《The Big Red Button》 Prolouge: I guess I shouldnt have done that? I have no clue where I am, and no clue how I got here... Scratch that. I have a bit of an idea, but explaining it might take a while. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was at work, working hard at my job, which wasn''t very hard to begin with. All I had to do was sit in a room and guard a button. I was never told what the button did, just not to let anyone touch it. Not that anyone would ever find the god damn thing anyways. The thing was inside a 10 by 10 foot empty room that no one goes to. To get into the room you need to get through the door that requires a specific keycard that only 3 other people have. Before you even get to this door, you need to make it through the whole bulding to get to the staircase, as they had no elevator. A working one at least. Once you make it to the stairs, you have to go to the 30th floor. And when I say the 30th floor, I mean down. ''30 f*cking floors and we have no working elevator! This is why my legs are so beautiful! But I would trade them without a second thought if I could get the elevator fixed!'' The thing had been broken before he even got hired for god''s sake! If the pay wasn''t as good as it was, he would have quit the same week he was hired. The amount of money he earned from this wasn''t really all that much, but for what his job was, it might as well had been the lottery. All he had to do was sit in a chair and make sure no one came in the room. He''d wake up at 11 AM, do his morning routines, makes his way over to the room and switch out with the other security guard, and then just sit and watch the button for 12 hours. As you can imagine, watching a button for 12 straight hours can be very boring, so sometimes the man would imagine what it was the button did. They never told him what it did, and everytime he saw the button he had a small desire to push it to find out. Of course he never did, fearing to lose such a great job, but after 5 months of working at the company, his curiosity was reaching it''s limits. So one day, after he had switched with his companion in boredom and curiosity, he had finally lost to the temptation, and decided to push it. He rose from his wooden chair( quite a weird thing to have in such a modern and well profiting company), and began walking towards the button. Each step he took seemed to just make the 5 months of curiosity become even more unbearable. After taking a few large and slightly fast steps, he had reached the red button. The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation. The button was 5 inches in diameter and protruding from a 3 foot talk metallic gray pedestal. The pedestal was the only thing in the room and was directily connected to the floor, as if it had always been there. No seams of any kind except for around the button. As the man examined the button and pedestal like he has for the past 5 months. Looking at the button caused a moment of hesitation from the man, but he continued of a few seconds. As he pressed the button, he felt something akin to electricity flow through his body, and felt his right arm, the one he had pressed the button with, go numb from the shoulder down. The man, no panicing, began to back away unsteadily and fell over after a few steps. He just sat there for a few minutes breathing heavily whole trying to come out of shock before he actually succeded. It was then he noticed that the whole room had begun flashing with red emergency lights and was filled with the ear-splitting noise of alarms. It was then that the man knew he was scrwed, and would be fired as soon as his superiors made it to him, as he had no doubt they knew he had pressed the button. He decided to make a run for it and hope they thought someone had broken in while he was off slacking somewhere else. Unfortunately for him, he never got the chance. Before he could even make it to the door, the blearing alarms were replaced by a loud explosion. This was followed by shaking, enough to knock him on his ass for the second time. *CRACK* The room began to fill with cracks, staining the perfect smoothness of it''s walls, floor and ceiling. small pieces of rubble began to fall from above. Some hit the man, though none of them were big enough to injure him. Before the man could beg God for mercy, the rumbling and shaking stopped. The man stared blankly at the ceiling, half expecting it to just collapse on him. Seeing that it wasn''t, he just laid down and after some time, he came to a conclusion. "I am so fired, aren''t I?" It was then he was crushed from the ceiling collapsing on him. Chapter One- The Mighty God Named George Author¡¯s Note: As this series is just starting and the views haven¡¯t even reached 100 as of the writing of this chapter, I feel it needs to be said that I have no prior experience in story telling/writing. Any criticism is not just wanted, but needed desperately. I¡¯m also just pulling everything out of my ass for now so sloppiness is unavoidable. To those of you who are reading this, please try to enjoy this, despite its blatant lack of quality. I will try to not fuck this up, but I won¡¯t make promises. Being crushed to death was surprisingly painless. You don¡¯t die as quickly as you think you would while being squished under tons of dirt, concrete, and metal. After being crushed I just lost all feeling in my body. Besides my thoughts I was basically alone in darkness for a few minutes before I just slipped away. During that time, I chose to think about my life till now, because I didn¡¯t get to relieve it in one of those stereotypical life flashing before my eyes moments; just darkness and regret. I grew up in a poor family of four with not many friends. Sure, I had a friend here and there, but we eventually drifted away naturally. We always did, every single time. I never had a friend for more than a few years at most, and those I did manage to stick with for more than one year can be counted on 2 fingers. The spaces in between when I had friends was when I would just stay by myself, not bothering to speak with other my age unless spoken to. And nobody talked to me that much besides my family, and I still didn¡¯t talk to them as much as I really should have. It¡¯s because of my tendency to glare. It¡¯s not like I do it on purpose, I just have eyes that do that. It didn¡¯t help that I usually had bags under my eyes from staying up late, which made me looked like an annoyed depressed emo kid. I usually had my hair semi-long as I didn¡¯t like haircuts, always made me uncomfortable having a bladed object that close to my head. Back to the topic on hand- my family. There was my mother my father and my sister. All of us had dark brown hair, me and my father having a darker shade of brown though; same with our eyes, all of us had brown eyes. Besides being poor, we your run of the mill family, nothing special about us, you wouldn¡¯t be able to distinguish us from any other family on the block. Despite that, I wouldn¡¯t trade them for anything on the Earth. Not even the planet itself would be enough for me to give away my family, and I¡¯d be damn sure to beat the shit out of anyone who tried to take them. Anyways, I¡¯m sure that you¡¯re bored listening to me talk about my family, let¡¯s continue on with the important stuff, like where in the hell I am right now. I looked around and all I could see was endless white, nothing more. It could stretch on for miles or just last for ten feet and end, I wouldn¡¯t know. The whole place being the same color made it impossible for me to tell. I looked down to see if my body was alright, seeing as how it was crushed just a few moments ago. What I saw couldn¡¯t be my body, as it was much thinner and lean than mine. Yet it was attached to me, and I could move it fine, though it was a bit awkward feeling. After a sudden thought, I quickly looked to check if my precious member was still there and was glad to see that it was. With that out of the way I was out of ideas on what to do so I just floated there for a bit, did I mention that I was floating? I don¡¯t think I did, but it doesn¡¯t really matter. Getting bored after just a couple seconds, I decided to try and spin myself. I started flailing my arms in an attempt at moving, and failing miserably. I persisted at this for what I think to be about 3-4 minutes before a noise interrupted me. *Cough* The noise startled me, and I quickly spun around to face the direction of the noise, even though I failed all my other attempts at moving. What I saw was a man, about 6 foot, wearing a t-shirt, a denim jacket and¡ jogging pants. His hair was a light bluish green, and came mid-way down his back. The strange combination of clothing baffled me for a second. I raised my arm in a still waving form and said, This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. ¡°Hi.¡± The man seemed amused for some reason. ¡°Never seen someone react so nonchalantly in your situation before.¡± ¡°I do feel oddly calm for being naked and floating in an endless white void.¡± I don¡¯t why I feel so calm, I just do. I don¡¯t think the man has an explanation for me, as he seemed so not know why either. I decided to ask the most important question I could think of, ¡°Can I at least get some pants? And of a different variety than yours?¡± The man replied, ¡°If you so wish, but I prefer going clothing free, though nobody seemed to like it when I met them with no clothes on, so the other gods have made me wear clothes at least when I meet them or other people.¡± That explains his bad choice in clothing. A pair of blue jeans appeared on me as if by magic. Glad to finally be in some clothing, I decided to talk to George. ¡°So you¡¯re a god?¡± ¡°You could call us that. We only refer to ourselves as that because that¡¯s what you seem to call us.¡± ¡°Do you have a name?¡± ¡°George.¡± That sounded like a very weird name for a god, but this god was pretty weird already. Just imagine it though, people praying to the mighty and all-powerful god George. The thought made me chuckle slightly. Seeing as the god was so nice as to give me his name, I decided to return the pleasure. ¡°Nice to meet you, I¡¯m #@$%^....¡± ¡¡¡What? ¡°#@$%^¡± Why can¡¯t I say my name, speaking of, what was it again? I know I had one, but whenever I try to think of it, it feels like I¡¯m getting farther and farther away from remembering it. George answered my question as if he could read my mind, and he probably could, seeing as how he¡¯s a god. ¡°Sorry, I nearly forgot to tell you, you seemed so interesting. You¡¯ve forgotten your name because you¡¯ve died. As your name was associated with your body and not your soul, your name has been revoked from you and will be replaced after you are given another one.¡± ¡°Oh,¡± was the only reply I could give as I had yet to regain my ability to panic. Losing my name didn¡¯t seem so bad, as long as I could remember my family¡¯s names. My mother Sarah, my father Jack, and my sister Janice. ¡°So when will I get a new name?¡± ¡°Usually, you would be given one by your parents after your born.¡± ¡°Usually?¡± ¡°Yes usually, as there can be many circumstances that lead to a child not being named, let¡¯s not go through them as they tend to be rather sad.¡± I would have stopped him if he had tried to go through them, I¡¯ve always hated sad things. ¡°But fret not, as this risk will not apply to you, as I will name you myself!¡± ¡°Why would you do that?¡± ¡°I find you interesting, something hard to come by if you¡¯ve lived for billions of years!¡± ¡°Okay, go for it.¡± The god smirked and a glint of childlike mischievousness in his eyes. ¡°I hereby name thee¡.!¡± Chapter Two: The God of Freedoms Champion Author¡¯s note: I may come back to this later and re-do it. It feel¡¯s kinda clunky and forced. Give me your opinions on it, if you will. ¡°I hereby name thee¡!¡± The god said in an exaggerated voice. ¡°¡Azad!¡± ¡®George looks pleased with his naming choice, and I had to agree that I liked the name. Just felt like a good name, felt nice to say too.¡¯ No sooner had I finished this thought, did I feel an unbearable pressure press down on me from all directions. If I wasn¡¯t still floating, I would have fallen onto my hands and knees from the force of it. The pressure lasted a couple of seconds before the sensation began to change. It now felt as if something was wriggling its way into me, straight for my heart. This brought on excruciating pain, like my heart was being stretched for something large to fit into it. After groaning and spinning for a good 10 minutes, the pain slowly stopped. I took a few extra minutes to catch my breath and regain what energy I could. After I had done this, I looked at the god and glared at him. ¡°What did you do!?¡± ¡°I¡¯ve made you my champion!¡± The god said this with a wide smile on his face. ¡°What does that mean?¡± ¡°It means that you represent me, in the mortal realm at least.¡± I just floated there for a bit to think about what to ask next, as I had already calmed down for whatever reason. ¡®Being this calm is actually kind of creepy in its own way.¡¯ After thinking of a few questions I started to ask George. ¡°So what does a champion do exactly?¡± ¡°They are supposed to go around and spread the belief of their gods.¡± ¡°And what would your belief be?¡± The god changed his wide smile to a business one. ¡°Let me formally introduce myself to you! I am George, the god of freedom and enjoyment. I believe in doing what one wants, when one feels. As this is something hard to convince people to do, I will not ask such a thing of you. Instead, I ask that you do so yourself and enjoy your new life! But, if you happen to come across someone taking away others freedom and enjoyment, I will ask you to deal with them.¡± The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. The last part was said eerily. Obviously George felt great hatred for those who do such things. ¡°So I¡¯m just to live my life, and stop people from taking others freedom and enjoyment?¡± ¡°Exactly!¡± ¡°Ok, I will do my best. Also, you never explained how I became your champion.¡± The god went back to his wide smile, which made him far less mature than he apparently was. ¡°Oh right, sorry. The way it works is the person who names you gives you a bit of their power. This is why, with large families you will see that most of them have the same element of magic. Unless of course, someone who has a different element of magic names the child. Usually though, both the parents have the same element.¡± ¡°Magic? There¡¯s magic?¡± ¡°Yes, magic.¡± ¡°Will I be able to use it?¡± ¡°I don¡¯t see why not; I¡¯ve given you a tiny bit of my power after all.¡± ¡°Only a tiny bit? Why not more?¡± ¡°Because I¡¯m a god. If I gave you anymore than I did, you would probably die! You won¡¯t even be able to control what I¡¯ve given you properly.¡± ¡°Why can¡¯t I use it properly?¡± ¡°Your body needs time to synchronize with the power. The process usually takes 10 years. For you though, I will give you a gift that will make it so you can use the power, but only a small amount. I gave you quite a lot and if you don¡¯t this process slowly, you could die and explode.¡± Hearing that, I decided to never over use my powers, as I didn¡¯t feel like blowing up. Blowing up seems like something unpleasant to experience, so let¡¯s not do that. ¡°Anyways, were out of time so you need to be going Azad. Talk to you later,¡± George said before swishing his hand as if shooing me away. ¡°Wait, what about my-¡° Before I finished my sentence, I blacked out. Not a chapter, just a smal explanation. Hello to the little amount of people reading this, nice to see you again. I haven''t posted for almost a week now and haven''t really made any progress on chapter 3. This is because of IRL stuff and lack of energy. So, I''ve decided to make a schedule for when I post, which will most likely be something I break. I plan to post on Mondays, every week if possible. Also, I have decided to put more time into the chapters, to hopefully increase the almost non-existent story quality. That is all, cya Monday. Chapter Three: Nessies real! Azad woke up to find that he was in a forest. It appeared to be night judging from the color of the sky, but he could still see just fine for whatever reason. 10 feet to the right of him was a stream, which went reached out of the clearing and into the dense forest. Azad seemed to be having trouble remembering how he got here. ¡°I have no clue where I am, and no clue how I got here¡¡± Though he remembered what happened when he pressed the button, he seemed to be having trouble remembering what happened after it. ¡°No, wait, I remember now!¡± The memories took a bit to come back, but he eventually remembered. The God named George, his death, the reincarnating thing. ¡°Though aren¡¯t I supposed to be a baby?¡± What Azad asked was true, if you reincarnate, you have to be born again, right? Though this is what Azad himself thought, he appeared to be fully grown, and still have the body he did in what he will now call the God¡¯s Realm. ¡°So, no growing up again? I¡¯m fine with that, going through puberty again would suck. Anyways where am i?¡± Azad decided it was best to determine where he was and how far from civilization this place is. ¡°Time to go exploring I guess.¡± With that said, Azad pulled himself up and began to walk downstream next to the stream. He did this for what seemed like an hour before he reached another clearing. ¡°Neat,¡± was the only thing he could say regarding what he saw. In the second clearing, what he saw was a pond next to a giant tree, which he didn¡¯t see before on account on the dense forestry. The tree looked like something straight out of a fantasy novel, and made Azad just want to stare at it for a bit, and he did just that. After he had enough of staring, he proceeded to go into the water to wash himself, as he had gotten sweaty from walking for so long. There was no need to strip, as he had no clothes on to begin with, a fact Azad saw no need to note, as he was fine with being naked. ¡°Cold!¡± The water was indeed cold and caused Azad to shiver. Wanting to get used to the temperature quickly, Azad dunked himself completely under the water and looked around. He then ran out screaming at the top of his lungs. ¡°AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!¡± What he saw nearly scared him shitless. He saw what looked to be a fish. A 20-foot-long fish, with 12-inch razor sharp teeth. Red beady eyes that were watching him like he was prey. It also had legs, 6 of them, each pair of two being 4 feet away from each other starting from the front. Azad ran as quickly as he could out of the water, which wasn¡¯t that quick with the resistance of the water, and tried to get away. He tripped and fell, like a moron. Azad, now scrambling on the ground to run away, heard a loud splashing sound, and felt something bite his leg. There wasn¡¯t any pain, just a pressure. This was all he could register before he was flung into the air. Azad was flipping through the air, a good 35 feet up, and still screaming. ¡°FUCKING WHY!?¡± Azad then face-plan- Azad then landed on the ground, once again no pain, and tried to turn to the monster. After turning to it, he was presented with a 20-foot-long fish thing running top speed at him. Azad froze in place and did the only thing he could, pray to George that he survived this. He raised he arms in front of himself and closed his eyes. This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. The rumbling of the running fish-snake thing grew louder and eventually was right on top of him. Right before he expected to die a second time, he felt an impact on his hand, followed by a gurgled whine. Azad opened his eyes to see his right hand atop the legged snake¡¯s head, holding it back. ¡°THE FUCK!?¡± Out of surprise, Azad tried to push the freaky fish thing away, and was surprised when it was flung into the trees behind it, and snapped in half after making contact with the trees. Azad stood there dumbfounded for half a minute before he checked his hand for injuries. He found none, but what he did find were strange marking going up his forearm. They appeared to be black rings, and started at his wrist and ended at his mid-bicep. As he was trying to figure out what they were and how they got there, a line began to from straight through the middle of them. As is became more prominent, he felt his strength began to disappear and was assaulted by a slight pain. The pain grew worse and worse until he keeled over, unable to breath from the pain. The pain didn¡¯t last long, as Azad was soon back on his feet and thinking about what just happened. Then it struck him. ¡°George did mention that he gave me some of his power and placed a seal on it so I could get used to it, didn¡¯t he?¡± Azad decided to put thought into this later, as he wanted nothing more than to leave this place and find a town of some sort. He didn¡¯t want another Nessie situation. ¡®Fucking puns, never liked em¡¯.¡¯ He began walking the opposite direction of the fish¡¯s body, and continued to walk in this direction for several hours, before it began to get dark, and he decided to sleep in a tree for the night. ¡. ¡®Sleeping in a tree makes your back ache.¡¯ Such were the thoughts of Azad as he awoke in a tree, 10 feet off the ground. He would have climbed higher, but that would require effort, something Azad did not have after his experience yesterday. The same could be say about anyone who¡¯s been attacked by a giant fish, especially one that can walk on land. Climbing down from the tree was harder than climbing up, and having a sore body didn¡¯t help. People always say that a near death experience makes their body sore, but Azad had no clue why. He figured it was something like over exertion, as that was the most obvious answer. ¡®Pain sucks.¡± Azad continued to have such thoughts for the rest of the day as he made his way through the forest in one general direction in hopes of finding some sort of settlement. Hopefully one with beds, as Azad didn¡¯t like sleeping on a hard surface. ¡ ¡®Nothing found, once again.¡¯ Azad had indeed found nothing, except but trees and more trees. But he wasn¡¯t exactly having a hard time find those really. They were everywhere and seemed to go on for miles in every direction, at least this is what Azad saw when he bothered to climb a tree to see where he was. ¡®Third times the charm, I guess.¡¯ Chapter Four: A Lack of Specification ¡°This is boring and I¡¯m lonely! How big is this damn forest!? IT¡¯S BEEN EIGHT DAYS ALREADY; I SHOULD HAVE DIED BY NOW! I¡¯M NOT EVEN HUNGRY!! GOD DAMN IT!¡± Azad couldn¡¯t help but scream at the sky in anger. He had been walking in that one general direction for eight days without a day of rest. His efforts proved fruitless as he couldn¡¯t see himself getting any farther out of the sea of trees. ¡°WHERE ARE THE ANIMALS ANWAYS!? THERE SHOULD BE SOME IN SUCH A BIG FOREST!¡± He hadn¡¯t seen a single living creature besides the green menaces that were the trees. Azad had grown sick of them and wanted nothing more than to be rid of them. Though it¡¯s not he really needed to find any animals, as he showed no signs of getting hungry. He still got thirsty though, which bugged him in a way. If you don¡¯t need food, why would you need water? It didn¡¯t make sense to Azad, and in his situation something that didn¡¯t make sense to him only made him angrier. ¡°Fuck this forest and everything involved with it!¡± Azad really did not like this forest, and really wanted to get out of it and fast as possible. ¡°Why did you put me in this god-forsaken forest George!? Why couldn¡¯t you just put me somewhere nice? Somewhere with beds, and toilets! And why do I need to shit if I don¡¯t eat anything!? That¡¯s makes no sense! Let me leave this place already!¡± ¡°You sure? I found you trying to make your way through the forest to be quite funny though.¡± ¡°Go to hell.¡± ¡°I would but I don¡¯t have any sun screen, so I can¡¯t go streaking there! I¡¯ll get sun burns.¡± ¡°Fuck you, get me out already if you can!¡± ¡°Fine, fine. Don¡¯t get so mad, it¡¯s causes wrinkles.¡± ¡°Just do it already George.¡± Azad didn¡¯t really want to question how the god had talked to him, he was a God after all. What he did want to question though, was why the God hadn¡¯t contacted him sooner, instead of allowing him to roam the green hell for a week. He wasn¡¯t going to ask though; he wasn¡¯t sure he could stay calm after hearing the answer. If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. ¡°Where would you like to go?¡± ¡°Somewhere without a lot of trees,¡± Azad said Grumpily. ¡°O-kay then.¡± It was then Azad was once again thrown into darkness, just like when he left the God¡¯s Realm. It didn¡¯t last long though, as the endless black was replaced by green, as he fell face first onto dirt and grass. ¡°I fucking hate you George,¡± He mumbled through the grass. Azad grumbled and climbed to his feet and surveyed his surroundings. What he saw left him even angrier than when he was in the forest. What surrounded Azad were endless fields and hills, a truly beautiful sight, breath-taking even. Though it was pleasant to look at, it showed that there was no village of any kind near Azad. It also showed that there were no safe places to sleep. ¡°Why in the name of God did you bring me here? THERE¡¯S NO FUCKING TOWN HERE!¡± ¡°Well you said nothing about a town, just no trees. And there certainly aren¡¯t any trees in sight here.¡± Azad could only glare at the God. ¡°Then take me to a town.¡± ¡°No can do Azad, you used your freebie. Can¡¯t help you for another year, so see you then!¡± George seemed to have somehow hung up the telepathic conversation him and Azad were having. ¡°Oh for the love of God.¡± Azad couldn¡¯t even get angry anymore, and just started walking in what he thought would be a promising direction. This was a completely baseless thought, as every direction looked exactly the same as the other. ¡®I will one day beat the shit out of you George.¡¯ Azad made this vow as he set out on his second journey. No Chapter Today So I am currently sick and sleep deprived and I still have stuff I need to work on for school, so no new chapter this today, but maybe if I have time later this week I can manage it. Sorry. Chapter 5: Magic Mishaps Author¡¯s Note: So I¡¯m writing this with literally like 17 hours of no sleep. Apologies if there¡¯s an excessive amount of errors in my grammar and spelling. Also,, this is a day early, as I couldn''t get one out last Monday. It''s a small thing, but it''ll have to do as an apology. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ - 2nd Journey, 1st day walking ¡°I have a new hate for walking.¡± Such were Azad¡¯s opinions on his current situation. ¡°Hope I find a town or something soon, I don¡¯t want to be naked for the rest of my life. Just because you streak doesn¡¯t mean I have to as well George.¡± Needless to say, Azad wasn¡¯t happy. George had left him in a less then desirable place to be and he had no ability to leave it except just walking until he made it out. ¡°It¡¯s getting dark, I should stop for the night, though I don¡¯t have anywhere to hide. Not like there has been anything I need to hide from anyways.¡± Although Azad had yet to feel tired, he still felt it was safer to rest during the night instead of walking endlessly. Especially this night, as he wanted to try to use magic, despite knowing nothing about it. When he chose a place to sit and rest for the night, he did the stereotypical light novel method for magic sensing. He closed his eyes, cleared his mind, and breathed rhythmically; attempting to sense something inside of himself, or whatever it was they did. Always worked for the Main Characters, why couldn¡¯t it work for him? Azad did this for a couple hours before he felt something. It wasn¡¯t where light novels usually described, in the pit of his stomach, but instead in his head. More specifically, his brain. It felt like a mass of compressed smoke. ¡°How do I know what that feels like?¡± Asking this question made him lose his concentration, losing track of the mist like substance. Azad couldn¡¯t help but ask himself this question though, as he had never encountered such a thing. Another 45 minutes were spent relocating the mass. Once he had found the stuff again, he attempted to will it through his body somehow. It was easier to do than expected, but still required all of Azad¡¯s concentration to move small distances and took many retries before he managed to get it all the way down his right arm, to his hand. After he did this, he did the thing where you imagine what it is you want the magic shit to do. Some bullshit thing like that. How does that even work? The magic can understand what the fuck you¡¯re thinking and automatically knows whatever it needs to do to vaguely replicate such a thing. Bullshit. That isn¡¯t how physics work damn it! These were the thoughts that sent Azad on a few more retries. Once he had done everything again, he just used his head to imagine some stuff like his hand wielding fire. He didn¡¯t expect it to work like that, so he was rather carless with his thoughts regarding what he wanted it to do. Unluckily for him it worked perfectly. Reading on this site? This novel is published elsewhere. Support the author by seeking out the original.Azad opened his eyes after feeling a searing pain, only to see his hand engulfed by a pure white flame. ¡°Oh holy mother of fucking shit!¡± Azad began to yell, scream, kick, and roll on the ground as his hand was burnt surprisingly slowly by the flame. ¡°OH GOD MAKE IT STOP!¡± ¡°You did this yourself, you have to stop it yourself. Plus, it still hasn¡¯t been a year yet, sheesh! And you mortal say that us gods are bad a time!¡± ¡°FUCK YOU GEORGE! NOW IT NOT THE TIME FOR YOUR SHIT!¡± ¡°Fine then, see if I care! And here I was gonna tell you to just reverse the process.¡± The words said by the putting god made Azad feel stupid. At least it would if he wasn¡¯t in complete pain and attempting to do such a daunting task as reversing the process while on fire. The next hour was hell for Azad, but he managed to put out the fire. ¡°How the hell will I jerk off now!? I never learned how to do it with my left hand!¡± While the way it was implied was less than appropriate for the matter, his right hand was indeed unusable. His right hand was coated black and cracked in places, allowing blood to ooze out. ¡°God I feel like Dumbledore. Only dumber.¡± Azad then suddenly felt extremely drowsy, and fell over asleep. ---------------------------- - 2nd Journey 2nd Day Azad awoke to sourness, followed by a headache, and then by a moment of forgetfulness as he couldn¡¯t remember what had happened for him end up in such a situation. Then he remembered, and wished he hadn¡¯t. He felt that what he had done was extremely stupid. Why hadn¡¯t he been more careful? This is just like what happened with the fish thing. ¡°Next time, don¡¯t use my jerking off hand.¡± Azad wouldn¡¯t be so stupid as to harm his only means of sexual pleasure! Especially when he hadn¡¯t seen another human for more than a week. ¡°We¡¯ll use my left hand next time, but only after my right hand heals. Don¡¯t want to have no hands to jack off. Oh, and being able to do less important things, like defend myself!¡± Of course Azad was joking about protecting himself being less important than jacking off. Protecting himself was above jacking off by a bit. Chapter 6: Careless Stupidity Author¡¯s note: So I¡¯m in a good mood today, so I feel like this chapter will be somewhat better than the others. Give me your opinions and advice please! Also, I might switch the schedule from every Monday to somewhere around Monday. So expect chapters somewhere around Monday. ------------------------------------------------------ 2nd Journey ¨C 4th day ¡°I need a journal or something to write in. Just talking to myself is getting boring as hell.¡± Azad said, frustrated at his hopeless situation. ¡°Stuck in the middle of butt fuck nowhere, with no indication of which way civilization is, and no way to pass the time by jacking off. The gods must hate me, or more specifically, George must hate me.¡± Azad grumbled. Azad looked down at his still burnt hand and played with an idea in his head. If what he was planning on doing worked, he would be able to practice magic without any permanent harm. ¡°Please work!¡± Azad pleaded as he began pouring mana into his hand and imagined it healing. As he did this he began to feel extreme pain, but not enough for him to cry out. ¡°Shit this hurts!¡± But that didn¡¯t stop him from doing so anyways. The pain was caused by his hand shedding the burnt skin and flesh, and rapidly regenerating new skin and flesh. Watching it was frightening and a bit sickening, but Azad wanted to make sure he didn¡¯t fuck it up by not paying attention again. ¡°It¡¯s actually working! I¡¯m like Jesus or something!¡± Azad was esthetic and nearly cried tears of joy. He could jack- I mean; he could use his right hand again! ¡°Now that I have this cheat method, let¡¯s test all the tropes of magic!¡± Azad screamed this as he began pouring his mana into his right arm muscles. Azad began to feel strength well up in his arm as he poured more and more mana into it. When he felt he had enough, he stopped pouring mana and flexed his arm. *CRACK* *SNAP* *CRUNCH* ¡°AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!¡± The sounds heard previously were all the bones in Azad¡¯s right arm crumbling. Azad had only reinforced his muscles, and not his bones. His bones were crushed by the amount of force his muscles squeezed them with. ¡°FUCK EVERYTHING! WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS! FUCKING HEAL! HEAL DAMNIT!¡± Azad began to pour more mana into his arm and heal the bones. This action caused his arm to begin rattling as the bone fragments were rearranged back into place and reconnect to each other, causing another wave of sanity breaking pain. ¡°Next time *pant* reinforce everything. *pant* No exceptions! Always everything!¡± Azad vowed to stop being carless and over excited. He would take magic very seriously from now on. At least until he later learns of a certain growth spell, and attempts to use it on a particularly sensitive part of his body. But until then he would be very careful. ¡°Now that that is over with, let¡¯s just keep walking and I¡¯ll just try again later, but not with body reinforcement. Regular magic for now, control before anything!¡± These were the words last uttered by Azad before he blacked out once again. ---------------------- 2nd Journey ¨C 5th day If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement.Azad woke up to a pounding headache and a feeling of weakness. ¡°I really need to stop doing things like that. One of these times something is gonna eat me while I¡¯m out.¡± Azad reflected on his actions and decided to at least try to pass out in a less dangerous place. ¡°Right, why did I pass out this time? Was it because I used to much mana¡.?¡± Azad jerked himself up into a sitting position and began checking his mana reserves. ¡°I guess I did.¡± What Azad saw was his nearly empty reserves of mana. He had one tenth of it left. ¡°Better pay attention next time. I don¡¯t want to find out what happens when I run out completely. Well now that that¡¯s been figured out, how do I get my mana back? Should I try meditating to absorb it or something? Let¡¯s try that.¡± Azad closed his eyes and tried to sense his surroundings for mana. He found it quickly, as he had already learned how when he tried finding his own mana. But when he tried to will it to merge with his mana reservoir, he found himself unable to move the ambient mana, as Azad decided to call it. ¡°How do I do this? Let¡¯s try and pull it in with my own mana.¡± Azad began the delicate process of trying to tug at the ambient mana with his own, failing most of the time. Though when he did manage to succeed, he only managed to slightly pull the mana closer to himself. ¡°Let¡¯s try a different approach. What do some of the stories do? Funneling was one of the methods said to be used, let¡¯s try that!¡± Azad began another delicate process of trying to suck the ambient mana into himself, instead of pulling it in. At first he didn¡¯t know what to do and just winged it by forming a funnel shape with his mana, leading into his mana reserves. Needless to say, this didn¡¯t work and he decided to try and spin his mana funnel to suck the mana in. This worked for whatever reason and ambient mana started to slowly drift into his reserves. Azad did this until his reserves were almost full, but then he noticed that he couldn¡¯t control the mana he had sucked in. ¡°Why can¡¯t I use it? Do I need to do something first? OH! Don¡¯t some of the stories say you need to like, rotate it or something? What was it¡?¡± Azad considered what it was, but in the end he couldn¡¯t remember. ¡°Let¡¯s just rotate it and see what happens!¡± Azad began to use what little mana he could control to start spinning the ambient mana in his reserves. He did this until he felt the mana spin on its own and began to use less force to push it. Only enough to have it continue spinning. This went on for at least 5 hours. Over the course of these 5 hours the ambient mana within his reserves began to come under his control. Azad didn¡¯t know how it worked and didn¡¯t really feel like trying to figure it out, he just wanted to get to some form of civilization. ¡°OKAY! Now that that¡¯s through with, let¡¯s keep moving before it gets dark!¡± And with this, Azad began walking once again. Chapter 7: Control Freak Author¡¯s Note: 11 PM at night, no internet, nothing better to do but write. Nuf said. ------------------ 2nd Journey ¨C 6th day During his endless walking, Azad came across a pond. This pond, strangely enough, was surrounded by the only trees he had seen since George had dropped him here. The trees were small, only reaching 20 feet in height, and had thin trunks. Their roots were going into the pond. Azad decided to, for once, stop walking and rest here for a few days. He was mentally exhausted thought that maybe waiting for a few days would clear it right up. So Azad picked one of the trees, which had comfortable looking roots, and sat on them. While sat on the roots of the tree, Azad decided to practice his magic control. He did this by taking his mana and circulating it through what appeared to be veins meant only for his mana. After he did this, he realized that this probably wouldn¡¯t really help him with his control when using it for things other than body strengthening. He continued his exercise for about an hour before he changed to another exercise. He began circulating mana to his right hand, and moved it to float above his hand. He then tried to condense it to as small as he could. All he could do though was make it slightly denser. He then started trying to make the mana swirl in his hand, as if it was a tornado. This proved hard to do, but it wouldn¡¯t be an exercise if it was something he could already do. It took all of his focus just to get it to move in a vague swirl like motion. He had noticed this in his attempts to fill his mana reserves earlier, but this proved his thoughts. ¡°So controlling my mana outside my body is much harder than when it¡¯s inside.¡± This just meant that Azad would have to work hard so that it wasn¡¯t so difficult. He became engrossed in trying to make it swirl faster and in a smoother motion. He did this for hours, but he never noticed. He was having too much fun trying to improve his control. Support the creativity of authors by visiting the original site for this novel and more. At some point it had turned night, but Azad didn¡¯t notice. He kept going, his control improving and the swirl would get more refined and fast. Eventually the exercise was too easy for him, so he tried doing two at the same time. It wasn¡¯t that much more difficult, so instead of just swirling them, he started making them spin in a circle while he swirled them. This was really difficult and forced him to slow down everything to a crawl, but he could do it. He started working on this for hours. His arm got tired so he tried to put it down, but found that the mana was harder to control with his hand down, so this killed the speed of his mini tornadoes. He had to slow down once again. It became day again, but he still continued. He once again needed something more difficult to do, so he started doing both inner and outer mana control practice at the same time. At least he tried to. It was too difficult for him and wouldn¡¯t work no matter how much he tried, so he gave up on that. Azad decided to take a break from practicing and took a nap. When he awoke, it was nighttime once again. He decided to practice his inner mana control while he waited for daytime. When daytime came, he decided to take a dip in the pond to wash off the grime that had accumulated since the fish incident. This time however the water was too shallow to really hold anything dangerous. Azad walked into the water, and began to float and relax for a bit before he began scrubbing away the dirt. He then caught sight of his reflection and saw that his eye color had changed. His eyes were no longer brown, but instead a light purple like Georges. ¡°So not only my hair but also my eyes? Damn, gonna miss my brown eyes.¡± Azad had already noticed that his hair had changed to the same light bluish green as George¡¯s hair when his startlingly fast growing hair got into his eyes. He wasn¡¯t very surprised though. After Azad was finished ¡°washing¡± himself, he went to the edge of the pond, sat down and began to relax. Chapter 8: Firs- Second Contact Author¡¯s Note: So I didn¡¯t post anything last week because I was instead working on how the mana system would work. That takes a bit of time so I might take breaks in the future so I can work on other things. I might even post the file that I have the information on as something like a reference point. We¡¯ll see eventually. ------------------------------------------------ ¡°This water is slightly too cold. It would feel great if it was like a sauna or something, like those Japanese ones! The ones you always see in anime and manga, and you always wonder if it¡¯s as good as they make it out to be.¡± Azad was still resting in the small pond in the middle of nowhere. The pond had a pleasant temperature from being in the open sun all day, but it was still on the cold side. It worked to relieve some of Azad¡¯s stress but not enough in his opinion. ¡°Can¡¯t I just use magic or something to heat it up? Would that work or would that just be me fucking up again? Probably the latter, but now I¡¯m curious. I¡¯m gonna try it, but first let¡¯s see if I can actually a less than melting temperature before I try and heat the water I¡¯m currently bathing in. Don¡¯t want another burn injury.¡± Azad raised his hand and channeled mana into the tip and had it leave his finger and hover above it. Last time he just moved the mana to his hand and left it inside, which caused the fire to be stemming directly from his hand, burning him. Hopefully if he had the mana hover above his finger instead, the flame would be above his finger, not on it. As he imagined the flame, the mana began to start get, as Azad would describe it, excited. It was buzzing and shaking like it was restless and needed to release energy. It then began to from in a white flame above his finger. ¡°This is too hot; I¡¯ll just get boiled like a lobster.¡± Azad tried to lower the flames temperature by applying the science he knew and calming the mana down. It worked and the color of the flame began to get closer to a mix of orange and blue. Just the right temperature. ¡°This¡¯ll do, but how do I heat the water? Let¡¯s just try stuff and see what happens, I¡¯ve been thinking about complicated stuff too much as of late.¡± Azad attempted to heat the water for close to a half an hour before he managed to grasp the concept, but it was worth it for the pleasant sensation of a warm bath. As steam rose off of the water, Azad sank into the water and sighed in relief. ¡°God, this is a feeling you can only understand if you go weeks without a bath or proper sleep. The only thing that could make this better is if I wasn¡¯t stuck in the middle of nowhere, but I can¡¯t really do anything about that now.¡± The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. Even after all this time Azad was still frustrated at where George had put him. But as he just said, he couldn¡¯t do anything about it besides continuing to walk, so he decided to just take another nap in the water. The nap was enjoyable, especially so when combined with the warmth of the water, but he was awoken suddenly from something lying on his face. Specifically, his nose. With his nose blocked, Azad was unable to breath and quickly got up, flinging the thing into the water, which had gotten cold. ¡°WHAT WAS THAT!?¡± Azad screamed and looked in the direction the thing was flung, expecting to see¡. Well, he didn¡¯t really know what he was expecting, but the thing didn¡¯t meet whatever those expectations were. ¡°Is that¡. A rabbit? With wings? I know it¡¯s supposed to be a fantasy world, but still, wings? How would that help the rabbit? This isn¡¯t really the time to be questioning something like this world¡¯s evolutionary paths and shit, but I really had to ask.¡± The Rabbit was floating in the water with its wings spread to the sides of it as if they were fins. The rabbit was also very small, as if were a baby. ¡°So I was nearly just smothered to death by a baby rabbit with wings? Fuck my life. Anyways, it¡¯s the only living thing I have seen for a month, so I¡¯ll just leave it at that and be glad that I¡¯m not the only one alive in this endless grassland.¡± Azad was happier then he let on. He hadn¡¯t had contact with anything living besides George and trees, and Azad was sick of both of them. Having something new around would make it so he wouldn¡¯t have to talk to himself as much. He could keep it as a pet or something, give it a cute name and carry it around to show off to people and brag about how cute it was. Azad had already decided to keep it with him. But how would he convince it to come with him? ¡°Hey you, rabbit thing. Wanna come with me?¡± Azad did this more as a joke than anything and didn¡¯t expect it to work at all. But the rabbit nodded in response, began to swim over to him, and flopped out of the water and onto his head, where it laid down and folded its wings in. ¡°¡¡ Fuck it, why not? A tiny rabbit with wings that can understand human speech. It¡¯s fantasy, anything is possible.¡± Azad decided to just roll with it and began thinking of names. Chapter 9: Hand Me Downs My apology for there being no chapter last week! Author¡¯s Note: Writing this directly after posting chapter 8, so I have less creativity than I usually do. Apologies in advance. I¡¯m also using a new keyboard, so there might be mistakes caused by the difference, please point them out. Please rate this story so I can improve it. ----------------------------------------- ¡°So what should I name you?¡±, Azad said to the rabbit sitting on his head. Azad wanted to name it something cute but cool at the same time, but he wasn¡¯t sure he knew any names that fit that description. Maybe something like Snow, to match the color of its fur. No, that¡¯d be too lazy. He needed something better. Maybe the rabbit had an opinion it could share. ¡°You got any ideas on what I should call you? If not, I might just be lazy and call you thumper.¡± The rabbits only reply was to sniffle at him in a confused manner. ¡°Guess not.¡± Azad was stumped for some time before he just decided to stick with a random name he thought of. ¡°Fuck it, I¡¯ll call you Blair. Short and easy to say, while also sounding kinda cool.¡± Azad thought it was good enough and the rabbit didn¡¯t seem to care so he figured it was decided. ¡°Well Blair, good to have you!¡± Blair replied by thumping Azad¡¯s head lightly with one of its feet. It was getting dark so Azad re-heated the water and went back to sleep. When he awoke Blair was still on his head, asleep. It was close to day so he decided to set out early. He woke Blair, who was upset at their early rise, and reluctantly stepped out of his little natural bath. If you discover this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation. ¡°I really will miss this pond, maybe I¡¯ll come across it again sometime?¡± With these words, Azad started walking once again with his new companion. At least for a few hours before he came across a wonderful sight for someone stranded in the middle of nowhere for weeks; A road! ¡°Oh sweet mercy of George, thank you! Please don¡¯t let this be an abandoned mountain trail or something! I know were in the middle of a field, but knowing my luck, anything¡¯s possible.¡± Azad hesitated for a brief moment to decide which way he should go, but made his decision and started walking down the right path, as he was right handed. The dirt road didn¡¯t look recently used, but that didn¡¯t damper Azad¡¯s excitement. He walked the road for hours before coming across what looked to be an old cart. It was beat up and broken, but it didn¡¯t look old. ¡°Well this spells trouble¡±, Azad said checking his surroundings for clues of people. ¡°Oh, what¡¯s this?¡± What Azad had found was what looked to be a blood trail, leading down the way he was going along the road. ¡°Well I guess I¡¯ll run across something interesting later. Before we go chasing after possibly injured people, let¡¯s check the cart for anything useful.¡± Azad began rummaging through the broken cart, but all he found was a sack and a pair of old pants. While most would consider this garbage, Azad found it t be a life saver. He had been naked for the entirety of this journey and was losing his shame, something he didn¡¯t want to lose if he was going to live near people once again. ¡°It¡¯s a bit big for me, but if I get a belt, it¡¯ll work just fine. Well, that¡¯s all there was in the cart, let¡¯s go.¡± With this Azad began following the trail of blood, in hopes of finding someone. Chapter 10: Noble Steed Author¡¯s Note: So I got the week off from school so I had a bit more time on my hands to write chapters. I still had homework to do. ---------------------------------- As Azad went down the road, the blood trail got harder to see, so he assumed that the injured person was getting better as they continued on. Eventually, the blood trail stopped all together, which left Azad confused on what to do. If the person had stopped bleeding and continued on the path, maybe they stopped for a break eventually? Or, fearing that whatever had harmed them was following, they might have gone off the road in hopes of losing it. Azad doubted it was the latter, as it would be easy to track something in this open plain. Thinking this, Azad continued down the road. It wasn¡¯t long until he ran across something once again, but it wasn¡¯t what he thought it would be. ¡°What is that? Is it a horse or something? It looks too big to be a regular horse.¡± What Laid on the side of the rode was what looked to be a massive horse. Kind of like those giant breeds that have a lot of hair near their hooves. Azad didn¡¯t know any specifics on the breeds of horses though, so he wasn¡¯t really sure. It looked like a big horse in Azad¡¯s opinion though, so that¡¯s what he was going to call it. ¡°Should I approach it? It looks injured, so it might be the thing I¡¯ve been following. It might be too weak to try and defend itself, but that could also mean that it¡¯s going to be super aggressive. An injured animal backed into a corner, was it?¡± While Azad was pondering his situation, the horse had noticed his presence and lifted its head to look. While it did see him, it didn¡¯t seem to care and laid its head back on the ground, as if excepting what was to come. ¡°Well, I guess it¡¯s fine to approach. I hope at least¡± Azad began to slowly approach the beast of a horse, and kneel down next to it. Once again it didn¡¯t seem to try and threaten him in any way. Azad was still cautious, so he very slowly placed his hand on I¡¯s head, trying to pet it. ¡°So your just fine with me petting you? Not gonna try and run or anything like that? If you let me do my thing, I can probably heal you. You fine with that?¡± The horse turned to look at him and just stared for a few seconds before nodding. Azad was surprised, but not as much as when Blair had nodded at him. ¡®What am I, an animal whisperer?¡¯ Getting permission from the horse, he looked towards the wound. It looked to be a large slash across its side. It didn¡¯t look like it was by a claw or bite, so Azad concluded that it was probably a sword that did it. It¡¯s fantasy, so why wouldn¡¯t there be swords? ¡°I¡¯m gonna try and heal you, so just sit still, I haven¡¯t done this on another living thing. I don¡¯t want to give you tumors or something.¡± Azad began to slowly pour his mana into the wound. It took a bit of force because of the horse¡¯s mana resisting his mana a bit but it quickly gave in to his mana and allowed him to heal the wound. Azad took the healing slow just to be safe, and spent about 10 minutes healing the horse before the wound had closed, leaving a bald spot on the side of the horse. This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version. ¡°There, all done! Be careful though, while I have healed the wound you still lost a good amount of blood. Take it easy, okay?¡± Not heeding Azad¡¯s words, the horse got up and proceeded to run off the road and into the plains. ¡°hey, wait! Where are you going!? I told you t take it easy!¡± The horse was fast, so Azad began to boost himself with magic so he could chase after it, but it was still a little faster than him. ¡°Wait! I don¡¯t want to lose sight of the road! Wait god damn it!¡± Azad¡¯s shouting was useless, and the horse kept running. The chase lasted a few minutes longer before the horse stopped. ¡°Finally! Why did you run off like that!? What if you had tired yourself out and collapsed! I wouldn¡¯t be able to do anything about it!¡± The horse continued to ignore Azad and leaned over and began drinking from something. It was then Azad finally noticed that the horse had stopped at a pond to get a drink. ¡°How the fuck did you even know this was here? And did you really need to run here? Could you have not just walked here? Be more careful with your body, geez!¡± Azad was annoyed at the horse, but not enough that he didn¡¯t notice how weird it was for him to lecturing a horse about taking care of its body. Eventually, the horse seemed satisfied with its liquid intake and stopped drinking. ¡°Are you done now? Good, let¡¯s go back to the road so I can start actually getting somewhere.¡± Azad turned towards the direction he remembered coming from and started walking, but was stopped by something tugging at his loose pants. He turned around to see the horse with his pants in its jaws, attempting to tug him back. ¡°What? What do you want?¡± Azad asked the horse. The horse started tugging harder, then stopped and crouched down, tilting its head towards its back. ¡°Wha¡ You want me to ride you or something?¡± The horse nodded. ¡°Okay, I¡¯m tired of walking anyways¡± With this said, Azad climbed on the horse¡¯s back after he had gotten comfortable, the horse stood up and began walking back to the road. Once it reached the road it began trotting down the way it was originally headed. Chapter 11: Dead Rising Author¡¯s Note: I promised some action, but I have no experience with fight scenes, so please give me your opinions on it and what I could do to fix them. Also, I¡¯m posting this early because there won¡¯t be a chapter next week. ------------------- The horse beast didn¡¯t stop for hours and didn¡¯t seem to get tired, even with all the running it did earlier. The ride was pleasant and allowed Azad to enjoy the scenery for once. The area he had been dropped in was truly beautiful, and if it wasn¡¯t for the fact that it was so huge and he had no proper equipment to safely travel such an environment, Azad would have loved to be here. But as he didn¡¯t have that, he never really paid attention to the beauty. While Azad was contemplating whether he would have had an easier time even if he did have the equipment, the horse suddenly stopped. ¡°What¡¯s wrong horse? Something there?¡± Azad asked the horse beast. Azad looked in the direction the horse was facing to see what had caused the unplanned stop. In the middle of the road was what looked to be a body. It looked to be old, and had some of it had rotted away, revealing yellow bones, which were oddly new looking despite the apparent age of the corpse. ¡°Something doesn¡¯t feel right about this. The corpse is giving off an unsettling feeling, like I should avoid it.¡± Azad said to no one in particular. Despite Azad¡¯s instincts telling him to avoid the corpse, he decided to investigate. He hopped off the horse, and made his way over to it. As he got closer, the feeling got stronger, and more disgusting. It almost made him turn back. Almost. While it was true that the feeling the corpse gave off was horrible, it just made Azad more curious of its origins. Blair didn¡¯t agree though, and chose to hop off their perch on Azad¡¯s head, and back to the horse beast. Azad ignored this and closed the remaining distance and examined the suspicious corpse. It certainly looked like nothing more than an old rotting corpse, but it was oddly intact for there being no shade and constant heat from the sun raining down on it. Azad finally decided that he had seen enough and tried to back away from it, but something made him freeze in place. The corpse had twitched. Azad had flashbacks to all the zombie movies he had watched, and immediately tried to run away, but the corpse had leaped up and grabbed his leg. ¡°Oh fuck no!¡± Azad screamed in fear and anger. Azad looked down at the zombie thing, and saw it attempting to bite his ankle ¡°Fuck off you undead freak!¡± Azad kicked the zombie in the face, causing it to lose its grip and tumble a bit. Azad took this chance to gain some distance from it, expecting that it was going to get back up. The zombie, following Azad¡¯s expectation, got back up at surprising speed. Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on the original website. ¡°Aren¡¯t you supposed to be slow and shamble? ¡°Azad asked the zombie. ¡°SSSSSSOOOOOOUUUULLLSSSSSSS¡± The zombie moaned at Azad. ¡°Great, a zombie that doesn¡¯t just eat people, but their souls as well. Fuck my life!¡± The zombie began charging at Azad, preparing to swing what looked like an old pickaxe. It was covered in rust and had an old wooden handle. Once again, the zombie surprised Azad with its speed, but it wasn¡¯t that fast. Azad prepared to block the swing and starting reinforcing himself. Once the zombie had reached him, it swung the old pickaxe at his head. Azad stepped in and hit the zombie¡¯s forearm with the back of his own forearm, and hit the zombie in the chin with his palm, imitating what he had seen actual martial artists do. The zombie¡¯s right arm broke from the hit, dropping the pickaxe, while its head was snapped back while it flew back a few feet landing on its back. It laid there motionless for a moment, before getting right back up. While it seemed to be moving just as fine as it was before, its neck was clearly broken, with hits head still flung back, as if it was looking at the sky. It reached for its head, and snapped it back into place with a sickening crunch, and looked back at Azad. Its head now hung loosely, which made it seem even more like a zombie. It stared at Azad for just a few seconds, before its head started darting around, as if looking for something, and stopped when its sight landed on the pickaxe that was on the ground. Once it had spotted it, it didn¡¯t hesitate for even a moment, before it began sprinting straight for it. Azad wasn¡¯t about to let it regain its weapon, so he also raced towards it, and managed to grab it before the zombie. But once he did, he was overwhelmed by an intense feeling of darkness. Pure darkness. It was even more horrible than the feeling he had felt before. It was like it was trying to consume his soul, and take his body. Azad fought back by instinct and flooded the pickaxe with his mana. This seem to do the trick, as the darkness was forced away from him, and out of the pickaxe. ¡°NNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!¡± The zombie had suddenly screamed, as if it was feeling unbearable pain. Before it could even finish screaming, it began to wither to dust on the spot. Azad was speechless, but also slightly happy. He had just wo his first fight in this world, and it filled him with a sense of pride. It took him a bit to come back to reality, and he looked at the pickaxe in his hadn¡¯t. It hadn¡¯t withered away like the zombie had. Instead it remained and even seemed to become newer. It was less rusted and the long wooden handle was no longer rotting. It still looked old, but not ancient. ¡°Fuck it, why not? Let¡¯s just use this as a weapon for now. How hard could it be?¡± Azad had no idea. Chapter 12: Dont Touch Weird Things So this chapter is kinda long compared to my usual ones. I changed my mind about there being no chapter this week, but I''m not sure if this counts as a late chapter or an early one. Doesn''t matter does it? Author¡¯s note: Writing this in the middle of class probably isn¡¯t a good idea, is it? Oh well. ------------------- Though a pickaxe couldn¡¯t really be considered a legitimate weapon, it was basically a hammer with a pointy tip. Learning to use it as a weapon would probably require more brute force than skill; just smash things with the pointy end and they would die. Plain and simple. ¡°I have a feeling it won¡¯t turn out to be that easy.¡± Azad voiced his thoughts. ¡®Thinking about it, this pickaxe isn¡¯t actually a weapon and looks to be quite old. It would be a miracle if it could survive one fight with someone who has been trained to use a sword. ¡°Can I reinforce it with mana? It looked like it had something similar in it when the undead miner was using it. What was that anyways? I don¡¯t know, but it was disgusting. Moving on, can I reinforce this thing?¡± Azad took the pickaxe in both hands and began trying to pour mana into the weapon. The mana seemed to go in, but when it did he lost his control of it and couldn¡¯t take it out. All the mana that went into the pickaxe was gone. ¡°Maybe it works differently for inanimate objects? Who knows, but I¡¯ll do this every now and then. Maybe I¡¯ll somehow benefit from it.¡± As it seemed that the fighting was over and the disgusting aura was gone, Blair decided to once again claim their perch on top of Azad¡¯s head. ¡°If I¡¯m not careful, people are going to think I¡¯m wearing a fur hat. Like one of those raccoon ones, fucking hate those hats. Always found them creepy whenever I saw someone wearing them. Who would want to wear something like a dead body on their head? I understand that it¡¯s just the same as a leather hat, but at least the leather hate doesn¡¯t still look like the animal.¡± Azad ranted. ¡°Speaking of leather hats. Since this is a fantasy world, is there humanoid creatures here? If so, do they have a human equivalent of the raccoon hat? What were they called? Don¡¯t think I ever learned the name of them.¡± While Azad thought of this, he made his way back to the horse and got back on its back. Once he was once again in a comfortable position, the horse began trotting down the road. If someone saw what this looked like from a stranger¡¯s perspective, this would be a very strange scene. A blue haired man wearing nothing but a pair of raggedy old pants, with a small winged rabbit on his head and a pickaxe in hand, all while riding atop a giant horse like beast that could crush a man¡¯s skull as if it was pudding. But since Azad cold only see from his view, he didn¡¯t think much of his situation and just enjoyed the scenery. But he had seen just about all there was t seem when it came to endless hills, even if it was beautiful. He decided to take his time adjusting to the feel of the pickaxe, or whatever the fighting people would do when they got a new weapon. He figured he would get it eventually. After falling from the horse a few times, he decided it was best to do this while standing. So now Azad was walking besides the horse beast, and Blair who was sleeping on the back of it. They had decided that Azad was moving too much for a good sleep. Azad switched from winging it with one hand and two hands. From the way he wanted to fight, one hand would be better, he could still use spells that way. Though before he made it to that, he needed to at least be able to swing his pick straight. Azad had decided that not using his body reinforcement would increase his improvement, as well as train his body. Maybe from his excessive use of mana, or maybe just his untrained body and amateur movements, he got tried from swinging quicker than he thought he would. He retired to the back of the horse beast and rested. Gathering his mana back would be impossible with the rocking of the horse, so he decided to just watch the road ahead and attempt to keep a lookout for anything dangerous. Azad only got to rest for an hour before the horse stopped once again and began to look around as if it was looking for something. ¡°Now what? Something dangerous?¡± Azad looked around the area to try and spot something. His eyes landed on one thing that looked quite suspicious indeed. Enough so that he wondered how he hadn¡¯t noticed it before. It was a massive 7-foot statue of a plate armored person. That was what it looked like at first, but on closer inspection it appeared to be a massive corpse of a knight. From past experiences Azad knew better than to just walk up to it, but it really did just seem like a statue. It wasn¡¯t even giving off the dreadful feeling that the miner 49er guy was. Azad decided that his best course of action was to pick up a nearby rock and chuck it at the monstrosity. It hit the center of the beast¡¯s chest with a satisfying metal clunk. The thing didn¡¯t seem to react to it and just continued to sit there in its kneeling position. ¡°Is it really safe? Should I walk up to it just to be sure? If it gets up, it¡¯s going to be like fourteen feet tall, and I¡¯m not sure I would be able to kill it if it does attack me. Maybe I should just pass it by¡.¡± Azad thought about his decision for a few minutes before coming to the obvious conclusion. Support the creativity of authors by visiting Royal Road for this novel and more.¡°Imma gonna touch it and just deal with what happens afterwards!¡± Azad said as he began walking towards the statue. He made it 5 step from the statue before being forced to stop. It had started getting up. The rusted creaking of the metal indicated how old it the amour was. The bastard sword of the behemoth that was previously stuck in the ground was ripped free and rested on the shoulder of its owner. The undead knight towered over Azad as if he was an ant. ¡°This probably won¡¯t end well, will it?¡± Azad asked as the behemoth sent him flying with a single punch of its massive fist. Azad had momentarily blacked out, only to come to from the shock of landing. ¡°Holy fucking shit that hurts!¡± Azad hurt all over his body, but mainly in the arm he had used to block the punch. Even though he had reinforced it, it was clearly broken and twisted at the wrong angle. Even if he did have enough mana to heal it, he didn¡¯t have the confidence to heal it fast enough before the behemoth made it over to him, which it was in the process of doing. The behemoth was surprisingly fast for its size and was already nearly within range for it to swing its sword at Azad. ¡°Oh god!¡± Azad shouted as the behemoth suddenly took an extra-large step forward and began to swing the sword. Azad attempted to dodge by jumping backwards, but didn¡¯t make it far enough. While he did make it so he wasn¡¯t cut in half, he still got a nasty gash on his stomach. ¡°Fuck! God damn you!¡± The pain was terrible, but Azad could deal with it. What he couldn¡¯t deal with though was the weird dark shit that was currently infesting his wound. It felt as if it was eating away at his flesh. ¡°FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCKKK!!!¡± All Azad could do was scream in pain. While he did this, the behemoth walked over to Azad and raised its sword overhead, preparing to finish off Azad. It swung down like a guillotine, hitting its target and cracking the ground with its force, but its target was not dead. In a small crater was Azad, holding the sword with his previously broken right arm, black lines running down it. With little effort, Azad flung the sword back upwards, causing the behemoth to stumble back from the force. Once it had regained its balance, it got into what looked to be a defensive stance. ¡°Wow I feel good. Is this what drugs feel like?¡± Despite his situation, Azad still made jokes as he walked out of the small crater and towards the behemoth. The behemoth seemed confused at what was happening. Just a few seconds ago it was about to kill a weak creature that had disturbed it, but now it was facing a threat. It took a step back and prepared itself. ¡°Well, let¡¯s see what I can do!¡± Azad said as he launched himself towards the behemoth. Though he stepped in so fast, he didn¡¯t mean to. It was hard to suddenly control his new strength. He couldn¡¯t stop himself in time, so he accidently flew headfirst into the behemoth, flinging it back a few paces, while Azad fall flat on the ground. ¡°That did not go as I thought it would.¡± Azad mumbled though the dirt. Azad stood up once again, careful not to jump into the sky, and faced the behemoth who was now going on the offensive. It was doing a side swipe with its sword. Azad decided to be cocky and grab the sword. He stuck out his left hand in order to stop the sword. When it made contact with his hand, the force pushed Azad to the side a bit, but the sword was stopped. Azad had another idea. He kept a firm grip with his left hand while also grabbing the sword with his right hand. He raised it slightly, and then lowered it onto his knee, snapping the blade. Once he did a quick overlook at the damage he did, Azad let go of both halves of the sword. One falling to the ground with a thunk, and the other being quickly pulled away from Azad by the behemoth, who was even more confused by what was happening. It just looked at the broken end of its sword as if it couldn¡¯t believe what just happened. While it was trying to figure out if this was a dream or not, Azad walked over to his pick, which he had dropped when the behemoth punched him. He picked it up and made his way back to his enemy, while still trying to control his strength. Azad stopped right in front of the behemoth, and began his swing. The behemoth barely noticed in time to block with the flat side of the sword. This did it no good though, as the pickaxe¡¯s point went straight through it and into the armor, but not reaching the behemoth¡¯s body. Though it didn¡¯t reach, a sudden invisible force shot out from the pickaxe¡¯s point, through the behemoth and out the other side. Azad yanked his pick from the behemoth and took a step back expecting another attack, but none came. The behemoth stood there for a few moments before it let out a screech. Black mist began to shoot out from its helmet like a tea kettle. It dropped its sword and fell to its knees, still screeching and spewing the black mist. Soon after both the screaming and the mist stopped, and the behemoth fell face first to the ground. ¡°Well, that was loud and annoying. What was that black shit anyways?¡± Azad asked before also falling face first to the ground, unconscious. Nothing to do with the story So I''m reading this manga called I Am A Hero, which is about zombies. Normally in zombie things, the death are quite brutal. But while reading this, this one guy died to fucking horribly that I need to comment on it. So the guy and the MC were running from zombies, and they decided to cross an overpass. While going up the overpass, the soon to be dead guy gets bitten on the hand. Despite that he keeps running and soon gets bitten again by more zombies. Right after he stopped running, the wheels of a crashing plane swooped by and knocked his head off. This guy just couldn''t get a damn brake could he? Anyways, literally all this was about so sorry to those who expected something important. Chapter 13: A bit of History Author''s note: Apologies for such the long wait, but I had a sudden increase of shit I needed to take care of. First what happened was that I was suddenly given like 3 different projects that I had to finish within two weeks, and then I had finals to study for, and then another big test to study for right after the finals. Then I had a period of peace, but I was left with literally no energy to write. Then last Tuesday it was my birthday, so I decided to just wait until next week to write stuff. I really am sorry for the wait. Even now I still have things I need to take care of so this might be a bit lackluster. Also, in my relaxing time, I have been playing a lot of Skyrim(due to them making a re-mastered edition), so there may be some resemblance to it within the chapter. -------------------------------------- "Is this what a hangover is like?" Azad asked as soon as he awoke. His head felt as if someone decided it was a good idea to use it as an anvil. Not only that, his body felt heavy and was full of aches and cuts. Azad attempted to get up but fell back down when he felt a weight on his back. "Blair, could you please get off my back so I can get up?" Azad pleaded to the tiny rabbit. Blair looked down to Azad from their seat. Looking closely, Azad could see concern within the rabbit''s eyes. "Really, I''m fine now. So please get off or we''ll lose daylight." Azad said trying to convince Blair. She seemed reluctant to move, but eventually decided to jump down. Once she had, Azad slowly made his attempt at getting back on his feet, wobbling along the way. Once he had made it, he took a bit longer to regain his sense of balance. He was now fully standing, so he surveyed the area. The giant suit of amour was still there and so were the two pieces of it''s broken sword. He didn''t really know why he had to check if they were still where they fell, he just felt he had to. "So what the hell is this thing and why was it here? Speaking of, where is here? There seem to be a lot of undead here, a lot being two." Azad questioned out loud. He seemed to be getting worse in that regard. "You could always ask the all-knowing god that is always up for answering your questions." George chimed in. "Yes, but that would mean I would have to try and stand your personality. I''m not sure I have such capabilities." Azad retorted. "Well it can''t be as hard as fighting an undead knight could it?" George argued. "That''s what this is then? Why is it here?" Azad asked. "Well this is what the natives call the Land of the Undead. Of course there are going to be undead here!" George said more happily than he should have. "Land of the Undead? Is there going to be more of these things?" Azad asked. "Oh yes, lots more. It used to be a prosperous city after all." George continued to wear the wrong expression for the current conversation. Reading on Amazon or a pirate site? This novel is from Royal Road. Support the author by reading it there. "If it used to be a city, what happened to it?" Azad asked, not really wanting to know the answer. "Well long story short, a necromancer decided that having an entire city''s worth of undead would make him unstoppable. Like most cases similar to this, he was unable to control such an amount and lost control of his powers and exploded. This usually would kill the undead but due to the power being sent out from the necromancer exploding, the undead remained long enough to become self-proficient." George said with the smile remaining. "I thought you said he wasn''t powerful enough to control that amount of undead." Azad questioned. "No, he certainly did have enough tri to handle them, he just lacked the control. Control is more important then the amount y''know!" George lectured Azad. "What''s tri?" Azad asked. "What you would call mana." George answered. "Why not mana?" Azad asked again. "Because the person who we allowed to name it said that he tried a lot to gain it. We thought it was funny so the name remained as it was." Azad did think it was funny. "Ok, if I''m in this Land of the Undead, which way to I go to get out of it?" Azad finally got to his main question. "Well, while this a dangerous land to travel, it has an essential trade route going through it that is used every now and again. To get to that, you would need to make it to the city first, which you were already on your way towards. Just keep going on your current path and you should make it there eventually." "So when I get to the city, then what?" Azad asked. "There should be a main road going straight through the city the will take you to another city a few hundred miles away." George replied. Azad thought about it for a second and decided to ignore the large distance. He was sure he had at least traveled that much by now. "By the way, what are these two cities called?" Azad asked. "The dead city is named Tolwuun while your destination is named Thendor." Azad repeated these name sin his head a few times to remember them before heading on his way. "Where''s my thanks!?" George yelled to Azad. "You''ll get it when I make it to a city that isn''t full of dead people." Azad replied seriously. ------------------- So this was kinda short compared to the last one but I still have things I need to get done. That''s not why I''m here though. I just wanted to ask an unrelated question. Have you ever done something while listening to one particular song on repeat so much that when you listen to it while not doing the task, the song constantly reminds you of it? Chapter 14: Nerdgasm Author''s note: So my week has been unpleasant. Not only have I been dealing with the heat, due to having a terrible air conditioner, but I got a bit of a stomach flu as well. An apt description of my past week world be "solids go in, liquids come out!" On a side note, fuck the god damn soul cairn in Skyrim and its lack of a map. Navigating that was like attempting to read a different language with little to no context! ---------------------- During the ride to the dead city, which took hours, Azad decided to question George a bit more so it wasn''t just dead silence. Pun not intended. "So what exactly are those giant knight things?" Azad asked George. "The undead knights. To put them simply, they''re are just the higher ranked knights of Tolwuun. As they were more powerful when they we turned into undead, they will naturally be more powerful than normal undead." George told Azad. "So you''re saying that the undead was that big when it was alive? Is that normal for humans here?" Azad asked doubtfully. "What makes you think that was a human undead you fought? There are more humanoid things living in this world than humans. In fact, you''ll find that humans are one of the smaller species in terms of numbers." George informed Azad as if it was obvious. "Are there elves?" Azad asked seriously. "They''re a bit different from what your world depicts them as, but they''re here." George answered amused. "And dwarves?" Azad asked with a less serious tone. "Yes. Don''t refer to them as dwarves though. Due to them being discriminated against, the name is a touchy subject amongst their people." George warned Azad. "Is there anymore fantasy races as well?" Azad questioned. "Well I wouldn''t want to ruin the surprise would I?" George teased. Thinking about how he would be able to meet different intelligent species made Azad unbelievably excited. Elves especially! What self-respecting fantasy nerd didn''t want to at least see a real elf once in there life? (Took a break to take a shower here. Sorry to break your immersion, just felt this need to be said. Expect more little comments like this in future.) Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation. Although Azad asked more questions regarding races and species, George refused to answer them, claiming to not want to ruin the fun of discovery new cultures. While not getting his questions answered did anger Azad, he had to admit he was getting excited about exploring this world. "You have to make it through Tolwuun first though." George commented. "I know... And stop reading my thoughts." Azad shot back, which only made George smile wider. It was then that Blair, who was resting on Azad''s lap, got up and began looking around. Seeing this, Azad also began searching for whatever it was that disturbed Blair. He spotted it almost immediately. Just barley within his sight was what looked to be a dot. The dot seemed to be blocking the road. "Please don''t be something dangerous." Azad pleaded to a god other than George. As Azad''s group continued down the road and the dot became clearer, it became obvious what it was. "That''s a group of undead, isn''t it?" Azad asked no one in particular. The group numbered somewhere in the teens, containing men and women of various ages. Thinking it best to stop, Azad patted the horse beast''s head and told it to stop. Once it had, he jumped off and placed Blair on the horse''s head. "You guys wait here." He told his companions before carefully walking towards the group of undead. Although he did his best to stay out of their range of detection, one of them noticed him. The one who noticed Azad raised its arm, pointing at Azad, and let out an inhuman screech like a banshee. All the undead jerked their heads towards Azad''s direction, and began charging straight towards him. "Well fuck me." Azad muttered while raising his pickaxe, preparing to defend himself. ------------------------------------------- I know we all hate cliff hangers with a passion, but I''m still getting back into the rhythm of writing so I would like to get the feeling back before attempt the fight. Also, please give me pointers on how to fix what I have done wrong with this story so far. It is needed desperately. Chapter Delayed So the fight scene is taking longer than I expected it would. Plus, a friend I haven''t seen in a while asked for me to come over so I''m going to delay the chapter a bit. Chapter 15: Dodge rolling is a learned skill. Author''s note: Hello, it''s been a bit. I meant to have this up Saturday but my internet decided it didn''t feel up to it that day. And if not for the fact that I was pissed on Sunday I would have gotten it up then. Hopefully such a thing won''t happen again. Please enjoy and point out anything I can improve upon. --------------------------------- As the group of zombies neared Azad, they split off into two groups and began flanking him. Azad noted that they still have some semblance of intelligence, before attempting the famous dodge roll to the right. Turns out, doing such a thing is way harder than they make it look in video games. Instead of landing on his feet on the other side of the zombies, Azad just landed on his back and slid a few feet before stopping. "Fuck." Azad managed to say before having to roll out of the way of a zombie''s arm swinging down on him. Now back on his feet and slightly embarrassed, Azad once more attempted to form a plan that didn''t involve dying. This was proving difficult. Before he could come up with anything useful, another arm came swinging at him, forcing him to dodge and take a few steps back. "This isn''t working!" Azad yelled at himself. Two zombies lunged at him from both sides. Azad side stepped the one to his left, causing the two zombies to bump into each other and fall to the ground. Azad saw his chance and swung down on the zombie closest to him. He had aimed for the middle of the forehead, but having not regained his balance from his amateur side step, he missed and hit the neck instead. Quickly ripping his pick from the zombies neck, he swung to the side in an attempt to kill the zombie that was almost up. Unlike his previous try, this one hit where he intended, ending the zombie. With one dead and another immobile, he now had what looked to be 13 left. Another zombie charged Azad, as if wanting to ram him. Reacting purely on instinct, Azad thrusted his pick forward like he was trying to stop the zombie with the tip. Without stopping, the zombie ran headfirst into the tool, not only caving it''s head in but also snapping it''s neck. Unfortunately for Azad, the zombie''s momentum carried the body forward, crashing into him and taking him to the ground for the second time. "Motherfucker!" Azad screamed while pushing the corpse of himself. Before he could get up, 4 zombies were upon him. One hit Azad in the face, sending him back to he ground. Azad, now with a broken and bleeding nose, was getting angrier at the situation. Once again trying to get up, Azad was this time kicked into another zombie, who was toppled with Azad on top of it. Azad took this chance and grabbed the zombie''s head and tried to smash it on the ground. It didn''t go as planned and the zombie managed to bite onto Azad''s thumb. If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. "AAAHHH!" Azad screamed In both anger and pain. With his anger rising once again, he crushed the monsters head with his hand before it could completely tear off his thumb. "Fuck it! I''m done with careful!" Azad screamed as he jumped up and pumped himself full of mana. The zombie the hit him in face attempted it again, only to suffer the same fate with it''s face torn apart with Azad''s pick. "Die!" Azad angrily cursed the undead. With those down, Azad tuned tot he ten left and raised his free hand. In front of his palm formed a white flame. "Burn in hell you god forsaken sacks of rotting flesh!" Azad said the most insulting thing he could think of in his rage as he unleashed the flame and burnt half of the group to ashes. The undead, seemingly unfazed by his anger and the death of their comrades, continued to charge him. Azad launched his foot into the stomach of the leading undead, sending it flying back in many directions. Using the momentum from his kick, Azad took a step forwards and swung his pick down onto the head of the next undead, straight down the middle of their skull. Azad then swung the pick, still stuck in the undead''s head, towards the next one, missing it and sending the one stuck to his pick off to the side. Instead of recovering his stance, Azad just flung his other arm at the undead''s head. He didn''t even bother forming a fist and just fueled his hand with mana. Instead of smashing into the undead and crushing it''s head, it cut straight through it as if it was a sword. Azad half noticed but was too angry to care and just turned to the last two. One was a bit further back than the other, which was also charging Azad. Azad dodged the tackle and swept the undead''s legs and smashed it''s head. Now with one left, Azad''s adrenaline was wearing off and he was feeling tired. Azad just grabbed the last one by it''s neck and snapped it, leaving it unable to do anything but bite. "You shouldn''t leave it alive. Well, "alive". George told Azad. "And why''s that?" Azad asked George, still slightly angry. "Because given enough time and mana, they will eventually regenerate." George informed Azad. "Fine." Azad complied as he stomped the undead''s head. "Don''t forget the other one." George pointed out. "I know." Azad replied. Azad limped over to the last remain undead before also stomping it''s head. With the fight over, Azad checked himself for injuries. He had a broken leg, arm, a few ribs, and a bump on his head. In all he felt like shit. "Don''t risk infection, go take a bath in the stream over there." George said as he pointed to the stream a bit from the road. "Good idea." Azad agreed with George for once. The rotting blood smelled terrible.
