《Athanatos》 Prologue: The Void Part 1 Once upon a time. There live a human boy. Blessed from birth with an extraordinary soul. Blessed with knowledge of the world. Blessed with caring and love. But those blessings also bring jealously. Jealously from mortals and immortals alike. So those with envy in their heart planned to kill him. Some of them said to kill him before he matures, it was rejected as his soul was protected at young age. Others said to kill him after he grow old and weak, it was rejected as he will be too strong before they could kill him. They fought for their own decision, but eventually agree to one plan. ¡°Kill the boy just after his teen ages, then just curse him with suffering.¡± So they begin their plan, at the night of blood-red moon. They start to gave him curse after curse. Most of them were countered by the protection of the gods, as the boy were doted by them. After the long indirect fight the boy¡¯s soul start to weaken , so the soul escaped. bringing three curse and three gifts. And one friend. The soul journeyed many place and world with his friend, learning many things. Until they arrived on a world, filled with good and bad. The boy and his friend chose this world as their place to reincarnate. And became something, known as Athanatos. Part 2 ¡°Good afternoon ladies and gentleman, today we have a special guest. As you know, Vision.Inc is the company behind the newest technology breakthrough, the VR Capsule ¡®Ark¡¯. So we would like to invite the person behind all of this. Please welcome, Vision.Inc lead researcher and the creator of ¡¯Ark¡¯, Mr. Jonathan Glove!¡± ¡°Thank you Mr. Bannet, it¡¯s my pleasure.¡± ¡°Okay, I¡¯m sure everyone here would like to hear about this new VR Capsule, the info I receive is that this one will be a revolution of VR, how is it different to past VR devices?¡± A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.¡°The new VR capsule is different from the core. Arc 1 Chapter 1: Reborn Twice? ¡°Boring.¡± A young man murmurs. He picked up a fist-sized rock and it floated on his palm. Then he threw it to the sky . ¡°Even after reincarnated, I can¡¯t go to any settlement because of this stupid curse.¡± He said while scratching his grey messy hair. This peculiar looking young man who currently contract a powerful disease called boredom is Sylver Arachnid Ruse. A 17 years-old currently living in a house located at Himalayas. Don¡¯t be mistaken. He is not thrown away or abandoned. He simply can¡¯t go to any human settlement. It¡¯s not because of his looks or any other mundane reason. But because of his curse. To explain it would take an eternity. Short story he is a refugee soul from another world who is reborn to earth. But because of his unique soul he can¡¯t become a human. Then after many meeting and ritual with various gods and blahblahblah. It was decided that he will be reborn as a new race, named Athanatos. You may be asking why does he must spend his day isolated. Because an Athanatos have it merits and flaw. One of the flaw is any regular human near him will be scared to death, which is not healthy. So one of the gods said ¡°How about we provide anything you want as long you stay away from human settlement and help us a bit?¡± and Sylver agreed. The jobs is simply to act as a guardian of Himalayas region so is not a hard job for him. But he quickly get bored even after reading 10.234 books and watched 2.908 movies while also learning martial arts. The only thing preventing from destroying earth is.. ¡°Sylverrrr! It came! It came!¡± A girl with pink long hair shouted cheerily. ¡°Really?! Don¡¯t open it! Wait for me!¡± Sylver replied. The pink haired beauty is Anna Rosemary Ruse. Sylver housemate and childhood friend. Although they have same family name they aren¡¯t blood related. Why he can lived with Sylver is because she has the same circumstance. Sylver quickly ran into their house. When he arrived at the living room he saw two capsule about the size of a single bed. The capsules looks like a black egg with buttons and screen. On the top of the capsule is a ¡®Vision.Inc¡¯ label. ¡°¡±Yes! Finally! Our days of boredom is oveeeer!¡±¡± They cheered. ¡°By the way. There¡¯s a letter for you that came with the capsules.¡± Anna hands out a white envelope with a golden cloud mark on it. ¡®Don¡¯t tell me It¡¯s from her,¡¯ Sylver open the envelope and read the letter inside ¡°Yep. It¡¯s another job.¡± ¡°Will it take time?¡± ¡°Don¡¯t worry. The job involve playing ¡®Progress¡¯. That damned angel really like to threw her work at me.¡± Sylver sigh while thinking about work he must do to pay for the capsules. He remembers one of his ¡®jobs¡¯ is to eliminate a whole army of terrorist while blindfolded and cuffed. Compared to that this one is a piece of cake. The duo start to connect the capsules and setting up the rest. While chatted about what class will they take and what race they want to play as. ¡°Connect the capsule and¡­.. complete.¡± Sylver said. ¡°Let¡¯s have lunch first and then it¡¯s online for the rest of the day!¡± After the lunch they went to the white room but only stood on the entrance. Although normal people only saw ¡®Progress¡¯ as a game. This duo sees it as a way to escape their world. World with only boredom and loneliness. ¡°This is it.¡± This story has been stolen from Royal Road. The only contact they have with outside world is Sylver employer angel, which only came once or twice in a year. Silence filled the pure white room. The duo hold hands while pressing their ¡®Ark¡¯s open button. The black egg machinery split open revealing a chair with a helmet strapped on it. From the capsule futuristic machinery sound could be heard. The duo sat in their own capsules and wore the helmet. They looked at each other before shouted. ¡°Connect!¡± Their sense started to dull as brain signals blocked one by one. Then the surrounding became dark. ¡®Awesome¡¯ Sylver Amazed. Suddenly a bright blue box appeared in front of him.

The anomaly caused by it made a change in the game!¡± ¡°Could it be hacking?¡± ¡°Chances are slim. I¡¯m hoping you would fill the comment with critics as it very appreciated. Arc 1 Chapter 2 : The one became four ¡°My head hurts.¡± Sylver woke up in a small white room. Still feeling dizzy he looked around, trying to remember how he ended up here. But he barely remembers anything after fainting. ¡®What is this warm sensation¡¯ he looked at his surroundings. And found two sleeping girl on his sides. The person on the right side is someone Sylver knew for years. It¡¯s his childhood friend with pink long hair and cute face. For some reason she currently using Sylver right arm as pillow. On his left side is an unknown girl doing the same thing with his left arm. He observed the beauty . She has a braided blue hair and a cute mature look in her face, at least more mature than Anna. ¡®I better get up quickly¡¯ thought Sylver. Feeling that this could be troublesome to explain when they woke up. Sylver carefully released his arms and got up from the bed. ¡°Come on, don¡¯t you want to do it? Not everyday you end up in a bed with two extremely beautiful girl.¡± a little girl voice came from the only door in the white room. From there, a young girl enter. Sylver knew very well this young girl. She is Lyka, Sylver guardian angel, or at least that is her title. Most of her work is just delivering the gods request and sometimes check on them. She looks like a girl around 14 years-old with golden hair and golden eyes. ¡°Nah, more trouble than it worth. Putting aside the bad jokes, care to explain everything? Lyka snaps her finger while smiling, suddenly a table with four chair appeared out of thin air. She sit on one end and Sylver on the opposite. ¡°You still don¡¯t want to do it? Sylver who watched them could not help but think they are cute. While Lyka just smile gleefully at Sylver. ¡°Regretted it?¡± ¡°Not a chance.¡± ¡°You never saw me woke up did you?¡± ¡°Not interested.¡± ¡°What a shame. Anyway, welcome to ¡®Progress¡¯ Anna and Aqua. My name is Lyka, Sylver guardian angel and I¡¯m the one who brought you here.¡± ¡°Add ¡®short and pervert to that¡¯.¡± Sylver said. ¡°How mean, even though we always do those kind of thing to¡­¡± ¡°Anna, how about a trip to Russia?¡± Sylver asked Anna. ¡°Okay, okay I will stop.¡± Lyka shudders remembering Sylver aura. ¡°Anyway, let¡¯s continue. The next will be Anna.¡± ¡°Hi! My name is Anna Rosemary Ruse. By the way Lyka, what do you mean by those kind of thing?¡± Sylver facepalmed and sighed while the blue haired girl blushed and Lyka smile. ¡°So you want to know..¡± Lyka gave a devil smile. ¡°Let¡¯s continue with the introduction.¡± Sylver continued ¡°My name is Sylver Arachnid Ruse. She was just ¡®born¡¯ two years ago. We wanted to tell you but we just forget.¡± Lyka knew she will be in danger. ¡°Oooh, I see. So the angels who told me to go ¡®one man army¡¯ almost every month just forgot to tell a very important things.¡± Sylver glared are Lyka with his weird eyes. His eyes is very weird as it has two colours, black on the left one and grayish white on his right. ¡°Okay, okay. I¡¯m very sorry, huhuhu. I can¡¯t sleep tonight with those eyes glaring.¡± Lyka cried at spot. Even angel could not stand Sylver powerful intimidation. ¡°Boo!¡± said Anna. Lyka faints. ¡°Ah. Sorry~. Hehehe ¡± Anna giggled. While Anna tried to woke up Lyka. Sylver and Aqua had many conversation about Aqua''s life. She said that she lived in a small house in Alaska. She has the trait of an Athanatos which is weird soul and weird hair colors. Although the conversation is hard because of Aqua shy personality, with more time spent she started to became more friendlier, although only to Anna and Lyka. When Sylver tried to be friendly. Aqua hid behind Anna. Sylver sighed, as he just scared one more person in his life and happen to be the same race. ¡°Hey, because we already spent too much time here how about we get started?¡± Lyka who has just woke up asked. ¡°Wait! You still hasn¡¯t explain the mission.¡± Anna said. ¡°Oh yes, it¡¯s simple. For the first part is to go visit [Alaianaum] The forgotten city of Surast. It¡¯s quite far and we can¡¯t get out of starting cities for a week. So just focus on getting stronger!¡± Lyka smiled at Sylver while still shuddering. ¡°Wait, you keep saying ¡®us¡¯. Don¡¯t say the team of four is¡­..¡± ¡°Yes, it¡¯s us. You¡¯re quite slow are you?¡±Lyka gave a teasing smile. Suddenly nightmarish aura filled the room. Even though the room is in virtual reality space. The aura is very powerfull and the three girls started crying. ¡°NONONONONONONONO.¡± Aqua hid her head with her hands with a trauma expression. ¡°UWAHHHHH¡± Anna cried. ¡°God please help me!¡± The Angel desperately praying. The aura vanished instantly, only left an angry young man and three crying young girls. ¡°I¡¯m sorry, I was just joking.¡± Sylver has a guilty expression. ¡°¡±¡±That was not funny!¡±¡±¡± The crying trio rebukes. ¡°Lying to me is also not funny, so we even,¡± Sylver back to his usual smiling expression. ¡°Now how about we hop in to the game?¡± ¡®Don¡¯t be fooled. With a smile(still a little bit shuddering) Lyka snap her fingers. The room disappear and revealing a blue and green planet. ¡®Earth.¡¯ A holy and powerful voice spoke to them. ¡°Hail adventurers. To think the AI of the game could reply with that specific information. ¡°Yes.¡± Sylver answered. ¡°Now, adventurer. You has chosen to be reborn with your old soul. Souls are unique essence of every living things. It can affect a person physical and mental. I have personally observed your soul and I have found something interesting. You have a different soul, different from most adventurers yet I can see a semblance. Don¡¯t be afraid, you are not alone ¡®Athanatos¡¯.¡± Sylver is surprised. He didn¡¯t knew how but somehow the AI detect his race. Even knew the name and possibly it has detected Anna and Aqua too. ¡°You are a strange being, even among your kin. Blessed and cursed. Afraid not my friend, as I will helped you with your difficullity.¡± And again more surprised. The uncomfortable feeling inside Sylver began to question about his choice to playing this game. As his curiosity and suspicion arised he asked. ¡°How do you know?¡± ¡°Soul contained your identity, your memory, and your existence. Nothing can you hide once your soul is shown.¡± Sylver still quite curious but he decided that can be ask later or he can find the information in-game. ¡°Enough for now. You still has to choose your body. Would you like to describe it or use the support program?¡± Sylver still speechless from the AI response. But as he has enough weird things to think about he continued to the character customization. ¡°I will not change my looks.¡± ¡°Good answer my friend, now for your race¡­. I¡¯m afraid you can¡¯t choose it because of the nature of your soul. your soul and some others has caused a new being to be born.¡±

Sylver just stood. He happy to become a member of unique race but somehow feel betrayed. As the race has quite serious demerits which is the ¡®Fear Aura¡¯. ¡°About your race my friend. They have been changed a bit as this world is different from your world and the fact that you¡¯ve just been reborn. For your curse I have lessened it to an extend and your blessing is already good enough.¡± The surrounding changed. Now Sylver is floating above Asia. ¡°Before you choose your starting city, I have some question for you. Not everyday I want to spent time talking with an adventurer but you are different.¡± Suddenly many lights gathered and formed into a body, a girl body to be more accurate. The lights dispersed leaving a girl around 16 years-old smiled to him. The girl hair reaching her waist and deep blue eye color. She has a heavenly aura, more than Sylver feels from Lyka. He presumed that this girl must be one of the game world goddesses. ¡°Hello, my name is Kyrie. The goddess of the unknowns.¡± ¡°Ah, are you the one who has been talking with me this whole time?¡± ¡°No, It was Ouranos, the Greek¡¯s god of sky.¡± ¡°My friend Arachnid, this is one of the change your soul has brought upon. To gave live to another entity with you soul is outstanding. She is the goddess of the unknowns, an entity created because of your race, which is an embodiment of the unknown. She will travel with you to record your adventure.¡± Kyrie smiled again. She walked to Sylver and bowed down. Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Which has many potential and mystery aside from yourself.¡± Ouranos asked ¡°I want to explore.¡± Sylver calmly answered. ¡°Is that all?¡± ¡°Most of it.¡± ¡°If you said so. Next question, do you know other Athanatos?¡± ¡°Yes.¡± ¡°Do you have acquaintance with other being beside Athanatos?¡± ¡°Yes.¡± ¡°Last one. Do you think this world is a game?¡± ¡®How weird¡¯ Sylver thought. But he shrugged it off and answered. ¡°Yes.¡± ¡°I see, let me tell you something before you go. You are wrong.¡± The surrounding shines bright, in a moment the light dispersed. Revealing a grass field. The place is very empty except a few trees and rock scattered. The place is surrounded by tall mountains. Sylver gaze turn into his right, he saw Kyrie . ¡°I can¡¯t see anything! ouch!¡± Kyrie tripped and fell. Sylver ignored her for a while and open the menu with a flick of a finger.

Behind that mountain.¡± She pointed toward the tallest mountain ¡°But you can¡¯t leave, if you try a dragon will snatch you once you reached the top. Tall black building with neon lighting shaped like ancient symbol and inscribing, robotic horse pulling electric carts, and people wearing semi futuristic armor. And on the sky, the famous ¡®Skyriders¡¯ soared in the sky with their Cydragons. ¡°Now I see why this is so popular, even gods don¡¯t have place like this.¡± Lyka said with amazement. ¡°Ah! Lyka! Look, that¡¯s the Skyriders!¡± Anna couldn¡¯t hold her excitement. ¡°Beautiful..¡± Aqua murmured. They watched the Skyriders flying in formation. Some of them flew close to the ground, showing their shiny Cydragon¡¯s armor. The audience watching shouted cheers when they passed. After a series of tricks and stunts, all of the Skyriders flew together and their Cydragons roared in unison, shocking the entire audience, including Anna that quikcly jumped behind Lyka. ¡°I-I¡¯m s-sca-scared, but this is fun!¡± With the end of the show, people expected that the Skyriders will soon return to their duty, so many people started to pack their belongings and prepared to leave. But soon one of the Skyriders flew to the ground. This particular Skyrider could be easily recognized as the leader, with his white shiny armor and giant sword on his hand, his face is covered with a dragon looking helm. He rode the biggest Cydragon in the group, with two guns mounted on the wings and reinforced red metallic scales on the belly part. But the most noticeable features on the Cydragon is its horns, that shaped exactly like the Noire city emblem. ¡°Attention adventurers! Sorry for the sudden announcement. But I would like to inform to all adventurers on the Noire City that we, the ¡®Keeper of History¡¯, ¡®Ouroboros¡¯, and ¡®Gloria¡¯ will hold a festival in three more days .¡± Even before the announcement finished, many whispering could be heard between players. ¡°Festivals? By the top three guild of Noire City?¡± ¡°Hey, could this be a joke?¡± ¡°You idiot, the one announcing is the guild leader himself, The famous Skyrider Lan.¡± ¡°Let¡¯s inform our guild, this could be a chance to promote ourselves¡± ¡°What?! After all, it¡¯s the top three guild, that already on equal standing with Noire City Government. ¡°Details regarding some of the events cannot be said, but one of the main event will be a full training and tutorial for new players, guided by high rank member of the three guild. The tutorial will also include an open Tournament, Classes Guide, and lectures on the world of ¡®Progress¡¯. All player, especially the new ones, are encouraged to participated in the event. I, Landerson, the Guild Leader of the Keeper of History, wish you to come as well.¡± With the announcement over, Lan and the other Skyriders left the square. This announcement cause even more uproar than the last one. The reason is clear though. ¡®Progress¡¯ is a game without tutorial or any guide at all, with the reason being ¡®to add realism¡¯. This book''s true home is on another platform. Can you brought Sylver here Lyka? I want to play with Sylver too!¡± Anna begged Lyka. ¡°I¡¯m sorry, for this one I can¡¯t.¡± when Lyka said that, Anna started to cried. ¡°Waawaaa!!!, I want to play with Sylver!¡± cried Anna. Lyka sighed, while Aqua just confused looking at the crying ¡®child¡¯. Anna¡¯s crying became louder and louder. ¡°Anna , please keep quiet. Sylver will come.¡± ¡°R-really? P-promise?¡± Anna tried to hold back her tears. ¡°Yeah, promise. He always come back right? The training shouldn¡¯t be very long.¡± ¡°Yay! I wait then! The commotion became louder with the guard announcement, especially with the new players. The only known ways to getting level quickly is to defeat monsters, which is the main point of MMORPGs. Among the still protesting player, three familiar figures leave the area looking dejected. The three of them are of course Anna, Lyka, and Aqua. ¡°So today is another lockdown. Even though we already anticipated it so much.¡± Said the depressed looking golden haired girl. ¡°Huh! The guards are so stingy!¡± said the pink-haired girl. ¡°It can¡¯t be helped. The guards said Goblin hordes has been sighted near Gelsane Mountain Range. So precaution is taken.¡± Gelsane Mountain Range is the border between Noire City or North Abraxas and the still unknown south Abraxas. Usually no one is allowed to go near the border because of Ancient Dragon sightings. But with curiosity and increase in high-level players since the official release, eventually the field near the mountain became a popular spot for hunting. The three immortals walked through the city in a depressed state, only could imagine what it feels like to go hunting monster. ¡°I want to cleave a monster with an axe¡­¡± Anna murmured ¡°I want to try shooting fireball at monsters head¡­¡± This time it¡¯s Aqua. ¡°I want to raise my level¡­¡± Lyka also joined the depressed choir. Quest divided into several ranks, known ranks are F, E, D, C, B, A, AA, AAA, and S. although the only highest quest found so far is the C-rank. From the source of the whispers she could see two familiar faces, each with their own scared expression. ¡°I knew Anna is scared of things like this, but Aqua reaction is surprising.¡± Lyka knew Anna is afraid of ghost, as they sometimes watch horror movies together. The only thing she could see with her eyes was a huge figure wearing some kind of robe. The figure noticing trait is his glowing eyes, that only scared the three even more. ¡°Please don¡¯t eat me!¡± Suddenly, the giant in front of them screamed in pain and fell, releasing the giant¡¯s hand from the three collars. Soon all the lights on the room turned on, revealing the identity of the giant, an old man with very big and muscular body around 3 meters high, with a white hair and facial hair on the face and a golden eye. He wore a white training suit that usually seen in martial arts movie behind his robe. ¡°That¡¯s what you got for scaring away customers! The minor gods has prepared their best angels and demons as gift to win his trust, as it his trust is enough to make them a major god. At that time Lyka is only a fallen angel, an angel without master that somehow managed to sneak to the place Sylver and Anna arrived. She is interested in the alien being that about to arrive, and because of another reasons. She tried to enter the arrival place, but the arrival place is not allowed for non-invited. As an angel without master. She is automatically a non-invited. But that doesn¡¯t stop her from sneaking in. She passed through the guard without noticed. The gray-haired boy¡¯s eyes shine in many color, following it were a surge of aura that makes everyone on the vicinity felt the same thing. Fear. ¡°I already knew something like this will happen. I suspect everyone here will start to offer their servant like some goods. Is that right?¡± The boy said with a serious, yet relaxed voice. Everyone could only be silenced by fear. Except Lyka that has an expression of fear mixed with amazement. ¡®Amazing, this person could scared the gods even though he is not one.¡¯ ¡°I take your silent as a yes. I will choose one¡­¡± Before The gray-haired boy could finished her sentences. Expectant look appeared on the gods faces. ¡°But they won¡¯t be my servant, but an assistant.
