《Blinker》 Chapter 1: Fish The last thing I remember is sleeping on my comfortable bed. And for some reason I woke up to find this screen in front of me: Name: Rane Coult Level: 1 HP: 10 Strength: 4 Agility: 6 Dexterity: 4 Stamina: 5 Intelligence: 5 Luck: 3 Skills: N/A ¡°W-What the hell?... What the hell is this?¡± What was in front of me? Where did this screen appear from? I looked around and saw that I was at the end of a beautiful lake with amazing clear waters. I was taken aback by the scenery. ¡®Well¡ I¡¯m clearly not at home. Is this a dream?¡¯ *Smack* ¡®Nope. Not a dream.¡¯ ¡°Where am I?¡± I spoke to myself as I looked down at myself and saw that I was smaller than I used to be. ¡°Huh?¡± My hands looked smaller¡ I walked up to the edge of the lake and looked at my reflection in the water. I turned into a child. A 13 year-old-ish child. I was 18 the last time I checked, which was last night and in summer break before I went off to college. I looked pretty cute in my opinion. (No homo) I looked pretty average before and I used to have brown hair and wore glasses because of my bad eye sight. Now I can see perfectly fine without them and I have black hair, blue eyes (pretty weird combination) and looked sort of skinny. I looked at the screen that was still next to me and I tried to make it move or disappear. I simply thought of it disappearing and it did and when I willed it to appear, it appeared. ¡°Woah¡ this is some next level shit. Is this virtual reality? Did I die and reincarnate?¡± I took a look at my screen again: Name: Rane Coult Level: 1 HP: 10 Strength: 4 Agility: 6 Dexterity: 4 Stamina: 5 Intelligence: 5 Luck: 3 Skills: N/A ¡®Man¡ these are some shitty stats. I¡¯m hella weak, well¡ at least my name is still the same. Wait¡ if this some sort of game like world, then¡ is it possible¡ to learn magic?¡¯ I first made a list of what to do in this new world after I calmed down and assessed my situation. 1) Try to find a way back home and if I can¡¯t who cares? Earth was shitty anyway. I was going to crippling debt because of college¡ and Trump might become president so I don¡¯t mind starting a new life here. 2) Try to find out where I am and meet some of the natives in this world and get to know it better. 3) Learn magic and become super OP and maybe rule the world. If I¡¯m correct then there is the possibility of me becoming extremely powerful and I can increase my levels to gain more points and allocate them and become stronger. How come there is no experience bar? How am I supposed to know how many goblins and shit I have to kill before I level up? I¡¯ve played a few RPG games before and it¡¯s really easy to level up in the beginning but it gets gradually harder. But it usually evens out with some epic quests that give you bonus exp. and rare items. *Stomach noises* I realized I was starving and needed to find some food if I wanted to survive. I guess I¡¯ll put that first on my list for now. Love this story? Find the genuine version on the author''s preferred platform and support their work! I walked around the lake and saw some trout. (I think it¡¯s trout don¡¯t really know what kind of fish it is¡) I slowly entered the cold lake water and walked knee deep into the lake where the fish were swimming. ¡°Okay¡ I can do this.¡± ¡°Ha!¡± I moved my hands as swiftly as I possibly could in this new body in an attempt to catch the fish. The result was pretty obvious. I failed. The fish were too quick for me and I just fell into the water. Well, that was pretty stupid of me. After several more failed attempts I went back to shore and looked for some tools to aid me in catching fish. I found a stick that was about a meter long and found a somewhat sharp rock and used to it sharpen the stick into a decent looking spear in my opinion. I went back into the lake and quickly found some fish and waded over to them. This time I had some confidence in being able to catch one and decided to act with patience. I waited and stayed still for a long time before the trout-like fish were willing to swim next to my feet. I stabbed down with the spear with all my strength and as accurately as possible. I very quickly saw blood mixing with the water and I shouted with joy. ¡°Yes!¡± I went back to shore with my prize back to gut it with the sharp rock from before. It was bloody work I¡¯ll tell you that. It smelled pretty bad too. When I finished, I left the fish on a rock and went to look for some wood and try leaves to start a fire. Because there was no flint and stone I had no choice but to create enough friction with the wood and light a fire that way. I was able to gather enough dry leaves and twigs and made a small pile next to the shore. I grabbed my two pieces of wood. One with a rectangular, block shape and the other a long stick. I made a small hole in the block wood so that when I began spinning the thin stick on it, it wouldn¡¯t go around everywhere. I began spinning the wood on the block and pretty soon (15 minutes¡) smoke began to appear. I took the charcoal that was accumulated and put it on the pile of dry leaves and twigs and slow blew into it. ¡°Haha! I did it!¡± I was quite proud of myself, although I think I had a couple splinters in my hands it was worth it. I inwardly thanked youtube and the man who made the video on how to make fire in the wild. I was also glad that I remembered this useless crap. Who knew it would come in handy one day? I stuck the fish onto a stick and began cooking it. Pretty soon I had a nicely cooked fish to eat. I finished the fish and there was only the head and tail left. The fish was about the size of two adult hands put together so it was actually a pretty decent size and left me quite satisfied. Suddenly, I heard a rustling in the bushes behind me. ¡°Gegageege¡ keke¡± ¡°Huh?¡± I turned around and looked. It was either a seriously deformed kid that had a skin color disfiguration or a goblin. ¡°Skreee!¡± Yup a goblin. Chapter 2: Level Up! I am currently running for my life from the goblin, or should I say ¡°goblins¡±. My plan didn¡¯t go as I expected¡ I didn¡¯t have a plan¡ When the goblin first emerged from the bushes I was stunned but I quickly regained my composure because this was a game world. The goblin seemed surprise to seem also but it soon began to snarling at me. ¡®Shit¡ it must have smelled the scent of cooking fish and followed it here. I should have been more careful.¡¯ We circled each other slowly and the goblin kept on making aggressive faces at me and was snarling. I held my wooden spear so tight that my knuckles went white. I have to admit that I was pretty scared facing this monster in front of me. I mean, it was about as tall as I was and had sharp teeth, pointy ears, greenish skin, and sharp claws. It looked like a rabid human, kind of. I could smell that it hadn¡¯t bathed it days¡ or probably its entire life and it was only wearing a loincloth that barely concealed anything. So I could see its nasty bulge. ¡°Guaa!¡± The goblin came at me with its hands raised and I kind of panicked, not expecting it to charge at me so unexpectedly. ¡°Ah!¡± Startled, I closed my eyes and I blindly thrust my spear forward and I felt little resistance and heard a disgusting *squish*. I opened my eyes and looked into the eyes of the goblin. The light dimmed and it uttered some guttural sounds before it fell to the ground. *Ding!* A small bell-like noise came out but I ignored it and I stared blankly at the corpse of the goblin. *Rustle* ¡°Gigi Ga?¡± Three more goblins that looked similar to the one I just killed on accident emerged from the bushes. ¡°Oh, hey, what¡¯s up guys? Oh! This here, is a complete misunderstanding¡ It¡¯s an accident¡ yeah¡ He scared me and I¡ uh..¡± ¡°Gyah!!¡± Luckily, I still had the mental capacity to figure out that I was outnumbered and would probably be butchered by them so I did the most rational thing that my brain could think of that the moment: Run. And here I am, at the entrance of a cave that I found near the lake that was behind some trees. I was able to somehow outrun those green monsters and entered the cave. Hopefully they don¡¯t find me here. A screen suddenly popped up in front of me. [You have entered the Lakeside Dungeon ¡î¡î¡î] [As the first person to discover this dungeon, a special reward will be given after completion] "Wut" I was seriously confused at what just happened. I tried to exit the cave but an invisible barrier prevented me from exiting. Did I just screw myself over? ¡®What the hell do those stars mean that are next to the name of the dungeon? Is it the difficulty level or the rarity level?¡¯ Whatever, I just needed to conquer this dungeon right? How hard could it be? I realized that there was another screen that was floating around me, but I didn¡¯t notice it because I was too busy running for my This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report itlife. [Level up!] [3 unallocated points] ¡°Huh?¡± I opened up my status menu and saw that my level and HP went up and I had three unallocated points for usage. Name: Rane Coult Level: 2 HP: 12 Strength: 4 Agility: 6 Dexterity: 4 Stamina: 5.5 Intelligence: 5 Luck: 3 Skills: N/A Unallocated points: 3 How come I only received three extra points? Isn¡¯t it usually supposed to be five? What difficulty is this on? This sucks. I poured all of my unused points into agility so my agility went up to nine from six. The reason being, is because I thought that it would obviously make me faster so that I could get away from those goblins if I ever meet them in the future. ¡°Wait¡ why did my stamina go up by .5?¡± I saw that there was another blue screen that I didn¡¯t notice again and it said that my stamina rose by .5. I guess it¡¯s because of the intense running I did to escape from the goblins. I speculated that there were ways to increase my stats without leveling up. But I ran till I ran out of breath and I only gained a measly .5 in stamina. It must be hard to increase stats¡ Because I had nothing to do and was stuck in this dungeon I decided to explore it. I mean, what else could I do? The cave was pretty dark but my eyes were able to adjust in a few moments. As soon as I took my first step my foot went through the ground as if there was nothing there and I fell. ¡°Woah!¡± Somehow, I was able to hold onto the ledge with my reflexes and avoided falling into the trap. I glanced down and saw that it was a two meter fall and there were multiple, sharp wooden spikes that were standing erect from the ground. *Gulp* With adrenaline pumping through my veins, I managed to pull myself up from the trap hole and was gasping for breath. That was a seriously close call. That was the closest that I¡¯ve come to dying in this world and I really doubt that I can respawn and I don¡¯t want to experiment with that. I¡¯ve never missed home as much as I do now. After resting for a few minutes I got back up and decided to jump over the hole. It was only a meter long so it wasn¡¯t really a problem for me if I had a running start. I realized that my body felt a little bit lighter and faster than before. Maybe those three points that I put into agility really worked? This time I was more careful of where I stepped and I actually found some rocks on the ground and grabbed a handful of them and occasionally threw them in front of me while I walked to make sure that there were no traps that I fell into. Luckily, my caution paid off because a trap went off and this time it was into a swarm of snakes, all of whom I was sure were poisonous. I was able to bypass this trap also. Soon I came across a large room that was filled with something I didn¡¯t expect: slimes. Chapter 3: Snake Slayer Slimes. Slimes everywhere. Short little, bright green blobs that reach up to my knees filled the entire room. There were at least 50 of them by my estimate. For some reason they didn¡¯t charge at me like I expected. Instead they minded their own business and just sort of moved around like jello. I noticed that there were small little green balls inside of their see-through bodies. I assumed that that was their weak point. I still had my rocks in hand and so I took one and threw one at the nearest slime with the best accuracy as I could at the core in side of its body. *Plop* The rock didn¡¯t even get close to the nucleus as it just floated inside of the slime. As if enraged, the slime looked in the direction where rock as thrown. Wait, can slimes even see? Anyway, it began charging at me like a madman and it jumped up towards me as if it was going to attack me. The slime was surprisingly quick and I was able to barely dodge its lunge at me. I quickly ran away and exited the room. The slime stopped chasing me after I left the room, which confirmed that the slimes most likely couldn¡¯t exit the room or they didn¡¯t want to. And I didn¡¯t want to push them so far as to force them to come out the room. Currently, the biggest problem is getting out of this dungeon and the only way to do that is to get stronger. So I need to level up and increase my stats. I looked around the cave and the only thing I saw were rocks. Suddenly a flash of inspiration went through my mind. This method is guaranteed to get me quick EXP. Although there is no EXP bar, I¡¯m pretty sure I¡¯ll get some gains from this. For my plan I needed rocks. Lots and lots of rocks. After roughly half an hour of finding and gathering all the big rocks that I could find, I put them in a pile next to where the snake pit was. ¡®Hehe¡ I¡¯m such a genius. Here goes nothing.¡¯ ¡°Umph!¡± I lifted up a big rock that weighed at least 20 pounds and dropped it in the snake pit. *Hiss!* Several snakes shrieked in pain as I dropped the rock on them and I almost felt bad. Almost. This was for my survival so they needed to be sacrificed for me. It took me another 15 minutes before I a notification came up, saying that I gained one point in strength which made me happy. I had about half of my pile of rocks left and there were plenty of snakes so I kept on going. Pretty soon another notification came up notifying me that I leveled up. [Level Up!] [Please distribute 3 Points] I opened my status menu and looked at my stats. Name: Rane Coult Level: 3 HP: 14 Strength: 5 Agility: 9 Dexterity: 4 Stamina: 5.5 Intelligence: 5 Luck: 3 Skills: N/A Unallocated points: 3 This time, I decided to put in two points into stamina and one point into agility to get it up to ten and so my stats looked like this now: Name: Rane Coult Level: 3 HP: 14 Strength: 5 Agility: 10 Dexterity: 4 Stamina: 7.5 Intelligence: 5 Luck: 3 Skills: N/A Hmm¡ it seems like my HP only goes up by two points each time I level up. I wonder if there is any way to have a greater increase in HP? I knew that there were probably other ways to increase my stats by training but I had no idea how to increase my HP without leveling up and using points. But never mind. I decided to focus on the job and hand and continued dropping the rocks on the snakes and watched them shriek in pain and die. Pretty soon, I ran out of rocks and I think I killed all of the snakes and I gained a .5 increase in strength by the time I was done. *Ding* A notification came up. [You have gained the Title: Snake Slayer] Interesting¡ you can gain titles in this world. I looked at the description of the title. [Snake Slayer] [For killing 100 or more snakes you gain increase damage towards snakes and +1 Agility and +1 Intelligence. All snakes you meet will have increased aggression and hate towards you.] Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings. Woah. This was pretty neat. I gained extra stats. I guess gaining a title was pretty beneficial. I didn¡¯t really care for the disadvantages of this title because I was probably going to kill all the snakes I met in the future for EXP anyway. With that done I realized how thirsty I was but ignored it and got a rock and returned to the room where the slimes were. I began to observe the slimes and their behaviors. Nothing really stood out until I noticed the one slime I threw a rock at. I noticed that the rock I threw was definitely smaller than before. ¡®Shit¡ these things are acidic. They can probably decompose anything that enters their body.¡¯ My back was covered in cold sweat as I realized how much of a close call I had back then when I taunted the slime. It could have melted my face off¡ I exited the slime room and went back to the entrance of the cave and I saw that the pitfall trap, where the spikes were at the bottom concealed itself again and I threw a rock and saw that it was still there. I waited and saw that after about 10 minutes the trap concealed itself again. I still couldn¡¯t exit the dungeon but another Idea struck through my head. I gathered a pile of small rocks and made a line at the edge of the trap so I know where to jump. ¡®I hope this works¡¡¯ ¡°Hey! You stupid goblins! I can¡¯t believe you still haven¡¯t found me yet! You guys are so retarded! I mean even I would have found this cave!¡± I shouted with all my might from outside of the cave and hoped that the barrier didn¡¯t have any adverse effects where it didn¡¯t allow any sound to pass through. My worries vanished because soon the three goblins from before came into view. And when they saw me the shrieked and ran towards me in anger. I quickly ran back inside and when I reached the line of rocks I jumped with all of my might over the pitfall trap and safely made it on the other side. The goblins however seemed a bit cautious when first entering the cave. They must have gotten the notification that they entered a dungeon but I taunted them, yelling out insults and the snarled and one of them that was holding a makeshift spear threw it at me. Luckily it was a bad throw and had horrible accuracy, so I didn¡¯t need to move that much in order to dodge it. They all rushed towards me and I stood standing right where I was. When they reached the line of rocks and didn¡¯t show any indication of stopping I knew I won. All three goblins fell into the trap and were impaled by the spikes and died immediately. A ding sound was heard and I saw that I leveled up and I gained the wisdom stat which was a nice surprise for me but it wasn¡¯t particularly useful in this situation. Looks like my experiment was a success. It seems like I don¡¯t need to directly kill the monsters. I just need to be the cause or something like that. I happily opened my stat menu to distribute my stats. Name: Rane Coult Title: Snake Slayer Level: 4 HP: 16 Strength: 5 Agility: 10 +1 Dexterity: 4 Stamina: 7.5 Intelligence: 5+1 Luck: 3 Wisdom: 1 Skills: N/A Unallocated Points: 3 This time I put all of my points into strength and brought it up to eight. My goal was to have all of my stats up to 10. I wanted to be a well-balanced individual. That was how I usually liked to play RPG type games. I grabbed the spear that the dead goblin threw and inspected it. It was certainly better than the spear that I made before as it had a sharp rock as the tip and it was a bit smoother so I wouldn¡¯t get any splinters. Now that I have this weapon I think I¡¯ll take a shot at the slimes. ------------------ Hope you enjoyed the chapter! Let me know if I made any mistakes! Please comment, follow and rate if you like my story! I might push out more chapters if more of you do! Chapter 4: Dungeon Master I entered the slime room again. I held my spear in my left hand and a rock in my right. ¡°Whew, I hope this works.¡± I threw the rock randomly at a slime nearby and that enraged it and it charged at me. I quickly ran away from it but not too fast so as to give it some false hope of catching me. When I exited the room I made sure to stay in front of the entrance and sure enough, the slime exited the room and chased after me. I ran towards the snake pit and stopped right in front of it. The slime soon reached me and it leapt towards me, aiming for my chest. I was nimbly dodged and it fell straight into the snake pit. ¡°Ha ha! Got¡¯em!¡± The slime seemed to have noticed that it fell into the trap so it attempted to jump high enough to escape but unfortunately for it, it couldn¡¯t and was stuck there. Now I grabbed some rocks that were lying around and threw them at the slime. These rocks weren¡¯t as big as the rocks that I used to crush the snakes and were easier to throw and I had more accuracy with them. I missed a few times but every time a rock entered the slime it got slower and heavier which made it an easier target for me. Soon its entire body was full of rocks and it couldn¡¯t even move. I jumped down into the snake pit which was filled with the bodies of dead snakes with spear in hand. The snake pit was only about two meters deep so I was sure that I would be able to pull myself out of it. I cautiously walked towards the slime. I poked it with my spear and it just jiggled a little and made no response. This time I stuck my spear deep into its body and found its core and stabbed it with the spear. The slime stopped moving and all of the thick jello-like liquid (which was its body) that was holding all the rocks inside just splashed into the ground and disappeared. The rocks scattered onto the ground and there were no signs of a slime ever being there except for the ground being wet. This entire process took roughly five minutes from the chasing to the killing. I jumped up and lifted myself from the edge of the pit and got out and headed back into the slime room. ¡®Sigh¡ this is gonna take forever.¡¯ I thought as I saw the amount of slimes inside of the room. The process was repeated dozens of times I lost count. But it was not without gains. By the 10th slime I got pretty good at throwing rocks. Around the 15th slime I leveled up to level five and got three stat points but I didn¡¯t spend them and wanted to use them after I finished off all of the slimes. After the 40th slime died, a notification came up saying that I learned the [Throw] skill. Ecstatic I opened up its description. [Throw ¡î] [Because of you increased accuracy in throwing you now do increased damage whenever you throw a projectile] Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on Royal Road. ¡®That¡¯s it? That¡¯s all I get for throwing rocks for over an hour?¡¯ I mean I was kind happy that I got a skill but¡. It was kinda lame¡ It had one star¡ so I¡¯m assuming that this is the lowest tier of skill or it is extremely common. Anyway, I think it was about 56 slimes that I got rid of and by the end of that I leveled up again, which made me level six. Name: Rane Coult Title: Snake Slayer Level: 6 HP: 20 Strength: 8 Agility: 10 +1 Dexterity: 4 Stamina: 7.5 Intelligence: 5+1 Luck: 3 Wisdom: 1 Skills: N/A Unallocated Points: 6 This time I put in three points into stamina and two points into strength and one point into dexterity. This made my stats looks like this: Name: Rane Coult Title: Snake Slayer Level: 6 HP: 20 Strength: 10 Agility: 10 +1 Dexterity: 5 Stamina: 10.5 Intelligence: 5+1 Luck: 3 Wisdom: 1 Skills: N/A I am putting in my stat points into physical stuff rather than mental because this will make me more likely to survive in the moment. I followed the path that led outside of the slime room and I found a treasure chest. Excited, I quickly ran towards the chest and opened. It surprisingly didn¡¯t have any locks and I opened with ease. All that was inside of the chest was an iron knife that looked to be expertly crafted, a small book with extraordinary detail, and a small note that was written with excellent handwriting. I first read the small note. Dear Adventurer, Congratulations and defeating the first floor! I am the Dungeon Master. Because you are the first adventurer to visit my dungeon, I am naturally quite excited. You have been extremely entertaining and have showed great ingenuity so I am gifting you a skillbook. Here¡¯s a tip. You can leave the dungeon after you complete the third floor. I look forward to how you progress. Also, if you can do me a favor. After you leave, (If you can leave LOL) Inform the world of my existence so that I have some more people to play around with. I have been incredibly bored these past 57 years because no one has been visiting my dungeon. Sincerely, Dungeon Master. Well¡ that was interesting¡ so I¡¯m being watch by some pedophile that has been jerking off in his room waiting for people to kill in his dungeon for the past 57 years¡ and I¡¯m the first? Woohoo¡ I¡¯m shouting for joy. Anyway¡ I guess I¡¯m thankful for the dungeon master for giving me this skill book. I¡¯m pretty sure these are quite rare. Now, I¡¯m just hoping that this skill isn¡¯t trash. I opened the skill book and a notification came up. [Would you like to learn the skill [Blink ¡î¡î¡î¡î]?] Chapter 5: Blink! [Would you like to learn the skill [Blink ¡î¡î¡î¡î]?] Hell yeah I would! I mean, come one, who wouldn¡¯t want to learn this? It better not be something stupid like helping me actually blind cause that would be fucking stupid. I¡¯m pretty sure I¡¯m a master at blinking. The skill book disappeared and a screen came up with the description of the skill. [Blink ¡î¡î¡î¡î] [Allows the user to move one meter away from their current position in any direction. Requires 10 mana per usage. User may expend 10 extra MP for an extra meter traveled.] Woah¡. Isn¡¯t this¡ hella OP? Wait¡ but I don¡¯t have mana. Or does my stat menu just not show it? Whatever, I¡¯m just gonna do it. I technically didn¡¯t really know how to activate this skill. For [Throw ¡î] I just threw rocks and I just hit whatever I aimed at and I wasn¡¯t really sure if it was my own skill or the skill was assisting me. I just willed myself to magically move one meter in front of me. I felt myself being drained of energy and suddenly I felt an indescribable rush, like I was on a roller coaster and I found myself a meter away from my previous spot. ¡°Woah... That was epic.¡± *Ding* [You have discovered mana by using a special skill [Blink ¡î¡î¡î¡î] I opened the menu and saw that MP was added next to my HP and I only had 17 MP. Because I used [Blink] just now I only had seven MP left. Damn, because of my small mana pool I could only use [Blink] once in fight, which would probably be enough to get behind my enemy and finish them off by stabbing them in the back. But it wouldn¡¯t be useful if there was more than one opponent unless I had a lot more mana. I slowly waited for my MP bar to fill up. I noticed that it took roughly five freaking minutes for one mana point to regenerate. That is simply ridiculous. So I had to wait 15 minutes before I had enough mana to use [Blink] again. I really need a way to gain more mana. There was a stairway that led downstairs deeper into the dungeon. If what the Dungeon Master said was true and he wasn¡¯t leading me into a trap, then I could get out of this place by the third floor. But I¡¯m pretty sure that the monsters get stronger and more dangerous the deeper I go so I have to be careful. If anything I¡¯ll just come back up to the first floor if things go bad. Plus, I have my new [Blink] skill as a trump card to escape, and I¡¯m pretty sure this knife will come in handy. It¡¯s made of better material than this crappy goblin spear but I¡¯m still gonna keep it just in case. I made up my mind and descended down the dungeon. I was really starting to get hungry. The only thing I ate today was the fish I caught earlier during the day. God, that feels like an eternity ago. I can¡¯t believe I killed four goblins, a hundred snakes and dozens of slimes, in just ONE DAY! You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author. I could have never imagined doing this in the previous world. In fact, this is the most productive I¡¯ve been since I graduated high school. When I finally reached the 2nd floor, the horrible stench hit me like a semi-truck. The smell of rotten meet and other disgusting things that I couldn¡¯t describe filled my nostrils and I almost puked. I was wary of my surroundings and proceeded cautiously. *Moan* I heard a moan coming up from in front of me. And it wasn¡¯t one of those pleasurable moans when people are having sex¡ not that I would know *ahem*, porn, *ahem*. Their figure gradually became clearer the closer they got and the smell got more intense also. Zombies. Those were the godforsaken monsters that decided to show up this time. Maggots were eating their brains and rotting pieces of skin and muscle were hanging off of them. Surprisingly they weren¡¯t as slow as I imagined zombies would be. They weren¡¯t limping either. They were walking just fine. Luckily there were only two of them and once they saw me they moaned even louder and their speed increased to a somewhat light jog. I gripped the spear tightly with my left hand and held my new knife in my right and readied myself for my possible death. The zombies both lunged at me and I sidestepped to the one on the left and stabbed it with my spear straight into its neck. There was no blood as I pulled my spear out and the zombie just stared at me like it was a joke. How could I be so stupid and forget that the only way to kill zombies is by stabbing them in the brain? They both lunged at me again and I moved backwards and while slashing them with my knife and poking them with my spear. Bits and pieces of their hands and arms were splattered on the ground and I was getting tired but I found my chance and cut off the hand of the zombie on the right. But it didn¡¯t seem to deter them at all and I was starting to panic. I felt like I had no choice and I finally decided to use [Blink] when one of the zombies got too close for comfort and I suddenly appeared behind them as I felt my mana draining again. I quickly turned around and stabbed one of the zombies in the back of the head with my spear and with increased urgency I stabbed the other one in the base of the neck where the spine was with my knife. They both fell down to the ground and I too fell to my knees gasping for breath. ¡®Shit¡ this is fucking crazy. How am I gonna get out of here?¡¯ -------------------------------------- Thanks for reading the chapter! Hope you enjoyed it. Please notify me if you find any errors. Chapter 6: Escape I woke up on the stairs of the dungeon where it connected to the 2nd floor and my back was aching. I decided to take a break after I finished off the two zombies from earlier and rested on the stairs. I closed my eyes to rest and I was passed out before I knew it. I opened up my status and saw that my MP was full. My stomach grumbled in protest but there was nothing to eat around here. I ignored the rumbling of my stomach and went to explore the dungeon. I didn¡¯t want to make the same mistake as I did in the first floor with the pitfall traps, so I took a few rocks and threw them in front of me every 10 steps or so just in case there was a trap like before. Soon enough I met another zombie. But this time this one was alone. The zombie noticed me when I got closer and it shrieked in excitement as it rushed towards me. I had no problem dealing with one zombie. I [Blinked] behind it and stabbed the back of its neck with my knife and that was it. The zombie fell to the ground, unable to move and I finished it off by stabbing it in the head with my spear. *Ding* [Level Up] I opened my status menu. Name: Rane Coult Title: Snake Slayer Level: 7 HP: 22/22 MP: 18/18 Strength: 10 Agility: 10 +1 Dexterity: 5 Stamina: 10.5 Intelligence: 5+1 Luck: 3 Wisdom: 1 Skills: [Throw ¡î] [Blink ¡î¡î¡î¡î] Unallocated Points: 3 Hmm¡ so my MP goes up by one point every time I level up and it refills also. That¡¯s good to know. The thing I need most is MP right now because that allows me to use [Blink] more times. I experimented by putting one point into intelligence but that didn¡¯t do anything. Then I put in one point into wisdom. I saw that my MP rose by one when I put a point into wisdom which made my MP 19. So wisdom and mana are correlated. I decided to put in my last remaining point into wisdom so now my stats looked like this. Name: Rane Coult Title: Snake Slayer Level: 7 HP: 22/22 MP: 20/20 Strength: 10 Agility: 10 +1 Dexterity: 5 Stamina: 10.5 Intelligence: 6+1 Luck: 3 Wisdom: 3 Skills: [Throw ¡î] [Blink ¡î¡î¡î¡î] I cautiously went around the second floor, making sure not to run into large groups of zombies. Whenever I found a lone zombie I used [Blink] and finished them off quickly. But of course, when I ran out of mana I waited for almost 100 minutes. I noticed that because I put more points into wisdom, my mana regen went up and it now took about four minutes and fifty seconds for a point of mana to recover. Because I didn¡¯t know what time it was I just took small naps while waiting for my mana to regenerate and I never got too tired. But hunger was the only thing that kept on bothering me. After I killed my 10th zombie I leveled up to level eight and put in more points into wisdom. Now my wisdom is at six points so my MP went up to 24 because I got one from my level up and my mana regen also increased. While I was exploring the second floor, I found that there weren¡¯t any traps on this floor or any other monsters, only zombies. Maybe it¡¯s because the zombies were too stupid and would fall into the traps, is why there were no traps set by the Dungeon Master. I entered a room and saw another set of stairs leading down to the third floor. This time there wasn¡¯t any special chest with a reward for completing the floor but I didn¡¯t care I just wanted to get out of this place and eat something. Overall, I spent over five hours on this floor (I think). When I reached the third floor, I saw that the scenery was different from the first two floors. The first two floors had a cave-like setting but the third floor had a forest-like setting and there were trees and sunlight. How the hell did sunlight shine in here? I walked around the third floor until I heard the sound of trickling water. Hopeful I followed where the sound was coming from and soon enough I came across a small stream. My spirits were lifted. I rushed towards the stream and brought my head down and took a big gulp of the water and drank until my stomach as full. ¡°Aah¡. That was nice.¡± I laid down on the ground and looked up at the blue sky. ¡®I seriously wonder how there is light here.¡¯ I got back up and saw black berries on the bushes to my right. I didn¡¯t know if they were poisonous or not so I was hesitant to pick them because I was already full from all the water that I drank. But I didn¡¯t know what might happen in the future so I picked a few berries and put them in my pockets. If their poisonous and I get into a bad situation where I know I¡¯ll die then I¡¯ll eat them with no regrets. But if they¡¯re not then good for me it won¡¯t matter. If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. I followed the stream that was going downhill and walked for roughly thirty minutes. During this time I didn¡¯t meet any monsters which I found incredibly strange, as I was on guard the entire time. The small stream gradually got bigger until I merged with a pond. I decided I needed to take bath so I took off my clothes and put them behind a large rock and I went to bathe in the pond. The water was cold but it felt absolutely amazing. I was covered in sweat and dirt so I rinsed myself and saw the clear water around me turning dark. *Ding* [Level Up] ¡°Huh? What the fuck?¡± I had no idea what the hell just happened. I rushed back to where my clothes were and I found two unidentifiable monsters lying there motionless. I saw black juices on their mouths and hands and realized what happened. ¡®These monsters ate my black berries¡ Sonuvabitch!¡¯ The two monsters had some sort of doglike features and sharp claws. From the looks of it they might have been scouts and have been following me. ¡®Are they¡ kobolds?¡¯ I didn¡¯t know and didn¡¯t care. I was too careless and berated myself for allowing this to happen and letting my guard down. ¡®I¡¯m in a dungeon, if I¡¯m not careful, I¡¯m going to die.¡¯ I put my clothes back on and left the two monster bodies where they were. I began my search for the way out like the Dungeon Master promised, but before that I decided to put in one point into agility, stamina and wisdom. I needed speed, stamina and more mana to escape from here. Name: Rane Coult Title: Snake Slayer Level: 7 HP: 24/24 MP: 26/26 Strength: 10 Agility: 11 +1 Dexterity: 5 Stamina: 11.5 Intelligence: 6+1 Luck: 3 Wisdom: 7 Skills: [Throw ¡î] [Blink ¡î¡î¡î¡î] I left the pond in search of the exit point and searched through the forest. I surprisingly didn¡¯t meet any monsters along the way, only a few small animals like rabbits and squirrels. I tried killing one of them by throwing my spear but they were too small and quick and got away. I traveled through the forest for over an hour before I heard crashing waves of water and I found a small waterfall. Next to the waterfall was a chest and I went inside the water and headed towards it. That was a big mistake. By the time I was waist deep in the pool and pretty close to the waterfall it was too late. An anaconda was lying in wait for me and it struck when I was least expecting it. It wrapped around me and constricted me before I knew what was happening. Let me tell you this, getting wrapped around by a 10-meter-long snake is not fun. It crushes your body and you suffocate and you try to breathe but you can¡¯t. I had no idea what just happened but I instinctively used blink as far as I can and I found myself in a cave. *Gasp, gasp, huff, huff* I hungrily gasped for air and breathed in and out quickly. Out of the corner of my eyes I saw that my HP went down to 12/24. Half of my health went down in a few seconds while that snake was crushing me. This was the closest to death that I¡¯ve ever come and I was terrified. Terrified of dying. I didn¡¯t know what would happen. Soon, I regained my senses and looked around. It turned out the cave that I was in was behind the waterfall. It looks like the snake just became confused that its next meal suddenly disappeared and stayed in the pool. I¡¯m just hoping it doesn¡¯t coming looking for me in here. I looked around the small cave and saw another chest. This time I was more cautious and threw some rocks around the area of the chest, but seeing that there was nothing I got closer and opened it. There were two things inside of the chest: a note and a large white egg with brown stripes the size of half a basketball. I took a look at the note. ¡°Surprise! I thought you would die for sure this time! But you proved me wrong! It started to get boring during the second floor so I prepared this trap just for you! But who knew you would survive! Anyway, don¡¯t forget about your promise when you leave. If you move the chest over there will be a magic circle underneath it. If you stand on top of it you will be transported it out of here. It was really fun meeting you! Hope to see you again!¡± -Dungeon Master I ain¡¯t ever coming back to this shitty place again. I grabbed the egg and crumpled up the note and threw it away. I moved the chest and saw the magic circle underneath and stood on top of it. Suddenly a blinding light shone from underneath me and I passed out. Chapter 7: Barnabas I¡¯m currently walking along a dirt road holding my egg on one hand and my spear in the other. My knife was tucked in my pants. I met an old man earlier who lived in these woods and he gave me a lot of information which I was quite grateful for. After I was passed out by the light from the magic circle, I awoke on the ground in front of the dungeon cave with my weapons and egg around me. I got up and surveyed my surroundings. Seeing that there was no immediate danger I took my items and went right. I mean I didn¡¯t really have a map or anything like that and I didn¡¯t know the area well, so I just went right. Walking while holding onto a large egg was really annoying. I contemplated eating it, but I didn¡¯t have a frying pan to make scrambled eggs. Considering its size it would make a huge meal. So I walked past trees. Lots and lots of trees. That was pretty much all there was to see. Luckily there were no monsters. I decided to take a break on a large rock. ¡®I¡¯m lost¡ I have no idea where the hell I am.¡¯ I looked around my surroundings and there was a downward slope and at the bottom of the hill of trees, there was a small wooden hut. Excited I quickly grabbed my things and rushed down to the hut. ¡®Hopefully there will be someone who can tell me some directions.¡¯ After five minutes of light jogging I reached the small hut. ¡°Hello? Is anyone there?¡± I called out. There was no response. I decided to go knock on the door. Right as I was about to knock a voice rang out. ¡°Get lost you brat! Gods be damned! I moved out here precisely so that no one would bother me. And what the hell happens? Someone manages to find me the very next day!¡± ¡°Um¡ sir? I think you have a misunderstanding¡ I¡¯m actually lost, and.. I don¡¯t know who you are¡¡± ¡°Huh? You don¡¯t know who I am? Impossible! Get lost kid! I¡¯m not signing any autographs.¡± ¡°What the fuck? You old fart! Screw you! I¡¯m seriously lost out here! I hope you fall down and break your spine!¡± With that I left. Whew¡ seriously¡ what the hell was up with that old man? I heard the door open behind me. ¡°You really lost kid?¡± I turned around. ¡°¡ Yeah¡¡± When he saw me he must have noticed how dirty my clothes were from the dungeon. ¡°Sigh¡ If you go in that direction, after roughly ten miles you¡¯ll come across a small town¡. Wait¡ How did you get that egg? That¡¯s a demon beast egg!¡± ¡°Hmm? Oh, this? I got it from a dungeon.¡± ¡°What do you mean you got it from a dungeon? There are no dungeons around here for miles!¡± ¡°Oh, I discovered it and I got this egg on the third floor.¡± ¡°How the hell did you manage to discover a dungeon? And why are you alone? Where the hell are your parents?¡± ¡°I told you, I¡¯m lost old man. As for my parents¡ I don¡¯t know. I don¡¯t remember anything.¡± ¡°You have amnesia?¡± ¡®Ah¡ the good ol¡¯ amnesia card. Hopefully this old man buys it and takes pity on me.¡¯ The old man¡¯s expression changed into uncertainty. ¡°Sigh¡ okay, why don¡¯t you come in and have some rest, then I¡¯ll send you off.¡± ¡®Sweet! It worked!¡¯ I entered his house and he told me sit on a chair. Then he brought me a bowl of porridge. It tasted quite plain, but considering I¡¯ve only had water to drink ever since I¡¯ve come to this world, I didn¡¯t complain and wolfed it all down. If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. I had two more bowls before I was satisfied. Seeing the content look on my face the old man asked what happened and I began telling him my made up story. ¡°Well it all started when I woke up in the forest¡¡± I proceeded to tell him about how I killed a goblin accidentally, got chased by goblins, and accidentally stumbled into a dungeon and how I escaped. Of course, I left out the part where I got [Blink] and the part where the Dungeon Master sent notes to me. This took a long time and by the time I was finished, it was already late in the afternoon. ¡°Well, I don¡¯t really know what to make of this story, but I believe you.¡± I inwardly sighed with relief. ¡°Wait, earlier you said this was a demon beast egg. What¡¯s that?¡± I asked. ¡°Oh, demon beasts just monsters that evolved and gained greater intelligence and strength than normal monsters. This demon beast egg must have been a reward from the dungeon. Anyway¡ I¡¯m gonna make dinner. You can leave tomorrow.¡± ¡®Y¡¯know, maybe this old man isn¡¯t that bad at all.¡¯ ¡°What¡¯s your name kid?¡± ¡°Huh? Oh, I¡¯m Rane, Rane Coult. What about you?¡± ¡°Heh, me? I¡¯m Barnabas.¡± Dinner was a simple meal of stew with some vegetables and some chewy meat with a piece of bread. During dinner I asked him questions about this world and how things were. ¡°The forest we¡¯re in is the forbidden lands between the human kingdom, Septom and the Greenwood Elves. Roughly 50 years ago, the kingdom of Septom coveted the resources and territory of the Greenwood Elves and declared war. The result was devastating defeat for the humans. The elves were enraged and forced the humans into submission with their deadly archers and capable magicians. The elves even marched straight into the capital of Septom and demanded tribute from the king. Septom used to be the strongest of all the seven human kingdoms but now it is the weakest. The news of this all across the seven kingdoms and now they are all wary of the might of the elves. The elves and the Septom Kingdom now have a peace treaty but they must give yearly tribute to the elves and the Septom Kingdom lost a huge chunk of their land. The forest that we¡¯re currently in is a part of the land that was taken away and Septom cannot set foot on here or they will risk the wrath of the elves once more. It wasn¡¯t until recently that the Adventurer Guild managed to make a deal with the elves, allowing adventurers to enter the land to take on missions, which is why I¡¯m hiding out here in the forest.¡± I gained a lot of information that was useful and I was thankful to old man Barnabas. I went to sleep with a lot on my mind and the next morning I set off. ¡°Hey kid, take this with you.¡± Barnabas gave me a bag filled with food and a map of the kingdom of Septom. My heart grew warm because of this act of kindness. Barnabas gave me, a complete stranger a place to stay and food. ¡°Also, if you go to the Adventurer¡¯s Guild and tell them that you discovered a dungeon, they will give you a reward. Here, take this letter too. Give it to a man named Renton and you won¡¯t have to go through much trouble. That bastard owes me.¡± I said my goodbye and Barnabas told me to get lost already. With a smile on my face I headed toward the town of Arton. Chapter 8: A new town It¡¯s late in the afternoon and I finally made it to the town of Arton. I was able to get in without any troubles. It looked like one of those late 17th century European towns from hundreds of years ago. It had a nice atmosphere and people were bustling about their daily lives. ¡°Excuse me sir? Would you happen to know where the Adventurer¡¯s guild is located?¡± I asked guard that was walking by. He gave me a suspicious look but he gave me the directions and I thanked and went on my way. Soon I came across a large building that was about three stories tall. I was kind of intimidated, seeing all these tough looking characters with fancy looking armor and weapons going in and out of the building while I looked pretty out of place. A thin, shabby looking kid holding a spear and an egg. But I gathered my courage and entered the building. The first floor was like a busy restaurant, adventurers were ordering, laughing and having a good time. There was a pretty lady behind the bar counter and I went up to her. Most of the people in here ignored me but I got a couple of strange looks and I ignored them. ¡°Excuse me miss, is there a person named Renton here?¡± Suddenly all the bustling noise and the good atmosphere disappeared. ¡®Shit¡ did Barnabas trick me?¡¯ The pretty girl looked up and me¡. Stunned. ¡°I¡¯m sorry, but the guild master is currently unavailable.¡± ¡°Um, I have a letter for him, could you give it to him?¡± I said as I took out the letter that Barnabas gave me and handed it to her. ¡°Of course, I will be right back.¡± Roughly five minutes later the pretty lady came back with a middle aged man that looked to be around his mid-forties. He was well muscled and had a pretty masculine beard if you asked me. ¡°Are you Rane kid?¡± He asked. ¡°Y-yes sir.¡± I replied timidly. He was bigger close up and I was a bit intimidated by his size. ¡°Follow me kid.¡± I obediently followed behind him and the adventurers behind us started whispering on what was going on. Renton led me all the way to the third floor and we came to a room with a desk and a few chairs. He gestured for me to sit and I sat on the chair directly across from his desk. ¡°So¡ from this letter that Barnabas wrote to me, you have amnesia?¡± ¡°Um¡ yes sir.¡± ¡°He also tells me that you discovered a dungeon.¡± ¡°Yes sir.¡± ¡°Why don¡¯t you tell me what happened.¡± And so I went over the tale of what happened since I woke up and couldn¡¯t remember anything. But of course, I once again left out the parts of where I obtained [Blink] and the Dungeon master sending notes to me. ¡°Hmm¡ okay kid, if what you¡¯re saying is true then you deserve a reward for discovering a new dungeon. Hold on, I¡¯m gonna get your reward.¡± A few moments later he came to me with a small brown bag about the size of two adult fists and threw it on the table. ¡°Here ya go. 100 silver fens. That should be enough to keep you alive for several months. Now if you don¡¯t have anything else, then you can leave.¡± ¡°Wait, but I don¡¯t know anything about this town. Also, how do I become an adventurer?¡± If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it. Being adventurer seemed like the best option to me right now and because Barnabas recommended me to Renton, my instinct told me that I can trust him. ¡°Well, you see kid. You¡¯re too young to be an adventurer, and you don¡¯t even have a class yet. How old are you?¡± ¡°I don¡¯t¡¯ know¡ I have amnesia. And what¡¯s a class?¡± ¡°Sigh¡ See? Classes are basically jobs. My class for example, is Knight and my level in that class is 74. There are many classes ranging from mages, archers and rogues, but those are just the basics.¡± ¡°Huh? Then what¡¯s the difference between your class level and your personal level?¡± ¡°Your personal level is exactly that, it doesn¡¯t interfere with your class level. It just basically tells you your own stats. Your class level is how proficient you are in your class and what skills you can learn from it and what other requirements you need to rank up to an even stronger class.¡± ¡°Then how do I get a class?¡± I asked. ¡°There are various places you can go to. You can go to the local lord and ask one of his knights to be apprenticed to them and become their squire. Then you will get the squire class and after you reach level 100 in that you can rank up to become a knight. To become a rogue you have to go to the Rogue Guild and be apprenticed to one of the rogues there and you¡¯ll start off as a thief.¡± ¡°What if I want to become a mage?¡± ¡°Ha! Finding a mage in this town is extremely unlikely. We only have on mage in this town and that old man killed most of his apprentices from his experiments that he does in his gods forsaken lab of his.¡± Well that crushed my dreams of being a mage. ¡°Are there certain benefits of being in a class? Can I have more than one class?¡± ¡°Of course there are benefits of being in a class, but that differs from each class. A rogue for example, has more speed and dexterity, while a mage has more mana and intelligence. You can have more than one class but they are called subclasses. You can only have on main class but unlimited subclasses. Most people don¡¯t even have a subclass because of the strict requirements from their main class. A main class requires too much attention, so most people usually don¡¯t have subclasses. It¡¯s getting late kid, you can stay here in the guild for tonight and tomorrow I¡¯ll have Lucy take care of you but after that you¡¯re on your own.¡± ¡°Who¡¯s Lucy?¡± ¡°That lass from before.¡± With that the Renton told Lucy to take me to my room and later I had my dinner downstairs on the first floor. Lucy sat next to me and had dinner with me and we had a nice chat. I told her about my story and she actually cried for me, which made me feel a bit bad. Lucy was a very sweet girl that was 19 years old that started working for the guild as a receptionist and bar maid two years ago. We had a nice meal together but a lot of guys came and flirt with Lucy and Lucy playfully flirted back and a couple of guys gave me envious looks for being able to eat with her. Lucy was very attractive. Long brunette hair and an hour glass shaped body that could make you drool. After dinner I went up to my room and went to bed. Chapter 9: Aileen I woke up early this morning and was able to find a bath. Turns out that this world doesn¡¯t have any soap so I had to thoroughly scrub my body. I felt clean and refreshed after my bath and had breakfast alone. Lucy was busy getting things ready for my tour and so I had a simple meal of bread and eggs. After I finished I exited the guild with Lucy and we began the tour of the town. ¡°So where are we gonna go Lucy?¡± I asked. ¡°Well, first we¡¯re going to go shopping for some new clothes for you, then I¡¯m going to show you where you can go to be apprenticed to be a knight, rogue and archer. After that, I¡¯m going to take you to the weapon and armor shop. And finally we¡¯re going to find a place for you to stay.¡± She replied. The clothes shopping alone took over three hours. Looks like women are the same no matter what world you¡¯re in. Lucy fussed over my size and whether the clothes fit me or looked cute enough. She was kind of like an older sister which made me feel quite warm inside. She even bought me the clothes which made me feel bad about lying to her. We toured around town and she showed me where I could go to become apprenticed to Knights and rogues. She told me that the Rogue guild is open 24/7 and that I can go in there at any time to request things like assassinations and other dark deals. ¡°The difference between the knight guild and the rogue guild is that the knight guild is loyal to the kingdom and once a squire becomes a knight, they have to serve ten years for the kingdom and then they are free to do whatever they want. The knight¡¯s guild primarily focus on orders from the king and take care of business on matters concerning the well-being of the kingdom. Most knights become adventurers after their service ends and some take on squires of their own that aren¡¯t loyal to the kingdom. That method is looked down upon by the kingdom but people still do it. Rogues focus more on the dark side of things as stated before and they conduct many shady deals. The rogue guild mostly focus on profit. There is also a mages guild in the kingdom but there isn¡¯t one stationed in this town because it is too small and there aren¡¯t enough mages around anyway. Mage guilds are usually only in big cities like the capital. Adventurers guild¡¯s priority is exploring the world and completing missions for the common people like finding rare treasures or getting rid of some monsters in the forest that the Knights guild doesn¡¯t deem an immediate threat to the kingdom. Adventurers guild are practically stationed all over the continent, even in the Elven territories. The only place they aren¡¯t located is in the Wastelands. From what I¡¯ve heard that place is inhabitable by humans and there are many fierce demon beasts that over the five-star level.¡± ¡°What do the stars mean for demon beasts? Are they ranks?¡± I asked. ¡°Yes they are ranks on how strong a monster is. A normal monster, for example, a goblin is only a one star monster and you could probably handle them with some difficulty. Adventurers have ranks also. The higher their rank the more difficult missions they can take on which gives higher rewards.¡± After lunch we went to the weapon and armor shop and I saw many cool looking weapons but I only looked and didn¡¯t buy anything. Lucy found me a cheap but pretty decent inn called, The Pig¡¯s Sty. Apparently it is quite popular with adventurers. Lucy and I parted ways and she told me to come visit her if I had any problems or questions. Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit. I spent the night alone, in my room curious about my egg. ¡®I wonder what it¡¯s gonna be when it hatches?¡¯ Well, it was useless to think about it for now. It probably won¡¯t hatch for a while. The most immediate thing was to choose a class. I already had interests in becoming a rogue. I figured, with my [Blink] skill I would make a pretty good one. With my sights set on becoming a rogue I went to sleep and decided to head off to the Rogue guild in the morning. After breakfast, I headed off to the Rogue guild with my new backpack that Lucy bought for me that had my demon beast egg inside. Lucy told me that I should always keep it with me to bond with it or something. I didn¡¯t really know. I was hoping to sell it because it was a pain in the ass to keep around but Lucy was firmly against it, saying something how it would be nice to have a pet. I entered the gloomy looking building and it turned out that it was just like a bar. It had a counter but very few tables and it was empty except for the bar keeper behind the counter. ¡°Umm.. excuse me sir? I would like to become a rogue.¡± ¡°Are you the new kid that discovered the dungeon?¡± ¡°How did you know that?¡± ¡°Heh, it¡¯s part of my job to know what goes on around here. Anyway, you want to be a rogue huh? Fabulous decision on your part. It will be 50 silvers for three months of training. Of course there will be food and lodging for you.¡± ¡°What! 50 silvers! That¡¯s outrageous! That¡¯s half of my money!¡± ¡°It isn¡¯t easy to become a rogue kiddo. It takes time and effort. You¡¯re also paying for the instructor. Of course you could pay 25 silvers more for a top notch instructor instead of the one that would be randomly assigned to you.¡± I immediately decided that these guys are conning me but I needed skills to survive in this world and I knew that you get what you pay for so I¡¯m hoping this will be a good investment on my part. I grudgingly handed out 75 silvers and signed a piece of paper pledging that I am not responsible for any possible injuries, disabilities and death that could occur to me. After that was done the bar keeper led me to a room where a short, slim woman was sleeping on a bed. ¡°Get up Aileen! I¡¯ve got a new student for you.¡± ¡°Uggh¡. Why now Ben? It¡¯s too early.¡± ¡°Oh shut up. You still owe me for last time. Now get up and teach your new student.¡± With that said Ben left the room. Aileen didn¡¯t get up for another two hours and I just sat there in the room watching her sleep. I didn¡¯t know what else to do. When she finally got up she introduced herself. ¡°Looks like you¡¯re my new student! I¡¯m Aileen, assassin, con artist and various others. Pleasure to meet you!¡± she said to me with a bubbly smile. I introduced myself and blushed while looking at her very revealing clothing. She was basically just wearing a tank top and underwear in front of me. She had very seductive curves and had perky B-cups. She wasn¡¯t what you would call pretty but she was really cute in a mature kind of way. ¡°Oooh how cute! You¡¯re blushing!¡± she said as she brought me into a hug and squeezed my head against her chest. ¡°I¡¯m going to have a lot of fun training you!¡± her eyes emitted a strange light that I didn¡¯t see but her voice gave me the chills. I regretted my decision already. Chapter 10: One month I followed Aileen to a large room. I assumed it was the training room because I saw lots of weapons, dummies and other training equipment. ¡°First we¡¯re going to see what you can do. Grab any weapon you want and come at me.¡± Aileen said. I went over to the rack of weapons and was kind of intimidated by the variety. There were all sorts: broad swords, claymores, daggers, throwing axes, twin bladed axes, knives, scimitars, spears, javelin and others that I couldn¡¯t identify. I tried picking up a claymore and swung it sloppily. It was too big and heavy for me so I moved on to something smaller. I grabbed a dagger and swung it a few times to get a feel for it. It was still a bit heavy but I like the way it felt in my hands so I went back to Aileen, my new teacher with it. ¡°A dagger eh? Okay, now come at me.¡± She said. ¡°Aren¡¯t you going to use a weapon?¡± I replied. I blinked and suddenly she was in front of me. ¡°Don¡¯t question your teacher.¡± With that said she slapped me. Hard. In the face. I fell to the ground. ¡°Oomf!¡± ¡°Get up! You think training is a joke?¡± Aileen¡¯s demeanor did a complete 180 and I was speechless of the change that just occurred. She was a sweet petite woman but now she seemed like a madman raging at me to come fight her. I gritted my teeth, got up and thrust my dagger at her. Her arms turned into a blur. I couldn¡¯t even see them when she knocked the dagger out of my hands and I was back on the ground again spitting out the dust. ¡°Again!¡± ¡°Oomf!¡± ¡°Again!¡± ¡°Ugh!¡± ¡°Again!¡± ¡°Ahh!¡± ¡°Get up!¡± I gradually lost track of time and by the time we were done I was covered with bruises all over my body. I noticed notifications coming up saying that I gained an extra stat in stamina occasionally but I ignored it because I was too busy trying not to get beat up. ¡°Whew, we¡¯ll call it a day. Be here early tomorrow! Someone will come take you to your room.¡± Aileen told me and then she left. I laid on the floor, unmoving. And as she said, someone did come. It hurt just to move. The person laid me on a bed and I went to sleep. ¡°Ack!¡± I woke up in pain. Something hard hit my head. ¡°Rise and shine buttercup. First lesson of being a rogue: Never let your guard down!¡± Aileen was yelling in my room as she began hitting me with a stick to get up. ¡°Uuh¡ What time is it?¡± I asked. ¡°It¡¯s 2 AM now get up! You never know when you could get killed you have to always be one guard even in your sleep!¡± ¡°What! That¡¯s crazy!¡± I hastily got up in order for her to stop smacking me with the stick. Then we went to the training hall where she beat me again. ¡°What¡¯s the point of all this? You¡¯re just beating me! Are you a sadist?¡± I cried out in pain. ¡°I¡¯m teaching you the flaws in your stance and the openings that you are showing. If this was a real life and death battle, your opponent would have used those openings to kill you.¡± She replied with no emotion. ¡°But¡ it hurts!¡± I complained. ¡°Quit being such a pussy¡ sigh¡ my first student is so useless¡ fine, we¡¯ll move on to something else. Grab those knives over there.¡± I went over to the table and carefully grabbed about a dozen similar looking knives and walked back to Aileen. ¡°We¡¯re going to practice your throwing skills. You see that dummy over there? Throw the knives at it.¡± I picked up a knife and aimed carefully at the wooden dummy. If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it. *Throw* *Throw* *Throw* I made roughly 8 out of the 13 knives that I threw. ¡°Well, at least you¡¯re not completely useless. You have the [Throw] skill right?¡± ¡°Yeah.¡± ¡°Good. Then for the rest of the day throw the knives into that dummy over there. You aren¡¯t allowed to stop until you have 100% accuracy.¡± With that said Aileen went off and left me alone in the room. ¡®Sigh¡ what in the world did I get myself into? Well, might as well get started¡¡¯ After an hour or so my right arm was starting to get sore so I switched to my left. I found out that my left arm was slightly less accurate than my right but I kept on throwing. I don¡¯t know how much time has passed but I could barely lift up my arms. Notification panels popped up occasionally but I ignored them and kept on throwing. Finally, Aileen came back and told me to get some dinner and rest. Unfortunately, I never reached 100% accuracy and was quite disappointed in myself. Tired, I ate my small dinner of cold soup and hard bread but I didn¡¯t complain because I was famished and I went to bed exhausted. ¡°Oomf!¡± ¡°Rise and shine buttercup!¡± I was rudely woken up by Aileen with a splash of water to my face at around 4 AM this time and we went straight back into sparring. I was extremely discouraged because Aileen kept on knocking away my dagger and I was getting beat up like the day before. After hours of torture she finally said to move onto my throwing but today the distance between me and the dummy was increased and so I had to throw harder and be more accurate. And so my days passed uneventfully and slowly by training with Aileen. Until finally a month has gone by. *********** ¡°Rise and shine buttercup!¡± I quickly rolled off my bed before Aileen could bring harm to me. I saw that my pillow had a knife sticking out of it and another knife was thrown at me and I blocked it with my dagger. *Whistle* ¡°Not bad kiddo. You¡¯re finally getting the hang of things.¡± I must say that I¡¯m quite proud of myself for coming this far. I¡¯m actually surprised that I¡¯m still alive. The past month was torturous and gruesome. Aileen beat my ass every day and I threw knives till my arms felt like they were gonna fall off and the food was terrible. She also had me do training circuits to increase my agility and had me learn lock picking and how to be a pickpocket to increase my dexterity. She had me go pickpocket in the streets for real and there were a number of times I picked the wrong dude to steal from and I almost got killed. Sigh.. another two more months of this hell. But like they say, ¡°No pain, no gain.¡± And I¡¯ll say that I gained a lot. This is what my stats look like now. Name: Rane Coult Title: Snake Slayer Level: 7 HP: 24/24 MP: 26/26 Strength: 14 Agility: 20 +1 Dexterity: 17 Stamina: 24 Intelligence: 6+1 Luck: 3 Wisdom: 7 Skills: [Throw ¡î¡î] [Blink ¡î¡î¡î¡î] Because I trained [Throw] so much it upgraded to two stars. Aileen told me that skills can be upgraded the more proficient I become in them. She said that there is no limit to how much a skill can be upgraded but she told me that the highest recorded skill with the greatest proficiency was 11 stars in spear arts or something. As I was admiring my stats, suddenly the door to the training hall opened and came in Jack with a girl behind him. Chapter 11: Missions ¡°Who¡¯s that girl behind you Jack?¡± Aileen asked. Jack is another Rogue that works here part time because he¡¯s also an adventurer. He is one of the better rogues in the Rogue Guild according to Aileen. ¡°Oh, this is Emily, she¡¯s my new student. Emily say hi to Rane and Aileen.¡± Emily¡¯s eyes widened when Jack said ¡°Aileen¡±. ¡°You¡¯re Aileen?¡± Emily asked while staring at Aileen. ¡°Heh, you know of me eh?¡± she said with a bemused smile. ¡°Are you kidding me? You¡¯re Red Blade Aileen! Probably the best assassin in the entire kingdom!¡± ¡®Woah¡ I didn¡¯t know that.¡¯ Emily was all bubbly and excited about meeting Aileen and was chatting nonstop while Aileen seemed a bit embarrassed about having a fan. I observed the new girl as she was animatedly talking to Aileen. She was average height for a girl her age. She looked to be 15 or 16. A little bit older than me. She was blonde with nice curves and what my eyes couldn¡¯t help but focusing on was her breasts. She had nice perky boobs. But I quickly averted my eyes so as not to be called a pervert. ¡°Alright girl, shut up. It¡¯s time to begin your training.¡± Jack interrupted and led her away. ¡°I guess we should get back to where we were also.¡± Said Aileen. We sparred for the rest of the day. Every time I think that I¡¯m about to land a hit on Aileen she moves with inhuman speed and somehow manages to either dodge, block or counter it. By the end of the day a notification came up saying that I learned [Dagger Arts¡î] ¡°Aileen I learned [Dagger Arts]!¡± ¡°Took you long enough. It normally takes the average rogue about three weeks to earn basic mastery of their chosen weapon. Remember, the more you practice and the more proficient you become in the dagger, the more stars you will gain which will result in you becoming more powerful with that weapon.¡± I was a little bummed out that I was slower than the average person but I decided not to dwell on it. ¡°Okay, we¡¯ll call it a day here. Starting from tomorrow, we¡¯re only going to spar occasionally and not focus too heavily on your weapon. This can be considered as completing the first part of your training. From now on, we¡¯re going to focus on your lock picking skills, stealth, and pick pocketing. But you must train on your own on throwing and the dagger.¡± With that said, I spent the rest of the day off and was in my room looking over my egg. It¡¯s been over a month and it still hasn¡¯t hatched. I asked Aileen about it and apparently demon beast eggs take a long time to hatch and that I shouldn¡¯t worry about it. My days slowly passed by and soon another month has passed. This period of learning was a lot easier than the first month as there weren¡¯t as much brutal beatings from Aileen. I learned [Lock Picking ¡î], [Pick Pocket ¡î], and [Stealth ¡î]. I didn¡¯t slack off in my training in the [Dagger Arts] and [Throw], I even got another star in [Throw], which now made it three stars. But [Dagger Arts] still stayed in one star. During this month I got to know Emily a lot better. She didn¡¯t talk to me the first two weeks I attempted to speak with her, until Jack, her teacher, told me that she is really shy with strangers. The only reason she was able to talk to Aileen was because she was a big fan of hers. Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit. Eventually, Aileen had me spar with Emily and because I was stronger and had more experience than her, I was able to give a few pointers and we hit it off from there. Emily focused on using knives instead of a dagger like me. So she carries around a lot of knives on her body. She¡¯s probably carrying around dozens of small knives everywhere she goes. Emily is the first actual friend that I made in this world. Aileen doesn¡¯t count because she¡¯s my teacher and she¡¯s scary. I¡¯m now in my 3rd and final month of training. I don¡¯t know what to expect but I¡¯m kind of excited to be out on my own. ¡°This is your final month with me.¡± Aileen said. ¡°From now on we¡¯re going to have you actually take on missions from the guild.¡± ¡°Oh? What kind of missions.¡± I asked. ¡°There are a variety of them but they will be quite easy for you. Go to Ben and he¡¯ll give you your first mission. You have to complete several of them within the remaining days that you have in order to be fully initiated to become a rogue. If you don¡¯t then you have to spend another month of training and you have to pay an extra 25 silvers.¡± I was a bit shocked that I could possibly flunk from this thing which made me determined not to stay an extra month here and pay extra money from my pockets. I still had about 20 silvers left from the reward for discovering a new dungeon, so I couldn¡¯t afford failing these missions. I went to Ben who was behind the counter serving drinks and asked him for my missions. ¡°Has it already been two months since you got here? Time flies eh? Anyway, here you go. These are the missions that you have to complete. Remember that you have one month.¡± He gave me a piece of paper with sloppy handwriting that had a list of the missions. I took a look at the missions and was speechless. Who the hell made this up? This list was¡. Perverted. Mission List 1. Obtain one underwear from Aileen without her knowing. 2. Obtain one underwear from Emily without her knowing. 3. Bring Mission items to Ben when completed. I went back to Ben and asked him what in the hell this was. ¡°Aren¡¯t they fine babes? I could get a pretty penny for selling these to some of the guys that work around here you know? And you should be happy that I only gave you three missions. Other initiates usually get around five or more. I was speechless. I didn¡¯t know whether to laugh or cry at his words. I went back to my room and contemplated on how to complete my missions. Ben practically gave me a suicide quest. If I succeed, then everything will be fine. If I fail, then I will be branded as a pervert by Emily AND Aileen and I will most likely die a gruesome death. ---------------- Hey guys! Hope you enjoyed the chapter! Sorry for not putting out new chapters recently. Just moved into my dorm at college. I don''t know when I will post a new chapter as my schedule is kinda funky right now. Chapter 12: Rogue A week has already passed since I was issued the missions. I seriously have no idea on how to start this. I¡¯ve just been training everyday like usual but I would just travel around the town so that I trick Aileen and Emily into thinking that I¡¯m doing my missions. I was in the training hall, practicing on a dummy when Emily suddenly came up to me. ¡°So how are your missions going? Are they hard?¡± ¡°Uh¡ yeah, haha, they¡¯re really hard. I haven¡¯t even completed one of them yet. Most of the time I go out I¡¯m usually just looking for information on my targets.¡± ¡°Wow. It must be really difficult huh? I hope I don¡¯t have missions as difficult as yours.¡± ¡°Haha, yeah. I bet you¡¯d get easier ones than me.¡± I replied. After lunch I went to Emily¡¯s room. I knew that she was currently training with Jack so I took this opportunity to sneak into her room. I easily picked the lock with a few deft movements of my hands and opened the door. I searched around the room and I found the drawer that contained her underwear. They were cute white ones and it kind of made me feel guilty yet turned on at the same time. ¡°What are you doing Rane?¡± I froze. Shit. I slowly turn around and there is Aileen standing behind me. ¡°I never thought you were a pervert Rane. I seriously misjudged you.¡± She said with a disgusted face. ¡°No¡ this is a misunderstanding.¡± I stammered. ¡°Yeah, creeping into a girl¡¯s room and stealing her underwear is a misunderstanding.¡± ¡°It¡¯s all Ben¡¯s fault! He gave me this mission. I would never do this sort of thing!¡± I ratted out Ben and handed over the mission slip over to Aileen. Aileen glanced over the paper and frowned. ¡°Follow me.¡± I followed Aileen to the bar and was feeling really terrible as I knew what would occur. She smashed the door of the bar open and everyone turned to look at who did that with murderous intent. It was normally a very quiet bar and anyone who caused a commotion was usually beaten by everyone. But when they saw that it was Aileen, and when they saw the look on her face, they knew not to get involved. Aileen walked over to Ben who was behind the counter and she took out her two knives. Ben immediately knew that something was wrong and he suddenly just vanished. Like a ninja. ¡®What the hell? How did he do that?¡¯ I thought. Aileen disappeared too, just like smoke and I heard clashes of steel occurring all around the room. People began rushing out of the room while I just stood there dumbly, wondering where the hell they were and how in the world they were moving without me not being able to see them at all. The furniture was being toppled over, and knives were flying around. I heard Ben¡¯s voice in a panic saying, ¡°Aileen, Aileen! It¡¯s all a misunderstanding! I was gonna get paid good money! I swear I would have given you 50%! The man just wanted one piece of underwear from you! He was gonna pay 100 gold!¡± The author''s narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. Suddenly Aileen reappeared on top of a table. ¡°One hundred gold? I take 90 and you take ten, then it¡¯s a deal. Oh and leave Emily out of this.¡± ¡°Okay! Deal!¡± Ben said hurriedly as he reappeared out of nowhere also and he looked haggard. His clothes were a mess and he had numerous cuts all over his body and he was heavily breathing and sweating. Aileen left the room and I followed after her. We walked in silence and I didn¡¯t know what to say. ¡°Um.. Aileen? I¡¯m sorry about not telling you about the mission. I should have told you and respected your and Emily¡¯s privacy.¡± Aileen turned around. ¡°Heh, you cute, silly boy.¡± She said as she ruffled my hair. ¡°I would have given you my panties if you just asked you know?¡± I blushed furiously. ¡°Ha! How cute. I want you to go and apologize to Emily. As for your missions, I will issue you new ones.¡± With that said she left and I went to go apologize to Emily. With my head down I explained to Emily what happened and her face turned bright red like a tomato. She actually looked really cute and embarrassed. Then she slapped me and ran out of the room. Sigh¡ I guess this is what I get¡ The final month of my training passed by in a flash. And during this time, Aileen found me several new missions that I completed with ease and I passed the rest of my days training and increasing my stats and skills. But during this month Emily refused to talk to me and whenever she saw me she just left the room. This made me feel extremely dejected but I didn¡¯t know what to do. When I asked Aileen what I should do about this she told me to just give Emily some time. ¡°She¡¯s a shy girl. She will come to understand one day.¡± She told me. Today was my last day of training and was the day I graduate. ¡°Do you Rane Coult hereby agree to the rules of the Rogue Guild and promise to¡. (blah blah blah, oath stuff)¡± asked Aileen. ¡°Yes I do.¡± A notification popped up and said: [You are now a Rogue] [From now on you shall receive one point in agility and dexterity every time you level up without the need for spending any stat points.] ¡®Woah that¡¯s OP¡¯ My training days were over and now I could start my days as an adventurer. Aileen pulled me into a hug. I surprisingly grew a lot during these three months. I think I¡¯m now about 5¡±7 and a little taller than Aileen. ¡°I¡¯m proud of you buttercup.¡± The guild had a celebration for me that night for my graduation and I got drunk for the first time but ti was a great time and I enjoyed it. Chapter 13: Adventurer I stood outside of the Adventurers Guild with confidence. ¡®This is the real world, I¡¯m gonna need to find a way to make money fast.¡¯ I entered the guild and saw Lucy behind the counter taking orders. When Lucy saw me here eyes widened in surprise. She gave me a smile and headed over to me and gave me a big hug. ¡°Look at you! You¡¯re so much bigger now! I¡¯m guessing you must have finally become a rogue now that you¡¯re here.¡± ¡°How did you know that I became a rogue?¡± I asked. ¡°Word gets around pretty easily around here you know? Hehe, follow me. I¡¯ll issue you your adventurer identification card.¡± It only took a few moments for Lucy to get everything finished and soon she handed me a card with my name and one star underneath it. ¡°Congratulations on becoming an adventurer. The job list is on the board upstairs, on the right side of the wall.¡± ¡°Okay, thanks.¡± I said as I walked to the stairs. I saw about a dozen people dressed in all sorts of armor and equipped with various weapons and they were all standing in front of a huge board that was filled with paper that probably listed the jobs. I went up to the board and no one seemed to question me or looked at my strangely. They just glanced at me and minded their own business. There were various types of jobs listed on the board. The jobs that were one to two stars were mostly situated in the right side of the board and the higher the difficulty or the more stars a job had, then the more to the left it was. I saw that the highest ranking job was currently a six-star mission that required troll blood to make a type of healing potion. ¡®Wow, trolls must be really dangerous if it¡¯s a six-star mission.¡¯ I went back to the side for beginner missions and looked for a job to take on. There were a lot of useless bullshit, like picking weeds in a garden or helping find a stray cat and the pay was horrible, several coppers for most of the one-star missions. I moved onto the two-star missions and that was when things started to involve more of fighting skills. There were several that interested me but I finally decided on the goblin subjugation job. What I basically had to do was go into the western forest and kill all the goblins that I find. Each goblin is worth five coppers. I have to bring back the left ear of each goblin that I kill. The currency in this world is very different from Earth¡¯s. One copper coin is worth about half a loaf of bread. Ten coppers is worth one silver and ten silver is worth one gold. Because this mission is a ¡°marked¡± mission, it allows me to redo it as many times as I like and there are no penalties if I fail to kill any goblins. Apparently, in this world, goblins are kind of like rats. They are the pests that constantly breed and kill wandering humans that are lost. Humans try to reduce their numbers as much as possible but they can hardly make a dent in their population. I took the mission back to Lucy and told her that I was accepting this mission. She gave me a dubious look and tried to persuade me to take on an easier one-star mission but I firmly refused. ¡°Be careful Rane, and good luck!¡± said Lucy as I left the guild. I have 21 silvers with me left. I¡¯m pretty sure this will last me at least a week if not more. I need to start saving up money so that I can buy my own house so that I don¡¯t have to pay rent at an inn the rest of my life. If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement. It took me roughly 20 minutes to get out of town and another long hour of walking before I reached the forest. I had my bag with me. Inside it was the demon beast egg. I keep it with me at all times because I never know when it¡¯s gonna hatch. Aileen told me that I have to be there when the egg hatches so that I can imprint in order for me to become its master. One time, I accidentally dropped the egg from a table and nearly had a heart attack. But surprisingly there were no marks on it at all. The egg is very durable and I would probably need to drop it at a height of at least ten feet to even leave a small crack. I also have a water skin for water, five extra knives, flint and steel for fire and dried meat in case I get hungry. Before I entered the forest I prepared myself mentally and looked over my stats and skills. I couldn¡¯t help but praise myself for coming this far with my stats compared to how I was before. Name: Rane Coult Title: Snake Slayer Class: Rogue Level: 7 HP: 24/24 MP: 26/26 Strength: 18 Agility: 27 +1 Dexterity: 23 Stamina: 29 Intelligence: 6+1 Luck: 4 Wisdom: 7 Skills: [Throw ¡î¡î¡î] [Blink ¡î¡î¡î¡î] [Dagger Arts ¡î] [Lock Picking ¡î] [Pick Pocket ¡î] [Stealth ¡î¡î] The difference between me from three months ago and the me now is like heaven and earth. Feeling confidence in myself, I activated stealth and entered the forest. Goblins shouldn¡¯t be much of a problem for me now. I¡¯m now much more stronger and should be able to deal with one fairly easily. Plus, with all my training and [Dagger Arts] I should be able to overpower one without much difficulty. The only problem lies with the fact that goblins usually hunt in groups. I¡¯m confident that I can take on two to three goblins but if there is any more than that, then I¡¯m gonna have to move on and find smaller groups. I roamed through the forest for about 30 minutes before I came across a couple of goblins that were talking to each other. (not that I can understand what they¡¯re saying. They were speaking in some guttural language that had a lot of grunts and shrieks) I activated [Stealth] and slowly got closer to them. They were busy trying to look for stuff to eat in the bushes and haven¡¯t noticed me. I quietly unsheathed my knife and crept closer to them. Once I was finally in range I stabbed the goblin on the right in the side of his throat and pushed it in deep. I was on the move for the next one before it could even hit the ground. I stabbed the other one straight into the eyes, aiming for the brain and that goblin died also. ¡°Whew. That wasn¡¯t too hard. Looks like I was nervous for nothing.¡± I grabbed my knife and cut off the ear of each goblin and put them into a small bag. It was bloody and messy but I went through with it. I put the dead bodies of the goblins into a pile and left it there for some other monsters to consume. My goal today is to kill at least ten goblins. That would make me about 50 coppers, which equals 5 silver coins. Suddenly as I was walking through the forest, I felt my bag shake and I heard a small cracking noise coming from it. ---------------------- Hope you guys enjoyed the chapter! I want to thank the three people who rated my story! Chapter 14: Lord Tyral I took off my bag and gently set it on the ground before opening it. I saw the demon beast egg shaking uncontrollably. But suddenly, it stopped. My excitement died out as it stopped moving. I was hoping for it to hatch because I was extremely curious as to what it is. I observed the egg for a while longer before I closed the bag and swung it over my back. I decided that I worked hard enough today and went back to town. It was a long walk and my legs were pretty exhausted by the time I got back to the guild. ¡°Welcome back Rane.¡± I heard the sweet voice of Lucy echo throughout the room as she called out to me and I walked toward her. ¡°How were your spoils? Did you come back empty handed?¡± she asked. ¡°Nope.¡± I replied as I took out the small bag filled with goblin ears. She looked at me in surprise. ¡°You actually managed to kill goblins! Ten! I underestimated you Rane! But still, you have to be careful, you¡¯re dirty all over. Hold on, I¡¯ll get you the reward.¡± Aileen came back with a small purse of silver coins. She took it out and counted the amount I earned and handed it to me. I earned five silvers today. It¡¯s not much but it¡¯ll do. I had a meal with Lucy that night and later on found an inn to stay in. The usual place that I stayed in was full so I had to find another inn. The outrageous innkeeper ripped me off and made me pay five silvers for a single night! I¡¯m never going back there again and I¡¯m going to tell everyone else not to go there ever. That night the egg shook twice for short intervals. I knew that this meant that the demon beast was going to hatch soon and the only thing I needed was patience. You can¡¯t rush these sort of things. The next morning, I went back to the Adventurers Guild to look for another job. But this time I didn¡¯t want to go kill goblins. I wanted to do something different. When I went to the job board I saw a large number of men standing around one short dude with blonde hair. He looked to be around my age. He had a somewhat good-looking face (no homo) but he looked incredibly arrogant. He chose a mission from the board and he and his lackeys went down to Lucy to accept the quest. I decided to pick a two-star mission where I had to go find a rare herb in the forest. I was to report where I found it, if I find it. When I went down to accept the request I saw the young noble lad flirting with Lucy and she was flirting right back at him playfully. But when I went up to her, she focused her attention on me. ¡°You choose a mission Rane? Ooh, this is a hard one. Those purple railies are very rare. I suggest you go look for them on the eastern parts of the forest.¡± ¡°Thanks Lucy, I¡¯ll see you later.¡± I young noble had a jealous expression on his face while looking at me. ¡®What the hell did I do to offend him? Take Lucy¡¯s time away from him? That¡¯s her fucking job!¡¯ I decided to ignore him and went on my way to the forest. ¡°Should I do something about him m¡¯lord?¡± asked soldier that was next to the young noble. ¡°Hmm.. yes. I didn¡¯t like the look he gave me. Follow that brat and go teach him a lesson. He deserves punishment for what he did to me.¡± ¡°Hehe, of course m¡¯lord. He¡¯ll never look at you with those eyes again.¡± ---- I traveled over five hours, searching for the plant but to no avail. I was very discouraged and was planning on quitting but I heard noises coming from behind me. The author''s narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. It was goblins. Or more accurately a single hobgoblin. I learned a lot from my three months of training in the Rogue Guild and I particularly learned a bit about monsters from Aileen. Hobgoblins were evolved forms of goblins when they reach their level cap of 100. The hobgoblin was alone. I heard that they normally travel in groups with regular goblins and they command them as their leader within their territory. This lone hobgoblin must have been chased out of his tribe when he was just a goblin and must have recently evolved. The hobgoblin was brandishing a poorly crafted spear in front of me and snarling at me with a threatening voice. I of course wasn¡¯t fazed at all. I had enough experience and was hoping that he would give me more gold than goblins. The hobgoblin charged at me with his spear. He was faster than I expected but he had no finesse in his attack and just tried to blindly stab at me. All my training paid off because although the hobgoblin and I were around the same height and strength, it didn¡¯t have the amount of training I did. Aileen, who I sparred with was much faster and so I could respond better in this situation. I knocked aside the spear with my arm and rushed in close to the hobgoblin with my dagger. Spears are not meant for close combat so once I got in range with my dagger, I stabbed it straight into the heart and it fell to the ground dead. I didn¡¯t forget to cut off his ear, in hopes of earning some money. Suddenly I heard someone clap behind me. ¡°You got some nice skills little boy. But you offended someone you shouldn¡¯t have.¡± A voice rang out from behind the trees. ¡°Who are you? Come out so I can see you.¡± There were three men that came out into my field of vision. I recognized that these were the men that were with the young lord back in the guild. I think there is at least one more hiding just in case so I¡¯ll have to be careful. ¡°Who told you to come after me? Was that prick lord? What the fuck did I do to him? Is he always a little cunt like this, telling his bitches to come after people just because I took the attention from a pretty girl from him?¡± ¡°That¡¯s Lord Tyral to you brat! You shall not stain the honor of the Tyral House!¡± A man shouted and they all unsheathed their swords. They all rushed at me and when one of they got close enough I [Blinked] behind them. The soldiers were obviously confused about where I went. They never expected me to have this heaven-defying skill and thought I was easy prey. I was behind the one on the right and stabbed him in the spine with my dagger and threw my knife straight into the neck of the one in the middle. ¡°EEeh!¡± the last one remaining screamed out and tried to run away, but I [Blinked] close to him and cut his throat with my dagger. A notification came up saying that I leveled up twice. I check their belongings and took their purses and found 74 silver and 16 coppers in all. This made me incredibly happy I wonder how much the little lord has? My heart was filled with vengeance towards the little prick that wanted me murdered. I¡¯ll get my revenge sooner or later. But I can¡¯t let the cunt find out that I¡¯m the one who killed them. I decided to go back to town and wait for him to leave before I had my revenge. And so I took a long three hour walk back home.
