《Electrosilver》 Prologue Walking down the dark and long corridor was a young boy that looked to be in his mid-teens. Behind him were two strong-looking men in black suits. Their mean eyes perfectly blended with the no- nonsense air that they carried about them to produce the fitting image of battle hardened individuals. The boy that was walking in front of them ignored their presence in a manner that suggested that he had been through this scenario countless times. His pale face, bald head, and hollow eyes painted the perfect image of a terminally ill indivijual. His demeanor alone made one feel depressed, and just by looking at him you would shed tears in pity of his lifeless existence. As the three individuals walked, none of them spoke a word, the entire vicinity was shrouded in extreme silence. Only when they arrived at a rather large white door did one of the two suited individuals speak. His cold and raspy voice carried with it a hint of¡ pity? "You know what to do boy, we¡¯ve done it for a number of years already. Get in, have your tests, get out, and meet us here.¡± While the suited individual was speaking, the boy could only look, with sadness in his eyes, at the plaque above the white door. This golden plaque that he had viewed more times than he could remember in the past four years always seemed to mock him. He could not help but sigh inwardly at the irony of its words every time he viewed the plaque. Its words ¡®Luxemborg Centre for Human Research, Evolution and Happiness¡¯ always roused lamentations in his heart as he remembered how this place had ruined his once lovely life. When the suited individual finished speaking, he pushed the door open and the boy lazily got in. Inside, as expected, everything was white, from the floor, to the walls to the ceiling, even the clothes and equipment. The room itself was surprisingly large as it spanned a floor width of almost 300 meters squared. As soon as he entered the room, the boy went to a corner where there was seated a tall and thin middle aged man in a white lab coat. The man had short, Rudy blonde hair and a constant cajoling smile. He seemed to resemble a merchant of the old. Sitting down on a seat right in front of the man, the boy didn¡¯t say a word. The middle aged man, however seemed extremely jovial and started speaking about some things that the boy did not care to listen to. His mind was immediately drawn back to the day that his life came to ruin (something that happened often these days). He could clearly remember himself sitting in the sitting room and playing with his little sister in their middle class residence. His mom was in the kitchen programming the cooking robot while his dad had just walked out of the garage where he had parked his flying car. "Luke, come show mommy how to reset this.¡± Looking up, the boy saw his mom beckoning him over. He could not help but break into a smile at how illiterate his mother was when it came to modern technology. She always seemed to be the kind of person that would have fit in very well in the 2100s, not in the year 2450 like the rest of them. He, however, loved his mother greatly as she always doted on him and was always there for him. He really loved his close knit family of four. Just as he was walking over, to his surprise, Luke saw his mom losing balance and falling to the ground. As soon as she hit the ground, Luke heard two more thuds, one soft and one heavy. Looking back, he saw both his sister and father sprawled on the ground, seemingly unharmed. Before he could even try to figure out what was happening, Luke felt his vision darken as a cloth was wrapped around his eyes. His body was immediately levitated and began to move at top speed. The speed was so fast that had he not had a breathing mask put on him, he would have died of suffocation. By the time the moving stopped, Luke noticed that he could not move. It was as if he had been tied down with energy binders. When the movement completely stopped, Luke could feel his feet touching the ground and light returning to his eyes. Once his eyes adjusted to the light, the first thing he saw was a golden plaque atop a large white door ¡®Luxemborg Centre for Human Research, Evolution and Happiness¡¯. In front of that door was a suspicious looking tall and thin man in a white lab coat. The evil looking smile on his face betrayed all his intentions. On the man¡¯s coat was a badge that read ¡®Dr Evilus Armageddi. Luxemborg Secret Research Head Scientist.¡¯ Before the scrawny man could even open his moth to speak, Luke began throwing a tantrum ¡°Where am I? Where is my family? What did you do to them? Who are you people? What ha¡..¡± While Luke was in the middle of throwing his tantrum, he felt a pain on his neck and immediately after, his vision began to darken before everything completely went black. Opening his eyes once more, Luke saw the suspicious looking man in front of him once more. This time, however, he did notice that he was laying down on what seemed to be a bed. Realizing where he was, Luke began shouting at the man again, however, just as last time, he felt a pain on his neck and his vision began to darken. Only when he woke up the next time did he realize that he had a collar on his neck. Being that he was smart, he was able to deduce the function of this collar immediately. This collar seemed to be a restraint collar, something developed by the government to be used on prisoners, preventing them from disobedience until their sentence was over. To Luke who had only ever experienced the warmth of love and affection from his family and friends, this was nothing less than a nightmare. He could not help but think of how pitiful his life as a ¡®prisoner¡¯ would be from this day. Who knew what these people wanted to do to him? Maybe they would torture him, maybe they would remove his organs and sell them, maybe they would¡. That thought being too much for a ten year old child to bear, Luke started crying. He cried and cried until he passed out on his own. When he woke up the third time to the suspicious man in front of him, Luke did not say a word. He only sat up and watched the man while in teary eyes and haggard breathing. Only then did the man stop smiling and begin to speak in an excited voice. "Hello boy, my name is Doctor Evilus Armageddi, head scientist in this great organization of ours. Bet you¡¯re surprised, huh? Huh? No? Well that¡¯s cool too.¡± "Bet you¡¯re wondering why you¡¯re here. It¡¯s pretty cool actually. We are a hidden organization that specializes in the transformation of human memory to data that can be stored in computers. Pretty dope stuff¡±. This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. "And now to the reason why you are here. You, boy, have been selected to be our first test subject. Hurrah! No? Okay¡± "Don¡¯t look at me like that boy, this is a really prestigious offer, you should be proud that you are the one to pioneer humanity to a new age. Ooh, I now know why you¡¯re looking at me like that, you¡¯re wondering whether you¡¯re qualified, right. Well fear not. As I, Evilus Armageddi can assure you that you are the most viable candidate on the planet.¡± "We had our supercomputer (the best one in the world actually) go through the records of every single human being on the planet and out of every single one of them, you are the one with the highest mental resilience and for that you should be proud.¡± "I know you¡¯re dying to know what mental resilience is, right? No worries, this smart me will inform you. Mental resilience actually means how much manipulation your brain can handle without you losing your sanity. It¡¯s actually something that you¡¯re born with. Call it a inborn rare talent if you may.¡± "Our operation will actually entail removing bits of your memory at a time and planting them into the supercomputer. By the time we are done, your whole consciousness will reside in the virtual world, isn¡¯t that swell? Of course your real body will die, but that¡¯s a small issue. Your family is safe by the way so work like there is no tomorrow. I look forward to working on¡erm with you Luke.¡± "Guards, take him to his room.¡± From the beginning to the end, Luke had been unable to chide in and speak a single word. That man spoke as though the world was about to end any minute. He was however enraged by the man¡¯s words. Who was he to decide how Luke spent his life? Where did he get the right to just come and abduct him ? In as much as Luke felt enraged, he knew that there was nothing he could do. He at least felt happy that his family was safe. He hoped that they wouldn¡¯t be too sad about his disappearance. Luke was immediately brought back from his thoughts by a loud clap. Looking in front of him to see the still talking Doctor Evilus, he could not help but grin. This man sure could talk. "So Luke today is finally the day we upload the last bit of memory, you excited? I bet you are, you¡¯re going to leave your body after all. No need to worry, just leave everything to me, everything will be alright.¡± This man was indeed the epitome of hypocrisy. How could he not realize how contradictory his words were? As Luke could do nothing, he could only sit and wait as the sensors were injected into his brain through different parts of his head. To be honest he was actually quite excited. Today was the day when he would finally leave this lifeless life of being a lab rat. "Okay, everything¡¯s ready, Jacinta, start the supercomputer¡¯s processes. Today we will finally make history.¡± Dr. Evilus said in a voice more excited than usual. As soon as he said that, Jacinta pressed the button and the white room lit up. No matter how many times he experienced it, Luke could just not get used to this painful feeling. It was as if someone was using an extremely sharp knife to cut off pieces of his brain. This time, however, the pain was worse than usual and the one thing Luke could not understand was why it had already taken twenty minutes when it normally only took five. Just as these worries were going through his head, he looked over to see Dr. Evilus panicking and the other scientists running around haphazardly. At this point, his consciousness had almost been completely been assimilated. Before he lost control of his body, however, he could only make out a few words of what Doctor Evilus was shouting ¡°Repair¡± ¡°miscalculation¡± ¡°destruction¡± ¡°escape.¡±¡. and then, he blacked out. When he opened his eyes, he felt as though he were a stream of water moving at an incomprehensible speed. The longer this stream moved the larger it grew. The stream moved for so long that by the time it came to a halt, one could not see its end. It was as though this stream stretched off to infinity. This stream was naturally Luke¡¯s consciousness. Due to an error in Doctor Evilus¡¯s calculations that failed to take account of the human factor, Luke¡¯s consciousness was unable to stay within the supercomputer and as a result it absorbed all the information within it before moving on into other computers throughout the world through the internet. It absorbed their information while moving from computer to computer looking for an organic lifeform to take residence in. And thus, by the time Luke¡¯s consciousness had finished going through the last computer on the planet, it had so much information that it could be considered to be omniscient. What Dr. Evilus had failed to consider in his calculations was that the will of an organic life form is so strong that it cannot be stored in an inorganic space, and that is why, even after absorbing all that information, Luke still retained his consciousness. After having searched throughout the earth and not having found even a single organic life form with a mind strong enough to assimilate his consciousness, Luke decided to use the drones that humans had sent to space to search through other galaxies for the strongest brainwaves he could find. After sending out the drones as far as they could for nearly a year, Luke had still not found even a single worthy life-form. One day as he was searching, out of the blue, one of his drones got sucked into a black hole. Luke did not expect the drone to survive and had immediately given up on it when from that particular drone came a minor signal. As Luke transferred his vision to that drone, he could see a galaxy so large he would never have thought imaginable. Even with all his knowledge. Just as he was viewing its majesty, Luke detected brainwaves that were barely within acceptable range, however, as he knew that he would not find such a strong brain again for maybe even over a thousand years and by that time his consciousness would have already crumbled due to its incompatibility with its inorganic storage space, he immediately used the drone as a router to transplant his consciousness from earth to that far away galaxy. As he had set all the drones to self-destruct, he was not worried about getting tracked by the humans he had left behind. Once the whole process was over, Luke steeled himself as he wondered what kind of life he would be able to live in this new organic body. Chapter 1 When his consciousness came to inside his new body, all that Luke could feel was warmth, indescribable warmth and comfort. Trying to move his body, he noticed that it could not move at all. For a couple of minutes he tried to move with all his strength until he eventually resigned himself to the fact that the only movements he could make were very minimal ones. This was however a good opportunity for Luke as he noticed that he could use this opportunity to sort through all the information in his head. He figured that since this environment was not harmful to him in the least, he would first get himself together before trying to find a way out as he did not know whether the outside was as safe as this place he was in. And so Luke began to sort through the information that he contained in his brain. To his surprise, the information was so large that many a times, even though he was organizing the information at the speed of a supercomputer, he felt like giving up. The reason why Luke decided to organize the information was that while his consciousness was going through computers absorbing information, it was not selective on what information to pick and what not to. And as a result, while most of the information was useful, some of it was outright useless, some even harmful. After what seemed to Luke to be two Earth months, he had finally finished sorting through all the information, prioritizing the useful and discarding the harmful. He had organized it so well that at this point should he try to obtain some of the acquired information, it would be as fluid as though he were browsing through his own memory. Upon completion of the organization of information, Luke tried to move once more and noticed that while his movements were not even marginally helpful, they had improved from the last time that he tried and as such he came to the conclusion that the problem with his movement was something that would subside with time. Since he could not move, Luke decided to make use of his other senses to see whether he could make sense of the situation, and while sight and smell rendered to be of no use, hearing seemed to provide some information, though inconspicuous. Using his ears, he was able to make out a rhythmic sound. The more he focused, the drowsier he felt. The sound seemed to provide some sort of soothing sensation. From the sound of it, Luke immediately wanted to associate the sound with a heartbeat, however, no matter how hard he thought, he just could not come to terms with the fact that it was indeed a heartbeat, it was too slow, painfully so. The ¡®heartbeat¡¯ was so slow that a single beat took a whole five Earth minutes. However, while the beat was slow, it was strong. It sounded to him like the beat of a drum from the savannah. The more he concentrated on his hearing, the more the beat got singled out and became the only thing he could hear. Having tried everything else, he only had his last sense left, the sense of touch. Upon concentrating on the feeling on his skin, he noticed that all he could feel was warmth, nothing else. No texture, no vibrations, nothing. Only warmth. Refusing to accept that that was all he could amount to, Luke decided to focus every part of his being to feel his surroundings. While nothing happened at first, with every increasing moment, he continually felt a familiar feeling, as if an old friend of his was coming closer and closer. Ten earth minutes after Luke began to feel, he sensed a presence that he was familiar with. One that he knew so well, he could rightfully claim was the building block of his consciousness, electric pulses. The electric pulses were not simply one or two, but many in number. In fact, with every single second longer that Luke sensed his surroundings, the number of electric pulses that he felt increased. Upon closer inspection, Luke noticed that these electric pulses followed a pattern. He also came to notice that these electric pulses were not just outside but also within his body. To Luke this was an incredible surprise as he never would have expected to be able to sense electrical pulses. However, the more he thought about it, the more sense it made. For more than one year he had simply been an ethereal being. A consciousness that consisted simply of electric pulses. The bodies of all organic beings are similar in the sense that, the largest part of information in the body is relayed through electric pulses. In the brain, the nerves in both the cerebral cortex and the other parts, relay information as a series of electric pulses. The transmission of information throughout the body happens in the same manner as the nerves from the head to toe all transmit information in the form of electric pulses. Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation. It is for this reason that Luke¡¯s consciousness was able to be transferred into the supercomputer successfully. Thus, it makes perfect sense that since his brain processes information in the form of electric pulses and Luke is perfectly aware of the presence, nature and characteristics of electric pulses, he is able to sense them himself, even while in an organic body. As Luke focused on the pattern of the electric pulses outside his body, he noticed that they formed a shape. The more he focused, the clearer the shape became, and once the shape was fully clear, Luke could not help but gasp internally. It actually formed the shape of a¡.a¡.. A human! As Luke could not sense any electric pulses past the human shape that surrounded him, he could not help but come to terms with the fact that he was inside the body of another human, most probably a pregnant one, his mother. His future mother. Having come to terms with the fact that he was now a fetus in his mother¡¯s womb, Luke could only wait while trying his best to improve his ability to sense electric pulses both within and around him. Having tried his best for what seemed to be eight Earth months, Luke could now say with certainty that he could effortlessly sense all the electric pulses within both him and his mother. One thing that had baffled Luke, though not so much at this point, was that counting all the time that he had spent inside his mother¡¯s womb since his consciousness awoke, he counted ten months. Had it been in a regular human on earth, he would have had already been born by now. Though he had already come to a conclusion that the lifeform that he was now was not human because of its heartbeat, he could not help but be amazed at how two lifeforms could look so similar yet be so different. Having nothing better to do, Luke used the next month analyzing the electric pulses on what seemed to be his mother¡¯s head. The electric pulses were way more in number there than on any other part of the body. For the whole month Luke had been focusing on one particular electric pulse in his mother¡¯s brain. There were two reasons why Luke focused on this particular electric pulse, for one it was one of the very few stationary ones, making it easy to study as opposed to the rest that kept moving so fast you could barely deduce the information they carried. The second reason as to why he chose the stationary one was because he presumed that since it was stationary, it must have been a brain wave containing very useful information or a very useful memory that had been stored in the long term memory. Towards the end of the month just as he about to decipher the brain wave, he managed to view two images before his concentration was broken by some sudden form of movement. The first image contained the fleeting image of a female person of average height with long black hair walking away into the horizon with tears falling from her eyes while the second image contained the image of a person looking over onto a large gathering of people. The gathering was filled mostly with women who were all cheering and shouting in joy. As soon as his concentration was broken, Luke finally noticed that the time for him to make a debut into this new world had come. As the movement increased, he sensed himself exiting from the comfortable warm embrace and moving into a very uncomfortable environment (though this was nothing unexpected). Once Luke¡¯s body had fully exited into the outside world, he could hear a number of gasps before some very soft hands carried him, wrapped him up in some cloth and started whispering some things that he could not understand to his ear. The language was so melodic that every sentence sounded like the stanza of a song. Coupled with the soothing female voice of the speaker, one could not help but feel intoxicated. Having been overcome by curiosity, Luke could not help but open his eyes. However, the moment that he opened his eyes, he noticed to his dismay that the only thing that he could see was¡¡¡.. Nothing! He was in total darkness! Chapter 2 The moment Luke opened his eyes, he could hear gasps even louder than those that he had heard before. To him, however, these sighs were inconsequential. The only thing that was on his mind right now was the question of why he could not see anything. He tried coming up with many conjectures as to why he could not see while his eyes were open ¡®maybe the lights are out, maybe lights just didn¡¯t reach this room that he was in, maybe it¡¯s just night time.¡¯ Unfortunately, the more suppositions that Luke came up with, the more implausible he realized they were. Considering his mother was undergoing childbirth, Luke was certain that there would be a form of lighting around to ensure successful delivery. And even if it happened to be nighttime and the others could still see (well, they are a new life form after all), then he, as one of them, should have been able to too. Thus, after thinking for a while, the only conclusion that he could come to was that he was blind. The more he thought about it, the more it made sense. While choosing the body that his consciousness would reside in, he had chosen a brain with barely passable brain waves, thus it was only natural for one of the pre- existing faculties of the brain to be over-run to create space for his consciousness. Sadly, what he had not anticipated was that the part of his brain that would get over run would be his optical lobes, the part responsible for governing sight. At this point, Luke could do nothing but come to terms with the fact that he was now blind. Life would probably hard from this point forward, but he would do his best to survive and strive forward. After all, he had been given a second chance at life. No use in whining at this point. The only thing that made Luke a bit happy was that, while he did not have sight, he did have a fountain, more precisely, a treasure trove of knowledge that he not only knew but also perfectly understood. While he was not entirely certain on about how much use this information would be on this new planet, he figured that better to have more than less, right? Luke was broken away from his thoughts once more by the sound of the soothing voice. However, in as much as it was soothing, it was of no use if he could not understand it. Thus Luke decided to use his knowledge on linguistics of all different languages from earth to try and decipher this language, the same way archaeologists of the old were able to decipher the meanings of the even more ancient hieroglyphs of Egypt. While there was not much that he could understand at the beginning, with each passing second that they spoke, he was able to understand a word more. One other thing that Luke could not help but notice was that his earing was splendidly swell. He was not sure whether it was just a characteristic of his new race or whether it was because he was blind (most blind people tend to hear better after all), but one thing was for certain, he could hear a person¡¯s breathing from a distance that seemed to be five meters away. Five minutes after he started the analysis of the language, Luke was fairly certain that he could now say that he had a rather firm grasp on the language. Feeling confident in his abilities, he decided to listen in on what the four people in the room were talking about. ¡°Congratulations my queen, what a beautiful baby you have.¡± One of the ladies to his right said in a jovial manner. ¡°And it¡¯s a boy too, who would have thought. For us high humans that¡¯s a rare blessing¡± Another said in a pleasantly surprised voice. ¡°He looks quite strange though, who would have thought that he would have¡¡± A different surprised lady stated. However, before she could even finish speaking, an old, raspy and disappointed- sounding voice chided in. ¡°It¡¯s a pity that he¡¯s blind though. His eyes have no pupils so I¡¯m guessing that he can¡¯t see. We only have one chance to get a prince, and guess what? He¡¯s blind. Fate is such a tinker¡¯s dam. Too bad there¡¯s nothing we can do about it. Guess we¡¯ll just have to take care of him. Life will most likely be harder for him that it will be for us¡±. As Luke listened to their words, he could help but sigh. ¡®Queen? Prince? High human?¡¯ What had he been born into, some form of middle ages? However, as he had come to expect the unexpected, this did not faze him much. The only thing that made him quite intrigued was the discovery that he was of a race of high humans. While he did not know the specific characteristics to this race yet, that single statement had answered a lot of his questions. While still in deep thoughts, he noticed that he could still sense electric pulses in the air around him. This did not surprise him much as he knew that, provided a planet had an atmosphere, it would have electromagnetic waves moving on its surface in a particular pattern. And as every single object on the planet contained energy through the movement of the particles in their atoms, they would radiate electromagnetic pulses. What instead surprised him was that he could only sense the electromagnetic pulses around him for a distance of fifty centimeters. How little. The only saving grace that he felt he had was that he could detect the electromagnetic waves pulsing through all the objects within that fifty centimeters radius in a specified pattern, and thus he could make out all their shapes and positions. From what he could detect, the only living life form within his detectable range was the woman that was holding him, most probably his mother. ¡°So what will you name him Jade?¡± He heard the old the old raspy voice asking his mother. So she¡¯s called Jade, huh? Pretty good name. He thought. ¡°Because of his lack of sight, I shall call him Dusk, like the dawn of night. Thus as the son of I Jade Moonlight, Queen of Empiria, he shall be called Dusk Moonlight¡±. His mother said in a rather saddened voice. He could notice from her tone of speech that from the way she talked about his sight, she had received a major blow from its absence. Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon. Dusk, huh? He quite liked the name. ¡°From this day forward, in this new body of mine, I shall no longer be known as Luke but shall now be known as Dusk Moonlight, son of Jade Moonlight¡±. He thought to himself as he smiled internally. While Dusk felt quite bad for having made his mother feel bad because of his sight, he knew that there was nothing he could do about it and so he could only strive to live a life worth making her happy. After having named him, Dusk¡¯s mother dismissed the other three out of the room. From the comfortable way in which she acted, Dusk was able to deduce that this room was one that she was most familiar with, most probably her bedroom. As soon as the other¡¯s left the room, Dusk¡¯s mother placed him on the bed beside her and started singing him lullabies while talking to him lovingly and at the brink of tears. ¡°Dusk my pretty baby, no need to worry, mama¡¯s here for you, mama will protect you. Ooh, my poor baby, no need to worry, no one will bully you. Mama will protect you because mama loves you, okay? You¡¯re mama¡¯s special baby boy¡±. His mom said in a voice so soft one would not help but think that she was talking to herself. Upon hearing those words, even though Dusk had stopped being an emotional boy by nature, coupled with the fact that the time he spent as an ethereal being had dulled his emotions, he could not help but cry internally. For him to go from a place where he was unappreciated and just treated as specimen, to a place where someone had vowed on her life to protect and watch over him, he could only feel thankful to the universe. For the next few days, the only person Dusk spent his time with was his mother and he was surprised at how she treated him. She handled him so delicately, as though he were a fragile doll. She would always carry him around wherever she went, and whenever she sat down to do some work (she was a queen after all), she would always place him next to her. Soon enough, Dusk had learnt that he was stuck to his mother like gum to a boot. One other thing that Dusk noticed to his astonishment was that for all the time since he was born, he never once felt hungry. Of course he would often feel sleepy and fall asleep just like a normal baby did but not once did he feel hungry. What surprised him even more was that his mother had not even once made an effort to feed him, as though she was aware of what was happening. The only conclusion that Dusk could thus come to was that high humans, as a race, did not require food. But then if that was so, then where did they obtain the energy for their daily functions? This was something that he would have to look into later. At this point in time, Dusk, after many trials, had already come to be fully convinced that he was totally blind. Thus these days he preferred to keep his eyed closed and instead focus on sensing the electromagnetic pulses around him. Maybe they would give him some answers. At this time, the radius of his influence had already expanded to sixty centimeters around his body (almost two feet). One thing that Dusk had in mind was to try and decipher his mother¡¯s long term memory brain waves. He clearly remembered how, just before his birth, he had been able to view two images. He was certain that had his concentration not been interrupted, he would have been able to view some more of his mother¡¯s memories. While the prospect of also deciphering his mother¡¯s other brain waves and the other electric pulses throughout her body to see whether he could control them sounded appealing to Dusk, it was close to impossible for him to do at the moment because they just moved too fast. While in the future he may be able to decipher them, at the moment he simply had to make do with the long term memory brain waves which only oscillated in the same position. This, to Dusk, was however a good thing as what he needed now for the most part was information of his new home, and the only way to get that was to pry through his mother¡¯s long term memory brain waves. Dusk was not at all worried because he was certain that other than him, no one else on the planet could detect either electric or electromagnetic pulses or even know of their presence, they were after all invisible. And even if they happened to know of its existence, that was all they would do, know. He was sure that unlike him, they would be unable to manipulate the pulses to their benefit (even he had come to learn of this ability trough a very unrepeatable ordeal). As such, he was sure that even his mother who was right next to him would be unable to know what he was doing. To her, he would most probably look just like an immobile child. And indeed Dusk, from the perspective of an outsider, did look as though he were dead. Were it not for his breathing, one would have had already thought to bury him. After all, as dusk never felt hungry, he naturally did not eat. And as he did not eat, he naturally did not excrete, and as a result, he always remained silent as he did not have the reasons that other babies had to cry. Coupled with his lack of movement and sound was the fact that Dusk, did not even once, open his eyes. It was indeed strange. And so dusk began his mission of deciphering all the memories contained within his mother¡¯s long term memory brain waves. While he knew that it would take fairly long, he also knew that by the end of this ordeal, he would have gained two massive benefits. One was information on his new home, and the other was practice on how to better control both electric and electromagnetic waves. Chapter 3 While Dusk had expected it to take him long, this surprised even him. For him to take one whole year sorting through his mother¡¯s memories, just how many did she have? How can someone that is approximately thirty years old have so many memories? His question had, however, been answered as he had come to learn that his mother had, not just 30 but 157 years¡¯ worth of memory, and that wasn¡¯t even the half of it. Ooh no. From what he could see, his mother was still among the younger ones in their race meaning that some other people had lived for much, much longer, to the point of thousands of years. While he had been analyzing the brain waves, Dusk had made sure to not interfere with them as he knew that a single alteration of his mother¡¯s brain waves would result in A lot of problems. Luckily the brain waves for long term memory simply oscillated in the same position, and as such, it was rather difficult to alter them. And so, for the first time in one whole year (apart from the times he slept), Dusk¡¯s consciousness left his mother¡¯s mind. As soon as he came back to the outside world, he was astounded by what he came to learn. Over this one year, the range at which he could sense the Electric and electromagnetic pulses (E.M pulses) had increased to two kilometers. Quite a sweet range. This wasn¡¯t even the most surprising thing. He came to learn that within this area of influence, he could instantly access the long term memories of any single person he wanted to. He, however, didn¡¯t do so as he saw no need to. He had already acquired all the information that he needed from his mother. And some extra too. The reason why Dusk could now instantly access the memories of anyone within his range was that during the one year that he had been searching through his mother¡¯s mind, he had come to understand the patterns that brain waves follow. And though everyone¡¯s brain waves are a little different, using those patterns as a template, Dusk could be able to instantly acquire each person¡¯s memories. What Dusk now wanted to do was to be able to see whether he could decipher and/or alter all the other non-stationary E.M pulses within a person¡¯s body, however, at the moment, they still moved too fast for him (though considerably slower comparing to the first time he tried) and he also feared trying it on his mother because should he mess up, his mother would have to suffer serious repercussions. For those reasons, he could do nothing but continue training to increase his affinity with E.M pulses by sensing the E.M pulses around him. One other thing that Dusk had come to learn was that his mother had been constantly worried about him. Especially since he did not even move an inch of his own accord for more than one year after his birth, his mother began to think that he was disabled. To ease his mother¡¯s worries, Dusk tried to move for a bit, while still keeping his eyes closed. He noticed that he could move his arms and feet up and down, roll around, and crawl for short distances. Once his mother saw this, she started shouting in joy. Abruptly so. ¡°Dusk, my baby, you can move, you can move. You¡¯re crawling. Mama¡¯s so proud, she could faint right now.¡± His mother¡¯s voice was so loud that Dusk almost failed to hear the sound of tear drops falling to the floor. Having eased his mother¡¯s worries, Dusk decided to go back to being still so that he could once more review the memories that he had obtained. Of what Dusk came to learn, this world had no name, its inhabitants never gave it one. The high humans were all located on a single almost circular continent and knew nothing of the world outside it. The reason for this ignorance was that towards the outer part of the almost circular continent was a forest. This forest by the name of ¡®The Forest¡¯ covered the whole continent in a circular manner and was said to be filled with extremely dangerous monsters. So much so, that while many people had left to explore it in a bid to discover the outside world. None had returned. The good thing, however, was that while the high humans may have been unable to leave their continent, the Alatza Continent. The continent in itself was extremely big hence there was more than enough space for everyone to fit in. As per Dusk¡¯s calculations, if compared to earth, it would have been the size of all continents (except Antarctica) combined. This huge continent was ruled by the Alatza Empire. To the center of the almost circular continent was a large lake, The Espian Lake. The Espian Lake was also almost circular in shape. Between the lake and the forest, the land was divided into six great kingdoms, each approximately the same size: The Latzuna Kingdom, The Empiria Kingdom, The Domica Kingdom, The Letendo Kingdom, The PratzalI Kingdom and The Melona Kingdom. Dusk learnt that he was born to the Empiria Kingdom. To the queen, Jade Moonlight. Due to their seclusion, the high humans only knew of the existence of two races. There may have been more, but that was all they knew. The two races in existence were the high humans and the dragons. The Dragons were known because they often flew above the Alatza Continent. Thus while the high humans knew that this planet of theirs was big, they did not know by how much. Dusk, however, after determining the gravitational pull on this planet using the nature of the E.M pulses in his surroundings, was able to determine that this planet was at least 65 times bigger than earth. That big. Although the planet was many times bigger than Earth, its fast rotation caused it to have days that were 24 hours long. Similar to earth From what he saw, Dusk was able to learn that the high human race tended to have more females than males. It seemed to be a genetic trait. It was so severe, in fact, that of every ten children born, only one was a boy. For this reason, the society was matriarchal. It was also for this same reason that high humans did not have the concept of marriage. They saw both no use for it and no means by which it could be achieved. The high humans were a really pretty species, almost like elves, who at some point stop aging. Depending on where they came from, they all either had black, brown, red or golden blonde hair. Their eyes were mostly of either the colors black, brown or blue. Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences. Their buildings mostly looked like those of the Middle Ages, however, almost all of them surprisingly contained glass windows. In this world there was a thing called mana. Mana was a form of energy that existed all around: in the air and in all other things. Using mana, one would be able to do things such as cast spells. Coupled with mana was the elemental affinity, every single human had one. However, an extremely few number had two, and as for three, no one has been said to have had one ever since the beginning of time. It is said that the earth is made up of different elements, these elements have existed since the beginning of time and will exist till the end of it. During the time of one¡¯s birth, one is chosen by an element based on his/her personality and state of mind. Once an element chooses you, it will become your affinity. It is for this reason that by studying someone¡¯s personality, you can easily know what elemental affinity they possess. Of these elements, there are some that are common like: Earth, Metal, Fire, Water, Wood and Wind while there are others that a rare such as Space, Void and Darkness. One is only able to know his affinity five years after birth. The reason for this is that during the time of five years from birth, the elemental affinity will be assimilating into the body. Only upon complete assimilation is one able to get a feel of what his affinity is. The revelation of affinity comes as an epiphany. For example if you have the affinity for fire, upon your revelation you feel as though the world in front of your eyes is getting scorched in flames. It does not actually happen, but that is what you feel. The reason why affinities are so important is that, during the casting of spells, though someone without the water affinity may cast a simple water spell, his mana will be largely depleted as opposed to someone with the affinity who could cast it effortlessly. In this world, all you need to do for you to cast a spell in your affinity is to think about it. Provided you have enough mana for what you want to do, it will succeed. And it is exactly for this reason that strength in this world is measured by the amount of mana one can store in their body. The range goes from E-A-S-SS-SSS. The ranges are then further divided into lower, middle and upper per class. While most children are born with the strength of E, few, mostly those born to royalty may be born a bit higher. As queens must be strong for them to rule, they naturally sire children with fathers that are strong too. It is because of this that most of the children born to queens usually start at around C rank. It is even rumored that the daughter of the empress was born at B rank. While the rankings of strength go all the way from E-SSS, there is not a single high human through history that had been able to achieve the rank of SSS. The highest rank that had ever been achieved was SS, and that was done by the current empress. Even though she is only at the lower SS rank, she is still the strongest high human alive. The reason why the high humans decided to incorporate such high ranking even when they themselves were unable to achieve it, was because of the dragons. Dragons, even when just born would be at S rank, hence the only known SSS rank being to ever be seen was a dragon. As Dusk thought about this, he was extremely proud of his mom. For her to be one of the few strongest high humans at middle S rank at just 157 years of age, added to the fact that she had two elemental affinities, water and earth, she could be considered a genius. Comparing himself who was only at middle C rank to her, he felt like nothing. Dusk also came to learn that it is still because of mana that high humans did not need to eat. As all High humans are able to store mana, they subconsciously use it as energy to power their activities hence they do not need to eat. From his mother¡¯s memory, Dusk came to discover that in his family, apart from him, he had two elder sisters. The reason why he had never met them was because both his sisters were at the academy where they had gone to learn magic. His first sister resembled his mum so much that should you put them together, you will be unable to tell who is who. Just like his mother, his first born sister Seria Moonlight was a twenty-year-old looking lady that had long black hair that fell all the way to her back. She had slightly upward slanted eyes with black iris that seemed to scream motherly affection. She was equipped with an ample bust and a very well curved behind that seemed to emphasize her womanly charm. As opposed to her mother who often wore loose fitting clothes, she would often be spotted wearing body hugging dresses. Perhaps where Seria differed the most from her mother was that while her mother was a person who was kind and affectionate by nature, she was a person who was more pragmatic. More of an icy beauty per say. As she had strength at the lower A rank with the rare darkness attribute, she could also be considered a genius. His other sister Sunny Moonlight was the complete opposite of the first born. She had shoulder length hazel brown hair, dark brown eyes and could often be seen wearing shorts. She looked fifteen years of age and had a sort of a tomboyish feel to her. The constant smile on her face and her constant talking easily gave off her fire affinity where she was at the upper B rank. Dusk was really happy to learn this information, as to him, the more people in the family, the better. The last part that left Dusk completely amazed was his appearance. He looked so different from anything he would have imagined. But while his look was different, it was totally ¡.. Awesome! Btw guys, this was an info dump type chapter so I''m sorry if it was boring. The next one will definitely be better Chapter 4 During that whole year that Dusk spent with his mother, he had not once been taken outside the house. All the time, he would either be in his mother¡¯s office or in her bedroom. Because of this, Dusk noticed that his mother was extremely busy. He could always hear her writing something down or talking to herself about matters regarding management of the kingdom. There were even times when multiple advisors would barge into to her office at once to inform her about matters pertaining the Kingdom without her consent. Dusk had heard their conversations so much that he was quite confident at this point that, should he be given a kingdom to manage, he alone would suffice. Barely. As his mother was talking to herself a lot of late, Dusk had been able to pick up on some rather important thing. One of which being that his sisters were about to arrive home. From the way she talked about it, it appeared that the girls had rushed their previous year and opted to not go home so that they would be able to spend this whole year at home. And so, in a few days, the girls would arrive for their holidays. Every Kingdom on Alatza continent had its own magic school, and so the School that both Seria and Sunny went to was called Empiria Magic Academy. At the magic academy, students were not only taught subjects pertaining magic but other subjects as well. While the prospect of school sounded quite appealing, Dusk felt that he had no need to go for two reasons. One being that he had already learnt all that pertains to magic from his mother¡¯s memories and second, he did not need to learn the knowledge of those other subjects because his knowledge from earth had far, far surpassed anything that they taught on this planet. At this moment, it would not be an exaggeration (it would in fact be an understatement) to say that he was the smartest person alive. Although he wasn¡¯t really keen on going to school, he knew he would have to. Why? Because you are just not born blind with such kind of unexplainable knowledge. He already looked quite different from the people of this world, he did not want another bull¡¯s eye mark on him. One of the most beneficial things that he had learned from his mother¡¯s memories, concurrently, was to meditate. Meditation was a process by which all beings with mana were able strengthen their mana veins and increase their mana pool. While mana veins and mana pool were not things that could be seen with the naked eye, their existence was certain. During meditation, one would try to detect mana from the surrounding air. Once that was accomplished, you would enter a state of mind in which you imagine yourself an empty pond and let mana flow into you from your surroundings, move through your mana veins, and be deposited in your mana pond. While this process was slow, with time it would show very pleasant results, for that reason, it was advised that people start this process immediately they attain their elemental affinity. Although it is possible for one to meditate before he/she attains an elemental affinity, that mana obtained will be of little use because it will not be attuned to his/her element. Say for example that the mana that is absorbed by a person with elemental affinity is in form of petrol, the mana absorbed by a person who has not yet acquired his affinity is in form of water. While both substances are able to fill the volume, one can be used as a fuel while one cannot. While Dusk really wanted to meditate, he decided to put it on hold for two reasons. One, he knew that it would be of little use before he attained his affinity, and second, he knew that it would not be smart to meditate in front of his mother, a person that could easily detect fluctuations of mana. He just was blind, not stupid. And so, he could only be patient and wait. The good thing was that while waiting, he could always increase his level of attunement to E.M pulses. As he was still thinking about all of this, Dusk remembered an image that he saw in his mother¡¯s memories. Looking at the person before him, Dusk could not believe that he was looking at himself. The person before him just looked so ¡®different¡¯. Was this some form of mutation? Adaptation? In front of him was a very small boy, seemingly one year old. The color of his skin was so white that it resembled the winter snow. Atop the boy¡¯s head was shoulder length hair that was white as well. So white, in fact, that it seemed to shine with a resplendent glow. The boy had a face that was so cute, you would want to just snatch him and keep him all to yourself. However, in as much as the boy was cute and young, you could tell that he was not na?ve as he unconsciously seemed to exuded an aura of someone who was calm and collected. Someone who seemed to have seen it all beneath the heavens. One thing that stood out the most was that on the boy¡¯s face, right below his right eye, and on the back palms of his hands, there existed silver linings. These silver linings were largely similar to those on computer mother boards and circuit chips. While you would have expected such linings to make him look weird, they seemed to add onto his charm and made him look even more cute and doll-like. Added to the fact that the boy never opened his eyes, one would not be mistaken to think that he was a real doll. Of late, Dusk had come to notice that his mother cried a lot. He knew that she was sad but unfortunately did not know why, he had only read her long term memory brain waves, not her short term ones. The one thing he supposed, however, was that she must have been lonely. How would you feel to have a son only to have him live like a lifeless being? While Dusk was not certain that that was the cause, he was pretty sure. To make things clear, let me explain the types of E.M pulses in existence. There are two major types of E.M pulses present, those inside the bodies of living beings and those outside. Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author. Inside the bodies of living beings were three types of E.M pulses: the long term memory brain waves (L.M waves), the short term memory brain waves (S.M waves) and the nerve impulse waves (Nerve waves). Of these three, the first two resided in the brain while the last coursed throughout the body. All three of these pulses have different functions. The L.M waves are responsible for storing information and memories. They often just oscillate in fixed positions of the brain. The S.M waves are responsible for storing the information of what a living being is thinking, seeing, and smelling at that moment, in short, all of that being¡¯s current thoughts. For that reason, these waves are extremely fickle and fast in their movements. While some could last a little longer depending on what one is thinking about, they never stay for too long and simply disintegrate to leave space for new ones. The nerve waves are the ones that cover the largest portion of the body. These waves move extremely fast in the body as they have two important functions. The first one being to send orders to different parts of the body on what they should do. Say for example, one wants to move a part of his/her leg, nerve waves will be sent to that part of his/her body to transmit the information. The second function of nerve waves is to relay to the brain what different parts of the body are feeling. Be it heat, cold, pain, pleasure or all other types of feelings. Dusk had come to learn after a couple of trials that, while he could not control the nerve waves in other peoples¡¯ bodies yet, he could control the ones in his own just fine. For that reason, he was capable of making himself incapable of feeling anything. Be it pain, pleasure or heat. However, while he could not feel the stimuli, it did not mean that their effects were not there. Should he jump into a fire, for example, he would naturally get burnt. Other than the E.M pulses inside the bodies of living beings, there are those that exist outside. Those that exist outside come in two forms, the planet waves and the inanimate waves. The planet waves are those waves that are naturally produced by the planet. They move around the planet in a specified manner. Ever changing, but still specified. The inanimate waves are those waves produced by inanimate objects such as rocks and trees. These waves come from the collision of particles within their atoms. All beings actually produce inanimate waves, but since living beings produce stronger waves which overshadow them, these waves are naturally negligible in living beings. These were all waves that Dusk is able to sense without effort. But in as much as he can detect all these waves, the only one that he is able to decipher and control at this moment is the L.M waves, mostly because of both its stationary nature and because of his experience with his mother¡¯s memories. He made a mental note to study all the other ones later. For now he had to give his mother company. Having noticed how sad his mother had become because of presumed loneliness, Dusk felt sad. He was sure that majority of the time she felt lonely, it was because of his immobility. After all, how would you feel if you had a son whose only actions were to remain still? Feeling the error of his ways, Dusk promised himself to spend more time with her. She was a really good mother after all. And other than that, now that he had gotten a hold of his bearings, he had less to worry about. Having steeled himself, Dusk slowly crawled to his mother. It was quite easy to detect her position as she was the only person in the room. At this point, although Dusk could detect any presence within his two kilometer range, he could not discern who was who. He could maybe try to figure out a person¡¯s identity based on the body outline that their E.M pulses made, but that was extremely inefficient as there may exist different people that have the same body shape. Take his sister and his mother for example. Having arrived at his mother¡¯s position, he climbed onto her lap and sat there while hugging her. He could hear a gasp of astonishment escape from her lips as her pen immediately stopped its writing and dropped onto the table. As he had now gotten her attention, Dusk faced upwards to his mother¡¯s face, with his eyes still closed, and muttered his first word ¡°Mama¡± While it may have been rather abnormal for a human child to say his/her first word at the age of only twelve months, for high humans it was pretty normal. Thus Dusk had perfectly timed the moment at which he would say his first word. Although he had long since known how to speak, Dusk had never had any reason to. But today he did. Before he could even finish the word, he heard a girlish squeal from his mother. ¡°Dusk, baby, say that again.¡± ¡°Mama¡± ¡°Ooh Dusk, my baby. Now tell mama you love her.¡± ¡°Mama, wove. Mama wove.¡± ¡°Eeep, Dusk my baby you are so smart, let mama give you a hug. Let mama give her favorite son a hug.¡± As she was speaking, she grabbed Dusk and put him in a really tight hug before she started to proclaim her love for him for the next couple minutes. From that moment till the time that they went to bed, Jade did not let go of Dusk even once. Even at night while they slept, she made sure to put him on her chest, right in between her heavenly mounds as she hugged him through the night. Hey guys, I cannot assure the scientific accuracy of all the facts stated in this chapter. So take it with a grain of salt, kay? Thanks Chapter 5 For the next few days, when dusk was not spending time cuddling his mom and having intellectual baby talk conversations with her, he was he was attuning himself to the E.M pulses outside his body. He had already carried out tests on all his body parts and had discovered that while he could not see, all his other senses were in tip top condition. Apart from his eyesight which was nonexistent, all his other four senses were extremely sharp. While he wanted to train his senses to see whether he could improve them, he doubted such a thing was possible. And if it was, he guessed that it would take years upon years. Think of it like this, ever since you were born, how many times has your hearing improved? Not even once, right? Exactly. Moreover, he already had it going pretty well for himself, he didn¡¯t want to be too greedy. One thing that he wanted to soon be able to do was to see whether he decipher the nature of inanimate waves so that he could be able to differentiate between different types of objects by not only using their shapes but also their natures. The reason why he decided to start his journey of wave discovery with inanimate waves was that, of all the waves he could not yet decipher, they were the easiest. After all, they stayed either within or on the surface of the object that produced them, thus they were rather easy to study. And so, for the past ten days, he had been training. Due to his active training in E.M waves outside the body, his range of impact had increased to a little under 2.5 kilometers. Within this range, he could sense that he was inside some form of palace, only that this palace was huge! Within this palace, there were surprisingly few people. While one would have expected such a huge castle to contain hundreds, if not thousands of people, it only contained thirty of them. Outside of this palace were many residences with humans inside. These residences were all around the palace in a circular manner, it was as though the palace was the seismic point and the houses were the waves. One thing that astonished Dusk, however, was that while he would have excpected there to be an extremely strict wealth divide in such a society, the only houses that seemed more pompous than the rest were those within a radius of one kilometer around the palace. Futher than that, for as far as Dusk could sense, all the houses seemed to be of the same stature. While they were not as good as those within the one kilometer radius, they were pretty awesome themselves. It seemed as though in this city, the Empiria capital city, everyone lived lavishly. However, the more you thought about it, the more sense it made, unlike in regular human societies where you had to work for you to get food to eat, in the high human society where eating was unnecessary, you could even choose not to work and you would still live comfortably. Provided you have a means to acquire clothes and a safe place to live. One building in his radar that still baffled him no matter how many times he saw it was a building right outside the one kilometer radius that was almost as big as the palace. This building, he clearly remembered from his mother¡¯s memories, was called The Doorfables association building, and to his knowledge, every kingdom contained more than one. The purpose of its existence was to provide a platform by which people could go explore the forest in exchange for fable points and money. The Doorfables association was formed for two main reasons. The first one was that while most of the high humans were comfortable living in the Alatza continent with no regard for what was going on outside, others felt that they were bound for greater things and so they felt uncomfortable having been confined into the Alatza continent by the forest around them. It is for that reason that the Doorfables association was formed to issue out missions for exploration and mapping of the forest and for the identification of different species of beasts present in the forest. The missions were usually issued out to people at different levels of difficulty based on one¡¯s level of strength. The second reason why the Doorfables association was formed is that in the past, after going to the forest and obtaining various beast cores from the monsters they killed, people would often be at a loss on where to sell these beast cores. And while these beast cores were useful in the manufacture of different products, without a specified market, things were really hectic. And so, the Doorfables association took it upon themselves to come up with a list of cores and their relative prices. They even developed missions where they would award people different prices for going to the forest to obtain beast cores from different types of beasts. While this explanation may have made it sound like all kinds of beasts were violent and brutal, that is not precisely the case, there are quite a number of them that are rather peaceful. Some even left the forest to live among the humans. Some as pets, others as free individuals. Just as Dusk stopped focusing on the inanimate waves, he felt his mother¡¯s chest right in front of him. These days he spent a lot of his time seated on his mother¡¯s lap as he wanted to get even closer to her. One only has one mother after all. ¡..Okay, maybe two every now and then but that¡¯s not the point here. The point was that Dusk really loved his mum and wanted to make himself closer to her. Feeling his mother in front of him, Dusk immediately hugged her stomach tightly. Tightly for a baby that is. As he felt her warmth seep into him, he could hear a soft chuckle before his mother began to pat him lovingly on the head. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it. Feeling his mother¡¯s loving pat, Dusk could not help but purr out unconsciously, making his mother shriek excitedly before she dropped all the work that she was doing and held him up with her two hands. Feeling quite comfortable in his mothers arms, Dusk could not help but let out a loving ¡°mama.¡± The moment he said that word, he was pretty sure that he felt his mother¡¯s temperature rise for a bit before she started speaking ¡°Dusk, my baby you¡¯re just so cute. You¡¯re making mama want to gobble you up. If you keep calling me in such a cute manner, you¡¯re going to make mama want to keep you with her for the rest of her life.¡± When his mother was saying some quite disturbing things, you could tell that she was extremely happy. Her gloomy temperament from a few days ago had disappeared so completely that were you to compare the two people¡¯s temperament, you would not believe that they are the same person. The current her was more of a well of smiles as opposed to a pond of tears that she was a few days ago. And for that, Dusk felt extremely happy. His mom¡¯s happiness was his happiness. Just as Dusk was still feeling bliss over his mother¡¯s change in demeanor, the door burst open and two individuals walked in. One with the body of a fifteen-sixteen year old, and the other with a body of a nineteen-twenty year old lady. While the taller one was quiet, the shorter one sure liked to talk. From the moment she burst into the door, no, from the moment she entered the palace, she had been talking endlessly. Even though Dusk was already aware of their presence from the moment they entered his range, he just chose to ignore them until they arrived. Dusk was sure that his mother had also noticed their presence, after all, she was a damn S rank, how could she not know when her two daughters arrived home. That¡¯s right, these two were Dusk¡¯s elder sisters, Sunny and Seria. As Dusk had been informed of their anticipated arrival by his mother, he was not really surprised by their presence. What he was instead surprised about was how much Sunny could talk. ¡°Damn, I knew I should have expected this but these are just not things that you are taught how to react to.¡± He thought to himself. ¡°Aaaw, how cute, is this our baby bro? Is this him? He¡¯s so cute. I¡¯ve always wanted a baby brother, can I keep him? Can I keep him? Pleeeease?¡± Before he could even conclude his musings, Dusk heard Sunny¡¯s excited voice before a pair of hands that were not his mother¡¯s (most probably Sunny¡¯s) pulled him to herself and started hugging him furiously. It was as though he was about to be stolen from her. Just before he almost ran out of breath, a different pair of hands, Seria¡¯s, picked him from sunny and held him gently towards her ample bossom. ¡°Sunny, I know that baby bro is really cute, but what would you have done had you broken him?¡± Seria¡¯s voice sounded out before she began to jokingly throw him up and down. ¡°Sorry big sis, but it¡¯s not fair, you¡¯re doing it too. Give cute baby bro to me, I want to hug him too.¡± Sunny retorted. ¡°Damn, what is this feeling of helplessness, I feel like I¡¯m being handled like a toy. Damn you, you helpless baby body.¡± Dusk thought to himself as he was still being thrown around by Seria who was muttering weird things like ¡°Hoho, what a cute toy, I¡¯ll enjoy myself with you baby bro.¡± ¡°Take me back to mommy, mommy is the only one that treats me gently. Mommy come save me¡± was all that Dusk could think about while he was still in Seria¡¯s care. While he was really happy that his sisters loved him, he was not sure whether his frail body could hold on much longer. ¡°Seria, give me the baby, you¡¯re going to hurt him yourself.¡± His mother proclaimed. ¡°Thank you mommy, you¡¯re the best.¡± Dusk could only say internally with tears of appreciation in his eyes. ¡°But honestly though, mum, why does he look so different from all the other high humans I have ever met. Your letter had informed us that he is a bit different, but this, this is not something you see every day, or, ever!¡± ¡°I also don¡¯t know Seria, maybe it¡¯s a blessing or something? I just don¡¯t know. This is new for me too. It¡¯s really painful for me as a mother to not be able to understand my baby¡¯s condition.¡± His mother said almost at the brink of tears. ¡°It¡¯s okay mom, it¡¯s not your fault, at least you still take good care of him, right? So how else is he different? I can¡¯t imagine there being anything else but since you had sent us a letter only telling us that we have a baby brother and that he¡¯s a little different, it¡¯s best to get this over with now.¡± Seria stated ¡°Okay, he¡¯s ¡.erm, blind.¡± His mom responded in a dejected tone. ¡°Well that explains why he never opens his eyes. Mmh, but on a serious note though, it¡¯s gonna make his life a little bit difficult, that one. Well it¡¯s no worries though, since we can¡¯t solve that problem, all that we three can do for him as a family is to love and support him. Okay sunny?¡± ¡°Okay big sis, just leave small brother to me.¡± During this whole mother-daughter conversation, Sunny had surprisingly been extremely silent. It was only at the end when she was called for that she replied. It was as though this mother daughter confrontation often happened and she knew best to stay out of it. While they were still talking, Dusk had become engulfed in emotion because of something they had said. For these two people who he had only met for the first time today to vow to protect and take care of him, he could not help but thank the universe for giving him such a loving family. Chapter 6 Sunny¡¯s POV ¡°I¡¯m so excited big sis¡± You cannot believe how excited I am right now. Thinking of how I¡¯ll be able to meet my mom and my new small brother later today, I cannot help but smirk. Damn it! Why can¡¯t this damn horse move any faster? Ever since mom wrote us a letter informing us that we had a new small brother, I had always wanted to meet him. However, since both big sis and I were in the middle of our courses at school, we were unable to leave. It would be unfitting for us as the princesses to just leave school abruptly, after all. As the princesses of the kingdom we have to maintain some level of standard and set an image for the others to follow. Since we both couldn¡¯t leave, we decided to go all out and compress two years¡¯ worth of study into one. For that, we had completely dedicated ourselves to studying this year so that next year, we¡¯ll be able to spend some time at home. While what we did may not have been possible for other people, it was for us because big sis and I are smart. What? Even though I may act like this, I am a certified brainy, you know? And so, after having spent a whole year in school, in suspense of meeting my small brother, I am about to reach the end of my wits right now. Should someone just add a single day to this carriage ride, I¡¯m afraid I¡¯ll lose my mind. I already am. Why does this carriage have to move this slowly? Even big sis seems a bit restless. While she may act all cold and uncaring to others, I know that she loves and cherishes her family. It¡¯s just that she doesn¡¯t seem to like to show it. I even have a feeling that at the moment, big sis is even more anxious about me. Since we still have a few more hours on this carriage ride, the best I can do is to try and distract both big sis and myself by talking. The good thing is that, while I may not be confident in many things, I¡¯m confident in my ability to talk. I can talk for hours on end. Once we arrived at the palace, I immediately shot out of the carriage and walked to the house at a fast pace. I didn¡¯t run because I know that big sis doesn¡¯t like running and so she wouldn¡¯t be able to follow behind me if I began to run. The moment I opened the door to mom¡¯s office, I was surprised by what I saw inside. I could tell that big sis was surprised too, because for a moment, her breathing hastened. But that was totally understandable, the sight before us was just too peculiar. In front of us was our mother, the queen of the kingdom, hugging a white haired doll? Come on mom, I know that you can be emotional sometimes and that you easily get lonely, but still, that¡¯s no reason for the esteemed queen to play with a doll. Still, this is pretty weird, I can¡¯t see small bro anywhere. Mom would obviously not leave him alone so that she could play with a doll, would she? ¡°Mama.¡± Before, I could even finish compiling my thoughts, I heard a voice from the¡.doll? This voice was so cute and lovable that it sounded out of this world. The voice was so tranquil and was spoken in a loving tone. Haha, come on brain, stop playing tricks on me like that, dolls can¡¯t talk. Whew, must be the fatigue kicking in. Gotta go lay down after I meet small bro. Unfortunately, when I looked to my right, I could see that big sis had a shocked expression on her face. So she had heard the voice as well, huh? Well, mom had said that small bro does look a bit different, I guess it won¡¯t hurt to confirm. ¡°Come on brain, look what you¡¯ve led me to, making me think of a doll as my small brother. I¡¯ll get you for this one day.¡± I could only sigh tiresomely in my mind. It had indeed been a long day. All my fatigue, however, was blown away the moment I picked up the doll from my mom¡¯s embrace and turned it towards me. The thing that surprised me most was neither its shoulder length white hair, its marble white skin nor the silver linings right beneath its right eye, it was the fact that this doll was warm and breathing. It couldn¡¯t be could it? While I was still there stuck in doubt, the affirming nod from my mom blew all those doubts away. ¡°Aaaw, how cute, is this our baby bro? Is this him? He¡¯s so cute. I¡¯ve always wanted a baby brother, can I keep him? Can I keep him? Pleeeease?¡± I just couldn¡¯t restrain myself from pulling the boy and hugging him tightly, he was just too cute. Anyone who could resist that kind of charm just wasn¡¯t human, or high human for that matter. Even big sis herself could not resist the charm as she immediately snatched small bro away from me and started playing with him while giving some very contradictory excuse from what she was doing herself. Read this novel on Royal Road. ¡°Sunny, I know that baby bro is really cute, but what would you have done had you broken him?¡± I tried to resist, but mom, seeming to have seen right through us, immediately ordered for the baby back. You could easily tell that small bro was happy to be back in mother¡¯s embrace. It makes me kind of sad that small bro doesn¡¯t like us that much. He didn¡¯t open his eyes even once to take a look at us. From what I came to learn from the conversation between big sis and mom, however, small bro is blind. While that explains a lot of questions, it also makes me kind of sad, both for him and for myself as his big sister. Well, no use worrying about something that we can¡¯t fix. All that I can do for him as his big sis is to help him experience fun times, shower him with love, and try to make his life as easy as possible. And back to Dusk After having spent one month with both his sisters, Dusk had come to verify that while Sunny¡¯s character was exactly as he had expected, Seria¡¯s was¡ different. In as much as she woud act all cold and indifferent during the day, at night she would come to his mother¡¯s room, steal him from his mother¡¯s embrace, and cuddle him in her bed till morning. While Dusk loved the warmth and comfort of her embrace, he was growing tired of the comedy routine that happened every morning these days. ¡°Seria, where¡¯s the baby?¡± ¡°In my bed.¡± ¡°How did he get there?¡± ¡°I have no idea mom. I think he sleep walked to my room. He has so much energy that one, hahaha.¡± ¡°Seria, stop messing around. Why would Dusk sleep walk to your room which is ten rooms away from here when he can just get into one of the closer rooms. He can¡¯t even see at all actually for that matter.¡± ¡°Haha, just goes to show you how much love can do. But don¡¯t blame him, it¡¯s not his fault that he loves this big sis too much, it¡¯s the fault of love, Love!¡± ¡°Hnggrh, fine, do what you want.¡± ¡°Thanks mom, love you.¡± Of late, Dusk had been made into a scape goat. It was especially effective since he couldn¡¯t defend himself. And although all throughout the month, he had been increasing the number of words that he could supposedly speak, they still weren¡¯t enough for self-defense. At the moment, he could make a four word sentence. Passable in minor communication, but still useless in self-defense. Apart from talking, he had also been making progress with his walking. In as much as he was the smartest person in the world, he was still inside a baby¡¯s body. And so he had to train its muscles if he wanted to be able to walk. He could now walk for almost ten metres without tumbling down. While that may not seem like much, it was a really big step for him as he estimated that within the next month, he would be able to walk completely. As pertaining to his training in E.M waves, due to the large number of distractions, and the fact that he actively spent time with his mother and sisters who liked to dote on him a lot, he had not made much progress. His range of influence had increased to a radius of roughly 3.1 kilometers. As for his study of inanimate waves, though he had not yet managed to decipher them, he could feel that he was approaching that point. Dusk had also been preparing a training manual for when the time came for him to him to start training his body. Dusk¡¯s aim was not really to become a buff dude with super budging muscles and a huge body, his aim was to make his body more fast, agile and nimble because there were many benefits that came with that. Those details, however, were for another day because today, Dusk was excited. Why was he excited? It was because, today, from what he had heard from his sisters¡¯ conversation, he would be taken outside the palace for the first time. While he had already mentally ¡®seen¡¯ what the city looks like, nothing beats experiencing it for yourself. Who knows, maybe he would get to encounter something interesting. chapter 7 Sorry guys, yesterday university life hit me like a b*tch so i was unable to post two chapters. Good thing is today i will be free so I will definitely deliver two chapters. Soo, here you go. Again, sorry guys. Dusk was quite excited to be leaving the house. As he was near a breakthrough in understanding the nature of inanimate waves, he felt that going outside would help him consolidate that understanding. At the moment, only Seria, Sunny and Dusk were standing outside the main door of the palace. Seria and Sunny, yes, Dusk, not so much. As Dusk could not walk on his own completely yet, he had to be carried by Seria. Dusk had wanted his mother to come with them, unfortunately, she was quite busy with office work so she was unable to attend. Surprisingly, before he noticed, Dusk had grown quite attached to his mom. Since it would draw a lot of attention if he went outside normally, Seria had dressed Dusk in a small hoodie. One that was able to cover all his hair and part of his face. As this society did not have to focus on food production, they had quite advanced in some areas such as clothing and housing. So it was not strange to see hoodies and many other types of clothes. The moment they left the palace grounds, Dusk was quite surprised to find out that it was quite silent. Even though he could use waves to detect presences, both animate and inanimate, he could not hear sound unless he was close to the place. I mean, his hearing may have been good, but it was not outright ungodly. Dusk, however, had a speculation as to why this place may have been quiet. This place was still within the one kilometer radius, the place where the building were pompous. Since he felt that the people that live here must be people of importance, this was most likely a high class neighborhood. And naturally, since most high class neighborhoods tend to be silent, it was not strange for this place to be too. As if sensing his curiosity, Seria began to give an explanation. Even though Sunny had been talking every once in a while throughout the trip, Seria had not spoken even once. ¡°Baby bro, this is where the high class people live, be it high ranking government officials, Doorfables members or anyone else, you could always find them here.¡± ¡°Well that answers that question.¡± Dusk thought to himself As soon as they walked through the inner circle for a while, they stepped out to the outer circle. The three of them did not need much protection because Seria was an A rank. Coupled with the fact that her mother was an S rank, a very difficult feat to achieve, very few people would try to get an upper hand on either of the three of them. As they approached the outer circle, Dusk continually heard voices growing louder and louder. By the time they actually entered the outer circle, Dusk was amazed at how different this place was from the inner city. This place was a hub of activity. There were people talking all over the place about different things, some were discussing business, others were talking about their houses¡ You couldn¡¯t miss a single subject of which was not being conversed. While Dusk noticed that most of the voices were female, he ignored it because he knew that this race tended to have rather few males. As they walked around, he was surprised to hear people selling magic swords, beast cores and the like. From his estimations, he assumed that that this outer city must be a mix between a residential area and a shopping district, which explained the bustle of activity. The more they walked around, the more Dusk had been feeling his understanding of inanimate waves increase, and right at this moment when he extended his small hand to youth a sword that a lady at a stall had been selling, he finally gained complete understanding. At this moment, Dusk could now differentiate between granite and obsidian even though two of them of the same size were put close together. At this time he was not like in the past where he could only differentiate a rock and a chair based on the shape, he could now differentiate the materials of each individual object. However, while he could differentiate between different materials, he could not alter the shape or structure of any materials. All he could do was see, not touch. After all, inanimate waves were just too haphazard in nature. He felt he would never be able to control them. While Dusk could control all the waves within his body, he assumed that the only waves he would be able to control outside his body during his lifetime were the long term memory waves. While he could understand the inanimate waves, he knew that was all he would be able to do. Understand but not control. The others (the short term memory waves, the world waves and the nerve waves), he knew he would be able to detect, but not able to control. And even if he managed to, that would be many years from now. He had been trying to reduce the speed by which these waves moved, however, no matter how much he tried, they never seemed to slow down. So his only option was to be able to detect them while not controlling them. While it may not sound to be of much benefit being only able to detect these waves, it was in fact very advantageous. By detecting the world waves, Dusk was able to see around him. This was what enabled him to see to his range of 3.1 Kilometers. Through the detection of short term waves he would be able to tell how strong someone¡¯s mind is. It was only natural that smarter people could think of more things at once. Hence the more short term memory brain waves one possesses at a particular time, the more likely, the smarter that person was. And through the nerve waves, Dusk could be able to detect the internal constitution of another living being. So in total, at the moment, even though Dusk could not see, within his range, he was able to view all living and non-living objects. While he could not accurately view the faces of living beings, he could view their body shape and read through their memories. While he could alter their memories, he could only add as much memories as the mind was able to support. When it came to deleting memories, he could only delete some, as after some point of deletion, the brain seemed to detect the interference and put itself on lock down by instinct. This story has been unlawfully obtained without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. Though the time it took him to read through someone¡¯s memories was only a few seconds, almost instantly, he could only read through one person¡¯s memories at a time. Hence if he wanted to read through the memories of say 100 people, he would need a few minutes. After walking through the outer circle for around three hours. Dusk had heard a lot of interesting conversations. While some were funny, others were boring, and others were just outright disturbing. There were always different people in the world after all. All in all, he had enjoyed this experience. During the tour of the outer circle, even though they knew that he could not see, both Seria and Sunny took it upon themselves to explain what different places were and what they specialized in. Some blacksmiths, others tailors shops. All in all, this place was diverse. At the moment, they were at the city gate, at the far edge of the city. Seria had suggested that they go outside the city gates for a short while so that Dusk could be able to experience the feeling. Naturally, Dusk had no qualms about this, as a matter of fact, he was all for it. He had sensed that outside these gates was a very vast grassland and naturally wanted to experience the feeling of being on a grassland for himself. Coming from modern earth where all the available space had been utilized for buildings and facilities, this was going to be new to him. Once they stepped into the grassland, Dusk was quite amazed. While he knew what to expect, nothing beat the real deal. This was the feeling he always craved. The feeling of freedom. He swore to himself that once he was able to walk perfectly on his own, one of these days, he would return here. After walking for about an hour through the grassland, just as they were about to return, Dusk sensed a surprisingly strong brainwave towards the end of his radar. This was the strongest brainwave he had sensed ever since he arrived onto this planet, even more so than his mother¡¯s and his sisters¡¯. However, while its brainwaves were strong, the creature itself had quite a surprising body. Its body was in the shape of a fox. Not a normal fox, but a fox the size of a small kitten, approximately five centimeters long. Surprisingly, while its body was about five centimeters long, its tail was at least triple that length. While Dusk had a speculation as to why such a strong feeling animal would be lying there in such a fragile condition, a quick peek at its memories confirmed his fears. While this creature had very few memories, it had the ones that count. Apparently, this creature was the daughter of a nature fox, a creature he knew from his mother¡¯s memories. While nature foxes were weak, they were rather smart. A full grown nature fox would most probably look like an ordinary fox, only with green fur and an approximate rank of D. This fox before him, however, was one that even his mother did not know about. Apparently, it seemed to be a mutant of the nature fox with pure white fur and a really long tail. From the fox¡¯s memories, its mother abandoned it once it saw its appearance. There is always discrimination wherever you go, I guess. It¡¯s quite sad. In as much as this fox had really strong brain waves, it was only a baby after all, so it naturally only had a rank of E. Dusk, feeling pity for the fox¡¯s situation and feeling the potential of its development, decided that he must acquire it as his partner and take care of it. For that, he set his master plan into motion. Even though it may make him seem suspicious later on, it was a totally worthy venture. And so, Dusk began to cry, he began to cry while pointing to the direction of the fox. Seria and Sunny, feeling perplexed seeing Dusk crying for the first time in his life, and for no reason at all, began to panic. ¡°Sunny, you¡¯re a baby expert, do you know why he¡¯s crying?¡± Seria asked. ¡°No, but we need to find a solution soon, otherwise once mom realizes that we made the baby bro that she loves so much cry, we¡¯ll be done for. She¡¯ll shred us into mincemeat and feed us to the pigeons for supper.¡± Sunny replied with an anxious look on her face. ¡°Yeah, mom can be quite scary at times. Well, baby bro seems to be pointing to that location, let¡¯s go check it out.¡± So they started walking towards the location that Dusk was pointing. The closer they got, the more relaxed they became because as they neared the location of the fox, Dusk¡¯s cry seemed to reduce. Once he stopped crying completely, Seria and Sunny stopped as well. Looking down to see a rather peculiar fox, Seria and Sunny were quite surprised. ¡°What animal is this?¡± Sunny asked. ¡°You tell me. But it seems like this is what baby bro wants.¡± Seria answered. She said that because, for the whole length of their conversation, Dusk had been stretching out his hands trying to grab the fox. Unfortunately, he was just too weak to get out of Seria¡¯s embrace. Sunny picked up the small fox carefully and handed it to Dusk. Since this fox was extremely light, even Dusk was able to carry it. Once he received the fox, Dusk seemed to be content and immediately stopped his movement. And so, a lady carrying a baby who was carrying a fox and another lady, started their journey back home. Not one saying a word to the other. Throughout the journey home, Dusk hadn¡¯t been concentrating on his sisters, he had been trying to think up a name of what he would name this little fox, his new companion. Chapter 8 It had been two months since Dusk and his sisters went out. When they returned, the first time his mother saw the little fox, she had been quite surprised. However, when Sunny explained to her how they had come to meet the fox, she became even more so. After all, how could Dusk, who could not see, have known of the fox¡¯s location? That wasn¡¯t even the half of it. What surprised her more was that the fox was quite far, even if it was someone that could see, they would not have been able to detect its presence Yet their baby, a boy who was not even two years old had detected it! While Jade had tried a couple of times to get some information out of her son, she had failed miserably as every time she asked, Dusk played the fool. He knew that he would one day have to explain some of his abilities to his family. That day was, however, not today. And so every time his mom asked him about it, Dusk pretended to be clueless. One thing became certain in the minds of Jade and her daughters though. That their son and baby brother was special. While his looks may have already been a straight give away, this recent ordeal was similar to pulling the last straw. During these two months, Dusk had managed to be able to walk properly. Adding on to that, his detection range had increased to four kilometres. In as much as all of this really made Dusk happy, the thing that made him happiest was that he had now found the perfect name for his fox, Stream. While Dusk was really smart, he had a really poor naming sense. And so it took him quite a while for him to come up with the perfect name for his companion. Over the course of the two months. Since Dusk had spent a lot of time with Stream, and since she was really intelligent, she had began to view Dusk as her big brother. Dusk really enjoyed spending time with Stream. She was small, cute and her fur was really fluffy. From what Dusk had learnt from his mom¡¯s memories, beasts were usually born with their affinities. The reason for this was that beasts were more attuned to nature than the high humans, and so by the time they were born, their bodies had already attuned to their elements. Dusk had learnt from Stream¡¯s memories that she had an affinity for fire. While quite a common affinity, he knew that she were she to train it well, it would become her biggest asset. Fire had huge destructive power after all. Beasts, like high humans, were also able to increase their rank. However, while humans could only use one means, meditation, beasts could use two. The first was to naturally absorb mana from the surrounding. While this process was slow and subconscious, it was reliable as it meant that the longer a beast lived, the stronger it would be. The second means was by defeating another beast and absorbing their mana core. While this method was really dangerous, it produced instant results. For this reason, Dusk was conflicted as to what to do. He knew that by leaving Stream out in the open by herself she would have most likely never survived. However, by bringing her into the palace, he had restricted her growth and cursed her to a fate of being weak. This dilemma really ate at Dusk, he did not know what to do. Just as he was thinking about this, however, he came to a realization. Stream was smart, and since she was smart, she could do things that most other beasts probably couldn¡¯t. And so Dusk came up with a plan, he would transfer to her many memories. Memories of the human language, meditation, all the memories that he found useful. He would also transfer to her his feelings of affection for her. Her brain could handle it after all. The purpose of these memories was for Stream to be able to develop herself. And true to his expectations, on the second day, which was today, Dusk noticed that Stream had begun to meditate, something only possible to humans before. Moreover, since she was a beast, she was naturally attuned to nature, meaning that her speed of development once she started meditating was far faster than that of high humans. Recently. Dusk had begun to exercise his body. It was always good to have a healthy body after all. He, however, did it stealthily as he was always around either his sisters or his mother. While lying down on his back, he would lift his legs up and down. He would also do stretches and run around in a manner that seemed like he was just a normal baby playing. This of course surprised his family at first but they soon got over it. While it seemed simple from the outside, this was really taxing for him as it raised his stamina up a few notches. Giving him just what he needed at the moment, as he did not want to over exert his body in his later training. Of late, his sisters had been spending even more time with him. It seemed that they were quite worried that they only had approximately nine months before they returned to school. For this reason, Dusk made sure to make time for them amidst his training. While Dusk usually thought a lot, of late he had been thinking much more. He had two choices ahead of him. One was to live his life as a normal high human prince. While this life would be quite easy (he was a prince after all), it would not provide him with the adventure that he thrived as someone who had been in lockdown for most of his past life. The second option was to leave the high human society once he was old enough and go experience for himself what the world outside the forest was like. However, while this option would provide him with adventure, it was extremely dangerous. After all, no one that had entered the forest with the purpose of leaving the continent had ever returned. The beasts in there were just too dangerous. He wasn¡¯t even sure himself whether there was an end to the forest. After a long period of thought, Dusk had come to a conclusion that while living a nice and comfortable life confined to the Alatza continent sounded nice, it just did not appeal to him. Having experienced years of seclusion and inactivity in his previous life, he just did not want to utilise this life in the same manner. This time, he swore to himself that when he was old enough, he would leave the Alatza continent and go experience the world. For that reason, he needed to be strong. He did not know what type of danger awaited him but one thing he knew was that, provided he was strong, he would be able to get through all those tribulations and return to his family safely in the end. Find this and other great novels on the author''s preferred platform. Support original creators! As he loved his family and did not want to make them worry for him, he made sure to train his hardest. It was only when they saw that he was able to take care of himself that they would worry less. He also did not want to become so dependent on them that he would hamper their daily activities. Even though he was blind, he knew that he would make it big one day. For that reason, for the next months until his sisters returned to school, when he was not talking to them or his mother, he was training. The good thing is that he was able to control his nerves, so once he had determined his limits, he shut of his pain nerves and trained his body to its limit. Having done this many times throughout the year, by the time his sisters were returning to school, the state of his body had increased tremendously. His agility, speed, stamina and body coordination had all increased by an incredible amount. His sisters¡¯ send off to school had been really painful for him as he had grown really fond of them. It was then for the first time in this life that he cried genuinely out of emotion. By the time his sisters were leaving, his range of detection had increased to 10 kilometres. At this point he could cover the whole city. He was like the city¡¯s guardian angel. Only that he did nothing. At this point in time, he could feel that his hair had reached his waist in length. He did not bother to cut it as he rather liked it. His height was just that of a normal two year old. Stream, on the other hand had grown to a length of approximately ten centimetres. Her tail, concurrently, was still three times as long as her body. It seemed that that was a trait that would remain with her. Her growth in rank was similarly astounding. In just one year, she had grown from lower E rank to lower D rank, the rank of a full grown nature fox. This made even his mother surprised. Dusk and stream had grown so close that wherever he went, they went together. As Stream could understand the human tongue, Dusk found it simple to communicate with her, meaning that right now, they were like brother and sister. At this point in time he still slept in his mother¡¯s room. She still thought of him as a baby so she did not dare leave him alone. While he could speak, he rarely did so unless necessary. He had also never opened his eyes since the first time he did so. He found it to be a bother as it served no purpose. One day as Dusk was adventuring through his mother¡¯s room, he stumbled upon something that he was well aware of from his mother¡¯s memories, a pair of pressure bracelets. These bracelets were things made by Space element experts. The way they operated was such that they run mana through your body and analyse your current state. Using that, they exert pressure evenly throughout your body at its limit. With training, you can overcome the limit, upon which, the bracelet increases the pressure on your body to its limit once more for you to overcome. The good thing about this means of exercise was that it was both safe and it worked on the red muscles and not the while muscles. And so while you would be getting stronger, it would neither show on the outside nor would it stunt your growth. The bad thing was that, one, these bracelets were too damn expensive and rare. Even Dusk¡¯s mom only knew of two of them in existence. The other problem was that once you wore them, you would be unable to take them off until you surpassed your limit. The only other way to remove it was to break it, and since breaking such an expensive thing would be a waste, even the people who had such bracelets tended to avoid using them. Feeling the immensity of this bracelet¡¯s use, Dusk immediately went and asked his mother for the permission to wear them. While she refused at first, seeing the drooped expression on the face of the son that she loved so much, and seeing that there were no demerits to using them, she could only accept. Moreover, with this, maybe her son would get strong enough to defend himself once need be. And so, for the next year, Dusk only did two things, spend time with his mom, and train. He and Stream trained like hell. There was nothing else to do after all, and he had a goal to accomplish. With all the knowledge from earth, he had also combined the best aspects from all different martial arts to come up with the ultimate palm martial arts of which he had begun to train in since he clocked two years of age. (A.N: Think Neji from Naruto style of fighting). Of late he had just been training openly, right in front of his mother. After all, one day he let his mother find him doing the training so that he could explain to her that he had been having these dreams and visions. His mother only asked some questions worriedly when she found out before she said nothing more. She had already known that her son was special after all. This only seemed to emphasize that point. One thing that she told Dusk to promise her, however, was that apart from his sisters, he would never tell that information to anyone else. By the time Dusk became three years old, his body had become so nimble and strong, in fact, that he could lift up a 50 kg stone with both hands. At this time he had long white hair that reached below his knees, almost reaching the floor. While he was strong, he really didn¡¯t look it. Were one to describe him, their first words would be cute, meek and tranquil. His range had also increased to 21 kilometres as he had made it a point to train both his body and mind at the same time. Stream, too, had not slacked off in her training. By now, while she still looked small at only about fifteen centimetres in body length, her strength was no joke. She was right now just at upper D rank. Her advancement speed was indeed monstrous. At this point, Dusk had stayed with her so much in fact that he could now understand her perfectly. He had come to learn that her personality was that of a playful little sister, as often demonstrated by her actions. All in all, the progress was good. Dusk and Stream were quietly training one day, a few days after his third birthday when his mom came into the room and announced to Dusk that the Empress has called for all queens to meet at her palace. ¡°Ooh, this is going to be interesting.¡± Dusk thought with a smile on his face. Chapter 9 Hey guy''s , here''s today''s chapter. I would also really appreciate it if you guys reviewed and rated my fiction. Thanks There were two reasons as to why Dusk was really excited on this day. The first one was that, a few hours ago, he had just discovered that Stream had gained a new affinity. Her new affinity was , quite surprisingly, water. Even Dusk himself was quite surprised at his the unconscious foresight that he had when he gave her the name Stream.. Water in itself had two advantages. While fire was an agent of destruction, water was both an agent of attack and an agent of comfort. Water could both be used to nurture and heal injuries in its fluid form, and used to attack in both its fluid and ice form. The second reason as to why Dusk was really happy was that, just a few minutes earlier as he was sitting and meditating with Stream, his mother had come to inform them that tomorrow they would leave for the empress¡¯s palace. As all queens had been called to convene. Naturally, jade, as the queen of Empiria would need to attend too. Because she didn¡¯t feel at all comfortable leaving Dusk alone at home, and because it was allowed, she opted to bring Dusk along with her. Thus, Dusk naturally felt elated that he would be leaving the palace to go to a place he had never been before. While it may not seem like that much of an accomplishment, it indeed was. Why? Because while regular people knew of the existence of the empress, none of them knew where she lived. Only the queens of the different kingdoms were aware of where she resided. Thus, for Dusk, being able to go to the empress¡¯s palace even before adulthood was to be considered an achievement. Even though it was only by luck. That night before Dusk went to bed, he had to prepare for tomorrow¡¯s journey. For that reason, he wanted to set things straight. As Dusk had come to notice that he liked the color white, the complete opposite of what he saw whenever he opened his eyes, he asked his mother to prepare for him a set of white gowns. On most of these gowns, however, he had asked for silver linings. Although he could not see the colors themselves, he was able to observe the nature of the silver linings on the cloth as they were made from different materials from the rest of the white cloth. He quite liked the gowns with the linings as they matched his body perfectly. One other thing that he also asked for was a white bamboo cane around the size of ? his height. While he himself knew that he could see through his radar, others did not. Thus, it would be very weird for others if he, a blind boy, walked around as though he could see everything like the back of his palm. Discretion was always best. And so, on the next day, a white haired boy with hair long enough to reach his ankles was walking out of the palace while being led by his beautiful lady with one of her hands holding his own. On this boy¡¯s other hand was a white bamboo cane and on his body was a white gown traced with silver linings. On his shoulder was a white small fox whose long tail was wrapped around his neck in a manner similar to a scarf. The beautiful lady herself was also wearing a loose fitting female gown with her waist length hair was tied into a pony tail. She wore comfortable but elegant shoes and walked around with a grace that exuded motherly affection. These two were naturally Dusk and his mother. As this Journey would be quite a long distance, all the way from the center of the continent where the capital was located to the an island at the center of the great Espian lake where the Empress¡¯s residence was located at, they were prepared to travel for a long time and had naturally packed up quite a bit in their mother¡¯s interspatial ring (another invention of the esteemed space affinity experts). This journey was going to be rather long. For that reason, Dusk¡¯s mother had opted to use the one means of transportation that she always used whenever she went to the empress¡¯s place, her loyal wyvern. A wyvern was a creature that largely resembled a dragon but was not. This creature had been found and tamed by Dusk¡¯s mom the one time that she went to venture into the forest. Unlike dragons, while their strength was not up to much, their speed was the real deal. For this reason, jade had opted to use it as a means of transport. The wyvern¡¯s appearance was quite peculiar. It had a dragon¡¯s head, a long streamlined body (about 20 meters long), one pair of legs and two wings with a long wingspan. It looked just like the perfect creature specialized for flight. Considering the fact that the location of the empress¡¯s palace was a secret, the two of them made sure to go alone. And so, on the wyvern¡¯s wide back, Dusk was seated in Jade¡¯s embrace while Jade was seated on the wyvern¡¯s back. While Dusk could tell that his mother had grown really attached to him, he didn¡¯t really mind. He in fact enjoyed it as he always loved to feel his mother¡¯s affection. The other reason as to why Dusk was in his mother¡¯s embrace at the moment was so that she could shroud him in her mana. The purpose of this was to nullify the impact of the wind hitting at them as they were traveling at high speeds. ¡°Dusk, baby, I know that you¡¯re a really good boy but remember to behave yourself okay? The empress is a really important person, even more than mama. She is really strong too so you need to show her respect, okay?¡± His mother advised. ¡°Yes mama, Dusk will behave himself perfectly and will make people respect mama even more. Even if Dusk cannot see, he will try his best not to get in other people¡¯s way.¡± Dusk responded. He always liked to show his childish side when he was with his mother. Whenever he talked to her, he would always refer to himself in the third person. It was just a force of habit. ¡°Aah, my baby is such a good boy. I couldn¡¯t have asked for a better son. And remember, Dusk, while you¡¯re a little different from other people it¡¯s because your¡¯e special okay? So mama will make sure that no one teases my baby boy. You¡¯re my special little baby, okay?¡± ¡°Yes mom, Dusk understands and loves you very much.¡± Dusk replied. He just couldn¡¯t explain how much affection he felt for this mother of his who had taken care of him. He had, in fact, at some point just felt so guilty, that he decided to disclose to his mother that he could ¡®see¡¯, and how he could do it. While his mother didn¡¯t quite understand his explanation, she had been both surprised and happy. This, however, was a secret that was to be kept only within the family, without any one else knowing. ¡°Mama loves you too Dusk.¡± She replied in a happy affectionate voice. Throughout the journey that took eight days, they would often land in deserted places and set up camp whenever they wanted to sleep. The wyvern would always stretch its body around the camp in form of a fence so that it could rest too. As they were traveling, Stream, like the child she was, was incredibly restless. She would often ask ¡®are we there yet?¡¯ ¡®How long to go? I¡¯m so excited¡¯ in her cute fox language that only Dusk understood. And like always, apart from on the last day, she always got the same answer. Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon. While talking to stream, Dusk would often times look quite silly, however, since his mother knew what was going on, she often times let it pass, though a little sad that she was being left out. On the day that they arrived on the Empress¡¯s island, Dusk was, in all honesty, shocked. While he could understand why this place had not yet been discovered, it was after all only a small island on the enormous Espian lake, a place where no sane person would dare, or even be able to venture, he could not help but gasp internally at the splendor of this place. The island on which they landed was approximately twice the size of the Empiria capital. With Dusk¡¯s current range, he could detect the whole island and that they were currently flying above and that was what made him surprised. This island, even with all its magnitude, housed only approximately 40 people. Of those forty, he could tell that all of them were inside the palace that was located at the centre of this great island. From the clothes they were wearing, he could tell that some of them were either guards or maids. The others, he couldn¡¯t tell as they were wearing normal clothing. The palace itself was designed in such a manner that it was located amid a large pool of water at the center of the island. It was indeed quite strange. It was like a lake inside a lake, pretty weird. On that minor island within the minor lake was a large palace, almost 1.5times the size of their own. Around the building itself were beautiful flowers and gardens and on the other side of the minor lake was a tropical forest with tall trees and lively animals. This was indeed the stuff of legend. Once they landed on the small island, they were ushered in by two guards, one male and one female. While they both carried the demeanor of stoic soldiers, he could tell that, to the man, it came quite naturally while to the lady it had required multitudes of training. All in all, it was nice to finally meet a male person and be talked to personally. It raised a feeling of familiarity within him. The moment the two saw Dusk and his mother, you could tell that they were surprised as their breathing quickened for a moment. However, they weren¡¯t the Empress¡¯s guards for nothing as they almost instantly recovered their composure and ushered Dusk and his mother in. ¡°Welcome, Jade Moonlight, Queen of the Kingdom of Empiria. And I presume your¡.son?. You are the first of the six queens to arrive and so we will lead you to your place of rest as prepared by the empress. You can leave the wyvern in our care.¡± ¡°Thank you, we will leave the wyvern to you, feed it well. And yes, this is my son, Dusk Moonlight. No cause for worry though, as we will be sleeping in the same room, you can just lead us there together.¡± ¡°Yes Queen Jade.¡± The man answered. The room that they were lead to was in the inner chambers of the palace. Through his sense, Dusk had noticed that while the outer chamber of the palace was filled with guards and maids, the inner was not. It was almost empty. Apart from them, there were only four other presences, three ladies and one male. And so, at this moment, Dusk was being led hand in hand by his mother to the place that they would sleep for the night within the inner chambers. Not long after, they arrived at a fancy looking door with gold inscriptions. As soon as they arrived at this place, the two guards handed them the key, bowed, and left. Inside, the room looked all the more fancy. It had one big bed inside, a balcony that faced the flower garden, and most pompous of all, a jacuzzi looking mechanism. This room was just too fabulous. Since all three of them,Dusk, Jade and Stream, were all tired and had not slept well for a while, they immediately all bathed and went to sleep on the same bed. That night, Stream slept while being cuddled by Dusk, who slept while being cuddled by Jade. It was indeed a comfortable experience as they all slept like logs. From the time they arrived all till now, the time they woke up, they had not gone to greet the empress yet, thus they decided to do so now. After dressing themselves, with Stream coming to her normal position on Dusk¡¯s shoulder with her tail around his neck, and Dusk holding his walking stick in one hand, they left the room. Upon exiting the room, they met a twenty five year old looking lady with long curly hair, an ample bust, and a tight fitting elegant dress. The lady was holding the hand of a girl that was seemingly a miniature version of herself. While Dusk had already detected the lady, he presumed her to be minding her own business. He had the option of checking her memories, however, he found it uncourteous to do so to someone who he had no relation to. Unfortunately, while Dusk presumed the lady to just be minding her own business, it seemed that she had other plans because the moment Dusk and his mom left the room, she opened her mouth to speak. ¡°Hohoho, if it isn¡¯t Jade the baby and her pale blind midget.¡± The moment Dusk heard these words, he could feel the anger in his mother welling up. While he did not know where the lady knew either him or the fact that he was blind from, he was not quite surprised because she was a queen after all. If she didn¡¯t have the information, then who did. At this point, the anger in his mother had reached a climax. ¡°Queen Onaho Riketing, you dare insult this lady¡¯s precious son, are you looking for a fight?¡± His mother replied in fumes. Just as his mother was about to fire a spell towards her, Dusk tightened his grip on his mother¡¯s hand and spoke to calm her down. It would be a real problem if a fight broke out in the empress¡¯s palace and the one responsible for starting it was his mother. He wasn¡¯t even all that offended after all, and it would be best to let this slide. ¡°It¡¯s okay mom, just ignore her. Its best to not waste our energy for nothing¡± Dusk replied. He didn¡¯t know why, but Dusk could tell that as soon as he uttered those words, while his mother seemed to calm down, the other lady seemed to have taken on her anger. ¡°Ooh, this is going to be a problem.¡± Dusk thought to himself. Chapter 10 At this moment, Dusk was really surprised. While his small body still exuded a calm aura and his face was void of any expression, his mind was in chaos. Not only him, he could tell that his mother was confused too as she was wearing all her emotions on her sleeve. Who could blame her though? This was totally unexpected. Even for Dusk. Having seen his mother¡¯s memories, Dusk naturally knew of this lady Onaho Riketing, and the one thing that he could say with certainty about her was that she was one of the proudest people that he had ever seen. In as much as she was proud, however, she was never one to stir up trouble with others. Heck! She never even talked to his mum for what it¡¯s worth. And so, for her to go out of her way to come and specifically make trouble for them was something that Dusk could not understand. One thing that Dusk could understand, though, was that for whatever reason, this lady was currently extremely angry. At this point, she had let go of her daughter¡¯s hand and was rushing towards him and his mother with her hand curled up into a fist. It was pretty obvious that that fist was headed for his mother¡¯s face. Dusk had thought to read her memories so that he could at least find out what lead to this kind of situation, however, the current circumstances did not allow him to. The fist was approaching them at neck-breaking speeds. ¡°Lady Riketing, what do you think you¡¯re doing?¡± His mom asked in fury. Sadly, before she even finished, the fist was upon them. While his mother was extremely strong, she was rather poor at close combat. Her forte, as opposed to that of Onaho, was ranged fighting. So at this point, both him and her were in hot water. Dusk could tell with certainty that should that punch even graze him, he would be a goner. He was just about to raise his palm in a futile attempt to intercept the fist when a buff hand appeared before them in the blink of an eye. While Dusk had already detected the presence of another person within his range, he had not expected that the moment he would begin to raise his palm, this person would arrive at a speed so fast that it seemed almost impossible. ¡°Boom!¡± There was was immediately a loud noise as the sound of flesh colliding was heard. This sound was so loud that Dusk once again ascertained his hypothesis while swallowing a huge mound of saliva that should that fist have even touched him, he would be long dead. In his mind, these ladies contained some inhuman strength. Something he one day hoped to achieve and even surpass. Previously, although Dusk had known that this world had some freaks, meeting them still surprised him. While his mother was really strong herself, this person was on a whole other league. She had effortlessly stopped a punch from a middle S rank queen. Something that should the other high humans hear, they would fail to believe it. This new lady had a really tall body (a bit over two meters) and her hair was rather short almost five inches long. While her body was really well built and muscular, she still had a sort of feminine charm to her upon which were you to look at her, you would immediately tell that she was a lady. A really pretty one at that too. While Dusk was still thinking of this new lady¡¯s strength, she opened her mouth to speak in a rather disappointed voice. ¡°Lady Riketing, what the hell are you doing? Is this how the queen of Latzuna Kingdom is to act? Are you so low as to raise your hand against a child? Mmph, I have been watching this ordeal and the behavior you have displayed today has disgusted me. Please leave to the Empress¡¯s quarters, we shall follow behind you.¡± As the lady said that, you could tell that she was honestly pissed off. The mere domineering nature of her voice simply amplified the meaning behind her words. ¡°Nkt.¡± Just as Dusk had expected, Onaho simply clicked her tongue and left. In as much as she was really strong at the middle S rank, she knew better than to pick a fight with Queen Barbra Barbos who was at the upper S rank. Just one rank below the empress. That¡¯s right, the lady that had just stepped in was Barbra Barbos, queen of the Domica Kingdom. While she may not look it, she was an extremely capable queen. Especially considering the fact that she was at the upper S rank. Although Dusk could not see through her rank himself, firstly because he hadn¡¯t began to meditate and thus couldn¡¯t sense mana and secondly because he was too weak, he could still tell that she was really strong. His mom¡¯s memories further emphasized on that point as they had showed him that the last time that the two of them met, she was at the upper S rank. ¡°Thank you Queen Barbos, had you not interfered, I am afraid my spell would have sent her soul off to the yellow river. I am not so good at holding back when someone speaks of my precious son in such a manner. I don¡¯t know why she acted that way but she crossed the line today.¡± Jade said with a forced smile on her face. ¡°Hahahaha. Don¡¯t worry about it, it¡¯s nothing serious. I just felt as though she was in the wrong. Trying to harm such a cute baby, how could she? This is the cutest child I have ever seen. I¡¯m guessing that this is your son right?¡± Before Barbra even finished speaking, Dusk could already feel that he had been taken by the muscular lady into her embrace. While you would have expected it to be really uncomfortable, Dusk was really amazed at how comfortable it was. This lady carried him really gently. ¡°Yeah, that¡¯s my baby Dusk. He¡¯s three years old this year.¡± Jade answered. ¡°Why didn¡¯t you tell us that you had a son? And such a cute one too. I doubt whether the other queens even know about this. Why didn¡¯t you tell us?¡± ¡°Well¡..¡± Jade answered awkwardly. ¡°Haha, its fine. No need to worry about it. I bet you just forgot. And he¡¯s a boy too, you¡¯re so lucky. You said he¡¯s three, right? He must be as old as Queen Riketing¡¯s youngest daughter Janelle, what a concidence. Just one thing though, why does he look this different? I¡¯ve never seen anyone with this kind of hair or even those markings. Even this fox on his neck, everything about him is just so peculiar. Wow, this child is so pretty that I may just steal him one day.¡± Even before Jade could finish answering, Barbra had already started talking. And boy could she talk. The moment she finished speaking and looked towards Jade expecting an answer to her question, she saw the sad look on her face. Seeing such a look she could only guess that she too did not know the answer as to why her son was so different. She could only sigh and continue speaking. This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there. ¡°So why does he have this bamboo cane? Is it that he can¡¯t see?¡± Barbra asked. ¡°Yeah, he can¡¯t.¡± Jade answered a bit sad. In as much as she had come to terms with the fact that her son couldn¡¯t see through his eyes but could still see nevertheless, she still felt sad for him. ¡°Ooh, sorry about that. Well, don¡¯t worry about it. Im sure that with you as his mom, he wont have to experience a hard day in his life. Okay, now that that¡¯s done, its time for me to tell you why I¡¯ve come here. As all the other queens have arrived and are currently at the Empress¡¯s headquarters, I had come to call you guys. You sure sleep a lot huh?¡± Barbra said while laughing and putting Dusk down. However, in as much as she was laughing, you could sense the pity in her voice. ¡°Oh, lets go then Queen Barbra. I didn¡¯t expect that we would be the first to arrive but the last to meet the empress.¡± Dusk¡¯s mother replied while holding Dusk¡¯s hand. When she finished speaking, she stood beside Barbra as they walked towards the Empress¡¯s chambers. On her right side was Dusk whose hand she was holding onto tightly. As they walked towards where the empress was, with Stream on his shoulder and her tail wrapped around his neck, Dusk was contemplating over the things that he had seen. Since Dusk never liked to be in the dark, as his mom was talking to Queen Barbra, he had decided to delve into Queen Onaho¡¯s memories so that he could at least find out what lead to her outburst of rage. While what he had found had not necessarily surprised him, it had left him disappointed. To think that such a high ranking species as the high humans would still be inclined to such barbaric emotions was something that Dusk found appalling. It seemed that it was na?ve of him to think that every high human would be as nice as his mother. Having delved into Queen Onaho¡¯s memories, Dusk naturally found out why the lady acted that way. Apparently, this lady, although always quiet, had always been harboring feelings of envy for is mother. Those feelings started when she heard that his mother had become the youngest person in history to be appointed queen and they continued to increase with every achievement that his mother obtained. Being a queen, however, Queen Onaho was able to hide those emotions pretty well. As she had come to feel inferior to Dusk¡¯s mom, Queen Onaho decided to do something that would at least raise her self confidence and placate her ego. She decided to beat Jade by getting a male son before her. And so, she began to work at it with the aim that should she be lucky enough to get a son before her adversary, she would feel less inferior and would at least have something to brag about. However, as fate is known to be one to love playing the lower hand, it just so happened that both Jade and Onaho got to be pregnant around the same time. What made it even more ironic was that on the day of the pregnany, Jade who had not really expected anything got a son while Onaho who had really wanted a son got a daughter. While she was quite mad when she came to learn that she had sired a daughter, Onaho still had her rage within acceptable limits. However, when she came to learn that Jade had sired a son and taken what she had wanted once more, she just could not hold it in anymore. Her rage seemed to burst forth so much so that by the time she went to bed that night, she had broken most of the furniture in her palace. The only thing that still kept her sane was the knowledge that Jade¡¯s son was defective (blind). With that thought in mind, she had managed to soothe her soul and calm her anger, however, when she met Jade today and saw how calm, handsome and smart her son was, all those feelings of anger came flooding back and she just could not control herself. While Dusk somewhat sympathized with this woman, he still found her to be foolish. Why would someone let herself be consumed by jealousy so much so that it got to the point of ruining her life. As Dusk was still thinking, he was brought back to reality by a soft sound from Stream only to notice that they had arrived in front of a heavily decorated normal sized door. At the moment, Barbra was pushing the door open. Inside the room was a round table with ten seats all around. This table was made of smoothened out obsidian like material and seemed to be very sturdy. Around the table, eight of the ten seats were occupied and Dusk presumed that the remaining two belonged to his mother and Barbra. Seated the farthest away from the door was a thirty year old looking lady in a business suit with neat looking shoulder length hair and really sharp eyes. Dusk naturally recognized this lady as the empress, the lady whose name no one knew. To her right were two similar looking ladies that had her sharp eyes and body shape and to her left was a tall and strong looking youth who somewhat resembled the empress too. In as much as Dusk had never seen these people before, even from his mom¡¯s memories, he was not stupid enough to not be able to join the dots and figure out that these were the empress¡¯s children. Seated to the right of the two empress¡¯s daughters was lady of medium height and huge bust in glasses. This lady wore a lab coat above her shirt and trouser and carried the aura of one who had dedicated her life to research. Dusk was able to recognize her as Fransisca Labardos, the queen of the Pratzali Kingdom. On the right side of the empress¡¯s son were seated three ladies, the closest one to him being Queen Onaho Riketing who was holding her daughter in her arms. Of the other two ladies, one was tall and slender with very long hair and an almost nonexistent bust. This lady, Night Everdark, queen of the Letendo Kingdom wore a long one-piece dress and carried about her an aura of mystery. To her side was a short childlike girl that wore a frilly dress, sandals and carried a fan with which she would fan herself every now and then. While she looked really immature, this girl was not to be underestimated as she was Modred Fribi, the queen of the Melona Kingdom. The moment Dusk, his mother and Barbra entered the room, before they could even bow towards the empress, Dusk heard inaudilbe gasps from all around except from Queen Onaho who simply clicked her tongue. However, as they had come to expect this, he and his mother simply offered a bow before proceeding to their seats. Chapter 11 Francisca Labardos POV I am really bored right now. We¡¯ve already been here for thirty minutes doing nothing. Nothing at all. It¡¯s really awkward just sitting here looking at each other in the eye. This is no romantic sketch, you know. What the hell are those two doing? To think that they would make the empress wait this long for them. Such arrogance. Aaagh. In as much I say the empress, Im the one who¡¯s really pissed right now. Why would they make me wait this long. I was just in the middle of my research when they called me to this damn meeting. Why would you do that to me? I want to go back. Just when my mana research was about to reach its climax. Damn you world, why did you do this to me. Haha, good thing there¡¯s gonna be a show in a few minutes. Im so excited to see how the empress will flame on them for being late. Hihi, this is going to be exciting. I can just imagine it. Ooh no Francisca, your true face is showing. Hold it down, hold it down. These people don¡¯t know about it. Let them continue to think that you¡¯re an angel. Haha, such na?ve people. To think that they would even think of trying to read into this great Francisca¡¯s mind. Well that¡¯s fine too, its not like they¡¯ll succeed anyway. ¡°Queen Onaho greets the empress. I am sorry for arriving late.¡± Ooh, so Onaho¡¯s arrived. It¡¯s a good thing that she¡¯s apologized but that¡¯s still not going to let her off. Let¡¯s see what the empress will do to her. Hihi, this is going to be really exciting. Go on empress, give it to her. Give it to her real straight. ¡°Welcome Queen Onaho, please sit down. That¡¯s a really lovely daughter by the way.¡± Haha, that¡¯s it empress, give it to her. Give it to¡¡.. Really empress? That¡¯s it? Damn it. And I expected a good show. Guess not everything¡¯s as exciting as research. Mmph. If its like this then I guess I¡¯ll just have to wait for the other two so that this damn meeting can start already. But still, that research on mana was taking me pretty well. I can¡¯t wait to get back to it. The way those mana particles danced seductively in my palm, haa so sweet. No! You¡¯re drooling again Fransisca, hold it down! Damn it, hold it down! You need to learn to control yourself girl. ¡°Krrr¡± Ooh, the door¡¯s creaking, it seems that they¡¯re here. It¡¯s about time. Ooh what¡¯s this? There are one, two¡three people and one fox. Wow that¡¯s new. ¡°Gasp¡± Wait a minute, that¡¯s a child right? And that on its shoulder that¡¯s a ¡.a fox? Wow, They both look really strange. Haha, such beautiful pieces of specime¡.. people. If I get them and observe them I wonder what I could find. In the many years that I have lived this is the strangest thing I have ever seen. Hoho, if I could just take them as specimen. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, but they wont accept, will they? Maybe I should steal them, haha. I could totally do that. Yep, that¡¯s what I¡¯ll do. I¡¯ll run to them in a hurry, snatch them and refuse to give them back. Haha, I¡¯m just so smart, who could think up such beautiful plan other than my brainy self. Damn it Fransisca, your face is slackening again. Hold it down damn it! Hold it down! You need to learn to control yourself. Okay, now that my plan is done, time to get to action. Back to Dusk As soon as they entered the room, Dusk could hear gasps from almost all the people in the room. While they were subtle enough that only he with his superhuman hearing would be able to hear, they were still there nonetheless. At the moment, it seemed like all the people in this room had been sitting down for a while waiting for them. It was pretty embarrassing to be the latest ones to arrive but as they were already late, there was nothing they could do about it. Just as they were about to bow to the empress, Dusk could detect a sudden movement within his range. Queen Fransisca Labardos was currently shooting towards them at a really fast speed. However, in as much as she was moving really fast, she was both hiding her aura and not emitting any hostility. As she was moving towards them, Dusk noticed that she had left herself extremely open. She was not even making minimal effort to protect any part of her body. Not only that, her face was rather slackening, almost as though she were highly intoxicated. ¡°Wow, this lady really needs some help.¡± Were the first thoughts on Dusk mind. Sadly, because of the stealthy and unexpected nature of approach, the other people in the room were slow to react. It was only by the time Dusk noticed that the lady was heading specifically towards him and she was really close too that the other people in the room cast their glances towards her. For some unknown reason, maybe because of her envy, once Onaho saw this scene, a sinister smile crept up on her face. She did not even bother to move. Not just her, even the other people in the room did not even bother to move. Apparently, they had grown accustomed to this lady¡¯s weird behaviour. They simply smiled while looking in Dusk¡¯s direction. Dusk, however, felt rather uncomfortable by this. He, after all did not know what this lady was planning to do. And so, just as Fransisca was about to touch him, without even raising his head or opening his eyes, Dusk simply raised his cane and pointed it towards the pressure point on Francisca¡¯s temple. The moment the cane came into contact with Fransisca¡¯s temple, it simply touched it lighly, without much force whatsoever. However, the moment the two came into contact, a noiseless thud could be heard as Fransisca¡¯s unconscious body fell on the ground followed by complete silence. This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author''s work. ¡°Wha¡ What the hell!¡± Once the other people in the room saw this, the smiles on their faces immediately disappeared as they could not help but release loud gasps. This was really unbelievable after all. How could a child who was merely at the C rank put down a queen who was one of the strongest people on this continent at the middle S rank. Not only that, the mere fact that he did it while keeping his eyes closed and seemingly without any effort made it even more unbelievable. In as much as they knew that Queen Francisca had left herself open for attack, that was still not enough to explain this turn of events. What made it even more dreamlike was that the child had simply bowed afterwards and walked with his mother to her seat as though nothing happened. This was simply too unbelievable. They could see that even the child¡¯s mother, Queen Jade had an unbelieving look on her face as she went forward to take her seat. In as much as Dusk had made it seem really effortless, only he knew how much effort it had taken. It seemed that he had really underestimated the power of S rank. It was common knowledge that as your mana grows so does your mental capacity. This enables you to make use of the mana in an efficient manner. While what Dusk had done required both physical and mental force, he had not expected the resilience of an S rank to be that much. Had he been on Earth, he was sure that for him to incapacitate a person by pressing their pressure point, he would merely need to apply physical pressure. However, when it came to this queen Fransisca, physical contact alone had not worked making him resort to the use of his mental faculties which required a lot of effort. In as much as it may have seemed that Dusk had expended no effort at all, he was really tired right now. He presumed that it would take him about a day of rest to get himself back to optimum condition. And all this was considering that Fransisca had left herself completely open and was in an intoxicated state of mind. Dusk presumed that should she have been in her right mind, he would have been unable to accomplish what he did at all. It was indeed never good to think too highly of yourself. And so at this moment as Dusk was walking with his mom to her seat, he was feeling really tired. He, however, did not show it as his body was still exuding an aura of tranquility. Just as he sat down on his mum¡¯s lap in the empty seat, Dusk could hear a stern voice. ¡°Queen Jade, is that young one your son?¡± The empress¡¯s voice sounded out. ¡°Yes Empress, this is my son, Dusk Moonlight. Is there a problem?¡± Jade answered. ¡°No, not a problem. Just that, could you please explain to us what your son did to Queen Fransisca? The things that have just happened are really hard to believe.¡± The empress said in a cautious tone. ¡°I¡¯m sorry empress but I don¡¯t know myself. My son¡¯s blind you know? So I doubt he even knows what he did himself, sorry.¡± Once his mother mentioned that Dusk was blind, other unbelieving gasps could be heard once again. However, as they thought about it, the other people in the room came to find that it made sense. They could see that he had not opened his eyes even once since he entered the room after all. ¡°But Queen Jade, if he can speak then could you ask him to explain to us what he did there?¡± The empress asked as she tried to mask the expectancy in her voice ¡°Dusk baby, what did you do?¡± Dusk¡¯s mom asked him. ¡°Sorry mommy, I don¡¯t know. Am I in trouble? Did Dusk do something bad?¡± Dusk answered. While he rather disliked acting this immature. It was the only way that he could get out of this. He was only three years after all and was also blind. Maybe if he acted this way, these people would think that Queen Fransisca¡¯s collapse was just a coincidence. A stroke of fortune maybe? Sadly for Dusk, these were queens. And for one to be a queen one need not be stupid. Meaning that they could easily see through his act. However, in as much as they could see, since they had no evidence there was nothing that they could say about him. It was just like chasing a fleeting dream. ¡°Well, I guess that¡¯s fine. Everyone has a few secrets after all.¡± The empress said in a resigned tone. ¡°But empress!¡± Queen Onaho tried to interject, however, before she could even finish, the empress had already cut her off. ¡°Enough! Queen Onaho, this may just have been a coincidence. Queen Fransisca is only unconcious after all. Do you want to tell me that someone of your strength can be so easily put down by a three year old child. Mmph.¡± As the empress said this, seeds of doubt began to bud in the hearts of the rest. This was exactly the response that Dusk was aiming for. While what he had done may have seemed stupid, especially considering that it would have easily let off the secret on his strength, Dusk had chosen this manner for a specific purpose. Once Dusk saw the lady rushing towards him, in as much as he did not know why she was doing so, he had already decided to use this opportunity. For that purpose, he incapacitated the queen in a seemingly effortless manner. By doing this, he had wanted to spark a debate on how strong his abilities were so that people would not think him useless. His aim was that by the time he left this place, he wanted others to know that he could be quite strong but for them to also be unsure on how strong he is. Something that he seemed to have achieved. ¡°Okay, now that everyone is here. Time to start this meeting.¡± The empress said calmly. chapter 12 Hi guys, here¡¯s the chapters. So I was just sitting and thought to myself, instead of giving you guys three chapters then two, why not give you all five at once. Bet you thought I had gone back on my promise. So here you go, five promised chapters. Sadly, from tomorrow, it will be down to one chapter a day. Well with that, enjoy! ¡°Okay, let¡¯s start the meeting... Mmh, before we do though, someone please wake her up. We cannot continue the meeting in such a manner¡± The empress said in a calm voice. In a much as her voice was calm, however, Dusk could detect a hidden displeasure to her tone. This lady¡¯s ability to hide emotion this well was something that Dusk admired greatly. Her ability was so good, in fact, that it was almost as good as his (someone who had had his emotions dulled and had the ability to control brain waves). ¡°Haha Empress, she¡¯s not waking up. This one¡¯s gonna be gone for a while. It was her fault for being weird though. She¡¯s a scientist but she thinks even less than me haha, how weird.¡± Said Barbra as she turned Francisca over and continued to shake her with her foot, all while bursting out in laughter. ¡°Sigh.¡± The empress could only sigh as she looked towards the two grown women. Even Dusk felt pity for her. For her to be burdened with the job of supervising such idiots must really take a toll on her. The only good thing was that she, as the empress, was really powerful and so she could use her strength as a means to get them to behave when needed. As Dusk observed all this, he was quite stunned to learn that out of all the people in the room, only one had not let out a single sound ever since he entered the room. Let alone speak; she hadn¡¯t even looked over since the time that Francisca collapsed. Back then she had merely opened her eyes for a short while and then returned to her own little world once more. While from the outside she looked the same, beneath those long bangs of her lay closed eyes. Dusk was only able to notice this fact as his method of seeing the ordinary one. At this moment this lady Night Everdark was just seated there with her eyes closed just like his. Were one to enter the room, she would be the last person that they would notice as she carried almost no presence. Something which dusk did not know whether he should take as a blessing or a curse. After he thought about it for a moment, however, he came to the conclusion that it was more of a blessing than it was a disadvantage. It was always better for one to be mysterious after all. That way your enemies will not know what to expect. Her air of mystery did indeed do her justice. In as much as not much was known about her, it was speculated that besides the empress, she, Queen Night Everdark was one of the strongest people in the empire at the upper S rank. Of course while most of those were just rumors of the masses, Dusk could confirm from his mother¡¯s memories that those rumors were, for a fact, true. For some reason, Dusk found this woman to be very pleasing. Maybe it was just the attraction of two individuals with similar temperament or maybe it was that he really liked her mysterious air. All in all, there was something about this lady that appealed to Dusk greatly. On the other side of the room, there was someone whose expressions had changed so much that Dusk was not sure whether her facial muscles were still functioning properly. Ever since he entered the room, Onaho had been adapting different facial expressions. First, when Dusk entered the room and was about to be pounced on, she was all smiles. Once Dusk put Francisca out, her expression first turned into that of confusion then anger. Later when the Queen shot her down, she had a certain expression that made her look as though she had been stepped on by three hundred wild beasts, it was really unsightly... And funny. Nonetheless, Dusk could not bother with her as the empress had already signaled the start of the meeting and was just about to announce the topic of discussion. While Dusk did not seem to be listening as he had his eyes closed and was seated on his mother¡¯s lap while resting his back on her stomach, he in fact was. As his mother gently run her slender fingers through his hair, Dusk paid his utmost attention in observing what was going on inside the room. He was smart enough to at least know that a meeting called for by the empress was bound to one of utmost importance. ¡°I know many of you are curious as to why... Ooh, Queen Francisca, you¡¯re up? Perfect. Have a seat. Next time don¡¯t just go sleeping on the meeting room¡¯s floor. Have some decency please.¡± The empress said in a matter of fact kind of manner. ¡°Huh, what happened?¡± Francisca asked once she sat up and looked around. ¡°Francisco, please, this meeting is really important so sit at your seat and keep quiet. I won¡¯t repeat myself.¡± Said the empress in her calm voice that carried the power to instill fear. This method of instilling fear just through words was something that Dusk was once again left in awe of. ¡°Ye.. Yes Empress, sorry I got a bit too greedy.¡± Francisca said in a stammer. Everyone knew of the Empress¡¯ wrath and so no one ever liked to irritate her. Before she sat down, however, Dusk could feel Francisca looking on him. The feeling that she gave off at first was that of confusion and later one of extreme greed. It was almost as though she wanted to steal him then cook him then eat him whole. ¡°Ooh no, what did I get myself into?¡± Dusk thought to himself. This time he honestly felt scared. That lady was just too creepy. ¡°Mmh, let¡¯s continue. Before we do though let me introduce these three people beside me, I am sure that while most of you have not met them, all of you know them. Well these are my two twin daughters and my son. I won¡¯t go into any further details as you will come to know them as time goes on.¡± The three people waved to everyone present and the empress continued speaking. You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story. ¡°Okay, as I was saying, I know that most of you are wondering why I have called you here considering that it has been more than ten years since the last time you were summoned. We¡¯ll, it¡¯s pretty simple really. See, I¡¯ve been thinking, while it¡¯s okay for me to stay here all the time in secrecy and manage the continent, I feel really bad that my children have to do the same too.¡± ¡°I mean, my kids are quite grown up and yet they have never interacted with children their age leading them to be quite naive. As they have always been at home being tutored, they have a rather narrow view of the world. It is so bad, in fact, that apart from a few things that they learnt from books, they are totally clueless of the outside world.¡± As the Empress said this, all three of her children had wry smiles on their faces. It was pretty clear that what she has just said had hit them right at the spot. Dusk could really empathize with the empress though. There was a true problem there. After all, how could a person lead a whole continent with just the information that they got through books? As it was pretty certain that the future empress would be one of the two daughters, especially considering their potential as the empress¡¯ daughters and the fact that this matriarchal society required a strong lady to lead them, how could the empress just allow her children to only be book smart? Even the empress herself by their age had gone out under a hidden identity and seen the world thus, coupled with her book knowledge, had been able to become the successful empress she is today. Considering how this conversation was going, Dusk could already pretty much guess what the empress wanted. And just as he had guessed, so did it come. ¡°I have been thinking for some time and I came to realize that my overprotective nature of them has lead them to become the way they are. For this reason, I called you over today to make a request which I would like all of you to think of not only as a personal favor for me but also something to develop the country¡¯s younger generation. I would like to build a place where not only my children will be able to gain social knowledge but also a place where the smartest children in the continent will be able to attain knowledge for free, an Imperial academy.¡± Once everyone heard this, most of them were left dumbfounded. For one, the cold and ever so serious and independent empress had made a personal request, and two; the request was to build a school. Not just any school, but an imperial school. This was a big deal why? Because while every Kingdom had an academy, those academies naturally only admitted students from the kingdom itself and very rarely did they admit students from the other kingdoms. With an imperial academy, however, there would be kids from all over continent learning at one school. This was just so surreal that it wasn¡¯t even funny anymore. Once the empress finished speaking, there was a stretch of silence before the childlike Queen Modred Fribi chided in ¡°But Empress, if we are going to make this academy as you say then it will obviously be for the young generation, how will your children who are obviously past that age attend?¡± Contrary to her appearance this lady was really mature. It was no wonder she was a queen. ¡°That¡¯s simple. As it is obvious that my children cannot be students at their age, they will naturally become teachers. They are well educated after all and this will enable them to only enable them to interact with fellow teachers as their peers but also with the students as members of the the younger generation.¡± Said the empress in her ever so calm manner. ¡°Haha, I see, that does make sense but how will we choose the students that will join the school. They will come from all over after all so this needs to be handled efficiently.¡± Asked Barbra. ¡°Good question. I had thought about this and I decided to make it so that the queen of each Kingdom chooses the best students and teachers in her country and sends them over. This will be beneficial as by the time the school is open it will be completely diverse.¡± Said the empress. ¡°Okay, so¡ uum empress if you don¡¯t mind me asking, which subjects will be taught at that academy?¡± Asked Francisca. She had become surprisingly meek since the empress chewed her out earlier. It was almost as though she had stepped on the tail of a sleeping tiger once and now had a traumatic experience. ¡°Francisca, your country¡¯s specialty is mana research right? Then naturally that will be taught too. Similar to Barbra¡¯s kingdom¡¯s specialty in combat studies, the academy will teach aspects from all different kingdoms to its students.¡± Said the empress. She didn¡¯t pay any mind to Francisca¡¯s change in attitude, as she knew that it was all a farce. She was quite certain that as soon as the meeting ended, Francisca would revert back to her usual disturbing self. ¡°I know what the next question already is. You want to know when the academy will be opened right? It will be opened in one years¡¯ time. While the earth affinity mages can complete the necessary infrastructural work before that one year ends, the rest of the time will be used to prepare the teachers and the rest of the resources.¡± Continued the empress. Once the empress spoke to this point, very few people had any questions left. Even for those who did, they knew that they would obtain answers soon enough so they did not bother asking. Even though she tried her best not to show it, everybody could see how anxious the empress was about this matter and thus they tried their best to not make it any harder for her. chapter 13 Once the empress finished saying what she was saying, she asked for a vote on who of the queens was up for the idea of founding a new academy. This question was, of course, just a form of courtesy as there was no one that could refute. In as much as the empress had instigated this request for a more or less selfish reason, it was still a fact that this idea possessed more merits than it did demerits. And thus none of the queens could find any reason to shoot it down. This was especially true for Dusk, as the proposal of this idea had come at just the right time. He had, after all known for a long time that he would have to go to school. He was initially quite reluctant to do so because he knew that whatever he was going to be taught, he had already learned from his mom¡¯s memories. With the development of the imperial academy, however, everything would be different. After all, the imperial academy would incorporate knowledge from all the kingdoms, most of which he was sure his mother did not possess. While he had the option of learning from the memories of the people present, he did not really savor that idea, as it would be no fun. More so, he would be forced to learn of other people¡¯s pasts and experience all the emotions that they did (both good and bad), something that he did not wish to do. ¡°This is going to be really interesting.¡± Dusk could not help but smile to himself. After coming to this world, while Dusk had at first really enjoyed the feeling of knowing almost everything, after a while it became rather boring. What was the fun in knowing everything after all? Thus the only thing Dusk could find interest in was the pursuit of strength. Unfortunately, with only the pursuit of strength he still felt that there was something missing. It was only when he came to learn something new that he really felt alive. Thus he came to crave the feeling of learning new things in the manner in which a stranded man would crave water. Within him was birthed the thirst for adventure, the will to go out and discover new things. If possible he even wanted to learn everything this world had to offer, and what better a place to start than the imperial academy. A place where geniuses from all over the continent gathered. Throughout this whole meeting, Dusk had noticed that Queen Onaho had been keeping an eye on him and his mom with a really disturbing look on her face. It was just so blatant that even Stream seemed to have noticed it as she occasionally turned her head in Onaho¡¯s direction. ¡°Can jealousy really do this to someone?¡± Dusk thought to himself. The state this lady was in was really pitiful. In as much as it was pitiful to look at, however, Dusk could just not get himself to sympathize with this her. She had, after all fallen into such a state for a really stupid reason. Even if he were to sympathize with her, how would that help the situation? One thing that really caught his interest though was that, unlike Onaho, her daughter did not seem to be even mildly interested in he and his mother. Let alone them, she did not seem to be even a bit interested in anything that was going on in the room. It was almost as if she had detached herself from reality. The more Dusk observed her, the more a weird feeling developed within him. He did not know what it was but he had a feeling that this girl had a somewhat sad past. His knowledge from earth only seemed to further his suspicions as from what he knew, it was not normal for children of her age to behave in such a manner. Only those with really special circumstances would tend to do so. Feeling his curiosity get the better of him, Dusk could not help but delve into her memories to see what it was that made her temperament become like so. Sadly, what he had discovered was pretty close to what he had anticipated. The one feeling that was most prevalent in him once he finished scouring through her memories was one of not being wanted. Throughout his life, this was the first time he felt this feeling in such a magnitude. Were he not in utmost control of his emotions, he would have burst out crying. The past that he saw from this little girl was one of rejection. Ever since she was born, no one had wanted her; no one had paid any attention to her. While you would have expected the mother of such a beautiful little girl to cherish her, her mother did not. Once Queen Onaho gave birth to Janelle, her daughter, she had at first been really troubled that instead of getting a son she had gotten a daughter. As she did not know where to vent her anger, she decided to inflict serious damages to the house¡¯s furniture. Only by destroying almost all the furniture in the house was she able to cool down. Unfortunately, after cooling down, she came to her senses and decided to not bother with Janelle anymore and thus she only left her with the maids for them to raise. As she rarely visited her ever since then, Janelle had grown up to think that she was not loved. She had come upon the conclusion that she was not wanted and thus wherever she went; she decided to keep quiet and act detached so as to avoid bothering anyone. In as much as dusk had had his emotions dulled, even he could not just ignore such a plight. It was also a bit of his fault after all that this was happening. Unfortunately, at the moment there was nothing that he could do thus he decided to patiently wait for two more years, for the time that they would both awaken their affinities and begin attending the imperial academy. Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings. Once he was there, Dusk swore to himself that he would do his utmost to keep her company. It was, after all, because of her mother¡¯s demeanor that the girl had fallen to such a state. Nothing of what was happening was her fault. Once Dusk came to this conclusion he felt much more relaxed and could now sit back calmly and follow the proceedings. As the construction of the Imperial academy had already been decided, the meeting was pretty much coming to an end. To Dusk, it was pretty weird to have such a short meeting where not even everyone had had the chance to speak. However, in as much as it was short, it was also effective and thus dusk admired it for that. Just as he had expected, the Empress really did have nothing else to add and simply posed a question. ¡°Does anyone else have anything to add?¡± ¡°Empress, so will anyone be allowed to attend this school?¡± Jade asked. Surprisingly, when it came to matters that did not involve Dusk directly she was clearly really level headed, a fact that pleased Dusk greatly. ¡°Good question. Yes anyone can attend the school provided she/he is among the best of the kingdom. As for the tuition fees, there will be none. After all, we want to encourage a spirit of equality within the school.¡± Said the empress. It really did seem as though she had thought this all out. ¡°And what if us as queens decided to not send the best of their younger generation?¡± Jade asked once more. This was a really good question, after all the queens could decide to just throw caution to the wind and send over ordinary students. ¡°That will lead to your own kingdom¡¯s peril, after all I have planned for the curriculum to be really intense and so those students that are not up to the mark will just lose themselves and end up useless. Also the strength of your students will determine the ranking of your kingdom, as there will be various competitions. So if you bring children that are not able to cope then your kingdom will naturally tail behind the rest.¡± Once everyone in the room heard this, they naturally threw away all prior ideas of sending mediocre students over. While they as queens did not really care for such things as ranking, this was something that involved their honor as a kingdom and as such they could not just let it slide. To be the last among all the kingdoms would be a real shame to each one of them. All apart from Night Everdark, of course. No one ever knew what she was thinking and thus they could not put themselves in her shoes to determine her stand in the matter. Once the empress completed her speech she was pretty certain that no one else had any other questions and as such she could only declare the meeting completed. ¡°With this, the meeting has come to a conclusion. You may stay at this palace for as long as you like before returning to your respective kingdoms. I thank you all for attending.¡± Said the empress. As soon as those words left her mouth, she stood up and left through the front door with her three children following behind her in tow. This sight was really similar to a mother duck leading her ducklings making Dusk chuckle a little internally. While the empress was leaving, Dusk could feel the gazes of her daughters upon him. Those gazes contained an unhidden desire to come over and carry him away with them. ¡°What the hell is this? Why does everyone want to take me away? Do I really look that cute? Ooh no, this much attention is going to be a problem.¡± Dusk thought to himself. Before he could finish his contemplations, however, he noticed that Queen Night Everdark had shot a glance towards him. While the glance was swift and hidden, Dusk could naturally notice it and within that glance he could sense a minute amount of curiosity. As soon as she shot the glance, however, she did not wait and immediately followed closely behind the empress. With her leaving, there were now only five queens left in the room. All of who were looking at him. The only exception was Queen Onaho as she was intently glaring at his mum. The venomous glance in her gaze could not be hidden making even the other people in the room notice it. ¡°Queen Onaho, what¡¯s wrong? Have I maybe done something to offend you?¡± Jade asked in a confused tone. This was the question that everyone in the room was wondering about as they had long since noticed Onaho¡¯s fierce glare. ¡°Mmph.¡± The lady in question however could merely snicker before standing up to leave with he daughter in hand. As she walked off everyone¡¯s gazes were focused on her. She was behaving really peculiarly after all. chapter 14 As there was nothing that Jade could do about it she merely put it out of her mind and looked down towards Dusk while smiling. The moment she laid her eyes on him she could not help but smile even further. This cute son of hers was just the medicine that she needed. Over time she had grown to love him so much that whenever she looked at him all of her worries disappeared. While thinking this she could not help but hug Dusk affectionately. For all the other three queens who were watching this, this was really a test of their perseverance. After all, Jade had gained sole monopoly of the really cute boy and interesting specimen. Granted he was her son, but still¡ Through all of this, Dusk could tell that while Stream did not care much about other humans apart from him, she had come to gain a really deep seated affection for Jade. After all, Jade treated both of them as her children and thus Stream had come to view her as her mother too. Among all the three people left in the room, there was only one that Dusk had not had a personal interaction with and that was the mature childlike queen, Modred Fribi who, just as Dusk had expected, opened her mouth to speak. ¡°Uum, Queen Jade, if you don¡¯t mind me asking, may I please hold him? Uum, your son?¡± She asked in a rather embarrassed tone that, contrary to her usual demeanor, really fit her perfectly. ¡°Sure, why not?¡± Jade said with a smile on her face as she handed Dusk over. As Dusk did not have any reason to refute, he naturally did not object being carried by the short lady that was still seated. Once she got a hold of Dusk, Modred put him in on her lap and started to gently run her fingers through his hair. The same way a loving mother would do to her child. As she did so she kept muttering to herself ¡°I should really get myself a child. Maybe I¡¯ll be lucky enough to get one this cute.¡± Those words surprised Dusk a bit. After all, in as much as this lady looked really young, she was without a doubt older than his mom. For her to not have a single child by that age was something really queer. ¡°Is this really what happens in a society that has very few males?¡± Dusk thought to himself. While Dusk had already come to learn that this society was purely matriarchal, this fact really surprised him mostly because the culture in this world when it came to male female relations was just so different from how it was on earth. In this world, not every woman was obliged to get a child. There were just too few males after all. But when someone, say a queen for example, wanted to get a child, she would look for the strongest and most handsome male that she could find and mate with him. If she later came to develop feelings for the man then they would inadvertently stay together as a couple forcing the two to become faithful to only each other. However, as in most cases, once the queen got pregnant, the man would be on his way. It is for this reason that Dusk had never met his dad. This did not bother him much though as he really had no need for a father. All that his father would have done, his mom did even better. He did, however, know for a fact that his father was a handsome man at the peak of the middle S rank. Finding such an esteemed expert that was not a queen was as rare as finding qilin horns and phoenix feathers. Just as Dusk was thinking this, he heard a voice that he recognized that instantly made him shiver. This was the voice of Francisca, the really queer lady that Dusk had come to develop a fear of. At this moment he could feel that she was looking at him with her characteristic longing gaze. In as much as Dusk knew that this lady would do nothing to hurt him, he still felt rather uncomfortable under her gaze that was vastly different from the others¡¯. Dusk felt as though he were prey being looked down on by a predator. ¡°Queen Jade, may I please hold him?¡± Francisca asked. Almost as though his mother had detected his state of mind, she immediately answered back. ¡°I¡¯m sorry Queen Francisca but I just can¡¯t allow that.¡± all while maintaining the smile on her face. ¡°Aaw, and why is that?¡± Francisca asked with an expression on her face that fully conveyed that he was heartbroken. ¡°I¡¯m sorry but my son seems to be really afraid of you.¡± Jade answered with a forced smile on her face. Once Francisca heard that, contrary to expectation, her face blossomed into a really beautiful smile and she whispered to herself in a voice that only Dusk with his super hearing could hear. ¡°Aaw, so he¡¯s afraid of me. How cute! Makes me want him even more. Having prey that is hard to get makes it all the more thrilling! Well in as much as it makes me sad, guess I¡¯ll just have to back down this time. Wait for me my pretty specimen¡± She said as a dangerous gleam flashed through her eyes. Once Dusk heard that statement, he could not help but shudder. This lady was really scary. As soon as she finished talking to herself, Francisca stood up and bid farewell to the rest of the people in the room before leaving. Following behind her was Modred who reluctantly handed back Dusk before she too stood up and left. This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. At this time the only two adults left in the room were Barbra and Jade who were seated right next to each other. ¡°Haha, that son of yours sure is a lady killer isn¡¯t he? Making even old ladies like us lose their heads. Haha, I can only imagine what he will do to children his age.¡± Barbra said as she stifled out her laugh. It was true though, for her, a veteran of combat, a person who had been through many life and death battles to be infatuated by a child, one could only imagine how young and immature children would react. ¡°Haha, I guess you¡¯re right, he is quite cute.¡± Jade could only let out a dry laugh. Even she herself knew, for her to describe him as ¡®a bit cute¡¯ was a huge understatement. ¡°Okay well, it was really nice meeting you here Jade, hope you get to your kingdom safely.¡± Barbra said as she stood up and begun to walk away. ¡°Thanks, have a safe trip too.¡± Jade managed to respond just before Barbra left completely, leaving behind only Dusk, Jade and Stream in the room. As Stream was sleeping, Dusk and Jade were the only conscious people left in the room. ¡°Dusk, baby, you really made mama proud, you know that? Mommy is really happy to have you as a son.¡± Jade said as she hugged Dusk close to her. No matter how many times Dusk heard these words, he still felt warm every time his mother said them. ¡°Just one thing baby, how did you do that to Queen Francisca. Can you tell mommy please?¡± Jade asked in a loving voice that did nothing to conceal her affection coupled with a feeling of curiosity. ¡°Uum, mom, Dusk just applied a little pressure on her pressure point and made her faint.¡± Dusk answered knowing full well that his mother would most likely not understand. ¡°Pressure point? What¡¯s that? I¡¯ve never heard of it. You know what baby, never mind. Just keep doing what you¡¯re doing and mama will do her best to support you as you learn new things.¡± Said Jade. Dusk could feel that she was really sincere in her words and could not help but feel more thankful as he would not have asked for a better and more understanding mother than her. ¡°Also baby, in as much I would like us to stay here a bit longer, I am afraid that we cant. Your sisters are back from school and are waiting for us at home.¡± Jade said while a little excited. Dusk could tell that she really loved all her children dearly. Dusk was no different though. As it had been more than a year since he last saw his sisters, how could he not be excited to see them? They were, after all, really good sisters that anyone would be lucky to have. And so, as soon as his mother finished speaking, she stood up and left, heading directly for the place where her wyvern was kept while carrying Dusk carefully in her arms. At the place where the mounts were kept there was only one person. This person was a girl with white skin that was filled with freckles. In her hand was a bucket of meat and on her body was a brown overall. She carried the aura of someone that had lived rural all her life. As soon as she saw his mom, she offered a polite bow. ¡° Greetings Queen, would you like to depart?¡± she asked. Dusk could tell that this young lady was not even twenty, as she looked really young. ¡°Yes we would, please prepare the wyvern for us.¡± Jade said in a queenly manner. It was amazing how fast her temperament would change when she was not doting on Dusk. As a matter of fact, the change was so precise that one could call it an inborn skill. ¡°Yes Queen.¡± Said the young lady as she walked into the shed. When she came back out, she had the wyvern in tow. Once she delivered the wyvern she bowed and left. Not before directing a few hidden glances at Dusk, though. Once the wyvern was in sight, Jade did not waste any time as she immediately climbed atop its back and put Dusk on her lap while hugging him. Her attitude had reverted back into that of a doting mother. Similar to how they had come, the wyvern began walking and soon after, took flight. As they were leaving, Dusk did not fail to notice that they were the first to depart. Once they took flight, Dusk was overwhelmed once more by how beautiful this island was. It was indeed fit for the leader of a whole continent. It was only upon seeing such beauty of nature that Dusk noticed that in as much as he had seen it being performed in his mother¡¯s memories, he had never seen magic in real life. Feeling overwhelmed by curiosity, he could not stop himself from turning towards his mother and pleading with her. ¡°Mom, could you please show Dusk some magic?¡± Dusk was not really bothered by asking her, as he already knew that his mom knew that he could ¡®see¡¯. chapter 15 MThe moment Jade heard those words, the smile on her face spread so much that Dusk was afraid that her lips would get torn apart. He was pretty sure that she was, at this moment, thinking to herself ¡°Wohoo! This day has finally come! It is now my time to shine. Time to show this son of mine how cool his mother is!¡± While Dusk thought this to himself, he could not help but chuckle internally. ¡°Baby, pay attention now. Mommy¡¯s gonna show you some awesome magic.¡± Jade said as she puffed out her already existent chest making it seem even more exaggerated. It was a really funny sight. Once Stream heard those words, she too opened her eyes and looked towards Jade. It was pretty obvious that she was curious to see magic for her first time as well. Seeing this, Jade¡¯s smile widened even more to the point that her eyes had almost become slits. Under the watchful gazes of both Dusk and Stream, Jade raised her hands and adopted a serious expression. As soon as she did so, a stream of water could be seen circling around the wyvern in a circular manner. This stream continued to expand so much that by the time it was at its peak, it looked like all the water in a huge aquaworld was moving around the wyvern in a really incredible pattern. On the ground below too, the earth¡¯s surface was rising and falling, almost as though it were a wave. It was really a sight to behold. Seeing this, Dusk could not help but gape in admiration. Magic was truly a wondrous thing. ¡°Mom, this is so awesome, you¡¯re the best.¡± It really was, and Dusk could not help but say it. Just as he had expected, once his mother heard those words, she dispersed the magic and hugged Dusk tighter while kissing him all over. This mother of his was just too affectionate. ¡°How will she cope when I leave?¡± Dusk thought to himself. On the other hand, while Jade was all over him, Stream had a bewildered look on her cute little fox face. She turned to look at Dusk before exclaiming in her fox tongue ¡°Wow, your mom is so awesome! Magic is way too cool! Will I be able to do that one-day? I want to be able to do that! Wow!¡± Dusk could tell that this little fox was excited. While she was really hyperactive and always carried that spoiled little sister vibe. This was the first time that Dusk had heard Stream talk so much at once. He could tell that at once that a fire had been ignited in her. This will was the will to learn high-level magic, magic that could shake the heavens and put others to shame. Feeling her determination, Dusk could only gently pat her head while smiling to himself. This little sister of his sure was growing up. For the rest of the journey nothing eventful happened. There was little that could happen while they were in the sky after all. Thus by the evening of the eighth day, they were able to arrive in the same manner in which they departed. As soon as they entered the castle, Dusk could feel some hands pick him up and hold him close to her chest. Dusk had already anticipated this new presence and thus did not resist. After all this time, he had come to accept his fate as a toy that everyone would want to touch. This new presence did not bother him though as it was someone that he knew and loved, his sister Sunny. As soon as Sunny held him to herself, she looked at mom and greeted her. ¡°Wow Dusk, you¡¯ve grown so much since the last time we met. Big sis feels as though she has lost a lot by not seeing you growing up this past year.¡± Said Sunny as she held back the tears in her eyes. She seemed to be really happy to see her small brother and her mother after such a long time. ¡°Welcome back sis.¡± Dusk hugged her while saying so. ¡°Thanks little bro, I¡¯m glad to be home.¡± Said Sunny as she rubbed the tears off her eyes. Before she could finish speaking though, she looked towards Dusk in her arms with a look of surprise on her face. ¡°Wow little bro, I hadn¡¯t noticed but you¡¯re extremely light. It¡¯s almost as though you haven¡¯t increased a single gram since the last time we met. You¡¯re as light as a feather.¡± Said Sunny. Following her statement, only silence ensued and thus Sunny decided to let it go. As she was speaking, Dusk noticed Seria approaching. She had one of her rare smiles on her face. Once she came into view, Dusk smiled at her. When she arrived next to Sunny, Dusk stretched out her hands to hug her. A gesture which she firmly accepted as she carried Dusk over from Sunny¡¯s chest to her own and immediately kissed Dusk on the forehead while saying ¡°I missed you baby bro.¡± ¡°I missed you too sis.¡± Dusk replied. Seria then proceeded to greet Jade as the four of them walked into the house while chatting and catching up on recent things. Through all this, Seria was still carrying Dusk. The excitement after the reunion soon died down after some days. During these days, Jade had explained to Sunny and Seria all that had happened during the Empress¡¯s summon and all that had been decided to be set forth. While both Sunny and Seria found this information to be surreal at first, they soon came to accept the idea of an Imperial Academy as something that would bring way more merits that it would demerits This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there. Through this period, Dusk had also explained to Sunny and Seria that he could ¡®see¡¯ and also how he could do it, unfortunately, just like his mom, they were unable to understand it. In as much as they could not understand, however, they were really happy, as they knew this was something that was really beneficial for Dusk. Dusk also informed them all about Stream, this information was met with even more surprise than the last, as everyone knew that beasts were unable to meditate. For one to suddenly be able to just went against the confines of common sense. However, as Stream was Dusk¡¯s companion, they decided to take the opportunity as a blessing and promise to never disclose the information to outsiders. Once the days returned to normal, Dusk once again resumed his training. He was training his body, his martial arts and his E.M waves as he waited for his fifth birthday. Dusk forced himself to train even harder as he knew that once he clocked five years of age and discovered his affinities, he would have less time to train his body as his time would then need to be directed to both schoolwork and meditation. And so, on this day, Dusk was standing in the palace¡¯s quadrangle in a horse¡¯s stance. The pressure bracelets on his arms were exerting pressure throughout his body making drops of sweat fall off him every so often. Even as the pressure was building up, though, Dusk ignored it as he kept on shooting out palm after palm. While these palm strikes did not look at all harmful, one could even go as far as to say that they looked gentle, they in fact weren¡¯t. Every time Dusk shot out a palm, it would be accompanied by a low rumbling of the air around it upon which Dusk would then readjust his position and begin once again. Once he had done this for around five hours, Sunny would come to call him for a break. ¡°Baby bro, please come in and have a rest.¡± After the break, Dusk would go back to the quadrangle and begin running around it in circles. As the quadrangle itself was rather big, Dusk would ask his mother to use her earth magic to change its landscape every single day so that his body may be able to experience different terrains. Once Dusk finished running through the terrain for approximately five more hours, he would then sit down and recuperate. Throughout the whole exercise Dusk would be subconsciously training his E.M waves as he stretched them to the max. As he was training, Dusk came to notice that his sister Seria always sat at the edge of the quadrangle observing him. In her eyes were feelings of admiration and affection Over time as he noticed that she would do this everyday, Dusk became a bit worried for her. After all he would not feel nice if she wasted all of her time because of him and thus he decided to approach her. ¡°Big sis, you don¡¯t have to always stay here and watch me. Don¡¯t worry I¡¯m really careful and I wont hurt myself so you can just go and enjoy yourself.¡± Dusk said to her in a serious tone. He was honestly concerned for her. The response that he got from her, however, dispelled all his worries. ¡°Don¡¯t worry baby bro, I do this because I want to. There¡¯s nothing more fun to me than watching you grow up.¡± Said Seria with a smile on her face that was as bright as the morning sun. Once Dusk heard her words he could only sigh and continue onwards towards the bathroom. Even as he headed into the bathroom, Stream was still laying on his bed meditating. As she could not strengthen her body, Stream decided to increase her strength by meditating and once she started, she would not stop. Her diligence was just as high as that of Dusk. As soon as Dusk exited the shower, he decided to go to the main room of the palace where he spent time with his mother and sisters. He really enjoyed this time of day, as the members of his family were really fun people to be around. The moment he sat on his mother¡¯s lap and began to play with his sisters, all the fatigue that he had accumulated simply disappeared. This routine continued for a while until soon enough the announcement was made throughout the continent that a new imperial school had been founded and that only the best students in each kingdom would be chosen. While this caused uproar, as Dusk was just four years old and was ineligible to enter, he did not pay any mind to it. A few days after the announcement, came the sad day that Dusk knew would have to come, his sisters¡¯ departure to school. The farewell this time was even more painful for him than the previous one as having stayed for so long with his sisters, he had come to consider them second to his heart. Dusk almost proposed going with them but as he knew that it would be impossible and that his mother would be lonely all alone, he decided to hold himself back. As his sisters had gone, Dusk now dedicated more of his time to his mother. When he wasn¡¯t training, he was with her, telling her stories and teaching her new things. It was a really fun experience and it was in the same way that another year passed. chapter 16 Ps: I would really appreciate it if you guys rated and reviewed this fiction of mine. Thanks On this day, Dusk was seated on a mat on the floor of his bedroom; he was now five years old. Beside him was Stream who had really advanced over these past two years. The current her was 25 centimeters long and her strength had advanced all the way to the peak of the upper C rank. Her white fur was still as white as ever but had grown to become mere smooth and silky. Her tail, which was still three times longer than her body, had also become exceedingly soft and plushy. As for Dusk himself, he had really changed too. As of now, he was just a bit shorter than a regular five year old. His white hair, which had originally grown to reach his ankles, was still that long. On his arms were two white bangles, which were the pressure bracelets, and on his body was a white gown with silver linings. Within his right hand was a bamboo cane almost ? times as tall as himself and on his feet were white sandals. Coupled with his calm and serene aura, he looked like an immortal that had already obtained ascension. His abilities too had not been left behind as over the past two years he had managed to push the limit of his radar all the way to fifty kilometers. At the moment it was such that he would detect anything within a fifty-kilometer radius around him. His strength had increased a whole lot too. With his pressure bracelets on, he could carry a load of up to 300 kilograms. He estimated that with the bracelets off, he would be able to push this limit all the way to 600 kilograms. His palm martial arts had also already been practiced to perfection. Since he noticed that he would be walking around with a cane often, he decided to train himself on how to use the cane as a weapon. While it had not really been successful at first, towards the end of his fourth year, he had successfully managed to incorporate the cane into his palm martial arts making it seem like an extension of his body. On this day Dusk was really happy as it was finally the day that he would finally take off the pressure bracelets. Why would he take them off? Simple, it was in preparation for the awakening of his attribute. The previous night he had had a conversation with his mother about this very topic. ¡°Dusk, baby, I want to talk to you about something please come here?¡± Dusk heard his mother¡¯s voice from a different room. ¡°Yes mom, what is it? I¡¯m ready to listen.¡± Dusk replied. Over the years Dusk had grown up and thus in as much as he still acted a bit immature in front of his mom, he had long since stopped referring to himself in third person. ¡°What do you know about magic attributes?¡± Jade asked. ¡°I know a lot actually.¡± Dusk replied. ¡°Ooh, is that so? Well that makes things easier then. Since you already know all that then I guess there¡¯s nothing much to talk about. Just make sure you take those pressure bracelets off as soon as possible, it will be best if you experience the awakening while your body is in its optimum condition.¡± ¡°Yes mom.¡± Once Jade finished speaking, she walked over to Dusk, kissed him on the forehead and then lead him to bed where she tucked him in to sleep. Dusk really appreciated that advice and that was why he was here today, removing the pressure bracelets. As soon as both bracelets fell to the ground, Dusk felt so light that it was as though his body was weightless. This feeling was one of utter bliss. The reason Dusk decided to remove his bracelets at this moment was because he had a gnawing feeling within him that kept telling him that his day of awakening was going to be today. As he did not want to take any chances, he decided to get ready and wait. And so, at this moment, he was seating on the floor waiting for his epiphany. After waiting for an hour, he finally felt something. This was not a normal feeling. He felt as though he were floating in the air. Below him was vast grassland. On this grassland, animals were playing and the grass was swaying back and forth. The air here was really fresh and as it brushed up against his skin, Dusk felt really comfortable. This was a really beautiful sight to behold. Unfortunately before he was even able to fully appreciate the beauty of the land, the view in front of him changed into one where he was hovering above a volcano. Within the crater of this volcano, lava was bubbling and every once in a while some yellow gas would be released into the surroundings. The air in this place was so hot that Dusk¡¯s skin had become lobster red. This place was just too dangerous because once that yellow gas touches you even a little; your skin would be corroded. Fortunately, before Dusk was put into any mortal danger, he was transported into a new location. In this new location he was floating above a huge ocean. From where he was floating, Dusk could see that this ocean trailed on endlessly. Within this ocean, a being that resembled a flood dragon and a giant shark were battling. This scene was just so surreal. As Dusk noticed that the two species had not spotted him, he decided to keep on watching. As the battle played on, although the flood dragon had an upper hand at first due to its prowess in long distance fighting using its water bullets, once the giant shark caught up to it, it was left with little choice and was pushed into a corner. The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. The giant shark, being an expert in speed and close combat due to its sharp teeth, easily defeated the flood dragon. As Dusk watched this, his eyes almost popped out. In as much as the flood dragon was not the strongest of dragons, it was not the weakest either. For there to be a creature that could so easily defeat it was something that Dusk found unbelievable. If the place that he had just seen was a real one, then he did not want to be there, ever! Once the battle ended, Dusk was taken to many different places all in which he saw very wondrous things. There was a humongous desert, a forest with trees that were high enough to touch the sky, a sandy beach that went on endlessly. There was even a cave with no hint of light whatsoever. After Dusk went through all those things he finally found himself back in his room. While all that he had witnessed had really surprised him, he decided to ignore it because he could feel that within his body was something new. Once he focused his mind to see what it was, he was really surprised. He had surprisingly gained an affinity for space, an element that was so rarely acquired, it was barely seen even once every ten years. Just as he stood up and was about to run to his mother to inform her the good news, he was suddenly hit by a strong headache, and before he even could control himself, he found himself sprawled on the ground in pain. Before he could black out, however, Dusk could sense Stream on top of him trying to get him to respond with tears in her eyes. As soon as he blacked out, he found himself in a very familiar place; this place was the grassland where he had been before. This time, however, there was something different. While the last time he was floating in the air, this time he was seated on the ground. It was not that he wanted to sit; it was just that he could not move an inch. In front of him, cut off from the rest of the vast grassland was a small patch of land, almost one meter in diameter upon which no grass was growing. On this land, the only thing that existed was soil. As Dusk felt that there was a secret to be uncovered within this patch of land, he decided to stare at it and see what it would bring forth. After looking for almost seven days straight, he found that he could not turn his head away. After those seven days, what had appeared before him was a small sapling. This sapling looked so weak, in fact, that Dusk felt as though it could be overturned by a minor wind. However, as he was unable to move, he could only watch. Hours turned to days and days turned to months. Time continued to go forth as Dusk continued to look towards the sapling that had now grown into a short tree. As time continued to pass so did the tree continue to grow. After so long a time had passed that Dusk had already lost count of how many months, years, decades, centuries it had been, the tree finally stopped growing at a height of 500 meters.. Over the next months as the tree continued to stand firm once it had stopped growing, it started to shed leaves. It started with one, two, three; very soon all of the leaves had fallen off. Once all the leaves fell off, the tree itself started to decay. Year after year, it continued to decay and become smaller and smaller until one day, an eternity later when the last speck of the tree had disappeared, Dusk heard a voice in his head. As this voice had broke his eternal monotony, Dusk knew that he would forever remember the following words come rain come sunshine ¡°Observe the nature of life, feel the flow of time. Life is ephemeral time is eternal. Grasp time and you have grasped life¡± Once the last word played within Dusk¡¯s mind, he could feel himself regaining consciousness from an eternity of monotony. As soon as he came to, the first thing that he noticed was that he was on his mother¡¯s lap with Stream lying beside him. The second thing that he noticed was that in as much as all that time had passed in that world, in this world he felt that not even tem minutes had passed. This was really strange. Before he could even finish that train of thought, however, Dusk noticed that within him was the power of¡time? ¡°But how could this be? In mother¡¯s memories, they had not once mentioned the affinity of time.¡± Dusk thought to himself. However, once he thought about it again, he came to a realization. Affinities choose someone based on their state of mind at birth. As Dusk had been able to go against time and get born as a baby once more, he must have naturally instigated the powers of time. The more Dusk thought about it, the more it made sense. At this moment, he could not help but think back to the experience of that eternity. ¡°Then was that the awakening of the power of time? Wow, that was really something I would not like to go through again.¡± Dusk thought to himself. Now that he had managed to come to a conclusion, Dusk was able to put his mind at ease. Before he could even relax, however, he noticed something disturbing. As of now he could feel something on his forehead and this something was¡ the silver linings? To Dusks surprise, the silver linings that were once beneath his eye had disappeared and had now appeared around his head in a manner similar to a crown. This was really weird. Was it because of the awakening? Dusk asked himself. chapter 17 Fortunately for you guys, this chapter is kind of longer than the others. Unfortunately for you, it ends in a cliffhanger. Sorry. Ps: I would really appreciate it if you guys rated and reviewed my fiction. Thanks. The feeling that Dusk got from the crown-like markings on his head was that of familiarity. He did not know why but he felt that even though those markings had just emerged now, they felt as though they had always been with him, within his body, waiting for the day that they would emerge. Once Dusk focused on those linings, he felt as if he were feeling a part of his body that he had been with all through his life. While he did not know what purpose these linings served, he was certain that he would soon find out. Within his body, Dusk could also feel two things that had just been introduced recently; the affinities for space and time. These two things were what made him the happiest as, of these two elements, one was the most rare element in existence within this world and the other was one that had never once been seen since the conception of this world. While Dusk had already anticipated that he would be met by a pleasant surprise during his awakening, he never once expected a surprise of this magnitude. He had, after all, obtained two of the most primordial elements that constituted the universe. Feeling the existence of these two elements within him, Dusk could not help but smile. In as much as these two elements were not really individually suited for attack, they were, without a doubt, tremendously tyrannical. Just as Dusk was basking within this bliss, he noticed, to his displeasure, that he was once again losing a hold of his consciousness. The only factor that made him feel relief this time was that he did not feel any pain. It was just the same feeling as one had when he/she fell into a deep slumber, a feeling of relaxation. The moment Dusk¡¯s consciousness disappeared from within the material plane; he found that he had descended into a new plane. This place that he was currently in looked really baffling. Looking around, Dusk noticed that he was standing on the ground with his five year old body in its bare naked state. Around him in all directions, to his surprise, was the culmination of all the places that he had visited during the awakening of his space affinity. All around him there were tall mountains, an endless forest, a dark cave, a giant volcano, an endless ocean. The features were just too many and random for them to exist in a single place. It was almost as though this plane had been created with the sole purpose of defying the laws of nature. In front of such magnificent features, Dusk was like a single speck of sand in a massive desert, as trifling as a single blade of grass in a massive prairie. As he stood there, Dusk felt a feeling of helplessness similar to one he had never felt before. Iin this place, it was as if Dusk had no right to even exist. If this place really existed in the real world then Dusk was certain that it would be a number of years before he would be qualified to even look at such a heaven-defying place. All of this, however, was not even the most astounding thing about this situation. The thing that struck Dusk as the most peculiar was that throughout this whole ordeal, there had been a huge cloud above him shooting down lightning at regular increasing intervals. Were it only this then Dusk would have felt no sense of alarm. What made it weird, however, was that the lightning always seemed to fall on the same spot, Dusk¡¯s body. It was almost as though Dusk had committed a crime against the heavens and they were hell-bent on punishing him for his atrocities. Dusk had at first tried to dodge the lightning but once he noticed that he could not move an inch, he just let fate run its course and thus a lightning bolt fell from the sky at tremendous speed and landed on top of his head. As Dusk waited for the bolt with bated breath and closed eyes, he was surprised to find out that nothing was touching him. Feeling that something was off, Dusk could not help but open his eyes and look upwards. What met his sight was countless descending lightning bolts. To his surprise, however, once these lightning bolts came into contact with his skin they simply passed through and caused no damage to his body whatsoever. In as much as Dusk felt perplexed at the sight of this ordeal, the one thing that he felt more profoundly was relief. Relief that he was still alive, relief that his body had not been shredded to bits. As time continued to progress so did the number of lightning bolts that struck Dusk continue to increase. After four hours, the number of bolts that struck him at a single moment had increased so much that they were now close to twenty. The funny thing, though, was that of all these bolts, not a single one of them inflicted any amount of damage on Dusk. Once Dusk noticed this fact, he rid himself of all his worries and just stood there listlessly. As the number of lightning bolts continued to increase, Dusk continued to stand there without a single worry in the world. It was only after standing for two days within the zone of highest activity that Dusk finally felt a sense of impending danger. Directing his attention upwards, Dusk was only able to detect a single almost colorless bolt of lightning with the diameter of three meters before he lost control of all his mental functions. The moment the single bolt of surreal lightning landed on Dusk, the only thought within his mind was that of pain, immense pain. The pain was so immense; in fact, that Dusk felt as though someone was individually severing each and every single nerve fiber within his body. This type of pain was within a whole other level of existence. The moment this pain struck, the only thing that Dusk was able to get his brain to think of was pain. Fortunately, after a couple of seconds, but what seemed to be eternity for Dusk, the pain subsided leaving him with no bodily scars but a severe trauma in its place. That lightning bolt was without a doubt the most frightening thing that Dusk had ever experienced to this date. In as much the damage inflicted was not physical, the memory that remained was one that would last for a lifetime. Once the pain subsided, Dusk noticed that he was once more seated oh his mother¡¯s lap and there were numerous beads of sweat rolling down his face. He also did not fail to notice that within him was a new power, the power of lightning, a never before seen affinity. In as much as Dusk wanted to be jovial and celebrate the acquisition of such a powerful attribute, he just couldn¡¯t. The pain that he had just gone through was one that could shake one for a lifetime. Just remembering it made him shiver to his bones. Had it not been for the strong nature of his soul, Dusk speculated that it would have already shattered and dispersed by now. The only one thing that lead Dusk to feel a bit happy was that the lightning that he had experienced had tremendously strengthened his soul. It seems like it was indeed true that whatever doesn¡¯t kill you only makes you stronger. While this experience had been a really scarring one for Dusk, it had also lead him to think. Initially, Dusk had been wondering why not all elements of nature had been represented in this world. Take lightning for example, in as much as it was one of the true elements of nature, often seen within the world, it had never once been discovered as anyone¡¯s affinity. If Dusk were to categorize lightning, it would fall under the rare category, in the same bracket as space, because of its tyrannical attacking power. In as much as it was rare, however, there was no reason for it to have not been discovered as an affinity by at least a single person. Was what Dusk used to think. After today¡¯s encounter, however, Dusk had come to learn the reason why such things happen. It was simply because not all awakenings were friendly in nature. While they may all look the same from the outside, the things that the different children¡¯s¡¯ souls would be experiencing would be totally different. For this reason Dusk presumed that for such affinities as lightning, while there may have been people who had been lucky enough to acquire the affinity before, they were unfortunately unable to make it through the awakening as in most cases their souls were not strong enough and ended up getting shattered, leading to death of the person. In as much as death during awakening was rare, it was not something that had never happened after all. It was only that no one ever knew the reason for such occurrences and thus they were only taken to be coincidences. There were speculations but no concrete evidence. Now that the awakenings were over, Dusk could now let out a sigh of relief. While the second and third awakenings had caught him by surprise, Dusk was pretty sure that there were no more to come. It was just a gut feeling but Dusk felt confidence in it. Moreover, he did not want to go through any other awakening. The last two had left a serious toll on him. If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement. At this moment all that he wanted to do was sleep, and sleep he did. Without caring for the occurrences in the outside world, Dusk fell into a deep slumber within his mother¡¯s arms. This sleep, for Dusk, was the most enjoyable thing he had ever experienced. In both this life and the last. This feeling of just letting your worries go and throwing caution to the wind was something that Dusk would never forget. By the time Dusk woke up, the mental pressure that had previously been wearing down on him had subsided by a relative amount. Even the trauma that he had come to develop due to the lightning had reduced to the point that it would not hamper his daily life. Dusk speculated that due to the large magnitude of things within his brain, other things would soon overshadow the trauma and he would completely forget it. He was making an active effort to think of other things in place of the traumatic experience after all. When his consciousness emerged from slumber land, Dusk could feel his mom¡¯s arms around him, the same way they were when he fell asleep. Only that this time they were not seated but were in bed and Dusk was laying next to her. As his mother was still asleep, Dusk did not dare to wake her. He instead took this time to use his clear mind to run through what had happened yesterday. ¡°Okay, so as expected, my awakening did happen yesterday. Which is good. Fortunately, I was able to obtain some really precious affinities. In as much as that whole process almost caused me to turn clinically insane or even die, the gains were much better than the losses. For which I am thankful.¡± ¡°These affinities of mine are a bit problematic though. While space is okay because there are other people that have it (little as they are, they are still there), the remaining two are going to be a problem.¡± ¡°Fortunately time cannot be detected by anyone unless I tell them (which I wont). So I guess that the only thing to worry about is lighting which unfortunately will be rather visible once in use. Sigh, no need to worry about such troubles. Ill cross the bridge when I get there.¡± Dusk thought to himself. By the time Dusk finished his introspection, he had come to two conclusions. One, apart from the trusted members of his family, he would not inform anyone else that he had the affinity for time magic. There were no benefits after all. In fact, the implications far outweighed the benefits, as it wasn¡¯t like there was any teacher who was going to teach him how to control time once his affinity was discovered. He was just going to keep his time affinity a secret and train it in secret. The second conclusion that Dusk came to was that he would not expose his lightning affinity unless need be. As there was no one that would be able to teach him how to control it, exposing it needlessly would only serve to bring him complications. If he was ever forced to reveal his affinity for lightning, however, Dusk swore to himself that he would first make the best out of the situation and do his best to save his little self from any concurrent trouble. Though he doubted that it would ever get that far. By the time Dusk finished his internal monologue, his mother had already woken up ad was looking at him worriedly. As Dusk was still laying on the bed with his eyes closed, she must have thought that he was still asleep, or even unconscious. Feeling sad for worrying his mother, Dusk sat up, focused his attention towards her, and hugged her. The moment Jade saw this; tears began falling down her eyes as she hugged Jade even tighter. ¡°You¡¯re okay baby¡ Hic! ¡. You¡¯re okay. You really worried mommy¡ Hic! ¡ I thought something bad had happened to you, I almost couldn¡¯t sleep. I¡¯m so glad that you¡¯re awake now. I was so worried that my heart almost stopped beating¡± Jade said with tears in her eyes. Looking at her, all that Dusk could do was to console her while still holding her in his arms. She was this sad because of him after all. ¡°It¡¯s okay mom, It¡¯s okay. I¡¯m fine Now.¡± Dusk continued to console her until she finally calmed down after a couple of minutes, upon which she began to ask questions. ¡°So why didn¡¯t you call me for your awakening Dusk, you should have known that it was coming right?¡± Jade asked. ¡°Sorry mom, I wanted to surprise you once I got my affinity.¡± Dusk said. ¡°It¡¯s okay. I guess you were thinking of me in your own right. So what affinities did you get?¡± Jade asked. ¡°Well I got three: Space, time and lightning.¡± Dusk replied. ¡°I see, three, yes yes, that¡¯s not ba¡. Wait! What? Did you just say three? Wait a minute? I think I¡¯m getting old. To think that I¡¯d hear space, time and lightning. Haha, these old ears of mine are really playing some good tricks on me these days.¡± Jade said while laughing in a manner as though she had heard the funniest but also most dry joke on the planet. Looking at her, Dusk could only smile wryly as he responded. This news was that shocking huh? ¡°Actually mum, you¡¯re right. I did get those three affinities.¡± Dusk said. ¡°Are you serious? You know what? Never mind. You have surprised me so much ever since you were born that at this point it would be strange if you didn¡¯t. And I thought that I, with my two normal affinities, was awesome. I¡¯m really happy for you baby. Just don¡¯t tell others about these new affinities of yours if you don¡¯t need to.¡± Jade said. ¡°Yes mum, I will follow your advice.¡± Dusk replied. Looking at Dusk, her son, Jade could only sigh. This son of hers was just too monstrous. In as much as he may look meek and extremely harmless, what came out of him was one surprise after the other. ¡°Now that you have awakened your affinities, you can now try the things that I taught you and learn how to meditate. If there is something that you don¡¯t understand just come and ask me, I¡¯ll be in the office.¡± Jade said as she walked off the bed and proceeded to exit the room. ¡°I will.¡± Dusk replied. By the time the answer left his mouth, his mom had already left the room and closed the door behind her. As Dusk was due to encounter his awakening, Jade had already naturally prepared him by informing him on the basics of how to meditate. While Dusk had never really tried it, he was pretty certain that he would succeed; After all, he had had both the theoretical and visual knowledge within him ever since he was one year old. While thinking about this, Dusk sat down in a comfortable position and with his eyes closed, began to try sensing the mana around him. Contrary to his expectations, this task was really difficult as even after a whole thirty minutes he had not had a single speck of success. Since Dusk knew that no things in life came easy, however, he continued to sit down and try his best by utilizing his mom¡¯s memories. Fortunately, after the duration of about one hour, Dusk was finally able to feel something. This feeling was distinctly different from what Dusk felt when viewing his surroundings through his sense. What Dusk was feeling right now was that around him were very small particles. While these particles radiated warmth, the warmth was very different from the warmth radiated by heat. ¡°Is this mana? Is this really how people detect mana?¡± Dusk asked himself. At this point, he was really disappointed. High humans being creatures that relished in mana, Dusk had expected that they would be able to detect mana in at least a decent mana. However, the information in front of him was obscenely crude. It was like trying to look at an object through a translucent glass. While Dusk had questioned himself quite a number of times as to whether he was doing this the right way, he had, after countless experiments, come to the conclusion that he was doing everything right. He was, after all, doing everything step by step as both his mother said and did. Before Dusk could continue with his complaints however, he suddenly felt a stinging sensation from his eyes. This was the first time he had ever felt anything from his eyes ever since he was born and so it really came as a surprise to him. The stinging sensation lasted for a few seconds before it finally disappeared. This stinging sensation was, fortunately, not all that painful. By the time the stinging sensation finally ended, Dusk felt this really unrestrained urge to open his eyes and so for the first time in a very long time, he finally did and what he saw was¡. "Wow! This is new." Info Hello ladies and gentlemen, this is Delroy with today''s weather forecast...cough...cough.. today''s release. It is all thanks to you guys'' support that I have been able to let my creative juices flow and am now preparing to develop an arc that I think you will all find interesting. Thanks. When that one week is over, I will be back in all my glory. (Just wanted to warn you guys early.) All in all, thanks for understanding guys. Delroy. chapter 18 This chapter took me a longer time to write than the others, I have no idea why. Anyway, enjoy! At this moment, within Dusk¡¯s field of vision was an incredibly awesome sight. This sight was in fact so beautiful that Dusk was certain that were it not for his fateful encounter on this day, he would have gone his whole life without experiencing a sight of such splendor. This sight struck awe into Dusk even more so than the nostalgic feeling of regaining control over his optical faculties (though in a completely different way). As he looked ahead, Dusk could see his room for the first time since he came to this world. His vision, however, was not as he had anticipated. Everything before him was completely white in color. Even the bricks on the wall of his room looked different. While they were indeed shaped as bricks, all that Dusk could see using his eyes were rectangular masses that were constituted of small white dust-sized particles packed together. Let alone the bricks, even the tables, chairs, even his bed, everything was like a mass of white particles stacked together. The only thing that differed between different objects was the shape of the object, the number of particles it contained and the density in which these particles were present. The world in front of Dusk at this moment was completely white. Even the air in front of him was constituted of white particles that were moving about freely. One point of importance that Dusk came to notice was that even in the air, these white particles were more concentrated in certain areas than they were in others. While Dusk had a speculation as to what had happened to his eyes, he dared not assume, after all, within his field of vision was his room, a room that he thought he was familiar with but was now constituted countless white particles. What was even more baffling for Dusk was that he had absolutely no idea of what these particles were. More so, these particles moved at different speeds within different objects. While in some it moved at a pace even slower than that of a snail, in others they would move at lightning quick paces. Their nature was one of pure awe. It was almost as though these white particles were unseen atoms of matter, only that their nature was vastly different from that of normal atoms. While Dusk had an idea as to what these particles were, he did not dare jump to conclusions because as of the moment, these particles were of very high concern. Within his mind, Dusk had speculated these particles to be mana particles, however, as the nature of these particles greatly differed what he had come to learn of mana, he found that hypothesis really hard to prove. In as much as he found it hard to prove, unfortunately, it was the most probable hypotheses at the moment as Dusk knew nothing else of what these particles could be. The main reason why Dusk did not want to conclude that these were mana particles was because he, as did everyone in this world, knew that the different elements of nature utilized different mana and so for there to be mana of only one color really troubled him. While still in this dilemma, Dusk turned his eyes over to Stream who was laying a few ways away from him. Once his eyes fell on her body, Dusk fell as though he had been struck by lightning as a sudden realization hit him. Feeling the insight flow into him, Dusk could not help but smile, while he had not completely solved the puzzle, he knew that he had drawn completely close to the finish line. Feeling this sense of closure dawning on him, Dusk could not help but look towards his own body for a final confirmation. As soon as his eyes landed on his body, Dusk finally felt that the question that had been plaguing him for a long time (a few seconds now) had finally been answered. As Dusk was never really one who never liked to stay in the dark, he could not stand not knowing what the white particles were. Due to the feeling of displeasure that he felt, he decided to investigate it. After a couple of seconds, unfortunately, as he did not have much to go by in the way of information, he had failed to come up with any conclusion. It was at this moment that he came to look over at Stream, a decision that he later came to think of as one of his best. What Dusk saw was that around Stream¡¯s body, the white particles were more concentrated than they were anywhere else. Not only that, these white particles was constantly entering Stream¡¯s body. The most surprising part about this, however, was that once these particles entered her body, apart from a few of them, they all converged at one place within her head after which each particle separated into three parts. One of the two smaller parts was the color blue while the other was the color red. The last part, which was vastly (almost a hundred times) bigger than the other two, retained a very peculiar color. This color, if Dusk were to say, had no identifiable name whatsoever. Surprisingly, once it separated from the other two particles, it began to disintegrate until it completely disappeared. The remaining two particles (the red and blue ones) that were really small (almost microscopic in size) each moved and joined their respective sides where other particles of similar color were gathered in a gaseous yin-yang like formation. Dusk watched this process get repeated quite a number of times before he finally took his eyes off Stream. Once he placed his eyes upon himself, he noticed that something extremely similar to what was happening to Stream was happening to him. Around his body, just like hers¡¯, a lot of white particles were gathered. Once these particles entered his body, majority of them gathered at an area right below his navel upon which they would separate into not three but four particles, one extremely big, and three really small. The author''s narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. Similar to what was happening in stream, the big weirdly colored particle would disintegrate, leaving behind three really small (microscopic even) ones. These three particles, however, were of a different color than those in stream. While Stream¡¯s were red and blue, Dusk¡¯s were cyan, diamond and gold colored. Once the larger particle disintegrated, the three remaining particles would gather in areas where gaseous particles of similar color gathered to form somewhat of a rotating gaseous triangle composed of three different colors. This sight was really beautiful. Dusk viewed this occurrence occur numerous times within a second before he finally came to a concrete conclusion. After having witnessed all of this, Dusk was smiling his heart out, as he knew that he had gained insight into one of the most fundamental laws of this world. As of this moment, he had gained knowledge of something really important. While Dusk had initially thought that the mana for different elements existed in different forms within the planet, he had come to learn that the truth was otherwise; mana within the world exists in its most pure and primal state, as a mixture between all the elements on the planet. Once the different-colored mana from the different elements converged, it would form the true and tyrannical emperor of all mana, the white mana, a type of mana that is within every single object that was conceived by this planet. After having observed the nature of the white particles, Dusk had come to a conclusion that they were indeed particles of mana, the natural mana of the world that constituted of all elements within existence. Dusk had come to believe that all the free flowing mana in the universe was similar and only changed once it entered the bodies of living beings with certain affinities. Take for example what was happening in Stream¡¯s body. In as much as the mana was white while within her surroundings, once it got into her mana core, the fire and water parts of the mana were extracted and made hers¡¯. Because the remaining mana particle was incomplete, it succumbed to its instability and thus disintegrated to oblivion. The same thing happened to Dusk, though in a minutely different manner because of his different affinities. After having learned all of this, Dusk was feeling bliss in his heart because he had gained understanding to a question that was puzzling the inhabitants of this world for a very long time. In line with his conclusion, Dusk presumed that should he have the chance to look at a child that had not yet awakened, he would notice that the mana within his body will be completely white. During his initial meditation, Dusk had thought that he had a problem sensing mana because his affinities were rare, however, now that he thought about it in light of this new revelation, that manner of thought was completely whack, after all, all mana exists in the same form and so if he was experiencing problems, so were the others. The only conclusion that Dusk could come to was that other high humans incapable of sensing mana to a high degree. As soon as Dusk managed to completely comprehend the insight that the whole word was constituted of one pure and primal mana, he could feel his body growing warmer as his mind entered a state of total comfort. This was something he could do nothing about, fortunately, as the whole process did not seem to be even the least bit dangerous, he did not feel any worry. Before Dusk could close his eyes, however, he could see countless mana particles flying towards him at incredible speeds. Even Stream had opened her eyes and was rushing towards him. Before she could even arrive, though, Dusk was already immersed in that sense of warmth. This feeling that he was experiencing was similar to what he used to experience as a baby when his mom held him next to her and wrapped her arms around him, an extremely comfortable sensation. The sensation was so comfortable, in fact, that by the time Dusk woke up from it, he felt that no time had passed whatsoever. He was, however, met with surprise as soon as he opened his eyes as he noticed that his mana had instantly skyrocketed from its initial middle C rank into the lower B rank. This fact really surprised him, as such a breakthrough was something that would normally take at least two years for even the smartest of geniuses to accomplish. It was very difficult to move from one rank to another after all. The thing that clued him in to the fact that he had improved was that his mana, even though still gaseous, had improved in density. As opposed to how it was less dense than Stream¡¯s before, it was now denser than hers. Of all this, however, the thing that surprised Dusk the most was that he had increased in strength so much in a short period of time that it seemed impossible. What could have lead to this? Dusk asked himself. Thinking back, Dusk could only come up with one answer. ¡°Considering I entered that state immediately after I gained insight into the nature of mana then it could be assumed that whenever one gains insight into a mystery of the world, his/her strength will be amplified. Since the insight I gained was in regards to mana then my mana naturally experienced a boost.¡± Upon reaching this point of thought, Dusk was really flabbergasted. If this was really true then that meant that this world was even more mystical than it seemed. As even Jade, his mother, did not know of this fact then Dusk assumed that very few people, if any, knew of it. Upon coming to that conclusion, Dusk noticed that he was once again on his mother¡¯s lap, only that this time, it seemed like he had been there for a few hours. ¡°Guess that surge of mana really did draw attention, huh?¡± Dusk thought to himself. mmh.... Hi guys, so I''m back from the U.S (took longer than I thought). It was a really awesome place. there were a few things (habits, beliefs and customs) that bothered me but y''know, it happens. I''m not speaking for the whole of the continent, only the place that I visited, Atlanta. Okay, with that done, now to the serious part, the reason I decided to write this. While my trip was pretty okay, the resulting repercussions were, so to say... bad. I say this because I noticed that once I returned to my country, in as much as I would like to go on with the story (which I do), I cant seem to find the motivation to do so. I''ve written various sample chapters but I felt that all of them seemed bland. At this point I don''t know what to do. Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences. Basically, to put it bluntly, I feel that I have lost touch of the feeling that I had when I started the novel.......HELP!!!!!!!
