 Prologue - Beginning

    Year 2080


    Virtual Reality has been a part of Society for more then 60Years. There are hundreds of Games on the market, for many Genres from Fantasy, Medival Age, Ego-Shooter, Science Fiction, Recreational Sports, to Constructive VRGs and more. Building Kingdoms, becoming the Worlds Heroes, destroying Worlds, Reliving past Historical Events (such as Wars, Epidemics, Natural Disasters), Conquering Space, playing Virtual Soccer, Surfing not only on waves but even among Stars or on the Sun, other Sports, creating Zoo''s, Gardens, Villages,Kingdoms, and nearly everything else imaginable.


    Even with the VR-Technology  having advanced to such a high level, there were still boundaries which nobody has been able to overcome. There were limits for pure realitism, the amount of time and time difference we can tolerate are just a few of them. Nobody has been able to adapt their technology fully to the Human brain, as it is unique and even with modern technology, contains more misteries than answers.


    The time difference has been stuck at a 1:8 ratio for more than forty years. Of course there were many tries to go beyound this ratio, but our brains have not been able to handle it. Hundreds of thousands of People got mentally unstable, up to pure insanity, killing themselves or even thousands of People under the influence of their hallucination.


    The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.The Goverments have implemented strict laws which prohibit the use of any technology which goes behind those limits. Only a handful of Companies have gotten the authority to research overcoming the limits of our brains. Each company is closely watched by Goverment Agents and is under monthly sometimes weekly auditions of all their data.


    Among those authorised is Choi Corporation, a small company focused on rehabilitation and recreational Virtuality. Their greatest achievement has been curing the schizophrenic disorder through a special 1 year programm. Nobody has ever thought, they would produce anything related to entertainment, but this changed on the 1st may 2080. Choi Corporation has announced the release of a Virtual Reality Game, not just any game, but one with 99,9999999% announced realism and advertised breakthrough with never seen before Time ratio and security measures.

    Millers: "Good? What the hell could be good about this morning? What in the seven Hells is going on at Choi Corporation? 18 Years playable within 120 hours!?! How is that possible? Also explain, why you haven''t reported any of this!"


    Greta: "Sir, you know I can''t tell you how they were able to do it. The Implant in my head prevents me from leaking any Information about their Technologie. All I can is confirm that it''s safe. Their safety measures have been tested for 10 years, without a single failure! Any problem they could think of has been tested, more than which are required by the laws."


    Sighing, Millers asked: "You are sure it works 100%?"


    Greta: "Yes, Sir. I am arriving at Choi Corporation and need to go.", answered Greta while rolling her eyes about the obvious question.


    Millers: "Keep me posted about any problems, not only those related to their Technologie. Soon all Hell is going to get loose."


    She left the Bus at the Entrance Station of Choi Corp., going up the Stairs to the first Security Scanner. Her Name and Credentials were immediatly shown on the Screen, when she entered the Scanning Room:

    Door opening


    She went through the door and went to the Huge Building with Choi HQ written on it, passing through another 3 security perimeters and then taking the passage to the Lab, entering through the special security point.


    "Good morning Dr. Fischer. So the announcement is finally out, huh. It''s gonna be a tough time from now on."


    Dr. Fischer looked up from the dozens of screens in front of her and answered:"Good morning Greta. You are certainly right. A lot of the other companies which produce VR-Tech will try to get information about our technology, but we are sure our security measures will suffice."


    "I certainly hope so, but those companies won''t be the only ones. Many organisations and even some goverments will be trying to get this information.", said Greta taking off her coat and hanging it over a free chair. "Living through years in only a few days would be increadible valuable for reasearch or trainings. Imagine bringing up employes with dozens of years of experience, while they actually are new to a project and things alike."


    Tilting her head, Dr. Fisher thougth for a couple of secounds before replying: "You are right, that''s why we have been so secretive about everything for the past 10 years and up till now, no one had any idea about our progress. I am sure we will be able to keep things up for quite some time. Anyway, please look over the latest results of our security tests, everything needs to perfectly safe, when we release the game."


    Nodding, Greata started to look over the data and once in a while she punched a request for more specific Information, into the keyboard.


    Meanwhile at the Govermental Secure VR ¨C Department Headquarters


    Director Millers stood up from his desk while cursing loudly:"Fucking hell, this is going to start a fucking crisis.", pressing the announcement button for the whole department, he said:" Attention everybody! We are going on early alarm yellow 12. Choi Coorperation seems to have had a huge breakthrough in their VR-Technology. Section A, contact all our branches and coordinate an information network solely for this. Section B, inform all agents to keep a close look on the other VR-Companies, and to give alert if they even have slightest hint any of them are going to make a move at Choi Corp.. Section C, same thing about military companies and goverments. Section D inform the Board of International Goverments about the threat of this turning into an international conflict.

    Millers looked out of his office window into the clear sky, getting lost in his thoughts about what is to come and the Secure VR ¨C Department.


    The Board of International Goverments had been established in 2060 and consisted of the dominating 5 major federations and 3 minor unions:

    The American ¨C English Federation


    The Russian Federation


    The African Union


    The Antarctic and Ozeanic Union


    The Southern Asian Union


    Each federation was equal in power with each other, while the treaty of 3 unions made the unions equal to a federation. The B.I.G biggest responsibility was to keep the equality of the members and a lasting peace between all of them. A few years after the VR-Technology first started, the federations and unions had been at war with each other to collect the best technology for them, to improve their power and military might.


    Many cities were in ruins and even the virtual world got sucked into the conflict, many battles were fought, dozens of attempts to sabotage and corrupt each other''s technology were conducted, nearly collapsing all existing technology and destroying their own power. In these years many attempts to somehow overcome the current VR-Limits were made and hundred of thousands of people got affected by VR-Psycosis, going mentally unstable.


    To end this madness, the leaders of the federaionts and unions got together and established the B.I.G. and distributed land, power and economy equaly amongst each other.


    It took another 5 years to restore all technology and the Secure VR ¨C Department was founded to keep the balance and prevent any more tragedies by using unsecure means and technology related to VR-Tech. The S.VR-D. is under direct command of the B.I.G, and has branches in all federations and unions.


    Each branch has thousand of agents keeping track of all related VR-Tech and research. To prevent any information leakage, each field agent has an implant which binds all related VR-Tech information and knowledge to the specific location of their work place.


    They only remember related information at those specific locations and Nerve-Nano-Bots prevent sharing any information to the outside of their work place by instantly blocking the information by any means necessary, which can include wiping the whole memory of the agent.


    In the next few days before the release, the internet communitys were going wild about the Announcement.


    Tom, a 17 year old shut in, though being a once in a century genius, was surfing through the gaming communitys when he stumbled upon


    posts about the announcement of Boundless Online.

    Mhhh, thought Tom, this Boundless Online sounds interesting, specially the part about blending out our memories of our real life. That means, we have to learn everything ingame on our own without any knowledge. Great, this will make being recognisable so much harder. I can''t wait for it to start.


    After ordering the game with the newest capsule module, Tom starting thinking about this chance to escape all the annoying thoughts and pressure for a few hours every day.

    *Door Bell* "Delivery for Mister Tom Schneider"


    Opening the door, Tom was looking at 2 bulky delivery men who were transporting a VR-Capsule.


    "Please come in and place the capsule into the empty corner of the living room.", said Tom while making space to let the men through.


    After placing the capsule down, one of the delivery men said: "These is the instruction manual for the capsule, also please sign here on the notepad with your thumb print, that you received the delivery."


    "Okay. Thanks a lot.", said Tom as he took the manual and placed it on the living room table, then taking the pad to give a thumb print to confirm the delivery. "Good bye and have a nice day."


    The delivery men nodded and left his flat to continue their deliveries.


    Tom started to set up the capsule and once he finished setting it up, he switched on the power and sat down into the capsule.

    Please be advised a special technology will prevend any thoughts about your real life while you are connected to Boundless Online.


    After your log out, you will be able to remember everything that happened in BO.


    Due to the intense condenced time ratio your maximum playtime will be 4 hours for the first 30 days, after which you won''t be able to log in for a minimum of 20 hours.


    These are safety measures to prevent any damage to you or your mind.


    After you finish the 30 starting days, you have to choose a set playtime, after which you will be logged out automatically.


    You will play your set amount of time straight, NO log out is possible from your side, as you won''t know that you are actually in a game.


    Should there be any emergency, your capsule will log you out into a safe zone for a few minutes, before ejecting you. There is also an eject command on the capsule, which can be pressed by others, for example if you are required to return to the real world.


    You will be able to preset certain aspects of your character and life.


    For example your race, path, specialization (healing, damage, politics, craftsmanship, ...)


    You can only choose your first name, as your family name will be inherited from your parents (ingame).


    Please be aware that you should decide a proper name fitting for a medival fantasy setting. As unusual names may not be given by your ingame parents or you might draw attention from other beings which could be positive or negative for yourself.


    Every Race and Region has their own language, beliefs, ... , just like in the real world. So you might meet someone which you can''t understand.


    If you want to play togehter with friends or family members, make sure they start the game at the same time as you, and everybody informs with who they want to play.

    Loud and heavy breathing came from the bed room, occasionally heavy moans and painful shouts,too.


    Village Healer: "Breathe slowly, air in, air out, air in, air out. Dorn, get some more wet towels, the contractions have set in. Fast."


    Heavy footsteps came as the answer while Dorn went to get wet towels.


    "Here." said Dorn, while giving the towels to the healer and then taking his wife''s hand, "Hang in there Honey, it won''t be for much longer."


    "AAAHHHHHHHHHHH, it hurts so much, when will it finally stop?", screamed Guthilde, heavealy panting, trying to breathe rhythmically.


    Twenty minutes of loud screams later.


    "You are almost there, I can already see the head. One more time, push with all your might!" Kneeling, the healer prepared herself to take the baby. "Good, good, one more time, push!"


    The baby was now fully out, in the arms of the healer and for a short moment, there was only silence in the room.


    Then the baby slowly opened it''s eyes, "waaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh".


    The healer slowly stood up and gave the boy to his mother, who lightly pressed him to her chest, "shhhhhh, my little baby, shhhhh".


    Dorn bend over his wife with glittering eyes, "He is wonderful and he has the same beautiful dark green eyes like you." He started to carefully stroke his newborn son, who stopped crying,closed his eyes and fell asleep.


    A few days later at the Village shrine of Knowledge.


    Placing the baby in front of the shrine, Dorn and his Wife Selise started chanting: "Oh spirits of knowledge, we shall ask for your guidance. Please offer your divination upon our Son.     Suddenly the shrine started glowing in a dim white light and a status box appeared in front of Dorn and Selise.

    Congar was sitting a few metres away from his father, in the backyard of their home. Staring at Dorn, while he was cutting wood.


    "Son, as I told you before, in this world we have energy and mana, their main difference is, that energy is found within living things while mana is surrounding everything. You and me both follow the path of energy. Today I will show you what it means to utilze energy.


    Close your eyes and concentrate on yourself, try to feel the warm energy within yourself. When you are able to find and connect to your inner energy, you simply push it through your body to where you want it, for example into your arms."


    Dorn''s arms started to dimly glow olive green, when he lifted his Axe with them und swung it down to cut the tree trunk in front of him.

    The tree trunk was cleanly split in half.


    Clapping wildy Congar was grinning wildly, "again, again, again"


    Sighing, Dorn turned to his Son, "No, it is your turn to try it now."


    "Okay", Congar closed his eyes and tried to feel anything. After a few seconds he opened his eyes, "Nothing, why can''t I feel anything?"


    "HAHAHAHA", Dorn started to laugh loudly, "you need to have patience. First you have to calm down and concentrate on a single point in your body, preferably the center of your body."


    Closing his eyes again, Congar started to concentrate on the center of his body.

    As if in trance he sat there, not moving at all for half an hour. Dorn was mustering his son, when suddenly a small, faint olive green glow formed around the chest of his son.


    Feeling the energy Congar started to push it to his hands, opening his eyes and seeing the faint glow around his hands, he raised his hands happily "YAY" while accidently brushing his forehead.

    The energy was released from his hands, hitting his head. Congar fell on his side, unconscious.


    Meanwhile Dorn stared at his son, unable to close his mouth.

    Ever since the car accident 10 years ago, Jake has been paralysed (paraplegic), staying in the hospital. For the past few years, he has been playing VR-Games as much as he could, just to escape the helplessness of being unable to do anything himself, but even while playing his mind got often distracted by the thoughts of having to go back into his paralysed body.     While using her left hand to put her long, black her behind her left ear, she looked at he young man starring at her. With his haggard face, framed with short bown hair, his crystal clear blue eyes looking at her,as if they have lost all hope.


    "Your mother thought you might be interested in Boundless Online and ordered a special medical capsule with the game, it should arrive any moment and will directly be set up for you."

    Boundless Onilne, On the main road from Flens City to Ludos City, Kershak Kingdom.


    Many carriages pulled by horses were travelling on the road to Ludos City, it was a middle sized merchant caravan with around 120 members and 30 wagoons, entering the first clearance of Groshak woods.


    Near the front of the caravan, screams could be heard for the past 90 minutes, while all members and horses felt more and more uncomfortable, as finally the screams stopped and a clear, soft


    "waaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh",could be heard.


    Relieved, the members of the caravan started smiling,


    "Seems like the little bugger finally made it out. I wonder if it''s a boy or girl."


    "Don''t worry, we will know shortly, there is no way Brock will stay silent, with his child finally being born."


    At the same moment a cherful Brock came out of his carriage, holding his child,


    "IT''S A BOY! Look how handsome he is!"


    Just as the words left his mouth, suddenly he was hit by a black arrow in the Chest,


    "uff" collapsing the little boy slipped out of his grip falling onto a small bale of hay,


    "waaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh".


    "IT''S AN ATTACK!! EVERYBODY RAISE YOUR SHIELDS AND PREPARE FOR BATTLE!!"


    Dozens of Arrows came flying onto the caravan, while it''s members lifted their shields and grabed their weapons. Suddenly atleast a hundred bandits came rushing out of the woods, engaging the front guards of the caravan.


    Many pained screams were heard, from those that got hit by arrows, when the linen cover of 4 carriages got pushed in the air and a blue shimmer was seen enveloping the person standing there.


    "They have mages! Everybody concentrate on the mages! Don''t give them time to cast big spells!"


    Arrows shimmering in an olive green came flying towards the 4 mages.


    "MAJESTIC WINDS, I SUMMON THY FURY, WIND BLAST!!" A strong wind guest went loose frome the mage''s hands, blowing the arrows aside and ramming into a row of bandits, sending them flying.


    But two Bandits dodged the blast and closed the distance to the wind mage nearly instantly, while emitting a soft olive green glow and swinging their blades at her, "EARTH STRIKE".


    In the last moment the mage created a wall out of wind, and blocked the first blade,


    "WIND SHIELD", starring shocked at the Bandit it front of her.


    ''Oh no, this is not a normal warrior, he is not simply using energy, but infusing it with the earth element!''


    The second blow connected to her shield and she was blown of the carriage, crashing onto the ground a few metres away.


    "Guah", pain running through her right shoulder as it got dislocated, breathing heavily she stood up hurriedly, leaning onto the carriage behind her and preparing another spell.


    ''Shit, both of them use the earth element. I have no choice but to cast a big AOE spell to stop them from reaching me.''


    Lifting her left arm into the air, she started gathering as much mana as she could from her surroundings, infusing it with the wind element. Just as the bandits attacked with another earth strike she expelled the mana and shouted:


    "WINDS OF DESTRUCTION I SHALL CALL UPON YOU TO TEAR APART MY ENEMIES, BLAST TORNADO!"


    The two mages in the middle of the caravan started gathering their surrounding mana and infusing it with the fire element and unleashing dozens of fireballs into the charging bandits. Many bandits started to catch fire, screaming in pain as they were consumed by the flames.


    When suddenly a huge sphere of water formed over their heads and sudenly burst, extinguishing the fire.


    "WATER SPHERE!", walking to the front was another bandit emitting a strong blue glimmer, pointing his arms towards the two fire mages,


    "WATER CANON!".


    Both fire mages raised their arms,   "FIRE SHIELD!" , their flames holding off the water streams,but the flames were slowly diminishing. While slowly retreating both of them were getting closer to each other, finally meeting when their backs hit a carriage, just as their fire shields evaporated. They could faintly hear a baby cry on the carriage.


    Nodding at each other they grabed each others arms while unleashing a huge amount of fire mana


    "OH MIGHTY FLAME, CONSUME EVERYTHING IN YOUR PATH ANDUNLEASH YOUR WRATH ON OUR ENEMIES,  INFERNO WRATH."


    Approaching them the water mage realesed an huge amount of water mana, "TSUNAMI WAVE".


    The fourth of the caravan''s mages was an arcane mage,pink stripes started to appear within the gathered mana as he started to use the primal mana around him.


    "MANA  ARROWS!", dozens of pinkblusih mana arrows shot towards the charging bandits, breaking bones, tearing flesh apart, even killing a few instantly.


    About twenty olive green shades started closing around the arcane mage, unleashing many energy strikes from their blade.


    He started retreating to dodge all the strikes and formed a shield around him,  "MANA SHIELD" while still shooting of mana arrows.


    The bandits were slowly able to push him back, but only with heavy casulties.


    There were only 5 of them left when the arcane mage stopped next to 2 dead horses in front of a carriage. He could faintly hear a baby cry, when he mustered all os his concentration infusing all the mana around him with primal mana,


    "MANA EXPLOSION!"


    The mana around him started exploding, suddenly some of the explosions connected with the mana of the other attacks surrounding the carriage, creating a huge devasting explosion as thedifferent elements, mana and energy connected.


    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM


    A blinding explosion occured, which could be seen from dozens of miles afar. Leaving nothing but a huge crater behind. Everything within a 100 metres was obliterated, nothing was left, not even the tiniest piece of armor, wood, flesh or bones.


    In the middle of the crater, slowly but surely, a tiny glowing sphere was fabricating itself.


    Suddenly everthing went black.

    He could not hear, see or smell anything. When finally a black window appeared in front of him.

    Slowly it absorbed the mana and energy surrounding it, while growing bit by bit.

    The sphere had finally reached the size of an adultsized human head, when it was finally able to move. It slowly vibrated and started to move inch by inch to an edge of the crater. Glowing faintly, transparent.
