《The Battlemage [FINISHED]》
A Second Chance - Chapter 1
After years of training in the arts of magic, Doccor hit the age of 60. He was stumped. He couldn''t get any farther in life as his body was old and unexercised. This was due to his arrogance.
Doccor believed magic could do anything and everything. He never spent a moment to exercise his body and was now too old to. In this world, it was the strong who held the hierarchy. In battle, Doccor couldn''t do anything as soon as his enemy was in close range.
Doccor lay on the ground bleeding, rethinking his life. His enemy got too close and destroyed Doccor. He regret everything. Training only his magic, never his body.
''Thinking about them will do nothing to change it. Better to embrace death than regret.'' Doccor soon passed away forever. At least his body did.
Doccor awoke to find himself in a cave. Next to him was a crystal blue lake. On the other, the exit.
''How did I get here?'' Doccor looked down at his body only to find it was not his. Doccor, trained in the arts of all magic could guess that his soul survived and transferred to a vacant body. Although a soul transfer wasn''t tried, it wasn''t impossible. Doccor was grateful for this.
Putting it at that, Doccor stood up to have a good look around. While taking a tour, he noticed something off about his memories. He had claimed the owner of the bodies memories.

After brushing through the memories, Doccor gained a large amount of insight on this world. It wasn''t his own. The major difference was that there were monsters who inhabited this world. The ones that Doccor had seen in the books he used to read in his freetime. These monsters ranged from goblins to dragons. There were also gods, but that was out of Doccor''s league.
Once settled, Doccor sat down next to the lake. It was cool and refreshing. He then checked his status which was a thing in this world.

''Compared to all those pathetic stats, vitality is quite high with pain resistance.'' Doccor knew from the memories that the owner of this body was a slave. He was treated very horribly.
Doccor took of his tattered shirt and felt his chest. There were scars all over. You could almost see the ribs as well.
Doccor crossed his legs and closed his eyes. This was a trick he learned back then. He sensed the mana lingering in the air around him and willed it to gather in his body.
Although hard at first with this weak body, he managed. A small portion of the mana in the air entered his body and Doccor spread it to his vital organs. This would rejuvenate him the same way eating would do therefore he wouldn''t have to eat or drink.
Although taking away the need for sleep was possible, he didn''t have enough power in his current state. That would come at a later date.

''First things first, I must sleep. This body is worn out.'' Doccor lay on the floor of the cave and drifted away to sleep.
He would not waste this second chance.
First Encounter - Chapter 2
Doccor had a nightmare in his sleep. He was stuck in a pitch black world with constant whispering in his head. This was the cause of the dark arts.
Doccor got off his back and pushed the nightmare into the farthest depths of his mind. He then stripped and had a bath in the lake. A bath was a rare privilege as Doccor''s timetable had no breaks. This was another regretful decision.
Once finished with the bath, Doccor used his dirty shirt to dry himself. He put on his pants and walked towards the entrance of the cave.
''I should probably check my location.'' On the outside, it was a rainforest for as far as the eye could see. It was a beautiful scene for Doccor. He almost teared up but kept it inside.
Doccor deemed it was safe and sat down next to the lake. He concentrated, pulled the mana inside his body to his hands and tried to create a ball of mana. It didn''t work. The mana wouldn''t leave his body. Doccor would have to practice this more often. His body wasn''t used to it.
Doccor wouldn''t only train his magic. He''d faced the consequences before. After trying to make a mana ball a dozen times with little progress, he gave up for now.
Based on Doccor''s memories, the monsters on this world were savage creatures with little intelligence. ''If I want to survive, I will have to train my body as well. Maybe... A combination of magic and melee weapons?'' Doccor felt a switch click in his head. He''d definitely try this. ''I will need to train at least 2 or 3 years to be prepared.'' Doccor was going to try his hardest.
Doccor went down with his chest on his floor. He tried to do a push up but when he pushed with his hands, he couldn''t lift his body. ''How am I supposed to train like this?'' Thats when Doccor remembered he had 15 stat points. He instantly spent all 15 to strength.

Doccor tried to do a push up again to find it was easy to do a full push up.
Doccor exercised for 2 hours. He stopped when he heard a crack along with sharp pain to his left arm. He had earned 3 points to strength, 1 to agility and vitality. It was a good gain.
By meditating, Doccor learned his left arm was fractured. The bones were too weak. Doccor left to the forest and looked for a large leaf. Once finding a tree with wide leaves, Doccor wrapped the leaf around his shoulder and left arm. It would work as a substitute sling for now.
As Doccor was about to head back, he heard scuffling around the trees to his right. As he switched his vision towards the sound, he saw an ugly green humanoid walking towards him. Above its head, showed
''Goblin Warrior LVL.8''
It had a sword in its left hand. Doccor could notice dried blood covering the sword. He wasn''t sure he could battle the goblin in his current state so ran back to the cave. The unfortunate thing was, the goblin was as fast as him meaning he couldn''t avoid a fight.
Doccor spun around and circulated mana to his arms and legs. Although he couldn''t make spells outside his body, he could harden and enhance from the inside.
The goblin, unexpecting the sudden stop, stumbled and fell over for a couple of seconds. Doccor used this opportunity to take the initiative. He ran towards the goblin, jumped upwards and drop kicked its head.
(-19HP) (Stun)
This was new to Doccor. His previous world didn''t have such a system. Doccor sent a flurry of strikes with his right arm to the goblins face and stomach, giving a new black and blue color to the goblin.
(-11HP) (-9HP) (-13HP)
Before Doccor could connect his fourth strike, the goblin had regained its senses and swung at his hand with its sword, cutting his left hand in half and grazing his chest.
(-45HP)
The pain was unreal for Doccor. Although the pain resistance helped, he used to have the maximum level for it in his previous world. He wasn''t used to so much pain.
As Doccor''s adrenaline climbed, the goblin got ready for a second swing. Before the goblin could hit, Doccor sent a kick at the goblin, pushing it back for a moment,p. In this moment, Doccor took a step to its side and held his hand under the upper part of the goblins left arm, raised his leg over the lower part and swung downwards with his leg, breaking the goblins arm.
(-56HP) (Stun) (Disabled) (Bleed) (-3HP)
The goblin let out an extremely high pitched scream and dropping its sword. Doccor grabbed the sword from the ground and charged at the goblin. The sword pierced its chest and Doccor continued rushing until the goblin slammed into a tree, pinning it.
(-34HP) (Bleed) (-3HP) (-3HP)
As Doccor left the goblin stuck to the tree with the sword piercing its chest to the tree bark, he took a breather.
(-3HP) (-3HP)
Doccor truly hated this goblin. To give Doccor such pain was the same as rebelling against thegods. At least in Doccor''s mind.
(-3HP) (DEAD)
The struggling of the goblin disappeared and it hung lifelessly off the tree.
''That was dangerous. It seems like levelling up fixes you.'' Doccor looked at his left hand. It was completely healed.
Doccor took the sword out of the goblins chest and went back to the cave without looking back.
Doccor arrived at the cave and examined the sword. Unfortunately, there was no appraisal system. The sword Doccor held was a plain old schmitar with no special designs. Although slightly blunt, it was acceptable at the moment.
Doccor left the cave and practiced the sword on the nearest tree while trying to push mana out into his hands in the form of a ball.
This went on for hours.
Interference - Chapter 3
It was another nightmare, worse than the others. Doccor dreamt of his family, only to see them torn apart by demons. He''d have to stop sleeping soon.
Doccor woke up, drenched in sweat. Doccor placed the nightmare deep down, never to be found. He took a quick bath and continued training. It had been 2 months since he met that goblin. Doccor had made a dummy out of wood to practice his swordsmanship and a rock wall to practice magic on. Since Doccor knew in-depth magic, he mainly focused on his melee capabilities. He was still using the schmitar from that goblin.
In the past two months, Doccor sometimes went out to kill goblins, but that was only when Doccor was 100% sure of his survivability.
Doccor became much more powerful. ''Whoops. I should get another log. Maybe look for some goblins?'' Doccor had accidentally chopped off the wooden dummy''s head.
Doccor left the cave once again.
At the same time,
"Parker, lets get going. I''d rather not stay here at night." This group of adventurers was currently taking a quest they saw in town. It was placed by some people who''d rather stay anonymous. The quest was to find and burn an ''evil mage''. The last sitings were in the Azulian Forest, where Doccor currently took residency.
"Alright, alright. I''ll go." Parker got off the ground of the (used to be) camp, stuffing his mouth with the bread in his hands.
"Jeez, you eat too much. Lets go people. Wanna get the reward as soon as possible." The leader of this group assembled the 4 adventurers and head deeper into the Azulian Forest.
On the way, this group saw some chopped trees, dead goblins and the such. They could only guess this was the evil mage''s doing. You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.
"Lets follow these tracks. They may lead us to the culprit." The leader and the rest followed the tracks in the dirt laid out by the oblivious evil mage.
After at least 20 more minutes of trekking, the group arrived at a cave with a lake, wooden dummy and a tattered shirt.
"This must be the mage''s hideout. Look, theres the clothes specified by the questers. Clyde, be on the lookout in case the mage comes back." The leader journeyed into the cave and took out a large roll of cotton.
The leader spread the cotton into a pile at the middle of the cave and sprinkled black powder over it. He took out some liquid from a potion in his bag and placed it in the middle of the pile.
"Alright everyone, outside now. Angela, shoot the bottle." The leader jogged out the cave along with all the other adventurers.
Angela, the designated archer, took out her bow and an arrow and opulled back the bow. Once she let loose, the arrow smashed the potion causing a small fire on the cotton.
Moments later, the fire expands instantly and explodes, taking the roof of the cave down, burying everything inside.
Several of the adventurers fall on their asses, new to the explosion.
"Hahaha, looks like the quest is done. Lets tell the guild that the mage was killed in the fire. Thats some easy money right there. I''m sure that mage''ll be mad. Hehehehehe" The leader laughs away as he takes the adventurers back into town, their quest finished.
Inside a tavern in town are 5 people sitting around a table. The leader has a large bag of gold and is currently dividing it into equal shares.
"Although you guys didn''t need to fight at all, a promise is a promise. Here''s your pay." The leader pushes a pile of gold in front of everyone. "
"Pleasure doing business." "Meet again!" "Goodbye." Everyone but Angela and the leader leave, saying their goodbyes.
"Job well done I suppose. Shall we head back home?" The leader asks Angela and she agrees. They both leave quietly.
Somewhere in the Azulian Forest, Doccor is killing off a goblin. "Hyaah!" Doccor lands the killing blow on the goblins head, rendering it motionless on the floor.
(-85HP)
''Finally, that took 23 goblins compared to the last level. Maybe I should change opponents? I''ll distribute the points for now.'' Doccor spends 3 points to agility and 2 to wisdom.

''Time to head back home. I''m in a pretty good mood. Levelling up is extremely satisfying.'' Doccor left towards his cave, oblivious to the situation.
Stalkers - Chapter 4
''What is this. Am I at the right place?'' Doccor stood in front of his cave. Or at least whats left of it. The front entrance was demolished, leaving a pile of rubble rather than a cave.
''Who did this.. I''ll make them pay... As much as I want to kill whoever did this, I gotta find a place to stay. DAMMIT! This really peeves me.'' Doccor was now homeless, but he wouldn''t let that get to him. Rather, he''d turn it to his advantage, such as finding a better home.
Doccor set off in a random direction, hoping to find a town or anything that could be deemed as shelter.
''Finally! I''ve made a mana ball!'' Doccor had been practicing his magic while walking and was able to create magic. He twisted his hand and the ball turned into a shard. Doccor flicked his hand the shard went flying into a tree, taking a good chunk of the tree out.

''I''m on the path to becoming excellent at magic and swordsmanship. Wonderful!'' Doccor was overjoyed at accomplishing this feat. It would open up countless paths in the future.
Doccor unsheathed his sword and grasped the blade with his hand. He willed the mana within him to enter the sword, enhancing it. Doccor sliced the nearby tree, making it collapse in an instant, but destroyed the blade as well.
''Already? Damn, i''ll have to get a new one.'' The blade turned to dust and withered away, leaving only the handle. ''Hmm? Concrete walls. Did I arrive at a city?'' Doccor continued walking with a grey wall in the distance, at the clearing of the forest.

Once Doccor apporached, it was indeed a city. The gate was in front of him with a booth attached to the side of the wall. In front of the booth was a sign with ''Entrance Card Here''.
As Doccor arrived, the guard in the booth welcomed him. "Hello... welcome to Zarzo. Can I see your entrance card?"
Doccor realized he was topless. His shirt got buried in the cave.
"I don''t have one." Doccor replied, straight to the point.
"No problem, would you like to buy one now? They are 10 silvers each."
"I don''t have any money."
"Hmm, I can give you an entrance fee if you pay back in a week. I''m sure you''ll make enough by then."
Doccor thought about it.
"Okay."
Doccor recieved an orange card with an expiry date on it. Similar to a passport in his world, but much more simple.
Doccor walked through the gates, into the town and arrived at his first street bustling with people and stalls which he guessed was the market.
As Doccor walked past, countless stores offered him prices, items and discounts. Unfortunately he had no money.
''Based on memory, there should be an adventurers guild somewhere. I could make some money there.'' Doccor wandered around the city looking for an adventurers guild.
Zoro was playing cards with his acquaintances waiting for the boss when a familiar somebody walked by. Once the person was far, Zoro asked his mates.
"Hey, wasn''t that Jack? The guy that just went by. He had similar pants.
"Well, he did seem familiar..."
"But, wasn''t he burned and killed? The group that cashed in said that."
"Bastards! They scammed us!"
"I''ll kill them!" His 2 acquaintances were enraged but Zoro calmed them down.
"Guys, calm down. You''re gonna start a fire with all that anger. Lets just tell the boss and get it over with."
"But... Zoro... We were the ones who gave that group the cash. The boss would kill us if he found out."
"Good point... Dammit! Those adventurers fucked us!"
"Lets take this situation into our own hands. I heard the last guy who messed up got the boss to cut off his fingers and burn him to death in a pot of boiling water."
"Yeah lets. I don''t want to end up like that guy. Lets follow Jack and take him down when we have the chance."
Zoro and his buddies Zael and Zoi, the Z squad as their boss called them, dropped their card game and stalked Jack who eventually entered an adventurers guild.
"Whats he doing there?" Zoro questioned Jack''s strange behavior. Jack used to be a frail kid who was a massive coward. Now he had a good build and was walking like he owned the place.
Little did the Z squad know, the person they were following wasn''t Jack. At least not anymore.
The Z Squad - Chapter 5
"Whew, finally here. It took way too long to get here... Lets go." Doccor rushed into the adventurers guild. Inside, he saw many ''ripped'' men with massive swords about the size of himself. The intimidation didn''t work on a master magician.
As Doccor approached the counter, he saw a man with black combed hair and a red suit.
The man said to Doccor
"Hello, what can I do for you."
"I''d like to sign up as an adventurer."
The counter person eyed Doccor up and down, scanning him to see if he was worthy or not.
"Okay, adventurer cards are 50 silver. You can pay up front or in the next two weeks."
Honestly, the counter person couldn''t care less about who he gave adventurer cards to. He''d get a commision either way for someone signing up.
"I''ll pay in two weeks. I don''t have any money right now."
"I can see that."
The counter person mumbled under his breath. He could tell from how he dressed and the fact that he had no weapon. He was sure Doccor would die in the first two weeks.
"May I ask for your name?"
"Err, Doccor Dales."
"Thank you, please wait here."
The counter person walked away behind a door at the back. He shortly came back with a brown card in his hand.
"Here is your Bronze card. As you clear more quests, you can rise in rank and get better cards. From lowest to highest, we have Bronze, Copper, Silver, Gold, Diamond and Platinum. We don''t have a rank and quest restriction but we insist that a Bronze adventurer to not take a Platinum quest. They involve dragons and trust me, you do NOT want to meet them."
Doccor took the card, said his goodbyes and head to the notice board. It was plastered on the wall with pieces of paper taped on all over the place. Doccor thought he should be able to handle at least a Copper quest.
As he searched for Copper quests, he found one he though he could try out. It asked to kill 10 skeletons from the dungeon crypt at the outskirts of town. From memory, skeletons were weak to blunt attacks and magic. He had both.Unauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Report any sightings.
He left after accepting the quest by bringing the sheet over to the counter and left to the location of the crypt. These kinds of locations were called ''dungeons''.
''Damn, those three are still following me. Maybe I should get rid of them?'' Doccor had noticed three people stalking him for a while now. He had no idea why. Maybe they were criminals and Doccor was their victim. One thing was for sure, if they attacked, he wouldn''t go down without a fight.
''Maybe I should just get rid of these fools.'' Doccor was contemplating on which decision was best. He was lost in thought that he wasn''t looking in front of him. He ran into wall. At that moment, he could hear the three men snickering and giggling.
Doccor sure wasn''t happy. He made up his mind. He was gonna teach them a lesson.
As he walked up to the men with a big guy walk, the men froze up. He could hear them.
"What do we do Zoro?"
"I, i don''t know. Lets just silence him and get it over with."
Doccor got into a fighting stance. He readied his fists as the men revealed themselves and all three pulled out daggers. The two in on the sides were bulky looking while the one in the middle was small and thin. The middle one was Zoro.
While the men circled him, Doccor prepared a spell. He chanted quietly so the men couldn''t hear. It was a spell that covered the hands in ice. (Kinda like a rock fist?)
While his assailants continuously circled him, Doccor had finished the spell. He enhanced his body and released the spell, creating ice around his fists with many jagged ends. They would pack quite the punch.
As soon as the assailants noticed Doccor casted magic, they pounced on him.
As the biggest one took a swing, Doccor ducked out of the way and smashed his ice fists into the big guys shin. This big guy was Zael.
(-55HP) (-58HP)
When Doccor noticed Zoiabout to slash him, he grabbed Zael''s legs and pulled himself under the legs to end up behind Zael. Fortunately, Zael had taken on a stance that had his legs spread. Possibly for balance.
Zoiwasn''t fast enough to acknowledge Doccor''s appearance and his dagger cut a deep wound in Zael''s knee.
Doccor, who was behind Zael, smashed his ice fist into Zael''s back. Specifically his spine.
(-98HP) (Stun)
"AARRRGGGH." Zael cried out in pain.
"What the hell! Isn''t Jack just a little shit who can barely walk straight?" Zoro questioned Doccor''s speed and skill. It was incomparable between Jack and Doccor. However, Zoro didn''t know that Jack was now Doccor.
Zael was worried. He only had 46 Health Points left. One more hit could possibly end him.
Zael''s worries were confirmed as Doccor roundhouse punched Zael in the head, instantly killing him.
(-76HP) (DEAD)
Zael''s body toppled over Zoi, pinning him but before Doccor could finish him off, Zoro joined the fight.
"You ain''t gettin'' away that easily Jack."
''Who is Jack??? I heard them referring to me as Jack countless times while they were following me. Wait a minute... Coukd that be the previous body owner''s name? It all adds up! This is weird, I seem to only remember a certain amount of things.'' Doccor finally made the conclusion that his body was Jack''s. A shocking revelation indeed.
Zoro took the initiative, rocketing towards him, duel daggers in hands.
The sound of crunches coukd be heard just after.
(-7HP)
Zoro''s daggers had hit ice. More specifically, Doccor had furthered the ice on his hands to reach his elbows and held up his arms to protect against the daggers. Although it was effective, it was draining his mana at an amazing speed.
Doccor regained his senses first and crushed Zoro''s nose with his fist, instantly knocking him out.
(-67HP) (Sleep)
Now that the fight was over, Doccor took his time cracking Zoro and Zoi''s necks by twisting their heads at a fast speed, although he had difficulties at first.
(-999999HP) (DEAD) (-999999HP) (DEAD)
Doccor immediately placed 6 points into agility and the rest into strength.
''Hmm. Now that I think about it, I could have gotten imformation out of them. Damn.'' Doccor regret his instant actions.
He patted down all the bodies and on Zoro, he found a note.
Ey Zoro, the new slaves died. Bring three more kids to Anevo Lane second alley. The password is ''Goblins Death''.
Hurry unless you want to end up like the last three slaves.
"Maybe I should give these guys a visit. Could they be Jack''s captors? Don''t worry Jack, i''ll dish out some revenge. Soon enough." Doccor gave condolensces to Jack and continued on to the crypt. Not before looting and hiding the corpses of the Z squad.
Doccors Death - Chapter 6
''Aha! The crypt is right there!'' In the distance, Doccor could see a grey wall. The quest said the crypt was in this direction next to the wall. Hours of walking paid off.
