《Power Surge》


 Prologue: Before The Beginning

    ¡°Time¡¯s up class, turn in your exams and have a good day¡± Mr.Regal had called out from his navy blue swivel chair with his shoes on the table . The screeching of the desks could be heard as students had gotten up to turn in their exams, I got up from my corner seat as well and grabbed my binder. Without giving my teacher a look I dropped the exam booklet in the tray and walked out of the room and like the rest of the kids in class I headed to the bus stop.


    As usual the whole bus was loud and rowdy, they always would try to start something and throw a paper ball up front or back of the bus. But this time I got hit on the back of the head with a paper ball, which lead me to throw it back and a paper ball war had started. I was sitting down on a two seater by myself cause I¡¯m a loner (Sike) but the reason why was because there were only 20 people on this bus and the bus could hold 55. I turn my phone and put on my wireless headset, I pick my favorite playlist and start it up. Music always had its ways to calm me down in any situation.


    All of a sudden the bus came to a harsh stop and my face smash into the sit in front of me and I cried out in pain. Giving a second to collect myself I stand up to see the bus front side destroyed even though we did not hit anything. I look around to see people running away screaming and crying, it was chaos.


    ¡°Is everybody okay?!¡± A shout could be heard from the back, I look behind to see Brad with hands up looking around to see if anybody was hurt. I unconsciously sneer when I saw him being the self righteous bastard he was. It seem like nobody was hurt till I heard a scream from the front.


    ¡°THE BUS DRIVER IS DEAD!¡± A girl pointed to the driver¡¯s seat and dripping down from the seat was crimson blood, I rush up see the bus driver. There was a huge gash on her forehead and blooding was just gushing and pouring out of her. You could see her skull that was how deep it was. I could feel vomit about to come out and I close my mouth and put a hand over it. Some of the brave kids came up to see what had happened and most kids had the same reactions and I think one the girls had actually threw up. The most kids have ever seen blood was probably a cut or a scrape.


    Then a huge tremor could be felt and the everybody was struggling to grab something to keep balance. Then tremor had lasted a few seconds before stopping. I felt it was enough and pushed through the crowd of panicking teenagers and pulled the the bus doors open.I had to figure what the hell had happened. But the moment you stepped out it felt like a tornado was going to pull you away. Cars, trees, and even cats were pick up and started flying about the intersection.


    The sound of clashes could be heard nearby and I look around for a bit to find a person fighting a lizard man? The man wore grey coat with black sport clothes underneath it, I couldn¡¯t figure out the facial features of the man but his hair was weirdly a dark purple. The lizard was gigantic maybe 15 feet tall and green scales all over it¡¯s body, on it¡¯s head was 2 curved horn that pointed to the sky. The Lizard was in position where it was standing up a little hunchback and his hands forward I guess he was fighting him.


    ¡°It¡¯s Turbulence!¡± A man had pointed to man in the cape and hope washed over all of spectator¡¯s faces. Both the Lizard and ¡°Turbulence¡± were in an intense fight, Turbulence conjured up 2 giant grey hands that flew to the the Lizard with intense speed but the Lizard took em on standing still, it was not even fazed by the attack and roared a vicious roar that resounded throughout the city. A blur came from the Lizard¡¯s hand and BOOM!! Turbulence flew from out of the sky and crashed through many high rise buildings.

    All the people spectating the fight seemed like their faces drained of blood and many screams emerged. The giant Lizard looked straight at our group and slowly walked over to us. I tried to move but my body wasn¡¯t listening to me. It ¡®s gaze pierced my body, I felt a cold chill down my spine. Shit!Shit!SHIT! Well this were my last moments I have 3 regrets, First I didn¡¯t get superpowers which I wanted so much, Second I wanted to get a girlfriend (Don¡¯t Hate), and Lastly I wanted to tell my mom and my sister I love them very much so. And I was done,Goodbye


    I was ready to die.


    I waited and waited..? I opened an eye up to see what happen because technically I should be dead. The Lizard was right in front of me yet it eyes were opened wide in shock, it¡¯s pupils were dilated. A huge hand was next to me, it stood 1 foot away from my body. I look up to see there was a huge gaping hole in his chest with green blood pouring down on the asphalt like a waterfall. Blood Waterfall? I started touching all around my body, I¡­ I¡¯M ALIVE!!!


    I start jumping in joy with a cartoon villain evil laughter, ringing throughout the street. I fell to the ground and a few tears were let out, I was so relieved that I was alive. While I was kneeling on the floor emergency services had came and start helping the injured and directing people to help.


    I called my mom and ask her to pick me up. Within 5 minutes my mom speed through the street and parked right in front of me and rushed out of the car to give me hug,¡±Can¡¯t...Breathe...Mom¡± I called out while wheezing for breath


    ¡°Sorry Honey I was just so worried about you, are you okay?¡± She starts moving around to see if there are any injuries of the sort. My Mom was a bit of a helicopter mom it has begun since dad died¡­


    ¡°Mom I¡¯m fine, can we just go home now¡± I felt a bit embarrassed with my mom so pressed about my wellbeing. We had left the scene of the fight and had a quiet ride home.


    We stopped at my house, it was 2 story brick house with a large driveway and backyard.


    It wasn¡¯t that fancy because we were a middle class family but at least we had the good stuff inside. At first it was just my dad who was working as a Hero and my mom was a stay at home. We had got at a good price back then due to one of people my dad saved in a attack was in the realtor business and when my dad was looking for a house the person gave us a discount.


    After my dad died my mom went back to school to get both a bachelor and a masters degree in computer science while working at a job, she now makes 6 figures in a position in the government which do offer great benefits though. There are two bedrooms, two bathrooms, one living room, one dining room, and a kitchen.


    I sleep in the basement (Which I totally love) while my mom and Sarah (My sister) sleep upstairs in the 2 bedrooms. My sister was the special one in the family, she inherited my dad¡¯s power which was the manipulation of water and she is going to a Power school.


    Only one in hundred people have superhero powers and they are revered and frighten by powers. And people who have super powers were to have children, there children would have a 50% chance of getting it. And my sister hit the jackpot and got the powers. I head downstairs to the basement and turn on the lights. Down here was a 50¡¯¡¯inch Flat screen TV, a queen size bed, a high end gaming computer and a door leading to another room.


    I change from my school clothes and jumped right into bed.

 Chapter 1 : Acceptance

    "Beeep...Beeep!¡± I grudgingly get up from my bed and slam my hand on the alarm clock stop button,(annoying bastard)¡­


    I walk on the cold vinyl floor which was really cold for some reason (It was already summer time) and headed towards the bathroom. The bathroom door was closed and I tried to open it but it was locked, ¡°I¡¯m already here!¡± a melodious voice calls from within the bathroom.


    My sister always beat me to the bathroom even though she had water powers, couldn¡¯t see take a shower or brush her teeth with her powers. I turn and head to my mom¡¯s bathroom and close the door behind me, I went to grab my toothbrush¡­ shit


    I rush back to other bathroom, ¡°Sarah! Pass me my toothbrush, I need it!¡± A few seconds later the door slightly open and a tentacle of glow pristine water gives me my toothbrush and slams the door on me.


    Powers I tell you, I quickly brush my teeth, take a quick shower, and put some clothes on for school. My mom had cooked breakfast for both of us, it was some toast and eggs.


    ¡°So what happened yesterday?¡± My sister asked very nonchalantly, it was like she was obligated to talk to me. I had noticed over the years that she rarely ever talked to anyone in that tone but me, it was like she didn¡¯t like me but I mean I don¡¯t like her either so it¡¯s practically even on both sides..


    ¡°Uhh my bus driver died right in front of me, I almost died to a giant lizard and I think that¡¯s mostly it¡± I tried to play it off as nothing but out the side of my eye I peeked a look at her to find her not caring at all¡­ THIS APATHETIC BIT-


    ¡°You guys have to hurry up to school now, goodbye my loves¡± Our mom grabbed me and  my sister before we could run and gave us french kisses all over our faces.


    My bus stop was a couple houses down from my house, even though my sister went to the same school as me, she and some of the ¡°Popular¡± kids car pooled to school together. My mom asked once for her to give a ride to school but she politely said that there wasn¡¯t any space in the car ( It was SUV for Gaben¡¯s sake) and there¡¯s only 4 people in the damn car!


    ¡°Bye Alex!¡± she called out before she got in the car with a fake innocent smile, every time she pulls that off and everybody believes it but no not I, underneath that innocent smile is a terrible person.


    I head down to the street and stopped at the bus stop and pulled out my phone and scrolled through some videos on TheTube, someone actually recorded Lizard fight with the Turbulence  and currently has 40 millions views¡­ Well I guess someone just became an overnight hit.


    The bus drive only took about 10 minutes to get to school, which led me to have extra time to hangout with my nerd friends. We had usually hanged out in the computer lab and talked about video games or superpowers.


    I got off the bus and rushed to the computer lab so that I would be able to use the two computers that we are permitted to use. But what made it special was that these computers were top of the line, worth thousands of credits each. They could run any program or game possible to human creation, developed by the one the greatest companies that ever existed, worth over a trillion credits...CCCCRRRRYYYPPPPTTTTIIIICCCCC TTTTEEECCCHHHH.


    Cryptic Tech is one of the most powerful companies in the world, they dominate a half of all electronics on the market and plus their founder and current CEO are both powerful Supers. Their tech is top of the line and they¡¯re decades ahead in advancement of Technology and Science compared to first world powers.


    The clapping of my shoes smacking the recently cleaned vinyl floor resounded throughout the hallway, I turn a immediate right around the corner and looked down the hallway to see a door with a imprint Computer Lab Room 243 I ran as fast as I can for the final stretch and busted through the door to see already two of my friends with the gaming headsets on and playing games.

    I dropped to my knees with a melodramatic pose and call out dramatically ¡°I have failed you mother I wasn¡¯t fast enough¡± I made a motion of doing seppuku and laid on the floor for a few moments pretending I was dead


    ¡°Alex stop being so damn dramatic you should¡¯ve of just came faster¡± Noah blankly said as his eyebrows furrow from the difficulty of the game he playing.


    My two friends were here before as usual. Noah Jereb and Takashi Oda (We just call him Taka) have been my best friends since middle school of the 7 grade, we meet in geometry class 3 period and our passion for games and powers, we clicked and been best of friends since.


    I get up from the cold floor and came around to see the games they were playing. It was Kurgen: The Rise of The Fall, one of the most demanding games in the market but these monsters of computers ran them like a piece of cake. It was a MMO FPS, it was about you were in a post apocalyptic world and you had to survive by looting, killing, and anything to survive. Each server had huge amounts amount of people playing it. I was level 928 right now while these two hardcore of the hardcorest gamers were both level 957.


    ¡°Hey Alex you happy, today is the day when we pick our choices for college¡± He called out with face filled with the joy because a boss kill.


    ¡°I¡¯m not sure what to pick right now, maybe I¡¯ll go to Skyline University!¡± I called in a joking manner, Skyline University is a top rank university that mostly people with powers or the brightest of the brightest got to. My sister got a full scholarship there and she is not as smart as me (Intelligence wise)! And if you graduate huge companies will flock to have you like Cryptic Tech or be directly recruited into the Hero¡¯s League


    ¡°Alex you know you only have a 0.000000000000001 chance of getting into that Heavenly University¡± He paused his game and looked at me when he said that. It was true, even though we might be the brightest in this high school doesn¡¯t mean we are the smartest in the county or even the state.


    ¡°RRRRIIIINNNNGGGG!¡± The School day bell had rung and I said my goodbyes and ran to my first period.


    The day had passed by fairly quickly and in 7th period that¡¯s when our mail came to tell us whether we got accepted or not.


    Halfway through class a cart of specially divided mail was pushed through by one of the faculty. One after one we were given stacks of mail (We¡¯re encouraged to apply to as many colleges or universities)


    My stack came after a while and the faculty had rolled their mail cart to the next classroom.


    For the rest of the class we sifted through our mail.


    Rejected, Rejected, Rejected, Rejected.


    I need to make college so I can get a job and a good family. All my mail had been ripped open except from one, with no hope I open it up.

 Chapter 2: A new opportunity

    Warm tears dropped from eyes onto my paper, I¡¯ve just been accepted into Skyline University!


    I threw up a fist up in the air like Rocky on top of the stairs, many eyes jumped on me, most of their expressions were confusion and jealousy. I shrank up up like a rotten apple and went back into my own business.


    After a few moments the school bell rang and I got out with all of my papers and recycled it before I left for home.


    I headed to my locker and grabbed my book bag but I was stopped by my sister and her group of ¡°cool kids¡±, they looked like they came from every teen movie from the eighties. First there is Richard Kendrick , he is the muscle of the group. He is a middle linebacker for the high school football team about 6¡¯2, blonde hair, blue eyes, tanned skin, and fierce eyebrows which is a defining thing about him.


    Next there is Tiffany Albus who is the student council president and is also a powered person. She is extremely arrogant and overbearing since her dad is a board member of multimillion and billion dollars companies. She is about 5¡¯7, long black hair, with blue eyes, high cheekbones, plush lips, and overall very beautiful. She seems to stick to my sister like glue and my sister treats her better than me!


    Lastly there is Sandra Atkins , she is literally the nicest person in that group, which is really surprising. She is attached to my sister because one time in middle school my sister saved from a group of bullies (Another example of how my sister is a planning trickster/Devil spawn). She was actually very average looking, same height as Tiffany, Black hair, hazel eyes, and a very white teeth which leads to a very nice smile.


    Well back to the present, ¡°What do you want?¡± I gave a dead eye look to my sister, this always leads to her to try and mess with me to embarrass me or make her friends laugh.


    ¡°So did you even get accepted to a college or did you rejected for every single one!¡± Richard made a super corny joke attempt to ¡°bully¡± me.


    ¡°I did get into college with full scholarship¡± I left only one possibility for him to answer to get into my trap and held a smirk back from my poker face. I can¡¯t wait for them to be totally surprised and I leave really cool without looking back.


    ¡°Oh and what college was that Alex?¡± Sarah interrupted Richard and called out with an amused look on her face.


    ¡°Skyline¡­¡± I look to my right to find 4 mouths open in shock and astonishment staring at me like they had seen a ghost. I grabbed my book bag and rush to the bus to get to my favorite seat.


    We were given a new bus driver this time, it was an old strict man in glasses who for the first time stopped the record of paper wars. The bus ride was actually peaceful¡­


    Later that day I had told my mom about my scholarship to Skyline University who had freaked out and started crying tears of joy. My sister was just really quiet the whole time which was a first. I jump on my bed after a long day and just thought to myself about my future college, and just life overall.


    The last day of school is today and it¡¯s also graduation. Our school hosted it in our gym which was really big and yet was full to the brim with people. We were in our graduation gowns, sitting down in chairs on stage with a huge crowd of parents and family watching us,


    Our principal gave a long speech on our younger years in high school and made some funny jokes based on nostalgia. They called up our names one by one till it got to me ¡°Alex James!¡± I got to hear some clapping in the audience and hear a scream in the back ¡°That¡¯s My baby!!¡±, I kept my head down to avoid my embarrassment of my face. I shook hands with a couple of teachers and the principle and got my certificate and head back to my seat.

    And this is what pissed me off. ¡°Sandra James!!¡± It was like it was like a concert and you could hear screams of ¡°I LOVE YOU!!¡± in the back and vigorous clapping could be heard throughout the crowd. My sister got up from her seat next to me and gave off those orbit smile to the crowd and gave waves of to the crowd.¡± Even the faculty were clapping very hard and smiles beaming off their faces like a reflective window with the sun shining on it.


    She gave all the teacher a hug while crying ¡°tears of joy¡± and I say with air quotes. She walks to back to her seat and quickly looked at me and smiled maliciously. I shuffled in my seat and felt a chill in my back. In a few minutes the ceremony had finished and everybody went to their families and started leaving school.


    It was kind of a depressing goodbye, my two friends and I were going to different colleges and I might not ever see my friends ever again. We had a group hug and there were some tears involved and the person wishes to remains anonymous.


    The car ride home was quiet, me and my sister were in the back with our graduation gowns still on. I was just looking outside through the car window while listening to some Alan Walker remixes on my playlist. My sister was on her phone texting like a crazy person to someone, her nails tapped rapidly against the phone screen and was very annoying. I sighed and raised the volume and continued to look through the window.


    When we got home, we had gone our different ways. I through all of my clothes on my bed and changed into new ones. I went on my computer and went to the Skyline University¡¯s website and inputted my code. I went to the forums and looked for summer classes or jobs to do because if I stayed a whole 3 months doing absolutely nothing I¡¯m going to cut myself (It was a joke, calm your offensive butts down, I like dark humor). There were a few jobs I was interested in, most were a being a lab rat for a harmless experiment and were rewarded big bucks. But there was one that caught my attention.


    I am looking for a person with moderate skill in work involving hands for research of a certain experiment and one needs to keep whatever they see a secret. I browsed through the site and looked through the general information on the forums. I look through the classes offered at the fall and damn were there a lot. It went to Quantum Mechanics to arts and crafts, they had a popular class list and number one on that list is the Hero course. I mentally sighed, If only I had powers¡­ Ding!


    I turn over my phone to see a message from a guy named Dr. Seno I tapped the message and it had said ¡± Hello Mr. James I carefully looked over your resume and I have found you acceptably for the position, please come to Skyline¡¯s R&D department tomorrow at 3:00pm. And also bring your stuff over you will be here till school starts¡±

 Chapter 3: Welcome to Skyline

    I opened my mouth to say something but the words were stuck in my throat. My heart was beating so fast and hard I felt like it was just going to explode. This was officially my first job and boy I am excited to leave this damn house. I skipped joyfully to my closet and grabbed a bag from a vacation a few years ago. I was packed within five minutes, I practice once a week during the whole senior year, preparing to leave this cursed house and head to college.


    The next morning I had told my family but I didn¡¯t tell them I got a shady job and was being paid 5 million dollars to do it. My mom was crying waterfalls while my sister just sat there eating her cereal and looking at her phone. I took a deep breath in and just said to myself ¡°It¡¯s my day and I¡¯m not going to let her ruin it¡±. I had called a cab to the house and said my goodbyes.


    Skyline University was actually in the middle of no where, It was on the border between the United States and Canada, in a really dense forest of really really tall trees. It was like the xavier mansion for the x-men but the downside was the cab was super expensive and practically wasted almost all of my spending money for the summer. The University had a huge gate that blocked the entrance and in the guard booth was an old guy in sweatpants and a sweatshirt saying ¡°SU¡± in bold. He had gray hair with a receding hairline and half closed eyes.


    ¡°Hello?¡± I knock on the window of the guard booth and the old man just disappeared like my life and I swear


    I heard a voice in the distance saying ¡°Wake me up inside!!¡±


    ¡°What do you want kid¡± I accidentally let out a high pitch scream out in the dark forest and echo¡¯s of it could be heard in the distance. I put a hand on my heart and calm down my breathing, ¡°Please don¡¯t scare like that.¡± I angrily ask, he shrugged his shoulders, ¡°Again what are you doing here kid?¡±


    ¡°I came for a job offer from Dr. Seno I believe.¡± I calmly answered the old man. He walked over back to the guard booth and picked up a tablet and scrolled through it nonchalantly like he own the world. After about a minute of scrolling, he looked up to me with his half closed sunken eyes ¡°You can go.¡± The raven black gates with the University¡¯s name inscribed on it slowly opened and I walked through it but... where was I?!

    The skies were bright blue, sun smiling down on the earth like the raisin bran cereal logo. You could feel the nice breeze on your skin, there were tons of people walking around chatting to their friends or playing a game of 2 hand touch football. What the fuck was this? I mumbled. I walked on a cobblestone trail leading to the campus and all around me were just people having a good time. Wasn¡¯t I just in a place that was in some forest with that creepy old man?


    The doors leading to the campus were huge like the black gate of mordor¡­ I say again huge. I reached to the doors and tried to push it but it didn¡¯t seem to budge at all.


    ¡°Hey man the door for you is on the right¡± I turned to the voice to see a man with golden hair and blue eyes point to a smaller door on the right which seemed much more normal to the gigantic door I was trying to open. ¡°Thanks¡± I thank him and awkwardly opened the door and opened to me and I let out a sigh of relief.


    Inside the main campus building was the most beautiful thing I ever saw in my entire, it was like a cathedral. There was a dome overhead with a huge glass chandelier, illuminating the insides of the building and I can only imagine what it does during the night.


    All around were all different kinds of people walking around or flying around in some cases. And there was this one guy who had literal angel wings on his back but the color was a vibrant dark purple that had a metallic shine to it. The whole time my mouth was in a ¡°o¡± shape while looking at this new and exotic environment.


    I walked up to the information and ask for instructions to get to Dr. Seno¡¯s office. The reception was quite the beauty, she was about half a head shorter than me but she had a confident look in her eyes which I liked, she had brown hair and hazel eyes that brought a certain kind of warmth when you looked in her eyes. Her lips were thick and had a sharp nose with tan skin.


    She happily pointed out where I should go and damn that smile just made my day. I took an elevator to floor 10 and carefully looking for room 222. The last door on the floor had multiple posters on it including a nuclear fallout sign, a bright red stop sign, and many more. And what do you know it was room 222
