《Twin Tales》 V1C1: Master of Bread V1C1 Master of Bread
Welcome to Alpha Sensation!!
The first words I received barely registered due to my ecstatic excitement. Ironically, the capitalized words reflected my mental state. If I were to try to define my mental state, it would include the phrases: holy piece of, moTHER OF, shit stained denim dream world, where the fuck is Alice in this wonderland, and so on. ¡ I¡¯m excited, alright? Cut me a break. After entering my login information, I found myself standing in an undecorated room. This was perhaps to help players get used to the new sensation. Of what, you ask? Of virtual reality, I answer. That¡¯s right. Honest to God virtual reality. It¡¯s the stuff out of fiction, a bunch of ones and zeros actually putting you in the game. I tried to wrap and rewrap my head around it. Everything was as close to reality as reality was itself. And it was weird. Weird, because I had to keep telling myself it was just a game. I couldn¡¯t wipe the smile off of my face. The game had just come out, and stores worldwide had started selling it the night before. The awe I had towards his pinnacle of technology, virtual reality, had been on the forefront of my mind leading up to the release. Though the science behind it piqued my interest, I resisted the temptation to research it. It was just too over my head. As I pressed the advancement button, the floating words faded, allowing the next words the now empty space.

The news made me sigh and shake my head. With nothing else to do, I started to think back to the past couple of weeks. The company, Cyclops, out of the blue, announced their amazing technology earlier in the summer. Nonetheless, they announced the VR system/ game combo. The helmet-like console was named Alpha Sensation, perhaps playing off of the fact that it was the first of its kind. The game, Endless Fantasy, was to be the swords and magic kind of fantasy game. In their announcement, they acknowledged the MMO setting and a few basics of the game. It would be level and classed based. It would be the usual quest and grow stronger; however, there was no main quest the game would focus on. It was such as to offer more freedom. I had only a small understanding of the specifications, but I guess I¡¯ll see soon enough. Near the eight minute mark, I noticed a new message had popped up, asking if I wanted a tutorial. I pressed the advancement arrow. It led me through the basics, like opening the character and inventory menus with thoughts. I¡¯ll spare you the details. There was also a copy of the instruction book. Might as well¡ The usual information about health, magic, and stamina. One of these reserves gains 10 points on a level up, class and race notwithstanding. Then came the stats: strength, agility, wisdom, intelligence, charisma, and luck. Every level up gave 5 points to distribute. Again, class and race notwithstanding. It also mentions fame. Fame was how well known you are and can only be increased by one¡¯s actions. Then a hodgepodge of information. High infamy cause bounties to be placed on you. Critical hit ensued when a vulnerable spot was attacked. Players could not choose to be a member of the opposite gender. Yadda yadda, yadda, ya yadda yadda. Then,

I rubbed my hands while mentally clicking the arrow. I was not disappointed. OH, THE POSSIBILITIES! I reigned myself in and filled my name in. It¡¯s my usual tag: Thundatwin. Nodding to myself, I confirmed and then considered the list of races that sprouted. Each manikin was my unchanged appearance in each race. Neat. Humans. Of course. I was already an experienced human outside of the game, so why would I choose this? I considered it, however, as each race had advantages and disadvantages. Unsurprisingly, the humans were the balanced all-rounder race. Booooooriiiiiiiiing. Dwarves. Strong in close combat and proficient blacksmiths but had magic and agility drawbacks. They came tough and had a small damage mitigation. These midg- I mean, this vertically challenged race, had a high connection to earth if the player chose to wield magic despite the drawbacks. After all, the drawback might be worth the mitigation for all I knew about this game. High Elves. Almost opposite to dwarves, the high elves seemed to have magical, especially nature magic, affinity. With a boost to wisdom and intelligence, they made a good glass cannon build, as they would dish damage like no tomorrow, but were quite fragile and would succumb to physical damage easily. Dark Elves. The agile cousins to high elves, they came with an agility boost and an affinity to dark magic. They had night vision, which was cool, but they had a disadvantage in the day, which was not-so-cool. Classic rogue race, though I guess they weren¡¯t limited to just that. Orcs. These green buggers had a fierce appearance. They had an intelligence and wisdom drawback. Surprisingly, there was also a drawback to technology. I had to check the help option, and was surprised to find that they would never get as good stats from their equipment as other races. However, orcs had a generous strength boost and a damage mitigation, and their description even mentioned an intimidation effect. Although this caught my interest, I read further that all of the other races had the potential for this as well so I decided against it. Beastmen. In other words, humans with longer teeth and animal ears. Or so I thought. There was actually a slider to look more bestial. Cooooooool! After messing around with it for a while, I finally resumed my inspection. There were three options, each with similar specs. They all had a nature affinity as well as an agility boost. The dog variant came with a small strength boost but lower wisdom and intelligence. The cat variant had a dark magic affinity but had a small strength disadvantage. They, like the dark elves, had night vision but no day time drawback. The rabbit variant had a further agility boost as well as a charm and luck boost, but majorly lacked in the strength department. Undead. These suckers looked legit. And disgusting. They looked like decayed corpses. Again, a slider for the amount of decay, stopping a little before complete skeletons. They had a large boost to dark magic affinity and were unable to use holy magic. Imagine that. They also came with a large day time drawback. As the booklet said that time passes the same in game, the drawback deterred me a little from the race. ¡ I had my work cut out for me. After a large time full of experimenting, I was wrapped in light that gradually brightened. After the almost blinding light receded, I found myself in the starting town I picked. Specifically, I was in the town¡¯s center, staring at a fountain in front of me. My imagination gears putted along as I began understanding this¡ World? Game? Meh. Anyway,it was obvious that this city had plumbing. Plumbing¡¯s good. I guess I can look forward to the sewer setting dungeons. I took my time, watching other new players appear. By focusing on an individual, their name would appear above them. Each player had to enter a name. Such is the basics. The amount of girls playing the game surprised me, though the race skew was about as much as I expected. The rabbit variant was dominated by females while the human, cat variant, and elven races were about even. There was enough female undead to count on one hand, though no more than that. The other races were male dominated. It was strange to see everyone wearing the same clothing though. A brown t-shirt and brown shorts were in every direction I looked. ¡°There you are!¡± What ho! A voice from behind! ¡°You take forever to make a character, y¡¯know.¡± I spun, cautiously, around to face the masculine voice assaulting my ears. The owner of said voice had the appearance of an orc. The name Lil¡¯ Wub Wub sprouted above his figure as I trained my eyes in on him. My response came naturally and flowed towards him. ¡°¡¯Sup brah.¡± (T) Witty, no? Prolific language aside, he is, indeed, my brother. In fact, he is my twin brother. ¡°¡¯Sup brah my brown gift-wrapped, orc ass! I had half a mind to ditch you and wander around to find a quest like the noob I am!¡± (W) ¡°Yeah yeah, you¡¯re an impatient gift to NPCs everywhere, what with your questing and squirrel-like attention span. Would you rather me kiss your feet, or the ground they walk on? ANYWAY. Catch me up to speed.¡± (T) ¡°My feet, thanks for asking. Starting out, you¡¯ve nothing to your name. However, you can hit up the adventurer¡¯s guild and they¡¯ll give you your rightly noob items. You get a choice of weapons, and since we have the Beginner class, you can equip any type of gear. But wait, there¡¯s more! You¡¯ll get bread. A whopping ten loafs.¡± (W) ¡°Lead the way, O all-knowing Master of Bread.¡± (T) This brought a snicker to the crowd around us. We didn¡¯t think much about it, though, because this is how our speech usually goes. There is a difference, if I might add, because we usually have the same voice. We were identical twins IRL, but that''s about all you''ll hear about our lives. Why we don¡¯t sound the same now, you ask? This is because I choose the beastman race. Specifically, the rabbit variant. Why the rabbit variant, you proceed to ask? Because I wanted to, you curious sack of unending questions. I happen to lean towards the luck stat, since I wondered what it would do, because only a close-minded individual would really believe that the information book would give all of the information out. But we don¡¯t have to worry about close-mindedness, do we, my questioning companion? As I follow my brother, I start to inspect my character. I made him slightly skinny with tight and subtle muscles. My fur was a dirty blonde color and was sprouting on my hands and faded out further up my forearms. My nails were almost claws. I remember glimpsing at my face during the creation part. What strikes first is how angular the face looks without ears. Instead, I had rabbit ears the length of my forearm sticking straight up. I get distracted wiggling them around¡ I mean, growing accustomed to my new body! Yeaaaaah¡ Anyway, the hearing with these things are incredible, yet I don''t find myself overwhelmed. Which is nice. Unauthorized reproduction: this story has been taken without approval. Report sightings. Then I remembered my tail. I tried twisting my body to see it and was surprised to find my body¡¯s flexibility pretty high. And then I started to experiment with my fluffy tail, once again distracting myself. My thoughts drift towards my brother, as I wonder what his future build looks. Of course, he would choose a healing class, as he finds the role amusing and he is, for the most part, predictable. From there, my thoughts steer towards my future build¡ so many choices¡ I then notice the three foot bubble of personal space around my brother and I. I stare questioningly at the faces giving us such a wide berth. Some, I noted, we''re just going with the flow; however, most of the people we glancing away with worried faces and sweat dripping down their faces. It was almost as if they were trying to not catch my eye¡ Or my brother¡¯s. I took a closer look at his face and was rewarded with a sudden realization. Not only do we sound much different, we look a lot different. Specifically, my womb-mate had altered his appearance a lot. To put it bluntly, he was fucking ugly. His face was scrunched up and was centered with an abnormally large nose. His bottom lip looked permanently fixed open with a line of drool accumulating. He was missing an eyebrow and his pointed ears stuck out, demanding to me noticed. To top it all off, he was as bald as he was green. And he was a brilliant hue of puke green. In barely succeeded in holding in my laughter, I started connecting lines in my head. ¡®So this is the effects of intimidation¡¡¯ My thoughts are interrupted by a ding. I look up towards a bell ringing, indicating that we had stepped through a door into the adventurer¡¯s guild. I glanced around the room after criticizing my distractive qualities. There was an advancing queue in front of us, towards the back of the room. Tables, full and otherwise, were to the right. There were stairs nearby, and a doorway I assumed that led towards a kitchen. There was the lull of a multitude of conversations going on. I shot my brother a questioning glance. ¡°This place doubles as an inn for low levels, with the whole three day ban on leaving the starter city and all.¡± I nodded in understanding. ¡°The rooms are free, but the meals cost a decent chunk out of the silver and 50 copper starting balance.¡± (W) ¡°Yeah, but sounds better than bread¡¡± (T) The murmur from eating area and the queue filled the silence between us. I don¡¯t mind; the choice of my future weapon is on my mind. We get to the counter, and I choose a sword. It¡¯s an ironically dull choice, but it compliments my brother¡¯s staff. It, being my sword, deals a decent 4-6 damage. I opened my inventory and equipped it.
Skill Learned: Sword Mastery
¡°Thank you for dropping by, Thundatwin, and good luck on your adventure!¡± I responded after her, thanking the female NPC at the counter with a mighty grin before walking away to allow the next in line to their Christmas present. I then noticed she used my name. I would say that the name came from me being the younger twin, lightening before thunder, after all, but it would be a petty excuse. The reason came after the name. I shook my head to get my focus again. I opened my character screen to spy my new skill¡¯s details.

My face must have shown my disappointment. Specifically, it must¡¯ve reflected the expression one would make when catching a whiff of a three-day-old, yet still potent, fart, because Wubs started to laugh. I was made his support, as his core would allow no action close to standing on his own. Finally, when he was done laughing, ¡°Geez! Have some mercy! This may be a game, but the pain in my sides feel real enough! I¡¯m guessing it¡¯s about the weapon mastery?¡± (W) ¡°Bingo! Show him what he¡¯s won, John!¡± (T) ¡°Gameshow host besides, you and I both know that it¡¯ll be a great help later on.¡± (W) I grunted, showing my understanding while still conveying my displeasure. At this point, we had just gotten out of the building. I turned and asked my brother what was on my mind. ¡°So what¡¯s the plan now, MB? Surely, it will include dragon vanquishing and the like.¡± (T) ¡°O ye of little level, what else is there to do, but to start with the slime equivalent? Besides, it¡¯s not like we can leave the city yet. I¡¯m down to find a quest and get closer to having a class¡ and by the way, MB?¡± (W) ¡°Master of Bread, your official title, of course!¡± (T) ¡°¡ Mhmm.¡± (W) ¡°Whatever, I know you love it, so you¡¯re welcome. Anyway, wanna split up to find some quests?¡± (T) ¡°Sure, lemme just send you a party and friend invite.¡± (W) Affirming both spontaneous windows added a new subject to my peripherals¡ which I guess I should explain. In the top left was my name, level, experience, health, mana, stamina, and satiety, the latter five in the form of bars. Just added below was his information, though it was limited to his name, level, health, and mana. At the top right, there¡¯s a minimap, my position in the middle in the form of a yellow arrow. My arrow overlapped another, colored blue, which had to be my brother. The map showed the barebones of my surroundings, but it only displayed what I myself have seen. Moving on, we parted. I took the time to observe the people around me. Some people decided to go all out with their character design, which made for a cool sight. Still, the amount of brown clothing¡ I set my mind and decided to investigate the game¡¯s natives, that is to say, the NPCs. They were walking around, taking care of their business, dressed in simple attire. That was a lot better to see than the brown clothing¡ There was even an occasional guard in their chainmail uniforms. I took the chance to question one for a quest, to no avail. With a sigh, I made my way to a nearby inn or tavern, following the directions I¡¯d gotten from the local NPCs. I saw a female beast(wo)man dip into the inn as I walked around the corner. She was the dog variant. I caught a glimpse of her username as the door almost swung closed on her wild-looking hair. Surprisingly, it missed both her hair, and her tail. St- something or other. I checked the sign hanging up before following her in. The Braying Mare. Clich¨¦, but fitting. I poked my head in just in time to hear, ¡°What was that about my mom¡?¡± This oughta be good! I didn¡¯t see who said it, but a loud ¡°BAR FIGHT!!¡± echoed around the entire tavern. I relayed the message out to the crowd and made my way into the brawl. I made my way over to the girl I saw walk in. I began to piece together that she started the whole ordeal, insulting her orc enemy¡¯s dear mother. It was three against o- make that two against one, as one of the orc¡¯s goons just went down with a chair to the head before getting up and chasing the perpetrator. The dog woman rolled under the orc¡¯s swing and ended up behind him. She took the chance to knock his feet out from under him. With a crash, he ended up on the ground. She moved to straddle his chest and lock his arms under her and rained down punches on his only-a-mother-could-love face¡ which might be the reason he was insulted enough to start a fight. I tackled the other goon, an undead, because c¡¯mon. 2-on-1? On a girl? Luckily, he was surprised at her aggressiveness and had just begun to move in on her. I moved in and tucked my shoulder and lifted when it hit, throwing him onto a table. I moved in and clenched the rotting hair sticking up from only half of his head and slammed it on the table. Then, I grabbed the closest thing to me, which happened to be a mug full of beer¡ I think. I shrugged, assuming now would be an opportune moment to start drinking. I guzzled the mug while the undead, named L0ckJ4w, was still dazed. Finishing the beverage off, which I came to realize was root beer, I smashed my ugly mug into his ugly mug. I picked him up and threw him into a storm of fists. I was lucky that his rotting flesh didn''t weigh too much, as my stature would have a tough time otherwise. I announced my dominance with a mighty belch. Root beer¡¯ll do that to ya. I jumped a little as a massive dwarf woman bested my root beer-fueled belch with a burp that came closer to a roar than an exhale of gas. I couldn''t divert my attention too much, so the only thing I could tell was that it wasn''t turd colored. We squared off, the brute and I, and cautiously inched closer. She dodged my jab by backing up just out of reach. My follow-up jab grazed the side of her head, and then everything went slow motion. I saw her move in, her shirt straining as it tried to contain her power-infused muscles as they formed into my personal bane. She grunted, letting lose a gut wrenching punch. Ironically, the phrase was quite literal, as I noticed her aim was my stomach. ¡®This is gonna suck¡¡¯ I clenched my eyes just in time to be lifted off of my feet. My breath was left behind as I flew four feet back and crashed into the wall. My back took the brunt of the impact, but my head was still in motion. That is, until it collided with the wall. A/N: Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy! V1C2 The Righteous Mission V1C2 The Righteous Mission (Lil¡¯ Wub Wub¡¯s POV) As we split, I started to aimlessly meander in the general direction away from my dear brother. I wasn''t too surprised to see him use a face close to our original. Neither was it stranger to see him with a blonde colored hairstyle similar to his own. He seemed to be a natural at moving his new ears though. That, or he should be writing a well-worded thank you letter to the system for saving him from yet another embarrassment. That was the difference between us. He takes this as just a game, while I take the more mature route. I only allow myself to degrade to his level when we are around each other. Everyone needs a good laugh every once in a while, right? However, as soon as we separate, it¡¯s back to my usual manner. Right now, the scowl on my character¡¯s face felt natural. What could be more mature than an angry orc? I walked away from another scared citizen. One thing I didn¡¯t take into account with this character was the intimidation effect. I sure hope my brother is doing a better job, because no NPC wanted to even talk to me, much less ask me for help. I rounded a corner into an alley. It was deserted, not that I cared too much. My eyes fell to the only noteworthy thing in the alley: a paint can/ brush combo with a note beside it. Being the mature citizen I am, I stooped over to pick up the load and read over the letter to try to find out whose supplies I had chanced upon. Perhaps this would even lead to a quest. The letter ever so helpfully said, ¡®You know what to do.¡¯ No signature or anything. Greaaaaat. I glanced around as my mind raced. What could it possibly mean? Anyhow, I decided to put the paint to a mature use. Maturely. -Two hours, countless dick drawings, and a couple of well-placed mustaches later¡- ¡®Mature? Who said anything about being mature? This is a game, dammit! It¡¯s meant to be enjoyed!¡¯ My mind was making some excellent points against my conscience. Though, it probably didn¡¯t have to try too hard, as there were no counter points being made. An arrow thudding into the wall right behind my fleeing hide reminded me of more pressing matters. ¡°Get the miscreant!¡± ¡®Ahh, guards. The ever-so-easy-to-trick enforcer of the law.¡¯ Wait, that¡¯s not quite right¡ ¡®Ahh, guards. The amateur artists that are just envious of my exceptional artistic masterpieces.¡¯ There we go! They had finally caught me painting my ninety-whatever genitalia. Which leads to our current not-so-high-speed pursuit. There are five of them, currently, slowly inching closer to me. I was having a bit of trouble with my new bulky body. They were being led by their captain, and each had his or her crossbow out. I dashed around a corner leading to yet another alley, throwing a glance to my pursuers. Hah! I was finally putting some distance between myself and the five! ¡ Wait, five? Let¡¯s see, I saw the two beastmen leading the group, followed closely by the female elf. Next was the human, and slowly trudging behind them all was the dwarf. But where was¡ The captain! I skidded to a halt as his figure blocked my exit. His human face had a couple of veins showing bright red against his slightly tanned skin. His brow furrowed deeply. He was almost handsome, if not for the dripping, midnight black mustache above his lip. Well-placed, no? I chanced upon his sleeping figure outside the guardhouse and couldn¡¯t resist it! In fact, I made the entire guardhouse my mustache playground, painting them all over the bounty notices and across the guards¡¯ faces. My pride was the elf¡¯s bushy-looking beard, flanked by the string belonging to the monocle over her left eye. Cut off by the captain in front of me and his lackeys behind, my only escape was above. I took off towards the wall, as I was a firm parkour enthusiast. I practiced my rolling every day!... What? I never said I was good at it¡ Whatever lacking skills I had seemed to be just enough, as I was out of my pursuers¡¯ grasp! They couldn¡¯t possibly scale a wall in that armor! I¡¯m home free!
For outrunning the guards, you¡¯ve gained +1 AGI + infamy! Good job, you scoundrel!
Congratulations! You currently have the highest infamy in the game! Keep up the dirty work.
I closed the windows and scampered across the rooftops. I only stopped when I believed to be far enough away. My pant-filled giggles were interrupted by a resounding one-man applause. I looked towards the source to find a pale face sprinkled with freckles and wrapped in a bushy red beard. The beard was real, so don¡¯t go asking where I got a can of red paint. His hearty laugh seemed infectious, but it was not very effective. My thoughts only allowed one subject to be on my mind, which spilled out in a question towards the ginger. ¡°So why the skirt?¡± (W) His faced and applause froze. His expression plummeted as he replied in a heavy Scottish accent. ¡°It¡¯s a kilt, it is! Aye, no man¡¯s a man without one!¡± ¡°Oh yeah? And where¡¯s your bagpipe?¡± (W) ¡°I left it at- Wait, no! I¡¯m here on business!¡± ¡°And what business is that, oh Celtic god of kilts?¡± (W) ¡°That¡¯s MISTER Celtic god of kilts! And I¡¯m not even over kilts! Name¡¯s Dwyn, Celtic god of pranks! And you, sonny, just caught my interest!¡± (D) ¡°Seriously?¡± (W) ¡°Aye! I¡¯m here to make you my minion!¡± (D) I thought about it. Honestly, I wasn¡¯t expecting a god of mischief. A god of devilish looks, sure. Goddess of wisdom, cool. A god of mischief was almost as likely as a god of meekness. Still, one god¡¯s as good as the next. ¡°Where do I sign?¡± (W) ¡°As if you had a choice, laddie! The next time you see me will be when you¡¯re ready for your class! Oh, and I¡¯ve also got your first quest. I need you to spread my teachings, namely, pranking the crap out of everyone you come across!¡± (D) I¡¯d already agreed, and it wasn¡¯t like anyone else was going to give me a quest. ¡°Alright, but on two conditions.¡± (W) A look of surprise spread across his face, before it was invaded by a smile. Then, his laugh boomed out, followed by, ¡°Oh, that¡¯s grand! An orc? Making demands to a god?¡± Booming laugh again. ¡°Alright, I¡¯ll bite. What have ya got?¡± (D) ¡°First, the fitting garments of a Celtic god¡¯s minion. Namely, a kilt of my own.¡± (W) ¡°Comes with the class! And the second?¡± (D) A smile spread across my face. ¡®Man, wait ¡®til my brother sees this¡¡¯ (Thundatwin¡¯s POV) Freezing cold water brought my forced power nap to an end. Oddly enough, it helped with the pounding on the back of my head. After the shivering subsided and I could communicate past blubbering, I stared up at a dark elf. He lacked a name hovering just above his head, making him an NPC. ¡°I¡¯m sorry Prince Charming, but that was hardly a kiss to wake Sleeping Beauty. Wanna walk out so we can start take two?¡± (T) A snort met my joke. ¡°Sleeping Beauty wouldn¡¯t have caused a bar fight in my fine establishment which ruined most of my tables and mugs. Also, she probably would have fared better than you. Now get up, you owe me a silver for the room and wood for the furniture.¡± ¡°You call this a room? It¡¯s hardly worth being called a dungeon. I wouldn¡¯t be surprised if you kept the skeletons of your victims under the bed!¡± (T) ¡°Seeing your brown clothes, I don¡¯t think you could stay in any other rooms. And you can check under the bed yourself.¡± I actually did check, to his amusement. But alas, ¡®twas naught betwixt the bed and the creaky floor but a couple of cobwebs. Straightening myself upright, I paid him the silver, shedding a tear. I checked the time and was surprised that I was out cold for just over four hours. Refocusing, we proceeded with the conversation. ¡°So, back to the brown clothes, how do you expect me to get firewood?¡± (T) ¡°That, son, is your problem. I need five stacks of firewood. You can earn the money to buy some, or you can hunt the treants in the nearby forest. They¡¯re at level five, so prepare yourself. You¡¯ll have to work it out with the other brawlers to see who is getting how much.¡± Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. At that, the dogwoman came in through the door. She was probably listening to the whole conversation, I noticed. ¡°¡¯Sup. Thanks for the help last night, by the way. The five stacks will be split between the two of us and those three guys from last night.¡± At that, a window opened in front of me.

Thundatwin: hey, just woke up (long story). finally got a quest! you should get the share now.
Lil'' Wub Wub: I¡¯m glad you¡¯re having better luck than I am¡ I spent all night looking for one. I just accepted it by the way.
Thundatwin: it''s cause you''re ugly.
Thundatwin: i¡¯m about to invite this chick to the party. she started the fight, after all¡
Lil'' Wub Wub: I would be mad, but you¡¯re actually right about that. And cool. I¡¯ll start walking. What''s the bar called?
Thundatwin: get this. the Braying Mare.
Lil'' Wub Wub: Okay WOW. Cliche much?
Thundatwin: twas what i said. anyway, see you soon.
Lil'' Wub Wub: Alright, but don''t forget to work on your explanation. I''m hungry for details.
Wub Wub joined your quest!
The girl in front of me, who I assumed was StephOFF, rose an eyebrow at me. She probably got the window as well. ¡°Called in reinforcements.¡± (T) ¡°I can see that.¡± She said. ¡°He said he¡¯d be here momentarily. I¡¯d offer a drink, but I doubt the drinks one can get for 50 copper are very tasty.¡± (T) She shrugged in response. I sent her a party invite, which she accepted. The ordeal was uneventful. With nothing else to do, I observed Steph, the only other person in the room; the dark elf was long gone. She seemed to have built up quite a bit of money, as she was no longer in the noobie clothes. She was in some kinda green poncho, which oddly suited her. She had tan skin and wild black hair. We were saved from the awkward atmosphere by the arrival of my brother. He came striding in with an arrogant attitude. ¡°No freakin¡¯ way¡¡± (T) I had found the reason why. Above his head was his usual name and level; no surprises there. On another line beneath it were the words ¡®Master of Bread.¡¯ ¡°I thought you¡¯d like it.¡± (W) ¡°Cool! I didn¡¯t think anyone would have a title yet!¡± Steph chimed in between chuckling. ¡°Oh, right! Wub Wub Steph, Steph Wub Wub.¡± (T) My manners never fail! ¡°A level three? Nice.¡± (W) ¡°Yeah, that¡¯s what a couple of quests around town will get you.¡± This brought a look of endless misery from my brother. ¡°But I¡¯m still not sure about level five treants¡¡± (S) I explained to my perplexed brother our quest¡¯s details, as well as the events of the night before. He had a couple of laughs, especially about my description of the dwarf, who had miraculously grown a couple of feet since last night. With nothing better to do, we went on our way. Wub Wub seemed to be in high spirits. On an unrelated subject, someone went crazy with graffiti. It was probably some middle schooler playing the game. They have a strange obsession with drawing penises for some reason. Steph seemed to find the whole situation humorous, asking, ¡°What kind of immature person could have done such a thing?¡± in a sarcastic manner before switching to a series of laughter. We got to the eastern gate near the guardhouse. It was the closest to the forest. Suddenly, it was as if we hit an invisible wall. I might¡¯ve seemed to have been that way because we actually did hit an invisible wall. The following realization hurt more than the wall. I had forgotten. We can¡¯t leave the town for another two days. A female guard walked up and explained that we were a little too inexperienced to leave yet. At least, she seemed to be a female¡ She had a pretty face and a high voice; however, she was an elf, and male elves are known to appear quite feminine. The facial hair seemed to point to a male disposition. The monocle she had threw me for a loop. Until I noticed that it and the facial hair had been painted on. I could also see what looked like a signature on her jawline. Regardless, I resisted the urge to laugh and apologized for taking her time. We trudged back into town.
For using your mental fortitude to resist the urge to laugh, you gained a stat point! +1 WIS
I released my laugh now, receiving a smug smile from Wubs and a startled expression from StephOFF. The laughter resided, I sigh out ¡°I feel bad for that lady¡¡± (T) Wub Wub avoided my gaze while StephOFF tilted her head in confusion. ¡°Lady¡?¡± (S) ¡°The guard? Just now?¡± (T) ¡°But he had a beard¡¡± (S) My brother and I tried to explain to her the unfortunate guard¡¯s situation between giggling and gasping for breath. She joined in shortly as the message finally went across, renewing our chuckling vigor. We made our way to a nearby street vendor and paid for a couple of apples. ¡°Ahhh! Much better than bread!¡± (T) To let the passersby know, I let the juice adventure down my chin. Totally on purpose. I watched my satiety bar slowly fill as I chewed. The need to eat in a game was something that I¡¯d have to consider. Making our way back to the bar, we decided discussing classes. ¡°So what¡¯re you guys thinking about for classes?¡± (S) I thought for a moment. This game has endless opportunities through their unique class system. Every player starts out as a beginner until they reach level 10. From there, the class hunting starts. By this, I mean that there are near countless options for a combat class. This game has from elemental wizard to a pirate. It spelled out trouble for my indecisive tendencies. From there, you start as a level 1 whatever. Once you hit level 50 though, you get a class advancement quest. As the game developers didn¡¯t want the crafting classes to be stuck in a town for their playing career, they made the option for a subclass. It, too, seemed limitless, though it had less impressive classes. These ranged anywhere from cook to blacksmith. Though you could definitely prepare food without having the subclass, you¡¯d have a harder time without the system assist and extra stat bonuses. For now, I just went with my go-to answer. ¡°Dunno.¡± (T) ¡°Uhuh¡ and you?¡± (S) ¡°Healer?¡± (T) ¡°Healer. What about yourself, Steph?¡± (W) ¡°I want a class where I can just keep slashing!¡± (S) We both sighed at her simplicity as we entered the Braying Mare. The owner seemed upset seeing us so soon. ¡°What¡¯re you doing back here so soon¡?¡± ¡°Guards won¡¯t let us out to hunt. Is there any way we can get it later?¡± (T) ¡°Sure, but I¡¯m gonna hafta put you to work in the meantime.¡± Did his eyes just glint¡? A/N: As you¡¯ve probably guessed, the characters in this story are based off of my brother and I, as well as some friends of mine. So if you have problems with one of the characters, just know you¡¯re crushing someone¡¯s hopes and dreams! :D But really, it¡¯s just loosely based. By no Means is StephOFF that chill IRL. But her simplicity is fairly accurate, if I do say so myself! ANYWAY (sorry warhawx), hope you enjoy! V1C3 To the Slums! A/N: Apologies in advance for the serious parts of this chapter... I¡¯m trying to get across some important topics, including the NPC adventurers, which I plan to make an important part of the game. V1C3 To the Slums! (Thundatwin''s POV) I logged on as soon as I could. It was the last night before all of the players were allowed to go out and everyone was excited. I knew, because I was helping in the bar. Still. We¡¯d been working here for the past two days. The barkeep, who I came to know as Enzo, had decided that he needed Steph¡¯s help in the bar as a server. Surprisingly, she said that she doesn¡¯t have too many issues with the drunks. I was given the task of cleaning rooms during the day and switching to cleaning mugs and dishes during the meals and almost all night. I chuckled quietly to myself as I remembered what Enzo said to Wubs. ¡°You have to ugliest mutt I¡¯ve ever seen! There¡¯s no way you¡¯re helping in the bar! You, whatever-your-name-is, are gonna be cleaning rooms and other shitty jobs!¡± After saying that, he started mumbling to himself in elven. At least, I assumed it was elven, as it sounded as pompous and stuck-up as French. At the news, Wub Wub shed a tear. I shuddered as I watched it mix in with his constant line of drool and accumulate on his chin. He perked up a couple of hours later when he found out Enzo didn¡¯t care about his pranks as long as he cleaned it up. Anyway, we¡¯d both gotten pretty close to StephOFF and even traded friend invites. The party chat helped a lot with the boredom. She wasn¡¯t here yet, though I¡¯ve gotten accustomed to it at this point. While my brother and I only stopped for eating and bathroom breaks before jumping right back in, she took her time. The sleep feature of the game was handy for nonstop playing. Steph usually entered the game about an in-game hour after us, though that¡¯s just because the game was four times faster than IRL. The science of which, again, went over my head. Trying to convert the hours was starting to hurt my head, so I declared to only think in game-time. The bar was hitting that time where it was filling up for the drinking hours. A few of the people staying here retreated to the sanctuary of their rooms, while most migrated down to join the non-residential crowd from around town. One of which was Ulga. Remember the Dwarf that totally schooled me in my new beginnings? That¡¯s Ulga. We¡¯d actually gotten to know each other pretty well, as she was a regular at the bar. Though she never apologized, I never expected one. I mean, who expects someone to apologize for participating in a brawl? Speaking of brawls, that was actually Ulga¡¯s class. Apparently, the game was almost identical for NPCs, as they could choose classes and take quests. There were some that even ignored the permanent death penalty and became adventurers. We could see them fighting just outside of the town gates, mocking us with each slash, showing off the awesome loot they picked up¡ The sound of a splash with a side of screams brought me out of my grudges. ¡°Hahahaha! He got another one then!¡± (U) With the sound of a plop and the laugh of grouchy bear, Ulga claimed her regular seat at the bar. Which just so happens to be in front of me. So rather than our charming personalities, we got close because of necessity. I grunted affirmation and slid her the usual. Wub Wub strode down the stairs for two high-fives from us. He was all smiles as he made his way back up, not even saying a word. Not that he needed to. Two dumbass players started to shout at each other and stand close to each other in a threatening pose. Ulfa¡¯s eyes pleaded in my direction. I shook my head with a smirk as I made my way closer to the soon-to-be-scuttle. They were so focused on shouting insults at each other that they didn¡¯t notice me walking closer. I grabbed both of them by their hair and slammed the empty craniums together. ¡°If you wanna fight, take it outside.¡± (T) Slightly dazed, they apologized to me and then to each other. The atmosphere relaxed as I made my way to the pouting Ulfa. *Ding*
Bar fight avoided! You make barkeeps everywhere proud. +10 Exp +5 copper Increase in relationship with Enzo the Barkeep
¡°Aw c¡¯mon! Can¡¯t we have at least one brawl?¡± (U) ¡°Not again! I¡¯m not going to force another noob to give up most of their money just so they can take my job!¡± (T) I don¡¯t really know why I defended my position here. This job paid crap. Well, not literally. We got 10 copper an hour, and seeing as how a single loaf of bread was 10 copper, it was just barely worth working here. In fact, I wouldn¡¯t be working here if not for the free meals. We resumed our chatting for a bit. Most of the topics were her sharing stories of the few adventures she¡¯d been on. Sometimes, she¡¯d mention techniques or the right way to punch. It was like reading a Brawling for Dummies! book. It was a pleasant conversation, now and then interrupted by the call for another beer or seconds for a meal. Then, a light signaled the arrival of Steph. She smiled and made her way over at the sight of Ulfa. For whatever reason, the Dwarf was like a role model to the girl. I made my way over to Enzo, leaving to girls to their conversation. Steph¡¯s arrival made me realize that an hour had passed. And it was pay time. Wub Wub arrived at the same time as I did. Enzo finished up with a customer and turned to us. ¡°Well, here¡¯s your pay. Good job stopping that fight boy, I threw in some extra copper for that.¡± (E) I accepted the money and watched my experience bar fill slightly. However, as I was about to turn, Enzo continued talking. ¡°You guys have been here for a while, and I think I can trust you with a personal matter.¡± He signaled over to Steph, who came over looking confused. ¡°I need you three to deliver something for me. It¡¯s in bad part of town, so I asked Ulfa to go with.¡± (E)

¡°Sure!¡± I answered for our group. ¡°Then let¡¯s get the show on the road!¡± (U) Ulfa, now in leather armor, walked up and announced. *** We started to make our way to the point on our maps. The conversation was centered around Ulfa and Wubs, as they hadn¡¯t the time to get to know each other too well. While completely ignoring the conversation, I began the start assigning roles. I glanced at our levels. Steph and I had both grown two levels, putting her at 5 and myself at 3. She must¡¯ve been pretty close to leveling up. Wubs, however, only gained a single level, blaming it on the fact that he neither participated in a brawl, which had gotten me a few points in EXP, nor had he been able to earn extra experience for stopping any brawls. I shifted my thoughts towards Ulfa. I didn¡¯t know what level she was, and I thought it rude to ask. I was left experimenting and observing. We stopped at a couple of shops, per my request, so that I could grab a couple of things. We all bought some apples and a couple of potions. We didn¡¯t know how long this could quest might take, so we were being cautious. Wubs had been saving up for a spell, so we stopped by the mage¡¯s guild. Unfortunately, it was quite the pathetic healing spell, only restoring 15 HP to a single target for 10 MP. Worse yet, it had a 2.5 second cast time. I took a good look at our team and decided to try my hand at archery. Granted, I hadn¡¯t even tried out my sword, but I thought it redundant to have three melee roles. I bought a cheap bow and a couple of arrows. How hard could it be, right? (Lil'' Wub Wub¡¯s POV) We started walking again. To fill the time, I pulled out the spell book. It was a onetime use that instantly gave one the knowledge of the skill. However, there¡¯s still the book. Who am I to pass up some quality literature? The book was pretty interesting actually. It talks about the uses of healing magic on a basic level. My reading was soon interrupted by a voice in front of us. ¡°Let¡¯s make this easy.¡± I glanced up and noticed that we had reached the slums. The stream of people had ceased, and the few people actually on the road wouldn¡¯t meet our eyes and ignored the whole event. ¡°Just give me the package. I know you have it.¡± The owner of the voice was a cloaked figure in front of us, though it was clear that the voice was male. The hood dropped, revealing a shifty looking human in front of us. No one attempted to try and converse with sir shifty though. ¡°Alright, we can just take it from you then.¡± Multiple people stepped out from behind of their hiding spots. Most of them were in front of us, while one or two could be seen holding daggers behind us. Our group shifted in response, the ladies taking a stance in front of me while my brother stood to my side. He unslung his bow and prepared an arrow, facing the people behind us. Steph gripped her sword while I pulled my staff from my inventory.

¡°Watch out, I can only heal you four meters away.¡± (W) Thundatwin released an arrow, marking the start of the encounter. I watched as it flew by his target. I mentally rolled my eyes as I helped him at the rear, leaving the five bandits in front to the ladies. I observed a human come in with an attack. I blocked a sloppy overhead slash with my staff, both hands on either end, stopping the dagger between them. I kicked out and managed to push my enemy back a bit. At least, that¡¯s what I meant to do. He was knocked back a couple of feet. I¡¯ve got to get used to this orcish strength¡ A red 3 appeared, floating up past his name and level.
Starved Bandit Level 2 12/15
An arrow hit his thigh before I moved in for a follow up. The arrow chipped off another 5 of his health. I swung my staff wide from the left, effectively preventing the other bandit from getting closer while it continued on its path to smack into the first bandit. It hit him right in the chest, shaving off another 2 of his health. I shifted forward and right some to put distance between the still unharmed bandit and myself as I tried to finish off my opponent. As an added bonus, it opened up William Tell¡¯s line of sight to the new target. I gripped the middle of my staff and swung one end towards my target. He blocked but couldn¡¯t stop the other end with only his dagger. I finished him off with an uppercut that connected my staff to his chin. The body dropped while I turned my attention to my brother. Thundatwin was struggling with his bandit foe. They were grappling, and I saw a couple of arrows already in the bandit. One had hit his hand, causing him to drop his dagger. I checked my party¡¯s health and cussed, starting a healing spell on Steph. She¡¯d dropped dangerously low, sustaining only 20 out of her 120 points. Catching my breath, I fell into my role of healer, making sure to kick the bandit still hanging on to life against my brother in between spells. A/N: Well, I feel pretty confident at my first attempt at fighting scenes. I¡¯m thinking about wrapping the fight up with Steph¡¯s POV. Or maybe Ulfa. I dunno. Thoughts? Also, hit me up with thoughts on classes. I wanna hear some ideas. Don¡¯t make ¡®em too OP though. V1C4 Innocence Lost V1C4 Innocence Lost (StephOFF¡¯s POV) We stood with our weapons drawn, waiting. I glanced over at Ulfa and saw that she had some kind of brass knuckles. I heard her mumble, ¡°What idiots. Not one of them even brought a bow.¡± (U) I heard a sound behind me which seemed to start the onslaught. The main guy that block our path came straight for me as well as one of his lackeys. The other three lackeys went straight for Ulfa.
Starved Bandit Level 2 15/15
Starved Bandit Leader Level 3 30/30
The leather armor I was wearing didn¡¯t too much confidence¡ Well, I did get it on sale after all. I focused my attention on the leader, as he¡¯d deal more damage. He came in quick, closely flanked by his lackey. I backed out of the reach of his swipe and noticed a follow-up dagger aimed at me. I ignored it, trading it for a hit on the boss. The red 3 rose ominously, accompanied by his grunt. What! My mind was reeling. The window thingy said 4-6 damage! I started grumbling about his armor. The slash to my side didn¡¯t help with my mood, as I watched a second attack fall. Two 3s quickly rose. *** The battle flowed so fast, I couldn¡¯t keep up with what was happening. I barely found openings to hack at the boss, while the opposite was true for my enemies. I watched my health drop; their attacks were relentless. I was glad I had pumped my level ups into my health. It was currently at 74/130. Through my battle, I figured out that daggers seemed to hit a constant amount. The leader hit 5s, while his lackey hit 3s. Well, that¡¯s only when they hit my armor, which blocked a whole point of damage! Yaaaay¡ Anyway, the leader and his lackey were at 18 and 11, respectively. They were controlling the battle with their tactics. They suddenly rushed me with a pincer attack. I kept up my tactics and focused on the leader. I swung my sword to meet his slash. Hah! He stopped! My body turned right into the incoming attack of the lackey, spinning around. Then I felt a stinging in my back and heard a shifty voice say, ¡°Backstab!¡± [3] [Critical! 10] I spun back around to face my fleeing foes. I took this chance to sneak a peek at my health. 61/130. Next to the numbers was the symbol of a couple of drops. [1] I was filled with dread. I was nowhere near the end of this fight. ¡®Shiiiiit¡¡¯ The bandits closed in, and I started to panic. My ensuing sword swings were not my proudest, but they did their job as bandit repellants. [1] ¡®Arghh! This is totally unfair!¡¯ I was about to continue my ranting when I realized that I wasn¡¯t the only one in the middle of a fight. Said realization came in the form of a light enveloping me. [+15] The green numbers gave me hope again! The bandits clicked tongues as I felt the wound on my back close up just a little. The bandit leader¡¯s face plummeted further as he watched Ulfa barrel into his subordinate. We squared off again; however, this time, the advantage was mine. I rushed in, more confident now that there wouldn¡¯t be an unexpected knife in my back. Sword posed ready for an overhead slash, I moved in. As he slashed out in response, I gave him a taste of his own medicine. Shifting my momentum, I angled my path out of harm¡¯s way. Bringing my sword down and doing some fancy footwork, I positioned myself and sent out a stab. My aim was true, and the bandit found himself with a large hole in his neck. [Fatal strike! 18] His lifeless body dropped to the ground. I followed soon after, panting. ¡®I did it! I killed him!¡¯ ¡®Wait¡ I just killed him¡¡¯ My stomach started to turn over. In a flash, I just ended a life. I stepped close to a nearby barrel and started to empty my stomach. *** (Thundatwin¡¯s POV) I heard the sounds of retching, but I couldn¡¯t let myself be distracted. I was still tangled up on the ground, wrestling an elf. I had luckily hit his arm with an arrow, causing him to drop his dagger. So we were now down to history¡¯s oldest weapon. Our fists. Wubs got a kick or two in, which really helped. Still, even without the use of one hand, I was struggling. I finally pushed him off of me, rolling us both close to a building. I got a lucky shot in as I hit him across the jaw, dazing him for a moment. [1] This left him at 4/15 health. I took the opportunity to stand and drag my opponent to the wall nearby. Grabbing the elf by his scraggly hair and started to repeatedly, but politely, slam his head into the bricks. His health was slowly dropping, until the fight finally left him. I sat next to the body, huffing in and out. I shot a glance at the body next to me. It was weird. I recognized it as something that moves, breaths, thinks. But it would never do that again. I tried to convince myself that he was a bunch of ones and zeroes, just computer data. It didn¡¯t work though. I felt more alive in this game than I have in a while living without it. I instead used a clich¨¦. ¡®It was either him or me.¡¯ That worked a lot better.
75 EXP gained!
I welcomed that distraction. The experience wasn¡¯t bad at all, and it brought me near to level 4. I pulled myself up off the ground and joined my brother to collect the loot. Ulfa apparently went to go check on Steph. They walked out of an alley together, Steph looking worse for wear but probably better than when she entered the alley. We split the loot, which included nothing special, and started moving towards the waypoint again. This time, with a lot less talking. *** We followed the waypoint it to an inconspicuous house. It was quiet, which was nice. Nothing to interrupt my thoughts. The buzz of a crowd back at the bar was enough to cause headaches. I stepped up to the door and knocked. Everyone else was watching our surroundings. ¡°Come on in. The door¡¯s open.¡± With a shrug, I opened the door and entered. Which was a bad choice. My arm got snatched, and I was pulled in and spun. My assailant had one of my arms at a weird angle behind my back and a knife to my throat. ¡°Freeze! Or buddy-boy here gets it!¡± I had a dry expression on my face. Steph and Wub Wub tensed at the feminine voice, whereas Ulfa showed a face of surprise followed closely by laughing. ¡°Emma, calm down. Your brother sent us to deliver something.¡± (U) The hands, which I now realize were a dark purple¡-ish color, relaxed and released their grip. ¡°Ulfa! Come on in! I thought you were more of those thugs.¡± (E) Ulfa stepped in, followed by the other two. They had grins plastered on their faces as they snickered. I vaguely heard the words ¡°Buddy-boy¡± whispered, but I shook my head. A tad embarrassed, I followed everyone into the kitchen. Stolen novel; please report. The kitchen actually doubled as a prison, as I saw a bunch of generic bandit types tied up in here. The three of us looked at Emma in a new light. We stayed for a bit and chatted over some tea. Steph had hers without sugar, a thought that makes me shudder. Thanking us again, she saw us off. *** During the walk back, I kept imagining what I¡¯d say to Enzo when we saw him. I was pretty set on exploding in his face the moment I set eyes on him. As we opened the bar door, however, we could do nothing but walk straight passed our employer and plop down at a table. We were all emotionally exhausted, including Ulfa, which surprised me. Well, as surprised as I could bring myself to be. The fire crackled as its light fought the darkness the sun had left behind many hours ago. I honestly expected it to have gone up by now. Enzo brought out some soup, which nobody touched or even looked at. Wubs lifted his head to explain what happened to Enzo. ¡°I see¡ That¡¯s quite the tough time you had there. How about a break as an additional reward?¡±

I closed the window without batting an eye. I only snapped out of it as I heard a refreshing *Ding!* was heard.
Level Up!
I thanked Enzo and noticed the others had perked up a bit as well. I asked and found out that we had all leveled up. Wub Wub had even leveled up twice, bringing him up to my own level. We started to eat as we distributed our points.

Wubs made a weird face, which piqued my curiosity. ¡°What¡¯s up, bro?¡± (T) ¡°Nothin¡¯, Buddy-boy. Just a new title I missed.¡± (W) I glossed over the venom in his voice. ¡°Oh yeah? What¡¯s that?¡±(T) ¡°Apparently, I have the highest infamy in the game, so it gave me a title. Infamous.¡± (W) My eyes widened while Steph choked on her soup. Ignoring the individual asphyxiating nearby, I shot a question at my brother. ¡°What. Did. You. Do.¡± (T) ¡°Remember all of that street art?¡± (W) Steph, who had just started regaining her breath, quickly lost it again as she joined me in my laughter. We caught the interest of Enzo and Ulfa, who had quietly been chatting nearby. ¡°So the Elven guard¡?¡± (T) He nodded, again setting off our laughter. StephOFF was clutching her stomach as tears cascaded down her face. I think. It was hard to see anything, as my laughter had caused my eyes to almost close. Our laughter slowed to a trickle as we got an alert. *Ding!*

All laughter had ceased. I shot up, knocking my chair over, and stomped my way over to three shadows, who were talking to Enzo. ¡°What. The FUCK. Are you telling me you three dipshits don¡¯t even have the decency to do half of the work!?¡± (T) The orc, who I assumed was BodyOgre, answered. ¡°Not our fault you chumps are behind.¡± (B) Wub Wub held me back from my righteous onslaught. ¡°How¡¯d you guys collect the firewood so quickly? You shouldn¡¯t even be let out of the gates yet.¡± (W) ¡°We bought some off of one of the NPC adventurers. And it wasn¡¯t cheap, so good luck trying to buy four stacks of it.¡± (B) I shook my brother¡¯s restricting arm off of me and made my way over to Enzo. ¡°Enzo, what was that?¡± (T) ¡°Now listen here son. I¡¯m just lucky they gave that much. At least I can actually trust you three to go out and get some. I¡¯ve got a business to run.¡± (E) I looked around the room. What should have been able to fit ten tables was occupied by no more than three¡ if you were being generous. One of the survivors was missing a leg, so it was shoved into a corner of the room. The business the past couple of days had been served mostly at the bar. ¡°You¡¯re right, Enzo. Sorry for his outburst. We¡¯ll be sure to get the firewood.¡± (W) Wubs had arrived at with Steph at his side without me knowing. Perhaps because this was his first time meeting the punks, Wub Wub was not as angered as StephOFF and I. I could see that she was even more pissed than me. She looked like she was about to explode, so I guess I just beat her to the punch. We made our way back to our food as Enzo turned in to get a quick wink. The sky was progressively being polished by the sun, revealing more and more of a blue hue to the three of us. We quietly finished our meal and started to clean in order to pass the time. We just had to make it until noon to finally finish this quest. A/N: Wow. Got really stumped on some of the smallest things in this chapter. Anyway, hope you enjoyed. I didn''t include Steph''s stats as she''s not supposed to have a big role in the story. ask me if you want it though. V1C5 Ice to Meet You A/N: I¡¯m so sorry for the chapter title¡ And I guess I should go ahead and point out that Thundatwin represents me. V1C5 Ice to Meet You (Lil¡¯ Wub Wub¡¯s POV) Immediately as I logged on, I had an overwhelming urge to hit Thundatwin¡ Anyway, breakfast was good and the shower quick. I couldn¡¯t waste any time, even if it was only to clean a non-existing tavern. Speaking of, it was spotless! Especially the floors! It was like people kept spilling cleaning water on themselves and the floor! No but seriously, how do people put up with that old prank and still stay the night? My hand was already raw from the highfives over the past couple of days¡ I quickly took care of my morning chores, including cleaning the halls, fetching new water, and¡ what else¡ Oh yeah! Waking up the drunks out front. I mean seriously! Can¡¯t you at least stumble a block away before passing out? I was surprised to not see Ulfa out here, but then I remembered last night. She shuffled out sometime between the level ups and the shouting. I stepped inside and grabbed a bite of the breakfast Steph was slaving over. It was¡ well, it was something. I was grateful it woke me up anyway. When she turned around, I added some salt and pepper to the massive amount of eggs she was making. We struggled around until around 10:30 game time. We had planned to go stock up. Waving goodbye to Enzo, we set off. I opened up the conversation with a serious tone. ¡°So let¡¯s look over the fight from yesterday.¡± They both nodded in response. ¡°First off, your aim sucks.¡± Thundatwin just grumbled to himself. ¡°I know it¡¯s tough, but it¡¯s true. And Steph, remember that we¡¯re close by. I didn¡¯t see much of the beginning, but you seemed to panic when I looked.¡± (W) ¡°Yeah sorry, I was freaking out cause I kept losing health¡¡± (S) My brother, who had ceased his grumbles, tilted his head. ¡°She was bleeding.¡± He nodded and went into thought; however, this time StephOFF tilted her head. ¡°Bleeding is when you steadily lose health over time. Deep cuts can cause it, or maybe some skills. Its opposite would by crippled, which is caused by blunt objects and some skills. The help said that it causes slowness and prevents some movements because you¡¯re literally breaking bones.¡± (W) Satisfied with my answer, she nodded. ¡°Yeah, don¡¯t freak. Any party would crumble without their tank.¡± (T) ¡°What¡¯s a tank?¡± (S) I took over and gave a brief overview of roles. (Okay, I¡¯m not gonna make you read it. If you don¡¯t know, it¡¯ll be in the spoiler below. It¡¯s just breezing over tank, heals, DPS, and support roles, as well as hitting basics like aggro, buffs, and CCing.) Spoiler : -tanks: heavily armored players that try to keep the highest aggro of all the enemies. -heals: obviously, provide healing for the group. They mainly focus their efforts on tanks. Some might offer support with buffs/ debuffs. -DPS: stands for damage per second. The role is also referred to as damage roles, these players focus on dealing as much damage as possible without drawing too much aggro. Most also have CC skills. -support: sometimes a role of its own, these players focus on buffing and CCing. Also deal some damage when they can. -buffing: these skills either boost an allies stats. When someone builds aggro, the enemy will focus solely on that person. We found ourselves done shopping and approaching the adventurer¡¯s guild at the tail end of the conversation. Walking in, we were meet with the buzzing of conversations again. We made our way through the bustle to the bounty board. ¡°Wow, what¡¯s this?¡± (T) ¡°The bounty board. Simple quests to keep the monster population down¡ Wait, I know for a fact I pointed it out to you last time we were here¡¡± (W) ¡°Oh! Uhhh¡ I was thinking about what weapon to get?¡± (T) Sighing, I said, ¡°They have quests that pay you based on how many monsters you kill in a time limit on this half. On the other, they have bounties for players and NPCs with high infamy. I heard you could put a bounty on someone if you wanted, provided you have the money.¡± (W) Walking closer, I looked through the bounties, but I couldn¡¯t find the one we were looking for. I glanced over at the dark Elf player beside me and noticed that he had it. ¡°Excuse me, but we¡¯re going out to hunt some Treants and decided to earn some extra money. The only thing is, that¡¯s the only bounty for it. Are you going to take it? If not, can we have it?¡± (W) ¡°Yeah, sure man. Just on one condition though. You just have to let me tag along.¡± I looked him over more closely. He had an identical staff to my own. He was wrapped in a brown cloak that looked nice for our levels. His red hair was tied up in a ponytail, though he missed a few strands. His pointy ears had large looking gages near the tip. To top that off, there were huge burn marks all over his forearms. ¡®Ouch¡¡¯ Unlike Enzo, he had some dark looking tattoos on his left cheek. Some kind of tribe markings? ¡°Mage?¡± (T) My brother had joined in on the conversation. He nodded in response. He and Steph were checking the guy out. ¡®Gaaaaaay.¡¯ I debated teasing him out loud, but I came to the conclusion that it wouldn¡¯t make a very good first impression. ¡°Sure!¡± (S) She answered before we could discuss it¡ I looked at my brother. He shrugged and gave a slight nod. He claimed himself as McIcer15, and I sent him a party invite. He was a level two. I mentally shrugged as he handed over the bounty. ¡°You just gotta give this to Dee.¡± Before we could stop her, Steph tilted her head and said, ¡°Who¡¯s Dee?¡± (S) I literally face palmed while my brother offered a high five. He accepted it with a laugh, and then turned to Steph. ¡°Dee is the person at the counter, but try not to fall for that again.¡± (M) I gave the bounty a once over, explaining what we needed to get. Arriving at the counter, I struck up a conversation with the receptionist, a bunny girl. She started sweating a bit. I gave my best smile and started confidently. ¡°Hi! I¡¯d like to take this bounty with my party please.¡± (W) ¡°S-Sure! The limit is three days. Please prepare yourself to fight them, though it shouldn¡¯t be too hard. They keep to themselves, so it will go quite easily with a party.¡± *Ding!*

I thanked her and began to turn away, thought for a moment, and turned back to her. ¡°Excuse me, one last question. May I ask for your name?¡± (W) ¡°Oh! My name¡¯s Dee.¡± A chuckle erupted from the surrounding players. ¡°Why do you Travelers always laugh at that¡¡± (D) Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences. I thanked her again as I turned around. For real this time. Steph was blushing slightly, while Thundatwin and McIcer looked a little suspicious¡ ¡°Told ya so!¡± (M) I grunted and shot my brother a questioning glance. ¡°We explained the joke.¡± (T) I shook my head as I lead our pow wow out the building. *** (Thundatwin¡¯s POV) I have got some luck with dark Elves!! Moving passed that, there were a couple of things I learned about McIcer. He was a nice guy, despite the appearance the tatts did for him. He did odd jobs for his time stuck in town, which is why he was a low level. ¡®Now that I think about it, we got pretty lucky with that quest.¡¯ What else¡ Oh yeah! The guy was fucking hilarious. His humor style was unique and delivered in an almost laid back manner. Most of it was presented as responses to other jokes. And the guy used the word ¡®groovy.¡¯ How much cooler can you get! As a gamer, he seemed more confident and experienced than Steph. However, he admitted that he was new to mmos. At that, Wubs launched into the role explanation once again. This time, though, he quizzed StephOFF on the terms. ¡°Then I guess I lean towards DPS role then. Plus a little CC.¡± (M) At a nod from us, he went further to explain the spell he pooled his money into.
Ice Shard 10 Mana Level 1 (0%)
Description:A novice spell that draws on the powers of ice to launch a shard at a target. Deals damage and has a chance to slow. Occasionally freezes target.
Effects:Deals 15 damage 10% chance to slow target 0.5% chance to freeze targetSpecifications:3 meter range 3 second cast time 4 second cooldown
The spell sounded pretty nice. We started to plan tactics, deciding Steph as the main tank. I was debating on whether the sword or the bow. I slapped my forehead. ¡®Why didn¡¯t I think of using both¡¡¯ I explained my plan to the party¡¯s confused looks. Moving on, I was going to act as a DPS most of the time, switching out with Steph when she needed a sub. Icer was on full time DPS, the same for our healer. We made our way to the gate, where we saw a multitude of people grouped new the exit. A few rings formed around some passing the time by dueling. A guard was standing in front of them, sweating and trying to shout above the crowd¡¯s murmurs. There was no way for us at the back to hear her. At least she finally washed the paint off, though Wubs looked a little sad at that. I nudged him. ¡°Follow my lead!¡± (T) *Stomp Stomp Clap!* *Stomp Stomp Clap!* -An awesome group effort in which everyone starts to scream ¡°We Will Rock You¡±, during which staffs are slammed, swords and shields crash, and some crazy mother fucker power slides.- I look out of the gates and see the wolves shuddering and dashing to get away. Suddenly, someone starts a count down. 10!... 9!... We were screaming the numbers. 6!... 5!... I grabbed Wubs robe in front of me. Steph and Icer followed suit, starting a chain. 2!... 1!... GOOO!! We surged forward, shoving the guard out of the way to release the flow of battle-crazed adventurers. Most stayed straight, pursuing the wolves to end their struggles. Some followed the path, eager to be the first to get to a new town. A few, us included, made straightaway to the forest. The train was a good idea, as we saw many parties split up and forced to look for each other. Some other groups had a similar idea. We sprinted until we were alone in the vicinity then we sprinted some more. Though we were all out of breath and a good distance from the nearest fight, we could never out run the sounds of violence echoing in the woods. Panting, we waited until everyone caught their breath.
For constantly running, you feel yourself become more agile. +1 AGI
It started as a chuckle and evolved into a full blown laugh. Four different sounds mixed to become a single, light hearted atmosphere. When it subsided, we examined the area around us. We were surrounded by trees. The green light filtering from above was pretty calming. I turned further to continue looking, and saw a stump. It went up about 3 meters and was wide to the point where it took two men to wrap their arms around it. Curious, I trained my eyes on it for a moment and saw subtle movements. ¡°Pssst!¡± I pointed at the stump. Steph set off at a cautious pace, while Icer and I tried to get an angle on it. Pulling out my bow, I forced myself to ignore the whispering coming from Icer.
Common Treant Level 5 75/75
A roar erupted from StephOFF as she jumped in, making an overhead slash. [Sneak attack! 12] A monstrous creak resounded in response. I released my arrow, a thud signaling it embedding into the trunk almost immediately after. A 5 rose from the spot. The stump picked itself up on its roots, spinning quickly. The movement turned its one remaining branch into a weapon as it slugged into the side of Steph. [20] She screamed out in pain as she rolled for a couple of feet. This thing must¡¯ve monstrous strength! The air chilled. I glanced to my right as I readied an arrow, catching sight of a magic circle about the size of a plate forming in front of Icer. An ice shard the size of a kitchen knife launched from it at a high speed. [15] I ignored looking towards the light falling on Steph as I looked back towards the treant. There were some tears in the bark, opening the wood to show darkness in the shape of eyes and a gaping mouth. Its branch had a speck of green on it. A sole leaf hung there. I drew, and released another arrow. [5] I heard Icer mumbling again as the treant, with its creaking¡ well, sounds like everything was creaking. Anyway, it set off towards Steph as the speed of a slow walk. She was struggling to regain her breath. I cursed and dashed forward, unsheathing my sword. I slashed at everything close to me in an attempt to draw aggro. [4] [5] I ran between its root legs, slashing as I went. [5] Its gaze ran over me before continuing behind me to Steph again. I clicked my tongue and jumped, a slash unleashed towards its branch. [Critical! 8] It worked a little too well, as it tried to kick me instantly. I was about to land. There wasn¡¯t much I could do. I rotated and put the sword in between the leg and myself. [19] I hit the ground. Hard. I saw a shattered bone next to my health. Winded, I used my hand to communicate to the party.
Party Chat
Thundatwin:branch weak spot
Icer¡¯s whispering never stopped, so I hope the message got across. Another cold rush accompanied by a whoosh. A shard was sticking out of the head of the treant. Icer missed by barely any distance¡ A shadow launch over me. I winced, but sat up through the pain anyway. I saw my brother rush in and smash his staff into one of the legs. Its sliver of health disappeared. With a crash, the treant fell over. A silence followed. ¡°¡ Timber.¡± (W) V1C6 Short Goodbyes A/N: So I¡¯m gonna take a shot at a serious story, since this one was supposed to just be me dicking around with a bunch of friends. Said story is going to be in the zombie/ psychological genre. I¡¯m going to try and balance both until a certain point in THIS story and have you guys vote. So BEWARE!!~~ Link to the other story: The Horde Also, sorry for the short(er) chapter. I felt it was the right spot to end it. V1C6 Short Goodbyes (Thundatwin¡¯s POV) It was surprisingly hard to find more of the monsters. They wandered around without pattern. Sometimes we would chance upon two of them¡ Thank God for kiting. Luckily, we haven¡¯t come across three at once. Spoiler : Kiting is getting aggro of an enemy and running away while avoiding attacks. It really just buys time. It gives the image of someone flying a kite (enemy). As I was saying, it took a bit of time to find them. We¡¯d run across several other members of the ecosystem or other hunting parties. We even saw the crazy dude that power slid earlier. Anyway, the ecosystem was quite interesting. First off, nothing in the forest seemed inherently aggressive, letting us hunt in relative peace. Second, the ecosystem was pretty weird. it seemed to be completely void of the animal kingdom. Instead, there were various creatures resembling the treants in that they were roaming plant monster¡ things. I couldn¡¯t get a good look as we were hunting nonstop. Or trying to. Would ten minute breaks to find the next vict- ahem, target still be considered nonstop? Another tough part was that StephOFF and I had to rotate tanking. The pain was a good deterrent for volunteering. The non-tank was busy dealing damage or kiting. There were some good parts though, like the experience gain. In both senses. There were a few level up, including Wubs¡¯ healing skill.
Healing Hands 20 Mana Level 2 (7%)
Description:Novice healing spell that restores a small amount of health to one person.
Effects:Heals 30 Hp to one targetSpecifications:3 meter range 3.5 cast time 5 second cooldown
On the other hand, Steph was growing more accustomed to tanking. She wasn¡¯t at the level where she could warn others of their high aggro yet. Baby steps first. We had to stop for more supplies once in the middle of our hunt. We also took it as a chance to take a break. We sold the junk loot and got some dinner with it. The satiety bar dropped pretty fast when hunting. Jokes were flowing one into the next over the meal, and our hearts were light. Even after the meal, we had a steady stream of conversation material. But all good things come to an end, and starting with StephOFF, we started signing out, agreeing to get on in two hours. *** A lot sooner than the planned time, I logged on. The others still has an hour real time. ¡®It''s grindin time!¡¯ In the middle of my restocking, I noticed that McIcer was already on. Confused, I set out to find him. We were all still in a party, so I could see him on my map. He was in the forest. I shrugged. He was where I was going anyway. I unsheathed my sword. This time, I was going to hunt wolves on the way out. I was making good time. I would sneak up on the wolf, my first slash towards its neck. This usually resulted in a fatal blow, one shotting it. The wolves were the starter enemy, so they never appeared in pairs. Sometimes, my slash would miss its mark. This would still result in a sneak attack, with double damage, so two or three attacks finished the mutts off. Well, I was over leveled¡ ¡®I''ve arrived!... A lot sooner than expected!¡¯ I made it passed the tree line. From here, my targets would switch to the flora found here. There were flower-like minions, the first swarm enemy. They were easy to beat individually, but a little tough to deal with more than three. I set off trying to find more of them, but I still kept my eyes open. There were different plants everywhere. I almost regret not checking out what herbs would make me some extra cash. A deep scream broke my mental sanctuary. I dashed in the direction it came from. I was still pretty far from him, so it couldn¡¯t be McIcer. I saw an orc body lying on the ground. The air was thick with something, so I couldn¡¯t get close to him. There was nothing uncanny around the body other than that. I started a sweep of my surroundings. Something caught my eye, and I found myself staring at a patch of mushrooms on a tree. I had yet to see those. I stepped closer but froze, just out of reach. The mushrooms looked real, but the bark around it was missing the groves that the rest of the trees had. I gripped my sword and swung. My blade connected with one of the mushrooms and sliced through it. Its momentum carried into the bark. [Sneak attack! 10] Spores started to cloud the air as a shriek lashed out. I jumped back, cautious of them. Something peeled itself off of the tree. It had a face that was facing the tree moments ago. Its shell hid the body underneath. Complete with arms and legs was a weird little creature. I couldn¡¯t see clearly, but it looked like it had sap on its lips.
Fungal Parasite Level 6 25/25
It staggered forward, eager to close the distance as it continued to pump spores. I took an equal amount of bigger steps as I put away my blade, replacing it with my bow. A body dropped a couple of arrows, missed and otherwise, later. Surprisingly, the curtain of spores quickly dispersed, allowing passage to the loot. *** My hunting went along as such. I ran into only a few more of the fungal parasites unfortunately. Most of my battles were against the treants, the flower minions, and some sort of weak golem. The latter two were too weak to mention the battles. This story has been unlawfully obtained without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. Trudging through the trees, I moved closer and closer to the creaking that started moments ago. Coming upon the battle, I watched as McIcer fought against the treant. Mixing casting and kiting, he slowly brought the treant¡¯s health down. The treant was frosted over, the effects of slow. It finally crashed down, Icer getting closer to snag the leaf and firewood left behind. I walked up to him. ¡°Hey dude. Grinding?¡± (T) ¡°Hey man! I¡¯m just trying to catch up to you guys. You level really fast.¡± (M) We shared a laugh and started walking. He accepted my invite for company. We walked and talked about a lot of things, only pausing to fight. We steered clear of talking about life, and instead focused the conversation on the game so far. Life was a kinda of taboo, and we had only known each other for half of a day. Just like that, we hunted for another two hours in wait for our companions. (Lil¡¯ Wub Wub¡¯s POV) I logged on at the AGREED TIME. Just like that, we found the only man who ACTUALLY KEEPS HIS WORD in our group. Anyway, they leveled up a bit when we found them. The left side of me vision looked like this:

Anyway, right now we¡¯re hunting our last treant. And it¡¯s about damn time. At this point, we¡¯re so used to fighting it that I don¡¯t even do anything. No one even gets hit. It¡¯s depressing. So instead of twiddling my thumbs, I decided to take up alchemy. My brother gave me some scrap loot to start with. And so far, I¡¯ve made¡ nothing! It¡¯s pretty fuckin¡¯ annoying. None of the ingredients does anything together. Anyway, while I was fuming, they seemed to have beaten the treant. So we start our journey to Eilis¡ you know. The town. That you¡¯ve never been told¡ yeaaaaaah¡ We¡¯ve almost run out of things to talk about. Almost. Somehow we got on the topic of food. ¡°Anything healthy first off.¡± (M) ¡°Telling ya, ruebens are the best.¡± (T) ¡°And I told you that I¡¯m vegetarian! So find a better food!¡± (S) ¡°There is no better food!¡± (T) ¡°Oh contraire, dearest brother. There is the reigning champion, Pizza, and all of its glory.¡± (W) One subject down. The conversation continued, but they were eerily similar to this in terms of pointlessness. Course, I didn¡¯t forget to tie a few shoe laces together. Maybe a dick drawn here or there. Nothing big though. And we finally turned in our first quest! Hurrah!

I smirked and affirmed both windows. With a small goodbye, we parted. A/N: Sooooo¡ I¡¯ve got more followers for The Horde in a day than this story in almost a week¡ how depressing¡ Note: Probably Dropped I started this as just kinda something to do, with only one plan. Which was T''s class. He was gonna be able to change classes for like 6 hours. And the class he would turn into would depend on the terrain. Buuuuuut.... I don''t really like how nonsensical it is. If there''s interest, I might start it up again. Nonetheless, I plan to put another fic on RR, hopefully a tad more serious. And it''ll be about a necromancer! Ooooh! So comment your thoughts!
