprised him a bit. He grew to lvl 4, but that wasn''t the surprising part. He had 15 stat points. That means that each level gave 5 stat points. Now a problem has shown. What should the stat points be distributed into? Should it be in strength, so the damage output can increase, or should he move faster with agility? He contemplated on his decision when, all of a sudden, Chao sounded in his mind. "I would recommend that you should put your stats in strength, dexterity, and agility. This would improve your reaction time and fight ability tremendously." Lance thought about what Chao said and nodded in approval. From what he remembered from the fight, close combat was a field he could excel at. Lance quickly looked at his status, then he distributed to the 3 skills evenly, giving them 5 in each.

Lance closed his status. He tried to feel if there was anything different, but other than feeling a bit lighter, there was nothing. Actually, the only thing that he felt was the vague sense he was forgetting something. "That''s probably all the items the wolves dropped. Ya got to remember to get the loot, that''s half the reason you fight." Chao said nonchalantly. "SHIT!!!" Lance screamed as he was about to charge straight through the classroom door. However, before he ran straight through it, he noticed out of the corner of his eye, his backpack. It was fuller than before. Lance quickly stopped, while looking at his backpack, then to Chao, who was just laughing wildly. Lance sighed in relief, as he walked towards the backpack. When he got there, he noticed a sword sticking out of it. He smiled in satisfaction as he took all of the items out of the bag. From there, he saw he had one sword, one dagger, one shirt that had an image of a wolf howling at the moon, a few red potions which he already knew were health, a couple purple potions, and a book. He saw the coins and fangs, but just left them in his bag. Lance proceeded to Identify each item other than the health potions. Since this wasn''t a skill that could level up, there was no need to waste with it.
Lesser Chaotic Potion Heals 50 Chaotic Energy
Sharp Dagger (Normal) Just a simple sharp dagger. Effect: +2 agility +2 strength
Shirt of the Beast (Normal) A special shirt only dropped from the Animal Kingdom. The color and image on the shirt depends on the animal that has been defeated. Effect: +4 defense +2 agility
Blade of the Shadow Wolf(Rare) A blade with the color of the eternal night. Moves swift as the wolf, strikes with the fierceness of a beast. Effect: +4 Strength +5 dexterity +2 agility
Lance couldn''t believe what he saw. He had hit the jackpot. Not only did he have a weapon now, he had a back up, and some more defense. Though, what is really impressive is the amount of agility that was added to his equipment. Lance first took off his shirt and replaced it with the wolf shirt. Next, he fastened the dagger on his belt. He put the potions in his pocket for quick access, though he still doesn''t understand how to utilize Chaos energy. Now, how do I put on the sword, Lance thought. It was just a sword. How was he supposed to carry it while keeping his hands open? It would be incredibly inconvenient if he had to carry it in his hand everywhere he went. "Just think about equipping it, and it will fasten to you." Chao said, floating next to Lance, looking extremely bored. Lance looked at Chao extremely annoyed. "You mean I could have just done that with all my stuff?" Lance said with irritation clearly in his voice. "Not with all your stuff, just monster drops." Chao said while shrugging. Lance sighed in annoyance. He truly felt stupid for taking the time trying to take off items and putting the new ones on. He thought about equipping the sword. It teleported to his back and fastened to it, ready to be be pulled out when needed. Lance shook his head, there were just too many things that he needed to discover to make life easier in this world. He would have to feel stupid each and every time as well, since the process will just be trial and error. "Now that all the equipment has been taken care of, it is time to see the main item of this session." Lance said excitingly. Lance looked back at the ground where there was now just a book. He picked it up and used Identify on it. If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
Skill Book: Howl A form of communication that wolves use over long distances to relay orders and intimidation. This book allows one to learn the way to howl, to intimidate enemies and empower allies. New Skill: Howl Effect: +7% strength +10% agility To all Allies. Extra Information: Chaotic energy can be used instead of mana for this skill. When Chaotic energy is used: +20% chance for enemies to experience fear
Lance looked at the information with conflicting feelings. He was happy to be able to gain a skill, however, he didn''t have allies to use this on. Also, the extra information was interesting. The info was definitely there just for him. What Lance obtained from the information was three things. First, the skills that require mana can use chaotic energy instead, which was very useful. Second, there are skills that can only use mana, which absolutely sucks, but it isn''t all bad. The skills that can only use mana are probably magician skills. He wouldn''t learn those anyway, since he was going the warrior route. Third, The chaotic energy in Lance''s body causes extra effects. The effects probably have something to do with the chaotic affiliation, so the skills will mutate in that direction. This was extremely useful, because it shows there are more rewards for being special than he realized. Lance didn''t even have to think about how to gain this skill. It felt like an instinct to just absorb it like energy. The book turned into particles of light which flowed straight into Lance. Lance looked at the skill.

Lance nodded in approval as he looked at his new skill. "This will come in handy in the future." Lance thought to himself. With that being the last thing, he was now fully equipped and ready for what is coming. "Alright, now that you are situated, it is time to start the training." Chao said with a serious look on his face. Lance glanced at Chao and sighed. He did not know what was about to happen. All he knew is that he was not going to enjoy it. "You are right about that. OK, what I want you to do is to clear this area of all desks and chairs. Throw them out of the window, destroy them, I don''t care. We need an open space." Chao exclaimed. Lance looked at everything in the room. The classrooms in his college were either made up of flat rooms or ones that were set on stairs, so everyone can see the board. This room just happened to be the former type. There were 6 long tables that were the width of the room, with chairs all along the tables. Lance sighed as picked up chair by chair and threw them out the window. That was the easy part. Now comes the tables. Lance didn''t really know how he would get rid of them. It was not like he could fit it through a window. Lance then had an idea. He went behind his bag and grabbed his sword. This was a good chance to test the sharpness of the blade. Lance steadied himself as he swung the sword down to cut the table in half. The sword however, sliced into it, but not all the way. Lance was confused, however, even before Chao had anything to say, he understood. It was his skill. He had never used a sword before, so he couldn''t utilize it properly. Lance couldn''t do anything, but keep on trying to slice through the tables. It was going to be a slow process. However, it might just help him find the right way to use it. Lance sliced through the tables, each cut completely different results from the previous. Finally though, as he was cutting the last table into smaller squares, the blade went smoothly through. Lance was happy, but tired. His arms were exhausted from this new movement, but they quickly adjusted. Lance assumed that it was just the result of his stamina bar recovering. Lance soon remembered about his hunger bar, so he went to his backpack, where Chao was already enjoying some chips. He rested for a bit while eating before he resumed his cutting. An hour has passed, but he only needed a few more slices to go before he would be finished. All the other tables were already cut into squares and thrown out the window. He needed to use the remaining pieces to familiarize himself with that last sensation. Lance used the blade like he remembered and sliced through the table again. His dexterity was already quite high for his level, so his ability to remember with his body was fairly good. Lance sliced through in a faster pace since he was using the blade in a more proper way then before. When he finally cut through the last table, a ding was heard. "Wow, this has been a very eventful day." Lance said.
Sword Mastery (Passive) Beginner lvl 1-0% The ability to use the sword with precision and skill. A higher level of ability requires a higher skill level.
Now this is a useful skill, Lance thought to himself. With this skill, his ability to improve with the sword will only get better and better the more he uses it. This will allow him to master it quicker and deal more lethal blows. "Alright, your done." Chao said. "Now we can start. First, unequip all your weapons, as they will only get in the way. Also, give me your potions, you won''t be needing them." Lance looked at Chao hesitantly and confused, but he obliged anyway. He needed to learn how to fight better. It was the only way he will be able to survive. So for now he will listen to Chao. Lance took off his sword and dagger, and moved the items to the corner with the backpack. He put the items down, then made his way to the center of the room, where Chao was, and handed him the potions. "Alright, now the training will truly start. To be able to fight, you first need to know how to dodge properly." Chao explained. Sweat dripped down Lance''s forehead. Whatever was about to happen was not going to be pleasant. Chao looked at Lance and smiled the biggest smile. That smiled said a thousand things. None of those things Lance was going to like. Chao flew straight at Lance''s head. Lance was about to jump back out of reflex. However, Chao reached his face before Lance could jump back. Chao put his finger on Lances''s forehead. "Have fun." was the last thing Lance heard when everywhere around him turned dark and silent. Lance couldn''t see his hand in front of his face. "What just happened?" Lance thought to himself. Lance had no clue what Chao did to him. Also, how did Chao do this to him? Lance suddenly realized he knew nothing about his familiar. He''ll have to ask once he sees him again. While Lance was deep in thought, a spotlight shined above him, snapping him back into reality or wherever he was. Right next to him there was a wooden sign. Lance looked around to see if he could see anything else, but he couldn''t. Lance then looked and read the sign. "Hey, bro, it''s Chao. Training one will now begin, so..... try not to die. Nah, I am only kidding. You won''t die, but it''s gonna hurt like a bitch. By the way, the fighting won''t be finished until you learn to see in the future!!!" "..." "..What?" Lance said out loud. Growls suddenly sounded out from the darkness in all different directions. Lance jumped up and prepared himself for the enemy. Looking around, Lance saw eyes in the shadows. The eyes were those of a predator looking at their prey. Soon the eyes started to come closer. Out of the darkness came different species of animals. All of them growling, ready to tear Lance apart at any given chance. Leopards, wolves, hyenas, gorillas, rhinos, and hawks. Lance looked in shock and terror as the animals completely surrounded him. Their eyes filled with rage. It was like they were here for revenge and the only thing that could appease them was blood. "Are you KIDDING ME!?!?!?!?" Chapter 9: Training of Pain To describe the experience that Lance was going through as unpleasant would be so much of a complete and utter understatement. The killing intent alone that was emanating off of the beasts caused Lance to feel like he was suffocating. Every fiber of his being was screaming as danger was all around him. All the animals charged at Lance, leaving him with no space to run or breathe. He had no weapons, his fist seemed to be completely ineffective against these beast. Not only was his blows not causing even the slightest of harm, it seemed to be making them even angrier. Lance could do nothing but dodge, or at least try to dodge. There was just so many beast coming from all different angles that he would move in one direction, then get hit by some beast. Sometimes, it was leopards claws to his body, other times, wolves would bite his legs and arms. These blows caused numerous injuries on Lance, but these weren''t even the worst of them. There were times where the rhinos would ram him, impaling him with their horn, causing him to spit up blood. Also, the strength of the gorillas were not a joke. All they would have to do is swing their arm, slapping Lance''s body, launching him to the side as he could hear his bone cracking. Every second of every minute was a near death experience for Lance. He wouldn''t actually die however. Just as soon as he was injured or his bones shattered, they would be immediately healed as if nothing had happened. The entire experience was like he was being constantly tortured for an unknown amount of time. Honestly, it would be surprising if Lance managed to not be traumatized by this entire experience. To experience blood curdling pain over and over again was enough to drive any man insane. The worst thing was that the training has had no indications of stopping or even slowing down. This experience would go until Lance managed to learn something. Floating above, with his arms crossed, Chao was looking at the entire scene with a stern face, with no hint of compassion. Chao knew that, to get better, being on the line between life and death was the best way. Lance, of course, could not see Chao. Actually, the thought of Chao never even passed through his head since the battle started. He couldn''t afford to think of anything else, all he could think of was staying alive. Granted that he knew he was unable to die, the constant torturous pain made it feel much much worse. Lance never knew where the next attack was going to come from. Was it going to be from the side, behind him, above him or below? The constant anticipation drove him crazy and fear completely enveloped his heart and soul. What seemed like hours upon hours of constant pain and suffering led to mental exhaustion. Constantly thinking about where the next attack was going to come from was just too much. His mind couldn''t handle the strain, and so it stopped thinking about it. This concept sounds simple enough, however, it was not at all. To not think in a situation of true life and death could not happen. One must constantly focus because even a second of misguided attention could lead to death. However, what Lance experience now wasn''t a true life and death, but a torture that transcended it. So his mind did what it could do so it wouldn''t break, and that was to not think about the next attack. This lead to him being tossed around like a rag doll for a large period of time. However, as time went on, Lance felt true clarity. Not having to think about the next attack allowed his mind to recover and actually strengthen. Lance looked around and, for once, he felt like he could truly see everything. He could see the hyenas on his left, the leopard on his right, the gorilla pounding its chest behind the leopard. Everywhere he looked he could see everything in detail. His mind was processing this data so fast and clearly that everything seemed to become slower around him. Lance used this opportunity to analyze everything in front of him. He paid attention to every detail that he could. Lance watched as the animals charged at him. He saw how each body part moved. He saw where the eyes looked. He saw every little detail of every animal in his view. For the ones behind him, he would have to swing his body to the side to see them. Lance at this time begun to move again. He tilted his body out of the direction of the leopard''s swipe and then jumped over the rhino that charged at him. He was then attacked by the hawks, and thrashed by the gorilla. Lance''s body shuddered from the pain and he coughed up blood once again, but Lance was not focused on that. After all, this time he finally improved. He managed to dodge more than one animal. He broke through the first and biggest hurdle of his training. He could tell where the next attack was coming from. Now all he needed to do was dodge more and more until he couldn''t be hit anymore. For this, he would need to be in complete control of his body. He would need to know how fast he reacted, the amount of distance that can be covered in a second, how high he could jump... He needed to know all of this information. Lance stood up while looking around. Noticing he was completely surrounded, Lance smiled as he prepared for the onslaught that was coming his way. Chao looked down at Lance and smiled. The advancement has finally begun and the training was bearing fruit. This training method could easily be considered a hit or miss. If Lance could not last then he would be forever traumatized by battle, and would not survive long in the world. There was also a possibility of his mind breaking, making him completely insane. Actually, technically, Lance could be considered to have turned insane. He was going straight into the battle to embrace a godly amount of pain that he has already experienced. He also smiled as the bearers of pain charged straight at him. Lance might not have noticed it, but due to this experience, he has completely changed. He would never again second guess being in a battle. He now had a new desire to improve himself. This desire was very strong and flowed through his veins, becoming a part of his very being. Once the training has concluded, the feeling of fear in battle will be very rare for Lance. He, who has constantly experienced a fate worse than death for what could be only considered a ridiculous amount of time. Only a being that could utterly destroy Lance with little effort could cause Lance to feel fear. Lance constantly analyzed the animals around him as he trained with his own body. The pain at this point was now one of the last things in his mind. He focused entirely on understanding his body by comparing it with the animals around him. Lance would dash from side to side to see his speed compared to the wolf. He would face the gorilla and collide fists with the gorilla punch for punch. He utilized the fact that his body would regenerate to test his threshold and strength. Lance was now a complete battle machine, focusing on understanding himself and improving himself through fighting. Another large amount of time passed before something interesting happened. Lance now completely understood his capabilities. His body and mind was now united, causing him to act completely out of instinct. His body dodged with minimal effort as each animal tried to obtain a piece of him. He would swiftly dodge while constantly observing his enemies. He could see who tried to attack next, how they would attack, and when and how he should dodge. This situation was just like how he was with the wolves, however, he was in control. His mind and body worked together to produce a fluid movement without hesitation. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it. He no longer experience any pain and was completely immersed in the feeling of being in complete control. He followed the flow of attacks and was completely unscathed. Lance was enjoying this feeling, when he noticed that all the animals stopped. The animals no longer were releasing killing intent. They just looked at Lance calmly, without much interest. They had completely changed from the situation before. All the animals then turned around and walked back into the shadows. Lance stood there looking around to see if anything else was happening. Seeing nothing happened, he let out a breath of fresh air and sat down. Chao then started to float down and revealed himself to Lance. Lance looked at Chao and smiled. Lance then said, "I don''t know whether I should thank you, or kill you. My body is screaming to tear you to pieces, but you''re lucky my mind is enjoying this new feeling." It was true, Lance was now a lot calmer than he was before. Before, Lance was thrown into a different dangerous world, gained a very odd companion, and he himself no longer was human. Everything caused him to be shocked and react strongly to everything. However, now he had reached true clarity. Lance felt he truly discovered what he wanted to do. He now had a reason to live and survive. That reason was to get stronger and live. ''Weird, I am living to live'' Lance thought as he laughed. He now strongly desired to experience his new life in this world. He had finally embraced the change, allowing all the stress to flow out of him. Even though he was now a lot calmer, he was also a lot deadlier. "So, are you going to tell me where I am?" Lance said looking at Chao. He could now finally ask the question that he had since the beginning. "OK, we are still in the same classroom. To be specific, we are in your mind." Chao explained. "One of the 3 skills I have is Chaotic Illusion. This allows me to send my enemy into an illusion. The illusion will show them their worst fear and tear their mind apart." "My worst fear is animals?" Lance said confused. He understood that his love of animals have plummeted after his experience with the wolves. But it was not to a point where he was afraid of them. However, now, he thoroughly did not like animals one bit. "No." Chao said while shaking his head. "Because we are connected, I could control the illusion when placed directly in your mind, like a dream. That was why your resistance to the illusion didn''t work." "Ah, OK." Lance said with a calm look. Lance wasn''t bothered by it at all. He assumed some trick was used, so, along with his new demeanor, he wasn''t surprised. Chao was secretly shocked at how much Lance has changed. Before, he would have yelled at Chao in which Chao could use it to his advantage to mess with Lance. ''Looks like I am not going to get to act like a fool around him. Well, I will just save it for strangers.'' Chao thought shrugging to himself. "Hey, cool! I heard that." Lance said smiling. Chao looked at Lance surprised again. Then he smiled the biggest smile his tiny face could muster. To be able to hear Chao''s thoughts meant that their connection got stronger and Lance truly was appreciative of what Chao did. Chao did not expect this kind of reaction out of Lance. Actually, he expected that if there was going to be a reaction, Lance would dislike Chao even more. After all, he did just cause him an amount of pain and suffering that no one should have to go through. However, this bonus was completely out of his expectations. Chao could always hear Lance''s thoughts because he was created from Lance, so his connection and love for Lance couldn''t get any stronger. However, to Lance, Chao was a weird stranger that suddenly appeared in his life. Now though, they were truly family and would support each other in the future. "By the way, you said one out of three skills. What are the other two?" Lance asked. He was truly curious. This was something on his mind since he first knew Chao. So far, he experienced healing and the illusion. What could the third one be? Chao smiled and said, "As you know, I have a healing skill. It is called Chaos to Chaos. It allows me to heal those of the chaos affiliation by using my own chaotic energy to heal. The last skill I have is Chaos Storm. It is an AoE that creates a chaotic storm above the enemy." Lance was surprised that these were the only skills that Chao had. No wonder Chao didn''t help him fight. Sure Chao could have zapped all the wolves, but then he might have gotten hit. Also, that fight helped Lance learn that he needed training, so everything was beneficial in the end. "Alright, let''s get out of this place." Lance said while getting up and stretching. He really needed to rest. Even though he didn''t have a problem with stamina or injuries, he still strained his mind, body and soul with this trial. The pain, the focus, the fear, it all took it''s toll on Lance. He would need some time to be in peak condition. Once he is in peak condition, he will become a force to reckon with. He kicked ass when he was mentally exhausted. What will happened when not only his body is refreshed, but his mind as well? "OK, just letting you know that there will be probably be more training later in the future when you need it." Chao said looking at Lance, waiting to see his reaction. "..." "I don''t even know what to say to that." Lance said as he sighed. The experience was truly traumatic, however, the end result was something Lance could not ignore. He was now happy because he found a reason to live and he got stronger. Lance was truly conflicted. Chao snickered as he looked at Lance. ''Looks like not all my fun has disappeared just yet.'' Chao snapped his fingers which was followed by the world around them cracking and shattering. Lance looked around and noticed that they really were in the same classroom. Nothing has changed, he was still in the same spot since Chao poked him in the forehead, creating that mess. The room was still empty and looking out the window, the sun was still up in the sky. "Oh, by the way, how much time has passed by?" Lance said looking at Chao. The pain and the need to focus on the battle caused Lance''s sense of time to be completely warped. "Only about 30 minutes, I want to say." Chao said while shrugging. Lance lifted up his eyebrow in shock. However, he quickly understood that he was in his own mind and, like dreams, time was different there. Lance would probably never know how long he spent training. "By the way, why did you have me get rid of the furniture?" Lance asked looking around the room. "OH, that was because I didn''t know how the illusion affected your body. The knowledge I have about the skill only tells me what it does to the mind. I didn''t know if your body would start dodging as well." Chao said as he sat down. Lance nodded in approval but then shuddered at the thought of obstacles. If there were obstacles obstructing him during the trial, he might really have given in to the pressure. Also, the pain would be much worse, crashing into chairs and desks. The damage would be real. He could have possibly died as well. Lance stopped his depressing thoughts and stretched his arms, preparing to relax, when an exclamation point showed in his view. Lance was now really interested. What could he have received from the training. Lance clicked the bubble and a number of panels appeared in his vision. Lance then looked and read the panels. Chapter 10: Silence

"Three new skill and a title, not bad." Lance nodded in approval as he studied the new information. This made him feel much better about what he had to go through. The new skills and attributes can equal out the traumatic pain. ''Ha, even the system thought what I went through could be considered torture'', Lance thought as he looked at Chao. Chao didn''t respond and looked off to the side like he couldn''t hear what Lance just thought. Lance snickered and looked over his panels once again. ''Hmm....woah, the dodge mastery is intermediate.'' Lance blinked a couple of times as he was trying to process this new information. This was the first immediate skill that he had. Sure what he went through was horrible... However, he never expected this result. Maybe he was in the dream world a lot longer than he realized. What Lance didn''t know was that the skill didn''t become intermediate because of the amount of time he used the skill. The skills actually increases in experience and rank by the amount of understanding one has in the skill. A person can swing the sword a million times, but if he doesn''t improve his technique, he will just be at the same skill level, if not a little better. Using the skill multiple times is the most common way of understanding the skill. However, it is not the only way. If a man was already a master at the sword before the world changed. Then the man''s sword mastery would already be mastered. Lance was able to gain his analytical skill because he would always analyze in his everyday life. The only reason it was beginner when he gained it was because he was constantly focusing for weaknesses. Also, the beasts he was analyzing were a whole new experience for him, so he was basically at beginner level when it concerned them. However, if he checked his analyze ability now, he would discover it was also intermediate. He utilized his analytical gift to be able to dodge all the animals in time. Still took him awhile to get used to analyzing all those animals in his time of danger. Although it took him awhile, for other people, the amount of time would take would be much longer. That is why Chao chose that method of training. He knows Lance better than Lance knows himself. So he constructed the training based off of Lance''s talent. That is why Chao left the hint in the sign. Look in the future symbolized analyze and see the patterns. Lance of course didn''t understand this concept or else he could raise his skills to a whole new level. Chao doesn''t even know this piece of information. God wasn''t just going to let him get knowledge that could easily concur the system he created that easily. Storing all his new skills in his mind, Lance closed the panels. He then walked towards his sword and backpack and equipped them. Chao floated towards Lance, holding the potions in his hand. Lance looked at Chao and smiled as he took the health potions. Lance had no need for the Chaotic potions since he didn''t even understand how to utilize the energy. "Alright, let''s leave this building and search for enemies to kill. We need to level up as much as possible as fast as possible." Lance said as he walked towards the door. "OK, but you need to be careful. Your new skills and knowledge just help you survive better. You are not invincible. You can''t let your guard down for a second." Chao said with a serious look on his face. Lance nodded. He had no idea what was going on outside. He couldn''t hear any racket, so most likely a war is not going on. However, that could just mean that humanity has lost and other species of something now rule the world. For all he knew, the campus could have turned into a fort of monsters in which he was smack dab in the middle of. Lance cautiously walked towards the hallway. He peeked his head out the door to see if he could spot any more wolves. When all looked clear, Lance calmly walked out while looking in all different directions. Lance turned the corner where he saw the big grey doors that separated him from the outside unknown. Lance took a deep breath as he walked towards the doors. He opened them slowly and looked outside. There, for the first time in his new life, he saw it. The destruction and the silence of the new world. All the building he could see were basically nonexistent. Most buildings that used to be in Lance''s college campus were now just large piles of rubble. Other buildings had giant holes in the walls just like when a troll drove his hammer into a wall to get to Lance. The author''s tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. Lance looked up at the building he just was in. When he observed the building, he noticed that what used to be a three story building now was primarily just the first floor. The building had numerous holes along the walls, causing the roof to collapse in on itself. Lance looked back at the world itself, taking in all the new scenery. The ground was cracked with craters everywhere the eye could see. Trees were either split, fallen, or turned into twigs. Cars were wrecked no matter where they were. Some cars were crashed through the buildings. Others looked like they were squashed like a pancake. The worst part was that there were bits and pieces of body parts in the area. Lance could not see one full corpse, meaning that all of them were either taken somewhere or eaten. Either option was not a good one. The entire college looked like a series of earthquakes and hurricanes occurred all at the same time. The amount of time and effort to rebuild will take years just for this one area. The rest of world was probably in either the same if not worse shape. A bit of sadness appeared in Lance''s heart. Not because of the wreckage, but because of the silence. There was not a single person, or even a single noise that could be heard. No noise, no one was talking, no one was even making a peep. There were not even any birds chirping or insects buzzing. The area was so quite that it had an eerie feeling to it. It felt as though that Lance was the only man alive who was now plagued with everlasting loneliness. The noise of people laughing and conversing as they go from place to place. The one familiar thing that he experienced everyday in his life was now gone. Lance did not enjoy most of the peaceful life he had before. Ever since he was born he felt that he was a bad match for the world. He was different, and so, most things he didn''t like. However, that doesn''t mean he hated everything. Otherwise, there would absolutely no point in his life and he would of been driven mad or into depression. He enjoyed the noise of people, more specifically, his friends. Derek and George, the two friends who were more like family to him than his actual family. Lance missed the laughter, the conversation, and even the arguments from those two. They made everyday for Lance not a bad one. They cared for Lance like nobody has before. Though they did it in their own extreme way, they still cared. Lance had no idea if those two were still alive, but he would not stop hoping. He would search the ends of the earth and passed that for these two friends of his. If there was even a slim chance for they to be reunited, he would take it. Lance knew he had to cherish his memories of their conversations. The friends he had helped him make it through his past life, so he now has to make it through the present one to help them. Using the memories of his friends, he can make it through this silence. The silence was a confirmation to Lance on the present, the future to come, and the past that was now gone. Probably in Lance''s lifetime, he will not be able to enjoy the noise of peace and happiness that he took for granted. That time was now gone. Lance now had to pave his way through the destruction for the future. Lance has to get stronger, so that he will be able to live, to search for George and Derek. The silence will now be his life. No matter where he goes in this world, Lance will always be accompanied by the silence. He has to accept it to survive, because this is the way it is going to be from now on. Chao just floated next to Lance, not disturbing him at all. He could feel Lance''s sadness, however, being born from this world, he had no right to say anything. This silence is all he has experienced. He knew of what Lance was thinking of from his memories, but he has never truly experienced it for himself. This doesn''t mean he desires to experience it though. Chao, being made of chaos, does not like peace and order. He will forever lead a life of chaos and that is what he enjoys doing. He also knows that Lance will live a life of chaos from now on. He will never enjoy peace, even on the day he dies. Though Chao knows this, he lets Lance experience his feelings of regret and sadness now. This is the least he could do as a brother for Lance. Once Lance finishes, the life of never ending chaos will begin. Lance stood there for awhile saying nothing. Minutes passed until Lance finally looked up. He breathed in deeply and then released all the air. His mind was now clear, accepting all the new changes. Lance proceeded to step out into open area with a resolute expression. He was now truly ready to tackle whatever came at him. Chao floated right along side of Lance, ready to follow him to the ends of the earth. ''Alright Chao, where do you think we should head out first?" Lance said as he walked. "We need to avoid people until we level up to a suitable level, like 10." Chao said while thinking. Level 10 will be like establishing a foundation for the future. Leveling up will take a while, especially since Lance evolved, making the amount of experience needed to be greater. Lance thought about where was most likely for people to create a temporary base. The best base would be near fresh water, or a food source. If not those places, then an area that would be able to hold a large amount of people. Though Lance didn''t know the percentage of the total population that survived the first day, he knew one thing about humans. They always manage to group up. Humans must make a hierarchy to stabilize their situation. There is also the fact that people are greedy for power and authority. Coupled with people''s fear of death and abandonment, groups will definitely form up. It is only the second or third day since the apocalypse started, so a base should not have formed just yet. Though there might be a shelter of some sort. If there was then it would have to be at an army base of some sort. Lance looked to the north where he knew there was a governor''s office and an army base near by. Lance started to walk towards the south to start hunting. The farther from the base, the more likely he will not encounter anyone. Lance cannot afford to be distracted by others. He must get stronger. Only if he is stronger, then he can be safe. Once he is safe and secure, he can search for his friends. With a new found resolve, Lance moves step by step to his new life in the new world. Chapter 11: The Stone Prince Lance walked around while watching his surroundings. The college town he was in was now nothing but the ruins of its passed glory. Lance''s college wasn''t famous like an Ivy college, however, it was still well known in the state of Connecticut. Lance thought it would be easy to find enemies. He assumed that, since the buildings were destroyed, the range of his vision would increase. Though, unfortunately, that was just an assumption. What was left of the buildings was still higher than what he could see. The enemies clearly weren''t as numerous as he first thought. Lance has walked openly outside and he has had no luck with a confrontation. ''Why is there nothing around? Seriously, any beast or monster would do! I need to raise my level.'' Lance though annoyed. Suddenly, a howl was heard nearby. Lance was surprised, but the surprised soon turn into excitement. He then took off in the direction of the howl. "Hey, don''t be overconfident!!! I know you are happy to finally find an enemy, but don''t just assume that it is the low level wolf you fought before." Chao yelled as he floated in front of Lance. Lance came to a halt when he heard Chao. Lance never considered a more advanced wolf. He thought that wolves were always low level creatures in games that beginners would farm. Lance turned serious as he realized his foolishness. This was like a game, but not like a game. Some beliefs of the game world and the past world do not apply here. For all Lance could know, there was a high level boss ahead of him. He moved slowly towards the intersection. The howl came from his right, so the wolves should be on the next turn. If they weren''t there, then Lance would have to go searching in the buildings. Lance walked to the side of the building, making as little noise as possible. He peeked at the corner to see what he was dealing with. There, he saw four wolves together moving in his direction. These wolves were slightly bigger than the hungry wolves. They were constantly sniffing the air as they moved closer and closer to Lance. Lance tried to see their levels, but he was too far and couldn''t see anything. Lance did not move from his spot. He was waiting til they got closer to see whether he should run or not. "Um... you know I can go and see the information...." Chao said blatantly while floating in the open without a care. Lance blinked and sighed after he heard that comment. He forgot that Chao is invisible to other things until he reveals himself. "Wait, why don''t you just go and attack them while invisible then?" Lance asked. "When I am invisible, I can''t attack. Also the level of my storm spell is low, so I can use it every so often. The illusion spell at this level can only be used on one person or wolf....works better on people." Chao said with a shrug. Chao flew straight towards the wolves. He stopped and turned upside down to see the wolves'' panel without touching them. ''Alright, these wolves are called Silver Fangs....whats with that name? Oh, wait, their teeth are pretty shiny. Probably shouldn''t get bit by those.'' Chao thought. Lance shook his head and laughed. Thanks to the change with his mind, Lance has started to get used to Chao''s antics. Lance then messaged to Chao, ''Focus, what is their levels?'' ''Oh, yea, let me check. Oooooh, they are all level 9. This will be fun.'' Chao snickered with a devilish grin. Hearing Chao''s message, Lance grinned happily as he has finally got some prey. Lance walked out from his corner with his sword in his hand and eyed the wolves coming towards him. The pack probably noticed him already, so there was no point trying to do a sneak attack. The wolves looked up with a cautious look. Noticing Lance, they started to snarl, bearing their silver fangs. Ferocity filled their eyes. At first, the pack believed that they found some prey when they caught his scent. They noticed that the scent was nothing like they ever smelled before, but they didn''t pay any attention to it. Anything that wasn''t recognized in their territory was considered a prey. However, now that these wolves have seen Lance, they knew things were not going to be as easy. The fact that Lance held a sword was alone enough to cause these wolves to be cautious. The way Lance confidently and arrogantly carried himself though, caused fury to fill theses wolves'' hearts. Lance calmly walked towards the wolves, causing the pack to become even angrier. The wolves soon couldn''t stand back anymore. They charged straight at Lance, ready to sink their teeth straight at his throat. Lance stopped in his tracks to let the wolves charge towards him. The four wolves sprinted and once they got close towards Lance, two of them jumped towards his head. The other two lunged for his body. Lance quickly use Analyze as the wolves were coming towards him. There, he saw the same weak spots glow on their body. With the weak spots though, new information appeared from the wolves. The wolves line of sight showed. It was like a red laser pointing towards Lance''s head and body. Lance was secretly shocked about the new ability he gained. Now he was able to use less thought about where he has to dodge. Lance saw that one wolf was looking at his neck, another was looking at his head, and the last two were looking at his body. ''Looks like they discussed what piece of me they wanted'', Lance thought as he laughed. Lance made a quick step to his left and with his sword in his right hand, swung for the bottom wolf''s weak point on their necks. Lance''s slice hit the wolf''s shoulder and parts of it''s neck causing some blood to spurt from the new wound. The wolf yelped in pain and slid for a few feet. Lance frowned, his cut wasn''t as accurate as he had hoped. He would need a lot more practice before he could get an accurate slice every time. The cartoons on TV made it look easy. Lance didn''t spend much time thinking as he dashed towards the wolves before they could re-position. The wolves landed on the ground and as they were turning around to face Lance, he appeared in front of them. Before the wolves could even react, Lance swiped the wolf on the right with his blade, cutting into its neck. The cut was deeper this time and more on target, causing a critical hit to form over its head. If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation. The wolf tried to jump back to avoid another blow, but Lance was not going to let it get away. He dashed to the right side of the wolf and sliced at the wolf''s stomach. The silver fang couldn''t even yelp as it''s eyes turned lifeless. Blue light flowed into Lance, but he didn''t focus on it. Lance kicked the corpse at the others. The corpse hit the wolf and, in an instant, the three wolves, including the injured one, howled. Lance didn''t know what was happening, but whatever it was, he knew it wasn''t good. Lance charged at the wolf closest to him. He went for a stab straight into the the wolf''s chest. The wolf collapsed in pain as it''s health was slowly depleting. The two wolves sprinted towards Lance to stop him. Lance ripped out the blade from the wolf causing a large amount of blood to fly out. The wolf yelped in pain as Lance was going to go in for the kill. However, the only wolf that wasn''t hurt lunged at Lance and he had to jump away. The other wolf couldn''t move as blood was flowing out continuously. The wolf stayed by the injured, preparing to guard it with it''s life. The other wolf with wound also reached the injured wolf. Lance looked and thought about what would his next action be when he suddenly heard more howls close by. Lance and the wolves looked towards the direction of the howls. On a small rubble hill, there were three wolves. Two more silver fangs and a slightly larger grey wolf. ''Be careful!!! That wolf is apparently called a stone prince wolf at level 13!!!'' Chao messaged Lance urgently. All this time, Chao was observing the situation from the air. When Chao saw these wolves coming he immediately went to investigate. ''A level 13!?!?!?'', sweat dripped down his head as heard the message. A level 13 alpha wolf might not be something he could handle right now. Well, maybe if he fought alone. ''Chao, reveal yourself, so you can help out.'' Lance quickly messaged to Chao. Lance knew he couldn''t be cocky in this situation. ''Aye, sir!!'' Chao said as flew quickly towards Lance. Chao then stopped right next to Lance and glowed purple for a bit. Lance knew Chao revealed himself at that moment because the faces of the wolves couldn''t help but be startled. They didn''t notice Chao at all before he appeared. Chao snickered at the wolves and pointed his hands towards them. Chaos storm Black clouds stared to form high above the three wolves Lance was fighting before. In the clouds, purple lightning was clearly visible flowing throughout the clouds. It appeared to be storing up energy. Lance face kept his serious expression as he was watching the stone prince cautiously, however, inside he was shocked. ''This is the last skill that Chao has.'' Lance thought as he was happy that Chao was on his side. The clouds suddenly stopped expanding which was then followed by electrical sounds. Lightning bolts struck down from the cloud. The wolves couldn''t even react as they were struck by lightning. The injured wolves immediately died as the lightning struck them, while the other one was charred and in bad shape. Blue light appeared from the two and flowed into both Lance and Chao. The wolf wasn''t even able to fall, or have a breath, when lightning that was supposed to strike around the wolves went straight for them. Specifically, for their silver fangs. The silver fanged wolves'' name wasn''t there for show. The fangs were actually made of silver and nothing conducts electricity better than silver. The lightning flowed like it was alive straight into the mouths of the wolves electrocuting their insides. The wolf couldn''t survive the experience and died instantly. Most of the blue light flowed into Chao while a some floated into Lance. Lance couldn''t hide the shock on his face as saw the wolves easily taken care of by Chao. "''Well, that worked better than expected." Chao said pleasantly surprised with himself. He had no idea why the lightning struck the wolves again, but he really didn''t care. Chao flew towards the charred bodies. He searched the bodies including the one Lance killed before. Chao messaged to Lance, "Wow, this haul sucked. They all gave me silver fangs. Other than that, I got two purple potions, more what seems to be money, and some wolf leather." Lance could only laugh for a bit. He then looked at the alpha and it looked towards him and Chao. It was clearly furious that it''s minions were dead. However, it was still cautious towards them, without a pint of arrogance. "This wolf is going to be tough. Chao, see if you can trap it in your illusion, as you wait the time needed to activate the storm again." Lance said to Chao. "Hmm, I still have about 80% of my energy left. So I guess I can do it. I need him to look into my eyes though." Chao explained. "OK, I will try to distract the other two as you catch his attention." Lance said as he started to charge towards the three wolves. Chao quickly followed as he flew after Lance. The alpha, noticing their advance, had a haughty expression. The stone prince suddenly howled extremely loudly. As it howled, spikes of stones constantly appeared from the ground, moving towards Lance and Chao. Lance was shocked and quickly dived towards the right, moving out of the way of the spikes. His analyze couldn''t help with this type of ability. The wolf just looked towards his direction, there were no specifics, and just went to attack his whole body. Dodging will now take a lot more effort. The body movements of the wolf couldn''t help him dodge magic. Magic will just be created and guided to wherever the caster decided. Lance would have to focus on the skill, and not the caster, to avoid taking a hit. The damage probably won''t be small, seeing that the wolf is almost 10 levels ahead of him. ''I can''t afford to get impaled by these spikes.'' Lance thought to himself. Just getting hit once could possibly kill him. If it didn''t, then he could just have Chao heal him. Though he doesn''t know if Chao can heal missing limbs. Chao just floated up, but he also had a frown on his face. He was not expecting to already meet a magic user. This was going to be a whole lot harder. This spell was probably not the only thing in its arsenal... Chapter 12: Unexpected Events
Hi the author here. Sorry for the inactivity. RL sort of got out of wack but now I am on winter break so hopefully I will be posting more. If you have any questions or comments...Go Nuts.
In the desolated street, the Stone Prince was looking down at Lance with arrogance and haughtiness in his eyes. After he saw Lance dodge so frantically after he released his skill, it looked at Lance with disdain. The Stone Prince held his head high like all other beings were below him. Truly befitting the royal name it was given. The wolves beside the Prince were still glaring at Lance however, they didn''t dare to charge without their boss''s command. Lance stood up and looked at the damage of the Prince once again. He looked over the amount of stone spikes that were now a part of the landscape. The spikes stopped a few feet passed the position he was in. Unfortunately, Lance didn''t know if the distance was because of a limit on how far he could move or if it didn''t matter at all. Magic was truly going to be a problem now and in the future. He has no prior knowledge or any information at all regarding magic. It is a whole new field that was thrown at him with no time to prepare. If he doesn''t understand the core concepts of magic, he will not be able to survive long in this New World. But how can you understand something that can make anything out of nothing? Also, it was far more destructive than any blade and probably any gun. Lance complained in his heart but there is nothing he could do. He''ll just have to figure it out later. Lance looked up at the three enemies before him. Two lvl 9 and one lvl 13. This situation was definitely a lot more difficult than anything that he has faced so far. "Well, so far you only really fought two and a half times, so that is not saying much." Chao said as he chuckled. "There are going to be so many more enemies for you." Lance glanced at Chao and sighed. "Whatever, lets just focus on finishing this fight now. Let''s just follow the plan." Chao adopted a serious expression as he nodded his head in agreement. Lance closed his eyes and took in a deep breath as he tightened his grip on his sword. He released his breath and his eyes shot opened as he started to charge towards the rubble hill. The Stone Prince growled, signaling for his two subordinates to stay and protect him. It might see Lance as a inferior insect, but it can not deny the fact that four wolves died from Lance and Chao. Chao flew towards the prince, but, seeing that the other wolves were taking defensive positions, he stopped in the air, observing to see if he can find an opening. The Stone Prince, seeing Lance charging directly at him, howled once again. Lance hearing the howl was instantly wary and focused all his attention on the wolf and his surroundings. The rubble started to tremble and rumble as spikes started to appear once again. Chao looked down as the spikes were approaching Lance. From his height, he could see everything on the battlefield clearly. ''Lance, the spikes are only moving in a straight line, if you just move to the right or left then you will be fine.'' Chao messaged. Lance was shocked after hearing Chao''s message. Was it really that simple? Lance then jumped towards the right and charged once again. The wolf glared at Lance as it continued to send waves of spikes at Lance. Now that Lance knows there is nothing truly special about the spikes, he continued to jump right and left, weaving back and forth up the hill. Lance was ecstatic knowing the fact that the spell was so simple. He felt a surge of confidence well up inside him. Maybe magic might not be a problem after all. What Lance doesn''t take into consideration however is the fact that the spell the Prince is using is one of the simplest spells in the world. There is no need to control it since the spell only travels in one direction. The spell only has destructive properties and that is all. The Stone Prince might be a much higher level then Lance, but compared to the rest of the world, it is bottom tier. Even humans, if they chose or were a given a magic class will learn basic spells at level 10. The Stone Prince being at level 13 was not much stronger. The only spells that Lance has seen are from Chao and the Stone Prince. Chao''s magic is much stronger and better than the Prince because Chao is formed from an evolved being. They are naturally stronger then normal creatures or humans and Chao''s spells gain a Chaotic buff. The capabilities of magic and spells will only continue to grow more frightening as the strength of the user increases. The possibilities are truly endless. Lance looked up to the wolves, killing intent flashed in his eyes. The two silver fangs looked in Lance''s eyes and took step back from fear. However, that fear was short lived as they heard the prince snarl in anger at their fear. The wolves, hearing the Prince, shuddered as they imagined what the Prince would do to them if they ran. That fear completely overshadowed the sliver of fear they felt from Lance. The silver fangs bared their fangs and immediately pounced at Lance. They were angry from the fact that the Prince was angry at them just because of this human. Lance rolled to the side to dodge the two wolves. The wolves landed and snarled at Lance. They slowly moved around Lance, ready to strike at any moment. Lance prepared himself to quickly take out the beasts. Chao seeing that Lance has fulfilled his part of the plan used this opportunity to fly at the Prince. The Prince seeing something move in the corner of his eye, jolted his head straight at Chao giving Chao his undivided attention. The Stone Prince howled as 6 medium sized clumps of stone and rubble floated in the air around it. The balls of stone then flew towards Chao all at once. Chao had a trace of surprise on his face as he saw the spell being formed. The surprise soon turned into a smile as he maneuvered his body to dodge the rocks. Chao had much more control and maneuverability then the Rock ball spell had, so dodging for him was extremely simple. The Stone Prince was caught off guard from the little man''s movements. Before it could react quick enough, Chao appeared and stopped right in front of its face. Chao''s face appearing in front the Prince''s made it jump back a little in surprise and shock. It''s eyes couldn''t help but look at Chao seeing as they were face to face. Chao''s eyes turned into red and purple spirals pulling the wolf''s sanity and conscientiousness into another realm. Stone''s prince was in a daze as it''s mind was trapped in Chao''s illusion. ''Hurry up with them, I can only hold this illusion for five minutes'' Chao messaged Lance quickly. Chao had to focus all of his attention on the illusion. Support the author by searching for the original publication of this novel. Chao''s/Lance''s level was just too low so this was all he could do at this point in time. Chao were just too weak to show the true power of his illusions. Hearing the urgency from Chao, Lance activated his Analyze skill. Lance saw the red line from the wolves'' sight. The silver fang behind Lance pounced at his back. Seeing the red line shift up, Lance turned around and swung his sword at the silver fang. Fear filled the silver fang eyes, it could not dodge out of the way during mid pounce. Blood spurted from its eyes as it yelped in pain while it fell on its side. Both wolves started to tremble as fear started to overtake them. Lance didn''t let this moment go to waste as it ran to the wolf he had just blinded. He crouched down and sliced it throat. Blood poured out of its throat and the wolf couldn''t even make any noise before the flames of life were extinguished forever. Seeing its comrade mercilessly killed right before its eyes, the last silver fang was frozen in fear. Lance stood up and ran towards the last wolf. The wolf tried its best to retain control of its body but it couldn''t stop trembling. Lance stopped right before the wolf and swung his blade with all of his strength down at the wolf. The sword sliced through the silver fangs neck and stopped three fourths of the way through the body. However, the wound was enough to claim the life of the wolf. The light in its eyes slowly dimmed before pitch blackness took over and it fell over. Lance looked down on himself and saw how he was covered in blood and the blood on the blade was slowly dripping onto the ground. Before the world ended he was not afraid of blood however he would of definitely have been afraid of the amount of blood that covered him, but now there was no fear. No fear, but a lot of excitement and blood lust. He looked like a demon born from slaughter. In fact, if anyone saw him, they would immediately start to tremble in fear from the killing intent and blood lust that was overflowing from his body. "Hey, wake up! I don''t know how much longer I can hold the illusion." Chao shouted in Lance''s head. Lance shook his head to get control of himself and woke up from that state of carnage and looked up the rubble mountain to where the last wolf stood. He didn''t hesitate as he ran up the hill to where Chao was. When he finally arrived, he noticed Chao was sweating profusely. He seemed to be really struggling keeping the Prince within the illusion. Lance didn''t know how strong Chao''s illusions are against enemies but he knew it shouldn''t be this quick. ''Maybe its because of the level difference or the fact that it is royalty.'' Lance thought to himself. Lance gripped his sword and swung the blade the same way he did with the previous wolf. He wanted to end this fight the quickest way possible. However, just as the blade was lowering onto the back of the stone prince''s neck, the fur of the prince started to turn into stone. Lance''s blade hit against the stone fur and he was only able to chip the armor just a little bit. Lance was shocked by the development. Before he could understand what had just occurred, Chao who was struggling immensely was blown back as the stone prince finally awoke from the illusion. The prince was absolutely enraged by the fact that it was trapped in an illusion and almost killed. The wolf snarled and stone spikes came out of the ground all around the prince. Lance wasn''t able to dodge fully in time, and as he jumped back, his right side was torn by a couple of stone spikes. Lance yelled in pain and instinctively used his left arm to hold his side. A couple of his ribs were broken and a gash was leaking blood on his side. Lance kneeled down and looked up at the stone spikes at the top of the hill. A couple of them were dyed red from Lance''s blood. The spikes soon started to go back in the ground and the Prince which was in the middle could now be seen once again. Thanks to Lance''s pain resistance, Lance felt only some numbing. The Stone Prince and Lance''s eyes met. The Prince''s eyes were filled with fury and the killing intent from the wolf could be clearly seen. Chao who was blown back from losing control of the illusion finally caught control of his flight. He looked at Lance and was shocked to see that he had been damaged. Chao had no hesitation as it flew towards Lance''s side. Unfortunately, to keep the illusion on the wolf, Chao had to drain his chaos energy so he could not use his healing ability. All Chao could do was try to support Lance with his own body to help him stand. However, Lance pushed him away and stood up by himself. Lance then took out one of his healing potion and drank the red liquid. The wound on Lance''s side started to heal and stop bleeding. The Prince looking down on Lance was about to initiate another attack when all of a sudden it turned its head to the left. Lance couldn''t help but look in the same direction as the Prince. When he looked to the side he couldn''t help but have a bit of sweat drip down his brow. Down the street about a couple of blocks away, Lance saw a very large bronze wolf running down the street. Behind the bronze wolf was other wolves of different sizes and colors. Chao saw small army and couldn''t help but shudder. "Quick, we have to leave. That wolf in the front is called a Royal Guard and its level is 18. We won''t be able to survive the onslaught." Chao yelled. When Lance heard the level of the leader wolf, it only added to the fact that he had no more plans to continue this fight. Both Chao and Lance took no time thinking and ran into into the closest building behind them which was on the other side of the street. Once they ran into the building they didn''t stop running. Lance still wasn''t in peak condition due to his side but he didn''t stop running. His wound healed a lot due to the potion but it wasn''t completely healed. He planned to run from building to building using the many corners to lose his hunters. The Stone Prince seeing the people who had humiliated it and killed all of its comrades howled in anger. commanding all of the wolves to find them. The Royal guard ran towards the the Prince and bowed. The other wolves however went into the doorway to catch Lance and Chao. The Prince would absolutely not let them go. The prince with the power and prestige of its royal blood is going to lead a manhunt for Lance. Lance before couldn''t wait to find wolves to fight. Now the tables have turned and every wolf couldn''t wait to tear them to pieces.
