On a hot sunday night of August, a young and handsome boy about 17 years old was hurrying trough the courts of a governmental buildingThe man was walking quickly towards a small gray and square building. Reaching the doors, he suddenly slowed before stopping completely, apparently unsure of what he was supposed to do. While he was wondering if he should enter or not, the doors flew wide open and a middle aged woman with nice features and a military uniform bumped in the young man. "Ouch, sorry Saito, the commander wants you on the floor right now!" The boy was slowly getting up, rubbing his elbow and looking elsewhere, trying to avoid any eye contact with the lady. "Thanks Mrs. Fisher" Saito got in while still trying to avoid contact. The room he got in was about 500 feet long by the same thing large and was filled with technicians and computers, as well as half a dozen of people who looked so weird in the middle of all these persons all dressed in lab coat. At the far end of the room, a place that seemed like more of a military command centre than a conference table. A severe looking man was issuing orders to a bunch of people while pointing things on 3 different screens. Saito went straight to the group of strange looking people and asked the nearest person, a guy in his late thirties with a 3 days old beard and pink haired. "Hey Gin! What''s up"? The guy turned around and gave a happy smile. "Saito, there you are! I don''t know, they called me while I was in the shower so they explained nothing. Probably another one of those things..." While Saito was talking to Gin, the man who seemed like the general got down of the command zone to the eccentric bunch. "You''re attention ladies and gentlemen, I called you here tonight because we have detected a new anomaly. As you all know, as the 13th division of the UCF (Author''s note: united coalition forces), we are tasked with taking care of all those anomalies that are called [Tears of Pandemonium]. You all are here as new members since you received an Imprint." Gin bent over to Saito and whispered; "Is he really forced to do the intro speech all over again for every newbie coming here"? "Well, I remember when you got here. You were pretty happy to have that newbie intro speech..." Gin''s face turned a bit red while he shut his mouth and the commander went on with the speech. "Aya, you''re new here. What do you know about the [Tears]"? The girl who answered was indeed a new member, with long black hairs, black eyes and small stature. She was the best example of a typical japanese schoolgirl. " Well, Professor Yamataki told me that [Tears of Pandemonium] are sorts of gateways to other worlds called "planes". He also told me that they can be found anywhere on earth since our world is what he called the [Pandemonium Lock]. I didn''t understand everything but I thought it was important. He also talked about something called the [Imprint] but I did not quite understand that either. The commander said in a fatherly fashion (which resulted in the others looking at him weirdly): "It''s okay Aya, you''ll have time to learn later. For now, Gin, come here and tell us what''s your [Imprint]. Gin smirked and backed of a bit. Saito knew what was coming and went hiding with the commander and the rest of the group who already saw Gin''s [Imprint]. "Aya, you should do like that bunch over there..." "O...Okay" After Aya retreated, Gin went to an area seemingly made for the sole purpose of demonstrating [Imprints]. At this moment, in a radius of 10 meters around Gin, the armed concrete which composed the floor was pushed down by 10 inches deep. On the ground, thousands of holes the size of a needle appeared. Seeing the questions floating in the eyes of Aya, Saito said; "Gin''s [Imprint] is a really powerful one. It increases the gravity around him while strengthening him so it won''t crush him. Even a nuke couldn''t go trough this guy. As for the holes on the ground, try to guess." "Hum, another effect of his [Imprint]?" "Actually, it''s a side effect of the gravity field that surrounds him. It''s dust." "Wait. You say that he increase the gravity enough to transform dust in a lethal weapon?" "Aye." Aya gazed at Gin with amazement while he asked Saito to toss something at him. The young man took a gun out of his jacket and shot Gin multiple times. The sound resounded in the building loud and clear, just covered by Aya''s screech. Saito looked at her with amusement in his eyes. "It''s okay Aya, you can stop now." "WHY DID YOU SHOOT HIM! HE COULD''VE DIED! "Nah, he''ll be alright." Saito looked so calm that Aya thought that maybe he was right. At this moment, Saito yelled at Gin. "''Kay Gin, toggle it off, I won''t shoot you more!" "You better or else I''ll kill you!" Hearing the sound of Gin''s voice made Aya''s mind calm. He was still alive after all! The commander came from behind and started to laugh. "Don''t worry Aya, Gin''s an Ares [Imprint]. He won''t die this easily and if it would happen by any misfortune, we''re covered for it anyway." Aya raised her hand as if she was at school. "Please, Aya." "You don''t have to raise your hand to talk you know?" "Yes mister commander." "And call me Mr. Tanaka, not commander." "Yes mister comman... Tanaka!" Saito and Gin were giggling. "Nobody calls you Mr. Tanaka, pops!" "Yhea, we call you pops, Eyebrows and I even recall Ember calling you Honeybee!" Now the two boys were laughing openly and the commander was smiling while throwing daggers by his eyes. "You like good jokes Saito?" "Well I''ve got a nice on for you." "You''ll be Aya''s caretaker until she gets assigned to a platoon!" "She can sleep with Myu in her room." "Dismissed." As commander Tanaka issued his order, Saito stopped laughing with a look of despair on his face. Gin, him, was still laughing. "Aw man, sucks to be you!" "Why did he do that to me!" "He said that you were the last one I''ll need to pamper!" "You didn''t pamper me?!" "Even in the Navy, the training is less harsh!" "That''s because you''re a sissy, Gin." "Well, the sissy doesn''t have a trainee on his back and bid you farewell!" On those words, Gin left, leaving Aya and Saito alone with the technicians. Saito turned over to face Aya who''s face were as red as a cherry. "Am I that much of a bother?" "Well, it''s not that I hate you or anything, it''s just that I''m not that good with people." "That, and the fact that I wasn''t supposed to have another trainee before one whole year." "Pops is going to pay later but for now, how about we get going?" "Myu''s going to be happy to see another girl." Aya blushed even more. "You''re living with a girl?" "In the same room?" "Well, first off, it''s not a room but more like an apartment and secondly, Myu was my little sister." Aya thought he may have made a mistake in pronouncing "was". It was a bunch of weird people after all and they were probably foreigners by some way...He probably wanted to say "Myu is my little sister". And together, they went towards Saito''s apartment. Chapter 2: Jekyle AUTHOR''S NOTE: THIS CHAPTER IS A BIT LINGER THAN THE OTHER ONE AND ONCE AGAIN I ASK YOU TO POINT OUT ANY MISTAKES SO THAT I CAN CORRECT THEM. THANKS!!! PS: I''LL TRY TO GET 3-4 CHAPTERS A WEEK BUT PLEASE NOTE THAT I USED THE WORD "TRY"! "Myu, I''m home!" A little girl came rushing down the stairs so fast one would think she was actually flying. "Nii-chan!" After Saito finished saying hello to his sister, he made the presentations. "Myu, here''s Aya, she''ll be living in your room for the time being.""Aya, this is my little sister Myu.""Please take care of her." Aya was stunned. She couldn''t utter a word and her jaw was dropping. Myu went to her and took her hand. "You okay miss lady?" In an instant, Myu was in Aya''s arms, being hugged and cuddled. "Shtop it!" "I can''t, you''re just way too cute for me to be tired of it even after a week!" Saito rolled is eyes and told them to come to the dining room when they would be done. Fifteen minutes later, an exulting Aya and a slightly exhausted Myu rejoined Saito who was setting the table. "So." Said Saito while they were starting to eat."Do you know what the [Imprint] is?" Aya pondered a while before answering. "Isn''t it some kind of special power like Gin''s?" "Yes, but more precisely, it''s an expression of the powers of the inhabitants of the world to which the [Tear of Pandemonium] you touched leads." "When you touched the tear for the first time, what did you see?" Aya smiled while remembering that nice sight. "Well, there was strange plants and many little lizards running everywhere." "Then, there was a big fire and the little lizards went gray and curled in a ball form." "They were fine after that so it''s okay..." Saito looked at her intensely and finally, when Aya thought that he may have fallen asleep, he talked. "We''ll go see Jekyle tomorrow to see in which platoon you''ll be." "Will I get an apartment too?" "I don''t think so." "Why?" "Commander Tanaka said that I would live with you until I get assigned to a platoon!" "I don''t think you quite get it, don''t you?" "Pops want me to train you, not just answer your questions and feed you!" "Are you even old enough to teach anything?" "I''ve got ten years of experience behind me." "How old are you?" "I''m seventeen." ----|----|----|----|----|----|----|-- It was about 11:30 and the two girls were getting ready for bed. Aya was wearing a straight blue night dress while myu was wearing a cute panda pajama. Aya couldn''t stop cuddling her since the cute factor went up by leaps and bounds. "Please don''t stroke my head while I''ll be sleeping, it would be creepy." Aya pouted before straightening her face. "Myu, can I ask you something?" "Yes?" "Does Saito-kun hates me?" "During all the duration of the first meal we shared, he couldn''t stop grinning as he was talking about my training and how much he''ll make me sweat blood..."" He''s a bit scary..." Myu giggled as she replied with a smile; "Actually, it''s the exact opposite!" "What?!" "Yhea, last time I saw him riled up like this, it was at the time he was training Gin onii-sama and look at them now, they''re best friends!" "I heard something about this." "Gin-kun was trained by Saito-kun?" "Trained?" " It''s not the right word." "When Gin nii-sama came here first, he was really different from the one we know today." " He was really disrespectful and cheeky and didn''t follow the orders of anyone, even if it could harm other people." Aya couldn''t believe that Gin could''ve been as bad as Myu described. He seemed so helpful and nice! "One day, he refused to execute an order and it resulted in the death of his entire platoon. That''s why he was sent here in Japan, the country where he was stationed had laws that would have made necessary the need of a more brutal form of disposal." "When Gin arrived, Mr. Tanaka saw the problem and sent him to nii-chan so he could properly train him." "His training was so harsh that it broke the mind of Gin nii-sama several times." "At the end, Gin was tenfold stronger than he was originally and understood the value of his life and the ones of his teammates." "When I say harsh, it means that he had limbs literally chopped of." On those word, she turned over and curled in a ball, falling asleep. Aya was looking at the ceiling while trying to sleep too but the recurring thought of chopped limbs couldn''t stop swinging in her head. ----|----|----|----|----|----|----|-- In the morning, when Aya got down for breakfast, she thought Saito would be there but didn''t see him. She ate and went outside to look for him. She asked directions to an employee that indicated the training area. "If you''re looking for him in the morning, just know that he''s her from 3 in the morning to lunchtime." "3 in the morning?" Aya thought. "How horribly late in the morning for training!" She went trough the doors of the training hall, to see Saito working up on a punching bag. Without even looking back, he called for Aya. "Good, since you''re here already, let''s head for Jekyle''s lab" He vanished in the showers, only to get back 5 minutes later with a towel on his head and a black tee-shirt. Aya thought for a moment he looked really handsome with his jet-black hairs, muscles and pointy face but shook the thought of her head while going after him. "Now, be careful around that guy, he''s a bit frosty on the edges." "Just remember that just because he''s the head of the research department means he can do anything to you..." "What?!" "This means keep his hands off your butt!" A young woman was waiting for her beside the doors of the lab and was smiling. She was a very nice looking girl with nice features and brown, long hairs. She was wearing short jeans that stopped about 5 inches before the knees and a red leather jacket covered with metal clasp. Aya was a bit concerned about her own garment, her school uniform. Since she got extracted in the middle of the night, she only could grab her uniform and a night dress. "Hi Ember." "Getting in for a checkup?" "Aye." "Doc wants to check on my jacket, see if it hold out." "As much as I can see, since I can wear it, it''s pretty useless to come but he insisted." "I also need to say I''m a bit interested in the new girl." "Aya, isn''t it?" "Y...yes!" "I''m Ember, nice to meet you." "Nice to meet you too!" Saito looked bored and said; "Now that we''re done with all the chitchat, could we get in?" "Sure sweetie, don''t be so rash." "Don''t call me sweetie." When they entered in the lab, Aya was impressed by the number of machines and cables laid everywhere, and by the thousands of little spider robots crawling everywhere. "Finally!" "I almost died of loneliness while you were away!" The man that talked was about 45 years old, with a white pinch and a "kiss the geek" tee-shirt. He wasn''t fat nor muscular, on the opposite, he was thin and bony, seeming like you could break him just by blowing some air on him. "Shut up, dirty old man, I know that you''re always everywhere with your damn spiders. I even found one guess where?" "In my shower!" Ember tossed him the melted remains of what seemed like a spider bot. "I came for my jacket but now you know it didn''t turned to ashes, I''ll just be watching her identification." And she went to sit in a corner while swatting the spider that tried to get on her shoulder. As he just seemed to see Aya, the man went up to her and bent slightly more than average while holding her hand. "Greetings fair lady, my name is Clyde Jekyle, head of the research department of this facility." He kissed her hand while going back up. Saito was looking at him with disgust on his face. "Dirty old man." At this moment, Aya saw a spider bot under her with a mirror on it''s back. Jekyle was smiling. "White with pink dots, pretty nice sight..." Aya went down with a shriek trying to shoo away the spider, furiously blushing. Ember was laughing in her corner. "Told you!" "Well, besides entertaining an old man, what brings you here today?" Saito shrugged while helping Aya up on her feet. "I was hoping to have Aya tested to see to which class she belongs." The professor was now grinning ear to ear in anticipation. "Well, I can''t wait to see that..."
