《The Light We Saw That Day》 Chapter 1: The Rise Even The Mountains Can not Reach The Sky . ----- Under the night sky, in the depths of a forest, an elderly woman spoke. Her words were caught by the ears of a young girl. "Nabi, come closer to the fire. You will catch a cold." The elderly woman gestured for the young girl to move closer to the distant camp fire. Mists formed under Nabi''s breath as she walked towards the elderly woman and the warm camp fire. Her footprints formed on the white snow that covered the land. Just as quickly as it was formed, it dissapeared. The rain of snow covered her tracks. Under the protection of towering trees, dozens of people gathered together under several huge camp fire. Nabi found her new seat several feet away from the camp fire. Next to her, a woman with covered in wrinkles rubbed her stiff hands together trying to warm them up. "Grandma, look." The child spoke as she pointed her pale finger toward the night sky. The elderly woman shifted her gaze upon the night sky that Nabi pointed towards. "Ho..." The elderly woman gasped. The view was breathtaking. The starry sky, along with the tiny drops of snow that fell from it complimented each other. To the people present, the sky was something that could not be touched. It was vast and boundless, much like their dreams. This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it. Everyone has a dreams, but we can not touch our dreams. It exist only within our mind and heart. To turn our dream into reality, how hard would it be? Living a comfortable life with everything we would ever want. Is that a dream? Or, would it be to lives happy and healthy life together with your loved ones? As simple as it sounds, not everyone can turn their dreams into reality. Some have dreams that are no different from fantasy. Others simply give up too early. If you were given the chance to realize any dream, would you take it? A faint streak of light flew across the sky and faded. The dozens of people sitting beneath the trees saw it. There eyes widened with amazement. What could that have been? None of them knew. It was there first time experiencing such a thing. That night millions of people across the continent who saw the shooting star made wishes and prayed. During hard times people make wishes. They put their dreams into that wish. Hoping, one day, it will come true. Nobody knows how it happened. Nobody knows when it happened. A tower rose from ground, pierced the sky, and touched the very heavens. Words were carved into the gigantic doors of the tower. Whatever that you desire, ''that'' is here. Everyone dissapeared into the tower. Chapter 2 Under the tree that once shielded the snow for dozens of people, a young girl slept. Her body curled up from the cold. A powerful wind gusted against the tree above her, causing piles of snow to fall from the rustling leaves, and descend upon the girl. Nabi winced as piles of snow struck against her body. A sharp sensation stung her face, a feeling akin to that of a needle piercing her skin. She wiped her cheeks with her arm, as she struggled to move her stiff body. It was strangely cold. She remembered sleeping next to a warm camp fire. It shouldn''t be so cold she thought. She shifted her head to check the camp fire, nothing was there. Once more, she shifted her head and searched her surroundings. Nothing, she saw nothing. There was no fire to keep her warm. There were no people to welcome her. Her heart sped up, as she stood up and began to run around. No matter where she went, she could not find anything. Not even the animals that inhabited the forest. "Is anyone here?!¡± A frantic yell escaped her pale lips, accompanied by a moist mist. Several minutes passed, yet there was no response. From the east, the sun steadily rose from the horizon. Where did everyone go? Nabi ran back to the area she fell asleep at. Her legs gave in, the moment she arrived. She felt exhausted. Her breathing became irratic. Fear encased her confused mind. She layed down on the bed of snow that covered the forest in its entirety. She stayed still, with her knees tucked between her arms. Her gaze wondered around, as she pondered about where everyone could have went. A bit of luggage still remained. Mostly covered in snow, the luggage was hard to see. For the luggage to have gathered so much snow. How many hours had passed since the owners left them unattended? The whole forest was encompassed with snow. Everything was white. As snow began to pile up on her body, her gaze fell on a peculiar spot. An almost unnoticeable opening in the snow. Immediately, she rose from her position, and worked her way towards it. Her movement was hindered because of the amount of snow. But she managed to make her way, very quickly. A familiar face stuck out from the opening in the snow. Her heart clenched as sudden realization struck her. Nabi''s body burst forward, and began to dig the body out of the snow. Her eyes blurred. Tears formed in her small pair of eyes. "Grandma..." Her arms dug faster, with every preceding dig. "Grandma..." Her faint voice carried within it, the emotions that swelled her heart. Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation. Nabi grabbed the arms of her Grandma and pulled. Her frozen hands refused to gather strength. Tears began to overflow as she realized she couldn''t grab onto her Grandma''s arm. She lowered her torso and put her arms under her grandmother''s armpit, and pulled. She struggled to keep her arms still. She feared for the life if her grandmother. With one last pull, she finally pulled her grandmother out. The lower body of the elder was completely frozen. With a trembling voice, she began to wake her grandmother. "Grandma, wake up! Wake up!" Nabi''s hand gently shook the shoulders of the elderly woman. "Nabi..." Her grandmother replied, her eyes still closed. Her voice was barely discernable, Nabi struggled to listen to her words. "There is a tower..." Nabi didn''t say anything, she concentrated on listening to her words. "You must go there. Go-" Her words fell short and did not continue. Nabi kept calling for her grandmother, but not a single response was heard or seen. She died. Nabi knew, but refused to believe it. She spent the next few days talking to her grandmother''s deceased corpse. ¡±Grandma, I¡¯m sorry.¡± Nabi¡¯s weary eyes stared at the cold snow below her. Nabi constantly whispered towards her grandmother. Expressing her regret and self loathing. Her grandmother took care of her since she was young, but she couldn¡¯t do the same for her grandmother. Nabi flung her arms in anger and swept the snow around her, creating a mess. She yelled out to vent out her frustration. She felt so pathetic. Nabi hugged her grandmothers frozen corpse and cried. In this cold world only she knew how much her grandmother cared for her. With every passing day, every passing minute, every second, her chest grew tighter. Every word that left her pale lips, and every thought that crosses her aching mind, her hopes shriveled up. Nabi buried the frozen corpse of her grandmother, under the snow covered tree that sheltered her from the snow. Nabi sat next to the grave and stared at the sheet of snow under her and bowed down. With her pale fingers, she wrote something on the sheet of snow and bowed. She stood up, and walked towards the structure in the far distance. Thank You, Rest In Peace Grandmother. Along with Nabi''s figure in the distance, the words she carved into the sheet of snow slowly faded away under the falling snow. Chapter 3 The tower gates opened, a young girl with beautiful black hair and pale skin walked in. Her eyes darted around the room, searching for people, but nothing came into sight. The young girl was the only one in the room. The area of the room far surpassed that of any room she had seen. Not a single pillar stood to support the weight of the cieling. In the middle of the room, a crystal orb stood atop a giant, stone tablet. The young girl hastened her steps and sprinted towards it. Within a few feet distance between herself and the orb, the stone pedestal rumbled. Strange lines appeared all over the pedestal, and formed bricks. The bricks shifted and formed a wide stariway. The young girl stood with her mouth slightly open, as she stared at the stairs that once was a pedestal. She had never experienced such a possibility in her life, until now. Her legs trembled, as she slowly set her foot atop the first stair. Each step of the stairway were 12 inches tall. She struggled to get herself up to the top. Her breathing became heavy, the stairway was just too long. With every passing pair of stairs, her body grew heavier. The young girl''s legs were shaking just from supporting her weight to stand up. The moment she stopped, the stairs behind her began to crumble and turn to dust, starting from the very first step. An expression of disbelief covered her face. Immediately, she gathered her strength on her legs and ran up the remaining steps. A thousand steps, and still, the a million more. The girls face paled, a fiery sensation burst throughout her calves and thighs. Her speed reduced, dramatically, and her breathing was heavier than before. The steps behind her continued to collapse. Everytime she stopped, the steps would collapse faster. She had ran up hundreds of steps, yet the orb was still so far away. The distance between her and the orb seemed endless. "Urgh..." Her legs hurt so much, but she had to continue up the stairway. The collapsing steps shortened the distance, 4 steps at a time. Four thousand steps, by this time, her legs were unstable. The power in her legs gave out, and she tripped over a step. Her body heavily fell upon the stairway. The impact knocked the air out of her lung. The steps behind her began to collapse with tremendous speed. Fifty steps collapse within five minutes. At this rate, the collapsing steps will catch up, and she will fall to her death. The floor had long since dissapeared, along with the first step of the stairway. The only thing she could see, was an endless space with nothing in it. The author''s content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon. Fear struck her heart. She did not want to end up down there. She had so many things she wanted to do. Her once again muster her strength into her legs, and began to crawl on all four. An hour passed. By this time, the orb was but a few steps away. The young girls body collapsed onto the last few steps between herself and the orb. Her throat was soar from breathing in huge quantities of air at once. Her legs felt numb, and did no respond. Her arms were covered with cuts and bruises. The young girl could barely move. Her whole body was in so much pain, she felt like clawing her eyes out of their sockets. Blood shot eyes stared at the orb that was a dozen steps ahead of her. It slightly trembled, and a tiny fracture appeared, slowly growing in size. Why? Why? Why? Her mind was riddled with questions. Why is this happening? Why is the orb cracking? A dangerous sensation filled her heart. She didn''t know why, but sight of the orb cracking caused her to feel very uncomfortable. The young girl dragged her body up the remaining steps. With the last of her remaining strength, her fingers clawed onto the last step. A sigh escaped her lips and her pale expression lightened, just a little. She made it, all she needed to do was take the last step. Her body refused to move once more. Her vision was hazy, and her muscles relaxed. She couldn''t move, or muster any strength. "A little rest..." She whispered. "Just a little rest." She was completely exhausted. Her body longed to rest. She could no longer force her body to keep moving up the stairs. Her neck gave out, and her head fell down. Her head hit nothing, the cold, stone step that should have met her head, was no longer there. The collapsing steps caught up. Her body fell towards the bottomless abyss beneath her. Once last time, she opened her eyes to look at the orb. It was gone. The orb shattered into tiny fragments, and the tiny fragments turned into dust. This fragile orb, gave her the feeling that she had to reach it. Why was the orb so important, anyway? Why did she struggle so hard just to reach it? Her eyelids twitched, and slowly began to close. Everything felt so slow, everything seemed to slow down. The speed in which the last step shrunk from her view slowed down. The last step finally reached its end, and nothing but the young girl was in the space. Her body continued to fall, at a rapid pace. Right at the moment the lids of her eyes were about to meet, she saw it. A light so faint, it was barely discernable, yet it was so intense. It flickered, and dissapeared as her eyes closed. --- Is the story enjoyable? Kind of curious. Chapter 4 In the dimensional space of the first floor, a young girls body floated around. Her arms and legs were covered with cuts and bruises. Her body was exhausted from the running up thousands of steps, she was in deep sleep. Within her mind, a mysterious voice resounded. "Nabi..." The mysterious voice spoke. The voice held no emotion, or any hints of gender related traits. "Nabi!" Once more, it spoke. When the the mysterious entity spoke, her eyes twitched, as she heard the voice. With the second call, the young girl''s eyes shot open. After opening, her eyes wander around in the endless space around her. "Nabi!" A voice resounded, the sheer intensity of the voice caused the young girl to cover her ears and squint in pain. Someone was calling for her. Who was it? She did not recognize the voice. It did not belong to anyone she remembered. "Who is it? Who is calling me?" Nabi spoke, her voice trembled, afraid of the unknown and her current predicament. Her eyes darted around her, trying to find traces of the owner of the voice. She saw nothing. Nothing but empty space around her. Nabi began to wonder if she was hearing this. There was absolutely nothing around her, how could she hear someones voice calling for her? Her mind drifted away in her thoughts. At this moment, a faint whisper entered her ears. "Accept me..." Something spoke. The sudden voice scared her out of her thoughts, and her body squirmed around with suprise. "Who''s there?" Nabi couldn''t explain what was happening. Her mind tried to find a possible answer, as she lacked knowledge and experience, she could not come up with an answer. She began to shrivel in fear, fear of the unknown. "Accept me..." The voice did not respond, it just repeated the same words. Nabi constantly looked around, looking for who or whatever was talking to her, but could not find anything. No matter how hard she tried, no matter how many times she tried, she couldn''t find it. She couldn''t see it, but she could feel it. Something touched her. Nabi tried to run away from whatever touched her, but she couldn''t walk in the empty space. There was no solid footing in this place. Her attempts only made her wiggle around. "Ah! Don''t hurt me! Please!" She pleaded. Tears slowly formed in her eyes. "Accept me..." It spoke. Nabi didn''t understand why the voice wanted her to accept it. Out of desperation and fear, her mind couldn''t think of any other choice but to do what the voice wanted. "Okay! I accept! I accept you." Her voice was quiet, but it held a little resolve. The air around her violently swirled and entered Nabi''s body, through her forehead. Suprisingly, Nabi didn''t feel anything painful during the process. Her body felt much better than it was before. Her injuries were quickly healing, and she could feel that her body was much stronger than it ever was. Nabi floated in the empty space, absolutely confused. She could not comprehend anything that had just happened. Everything that happened within this tower, was something beyond her knowledge and experience. "Hello." A creepy voice resounded within her head. Nabi''s body jumped in suprise, yet again. Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site. "Hi?" She responded, unsure of what to do anymore. "Nabi, nice name. Mhm, a nice face, too. Good, good." The creepy voice spoke. Nabi didn''t know how to reply, she chose to stay silent. Nabi chose to not think too much about what was happening, she couldn''t possibly find the answer to all her questions by thinking about something she didn''t even know a single thing about. "Ugh..." Fustration hit her. No matter how hard she tried to stay calm, it was hard for her mind to take everything in. Tears slowly slid down her cheeks, and dissapeared somewhere in the endless space. A few moments later, Nabi settled down and she stopped crying. Her body relaxed, and she stared at the endless space in front of her. She had no idea what to do now. She was stuck in a place she didn''t know how to escape. During this moment of confusion, she realized something very important. Where did the voice go? "Hello?" Nabi decided to call out to the voice. Perhaps it knew something about the place she was in. "What?" A creepy voice responded. "Are you-" Nabi was cut off before she could finish. The voice spoke. "You want to get out of here right? Haha. Before I tell you how, we need to do something." Nabi didn''t know if she could trust the voice, but it was her only hope. She obediently listened. "First, you need to break the seals placed upon your soul. Looks like something is supressing your very existence, trying to seal it away, but it isn''t strong enough." A solemn voice spoke. Of course, Nabi couldn''t not understand what he was saying, but decided to go along with whatever it was suggesting. "Ok." The voice offered to help, and began to break the seals. "This is!" With those words, the voice started to maniacally laugh. "Haha, I see, I see! The origin of the seals, haha. You sealed yourself? Why?" It spoke. "I don''t know" Nabi simply responded. "Well, whatever. It''s okay, soon we will all know! Haha!" An esctastic voice spoke. Within a tenth of a second, a massive shock wave spread, with Nabi as its origin. The surrounding space rumbled, and cracks began to appear in the middle of the air. A powerful whirlpool of energy began to swirl around Nabi''s body. An incredibly loud explosion boomed across the endless space containing Nabi and the mysterious voice. Overlapping the great explosion, a voice resounded. Strangely, the voice was clear and could be heard over the great explosive sounds in the area. "You should repay this favor, and help one of my clan members climb the tower. Here he is, second floor, testing ground one. Perfect. I''ll bring you there." An illusory body appeared out of nowhere, and waited for the explosive energy in the area to settle down. Once it did, the illusory body flicked it''s wrist, and Nabi''s body dissapeared. Following Nabi''s dissappearance, he stroked his beard, and gazed off at the distance. A nostalgic expression appeared on his aged face. "Good to have you back." While laughing, the illusory body walked off and dissapeared. Chapter 5 Deep within an ancient tomb, mana gathered in its purest form. Condensing in the center of the tomb. The air swayed, making way for the powerful energy to gather. The air began to tremble, and slight cracks formed on the surrounding walls of stone. The stones began to wither away as mana grew dense enough to become visible. Specks of dust fell from the ceiling, as the material crumbled, and spread another layer of dust on the floor. The soft glow of the moon quietly seeped through the newly formed cracks, revealing a motionless body laying inside a huge crater. A young woman''s figure covered in her own dry blood became visible, as the soft glow of the moon lit up the room. The source of the blood: an ominous sword stabbed into her abdomen. The blade of the sword gently curved from the mid section, and a black glow emenated from the blade. Dry blood decorated the sword, all over. The sword pulsed, and a gentle wave of mana seeped out of it and entered the still body it was connected to. The gathered energy in the room trembled, and took the form of a sphere before enveloping the life less body in the tomb. Her fingers shook, and her chest heaved. Breathe after breathe, exited her slender frame. By the fifth breathe, her eyes opened. Black eyes, resembling the color of her hair, pierced the dimly lit room. "A dream. . ." She spoke. Her beautiful face creased in confusion. The memories of her dream flooded her mind. Then, her expression changed to that of sorrow.Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings. ". . . Of the past." A weak and trembling voice, much different from her previous tone, escaped from her parting lips. A single drop of tear trailed along her smooth, pale skin. Despite her previous state, her body was perfectly preserved by the remnant energy from her powerful soul. Her eyes trailed the dim light coming from the cracks on the cieling. Slowly, she reached out for the source of the light, trying to grasp for something. The mana surrounding the area danced between her fingers, in the shape of a small butterfly. The red glow of her mana reflected off the ominously glowing blade still stuck in her abdomen. Like a beacon, it attracted the woman''s eyes. Her hand unsteadily traveled toward the swords hilt, and gripped the cold surface. She pulled the sword out. The wound healed instantly. Not even the blood on her body remained. Everything dissapeared as if it never happened. She dropped the sword next to her, and continued to stare at the light peeking through the gaps in the cieling. Only a single thought remained in her mind. "I''m alive." She certainly died that day. Killed because of a single mistake she made during the fight. The enemy was powerful. It only took a single strike, penalizing one very small mistake she made, to break through her defenses. Despite her previous emotional outbreak, she didn''t dwell on the emotions or thoughts for long. Her emotions settled down, and her mind moved on. In the midst of her thoughts, she sensed a familiar energy calling out for her. It felt like warm breeze gently blew from a specific location. She could sense the location without putting much thought into finding it. The energy had been calling out for her, even before she regained her life. Until now, she didn''t notice. Whether her senses have grown dull, or not, she did not know. After a brief moment, she stood up and steadied herself. Her hands moved to reorganize her clothes. The holes that riddled her black robe repaired itself in seconds. A red streak ran through her black robe, adding a sense of vulnerability to the on looker. The streak gave off the strange feeling of being watched by something very sinister. It felt as if something was lurking in the dark areas of the robe. On her palm, a thin strip of red material formed out mana. She used it to raise her hair before departing.
