《Chronicles of a dark lord》 Chronicles of a dark lord: chapter one Chronicles of a dark lord Chapter one ¡°And behold a dark lord and power was given to him to ride forth and take peace from the earth¡± From the book of death translated by Arch Magus Valon Doric I am dead¡. That was the first though that came to me as I opened my eyes, the experience was so fresh in my mind that I was surprised that there was no wound on my chest, no blood, no knife and no crazy woman crying as she stabs me over and over ¡°You shouldn¡¯t be here¡± a voice came from ¡. Every where I stood up and looked at my surroundings, I saw nothing but darkness, infinite darkness that looked as if it stretched for ever and I felt that if I took one step forward I would be lost in that darkness ¡. For ever ¡°Who is this, who are you¡± ¡°You may call me God¡± ¡°God ¡ so I am dead¡± ¡°No you have transcended death and life; those are things of mortal men¡± ¡°What do you mean?¡± ¡°Your soul came to this plane of existence after your mortal body has perished¡± ¡°Why¡± ¡°That is what I am asking you¡± ¡°I ¡. I didn¡¯t mean to ¡. I mean I did nothing¡± ¡°Yet you are here, in this place outside of place and time to spend eternity in the dark¡± I looked at the place around me; the ground beneath me moved as it was alive and the darkness threatened to swallow me, I don¡¯t want to know what lies inside of it ¡°Or I can let you out of her¡± the voice said I didn¡¯t know what to say, I sure as hell don¡¯t want to stay here but where would he ¡°let me out¡± to, I am dead after all ¡°And ¡ where would I go¡± ¡°The stream of life is beyond my reach; however I can send you to a different plane of existence¡± This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.¡°And how is this ¡ plane like¡± The voice laughed a bone shilling laughter ¡°you think I need your permission, you fear that I would send you to a worse place¡± ¡°Ah n¡. yes¡± the voice went quite for a while before it spoke again ¡°It¡¯s a place similar to the one you came from¡± ¡°Can ¡.. Can you send me to where I came from?¡± ¡°And why would I do such a thing, you are dead in the eyes of those who live their¡± ¡°But ¡.¡± ¡°Enough, I will give you a second chance to live a measly existence but I want something in return that is my offer¡± ¡°And what would that be¡± ¡°You will become my prophet and you will bring the inhabitants of this plane to worship me instead of other gods¡± I didn¡¯t know what to say a new life ¡.. Another world ¡.. A prophet ¡°I will not offer this again, say no and you shall stay here forever¡± ¡°I¡¯ll do it¡ I¡¯ll be your prophet¡± A surge of back aching plain struck me the second I spoke but it ended in a moment ¡°Wha¡¡± ¡°You are bound to me now; I can¡¯t have my prophet be weak as normal humans¡± I felt the surge of a new strength within me as I stood up, a hot flame burning in my core ¡°Go forth my Shadar and do not fail me¡± I was in a warm place; I couldn¡¯t open my eyes or move my limps something was stopping me from doing so I felt something grab my head and I was out of that place, I felt air on my skin and then the texture if linins around my body, I managed to open my eyes at that moment and was faced by the face of a woman, she was crying ¡ and smiling at the same time and that is when i realized it, I was Reborn! chapter two Chapter two I saw many faces since the day I was born, an odd thingto remember when you were born, few of the faces I managed to remember and recognize, first there was my mother a young lady maybe in her early twenties, she seemed to be beside me most of the time, I think I sleep a lot, I thought about crying like children do but I though it a hassle beside mom was there to breastfeed me every time I woke, and it seems I felt asleep immediately after she fed me, my mom was a beautiful woman, her face was oval and her cheek bones were high, her skin was milky and flawless her hair was fiery red and it ran in thick locks behind her, her eyes were grey and she always smiled at me, I felt joy at her smile she would sing to me sometimes but I didn¡¯t recognize the language, I also met my father and came to recognize him, a handsome young man probably the same age as mom, his hair silvery and smooth as silk, it ran down his back like a river, his eyes were like nothing I saw before deep violet eyes that always stole my mother gaze from me towards them, his face was smooth and clean shaved and he always had that cheeky smile that made me want to punch him, I knew the type from my past life a ladies¡¯ man! Dad you already fallen in my eyes. As the days passed I came to recognize a third person in my life, I knew she wasn¡¯t a relative she didn¡¯t look like my parents, in fact she didn¡¯t even look human, her eyes were entirely blue with no pupils and her skin was Grey, soon I realized that she is a nanny and was hired to help take care of me, she didn¡¯t look that much older than my parents and unlike my mother she didn¡¯t smile and always gave me that flat look even when she was wiping my bum. After the first few weeks my mother was taking me with her around the house and I got a glimpse of the outside world through the moments when we passed beside a window, it seem we lived in an open area for I didn¡¯t see any nearby houses, maybe we lived in the outskirts of a village or in the wilderness, I sure as hell couldn¡¯t find out by myself, I was beginning to recognize some of the words said not much but enough to know that most of what dad said implies something I shouldn¡¯t know about for years *** I think I lost the sense of time thanks to my sleeping habits and the fact I didn¡¯t leave my room a lot, but it couldn¡¯t be more than five months since I was born I didn¡¯t forget the words given to me by god, he has given me a second life and I intend to live it fully, by now I am able to understand the language my parents spoke to me, I was named Caladin my mother is called liana, my father is Rand and my beloved nanny is Hera, until now I haven¡¯t spoken back to my parents but I was getting really bored and figured I was old enough to speak so when mom spoke I spoke back. She said ¡°you have your father¡¯s eyes¡± ¡°I love mommy¡± I said back to her ¡°ehhhh¡. Say that again¡± ¡°I love mommy¡± I think I bit the ends of the words but I was still intangible ¡°Rand honey come quick ¡. Caladin has spoke¡± I heard footsteps from outside before my father appeared ¡°ohhhh ¡.. What did you say he spoke?¡± ¡°Yes¡. Look honey¡± Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit. They paused for a moment and stared at me ¡°I love mommy¡± ¡°oohhhhhhh¡± ¡°Did you hear that¡± he loves me, mom was getting a bit teary ¡°What about dad, say you love papa¡± I looked at mom ¡°I love mama¡± ¡°But papa is here too ¡.¡± ¡°Love ¡. Mommy¡± My dad picked me up ¡°Say papa¡± ¡°Mama¡± I was having a stare down with my dad ¡°Papa¡± ¡°mama¡± ¡°Oh I see he¡¯s as stubborn as his old man¡± ¡°What nonsense I am not stubborn¡± ¡°Papa ¡. Stubborn¡± ¡°Oh what did you say¡± my mom asked ¡°Oh your already disrespecting your old man you little rascal¡± ¡°Rascal¡± ¡°Rand! Look what you taught him to say¡± ¡°Ah ¡ he ¡ I¡± ¡°Give him to me¡± my mom took me from dad ¡°It¡¯s ok papa isn¡¯t a bad person you love papa too¡± ¡°Papa ¡. Bad¡± I was enjoying the look on my dad¡¯s face when mom spoke ¡°Hera, take Caladin for a moment¡± Hera came and took me from mom ¡°Love ¡. Hera¡± ¡°¡¡¡± Hera just gave me the usual flat look ¡°Wha ¡ Even her¡± ¡°Hera take rand to his room, it¡¯s alright honey I am sure he¡¯ll come around¡± After that little incident I started speaking more and more with my family and I started to crawl around the house on my own, I couldn¡¯t look out of the windows by myself but Hera usually followed me or carried me around, I am ashamed to say that I enjoyed being carried by Hera ¡.. A lot Hera took me outside more and more, there was a garden in front of our home that mom grew and took care of, she was watering the flowers right now and dad was swinging his sword to the side It seemed my dad is a warrior of sort, he was quick really quick and his blade was a blur to me My dad seemed to notice the way I was looking for he screamed Ohhhhhh and went even faster ¡°Papa ¡ strong¡± ¡°Yes papa is strong, but mom is even stronger¡± mom said in a low voice from behind the fence ¡°Mama ¡. Strong¡± I said as I turned my head and looked from her to dad ¡°Oh you don¡¯t believe me¡± she said stepping out of the garden ¡°Honey lets duel¡± ¡°Duel I rather eat fal¡. Ah yes I would love some help with my training¡± one look from mom made my dad freeze and change what he wants to say The two of them moved to a clear area while Hera and I stood near the front door Both my parents had a serious look as they bowed to each other, immediately after that dad rushed forward faster than I ever saw him do and then ¡. He was gone, I searched for him for a moment before I recognized his figure sprawled on the ground quite the distance away My mom was jumping happily ¡°did you see that honey mom is strong right¡± ¡°Mom ¡. Scawy¡± The smile on m mom¡¯s face was lost immediately ¡°Madam, perhaps it wasn¡¯t a good idea to show a child at his age violence¡± Mommy gasped and ran to me ¡°Mommy is sorry¡± she said as she hugged me and took me inside, we were in the living room when dad came in all disheveled and slumped shoulders ¡°Mommy ¡. Hit dad¡± ¡°No honey it was just a small wind blade nothing dangerous¡± ¡°Wind blade ¡.¡± ¡°a low rank spell¡± A spell! That can only mean one thing, Magic! chapter three Chapter three Magic the art of wizardry, since the moment I heard mom utter those words I was determined to learn more about it, I knew that mom had a private library I saw glimpses of it while the door was open but I wasn¡¯t allowed there, I tried to sneak in their several times but Hera kept finding me and bringing me back to my crib, I knew that mom spent time in their every afternoon, so the next time she went in there I followed her ¡°Mama¡± ¡°Oh honey did you follow me, do you want to play I can call Hera¡± I shook my head ¡°With ¡. Mama¡± ¡°Oh mommy needs to catch up on her work¡± ¡°Me ¡.. Quite¡. Promise¡± Mom shrugged before picking me up and placing me on her lap, a large tome was open before her, but I couldn¡¯t recognize any of the characters I sat there for a while trying to memories the characters as she flipped through the pages, I needed a reference point If I am to learn this writing system ¡°Mom¡± ¡°Yes dear¡± ¡°What are those?¡± ¡°These are written words¡± ¡°¡¡¡± ¡°Here, ill read some for you¡± ¡°Kessa tos daol arli?agon arl¨© Tol ja alvichi tol dohairis¡± Now I was really confused this wasn¡¯t the language my parents spoke to me, does magic have it own language, is this even magic or another language of this world I looked at her again ¡°Don¡¯t ¡. Understand¡± ¡°This is High-Elysian it¡¯s the language of my home¡± ¡°Where ¡. Mama home¡± ¡°It¡¯s a beautiful country called the magedom of Elysar, it¡¯s far from here, beyond the mountains of mist¡± she said closing the book I looked at the book and tried to say the words she just said ¡°Kessa to daal¡± ¡°Kessa tos daol¡± she corrected me ¡°maybe ¡. No what am I thinking you¡¯re too young for that¡± she paused for a moment ¡°It¡¯s getting late let¡¯s take you to bed¡± she said touching my nose before she took me to my room. *** I am thinking of sneaking into mom¡¯s study, did she lock the door ¡. I can¡¯t remember, I crawled out of my crib and tried to crawl silently, I knew my parents were asleep because mom sang me a song before she left I almost fell asleep back then, I passed their room and started climbing the stairs to the first floor, Hera¡¯s door was slightly ajar and there was a light coming from inside, she must be awake, down stairs I made my way to moms study, I couldn¡¯t reach most of the books but there was a few that I could reach, I pulled some of them down and tried to make something out of them, I recognized some of the characters and from the book mom read to me but I couldn¡¯t understand what they say¡. I kept sneaking into mom¡¯s room and trying to make her spill out more of this high-Elysian language, but she started locking the door when she was inside, a brake through was made when I was in the garden, I was using a stick to re-write some of the characters in the books I saw. ¡°Not like this ¡. Curve the end upwards¡± I looked behind me and was startled by Hera looking over my shoulder, I looked at her for a moment startled when she took my hand and corrected my writing ¡°Hera Knows this¡± ¡°Yes¡± she said flatly ¡°What does this one mean¡± I asked pointing at one of the characters ¡°Jovalta ¡. It means you¡± ¡°And this¡± I said pointing at another one ¡°Lovantis¡. It means friend¡± It seems I found a tutor ¡°What about this¡± ¡±it means ¡.¡± After that I made sure to drag Hera outside everyday and make her teach me, the fruits of my work showed immediately but it took me more than a week to start to make sense of the books my mom had, There were books like ¡°sea food recipes¡± and ¡°the good wife¡± and ¡°understanding men¡± There were also more serious books like ¡°essays on the Roanan high society¡± and ¡°a history of the Alarian kingdoms¡± Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions. But I was attracted to a single book ¡°an introduction to the arcane arts¡± this sounded a lot like a spell book and for beginners at that. But it was on one of the top shelves and I couldn¡¯t reach it even with a chair, so I improvised I took some of the books and stacked them on a chair, I managed to reach it with tip of my fingers and pull it out, I managed to pull it out but at the same time I lost my balance and fell on my behind, I made a ruckuses hopefully no one is up or they would¡¯ve heard it. I looked at the mess I made and located my prize, not the largest of books but that is to be expected. I opened the first page and started to read ¡°The study of magic is one of danger peril but also one of great rewards, thus the mage must be cautions and determined in his study of the Arcanium ¡..¡± I skipped through that and flipped through the pages ¡°Basic spells and incantations¡± now we¡¯re talking, I paused on this page and started reading ¡°Water bubble spell: Tal goz azai noh vah marat¡± so this is a spell, I read it in my mind but nothing happened, in my previous world spells are usually said aloud so I tried that ¡°Tal goz azai noh vah marat¡± I felt something stir in my chest and suddenly water bubbles were forming in my hands ¡°So you do have to say the spell out loud¡± I thought to myself but as soon as that though passed the bubbles were gone Did I do something wrong I thought to myself before looking back at the book ¡°Water bubbles: one of the weakest water spells and cause minimal damage but if directed correctly it can distract and scare beasts¡± There wasn¡¯t any instructions on how to release the spell, I decided to memorize some of the phrases and leg it before I get discovered here, I placed the books back in the shelves and went back to my room, while I was doing so I found some of my mom¡¯s notes. It seems to be more spells, but I couldn¡¯t stay here long so read one of them and hoped that I¡¯ll remember it. The next day when I walked into the kitchen mom was asking Hera if she rearranged her books, I turned around immediately and decided to watch dad¡¯s morning practice As I watched dad fell into trance swinging his sword I fell into deep though, something went wrong when I cast that spell, the bubble should fly forward and blow up in front of a target, but it blew up in my hand, I also want to try the other spells but they could be dangerous and I might not want to try them at home. I sneaked past the kitchen and to the back yard, mom and Hera were busy cooking while dad was practicing, so I was sure that I am safe for now, I remembered the phrases of the first spell ¡°golai Hork¡± which means fire ball, I whispered the words and again felt something stir in my chest and a small fire ball appeared in my hand ¡°ohhhhhh ¡..¡± But it vanished immediately, same thing happened with the spark spell and the wind blade, I must be doing something wrong, but what and then I remembered the notes that I found at the end, I had time only to remember one spell, what was it ah yes ¡°Valar ¨¡braz?¡± It meant something in the lines of black fire or dark energy, when I said the words a black flame formed between my hands, this time it didn¡¯t vanish and I felt a connection and knew if I push my hands forward I will release the spell, so I went for it, the black flame shot forward and smashed into the ground, turning it black and melting it This is bad, someone could see this, I turned around to get inside before anyone could see me and I froze Mom was at the door, she looked shocked and terrified but that soon turned into anger as she walked towards me and used a water spell to extinguish the flame ¡°you, what did you do ¡± Chapter four Liana My son, I just saw my son cast a spell, one that I never saw before but it was definitely magic, I felt the mana I am sure he casted a spell, I quickly used a water cannon spell to extinguish the flame he made, dark flames that left black spots on the ground where it burned, I will need to cleanse the ground before anyone comes near it but first ¡°You, what did you do¡± ¡°I¡ ah ¡. Mama¡± I ignored his weak attempts to seduce me ¡°This is magic, where did you learn it? Wait you¡¯re the one who¡¯s been sneaking into my room¡± ¡°Ah¡. yes¡± well then ¡..At least he¡¯s honest ¡°How, don¡¯t tell me you learned to read by yourself¡± He shook his head deny it ¡°Then who¡± ¡°It seems that is my fault madam I saw him write on the ground and taught him their meaning¡± Hera said from behind, I looked at her again so she knows High-Elysian ¡°I will accept any punishment you bestow upon me¡± ¡°No ¡ Hera did nothing¡± my son protested, so you¡¯re defending her eh ¡°Well, I can¡¯t fault you for teaching my son after all he¡¯s the one who sneaked into my library and read those books¡± I looked at my son again, his violet eyes were teary and hey almost made me cave in and forgive ¡.. Almost ¡°Now that I think about it I never saw that spell before where did you learn it¡± My son looked at me perplexed, so I started tapping my foot waiting for his answer ¡°Ah I don¡¯t understand ¡. I read it on a piece of paper¡± ¡°a piece of paper¡.¡± ¡°Ah yes ¡ it was on your desk¡± Wait, it can¡¯t be I ran back to the study and found the notes ¡°Honey, what¡¯s wrong¡± my husband said to me as I ran back outside but I ignored him and he followed behind with his sword ready ¡°Is this the piece of paper you read it from?¡± He nodded ¡°What¡¯s wrong, what happened here?¡± ¡°Little Caladin used magic and the madam is angry¡± I heard Hera say from behind ¡°ohhh, my son knows magic I knew you¡¯ll be great like your old man¡± My husband picked his son and held him high ¡°Rand put him down¡± I said giving my husband a sharp look and he did so immediately ¡°Sorry kid you¡¯re on your own¡± ¡°No you don¡¯t understand, the spell he used came from this piece of paper, it was send to me from my master at the academy for study an old spell found in a ruin¡± I looked at my husband ¡°Black magic¡± I heard Hera gasp behind and saw my husband¡¯s eyes widen in shock, and my poor little child stood their ignorant to what he just did. I stopped the light stopped immediately but it took a moment for the light to retract and I saw my teacher again Her eyes were red, but she didn¡¯t flinch and looked straight at me ¡°Ah ¡. I am sorry¡± ¡°It¡¯s alright o harm is done ¡. Let it be a lesson on the importance of control ¡. We are done for today¡± she said as she stood up and headed back towards our home. *** Dibila Something happened today, this child released a frightening amount of Mana ¡ If he didn¡¯t stop I might¡¯ve attacked him, that could¡¯ve been a disaster, his mother wrote that he shows talent in light magic in the job request but this ¡. I think I should quit, this child clearly has an abnormal amount of Mana and almost no control of it what so ever, I used a healing spell on my eyes ¡. What if I went blind the next time he did something like this, only an arch-priest could heal me if such a thing happens? But the thought of returning to the temple dreads me, I prayed for a way out and now that it offered itself I want to run back and hide in that place. For now I will stay, but I will be cautious with this one, later that night I sat with the family for dinner, the maid the Draconian placed the meal on the table, a draconian maid how could they trust her?¡ I must be cautious around her too. ¡°So how did the first lesson go?¡± The wife asked, the question wasn¡¯t directed at me but at the boy ¡°I learned about the importance of control ¡ ¡°he said ¡°And I was able to make light come out of my hands¡± the mother nodded approvingly ¡°White mage¡. I am still not certain about this¡° ¡°Honey ¡ do I need to remind you how expensive a healer can be¡± ¡°too bloo¡ ah I mean ¡ yes you are correct still he should learn the sword a mage¡¯s only weakness is his inability to fight in close quarters¡± Sword training ¡. What nonsense a priest of the light should dedicate his power to the church and not gain wealth, these two must be adventurers, former adventurers at least now that I think about it it¡¯s probably the only way a Roanan highborn which the husband Violet eye¡¯s scream to anyone and a woman from Pendar or is it Elysia could¡¯ve met. I am ashamed that I feel jealous of these two, i can¡¯t be much older than me and they already have started a family and have a son, what adventurers did they went through what tales do they carry. Chapter six two months have passed since my tutor came to live with us, I haven¡¯t been taught spells as of yet but I made a great leap in my Mana control ¡ or so my teacher says, on the other hand my daily training with dad has progressed smoother and he has been making me duel him sometimes, I learned a great deal about foot work and the techniques of martial combat, my father follows the Roanan school which focuses on attack ¡. It¡¯s not a mere hack and slash style where you stab at the enemy until he dies, you must see the fight unfolds before it begins see a move before it comes, my father has been surprised when I anticipated his moves ¡. Sadly he was too fast for it to mean anything, but I found it simple I saw dad move his right foot forward and knew it¡¯s a Feint and he will attack to the left, I guess I was a natural at this. Today my dad agreed to take me in his daily patrol of the village, dad was the local magistrate and was in charge of defending this place from dangers, the village as it turns out was made out of homes that were spaced out from one another, to put things in perspective the closest neighbor we had lived half a kilometer down the road, we made our way south where the homes seemed to be clustered closer to one another. Many of the villagers came and greeted dad, some of them had complaints, about neighbors the animals in the Forrest strangers passing by the village. Many had a thing or two to say about me ¡°So this is your boy¡± ¡°Bring him to the spring dance my lord¡± ¡°Oh what a handsome child¡± ¡°He has his father¡¯s looks¡± If I was a normal child I would¡¯ve been embarrassed a bit¡ especially when the women talked to me, I saw few children in my age ¡. My physical age at least, I lived thirty years more than them; on that regard I am older than my parents. After a while we reached an area with several houses clustered together, I heard the ringing of a hammer, my dad stopped before one building and we both stepped down from the horse. ¡°Don¡¯t tell your mom I brought you here¡± I looked at the building and noticed the sign above the door; it depicted a man with a bug mug in his hand. This is a bar I thought to myself, I looked at my father and gave him the biggest grin I could make ¡°no one will knew about this I promise¡± ¡°Good¡± my dad said as he opened the door ¡°Oh its Rand, did you finish your daily patrol¡± I large man with big mustaches greeted us, he had a jolly face and had the look of a fun uncle type ¡°I did, it seems that boar has been seen near the Bramston farm I am thinking of hunting it down soon¡± ¡°I¡¯ll talk to the lads see if I can get a few volunteers, so the usual¡± The author''s tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.¡°Yes and some silverberry juice for this one¡± ¡°And who is this¡± ¡°I am Caladin¡± ¡°Of course you are, last time I saw you ¡. Well you were asleep¡± There was a tasty aroma in the air that got the three of us drooling ¡°I see Mrs. Gunter is cooking her famous muffins¡± ¡°Oh, yes I am sure little Caladin will want some of that, Jane dear send us some of that muffin of yours Rand is here with his boy¡± I heard ruckuses inside and then a big woman came carrying a tray that spread a tasty aroma in the air ¡°Your Caladin eh, let me have a look at you¡± the big lady came near me and held my gaze for a moment ¡°He looks like a cuter version of his old man¡± Both men choked on that, and had an odd look at their faces ¡°Oh ignore them dear, this is my daughter Mara she¡¯s your age so maybe you can be friends¡± I looked where she pointed and noticed the girl clinging to her mom¡¯s apron, how didn¡¯t I see her before? ¡°hi I am Caladin¡± I said coming closer and offering her a hand shake, she just clung to her mom even more, not good children shouldn¡¯t be shielded too much or they will definitely develop problems in the future ¡°It¡¯s alright honey Cal here is a friend¡±, the girl clearly wasn¡¯t comfortable around strangers so I backed off and sat back on my chair, I was soon presented with the delicious treat that I been waiting for, but I couldn¡¯t help but keep thinking about that girl, someone should get her out of her shell or she might suffer. We left soon and dad spoke with few men about the hunt for the boar before we headed home, Hera was preparing lunch and Dibila was meditating in the garden, mom was probably in her study like she usually did this time during the day. ¡°Cal dear could you come here for a moment¡± I heard mom call for me ¡°Remember your promise¡± my dad whispered to me and I gave him a mischievous smile ¡°You wouldn¡¯t dare¡± ¡°Wouldn¡¯t dare do what¡± I kept a straight face towards dad ¡°If you tell her I will never take you there again¡± I paused for a moment, there was some merit to what he says ¡°Ah, but the same could be said for you, does mom knows you drink during the day¡± ¡°your blackmailing your old man, I knew I should¡¯ve kept you at home what do you want say it quickly¡± ¡°Next time I want a real drink¡± ¡°what absolutely not ¡. You¡¯re too young¡± ¡°Mom dad to¡¡± My dad placed his hand over my mouth ¡°alright you win next time you get a real drink¡± I nodded my head before walking triumphantly to my mom¡¯s study ¡°I created a monster¡± I heard a voice say behind chapter seven ¡°Oh Cal sit¡± I sat on a chair and waited for mom to finish writing, she placed her pen down and looked at me ¡°So how was the trip to the village today?¡± ¡°Oh it was great ¡. I met lots of people today¡± ¡°I am sure you did¡± Mom sat there for a while listening to what I had to say ¡°So, is there something else you want to tell me?¡± ¡°Am I that easy to read?¡± ¡°No, but your clearly anxious about something¡± my mother sighed before she have me a letter, she didn¡¯t say anything so I read the letter To Rand Gareth Reed It has reached my ears that your wife has brought you a son, I wish to see this child bring him to see me at castle Reed, you may have shown your back to this family but this child still carries the name of house Reed, bring him to meet me at once, I await your arrival at castle Reed in less than a month from the date on this letter do not deny me this. Countess Christine Reed countess of Midland and Sabina ¡°This countess ¡. She is family?¡± ¡°Yes she is your grandmother¡± ¡°You don¡¯t want her to see me¡± ¡°ah ¡ you see your father had troubles with his family that is why he left; his family was against our marriage too ¡. So you see why I am worried¡± ¡°But ¡. Can we afford to anger her anymore?¡± ¡°If it comes to it we can leave this country, I don¡¯t want her to take you away from me¡± ¡°is there a need for that surly if I go she will let me come back after a visit¡± ¡°You want to go¡± ¡°Well she is my grandmother and I like this home¡± ¡°But what if she forces you to stay with her¡± my mom¡¯s eyes were starting to get teary I stood up and went around the desk and hugged her ¡°nothing can keep me away from you and dad¡± My mom hugged me back ¡°I should be the one giving the assurances¡± she said before laughing for a bit, it was a forced laugh one that showed how worried she was. ¡°Beside I can always use magic to rum¡± ¡°Oh no if anyone is using magic it¡¯s me, I won¡¯t let you go without me¡± ¡°but wasn¡¯t she against your marriage with dad, wont it be sufficient if dad and I went alone¡± she hesitated for a bit before she spoke again ¡°No, I knew I had to face that woman one day, so I¡¯ll face her standing next to me¡± We broke our hug and mom seemed in a better mood ¡°you should go to your teacher; she will be waiting for you now¡± *** ¡°oh your late, come sit and let us continue, last time we were working on shaping Mana, we¡¯ve done excellent progress in that but I think we should ¡. ¡° ¡°Miss Dibila¡± ¡°Ah ¡. Is there something wrong?¡± ¡°You see I¡¯ll be leaving soon to meet someone bothersome so I was hoping you could teach me something more useful¡± I explained the situation to my teacher who sat their quietly ¡°I see I heard about the iron countess before but I didn¡¯t know she¡¯s your grandma¡± ¡°the iron countess?¡± ¡°Oh its said she rule with an iron fist, I see why your mother is worried¡± ¡°very well, I guess I can teach you some defensive spells but you must be careful of the Mana you use in every spell¡± ¡°I am ready, I am sure of it¡± ¡°Alright let¡¯s start with Reflect, it¡¯s a defensive spell that forms a field around ¡. ¡° And so I started learning real spells ¡ only five days before the day of our departure to meet grandma, hopefully I¡¯ll be ready for the worst. The day of the journey has arrived, I have learned several cool spells and I knew that my teacher was holding a lot back ¡°this should be enough to impress her¡± she said to me Dad had prepared a carriage and hired a coachman to drive as there, it was a five day journey, dad wanted to come with us but mom insisted he stays because of the constant beasts showing up near the village, dad reluctantly agreed to stay behind so it was just mom and me, we planned to stay at an inn every night and arrive at the castle at the sixth day. Some of the women from the village came to speak with mother before she left, I got my cheeks pulled more than once, after that it was just family, dad hugged mom and whispered something to her then he gave me a hug ¡°a big mug of bear is waiting for you when you come back, until then take care of mom¡± dad had a serious look so I didn¡¯t make any jokes If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.Hera came after ¡°Take care madam, young master¡± ¡°Thank you Hera, make sure my husband doesn¡¯t drink too much while I am away¡± I went to Hera and hugged her feet ¡°goodbye Hera¡± ¡°Nnn¡ take care young mater¡° ¡°Don¡¯t forget to train every day¡± my teacher said to me and I nodded to her I would be lying if I said I wasn¡¯t excited ¡. I watched from the window as the house and then the village fell over the horizon, nothing but the road and the empty fields, mom was reading one of her books so I decided not to bother her and get to training, I channeled the Mana forth, which came easily to me now, I held it for a moment then stated shaping it and reshaping it, several spells could be done like this ¡. Basic spells, anything more will need a spell to give a precise Mana release and control but in theory it is possible to cast a spell without an enchantment but it is dangerous a single mess calculation a single slip in Mana release and the spell could easily backfire. When I opened my eyes again the sun was almost gone from the sky, I guess I time flew by and I didn¡¯t sense it, though I felt a pain in my bum from sitting all day ¡°It¡¯s getting late but thankfully we¡¯re near our first stop¡± my mom said and I noticed that she was staring at me I poked my head out of the window and looked ahead, our first stop appeared ahead a small village called Devon-Ride if I remember correctly, a village but it was much bigger than Zama and this one had a wooden fence around it and guard towers poked from behind it. I looked at mom who must¡¯ve seen the curious looks I had ¡°Devon-Ride is closer to the great forest and beasts sometimes show up here in packs¡± We passed the gate after the guards inspected the inside of the carriage, ¡°Here we are, the coachman said¡± looking out of the window I saw a large building, three stories high ¡. This is high compared to the rest of this place; I also noted the sign swinging above the door ¡°the wayfarer¡± Good name I thought to myself as we made our way into the common room of the inn, lots of eyes turned towards us for a moment before going back to their business, there was a big crowd watching a lady sing and the place was almost full of men. Mother stopped one of the serving girls ¡°I¡¯d like a private dining room¡± ¡°Just a second madam¡± she said before scurrying off, seconds later another girl came by ¡°Please follow me¡± she said as she led us to the back of the building and into a good size room, there was a large table at the center ¡°What do you have for dinner¡± mom asked as we took our seats ¡°Only mutton stew I am afraid, the place is crowded today¡± ¡°That will have to do then¡± the serving girl left shortly ¡°Do you remember our lessons the last few days?¡± I nodded to her ¡°Repeat them to me¡± ¡°from this point onward we will be in Midland territory, Grandma¡¯s territory¡± ¡°And what define this territory?¡± ¡°Beside its location near the Grey Mountains and the great forest, lots of trade comes through here towards and from the capital¡± ¡°And who are the lords of this land¡± ¡°house Reed¡± ¡°And what is the sigil of house Reed¡± ¡°A Red dragon on black¡± ¡°Good ¡ your Grandma will expect some knowledge on the house but nothing extensive¡± ¡°are they real ¡? I mean the Dragon¡¯s¡± I was curious, I knew about magical beasts and saw many of them in one of mom¡¯s books but the Legendary beast was never mentioned until I saw the sigil of house Reed. ¡°Well ¡. Most people consider them myth at least in this part of the world, but where I come from in the magedom, dragons are bread by the Magus council for war and as a source of magic power¡± Our food arrived at that moment and both of us were happy to stop talking and fill our bellies ¡°you were about to say that the dragons are used as a source of magic¡± ¡°yes, the heart of a dragon is said to be able to power an entire city for a decade¡± ¡°Power a city ¡. How advance are these magi of the Magedom¡± ¡°Maybe one day ill see your home land¡± I said to mom ¡°Pray that you don¡¯t, that place has nothing but suffering¡± ***
