《The demon of the past》 Prologue: The crappy beginning ¡±In darkness he slumbers until one day he will be released by a maiden.¡± -Fye ¡±But teacher, isn''t that just a myth?¡± -Sarah ¡±You never know if the myths are true Sarah.¡± -Fye ¡±That''s what you always say teacher!¡± -Sarah ¡ Fye who was a history teacher at Ark''s academy of the arcane. Ark being the town it was located in. It holds a lot of nobles who study magic and alchemy and is one of the top academies in the country. The town Ark is located in the country of Humae. The country itself is comprised of 5 main towns and 10 villages, some big and some small. Every town has a ruler of it''s own but they all follow the councils orders. The council is an order made by the humans and elves who started the revolution to overthrow the current king. The council is comprised of both humans and elves of both genders and are selected by the public for their knowledge and for their actions after signing up for the job themselves. If the public is not satisfied with the councils members they can throw away the ones they did not like and keep the ones they like. The thrown away council members will have to pay a fine for the damage they have done and will be stripped of any authority he or she might have held. This system makes it so only the best are chosen and that they take their job seriously. This also makes it so that the council is highly trusted and very appreciated. The Humae country as you might have guessed is comprised of only humans and elves. The other countries are Demda and Dwadra. Demda is comprised of only demons and dark elves while Dwadra is comprised of only dwarfs and draconians. The countries aren''t at war but the races who live there won''t allow permanent stay in the country if you are not one of them. There are multiple cases of being sold as a slave if one breaks the law or tries to steal anything while in the country of another race. Demda and Dwadra do not use the council system that the country of Humae use and instead opt for monarchy in which the countries are run by a king and nobles. Making them a lot more dangerous than Humae. ¡ In a sealed tomb not far into region in Humae covered in forest something stirs. There in a stone sarcophagus lies a demon. He looked to be around 24 years old and 173 centimeters tall. He had black hair, red skin and was fairly muscular with 4 horns evenly placed on his forehead. He suddenly opens his light gray eyes and says. ¡°why did they have to seal me in this kind of place?¡± -demon ¡°Well whatever I just need to get out of here and see how the world has been without me.¡± -demon And so he ventured into the halls that where branching out from the main chamber in which his sarcophagus lie. It took around 2 hours of walking until he gave up in finding the exit and returned to the main chamber. ¡°guess I will just have to wait until someone comes along since I don''t wanna risk destroying any settlements or kill anyone close to the tomb.¡± So he waited until one day a maiden appeared. ¡ Outside of an old graveyard in the middle of Humae forest (yes they named it after the country since it surrounds the country and acts like a border) Stood a cloaked individual. The cloaked individual appeared to have a feminine figure and wore a brown leather cloak with a hood. The individual had a short sword similar to a viking short sword strapped to her leather belt. Enjoying the story? Show your support by reading it on the official site. She also had a small pouch and a larger pouch hanging from her belt as well. This was obviously an adventurer who had little to no money or liked to travel lightly. There where no clear reasons for why a female adventurer would be searching amongst the graves in this old and abandoned cemetery. Nonetheless it was clear she was searching for something seeing as she was not going in an obvious direction and that she was stopping and taking a good look around before she moved on. She finally seemed to stop at the entrance of an old tomb and started to examine the giant wooden door. The door had beautiful designs of demons and humans fighting in a large battle while dragons where soaring through the skies. She kept looking for a way to open the door and she finally found a lever hidden behind a loose stone brick (It was a tiny lever). The door opened slowly and what greeted her was a dark corridor heading down into the depths of the tomb. She took out a small crystal out of her large pouch and when she touched it, it started to glow. She then entered the tomb. After a while she came upon the main chamber and saw there was a sarcophagus in the middle with detailed paintings of several demons on the walls. She looked over towards the sarcophagus and noticed it didn''t have a lid. She quickly looked around and noticed the lid had been moved and was leaning against a wall in the right corner. She became a bit nervous but decided she would move forward. ¡ He awoke to the sound of footsteps. ''Ah that must be my escort, she or he is a bit late though.'' He stood up and then heard a noise. ¡ She had gotten half way to the sarcophagus when a demon quickly stood up still inside the sarcophagus. ¡°Eeeep¡± A small sound came out and she held her hands up to cover her mouth but it was too late since the demon had already turned to face her. ¡ ¡°Hello there young elf. Are you my escort?¡± -the demon ¡°N..no I was going to look for some gold in this tomb and I stumbled upon your sarcophagus.¡± -Unknown elf ¡°Well I happen to have been sealed in here and I am need of someone to show me the way out. How about we strike a deal? I will give you some of my gold and you will lead me to the exit?¡± -the demon ¡°Well alright¡ I will accept your deal, mister¡?¡± -Unknown elf ¡°Call me Haze.¡± -Haze ¡°My name is Cela and I am from the kingdom of Humae, Nice to meet you Haze!¡± Cela said while her eyes gleaming with happiness. ¡°A pleasure to meet you too Cela.¡± Haze said with a grin. ¡ The end of the prologue. I will continue this fiction for however long I can but don''t expect any fast updates since I am very bad at coming up with ideas and planning the chapters out. This story is going to be mainly about Haze and his adventure through the world after he has woken up from his slumber. You will be informed of his past as he takes on dangerous missions and maybe finds his calling in the end. Rest assured even if I get bored of writing it I will finish it but the quality might drop or the updates maybe slower. Sincerely Herbin45 an insane Swedish guy living with his mom. Chapter 1: The town of Vale is full of adventurers? Cela and Haze where walking through the tomb silently. Cela had an expression of joy while Haze bore one of confusion while looking at Cela who was radiating happiness. It would seem that Haze had given Cela enough gold to live a rich lifestyle for around 40 years and all Cela had to do was guide him to the exit. ''Who is this demon? To have so much gold in his small bags.'' Cela thought idly while glancing over at Haze. ''Must be some kind of high noble who got himself stuck here.'' Cela thought and shrugged. ¡°We are almost at the exit now Haze.¡± -Cela ¡°Excellent! It has been far too long since I have seen the outside world!¡± As they reach the exit they are blinded by the rays of 3 stars that the planet of Kiera switch orbiting between. What star they are orbiting around determines the weather of the whole planet and if it''s orbiting a closer star then it is of course hotter and as such summer over the whole planet. But if Kiera is orbiting a star that is far away then it gets extremely cold and winter all over the planet. And thus most of the creatures have specialized for survival on the planet. They are equipped with either hair so warm it melts snow in a 1m radius around them or have an internal mechanism which regulates the temperature of their bodies by using up more energy or less energy. As such the creatures who live on Kiera are mostly ferocious beasts who eat a lot of meat. There are of course herbivores but they are usually small and insignificant and live underground in the winter and come out in the summer. The creatures on Kiera fight for survival as they kill each other and devour each other and so the population of the planet is of course well trained to fight and defend against them. The races of Kiera once had no magic but that changed one day when some scholars discovered the remnants of a Faeling. Faelings are giant beasts as big as mountains and are thought to be invincible against anything other than themselves. The Faeling they discovered was a magical Faeling. There are 3 types of Faelings, the first of which is the magical Faeling, second is the physical Faeling and the third is the mythical Faeling which no one has ever seen before. The physical Faeling is a Faeling who cannot use magic like the magical Faelings can and they grant enormous strength when killed. The magical Faelings are Faelings who only use magic and have almost no physical strength whatsoever and grants powerful magic to the one who killed it. The mythical Faeling is a Faeling who has both the physical power of the physical Faeling who can cast powerful magic like the magical Faeling. The scholars who found the dead magical Faeling studied the creature and learnt a small portion of its power and managed to become the first wizards in the history of Kiera. They came to be known as the wizards of origin and where hailed for being some of the most powerful wizards in the world. Well with the history lesson over I will now continue the story. ¡ As Haze and Cela took relaxed steps out from the tomb Haze was basking in the beauty of it all. The stars rays beaming down through the trees and creating beautiful shadows. Haze noticed a significant difference already as the plants in the old world did not look anything like these. The plants in the old world where brown and red but these new plants ranged from green without flowers to green with multiple flowers in varying colour. The trees and grass looked a lot more lively and everything was a lot more happy looking than the cold desolate wastes where he grew up and lived until he was sealed. He was truly happy to see the world in such a wonderful light. As he stood there basking the midday light Cela had already started moving away from the cemetery on her way home. She had gotten what she needed and did not want to spend another moment in the old ruins of the cemetery. ¡°Thanks for guiding me to the exit Cela!¡± -Haze ¡°No worries Haze and thanks for the gold, if you ever need help with anything don''t be afraid to ask me. I live in a town not far from here.¡± Cela replied while smiling and then turning around and walking happily away glad to have met Haze. As Haze stood looking at Cela walking away he started planning on what to do and where to go. ''I should search for somewhere I can find knowledge about the world as it is now. I will start with this town Cela mentioned.'' He started to walk slowly in the direction Cela was heading while admiring all of the new plants. ¡ Fredrik is the commander of the guards in the Vale and is highly looked up on in the community for his outstanding leadership and engagement in his work. He is a role model for a lot of kids in Vale and is generally kind and helpful. However he takes his work very seriously and accompanies his guards on watch duty in case of invasions. This day was a fairly peaceful day with only a couple of beasts spotted with no attacks. As he was looking out into the forest and trying to spot movement of possible beasts or demonic armies, he spotted a lone traveller who seems to be walking leisurely. However this traveller was a demon, war loving savages who live to fight. In Fredriks eyes this was a threat. This tale has been unlawfully lifted without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. ¡°Halt demon!¡± -Fredrik ¡°Hello humans!¡± Haze replied with a smile. ¡°State your business and we will search you for any weapons or other potentially harmful objects!¡± -Frederil ¡°I am seeking knowledge about the world and if I cannot find it here I will leave.¡± -Haze ¡°Very well. Guards search him!¡± The guards did as they where told by their trusted commander. ¡°It looks like he''s clean sir!¡± -guard ¡°Very well you may enter demon.¡± -Fredrik And so Haze was on his way again. He was pleasantly surprised by the size of the town and the amount of people walking around. He didn''t think much of the stares he was receiving as he thought it was the norm. Vale was a peaceful place while still being near the border between Humae and Demda. Vale was mostly an adventurer town meaning almost all of the tax was generated by the adventurers who would pass by. It is a town largely populated by adventurers and merchants targeting their wares towards adventurers. There are of course some food stalls for the local residents and a couple of tailors but nothing big. Vale has a massive guard force making up for ? of the population. The town was quite big considering it only had about 20000 citizens. The town was designed with safety in mind and it showed since all of the streets where patrolled and there where few dark alleys. Although despite that there is still a lot of theft since a lot of thieves want the gold the adventurers are carrying around. As Haze had been wandering around aimlessly for the past 20 minutes in the town there was something that intrigued him. There where no weapon stands for citizens to grab weapons if there was an invasion. The citizens relied entirely on the local guards to defend them during an invasion. Haze had lived in a time where war between the 6 races was at its worst and they had skirmishes almost everyday. He had been a recruit in the early days of the war and had fought alongside his companions which he did not know if they where still alive or not. Many of his companions died in the early days, but the ones who lived where made into battle hardened elites. As Haze was remembering such fine memories he suddenly smelled a lovely smell coming from a shop named The frolicking frog. He entered the shop and was greeted by shelves with small vials made with a technique of pottery. The material they where made from was similar to clay. As he stood there admiring the beautiful designs, a man dressed in a simple brown apron, a dirtied white shirt and some simple pants came from around the back of the shop. ¡°Are you looking for something particular?¡± -merchant apprentice ¡°Well I would like to know what all of these vials are storing and what it is used for.¡± -Haze ¡°Have you never heard of alchemy before? The vials contain mixtures of different ingredients combined in an alchemy lab. The labs costs around 20 gold or so and are usually sold in general stores or specialized lab stores. The specialized labs are for those with a specific potion making technique and are usually ordered by blueprint or by description. Of course the best method of ordering is blueprint but some people can''t afford the paper or the ink.¡± -merchant apprentice ¡°Thank you sir for the detailed explanation and excuse me but do you know where I could learn about alchemy?¡± -Haze ¡°There is an academy in Ark south from here although they have fairly strict policies for alchemy students.¡± ¡°perfect I will head there right after I get some supplies also do you happen to know where I might find some work?¡± ¡°Well there''s an announcement board in the centre of town you could check out. Otherwise there''s the merchant guild and the adventurers guild near the north gate. My name is Mike by the way. Mention my name if you''re going to the merchant guild and they will surely pay you well if you can land a job.¡± -Mike ¡°Thanks Mike I will remember you and help you if I am in town!¡± Haze replied while exiting the Frolicking frog. ¡ Deep into the territory of the Dwadra a beast awoke from his slumber. He stretches his giant wings and thinks ''It has been far too long since I last visited the humans. I wonder how they''re doing, the selfish creeps.'' He then proceeds to leave his nest high up in the mountains above a small village in Dwadra and fly towards the town of Vale. ¡ Well I am going to end it here and thanks for reading and if you enjoyed or if you hated it please voice your opinions in the reviews or in the comments and I am going to be getting some action in the next chapter and hopefully this chapter has not been boring you to suicide. Poll! if you are going to read this fiction please vote. i am wondering if you guys want a super omega op main character or a more basic elite character that can still improve. Chapter 2:The broken arm of a rash companion. As Haze was making his way to the adventurers guild he noticed he was being watched. The intense stare he was receiving came from an alley not far from the street he was now on. He moved on acting as if he could not tell he was being watched and proceeded to go around a corner and waited for the obvious stalker to follow him. As he expected the stalker went around the corner and banged into him. The stalker looked surprised before resuming his or her walk and tried to act like he or she wasn''t just following Haze. Haze grabbed the stalker by the hood and pulled it off revealing a thin girl. The girl was obviously malnourished and had sunken cheeks. She was around 140centimeters tall and looked to weigh around 28 kilograms. The girls hair was brown and dirty as she had probably not taken a bath in her entire life. Her face was in even worse condition with bruises and a couple of scars all over her face. ¡°What has happened for you to make me follow me with that kind of glare?¡± Haze asked the nervous little girl. ¡°M¡ me and my sister are having trouble with food and money and I decided to try and get money a different way than to beg...¡± The little girl said while sobbing into her hands. ¡°And so you decided it would be a good idea to try and steal some?¡± Haze asked in a friendly way. ¡°Yes sir...¡± ¡°''Tell you what. If you carry my coat for me until I get to the adventurers guild I will give you the gold I make from an assignment.¡± ¡°Really? Just for that?¡± The little girl asked Haze, surprised by the easy job offer she was just given. ¡°Yes honest gold for a job well done¡± Haze said and winked as he handed her the coat. ¡°What is your name little girl? My name is Haze.¡± ¡°Nora¡ my name is Nora.¡± ¡°Well let us get going to the adventurers guild.¡± ¡ And so Nora and Haze went down the main street towards the adventurers guild. Nora has her hood and cloak on so her face was hidden and she was carrying Haze''s coat. As they where getting closer they could see a 2 stories tall and 20 meters wide. The building had a sign outside that read: Adventurers guild. They entered the well maintained building which was packed full with human and elf adventurers. There was a notice board with missions for groups and for solo adventurers on the left where there where no tables. There where small meeting tables where groups of adventurers gather to discuss payments or what provisions to buy before setting off. There are guards in every corner which are there if fights break out over money or other things. Haze followed by Nora as they entered and headed towards the mission board. A couple of the adventurers laid eyes on them and stared them down while others turned away and continued minding their own business. One of the adventurers who was staring at them rose up from the table followed by his comrades. ¡°Hey What are you doing looking at missions while bringing in a little kid?¡± The adventurer asked Haze. ¡°isn''t it pretty obvious I am going to accept one?¡± Haze said as he looked at the burly man tanned man. One of the lackeys of the man didn''t like Haze''s disrespectful tone towards his comrade and lashed out at Haze trying to get a punch in on him. Haze raised his hand and when the man hit it his arm broke and all that was left of his hand was a bloody pulp. At this point the everyone in the building was focused on Haze and the adventurers group. Loud metal boots broke the silence as the guards rushed over and a man in his early 30''s rushed up to the injured adventurer. He used healing magic on the arm and it slowly healed back to its normal state. Haze thought ''Healing magic has come a long way since my time.'' As he noticed the man was not screaming in pain while being healed and there where no scars. This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it A guard approached Haze with caution and asked for Haze to come with them so they may interrogate him. They took him up to the second floor leaving a confused and scared Nora to the guards whilst he attends to the matters. They put him in a room and said for him to wait until the director of security would come. After a while a well dressed handsome man entered the room. ¡°Excuse me but I need to ask you for your side of the story mister¡?¡± ¡°The name''s Haze director.¡± ¡°I see you are very polite and calm considering the situation you caused. What happened down there?¡± ¡°That rash man tried to attack me and damaged himself in the process after I spoke with disrespect against his companion.¡± ¡°Well Haze luckily for you the witnesses say the same. And so we have decided to let you go after you pay a little sum for the damages caused to the man and the fact that healing magic was needed. ¡°could I perhaps pay by doing missions for the guild?¡± ¡°I don''t see why not, although if you die while on a mission your little friend will pay the price.¡± ¡°That seems fairly logical.¡± ¡°Well then. Haze I am glad to have you working for us instead of against us.¡± ¡°You can choose what missions to do but the total gain of the missions needs to be 60 gold before the whole debt is paid.¡± The director finished the conversation with that and stood up and opened the door motioning Haze to leave. As soon as Haze left the room he was led to the room where Nora was waiting. When Nora saw Haze both fear and awe was present in her eyes but mostly awe. She slowly stood up and walked over to Haze and they then continued down to the lobby and looked through the missions although now in peace. The missions listed varied from things from children stories such as killing a rampaging beast or gathering a rare ingredient from a cave guarded my mysterious magic, to going out killing some dumb trolls outside of town. Haze naturally picked a mission that would pay the debt off and at the same time make some money for the girls needs. It was a mission to clear a den of Razoreels. Razoreels are nasty bastards which grow up to 2 meters in length and have spikes all over their body. When they grow old they learn to shock people with their spikes to paralyse prey. Haze would gain 90 gold for clearing it, 60 would go to the guild and the rest would go to Nora as payment for carrying his coat. As he had picked which mission to do he told Nora to wait for him in the guild building. She looked a bit uneasy about it but knew it would be too dangerous for her to follow him to the den. And so Haze went out in town and passed the gate house into the forest on his way to the Razoreels den. ¡ And that is the end of this chapter and I know many of you wonder if I have given up on the story but as I have said I will continue this but I have been very lazy the past month or so. Sorry and I hope you know I do this to improve and to write a story that I as well as some other people might enjoy. Chapter 3: a friend shrouded in darkness. Haze headed north at lightning fast speed since he wanted to hurry and get back to Nora. As he neared the den of the Razoreels he noticed a dark shadow oozing black deathly miasma up in the sky. The creature emitting the dark miasma was a Deathvold a flying beast with wings the size of skyscrapers. At this point Haze is around a 5 days walk from Vale. As the giant beast descended from the sky to examine the lone demon it let out a laugh. ¡°Haze! How good to see you again old friend!¡± The giant beast said as her words echoed through the now deathly quiet plain that used to be a forest. ¡°Ah Deasi how wonderful to see you again.¡± Haze said as he went closer to the giant Deathvold. ¡°Last time I saw you was when you left to find a purpose other than fighting. Where have you been all of these years?¡± ¡°Stuck in a tomb gathering dust. A powerful sealing Faeling trapped me in it.¡± Haze said with annoyance clear in his speech. ¡°Ha ha ha I never thought you would be sealed in a tomb by a sealing Faeling. The Faeling with the lowest life span.¡± ¡°If only I had a sealing resistant gem on me at the time then I wouldn''t have been sealed.¡± (I''ll go into more detail about the gems later on.) ¡°How did you escape the tomb and when did you escape?¡± asked while leaning her head slightly to the left. ¡°A passing adventurer lifted the seal from the outside, seems like she had some sort of object that could negate the seals power.¡± ¡°Oh lucky you.¡± She said with faint smile. ¡°Would you like to accompany me once again old friend?¡± ¡°Who are you calling old? And no, I will be off on my own. I have got some litter to take care of, not like they have got much to be afraid of, but still I can''t let them kill off everything near my nest.¡± ¡°Oh wow I never would have guessed you had become a mother. Well I will hope to see you later then.¡± The giant beast soared off into the distance and Haze continued on until he found the large den of Razoreels. He covered himself in molten rock using a spell called Ashen death. This made him sweat a bit but was not even close to the hell flames he had once been tortured with. The ground melted away as he neared the now active den. As the Razoreels now poured out of the den they started to burn as the intense heat was too much for them. They were not boiling as the Razoreels held no liquids inside their bodies to prevent them from shocking themselves. Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions. After Haze was sure he had burned them all he once again ran at top speeds back to Vale. Once back in Vale he sought out the guild and quickly went to check up on Nora. She was sitting quietly and eating some dry bread in a room. The room was meant for discussion amongst a person who requests aid from the guild and the representatives of the guild. Nora beamed as she saw Haze and quickly and a bit clumsily walked up to him and hugged him. They went to the counter and Haze turned in the mission. He had of course collected a piece of the burnt Razoreels. After Haze turned the parts in the guild analysed them using an amulet enchanted with an appraisal enchantment. There are different appraisal enchantments because if you made an enchantment too powerful it would break the item and so they have to limit them to specific genres. The amulet used just now was beast appraisal enchanted. And as promised Nora got 30 gold and the guild got the rest. Haze grabbed another mission and then left the building with Nora to get her sister. ¡ Tada! I am back with another chapter :D. You didn''t think I was going to be gone forever did you? Anyway sorry for the awful speed of updating I am currently having some issues real life. But on the bright side summer break is going to be full of updates if I can get to it. Also I do believe I can put up 2 more chapters this weekend if I don''t play too much. Otherwise I will put it out after the weekend. Also sorry for the lack of action in this fiction I am not great at writing action but there will be some exciting stuff the next 2 chapters I hope. Sorry No chapter this weekend i am too slow at writing and i am shit at dialouge. so sorry D: quitting writing because i dont think its enjoyable anymore. it stresses me and it feels like work now so i am quitting simple as that. hating or raging because you liked my fictions isn''t going to help as it would only make it more clear that i should quit.
