《Faonus》
Chapter 1: Getting Myself Killed
I was humming to myself, happy that it was summer. I planned on heading home immediately, but I decided to go shopping first for some food. With only one look at my empty fridge, you could tell that I must be starving.
As I made my way to the nearest grocery shop, I noticed a loud thud coming from the adjacent building. Thinking that it was just some construction work, I carried on with my shopping. A couple minutes later, I contemplated whether I should buy vegetables or not. I really hated them, but they''re healthy. Never mind, I''ll save my money for this bag of chips instead.
After finishing up and paying the cashier, I could finally make my way back home. Crossing the same building where I heard that thud from earlier, I now heard a scream. This can''t be good.
Curiosity taking over, I entered the building. My first thought was that this place was most definitely abandoned. There was barely any sound, which made this eerily creepy.
Usually, I would be running out of this place since it''s scary, but for some reason I wanted to explore. Walking up the stairs to where I assumed to be leading to the attic, I heard a sound.
"Please don''t kill me!"
It was the voice of what I assumed to be a teenage male. This seems bad, but I want to see what''s happening. I just need to be sure that I won''t get discovered or anything.
As I crept as quietly as I could towards the door where I heard the sound from, and I peeked through the gap that the door was leaving open. I saw three people. One was the victim, who was mostly likely the one screaming from earlier. He looked like he was already injured enough, though. There were scars all over his body and some gunshot wounds here and there.
The other two were probably some type of serial killers or something. They had the stereotypical ski masks over their head. I mean, why does no one wear Iron Man helmets or something? That would be so much cooler.
Now I''m questioning my priorities for thinking about an Iron Man helmet instead of trying to help this person who''s most likely going to die. But it''s not like I could do anything anyway. I''m not even that strong or athletic, so I would probably just get killed.
I was wondering whether I should help this person or not, though. I can''t stand the thought of knowing someone that''s going to die in front of me and not doing anything about it. What can I do, though?
Oh right, guess I should call the cops first huh? I need to look for somewhere else first so that they won''t hear me. I made my way back down to the first floor of the building and called them. No one answered. Seriously? Well, this sucks. I tried for another ten minutes or so, and no one picked up.
This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
Since there''s no sense in continuing to try, I decide to head back up and check out what''s happened over the course of the time I''ve been down head. I finally make my way back up and look through the gap in the door again.
Pretty much everything is the same as before, but this time one of the serial killer people thingamajig is on his or her phone. And that sound... Is that Flappy Bird? So you''re telling me that this person is seriously playing Flappy Bird while severely inuring someone to the point that they might die? They must have some high standards. What''s next, they''ll eat some spaghetti?
Moreover, is that game even relevant anymore. I''m surprised they still even have that game.
Honestly though, that person who''s basically has a gun up to his head look like he''s having a terrible time. Not a bad time. But a terrible time. Get your references outta here.
One thing I found strange is that they didn''t say anything this entire time. Could I just not hear them, or did they know that I was here? I hope it''s not the latter.
So many questions, and I didn''t have a single answer. Why am I even here? I should be at home, comfortable in my blanket, and playing some games.
But I guess that it''s time to step in now. That person is probably going to be killed sooner or later anyway. But first, I need a plan. Maybe I should distract them somehow? How would I do that, by throwing some rocks? Actually, that seems like a decent idea.
So then, I tried searching for some rocks, but I couldn''t find any. That sucks. Well, it wasn''t a very good plan anyway. Don''t listen to what I said before about it being decent.
I guess the only thing to do now is... To rush in!
I slammed the door open and rushed in. I made my way to the nearest killer and tried to tackle them but...
BAM!
Hm? I can''t feel anything anymore. Did I seriously just get shot? Well, I did deserve it for doing something as stupid as that. Still, dying at seventeen? That''s way too young. And I didn''t even get the chance to eat that bag of chips I bought earlier.
I guess I''m dead now.
"Ha, nope."
Wait, what?
Chapter 2: Meeting
The moment I died, I heard this voice. It didn''t seem like it came from any direction, it was inside my mind. Telepathy? Maybe not. Maybe I''m just hallucinating since I''m dead. Is this what heaven is like?
I take a look at my surroundings. Nothing but a bright white light shines from every direction. I try to move, but for some reason I can''t. It''s like I''m paralyzed or something like that.
After continuously trying to move for a while, I could spot a figure in the distance. I had no clue who it was, but I did know that they were slowly getting closer.
"Howdy!"
Wondering how to answer, I decide to speak formally, since this person seems to be someone important.
"Hello, sir."
"Drop the act. Just speak normally, I don''t bite. Well I do sometimes, though."
"Wait, can you read minds?"
The figure stopped walking.
"Are you really serious?"
So he can read minds, huh...
"No, of course I can''t read minds!"
I stared at him blankly, while the person just stood there and laughed.
"By the way, I''m a guy. So you can stop replacing me with ''the person''. Personally, i prefer ''he''."
Holy crap. He can break the fourth wall too? Is he a god or something?
"Enough with the chit-chat. For now, at least. You must want to know why you''re here, right?"
I nodded my head. Well, I tried, but I couldn''t move at all. Then why could I move my mouth? Also, he looked like he was right in front of me, why couldn''t I see him still?
"Oh wait, yeah. I forgot that you couldn''t move. Let me take that binding spell off."
After he did some um.. stuff, I could finally move. First I stretched my body, and I was amazed by all the cracks that my bones made. Was my body really that inflexible?
"Wow, kid. You''ve got some weird fetishes."
"Screw you, man."
"Is that how you treat a god?"
"So you are a god..."
"Of course I am!"
"Never mind that. I want to know why I couldn''t move any other part of my body except my mouth."
"You seriously don''t want to know why you''re here instead of being dead?"
"Uh.. Yeah."
He paused for a moment before answering.
"Well, it''s because I don''t have enough skill to fully control my powers."
"Wow, you suck."
"You''re the rudest human I''ve ever met."
Okay, now instead of talking about this, I should actually be asking the important questions.
"Anyways, where am I and what''s going to happen?"
"Ah, so now you want to know?"
"Just tell me."
"What''s the magic word?"
"Please. Now tell me."
"Wrong."
"S''il vous plait."
"Still wrong. Why are you even trying to speak French, human? You also suck at it, you forgot the circumflex."
"Please. TELL ME."
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
"Oh. Well why didn''t you say so before then?"
Screw this stupid god. Argh!
"I''ll explain now. So since you were stupid enough to get yourself killed for no reason, I thought it was pretty funny and decided to try and bring you back to life because I was feeling nice today."
"Wait, so you can''t even control your powers yet you''re trying to bring back to life. Are you going to fail in the process or something and then I''ll die?"
"Don''t judge a book by its cover, you fool. Different people are good at different things."
"Have you ever tried reviving someone before? How do you know that your''e good at it?"
"Well, no. But I''m pretty sure that I can do it!"
Yep, I might die here.
"Let''s get on the revival process now. I need to know two things."
I listened quietly, waiting for him to say something. A minute full of silence passed by.
"What are the things?"
"Oh, I''m so glad you asked!"
Oh, so that was it.
"First, I need to know your name. So what''s your name?"
"It''s Aysel."
He began to speak again, but then he hesitated and stopped. Probably rethinking his choice of words, he spoke up again.
"Aysel, huh? That''s an unusual name. It''s not a very good one."
I''m not even going to bother arguing with this person anymore.
"Please continue."
"You''re so impatient. Next I have to know what type of world you want to be reborn in."
"Wait, so I won''t go back to my own world?"
"Of course not. I already told you that I can''t fully control my powers. But I can give a world with magic and stuff."
"Ohhh magic. I''ve always wanted to play with fire. I''ll choose that, thanks."
"Alright, so I can finally begin the process. Here''s a bit of helpful advice for you though. You''ll arrive in the middle of a field as your seven or eight year old self. And the rest is up to you now, see you later!"
Watching as a dim black light surrounded me, my body started to slowly disappear.
I feel like there was too much talking and not much actual dialogue. I also plan to make the chapters longer in the future (since this was pretty short), and any recommendations are greatly appreciated!
By the way, what type of magic do you guys think Aysel will get?
Chapter 3: Exploring the New World
When the light stopped, my surroundings changed. Like he said, I was in a plain grassy field, and I couldn''t see anything else in the distance.
The first thing I did was to take a look at my body. No, not in the way that some of you might be thinking, but to see if I''m actually my seven year old self again. It sure does feel like it though.
I checked my hands first. Okay, I''m definitely younger. Didn''t he say that there''s magic as well? I have to try this, it''s fire time!
How do I use it though? Maybe if I concentrate super hard and imagine it happening, I can do it.
"Uargghhhh!!!!"
A while passed along with some more screaming. It sounded like I was constipated or something like that, and I''m glad that no one was around to hear it. Needless to say, nothing happened. Well then, that was still pretty embarrassing.
Suddenly I began to realize that I had to find food and shelter before I starved out here in the cold.
Deciding which way to head would be the best, I ended up picking randomly and hoping for best. I didn''t wan to lose any time, so I sprinted at full pace. I soon came to realize though that it wasn''t a very smart thing to do since I wasn''t very athletic and ran out of breath soon after. Being a kid again has its limitations.
I continued to run, but for some strange reason I still couldn''t see anything. Was this some sort of illusion? I don''t know. Well, I guess I''ll keep on running.
So another ten minutes pass by, and just as I''m about to give up, I spot a shape in the background. It looked like some sort of town, or kingdom. Finally! I took a short break first to regain my lost energy, and then I started to sprint the rest of the way. I was happy that my running finally paid off.
As I began to approach the area, I noticed a strange shift in the atmosphere. It was very cheery, like it was a festival from the middle ages. There was Irish music playing in the background like those stereotypical video games. Never mind that though.
I tried to enter through the front gates, but one of the guards stopped me.
"What were you dong outside the gates, kid?"
I had no clue as to how to respond to this. Just so you know, I am a terrible liar, so this situation is quite bad for me. Then the other guard started to speak.
"Hey, you''re scaring the kid, just look at him. Who''s your family, kiddo?"
That was an even harder question to respond. Quick, think of something, anything!
"Umm... So, my dad took me out to go hunting with him and then we got separated. His name was.. uh.. Shrek."
They looked at me weirdly, a face of worry and confusion at the same time.
"So you and your dad got separated and you aren''t crying. What a brave little fella. What should we do with the kid, though? His dad''s probably dead now with the sudden change in attitude from the monsters..."
"Hey, not so loud, the kid might hear you!"
I couldn''t hear them, since they were mumbling. I don''t know if I could ask, but since I was a child in this world I figured it would be alright.
"What are you guys talking about?"
Both of them turned their heads in unison and said the exact same thing.
"Nothing!"
That was neat. Anyways, I needed a way to enter and stop talking with these two guards. Right after I had that thought one of the guards immediately spoke up again.
"Anyways, kiddo. We''re going to have to take you to an orphanage, so follow me, okay? My shift is over anyway."
Of course, I was pretty sure that I knew what they were trying to do, but I had to play my part as the kid.
"Okay!"
The guard that called me ''kiddo'' started to walk into the town, so I started to follow behind him. After a couple of turns here and there and complete silence throughout the entire walk, we ended up at what seemed to be a small house, one that you would assume to be a bakery shop or something.
Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.
He lifted his hand in the air and pointed to the shop.
"Well, we''re here. I''ll lead you in."
We entered the shop and the first thing I noticed was that there was a woman at the counter along with a bunch of kids around playing with toys. It made me smile that kids were actually playing with toys, instead of their phones, although I don''t think those exist here.
"Oh, hi there Jamire!"
The woman called out to the man who was leading me. So his name was Jamire. I took another look at the woman. She looked to be in her twenties, she had brown hair and was rather well endowed . Wait, I shouldn''t be thinking about this stuff, I''m a ten year old!
I waited for a while since they were having a chat, but then I got bored and decided to explore. I began walking around the place and looking at the objects in the house. Most of the stuff I could recognize, like tables and chairs, but there was some stuff that I didn''t know.
An orb or something was sitting inside of a glass case, and it had this pretty blue and red glow to it. I wanted to touch it, but I figured that I shouldn''t touch other people''s stuff, since it''s rude.
Deciding that I had already explored enough, I went back to the main area to meet with Jamire and the woman.
"Ah, kiddo! Just in time. You''re going to stay here until we find your dad, okay?"
"Uh.. Okay!"
"Let me do the introductions. Kiddo, this is Lauren. Lauren, this is umm..."
"It''s Aysel."
"Right! This is Aysel. Well then, I''ll take my leave now. It was nice meeting you, Aysel, I might come to visit you again. Bye!"
I waved at him when he left through the door, and he smiled. It was reassuring, knowing that I had someone who could help me later on.
Turning around, I saw Lauren. She signaled for me to come to her. So I slowly walked up and positioned myself to sit at the chair in front of the counter.
"So, Aysel. You''re going to stay here, dear. We already have a room for you, and we can also set you up to go to school if you want to. So what do you think? Of course, it''s entirely optional, sweetheart."
"Yes, please!"
"Haha, alright. But first, you need to sleep. You seem tired, and it''s getting late. Your room is the first one to the left when you go up the staircase, you can''t miss it. Here are the keys!"
She hands me a key and I take it. I immediately retreat to my room, wanting to sleep, but then...
GROWL...
Was that my stomach?
Before I knew it, everyone surrounding me was laughing. It doesn''t feel good, having a bunch of nine year old''s laughing at you. I''m seven, but I still have the mentality of a seventeen year old. I walked back to the front where Lauren was, and she was smiling while she just handed me a sandwich. I quickly took it and said thanks while continuing back up to mu room.
The moment I entered, I jumped on the bed enjoying the comfortableness of it. Then, I ate my sandwich. I was surprised, since it actually tasted quite good. After I got everything sorted out, I began to fall asleep.
I don''t know how a growling stomach onomatopoeia should be used, and I don''t really like the ''growl''. It just sounds... wrong. Any suggestions? Anyways, next part will be up either later today or tomorrow. It''s going to have some action, so be prepared (not that much action)!
Chapter 4: Discovery and Shock
I woke up as the sunshine hit my face, causing me to stumble from the bed. I stood up and looked out the window. It looked like it was going to be a nice and sunny day out.
Since I had woken up early, I needed a way to kill some time. So I went downstairs and grabbed a few books. Some about the history of the world, and some about magic. Mostly about magic. I brought them back up to my room and began to read them. I was happy that the language in this world wasn''t all that different from English. There was just a little bit of weird grammar here and there, but otherwise it was fine.
I read for about an hour or so, and I had grasped the basic knowledge of this world. To summarize, this place is called Faonus and a long time ago humans and animals were living together happily until the animals started acting up and then started killing the humans. They had a war and then some more stuff happened. So later a truce was put up between the two and they started living happily ever after. Nice.
The magic was a little bit more complex though. Apparently you had to go through this magic redeeming thing where you determine your type of magic, and then you can use it. You can''t use it before that, which I thought was pretty dumb.
Six different types of magic existed: Fire, water, earth, electric, light, and dark. There was also physical, magical and passive types of magic. Once you were determined to have a certain type of magic, you couldn''t learn anything else. So basically if I had fire, I couldn''t learn water or earth or whatever. That was pretty much it.
Other than that, there wasn''t any other information other than that, because it''s classified and you''ll be taught how to do it anyways when you determine your magic type.
Starting to become hungry again, I head down to the kitchen to look for something to eat. Luckily there were some pieces of bread on the table, one for each plate. I counted each of the plates, and the number totaled to around twenty. So around twenty kids lived here. That''s probably why this place couldn''t afford to be too luxurious with things.
I took one and ate. Then, I wanted to asked one of the adults if they could take me to check my magic type. I approached a man who didn''t look all that muscular unlike the guards and reminded me a bit of my past self.
"Excuse me. Could you show me how to get my magic type checked?"
After speaking, I hadn''t realized that my grammar wasn''t befitting for a seven year old, but whatever. People might think that I was a child prodigy which would be amazing.
"How old are you?"
"Oh, I''m seven!"
"Really? Most kids get that done by the time they''re five. Okay, I''ll take you there, but we have to make it quick. I need to finish my job. Maybe I''ll just get someone else to take over..."
We left the place and headed somewhere. I had no clue where we were going, so I made a mental note to try and find a map of the town later. While I could, I tried to remember each area to the best of my ability.
"Oh yeah, I forgot to ask. What''s your name? Mine''s Edward."
"Mine''s Aysel."
"Aysel, huh? Interesting."
"Yeah, I get that a lot."
"Ha!"
Eventually, we arrived at a sinister looking shop. Something like a fortune teller''s hut, but surrounded by a dark aura and had a creepier feel to it. This seemed kinda sketchy.
"Are you sure that we''re at the right place?"
"Yeah, of course! You see, that kid just came out! Alright, let''s go in now."
Slightly doubting him, we entered through the door, but I was still wary and walking behind Edward.
Before me was an old man, wearing a cloak. There was a magic orb, similar to the one I found in Lauren''s orphanage, and there was also six different cards. Red, blue, green, yellow, white, and black. Those were what I assumed to be the different types.
"Hey man, this kid wants to know his magic type."
"Alright, pay the fees. Five hundred corse."
"Really? That''s pretty cheap."
"Consider it a one-time discount for being a regular customer."
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
"Aw, thanks man."
After Edward paid the old man the fees, the old man pointed to me in a way that he wanted me to sit down on the chair.
"Choose one of the cards. Which one appeals to you most."
Of course, I immediately took the fire card.
"Now place it on top of the orb. It shall determine everything. Your fate. Your life. Everything."
I slowly and carefully placed it on top of the orb. Immediately the orb sucked in some sort of energy from the card, and that energy was now swirling in a circle. I was waiting for the orb to form a red color, but nothing happened.
"Put your hand on the orb."
Nodding quickly, I placed my hand on the orb. The energy that was swirling in the orb was now connecting to my hand. It felt weird, like someone was pulling you, but they couldn''t even move you an inch because they were so weak.
Suddenly everything stopped.
A card appeared in front of the old man, and he was reading it.
I waited quietly, but on the inside my mind was just begging me to jump over the table and take a look.
"Your type is water."
WHAT?!
"I wanted fire!"
"Don''t whine... This is amazing!"
I stared at the old man. He looked completely surprised and flabbergasted. Is that even a word? Flabbergasted?
"What''s so amazing about getting a water element?"
"No... You don''t know it yet, but you have three elements!!!"
"So?"
"Do you realize how amazing that is?!"
I''m amazed how an old man like this could be so excited. I look around me again, and I spot Edward, with his mouth agape. I forgot that he was even there.
"Hey, Edward. How good is three elements?"
Startled by my sudden question, he twitched and hit his head on the back on the wall. It wasn''t very nice, but I laughed. It looked hilarious. He regained composure later though, looking calm.
"It''s great. Only one person is known to have two elements, and that person is marked as a legend in history."
Well, at least someone is calm. I turned back to the old man.
"So, um.. You told me that one of the elements was water, right? What are the other two?"
"Th- They''re dark and earth."
"What?! Seriously, still no fire? Come on..."
They both just stared at me blankly, face palming. I probably said something stupid. Not wanting to stay in this awkward environment anymore, I stood up and started to leave and Edward followed behind. I waved at the old man.
"Bye!"
"Oh, wait! Don''t leave yet, I have to give you these books!"
Hearing that, I turned back around and entered the shop again. The old man took out three old looking books and handed them all towards me.
"These are the elemental books that can teach you how to practice your magic. Normally, I only give one, but since you have three types..."
I grabbed them contently, making sure that I did not seem too rude while doing so.
"Thank you!"
We then left, and our way back, none of us said a word.
When we finally made our way back, I immediately made my way back to my room. I don''t know where Edward went, but I didn''t care, since all I wanted to do now was practice my magic. I was still pretty upset that I didn''t get fire, but I''ll take three elements, I guess.
I examined the books. There was one for water, earth, and dark. Which one should I start with first? It''s time to start practicing!
Now, there was only one thing I had to be careful of. And that was to not destroy the house.
Yeah, there was no action this chapter... Sad [th_093.gif] It was supposed to be longer, but since it''s getting late (and because of the poll decision), I decided to cut it here and sleep. Might not upload for the next two days because I have a project to do, which is also why I chose a two day time limit for the poll. Any predictions for the next chapter?
