The Paramount at first doesn''t want to allot that many theatres to the film, but because of the success of E.T. Alex became a very recognizable in America. So, they are trying to cash on that popularity. They were just expecting a box office gross $25-$30 million. But boy, were they wrong? The film grossed $5 million in just 3 days . Maybe it''s not much by 21st century standards and not even by 90''s standards but in early 80''s that amount will give weekend crown 9 out of 10 times. In the first week it grossed $9.2 million and dethroned the E.T. from the first place since its release. The Paramount''s higher ups are grinning from ear to ear with this result. For the next weekend they increased the theatres to 1,200. The film took $7.4 million in this weekend and $11.3 million for the week. In two weeks it grossed $20.5 million and everything it makes from now on will be pure profit. Meanwhile golden globe nominations came out and E.T. got 5 nominations forBest Picture in the Drama category ,Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Music and Best New Male Star for Alexander King. But the film directed by Robert Redford "Ordinary People" and the film by Martin Scorsese " The Raging Bull" each got 7 nominations. In Alex''s previous generation E.T. released in 1982 lost Oscars to "Gandhi" and "The Raging Bull" lost to "Ordinary People". "Gandhi" and "Ordinary People" are great but not on the same level as other two. For more than four years they were almost inseperable and Alex became the most impotant part of her life. She didn''t saw him as a new star but still as a ordinary boy. Meanwhile E.T. grossed $411.3 million in North America and $319.4 in overseas for total gross of $730.7 becoming the first film to gross $400 million in North America and $700 million globally. The critics said "The Sixth Sense is a twisty ghost story with all the style of a classical Hollywood picture, but all the chills of a modern horror flick." And even if he want to he couldn''t as he was about to hit his growth spurt. Alex chose to make atleast two films every year, one dramatic movie for awards and one for the masses. But the problem is the script was adapted from the book by J.G. Ballard based on his experiences in the war as a boy. So, it would be difficult to copy the book. James was quite satisfied with the script and signed the contract. Alex showed the script to Steven Spielberg and Steven was excited to direct it. Steven was labeled as science fiction specialist but Alex knew that his two best directors are for war films and this movie will be a training exercise for him. She had a grace in her, so Alex inquired and found that she was working as a model. Alex contacted her manager and they happily agreed as it would be a great chance working with Alex. Many talk amongst themselves about what he did on the football field, and how the jocks at school likely have it out for him now. "A fellow named James Cameron, he directed ''Piranha II'' which was a disaster. He wants to direct this film, which is my major concern." Jeff expressed his concerns to Alex. Alex doesn''t have any doubts about James Cameron''s ability as director. "Jeff, arrange a meeting witth him ?" Jeff nodded and had gone to do just that. ................................................... "Mr. Cameron, stop! You don''t have to convince me anymore. I came because I already made my decision to produce your film." Alex said putting a stop to non-stop talk. "Well,I...Thank you Alex. You won''t regret your decision." John Hughes contacted Phoenix Studios last year for the investmest to his film ''The Breakfast Club''. Alex readily agreed to all of his conditions.
