《[Chained Abyss]》 [Chained Abyss] prologue Chapter 0: four years after the Demon God was sealed, two years before the story starts. Chains rattled and thunder boomed. No one expected this outcome. No one saw the death of their beloved leader coming. She was neither hero nor brave warrior, just a princess who led them. The brave heroes and their companions fought the Demon God bravely while a shackled child cried his eyes out in the midst of the chaotic conflict between the Demon God and the heroes. The child had Raven black hair and looked to be only ten or so, completely out of place in a place that could only be described as hell. Despite all this the child could not leave as he, along with hundreds of others were chained to the deceased body of a woman, the leader princess. * * * Ellis happily sat in her adopted father¡¯s lap. ¡°Daddy because I won the duel pistols [Misuspell] and [Hardfire] can I learn engraving?¡± The two parent and child were having a conversation far from the norm as the child had just gotten her hands on two devastating weapons from the founder of their noble house. ¡°Hmm you won those four years ago so it might be time to teach you engraving and now that the demon problem has subsided we can train you to be the successor of the house in peace.¡± Seeing the fourteen year old girl who would already be considered an adult in another year Balos couldn¡¯t help but shake his head at her childishness. She was growing into the appearance of a splendid woman but her mental maturity was on the lower side, this could be seen as she still sat in his lap and called him daddy rather than father. ¡°Then the first thing we have to do is teach you the history of the heros the reason for their struggle and the birth of the creature the church calls [Chained Abyss].¡± With that Bolas began his lesson. ¡°From the time historians began to take records the human race along with the other races in the world have feuded with the demon race. This all escalated greatly one hundred years ago when the Demon God came down from the heavens to personally lead the demons in their war against the human''s.¡± ¡°To the human¡¯s delight the Demon God was unable to leave the Demon Continent. With the personal interference of the Demon God the human¡¯s Divine Sword Goddess spent fifty years to summon twelve brave heroes who fought valiantly and eventually sealed the Demon God. But the road to that victory was not easy much less short as the brave heroes spent fifty years to gain it.¡± ¡°During these fifty years the only hero to establish a noble house was Enrique Von Ermine.¡± Because the house was established early I was named was named the second generation heir. With you, Ellis, being the third heir and receiving an inheritance four years ago, when the great conflict ended. But the end of the conflict also brought the birth of the creature the church named [Chained Abyss].¡± ¡°Daddy isn¡¯t the [Chained Abyss] just something that was made up to scare children now that parents can¡¯t use the Demon God to scare their kids?¡± Bolas looked up into the sky almost saddened. ¡°... No, no, he¡¯s real and I knew him personally, before I could stop him he was created and now I don¡¯t even know whether or not he¡¯s still himself. This is something that no one knows and no one is allowed to know or the church is willing to go to war but [Chained Abyss] is a human whose name is Sans Graham and he had close ties to this family once. And for his actions I will never blame him.¡± Graham was not a house name which Ellis recognized but knew her father would not lie to her about something so seemingly important. ¡°Daddy, um, isn¡¯t [Chained Abyss] a monster who fought the hero¡¯s group after they were down? Why do you understand it?¡± Looking at his daughter who was still not ready to hear the complete truth about the conflict with the Demon God Balos sighed. ¡°Him, not it. He was a good and innocent child but broke under our care and in the end lost himself and destroyed a cathedral of the church devoted to one of the subordinate gods to the Divine Sword Goddess. But you are not ready to know everything. luckily the conflict with the Demon God ended Four years ago and I can teach you everything at a gradual pace.¡± Not knowing or minding that he was responsible for his daughter¡¯s immaturity Balos continued to teach the world¡¯s history to his daughter. ¡°The conflict between the races and the demons had human''s at the forefront with little aid from the elves, dwarves, or the various beast men due to humans looking down on them. This was pushed forward by the church and human superiority was taught until the twelve heroes stated that all were equal under the watchful eyes of the Goddess.¡± Ellis had no discrimination against the other races but for a long time a radical group of the church spread teaching of human superiority and classified other races as sub-human. ¡°Now that''s the jist of it you''ll know the full story when you''re older but i don¡¯t want you being afraid or having any hateful feelings towards [Chained Abyss] okay?¡± Ellis nodded then went on to practice her magic after leaving her father¡¯s lap. ¡°Haaaa¡± letting out a deep sigh Balos looked at the back of his leaving daughter. ¡°Sans we wronged you greatly and now you''re gone. Although brother never intended for that to happen. He simply went about it the wrong way and forgot the teachings of the heroes. I hope you can forgive us.¡± * * * Vesta was born a witch raised by the church. A witch was a female who had a direct link to the spirits and needed very little chanting or mana to cast spells. Four years ago she was taken in by the church, it happened at the same time that the war against the Demon God ended. Today she was fourteen and gained a valuable item from the head priest. ¡°Vesta today we grant you this weapon [Pallas] this cursed sword was forged in the depths of the Demon Continent, with this we will train you and others like you to stand and fight the new terror of the world [Chained Abyss].¡± This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. When she heard the priest Vesta slightly shivered but took the sword regardless. The sword gave her the feeling of holding the coldest steel and deadliest weapon, sending never ending chills down her spine. But still she owed her life to the late First Imperial princess and the monster known as the [chained Abyss] had killed her along with hundreds of allies who fought alongside her in the final fight against the Demon God. ¡°Now take this sword and go into secluded training for two years, then we will begin to hunt the monster.¡± Seeing the young witch leave the head priest had a disgusting smile on his face. ¡°Children, they are laughable gullible. Still he appeared at a good time if not for him we would have tried to make the so called heroes into our next enemy¡ Yes we need an enemy to keep us together¡ I know we have to bring war to the filthy subhumans¡ Yes the dirty witch is simply a pawn and she¡¯ll most likely not survive more than the two years of isolation with that heathenous blade.¡± * * * A boy stood atop a cliff looking down at the world. His Raven black hair tossing in the wind, his expressionless face staring at nothing. ¡°Jump, come on do it, let''s see if we go splat.¡± ¡°Now there is no need to test our mortality that would be idiotic.¡± Although he was the only one around the boy could clearly hear two distinct voices. The first was that of a crazed male lunatic, the second was that of a kind female. Finally feeling slightly irritated the boy spoke. ¡°You two don¡¯t shut up do you? I was trying to relax for a while before I continue hunting.¡± The voices were in his head and would never leave, luckily it was only two now in the past there were hundreds but these two seemingly ¡°ate¡± the rest and were the only ones remaining. And although the two seemed similar they were made in drastically different ways. The first crazed voice was a combination of half the voices that assaulted the boy previously and the forced merger made it nothing but a crazed being. The second voice was different it had a distinct personality strong, wise, and seemingly kind. This one took a different route to power it dominated the other voices and took what strength they had becoming the other dominant voice in his head. ¡°Sans jump!¡± Without hesitation Sans jumped backward dodging an incoming spear. ¡°HA you always ruin the fun I wanted to see if that would kill us.¡± ¡°Shut it you know it wouldn¡¯t and in the end just cause trouble.¡± No longer wanting to argue with the crazed voice in his head Sans ran in the direction the spear had been thrown. After ten minutes of searching for whoever had thrown the spear he found a camp of church men. sneaking around he slowly drew closer. ¡°Uuuuu kill them, decapitation, disembowelment, Oh oh and dismemberment the great triple D. Do it now!¡± While the lunatic was crazy, Sans had no problem killing these men if the were the one¡¯s after him. ¡°No they are church men in this forsaken continent. Sans I know what you¡¯ve been through but killing them isn¡¯t the way.¡± Just as she was speaking Sans drew close enough to hear what the church men were saying. ¡°Was that really [Chained Abyss] on the ledge? He seemed to only be a child. He couldn¡¯t have been older than twelve.¡± ¡°My son should be about his age. I can''t imagine a kid like that being alone in the Demon Continent.¡± ¡°Both of you quiet. You saw how he dodged the spear without even looking if our info is right then he¡¯s [Chained Abyss] the appearance is just to fool you. Now we kill him and present the head to his holiness.¡± The three spoke quietly but Sans had no problem hearing them. ¡°Wait isn¡¯t he supposed to be above the advanced rank, he could even be above the master rank. How are we three suppose to kill that thing?¡± Two of the church men looked at their leader. ¡°From the information we gathered the unless you hear chains rattling then he should just be at the intermediate level once you hear the chains run.¡± Before they could formulate a plan of attack the leader screamed, from his chest a bloodied hand stuck out holding his still beating heart. ¡°Sans do not kill then that man has a son, you heard him, spare the remaining two and do not continue this. Please, I beg of you.¡± ¡°No kill them c''mon. Taste their blood.¡± Ignoring both the voices Sans slowly pulled out his hand still holding the heart. Before either of the two remaining church men could react Sans had already made his move and ripped one arm off the socket of each man. ¡°Ahhhhhhh¡± With the screams of the men echoing through the cliff side Sans smiled ¡°A compromise I can''t leave them be but I guess I won¡¯t kill them. Unless they keep chasing me after this¡¡± Looking at the two screaming men Sans walked away. ¡°You two return to your families and do not disturb me I''m working.¡± With that he sped away. ¡°Aww you should have finished their dismemberment.¡± ¡°No what he did was far from right but killing would have been worse. Sans you may have just ruined the lives of two good men and ended the life of another.¡± Hearing her say this both the crazed voice and Sans laughed. ¡°You, do you really feel you have the right to speak of ruining lives. You and your church are the reason why we were born, why we kill.¡± With that the only thing left in the vast cliff was the laughter responding in Sans head. [Chained Abyss] chapter 1: Getting a boat Chapter 1: Getting a boat Sans walked along the back allies of the shadiest place he could find in one of the few cities that allowed humans in on the Demon Continent. ¡°You know Spector City isn¡¯t so bad.¡± Looking around he could see corpses lying on the ground dead from starvation. ¡°Sans This place is horrid and what we fought against years ago.¡± Having the ever present voice in his head Sans had already grown accustomed to his self appointed conciseness. ¡°Ah I like the place makes me feel welcome.¡± The other voice had changed over the years while still insane it made less of a racket in his mind. Anyone who saw Sans would see him as a normal twelve year old immature brat. In reality this year he had just turned sixteen and due to some circumstances he had long ago stopped aging. ¡°Sans I know you wish to go back to the Goddesses Continent but there has to be a better way.¡± After giving a slight smile Sans shook his head. ¡°Nope cause of you and your grand plan we aren¡¯t wanted anywhere but luckily humans are vile creatures that would turn to anyone with power to do their dirty work. And I have no desire to return to that place it¡¯s just for a job. Besides the plan is foolproof.¡± His plan actually had plenty of holes in it but they had already been pointed out to him. Because he was considered an enemy of mankind and all the other races after having some ¡°problems¡± with a minor god¡¯s church, no boat would take him across the ocean to other continents. So he came up with a simple plan, pretend to be a helpless child and get taken by slavers who would smuggle him across the ocean. ¡°Luckily my wanted poster is scarce and only shows what I would look like had I grown up. I¡¯m guessing the heroes had something to do with that. Guess there helpful sometimes.¡± Not wanting to waste anymore time Sans began to look around restlessly and cower every few steps. ¡°You know those in authority have a real portrait of you right?¡± Sans almost broke his act to respond but suppressed the urge to argue. ¡°That''s why I¡¯m doing this, how are you so slow.¡± Whispering this Sans finally felt the presence of others. ¡°Yay they¡¯re here. Can we kill the first batch? It¡¯s not like they¡¯re good people.¡± Shaking his head Sans sighed waiting for someone to try and take him. Luckily it only took a few moments before three large middle aged men in beger attire jumped in front of him and with practiced ease threw him in a burlap sack. Inside the bag was some sort of sleeping powder that would normally put any child to sleep. ¡°Well... might as well pretend then.¡± Because the powder was ineffective against him Sans had to pretend to have been knocked out. ¡°Haha we caught a good one, this one will sell for a good amount and our cut won¡¯t be small.¡± ¡°HA! Brother did you see the skin on him some noble lady is going to have fun breaking him.¡± Hearing the chatter of the men Sans couldn¡¯t help but smile, his plan had worked. ¡°Unless they sell you to a different continent then there¡¯ll be trouble!¡± Upon hearing the insane voice have some reason Sans mood dropped. ¡°Well anyway we¡¯ll just kill everyone at that point and try again.¡± He was in no hurry, his client wanted someone to kill a large beast in under three years that gave him enough time to go about the contract in whatever way he wanted. Normally he would only take contracts that kept him in the Demon Continent but the number of people who knew who he really was had increased to something uncomfortable and more people looking for fame had recently been showing up. In just the last week he had killed around forty hunters and critically injured ten. So he chose to head to a different continent and it just happened to be near his hometown. * * * Ellis sat in a meditative position feeling the mana in the air and steadily bringing it to the various sheets of metal around her. One by one she was engraving magic formulas into the small sheets these would become the disposable shells for her two magic guns. After an hour she had finished the preparations all that was left was to turn the sheets into bullets. What she had just done could be considered extraordinary for anyone her age but she thought she needed to be better. Her father had adopted her for her talent and she would not let him down. He never treated her any differently for being adopted but that just made her want to strive harder and make him proud. But before she could continue Ellis heard light but quick footsteps approaching from behind her. Turning around she saw a small girl about ten years old. ¡°Ellis! Let¡¯s play!¡± The small girl was her cousin, Gwendalin. ¡°Gwen, Uncle will be mad if you¡¯re skipping your training again.¡± At the mention of her Father Gwen¡¯s cheeks inflamed and she began to pout. ¡°It doesn''t matter Papa¡¯s a dummy.¡± Seeing her pout like that Ellis understood that the parent and child had another argument. But these would never last long, after all her uncle could never stay mad at his precious daughter who¡¯s talent in combat and magic far exceeded most if she trained hard enough it might even be possible for Gwen to win the two magic pistoles from her. and for this reason Ellis believed that her uncle who prioritized talent over all would never really be mad at his daughter. ¡°What did you fight about?¡± Gwen still looked marginally angry but answered. ¡°Hmph dumb Papa, all I want to know was where big brother is and he scolded me and told me not to talk about it¡¡± With tears in her eyes Gwen looked at the ground. ¡°... I miss big brother and¡ And dumb Papa won¡¯t go pick him up.¡± Ellis didn¡¯t know what to say as she looked at her younger cousin. Gwen¡¯s brother Sans Von Ermine, her cousin. He was the only one to compete with her for the two magic pistols. Most expected that each would take one after a good confrontation but Sans was simply too weak and she won both pistols along with the title of heir to the Von Ermine house. In the end no one knew what happened to him except for the fact that Sans¡¯ father, her uncle Barten Von Ermine had disowned him and sent him off somewhere to train. It was also strange that Gwen had a deep attachment to her brother considering that he was only around till the time she was four. But because of these circumstances Gwen would often ask her father to pick up her brother from wherever he was left to train. ¡°Your brother is somewhere far away and can¡¯t come right now plus you father is busy so wait a while longer after some time I''ll go ask Dad about your brother and see if I can bring him back to you. Now stop crying okay.¡± Because she couldn¡¯t stand to see her little cousin cry she made such a promise. But the small shallow promise was enough to brighten the mood of the little girl and both began to play with the various toys that Gwen had brought along. In the back of her mind Ellis couldn¡¯t help but think that she had heard the name Sans somewhere before and felt fear. However that had nothing to do with Gwen''s brother as she thought that he was most likely dead, if he weren''t her uncle would have brought him back long ago. * * * In another corner of the Von Ermine house two men saw in front of a large pile of documents. Neither concentrating on the work that needed to be done. ¡°Now tell me what''s gotten to you today¡± the first to speak was Bolas the current head of the Von Ermine house, next to him was his younger brother Barten Von Ermine. ¡°... It¡¯s Gwen¡± Sighing Barten looked towards the ceiling. ¡°She keeps asking for her ¡°brother¡±.¡± Mentioning his son Barten almost scowled. Bolas could only lightly shake his head. ¡°That child, we wronged him. And four four years he was the only one she knew. Even your wife would only be around to feed her and sometimes it would just be a wet nurse, the only constant face she had was Sans.¡± Hearing his name spoke Barten openly scowled. ¡°That trash was weak, he had no place in this family so I sent him off. Then he momentarily gained some semblance of power by luck and went mad, further showing his weakness. He¡¯s a disgrace.¡± Bolas didn¡¯t know what to say to his brother. By all rights it should be Barten and not him who sat in the seat of family head as he was the strongest but the founder had appointed him heir. After that his younger brother wholeheartedly supported him and the two acted as a good pair. But they could never agree on one subject, Sans Von Ermine or better known as Sans Graham the [Chained Abyss]. ¡°Do you know where the boy is? I haven¡¯t heard any reports since the incident two years ago.¡± Barten shook his head. ¡°No after he attacked the two from the church for reasons only the goddess can understand he hasn¡¯t appeared. driven insane by the chains and souls he must have died somewhere.¡± Bolas agreed solemnly with a nod of his head. The last report they had received was that Sans had attacked a piece group in the Demon Continent there to evacuate any humans who could no longer bare to stay in that forsaken place, most of these people were good warriors that had fought the Demon God¡¯s hordes of vile creatures and just wanted to return to their families. ¡°More importantly we have other matters to attend to. Our duke house has been on the decline, and the founder hasn¡¯t been seen after the battle with the Demon God. Before we were undisputed and second only to the king but now¡ While we aren''t in any sort of disadvantageous position we are on evened ground with the other duke houses.¡± Barten wished to get off the topic of his failed son so he began to speak of the reason for all their troubles. ¡°We should just hold on until the next generation is ready to take over Ellis and Gwen are incredible talents and no one will refute them when they are together. Just this month Ellis was able to engrave a half master spell and it seems that little Gwen has been thinking up a unique method to increase our forces.¡± While relying on the younger generation seemed like a bad idea this was all they could do and their best hope. Both of them although talented could only break into what was considered the master class in magic. A magician''s ranking was dependent on the spells he or she could cast from weakest to strongest it was beginner, intermediate, advanced, master, King, and emperor. As for warriors they were less obvious as it depended on various things such as skill, strength, and experience but in general they would also be put into the class of beginner, intermediate, advanced, master, King, and emperor. * * * In another part of the world two figures stood atop a dragon chatting. ¡°You sure that it¡¯s a good idea to let your family decline that way?¡± The one to speak was a dark skinned man who had been summoned over fifty years ago to this world, despite this he looked to be only around thirty. ¡°They should suffer a bit, I¡¯m still pissed about the whole [Chained Abyss] situation¡ And if the goddess didn¡¯t personally ask for me not to destroy the church I would have already done so¡ How could they treat my grandson like this, making him humanity¡¯s new enemy. She better fix this quick.¡± The dark man laughed ¡°You should have looked after that son of yours better, what was his name? Ah Barten! Yea I mostly blame him for getting your grandson involved. But the incident back then was completely the church¡¯s fault¡ Regardless we are free to do as we wish now. Some of us are going back how about you?¡± Regardless of who¡¯s fault it was Enrique still blamed himself, due to the war with the Demon God he had a very estranged relationship with his family and after his wife passed it became even worse. He looked into the sky and let out a deep sigh. ¡°I¡¯ll stay here and act like an anchor if I need your help on anything I''ll go and bring you guys back.¡± * * * After a lot of people mistreated him and roughed him up Sans was finally on a boat headed somewhere. ¡°Yay boat ride. Let¡¯s make this a ghost ship. Come to they¡¯re begging to swim with the fishes¡¡± Ignoring the crazed voice who was strangely excited Sans began to wonder where the boat was going. It was obviously somewhere far so another continent was likely considering the size of the ship. Reading on Amazon or a pirate site? This novel is from Royal Road. Support the author by reading it there. ¡°I¡¯ve stated that this was a bad idea now we''re off to some unknown place.¡± Sans looked around only to see various children from all races chained similarly to the way he was on the wall. ¡°Lucky more chains!¡± With that Sans broke the cuffs around his legs. Seeing such a spectacle the children around widened their eyes. Bringing his finger to his lips Sans whispered. ¡°Shhhh if you''re quiet we can get out of this and have some fun too.¡± The children looked confused at how they could have fun in this situation but then Sans had done something they already considered ridicules. ¡°Now does anyone know where we are going?¡± All the kids shook their little heads not knowing what their destination was. Looking around there were at least forty kids that Sans could see. ¡°This is wrong, Sans you must help them out of here.¡± Sans felt the same way and would do something for them but first he had to figure out what he was going to do to help himself. ¡°Just wring their little necks then the pain will end¡ We can even take them in!¡± ¡°No. We don¡¯t need any more people inside our head¡ Let''s find out where we¡¯re going first.¡± Looking at the children Sans wanted them to have some hope of getting back to their families or elsewhere that they had to be. ¡°So, I''ll go up and see where we¡¯re going. Then I''ll beat up everyone on board then take you back to where ever you wanna go and if you have nowhere to go well, I guess I can find a nice orphanage or something for you.¡± Seeing all the kids brighten up slightly Sans almost smiled. ¡°Or we kill them all. Just saying it would be fun and cost efficient.¡± With the crazed voice killing his mood Sans walked towards a ladder that would take him to a higher level on the boat where he could find someone that knew their destination. After exiting the holding area for the captured children Sans quickly found out that he was on a large cargo ship and that the corner put away for him and the other children was fairly small compared to everything else. Having surveyed a section of the ship he would have to guess that it was at least one hundred yards wide and had at least four floors. With this size it was unlikely that the boat belonged to the smugglers, or they would have had more children and maybe some slaves that could be illegally sold. ¡°Sans see if you can find the captin and inform him of the situation.¡± ¡°No let''s just take over the boat, you promised those children fun. Wouldn¡¯t letting them take turns being the captain be fun.¡± Sans hated to admit any one of the two being right but then he had already gone partially insane from having the two in his head. ¡°So let''s go with both plans I''ll inform someone and if they are with the smugglers then I kill everything and take the ship.¡± Not wasting any time Sans ran to the higher levels, strangely he had yet to run into any of the crew but the section he was in seemed to be filled with illegal things making it seem that the captain had little chance of survival. Finally after reaching the third floor he found out why no one was roaming the bottom. It seemed to be night time and the patrols were going around above instead of down below. Most likely during the day the lowest floor would be a bit more lively. The third floor had plenty of people sleeping in small cramped rooms. Wasting no time Sans grabbed the first person he saw walking around with his small hand over the man''s mouth and the other twisting his arm. ¡°Make a sound and I brake it, nod if you understand.¡± The man nodded slowly confused at how a such a small hand seemed to have so much force. ¡°Now I''ll let you speak, first what¡¯s your name?¡± The man quickly answered in a low voice. ¡°Mark.¡± ¡°Okay then Mark, where are we headed?¡± Mark had a bewildered expression on his face as someone was asking him where a ship they boarded was heading. ¡°The¡ The Dragon Continent.¡± Sans was surprised and a little down as he was hoping to head to the goddess¡¯s continent. ¡°Okay doing good and giving fine answers here mark. Then last question, what do you know about the kidnaped children and other illegal things on the lowest floor?¡± At the mention of kidnaped children Mark¡¯s face went pale. ¡°I¡ I¡ I didn¡¯t know¡ The captain sometime takes shady business but never slaves, they aren''t his thing and¡ And especially not children.¡± ¡°He¡¯s lying through his teeth, break them.¡± ¡°No he seems the honest sort and the idea of kidnaped children seems to have friended him more than anything.¡± Having to very different opinions Sans just stared at Mark before knocking him out. ¡°Now to put him with the children, tell them not to eat him, and find the captain. After that it¡¯s either gonna be bloody for the crew or just the criminals.¡± Taking the unconscious Mark down to the children and tying him up was no problem the real issue would be keeping him from being found before he could meet the captain and ascertain his place in all this criminal activity. * * * Ellis Walked towards her father¡¯s study, she had made a promise to Gwen and she intended to keep it. Normally she would just tell her a little white lie but the name Sans was reverberating in her head, she had heard it somewhere and needed to know. ¡°Daddy I have some things I want to know.¡± Putting on her sweetest voice and most spoiled aura she entered the study were her father was almost buried in papers. Peeking his head out from the papers Bolas looked at his daughter and knew she wanted something simply by the way she carried herself. ¡°Yes Ellis, what is it that you wish to know?¡± Looking at her father''s near defeated expression Ellis thought that this would be an easy discussion. ¡°So I found Gwen crying her little heart out and seeing it almost killed me of grief¡ When I asked what happened she told me that¡¡± Right at that moment Bolas interrupted her. ¡°Yes I know why she was that way and no we can¡¯t just go pick him up¡¡± Before continuing Bolas let out a small sigh and moved from behind his desk, closed the doors to his study, and sat down on a chair void of any mess while jestering for Ellis to take a seat on a chair across from him. ¡°... It¡¯s not easy to say this and you uncle will never admit it as a mistake but when your cousin showed how powerless he was, well he wasn¡¯t set off to train¡ He was disowned and banished. Because of a mistake and the anger of your uncle along with some peers¡ He was sent to the Demon Continent before the climax of the end of the war.¡± This was not the full story but it was enough and all that Bolas was willing to tell his daughter for now. Ellis on the other hand had a horrified expression. Weakness in this family, especially the one¡¯s who were under her uncle, was considered the gravest of sins. But it still couldn¡¯t be something to get sent to a war zone for. Seeing his daughter so taken aback Bolas knew exactly what she was thinking. ¡°... Then¡ Then is there any way he¡¯s still alive?¡± Bolas shook his head solemnly. ¡°The chances of that are too small and unlikely.¡± * * * Unknown to the two who were speaking Gwen¡¯s subordinate had been listening to the whole conversation. For the last two years she had been working on a new magic she called [Doll Creation], using the mana and the spirits in the air she would make automaton like dolls that would act and fight on her behalf. She had a small paper tiger follow Ellis and listen in on the conversation she had with her father then report back to her. If her spell were to be classified solely on strength then she would still be a beginner magician but because of it¡¯s diversity and difficulty to execute she liked to consider herself an advanced magician. And she figured that as long as she used better materials for future dolls they would be that much stronger. With it¡¯s fastest speed the paper tiger began running to it¡¯s master. * * * Sans took about an hour to reach the top level of the ship without being spotted. He noticed that a ship this large had a fair share of advanced class warriors and hiding from them took a bit more skill than what he planned on so the surprise made him take a bit longer to reach the top. Getting near some crew members who were watching out for anything strange Sans listened in on their conversation. ¡°Hey you think Mark¡¯s gonna show his face in front the cap today.¡± ¡°Na he¡¯ll run till the cap¡¯s cooled down then the two¡¯ll be buddies again after some good drink.¡± The two men laughed and Sans began to wonder about the identity of the man he was holding semi captive. after that small conversational piece Sans moved on trying to locate the captain. ¡°So we can head to either the nicest looking place or the most guarded.¡± ¡°I suggest the highest residence, if it¡¯s not that then go to the nicest. The most guarded usually only has money.¡± Nodding he made his way to the second floor of the deck where a cabin looking structure stood. There were only three entrenches that he could see the front door and two windows. ¡°Well front door it is then.¡± Fixing his clothes and putting on his most timid expression Sans openly walked up to the door. Knocking on the door lightly making himself seem intimidated Sans put on a great act. ¡°Come in!¡± From inside the room a strong male voice loudly reverberated. slowly opening the door Sans looked down to the floor not looking at whoever was inside. ¡°Cap¡ Captain? Mar¡ Mark sent me.¡± ¡°Well then come in and tell me what that coward wants. And look me in the face when you say it lad.¡± The voice seemed annoyed but had no malice behind it. Looking up he found a middle aged man in his late thirties with a large beard. Smiling Sans was happy, the man had more or less confirmed that he was in fact the captain of the ship. Seeing the boy¡¯s smile a chill ran down the captain¡¯s spine. Before the captain could do anything Sans had seemingly disappeared and reappeared right before his eyes. Without so much as a second Sans was already holding a knife to the captain¡¯s throat. ¡°Now scream and you die. Make any sudden movements and you die. He''ll make me mad and you die.¡± The captain''s eyes dilated. ¡°You, you''re in the advanced class no maybe even the master class but if you kill me don¡¯t think you can survive here.¡± Sans now had an expressionless face while he pressed the knife closer to the captain¡¯s throat. ¡°That doesn¡¯t really matter. So answer one question. Do you know about the children down below deck?¡± The captain looked offended. ¡°What children? I know everything there is on this boat and there are no children.¡± ¡°He seems to be Lying but don''t kill him just get him to do-operate. Tell him the location and ask for his assistance.¡± ¡°No break his fingers and then if he still sings the same tune then we belive him.¡± This wasn¡¯t a bad idea but then he would have to endure her relentless lectures so he decided not to. ¡°Well Mark¡¯s down there with them right now. Hell I was with them chained to a wall not to long ago. Good thing I''m strong enough to break your average chains¡ It¡¯s the phantom one¡¯s you have to look out for.¡± The captain looked surprised then angry. ¡°So you found them and what, are you some sort of hired assassin?¡± Sans smiled at the confession. ¡°Kill!!!!¡± ¡°Oh nice confession well I guess I kill you now along with the rest of the crew¡ Hmm maybe not, I''ll leave some alive after all I don¡¯t know much about sea voyages¡ Anyway die.¡± With that he slit the throat of the captain before he had a chance to scream or curse. Just when he was planning to go off to kill the rest of the crew he heard a defending shout. ¡°PIRATES!!!! SOUND THE ALARMS!!!!¡± [Chained Abyss] Chapter 2: golden knight is a thing Chapter 2 golden knight is a thing Pirates were attacking the ship at the perfect time this way they could take out most of the crew and lose some of their own and when all''s said and done Sans could take everything. Of course he wouldn¡¯t normally think of doing something like this but the crew like their captain was likely to be very corrupt. ¡°Pirates arrrg. Let''s see if they have booty haha I said booty.¡± ¡°I¡¯m surprised that you didn¡¯t suggest killing everyone first.¡± Sans was actually marginally surprised that something other than the desire to kill came from this insane voice. ¡°I''m hurt what do you think of me, really I only suggest the most fun rout In our life.¡± Without thinking further into the thoughts of a crazed mind in his head Sans decided that the best thing to do was free the children and see what Mark knew on the fact that the ship had children as slaves. Luckily with the pirate warning and the fact that he now wasn¡¯t trying to hide it only took him ten odd minutes to reach the bottom of the ship once more. There he saw a strange site of Mark trying to convince the children to somehow help him get free. ¡°C¡¯mon kids help me find a way and I''ll help you get out of here you see I know some good people that can help you get back home.¡± The kids seemed to be relatively hostile but some would at least respond. ¡°Lier because of your ship mommy¡¯s dead.¡± ¡°Yea and the other weird kid got free and promised us the same thing and he got out on his own.¡± As he said that the kid pointed at a broken shackle. ¡°Okay point taken, he has more credibility but soon pirates are good to be coming and because they are good pirates that hurt the bad people we can figure out how to get you home.¡± Sans got enough information from listening to the conversation and stept into the open where the children and Mark could see him. ¡°So the pirates are already here. I was thinking of either finishing this crew off or the pirate crew and taking a ship but are you sure you''re with them?¡± Mark was startled by Sans sudden interruption but quickly calmed down remembering how he had snuck up on him and moved his unconscious body to this area. ¡°So what happened to the captain?¡± Without answering his question Sans began to destroy the shackles holding the kids, in total there were around thirty of them. ¡°I asked first.¡± Seeing that Sanas was either serious or really good at acting his part Mark gave up having his question answered first. ¡°Yes I''m with the pirates, you knowing about them means they''re here. They are good people and only rob the targets we scouts designate depending on what they ship. I was going to pass this one but these children are here so we¡¯re gonna take the ship. Plus because I¡¯m not there to give the signal they might attack anyway.¡± Sans was somewhat impressed that he would have an important role in this but still didn¡¯t care much as long as he was able to arive in the Goddesses Continent. ¡°But then i have to answer your question. So he knew about the slaves threatened to kill me or have me killed then his throat was opened up and blood sprayed everywhere, that was the last time I saw him.¡± Mark looked down to the floor. ¡°Then he¡¯s dead¡ you know i was hoping he didn¡¯t know about this and we could keep being friends, one of the downsides to being a scout and finding a good target, you make friends.¡± Seeing the downed Mark Sans was going to cheer him up but stopped as it wasn¡¯t something he knew how to do, so he decided to continue with the conversation. ¡°Then my turn, can these so called ¡®good¡¯ pirates really help these children get back to their homes?¡± Sans had made a promise to show these kids a fun time and while it was something he could just ignore he had no reason to. And according to the insane voice in his head what could be more fun than being a pirate for a while. ¡°Yes join them then we¡¯ll get a pet bird and a claw hand. Maybe even a peg leg.¡± ¡°Sans do not join a group of pirates, regardless of how noble they present themselves they are still pirates.¡± Sans for the most part was inclined to listen to the insane voice in these situations because, in the end his goal as he had stated was fun. ¡°Well considering that this might be fun and if you¡¯re captain can promise to take these kids back to their families or take them in i won¡¯t go on a killing rampage.¡± Seeing the perfectly serious Sans, Mark had a cold sweat dripping down his back. If he stowed away on any ship it was likely that even when they looked for him he could hide and take out multiple people. Without any effort Sans broke the chain that was holding Mark in place. ¡°Wow these things are horrible. Well let''s go up and see if we can find the captain then bring these kids up when everything is safe. If you help out in subduing the crew things might go a lot faster. But try not to kill anyone as the captain doesn¡¯t like massacres.¡± Sans just nodded and looked back at the children. ¡°Okay I¡¯ll make everything safe and then we¡¯ll talk to the captain and if he doesn''t agree we¡¯ll take the ship and sail it ourselves it¡¯ll be a sea adventure.¡± Turning back to Mark Sans had a smile on his face. ¡°By the way I¡¯m going to need a mount for when i reach land is there anything good around here? I¡¯ll keep it and some other stuff and in return for less trouble from your captain I¡¯ll help with subduing the crew.¡± Mark readily agreed to this and told Sans that he could find a pen on the second floor towards the middle, apparently it couldn¡¯t be missed due to the smell. ¡°We¡¯re finally getting that pony she always wanted.¡± ¡°I had a horse and I don¡¯t think taking things from these people is a good idea, we might be lumped together with the Pirates.¡± Sans payed little attention and quickly found the pen. In truth the smell was bad and he had only missed it before due to the fact that he had gone another route. ¡°Then we¡¯ll get the best horse and be on our way to help the pirates.¡± ¡°Sans you should not be helping criminals, it can¡¯t go well.¡± ¡°We¡¯re the biggest of criminals and at this point both sides are wrong then I take the one who can help those kids and let''s them have fun.¡± Without further discussion Sans began to look through the stables. There were more than just horses, there were also various kinds of livestock. But nothing caught his attention, but before he simply grabbed a horse Sans saw a large warning label and a completely closed off pen. ¡°That is a bad idea it¡¯s closed off for a reason.¡± Moving towards the closed off pen he held some anticipation as to what it could be. ¡°Maybe it¡¯s a tiger or a lion or a wolf. Ahhh what if it¡¯s a monster we would look awesome.¡± Agreeing with the crazed voice Sans began breaking the various locks as he didn¡¯t have the keys. When he opened the door he found something a little more shocking than all the things that the crazed voice had mentioned. In the pen was a sheep wolf with golden wool. Sheep wolves were monsters in the lowest category, they had the appearance of sheeps but their mouths could transform to that of a wolf. The only way to tell the difference was for one to attack you or in this case to growl. ¡°We¡ We¡ We have to ride that into battle on that creature.¡± Sans agreed it would be fun and if this sheep wolf needed so many locks and warnings it couldn¡¯t be weak. But his biggest factor for this was that a light of intelligence flashed in it¡¯s eyes. This was something Sans had seen occasionally when hunting monsters on the demon continent. Some monsters would gain intelligence equal or greater to that of the average human. ¡°Little sheep I know you should more or less understand me. I came here to find a mount and you would be perfect, join me and we can rampage.¡± The sheep had look rather menacing and ready to attack until it heard that they would rampage. ¡°Baaaaa.¡± ¡°Yes we will fight and win.¡± ¡°Baa.¡± ¡°Of course this is an equal partnership.¡± ¡°Baaaa.¡± ¡°I could even teach you how to become stronger.¡± With a nod of it¡¯s head the sheep let out a deep resounding. ¡°BAAAA!¡± ¡°Could you really understand what it was saying?¡± ¡°Of course¡ Not!¡± Sans had no idea what the sheep could possibly be saying instead he was just going along and having fun with the situation. Most of the time he would be rather tense and unable to unwind but having left the demon continent were it wouldn¡¯t be strange for everyone to try and kill him Sans let loose a little. ¡°Then you¡¯ll need a name. Are you a boy or a girl? Should I check?¡± It took some yes or no questions but Sans had determined that the sheep was female and already and intermediate warrior on top of having the ability to use some magic. ¡°Then I''ll call you Flice.¡± Without waiting any further Sans jumped on the back of the sheep and gave a loud yell. ¡°Charge to the deck!¡± The two of them with charged to the deck along the way they had met both pirates and crew members from the cargo ship but all of them had been easily put down with one kick from Flice. Fighting was left mostly to her while he kept an eye open for a suitable weapon to use. Something long like a spear or a staff would be preferable in this case but all Sans could find were cutlasses and other swords. ¡°Flice Charge to the upper deck then we''ll find someone important after playing around for a while.¡± When they made it to the upper deck the odd pair began attacking people indiscriminately. Sans had at some point picked up a mop and began using it like some sort of spear. After only a couple of minutes together Flice and Sans had been able to understand one another. She would take care of anyone directly behind or infront of them with a swift kick while he would defend her and use the mop to attack those one either side of her. Some of the one they knocked out could have stood a fair chance fighting the golden sheep wolf but the bizarre situation made surprised them and created a big enough opening for them to be knocked out. But because their attacks were indiscriminate one one group charged at them of paid them much attention. Seeing that they were being informed for the most part Flice sneered. ¡°Ah that¡¯s got you annoyed too, then let''s head to where the real fun is!¡± The ship had more than several advanced ranked individuals and they were putting up a good fight against the pirates but with the combination of human wave tactics and several of their own advanced ranked pirates the ship''s crew was at a disadvantage. ¡°Those let''s take out those!¡± Sans used his mop/spear to point at two seemingly evenly matched individuals fighting in a very serious way. Flice fueled by her previous annoyance and a desire for combat charged recklessly into the fray. The two who were reaching the climax of their battle had a mix of passion and respect in their eyes as they looked at one another. They were both warriors who had fought many bitter battles in their line of work and this would be the last for one of them. However before they could say anything or continue they were tuned at what arrived before them a child riding a golden sheep while holding a mop. ¡°I am the great sheep riding knight Sans! Cower before me and fear my might for generations!¡± With his odd declaration The sheep charged at the ship crew member, it remembered the uniform that he was wearing was similar to the ones worn by those that captured it. Previously it had not noticed because only the advanced ranks on the ship wore the uniform and up until now it had been dealing with small fries. Having recognized its enemy it would not simply ignore the man and continue fighting both sides. ¡°BAAAAA!¡± With a cry filled with rage it charged. ¡°Hahaha this thing holds a grudge I think it just chose a side!¡± ¡°Sans as fun as this might be this is still not a wise choice, siding with criminals is wrong.¡± Sans didn¡¯t really care he simply had no reason to. With a joyous smile he allowed Flice to charge and held his mop horizontally as if to perform a sweep. The Advanced ranked crew member had not reached that level by luck or called himself that just for show. Despite the abruptness of the sheep knight¡¯s entrance he held his sword in front of him with a determined look. The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings. ¡°Boy stop this and go under deck then we can see if the guard at whatever stop we reach will give you leniency wherever we stop.¡± It was obvious that the crew man thought that the pirates would be caught but Sans didn¡¯t really care as he had confidence in his strength. ¡°Fall before the sheep knight!¡± With his battle cry he swept the mop in his hand but because it was not something meant for combat it was directly bisected in two by the crew man. Despite this Flice charged closer and made no alterations to her path, feeling her resolve Sans launched himself at a speed faster than the man could swing his sword. With his fist Sans knocked the sword out of the man¡¯s hand and Flice gave him a solid kick to the gut knocking him out. Seeing all this happen in such a short amount of time the advanced ranked pirate was in shock. Not minding him Sans spoke. ¡°The mighty sheep knight requires a new weapon¡ You bring me another mop!¡± Pointing at a random pirate who had seen what just happened Sans smiled when he somehow or other brought him one. ¡°So why the mop?¡± ¡°I¡¯m having fun with this, later I¡¯ll get a spear or something.¡± The other voice didn¡¯t speak instead it just laughed and repeated the words sheep knight. Sans was indeed having fun with this as he had not been able to unwind in a while, because of that his personality had been more geared towards the kinder voice in his head. Although he did often kill but he didn¡¯t do it simply because it was fun he always had some reason. But now that he could relax he was doing things simply to have some fun. While he was thinking this someone called out to him. ¡°So does the grand sheep knight have a name?¡± Looking back Sans was shocked and mesmerized. The one who called out to him was a female pirate dressed fully in a captain''s hat and long coat. ¡°Ah, I''m Sans. The great sheep knight.¡± ¡°We, we have to fall for her!¡± ¡°Sans no! You¡¯r at most fourteen maybe fifteen this is a bad thing.¡± Sans agreed with her this couldn¡¯t be a good thing. Sans had never known love or carnal pleasures himself but he knew what they were and was more than exposed to them during his stay in the Demon Continent. By his, and most, standards of beauty the captain looking woman before him was almost perfect filling out in all the right places while standing at least six feet in height. The pirate woman laughed a little while looking at Sans. ¡°I¡¯m the captain of the Liberation Pirates, Jessica. Then what''s a knight like you doing here.¡± Sans couldn¡¯t help but break into laughter at Jessica who was playing along with his little knight play. ¡°Ahhh I haven¡¯t had fun in a while. I¡¯m sorry for that. Well I was kidnaped then I broke out because I had let myself get captured and while going on a little spy work I found Flice here and we went on a little rampage.¡± Jessica kept her smile at Sans and let out a little chuckle. ¡°Then I''m going to assume that you¡¯re from the demon continent and we''re just trying to get out¡ It must have been hard for you.¡± Sans didn¡¯t answer for a bit while looking at what had become a sad face on Jessica, in truth it had been a hard life but nothing he couldn¡¯t cope with by ignoring the fact that it happened or blaming it on circumstance. ¡°Well it¡¯s not that hard and I''m not as young as I look, new year i¡¯ll be fifteen and an adult.¡± Seeing that Sans didn¡¯t have any deep wounds left behind by the demon continent, at least nothing he couldn¡¯t cope with himself Jessica resumed smiling. ¡°Still that''s considerably young you''re just as old as my youngest son.¡± Sans was a little happy to be cared about but still just shook it off as a habit, he had learned not to let people in too close. ¡°Then I have to go back to doing knight things.¡± With that he directed Flice to charge at the remaining crew members and began changing the deadlock that the battle had become. From the back Captain Jessica had a saddened face while looking at Sans smiling and laughing at his opponents bewildered faces. ¡°That boy, even if he is going to be fifteen, he¡¯s still too young to be able to do what he¡¯s doing¡ Well if he was in the demon continent he must have had a rough life.¡± The captain had a soft spot for children and would attack any ship that carried slaves. At first she had attacked the ship to rescue Mark but hearing Sans speak of how he got onto the ship she knew that it carried child slaves. As a mother of a couple of children, with one being about ten years old she couldn¡¯t stand to see children treated as things. Even if they were children of other races. With no longer any reservation for attacking the cargo ship she ordered her best men to capture or kill any advanced ranked crew members along with any of the crew¡¯s important members. In a few moments the major obstacles stopping the pirates disappeared. while they were finishing up Sans decided that he would go inform the rest of the children and have them go with the pirates as they would be able to help them more than himself. While on the way Sans suddenly asked something. ¡°Do we know how to actually make Flice stronger¡± The voices in his head didn¡¯t reply right away and instead began to think, the first to speak was the crazed voice. ¡°We could teach it dragon magic, we couldn¡¯t learn it because we suck at magic but this sheep is strongly good at it.¡± ¡°I agree dragon magic might work depending on the intelligence of the golden sheep wolf. You could also modify your technique to work for her body structure but that might take some time.¡± Sans nodded, he was indeed no good at magic even now that he had become the [Chained Abyss] he would rely solely on his physical strength. ¡°Okay¡ Flice I''m going to teach you two things. First is dragon magic, because I''m no good with magic all I can give you is the theory and a rough explanation along with some spells. The second is a body strengthening technique but modified for a sheep wolf, although using it will hurt and stop you from doing much the first couple of days.¡± Hearing this Flice nodded she didn¡¯t care if a technique hurt and dragons were considered the kings of monsters so she couldn¡¯t be happier to learn their techniques and spells. ¡°Good then from now on we travel together, as grand Knights, I''m going to need something other than being [Chained Abyss]. Oh but don¡¯t tell anyone or teach this to anyone.¡± ¡°I don¡¯t think it can. But letting it know is okay I guess. More importantly and what I should have asked first, how do you know Dragon magic?¡± ¡°Ah well a couple of the one who joined in with us knew dragon magic one was even half dragon.¡± After this everyone stayed silent until they reached the location with the children. Upon seeing the ¡°majesty¡± of Flice they were all excited beyond words and would cuddle up next to her in turns. ¡°Well everyone listen, I''ve met the captain so you should be safe and returned somewhere nice. You could even become the next group of good pirates. Now everyone follow Flice to the top!¡± With Flice at the front and Sans taking up the rear the group advanced. Next to Sans was Mark. ¡°Ah you found her, well taking her and subduing her somehow I have to thank you otherwise getting her to transfer to our ship would be impossible.¡± Sans agreed with this, if he didn¡¯t have a good amount of experience with dealing with magical beast he would have also tried to subdue her with force. ¡°Haha it was nothing plus we¡¯re partners, I didn¡¯t subdue her. Anyway your captain seems nice and she¡¯s pretty. But i¡¯m going to have to ask if you and your crew can leave me and Flice on the goddess continent?¡± ¡°Sure that shouldn¡¯t be a problem, by the way wouldn''t you consider joining us for a while it could be good and you might gain more things than just a golden furred sheep wolf, how about it?¡± Sans shook his head. ¡°Nay I have some things that have to be done plus I haven¡¯t been back there in a while I might find something more interesting.¡± With that said the group reached the top and looked to the Crew who had been tied up. The captain had already been killed by Sans so the highest ranking member there was the vice captain. It was easy to spot him due to the nice sailor clothes he was wearing and next to him seemed to be a number of advance ranked crewmembers. When the children came up Jessica glared at the group. ¡°See this is what you were transporting and this is why we attacked. For those of you who had nothing to do with this then I''ll let you off as you should still be able to make it back to the demon continent with the provisions on board. But for those of you who knew well that''s a differ the story.¡± While what she said hadn¡¯t been entirely true she was now more than justified for her attack on the cargo ship. ¡°I¡¯m the vice captain and I can tell you that they were not on our ship and either way you can¡¯t prove anything. If you want an excuse for actions then I don¡¯t care just do what you will.¡± While he might have sounded proud and right the vice captain had a cold sweat running down his back at the fact that they had found the children. He was only acting in such a way so that they would spare his life. ¡°Well I will not be the judge of that, instead I have this.¡± After she finished speaking, Jessica took out a green orb from behind her coat, when she did the vice captain''s face turned pale. ¡°Ah you know what this little truth ball is, well for those of you who don¡¯t it turns red when someone lies. So, who¡¯s first? Is it the righteous vice captain?¡± With nothing else and knowing he would likely die the vice captain broke out laughing. ¡°... Well then I guess this is the grave of us all¡ It was a nice run.¡± Then the captain let out a loud whistle. ¡°That was for one of the dogs to cut a rope that will release a large amount of blood into the ocean, but not just any kind of blood!¡± While he was speaking the calm waves began to turn violent. ¡°It¡¯s the blood of a baby sea devil!¡± When he spoke everyone panicked and ran for the pirate ship that was ready to set sail. But they were today one tenth all after another, four in all, came out of the water grasping the the ship. ¡°That¡¯s a big one I think we¡¯re going to have to do it to live! Yes something to bring us closer!¡± Knowing that it was right Sans sighed and looked at all those around him. ¡°Everyone I''m going to call someone much more frightening than that if you wanna live close your eyes and look down!!!¡± With that he let out a great roar, his clothes tore and the sound of chains rattling resounded in everyone¡¯s head. They knew what was coming, everyone knew the stories, [Chained Abyss]. With it on it¡¯s way and the child who could somehow bring it out standing before them everyone but Flice who didn¡¯t know what was happening closed their eyes and put their heads down. Sans began to transform from his back appeared metal wings made of a large number of chains, his height increased making him resemble an adult of at least nineteen years old, and his hair became the darkest shade of black almost seeming to take in and eat the surrounding light. ¡°Ahhh we didn¡¯t want to do this but you forced us! Now petty creature of the sea prepare to die!¡± (Autor''s note: so I said Mondays and here it is. This is going to be more lighthearted despite the more or less dark backround and history of the main and some of the surounding cast. Anyway for a more serious story try my other work A gladiator''s New World http://royalroadl.com/fiction/5687 please check it out and read it if you like the first couple of chapters. Thank you:) Gonna rewright this So I had some issues and now I''m sorta back. I''m gonna drop my other works and rewrite this one in a different way but it''ll have a similar base might get rid of the voices in his head as it was an idea I had after playing the dead pool game but was hard to implement. But I will do something similar.
