《The Traveler: Final Frontier》 Prologue; Part 1 Prologue; Part 1- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20 years ago a new frontier for both the gaming industry and humanity as a whole opened in the form of virtual reality. The miraculous new technology allowed for nearly full immersion into a virtual world. Parliament, fearing the effect on the empire if Virtual Reality became public; only allowed the technology to be used by the military for training. As time passes and Parliament grew even more corrupt; certain companies were kind enough to donate large "re-election funds¡± to the prime minister in exchange for allowing for the technology to become known by more than just the few. The first Virtual Reality game, Royal Road, was a resounding success with the general population, with the user base inflating to over 50 million within two years of the games release. However, after finding the plans of the creator of the game, restrictions were placed on the distributors of these virtual reality games in that they were now no longer allowed to offer rewards that could be redeemed in the real world. With the main draw of games gone the industry slowly declined from its peak until 12 years later and The New Frontier was released. After all those years of looking up at the stars and wondering what was beyond our solar system, The New Frontier proved to be a haven for those who dreamt of journeying among the stars. Those who played often had aspirations of one day joining a mission to venture into space in real life. The game employed a system that was similar to Ki from literature in the Mongolian Empire; from the country formally known as China, in that you absorbed energy for the world around you in locations called nodes or by killing strong beasts and eating their core to make your own character stronger. The limits to this however was that you could not improve beyond the natural limits of your race, after which you had to use this energy to empower your equipment. Knives and swords and other such antiquated weapons were still I use inside the game (from now on I will be referring to The New Frontier as TNF to make it easier to type) as new metallic compounds had allowed for blades that could cut through armour like butter. Guns however, were the weapon of choice for many players as they provided a farther range and could be attached to your EBP, your Electronic Body Protector which was armour that protected and enhanced your own abilities. When the game was released, the governments were worried, because skills that you learnt in game could often be applied in real life, of course, being able to maintain a space ship would never be to useful out in the real world, but certain skills, such as combat or hacking were usable outside the game. However due to the corrupt nature of Parliament, these concerns were mercilessly crushed and the game continued uninterrupted. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A cold, grey, sterile environment greeted Alex as he logged on to The Finale Frontier. "Welcome; Master", a refined voice said as Alex materialised on the command deck of his Titan Class Destroyer. "Hello Jared", Alex smoothly said as he strode to the one seat in sparse room. Jarvis was the AI or Artificial Intelligence that governed the systems of Alex¡¯s ship, whilst AI who could do this were normally extremely expensive, Jared had been developed by Alex over a period of five years, allowing the AI to expand beyond its constraints as it was fed information from all over the know galaxy. If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation."What''s up Ajax", said a cheery voice which seemed to be projected from everywhere and nowhere all at once. "It''s good to be back Hee". Hee, was a friend from real life that Alex had met several years before in university and had stayed in touch with. Together they had created The Fey, a guild that housed over 5000 members and many more NPCs. Though the guild had only been created 5 years before; it had quickly risen to prominence after successfully defeating a much larger fleet with minimal losses and brilliant tactics. After the battle, the guild was flooded with requests to join and from then the guild had only grown. Now, with the guilds territory encompassing a galaxy and owning several Titan and Deity class star ships, each costing several million credits, the game seemingly held only one last challenge for the duo. Hee, was a dragonoid, a hidden race that had recently been unlocked due to their actions and which had several separate racial bonuses, such as scales that could withstand bullets, well, normal ones anyway and a tail that you be purposed into nearly any task that required extremely dextrous handling. Ajax was a Fey, a race that had previously been only a legend and indeed Ajax was the only player in the game who was able to gain this race, the Fey boasted extremely long lives and the ability to manipulate objects around them using Psi, a mystical force that supposedly dwelled within all living creatures and which could be absorbed from defeated opponents and beasts to make your character stronger. "How far out are we?". As he said this, Hee slowly materialised into Ajax''s command floor, smirking at his friends compulsion to keep everything clean and in its proper place as he looked around and saw not one piece of equipment not in its proper position. "We should be only a thousand or two kilometres away". "So, you ready to beat the game?" Said Hee, practically jumping with excitement at the battle to come. ¡°I¡¯m always ready to beat Fallen¡¯s ass¡±, smiled Ajax, revealing a bloodthirsty grin. "If I may interrupt Sir, our fleet is approaching the Fallen home world", cut in Jarvis¡¯s flat voice. As they flew closer to their destination , noises could be heard outside the ship that was carrying the two guild leaders as they journeyed towards the home world of their sworn enemies: the Fallen guild.

Prolouge; Part 2 Prologue; Part 2- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The planet loomed in front of The Gladius as it sped to its destination, flanked by several hundred other smaller Frigates and Hee¡¯s own ship, The Hunter. The Hunter, was the largest ship in sight, one of only 10 deity class ships in commission. The only reason the pair could afford to have her built and maintained was by using the majority of the vast wealth gathered from 5 years of mining and conquering across the known galaxy. The Fallen empire would be just another jewel in the crowns of the two; although they¡¯re empire was not the largest, it was by far the most economically and militarily developed; allowing access for the two to some of the finest weapons and ESP¡¯s available. ¡°Ready for launch, Sir¡±, a marine sergeants voice echoed across the command as the fleet neared the waiting armada that had been cobbled together in a last ditch effort to stave off The Empires expansion. ¡°Engage¡±, Ajax¡¯s commanding voice was heard and the marine nodded as he hit the button that would launch him and his squad of 10 across space and into the path of the waiting Destroyers. ¡°Give them some cover fire¡±, said Ajax, no trace of warmth seen on his face, only concentration and the determination to see this through to the end. In the background, plasma fire could be heard as the ships main guns engaged the enemy, distracting them from the small boarding craft that would be speeding towards its destination. Many years before Ajax and his marines had proved that sometimes a small, well-armed infiltration group was worth ten ships in a battle. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Marine Sergeant¡¯s POV ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ¡°You heard the commander, it¡¯s time to go¡±. A clunk was heard as the locking mechanism disengaged his small craft from the Titan it had been attached too. The sergeant had infiltrated many ships over the years but he knew the importance that his Imperial Masters had placed on his team capturing the enemy command vessel. They were in for a rough ride. ¡°Men; check your gear, and comms silence from now on, we don¡¯t want those Fallen bastards picking up on an errant signal before we crash their party, do we now¡±, said the sergeant with a grim smile¡±. His only answer was the blinking lights that signalled their readiness to take the fight to the enemy. At terminal velocity; the boarding craft approached the enemy commander¡¯s vessel fast, with only minor course corrections having to be made. The marines pulled on their helmets as the vessel loomed on the radar. The boarding craft shuddered and shrieked as it crashed into a landing port of the ship, venting any men inside out into space. ¡°GO, GO, GO¡±, the sergeant cried, bringing his rifle up to his shoulder as one of the privates threw a concussion grenade through the door to the hanger. Screams of confusion could be heard as the guards and maintenance crew who were stationed at the landing dock were taken by surprise by the sudden and explosive appearance of the marines. *Crack*, a surprised guards neck was broken as a marine used his rifle as a club, instantly snapping his neck like a twig. He limply tried to crawl to safety for a few moments more before the marine put him out of his misery with a bolt to the head. ¡°Move Up!¡±. The marines moved to the bulkhead door encircling it as the front man lay thermite in a ring around the lock holding the door shut. A *Boom* was heard as the thermite finished and the sergeant kicked the door off its hinges into the corridor behind, crushing the guards that had been lying in wait. ¡°Clear!¡±. ¡°Well then boys, let¡¯s go meet the commander, wouldn¡¯t want him to feel we forgot about him now do we¡±, said the sergeant, a satisfied smirk on his face, checking his comms and linking it to the command channel. ¡°Sir, we¡¯ve breached the ship¡±. A moment went by until the comms crackled and he was answered, ¡°Excellent, I¡¯ll be right there¡±. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ajax¡¯s POV ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ¡°Sir, we¡¯ve breached the ship¡±, a voice cracked as I commanded the fleet from The Gladius. ¡°Excellent, I¡¯ll be right there¡±, I clicked off the radio and allowed myself a brief moment of boyish excitement before I rained it in and strode to my personal boarding craft, with my honour guard already waiting on board for me to arrive. If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.¡°Hold the fort Hee, I¡¯m going to take the fight to the enemy commander¡±. ¡°Alright, make sure to make sure he reaps every last seed he¡¯s sown over the years¡±, said Hee, knowing my feelings on the man. ¡°Ajax, out¡±. This¡¯ll be a great chance to test out my new rifle, I¡¯ve been waiting to find a suitable place to try it and if this ships as heavily guarded as they say, I¡¯ll have plenty of time to practice, can¡¯t let it show on my face how excited I am though. I remembered what my father had taught me when I was young, he had been a real army commander, he taught me that commanders must always seem calm, so their troops will mirror them, men will not follow a leader who runs around excitably like a little boy. Ajax¡¯s personal boarding craft softly hissed as it broke off from the main ship and sped towards the enemy command ship, which already had noticeable chunks missing from its frame, floating off into the nothingness that is space. ¡°Report, sergeant, how far are you from the command deck?¡±, I calmly said as I strode through the opening doors off my boarding craft in my dull grey armour, my rifle strapped to my back and my sword to my leg. ¡°Just outside the door Sir, he and his men have barricaded themselves inside the control room and we are facing heavy resistance¡±. ¡°That¡¯s alright, I¡¯m here now¡±, I confidently said as neared his position, noting the dead that I passed as I walked through the halls towards the man I had trusted and who had betrayed me. ¡°Make sure to take a photo for me¡±, I hear Hee say as I travel along the service corridor through which my marines breached so far past the ships defence station. ¡°Jared, make sure to record this¡±, I thought to the AI who resided in a chip in my brain, ¡°I want to relive this for as long as I can¡±. ¡°Yes Sir, I will record your triumph and play it back to you as many times as you want¡±, Jared¡¯s voice seemed almost human like, but that was just his programming responding to the situation, able to tell my excitement. ¡°All good Hee¡±. ¡°Good luck man, drinks on me tonight if everything goes well¡±, I smiled as I heard his response. Oh well time to test the new armour I guess, as I rounded the corner and found a full blown firefight going on, with no conclusion in sight. Jumping into the fray, I dodged and dived as I made my way towards the nearest shooter who was looking surprised that none of his shots had connected. Sorry, bud but Fey don¡¯t get hit, I thought as I took his head off his shoulders with my nanofiber sword that could cut through solid titanium. His face still looked surprised even as it hit the floor. I took the position that he had previously occupied and took a moment to unsling my rifle and snipe at the heads of a few unfortunates who happened to be looking round the corner at that moment, ripping off my helmet and throwing it to the ground. Fuck Yes! This is why I play this game, the marines ran through the now open door to the control room with me and my honour guard following closely, to find the man I had come to see all ready and waiting for me, casually sitting on the captain¡¯s seat and sipping gin out of a crystal glass. Fuck that, there¡¯s no way I¡¯m letting him sit there and look all cool as he monologues about his plan, I walked across and grabbed the smug bastard out of his chair, hit him in the nose, then threw him on the floor, there, that¡¯s better a better look on him. ¡°Well, well, if it isn¡¯t Ajax, I can¡¯t imagine you¡¯ve only come to invite me to tea?¡±, he said, smoothly picking himself up and still somehow managing to look suave even with a blood covered suit and a broken nose. ¡°Well I just had to see you again¡±, I said sarcastically,¡± but enough talking¡±, I said as I shoved my Nanofiber sword through his heart. ¡°Well¡±, he whispered in my ear as I shoved the sword further into his chest, ¡°what a fitting ending, just like a fairy tale¡±, as he said It I felt a small prick on my arm and suddenly I started losing control of my body. I slowly collapse as I piss my pants, losing control of my bladder, I guess that didn¡¯t look very cool. NO, I won¡¯t die like this, I won¡¯t give him the satisfaction. I can hear people rushing around, trying to keep me awake as I slowly slip into darkness¡.

Chapter 1: Awakening Chapter 1: Awakening ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Authors Note: So just want to warn the readers at this point, don¡¯t get too attached to any of my characters. I¡¯m trying to keep the general theme of the story as realistic as I can in spite of the fantasy theme and unfortunately that may mean he isn¡¯t always going to be able to be the hero you may want him to be. I also plan to switch between third and first person perspectives but say if you find it too confusing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ajax¡¯s POV: I woke up, groggy and looked around, confused at where I was. Normally, when you died in game, all that happened was that you were ejected from the virtual world for a two real life days¡¯ period. So why was I in a forest? Getting up, I noticed that I still had my weapons and equipment, my Nanofiber sword clutched by my stiff fingers. ¡°Jared, where am I?¡±, I thought, wondering idly if my AI would have any better of an idea of just where the hell we had ended up. This didn¡¯t look like any planet I had ever found on The New Frontier; the colours were too bright, with the graphics just a little too vivid. I wonder if there was an update, it wouldn¡¯t be the first time that the developers had sprung an update without telling anyone, but he would be surprised if they had done it again, the last time it had been done a large group of affected players had started a class action lawsuit against the company and had almost won. ¡°Well, Sir I do believe that we are no longer on the enemy commander¡¯s ship¡±, I sigh, this is what I get for making the AI sarcastic. Well thank you for that extremely helpful input Jared and make sure to continue to impart your incredibly helpful word of wisdom when you can. ¡°Thank you Sir, I plan to¡±, shaking my head I decide to start walking towards the rive I can see lazily flowing at the edge of the clearing that I¡¯m in. I can figure out what¡¯s happened with the battle later, with the way the battle was going Hee definitely would have won it. For now, there was a whole world to explore. Walking through the dense forest I noticed how quiet the forest had become, the birds had stopped singing and the rustling I had been hearing from the small animals in the brush had stopped. Suddenly a blur of fur and claws jumped out from above me, aiming to rip out my throat with its oversized fangs. Fuck! Jumping back, the cat only grazed my chest piece, barely scratching it, but unfortunately I hadn¡¯t thought to put my helmet back on, what with dying and all. Frantically trying to keep its grasping claws away from my squishy parts with one hand, I fumbled for my sword with the other, desperately feeling for my scabbard. There! Got it, I drew the sword and straightened, holding it like an expert, right until the cat knocked it right out of my hands, well, maybe not. You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.Grappling with the beast we tumbled onto the ground, locked in a wrestling match, me trying desperately to find a stone large enough to cave in its skull. Found it, smashing its head with the stone again and again until it finally stopped moving. I slowly got up and wandered to a nearby tree where I promptly threw up, I had hunted before, but that¡ that had been just too real. I checked for the logout button, my wife would be able to calm me down, she always had. It wasn¡¯t there. Why isn¡¯t it there? All right, calm down Alex, just call a GM and they¡¯ll sort out the problem. ¡°Call GM, GM, help¡±, starting to really get worried now when none of the usual commands were working, I shuffled over to a nearby rock to wait and see if a GM would appear. Hours later, no one had come for me and it was starting to get dark, I heard a growling coming from a nearby bush and a... monstrosity of a dog appeared. Massive and dark, covered with rippling muscle, its eyes were fixed on the cat I had killed earlier it the day. ¡°Here boy, don¡¯t hurt me, you can have the cat, I didn¡¯t want it anyway¡±, I said, nervously backing away. It growled at me and I took it as a sign to run. Crashing through the bushes in the direction I had seen the river go earlier, praying that the monster wasn¡¯t following. It wasn¡¯t, must¡¯ve been happy with what it had without a scrawny Fey, no meat on me anyway.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry about the shorter chapter today, keyboard decided to stop working, so had to cut to a halfway decent end point. Chapter 2: Smells like Barbeque Chapter 2: Smells like Barbeque ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Authors Note: So I fixed the text on the chapter before this to white so it¡¯ll show up on the black background, I had mine as white so I couldn¡¯t tell. Someone also noticed that I changed his level and that is because, though he had a great game character, in reality he was a 32-year-old man, he¡¯s not going to just walk into a new world and be OP, instinctively using a weapon, so I lowered the level to give him a chance to grow. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trying to keep moving, I quickly find that my injuries are more serious than I had thought. Ripping my shirt to pieces I use the strips I tear off to stem the bleeding. Futile I suppose, because with this many wounds, infection is almost certain to set in. Crap, hope they have alcohol on this world, might be able to clean my wounds. I stumble on, tripping over roots and getting hit by branches, all the while hoping to God that nothing else would be attracted by the blood that¡¯s still dripping out of my wound. Stumbling to a stop I realise this isn¡¯t going to work, I¡¯ll die before I find people, anyway with how I look, would they even be willing to help me? People back where I live are a bunch of racist bastards so I don¡¯t see why they wouldn¡¯t be here. And, it¡¯s getting dark. You know when you have one of those really bad ideas, the ones that you know are going to be bad before you even have the chance to do them. Well, guess who just had one. Looking back at my obviously, plentiful experience at survival, I remember that if you cauterise your wound, it¡¯s supposed to seal it and heal it over time. Well, it¡¯s worth a shot, better than bleeding to death, right? I try to reassure myself, waiting for my inner Bear Grylls to appear, then remembering he died from a snake bite, maybe not emulate him then, let¡¯s get that fire going. Oh well, if this is all just an elaborate prank by the developers, this will all just go away, please let this be a joke, they would never let someone seriously injure themselves, would they? (AN: That¡¯s wrong, it will seal an open wound but actually makes the risk of infection worse, but what does this guy know right?) ¡°This seems like a bad idea Sir, Jared advised me, why do I even have him, he¡¯s bloody useless. ¡°Shut up¡±, I said, why do bad things happen to me? Doesn¡¯t take long for me to collect enough leaves and twigs to get a little fire going with my lighter. God, why did I not bring my medical kit today, why a goddamn lighter. Of course I know the answer to that, too lazy to bring my own, used to have subordinates who would bring one for me. Filling my head with inane chatter, I place my swords blade onto the fire, psyching myself up to do this. It¡¯s just glowing a little, doesn¡¯t matter that I can feel the heat from here, it¡¯s just like being at the doctors, it¡¯ll be over in a second¡. For, each of my wounds, that¡¯s a lot of cuts. Oh god why¡¯d I bring that up, I hate the doctors. Slowly unwrapping my makeshift bandages, I decide it doesn¡¯t matter anyway, at least with this there¡¯s a slim chance of me living. Grabbing the handle of my sword, I wince, it¡¯s hot, lucky the bloody swords short, imagine me not being able to use it. I slowly bring its white, glowing tip towards the largest wound on my leg. AHHHH FUCCCKKKKKK. Ah fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, why the fuck did I ever think this would be a good idea, just keep going Alex, that¡¯s the big ones done, only a little fucking barbeque left to be cooked. Ah that¡¯s a nice though, juicy steak, sausages, I can almost smell it, the pains gone even though I¡¯m still closing cuts, wait. Why can I smell barbeque? Never mind I¡¯m going to my happy place, happy place, happy place, why isn¡¯t it coming, ah, there it is as everything slowly turns dark. If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.When I woke up the first thing I did is look at what I¡¯d done. Well, turns out what I¡¯d done is left a glowing white hot sword on top of my leg leaving a long, sword shaped burn wound that ached like hell. Whoever said that scars look cool is an idiot because that was not going to be looking good when its healed. Fumbling in my belt, I found my canteen, and poured the water inside over my biggest burn, unsurprisingly, the one place I hadn¡¯t meant to burn, my leg. Hadn¡¯t done a bad job now I looked at it, even though I still felt the burn. Hah, feel the Bern, what a great president of BP he made, right up until the oil spill. Dragging myself to my feet, I noticed another thing, something I was rather surprised I missed to be honest, I was missing a toe, yes a mother fucking toe. Sometimes mother nature doesn¡¯t just claw you with a gigantic cat, it shits on you too. Well this is as good a time as any, time to break out the champagne, to a job badly done, I toast myself and my stupidly, hoping id get drunk enough that I wouldn¡¯t notice when I took some wild beasts fancy and it made me dinner. At least maybe then I¡¯d be back with my wife. I drunkenly fall with rain that just so happened to look like tears falling down my face.

Chapter 3: Farm Life Chapter 3: Farm Life ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AN: So, wasn¡¯t too sure about what I wrote last chapter, what do you guys think and if you didn¡¯t like it, what should I change? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Waking up, I felt myself itchy all over. I sat up, lying on a bed of hay. Where had this come from? Looking up I could see that I was in a shoddy, shack like structure and my burn wounds had been wrapped with dirty looking bandages. ¡°Hello?!¡±, I called, Jared what happened? ¡°It seems sir that you have been rescued, I am sorry sir, but our.. displacement seems to have lowered the control I have over my systems, I am not sure what has happened, it will take time for me to continue aiding you at with peak efficiency¡±. That is fine, I will say If need assistance. Listening, I could hear the sound of animals moving and braying in the distance so I suppose I can assume that I¡¯m on a farm? Where am I? Sitting up painfully, wincing as I did; I noticed I had new clothes on, made of a rough and harsh material, roughly stitched, didn¡¯t seem like my rescuers would be living like royalty. Obviously hearing my crashing about, a large, bear like man came in, ¡°Owh aer ouy yob¡±, speaking in a harsh, foreign sounding language. I realised that I was screwed if I wasn¡¯t able to understand it, stuck relying on others to take care of me, I would have to learn. ¡°Sorry, but, I don¡¯t speak your language¡±, I spoke, trying to use hand gestures to convey my meaning, he seemed to understand. ¡°Bronf¡±, he said, slapping his chest, I guess that was his name, suited him, short and simple. ¡°Ajax¡±, as I said that, a women came in, diminutive in size and seeming even smaller next to the massive bear like Bronf, she looked timid. I realised why they hadn¡¯t cared that I obviously wasn¡¯t human, because they weren¡¯t human either. It was less noticeable on Bronf, his ears were shaped strangely and his hands really were reminiscent of a bear¡¯s paws, but she had a long, bushy tail, which was a dull orange colour that had streaks of grey streaking through it. The tail constantly moving, I guess that would explain why they don¡¯t care about my, unusual features. I mean, at character creation I mainly kept my character looking the same as I do in real life, relatively tall at 5 ft. 11¡±, but with a much lither body than I had in real life to suit the average male of my species, I had also tweaked my features enough so it was fairly obvious that I wasn¡¯t human, my eyes had a reptilian look to them, slitted, with a double eyelid, my ears were pointed, and my skin had faint cracks that would show when I was angry that would pulse with a glowing red light. Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author''s consent. Report any sightings. She moved round my body, changing my bandages, looking at them now, I felt foolish for trying to clean my wounds, they were an angry red colour and the skin on and around where I had put the sword had was puckered. Wait, my sword?!, grabbing her arm, she looked shocked that I had touched her, ¡°Sword¡±, I tried to pantomime what I wanted, but she shook her head. I slumped I defeat, it wasn¡¯t like I¡¯d be able to get it anyway, I could barely move. These people had me at their mercy, my Psi was barely strong enough to move small, I wouldn¡¯t be able to do anything with that. At least my bag wouldn¡¯t open, it only opens to the person it is bound to. It uses a system that recognises your unique Psi wavelength, much safer than similar technology¡¯s, such as fingerprint scans, which can be faked. The woman comes closer, holding a rag in her hand, which she uses to cover my mouth and nose, I stare accusingly at her and she smiles back as I drift into a deep sleep. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After I wake, I find I can once again move around, albeit slowly and without aggravating any of my wounds, sliding off the bed I decide to take a look round the place that has taken me in. Looking outside, I don¡¯t see the rural village I might have expected, it was dirty and smelled, and it seemed out of the way, from the lack of buildings around. I see Bronf working in a field, pulling up what look to be purple weeds, in a field of green. He waves and beckons me. Takes a while to walk across, but I manage and he gestures to what he is doing. Guess it¡¯s time to earn my keep. He pulls up one of the green plants and says, ¡°Flord¡±, I take it to be the name I the plant he is holding. Sighing I copy him, from the sounds of it the language he speaks isn¡¯t rooted in Latin, so if I want to converse, there¡¯s a long road ahead.
