    I try to be calm but my anger gets the better of me I hate it when someone doesn''t listen to what I say.


    ¡°Listen Nicholas I''m sorry alright, I didn''t mean to come here I promise. I was brought here with my wife, she wouldn''t go anywhere else or take no for an answer, I swear. I didn''t bring any of my gear. You know I would never go back to the same place, please listen man!¡±

    As I apologize I hear the small group of people near by cheer. It''s ok it isn''t that expensive and it''s doubtful they would win anything anyways. Poor fellas.


    As I walk to my office I look around and keep my eye out for any influential people or my right hand man.


    I don''t necessarily need to meet anyone but new connections are new connections.


    For my assistant I must discuss a more important matter. It''s not important right now but in a few weeks it may be very serious.

    It¡¯s finally here. Today, July 2116, the revolutionary VRMMO Welcome Online, created by one of the largest corporations Night Rex Inc., has finally arrived!


    Copies were released en masse and I was able to grab one from my local Rex Mart and start it up after a short wait.


    I heard the founder got the name when he was at a museum late at night and felt a connection to the t-rex exhibit when he was a kid.


    Which is a cool story ?


    I¡¯m a little excited, there have been many Virtual Reality games brought to us by numerous large corporations and big names in the industry, but few have been able to achieve the realism and immersion as Welcome Online.


    Welcome Online shocked the world only a few years ago in its first showcase, where they showed exactly what it was like when you finally went inside. And well, you could do anything like a sandbox game.


    Though there were towns, cities, NPCs, and rules you had to follow. You couldn¡¯t just go around wantonly killing everything. There existed a number of safe zones, and the system put in place to cut down the number of toxic players, trolls, pkers, and systems simply put in place to keep the entire server from turning into complete anarchy.


    After all, if enough players wanted too, and they banded together, they could literally set the world aflame. Well, that is if they managed to kill all the NPCs in the local area that they are trying to cause chaos in before they got themselves killed, that is.


    And of course you could still PK, PvP is a large part of most MMORPGs after all. However PKing carried its own risks other than death; NPCs would turn hostile to you, most stores will refuse to service you, and guards, if even slightly provoked, would attack you. To avoid this you could instead kill someone in designated locations such as Gladiatorial Coliseums, Duels or War Zones (aka where many monsters spawn and large fights are allowed).


    Of course, players with an advantage of 20 levels over victims would not get any loot from a kill.


    (what drops when you kill something) or experience to prevent other players from quitting.

    But none of that really interested me, really, I mean; fighting can be fun, don¡¯t get me wrong, but I¡¯ve experienced a few VRMMORPGs already, as a mage, a warrior, a knight, paladin, or any other of the numerous classes, all of which were fun . War is an interesting experience, but it¡¯s just not my main interest.


    Fighting has never been my major passion. What is, you ask? Well, I suppose I don¡¯t really have what you¡¯d call a passion. When I was young I never really dreamed of being an astronaut, a cook, or a soldier. All I ever wanted was, well... money.


    It sort of became an obsession, and a decade after graduating from college I ended up with my own little casino, Three Cups - One Winner. There¡¯s just something about watching the money come in, watching people pour their hard earned cash, their dough, into my machines that make me smile.


    And I suppose I¡¯ve always liked that about games. Whenever you kill something a coin pops out. Whenever a boss dies, a treasure chest filled with coins appears in front of you. I If you tried hard enough, you could even fill an entire pool with coins and swim around in it.


    But Night Rex Inc. came up with the seemingly absurd plan that I suppose only a company as massive as them could come up with. You see, for every in-game gold coin you earn, you just pocketed yourself a whole $10 . (Adjusted for inflation)


    And even though they set a cap for each month of $10,000, and limited each person to a single account. That¡¯s still a $100,000 dollars in your pocket.


    The coins go like this 100 coppers = 1 silver 1 copper is worth a half loaf of bread 100 silvers = 1 gold 1 silver is worth 1 night at a nice inn 100 gold = 1 platinum 1 gold can feed a family 100 platinum = 1 holy coin 1 platinum is worth a decent house and 1 holy coin can afford a mansion.


    Honestly, I can¡¯t wait to see the money rolling in. I grabbed a black latex suit, put on my VR helmet, and plugged the fiber optic cable that connected my computer to the modem at the back of the suit.


    I¡¯d love to use a VR Capsule, but before I invest too much money, I wanted to get a feel for the game , especially considering the maintenance of one of those things. The capsule itself costs about ten times as much as the suit and maintaining it costs an additional, astronomical, figure because of the gel-like fluid inside it that make it possible to play for long hours without exiting the game.


    You may be asking why I am personally entering the game and not one of my employees. well, like I said earlier, I like to see that gold roll in. Also, I recently promoted a close friend that I have worked with for years to take over most of the work for me, essentially he became the CEO, although I made him sign some documents saying he couldn''t remove me from the board or the company itself, so I could do as I please when playing.


    I turned on my helmet and was greeted by the Artificial Intelligence built in to assist with controlling the virtual terminal and initiate the game.

 Chapter 2 : Game - Start

    Huh, it seems I logged in earlier then I thought, maybe there was a delay? Well, I can create my character first, luckily I won''t have to wait a half hour to do so.


    I yelled out "character creation" when I did, a copy of I how I look in real life was standing in front of me.


    I¡¯m about average looking, with some muscle for constantly moving and working in my business. I''m about 5,11 black hair short beard and mustache, I get most of these qualities from my dad, my mother was shorter and had lighter hair, with what seemed a serious, yet kind face with a trace of cunning, which is what you need to be when successful in my field.


    I am able to go into the VR because I recently promoted someone else to do all the work that I usually do for my business, making it so I can be in Welcome Online freely without needing to log out unless something important happens that strictly needs my attention.


    "Hmmm, what should I change?" I mutter nonchalantly.


    "Guess I will make myself a little taller to a perfect 6, then maybe I should add a little muscle just to look less weak. Maybe I should make my facial hair a little thicker to seem older and darken my skin just a tad so I don¡¯t look too white," I edit my character.


    After clicking ok on the character image I get the next prompt and an update on the time left.

    Author Note : If you¡¯re wondering why the class skills are so opped for him it¡¯s because each race gets domain over a stat. Dwarves excel in dexterity, Bohemouth is strength and Silf are vitality and so on so forth. The next chapter will go into detail and for the city he chooses most of them are his races cities and the others are other capitals but jiter is an all race city so you can find any race there and since he logged on early he was able to do all the looks for his character the next chapter is where he puts stuff in stats and so on so forth. There are many other races on the world of Welcome Online but the main ones are Human, Dwarf, Elf, Behemoth, Silf, Demi-human (any animal), Cisti, Falorin, and Loterous. Each race specializes in one stat. Of course, any of them can go in any direction you want, but it will be easier for? what race you choose. Aside from Humans, who are neutral in all aspects. Humans begin the game with 11 stat points that can be administered as the player pleases. Dwarfs have high stats in dexterity. Elves specialize in wisdom. Behemoths are a berserker type of race specializing in strength. Silfs specialize in agility. Demi-humans specialize in vitality. Falorins specialize in vitality. Cisti specialize in charisma. Finally, the Loterous specialize in luck. Those are the main races, but there are many others that have not been unlocked or do not have a high enough population to be added. For the next tutorial continue on the path.

    This is the tutorial page where we explain the stats. The main stats you will see in the game are Strength, Vitality, Intellect, Wisdom, Charisma, Dexterity, Agility, and Luck. Strength is how hard you hit, added to your weapon¡¯s attack percent. Vitality indicates how long you can move around, increasing your stamina base with added percents. Wisdom is added mana in percents.Intellect increases recovery over time. Charisma affects your Leadership side-stat, and how others see you with an added bonuses for NPCs. Dexterity affects craftsmanship and assists with using heavier items, as well as the side-stat: Protection.     This is the world part of the tutorial which just explains cities, kingdoms, and countries, as well as the name of this planet. The game of Welcome Online is based on the planet Rurin. The currency here is Rin. 1 copper Rin is worth a half of a bread, 100 copper is worth 1 silver, 1 silver is worth one night at a nice inn. 100 silver is worth 1 gold, 1 gold can feed a 4 person family for 1 year. 100 gold is worth 1 platinum, 1 platinum can get you a house in most capitals,100 platinum is worth 1 holy coin, 1 holy coin can feed a family of 10 and buy a fairly large mansion in most capitals. It also has the highest value a coin can have. These prices and amounts can change in the game. Each race has a kingdom with a capital, and each kingdom has 10 cities, 200 towns, and 300 villages. There are 3 continents: 1 unexplored, 1 consists of ruins and Barren wastelands that have been explored, and the 3rd is the main one called Rustin. On the continent of Rustin, there is 9 countries, 1 for each race as well as a few spots unclaimed, mainly wasteland or frozen plains with very strong beasts. Your chosen city of Jiter is In an unclaimed plain where any race is free to roam under the agreement of the 9 kings and queens. This is all of the info for this planet that you will be given in the tutorial, but there is much more to learn. To continue, walk the path.

    "I''mmmmmm alive!!" I yell when I appear on a street.


    Well, getting weird looks from everyone sucks, but I thought it was a perfect thing to say.


    Alright so let''s go explore first off.


    "*whisper* haha look at that noob, walking around like a dope. Did you hear what he said?" I heard from a random guy while walking away from the spawning point.


    So, of course, I yell back. "Hey you''re a noob too, dumbass; at least I''m not some dolt like you!"

    He looks to be one of those ¡°hero¡± characters who made himself look better than average, I don''t see a point in doing this.

    He throws a punch and I move out of the way. It¡¯s so weak and easy to dodge it''s kinda sad, that''s how bad it is. I notice this because I have been dealing with troublemakers in my casino for the last 10 years.


    I then throw a punch, hitting his gut and knocking him down.

 Chapter 6: The Barter

    "This is harder than I thought," I say as I continue to look for anything to help me with my mission.


    As I continue to look I had a realization: NPC''s! I completely forgot that they were there.


    I instantly walk up to a random person to ask my questions.


    "Hello there, kind sir, I am in need of your assistance," I say to him.


    "Mgphm! what was that mister, were you talking to me" says a man that looks to be a few years older than me.


    "I did, kind sir, you see I''m in need of your assistance" I answer in a friendly voice while I also use the skill: [Friendly Smile]. hopefully, it makes me seem nicer.


    "Oh and what kind of assistance is this you ask of me?" he says back to me and seems to turn friendlier.


    "You see sir, I need a few things and some directions" I answer.


    "Well, what do you need? I warn you, though if it¡¯s something important it will cost you a lot, and directions to where?" This greedy man is already talking about money.


    "Thank you for helping me. You see, I need three cups and one box of any material, something to write on the box with, and directions to this city''s central."     "Hmm, yes I can help you get those items and I can escort you to the central, all for 10 silver. What do you say? " What? 10 silver? That''s way too expensive. And he seems so life-like, is he really an NPC I wonder.


    "I''m sorry sir, but that is too expensive. How about 10 copper instead?" I start to barter.


    "Huh, you do seem kinda poor, all right how about 1 silver" he barters back.


    "I don''t know. That''s still a lot, and I can always do this myself. 20 copper" I continue to barter.


    "Bah! Fine: 30 copper" he shouts one last time.


    "Deal, kind sir! I am so happy we came to an agreement, may I ask for your name?" I agree and ask.


    "The name¡¯s Jim, Jim Sanders, now let''s get you your stuff" Jim answers in a friendly tone,it seems money can buy friendship after all.


    I hand him the 30 coppers and follow him. Hopefully, he isn''t a bandit about to mug me.


    After I handed the coppers over I got a nice prompt.

    When we finally reached the center, Jim said: "Ok, here you go, the central. Nice meeting you and, if you want, once you''re done here you can come to my place. I have a job that I need done"


    After he said those words, I got it my first quest. I''m not really trying to get quests, but it is a happy surprise nonetheless.

    These bonuses are great! I am pretty much able to become friends, or whatever, with anyone no matter what; a poor person, a king, a head priest, or a heretic, which is great!


    After Jim left me, I walked towards the center of the central, which had over a thousand people walking around, most of which seemed like merchants or townspeople, with a few guards here and there, as well as a few players running around or buying something.


    I walked towards a fountain, not the biggest or central one, just a nice side one. On the fountain there was a man standing on a pile of coins with a plack in front reading: "Here stands the god of luck and greed -Leftin", a perfect god for me to work with. I toss a silver in the fountain, and put my box, with the sign on, down, put another smaller box behind it, and another in front. These boxes I got for free from Jim. I sat on the box In the back and took out the 3 cups, which were perhaps more like half coconut bowls or something.


    Now that I think about, it how did Jim have all this? Huh, oh well, I will ask him later.


    After I put the cups down, I took out the small stone and inspected it with scrutiny, using the skill everyone has, but which can be upgraded to a better skill later on, or with enough use of it.

    When I looked at it, it seemed similar to a piece of jade that you could find in the real world, but, it was a darker blue and without any rough spots. When I used the skill this came up.

    "Oh, umm, hello. I guess I am just running my business that I started earlier today"


    I say this and look up at the speaker.


    "Humph, you need to register at the Merchant Faction first. Not just anyone can set up shop and work here, you need permits."


    He sounded kinda annoyed with me. Like I knew I was supposed to have these things in order first, which of course I didn''t.


    "I''m sorry officer, at least I think you are?. I''m Nick by the way, and you"


    I answer cautiously, trying not to upset the guard-like person.


    "Hmm, I am a guard of Jiter, the name is Felix"


    He answers uncaringly.


    "Nice to meet you, Felix. You mentioned that I need to register at the Merchant Faction. I don''t exactly know where that is, can you show me the way please"


    "Sure thing. I will tell my higher ups I''m taking you there, and tell one of my partners to watch your stuff."


    When he finished, he turns around and disappears around a corner. After a few moments, he reappears with another guard and together they walk back to my booth.

    "Hah yeah, there is quite a lot of them. Hmm, let¡¯s see. So, the smallest would be a party which is made up of 2-8 people. Anyone can party up with someone, and most of the time it''s for small missions. Then there is a guild, I suppose that''s what you visitors create. I don''t know much about them. Then there are factions, like the merchant''s faction we are going to where you register for certain things! and need to be a higher member to do more important and serious things, Then there are circles these are for elite, skilled, and better people, however, kings and nobles are apart of these. Then there is government, which is basically what governs certain places."


    I was sure there were more details, but he didn''t seem too interested in talking about this subject any longer, so I moved on.


    "So, Felix, are you a gambler?"


    "Yes, I play cards with my mates from time to time. I have had my fair share of luck, why?"


    "Well, you see, my booth where you met me at, is a gambling game.I put a stone in one cup, then switch them all around. Once I''m done, you guess what cup the stone is under. If you''re right, you win. If you''re wrong, you lose"


    "Sounds like a fun game, I might give it a shot when we''re done at the faction. speaking of the faction, were here."


    We stop in front of a building that looks similar to a bar, but bigger and more of a reception-type style.


    "Well, I will wait out here for you, just walk in there and talk to the nice lady at the counter."

    So I turn and enter the building.

 Chapter 9 : Aurora and Jeremy

    When I entered the building, I was greeted with a female voice.


    "Welcome to the Merchant Faction; here to help you with all Merchant situations. How may we help you today sir?"


    The voice came from a little above average looking brunette aged around 20 to 28, a look you would expect from a barista or secretary.


    She had a name tag on her chest, made out of what seemed to be obsidian and marble, reading: ¡°Aurora¡±.


    "Why thank you, Aurora, I do need some help today. The guard standing right outside said I need to register as a member of the Merchant Faction in order to get my business registered, is this the right place?"


    I replied by using the skill friendly smile to see if I can raise her perception of me.


    She replied with what almost seemed like instinct, but in this case, it was likely the coding done, or it was the A.I of the game.


    If it was either one of those things, this game is already ahead of the others. They may have realistic features and response times, but the way this was done felt almost real,


    "Yes sir, this is the right place. To become a member, you will need to go to window one and, to register your business, you will need to go to window three. Any further questions?"


    As she was listing the windows, she pointed out where they were. The windows were a little further back in the building, straight forward, and near some steps. There were four windows, each one had someone standing behind the counter, with one to two people in front of each.


    As she pointed, a small blimp appeared which seemed to be a waypoint, like the ones you would have in an old game called Skyrim?, which would lead you to your destination.


    "No, I think that is all for now. Thank you very much."


    I answer with a gentleman''s arm-in-front-of-heart gesture. Also, having the friendly smile skill be successful in its use.


    "If you have any further questions, please ask me at any time. I am the informant of this establishment"


    She answers with her own small half curtsy. After we finish up I went to the first window, where there was no one else.


    "Hello Mister, as you are coming to this window after talking to Aurora, I expect you want to become a member of this faction, correct?"If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.


    This time, the voice came from a middle-aged man, with black hair and business-style suit, a name tag fixed on his chest as well, reading: ¡°Jeremy¡±.


    "Hello Jeremy, my name is Nicholas. And yes, your assumptions are correct; I do want to become a member of this faction."


    I said as friendly as I can. Using the skill Friendly Smile once more.


    "Haha, they usually are. Well, first things first, we will need membership fee of 1 Rin to join, and whatever your business level is as of right now. Yours is a tier 2 set 1 cup game, so you must pay 20 silver a week."


    After he laughed he became very businesslike. The prices made sense, and at this time I can afford it, but in order to test my bargaining skill, and maybe level it up, I try to barter.


    "Hmm, this price seems a bit much for me. I just created my business and haven''t had one customer yet, why must I spend so much?" I try to drop the price he gave me"I do not have much money, so can we do 50 silver instead, and a tax of 15 silver until I get around 30 customers daily?"


    He sat and thought for a bit then responded by giving his new price.


    "I''m sorry Nicholas, 50 silver as a down payment and 15 silver weekly is just too little. I can see you don''t have much, so how about 75 silver right now and 18 silver weekly?"


    I didn''t want to push the skill too much since I might not be able to get it lower, so I agreed.


    "That sounds wonderful, thank you very much, Jeremy!"


    I pay Jeremy and then a few things happen.


    "As you have paid your fee, you must now register."

 Chapter 10: Finished but Beggining

    When I finally reach the window after waiting in the line I reach another female, this time behind the counter. I read her name tag earlier in line she is named Charlotte.


    She greets me first.


    ¡°Hello Nicholas Flamel, sorry for the wait. What can I help you with today?¡±


    That surprised me, did she know my name was Nicholas, Nicholas Flamel, because i''m a member now or because she could see my name.


    If it''s the latterI will need to learn how to do that as well, so farI have only been guessing who was a player or not.


    I look at her a bit better, she has dirty blond hair, furry hands, cat ears, and looking lower down a tail. That¡¯s a surprise first neko i have seen so far. Her face seemed like she was staring me down or simply doing her job, hard to tell.


    I snap out of my thoughts and answer her, there was no one behind me so I wasn''t holding up the line which could have been bad.


    ¡°Yes you can help me, you see Aurora said I would need to talk to you to register my business?¡±


    She talks professionally and softly, it seems like she¡¯s been here awhile.


    ¡°That''s one of the reasons i''m here for, what type of business and level is it?¡±


    It seems she isn''t one for small talk while working, that''s different from Jeremy.


    ¡°It is a tier 2 set 1 cup game, created just a bit ago, I didn''t realize I had to register such a small thing. The guard approached me and brought me here.¡±


    She didn''t seem that changed when I told her the info, i guess she doesn''t care that much or already was aware of it.

    She gives a short reply then starts scribbling and clicking things, I guess the clicking was on her interface confirming npcs do have a stat menu.


    ¡°A Tier 2 set 1 is surprising for a first time business but not unheard of, but it does cost more to register, normally you register before you create it but it''s fine. The cost will be 1 gold Rin and a tax of 5 gold Rin every month, if you grow or decline the tax will change automatically so don''t worry about coming back here every time, although I wouldn''t mind it.¡±


    Wow thats kind of expensive, but I wont bargain or change it for now.

    My god, I have just done a world changing event. I of course accept the first two, it will create a lot of traffic and advertisements for my business. The last one is much harder to accept do I want people to see how I look? Should I create a shadow owner, if so I will need to do it quickly. If not that then what?

    As I leave the coffin I start working.

    Sudden thought, I believe this is why I talk out loud when i¡¯m thinking, Ajax is always there listening and responding so it became second nature. I need to ask someone else if it¡¯s the same for them.
