《Amnesia can be funny!》 ch. 0 Prologue When having something to think of rather than cold is a good thing. The bad thing is that what you are thinking about is why you are out in the cold. Such were the thoughts of three little travelers, well, little by the standards of the location they were in, the highest mountain on the continent, and interestingly, the only one, so that it bore a very simpleton name, "The Mountain". Our little party consisted of not just human, it contained a dwarf and a lamia. Without too much description, one was short, hairy and lived underground, and another had half body that of the snake, and another one that of a woman, and was the type to be really, really appreaciative of her own beauty. What they were doing, you would ask? Well, officially, they were a group of adventurers sent to investigate a strange Mana that began emitting from the top of the Mountain (and yes, there is Magic in this story) some time ago, while the truth is a lee bit more interesting. "Do you know that the lamias are ccc-old bb-loodeed creatures? Then why the hhh-eck am I in this freezing ttt-o death Hh-hell?" "Oh, don''t sue me, you kkk-new that it won''t bb-e hot out there?" "Less tt-alk lasses, or your tt-ongues would freeze" "Mmm-ine has already frozen ll-long ago, and I-I-uh won''t let you ff-forget ww-hat a bb-beautiful one th-the World hh-ad lost" "All bb-but lost, Dear" "Sh-shut up, Amelia, orr-r you want me tt-to squeeze your humour out of yy-you?" (Lamias could easily shatter a stone with their long serpentine body) "Yy-eah, it''s all the better than tt-to listen to you, Priscilla" "Hush, you two, judging by how earth tt-tremors, there is something approaching from the bb-back". "Oh, it''s nice not to stutter beacause of cold in your mind" Thought Amelia, while looking around for some signs of a danger nearby. With a heavy blizzard that began raging on the Mountain the time when the strange mana appeared, the farthest she could see were the backs of her companions, who were also trying to discern something in the falling snow (or Priscilla looked like she tried, while to fix her hair under the hood). They had been escalating the mountain for 3 days already, in order to reach to strange mana source, and they haven''t seen a living thing, which was peculiar, because the Mountain, due to its solitary existence, offered a unique ecosystem that existed nowhere else, inviring all types of adventurers, for there were monsters in this area, whose dietary preferences consisted of Mana-Stones, (and of an adventurer or two) that were concealed at the base of the mountain, and presented the concentrated type of inert magic, having the skyscraping prices even for the smallest one. The most dangerous and common of the beasts were the three-headed snow-gryphon, a bird-like creature, featuring 2 sets of wings, of the size of an elephant, nests of Rock-eaters, half a man big bugs with shiny fur, their numbers reaching hundreds in one colony, Great Mountain troll, a fearful ten-humans tall existence that was so ferocious, that it ate gryphons under the Rock-eater''s sauce, and the least, but not last, was the alpha-predator, the Hydra, a many-headed monster, that could regrow its heads if they were cut off, which were already the size of a gryphon, if that tells of its size. "If our group didn''t see even one adventurer, but still the blizzard could have frightened them off, what about the monsters? And what is making the earth tremble so much?" But it looks like Amelia¡¯s male companion, a dwarf with the name of Beerley, the most experienced out there, had the same thoughts, for he began gathering the mana in his hands, because the magic in this world took form in many ways, the most common being his way or using a magical staff and saying the incantation. After a moment or, a patch of rock began turning the surrounding snowy ground and rose up to form the stony dome, while Amelia, who had a talent in illusion magic, made the walls transparent, and our lamia, Priscilla, was plucking her eyebrows, with a mirror in another hand, while being in the gloves. It looks like they got there in time, (especially Priscilla), because not a moment later, they saw a whole horde of griffins, flying low at a breakneck speed, almost touching the newly built shelter, while it shook violently, on which our group stood, as if something large bumped into it underneath, making all three of them tumble (I wouldn''t envy the lamia) like a child¡¯s toys. But it wasn¡¯t the worst thing, no far from it. All around, there were hydras, jumping out and into the snow like the fish in the sea (that''s why the dome shook), their way of moving if they wanted to be fast, intermingling with griffins, and some were even lucky to catch one, followed by Mountain trolls, running on all of their fours. While being flung up and down inside their dome, and with all of the snow that was in the air due to a stampede, Amelia and Beerley (Priscilla was sighning over her shattered mirror and fully plucked out eyebrow) could finally discern the very thing that caused all of this pandemonium: a forty-storie tall, dripping with blood of not so lucky escapees, there was a swirling mass of multitude of hydra-heads leisurely strolling towards them. ch. 1 Dont lick while in cold "What a beauty!"¡ª Thought Amelia, looking at a furry little menace that was before them: a Hydra four times the size of a normal one, this specimen had managed to scare all of the top predators in the area; Amelia, who received education at a Magic Academy, knew that there were 10 Levels of monsters, from the Many-Toothed Rabbit that accounted for twenty percent of finger loss in the country, to demonic creatures, such as the Doom Dragons or Fallen Angels; To combat these monsters, there existed three types of fighters: adventurers, from Lv one to four, Knights, up to Lv 8, and Heroes, up to Lv 10. This rating system presumed that each fighter level had the same battle power as its monster counterpart. A monster level higher could only be matched by ten fighters a level lower, while a level higher still required a force of one hundred. In the region of the Mountain, it wasn''t frequent that you could find a knight, for the highest level monster there was Hydra, with the Lv of four, and because they lived in large groups, an adventurer party consisted of twenty or so members. But the Giant Hydra before them could have been easily placed into Lv five, if not into six, because it was not easy to scare tens of its own, and hundreds of Trolls and griffins. And so, the little party could already cover themselves with spices, but Hydra just observed them, or rather than that, it observed a transparent dome. In a Giant Hydra¡¯s mind, and yes, monsters were acutely intelligent, it has first seen something that shone so pretty from sun rays, not a boring glimmer of a white untouched snow. All of its heads had turned toward its new toy, observing it more closely, just until the moment when one of them had tried to lick the surface. It worked, and lick covered a half of the dome. The problem was in the following: Up high in the mountain reigned extreme temperatures, and when Giant Hydra tried to pull off one of its tongues, it couldn¡¯t for it had STUCK. Panicked, our Giant Hydra (but not as much as our guys inside) flailed up and down, left and right, trying to snap the dome with its other heads, but couldn¡¯t, due to a fear of biting its other head off. But because it didn¡¯t know physics, after a rather violent jerk (and meal that vomited our little ones), the dome had been sent flying high into the air, with a Hydra¡¯s tongue free of charge. While the people inside tried not to break their necks in a rotating frisbee, they hadn¡¯t noticed that they were being hurled right into the eye of the snow blizzard, to the Mountain¡¯s highest point. They finally landed, breaking deep into the snow and rock underneath, but it didn¡¯t end their flight, for it looks like the layer was thin, and they continued falling down for a few more heartbeats until touching the ground and rolling over some times more. ? Well, that was a Ride! Can we do that again, and also, we got that Hydra¡¯s tongue as a souvenir! ?¡ª uttered Amelia, who was rather joyful and adventurous at heart, which could be clearly seen in extreme situations like these. ? Oh, come on, how is that you can talk? We could have killed ourselves, and couldn¡¯t you transform the Dome into something less flashy, to not make the Hydra so excited? Or just Camouflage us into a surrounding snow? And my clothes are ruined: just look at these cramps and¡? The author''s tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. ? As if I could see them, with the only light filtering through the hole that we made flying to here in passing, and what have you done then, snakie, and why not suggested this at that time or made something useful? ? ? Said the Tomboy, at least I look like a¡ ? ? I am sorry to break up your conversation, lasses, but oxygen is getting low, and as I think that my patience is already wearing up. Priscilla, make a fire to illuminate where we are (she has a fire speciality) and Amelia, I know that we had already alerted with all of this crushing-around the possible monsters that live here, but be ready to cover our retreat.?¡ª ordered Beerley (who was also a mentor of the two girls), while disintegrating the dome that could crack open with a lightest touch due to all he punishment that it received during its very short live, while adventurers left a giant tongue behind and advanced forward. By the looks of it, they got into an ancient Temple, that had a circular form and had a set of columns sustaining it, leading to its center, them being so high that very choir in the world would fight to death in order to have such an acoustic. The stone was carved right from the mountain, and with the information facilitated by Beerley, it was so smooth and right, that it looked as if it was a temple built in a Dragon Era, a time long forgotten, when these mighty creatures lived alongside the people, until they have been corrupted by an evil force. After not a long walking session, our group reached the center, where they stood deciding what to do next. ?Well, I think that our mission is completed, as the mana concentration here is a lot higher, and we can inform the Academy, so that they send researchers and a knight or two to deal with the Giant Hydra. and we can go home, for even if it isn¡¯t as cold out here as outside, I still miss my bathtub with hot water. ? ? Priscilla, remember me to bring it on the next mission ? ? Oh, thanks, Teacher, that¡¯s so generous of you! ?¡ª said Priscilla, while imagining enjoying herself while the others carried her bathtub ? ? But knowing Beerley, he would surely bring the bathtub, but only filled with beer and a hairy female dwarf inside! ? ? Yuck! How can you be so cruel? ? But Priscilla¡¯s, or this line could also go to Beerley (for the idea of only ONE hairy female inside the bathtub absolutely abhorred him), couldn¡¯t be heard, because of something enormous crashing into the Temple¡¯s ceiling, and then falling to the ground, near the Adventurers and reeling to them. And yes, it was our old friend, the Giant Hydra. But before the battle could commence, the enormous monster lurched back, and fled into the opposite direction, through the hole where it came through. The group¡¯s joy was short, because there was someone standing beside them. Ch. 2 A gallant chocolate-eater. "I am sorry, but who you might be?"¡ª asked Amelia, while facing the stranger that may have scared the Hydra. He was clad in black armor from head to toes, without and inch of body visible, and in his eye slits thee was only darkness. There was no response. "Maybe it''s just a suit of armor?"¡ª asked Priscilla, edging closer. "Whatever it is, girls, do you feel that the strange mana, that we have been sent to investigate is gone? Maybe it is somehow related to this artifact?"¡ª theorized Beerley, while reaching down for his flask of "thinking". "Well, we can see what is it by the ultimate way."¡ª said Amelia, walking straight to the object in question. Stopping only as her nose barely touched it''s helmet, she got out a very small package, of the size of a thumb, unpacked it, and produced a brown-coloured something out of it. "It¡¯s called chocolate."¡ª said she. "It''s very popular in the capital, and you can also add it to many other dishes, making them even more delicious! ?¡ª She said slowly, hoping that she would be understood. Then she opened her mouth and ate a little bit from it. "Do you the want the other half? In big quantities it isn''t good for your figure and the other two didn¡¯t behave well during the journey, so I will give it to you to taste it, all right?? Mostly expecting this to be a joke and a way to scoff her companions, Amelia jumped back a little bit when the casque opened in half, exposing two rows of sharp teeth, each a finger long, offering a sight of a decaying flesh inside its mouth. After a show this gruesome, Amelia was taken back a little bit, but still gave (slowly) a piece of chocolate, after a moment of indecisiveness, to an armored hand that the creature had the time to outstretch to her. Having received its present, it put it into its opened mouth (it remained like that all the time). Snapping it sharply, the creature made strange movements with its head, swishing it right and left, as if it had something very hot or very cold in its mouth, but then suddenly stopped, knees sagging as with the pleasure, then it straightened up its posture and began making noises (strangely, then helmet didn¡¯t move) that resembled speech ¡ª?
