Running along the stretcher Jack gave a look at his newest patient: she was covered in blood and at first glace he could tell that a lot of her bones were out of places; not only that, her internal injuries were heavy to the point of wondering how she was still alive. Once in the operating room Jack gave her an anesthetic, then he began working on her; but after only three minutes, the eyes of the girl opened again and she stared at him. "How is this possible? That anesthetic should''ve kept her sleeping for 24 hours". Without saying anything Jack started to reinspect the girl, and immediately found something strange; her bones were slowly coming together, while her internal injuries were slowly healing, that was when it hit him: her body was the most perfect a human could have, it was to the point that she could easily beat people double o triple her size just based on that. "Well, that explains why she could wake up after five minutes from the anesthetic, but she''s frigging healing on her own!" reasoned Jack. I never had such a strange day, and considering everything I''ve done, there are not that many things that could surprise me. The first thing that I can remember is my birth: I opened my eyes in a long transparent tank filled with strange liquids; I had already a lot of knowledge by that time, but it was all jumbled together, the only thing that I could understand was that my body was around fifteen, which for some reasons I found strange and that I had no memory whatsoever of who or what I was. After some minutes, the people behind the glass started to drain the liquids, and I was bringed out; immediately after that someone asked me: -do you remember me?-. Not having the slightest idea of what was happening I honestly answered that I couldn''t remember a thing... not the best idea I ever had, as they immediately said that the experiment was a failure and that more would follow. From then on, they worked on my body and mind, my screams were useless, so I soon stopped; I tried to escape, but after the first time (which failed), they started to mess with my thoughts, making impossible for me to even think about betrayal. The good thing was that thanks to them my body, my perception and even my tought speed multiplied enormously... while all those experiments where going on, I used my time in order to understand all the knowledge that was crammed into my head; and in only two years I was able to unravel it all. I found that I was nothing more than a clone of the deceased daughter of the CEO of the powerful Sajin group, but because I couldn''t remember it, I was discarded and used as an experiment for the creation of the best soldier ever. It was around that time that they stopped the experiments and started the training; in only a year I learned everything I could on how to kill a person with more or less whatever weapon (more or less, I don''t think you could call weapon a pencil) I could get my hands on. And so, the day of my third birthday they gave me the freedom (after having properly set some rules in my subconscious) to become an assassin and kill all the enemies of the Sajin group. Three years after that, the Sajin group conquered half of the world economy... and how could they not? I killed entire families untill the second generation relatives, kidnapped the ones I could not kill and sabotaged the ones I could not kidnap. Knowing that the cat is out of the bag I asked the surgeon and his equipe if they could kill me; I know that this will probably kill them, but I suffered enough in my life; after some questions, the surgeon understood the situation, and ordered his equip in a way that they could survive; it was not a bad plan and if they never talked about me again, they would be safe. The more I discover about this system, the more I''m excited, but for now I need to get a fast look at this forest, it seems that the top of the tombstones is the prefered place of ghosts, and while they still haven''t seen me, it''s only a matter of time. This forest seems to be circular, and I approached it from east, so if I want to go towards the centre, I need to go west; that being said, the level of the ghosts here is lower than 15, but something tells me that I don''t want to be touched by them. While looking out for any approaching ghosts, I completely memorized the position of the forest and some of the most recognizable places, like the skeleton tombstone (a tombstone of 40 meters representing a skeleton), the vampire one (same thing, but higher and with shaped as a vampire), and the death reaper tombstone... must say they really suck at sculptures.

I think I now understand why my instincts told me to not fight this thing, physical attacks are useless, and I don''t know how to use the magical ones yet, what''s more, the ghost is fast, I can barely evade his attacks; so much for an undead that is renomated for being slow, I''d like to beat the ones who say that ghosts are easy to kill. While evading, I''m trying to concentrate on the feeling of Mana; I should have quite the high amount of it, and it must be within me. If I was a human, I''d search for some kind of core below the sternum, but because I''m a monster, shouldn''t there be some kind of gem in my forehead? I had lot of space, and even now there are some empty places; why there is still some? When you built everything you can think of (this includes all of the furniture) and enough rooms (plus facilities) to easily accommodate a thousand of royalty with all of them bringing their own servants, you understand that things could have gone a bit astray. As a disclaimer, I can only say that after some time, when my earth control increased enough to let me do minute works, so I just went ahead and did everything I could, I started from traps (that are now all over the place, I also lost the count; from simple traps to traps that push you into another one, and even traps that use your reaction in order to activate a deadlier one... in the end I also made chains of ten traps) and finished with mirrors and glass. Well, even if it''s me who says it, I''m pretty impressive; just by randomly killing some undead I actually reached level 37, not only that, I also gained quite the boost in magic proficiencies. What''s more, I also discovered why I wandered for twelve years in the 8th layer and how to reach the next layer without being roasted: it seems that ghouls should spawn in this layer and we''re the bottom of the food chain; probably because of this, they are not friendly even if we are of the same race. Another thing that i found out is that I don''t need to eat, and when out of curiosity I tried to use the skill Glutton, it didn''t work, the reason being that undeads, even when just killed, aren''t exactly , the expiration date already passed a long, looooong time ago; and let me say this: even if it worked, I wouldn''t use it anyway, in novels the peoples reincarnated as monsters change the way they taste things, the problem is... someone forgot to give me that patch. That or the skill Endless memory reminds me of what normal food taste, so even with a human cuisine is thousands of times better... you don''t realize how bad monsters have it until you become one of them, after that experience I understand why undead eat everything living, for us they must be delicious. Well, enough about how human must taste, the only way I found in order to go to the 8th and probably even the next layers is to continuously train my light resistance, every layer the effect of the light magic probably rise by around 10%, and if your resistance is too low... you start to burn, and every time you die, the light resistance is reset, so I''ll need to avoid being killed from now, or the possibility of passing another one hundred years wandering may not be too far fetched. I also found by messing with my stats that is definitely better to keep the stamina, strength, agility and wisdom stat even, or at least they must be not too far behind between each other; if you don''t do this, the penality vary from bones too brittle to support the muscles to various kind of malformations of the body. Wisdom is needed in order to understand what you''re doing at high speed; try to run at 40 Km/h while your mind can at most keep up with half that speed... fortunately I tried it in the plains, or I would''ve become a stain in one of the tombstones. The final thing that I found out is that lesser ghouls can''t use magic, while I have a big mana pool; the only reason tha I could think of is that my soul must have had some kind of effect in order to give me an abnormal mana pool; when I thought about it, I understood that my mana pool is not the only abnormal thing in my status, but also the speed at which I learn new skill is too much (because in this world everything seems to go by the law of cause and effect). I''m not saying that I''m not smart enough (even though I noted that by raising intelligence and wisdom the comprehension stat rise), but even in my previous life I needed more than simply hours or days to learn new jobs (mainly because my sister wanted everything done by me, from cooking to sewing). The last strange thing is my luck; because I gave all of my karma to Elise, it should have sent me in negative (which is shown in fame, if I''m not wrong it doesn''t matter if you''re famous or not, it changes how the other peoples look at you, it raises if you do good deeds, it goes down if you do evil things and remains the same if what you''re doing doesn''t matter to anyone), so I who have -100 fame should have negative luck (karma always gets back at you), but that''s not the case, my soul seems to interfere with that.

Leaving the boundary of the 9th layer behind me, what greeted me was a plain much similar to the one on the other side... the only difference is that in this one is that you can see undead animal wandering about, but my question is: do they count as zombies? Though they''re not strong (probably the weakest of the weak or they wouldn''t be at the border), they still give me some experience; but maybe it''s only my impression, in the end even though I fought the strongest undead in the previous circle, it was at most on par with the dead last weakling in the 8th layer. Leaving behind me a trail of blood of many differents kinds of the new race I decided to call anidead (that would be the combined form of animal and undead, though for some reason it sounds kind of bad *probably only Italian readers, if there are some, will get the joke*), and gaining some levels in the meanwhile, I arrived at the foot of the mountain... more like at the foot of a mountain range. The strange thing was that on this mountain I couldn''t see any vegetation all the way to the top; not even anideads are around, there is even this kind of feeling like . It seems that when I was wandering for twelve years, it was this kind of feeling that saved me from going in the wrong direction... or maybe I was just lazy and the idea of hiking a mountain never got considered in the situation I was in (even because if I had really tried, I would probably have stumbled and rolled back to the plain). It seems that in order to reach the next layer I''ll have to hike this mountain; and when I say hike I mean running at the top at half my usual speed, just to be sure that there aren''t any bad surprises while I reach the top; from now on the price for failure is my future. I arrived to the top of the mountain without a single problem, but the feeling that is warding me off from this place only gets stronger, I should probably be able to tell what is giving me this feeling now that I''m here. And I was right, this mountain together with other three, one in each cardinal direction, create a large valley. I can see from here that in this valley vegetation is present, just that... every single plant is petrified; it''s not like the plants here are not growing, rather they seems to grow at quite the accellerate rate, because every time a anidead break a part of the plant, it starts regrowing (and if I''m not wrong, the undead lion got pretty damaged). What I''m seeing now more than a forest seems a petrified jungle, the strange thing is that it doesn''t grow past a certain range, there are even plants that have some kind of fruits (not petrified, they seem more pieces of meat than fruits), but looking at the petrified statues, something is yelling at me to not casually try to ingest this fruit. Jack, similary to everyone else sprinted to the nearest enemy. Jack alertness was at his highest; given the speed he could arrive, he concluded that most, if not all of the anidead were faster than him, so if he wasn''t careful, before his senses could notify him of the danger, his head would fall. Reaching a wolf-like undead, Jack saw it jump in his direction, before he himself could even react, a panther undead snatched the wolf midair, by the time the panther touched the ground, jack made the rocks beneath it split, making the panther head straight down the new opened path; what happened after the rocks closed, could be easily understood from the rumors of breaking bones. At this moment from behind jack appeared a double-headed serpent hals a meter large and who knows how long ready to pierce his fangs in whatever is in his path. Without time to think an alarm ringed in Jack consciousness signaling him that this beat was very much out of his league, or that would have be if this battle was one on one; from the side a chimera came out from the foliage of the near tree, pounding on the serpent. Jack used ki reinforcement and shadow claws at the same moment and sprinted towards the two beast, acting as the third part in order to gain benefits; in only thirty seconds Jack avoided dead fifteen times, while also damaging both of the opponents evenly while they fought between themselves. At the key moment, when both of the beasts launched their final attack, Jack made earth spikes covered with the dark magic element spring from all around the two, impaling them and setting the outcome in stone. Looking at the time, Jack understood that he had spent too much time on those two undeads, he now had less than thirteen minutes to kill another seven beasts, and this was while weak undeads were still around; the more the battle progressed, the stronger enemies would remain. "invest all stat points evenly between strength, agility and stamina, what remains in wisdom" ordered Jack, and immediately he could fell himself grow more powerful, he knew he would need to strengthen himself if he wanted to have a minimal possibility of winning. By the time Jack finished his power-up, a dark skeleton hand grabbed his ankle, while using that to bring itself up, the other hand tried to use one of its ribs to pierce through Jack defences and reach his core. In an instant the lesser ghoul used his claws to block the incoming blow while he used the fangs to rip apart the skeleton spine. "never tried to eat skeletons before, they''re rather crunchy" Not even ten second passed that a three meters in height and two meters width undead unicorn came bulldozing though the jungle, running towards Jack; not surprisingly, the beast was already very damaged, so Jack simply went under its opponent with charge+ keeping his claws ready; at the right moment he jumped, simultaneously activating shadow claws and slicing right through the middle of the unicorn stomach. Feeling the differents level up, Jack didn''t even turn to see the gruesome scene, opting to continue his hunt, because he could see where the other undead beasts are, he directly went in that direction, but just before reaching his next victim, an unseen medium sized undead imp ambushed him. The scratch on his troath made painfully clear to Jack that if he was even half a second slower, it would''ve resulted in his death, kicking a tree and activating charge+ Jack flung himself towards the imp, impaling it trough the hearth with his claws in a nearby tree. Retracting his arm, Jack went back to the other life-sign that he saw before, but by the time he arrived, that life-sign was already been killed by another; without the slightest sign of retreat Jack activated charge+ again, hoping to surprise the enemy. The hit was a success, Jack executed a killing blow from behind the undead boar piercing him with his whole arm.

"Get the fuck out of my sight, this is not the moment" Jack didn''t even give the time to appear to the window, because he could feel the danger coming from behind him, and his arm was still inside the undead boar, immediately the lesser ghoul gave up on taking his arm out of the anidead, opting to use it as a lever in order to pull himself up, but thanks to that slight distraction, he still ended up with a piercing hit in his shoulder, though it was always better than the original target (his chest), it was quite painful. Feeling whatever it was that pierced him get taken out, he used that moment to free his arm and jump from the top of the boar to the new enemy, a fucking undead horned rabbit, that probably got fortunate enough to be still alive in the middle of the chaos. Taking care of it in less than five seconds, Jack looked at his injury: he will be unable to use his right arm from the next five minutes probably, hopefully less than that, but he wouldn''t count on it; what''s more, he still needed to kill two more beast in those four to five minutes. "This is bad" realized Jack, he wouldn''t be able to kill the more powerful undead with this kind of injury, so in this kind of moment the only thing he could do was to take a gamble; the lesser ghoul broke a part of the stone-plant and tossed it in his mouth, chewing it and gulping. His reasoning was that because the plant was constantly growing, it meant that it was alive, and because what he just ate wasn''t the fruit but a what one could consider the leaves, then he shouldn''t get petrified. Fortunately, what happened gave reason to him, because he started healing at a very fast rate, not even twenty seconds passed that he could already move his arm, though he could feel that now his body seemed heavier. "It seems that even though the effect is less than petrification, if I eat more than this, there is the possibility of me turning into stone" calmly observed Jack. Deciding that it was better to not eat anymore of this plant, Jack ran to the next target, and it seemed that was currently running towards him, what appeared was a two meters big fox undead who already suffered injuries; Jack feinted by activating shadow claws, and when the two of them were only five meters apart, he created a spike from earth, successfully impaling the anidead. That would be it, but something ripped the fox from the inside out; it seemed that some kind of undead parasite had taken home in the undead fox stomach, and now that he killed it, the parasite had no choise but to come out. Not wanting anything to do with this kind of lifeform, Jack instinctively created a ball of fire and shooted it to the parasite, successfully eliminating it.

Trolls have always been known for their regeneration and strength, however when the troll became an undead, he lost his exceedingly fast regeneration, but gained unparalleled strength for its level, and now Jack also understood this. Without pause, Jack used Ki reinforcement to jump on the club that was still in the ground and then Charge+; thanks to the speed boost Jack ran from the club to the arm of the undead troll and then all the way to the shoulder, after which he jumped again while also activating Shadow claws. Jack pierced the right eye of the troll with his claws, but the troll didn''t show any sign of taking damage, not even discomfort. Seeing this, Jack retreated, while taking a good look at the wound he inflicted to the undead, that was when he understood: the troll was already blind, and because his stink was so strong, it couldn''t use those two senses in order to determine where his enemy is, so by exclusion, the troll was using the vibrations from the earth to locate Jack. This also meant that if Jack wanted to lure the undead, he needed to remain in his ten meters radius and avoid both the club and the debris sent in his way. Something like that was quite impossible, so Jack decided to use earth magic to reproduce those vibrations in order to bring the troll near the skeleton, so that they would start to fight between themselves. Or so it should have went, but when the troll neared five meters from the skeleton, the both of them just looked at each other, without fighting. Activating Charge+ Jack advanced without the skeleton being able to follow him, and when in range, Jack used Shadow claws to hit the bones of the skeleton, but the result left him stunned. Not even a scratch could be seen on the impact point of the skill, as if he never did it; that was only a hit to measure the skeleton defences and Jack expected the skeleton''s bones to be sturdy, but not this much. Recovering from the surprise, Jack found himself between the two undeads, with just the time to avoid a hit from the troll''s club by jumping, but not the debris that followed it, so he lost another tenth of his life; and as if that was not enough, the skeleton swinged his sword towards Jack who was still in midair. With dumb luck, the hit that would''ve killed him never arrived, as the skeleton''s sword was too long and penetrated in the troll''s left arm, which was in the way. Jack had no time to think, as the troll had already taken back its club and was reading for another attack, Jack used the sword which was still in the troll''s arm as a platform, and went inside the skeleton''s rib cage throught the space left from the broken rib. The troll swinged its club horizontally, delivering a substantial blow to the skeleton ribcage. Though the skeleton''s bones resisted, the ribcage which was hit was in a very bad condition; it was clear that with another blow it would shatter. Looking at the damage, Jack understood that he had greatly underestimated the strength of the undead troll, but at this point of time he could only make use of it and hope it wouldn''t hit him. The skeleton had retrieved his sword, but was now stunned, and Jack used this opportunity to jump from the ribcage to the skeleton shoulder, and then used magic to let the troll know of his position. The troll hadn''t even a shred of doubt and swinged the club again, just that this time, Jack jumped down, and the club hit the skeleton''s head, separating it from the body and sending it to shatter against the barrier. Without the head, the remaining bones disassembled, falling to the ground. This stunned the troll as it couldn''t understand where Jack was. Not wasting time, Jack tried to lift one of the bones in order to use it as a sword of some kind, but they were too heavy; activating Ki cloak Jack tried again, but even if he could barely lift one of them, it wouldn''t be of any use. Concentrating the Ki cloak in only his arm, Jack tried yet again to lift the rib that the skeleton was using as a sword, but even if this time he was able to somehow use it, it didn''t mean he would be able to use it in a fight. Retreating with the bone, Jack planted it in the ground with the tip in the direction of the sky, then he began to taunt the troll. When the troll reached three meters from him, Jack used earth magic to create a hole in the ground, and at the same time he used all his magic to make the earth behind the troll hit its back, successfully making the undead trip. Obviously the distance was calculated, and when the troll fell, the sword impaled him right through the head, killing him in a blow. Confirming that the troll was dead Jack fell in the ground, as his stamina had thoroughly been depleted.

Ok, this didn''t go as I wanted, I need to be sure to be present at the next evolution, or my plan will be ruined, now I need to get out of here before the flood of respawn or I''ll need to fight my way out, and with how much unfamiliar I am with this body, I doubt I''ll be able to get out of this jungle without dying in that case. Running through the jungle I looked for the remains of the battle, but there were none. Though there are times when you need to push yourself, the idiots who believe that one should train to the point of exhaustion are mistaken; once your body surpass a certain point, it starts to deteriorate and takes damage. By the way, I found out some time ago that no matter how much I train, I don''t gain additional stats; probably in order to maintain balance between monsters and humans, the system made it so that we can''t train. Following this, it also probably means that no matter how much I learn (from books) I will not gain intelligence and wisdom; the only way to do that is to figure out things about the system or something along those lines. Now, how about the stat reduction? It seems that each time a monster evolve, his physical status gets reduced; so that a level one monster can''t kill a level one hundred human... this unless the monster repeatedly evolve or is born with powerful stats (for example a dragon). This means that the only stats that get reduced are the ones wich are put after the evolution and not the ones before, or every time a monster evolve, he would become become as weak as before the evolution. The reason the mental stats don''t get reduced is probably because if a monster finally become intelligent and then it gets his intelligence reduced, it would goback to mindless... and no intelligent monster would chose it... this also explain why and monsters of the various species have more skills and different behaviours. If things really works this way, this means that I have become a cheat, in the case that I manage to not use any of the stats that I will gain from now on and I only use the ones from my previous evolution (that I skipped), I can potentially keep all the stats from now on and never suffer the stat reduction.
