《Chronicles of Nick Holster》 Ch. 1 Prologue As i woke up to the sun shining in through my curtains i slowly woke up itching my eyes as i had fallen asleep really late dreading this day to come, slowly getting up from my wooden bed i look around me still the old cabin i¡äve been living in with my brother since our parents passed away, my room is really small with one wooden bed a nightstand next to it and barely any walking space inside , i quickly stand up & in a hurry throw myself into my clothes. It''s the day that i¡äve been dreading for the past year , the day of Examination entrance towards the Great School of Robert Trident. Every year all of those who are on their 12th year of age have the availibility of enrolling in the School of Robert Trident. Most Famous , Prestigious School in the whole Continent of Kulnin, the examination contained of testing your physical prowess , magical talent & Affinity. The reason why i had been dreading this day is due to my constant clumsyness & weak constitution, only the ones with above average levels in atleast one of the three subjects get accepted in my mind i had already failed even though begging my brother not to pay for my examine entrace fee which was around twelve silver coins which was our entire savings that we had saved past five years. As i walked out of my room past my brothers & into our living room which was smaller then our bedrooms which had a small table and two chairs next to it my brother is nowhere to be seen, i look around and see a small bowl of soup with small broken breadpieces lying next to it on the table & a note saying : ,,Nick i went out for firewood i probably won''t be back until later in the evening after the examinations have been finished so eat up you will need every bit of energy that you can get". Cursing my brother for using up our savings for the examination fee, we could have used that money to fix up our cabin or even saved more money to be able to buy a bigger one & i could have started to work with you cutting down tree¡äs & selling Firewood. My Brother Brad is Seventeen years of age, he has supported us for the past five years with chopping down Tree¡äs & making them into sizeable firewood for our neighbors, only bringing in total of measly twenty coppar coins per week, it was enough to keep us afloat. After eating my meal that my brother cooked for me i went outside, we lived at the edge of the forest near a riverbed with the nearest neighbor one mile away. I had to get going the exam time was closing in, hurrying myself over the bridge that was three miles down the stream, as i was walking through the suburbs of Talia " One of the Three Biggest Cities in the continent of Kulnin ,, Streets were filled with people walking towards the Academy grounds many of them were parents taking their 12 year old son or daughter towards the school. The Suburbs were mainly composed of shacks with a Log house inbetween , as further you got into the city you could start to see buildings made out of stone & bricks , in the middle of Talia was Small Castle , even though Talia is one of the three biggest Cities in Kulnin it was the smallest out of the three. As i walk towards the Academy grounds i see how many actually are waiting at the gates parents going with their childrens up towards the post Beside the gateway into the Academy grounds, seeing as that some people were straight ahead turned away from that point i start to get nervous, fidgeting along in the big queue that had appeared my palms sweating. The Queue slowly Dissipated , seems there were couple of Lines forming up by people towards the Post "Well Three to be Exact ,, as i wanted to blend in and disappear due to my nervousness i decided to take the middle queue line. My turn was finally up thinking to myself "This is such a waste of money we could have done something better with these twelve silver coins instead of taking this test,, already in my mind i felt like i failed already still walking through doors , inside it had three booths which made sense due to the Queue up lines that were outside. Walking towards the middle both i went inside & there was a Guard standing inside, a female one to top it off as i couldn''t stop ogling her chest after what it seemed like over fifteen minutes she sighed loudly , in a deep bass voice i was called upon. "Hey you there little Twerp are you just going to stare at my trophies all day long or are you going to take the test ?,, definitly not the first time that she had to respond like that. Her voice made me jump up as i was trying to find words to answer her with my brain had been scrambled with her comment on my ogling. After few minutes i answered her with a low tone of being ashamed "Yes i would like to take the test. ,, She put her palm out as a request for admission fee, i took out my small coin purse & took out twelve silver coins and handed over to her eagerly asking "were do i go now ?,, "Stay right there...." as she said that she picked up an Black Crystallized Orb. What is that ? i asked, "This is our new way of determining who are acceptable into our Academy & who are not, as you put your hands on the orb it will make this small plate of metal change colors according if you passed or not, thats why the admission fee is so cheap since we dont have to do ridiculus test like the past decades on determining peoples physical prowess , magical talent & affinity,, My mind already interested i put both of my hands on the Black Orb. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello all just to let you know my First language is not english & this is one of many stories that i wrote but actually the first one to have an Completed Prologue allways wanting to write my own world that my mind creates i hope that you will enjoy it as my brain laughed along few of the lines that were written. feel free to voice your thoughts over this story of mine & i hope we will have a long relationship together with this world :) Ch. 2 An Offer This Chapter will be short for now but just a bit to give you guys a teaser of what to come. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My mind already interested i put both of my hands on the Black Orb. - In that moment the Orb Started to glow with various colors, black , red & green. As i still held my hands to the orb the colors were captivating in a way that they starting to intertwine together growing brighter & brighter finally making it into a perfect whirlpool of color. Suddenly the orb became Black once more but a strange glow was behind it, Miss Trophies suddenly grabbed a cloth piece and covered the brightness that i did not know what it was "I will be back in a minute" Still stupefied over what happened i couldn''t stop the thought of so many colors coming out of that orb wondering what possibilities that meant for me if i would get accepted in the academy or not, hoping that the admission fee was worth it. My thoughts get interrupted by Miss Trophies & a Old Grampa walking into the booth "So this is the boy that had these results from our Orb of Aspects ?" Miss Trophies nodding towards the old grampa he walked towards my & handed out his hand in a friendly manner "Nice to meet you i''m Robert Trident the Owner & Headmaster of this academy, i see that you got particular Affinities Nick Holster" Hold on how did he know my name ? "Thank you i guess ?" Still Confused with what transpired, wondering if i got Accepted in or not. "As you see most people have only Affinity towards one elemental or non at all, Magic Casters only occur 1 out of every 100 , those who have one Elemental Affinity are useally 1 out of every 1000. So having an affinity towards an elemental is useally rare but its even rarer having Two Affinities which only happens one in every 100.000, you yourself have affinity towards three elementals which is a miracle compared to the fact that only 1 out of every 1 billion people would have a chance of getting that." My jaw dropped down to the information that he just gave me still in shock he kept on talking. "Your Affinities are Dark , Fire & Nature. As you might not know learning Dark spells have been forbidden since the war that transpired over 175 years ago. Then again if you would like we would be more then happy to accept you into our special ed for people with unnatural abilities." Me ? in Special Ed ? the Elites of the school ? "But im a Simple Commoner with no grasp of magic nor physical prowess?" Ch. 3 Decision My mind shocked by the simple fact that i would get all my living expenses paid along with the fact that i was confused by the Status plate something that i never seen before something that was put on a metal plate and you could look through the information about my strength & weaknesses i guess that i was somewhat special since i had affinity towards three Elementals even though i did not know what that changed, slowly regaining my composure i answered "Is there any problem if i would want to stay at my own house ?" "No not at all as long as you show up for classes on time , but then again your not allowed to borrow books out of the library outside of the campus. Well the only problem will be that you will not be paid any money through going to special ed, food expenses will be free through our schools cafeteria." Relieved having that question answered i replied in a glad tone "Then i definitely would want to accept the offer of joining Special Ed." Robert showed a big grin on his face like he just found a big treasure. "Here is your admittance paper for special ed signed by me, the School will be starting after the weekend just make sure to bring this paper to the Teachers Office. This Status Plate is yours to keep & is your Identification that you will need to show the guards to get inside the premises." Excitedly i smiled towards Miss Trophies & Robert nodding my head *along with glancing at those Huge Trophies of hers* hearing her sigh, i forgot that i did not ask her name at all. Shaking my head suddenly i rushed outside, the queue was still ongoing to the post outside of the school an was even longer then when i got there first, starting to run towards the exit of the city i was bursting in joy, Me ? Really me? i thought to myself i was going into Special ed class that i have never even heard of, well i did live a secluded live up until now pretty much other then having my brother around at morning & late afternoon. Slowly loosing my energy to keep on running i start to slow myself down and take a deep breath the excitement still running through the courses of my veins , i couldn''t wait to tell Brad about this he would definitely be ecstatic. As i find myself in front of our old cabin i notice that brad is already home smoke rising up from the chimney giving out a smell that i really enjoyed in the area, i walk inside i don''t see Brad at all, i check in his bedroom, there he is lying in his bed. Glad to hear how he responded but bit surprised he wanted me to stay at the dormitory "Have you eaten Brad? if not i will make us some food" He denied the fact of having eaten anything so i went out into the kitchen and fixed us some grub i still hadn''t eaten since this morning & the only thing i knew to make was a meat stew but the only meat we had at the moment was fish so i replaced the fish with the meat and starting cutting down vegetables that we had, onion , carrots , garlic , paprika & herbs. After finally getting the pot up to boiling point and adding the vegetables in it i slowly let the fire decrease, once it was at the verge of boiling again i kept the fire steady & adding the fish into the pot making it slowly simmer. Once the food was done i went to my brothers room and asked him if he wanted his food inside of his room agreeing about the idea of having his food served to him a brought him his portion & mine to his room and ate with him, the food was not something special but it worked even though my palate is not that much this food was heaven for me. ------------------------------------------ Heya people i hope that you''ve been enjoying the story as much as i have while i was writing it along with the factor that i will try to keep atleast 1 chapter every 1-2 days but later i will take it to 1 chapter per week. Please feel free to voice out your feelings im not afraid of constructive criticism Your Dear Writer - Garain Ch. 4 Shock The next morning i woke up stiff from the wooden bed, sun creeping inside of the tattered curtains, slowly wiping the gound out of my eyes. Suddenly hearing screams outside, it seems to be our neighbour Adam, not making any sense of why he sounds to be in a panicked state at this current moment so early in the morning. Especially on an sunday, putting my clothes on quickly i rush outside to see what the commotion is about, i see Jamie over at the edge of the forest his hands stuck on his head shaking it. I notice his Wife Cheryl is crouching besides him, i barely hear sobbing coming over there looking more carefully i see Cheryl crouching over someone that is lying down, not sure who it is. Adam suddenly turns towards my direction as he spots me his hands fall down from the top of his head limp his eyes loosing all emotions his face becoming paler with every second as he looks at me. I get a gut wrenching feeling that something horrible happened, not sure what to do standing there staring into Adam''s eyes for what looked like time had stopped, suddenly Adam snaps out of his daze crouches besides Cheryl and whispers into her ears. Cheryl slowly stood up walking towards me, while our eyes locked i noticed that her eyes were swollen looking like she had cried for hours, snotty nose her hair roughed up. As she reached in front of me grabbing my arms pulling me into her embrace still sobbing, whispering in my ear : Nick my boy i''m so terribly sorry. Sudden urge of crying explodes out of myself tears start streaming out of my eyes not knowing why, confused i get the urge to know exactly what had happened & why i¡äm so sad at this current moment. I Struggle out of Cheryl''s embrace & barely get from her i start sprinting towards where Cheryl was crouching before, getting closer & closer to the person that is lying down i can''t make it clearly out who it is but i see something sticking out of that persons body. As i get to that person i look at the object first that is sticking out of him it is a Gilded Tulwar. After looking at the Tulwar sticking out of the body i dry out the tears out of my eyes and start to look up towards the face of the person, emotions suddenly exploding out shock sadness anger anxiety frightened. Tears start pooring down my face like there is no other, it was my Brother Brad , Brad Holster loving and caring brother that has taken care of me & my upbringing , provided for us eating less himself letting me having bigger portions saying that i should eat enough to grow up faster & stronger. Why Brad ? why not me ? why did this have to happen to me ? i fall down onto my knees besides my brothers head huddling myself together with his head hugging him , bringing his head in my lap, emotions in my mind running wild crying to the point that i can''t cry anymore my eyes starting to dry up like the desert in the Western Lands of Vladin. Suddenly i stop feeling anything not being able to think at all, everything seeming to be a dream not believing that this has happened. Starting to feel everything spinning, my vision growing blurry & suddenly it hit, everything went black. Cheryl & Adam* It was early morning after being half awake all night long from the pain in my ligaments & hips, making breakfast for my adorable husband Adam. Nick had been just Seven years of age and not understanding much what happened so the first weeks Cheryl & Adam had taken them two under their wings like their own children, Brad had just been 12 years of age that year and was about to take the examination towards Robert Trident''s School, but with the unfortunate event''s he never got around doing it. Brad had gotten overly protective over his little brother wanting to provide the best he could for him not letting his passed away parents down, so Adam decided to help him out with starting to learn how to make & gather Firewood. All of the surrounding neighbours helped them to begin with food & clothing, buying the firewood from Brad & Adam. As Brad got older he started being more self sufficient & didn''t need Adam''s help anymore but then again Adam got allways up around this time to help him out for few hours Before he would need to go to work himself, Maintaining all public structures in the city. Adam was a simple Laborer but he got decent wages that let him live comfortable life with his Wife Cheryl in the edge of the forest outside of the city. Cheryl herself had stayed home after her mid 30¡äs as she started to be in more & more pain and could not do much other then take of their household. After sitting down in the dining room it was simple porridge with bread & eggs for breakfast. "Adam isn''t it time to get going & help Brad ?" *"Yeah he should be arriving anytime soon" In that moment Adam finished his sentence yells could be heard outside of the house startling Cheryl & Adam *"Stay inside i will check what is happening" Just as Adam was getting himself ready everything went quiet , putting his boots on walking outside checking the surroundings he does not spot anything at first but then suddenly see''s something stick out of the ground thinking it was odd Adam walked over to check it out. hearing small groans as he got closer & closer, just as he was getting closer he realised it was Brad that was lying down there and something sticking out of his chest he rushed over noticing it was a Gilded Tulwar that was stuck within his Chest blood leaking out of the corners of his mouth. In a Panick he Screams : "CHERYL!!!!!!!!!!" *"What happened my boy ? who did this to you ?" Brad started coughing up blood having hard time trying to speak so Adam took him in his lap and raised his head up. **"They finally came back to clean all loose ends, *Cough* Please don''t ask anymore about it just promise me one thing make Nick go to school no matter what & please try to look after him if needed." As Brad spoke his last words his body suddenly went limp, Brad Holster had died. *"Cheryl Get over here Now!!!!!".
