《Dias's Chronicles》 Prologue: The White Suns Last Breath ¡°So this is what the world¡¯s end look like¡¡± The land was desertic and crackled as if the earth was going to be torn apart. A lone and tired man was standing. Countless sword and arrows pierced his body, what was left of his armor were now tarnished by the blood of his old friends. It was impossible to tell what color his armor had before the fight, now they were defiled by blood. Only a single spot on his armor was more or less spared, it was his shoulder where one could see a white sun drawn. But the white color quickly became bloody red as blood covered the sun. People with whom he laughed, with whom he swore to protect the world they loved, their body now laid around him. The landscape was filled with corpses which could be counted by hundreds of thousands. As far as one could see, bodies that would never move again were scattered. Every corpse just like him had a white sun embedded on their clothes and armor. He still remembered his friends last words, ¡®You traitor¡¡¯ ¡®Monster¡¡¯ ¡®We believed in you captain, how could you¡¡¯. He would never forget them as he buried their body, using their swords to make tombs. Despite his wounds, the man was still standing. His organs were undoubtedly pierced, it was already a miracle for him to still be alive in this condition. Yet, he slowly looked around himself with a pair of glowing golden eyes filled with sadness and anger. He was now alone in the battlefield, he killed everyone who came at him. Be it dragon riders, magician, paladin or simple soldiers; no one was spared. Childhood friends, comrades, sworn brothers¡ His sword was merciless as it cut them apart, yet he was unwilling to let them bodies rot here. Thus, he buried them one by one as he remembered the time he spent with them. Nobody knew how much time passed until he finally finished burying everyone. For him who was immersed in his memory, it was perhaps only a few hours. But he probably took many weeks, or maybe even months to bury them all. Everything he fought to protect until today was annihilated by his own hands. In order to protect the dearest thing he ever had, he became the world¡¯s enemy. In his right hand, his silver sword which long ago radiated in a golden light was now covered with dried blood. The glow emanating from the sword was still as bright as before, but it seemed to contain sadness and regret as if sharing its owner¡¯s pain. The man held this sword as if it was the most important thing in his life, yet as he was dying, the sword fell from his hand, sinking in the ground. Slightly closing his eyes, the man fell backward. But he was stopped by two hand which supported his firm back. The two peerless snow-like hand supported his body, slowly laying his body on the ground as the weapons previously stuck in his back mysteriously disappeared. Carefully positioning the man¡¯s head on her lap, tears were flowing down her beautiful face as she looked closely at his face while caressing his straight white hairs with her hand. The man opened his eyes as a slight smile formed on his lips. Gathering his strength he lifted his hand, touching the woman¡¯s cheek with his hand covered with cuts. ¡°Alseia¡¡± He said in a gentle tone. This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author''s work. The woman held his hand, brought it to her face, trying to cover he crying eyes. ¡°Why?... Why did you sacrifice everything for me?¡± She weakly asked. ¡°You were the one who wished for peace the most¡ So why...did you throw away everything for me?¡± He didn¡¯t say a single word, yet his answer was conveyed by a pure smile. A bright and pure smile which contained all his feeling. His silver eyes looked at her like she was his everything, he wished he could keep watching her for eternity. Slowly, the man¡¯s eyes once again started to close. ¡°I am tired¡¡± The man weakly muttered. ¡°Then close your eyes¡ Everything is over¡¡± Alseia brought his head to her chest, embracing him as she shared her warmth with resolute eyes. The world around them was dead, the land was arid and even nature had disappeared. Animals had all disappeared due to the lack of food. The sky was covered with dark cloud, but it wasn¡¯t raining. A lone woman was embracing the body of her dying beloved who sacrificed everything he possessed to protect her, she was surrounded by swords which symbolized all that he gave up for her. ¡°I won¡¯t let you die!¡± Suddenly opening her eyes, the ground started to shake and the dry wind started to rotate around her. The clouds which covered the sky dispersed, the sun illuminated her body and her silver hairs seemed to reflect the light. Her golden eyes became as sharp as a sword, her expression turned serious as she discarded the tears in her eyes. ¡°I, Alseia Ik Valkayin order the world to bend to my will¡¡± Small blue lights began to gather around her body, some came from the ground others from the sky and finally from the corpses. Those lights enveloped her body as the world around her started to decay even faster. The previously cracked earth was slowly turning to dust. The dispersed clouds vanished into nothingness and the blue sky became gray, the bright golden sun began to turn white. Alseia body glowed in a blinding white light enveloping everything around her. A light which seemed to eat everything around. The landscape disappeared in the light, there was nothing but Alseia and the man. Her figure turned ghostly, slowly starting to disappear. She looked lonely. The hand she was holding now belonged to a dead man who just expired his last breath. ¡°A forbidden ritual at the price of one¡¯s life and soul¡ Escape from this world bidding and be reborn with the power of my soul. Stand above mortality and reject fatality.¡± As she shot those words the light suddenly froze. Like the time was running on the other side, the light gathered in the man¡¯s body. ¡°White Sun¡¯s Last Breath!¡± The blazing white sun which illuminated the world suddenly condensed and sprang toward the man¡¯s heart as the Alseia vanished into nothingness. The man¡¯s glowing body also started to slowly disappear in this ruined word. ¡®Live well¡ Dias¡¡¯ Chapter 1 - Rebirth From Light Chapter 1: Within a certain forest in the south of the continent like every day, the birds were chirping as loudly as they could, singing with all their might. The sweet perfume of nature was carried by a gentle warm breeze of autumn. The forest was lively like every day, animals were carefully trying to avoid their predators and the predators were sneakily hunting for food. However, this every day was disturbed by a strange phenomenon. A strange white light illuminated a certain part of the forest. Because it was daytime, the light was only visible within a few kilometers. If it had happened during the night, perhaps it would have illuminated the whole forest. This phenomenon made all animals careful, the birds immediately flapped their wings as they soared into the air trying to avoid any type of danger. Only a few seconds after appearing, the shiny white light quickly condensed into a small form. As time passes, the white became more and more precise as it formed a human¡¯s shape. It only had its shape, it was formed by a strange gray flame. This flame didn¡¯t burn anything close to itself. It only tried to achieve the form of a human being, and the more time passed, the precise the shape became. Within a few little hours, the shape was identical to a human being. The shape was extremely similar to Dias¡¯s one, but his stature couldn¡¯t be compared to his previous one. His body was shorter and a lot thinner, his hairs were slightly longer, barely above his shoulders. The moment the shape managed to perfectly replicate a human¡¯s body, it quickly condensed. A blinding light illuminated the whole forest for an instant before disappearing as if nothing had happened. The only proof of the light¡¯s existence a little-naked body on the ground. Dias suddenly opened his eyes as he took a heavy breath. His expression was dazed as his eyes tried to adjust to the light environnement he was in. He felt as if he had been in a dark place for a dozens years and then suddenly saw the light of the sun. When his eyes finally managed to see the world around him, his shock couldn¡¯t be described. Just¡ What is going on? He asked himself, the memories of the war, his friends dying at his hands and even the recollection of his own death¡ Everything was extremely clear in his head. For him, it was as if a single minute had passed. Yet how could the world change so much in a single minute. The world around him was alive, tree and grass were present in abundance. The noise around him told him that animals and insects were living closeby. How could Dias¡¯s believe that this was his world? His world was on the verge of being destroyed, he knew it better than anyone since he threw his world in order to live with her. And more importantly, the sun was shining in the sky, illuminating the world with its light. His world should have been destroyed by this same sun. Focusing on the sun he quickly realized something was strange, the light emanating from the sun was weaker than before. It was far weaker than the one he knew and the sun¡¯s size was far smaller. The sun was the reason why life formed in first place. The gathering of mana for countless millions of years in a single area. Mana in its purest form, a white flame which was covered by a layer of impure mana still in the process of being refined converted into white flame before being absorbed into the white sun. The light emanating by the white flame and weakened by the impurities was just enough to give birth to live on the closer planet which became Dias¡¯s home. The White Sun grew at a regulated rate, as it grew larger, the quantity of mana it absorbed became larger as well. Thanks to this, the impurities attracted were greater as well. Everything followed a certain cycle. A large yet frail cycle. A cycle which was broken ten thousand years ago in Dias¡¯s world by a certain man who betrayed his lord and tried to obtain the White Sun¡¯s power. He invented a dark ritual in which he sacrificed his lord¡¯s life and soul who had the power to invoke a trend of the White Sun¡¯s power. This forbidden ritual was named the White Sun¡¯s Last Breath. Death was the price this man paid for his failure. Not even ashes remained of his burnt body, but he wasn¡¯t the only one to pay the price. The balance was broken. The speed at which the sun was absorbing mana was incomparable to before, the impurities gradually weakened as years passed and the mana sent to the Dias¡¯s world was several times higher than in the past. Life couldn¡¯t adapt in time to the increase of mana and gradually died. By a secret means the humanity had managed to slow down the White Sun¡¯s absorption rate and managed to survive¡ Until Dias caused its demise. Looking around him, Dias was shocked. Life was blooming everywhere around him, yet as the astonishment gradually disappeared, all what remained was despair. Where are you?... Alseia The woman who was close-by a few moment ago had vanished. His lover for whom he died was nowhere to be found. What had happened to her? His thoughts, for now, were solely focused on her. Was she save? He felt like he had to hurry and look for her. Since she was close to him a few minutes ago, she must be closeby. This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there. As he stood up, he felt like something was wrong, his body felt uncomfortable and weak. As he tried to extend his senses around him, trying to find Alseia, he noticed that his senses weren¡¯t as sharp as they were. Even when he was dying his senses were still far sharper than now. Before, he would have been able to notice any living being within a few dozen of kilometers around him without even trying. Right now even by concentrating as hard as he could, he could at most sense the world around him within two hundred meters. The sensing was rough and not as precise as before, but he could still distinguish intensity of the life around him. The ones with a small amount were insects and animals, but he suddenly felt a large one entering the range of his area. He couldn¡¯t distinguish the shape of this living being, but it had an amount comparable to a human¡¯s one. A smile formed on Dias¡¯s face as he hurried toward it, he truly hoped from the bottom of his heart that it was Alseia. Two hundred meters wasn¡¯t a long distance, after only a few dozen of seconds he arrived before that being. But this little hope on which he relied was crushed. ¡°GROEWW!¡± That was the only thing that greeted him. It was a large bear; the life force of a bear was indeed close to a human¡¯s one and it easily fooled Dias¡¯s weakened senses. He could feel nothing but despair and anger. He truly hoped that it was Alseia, but thinking about it a little, he quickly realized how stupid he had been. ¡°As if Alseia¡¯s life force was at the same level as a bear¡¡± In his despair, he had forgotten about this simple fact. But as he was lost in thought, the bear who was in the middle of his meal didn¡¯t seem to appreciate being disturbed as glared at Dias with bloody eyes. Feeling his killing intent, Dias¡¯s eyes focused on the bear¡¯s movement as it was charging toward him. The bear swung his paw at Dias who swiftly avoided it, but a small drop of blood flew down his cheek. His dodging maneuver was perfect, or it would have been if it was Dias¡¯s original body. But his current body was weaker and his evaluation of the distance was disturbed. Dias ignored the wound on his cheek and forming a spear hand with his right hand. Gathering his strength, he thrust his hand toward the bear¡¯s heart. The scene had happened very quickly, but despite his body being weakened, Dias felt as if it had been in slow motion. A simple bear was in no war his opponent. But he had never expected that his body would be weakened to the point where he would be unable to pierce the skin of a simple bear. Secretly cursing his weakened body, all he could do was dodge the next incoming paw as he retreated. Dias was in no way tense, in fact since he began to battle with the bear his heart was even calmer than before. However, the bear¡¯s mind was in chaos. At first, he didn¡¯t feel anything from the young man before him, but the moment Dias attacked, he felt his whole body tighten. Dias¡¯s attack had in fact almost killed the bear from a heart attack. The bloody killing intent which was released from Dias¡¯s body the moment he launched his hand toward the bear¡¯s heart made him feel like as if a sword had countless times pierced his body. It was something that it had never felt before like he was an ant on the verge of being stepped on by a giant. If it wasn¡¯t for his instinct taking the lead and chasing Dias away, he probably wouldn¡¯t have reacted. Sighing, Dias closed his eyes and an imaginary image of his body appeared in his mind. From his brain, fifty-two threads were connecting it to the various part of his body. But among those fifty-six, six were shining in a blue light. As he concentrated, a blue mist was moving inside those threads. The mist gathered at his right hand. Despite the amount of concentration needed, it took only an instant for Dias to gather this blue mist. But despite the success, Dias couldn¡¯t help but show an unsightly face. Those threads were his mana circuit, they influenced the amount of mana he was able to use; the more were opened, the larger the amount of mana he could use was. His previous self-had managed after a long number of years to open all of them. Opening a single of his mana circuit was something intense and painful which could result in death if one faltered. It wasn¡¯t something one would normally be willing or able to endure. It was one of the reasons why Dias was qualified as a monster in his previous world. The mana circuits were linked to one¡¯s soul, it wasn¡¯t only the body but also the soul who received pain. It wasn¡¯t something one could guard against. Being able to open all mana circuit was unheard of before he appeared. From Dias¡¯s hand emanated a light blue aura which oscillating as a small breeze of the wind gently caressed them. The bear¡¯s instinct told him to run, to leave this place and run away from this frightful young man. But before he could even blink his eyes, Dias¡¯s hand cut through the wind as it pierced the bear¡¯s body like it was made of tofu. Falling on the ground, the bear died from having his heart pierced. Becoming a corpse that would never stand again. Chapter 2: Resolve As he was watching the bear¡¯s body, Dias¡¯s face slowly began to become pale as blood slowly gathered in his mouth. He felt like his inside were in fire and his body quickly lost all its strength making him fall on the ground unable to lift a finger. His right hand hurt even more than the rest of his body, seeming like it was on the verge of breaking. Quickly investigating his body, Dias couldn¡¯t help but be surprised. He was completely devoid of any mana, just using his mana to reinforce his hand had emptied all of his mana pool. Mana was the strength of the soul, something unable to decrease unless one¡¯s soul was damaged. Yet, a few moment ago he didn¡¯t feel anything amiss. How could his mana be reduced to this puny amount? This amount of mana was the same as a regular adult, spending it had left his body in a deficit which made him unable to move. Closing his eyes, Dias began to gather the mana around him. It slowly entered his body by traveled in his six mana circuits. After a few minutes, Dias was able to stand up. It didn¡¯t mean that his mana had fully recharged, but just that he was able to move without any problem. After all this Dias finally started to examine his body, only now did he realize that he was completely naked. Earlier, under the influence of his emotions he hadn¡¯t realized it, but right now he felt a little sense of shame. But it suddenly vanished as he noticed that his body had turned back into a child¡¯s one. From his height and build, he could approximately affirm that his current body looked like the one of a thirteen or fourteen years old child. His body looked a lot like his previous one, the few moles he had were at the exact same position. The only thing which differentiates his body than the one he had in his childhood was the scars. He was covered in scars. Some old one from battles he fought in his life, earned from various battles where he was constantly on the verge of death. Others from when he was training to the point of injuring his body. There were some new scars as well, they were at the exact position from where he had been injured before he died. The only things proving that his previous life wasn¡¯t a dream. Other than that, his body seemed more muscular compared to the one he had in his childhood. When he was twelve he had of course already started to train for years, but his current body¡¯s repartition of muscle was also very similar to his previous one. A body made not to exert excessive strength, but to provide a high burst of speed and strength. A body made to kill. It was something forged through countless battle. Despite not having the same physical strength as his old one, it will be far easier to train than a normal child¡¯s one. But as he was inspecting his body, something caught his attention. It wasn¡¯t something easy to notice unless someone closely examined it, but it was something that surprised him. Right where his heart was located, there was a little white tattoo. A sun with the symbol of a sword at the center was drawn on his chest. Dias was confused for a moment before recalling a certain hidden book he had read before; one talking about a dark ritual to imprison the power of the sun within a human body. ¡°White Sun¡¯s Last Breath¡ha...haha...ha¡± Remembering this ritual, Dias couldn¡¯t help but laugh as tears fell down from his eyes. In his life, there were only two times when he remembered having shed tears. The first time was when he was burying his comrade, and the second time was now. Sacrificing not only one¡¯s but the world¡¯s life to save another. In a sense the most beautiful yet most atrocious act of love. Destroying everything to save a loved one. Dias finally accepted it, the world he was in wasn¡¯t the same as his. And Alseia had completely vanished, her soul probably destroyed by the ritual. He was now alone in a completely different world from his. Nothing behind him, his past was left behind, destroyed. The only proofs of his previous existence were his memories and this tattoo. His entire life had now vanished, but he couldn¡¯t resolve himself to follow her into death. After her sacrifice, how could he die? Despite being alone, he right now had to survive and live on. ¡°Until now, I¡¯ve lived for the others¡For the world¡For Humanity... From now on, I¡¯ll live as I desire. Unrestrained and free.¡± Living as he wished, free like the wind. Unpredictable and carefree. Doing as he wishes without regret. It was the only thing he could do to repay her. Dias suddenly opened his eyes, something inside them had changed. There were no worries, only sadness, and resolve. He quickly began to think about his course of action, if there was life, then maybe there would be humans or, at least, an intelligent race similar to them. ¡°Living alone in the wood might be pretty nice, the forest look pretty good¡ But I would probably get bored in no time. Moreover, I would probably feel lonely¡ I should probably set off on a journey. Travel all over the world to discover this new world, the one Alseia sent me to.¡± Meeting new people, discovering new places and sceneries, trying some new dish and, of course, develop his fighting skills. Dias didn¡¯t know how he should really live from now on, so he only decided to be as carefree as a child. Changing his mind whenever he feel like it, living one day at a time. In his previous life, he was an orphan trained to be a warrior. His childhood consisted of training, sparring and learning how to defeat monsters and kill. He never enjoyed the warmth of being raised by parents or being able to act selfishly. All the time he was stolen, he would enjoy it now. With this in mind, Dias began to think about the preparation he should make to go on a journey. Considering the fact that he was actually naked, he made his first priority to find some clothes. But looking at the bear¡¯s body, the corner of Dias¡¯s mouth slightly raised. Finding some clothes in a forest would be actually impossible, but using the fur of animals to at least cover his body until he manages to find some real ones. The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation. Dias turned back toward a tree and picked a small tree branch which was laying on the ground before returning to the bear¡¯s corpse. Closing his eyes, a small number of blue dots appeared around the top of the tree branch, gathering just at the tip. Using mana to empower his own body would result in a backlash, his limbs were still too weak to handle being empowered. They might break under the pressure just like his right hand earlier. Although Dias¡¯s body was a little more developed compared to the other child¡¯s one, his strength still wasn¡¯t enough to skin a bear by using just his little hands. But by using the sharpness of a tree branch furthermore enhanced by a little amount of mana; just enough of it not to break, it was more than enough to just skin the bear. Using the tip of the branch as if it was a knife, Dias skillfully operated the bear¡¯s corpse. His movements looked very slow, but they were incredibly sharp. Not a single useless movement, each of them was carefully calculated in order not to damage the fur. In no more than five minutes, the bear was completely skinned, leaving behind only his meat. Using the bear¡¯s fur, he made himself some very crude and simple clothes. A small pants accompanied by legs warmer, two a very crude shirt followed by two armbands. Making this whole set had taken him a full hour and was extremely crude and simple, but it was still far better than staying naked. In this set, Dias looked like a savage from a tribe. But until he managed to find some better clothes, he had to endure it and stick with them. However, there was one thing which displeased him. No matter what, he couldn¡¯t endure it at all. His expression showed his disgust without hiding it. ¡°This fur really stink¡ I better wash it as soon as I can.¡± The skin came from a dead animal after all, he wished he would find a river really quickly and wash those ¡®clothes¡¯ as soon as he could¡ Taking a bath at the same occasion after being contaminated by the fur¡¯s delicate scent. Looking at the sky, Dias¡¯s face suddenly looked serious. The sun was slowly setting and after only a few hours the predators would wake up and start looking for food. During the day, the prey went to find food while their predator were sleeping. And during the night the prey hid themselves in fear while the predators start their hunt. A vicious cycle called nature. For Dias whose body was weakened, even if a few wolves weren¡¯t his opponent, he was in a condition where he should preferably avoid fighting. Furthermore, with the bear¡¯s corpse beside him, those predators with a high sense of smell will definitely come here. Using his branch, he quickly effortlessly cut through the bear¡¯s leg before throwing the branch away and leaving. The next thing he needed was some ration for his journey. He would have used the bear¡¯s meat if possible, but he would need to cook the food beforehand in order to remove the attractive scent of blood which would bait many vicious carnivores. It would take him many hours for this¡ Which he didn¡¯t have. For this reason, he only took a bear¡¯s leg which he would roast and eat today and search for rations tomorrow. He also needed to look for a river, albeit the bear¡¯s smell was unbearable it would at the very least keep animals away from him this night. Walking through the forest as he was collecting wood to make a fire camp, it didn¡¯t take long before he managed to find a cave. In fact, he had in no way walked randomly in the woods. He was orienting himself by staying in the area where the bear¡¯s claw mark could be seen in trees. The animals which claimed an area were always the strongest around it. It was dissuading other predators weaker than them from entering his territory and hunt his food. Within his area would, of course, be located the cave where he was living in. It didn¡¯t take him long to find a cave. Stopping for a moment, he used his senses to check if any animals or creatures were inside but as he didn¡¯t detect anything, he simply entered the cave. The cave wasn¡¯t very spacious, only three meters wide and fifteen meters deep. Despite not being big, it was still more than ample for him to spent a night and make a fire camp. Dias gathered most of the wood in a corner of the cave before piling up a few of them in the middle of the cave. Extending his hand toward the wood, a little flow of mana traversed his mana circuit, gathering at his hand in the form of a very thin blue trail. ¡°Flame.¡± He said as the mana trail suddenly became crimson and transformed into a fire spark, setting ablaze the wood. Though he couldn¡¯t use a large quantity of mana, something as simple as kindling some wood wouldn¡¯t affect his body. Using the fire, Dias started to roast the bear¡¯s leg. It only took a few minutes before a delicate and exquisite odor started to assail his nostrils. Remembering that he hadn¡¯t eaten any food for at least severals months, Dias¡¯s stomach started to leak a few screams, wanting to be filled as much as possible. Even though the meat wasn¡¯t fully cooked, Dias could only barely stop himself from eating it.Saying that hunger was the best ingredient was definitely true, those who said ¡°love is the best ingredient¡± probably never truly starved in their whole life. When the meat was almost cooked Dias immediately rushed on it, eating it like a savage animal. The large chunk of meat disappeared in only a few dozens of seconds, leaving behind only a few bones on which not even a single gram of meat could be seen. They were so clean that it looked like they had been polished. After eating a few meals within months, Dias felt himself become very sleepy. He rested beside the fire, thinking about the preparations he would have to do tomorrow and wondering if he would, at least, be able to see Alseia in his dream.
