《Two Minds Are Better Than One》 Prologue: His First Steps Author''s Note: Hello to those reading this! I''m still inexperienced with this whole writing thing, and would very much appreciate it if you could give me pointers and help me improve. ----------------------------------------- *UNKOWN LOCATION* "God my head! Did I get roofied or something?" Alex asked himself, attempting to understand what had happened to him. "Is this what getting roofied feels like? I mean, I was curious what it felt like, but if this is what it''s like then I don''t want to experience that kind of thing." Alex complained. With his vision no longer blurry and adjusted slightly to the dark of the room he was in, Alex decided to look around for any possible exits. "Looks like I''m in an old stone building or something." Alex pointed out to himself. Looking around some more he noticed a small ray of light shining through what looked to be a crack. Still unsteady on his feet, Alex slowly made his way over to the ray of light. Upon closer inspection the crack seemed to be a gap in-between some old planks. Curious, Alex tried to pry the planks off of whatever it was they were covering. With a few pulls the boards of wood fame flinging off, carrying Alex along with them. With the planks gone the light was able to brighten the room, at the costs of Alex''s eyes. "Shit! My eyes!" Alex screamed dramatically while covering his eyes. After rolling on the floor in over exaggerated pain, Alex decided to check what the source of light was. If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it''s taken without permission from the author. Report it. "That''s the sun... I think." Alex wasn''t entirely sure, as what he saw was bigger and red. He was almost certain that the sun wasn''t supposed to look like that. "Well I guess I''m not in Kansas anymore." Alex said while looking away from the "sun" and checking out his surroundings. He noticed that he was on the second floor of what earlier had earlier guessed was an old stone house. Other than that he also noticed that the house he was in was surrounded by stone houses very much like this one. "Not very modern is it?" Alex mused. Deciding he had seen enough, Alex turned his attention to the room he was in. Now that it was brightened up Alex instantly noticed a couple things. "This the owner of the house?" Alex asked while examining an old skeleton huddled in a corner. "Guess things didn''t end well for him." After giving a small prayer for the unfortunate person, alex turned towards the other thing that he saw. "Let''s just hope this door leads to the first floor." Alex said while opening and walking out of said door. With his first step out the door the floor, which was made out of wood, creaked a bit but Alex assumed that was because it was settling. The assumption didn''t prove to be right as the floor broke causing Alex to fall through. "FUUUUUUUU-AGH!" Alex screamed on his way down to the first floor. Prologue 2: Her First Steps Author''s Note: Hello to the few that have bothered to read this! I have many apologies and promises I would like to make but will not, for I have no guarantee that I will not break them and just have to apologize again! For now just attempt to put and hostility aside and enjoy the chapter. -------------------------------------- It was bright, despite the fact she was supposed to be in her room. She didn''t want to open her eyes to see what was causing the light, fearing that someone had kidnapped her and was examining her. She just laid there hoping that something would happen to indicate otherwise, and it came. *WOOSH* A strong breeze of wind which pointed to her being outside, but not why. Gathering a small amount of courage, she opened eyes. What she saw was blue and white. ''Sky.'' Alex thought. It was quite a weird sky, as the shade of blue seemed to be slightly off somehow. Maybe it was a bit too blue? She didn''t know. Figuring that she wasn''t being experimented on at least, she sat up to examine her surroundings. ''High'' Was what came to Alex''s mind. She appeared on a tower, and quite a tall one. She could see for miles, but all she saw were forests. Determining that she most likely wasn''t in her room anymore, she stood up to peer over the edge of her tower. ''Really high''. Alex was indeed very high up. She couldn''t judge the distance, but she tell that the tower was very old by the state of it. There chunks missing here and there, and what looked to be stairs that had been whittled away by time. ''Too far. Can''t survive the fall.'' Alex was sure she wouldn''t be able to make it down like that, even with her abilities. She would have to figure out another way down. A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation. *CRAAAAACK* Though it sounded like she was running out of time. *CRUMBLE* The tower had shifted, leaving Alex suspended in the air for a second before she crashed down onto the floor roughly. She didn''t expect it so she was left winded from it, causing her to lose precious seconds of time. ''Need to move.'' Alex thought urgently. She desperately stood up and rushed to the edge of the platform atop the tower. She hugged onto the decorative pillar as if it was her lover, and steeled herself for the fall. *CRUMBLE* There was another breakage in the tower, leaving it unsupported on one side. The tower couldn''t hold and it began to crack and tilt. It was falling. It wasn''t even seconds before the top of the tower had ripped itself from it''s body and began it''s free fall of destruction. ''Not yet'' Alex told herself. She had to time it right or this would be the end for her. The top was nearing the ground. ''Now!'' Alex screamed in her head. She jumped. She had prepared herself for it and was sure she wouldn''t come out unscathed, but she could only hope the injuries weren''t severe enough to kill her. She didn''t have time to look back and check if she was going to make it far enough, she had to focus. Focus. She concentrated on herself, as if trying to slow her descent by pure will. Most would think that such a thing wouldn''t work, and that she was only going to die doing foolish thing. Those people wouldn''t be able to believe their eyes. She was slowing down. It wasn''t enough though. The landing was still going to heavy, but she couldn''t slow herself anymore than she already had. he only thing she could think to do was tuck, roll, and hope she didn''t die. Chapter 1: Picking Up Where We Fell Off "Paaaaiiinnn..." Alex groaned as he laid on the ground. Alex remained in his position of exaggerated agony for a minute, befor reluctantly getting up to check for injuries. Giving himself a good feel for his body, he found that he hadn''tbroken anything or been stabbed by any of the debris. "I''m not that heavy am I?" Alex asked the floor as he examined the drop. It looked to be 10 or so feet high. Moving on from that, Alex turned his attention to the place he had fallen. It wasn''t dark like upstairs, as none of the windows on this floor seemed to be boarded up. The scenery was that of an old run down house, as it should be. "Nothing interesting? Moving on then." Alex murmured before beginning his search for a door of some kind, preferrably of the exit variety. Alex went from room to room, finding a kitchen, bathroom, andstudy (If you could call a room containing nothing but an old chair andless than ten books a study). A door on the oppisite side of the door Alex used to enter the "study", was another door. Having checked every other door on the first floor, he figured this was the way out.A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation. The door, however, lead to yet another room. It looked like a room dedicated to being an entrance. "Who has a room like this?" Alex criticized on his way out the actual exit. What met Alex''s sight upon exiting was a cobble street in the middle of wood and cobble houses. It fit the image of an fantasy town almost perfectly. The only thing different, was the odd sense of order. Every stone of the road looked likethey were set randomly, but gave off the impression they were anything but. This applied to the houses as well. The feeling was slightly discomforting, but nothing too bad. Ignoring his discomfort, Alex started walking towards what looked to be a large tower, somewhere near the center of the town or city. He made it at most 100 feet before something moving caught his attention. It was the tower. But towers weren''t usually supposed to lean like that, and most certainly not snap in half like that. Alex would stay and watch the tower collapse like it was 9/11, but it was doing it in his general direction. "FUCK YOU GRAVITY!" Alex shouted as he ran in the opposite direction, attempting to avoid either the tower itself, or the cloud of dust its collapse would kick up.
