《Eyes of Time: New World》 Prologue: That faithful day. The scorching heat of the high noon illuminated the area around. Completely penetrating the ground surrounding me to the point that dry cracks have appeared. Walking across the street, a listless man lazily moved his popsicle towards his mouth as he murmured. "This sucks... " Earlier in the morning, he was informed by his boss that he was now fired from the job due to several consecutive absences. But how could he be absent for consecutive days when he just attended the office yesterday? The peculiarity of this event was enough for Michale to rack his mind out. As he thought of the endless possibilities about his expulsion. But he didn''t found anything irrelevant. Now, he held his slightly reddened shoulders in pain. His skin was extremely sensitive to the sun. If not for his current bad mood. He wouldn''t even walk across the street in a trance like manner. Since he lost his job. His girlfriend would definitely scold him upfront. Just thinking about his girlfriend''s 50. caliber like mouth made his shudder in dread. Michael raised his lifeless eyes as he glanced on the next intersection. Again, In a stupor like state. He walked across the intersection with his dizzy legs. Just as he was in the middle of the street. A fierce howl came inside his ears. Which made his half-conscious mind awake. "Bastard!!" ~Screechh! Followed by a sound of brakes forcefully stopping the wheels. Michael''s eyes widened. Before him was a twelve wheeler truck. The driver tried to frantically moved the vehicle from its current trajectory. But it was all too late. The truck had already reached three meters away from Michael. "Ah... Am I gonna die here?" Michael inwardly thought. His mind entered a dream like state, inside the dream. Countless experiences in his life flashed by. His first prom dance, his first date, his first sexy time. All of that, until now. Swiftly appeared inside his mind. Lastly, the image of his mother biding him farewell on her deathbed appeared. She wore a beaming smile as she took a final glance to his son and said. "Live well..." Before did he understood the words that he heard. Tears already rolled down his cheeks. He glanced over the speeding truck towards him. Now, It was less than two meters. "I don''t want to die..." ~Ding!!! A high pitched sound akin to a glass breaking encircled around Michael. Making him forcefully close his eyes as he covered his ears. "Ahh!! " The sound lasted for thirty seconds before it dissipated. Michael opened his eyes. There, he found himself inside a monotone world, deprived from any colors. His eyes widened as he noticed. The truck before him stopped on its tracks. Looking above the sky. The flying birds was in a halt. The drop of water in mid-air stopped. Everything around him stopped. He cannot even control his body. In this state, he was like a man frozen in a cold block of ice. He was completely immobile. "Do you really wanna live?" A feminine attractive voice resounded. Michael wanted to turn his head towards the speaker, but this immobile state he was currently in prevented him to. Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. ~Thud, Thud, thud. Soft steps of a shoe sounded, before the feminine speaker appeared before his line of sight. It was a thirteen year old young girl. Her outfit, was extremely peculiar. She wore a green dress, with a green belt around her waist. Paired with a green shoe, and green long hair. Her complexion was as fair as snow, now. Her face beamed with a light cold smile. As if she was looking down an inferior. The most eye catching one was her eyes. Her right eye was red, yet her left eye was green. Inside her pupil. A green pentacle shone with a green light. Michael gulped down a mouthful of saliva. But in reality, he was unable to do it. "Don''t worry, I''ll let you live, in the prerequisite that you will defeat the original holder of the Eyes." The girl said in a low tone as she waved her right hand. With that, as if an enormous pressure weighing down of him was lifted. Michael once again regained his freedom of movement. As he stuttered while saying. "Wh-wh-who are you?!" Michael retreated in a frightful manner. Inside this monotone world where everything was in a halt. This girl and Michael was the only people moving. "You need not to know my name. Since in the future. You will understand, according to the wheel of destiny. You are my heir. The heir to the Eyes of Time." The girl grimly said. Her figure turned to a particle of green light as it shot towards Michael''s right eye. "AHHH!!!" Intense pain came from his right eye as Michael fell on the ground, veins popped on his head as he gritted his teeth. Trying to endure the intense pain. Yet, he was unable to. Several green cracks appeared on the monotone world around him. As Michael endured the pain. A light familiar voice, resounded. "My heir, you''re already dead. But due to my power to control time, I manipulated your timeline and saved you from your indisputable doom. " "But I don''t need your thanks. What I need is your help. Grow stronger, and defeat the Original owner of the Eyes." "This world of yours is already doomed to disappear from the remnants of time. And so, you''re the only survivor. " "I''ll send you into a new world, with hopes that you can accomplish your mission." "Take care and farewell, my heir." ~DIINGG! The cracks surrounding the monotone world shattered with a high pitched sound. The sound akin to a glass breaking drowned the good bye worlds of the earlier girl. On the ground. Michael already lost consciousness. He already lost all signs of vital life. But suddenly, his right eye opened. Inside his pupil. A pentacle of green emanated a green light. Enshrouding Michael with its illumination before distorting the scenery around him. With that, the faithful day that Michael experienced ended. _________________________________________________________________________________________ A/N: Updates are one day apart from my first fiction, Modern Immortal! Please feel free to comment or write any suggestions! Chapter 1: Transported. Michael''s eyelids twitched, the dazzling rays of the sun pierced through his eyelids. Opening his eyes, a breeze of fresh air welcomed his face as his disheveled hair fluttered in the wind. But he immediately became dumbfounded. The scene before him was very peculiar. There were no traces of paved roads nor high skyscrapers before his eyes. It was all bare grasses. He realized in this point that he was inside a grassy plain. Michael fell to his butt. He still didn''t know what to do, should he thank her for giving him another chance in life or should he despise her for not saving him from that truck? But still. As Micheal''s mind circulated all the events in his previous life. He was wracked by endless bad lucks. His father went on a drinking spree and had an affair with another woman, eventually leaving him and his mother alone. His mother died of pneumonia when he was still fourteen years old. All sorts of events flashed by inside his mind, and made him somewhat emotional. Wiping his teary eyes. Michael finally mustered strength to stand up. Glancing around the area, he found out that he was somewhat on top of a grassy hill. This hill was quite strange since it doesn''t have any trees surrounding it, but a lifeless, barren desert. Below the hill. He could clearly see a pack of people moving in a certain manner. They seemed to be guarding something valuable. Witnessing that, Michael could clearly understand that he was somewhat transported into a world of medieval times. With no advanced technologies to speak of. Due to this baffling event, Michael didn''t even noticed that his eyesight became a thousand times clearer than what he had in his previous life. "Power, huh?" Michael murmured as he glanced on his opened palm. His eyes suddenly lit up as he clenched his fists and decided to slide down the hill towards the desert! ~Dzzzz... Michael felt friction pricking on his foot. Michael endured the pain and reached the bottom of the hill. There, he could now clearly see the caravan. But now, the mercenaries surrounding the caravan had their swords unsheathed, as they slowed down their paces and shot off their alertness to the roof. ~Rumble... Boom! With a sudden explosion, dusts filled the air as visibility disappeared around the mercenaries. One mercenary was quick enough and procured a small jaded bottle from his pouch and howled as he threw it on the ground. ~Ding! The jaded bottle broke and a green filled substance floated in mid-air before exploding in a series of shockwave. With that, the dusts surrounding the air cleared and the creature which emerged from the ground could now be clearly seen. A huge purple centipede with innumerable legs reaching a height of eight meters appeared before them! "Red alert!!! A platinum ranked desolate beast!" A mercenary shouted before igniting a firework. The firework then flew to the sky before exploding in a series of brilliant lights. The mercenaries'' eyes flashed with killing intent. As their alertness surged to the roof. "It''s a platinum ranked beast! Don''t expect it to be damaged with those puny iron swords! Use martial arts to attack it!" A mercenary howled before his sword shined, a grey light enshrouded his sword as he shot off towards the centipede beast. Seeing the actions of the mercenary, his companions morale increased as they all shouted in unison. "Kill!!!" Their swords started to shine in different colors as they attacked the centipede in a coordinated way. But their attacks were akin to an egg striking a rock. When their strikes landed, they could only leave a small white mark on the skin of the centipede. But nevertheless, the morale of the mercenaries didn''t loosen as they furiously continued their onslaught. ~SCREECCHH!!! The centipede led a howling cry as the dust surround it shot off towards all directions. The unguarded mercenaries became blinded due to the dust while the more alert ones used their arms to cover their eyes and maintained utmost vigilance. Soon, stomach churning cries emerged from the sandstorm as blood spewed on the ground. There, silently rolling, were three heads of the mercenaries who didn''t even knew how they died. Their face maintained the frozen expression of alertness. But once they noticed that their head were already severed. The heads visage became twisted in horror as they glanced over their headless body. Falling like a kite without strings. "Tcch! Dragon Clears the Sky!" Witnessing the fall of their comrades, a mercenary clicked his tongue as he furiously howled, the sword on his hand became captive with a reddish light as his aura simultaneously exploded. ~ROAR!!! A fierce dragon roar emerged as the man stepped on the ground before exploding forth towards the furious centipede. But he immediately regretted his actions. The centipede, seemed to reveal a mocking gesture as it opened his mouth in a circular fashion. Support the creativity of authors by visiting Royal Road for this novel and more. With that, a silver fluid flew from the centipede''s mouth towards the incoming mercenary. Having realized the incoming danger. The man''s figure became hard as he forcefully twisted his ankle''s backward and evaded the centipede''s trajectory. He immediately retreated in a swift fashion as he shouted. "Retreat! This beast is a fire elemental one! We cannot hope to defeat it!" But as he shouted. The ground where the spit of the centipede struck became melted into lava. Seeing this, the man''s face became filled with horror as he increased his pain, not minding the searing pain coming from his right foot. Just as his shout resounded, his vigilant comrade immediately retreated backwards, but not in a fast paced manner as he did. Instead, they retreated in a coordinated manner, all while throwing various jaded bottles towards the centipede. But still, It was unharmed. After confirming that all of his alive comrades had already entered the appropriate radius before the caravan. The previous man shouted. "Activate the defensive array!" "Yes!" The surrounding mercenaries immediately scurried around the vicinity of the caravan as they placed some shiny stones in a decent calculated manner. Meanwhile, inside the caravan. A small voice of a maiden resounded. "A platinum ranked beast? I hope that everyone is okay..." Her voice carried extreme worry. "Don''t worry, young mistress. Everything will be okay, let''s just believe that the main party will help us." An olden voice consoled the young maiden in a careful manner. "Formation is up! Circulate all of your qi on the stone tablet!!!" The previous man shouted as they swiftly carried out the intended actions. ~Bang, bang, bang... The centipede neared the caravan. With each of its steps. The ground beneath it would be melted to lava. It''s might alone was the proof that it was extremely formidable. "Defense formation is up!" A mercenary shouted as a bright yellow membrane of light covered the area surrounding the caravan. Meanwhile, on the center of the array. All of the mercenaries placed their hand on the scattered shiny stones as light enveloped their arms before being absorbed by the shiny stones. ~BANG! A fierce sound resounded. The centipede forcefully used its mouth to break the barrier. But only a ripple appeared on the barrier. And it immediately stabilized. Noticing this formidable barrier. The centipede grew impatient as it understood that the humans were barely borrowing time to wait for their reinforcements. So without further ado, it lifted its head towards the sky as fire elemental essence gathered over its mouth, forming a small fireball. "Shit! It''s concentrating its power on a fireball! Damn it!" A mercenary cursed as he witnessed that the fireball became increasingly brighter. Michael witnessed all of this, and his face became fierce. He closed his eyes as he imagined a sword hovering before him. As Michael snapped his eyes open. Countless sand particles gathered before him as it formed a longsword. The longsword appeared to be extremely fragile but as Michael clutched it on his hand. A profound feeling of power emerged within his mind. Without understanding what happened. The world before Michael came to a halt. Everyone became frozen still. The gathering fire elemental essence stopped, and the fierce expressions of the mercenaries stood frozen. Michael seemed to have entered a deep profound state as his eyes flashed with fierce killing intent as he darted his gaze towards the centipede. The frozen centipede in his eyes became practically naked. All of its weakness was revealed to Michael. Without further ado, Michael shot off with extreme speed towards the centipede with the longsword in hand before utilizing a thrust on the centipede''s chest! Aiming at a vital position of life! Without any interruptions. The longsword embedded itself in the chest of the centipede. But the centipede didn''t have any reactions, and blood didn''t even flow. Michael''s expression turned to a twisted smile as he landed on the ground. His right eye flashed with a green pentacle of light. With a blink of his right eye, the monotone world before him immediately became alive. Blood gushed out from the wound of which he stabbed earlier and the centipede led out a mourning cry before it quieted down. The people inside the barrier was dumbstruck. Michael himself was dumbstruck! Earlier, his body moved in a way that he didn''t will! It felt like he was possessed by something terrifying! Looking at his bloodstained hands. Michael didn''t utter any words as his body fell unconscious on the ground. Chapter 2: Power of Time. Michael''s consciousness gradually awakened. Within his murky line of sight. The monotone world had already vanished. What appeared before him was a four walled room. However, it was clear that this wasn''t a room made from bricks. But rather, a tent. Standing up. Intense pain filled his mind as he tried to recall the recent events that happened. Some pictures flashed by inside his mind but he still wasn''t able to clearly remember what actually happened. The only subject that was clear to Michael was that he was the one who killed the centipede. And his body was somewhat being controlled by other entity. Looking around the room. He found a ragged backpack of which he immediately looked inside. There he found several necessary items of daily life such as water, clothes, and food. Adding all of this has the potential to last Michael for one week. Beside the ragged backpack was a small sheepskin, embedded on a sheepskin were words that Michael couldn''t clearly understand. But shockingly, as he blinked his eyes. The words before him became as clear as an azure sky! Unknown sir, Please excuse us for leaving you abruptly, the goods the we carried were perishable so it was imminent that we fasten our pace towards the Golden Meadow City. If you happen to near this city. Please present this badge and the guards will give you warm welcome. Michael issued a long lasting sigh. But he didn''t say anymore as a refute as it was quite reasonable for them to do such actions. To them, Michael was an unknown entity. And with the experience that Michael gained from reading chinese wuxia novels, He had already deduced their true intentions. They didn''t want to risk their own group by carrying a potential bandit. Raising his head up high. Michael decided to move outside of the tent and carried the backpack with him as he surveyed the surroundings. Sand Dunes... Sand Dunes were everywhere. There was even an area where the sand dunes soared up high that it formed a little mountain. Looking around, the mountain filled with grasses disappeared from Michael''s sight. It wasn''t even there anymore, it was as if it didn''t even exist in the first place. A bleak helpless smile emerged from this place as he looked at the badge on his hand. How could he even reach this Golden Meadow City when he didn''t even know its general direction? He really was a headless fly for this one. Ding! A sound akin to a glass breaking emerged within Michael''s mind. The pain he felt became searing that he knelt on one knee as he gritted his teeth and endured the pain. Mixed emotions filled his chest as he waited for the monotone world to arrive. Surely, after waiting for about fifteen seconds. The world around him became black and white. The whistling wind halted as if it lost its life. The scorching heat of the sun was lost. Inside this monotone world. A feminine mocking voice resounded followed by a cold snort. "Hmmph! Why would you give up for just this little? This is just a small desert! To think that I''ve chosen you as my heir." The voice contained disappointment in it as it nagged. Michael was dumbfounded. He surely heard the voice but it didn''t resonated outside, it rang inside his mind! "Sigh... Although I said that, It''s still partly my fault. I didn''t give you enough knowledge to use your newly awakened power. " As the feminine voice''s sentence ended. Searing pain once again emerged and attacked Michael''s head like a gnawing needle. "AHHH!!!" Michael couldn''t endure it anymore and fell to the ground. His body in a fetal position as droll came out of his mouth like river as he clutched his head in desperate pain. However, Michael realized that as this pain entered his mind. Countless strips of information about the Eyes of Time and its history appeared inside his mind like a vivid crystal clear water. After about two hours, the pain inside his mind subsided. However, he felt extremely dizzy due to the fatigue of absorbing too much information about the Eyes of Time. Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. Some information in strips that he received was extremely muddled. That it looked like it was trashed around and coiled to a toilet paper before being placed in front of him to comprehend. The only vivid information was the concept of time. Michael closed his eyes as he chanted. "Time is eternal, time flows like a river... It''s power covers everything inside this cosmos. All things created, was created by the use of time. Therefore, time is everything. The answer to life and everything is time." When Michael opened his eyes. It flashed with deep profoundness in it as he stood up. He darted his gaze towards the horizon as determination filled his chest. "Golden Meadow City, I''m coming." Murmuring, Michael clutched the backpack on the ground and proceeded onward. ... After several days of walking and stopping on the way towards Golden Meadow City. Michael could finally see the hazy image of the city gates before him. And he was quite amazed. Several bronze statues stood beside the city gates. The gates performed an attention stance as they wielded a spear in their right hand. Emanating an archaic feeling. Michael revealed a small smile, judging from the distance. He could reach the city gates tomorrow. And so, Michael unfolded the tent inside his backpack and placed the remaining foods in a stack and rationed it to last tomorrow. Unfortunately, though this backpack included daily necessities. It''s set of clothes wasn''t enough for Michael to last for about several days. And so, as he took the clothes off. He felt a small disappointment and unwillingness. From now on. Michael would walk towards the city gates naked from his waist above. In these past days, as Michael walked towards the direction of the Golden Meadow City. He didn''t dare slacken and practiced his control of the monotone world. In that world, everything was in a halt and so, Michael could do anything he wanted in that span of time. However, he could only maintain that situation for only about ten seconds. Anymore than that would cause him to feel extremely dizzy that the world around him would seem to revolve in circles. "Following the instructions of that little loli, I should be able to do this." Michael murmured in a low voice as he fetched a handful of sand. With a squinted eyebrows. Michael slowly closed his right eye. Of which he immediately snapped open. However, his previous brown eye became embedded with a pentacle engraving and a green light shot forth towards the handful of sand as it slowly enshrouded it. According to the information inside his mind that he gathered. With his Eyes of Time. He could stop, reverse, accelerate the flow of time in any inanimate, or animate object. But he would need to pay a price for every time he ages, nourished, or destroy a living subject. That''s the law that the Eyes of Time had. The law of equivalent exchange. So Michael didn''t even dare to use a living subject as a practice target since he still didn''t have any Essence Crystals within him. That''s what the information strip said that can be used as a sacrifice in case that he needed to kill using the Eyes of Time. And so, Michael could only use the sand as a test subjcet. ~Cracking sounds resonated... ~Ding! The previous noise akin to a glass breaking appeared as the handful of sand before him turned to water! With an accomplished smile. Michael closed in with his mouth as he tasted the water and revealed a bitter smile of success. "Saltwater..."
