《Game of Edge》 Prologue It was hot today. This afternoon I am standing here in the side of the road. In procession for the Royal Knights. I am one of the soldiers, keeping the citizens in line who would try to impede the procession. Moments later I watched the Royal Knights coming in the gate. In lead is a young man. Not like I have discriminated my job. But as a commoner, we are world apart. As a soldier, I respect my job. My father died doing this work on the field. Leaving me and my mother living in this world. We were helped by his friends and colleagues in work. Now, years later, I have succeeded my dad. Earning salaries that is enough for me and my mothers finances. The procession now passed in front of me. Beside the Prince, is the Great General Mathias. An old man, bald and grey colored beard. Wrinkles covered his face but its sort of had made him more intimidating to look at. The procession ended, then me and the other soldiers went to garrison on the guard post. We were instructed to rest by our Captain. As I was about to leave the Captain called me over and said, "You have still your night shift." I am exhausted, but I just gritted my teeth, "Yes sir," I replied. __________ It is now night, and I am patrolling out in the streets. My eyes is kinda hazy now. Damn, this authorities. If you are a commoner and don''t have any backing, they always try to make out of you, blood and sweat. But there''s nothing I can say. If you try to talk back, you might lost your job. In fact, I am one of the luckiest because father''s friend tends to look after me. "What is going around here," an old man wearing robes walked out of the darkness, "Captain, what are you doing?." This was the Great General Mathias. I simply stand in erect, as the others also stood up but clearly a little wobbly because of the alcohol. "Your drinking in your own job. Clever huh. We need to talk inside Captain." The Captain dropped his head down, caught in the act. Then the General turned his head towards me. "Boy, let me see that." I walked up and held out the bag towards him. As he inspected it, I clearly saw his eyes opening wide, and closed the bag in a rushed. It seems to be that whats inside made him fluster. I just thought, what kind of item it would be to make a Great General make that expression. He then looked towards me and said, "This is yours." Then throw the bag towards me. "Go home and take some rest, you look exhausted. Let this rascals do your job." I just stood stuck still, and seemingly unable to comprehend what just happened, until I noticed I have been quiet for quite some time, "Y-Yes, Sir." Unbeknownst to me, the General had a sly smirk on his face. __________ I slowly opened the door of the house, I don''t want mother to wake up. Its the middle of the night and she needs some rest for her work tomorrow. I went inside my room without any disturbances and noises. I sat down on my bed and opened the bag. Inside are three items. A black clothed, that is shaped as an eye patch on both eyes. Weird, this is my first time to see an eye patch who covers both eyes. The other items are identical normal looking bracers. The General was shocked with this items? Weird. I shrugged as I wear both bracelets. The General said this is mine now. I like it and need to measure whether it fits my hand. As the other bracers was put in place, both items emitted a strange white light. I closed my eyes, after a moment and opened it. The bracers are now gone. Then strangely my body move by itself, and then grabbed the blindfold. I lay myself down, obviously I am not in control. Then put the blindfold on. Then I felt my consciousness faded away. Then suddenly I heard, "Welcome to the Game of Edge." Chapter 1 "Welcome to the Game of Edge." When I heard that voice, an orb of white light floated down from, who knows what''s up there. There''s no ceiling. In fact I am in a black wide space and as I looked down. I am even not standing in a platform. I am standing in the air. "John Wahlberg, you were chosen." The voice again said. I never responded. In my head I am thinking I am dreaming. Then a stick materialize out of thin air and beat me hard in the head. "OW!" "Still dreaming?" My eyes widened in confusion. "This is not a dream. This is the Domain of the Deities. And you are here physically and mentally by the power they had in their disposals." "In your case, you are special." The orb is resonating with the voice''s words. So that means that the voice came from it. And the most important thing I concluded is that this thing can read my mind. There are so many questions I have to asked... "Yes. Your still confused about all this and questions kept popping in your head. But by going through the trials laid upon you, your answers will be answered. The only thing I can answer is to why you are here and you as being... unique." The orb is now hovering above the ground and is now floating towards me, "Based on the data''s we have acquired. You have the best potential to become a champion. An exceptional person. The deities debated on who would picked you as their champion. The others had already picked theirs but there are some who are fixated on you. And remember, the Deities can only have one champion. Like that Prince of your kingdom." Many revelations have been bombarded my head. But clearly I have gotten the main point of the topic. "But.." I was interrupted before I can question. "Your now thinking why its you. Its because of that bracers and blindfold you have acquired. And we have tweak a little bit to make it appear that it is yours." Okay. That''s one question solve. "So what do I do?" The stick was still above my head. "This trial will determine the background story in the other world." "Hm? There is another world?" "Oh, Yes! We have different kinds of it too." By now, I thought to myself that everything I am about to encounter may seem shocking. Whew. I exhaled a breath of air, and resolved myself of whats this trial I will undertake. "In fact your World, Edge, is the World that connects to the others. In your own perspective your world is in a oblate spheroid. But in our eyes, yours are in Cube." Then the surrounding black space blurred and distorted. Then what appeared in front of me is a very big Cube. The big Cube has cloudy appearance, with a green and blue color under that white cloudy appearance. "This is Edge," the orb said. Then I heard a roar coming from Edge, and a long serpent like body flew out from it. "Ahem!" Then everything blurred and distorted again and we''re back again to that black wide space. "What was that?" "We have talked for quite some time now. The others are waiting for the results. So time for your trial." *Ding*
First Trial
The orb disappeared and a blue window appeared in front of me. I told you right that everything that I would encounter today would be shocking. Truly Shocking. I tried to grabbed the blue window but my hand just passed through. A few seconds later the window disappeared and another appeared.

I did not entered the army and become a soldier just to be stationed inside the walls. I want to fight the Monster Horde who had killed father. My mind stared at the Monsters and I moved forward. Even this are not the ones who killed my father, they are still Monsters. I planned to fight them out. I ignored what the window is saying in front of me. Its still there even though I am moving forward. Suddenly, I got hit hard from the head. "What are you doing?" A stick was hovering above my head. And the orb appeared right beside me. "You are to picked from them and now your thinking of beating and killing them?" "Their Monsters!" "Looked!" Then another burst of light enveloped the ten monsters and they shrunk. After the light dissipated what appeared are small and adorable creatures. "Now picked which one of them." "But, their still.." "Picked!" Then the stick hovered down right on my eye level. I can feel that the stick is gazing at me. I don''t know how or why but I can feel it. "Okay." I looked at the now small monsters. The one who had wings awhile ago had turned into a small lizard and its wings are now gone but still its tail is on fire. The others are also small, I think they turned back to their form from when they are still babies. I don''t know who to picked. It took longer than the orb has expected. "What would happen after I pick one?" "The one you''ll pick will help you and become your partner." "But I can''t pick... I told you I despise Monsters." "Looked at their eyes and tell me what do you see." I sighed, and turned my head towards the creatures. They looked so innocent. The orb then said, "This is a trial wherein you discard the racial discrimination. Monster or Human, you are still born from the same world. Pick one." I just stood there head lowered. I then looked at the creatures faces one by one. Then I saw one who had its eyes staring right back at me. It has the appearance of a lizard but his forearms seem to be short and had strong hind legs. It stood there staring at me. It had a four small horns, two on the backside of the head, and one on each side. It and I just kept staring at each other. I didn''t even notice the other monsters fading away from the background. It move towards me.

Usually what we present in the first trial are only manifestation or illusion of the adult form of the monster. Unexpectedly you took long enough and made me tweak another bit for you. Which resulted to the outcome that one of the monsters gained intelligence." Oh! That''s why when I looked at its eyes I saw fire burning in it that mesmerizes me. Unlike the others which looked so blanked. "And that''ts the initial part of the first trial." That startled me. "Okay. When will it finished?" Then an egg materialize in front of me. Vur who was in front of me turned to a white light and went inside the egg. The egg then shrunk to a thumb size, strings appeared and wrapped themselves on the on great circle on the egg, then solidified. Now the egg has a string attached to it which now looked like a necklace. "The trial would be finished after the egg hatched and your partner, Vur, will always be with you. Usually the Partner Information would appear after hatching but in this cased, its different. In fact the trial is finish, but we first need to make it hatch itself."

Second Trial
[table] Education Before going to the other world. You should learn the most basic and common sense on it. The other world does not have mana and throughout their history, has develop tools they call technology to cope up. We have instructors in here who are one of the greatest personage of the other world. Two blue windows appeared in front of me. It seems the next trial would be easy.

Then four men appeared in the darkness. Three old men and a middle age man in fact. One of the older man has this creepy grin on his face and keeps gazing at me. The other old man is wearing a skin tight brown clothes with shiny objects on his left chest. Standing upright, I can see that this old man is trained in the ways of the army. I know for a fact cause I am a soldier. But one thing I notice is he had a strange rectangular mustache. The last old man is wearing an all white robe with golden trims. A tall white hat which has a cross engrave on it. When I glance at him I felt peace and gentleness. And the last one is a middle age man who is half naked. Just standing there with the other three with its sharp eyes gazing at me. I blinked and when I opened my eyes the five of us are now in a room. There is only one chair and one table. The old man with a creepy grin stepped forward, "Guys. Let me start first." "Nein, Nein, Nein. Who are you to start first before the Almighty Fuhrer?" The old man with a strange mustache said. "I am Isaac Newtwo. What you''ve learned in Science and Math came from this head of mine. So let me go first," he then stared at me. "And investigate this mana thing." I shivered not because of what he said, but because of his face displaying into someone who looked like a maniac. I have seen someone with this looks in the one month I became a soldier. "Ho Ho Ho! You may go Isaac. And please Fuhrer Adolf Hitle, we have the time given to each of us. We have waited for this moment so there is no harm in going first or not. "The gentle old man said and gently switch his gaze at me. "I am Lord Pope. Who dares causes strife and violence in front of me will be punsihed as bestowed upon me by the Deities above." He put his hands together in a prayer. "You''re right Lord Pope. I''ll just be here and observed this soon-to-be student of ours. Whether he has the qualifications or not..." then he whispered something but I can''t hear him "... Himmler". Then he stared at me with a very sharp gaze. This gaze is different from the middle age man. This Fuhrer or something old man''s gaze seems to penetrate the outwards appearance and is gazing at the core of my inner well being like he can see through me. I''ve got a familiar vibe around him of sort, I wonder where I felt it. "How about you O Great Brook Lee." Isaac questioned? The middle age man just shake his head. So his name is Brook Le. What a strange name. I''ll put that in memory. Then Le sat crossed leg in the floor and meditated. Isaac then went in front of me and wrote something on the green wall with a white stick. "Now listen. You do know what this trial entails right?" I looked at him blankly. "Isn''t it you teaching me and me learning from you?" He eyed me with his right eye. "Seriously? You''ve got the idea but there''s still more." Then he tilted his head upwards. "Hey! Tell him. I am not a babysitter. I''m an instructor. That is your job. If you want me to then increase my awards... in fact let me reincarnate. Hehehe." After he said that a window appeared.
Every Instructor will teach you for 7 days each. In this trial we will determine your dedication and perseverance. In here you will be awarded in everything you do. So do you best.
Then Isaac started teaching me. "Listen brat. I am the Great Isaac Newtwo. This is a great privilege for you, for I am the Father Modern Science. So be attentive and listen well." Science and Math. That was what he taught me. Everything he had learned and discovered he imparted it to me. Everything was alright when tests and exams came up on the first day. A stick was on his hand and I wonder where he took it, because that was the stick from the beginning. Every time I got wrong in any item or question, a blow to the head came. But I love his teachings, especially about physics. The energies, mechanics, forces all of it. On Edge everything came from mana but it seems on this other world it has different functions. I also learned about mathematics. Every bit of it. Now I can see objects with its measurements around it. I don''t know how but it just happens. What sorcery is this Isaac teaching me? I told him about it and he seems to be so excited that he tried to gouge out my eye for experimentation. Did I ever tell you that he has the habit to circle around me and suddenly took out a ''syringe'' that doctors use, then pierced it on my neck to get a blood sample. Now every time he circles around me I am always on guard. There is a time I found out his intentions and retaliated, he just clicked his tongue and continued teaching. Stolen story; please report. "Master!" Vur floated down the ground then tackled me in the stomach by jumping. I groaned and the chair with me also fall backwards. "Master! Finally I can talk to you!" Vur said. "You can talk? But how?" I asked and he replied. "I don''t know. This just kinda popped out of my mind and then I know how." "Okay." The others just looked at me confused. "What are you talking about John? That thing talked to you?" Isaac questioned. "Yes. Can''t you hear it." Isaac''s eyes opened wide then murmured. "A species I have not seen and this guys stature looks like a dinosaur but I know its different and it can talked to John...." I can''t hear what he is saying afterwards but I know whats happening next. Why? Because my first instructor just moved forward with his maniacal grin and on his hands I can see the tool used by the doctor, a scalpel. I stood up and carried Vur away from the maniac. "What are you doing?" My voice was shaky because I know from the one week we have been together Isaac gets what he wants. I even told myself he is a manifestation of greed. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" Then Fuhrer Hitle stepped between the two of us and raised the stick. He strike it down and both old men fight it out. Both scalped and stick rammed into each other. "What are you doing?!" Fuhrer Hitle said in gritted teeth. He is really angry. "I only want to study it." "Nein!Nein!Nein! I know what you want. You want to dissect it." "How can I study its whole without dissecting it." They were about to fight it out again when suddenly a loud BOOM echoed out. "I am Lord Pope. Who cause strife and violence in front of me will be punished as bestowed upon me by the Deities above." I watched as Lord Pope stepped forward. The other two old men seem to have horrified faces and covered their mouth and nose while running away from the Lord Pope. I then smelt a pungent scent that took away my breath. I hastily covered my mouth and nose, hugged Vur tightly and move away. Far from that area. "Master! I can''t.. I can''t breathe." "Hang on! We will make it. Just hang on." I joined Isaac and Fuhrer Hitle in the back of the room, with our hands still covering our moth and nose. "What is that?" I asked. "Its what the Deities bestowed upon him..." One of the two old men answered. I then notice Le is still there sitting crossed leg on the floor. His face cringed then he said, "Smell... of Death." "But... isn''t that a fart?" Lord Pope is still there with his hands together in a prayer. "Shushed there John. This is a gift bestowed by up above. Now I tell you. Do you have a gift?" That made me speechless. "Now are both of you done yet?" Both Fuhrer Hitle and Isaac was silent until they begrudgingly nodded. We stayed there for an hout before the gas went away, swept by the wind, I suppose, or Le inhaled all of them. Then Fuhrer Hitle started his lecture. "I am Adolf Hitle. The Greatest Dictator throughout History. Now I will tell you how people works in the world." He told me both sides of the coin in a person. He said that good and bad does not define a person. The actions perceived by the others will define you. Whether good or bad doesn''t matter you do what you decided to do. Make your own resolve and others will follow I learned so much about his lecture. Occasionally we are interrupted because of Vur. It seems he gets hungry in these domain while I don''t get tired and hungry. So I request from the orb. I also notice the peculiar gaze Fuhrer Hitle had on Vur. "You want to pat him?" I asked him one time. His mouth just twitched and turned away shaking. Isaac came behind me and whispered, "He is an animal lover." That shocked me and then remembered this maniac is near Vur. So I pulled Vur away from him. After moving away, that''s when I comprehended what he just said. So that''s why. Chapter 3 So that''s why.

After reading it I was skeptical. So I probe Fuhrer Hitle, "Sir, are you an animal lover?" Fuhrer Hitle shook a little, his back facing me, "Nein." He said in a low voice. I never asked him afterwards but clearly he is an Animal Lover. Why would he be embarrassed about it? Fuhrer passed the stick to Brook Le. Now this next instructor seems to be straightforward. He stood up waving the stick, then the scenery changed. From the classroom to a scenery from a Mountain Peak. He then started doing strange actions and I just stood there looking at him. With a final move, a burst of air came from him. He pointed at me then at himself. "Follow." So I complied. He repeated the actions and I imitated him. He corrected any mishaps using the stick. For three days we we''re like that. My body may feel numb right now if I am not in this domain. Everything is so repetitive that it kinda make me feel sick. Then the fourth day came and Brook Le pointed at me and at himself again. "Battle." Without any warning he stepped forward and punched me in the stomach. That hurt so bad! "Think fast. Let body move." I never got what he said, but my body just move on its own. All those repetitive actions seems to have the potential to use in battle hand to hand. We exchange blows and he beat the crap out of me. I am always on the floor breathing heavily. I don''t get tired or exhausted in here, yes. But that doesn''t mean I don''t breathe. I always stood back up to have another round. As the endless round of battle keeps going on. I notice that my Arithmetic Eye now started computing the trajectory of every punch and kick. But sadly Brook Le seems to be holding back since the start and when my eye adjusts from his speed. It would suddenly increase.

Now the last trial.... "Congratulations. You have completed the first and second trial." The orb appeared in front of me. "What? What about Lord Pope?" "There is nothing for me to teach you John. With this Vur can be right here by my side always. Nice. "Its time for you to start." My body then started to fade away starting from my hand then spreading out my body. Now I can see what the other world looks like. "And one last thing John. Your Deity is ...." Then everything turned black. __________ Isaac''s P.O.V. The kid is gone now. Next would be the rewards. I saw as the stick from Brook Le floated and turned into a very beautiful woman. Blond hair, five facial features so perfect that may make anybody get attractive to and had their jaws dropped. But not me, my love is science and math. "Hello Guys! Thank you for teaching him." She said in a sweet voice. "Tsk! You took our souls in order for us to teach that brat?" She looked at me and giggled. "Well, his interesting right?" Yeah, that brat has potential. His like a sponge absorbing all the knowledge we had lectured to him. "Okay now to the main point. What rewards would you give us?" Fuhrer Hitle said. "Lets start then. What world would you reincarnate?" What? What did she just said? Fuhrer Hitle stood in attention when he heard it. Brook Le just stared at her and shaking. From what I see he is excited. This guy never really opens himself and because of that I can determine his own emotions with slight movements. "Ho ho ho. Now everything seems to be getting exciting. How about you give us the choices?" Then a blue window appeared in front of us. Now where is the world that has mana...... __________
