《The Exalted》 Prologue A. N. : I''m an amateur writer and this is the first story I''ve written, so don''t have any high expectations. Constructive criticisms are welcomed; it''ll help me improve after all. ------------------------ The Forest of Asteria holds lots of mysteries. Anomalies in the Forest that cannot be explained are the result from lingering cosmic energy few know. Some say that an object from the stars fell on a barren land hundreds of thousands of years ago, and throughout eons it created a dense forest that devours anyone who voyages inside it. Massive trees tower in the skies blocks out the sun turning the forest floor into a sea of darkness. Creatures of legends number in great quantities populate the onerous forest. Monsters out of nightmares and creature that can shake the very foundation of the world lurk in the darkness of the Forest. Such dangers can only allow few to traverse the Forest of Asteria. Many armies have tried to invade the forest to prospect for resources, but the density of the forest prevents them from forming a suitable formation to defend against creatures that on their own, can wipe out a small army. As a result, it has been ignored¡ by most. *** The captain of the guards, Tyvollus contemplates about the unusual and unnerving quietness in the forest. His usually calm demeanor was nowhere to be found. His sharp looking eyes darts back and forth to every slightest movement as his group travels through dense trees that blocks out majority of the light. His group of guards, numbering at 6 including him is escorting Amara, the daughter of the village chief of Mytethnaes. The group is returning to Mytethnae after they visited a neighboring village, Casaluna which was only half a day of walking distance apart from each other. Amara was visiting her uncle in Casaluna to check on the progress of his research. Tyvollus looks at Amara, a young looking beautiful female elf, with long mint green hair, dark blue eyes that would rival a sapphire, flawless fair skin, and a body with perfect proportions. She is dressed in a dark blue dress that¡¯s covered by a purple cloak. He notices her attention was somewhere else. ¡°Lady Amara, please be careful. This forest has been strange lately. ¡± ¡°Yes, Sir Tyvollus. I am just curious that¡¯s all,¡± She snaps back to attention. Tyvollus looks towards the direction to where Amara was originally looking. It was a small open area surrounded by dense trees, in the middle, was an old large tree stump about 30 meters in circumference and 2 meters tall. The parting of the trees in the open area allows rays of sunlight to bathe the old tree stump that is isolated by the other trees. He then signals the 5 other guards with him to form a defensive formation. ¡®What was the young Lady Amara looking at? I¡¯m quite confident with my sensing skills, yet something got her attention without me noticing it.¡¯ He thought to himself--!!! Noticing a slight disturbance at the direction Tyvollus was looking at, the guards unsheathe their weapons preparing for anything that may come forth. But nothing came. It was deathly quiet, but they could not sense anything. They waited, and waited. The unusual noise happened periodically. It was unnerving for the guards. They were elites that lived for hundreds of years, elves being born of the forest allow them to have a better grasp of their surrounds, they have experienced many things in Forest of Asteria, yet they could not sense anything or anyone that made the slight disturbance. They knew something was there, but they could not sense it. Amara noticed the guards¡¯ actions and stayed silent. She never in her 82 years with the elite guards has seen such a serious and nervous look on their faces, even during encounters with powerful creatures. ¡®What has gotten the elite guards this nervous? Even the time when we encountered a pack of hellhounds, or even during the time we encountered a wandering Nemean Lion did they not act like this. Even though the Nemean Lion just ignored us, such a legendary creature could kill off an army, a Blue ranked creature.¡¯ She thought to herself. Sweat and a worrying expression plaster on her face, but she didn¡¯t ask any questions because she knew that if she did it would only disturb their concentration or alarm whatever was by the tree stump. She quietly waited for what seemed like hours. ¡°I¡¯ll go and check the source of the commotion.¡± One of the elite guards slowly moved towards the noise. His eyes were sharp, carefully analysing everything around his surroundings. His posture was like predator moving towards its prey, ready to attack at any time. ***POV ELITE GUARD*** ¡®I¡¯ve never felt this nervous in my life. I could tell that everyone including the captain was nervous. Why? This is strange. Maybe it¡¯s because I can¡¯t sense this thing. I should be able to sense it. All creatures have mana prints, and I should be able to sense it¡¯s mana with my high sensory skill. My sensing ability should be able to pick up something especially if I know it¡¯s there. Perhaps it was a tree branch that fell. No. I would still be able to sense it. Whatever I¡¯m dealing with must be a master at conceal his presence even after being ¡°revealed¡±, an archmage?¡¯ Sweat trickled down my forehead as I crept towards the large tree stump where the noise was coming form. My nervousness was there, but it did not affect my quick acting mind and kill-ready form. I stepped towards the open area. The rays of light gleamed against my armor. Like the rest of the guards and every soldier in Mytethnaes, my body was covered by black leather armor with silver plating that had intricate engravings on the chest, shoulders, forearms, thighs and the shin of my boots. The only thing that differed among us was the insignia that¡¯s placed on our left chest and shoulder which signifies our standings. The trees surrounding the open area and the tree stump were troublesome. If a surprise attack were to happen I would be a sitting duck. I carefully made my way forward and the entire tree stump eventually came into view. As I got closer to the anomaly, I was able to now faintly sense a strange mana-like energy. After a while of treading carefully around the tree stump, the back of the tree stump came into view. There I saw what we were afraid of. *** ¡°Tanithil, what¡¯s wrong!?¡± Tyvollus shouted worriedly. The elite guard that investigated the strange commotion stood like a statue. Worried looks were on everyone¡¯s faces. ¡°It¡¯s alright, but you need to come and see this,¡± at the reply of Tanithil everyone relaxed and sighed in relief, but did not drop their vigilance. Amara was the first to move. The guards quickly followed and surrounded her making sure that she was safe from harm. They quickly made their way towards Tanithil. Amara¡¯s eyes sparkled in excitement as she was curious on what he had discovered. She is young and because of this she is constantly getting into trouble; always doing things that would give her father a heart attack every second. This trait of hers earned 6 elite guards to always keep her safe. ¡°¡ ¡± No one said a word when everyone saw the source of the commotion. Amara¡¯s eyes widen in surprise at what she saw. ****Amara¡¯s father POV**** ¡®My dear daughter should be returning home today. I just hope that she stays out of trouble.¡¯ I let out a sigh of defeat. I made plans to go to the barrack today. I needed to check up on the security around our walls and our fighting forces in Legion Three again. Many dangerous creatures have been popping up lately. This is the Forest of Asteria, and although there are many dangerous creatures that reside in this forest, they would normally leave our race, the elves, ¡°alone¡± or rather, we are just lucky to not encounter them so often. For thousands of years many elves have made the Forest of Asteria their home. It is quite unknown even to us that the infamous forest welcomes the elven race ¨C or at least not be so hostile towards us. This provided a perfect place for the elven race to make their homes. Other races aside from the fairies are not usually welcomed by the Forest of Asteria; if they were to enter, they would be like magnets that attract monsters. Only powerful beings that could hide their presence would be able to negate that magnetic effect. As I exited my manor, two guards dressed in fine black leather armor made their way to my sides. Their armors are made out of hellhounds. Hides from hellhounds are extremely hard and resistant to physical and magical attacks. It also has high attributes to fire, death and dark magic. They are very rare creature on many parts of the world. But they are plenty in this forest. It makes me wonder because they are said to be the protectors of the supernatural; guarding the secrecy of supernatural creatures, or beings, from the world. This forest truly holds lots of mysteries. What are they protecting in this forest? Whatever they¡¯re protecting it must be one of the safest things in the world. I can¡¯t imagine stealing something from a horde of hellhounds. Just looking at it in the eyes a few times can bring certain death by a death curse. I cleared my prior thoughts and continued towards the northern part of the village where the barrack was located. I was greeted by bows by many villagers as I walked along the streets littered with people. As I observed my surroundings I couldn¡¯t help but smile at the joyous and friendly atmosphere. I saw group of children playing by the fields near a small creek. Villagers were exchanging friendly chatter. They all greeted me with reverence. I admired how the village has progressed over the centuries. Not a single person in the village was poor. We all lived wonderful lives for centuries ¨C ever since my father led a group of survivors from one of the elven cities to this place. Mytethnaes was a beautiful village. It was surrounded by magically enhanced 15 meter tall and 3 meter thick walls. The buildings were made out of strong white stones that were easy on the eyes, lush green vegetation everywhere created an aesthetic contrast to the architect and color of the buildings. It was more like a very small city rather than a village. After a few minutes of walking had passed, the barrack finally came into view. It was a large building surrounded by a magically reinforced 10 meter tall stone wall that was 2 meters thick. As I entered through a large gate, guards stationed formed their right hand into a fist and placed it on their chest. Inside the walls was a large field meant for training and military use that was 200 meters by 100 meters. I shifted my gaze towards the training area, the western side of the barrack; many soldiers were sparring with each other in the field. I stopped my tracks when I noticed two distinct pair. One pair of soldiers that were sparring with each other was quite amazing. Their names were Zaos Kearoris and Ryfon Daesatra. Zaos had long blonde hair with sharp facial features. Ryfon had short auburn hair with fierce yet enchanting eyes. The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation. I observed their fight. *** The practice ground of the barrack was flooded with explosive sounds from magic and metals colliding with each other as soldiers sparred and trained. ¡°Hey Zaos, Let¡¯s do a little sparring.¡± Zaos let out a sigh and agreed to Ryfon¡¯s statement. They made their way towards the far west of the training ground where few people were located at. Both elves glared at each other. Zaos created a Water Ball the size of a fist from magic. ¡°Once this Water Ball hits the ground, it will signal the start of our little sparring.¡± Ryfon nodded in agreement. Zaos took a deep breath and launched the Water Ball into the air. As the Water Ball was falling the two unsheathed their weapons and stared daggers at each other. After a few seconds the Water Ball broke on impact from the collision of the ground. Loud booms reverberated around the surroundings followed by surges of powerful air. Zaos and Ryfon were 20 meters apart, but that was covered in one fourth of a second (200mph/300kmh) by Ryfon when launched himself towards Zaos. During Ryfon¡¯s charge, Zaos used his long sword to parry one of the two short swords Ryfon had while dodging the second blade. During this time Ryfon followed up by a series of slashes while moving around Zaos trying to look for any openings. But Zaos stood his ground and blocked every strike Ryfon delivered. Ryfon continued his barrage of strikes trying to overwhelm Zaos. But he could not land a single hit. This did not worry him though. It took a lot more power and energy to block two short swords with a long sword than to strike with two short swords. If he continued this, he would most likely out endure Zaos. But he kept his composed demeanour. The fight was far from over. He knew best how excellent Zaos is in swordsmanship. The fight caught the attention of everyone in the training area. The surrounding soldiers watched in silence. Most of the spectators were new and had yet to see one of their commanders going what they assumed to be all out. Their eyes widen trying to observe the spectacle before them. They had uneasy eyes because of the unknown elf, but when they realized that some of their superiors in the training area did nothing and just observed the fight, they did not interfere and instead they struggled to observe the two blurring bodies. The soldiers were at awe by the defence their commander, Zaos, displayed. He was like an immovable fortress with his blade that danced around him while being bombarded by hurricanes of strikes. They were also in astonishment by the unknown elf that was like the embodiment of a tornado. The fight continued for 40 minutes. Neither of the elves had yet to land a single blow. Everyone in the training area was dumbfounded. They could not believe how long the two elves fought while maintaining the same absurd amount of skill and power. Zaos started to sweat and breathe heavily, his muscles ached from fatigue. He was getting overwhelmed. He could tell that Ryfon improved since the last time they sparred which was 50 years ago. He knew the difference in strength and experience was now showing. ¡®Ryfon did some serious training while he was wandering around the world¡¯. He thought to himself. After a few more minutes Ryfon stopped his attacks and put some distance between Zaos and himself. Both elves were drenched in sweat and their chest heaved rapidly. But it was clear who won. Zaos knew he utterly lost. The only reason he was left unscathed was because it was only a sparring session. He could also tell that Ryfon held back and he was only doing it to exercise his skills. ¡°You¡¯ve improved, Ryfon.¡± Zaos and Ryfon turned their heads at the direction of the comment. ¡°Chief Agis.¡± Zaos bowed. Agis nodded and Zaos took his leave. ¡°Father, it¡¯s good to see you!¡± Ryfon had a big smile across his face. ¡°Likewise,¡± Agis replied with a stoic expression. But deep inside he was glad he was well. ¡°I see¡ How is my sister, Amara?¡± ¡°She went to Casaluna to check on my brother¡¯s research. She should be back today. Now, try not to cause any trouble I have to speak to the generals.¡± Agis prepared to take his leave but stopped when he noticed that Ryfon was going to follow him. ¡°I won¡¯t cause any trouble.¡± ******Agis POV***** It was mid-afternoon when I finally finished the meeting with the Four Generals. The generals had the same report as yesterdays. More monsters have been cited by the walls and in the northern area of the forest. But it was nothing the Legion Three couldn¡¯t handle. There are 4 legions in our military. Legion One operates inside the village; they number at 100. Legion Two, guards the walls and are excellent in defending; they number at 400. Legion Three operates outside the village to hunt, scout, exterminate and defend; they number at 500. Legion Four is the elites and there are only 50 of them. Each legion has their own general which consists of the Four Generals. The village¡¯s armed forces are impressive. I would bet that they could hold off on their own against a demon army of the same number ¨C not including Legion Four. After the meeting I made my way back to my manor with Ryfon and my 2 guard which I don¡¯t really need. Along the way Ryfon told me about his experiences when he was traveling around the world in the past 10 years. But he stopped soon after he started. He said that he¡¯d wait during dinner when Amara will be around. He¡¯s changed so much. He almost seems like a different person from 50 years ago. His eyes now show a very strong character. If you were to look in his eyes, it would seem like you were looking at someone who has experience true horror and beauty in the world. It¡¯s hard to believe he could change this much in such a short time. When I think back to the time when he left 50 years ago I wasn¡¯t too happy. Even though he was not my real son, I treated him like he was my own. Curse that old geezer. One of the elders filled his head with things about the world which sparked his curiosity; he wanted to see the world with his own eyes instead of reading it from books and hearing about it from that old geezer. And now, his curiosity and adventurous nature has rubbed off on my dear daughter. At least he visited regularly. But I start worry when he hadn¡¯t visited for an irregularly long time. When we finally arrived to my manor, I noticed the 6 personal guards of my dear daughter were stationed by the gate. ¡®She must be here¡¯. The 6 elite guards formed their right hand into a fist and placed it on their chest as I neared them. I nodded, and they relaxed their posture. ¡°I hope there weren¡¯t any problems during my dear daughter¡¯s journey.¡± I noticed something was off. ¡°Well¡ we did come across something unexpected.¡± Tyvollus stepped forward. ¡°But don¡¯t worry no harm befell on Lady Amara.¡± ¡°Good,¡± I answered satisfied. But I did not further question them. I got the impression that my dear daughter would have something to do with that ¡°something unexpected¡±. And whatever it was, I have the impression that I would soon find out¡ from her. ¡°Ryfon?¡± Tyvollus questioned with a confused face. The 6 elite guards opened their mouth in disbelief. ¡°It¡¯s good to see you all again.¡± Ryfon smiled. They have known each other for over a century so I let them be and started toward the entrance of my manor. Ryfon noticed my disappearance. ¡°Sorry, I need to greet my sister. I¡¯ll talk to everyone later.¡± Ryfon made his way behind and I opened the entrance to my manor. After Ryfon and I entered the manor, we were greeted by maids near the entrance with a bow. Some of the maids widen their eyes at the sight of Ryfon. Not because he was handsome, but because of his return; this surprised them. ¡°Where is my dear daughter?¡± One of the maids replied. ¡°Lady Amara is in her room fixing herself after the long travel. Would you like me to get her after she is finished?¡± ¡°Yes, do that.¡± ******** Chapter 3 Agis made my way to the living room and sat on his comfy chair by a big window. Ryfon sat on the couch to the front right of Agis and they waited for Amara in awkward silence. Agis was the first to break the silence. ¡°I¡¯m surprised you¡¯re not dead yet considering some of the places you went to in your travels that you mentioned to me earlier.¡± Ryfon let out a sigh. ¡°I know you¡¯re still mad about my decision and the now long visit, but you knew that I can¡¯t¡ªthis place¡ This place was not for me. I¡¯ve always desired to have something fulfilling and this place could not do fulfil that. I don¡¯t regret my choice; although sometimes I do. But I would not have changed what happened back then given the chance.¡± Agis noticed a small slightly hidden smile on his face. ¡°And there are still many, many things I have yet experienced.¡± ¡°I¡¯m not mad ¨C just upset.¡± He stared at the floor in front of him then faced him. ¡°I¡¯m just upset. It¡¯s good to see you again, son.¡± During their wait, quick and rhythmic thuds could be heard at the direction of the stairs. Ryfon and Agis turned their gazes towards the cheek flushed girl with lime green hair in a white dress that stopped at her knees. Her chest was moving up and down rapidly from the heavy breathing. And she had a big smile on her face. ¡°Father you¡¯re he¡ªDear brother!¡± In an instant she lounged her body for an embrace from her brother. Ryfon put his arms out with a smile. ¡°Oh, how much I¡¯ve I missed you, my dear sister. And I am truly sorry.¡± Sniffles and soft sobs could be heard from Amara. Her body shook from the irregular breathing caused by her sobbing. ¡°Why have you not visited for the past 10 years?¡± Amara stared directly at Ryfon while still in his arms. Her eyes were filled with tears as she held the rest like a dam, but it looked like it was ready to flood her more so flushed cheeks. She had heard how dangerous it is in some part of the world. When her brother had not visited for his visit that he does every five years, she feared for the worse. ¡°I¡¯m really sorry. I did not mean to worry you. Things just came up. I¡¯d be happy to tell you the things that had happened over the past 10 years. I think you¡¯ll enjoy.¡± Agis had a defeated look. He knew the reason his daughter was so curious and adventurous. ¡°Oh, and I¡¯ve decided to stay here for a couple years.¡± Ryfon¡¯s expression visibly darkened as his eyes grew distant. Agis and Amara immediately noticed this change and was about to comment but decided to not say a word feeling that it would be improper to pry. To this, Amara struggled to get out of Ryfon¡¯s grasp which left a saddened expression on his face. She then put on a smile that lightened the entire room. ¡°I have to tell you and father something.¡± Chapter 1 Rapid droplets hitting against the leaves of trees created a hypnotic and calming noise. The ground below was covered with puddles of water. Very soft and muffled splashes could be heard as two distinct figures ran through a sea of colossal trees. The figure slightly ahead had short auburn hair with fierce yet enchanting crimson eyes. He was very handsome even among his very beautiful race, the elves. He was outfitted in expensive looking black leather armor that had a tinge of dark brown where the black leather did not cover, and dark grey pants. His boots and bracers were made out of the same material as his chest piece armor. The second figure had a very similar toned body as the other figure that was ahead of him. But he completely looked different from the elf. He had a very light grey skin color, his ears were similar to that of an elf, his eyes were as black as obsidian, but it shone when light struck it, his hair, similar color as his eyes, were short but not too short. And just like the other figure, he had striking features. What clearly defined him from the first figure was his attire. He did not have any armor. On his feet were high quality dark brown leather boots. He wore black pants. Around his waist was a black leather belt with a small pouch attached to it. On his upper body was a long-sleeved dark crimson shirt. Both figures looked like they were in their mid-twenties. But their real age says otherwise. The two figures continued traveling at breakneck speed. To normal people, they would be blurs. Upon a closer inspection, they made their way through the dense forest with sharp and deadly eyes. ¡°Ryfon,¡± The second figure spoke as placed his right hand on his silver greatsword that was attached on his back. ¡°Yes, I know. This will be tiresome. Aesar, do you think that you can take on that orthrus while I take on the other hellhounds?¡± ¡°I am not sure. I think it¡¯d be best if we take it on together,¡± Aesar, the second figure, spoke. The two were after a group of hellhounds that were closely located north of their village. They took it upon themselves as usual to exterminate incredibly dangerous creatures. The creature they¡¯re hunting, hellhounds, were ominous, supernatural dogs with mangled black fur, glowing red eyes, super strength or speed, ghostly or phantom characteristics, and had a foul odor. Staring into their eyes was deadly, for they can place a death curse if stared into the eyes multiple times. They swiftly manoeuvred through the trees like the way water flows around rocks. Various creatures came into view but were ignored which established their lack of danger. After about 10 minutes, Aesar and Ryfon unsheathed their weapons when they spotted a small clear ahead of them. With Aesar¡¯s keen senses and Ryfon¡¯s sensory skills, they were able to perceive reams of hellhounds located at the small clearing ahead. There was no point in surveying the situation. They figured that with so many hellhounds, even if they try to hide their presence, they would soon be discovered, leaving them at a disadvantageous situation. Hellhounds have keen senses. They could sense a single mouse in a forest 100 meters away. Their plan was to quickly dispose multiplicity of hellhounds with a surprise attack. Upon entering the small clearing in the forest at an astonishing speed, they were greeted by a pack of hellhounds that numbered at 30. To the right area of the pack was a two-headed hellhound, an Orthrus. Their eyes widen in surprise for a brief moment, as they were not expecting so many hellhounds in one place. Calm, sharp and calculating eyes soon plastered on their faces. In a split second, the two exploded with power. Ryfon used his mana to enhance his body to make it become more durable, faster and stronger. Like lightning, he struck a group of hellhound to his left, causing a loud boom and crunch to reverberate through the air. Bellow him, was now a mangled pile of flesh on top a crater. Soon after the impact, he bent down low and charged at the next hellhound, slicing its throat with slight resistance. His short sword did not allow him to make a deep cut so he soon followed by spinning to slash with his other short sword where the wound on the neck of the hellhound was located. The head of the hellhound slowly fell off its body. Before its head could hit the ground, Ryfon had already killed 3 more hellhounds. Ryfon continued his fury of devastation. While he decimated more and more hellhounds, he could hear loud thunders that he did not create. In the corner of his eyes, he could see a tall figure, bathed in blood with obsidian like eyes. The rain slowly washed off the blood-soaked figure, revealing a cold and spine-chilling expression. He looked like a real monster among the plethora hellhounds. What lay waste before him was complete destruction. Black objects on the ground were littered everywhere; heads, limbs, and other body part of the hellhounds blanked the area. Blood flowing from the chopped and mangled bodies created a dark red lake. Ryfon could only shudder as he slayed the remaining hellhounds on his side. Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on the original website. What once was a small clearing was now a large field. Large chunks of the forest were no more. The entire area was littered with large chunks of trees and crater-filled ground. Ryfon observed the fight between Aesar and the Orthrus. The fight was intense and he feared the he may hinder Aesar if he were to just interfere. So, he decided to wait for the right moment to assist. Aesar¡¯s long sleeve shirt was torn to shreds. He was now topless, only a necklace was on his upper half. Although his shirt was shredded, not a single scratch was on him. With a single strike, the Orthrus severed a large tree 15 meters in circumference from its stump, sending it flying 100 meters away. Its large body thrice the size of a horse was nimble and incredibly fast. In a swift motion it charged at Aesar who was able to dodge the last strike. Nearing Aesar, the Orthrus swiped downwards to where Aesar was at. Aesar dodged the strike with paper margin and took its miss as his chance to strike diagonally at the neck of the Orthrus. With his strike, he managed to cut deep on the right side of the monstrous dog¡¯s neck. But it did not finish it off; as it briskly shifted its entire body away from the swing preventing Aesar¡¯s slash from doing critical damage. During the entire battle, the Orthrus landed several strikes on Aesar with its sharp, dagger like claws. But Aesar¡¯s wounds would soon heal after receiving it. The Orthrus could tell that the opponent before him was not someone it could defeat. As if it was acting on instinct, the Orthrus quickly bolted away from danger, the man that it could not do any harm. Ryfon, noticing the monster¡¯s intention quickly intervened and tried to land a strike. The Orthrus sensed his approach and swiftly jumped up, avoiding the strike. The creature no longer had any footing which prevented it from effectively sifting its body. Taking this chance, Aesar, who made his way in front of the beast to cut off its escape, swung his large silver greatsword. With a large yet quick swing from Aesar¡¯s silver greatsword, he managed to slice off the front left of the Orthrus¡¯ leg as it tried to pounce on him while in mid-air. A loud howl of agony could be heard from the Orthrus. But it was soon silenced when its head was removed from its body. ¡°Phew. Slicing its head off was incredibly hard. I had to infuse a great deal of mana on my weapon to cleanly slice it off,¡± Ryfon said with a big smile across his face. ¡°Yeah, those hellhound furs are impressively tough. To think, that all of our village¡¯s soldiers have them.¡± ¡°Definitely. And as I¡¯ve said before, those furs are very rare outside of our village. Having an army armored in hellhound leather is a sight to see.¡± ¡°It¡¯s still hard to believe that not many can get its hide. Hellhounds must indeed be very rare outside this forest.¡± ¡®Well nephew, they are certainly rare outside this forest, but one of the other main reasons is because not many can kill them. Sheesh, you¡¯re truly powerful, dear nephew,¡¯ Ryfon thought to himself and did not respond to Aesar¡¯s ignorant statement. The two then gazed around the devastated area and stared to contemplate. Both knew what each other were thinking. How and why were there so many hellhounds appearing ¨C not to mention the appearance of a legendary creature, the Orthrus. After a brief silence, the two looked at each other, only to find the same concluded face; they did not know the answer. There have been times when Aesar and Ryfon would attempt to delve deeper north into the forest to find information, but dragons from the mountain ranges and various other powerful creatures deterred them. Not to mention Amara forbade them. 15 years ago, when the two attempted to go further north, they met a colossal hydra. Its body could be called a small mountain, and its heads were as large as houses. The fight lasted an eighth of a day (4 hours). They wore out the multi-headed serpent drastically while they were constantly bombarded by smaller hydras, 1/6th the sized of the larger one. Eventually, Aesar and Ryfon retreated at a sight of an even larger hydra appearing. They haven¡¯t attempted to try again since that day, but they were confident with their current status in trying again. What prevented them was Amara. With the task done, they made their way back home where a certain someone was constantly worrying. Behind them was now a very horrifying, large bald spot in the forest littered in large black, mangled bodies of hellhounds. Chapter 2 In a large room, four figures sat around a large dark wooden, rectangular table. The room was simple. There were no paintings or any decorations; only a large table with four seats on each side was the only thing placed inside the room. Directly in front of the exit was a large window that stretched horizontally which provided a simple aesthetic. It exhibited a great view of the lush green and colourful garden as it also welcomed rays of light enter the room. The four figures were wearing black leather armor with bronze-colored plating on their chest and shoulders. On their faces were stoic expressions, as if they were waiting for someone. The only female in the room stood up and started to stretch out her arms, letting out a soft moan. She then sat in her seat. ¡°When will Zaos come here to report?¡± the female elf spoke in a slight irritated tone. ¡°We¡¯re just early, Mylaela. That¡¯s all,¡± an elf to her right replied. The one spoke, Rhalyf, was right. Everyone in the room had nothing better to do so they meet earlier than usual hoping to get reports about Aesar and Ryfon going after the Orthrus. After a few more minutes, their eyes showed color. Soon after, a knock could be heard towards the door that was behind the female elf. ¡°Enter,¡± a tall elf, 2 meters tall with a large toned body, stood directly across the table from the female elf and stared directly at the person who entered the room. His imposing face gave an overwhelming sense of authority. And his silver hair aired out wisdom. The person who entered gave a low bow and waited for further instructions. ¡°Zaos, report,¡± the imposing figure spoke in a deep booming voice. ¡°Yes, general Ralnor. They arrived back early in the morning. They were able to slay that Orthrus beast,¡± Zaos replied with a stern tone. He continued, ¡°When I went to the chief Agis¡¯ manor to wait for them there till they returned from their hunt, I was greeted by Ryfon. Apparently, they left early and had already disposed of the Orthrus and a pack of 30 other hellhounds.¡± ¡°30 hellhounds!?¡± Rhalyf and Mylaela both replied in unison with a dumbfounded expression. ¡°What are so many hellhounds doing around in the north?¡± Mylaela questioned then questioned again, ¡°and how were Aesar and Ryfon able to kill 30 and that monstrous creature, the Orthrus?¡± she continued and said under her breath, ¡°I knew they¡¯re very strong ¨C almost impossibly strong in fact, but¡¡± she trailed off as she contemplated. At this, Ralnor continued his extraction of information, ¡°I see. I¡¯ll get the finer details later. If you were able to get information from Ryfon so early, than why didn¡¯t you report sooner?¡± Ryfon continued his report, ¡°After I got the details of the extermination from Ryfon, I personally went to the scene of where the even took place.¡± Ryfon then said, ¡°Those are the important details, should I continue the finer ones?¡± ¡°If it¡¯s not important, we¡¯ll continue this later,¡± stated Ralnor. ¡°Wait, I want to know more,¡± Mylaela rejected and Rhalyf quickly agreed with her. The other general stayed silent. At the two elves¡¯ remark, Ralnor said, ¡°I, too, want to know more details, but it can wait till this evening,¡± he then reasoned, ¡°I need to check up on our military and improvise some things. With 30 hellhounds being discovered and bigger fishes appearing, I¡¯ll need to work on a lot of things; not just in our village, but also in the other villages,¡± Ralnor then made an even clearer statement than before, ¡°We¡¯ll continue this in the evening.¡± *** Inside a large manor that seemed to be made out of white limestone, a female elf, Amara, had a furious yet worried expression on her face. This however, did not negatively affect her beautiful face. In fact, the expression she was making was incredibly charming. In front the infuriated elf was two depressed figures with their head down, Aesar and Ryfon. Their faces had defeated looks. They had planned to keep their outing a secret from Amara to prevent worrying her, so they left early in the morning hoping not to get caught. But life was not so simple. Earlier in the day, when Amara decided to check on their usual training early in the morning, she did not see anyone, so she immediately knew something was off. Aesar and Ryfon trained everyday early in the morning after all. After briefly waiting in Aesar and Ryfons¡¯ personal training area outside the village gates, two nervously looking figures approached her. The stares of her eyes could melt iron. But a worried expression soon plastered on her face when Aesar¡¯s entire body came into view. Though he did not have any wounds, Amara knew his ability and what the dark crimson, shredded fabric on his body meant. Her heart gave out at the sight of her son. She could only guess what pain he went through to be in such a state. Now in the manor, the three continued to stay silent. Amara¡¯s silence sent a deep message to the two dishevelled elves. ¡°Fix yourselves and we will talk after,¡± Amara¡¯s furious and worried expression soon turned dejected after her words. While waiting, Amara thought back to the time when she first found Aesar who at the time, looked no older than 10 months old; he had no one with him, only the tree stump next was his company in the forest. Regardless of his situation he just smiled on the tall lush green grass. When she first laid eyes on Aesar, anger and downheartedness filled her soul. To see an abandoned child in a very dangerous place caused her fragile heart to ache in pain and burn in anger. From that day on, she decided to take him in as her family. Even though she was young in elven standard, she was prepared to do what it took to care for the baby boy. The guards with her warned her of his unknown origin and circumstances and should be careful. Being the elite guards they were, they did lot let anything cloud their judgement and considered everything. In the village, many elves had raised eyebrows when Amara had adopted an unknown baby. The baby was of unknown origin. Even the elders and well-informed elves did not know what race was the boy. What¡¯s more, the baby boy did not have mana, but had a different form of energy inside him. However, her family and the rest of the village were open about her new baby. Although at first, through misunderstanding, her father, Agis, erupted like a raging volcano. He was out for blood; some of the words said by Amara trying to explain the situation fell into deaf ear. But the situation was soon cleared at the sight of the baby boy. From the sight of the baby boy, he pieced the information together. Amara¡¯s pink, luscious lips curved up into a smile as she continued to reminisce. Throughout the years, Amara continued to raise the baby boy who she named, Aesar. Even though Aesar was not her real child, a deep bond between the two formed. She would always carry him around and have him sleep next to her in her bed. She¡¯d teach him, bathe him, love him, and discipline him. From what Amara noticed, Aesar was incredibly brilliant. He¡¯d always learn and understand thing more quickly than other children his age. At the age of 2 he could already speak in Elven language adeptly and had a good understanding of the Human language. He would read lots of books and listen intently to Ryfon¡¯s adventuring tales. He had the same eyes as her when she was younger, eyes filled with wonder. Unauthorized use of content: if you find this story on Amazon, report the violation. Aesar piqued lots of attention from the villagers as he continued to grow older. When Aesar was of 13 years of age, his display of power when he was training with Ryfon, left only disbelief on everyone¡¯s face. His excellent display of power and skills were comparable to some of the veteran village soldiers. Everyone in the village knew he was brilliant and talented, but not to such an extent. Over the years he continued to grow stronger and he eventually surpassed Ryfon. Even though everyone in the village knew Aesar was very powerful, Amara¡¯s motherly nature still sheltered him from everything. She would deny any request of the village¡¯s military to recruit her son. The Four Generals were not too happy with it, but being the daughter of the village chief and had the protection Ryfon, they eventually gave up. However, due to boredom, Aesar and Ryfon would sometime go off to do some of Legion Three¡¯s job. This was not well received by Amara. Everything from that time when she first met Aesar to their current situation happened in a span of 34 years. To her those 34 years were precious, but she now feared of what may happen in the future. She believed that Aesar would eventually leave the village like Ryfon from that time. Now she knew how her father felt when Ryfon¡¯s characteristics and qualities rub off on her. After some time had passed, Aesar and Ryfon looked fully refreshed as they gathered to where Amara was. Aesar had put on another dark crimson, long sleeve shirt. Ryfon only took off his dark leather armor, now revealing a white shirt. No one said a word for a brief moment. Then the silence was broken by Aesar. ¡°Dear mother¡ª¡° Before Aesar could finish, Amara interrupted, ¡°¡ªmy dear son, I¡¯ve been with you your whole life. I¡¯ve raised you after all. I know that look you have. It¡¯s the same one Ryfon had when he left 84 years ago,¡± Amara¡¯s voice became unsteady, ¡°I, also had that same look, until I found you. You¡¯ve grown into a fine strong man. Even though you are still very young, you¡¯ve matured finely. And I am very confident that you are capable of taking care and protecting yourself. It¡¯s just that I hate seeing you get hurt. But I also don¡¯t want to cage you like a bird.¡± Ryfon stayed silent. He did not want to get in between the mother and son. He knew just how much Amara¡¯s love was for Aesar. This was between the two of them, and only the two of them. ¡°I¡¯m sorry I worried you, dear mother. But you don¡¯t need to worry, you know full well what I¡¯m capable of and uncle Ryfon is with me.¡± The mother and son continued to exchange a few more words. It had been some time since they last had a similar talk. But this time, it was different ¨C Amara was different. She, in no way, scolded him. She only expressed her worry and love. After the talk, Agis returned to the manor after visiting Casaluna. Soon after, in the afternoon, a guest came to the manor, questioning two individuals. *** It was evening and everyone in the manor, Ryfon, Amara, Agis and Aesar, were sitting in front of a large dining table. In front of them was a plethora of food, presumed to be too much for the four individuals to eat. Everyone was dining rather normally when suddenly Aesar had a shift of mood. From this, the atmosphere drastically changed. Ryfon was the first to notice Aesar¡¯s change. He knew the unrivalled sensing abilities Aesar had and immediately knew something was wrong, judging from his serious expression. ¡°Aesar, what is it?¡± Ryfon asked with a worried expression. ¡°Somewhere north of the forest, something¡¯s there, or rather something is happening there.¡± After Aesar¡¯s reply, every elite soldier in the village soon sensed the disturbance. It was a strange sensation. They could feel energy gathering north of the forest. It was unfamiliar to them, almost similar to the energy Aesar possessed, but its form and sensations was different. Ryfon and Aesar looked at each other. They both came to a conclusion. Perhaps this had something to do with the large amount of hellhounds appearing. Agis and Amara have nervous looks. They knew of the strange circumstances in the north and probably had something to do with more creatures appearing there. As if knowing what would happen next, Amara said, ¡°Let Legion Three handle this.¡± She was worried. This was the first time something like this had happened for her. The strange anomaly was unnerving, even Agis who have lived in the village for centuries had uncertainty. They were right to feel unnerved. No one in the village, including Aesar and Ryfon has ever gone to deep, north of the forest, for it was too dangerous. Something was happening, something that has never happened before. ¡°Dear sister, Let us go. If Legion Three can handle it, then me and Aesar can, and if they can¡¯t, then we¡¯re the only ones that can. There is a gathering of mana, if such a large amount were to be used who knows what would happen,¡± Ryfon rebutted. Great urgency was coming from Aesar and Ryfon. Amara did not say a word and turned her head towards her father, only to see his defeated posture. At this, Aesar and Ryfon left the table, leaving Agis and a dejected elven girl. Just when Aesar was about to exit the dining room, he looked behind him and faced his mother. Aesar wanted to say he loved her, but refrained from doing so. Saying something heavy during a time of urgency would only burned her. Aesar and Ryfon exited the manor now fully equipped. Just when they were about to launch themselves towards the anomaly, a group of elves wearing black leather armor with some silver plating greeted them with faces of urgency. One particular elf had bronze-colored plating ¨C he was Rhalyf, the general for Legion 3. His long golden hair, tied into a ponytail swayed back and for the as he walked hurriedly towards the two individuals. ¡°You got here quickly Rhalyf, but I don¡¯t have time to talk right now,¡± as Ryfon said hurriedly, few more elven soldiers arrived to where they were. ¡°I¡¯m coming with you guys as well as all of Legion Three. I figured you¡¯d be acting fast, so I came here as quickly as I could.¡± As Ryfon and Rhalyf conversed, they quickly widen their eyes at what they sensed. Hordes of creatures were coming towards their direction, seemingly as if they were running away from the source of the anomaly. ¡°Move!¡± with a single word form Rhalyf, most of the elven soldiers with them darted towards the walls. The ones that stayed behind were presumably elites. Aesar and Ryfon were getting impatient. ¡°Tell all the legions to protect the village, and I want elites, and you to protect my father and sister. Don¡¯t think about refuting me. Aesar and I will handle this.¡± Rhalyf couldn¡¯t deny that the two of them were the most capable out of them all. For peace of mind, he said, ¡°Fine, but take some of my elites with you.¡± With that, the two impatient individuals blurred as they jumped towards the anomaly leaving craters behind where they just stood. Behind them were several elves following as they glided over the trees. Chapter 3 ***Rhalyf POV*** ¡°Those two¡¡± after Aesar and Ryfon left, I told the remaining elites with me to guard the manor. Amara and Agis¡¯ safety was a priority for me. Incurring Aesar and Ryfon¡¯s wrath would not be a wise move. With my order, my elite guards made their way to the manor and met with Agis¡¯ personal elite guards. Soon after, Amara and Agis exited their manor with worried expression to seemingly question me, but I did not have time. ¡°Lady Amara, and chief Agis, I¡¯m sorry, but I have to back to you later. Right now I have attended to an urgent matter.¡± With that, I left the two with now disappointed, yet understanding expressions. In mere moments, I was able to arrive back to the barracks with my breakneck speed. I could only see a few soldiers around and 2 of the Four Generals, Mylaela and Varan with troubled faces. Upon arriving, the two generals questioned about the current circumstances. ¡°What of Aesar and Ryfon?¡± Mylaela questioned, as if knowing where I took off hastily. ¡°They went to find the source of this anomaly. I¡¯ve sent some of my best soldiers with them. Under normal circumstances I would probably have gone with them, but I trust their judgement and ability. So, where are Ralnor and Zaos?¡± ¡°Zaos is on the northern wall along with Ralnor. They both acted quickly after the strange mana gathering started,¡± Mylaela answered, then questioned ¡°do you know what is happening? Did Aesar and Ryfon know what is happening?¡± This hit me. I was not able to question the two due to the hurried and urgent circumstances. ¡°I didn¡¯t ask, but from the way they acted, they probably know just as much as us.¡± Legion Three had no better luck then Aesar and Ryfon when we attempted to delve deeper into the northern part of the forest, because of this, we were not able to find the reasons behind the increase of appearances of monsters. My thoughts shifted to the events in the north. I could sense an uncountable amount of creatures coming from the north. They didn¡¯t just number greatly; they had overwhelming power. Normally, I wouldn¡¯t be able to sense them from this far away, but the sear numbers and the great amount of disturbances they created made it possible. I felt my spine chill and I struggled to swallow my saliva as if there was a lump stuck inside my throat. Mylaela and Varan looked at me and had the same feeling plastered on their faces. ¡°I assume that most of our forces are located on the northern part of the wall,¡± I said. ¡°Yes. Although, there are few soldiers scattered around the villages to protect and inform the villagers,¡± Mylaela answered. ¡°Rhalyf, what should we do?¡± Mylaela¡¯s voice had a hint of worry and fear. I, too, was at a loss. Just what is happening inside this forest? And whatever is happen, it¡¯s scarring some powerful creatures towards us. This indeed was frightening. *** In the cover of the night, Aesar and Ryfon were swiftly manoeuvring through the dense forest. With their incredible speed, the 4 elite soldiers from Legion Three fell behind. But the two pressed on, not worrying about the group that was not able to keep up with their speed. The cold night chills engulfed their bodies as they ran unfazed by it. Their quick and rhythmic breaths could be visible from the chilly night. And only focus were on their faces; it was almost frightening. Loud activities could be heard ahead of where they were facing. But the two did not make a single sound. In mere moments, a spine-chilling amount of monsters appeared before them; Lesser Hydras (young), Cyclops, Giants, High Bears, packs of Great Wolves, the list would go on and on. Their appearances were truly terrifying. Their hearts ached at the rapid beats, and frustrations covered their once determined and focused faces. The thought of such a large amount of monsters were headed towards the village caused their teeth to grit loudly and their skin to lose color. But they did not engage the monsters. The village soldiers¡¯ adversaries were formidable and they were plenty. However, just as they did not engage the horde of monsters, the monsters also paid no mind to their presence and parted away from the two as the monsters were repelling from the anomaly. Such circumstances would allow all the soldiers in the village to protect the village. Aesar and Ryfon were confident of their power and capability. This gave Aesar and Ryfon a sense of relief as the monsters may also ignore the village and continue to distance themselves from the anomaly. But this was also worrying as such a large amount of monsters, as well as powerful ones were deterred from the strange occurrence in the northern part of the village. Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit. Growls, howls, hisses, and various other noises engulfed their surroundings as they made their way through the tidal wave of monsters. Above them were scally, winged creatures roaring in the sky while majestically soared through the air, wyverns. After making their way through large numbers colossal trees for 40 minutes, Aesar, with his quick reflex and incredible sensing ability, shoved Ryfon by surprise as they were traveling swiftly. Briefly after Aesar shoved Ryfon to his right, he shifted his entire body to the left causing his muscles to bulge and ripple from the strenuous amount of power and speed he put on such a move. Not a moment after Aesar¡¯s acrobatic feat, a large, black, spherical orb, five times the size of their 3-floor manor, whirled pasted between the two of them. Form a closer inspection in the corner of Ryfon¡¯s eyes, he could see many little, twinkling lights inside the black sphere - almost like a clear midnight sky where stars would sparkle in their great numbers. ***Ryfon POV*** Aesar and I were hastily making our way to the source of the anomaly. Something was happening big, and it was nerve wrecking. This has been the first time for me and probably father, to experience something like this. Such a large amount of mysterious mana was being gathered north of the forest. The amount was terrifying, and that lead me and Aesar to find the cause fearing that something terrible might happen. After we passed a tidal wave of monster, something inside me clicked. I finally found out about this strange sensation. This sensation was similar to the way casting a spell would be. It took me quite a while to recognize it because of the unfamiliar form of mana. At a closer inspection, it would almost seem familiar to Aesar¡¯s mana. No wonder me and Aesar were so driven on trying to go to the source, it was instinct. This familiar feeling was like casting a spell. Meaning, something will be unleashed. This was what¡¯s wrecking us internally. Still contemplating while manoeuvring through the dense forest, I sensed something with my sensory skill. But before I could react, I was suddenly pushed to my right at an incredible speed; my neck whip-lashed from the sheer force of the push. In the corner of my, I saw it. A large black sphere flew past us at lightning speed. I was able to see the blurring twinkling light inside the orb, similar to what the star-filled night sky would look like. Soon after the black sphere pasted us, I tore through several trees from being pushed by Aesar. What in the damnation happened? Between me and Aesar was now a large trail of dirt where the mysterious black sphere made way. I tried to quickly process what had just happened, but while contemplating, deep thundering booms and crackles reverberated through the night sky where the large, black sphere came from. It was difficult to see because of the thick leaves blocking out most of the sky, but I was able to see large, dark blue lightning. At this, I turned towards Aesar¡¯s location, but his attention was elsewhere. That was right! The village, that¡¯s where that strange black sphere was headed. Neither of us had to say anything. With a now clear path from the mysterious black sphere made, we were able to move twice ¨C if not thrice the speed we moved previously. Soon after we made our way back to the village, a large sphere similar to the one we saw moments ago, but its size was comparable to that of a mountain appeared. But in a blink of an eye, it vanished silently. We zoomed past the forest at an outstanding speed, causing the trees we pasted of bend and the wind boomed. After traveling at great speeds for a while, our heart stopped. A head of us we could see a large opening. After nearing the large opening in the forest, our hearts pounded rapidly against our chest and our pupils dilated. But soon after standing in the large opening, our heads turned everywhere and our eyes wandered around erratically. The area where our village used to be was nowhere to be seen. -------- This is the map of the Forest of Asteria + the area affected by the mysterious black sphere. Chapter 4 The once lively village was nowhere to be seen. In its place was now a very large, round, deep concave on the earth¡¯s surface ¨C similar to a bowl. On the edge of the large concave were Aesar and Ryfon. Their mouths were at a gape, their eyes widen while shifting it over the large concave, and a dumbfound expression were plastered on their faces. ¡°What happened?¡± Aesar¡¯s soft voice broke the silence. His face was now deadpan while still examining the area. ¡°I don¡¯t know,¡± answered Ryfon with a demoralized and darkly menacing look. At this, Aesar let out a loud, spine-chilling gale from his mouth. His hands clenched tightly on his now ghastly pale palm. His dark grey nails turned pitch black and started to elongated causing thick, red liquid to stain the dirt beneath him. Anger and sadness could be relayed from his scream. Aesar wanted to know. He wanted go to the direction to where the mysterious black orb came from. He wanted to decimate whatever caused the anomaly ¨C whether it be a living or non-living thing. But his mind was in turmoil and his broken heart made him lose the drive to execute his desires and just wanted to mourn. As he mourned he unclenched his now blood dripping right hand on his necklace. He glanced at a black luster, circular gem that hung on a white thread, placed around his neck. This was a present from his dear mother gave when he turned 5 years of age. Since he had a pitiful amount of strange mana, his dear mother worried about his safety, always fearing that he would not have enough strength to protect himself, for that reason she gave him a mana stone. The mana stone would be charged with magic and it would allow the one who held it to access the stored mana for various uses. Amara taught him how to harness the mana inside the stone and use it to cast spells or body enchantment. But it was later realized that he had no such need of the mana stone. His body was amazing, it could do wondrous things. The skin that wraps hi body was incredibly tough, even tougher than the Orthrus he fought with Ryfon. His strength could rival powerful, magically enhanced creatures and many other things. To top it off, he had a natural healing ability that could put any healing spells he¡¯d seen to shame; all of these without the need of mana. It had always baffled everyone in the village and amplified their curiosity to what he was. And because of this, he had also piqued interest in himself. Nonetheless, he treasured the beautiful necklace his dear mother gave him. Still tightly grasping the necklace with trembling hands, waves of sadness surged inside him. ¡®I missed Her,¡¯ were his only thoughts. Ryfon on the other hand stayed silent with a grimaced face. He blocked out Aesar¡¯s blood curdling scream as his eyes calculatedly observed, and contemplated about the situation. Something was bothering him, something that did not quite click. Moments after Aesar silenced and with a now dark and despairing look, Ryfon¡¯s head shifted up as if realizing something. Everything started to fit together ever since he saw the large mysterious sphere. The details of the dark sphere, the dirt path it created, and the concaved area before them. Aesar noticed this change in Ryfon¡¯s look, but in his despair he passed it off and stayed down casted with all hope lost in his eyes. He could not deny what was in front of him. ¡°Realm,¡± with a single word uttered under the breath of Ryfon, Aesar looked up towards him, only to see Ryfon with a glint of hope in his eyes. From this, it got Aesar full attention which ushered Ryfon for an explanation. At this Ryfon said, ¡°I think it¡¯d make sense.¡± He looked at Aesar and continued, ¡°That black sphere might be a portal to a different realm.¡± Aesar¡¯s mood had turned completely from Ryfon¡¯s words. Hope and determination soon filled his eyes. There was a chance, a chance that everyone could be alive. His thoughts soon turned sharp and calculating from trying to grasp the situation. Aesar contemplated. What indication would let Ryfon led to such a conclusion? The area affected by the black orb. Seeing the new look from Aesar as if he was also catching up to something, Ryfon continued and nodded, ¡°The area affected by the orb did not have any indication of destruction. It was as if the sphere ate it up.¡± Ryfon stopped and stared at Aesar who now has reckoning look. Ryfon concluded that it was a portal to a different realm indicated by the multiple lights from the black sphere; those lights were stars, stars from a different realm, he deducted. Ryfon was no stranger to the night sky and the knowledge of different realms. The plethora of books he and Aesar read from elder Khilseith covered a variety of subjects. ¡°How do you know it was a portal to a different realm?¡± questioned Aesar still in a state of dispair. Not having a good look of the black sphere, he was not aware of the detailed description of the black sphere. ¡°That star-like light within the black sphere resembled the stars. But the placing of the star is not familiar to me ¨C it¡¯s different from the one in our realm. The real question though is how to do we get them back.¡± From this, it was clear that they were not well versed in realms or going to and from one. The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation. Not saying anymore, they traveled on the dirt path where the direction of the portal came from. They contained multiple emotions within them, anger, sadness, and hope. They wanted vengeance and it was clear from their blood thirsty aura they emitted. ****Aesar POV**** Ryfon and I followed the dirt path the portal created in great speeds. Rage and sadness were the dominating me, but I stayed focus at our current task. If we get to the area where the strange anomaly happened, we might get clues to what happened and find a way to transport to the realm the village went in. After swiftly making our way along the dirt path, we could see charred ground in a small opening a head. This was probably the farthest me and Ryfon had gone up north in the forest. Arriving to our destination we split up carefully inspecting a large charred area. But that was all we saw, a devastated mark on the earth. I grew impatient and angrier. I could tell the Ryfon was in the same state as me. After finding nothing, Ryfon and I moved to an area with a cliff that had a black scorched side. The two full moons in the night sky shone on the open area where Ryfon and I were now at. It was a beautiful night, the stars in the night sky sparkled and the light from the two full moons reflected on the surface of the ground. But under the moonlight were our anguished faces. I turned towards Ryfon hoping he¡¯d have something. At this, he opened his mouth, ¡°Maybe we can go to the Cyri Empire or anyone knowledgeable about traversing to realms.¡± He was right. This was our only chance at finding my dear mother and everyone else. Although the books I¡¯ve read contained subjects about different realms, it was not informative on opening portals to different realms. Realms were like different worlds, or rather a different space from what I have read. From what I know there are about 100 to 150 realms in existence, and the one I currently reside in was called Helios. Some realms does not contain life, others are like prisons. Thinking about it, something came to mind. ¡°Ryfon... the Fallen. Maybe if we could capture one we can traverse through different realms,¡± I said with a clear voice. Ryfon had a look that he had contemplated about my suggestion before I mentioned it. The Fallen were beings that were banished to a void realm. Not much I know about them, but they were powerful beings. They were once keepers of multitudes of realms. But from there conceitedness, they started a war that spanned for several millennia; banishing their planet to a void realm by the united works of several deities from different worlds and other powerful beings. The remaining Fallens were slaughtered and killed off completely from every realm they occupied. This all happened nearly a hundred thousand years ago. Although, it seems like the Fallens have been active. Small attacks have been conducted from them lately for the past millennia, but it the attacks seemed to serve no purpose from our perspective. About 700 years ago an army of Fallens appeared in Helios. It seemed as though they were just randomly attacking who¡¯s purpose was to cause mayhem. But some knew better, Fallens were powerful and intelligent, they would have some sort of ulterior motive behind the attacks, but they could not figure it out. One of the places attacked in Helios was an elven city. My honored grandfather led a group of survivors into the Forest of Asteria, in hopes of surviving. And that¡¯s how our village came to be. The Fallens were attacked by powerful creatures in the forest preventing them from chasing the survivors. After the attacked they vanished, presumably by traversing back to their realm. Although there have been small attacks here and there reported, it was not as grand as the attack from 700 hundred years ago. With their ability to go to different realms, Ryfon and I may be able to get back the village. ¡°We could head to the Cyri empire and see if they having anything or anyone useful. Meanwhile, we can engage in activities involving the Fallens,¡± Ryfon suggested. It was the best and our only plan, so we agreed upon it. But before we would leave the forest we planned on scouring the forest for anymore leads. We also planned to go to a dragon and ask for information. It would not be hard to find one. On the western side of the forest were large mountain ranges that spanned along the side for hundreds of kilometers; that place are home to dragons. Dragons, being the strongest race by a big margin caused the two of us showed a hint of anxiety. But this did not deter us. We have never fought a full dragon; the closest to one we¡¯ve fought would be a hydra, and we fared well against multiple ones at the same time, so we had some confidence, but we were still cautious. After agreeing to what we would do next, we set our plans into motion. ¡®My dear mother, I hope you are safe.¡¯ ------------------ AN: Interactions between the world and Aesar will happen soon. Map of the Forest of Asteria + aftermath Chapter 5 Aesar and Ryfon were quickly making their way west of the Forest where the mountain ranges were located and where the dragons resided. They had not rested since the incident in the village happened. The sky started to slowly light up as the sun slowly dawned. Arriving at the mountain ranges, they decided to take a break. Taking on a dragon in a worn out state was unwise. (Mountain range/Tone of the story) *Image is not mine. Full credits to the artist who allowed this image to be used freely. They made their way towards a base of a small cliff charitably hiding them. Ryfon was the first to rest, not worrying about monster attacks. Aesar soon followed him and rested. Aesar sensing ability was so well honed he could subconsciously detect things even when asleep. Even still, they both knew it would be dangerous to sleep without a look out especially in a dragon infested area. However, it was their judgement. Dragons were disinterested in a lot of things and would often slumber for many years. They had not encountered any monsters for several hours. Their current location was advantageously located from prying eyes. They were also excellently concealing their presence. This was topped off by Aesar extraordinary sensing abilities, and Ryfon¡¯s magic that would subconsciously sense some of his surroundings. From the all the variables, they both judged that it would be fine for the both of them to sleep. After getting a few hours of rest, the two continued to travel over the mountain ranges, scouring for dragons. The mountain ranges did not have any trees. The land was dark in color and the edges of the mountains were sharp and dangerous. It would not be hard to find the entrances of cave where dragons would usually reside in. The caves were large and unnatural looking, not mention that there were a plethora of dragons that live within the mountain ranges. All those factors would increase their chance at finding one rather quickly. They would leap from edges to edges and would lunge efficiently over the rough surface of the mountains to travel faster. After wandering the mountain ranges for half a day, they came across an unnatural looking cave. The entrance was gigantic and menacing. It looked as if it would swallow you inside its dark depths. The entrance could fit 30 people side by side while extending their hands outwards to the side. They entered the large cave where light was slowly disappearing. But before they entered, Ryfon used a spell to allow him to see in the pitch black cave. Aesar on the other hand had no need for spells, for he had the natural ability to see in the dark. Luckily for them the cave was not a complex. There were smaller caves that branched out from the enormous main tunnel. It was quite obvious to follow the largest tunnel. The cave was silent; no creatures were spotted as they hurriedly ran. After a while, they started to sense an enormous amount of magical power ahead of them. When they sensed the large amount of mana their vigilance and sharpness stayed the same; at its peak. Shortly after, they entered a large dome inside the cave. The dome was half the size of their village. In the middle of the dome was a large lizard like creature. At our appearance, the creature opened its eyes and stood tall on its four muscular legs. Piercing emerald eyes that glowed sat gracefully within the creature''s scaled, angular skull, which gave the creature a terrifying appearance. Two small, horns sat atop its head, just above its long, sharp ears. Its nose was somewhat slim and had two narrow, curved nostrils. Several rows of large teeth could be seen as it opened its mouth giving it a slight hint at the terror inside. Its neck, twice the length of its head runs down from its head and into a large body. The top was covered in armor like scale and a row of small spikes ran down its spine. Its bottom was covered in massive scales and was colored much lighter than the rest of its body. Two muscular limbs carry its body and allow the creature to stand sturdy and tall. Each limb had 6 digits, each of which end in thick, black claws Graceful wings grew starting from just below its shoulders and end at the lower end of its back. The wings are almost demonic, the skin of the wings seems to glow as if made from fire itself and armor-like scales grow on top of the wing''s primary bones. Its elegant tail ends in a spear-like growth and was covered in the same armor-like scale as its body. ¡°Hmm, what brings me, Stiria, visitors?¡± the dragon spoke in a loud booming, yet feminine voice. At the dragon¡¯s words, Ryfon replied, ¡°If it¡¯s alright with you, Stiria, I¡¯d like to ask for some information.¡± Though it did not show, Ryfon was a bit nervous. The power the dragon emitted was immense which put him on edge. ¡°HAHAHA!¡± Stiria laughed at the top of her breath, causing the ground to tremble. And she continued to laugh. Aesar and Ryfon looked at each other with puzzled looks. They thought that perhaps, asking a dragon JUST for information was comical and probably unheard of. To bother a dragon for mere questions was after all, uncanny. The two waited till the dragon got bored from laughing. They had to wait long. If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. After Stiria finished laughing for what seemed like hours, she said, ¡°That¡¯s funny.¡± ¡°It would seem so,¡± Ryfon commented. Soon after, Stiria positioned herself menacingly and glared at the two. Her glowing emerald eyes pierced the darkness. ¡°For giving me such an entertaining time in over a thousand years, I will let you leave this place alive. Now leave, before I change my mind!¡± Stiria growled. To enter her home and ask something trivial of her was insulting, and it caused her fume in anger. Aesar and Ryfon became impatient and started to emit some killing intent. They put up with a dragon laughing while they were in a hurry trying to find a way to get back their loved ones; it was frustrating. From the display of Aesar and Ryfon, Stiria got an amused look. Before her were two individual that showed no fear of her. She mainly kept her eyes on Ryfon presuming that he was the most dangerous. She did not care much for the person next to him for she indicated that he was weak judging for his lack of mana signature. Although, it did peak her interest when she noticed that his mana was strange, but the pitiful amount left her uninterested overall. Even if that person was extremely skilled, he, in no way would he be able to harm her, was what she thought. She could tell that the two of them were extremely skilled, and judging from her pervious senses, it was indeed so for the person she was staring at, Ryfon. She could tell that he was indeed very dangerous. However, since she had not met anyone in a long time, she did not engage the two and instead supressed her anger and acknowledge their presence in respect for Ryfon¡¯s strength and their attendance. She was lonely and bored. At the sight of Stiria relaxing, Aesar and Ryfon also loosened up. ¡°What are your names?¡± asked Stiria. ¡°My name is Ryfon Daesatra and to my left is my nephew, Aesar Loraven. Though we are not blood related, certain circumstances led us to our relationship,¡± replied Ryfon. ¡°You, Aesar, I have no knowledge of your race. What are you?¡± Stiria furthered questioned. This was news to both Aesar and Ryfon. For a dragon to not even know what he was certainly puzzled them. ¡°I also do not know what I am. My dear mother found me in this forest 34 years ago, so I do not know my origins,¡± replied Aesar. He then said, ¡°You have been asking us questions, I believe it is our turn.¡± ¡°You seem quite in hurry. Please, let me enjoy your company some more.¡± ¡°I find it strange for a dragon to involve itself with others,¡± said Aesar. ¡°I do not find it strange to desire for company after a long time of isolation. Although I say that, I am only speaking on behalf of myself. There are indeed many other dragons that would have torn you to shreds without a moment of hesitation. So, what is it that you ask? I¡¯m guessing it has something to do with that strange anomaly.¡± ¡°For you to say that it is a strange anomaly, you must not know much about what had happened as well, do you? Anyhow, what can you tell us about the mysterious anomaly? Anything at all,¡± said Ryfon. Seemingly insulted by Ryfon¡¯s comment, she said, ¡°Indeed, I do not know much about it. This forest is just as a mystery to us just as it is you. Though, we dragons are probably more knowledgeable than you. I do know some things about this forest; however, I do not know anything about that strange anomaly that occurred.¡± The two had an expressionless face, seeming that they expected such an answer. ¡°Lastly, do you know any way to go to different realms?¡± At the question of Ryfon, Stiria had an interested look. ¡°I do. However, I hate to admit, but I do not have the ability to do such a thing. And I doubt you¡¯ll have better luck with the other dragons here. To my knowledge I would assume that there are 10 dragons in Helios that are capable of such a feat. Though, I doubt they would comply with your request. Traversing through different realms does not really interest us dragons. It would only bring conflict with dragons from different realms. We are quite territorial when it comes to our own realm. Perhaps you¡¯ll have better luck in the Cyri Empire or the Demon Continent.¡± ¡°Thank you, Stiria,¡± with Ryfon¡¯s thanks, Aesar and him took their leave, not evening glancing behind them. This angered Stiria, but she kept it to herself. ¡®What an interesting era,¡¯ she thought to herself. To any other dragons, they would have certainly attacked the two of them from their show of ¡®disrespect¡¯. However, Stiria was not as bigoted as the rest. She considered their danger. *** The sun had already set once Aesar and Ryfon exited the cave. After they concluded some things, they headed to Casaluna, a neighboring village. With that, they continued, leaving the mountain ranges, and travelled through the forest in great speed without rest. --------------------------------- You guys are probably wondering Aesar''s and Ryfon''s power rating compared to the world. All I will say is that it is safe to assume that they are in no way weaklings. Map of the forest + aftermath Chapter 6 ****Aesar POV**** Ryfon was running ahead at breakneck speed while skillfully maneuvering through the large and dense trees. We were making our way out of the Forest of Asteria. After we checked on my great uncle in Casaluna to get an understanding on their situation, we set on our quest. During the time when we arrived in Casaluna, I was surprised at how well their conditions were. The walls were only damaged some and few soldiers were injured. That¡¯s to say that the soldiers in Casaluna were powerful; though, they were still below the might of our village¡¯s soldiers. My great uncle, who had been studying about the Forest for centuries and various other things did not have any clue to what happened. This was quite frustrating. But from what Stiria said, it was still possible to go to the realm where my village disappeared to; it gave me a sense of relief and hope. Although Ryfon and I can go on without rest for a long time, Great Uncle convinced us to stay at his place over the night. I could tell that he was hardened by the current events. However, in his state, he still managed to comfort us on our village¡¯s safety. He would constantly bring up the strength of Mytethnaes¡¯s soldiers and my dear mother¡¯s strength, as well as my honored grandfather¡¯s strength. This reminder was reaffirming, for I did not doubt their strength. I¡¯ve seen and experienced it first hand before. We however did not meet with the elites that came with us after the appearance of the black sphere. Perhaps they were caught by it. As we continued to make our way out of the forest, I felt as if part of me was missing. Whenever I would adventure out of the village, I had no worries. I was confident in my strength and I could return to my dear mother after my excursions. This time, I was leaving home without anyone to return to, always constantly agonizing over the safety of my loved ones. After brooding over the past events, I focused on the task at hand and continued to move at blinding speed. Large trees and various other plants came and go as quickly as I saw them. We were making fast progress. Ryfon and I had our usual attire and weapons, but this time we had a black cloak draped on our backs. Thanks to my great uncle, we were able to take 10 platinum coins, 32 gold coins, 30 silver coins, 20 copper coins; though, most of the money was with Ryfon. We also had provisions that could a few days, a map and spare clothing; all of which were stored in a dark brown leather bag. The two of us moved across the forest quickly by foot, as it was the only means of travel in and out of the forest, aside from flying. Along the way, we encountered varies creatures, but they were dealt with quickly. Our first general direction was west to Crystal City, a city that would provide a way to cross the sea. We planned on sailing to Galedria Kingdom which was west of the kingdom we were currently on, Edendas Kingdom. After a short period of traversing through the Forest Asteria, Its edge finally came into view. I saw Ryfon disappear into a bright light as he exited the dark forest. My heart started to rapidly pound against my chest as I knew that I would be next. Bright light soon greeted my eyes as I stopped on my tracks and slowly shifted my head left and right while lush green knee-high grass entered my field of vision. Off towards the distance were large mountains that had pearly white peaks. I processed everything that I saw. I turned my head to where Ryfon was, only to see a hardened look. From this, thought back about my dear mother and my village. I knew back then that my dear mother was just as adventurous as Ryfon and the current me. Although, she never had the chance because honored grandfather forbade her from leaving the forest, just as my dear mother forbade to from leaving. It¡¯s quite the irony really; I¡¯ve heard that people outside the forest viewed the Forest of Asteria as very dangerous, but to my village, it was a safe haven. I wanted to show her what¡¯s beyond the forest. I wanted let her experience what she wanted before she met me. Someday, I will take her with me, whether honoured grandfather likes it or not. Still standing on the same spot, I glanced at a black luster, circular gem that hung on a white thread, placed around my neck. My heart started to ache. After a few moments of finally grasping my current state, I carefully placed my precious necklace underneath my long sleeve shirt, hiding it from any wandering eyes. ¡°Aesar, are you ready?¡± said Ryfon as he distantly stared into the horizon. I replied ¡°Yes, I¡¯m ready. Lead the way.¡± At this, Ryfon glanced at me and nodded. In a split second, we had seemed to disappear from where we were at. Without various obstacles in the forest, we were able to travel faster. It was wonderful. I could clearly see everything around me. It was very different from the forest where large trees would block out majority of the surroundings and blanket the ground with its thick leaves preventing most of the light from ever reaching the ground. We ran nonstop and no words were exchanged between the two of us as it would disrupt our rhythmic breathing. My legs were starting to feel a bit tired, but it would not be a bother if I were to continue for a longer amount of time. Ryfon seemed to be fine, but over time, our speed gradually slowed down. After quickly passing through a sea of knee-tall grass, various animals I have never personally seen, and mountains passing by as we sped through large amount distance, Crystal City came into view. The city was huge. Large, thick stone walls 25 meters tall that seemed to be magically enhanced towered into the sky while enclosing the city. In the center of the city was a large castle on top of a slightly elevated ground. The castle was the biggest structure I have ever seen, easily doubling the height of the walls. Its white, tinge of gold stone walls and beautiful azure roofs, gleamed against the mid-afternoon sun. The rest of the city was difficult to see as the large wall hid the rest of the city. Our slightly elevated position allowed us to see only so much. I glanced to my left and found Ryfon who seemed a bit drained; not so much physically, but mentally. To run at such speeds would require mana to physically enhance the body to make it move faster. As for me, I did not use mana, it was all natural. Thus, I am only a bit tired physically. Whereas, Ryfon was a bit tired physically and mentally. Regardless of our current state, we are still capable of doing so much more. After briefly stopping at the sight of Crystal City, I followed Ryfon in a normal stroll to a path towards our right that would lead us to the city next to the sea. You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author. On a dirt path about three meters wide, various glances were directed towards us as we passed by some Elves, Beastmen, Nagas and Humans. This was probably due to our looks. We were quite handsome and would probably be assumed as nobles judging from our fine quality attire and equipment. We made our way to the gates of Crystal City in a normal pace. Next to the gates were two guards standing at the ends of the gate, and there were two other guards carefully inspecting various groups of people or individual that wanted to enter into the city. I glanced up into the sky where the sun was slowly setting as it caused the blue sky to dye in an orange color. It was a sight that I never got tired of. Back in the village, I would climb on top of the trees and watch beautiful sunsets such as the one I was seeing. Once we neared the gates, the glances of the four guards had a suspicious look, but never took any actions. We manage to get through the gates without any problems. The guards only asked a few questions and then ask for an entrance fee of 2 silvers for the both of us which we paid without any hesitation. Part of the easy entrance was probably because we were both elves and were presumed as high-ranking individuals from the looks of our fine quality equipment. It helped that Edendas Kingdom was an elven kingdom. Although my expressions were not shown, on the inside, I was amazed. Upon entering Crystal City, buzzing noises from crowds of individuals bombarded me. Left and right, people were walking past me and in front of me. My senses were overloaded. I stopped on my tracks trying to suppress and control my incredibly sharp senses. After a few moments I was able focus on what I wanted. Although my senses were still sharp, it still did not bother me as much. The constant honing and controlling of my senses during my time in the village when Ryfon and I would hunt helped immensely with my control and focus. After stabilizing, I got a clear view of the city. Various people of various races walked on cobbled roads. Some had armor and weapons whom I presumed were adventurers. From what I¡¯ve heard from Ryfon and other elves from our village, adventurers were various individuals that would do various quests that would range from bounties, monster subjugation, and guarding, as well as other things. It was a surprise to me that Ryfon was not an adventurer. When I brought it up in my early years he said that he had no need for it, for he was only out to wander the world, not to get a job, even though the rewards were very generous. He also had no need for the rewards for he was rich from selling monster materials he had slayed. I continued to observe my surroundings. All the buildings were finely built with stone that were placed accordingly. In front of my direct view was the Castle I had previously seen outside the gates. I turned towards Ryfon only to have found him with a tired look. For him to have traveled many parts of the world, this must not have amazed him to a high degree. ¡°This place was just as amazing as I last saw it,¡± said Ryfon with his tired expression. I said to him ¡°It doesn¡¯t seem that way judging from your tired, almost bored expression.¡± ¡°Don¡¯t get me wrong, this city is amazing compared to most of the other cities I have seen. The economy is thriving here and every building is an architectural beauty. Not to mention that the duke and the duchess who control these lands are good people. And if you don¡¯t know, that huge castle up there,¡± Ryfon pointed at the large castle I was previously looking at and continued ¡°is where they reside.¡± ¡°Now let¡¯s go find an inn.¡± And with Ryfon¡¯s last line, he moved forward and maneuvered through the busy streets, as if he knew where to go. And with that, I followed him. Few glances were directed towards us here and there, by both male and females. But the two sexes had looks with very different meanings behind them. This however was ignored by us as we continued to make our way to an inn. After moving on the cobbled streets for a while, the sun had finally disappeared from sight. This however did not darken the city. In fact, after the sun disappeared into the horizon, the city lit with colors. The streets were clearly visible from the lights emitted by crystals that were place on top of poles accordingly placed on the street sides. Shortly after the sun completely set, we stood before a large building two stories high. It was an inn, an expensive looking one at that. I followed Ryfon as we entered through a finely, crafted double-doors. Upon entering, we made our way to a counter directly in front of us. A young looking male elf stood before the counter and lowered his head as he greeted us. Ryfon asked for a single room with two beds. He then gave the receptionist 10 Silver coins to pay for two nights that included two meals a day, one in the morning and the other at night. As we made our way to our rooms, with a raised eyebrow, I questioned, ¡°Why two nights?¡± ¡°I figured that I might as well show you around this city tomorrow and perhaps look for various things we may need. This is your first time out of the village, might as well spare a day. I know you may not like straying from our original goal, but with the 4 Legions in the village they should fare well. This could also lighten the mood,¡± he replied with a solemn look. At this I scowled a bit, but I did not refute him. To find a way to reach our village was my one and only goal, not to sightsee. But he was right; we needed to raise our morals. We couldn¡¯t go on like this; it will only consume us with nothing but a desolated-filled journey. We will only decay from our disillusion. And with that, we arrived in our room, a much decorated room, with two large beds. We got in bed shortly after we removed some of our gear. Ryfon took the bed nearest to the door and I sensed that he was already asleep. I shortly followed, after. ------------------ Encyclopedia Aesar: Items: Weapons: Greatsword - Blade length: 1meter/48in/4ft (not including the handle) Color: Silver Money: Platinum coiuns:0 Gold coins:20 Silver coins:4 Copper coins:10 Ryfon: Items: Weapons: Dual wield swords - Blade length: 76cm/30inches (not including the handle) Color: Silver Money: Platinum coiuns:10 Gold coins:12 Silver coins:26 Copper coins:10 ********************************************************************************* Currency: 50 copper coins = 1 silver coin 50 silver coins = 1 gold coin 50 gold coins = 1 platinum coin ********************************************************************************* Power/Adventurer ranking: 1. Chapter 7 A.N: I edited the encyclopedia(lifespan). -------- ***Aesar POV**** Morning dawned with warm yellow rays of light entering in our room from the window next to me. Once we had our gears equipped, I followed Ryfon down to the first floor in the dining area. Many heads turned towards us upon our arrival. The predatory looks of some of the females ¨C mainly the Human females were a bit unnerving. But as usual, we ignored their attention. This inn was very populated with adventurers; successfully looking one from what I could see. In the streets I could tell various quality of equipment, and the people here had better things compared to most from what I had seen outside. However, it still paled in comparison with the soldiers in our village. To our right were a group of people finely geared in weapons and armor which I presumed were adventurers; 4 males and 2 females, all of whom were of the Human race. They inspected us seemingly as if they were trying to recall us or figure out who we were. Judging from that, they were probably not new to this place. They had an irritated look, probably jealous of the attention we got. And it worsened when we just ignored them. However, they did not confront us, for they knew nothing about us, and judging from our fine quality equipment, they probably thought that it would be trouble if they did confront us. They were in an Elven kingdom, and to attack an Elf that had a high standing would not go well for them. Once we made our way to an empty table and seated, a waiter came to take our orders. After ordering, a large, hardened looking Elf, about 2meters tall, stood in front of our table. Ryfon and I faced the Elf and observed him closely. Certainly, he was an adventurer and a type that would be battle thirsty. And even though he was an Elf, his age was show a bit. Probably in his mid-years, 300-iss years old. He was covered in scars and was adorned in weapons; at least 4 weapons could be seen on him, on his neck hung a silver medallion. I recognized the medallion as Adventure medallions which signify the ranking of an individual. To my knowledge from Ryfon, there were 7 different ranks in the Adventurer Guild, Copper, Bronze, Iron, Steel, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. The higher the quality the medal was, the stronger you¡¯re signified. He was a cut from the rest, for only one other person had the same rank as him. The group that seemed to not like me and Ryfon very much was all Iron rank. Though, I was not quite sure what power each ranking held. We had not such rankings in our village, so I had nothing to compare to. ¡°What is it that you want?¡± Ryfon spoke in annoyance. Just when the large Elf was about to speak, the other silver rank, a female Human, interrupted, ¡°Elride, leave those two alone. They don¡¯t even have Adventurer Medallions. They could be knights, but I do not see an insignia on them.¡± At her words, everyone turned their heads to her. She had brown eyes, and long brown hair tied into a pony tail. She wore fine, brown leather pants and armor. Attached to her hips were two green daggers. ¡°I just wanted a duel, Renna. I have not seen these young lads around and I wanted to test them out and see if their fine quality weapons were not just for show. Hey, you. Young lad, where is your armor?¡± he directed his question at me. ¡°I mean, armor can get in the way of mobilizations, but you don¡¯t even have leather armor.¡± I simply replied, ¡°I don¡¯t need any.¡± Some adventures were vexed at my seemingly arrogant answer. Even the woman who defended us seemed affected. However, the Elf named Elride only had an amused look. ¡°You want a duel? I¡¯ll give you one,¡± Ryfon interjected seemingly annoyed. He has been quite quick tempered lately. I can¡¯t blame him from our current problems and annoying ¡®flies¡¯ buzzing around us. The dining area went silent for a brief moment, and was soon followed by murmurs. Out of nowhere, someone retorted, ¡°Tsk, fool. You don¡¯t know who you¡¯re getting angry and annoyed with.¡± ¡°On second thought, just beat those spoiled brats,¡± said Renna who also seemed annoyed. ¡°Brats you say? They are Elves and could possibly be older than you,¡± said Elride still in an amused expression. ¡°Anyway, I did not come to you to cause trouble,¡± he looked at us. ¡°This current situation has drained me from participating in any duels. Let¡¯s just go,¡± he ended. Soon after his last words, he left the inn. Renna followed him out, but before she exited, she turned to our direction and glared at us. ¡°It¡¯s not a wise move to get on the bad side of a Silver rank, fellas.¡± I shifted my attention to the table to us. Next to our table were 3 people, a male Human and two female Elves. Throughout the disturbance they stayed silence and only observed. From what I could tell, they were not adventures. Although, I could tell that the two female Elves were magic users. The man only said one line and left it as that. *****Elride POV***** ¡°You should have accepted the dual. I understand that you don¡¯t like to cause trouble, but you would have accepted the duel request like usual,¡± Renna huffed. Support the creativity of authors by visiting Royal Road for this novel and more. ¡°Hmm, I think it was wise for me to not have engaged that angered Elf. If he was a bit calmer I might have accepted the request.¡± Renna raised an eyebrow. However, she did not challenge my words. She could tell that their skill levels were quite high. ¡°Surely they seemed strong, but they seem young. I don¡¯t doubt your win.¡± ¡°Renna, do you know of the legendary Elves that live in the Forest of Asteria?¡± *****Aesar POV**** As we exited the inn and moved through the cobbled streets, we continued to attract attention. I¡¯m beginning to think that we should wear a mask. Then again, that might also attract quite a bit of attention. "Where are we going to, first?¡± I asked as I made my way next to him. ¡°Let¡¯s get some information about the current situation this world is in, and other information.¡± I¡¯m guessing the tavern. As we continued to walk on the street, we passed a large build. Next to the door had a sign with an image of a sword and a shield. It was the Adventure Guild. Various people in armor and armed with weapons were going in and out of the building. I had a slight interest in it. In my early days, the Adventure Guild highly piqued my interest. Ryfon would always mention adventurers in his travels that he¡¯d meet. It¡¯s quite an interesting profession, being an adventurer. After walking for some time, we arrived at a large tavern. It was early in the morning so there were not many customers inside. Thus, we were not disturbed. We walked forward and seated in front of the counter. The bartender, an Elf, gave us the drink we asked for. Afterwards, we had a chat with him and open up various subjects to gather information. From what he said, there were larger increases of monsters appearing. There was also news about 3 kingdoms, Zoswen Kingdom, Vacien Kingdom and Astac in high tension. He also told us about the currencies in countries and wide arrays of rumors. After Ryfon seemed satisfied with the information he gathered, we enjoyed the rest of our morning drinking. We left the tavern in the afternoon when it started to fill with people. I followed him outside and noticed that we did not take the same direction we took to get to the tavern from the inn. I presumed that he was too drunk to navigate, but it was not the case. Indeed we were intoxicated, but not to such an extent. I asked, ¡°Where are we headed to, next?¡± ¡°Let¡¯s go to the port and see if we can find anything, so we can leave in the morning quickly,¡± he replied. With that, we moved west of the city. It was irritating that we had to go around the noble district which was in the middle of the city just to get to the port. It was midafternoon when we decided to get something to eat for lunch. Instead of going inside a restaurant to eat, we went to a food stall to grab a quick bite. As we made our way to the port, I couldn¡¯t help but think about how the village was doing and what their situation was. I started to become impatient as I continued to brood over the subject. After walking for a while, the scent of the salty breeze intensified. Ahead of was the port. Large ships were on the ports, some were out at sea, and the area was a congested with people. Birds were everywhere, on the ships and other structures, perching noisily. I could see fishermen hauling their load for the day as the sun neared the horizon. The area was buzzing with noises from bossy captains and talkative workers. Some were drinking and going wild on a large ship. Lots of other people were transferring things to and from other ships. To my left Ryfon just stared out into the sea with and calm and solemn eyes. I also followed his example and admire the ocean. This was the first time I have ever seen it. It was truly spectacular. The smell was refreshing, the breeze was relaxing, and the sight of the blue ocean water was mesmerizing. From the thought of the ocean, my heart ached. I started to worry about my dear mother. I thought back on how she was calming, and beautiful like the sea. My expression turned from stoic to anguish. While I still continued to stare into the ocean¡¯s horizon, Ryfon called for me, ¡°Aesar.¡± I turned towards him and nodded. We continued to the port. We passed by many people, but some were too busy to take notice of us. Afterwards we went to a large stone building. However, we did not go inside it. Off to the left side of the building was a receptionist. After gathering information from the receptionist on what ship was heading to Galedria tomorrow, we searched for a large ship with two Nereids carved on its side, as the receptionist described. After scanning through the area filled with ships, I saw the ship we were looking for. It was large, 100 meters in length with large and tall sails. At the highest point of the ship was a green flag with an image of an unfamiliar bird. When we neared the ship, Ryfon asked for the captain. However, he was unavailable. Since we had already confirmed on what ship to take in the morning, we decided to call it a day. Chapter 8 After Aesar and Ryfon finished their breakfast, they left the inn after staying there for two nights. During breakfast there were no notable problems that occurred, so they continued on leisurely. They made their way towards the port where they were supposed to set sail. After walking for a while a large ship with two beautiful ladies carved on its side came into view. Aesar and Ryfon had refreshed looks. They started to progress their quest to save their village. They walked normally to the busy and buzzing streets, carefully maneuvering through the crowds of people that had their own agenda. Some fishermen were setting sail early in the cool morning and other people boarded other ships with their luggage, probably wanted to also set sail across the sea to another kingdom. Once they neared the directed ship, a man stood in front of the walk way that lead on board the ship. Ryfon approached the man in brown leather armor with a single short sword on his right hip. ¡°25 silver each person,¡± the man spoke in a natural scowl. At this, Ryfon gave him 1 Gold coin. After all, 50 Silver coins was equivalent to 1 Gold coin. After Ryfon paid the man, the two went on board the ship. From looks alone, it was quite clear that the ship was well taken care off. The two were also able to sense that the hull of the boat was enhanced by magic. This was so the ship could withstand attacks from sea creatures or pirates. There were two large poles on the deck; each one had large sails, the mainsail which was the largest sail, and the mizzen the sail behind the main sail on a ship. On the rear of the ship was the bridge which was elevated and was on top of the cabin. On the bridge were 3 people, an elf, a man, and a woman. From the controlling and strong voice the woman spoke, she could be viewed as the captain of the ship. She wore silver leather armor, dark brown pants, and she was equipped with a short sword on her right hip, and a dagger on the other side. Her eyes gleamed menacingly at two individual in front of her and spoke loudly, ¡°Go prepare everything. I¡¯ll let it slide this time, okay? Now move!¡± ¡°Yes, Captain,¡± the two spoke in unison. After the man and the elf¡¯s scolding, they hurried down the stairs from the bridge to the deck and then entered through a hatch below the deck. Afterwards, the woman let out a sigh of frustration and turned her attention to two certain individuals, Aesar and Ryfon. From their sight, she had a piqued interest, but she only observed the two, for it was rude to pry from passengers. Her observations did not go unnoticed. Ryfon who stared back at her, gave a charming smile and wink at the woman. From Ryfon¡¯s actions, the woman gave an arched brow. But soon after, Aesar and Ryfon made their way to the stairs near the boarding area and entered in the lower levels of the deck where passengers would stay. They looked for their room numbered 8 as what the naturally, scowling admission directed. They walked along a narrow corridor, barely enough for two people to stand side by side with their arms down. After walking for a short time, they passed rooms 1 to 7 and stopped in front of room number 8. Ryfon reached out on the bronze colored doorknob and turned it, causing a small click. After opening the door, they were greeted by two bunk beds and a small room. It was a rather simple room. The bed sheets were white and off to the side of the room was a circular window where the port could be seen along with crowds of people. ¡°Seems better than the last ship I went on,¡± Ryfon broke the silence. Aesar though back to the tale Ryfon told him a long time ago. When Ryfon returned to Endendas Kingdom, he arrived in a pirate ship. Of course, the pirates were either dead or unconscious. ¡°We¡¯re here quite early, want to go on the top deck with me?¡± offered Ryfon. ¡°Maybe later, I¡¯d like to meditate a bit. While you¡¯re out, ask the captain or anyone with information on our departure and arrival. They only said that we would leave in the morning, I¡¯d like knowing things in details.¡± ¡°I¡¯ll go and ask. As for our arrival, from my experience, I¡¯d say that we would probably arrive in Galedria Kingdom in a few days ¨C 4 to 5 days. It¡¯ll depend on how many mages we have on this ship, as well as sea monster encounters. But with us here, those monsters shouldn¡¯t be a problem. It¡¯s too bad we can¡¯t do much with spells to help out with the casting effective wind spells to speed up the ship.¡± Ryfon looked a bit depressed. He was an excellent warrior, but he was not adept in the projections of magic, a being a mage. He was alright, perhaps good or slightly above average at best. Unauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Report any sightings. With that, Aesar watched the back of Ryfon as he closed the door behind him. Now alone, Aesar sat on the wooden floor of the ship and crossed his legs then closed his eyes. Soon after, he pulsated with power internally. His blood started to boil from the amount of power. His breathing became heavy as if large amounts of weight were placed on his chest. Despite the heavy breathing, he was doing it so, rhythmically. Meanwhile, Ryfon was making his way up the stairs to the top of the deck. From such a short time, the boarding area became packed with people carrying luggage. ¡®We must be leaving soon,¡¯ he thought. He scanned the area for the captain. Although he could just ask for the worker for information, he desired for the beautiful captain. He was not in a good state since the incident, and he hope to do something to cheer himself up. He did not have to scan long, for she was in the same spot the last time he saw her. After directing his gaze towards her, he admired the tight brown pants the complimented her wondrous curves and long legs. He then slowly shifted is eye from her legs to her face, while slowly showing desire for her nice waistline and generous breast that greedily covered by her silver leather armor. Once his gaze shifted on her almond brown eyes, he advanced towards her direction. Normally she would disapprove of any advances from men, but she had a held interest in the two, so she allowed Ryfon¡¯s advances. Just when he was about to arrive at the base of the stairs to the bridge, 3 Humans moved in front of his path, a man dressed in brown leather armor, and two young women dressed in silver cloth armor. The two women, who stood to his front right, were stunning. And judging from their attire, they were most likely the mage that would cast wind spells to increase the sailing speed of the ship. ¡°Whoa there, lad,¡± said the man. Although, the captain had an interest in Aesar and Ryfon, she did not help out in Ryfon¡¯s advance, for she enjoyed the scene before her. On her face was a condescending look as she observed the him struggling. ¡°I just want to ask a few questions,¡± said Ryfon. ¡°If it¡¯s to ask her to bed you, you¡¯re better off turning away now before the things get out of hand,¡± a woman with brown hair who wore silver cloth armor, spoke. ¡°Quite a dirty mind you got there, pretty lady. I just wanted to ask on the time of our departure.¡± From this, the man to his front right, burst into laughter and caused the woman who said the words to blush. ¡°Oh, stop. We saw your leering look directed at Captain Valentine,¡± the other armor-clothed woman intervened with fierce beautiful blue eyes. ¡°Isabel,¡± Valentine stared at the blushing girl then shifted to the other woman, ¡°Susan,¡± then stared at the laughing man, ¡°Piers, that enough.¡± She then continued, ¡°You could have asked the other crew members for that information, they are well informed with the departure scheduled. Anyway, it won¡¯t matter anymore, we will soon leave.¡± Seeing that the situation was not advantageous for him he retreated, ¡°You¡¯re right. I just thought that you would be more fitting to ask.¡± ¡®She¡¯s tougher than that Hydra; I haven¡¯t retreated since that time I fought multiple ones, after all. No worries, perhaps I can go after the woman called Isabel or Susan,¡¯ he thought to himself. ¡®They are not bad. Maybe Aesar could also have fun with one of them,¡¯ he continued to think about the two women. With that, Ryfon turned to the two girls and showed an interest in the two of them, and made his way back to his room. The two women were left flustered at the sight of a very handsome and strong looking elf showing interest in them. This cause the man named, Piers, to morph his amused face into a scowl of anger. He had always had lust for Isabel and Susan, but they showed no interest in him. Valentine only stared at his back as he disappeared from view into the lower deck. Chapter 9 AN: It''s been a busy week for me. After today, I should be able to release more frequently. Well, that''s the plan. I feel like I need a better description for my story, but I¡¯m not very good at making it. If anyone has suggestions, please PM me. But if everyone thinks it''s fine, I''ll leave it as is. ---------------------------- ¡°Captain, we¡¯re ready to set sail!¡± ¡°Good. Hoist up the anchor and let¡¯s set sail.¡± With that, a large chain on the side of the ship slowly clinks and clanks as it retracted through an opening. After a large, heavy Iron object with a pair of curved flukes hung on the side of the ship, a woman by the name Valentine, commanded, ¡°Raise the sails.¡± With her command 2 crew members unharnessed a large rope form a large handle where it was tied to and hoisted it up along with the sail. Having a satisfied look on Valentine¡¯s face from the bridge of the ship where the steering wheel ship was located, she turn the wheel towards the right side of the boat causing it to shift west while slowing being pushed by a soft breeze. After a short while, Valentine commanded two very young women that looked like they were in their early twenties to cast wind magic. With her command the two women named, Susan and Isabel chanted various words as mana in their bodies gradually became active and then started influence the nature around them. With their chant finished, a large gust of wind propelled that large ship forward at great speed. *** ¡°It¡¯s a bit bumpy,¡± said Aesar as he broke off from his meditation. Ryfon glanced at him and said, ¡°Want to go up on the deck and see what it¡¯s like in the middle of the ocean? If you¡¯re new to the feeling it can be quite scary and at the same time you¡¯ll be amazed by the vast amount of blue water that encircles you as far as the eye can see.¡± ¡°It¡¯s not like we have anything better to do.¡± Aesar said then grab his sword he placed down when he meditated. With that, the two exited their room and made their way through the hall and up the stairs to the top deck. Upon exiting the bottom deck, strong yet pleasant winds greeted them. Aesar welcomed the view that was before him. He turned his head to the rear of the ship and saw the now small port they were at, and continued to become smaller as they furthered. He then turned his head to the bow of the ship where only the clear blue ocean and light blue sky entered his field of vision. Form the green forest to the colorful city and now the blue sea; he could barely fathom the experience. ¡°I know how you feel,¡± said Ryfon off to the side in an upheld look. After quickly breaking off from sightseeing the ocean, he then turned his attention to the ship. Not many were out on the deck. Only a small number of crew members identified by a green cloth with an image of a Nereid tied to their arm. There were also two beautiful women in the center of the ship, with concentrated looks. To the bridge of the ship was a woman with her hands on a steering wheel. ***Ryfon POV*** ¡®Looks like Aesar in having a good time observing things¡¯ I made my way towards Susan and Isabel, hoping to start a conversation with the two. ¡®They are rather young to be out working like this. I guess that woman, Valentine is safeguarding them. She does seem strong enough to do so.¡¯ Stopping near them, I greeted, ¡°Hello, Susan and Isabel.¡± ¡°Ah, sorry about before um¡¡± ¡°Ryfon,¡± I finished Isabel¡¯s sentence. ¡°So, do you um¡ need anything?¡± she asked. ¡°Not in particular. I was hoping to maybe have a chat with you and Susan, just to pass time.¡± ¡°Sure, but Valentine doesn¡¯t like it when men gets too close to us.¡± ¡°I won¡¯t harm you two,¡± I asserted them. ¡°Ryfon, who was that person with you,¡± Susan interjected. I decided to call for Aesar who was standing on the right side of the ship, observing the surroundings of the ship. He made his way towards my direction. From this, Isabel and Susan turned their attention to him. ¡°Yes? What is it?¡± Ladies, this is my nephew, Aesar.¡± The two girls observed Aesar intently while admiring his stunning look. With now a pair, we chatted away. *** The sun was at its peak when the boat started to slow down. Susan and Isabel were now nearly drained of mana. From their exhaustion, the two girls took a well-deserved break. Throughout the morning to the afternoon, they enjoyed the idle chat they had with Aesar and Ryfon. The subject of discussion range from their favorites things to their life story and adventure. When Ryfon told them of his adventure from years ago, the two girls were listen to his stories in admirations and awe. Tales like his were a feast to the ears. Of course, he only said the good parts, and he did not speak of their current situation. Although Isabel and Susan were quite tired, they were resting delightedly. They have never had such conversation with anyone including Valentine. It was refreshing for the two girls. As they were resting with Aesar and Ryfon with them, Valentine who was on the bridge wholly observed them. She intended to intervene when Ryfon approached the two girls, but decided to wait to act on her earlier judgment. As they continued to talk without any problems and saw that her Isabel and Susan were enjoying themselves, she decided to let them be. With the ship now sailing smoothly, Valentine went to the cabin and decided to take a quick rest herself. However, as she made her way to the cabin, she told one of her crew member to keep an eye on Ryfon and Aesar. With the now smooth sailing, some passengers emerge from their rooms to get a breath of fresh air. Some of the passengers however had a nauseated look. This was due to the uneven movements of the ship as it sailed in great speed. The rest of the day continued on without a hitch. Isabel and Susan rested the rest of the day to refill their mana and use it for the next day. *** On second day of sailing, the morning was nearly identical to the previous one. Aesar and Ryfon continued to chat with the two girls. However, it became transparent that they were also enjoying the interaction just as much as the girls. On Isabel¡¯s and Susan¡¯s break, Aesar¡¯s delighted face from his interactions with the two girls became a facade as he masked his true emotions upon sensing from a distance. He sensed a couple of ships approaching them. He however could not tell if they were pirates or just another ship passing by, so he stayed silent. Nonetheless, he stayed vigilant and continues to enjoy his interactions with his now new found friends. After a while, a man on the crow¡¯s nest sounded an alarm with a loud whistle. ¡°Pirates! Get the Captain!¡± he shouted. From this, a man on the deck burst into Valentines cabin. Every crew member on the ship ordered the passengers that were currently on the top deck to go to their rooms in the lower deck. However, some of the passengers stayed. Those passengers that stayed were a few Iron rank and 1 Steel rank Adventurers from the showcase of their Adventurers¡¯ Medallion. ¡°Mmm, pirate slaying. Sounds fun,¡± one of the Adventurers commented. 23 battle-ready Crew members were on the deck, preparing for incoming attack. Although the situation was dangerous, there were no chaotic activities within the deck; only slight panic and anxiety with a tinge of fear. It was not wrong to feel such emotions, for they knew what fate would befall among them if the pirates were to have their way. Some may be slain and others would become slaves, or worse. The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident. Isabel and Susan had panicked and alarmed looks. ¡°Aesar and Ryfon, you two should return to your rooms,¡± Isabel said in a worried tone. ¡°I¡¯ll help out. I know you may have some doubts to some of my stories I¡¯ve told you, but they are real, and Aesar and I are quite strong. You don¡¯t need to worry about us,¡± asserted Ryfon. ¡°But still, what if you two were to get hurt?¡± said Isabel with Susan nodding in agreement. Although it did not show, both Aesar and Ryfon were touched by the care they displayed. They have grown fond of each other throughout their interactions. Although they were incredibly strong and fought monsters that would turn anyone mad in hysteria, they had a soft heart. After a brief moment, Valentine emerged from her cabin with a dangerous look on her face. ¡°Everyone to position! Mages and archers, prepare for range attacks.¡± With her orders, 6 people moved up front towards 3 fast-nearing ships almost the same size of the one they were on. The faces of the 23 crew members were focused, but had a tinge of anxiety from the site of 3 pirate ships. From the looks of it, the pirate ships had mages casting wind spells, judging from its fast sailing speed. ¡°Isabel and Susan, get inside the cabin, now!¡± Valentine ordered the two girls. Isabel and Susan hesitantly moved towards the cabin then turned their heads to Aesar and Ryfon as if they were urging them to come with them, but Ryfon only shook his head. And with that, the girls headed towards the cabin with one crew member. Before they entered, they said, ¡°Please stay safe.¡± Valentine then turned to Aesar and Ryfon. ¡°We¡¯ll help out,¡± said Ryfon. Valentine did not comment. She was putting her passengers in harm¡¯s way, but they were willing, and they needed all the help trying to fight off the 3 pirate ships. ¡°3 pirate ships¡¡± Piers, who moved next to Valentine uttered in anxiety. However, Valentine did not respond and only observed everyone on deck. There were a total of 31 on deck prepared to fight, including her. ¡°Valentine, why did you not order Hathiel to cast his wind spell to out sail the pirate ships?¡± asked Piers. ¡°We probably won¡¯t lose those ships. It¡¯s sized is a bit smaller than ours, so with that, they will most like catch up to us given time. It¡¯s best to have Hathiel save his mana for combat. Hathiel was their ships emergency wind spell caster for times when they needed to sail fast from danger, but it seems as though that his role has changed. With everything prepare, they waited for the pirate ships to come closer. As the pirate ships neared, about 17 pirate crews were on each pirate ships came into view. As the pirate ship came closer, its speed decreased. Now only 100 meters, Valentine ordered her range attackers to attack. She knew better than to let the pirate ships come closer or wait for a bargain that is no different than having no bargain at all. With her order, 4 mages started to chant and 2 archers pulled back the string of their bows while infusing the arrow and the bow with mana, strengthening it. The archers were the first to launch their attacks at the pirate ship located in-between the other pirate ships. With their excellent shooting skills, one died as an arrow pierced his left eye and out to the other side of his head. The other arrow pierced a woman¡¯s shoulder injuring her. Soon after, 4 large fireballs the size of a head flew towards the pirate ships. Each of the pirate ships received a fireball, however, the one in the middle receive an extra one. Upon impact the fireballs exploded in a 5 meter radius, burning and injuring a total of 5 pirates. The mages attacked 3 more times and the archers were able to attack a total of 10 times. There were now a total of 7 dead pirates and 12 injured ones. 15 meters were now between Valentines ship and the pirate ships since she ordered her attack. ¡°Focus fire on the one in the middle.¡± Before anyone turned their heads to whoever said those words, Ryfon lunged onboard the pirate ship to the left, and Aesar went to the one on the right. Everyone was caught-off guard by the sudden exclamation and the two individuals. ***Aesar POV*** After Ryfon briefed me on his simple plan, we engaged the pirate ship. After I launched myself into the air, I unsheathed my silver greatsword onto a man directly in front of my path. As I landed, the man was cut in half from head to toe. This was the first time I have killed a humanoid life form, but it did not bothered me. They were enemies that would hurt my friends and that was all I needed to know to execute them. The feeling was no different from killing the monsters in the Forest of Asteria that would harm my village. Before the man I sliced fell on the ground, I had already made my way to the next victim, a hardened woman with a single sword on her right hand. But before she could even move from my advances my sword swiftly and cleanly passed through her neck, leaving her head still ¡®intact¡¯ on her body from my precise slash. Soon after, like flowing water, I moved from person to person, executing them without any resistances. Before the body of first man I killed fell, everyone on the top deck of the pirate ship I was on were now lifeless bodies, some in pieces. However, since the people in Valentines ship were slow, I made my way to the pirate ship in the middle that was left untaken care of. But before I moved, I destroyed the two large poles that held the sails to prevent it from sailing away. I sensed that there were a few people still inside the ship and thought of checking on them afterwards. With the current and evident threat on this ship gone, I launched myself into the air and onto the middle pirate ship. Upon landing on the middle pirate ship, in a blink on an eye, everyone on the top deck of the pirate ship was dead. I moved to the bridge of the pirate ship where the steering wheel was located and steered it away from the direction of Valentines¡¯ ship. It wasn¡¯t too hard to figure it out. I took a glance over to the pirate ship where Ryfon advanced. Just like the pirate ships I went to, the pirate ship he was on was also littered with corpses, but I was not able to see him on the top deck. He was inside the ship. *** Everyone on Valentines ship was left silent. Some rubbed their eyes in disbelief, believing that what they saw was an illusion. It was not a brief moment ago that they heard voice to focus on the middle pirate ship. Before they could I even take a single breath, everyone on the pirate ship was slaughtered. ¡°W-what happened?¡± Valentine let out a soft voice in confusion. Her mouth was at a gape with widening eyes trying to comprehend the events that passed in a single breath. She was not the only one; everyone in her ship was left dumbfounded. Valentine turned her head from left to right, casting her gaze over the 3 pirate ships that were now covered in lifeless bodies. In the middle of it all was an individual who she I identified as one of the men who chatted with Isabel and Susan. ¡°There are still people inside this pirate ship.¡± With Aesar¡¯s words, Valentine, the rest of the crew members and adventurers broke from their daze. Presuming that the people still inside the pirate ship were slave or prisoners, she ordered her crew members to board on the ships and rescue or detain anyone inside. After her orders, she continued to stare at Aesar. ------------------------------------- Map of Helios Chapter 10 A.N: Please point out any mistakes on the story, and leave suggestions. ****************************************** 2 days have passed since the pirate attack. Ever since then, everyone on the ship was in awe of Aesar and Ryfon. Some asked various questions as to their identity and origins. Other stayed away from the exuding amount of power the two displayed, fearing and admiring from afar, while presuming that they were in the presence of a Gold ¨C if not, Platinum rank individuals. It was clear that everyone on the ship were constantly talking about them in excitement and admiration. However, Aesar and Ryfon did not like the attention they were receiving and ignored everyone. From this, everyone who wanted to open up to them after the pirate attack stopped their advances and kept their distance. None dared to annoy them further. Even when some passenger would talk about them, when they would appear, they would soon silence and stare. After the pirate attack, 13 slaves and 7 pirates were inside the 3 pirate ships during Aesar and Ryfon¡¯s execution. On Valentines¡¯ orders, the remaining pirates were beheaded and thrown into the ocean. Some of the passengers refuted her barbaric actions, but was quickly silenced when she coldheartedly told them that she would not waste food and money on keeping those criminals alive. Realizing that they could not persuade her actions, they returned to their rooms, to not observe the pirates demise. The 13 slaves were taken care of by some of Valentines crew members. They were feed and afterwards they rested on top of the deck. To Valentines surprise, the slaves were not in such a terrible state. They were a bit skinny, had a few scars, and their mind still seemed strong, but nothing major. For a slave of a pirate ship, they were quite fine for the most part. Valentine couldn¡¯t find a way to interact with Aesar and Ryfon after 2 days of the pirate attack. She was nervous and overall couldn¡¯t get herself to talk with them. This was a first for her. To ask about whom they were, or what they were doing, was not her. She had only ever observed people she had a piqued interest with, for entertainment. Her ship was nearing Reddell City in Galedria Kingdom; she wanted to satisfy her curiosity. It did not help that she condescendingly observed Ryfon on their first meeting. ***Aesar POV*** Across from where I sat were two beautiful, young women. Susan, with brown, short hair braided that revealed a strong, stunning beauty. Her piercing blue eyes were concentrated on Ryfon. However, my main attention was on Isabel. Her brown, long hair slightly covers a full, friendly face. Glittering blue eyes were delightedly fixed on my own, as we talked about each other untroubled. Ryfon and I were taking an immense liking to the two girls. They were very kind and confortable to be with. During the past 4 days sailing, we got to know each other very well. They even talked about what their relationship they had with Valentine. The subject of discussion went deeper as hours passed. From what they told me and Ryfon, Isabel and Susan were sisters that used to be in a middle class family in Vacien Kingdom. They schooled in a small mage academy to improve their good potential in magic. 9 years ago, their mother and father were killed by Orc bandits when they were returning home after selling merchandise in a neighboring town. It took a while for them to receive the devastating news of their parent¡¯s deaths. And when they received the news, they were a complete loss and devastation. But With the friends their parents made, they were able to receive some form support. A few months after their parent¡¯s death, Valentine came to their place to visit her sister, who was Isabel¡¯s and Susan¡¯s mother. She did not take her sister¡¯s death very well and mourned for days as her heart ached for her beloved sister. Having only her sister¡¯s daughter as her family, Valentine decided to take Isabel and Susan under her wing afterwards. For many years Isabel and Susan were supported by Valentine. Whenever the two girls were on their vacation, they would help Valentine with her job. However, it did not go well the first time. It took a lot of convincing and time before Valentine would allow their participation on managing her ship. After Isabel and Susan matured, Valentine finally gave in on their demands. However, Valentine had to increase the combatants on her ship to assure her nieces¡¯ safety. We continued to talk as the day grew dimmer. When night came, Isabel sat up from her seat a stretched out her arms. Upon a closer look of her face, she had a contemplating with a hint of sadness. After a brief moment, she asked anxiously, ¡°Where do you think we can see each other again, after tomorrow?" At her question, Susan turned silent and had her head down, seeming sadden by the upcoming events. I stayed silent, signaling for Ryfon to say something. ¡°Don¡¯t look upset, me and Aesar will come and visit you two again.¡± Ryfon turned his head towards me then stared back at the two girls ¡°We promise,¡± he said with a smile. ***Ryfon POV*** The morning rays of the sun and soft breeze against my skin felt incredible, like being hugged by happiness itself. Off the distance I could see land. It was Galedria Kingdom. I then turned my attention on the ship. On the bridge was Valentine, who was startled by my sudden glance directed towards her. ¡®I can¡¯t blame her for her current view on me. I¡¯ve never really had a good indication of my Power Ranking. For sure though, I am Gold or better. I had a fight with a Gold rank adventurer 80 years ago and won easily. The Power Ranking is very interesting, and I would love to know about where Aesar and I would stand on the rankings. Perhaps, I should join the Adventurer¡¯s Guild and rank up to where my power stands or fight a Platinum rank. There are also Legends, so called Heroes, and Sages that would be interesting to meet to test my strength on aside from Aesar. Or maybe even deities, ha ha ha.¡¯ After I was immersed in my thoughts, I made my way toward Isabel, and Susan, who stopped casting wind spells a moment ago, and I ignored the stares directed at me as I walked. Before I could even say anything to greet them, Susan hastily asked, ¡°You haven¡¯t forgotten where we live in Vacien, right? And if you¡¯re lost, just ask. And remember, we¡¯re here on Valentines¡¯ ship during the Fire season (summer). Be careful when you¡¯re looking for that person in Cyri Empire, making enemies there can spell doom.¡± I told Isabel and Susan that Aesar and I were looking for a relative in Cyri Empire that hasn¡¯t contacted us in a while. I didn¡¯t tell her the truth for obvious reasons. I smiled and cut her off, ¡°Okay, okay. And as for you and Isabel, become the greatest mage.¡± ¡°We surely will,¡± Isabel inserted herself in the conversation with a determined look. Both Isabel and Susan were impressed by Aesar¡¯s and my power after they were informed of our accomplishment during the pirate attack. Upon being informed, they received a spark of incredible amount of aspiration to become stronger. Shortly after I engaged a conversation with the two girls, Aesar appeared from the lower deck. He had a saddened look on his face. Meeting Isabel and Susan was what we needed, but now, we have to experience another sorrowful farewell. The rest of the way, we remained silent as the land of Galedria Kingdom grew into size as we neared. On the shore of Galedria was a city called Reddell City. The city wasn¡¯t as impressive as Crystal City, but in no way does it mean that Reddell City was lacking. Similar to Crystal City, Reddell City was surrounded by massive walls, but the walls that face the ocean were shorter. The city was sloped up from the ocean so the entire city was visible, not having the wall hindering the view. The buildings were similar to Crystal City; all the buildings were finely built with white or beige colored stone. Near the docking area were seagulls, and other birds of prey either perched or circling around the fisher men¡¯s area. And along the waters, were various boats either docking or sailing from where we just came from. Just like Crystal City¡¯s port, it was very busy. Nothing¡¯s really change since the last time I¡¯ve been here. After the ship docked, and every other passenger aside from me and Aesar left, Isabel and Susan said their goodbyes and future plans for meeting again.
