 Prolouge - Broken Fates

    The average life span of humans is around seventy years right? I feel like that''s a bit too much for me.


    Those were the thoughts that were going around my head when I was lazing around my house doing nothing. Summer vacation started two weeks ago and I still didn''t do anything worthwhile. I saw posts on social websites and the like of my friends going to exotic places,beaches for holidays and here I am on the computer listening to music and lazing around.


    I planned to do nothing today but last night I got an text from my friend to try a new game that came out last week. The name of the game was ''Broken Fates''. It was  a new MMORPG game that was really popular lately. One reason of why it was so popular is because of its unique system.


    The system removed levels! It is quite weird to see a MMORPG without levels. But that''s not all. The friend that told me about the game told me that even though the game has no levels there''s still experience. It''s just that the experience doesn''t go to your character but to your weapon. I don''t get it really well but that''s all I know.


    I am currently making my character. I planned on making the character look just like me. I only changed the hair color to black. My normal hair color is brown by the way.


    As I finished making my character I needed to name my character. I couldn''t decide on a name so I just shortened and changed my last name a bit and named my character Yano. It is a simple name. Nothing too flashy.


    As soon as I finished making my character I pressed play.


    When I pressed play I heard some epic music that started to play. I thought it was irritating and muted the music. I skipped the cutscenes and got taken to a tutorial or something like that.


    In the tutorial there were three NPCs I went to talk with the only one with a exclamation mark above its head. I pressed the NPC and a dialouge appeared infront of me. I am not the type to read these stuff so I just skipped some parts and read the importants parts. It seems that this game allows players to make their own unique weapons through a system in-game. I thought about it really hard and decided that I will make a weapon that suits my personality.


    In the end I made a rapier sword that looked like a big needle. I thought it looked really cool honestly. It was black in color with a silvery-purple hilt. I decided that I will name the sword Divider.


    With that I finished one part of the tutorial the other part was that I needed to learn how to use skill points and experience to buy skills and upgrade my sword.


    It was pretty easy though. I used the skill points given to buy a thrusting attack for my sword and the experience I gained during the tutorial to upgrade the attack speed of the ''Divider''.


    With that I finished the tutorial. I drank some water while I was waiting for the screen to load.


    I noticed that the screen was frozen after 2 minutes. I thought that there''s no way something can happen with my computer. I tried restarting it and it won''t do even that.


    I was confused. After some time I was still staring at the screen with glaring eyes. The screen suddenly went all black and all I could see was black. I decided to move my face a bit further from the screen. As I did that I saw that the room suddenly got brighter. I looked around my room and stood there looking blankly at what my room was supposed be...


    .....


    ...


    "Where''s my room!?" I screamed when I saw the vast forest infornt of me. I don''t know what is happening or anything but this can''t be normal. Just as I was thinking that I noticed that my computer was also starting to dissapear. I immediately turned around and grabbed it.


    I don''t know what''s happening but I am not letting it take my precious. It is the only thing left of my room.


    *boom* *BOOM* *boom*


    I heard a series of explosions north of me. I was so scared when I heard the explosions that I almost shat my pants. No...I think I actually did...I checked...Thank God I didn''t!


    I was still holding onto my computer. I won''t let go. I want to go home if I can please!


    I once again observed the forest.This time I saw a white silhouette running around the forest. It looks like it is running away from something. And that something looked like a bear.

    Once again I couldn''t move because I was too scared to do so. I noticed the bear and the white silhouette were coming closer towards me. Now that I look at the white silhouette I noticed it looked similar to a humans...wait,why does it have claws?


    Shit that''s no human! Why is this happening to me!?


    Once again I was praying that I was just dreaming and that I will wake up if I poked my self.


    *poke*


    Nope...nothing...Does that mean this is reality? Ughh....I let out a low sound with a dissapointed look on my face.


    I noticed that the bear and white person were coming closer. 20 meters...15 meters... 5 meters....3 meters....I am going to die...


    Wait a second! How did they not notice me yet? I looked at them while the white person slammed itself in me. Atleast I thought. It passed through me! I was suprised and a bit more scared because of that. Why could they pass through me? Why is this happening? I had a lot of questions in my mind but I can''t answer them right now because I have no clues.


    I looked at the computer I was holding in my hand until a few moments ago. It is unexpectedly gone. I looked around and couldn''t find anything but a small black ... gem? Why was this thing here? Did the white person with claws drop it? No,I didn''t see it wearing anything black in color. What is it then. I tried picking the gem up. I couldn''t.


    There was some force that didn''t let my hand get closer than a few centimeters near it. I looked curiously at the gem right now. I thought it maybe had a connection as to why I am here.


    I looked at the gem for a few minutes without worry. I have known that nothing can touch me ever since that fight between the bear and white person.


    The gem had no change at all. I decided to try and pick it up once again. This time I could touch the gem but no change at all. I couldn''t pick it up though.


    After touching the gem a few more times a black screen with white words appeared infront of me! It said something. It was in English so I could  read it pretty easily...


    I read what it said out loud.


    " Tutorial complete! Gem imprint complete! Skill points remaining were deleted. Communication device not working. Translation device loading...50%...64%...82%...100%! Translation device loading complete! Unique ability : Sword summon (Divider) was imprinted into the gem. Press the gem on your forehead to learn the ability. Good luck!"


    What!? I looked at the screen a few more times until I finally calmed down enough to think normally once again. Okay,now...What the fuck!?? Nope...I am still not calm enough.


    ...


    .....


    Some time passed while I was swearing and doing sorts of stuff while staring at the black screen. I finally calmed down. It seems that somekind of tutorial ended when the screen appeared. That much is...well alright ,I guess? I immediately connected this situation to ''Broken Fates'' . That game was starting to get more mysterious the more I thought about it.


    Also after the gem made the black screen the restriction on the gem also dissapeared. It was unbelievably beautiful. The gem was in pure black color and had the shape of a triangle. It had a silvery-purple lining in the middle. I thought it looked like the ''Divider'' sword I made during the tutorial...Then it hit me! The screen actually told me to press the gem onto my forehead right? It said that I will get the ''skill'' thingy called ''Sword Summon (Divider)'',right?


    I knew it from that moment that the game was more mysterious than I thought it was. Maybe it wasn''t the game that got me here but someone was fascinated by the game to bring me here with the game''s equipment.


    The probability of that is close to zero however.


    With that I pressed the gem onto my forehead and I noticed a screen started appearing out of nowhere once again. It was also black in color like the other one. This one said :


    " Summon Sword (Divider) - Allows you to call your unique sword from any point to you. Uses energy depending on how far the sword is located from your current position."


    With that I activated the skill with the instructions that appeared when I put the gem on my fore head. For some reason the gem dissapeared as soon as I used the skill.


    With that I fell unconscious...

 Chapter 1 - The sword Divider

    ?I¡­Where am I?¡°


    I asked myself. The last thing I remember is that I was in a weird forest area. Actually I feel like I am missing something¡­ What is it? No good, can''t remember, head hurts. Gonna fall unconscious again.


    Got to stay awake. I hurt myself a bit so I can stay awake. Right now I am in a dark black place. I can''t even see further than 1 meter infront of me. I also noticed that I can''t move some parts of my body. What''s going on?


    As I was thinking about that I heard a sound. It sounded like a¡­ cat? I tried turning my body to see what was making the sound. No good. Body¡­hurts ¡­legs won''t move


    The sound was coming closer. I could hear small sounds of  someone walking. Is it a good person? Or a bad one? I am nervous. I tried to remember what I did to get here.


    It was¡­what was it again? I don''t remember anything at all besides the fact that I was in a forest area. No! There was one more thing there¡­uhhh,a black gem was it?


    The steps were becoming even louder. Shit! I can''t die like this.


    I closed my eyes and hoped that the person/thing coming over is a nice person that will tell me what''s happening.


    The sound of steps stopped. I think the person is behind me. If only I could''ve moved!

    A few moments have passed and still nothing! I am getting more nervous the more I wait. Please just talk already!


    I tried moving my body again. No use¡­still won''t move an inch.I wonder¡­ is this how I''ll die?


    I am thinking about giving up already.


    *meeoow* What? A cat? Once again? Why do I hear a cat?


    ?It''s no use boy¡­you can''t move while in here. Even if you could it would only hurt your real body.¡° A calm voice. When I heard the voice I was suprised and even more nervous. But¡­the voice was so calming, I feel like I could listen to it my whole life and I would never grow bored of it.


    ?W-wh-who are y-you?¡° I asked. I can barely talk from all of the emotions stirring inside me right now.


    ?Someone.¡° The calm voice said.


    ?What¡­do you¡­. Mean?¡° I asked. The voice doesn''t want to answer me it seems.


    ? ¡­I can''t answer you right now,boy.¡° I felt something touching my head from behind. It didn''t feel like a hand. What was it?


    ?Why not?¡° I noticed I can talk normally now.


    ?You are not worthy of my name¡­I doubt you would be worthy of it even if you train for 100 years!¡° The voice was still calm¡­but those words,they seem a bit too arrogant,don''t they?


    ?Then,what do you want from me?¡° I asked. Obviously I need to ask that. Someone whose''s name I am not worthy is coming here to talk to me. There must be a reason!


    ?I am here to bestow a spirit to your sword. What was its name again¡­.Nope can''t remember the name of such lowly sword as yours.¡° Spirit? Wait did the voice just tell me that my sword was bad? I am not nervous at all anymore. More like¡­I am growing more angry and irritated the more I hear the voice. Even though it is so calming!


    ?Spirit?¡° I asked.


    ?A spirit, yes.¡° I didn''t mean to check! I want you to tell me what a spirit is!


    ?I didn''t mean it like that. I want to know what a spirit is and why do you want to give it to a sword! What do you mean with that!?¡° I shouted at the voice.


    ?Aren''t you growing a bit too arrogant? Shut up or I will just put a trash spirit in and go!¡° What!? Me? arrogant? This fucker!!


    ?Alright I will shut up¡­¡° Still¡­I can''t do anything. I can''t ruin my future by angering someone I shouldn''t have angered.


    ?Finally. So , let''s proceed onto the spirit imprinting. I will first need a drop of your blood.¡° The voice said while I felt something poking me in the shoulder. Couldn''t you do it more lightly. I noticed that the blood was flowing out a bit too fast.


    ?Oh! Sorry,sorry¡­my mistake.¡° The voice wasn''t calm anymore. It sounded even more arrogant than before. I am starting to hate this voice even more.


    ?So where was I? Ah,right! I need to extract the life energy from the drop of blood¡­nope too hard¡­I''m just going to throw the blood in the Spiritual Cauldron and see what I can fish out.¡°


    Oi! Oi! You must be kidding me! This voice is not only arrogant but lazy aswell. Too bad I can''t remember any of my memories from before. I wonder¡­What is my name?


    ?Ah here we go just need to drop the blood in right?¡° Who are you asking? Me? I thought you knew how to do it!


    ?Right,right¡­here we go¡­now just need to wait. Hey,boy, where''s that sword of yours?¡° The voice was asking me where a sword was. I don''t even know what sword he''s talking about.


    ?What sword?¡° I replied.


    ?What!? You don''t even know what sword I am talking about? Could you have possibly lost your memories? Hahahah¡­how dumb¡­this is the first time I saw this. I gotta tell those guys about this. They will have a good laugh!¡° Is the voice mocking me right now? It''s gotta be making fun of me,right? I wanna beat it black and blue so bad right now!

    ?Oh! There it is¡­How could you not see it when it''s right infront of you? How dumb can a person be? Oh my¡­¡°


    The voice is growing even more arrogant after finding out about my missing memories. Finish this already!!


    I saw something shiny flying towards me. I was curious what it was until I noticed that it was a sword. I thought that it might have been the sword that the voice was talking about. The sword was black in color but it still shined. It had a really thin blade and the hilt was black with a few hints of purple. It looked really ominous. But at the same time it gave me a feeling about tranquility and peace.


    ?So this is the sword you made? Man,it looks so laaamee! Why do I have to do these things? I hate doing this the most!¡°


    Lame? Are we looking at the same thing? For me it looks like a legendary sword is infront of me!


    ?Alright it seems that the blood entered the Spiritual Cauldron completely,now I just need to put the sword in and see which spirit is the most compatible with this trash sword.¡°


    I saw the sword flying behind me and I heard a sound of something dropping in water. Oi,oi you threw my sword in just like that , didn''t you?! I swear if I ever see the owner of this voice I am going to brutally kill them!


    A few minutes have passed ever since the last time the voice talked. I hope everything is going alright.


    ?Huh? What''s this? Hahahahah!! A little snake became your spirit! Hahaha¡­.I told you that it will be a useless spirit afterall.¡° A snake? I don''t really care though¡­


    ?I think my work here is finishe----Whaaa''!?¡° I heard the voice. It was suprised by something. What''s happening behind my back? I want to know!


    ?How is this possible? A mutation is happening during the imprinting! This is rare! I need to remember everything I see here!¡° The voice completly forgot about me it seems. What''s this about mutation? Is something happening to my sword or the snake?


    ?Hey,you!¡° I tried calling the voice out ?Answer me right now! What''s happening?¡°


    ?Huh? Oh,I forgot all about you¡­Don''t disturb me! Don''t you see I am----nothing actually you can''t even see 1 meter infront of you¡­hehe!¡° Shit! The voice won''t answer me at all.


    I waited for a few minutes until I heard an explosion sound. *boom* *boom* (Yeah¡­I am bad with writing sound effects.)


    I was scared by the sounds. I felt something scratching me one the back for a moment then it stopped. I could hear the voice swearing and yelling. It seems it is angry. Nice¡­


    ?Fuck it,fuck it, FUCK IT!! How dare that lowly spirit attack its owner? Ugh¡­.I hate it! You! Little fucker take this trash spirit with your trash sword and go already! I hope I never see you again!¡°


    I saw the needle-like rapier land infornt of me and the voice vanished. Good. I hated that voice to the depths of my being right now!!


    I looked at the rapier that I ''made''. I honestly don''t remember making this at all though. Atleast I know how to make beautiful things. I wanted to see what kind of snake spirit actually got imprinted in the sword but I couldn''t see anything because I can''t move.


    Some time passed and I heard some rounds of explosions going around me and I got transported back to the forest are in my memories.

    I stood there looking at the forest for a few moments before I looked at the ground and noticed the rapier. I tried to pick it up but I felt a sharp pain in my back for a moment. I stopped until the pain went away, then picked the sword up. I noticed that the sword was unusually light. Even for a rapier. Well I can''t be for sure because I never saw a real rapier in real life. Wait¡­how do I know what a rapier is? These memories are getting all messed up. I need to find out what''s going out before something happens to me.


    The next thing I noticed on the sword while I was examining the blade is that there was a snake-like pattern on its side. I immediately connected the pattern to the snake that the arrogant voice talked about.


    I don''t know how to call the snake out but I can somehow feel it in there. Good to know that the snake is alright. I wonder what was that explosion before the voice left?


    With that I finished examining the sword and decided to go in the forest infront of me. I thought that maybe there was a clue in it on my missing memories.


    I entered the forest¡­

 Chapter 2 : Snake Spirit and New Skills

    I am quite interested in seeing what''s in this forest now. When I entered the forest I felt an ominous presence watching over me. I wonder what that was?


    Still¡­looking at this forest,it seems to be really big, I don''t know if I could explore it in one day without food. I need to find food it seems then. But¡­ There''s almost nothing I see that I can eat.


    Actually there is something. There are these wierd looking berries,they look like little stars and are purple in color. They are about the size of a toothpick. I will pick them up but I am still not sure about eating them. Like with the presence at the entrance they also give me a weird feeling. I stored them in my pockets and continued exploring the forest.


    After exploring the forest for about 1 hour I saw alot of animals and some weird ones aswell.


    I saw rabbits,deer,a bear and some weird cat-type animal. I don''t know how to describe it but it had 2 curly horns,it was yellow in color and it was about 1.5 meters tall. I wanted to come closer to it but it went away somewhere. Too bad.


    The next thing I found was more of the star berries that I picked up earlier. I ate some of them because I was getting hungry, it seems that the berries aren''t poisonous but they do give of a disgusting smell once you start chewing on them. I almost passed out once again because of the smell.


    I sat down beneath a tree and went into a meditating pose. I want to see what kind of spirit was in my rapier. One thing I noticed about the rapier is that the snake-like pattern was moving faster and faster the more I tried to talk to the spirit. I think when it is fast enough I can talk to it.


    I put the sword on my knees and looked at it. I don''t know how to talk to it at all. I tried talking to it verbally.


    ?Hey,Heeey! Anybody home?¡° No use. No movement at all.


    I tried talking to it with my mind¡­ It started moving a bit! Still¡­it''s too slow. It isn''t even fast as the time earlier. I tried talking more and more. But it only started moving a bit faster. I can''t go on with this if the speed of the process is so slow. I don''t have enough food to wait here.


    With that I stood up and went to search for star-berries or a place where star-berries grow. I must admit that even though I can''t stand the smell I need to eat something and I am not confident in hunting animals. I have a wound on my back it seems from that explosion in the black room. I can''t really say it was black though because I couldn''t see even 1 meter infront of me.


    After about 20 minutes I picked up a whole lot of star-berries. I hope this will be enough until I finish.


    I once again sat in a meditating position and put the sword on my knees. This time I tried to meditate and talk to the sword once again.


    After a few minutes I went in a meditating state. I couldn''t feel anything around my surroundings. I could only sense my sword. I tried talking to it once again. This time the pattern didn''t move but I felt a stream of energy entering my body. I tried doing that once again. Another stream of energy entered my body. The stream of energy felt really cold and ominous. Like it would devour anything it touches.


    ?Are you done? I think you can hear me now , right?¡° I heard someones voice.


    ?W-who!?¡° It startled me.


    ?What do you mean who¡­I am the snake that cat-guy talked about.¡° Cat-guy? OH, the arrogant voice is the cat-guy! Wait¡­that explains why I heard cat-like sounds when he talked.


    ?Are you the spirit that was imprinted in my sword?¡° I asked. I was quite curious.


    ?Yes¡­and no.¡°


    ?What do you mean by no? I thought that the arrogant cat-guy put you in the sword already.¡° I am confused right now. I don''t know what the snake meant by no.  Didn''t the cat-guy put it already in? I am going to kill him as soon as I see him next time.


    ? By no I mean that the process was incomplete. The cat-guy forgot one crucial factor! That is the Sword Gem that you should have. Do you have it here? I can finish the process if you have it.¡°


    Sword Gem?


    ¡­


    ¡­.


    Was there such thing? I can''t remember anything though.


    ?Sword gem?¡° I asked.


    ?What? You don''t have it? Is it possible that you really lost your memories? No,that''s not possible. Only if you were mentally ill memories can be forgotten. But,even with that¡­the chances of that happening is 5%!¡°


    Mentally ill? Nope, I am perfectly normal. Atleast now.


    ?I am a healthy person, but let''s not talk about that I want to talk about the sword gem thing you were talking about.¡° I replied.


    ?Ah,yes that should be our top priority. Let''s see¡­ I know! We can find the Sword Gem if you manage to summon me in the material world. I could sense it then!¡° Summon? Material world? Hey,hey slow down a little I am having trouble following you. First what is the material world? Aren''t we already in something like that?


    ?I can see that you are confused. About what?¡°

    ?Well¡­all of it?¡° I said. It sounded like a question. I hope he doesn''t misunderstand.


    ?Is that a question?¡° He did!


    ?No! Please explain everything!¡° I said correcting myself.


    ?Alright. Listen up! I am going to tell you everything from the start. It might help you regain your memories too.


    First I''ll explain what a Sword Gem is. Sword Gems are special types of stones to be precise. They work as a medium between the Shadow World and Material world. We are currently in the shadow world. Usually beginners like you would use the Sword Gem to learn how to enter the shadow world. But you managed to make a way in by yourself. Well,it is not a stable way. It could crumble away any moment now. When you find the Sword Gem I will teach you how to enter the shadow world without doing such dangerous ways.


    The next thing is the summoning ability. I can see that you don''t remember it so I will imprint my own summoning ability in your memories. It will be a bit different than the original one but it is more suitable for summoning snake-type spirits. When you use summoning your sword will appear infront of you or in your hand if you have good control of your internal energy. Also there''s spirit summoning but for that you need to stabilize the shadow world atleast a bit more. It will take you about 2 days to do that in your current state.


    The last thing I will say before the temporary shadow world destroys itself is that I will give you a skill which you can use in battle. You will recieve information about the skill when you leave the shadow world. One piece of advice though¡­Don''t use the skill when fighting humans¡­.You might or might not go berserk and kill yourself with it aswell¡­¡°


    That''s a lot of information. Atleast I know now about the basics. First thing I am doing is going back to the place I was before entering the forest. The Sword Gem should be somewhere there.


    After a few seconds the shadow world started falling apart. So this is what snake talked about. Actually I feel a bit uncomfortable calling it snake. I should ask if it has a name when we meet again.


    I finally woke up from the meditating state. The first thing I noticed is that I am dying of hunger. How long was I talking to the snake? I think it was no more than a few minutes. Why am I so hungry then? My speculations might be right about that energy. It put a lot of strain on my body. But when I look at my body I feel a lot stronger than before too.


    I stood up and chewed on some star-berries. I picked up my sword and started going towards the place I entered the forest.


    But before that I got a weird screen appear infornt of me. It was black in color with white words. I looked at it and it said :


    ?achievement unlocked : 64th  player to start gathering energy!¡°


    Achievement? It seems that I got an achievement¡­but won''t I get anything else from that?


    As I thought about that I saw a new screen appearing. This one was even bigger than the last one. On this screen it said :


    ? Skills unlocked : Snake Eyes ¨C Allows you to see information about the target item/being. (Skill is adapted so it passes your spirit''s attribute. Current attribute : Snake,Void)


    - Blood rush ¨C Body strengthening skill ¨C possibility of going berserk : 20% ¡°


    Skills! Finally something I can use to battle monsters. But¡­now that I think about it,the acievement said that I am the 64th player to start gathering energy¡­does that mean there are others? Wait,no,I already knew there are others when I was talking to the cat-guy. He said something like that too.


    I want to try out these skills. Atleast one of them. I know how to activate them somehow thanks to the information I got when the screen appeared. I tried using the ''Snake Eyes'' Skill on the star-berries.


    Another screen appeared near the star-berries. This one was blue in color.


    -         Name : Shiningberry


    -         Type : Elemental berry / attribute : fire


    -         Anyone with the fire attribute energy will gain a bonus in attack damage for 2 hours.


    -         Multiple intakes of the fruit can end up in mental damage and posssible death.


    Well¡­I''ve been eating poisonous fruits,good thing I didn''t continue eating them. I could''ve died.


    With that I finished my trip in the forest and I went back towards the place I woke up¡­
